hello ! I read your fic about Sebastian. I can't stop smiling while reading your fic. I love you and your fics so much!
And do you mind if I ask you something about Sebastian and the Hufflepuff Readers?
One time I was reading a book with a friend in the library. Everything was fine until a guy walked past my table and I couldn't stop looking at him. I didn't even know I was reading the book upside down. Even though it was a short time, I still remember that moment well. Like love at first sight!
So I would like to request a similar situation for Sebastian and the lovely Hufflepuff readers.
I've never turned my book upside down while distracted by a pretty person, but I have sadly forgotten how to eat. That's a story for another time though.
Flipside (S.S)
I'm glad you've been enjoying! I hope you like this one even more <3 I need to stop using Ominis for blind jokes, though, I might have to put myself in the corner if I do it again, but it's ok because I can't see either. Good Charlotte is currently playing, life is good, <3

Sebastian leaned his head onto his hand, looking down at the table as he waited for class to start. Ominis sat beside him, having switched places with Poppy, listening to the many conversations that happened around them. Sebastian stifled a yawn as he rubbed his eyes, the grogginess of the morning still sitting over his head. He looked around the room, watching as students talked with their partners at their tables, watching for a moment as Natty sat alone, looking down at her book. He shook his head as he turned to Ominis, “Did you have trouble sleeping last night?” Ominis looked at him, confused. “No. Why?” Sebastian shrugged as he sighed. “I couldn’t sleep last night, kept tossing and turning.” Ominis furrowed his brows.
“Perhaps it’s because it was our first night back. You tend to get restless the night before we start classes.” Ominis said. The sound of a door opening sounded as he talked, yellow and black robes quickly passing through. It caught Sebastian’s eye, who tuned Ominis out as he watched you look around, confused. Professor Ronen walked over to you and greeted you, gesturing to the tables for you to take a seat. Natty perked up, waving to you as you walked over, patting the seat next to her. Sebastian watched you sit down and fit your robe, a shy smile on your face as you talked with Natty. “Sebastian? Are you listening to me?” Ominis asked, nudging Sebastian’s shoulder with his own.
Sebastian quickly looked over to Ominis, blinking as he tried to refocus himself. “What was that?” He asked, glancing around. Ominis sighed as he shook his head. “We were talking, remember? Did you fall asleep?” Sebastian shook his head, glancing over to you again. You made eye contact for a split second before you quickly turned your head back to Natty, a small blush gracing your cheeks as you continued to talk with your new friend. “You’re doing it again, Sebastian.” Ominis said, pinching his side. Sebastian jumped slightly, huffing as he swatted Ominis’ hand away. “I’m not sleeping! Just…distracted is all.” Ominis shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“I heard the door open. Though, I didn’t recognize the footsteps.” Ominis said, turning his head as he listened to his surroundings. “Has someone caught your eye, perhaps?” Sebastian scoffed, still unable to comprehend how Ominis’ hearing was so good. Ominis smiled as Sebastian remained silent, moving to poke his side again. “Stop that! I was just looking around.” Sebastian hissed, keeping his voice low as he slapped Ominis’ hand once again. Ominis chuckled, shaking his head as he fixed his seat. Professor Ronen clapped his hands together as he walked through the middle of the classroom. Sebastian tuned him out as he began to talk, stealing glances at you as you watched, confused. He watched as Natty slid her book over to you, only for it to be whisked away in an instant and sent to the professor. “No time to study now, of course!” He said, and Sebastian watched as your cheeks brightened in embarrassment, causing a small smile to tug at the corner of his mouth.
The professor kept talking, but Sebastian still didn’t listen, his mind running in circles as he watched your face change every few moments, usually switching between amazement and confusion. It was only when Ominis elbowed him did Sebastian tune back in, watching as students began to stand up. “What are we doing?” He asked, earning a small laugh from his friend. “Accio. You use it to bring something towards you.” Sebastian nodded as he grabbed his wand. “Grab your book, it’s safer to use.” Ominis continued, pointing his wand at the book on the table. Sebastian sighed, picking it up and holding it in his hands. He watched Ominis raise his wand and cast the spell, feeling the book being ripped out of his hands. His eyes widened as he watched it fly back to Ominis, who held his hand out as it landed, grabbing it, and smiling. “Your turn.” Sebastian readied his wand, narrowing his eyes as he watched the book.
“Accio!” Sebastian turned his head as you shouted the spell, watching as you smiled happily when the book flew into your hand. “Sebastian!” Ominis shouted, feeling the book fly from his hand. You had said the spell at the same time, and Sebastian had immediately forgotten what he had just summoned to him, feeling the hard spine of the book hit him in the chest. He groaned slightly as the book fell into his hand, frowning as he looked at the spot where he had been hit. Ominis tried to hide his laugh behind his hand, knowing that Sebastian would complain later about a bruise. Sebastian looked around, noticing that you had seen the whole thing and had a slightly worried expression on your face, meanwhile Natty stood there, holding in her own laugh. “It was a fluke, won’t happen again.” Sebastian said, mainly to himself. Ominis raised a brow as he shook his head. “Of course, now let me try again.”
Sebastian stood with Ominis as they listened to Professor Ronen speak, mentioning that they would be trying different activities the next day to help practice. Ominis nudged Sebastian again, “You definitely need practice, so pay attention.” He whispered. Sebastian only shook his head, waiting for the class to be dismissed. He looked across the room again, finding you standing next to Natty still, a smile on your face as Natty whispered something in your ear. “You are dismissed!” Ronan shouted, gesturing for everyone to gather their items. Sebastian hung by the door, watching you grab your bag and book when the professor asked you to stick around for a moment. You nodded as you slid the book into your bag, slinging it over your shoulder as you walked over to him.
Ominis sighed beside Sebastian, kicking his foot as he turned to walk away. “Let’s go, before whoever it is you’re staring at thinks you’re going to kill them.” Sebastian scoffed as he slowly turned to walk with Ominis, fixing the strap of his bag. “I do not have that kind of face, Ominis.” Ominis shrugged, turning his head to Sebastian. “And how should I know?” “You can’t keep using that excuse-“ “Watch me, because I surely can’t.”
Finally parting ways with Ominis, Sebastian headed for the greenhouse. He kicked a stone as he walked, wondering where you would be while he was stuck in Herbology. Yellow looked good on you, he thought, and just by the way you had acted in Charms, he knew that you fit into the Hufflepuff house perfectly. He liked your smile; it was bright and looked good on you. He also liked how your voice sounded with his own, only hearing it that one time when you both shouted Accio. He hoped that you didn’t think he was weird, if you had noticed all the times he looked at you. He sighed as he reached the doors to the greenhouse, slipping through them and taking a seat at one of the tables.

He reached into his bag and brought out one of the books for the class, flipping through the pages as he passed the time. He tuned out the voices that spilled into the room as his thoughts began to wander again; right back to you. It was as if you had a charm placed on you, drawing him to you. You looked great, nice too. Even from across the room Sebastian could see the twinkle in your eyes when Ronan had caused the book in front of you to fly towards him. You blushed too, right? When you made eye contact, Sebastian swore you had blushed for a moment. Did he really make a fool of himself in front of you on the first day, too distracted by you to catch the book he had summoned to him?
Professor Garlick’s cherry voice brought Sebastian back, greeting you as you walked in. Sebastian’s eyes widened as he watched you walk in, a smile on your face as you greeted Garlick. He kept his head low as he watched you converse with her, pretending to read the pages he had in front of him. You nodded as Garlick explained the basics of the class to you, that twinkle in your eye coming back. You were closer now, and Sebastian found himself looking into your eyes; they looked like gems in the sunlight, twinkling in excitement as you learned more about what you would be going over in class. His eyes widened as he quickly brought his attention back to his book, watching as Garlick gestured for you to take a seat. He stared at the pages, not bothering to read them as he watched you in the corner of his eye, slightly panicking as you made your way over to him.
You took a seat beside him, smiling as you greeted him. “Hello! I’m y/n.” Your smile was sweet, and Sebastian found himself talking before he could even catch up. “Sebastian, it’s nice to meet you.” You nodded as you reached into your bag. “I saw what happened in Charms. How’s your chest?” Sebastian’s eyes widened as he set the book down, a slight heat creeping to his cheeks. “You saw that?” You nodded, grabbing a book from your bag. “It’s a tough book, I hope you didn’t hurt yourself too bad.” Sebastian scoffed, trying to brush off the fact that it did, in fact, hurt a lot. “I’m fine. A little book isn’t going to stop me.” You chuckled, looking over at him. “Speaking of which, what chapter are we going over? The professor didn’t say when I walked in.” Quickly, Sebastian felt behind him for the book, still turned to you. “Uh, let me see.” He held the book up as he scanned the page, his brows furrowing as he tried to understand what he was reading.
“That’s weird…Did I grab the wrong book?” He asked quietly, mostly to himself. You laughed as you watched him, noticing the title of the book was upside down. You watched for a dew more moments, watching as Sebastian stuttered to himself as he tried to comprehend the words, a slight blush to his cheeks. “Sebastian?” He froze, hearing his name leave your lips easily as if you had said it all your life. He peeked over the book at you, using its pages to hide the pink that had grown darker. You smiled at him, taking the book from his hands. “I believe you have it upside down.” You flipped it back to the proper side, handing it back to Sebastian as his eyes widened in embarrassment. “I knew that. I was just testing you, that’s all.” He stuttered, earning another laugh from you. “Of course. Did I pass?” “With flying colours.”

The two of you chatted throughout the class, Sebastian quietly making jokes about certain plants to make you laugh. You pointed to an illustration of a Mandrake on one of the pages, mimicking its face as you scrunched up your nose. Sebastian thought it was adorable. As the class ended, Sebastian waited by the doors for you; not having anyone to walk with, or Ominis telling him he was creepy for waiting. You talked with the professor for a few minutes, glancing over every now and then and sending Sebastian a smile. He smiled back, his heart skipping a beat each time you sent that smile to him. It was intoxicating; Sebastian almost thought you had slipped him a love potion. He shook his head as you walked over to him, opening the door for you as you passed. He quickly followed behind, walking by your side. “What’s your next class, then?” He asked, putting his hands into the pockets of his robe. You bit your lip as you tried to remember, furrowing your brows. “Potions, if I’m not mistaken.” Sebastian’s heart skipped a beat, realizing that he too had potions next. “Great! I’ll walk with you then since we’re going to the same place.” You smiled as you nodded, taking a breath as a breeze blew by. It cooled Sebastian’s face as he fought the heat that continued to rise to his cheeks, grateful for the bright sun; it would be a great cover story for why he was so red. “Let’s hope your books aren’t upside down this time, or that you don’t get attacked with any either.” You joked, earning a scoff from Sebastian. “I have a great relationship with books, I’ll have you know.” “Clearly.”

After dinner the fourth night after they lost the miracle, Mirabel sits on a bench outside her family’s temporary home, sketching in the golden evening light. No-one is about except the two black cats that live next door, both lazing on the sunny doorstep.
The street is a comfortable kind of quiet. The schoolhouse opposite is shuttered for the night; a savoury aroma drifts through the still air from the Pezmuertos’ house; and far away, on the edge of her hearing, a lone acordeón player practises a cumbia.
The front door opens. “Ah,” says Tío Bruno, “you’re here. Never mind, I’ll find somewhere else, see you later.”
“No, it’s okay,” Mirabel says, and shuffles along the bench to make room.
A story about a house.

✨Encantober #16✨ Kiss
"Is that my thimble?"
"What? No, no, no! That,” for emphasis, Bruno made a flourish with his hand, “is the kiss!"
"This," Mirabel picked up the small metal object and put it on her index finger, "is my thimble, tío."
Tumblr media
"Ah, yeah, yes, of course! B-but in my play, it's the kiss”—again the flourish, less exalted this time—"uh, it's, you know, a misunderstanding? A joke!” He nodded towards the rat on his workbench. “You see, the fairy-boy doesn’t know what a kiss is and the girl, she, she wants to—ah, but I don't wanna spoil it for you..."
Bruno chuckled and picked up the rat-slash-actor to squeeze it into the tiny fairy costume Mirabel had sewn for him. Without her thimble, mind you.
"I see," Mirabel sighed, her thumb stroking the embossed butterflies on the thimble’s seam. "But it's my only thimble, you know."
Bruno paused. He placed the dressed-up rat onto his shoulder and carefully stood up from his stool, turning towards her.
"Do you..." he kneaded his hands nervously and stared at her, his round eyes shiny and pleading. "Do you really need it back…?"
Mirabel bit her bottom lip to keep from laughing, and tried to look anywhere but at her uncle. It was unbelievable how a man his age could look so much like a little kid asking for a treat. The tiny rat on his shoulder with its beady black eyes and the cute little dress only enhanced the effect.
"Ah...how about you return it when you're done with your play, okay?” she offered.
"Yes, of course!" He snatched the thimble from her finger and plopped down onto his stool. "Thank you, Mirabel!"
Smiling gleefully, he stroked the fairy-rat and showed off his prize. "Look, Pepe Pan! We got a kiss!"

“Camilo, stand straight,”
“Ay,” Camilo groaned, but did as told. “I’m standing straight.”
“Five years. For five years I’ve been telling you this,” Y/N said, putting up five fingers. He looked at her palm, nodding.
She didn’t know what to expect, but what he did next was not it. Camilo placed his own palm against hers and interlocked their fingers. Bringing their joined hands higher, he placed a tender kiss on the back of her palm. She bit the inside of her cheek at this action. If there was one thing to always expect from Camilo, it was him being unexpectedly cute.
“Dork,” she muttered, untangling her fingers from his grasp.
She placed her elbow back on her knee and rested her chin on her palm. Staring ahead, she tapped her fingers against her cheeks.
Camilo stood beside her, not feeling like joining his girlfriend on the stone wall. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” she responded, but her eyes remained on the setting sun. Like she wasn’t exactly listening. Camilo’s eyebrows scrunched. Turning his whole body towards her, he took a step forward. Now vis-a-vis and blocking the view, Y/N had to look up at him.
“Mi vida, you’re spacing out,” he deadpanned.
“I’m just taking in the view,”
“This isn’t the first time,”
Y/N straightened. Her hands fell down onto her lap, her torso was now perpendicular to the ground. That way, they could see eye to eye. But did they?
“I’m fine, Camilo,” she said.
“I hope so,” he sighed. “Because if you weren’t that would mean you’re not telling me something I should know.”
She tensed at the seriousness that overcame both his features and voice. This was the less common side of Camilo Madrigal. The one he reserved for scolding his loved ones for not taking care of themselves. Serious Camilo was someone she got to meet a lot these past few months, actually.
Instead of responding, she reached down and gently took his wrist. Sliding her hand into his own, she brought it up. She placed it on her lap. With a sigh and a nod, she started playing with his palm, his fingers. Caressing his smooth skin, delicately touching his rough from all the work fingertips. She couldn’t help but notice how quickly the tension left him and soon his hand went limp. Free for her to play with.
“You care a lot,” she said quietly. “But you don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine. I’m happy actually.”
By closing his fingers on her own, he stopped her little game. “You are?”
“Very.” she smiled.
“Mhm,” he hummed, stepping closer and moving to hold her other hand. “Why? What’s causing you to be so happy?”
A soft laugh escaped Y/N’s throat. “I know you know. You just want to hear me say it.”
“Maybe.” he let go of her hands. His own made their way to her waist. His fingers rubbed up and down her sides, dancing across her skin. “Come on, say it.”
“Dios, it’s you.” she rolled her eyes. “There. Ego boosted enough?”
He shook his head, before staring deep into her eyes and placing his forehead against hers. “I’m gonna need a name. Who did you say makes you happy?”
She pressed her lips tightly as a smile spread across her face. “Camilo.” she responded after having a mental debate with herself about whether she should or not.
“Oh? Who’s that? There are a lot of Camilo’s in this world. You’re gonna have to be more specific-“
“Madrigal, jeez. It’s Camilo Madrigal,” she laughed, cutting him off.
“Camilo Madrigal? What about him?” he kissed her cheek.
“You’re insufferable, I can’t believe you,”
“That sounds like a you problem.” he kissed her other cheek. “What about him?” he repeated his question.
“Camilo Madrigal makes me happy,” she gave in.
He pulled away unconvinced. Raising his brow and pursing his lips, he stared at her. Y/N groaned.
“Camilo Madrigal makes me very happy, the happiest actually,”
“And?”
“And I love him very much,” she said, wrapping her arms around his neck. She pulled him back to her. “I love him more than anything.”
“That’s my girl,” he whispered before kissing her deeply.

Pixelated Flower — camilo m.
Tumblr media
pairing: camilo madrigal x gn reader genre: fluff drabble tags: 1.1kwc, requested, scheduled, modern au
summary: camilo unknowingly and indirectly confesses to you during an online game
Tumblr media
Numerous pings can be heard from your computer making you turn to your desk in irritation. You were cozy and cuddled up in your comforters which all the more brings you laziness and tiredness. You simply ignored the notifications as you continued scrolling through your phone while lying in bed. However midway through a TikTok video, your screen fades and blaringly plays a familiar ringtone. Someone was calling you and you smiled when you saw who it was. Your best friend (and also the one you slightly have a big crush on), the one and only Camilo Madrigal.
"What do you want, Camilo?" You said as you brought your phone to your ear.
"I've been giving you pings on Discord! I thought you said you wanted to play Minecraft with us on the server!" Camilo's whiny voice made you burst out in laughter.
"Okay fine, give me a few minutes" You giggled and hung up the phone. It took you minutes to shuffle under your bedsheets before you stood up to finally go to your desk. The moment you took a seat, you turned on your phone and checked on your Discord notifications. Boy, Camilo really did mention you too much. It made you laugh until the light from your computer took your attention, ready for you to set up your game. While you're at it, you opened the server and saw that there was a voice chat that included Camilo, Carlos, Isabela and Mirabel. You got the urge of excitement as you wore your headphones and opened Minecraft.
You regretted it.
The moment you joined the call, a bunch of screams welcomed you and took you aback. You jolted in your seat at the ear-piercing yells that might have broken your eardrums. In a hurry you adjusted the volume before you joined the server after Minecraft got opened.
"NOT MY DOG! DON'T KILL MY DOG!" Carlos screamed into his mic. You can hear the rapid clicking of his keyboard. Camilo laughed soon after but later screamed, "NO! HOW DID YOU EVEN GET POTIONS?!"
As soon as you joined the server, your name pops out in chat and Camilo instantly stops screaming to coo at you sweetly, "STOP I'M GONNA MURDER YO- Y/N! I farmed diamonds for you!" You could hear Carlos on the other end scoff in annoyance as he approached Camilo's character.
You stood there, just watching the two twins do a 1v1 by themselves for no apparent reason. Camilo probably taunted his twin brother first and it escalated from there. You observed them bicker back and forth until they decided to settle on an empty fist-fight through Minecraft. With them armor-less and weapon-less, you decided to step in and bother them with your full diamond armor and Netherite weapons.
'Carlos was slain by [username]'
"Yeah! Y/N's here to fight for me!" Camilo cheered. You laughed through the mic and smirked to yourself. "Hold that thought, milo."
'Camilo was slain by [username]'
"Serves you right." Carlos laughed this time. He most likely respawned back at the house so you collected their stuff and placed it in a chest for them to come back to. Camilo was whining and yelling the entire time, feeling betrayed.
"I'm gonna go get flowers for the bee farm" You nonchalantly informed the two and left them. You were in the middle of a flower biome anyway, might as well collect flowers at least. While you were doing your task in peace you could still hear the bickering of the two twins while Isabela and Mirabel oftentimes talk on chat, you assumed they were decorating the community house a few blocks away. Once your inventory was full, you slowly made your way back to the house.
"You still haven't gotten your stuff?" You asked an armor-less character of Camilo, making yours stare at his dead in the eye. His head moved around a few times before he puts out a flower on his hand.
"I did, but I was attacked by a phantom. Went back to run and this is the only thing I managed to salvage" You could hear him pout just from the tone of his voice. It made you giggle in laughter. Sooner while you were giving him a few of your stuff, Isabela and Mirabel's characters popped out on your screen as they entered the house as well.
"I took your stuff, milo" You heard Mirabel. She walked towards him and started dropping the items for Camilo to collect. While they were at it, you proceeded to your room and started fiddling with your storage, looking for more items to craft. You muted yourself and proceeded to play the game while listening to the rest of the Madrigal grandkids.
"I can't believe you left all your stuff in the open but didn't hesitate to drop that flower of yours" Isabela trail off. Camilo mocked her, still sulking from the sudden death caused by you. "I already named it, I can't lose it"
"Why would you even name a flower?" Mirabel asked with a judging tone. Camilo immediately bickered feeling offended. "Hey! An iron golem dropped it after Carlos murdered it. The least I could do is treat it with love in it's memory!"
"If you love your beloved flower so much than your full enchanted armor then might as well give your loot to me." She bites back, "Or even just marry it at this point because you're still not letting it go from your grasp"
"Look as much as these pixelated flowers are pretty, I don't want to 'marry them'" Camilo muttered, insulted. "Also there is a prettier flower that I can actually see in real life." With that you suddenly forgot what you were doing because you were too invested in their bantering now.
"Its me, I'm the flower" Isabela boasted which led Mirabel to let out sarcastic vomiting noises.
"Ew no," Camilo grimaced, "Y/N is my beloved flower."
You unmuted yourself, and yelled, "WHAT?"
"WHAT" Camilo panicked as well, "I thought you left vc!"
You laughed nervously and heard Mirabel and Isabela tease their cousin with squeals. "I've been here the entire time, Camilo. I was only muted!"
"Oh, so it was Carlos who left" You can hear Camilo rapidly type on his keyboard, possibly to message his twin about what happened. He took a glance at the server and saw that Carlos really was offline. He internally cursed himself for being an idiot.
"So, what was it you said about me being your beloved flower?" You teased a nervous Camilo. You can hear him frantically tapping in his keyboard and a few muttered curses when you hear random objects just fall and scatter around his desk. You and the other girls in the vc kept laughing lightly until you saw that Camilo disconnected from the call and went offline.
"He's definitely hiding from you" You heard Isabela say to you. You laughed in response yet again.
"I don't have to worry, he can't hide from me much longer." You reassured her, now with a determined and confident voice after knowing that your all-time crush likes you back. Oh, he's definitely not gonna hear the end of it.

Heeeey....remember when I used to write things?
There is a new chapter for La Traes! I did it! I wrote a thing! 😁 You can check it out below.
-----
Bruno sighed and looked down into his tepid tea, as if there was something in there was looking for. She glanced at him one last time before returning to her own tea, taking a longer drink now that the liquid had cooled.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to her. Could this have anything to do with the vision he refuses to tell me about…?
It was true that Tío Bruno wasn't always the best at getting his words out, especially when he was unsure, but something about this moment felt different. Her stomach clenched anxiously.
He was acting so strange, and if she thought about it, he had been for a while. He’d been overly cautious around her, worried and hovering. Sometimes she'd catch him looking at her like something about her made him incredibly sad. Sure, part of that could just be counted off as classic Tío Bruno but…something told her it wasn’t.
It had to be the vision. It had all started then, that day back in the forest, months before.
She tightened her grip on her mug. It took all of her self control not to ask him about it. She knew he had boundaries that she had to respect when it came to his gift, she’d learned that the hard way. She knew that if she was supposed to know, he’d tell her.
He’d tell her, right?
“Tío, if you have something you want to say, you can just say—”
“I thought you’d died,” he blurted out, far too loud. Mirabel set down her cup and looked at him, her breath held. Her stomach clenched even tighter and she suddenly felt the fear from her dream, almost completely gone, return in full force. Bruno was staring at the table, his hands gripping the cup in front of him so tightly she actually worried for a moment he might break it.

Agustín spends a relaxing morning with his youngest daughter 😍🥺😌
Agustín was sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling his socks on, when Julieta walked into the room, a gurgling Mirabel on her hip. Finished putting his socks on, Agustín stood from the bed, kissing Julieta on the cheek, and bopping little Mirabel's tiny nose.
"Ahhh, well isn't this a sight for sore eyes this morning! My lovely girls! Where are Isabela and Luisa?"
Julieta leaned into his touch, resting her head on his shoulder.
"They're in our bathroom. I still need to do their hair, but this one is being a fussy girl this morning, aren't you, bebita?"
Agustín took the baby from his esposa and tickled her tiny belly.
"Is that so? Are you giving your mamá trouble, hm?"
Mirabel gave him an adorably grumpy glare. Agustín stroked her chubby cheek with the back of his hand.
With two chubby baby hands, Mirabel grabbed three of his very large fingers and inserted them into her mouth, gnawing. Drool was running down her chin and his hand. At least she looked happier now.
It finally clicked.
The drool. The gnawing. The grumpiness.
His little bebé was teething.
"Ah, so that's why you're being little miss grumpy, isn't it? My little Miraboo's getting her milk teeth?" Agustín threw a hand over his heart dramatically. "Oh, no! This cannot be! Stop growing up so fast!"
Peppering feather soft kisses all over her tiny baby face, Agustín reveled in the sweet sound of his youngest hija's giggles. Pressing one last delicate kiss to her nose, he pulled back, watching in amusement as she followed his every move in complete and utter fascination.
Pulling herself up by his shirt, Mirabel grabbed his cheeks with her chubby hands, and leaned in, her lips pursed. Agustín thought she was going to mimic his nose-kisses.
He would soon be proven wrong.
Instead of a kiss on the nose, Mirabel opened her mouth, and took a huge bite, gnawing on his nose as if it were the world's best teething ring.
"Ahh, Miraboo, no, no, no! Papì's nose isn't a chew toy, you silly girl!"

Mirabel found herself in Casita’s kitchen, squinting at a recipe for orange and cranberry cookies. It was a new recipe book from the next town over and everything Julieta had baked from it so far was, of course, utterly amazing.
Mirabel wasn’t much of a baker, but she wanted to give her mamá a break, okay? A nice surprise. One less thing to worry about in the morning.
It’s just, you know, Casita was always so dang busy and Mirabel wanted this to be a surprise…So she was baking in secret at midnight.
Well, no one ever said it was a well thought out plan.
🍪
Mirabel wants to make a nice surprise for Julieta, but no one can ever accuse Mirabel of planning ahead. At least Bruno's happy to help her out.
Or: Mirabel and Bruno make cookies for Julieta, and Mirabel loves her family very much
🍪
For @junosaccount for the secret Santa exchange! Happy holidays 🎄

I was thinking about how after Casita fell, we got to see Julieta's fear when Mirabel disappeared, and her relief when she comes back, including their sweet hug... That being said, she's Agustín's kid too, and I wanted to see his reaction to his baby's reappearance. This is that scene.
Dedicated to @magicalmadrigals who keeps us so well fed with fluff, and I thought deserved some in return.
Word Count: 1400 and some change.
*****
Agustín couldn't remember the last time he had one of his daughters in his bed.  The older they became, the less they sought the comfort of their parents' room.
Isabela was always too fussy about her pillows, and Luisa needed her special double-length bed to even begin to be comfortable, so he supposed it was just a matter of growing up.
But now that the family was crammed into his small family home, Mirabel being in bed beside him was less about a little kid wanting their parents, and more out of necessity, since there wasn't another room.
Still… after the day they'd had, Agustín was more than thrilled to have her close by and in sight.
He glanced to his right, peering over the rims of his glasses to see Mirabel snuggled into the pillows, nose buried deeply in a book she'd found on his old shelf.
It was surreal, being in his childhood bedroom again.  It had been nearly twenty five years since he'd left it, and he never thought he'd return - much less with his entire family in tow.
Unfortunately, now that Casita was more a pile of rubble, rather than a house, they would have to make do.  For awhile, at least.
"I read that book a lot when I was your age,"  Agustín said offhandedly, picking at a small hole in the quilt.
"Yeah?"  Mirabel licked her finger and turned the page, clearly more interested in the words in front of her than holding a conversation.
Still, Agustín wanted to hear her voice.
"Mhm.  I'm almost surprised it's still in one piece, I read it so many times."
Mirabel didn't respond, her eyes flitting across the page in rapid fashion, she was devouring the novel in record time.
Agustín stared ahead, looking around the room.  Not much had changed since he was her age… the same books on the shelves, the same drawings tacked to the walls.  Had the wallpaper always been that ugly?
He didn't know where Julieta had wandered off to, but he was getting tired and hoped she'd be back soon so they could blow the candles out and go to sleep.
The day had been unbelievably long, spending every waking moment (and there were many of them - they'd barely slept a wink the night before) hunting high and low for Mirabel.
Now that she was found, safe and sound beside him, he knew he'd sleep like the dead and wouldn't wake even if a train crashed through the window.
He twiddled his thumbs, trying to find something to keep his mind occupied until his wife returned, and Mirabel finally tore her eyes away from the novel, lowering it into her lap.
"Are you alright, Papi?"
"Wonderful,"  he said.  "Why do you ask?"
"You're acting funny,"  Mirabel said.  "Very… fidgety."
"I'm always acting funny,"  he said, with a wink.  "Just ask your mother."
Mirabel chewed on the inside of her cheek, a horrible habit she'd had since she was a toddler.  She didn't look convinced.
"Why, are you okay?"
Mirabel closed the book and laid it on the nightstand opposite of where he sat.  "I'm sorry, Pa."
Well that wasn't what he'd expected to hear.
"Sorry?"
Before he knew what was happening, Mirabel threw herself into his arms, wrapping her own tightly around his neck.  "I'm so, so sorry."
"Mirabel, you didn't do anything wrong.  Nothing that happened was your fau-"
"I'm sorry for scaring you."
Agustín let out a breathy laugh. "Well, that you did do."  He squeezed her, while she clamored into his lap.  "Scared me a lot, actually."
"I know,"  Mirabel nuzzled her face further into his shoulder.  "I didn't mean to, I promise… I was just so upset."
"Shh, I know,"  Agustín ran a gentle hand up and down her back.  He could hear a tightness in her voice, and he hated when his children cried.  There had been far too many tears shed in the last few days.
The last few weeks, really.  Even before Antonio's birthday, tensions had been high.
"It's alright, amor.  Everything is okay now."
Mirabel moved her head, although he wasn't sure if she was nodding, or using his shirt as a tissue.  He supposed it didn't matter.
They sat there for awhile, just clinging to each other, processing the emotions the last couple of days had brought forward.
He hadn't mentioned it to anyone - not even Julieta - but for a brief time, when they couldn't find Mirabel, he wondered if he'd ever get to hug her like this again.
It was a horrible thought, but one that made him press a hand to the back of her head as he snuggled her closer against his chest.
"You know,"  Agustín began slowly, continuing to rub her back as he spoke.  "Even though you scared the absolute hell out of me-"
He smiled when he heard Mirabel giggle at that.  He didn't curse often in front of the kids, but he knew it always amused them when he did.  "Even though you scared me, I'm still very, very proud of you."
Mirabel pulled back and looked at him through watery eyes, her glasses slightly foggy.  "Really?"
"Extremely."  He removed the glasses from her face and wiped them with his shirt, before placing them gently back on her nose.  "You stood up for yourself.  It was overdue, honestly."
Mirabel wiped her eye with a knuckle, leaning back on her knees.  "I don't like fighting with Abuela but…"
Agustín sighed.  "It was a long time coming.  I lost my temper with her too."
Mirabel stared at him.  "You're the most patient person I know!"
"Even the most patient people have their limits,"  Agustín pressed a kiss to her forehead, a sad smile on his face.  "I think we've all reached our limits this week."
Mirabel nodded.
"That being said, while I am extremely, extremely proud of you,"  Agustín leaned back against the pillows, Mirabel curling into his side like she had when she was much smaller.  "Please never scare me like that again.  My hair is gray enough, thank you very much."  He accentuated his point by running a hand through it, making it stick out on one side.
Mirabel snorted.  "Got it."
They quieted again, and for a time all that was heard was the sound of Mirabel's sisters snoring through the wall.
"It will all work out, I promise,"  Agustín said, a firm hand on her shoulder.  "It'll take time, but everything will settle down eventually.  We'll rebuild the house, finally get you your own room-"
"Ooh, can I pick the color?"  Mirabel perked up at the thought, a brightness to her eyes that had been lacking lately.
Agustín chuckled.  "Any color of the rainbow, amor."  He placed a kiss on the top of her head.  "But I'm serious.  Soon enough, no one will even remember any of this."
Mirabel laughed.  "I have a hard time believing that… but I will say, it'll be nice not to have to listen to Isa and Lu snore all night."
"I'll have you know, you snore too."  Agustín brushed his nose against his daughter's, eliciting a small giggle.
Just then, the door pushed open to reveal Julieta, with a tray and three steaming mugs on it.
"What's so funny?"  She asked, sidling up to the bed and sitting on the edge.
"Papi says I snore,"  Mirabel said.
"He's right,"  Julieta agreed.  "But you get it from him."
Agustín threw his hand over his heart, aghast.  "I would never."
"Why do you think I drink so much coffee in the morning?"  Julieta teased, handing each of them a mug of warm tea.  "It's impossible to sleep with you in the room.  Now with both of you in my bed, it's going to be doubly impossible."
Mirabel laughed again, blowing on the cup.  She settled comfortably between them, nestled deeply in the pillows against the headboard.
They stayed up just long enough to finish their tea, chatting about what color Mirabel was going to paint her new bedroom.
(It seemed she was taking up his offer to paint it any color of the rainbow… and was choosing all of them.)
But it wasn't long before Agustín was blowing out the candle on his nightstand, looking over at his wife and daughter, both sound asleep beside him.
Yes, he thought as he pulled the blankets higher over their shoulders.  He might not have remembered the last time one of his children shared his bed, but he certainly wouldn't forget this one any time soon.

Ayoo I discovered your blog not long ago and I find that what you write is really cool, so if you are interested can you make headcanons of the Madrigal grandchildren when they do summer activities with their S/O pls :))?
Ooo sounds fun
Summer Activities w/ the Madrigal grandkids
This is an interesting idea, I like it! Antonio isn’t on here tho bc he’s a wee babe. Sorry this took forever to answer I kinda forgot about it
warnings: none???
Isabela
I honestly think summer is Isa’s favorite season
Everything’s so bright and colorful and alive
So you guys would be all over the place
Lazy days at the beach
Wandering around the forest
Hell maybe even surfing
Oooo and food
Popsicles, ice cream, etc
There would rarely be a time you guys had a healthy meal
Idk if this counts as a summer activity but y’all would definitely do tie-dye projects as well
Luisa
I can’t really see Luisa doing anything super crazy or active
But she does really love hanging out at the beach with you
She would love making sand castles, burying each other in the sand, and collecting sea shells
She very much enjoys goofing off in the shallows with you
But Luisa is a more laidback person so her favorite is being sprawled out on a big ass blanket or towel under a big ass umbrella with you next to her
On said blanket or towel you guys would sit and watch the sunset
Your knees would be loosely tucked to your chest
She’d be leaning back on her hands with her legs spread out in front of her
You would sigh and rest your head on her shoulder
In return Luisa would rest her head on the top of yours
As the sun dips below the horizon your guys’ wide, lovesick grins would still be shining bright
God it would just be so wholesome, much like everything else with her
Mirabel
You would have to drag Mira out of the house
I mean she doesn’t like being cooped up and would love to go out with you but it’s just so friggin hot
So you’d have to bribe her with a “we can get fabric while we’re out?”
She’d be all dramatic and flop out of her chair and be like “fineeeee”
So y’all would get cold treats and roam about the market and Mira would insist that you were just here for fabrics but you’d lead her everywhere else
You guys would be sweaty as hell but you’d still hold hands
Idk it just seems like Mira would love holding your hand
You’d have so much fun shopping and ppl watching the heat would be forgotten
And by dinner you’d be so full of street food you’d have to skip the family meal
Dolores
Dolores would also not be doing anything super exciting
She’d go shopping and take walks around the town and spend days at the beach with you
I know, I know, I’ve said the beach for a lot of these but that’s the only summer activity I can think of
She seems like a pretty mature person but I could see her building sand castles and splashing around in the shallows
She’d love to walk along the shore as the sun sets, talking about nothing and everything, occasionally picking up a pretty seashell
She doesn’t seem like she’d be a fan of sweets either so probably not too many frozen treats but she’d enjoy an ice cream I think
Camilo
Oh boy
Summer activities with Camilo would be fun but chaotic as hell
I mean almost everything with him is but ya know
Like Isa, you and Milo would also be all over the place
You’d be dancing around town to street performers’ music
Handing ice cream and popsicles out to kids while stealing a few for yourselves
Exploring the forest, walking in streams, splashing in rivers
And if you’re going to the beach you’re gonna be there all day
You’ve got food, floaties, blankets, towels, more food, and one giant ass umbrella
Like it’s so big you’re pretty sure Camilo had to ask specifically for this size
You two are having a blast, building sand castles, finding critters in the sand, starting full blown splash wars in the water
You’d have to fight birds off your food but you were giggling about it after so it wasn’t all bad
You guys would be walking back to your blanket and umbrella as the sky starts to turn orange, finally settling down to watch the sunset
You’d plop down on your blanket and Camilo would wrap a big towel around you both, pulling you close and resting his chin on your shoulder
You’d probably take a deep, content breath and say “it’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
And I have no doubt he’d say “yeah” but not even be looking at the sky
Instead he’s looking at you
You’d scoff and laugh and shove him a little “god you’re so cheesy” but you can’t deny the blush
Camilo would laugh and pull you back into him and be like “ayy, you know you love it”
You’d probably miss the sunset bc of all your flirting and goofing around

—Empanada | Camilo x fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
request. [Anon] Hii, I’m here for a request :3 Can you write a fluff one-shot Camilo x fem reader where Camilo present the reader to the whole family and theirs reactions? Bye have a nice day!!
Tumblr media
Warnings. Ooc Madrigal family, Camilo is ooc(?), Agustin didn't get screen time, suggestive content(just camilo suggesting to call him papi), Fluff, cliché ending.
Notes. Hello Anon!! Thank you sm for the request! Sorry it took so long I got kind of busy with tests but here it is! I hope you have a nice day too:DD!!
Tumblr media
Camilo never found the time to introduce you to his family, Felix and Pepa's Anniversary celebration came around and it seems (un)luck settles with him.
Tumblr media
"Mami, Papi, this is (name), my partner" Camilo your lover introduced as you waved awkwardly towards the two adults.
Today, encanto was celebrating an event which you had no clue what was it about, although looking at the matching colours of the theme and the outfit the couple in front of you were wearing, you assumed it was their anniversary.
According to Camilo, you haven't met anyone from your partners side, well except for Antonio who practically acted as your son during your relationship, Camilo was a little jealous at first because your attention would go to his little brother more if he was in the same room as him, but the more it happens the more he thinks your an amazing example of a wife.
The duo in front of you seemed to be enthusiastic and lovable. I guess you know know where Camilo gets those from.
"I hope my son treats you right" the redhead–Pepa which she introduced as–told you honestly as she took your palms in her hands, a small smile on her face.
Her husband, Felix, was by her side sincerely nodding along with an arm on her waist, it was a sweet relationship, like the both of yours, your just more...introverted.
"He does" you started and starred happily at the both of them, your lips twitching upward unconsciously "you have a great son Mrs. Madrigal"
Suddenly, a call of a pair of names alerted the duo of their need of appearance, giving the both of you a smile "no need for honorifics, call me Tia if you would like so"
"Call me papa too!" Felix butted in as Camilo playfully scoffed at this "pa! (Name) probably doesn't want to-"
"Thank you so much Tia and papa, happy anniversary too" you told the both of them, Camilo looking at you dumbfoundedly as the couple in front of looked at you proudly.
"The pleasure is all ours"
"That ended well" you told the curly head beside you, a smile plastered on your features, Camilo on the other hand playfully pouted at you.
Crossing his arms at you "it didn't! How am I gonna live with you calling my father 'papa'?!" You laughed at him, patting his shoulder apologisingly "don't worry, I'm not, let a man have their fun"
"You should call me papi" Camilo smirked at you, while you looked at him bored out of your mind "I would rather not"
Not long after the conversation, a voice interrupted the both of you, directing your attention towards the crowd
"(name)!" A familiar voice shouted from the distance, you grinned at it and kneeled down, readying yourself for a force of impact.
"Tonito'! Hello!" You greeted and hugged the boy, the curly head giggling back at you while you squeezed him tightly before carrying him on your arm.
"How is my buddy going?" You grinned at him while he answered your question with the things he had done with Mirabel, which you pressumed who you will meet next.
Speaking of the devil, a curly head emerged from the crowd, panicking as her hair seems to be dishevelled, however, she seemed to perked up at Antonio's voice not too far from where she is standing, directing her attention to you and the boy happily chatting in your arms.
"Antonio, there you are, I was looking for you" she sighed in relief and Antonio looked clueless but shrugged her statement off.
He pointed at you with a smile on his face "I'm with (name)! By the way, (name) this is Mirabel, Mirabel this is (name)" he introduced the both of you, if you're asking where Camilo might be he is sitting on the floor, bored that you have just been introducing yourself to his family the whole day.
It's his fault that you just met them today.
"Pleasure to meet you" you grinned and placed Antonio down, shaking hands with the female madrigal, she complied and shook hands with you.
"Your Camilo's partner right? You know you should have someone better" she whispered at you jokingly, Camilo whining just below the two of you as Mirabel giggled at him.
"Please, he's the only one available" you joked back, the boy below you shooting you an offended expression, exaggerating it with a hand on his hand.
The both of you laughed at his expression while you calmly told him that your joking, Antonio, who now wanted nothing to do in the conversation, tugged Mirabels hand and waved a goodbye to you, wanting to join into the dancing in the center.
"We should go get food" you muttered to Camilo while sticking your hand out to him, helping him up to stand, he happily obliged, finally happy to spend time with you rather than listening to introductions.
"I heard Tia made some Empanada's!" The boy beside you excitedly told you as he unconsciously held your hand, dragging you along the food stall.
"I never tasted Tia's Empanada's before" you replied, now looking for the tray that stored the Empanada's.
Camilo frowned when he couldn't look for the food he excitedly wanted to taste, unfortunately for the both of you, the food seems to be out of stock, which made the both of you eat arepas instead.
"Arepas taste better anyway" you tempted to enlighten the situation as you realized how bummed out your partner was when the Empanada's were out.
Camilo pouted at you, but lightheartedly chuckled at your attempt at making him smile, although it was a bummer the both of you weren't able to munch on the Empanada's.
"Huh? (name)? Didn't know you were here" A once again familiar voice spoke to you, well you assumed spoke to you as the two of you looked upwards.
Camilo grumbled and visibly pouted at how somebody disturbed your quality time together, not to mention how another introduction will happen right infront of him.
"Luisa! Hey, how are you?" You smiled and fist bumped the taller female infront of you, the curly haired boy frowning in confusion at the interaction.
"I'm doing great! I also followed your advice! It's really fun to see a dandelion grow" Luisa Charmed in, the both of your now engaging in a deep conversation of who knows what.
Camilo on the other hand looked stunned, since when did the two of you meet? And a dandelion? Advice? Dude, how long is this friendship been going? How come he wasn't aware about it?
His thoughts were abruptly cut off by another voice pitching in the conversation.
"Isa! How are you doing today?" You greeted and hugged her back, Isabela smiling up at you, until her gaze landed on a lost child right beside you.
"Oh! This is my partner I was talking about" you introduced as Isabela frowned, Luisa congratulating the both of you of having a healthy relationship.
"You have horrible taste" Isabela calmly stated, although you couldn't identify who she was talking to as she faced the arepas in the counter.
"What-" "I'm not talking to you"
Camilo shut his mouth after he got cutted off, Ouch, what's up with Camilo Hate all of a sudden, You snickered at that while your lover shooted you a glare.
"Anyways, (name) you should teach me how to do flower crowns! I heard you know how to" Isabela excitedly told you, although you assumed she doesn't mean right now as people seems to be calling her.
"Sure, Whenever your free" you grinned while she happily nodded, before waving a goodbye, it was a short conversation but hey, it was an interaction.
Luisa on the other hand, was also needed for something, the piano you pressumed as she also waved a goodbye while running towards a direction to who knows what.
"I got fresh Empanada's" Julieta called out when she noticed the two of you near the food Bruno tagging along with a few rats with him, you grinned while Camilo's eyes sparkled with excitement, grabbing two Empanada's on the tray.
"Sorry I got it late, Agustin got chased by bees" she sighed at her husbands clumsiness, you waved her off, also grabbing an empanada on the tray.
"It's fine Tia, as long as Tio is okay" you smiled up at her.
"Aww sometimes I think your too nice for our Camilo"
Camilo could feel his heart shatter, I guess today really is hate on Camilo day, are you really out of his league? He thought he's the only one who thinks that.
"By the way, this is Bruno, I believe you haven't met him" Julieta Introduced as you nodded along lifting a hand up towards the boy.
"Hello, I'm (name) Camilo's partner" Bruno sort of looked stunned but softly smiled and shook you hand "I'm Bruno, but you probably already know that"
You smiled as your attention suddenly went to his rats, who were hiding in his ruana, Bruno realized this and hid them more, thinking you didn't want to see them "sorry- they are my friends, they always-" and was cut of by you.
"You should introduce me to them sometime, I would love to meet them" you grinned as Bruno starred at you at utter disbelief, his attention suddenly went to Camilo, who looked dumbstruck at what Julieta said earlier, but still listening in the conversation.
"Camilo, take care of them, she's a keeper"
"Oh my, its nice to finally meet you" a soft spoken voice slightly, caught your attention if it wasn't for Julieta looking further behind you, cutting off the telepathic conversation Camilo and Bruno were having
"Wait sorry, are we disturbing something here or?" Mariano, Dolores's partner apologised while Julieta politely shook her head.
"No, I'm afraid your not" she smiled before adding, holding both of yours and Camilo's shoulder by each hand "well, we'llleave the four of you to it, I have to find Agustin before he gets stings again"
"And I have to find Roberto too" Bruno added to Julieta's statement as you nodded in understanding.
The four of you bid your goodbyes, you mentally thinking why every encounter you engage on another one, however, you do not decide the plot of this story.
Once Julieta and Bruno took their leave, Dolores excitedly held both of your hands, she probably wanted to see you for so long but your paths couldn't cross with the things the both of you had to do.
"Hi, I'm Dolores, Camilo's sister and I want you to know that Camilo once peed thinking that you will reject him" she introduced, calmly stating an embarrassing moment like it didn't affect the person involved which by the way was now trying to prohibit his sister to tell more.
"Okay okay, I won't tell her more, But I want you to know is that my dear brother loves you dearly and would die to save you, me and Mariano have been trying to get the both of you together when we saw you play with the children with him"
Completely ignoring her word, Dolores continued embarrassing her brother more, but fortunately for Camilo, its hiss first time the whole day to hear someone say the both of you are meant to be together, like two peas in a pod.
Although the sweet moment didn't last long as abuela also approached the four of you, ah yes the final boss, it may not seem to be for others as abuela stopped being into 'perfection' after the fall of Casita, but to Camilo, getting Abuela's blessing is like winning the lottery.
"Dolores, if you may" She slightly told her, The girl beside you, nodding away and headed to the dance floor with Mariano, the both of them swaying to the music with smiles on her face, of course not before telling you to meet up with her right after.
You looked at Abuela a soft smile on your face, yes your partner may told his issues to you about her abuela before but then again, you understood her perspective but you don't encourage it either.
She softly smiled towards you to, then to Camilo "I'm happy for you Camilo" gently, she took her hand in hers, your partner stunned at what the older female said.
"Please take care of him as I couldn't do so" she softly told you, your eyes slightly blurred on you, it wasn't emotional oh dear no—you just know the history of those words that made it emotional.
You removed your hands from her hold, taking her own and smiled to her, Camilo on the sidelines looking at the both of you, still slightly stunned but very happy, more likely very happy at the next words you spoke.
"I will, always"

Parents: Encantober 29
To Agustín’s surprise, being a ghost isn’t half bad. Sure, he’s dead and the rest of the family is alive, but there was little chance he was dying from something other than bees. Of course, running into a bee’s nest and tripping off a cliff seemed a little…clumsy, even for him.
Being a ghost has advantages. He can float, he glowed if he tried hard enough, and Mirabel could still see and hear him. There were other ghosts, too, so Agustín soon found himself part of the undead community. Then he was leading a book club, although Mirabel had to participate and turn pages for him to read aloud.
Agustín got to watch his daughters grow up, even if Isabela and Luisa couldn’t hear him. He picked up the habit of throwing out idle comments—usually with Mirabel repeating them.
“You’d look better in the navy paired with the maroon,” Mirabel passes on to Julieta once.
She froze, hand stroking over the navy dress in her closet. “This was always one of your papá’s favorites.”
“I know.” Mirabel rolls her eyes because Agustín spends half his free time waxing on the beauty of his wife. “You’re lucky he can’t kiss you or I’d never have any peace.”
“Mi vida?” Julieta stares at Mirabel and Agustín makes a cut gesture.
Mirabel, unfortunately, has given up on explaining her papá’s presence. After the fifth time Julieta presses healing food on her, for your head, she gives up on convincing her.
Now, she rolls her eyes again. “Just being loca, Mamá. You know how my head is.”
“I know what your sass is like, that’s for sure.” But Julieta wears the navy dress and pairs it with a maroon headband. Agustín drools over her for the rest of the day, much to Mirabel’s disgust.
“Bruno needs to leave his tower more often.” Agustín drifts behind Mirabel as she climbs the stairs to Bruno’s room.
“I think he does it just to piss off Abuela,” she huffs. “He’s got plenty of friends in town, now.”
“Ay, why won’t those two talk?”
“Because they’re as stubborn as two donkeys?”
Agustín opens his mouth to berate her, then gives up. It’s true. There’s a silent war between the two that’s been running since Casita was built. Honestly, they might find more comfort in being at odds than on the same side.
Alma increased their salt order without a fuss when Julieta quietly brought up how fast it was disappearing. Alma also pointed out how Bruno was dirtying her floors every time he threw it.
“If I could,” Agustín continues, floating half over the staircase Mirabel’s still climbing, “I’d knock their heads together until they saw sense.”
Mirabel stops, leaning on the stone wall. “Papá, you had six months you could have knocked their heads together with real hands.”
He sniffs. “I know. I wasn’t ready. I wanted to, uh, give them time to do it on their own.”
She gives him a flat stare. “Abuela scares you.”
“Well—yeah.” He gives up on the bravado, rubbing his head. “Trying to win Alma over to marry your Mamá…it wasn’t easy. I think she finally gave up because I kept showing up injured all the time.”
Mirabel starts for the stairs again. “Didn’t you break your wrist climbing a tree once?”
“Mi amor wanted an apple,” he defends.
“What about the time you sprained your ankle getting out of bed?”
“I…the floor was slippery.”
“And the time when—”
“Okay, I’m clumsy, I get it!”
Mirabel’s laughing, though, so Agustín grins as well. They’ve spent more time together now that he’s a ghost than they have alive. It’s—refreshing to see a side of Mirabel he hadn’t before. It’s nice to give sole focus to her from time to time, as well.
Mirabel’s at the top of the stairs, so Agustín hangs back to let her talk to Bruno alone. “Remember, I need some new books for the ghost book club!”
Mirabel throws him a thumbs-up. “Got it, Papá. But this time, I’m picking something I want to read, too.”
He grins, happy she’s willing to carry out his request. He wouldn’t force her to participate if she didn’t want to, but she seems to enjoy the reading time. She can’t see the other ghosts, but Agustín relays their questions and tells her who’s coming and going.
Being a ghost isn’t Agustín’s first choice, but he doesn’t regret his demise. Time with Mirabel is an unexpected bonus.
And, really, his book club is very good.
