The dragon prince - Ft Diavolo part 8
part:  1 I  2 I 3 I 4 I 5 I 6 I 7
Obey me! Monster tales masterlist
tw: dragon death
-----------------
The firedragon lets out several angry roars. It looks like she is feeling betrayed.
The fire dragon then readies herself to spit fire. I get into a defensive stance to avoid it.
Diavolo doesn't even flinch. Without hesitation his massive claws attack her jugular and cleanly cut her head off.
My eyes go wide. Such raw power.
The large fire dragon hits the ground.
I put my sword away and go to the massive corpse.
Diavolo looks at the dead dragon. I'm unsure what to do for him right now. So I simply put a hand on his large and scaly front leg.
He looks at me. I can see confusion in his eyes. "Aren't you scared now?"
"No. You did what you had to do. And besides you are you, just a bit bigger."  I smile and playfully slap his arm.
Diavolo chuckles. "You are a strange one."
"You are the one to talk. Should we bury her?" I look at the massive body. It never even occurred to me to bury them.
"No dragons just leave their dead for others to feed upon them." He speaks softly. "Let's return to the village."
"Alright, just let me pray for her for a moment." No matter what she did. This is still a lost life.
Diavolo calmly waits for me. Probably with his own thoughts.
"I'm done now. Let's return." After a bit I return to him.
"So you want a ride or walk?" Diavolo offers me his back.
"As tempted as I am, I think the villagers won't be happy about that." I decline him politely.
"Too bad, but maybe next time." Diavolo turns into his human form once again.
By now I'm used to seeing this.
It's strange how fast it has become normal for me.
I wonder what it will take for others to come to this point.
Dragons living with humans is becoming something that I can see.
I start to turn around when Diavolo stops me.
"We can take a shortcut." He is seemingly not interested in taking the long trip over the mountains again.
"There is a shortcut and you didn't tell me?" I glare at him, feeling pretty offended.
He lifts his hands in a defensive manner. "I apologize, but I wanted to get to know you better." He looks at me with puppy dog eyes.
I sigh deeply. "I'll forgive you but only this once." Without his little deception we probably wouldn't be as close as we are now. So I can't really fault him.
Diavolo shows me the hidden path.
"How did you even know about this?" It seems strange since this isn't his territory.
"I played here often when I just hatched." Diavolo smiles, seemingly remembering his playful days.
I giggle at the thought. "I'm sure you were adorable."
"Haha most people called me impressive, but I can imagine how you would call me adorable." Diavolo laughs in a heartfelt manner. It seems he has returned to normal.
I feel great relief at that.
"Impressive is definitely one way I'd describe you. Along with being bold and maybe a bit brazen." I laugh.
"Really? Brazen? Not cool or awesome?" He seems a bit dejected.
"Maybe you'll earn a cute, if you keep pouting." I giggle playfully and run away from him.
"Hey, you're not running away!" Diavolo laughs.
It feels right to have such innocent fun with him. It's very playful.
One could argue that we are flirting. Wait, am I flirting?
With my duty done I feel something surfacing that I had ignored so far.
Well, I better forget about that for now.
There is still one more thing to do.

The fall of the seagulls
An old man was lounging on the quay wall when he saw a seagull fighting with another seagull for a piece of fish waste out of the corner of his eye.
Without any excitement, he picked up a random stone lying there and hurled it with full force in the direction of the fighting seagulls.
The tourists and locals who were in the same place as him at the same time only became aware of his stone throw when, as if by some cruel cosmic coincidence, both of the really large seagulls fell dead from the sky with short but violent screams and in a very desolate state.
He himself simply continued his activity of loitering as if nothing had happened that required his attention. In contrast to all the others who were completely preoccupied by the suddenly different gulls and their loud departure with the special impact on the waves in the harbour basin.
Even those who had only realised the scene later had been busy trying to explain the horrific cause of the seagulls' loud departure, or at least trying to understand it.
The old man sat down in one of the tourist attraction coffee shops where the discussion about the event was in full swing and looked into the many puzzled faces of young and old who were all still trying to figure out why?
And ordered a coffee from a waiter who rushed to him as soon as he had sat down and said to him: did you notice that the two seagulls I mean fell from the sky and landed dead with a scream in the harbour basin? I assume they screamed first and then died, right? The waiter answers of course only so it makes sense, whereupon the old man said that's the most logical thing to do.
He looked at the distraught waiter and said in a calm voice: "Consistents I think and please bring them two bags of sugar, thank you! The waiter looked at the old man and asked: what do you mean? He just smiled and nodded and looked out of the sea.

idk how to say this without sounding really boomer-ey, but like, what happened to horror content for kids? maybe i’m using the word “horror” a little liberally but i remember when i was a kid there was SO much out there that existed solely for the purpose of scaring kids in a safe, fun, age-appropriate way. just off the top of my head there’s goosebumps, scary stories to tell in the dark, tales from the crypt (little before my time though), coraline, mirror mask, monster house, dark crystal (more incidentally scary but w/e), even courage the cowardly dog; all these really fantastic books and shows and movies that let kids explore being scared on their own terms.
now there’s idk, those new addams family movies? but those aren’t really scary.
i see people talking about the “kid-ification” of horror games and i can’t help but wonder if part of the reason kids latch onto that stuff so much now is because there’s nowhere else for them to experience healthy, safe fear. a little kid wants to get the thrill of being scared, but their parents won’t let them watch any actual horror movies, so they go on youtube and what do you know, there’s markiplier playing another cheap horror game set in a toy store or whatever, and now that kid’s fear quota is being met. (obviously there’s more to it than that, but it’s a theory i have)
this like, doesn’t really matter probably but idk, i feel bad that ~kids these days~ aren’t getting the experience of something scary made specifically for them with their genuine enjoyment in mind, rather than whatever the next fnaf ripoff is that just wants to sell them merch. being a kid and watching a well-made scary movie feels like you’re finally being taken seriously; you’re not being babied or coddled, you’re being trusted to face the skeksis and the other mother and the nebbercracker house and not back down. i wish people were still making media that respected kids that much.

another detail for bugliker shuro: in the chapter 60 cover, his succubus is falin with insect wings & legs! a little reminiscent of laios's tbh...
Oh my god you’re RIGHT…
Tumblr media
Even at the most mosquito-like we see them be in canon they only have wings and hair-like antennas, not this full fit with collar and extra legs… The wings don’t look the same… Oh my god Toshiro’s ideal is a bug wife

okay but percy calling the minotaur 'ground beef' is so diabolical. because imagine being the well-known. undefeatable. half-bull half-man. seven foot tall monster. prancing around in your fanciest fruit of the loom tighty whities. and this twelve year old. with no objective experience in swordfighting. whose mom you just violently squished to death. calls you a feast for carnivores. the important part of a taco. the beef of the wellington. i would have gave up.

The dragon prince - Ft Diavolo part 7
 part: 1 I  2 I 3 I 4 I 5 I 6
Obey me! Monster tales masterlist
We continue our way down the mountain.
The path is much easier now.
We only stop a few times, mostly due to Diavolo wanting to show me alongside the path. Pretty flowers and cute animals are seemingly irresistible to him. It's unexpected but also something I like about him. His childlike expression causes me to smile as well.
Finally, we reach the main road around lunchtime.
We are extremely lucky and manage to hitch a ride with a farmer.
We eat in peace on the back of the cart.
Everything seems just more fun with Diavolo at my side.
Now that we are so close to our destination I feel a sense of loss. Knowing that our time will come to an end soon.
"Is there anything that is bothering you?" Diavolo eyes me with worry. "Not really, I was just thinking about meeting the dragon." I'm not even lying. "Are you worried about the upcoming battle?" Diavolo looks deep into my eyes. Almost as probing into my head. "No, I'm quite confident in my skills. Actually, I wonder that you seem so calm about it." This must be bothering him. Diavolo smiles at me. "I know what I have to do. I'm just grateful for this opportunity." I look over at him. He is so calm but I sense that he is uneasy. I put a hand on his shoulder. "We are in this together, don't forget that." He looks at me surprised and then chuckles. "You are right, thanks for reminding me."
Then the cart stops on the edge of the forest.
We thank the farmer and make our way towards the dragon's nest.
The forest is rather overgrown. Not a surprise. I'm sure most will avoid a dragon's nest.
The temperature is rising when we get closer to the nest.
Both of us are tense, focusing on what is ahead of us.
A part of me still hopes that we can somehow resolve this situation, but I know the odds are more than low.
Soon we reach a hill that is completely covered in ash. The dragon's nest.
Fire dragons need a lot of heat. Ash is the perfect ground to lay eggs for them.
The dragon approaches it. It's natural for it to defend its territory.
It glares at us, puffing itself up. Ready to shoot fire if we don't run away.
Diavolo nods at me.
I'm ready to fight but my sword stays where it is.
"Firedragon, I'm Diavolo. I came to ask you about the destruction of a village on the other side of the mountain. Did you do that?" He asks in a firm voice.
The dragon seems to glare at Diavolo. It lets out a single loud roar.
I don't need a translation for this response.
"Why did you do it?" I ask the dragon. It turns its flaming eyes towards me.
It roars with much vigor. It almost blows me away. It seems to be a painful sound.
Diavolo has a solemn expression. "I'm very sorry to hear that." He then turns to me. "They destroyed her eggs." I can't imagine how painful that might be. " You have my sincere condolences. But regardless you can't just destroy a whole village because of that."
The dragon doesn't sound happy with my response. I can't exactly fault it. "Exactly did you even get the humans that did that?" Diavolo stands firmly at my side.
While the dragon seems to get more irritated now. Its roaring gets angrier. "It doesn't sound like she cares. All humans are the same for her. She just wants them all dead." Diavolo seems pretty sad when he translates these words. "I understand that you hate humans for what they did, but you killed innocent people. There are only two choices left. Either you go or you die." This situation is past the point of negotiations. I can understand her reason but it doesn't excuse her actions.
Her response is to let smoke escape her nostrils and to try and claw me.
I easily avoid her attack and draw my sword. Her decision is clear to me.
I steel my resolve and get ready to slay her.
Diavolo stops me with his arm. "Please let me handle this." I look at him surprised. "You don't have to do this." This must be painful for him. Diavolo shakes his head. "No, I have to understand this part as well. Even if it's painful." His resolve is clear as day. "Alright, but if you get in trouble I will intervene." With that, I step backward. Still having my sword ready, just in case. "Thanks, I appreciate that." He smiles weakly.
Then he turns into his massive dragon form.

Happiness is like those palaces in fairy tales whose gates are guarded by dragons: we must fight in order to conquer it.
Alexandre Dumas
All of my tales are based on the fundamental premise that common human laws and emotions have no validity or significance in the cosmos-at-large.
H. P. Lovecraft
The only monsters I have ever seen are people who believe they are always right because they think they are doing the right thing. And when you tell them they're not, they see themselves as victims of embellishment.
Question: How do you keep a conspiracy hidden when all the conspirators are dead. So explain to the world why everyone always knows it's a conspiracy when everyone knows it's a conspiracy.
It was not only Caesar who really realised that there was a conspiracy against him, but all those affected by such conspiracies were usually unable to recognise them.
