Transformers Rise Of The Autobots
Subtitle: My new favourite transformer
Tumblr media
This movie contains slight cussing and suggestive jokes. Parental guidance may be advised but I don't think it's necessary.
******************************************************************
Now I want to start off by saying that to me this is not the best transformers in terms of action. But it does contain a decent amount of action.
That being said, this is one of my favourite transformers in existence. This movie's concept is a bit different from the others. The main plot of the movie is that the cybatronian war took place and Optimus orders that the Autobots regroup on earth. This has caused the Autobots to become stranded on the planet for the last 7 years. Now out of nowhere, a strange stone(forgot the name) that acts like a key to open portals anywhere in the universe appears. The Autobots see this as their only way of going home and they try to acquire the key from the museum with the help of a human named Noah.
The name of the enemies in this movie is not the Decepticons but rather The Terrorcons who serve Unicron and are trying to acquire the key so that it may aid Unicron in the consumption of more worlds.
Now as interesting as that sounds, I wouldn't really hype this movie in terms of action. Why I say this because I am a huge Optimus enthusiast and in this movie, Optimus is easily beaten and is cold towards humans. Sure the movie has an explanation for it but I don't really enjoy the way he was thrown around. That being said his attitude as well wasn't likeable. His design in the movie is also different from Bayverse much to my dislike.
I prefer the Bayverse designs of Optimus and bumble bee because of the details that go into their designs. In this movie, Optimus wasn't my type of character at all and it sort of made me upset. But the creators of the movie revived my heart with Mirage.
Mirage has to be one of the best characters that Transformers has ever created and is one of the main reasons I watched the movie. he has this sense of comedy that speaks out to me and was more of the comic relief of the movie. He easily became likeable and was more of the star of the movie than the other Autobots and topped even Noah in terms of likability according to me.
After being bombarded with Mirage edits on TikTok, I decided to watch the movie! I personally enjoyed the movie because it was a balance of comedy and action. I would also recommend this movie to my friends and family as well as strangers on the internet who love to laugh as well as watch good fight scenes.
The soundtrack as well was top-tier for music lovers. I would rate this movie a 7/10 for you guys but a 9/10 personally because I would definitely watch it again.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J.K. Rowling
Tumblr media
Image taken from Jactionary
Rating: 5 / 5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is a masterpiece that stands out as my favourite entry in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. This third instalment takes the wizarding world to new heights, delivering an enchanting blend of mystery, magic, and character development that captivated me instantly.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this book is how it effortlessly evolved from the more childish beginning of "Philosopher's Stone" into a darker and more complex narrative. The story takes a much more mature turn, delving into themes of the past, friendship, and identity, which made it relatable and engaging to read this book growing up alongside Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Rowling's world-building continued to amaze me, with the introduction of the Marauder's Mapa and new creatures such as Hippogriffs, which added intrigue and depth to the Hogwarts setting. The expansion of the wizarding world with locations like the Shrieking Shack and Hogsmeade added layers to the story, which made the universe feel more lived-in and expansive.
The character development in this novel is nothing short of extraordinary. Harry, Ron, and Hermione all face growth and personal challenges, and their evolving friendship is a central theme. Harry's struggle to come to terms with his history and identity is particularly relatable and poignant, making him a more sympathetic and well-rounded character.
One of the most memorable and my favourite, aspects of the book is the introduction of Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, two complex and multi-dimensional characters who challenge the preconceived notions of evil and good in the wizarding world. Their presence in the story added ambiguity that elevated the storyline even more.
The plot itself is a thrilling rollercoaster ride, filled with unexpected twists and turns. The mystery surrounding Black's true intentions and the truth about what happened to Harry's parents kept me on the edge of my seat. The revelation about the time-travel element and the Marauder's Map added complexity that further showcased Rowling's storytelling prowess.
Furthermore, "Prisoner of Azkaban" perfectly addressed themes of injustice and the consequences of one's actions, as exemplified by the wrongly accused Sirius Black. It teaches valuable life lessons about forgiveness, empathy, and the importance of looking beyond appearances.
In terms of criticism, it is difficult to find fault with "Prisoner of Azkaban". You could argue that the time-travel angle can be confusing, but it actually adds to the story's complexity and richness. Additionally, while the book is darker than its predecessors, it is precisely this evolution that made it so compelling for me.
In conclusion, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" successfully takes the series to a new level of maturity while retaining the magical charm that has enchanted me from the beginning. This book is not just a pivotal moment in the Harry Potter series; it is a timeless classic that continues to resonate with me to this day.

Goncharov coming third in tumblr's top 100 movies of 2023 is so damn funny. Imagine being a film studio exec who spent millions making some of the other 97 movies listed below it only to be beaten by a film that cost exactly zero dollars to make and doesn't exist

Tomorrow is a special anniversary. Last year, I reviewed Percival Everett’s “Erasure.” I had no idea less than a year later we’d be gifted with a film adaptation. This is one of the precious few films that actually surpasses how good the spice material is. If you haven’t seen American Fiction yet, do it. Because tomorrow I’m releasing a 1 year anniversary review to talk about both the book and film! Stay tuned!

The realest part of the Barbie Movie was when Barbie was like "okay but what if this hurts his feelings? what if this makes him sad? :(" after Ken stole her house, stole her car, and stole her agency, because as a woman you still have to second guess everything you do on the assessment of whether it might hurt a man's feelings.
And then that apprehension was proven right one million times over by the entire Conservative Internet Manosphere pissing and shitting and screaming themselves hoarse over Barbie daring to hurt a man's feelings.

absolutely fucking reeling from puss in boots the last wish. my grown ass friends made me see it and it absolutely fucked. it was mad max fury road for kids. it was a horror movie about the fear of death. it was a western about an ageing outlaw trying to regain his youth with the help of his ex fiance and homeless harvey guillen. it was about found family. it was about needing people and asking for help. it had the best depiction of a panic attack i've ever seen in a mainstream film. the villain looked exactly like boris johnson. there was a wicker man reference. it had a kill count higher than most slasher films. it set up shrek 5. they even said fuck.

Barbie
Subtitle: Is Barbie Worth the hype
Tumblr media
Now, I am one of the biggest Barbie enjoyers. I was even contemplating going to watch this in the cinema. I've heard people call this the greatest movie. But I'm here to give you the truth. If you look on the internet, this movie has a three-star review. A balance of five stars and 1 star and hardly any in between. This is my honest review.
********************************************************
To start with, I believe that the movie had some key points. I did enjoy Barbie because she could be whatever she wanted to be. I enjoyed looking at her life and watching almost every movie she had. However, ten minutes into the movie, I had to take a break. One thing people know about me is that I hate when things get political. Even if you must put it in a movie, I'd prefer it to be subtle and not loud.
The start of the movie felt like a lecture. The whole thing about Barbie's life being perfect every day and Ken's day only being perfect if Barbie looked at him felt too far-fetched. To add to that, there was a line saying that a pregnant doll is just too weird. I don't know what they were getting at but I felt like I was being lectured.
I got so tired of listening that I had to put the movie on 1.5x speed to get through it.
I gathered that this movie is more about Men being bad and the patriarchy being bad. It's also about women being good and the Matriarchy being better. Every single stereotype was rolled into a movie and spat at me as a watcher. Not to mention in the movie when Barbie was told that she sent feminism back 40 years or something, she just ran and cried. It also portrayed men as stupid.
It also has this narrative that in the real world, everyone hates women. There was also a part where they said that Ken was absolutely useless. Look I prefer the original series. I never looked down on Ken nor did I look down on Barbie. I loved how independent Barbie was and Ken didn't have to be put down so that Barbie could shine.
The next area of complaint is that when Ken reversed Barbie land and treated Barbie the way she treated him, she broke down about it She didn't like feeling unimportant which is kind of ironic. Not to mention that when everything fell apart, all she could do was lay flat on her face and sob. Nothing like the Barbie that I remember. I don't mind the sobbing but Barbie was never one to give up!
Not to mention that the solution to understanding all this was to rant about how impossible it was for it to be a woman. Now I'm not going to get into politics because I hate it and I hate talking about politics but this movie was a waste of an hour and 48 minutes of my life.
I went in with as little expectation as possible and was met with a word vomit of why the matriarchy is better and why men are bad and women should be in charge of everything. It wasn't my cup of tea and I'm honestly glad I didn't go and watch it in the cinema. I wouldn't have made it to the end.
I know I’m the end there was some sort of reparation but honestly, I’m over the movie.
Look, you can be anything you want to be regardless of your gender and no matter what you do either as a man or a woman, someone is always going to have something to say about you. Life is difficult for everyone and while Barbie does highlight some key struggles, it doesn't paint the full picture. All it does is show a certain portion that will please society. If the film was not aimed at making a statement then it wouldn't be an issue. The movie aimed at making a statement instead of making a correct statement. Men and women are unique in their own ways and face different sets of problems. That is my own opinion.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone but feminists and quite honestly, it was made for them. I wouldn't watch it again and if not for this review, I would have quit at the first 10 minutes. It’s not my cup of tea. You can promote feminism in a way that doesn't come up as lecturing, you can promote feminism in a way that does not put men down. It's safe to say that I'll never watch this movie again. I will never recommend it to people close to me and unless you're really into blatant lectures on why women have it harder than men, I wouldn't recommend it to you. I would rate this movie a 2.9/10 and that's because some parts were funny to me. It’s my opinion, if you liked the movie then good on you.
Crushes from the movie: you guessed it, none.

I’m Glad My Mom Died- Jeanette McCurdy Review
Tumblr media
Image taken from Entertainment Weekly.
Rating: 5 / 5
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A heartbreaking and hilarious memoir by iCarly and Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy about her struggles as a former child actor-including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother-and how she retook control of her life.
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother's dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called "calorie restriction," eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, "Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn't tint hers?" She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.
In I'm Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail-just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly, she is thrust into fame. Though Mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi ("Hi Gale!"), Jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. These issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande, her mother dies of cancer. Finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she wants.
Told with refreshing candour and dark humour, I'm Glad My Mom Died is an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.
McCurdy is probably best known for her role as Sam in the sitcom iCarly. After quitting acting, she turned to writing and created this amazing memoir that paints the real picture of her life as a child celebrity. In the beginning pages, an all-grown-up Jeanette McCurdy is watching her mother in a coma, while witnessing her three brothers whisper to her parent in hopes of waking her. When it’s the author's turn to address her mother, she tells her that her weight is 98 pounds- the goal her mother wanted McCurdy to reach.
This is the first sign of the emotional, physical, and mental abuse McCurdy suffered at the hands of her mother. This tells the reader what book they have signed up to read: a heartbreaking memoir about a woman trying to find a balance between violence and love.
Recently, abused celebrities, such as Paris Hilton, have taken the stand against the physical and mental abuse they endured growing up. This display of honesty shows their vulnerable side and ensures the reader's belief in their statements.
McCurdy is not stating I WAS ABUSED, she is attempting to navigate the difficulties she went through as a child and if she owes her mother anything. She includes her child-self’s P.O.V. and recounts her thoughts ‘I’m glad mom gets what she wants’, as it was earlier than dealing with the tantrums her mother threw regularly. Another heart-wrenching anecdote is when McCurdy realises she has hit puberty and her breasts are coming in, something which should be avoided to stop weight gain. She asked her mum to ‘stop the boobies coming’, and she helped her with the secrets of losing weight- calorie restriction which turned into a multitude of eating disorders as McCurdy got older. The author has a special talent for putting the reader in the child’s shoes, making them feel and see the whole innocence behind asking for a mother's help.
The author has taken time to remember the arduous stages of her life and translated that into an understandable text for the reader. This memoir is an absolute triumph and credit to McCurdy and an excellent read that I highly recommend.
