I’m thinking about Hannibal and Mischa and how Hannibal is a monster but before he was a monster, he was still this growing thing trying very hard to fit into his human skin that simply ceased speaking because the brain was a monster but the heart was just a very small, very sad boy who loved his sister and then perhaps, hated his sister for making him feel the things she did when her death was used to nourish his body.

#I watched Hannibal rising a few months ago and I think often about how Hannibal #is seen as someone who is deeply traumatised by the death of his sister and parents but I don’t think he really interpreted it as trauma #so much as he interpreted it as a puppy being thrown into a cage interprets that it is being punished #Hannibal is not a traditional psychopath because he has feelings he’s a very low empathy person compared to will’s high empathy but that’s #not why he’s a monster #Hannibal is a monster because he delighted in killing those men who hurt his sister more than he enjoyed the act of revenge #because he likes to watch people experience the same cannibalism as he did #and he likes to manipulate and hurt and feign humanity but in reality #if the opportunity arose #he would gladly eat mischa again to punish her because eating for him is a form of punishment #he sees humans as little more than pigs but he’s also needlessly cruel in the way he slaughters them because he enjoys it but remember that #he is not a traditional psychopath which means that he likely never killed animals or anything as a child so if humans are pigs to him #it’s because he intentionally sees them that way #i’m rambling #hannibal #hannibal series #nbc hannibal #hannibal rising #mischa lecter #hannibal lecter #hannibal meta #kinda

i am so goddamn tired of every single fantasy story being about men. i am so goddamn tired of women being side characters and love interests and set dressing and an afterthought. i am so goddamn tired of women who are powerful but feminine. women who are "dressed to kill" and they are wearing eyeliner and a dress and heels. i am so goddamn tired of women always being healers and having water magic. i am so goddamn tired of men going on adventures and dying nobly. i am so goddamn tired of never being able to find a story about women that i can fall in love with. i am so goddamn tired of all fandom being about men.

thinking about frankenstein's monster again, not anything in particular just kinda brain rotating him like he's the well liked side character of a bad shonen anime

#i'm always thinking about jekyll and hyde though i've been obsessed with those guys since i was way younger #but mister frankenstein's monster has wormed his way into my heart #i'm much too sleepy right now to finish it but when i wake up i hope to continue a video i was watching about the original novel #the concept of frankenstein's monster itself just astounds me it's so great #just everything about it #it feels like a commentary of sorts and maybe it is maybe it isn't #i thought to be thy adam but i am rather the fallen angel #victor is his creator and while not necessarily his god the monster is HIS adam #while the monster had to learn the customs of man he did not truly have to learn how to be man itself #he was created with emotion and the abilities man posses #all he ever wanted was to live and as a creature born with the passion to live amongst men as much as any other man he couldn’t #a hell within itself #and a hell that he did not deserve #a tragedy he could not help and a series of tragedies that overcame him #to not be able to be loved by man and yet be surrounded by him is a worse fate than death #he surely would have rather never lived at all #or maybe been invisible to man entirely #i have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe #if i cannot satisfy the one i will indulge the other #he is a creature of emotion cursed to a life of blind rage #in any other world would he have met a different fate? not at all #man cannot change and he cannot change how he first perceived man and how he was perceived by him #maybe im crazy though #i am crazy im a crazy person!!! #nimposting

#honestly I could write an entire essay about Black Sails and its use of monster imaginary #Black Sails forcing the viewers to acknowledge society and 'civilization' as the true villains of the series is so intriguing #the show flips the typical historic narrative surrounding pirates on its head and makes us ask 'are pirates truly monsters or are they men? #we as viewers have preconceived ideas about pirates that the series makes a point to address #ideas can squirm and crawl into our brains they can snarl and heave and become twisted disgusting things #ideas grow more terrifying and monstrous as time progresses #they shift into nightmarish beasts of our own making #things that we recoil from and that we fear #we created this monster in our heads so it must be true #right? #are pirates monsters? or have we twisted them into beasts to suit our own narrative? #an 'other' for society to lay its blame upon so it can resolve itself of its own sins #OUR sins #society needs its 'monsters' to function #but the so-called monsters in Black Sails aren't just villains #they're martyrs #men we've demonized and cast aside #so why not become the monsters that society fears? #Captain Flint is a monster of their own making #but society will never ever shoulder that blame #you reap what you sow #and all that jazz #Flint being good or bad isn't the point and honestly I'd argue that his moral character as little to do with his identity as a monster #he's a scapegoat he's a man he's a martyr he's a lover he's a god he's vicious he loves to the point of his own destruction he's a monster #he's all of those things and none of the above #I'm gonna stop now lol #Black Sails is fascinating and it makes me what to chew on glass :) #Black Sails #I'm just ranting and raving at this point #so just ignore me
