OMG I love that Beatles prompt idea! And musician James aaaaaah. You trying to kill me right? 😅 OK real talk, are the Marauders a casual band? Playing gigs in pubs for fun? Something else? Also... Singer/Guitarist/Bassist/Drummer who?? Soooo curious to hear your hypothetical opinions on this if you got some! I feel like James / Sirius could maybe have a Paul / John writing relationship LOL. I have written exactly (1) fic with musician James with the intention of going back to him! Why not with the Beatles, I say?

I'm still thinking over the part the rest of the Marauders play in this particular fic I'm going to try to do. The irony of writing musician James is that I personally HC him as having a terrible (but enthusiastic) singing voice. I'd peg Sirius as the lead singer and Remus as a strong back up vocal, though prone to losing his voice so Peter steps in a lot. That would make Sirius the singer, James lead guitarist, I like Remus on keyboard, let's throw Lily on bass, and get Peter (with some Ringo vibes) on the drums. Gosh I'm already getting obsessed with this idea.

As far as direct relations to the Beatles, I must add because I do have a strong opinion—I think people by default will want to slot James/Lily in as John/Yoko and to those people I (politely) rage in disagreement. James is a Paul, James and Lily should be Paul and Linda. As much as I love John, he had a tumultuous childhood and did some absolutely abhorrent things in his life. He also formed unhealthy attachments to people. I tend to see him leaning closer to Sirius than anyone. This slots Remus as George (quiet, reserved, clever, but not to be underestimated because he can bring his own), and Peter as Ringo because he's quietly observing, most of the time happy to be along for the ride, but can give what he gets back. I also love that Ringo was the one who came up with some of the Beatles most fun phrases like A Hard Day's Night which I could see slipping from Peter in a state of exhaustion as well.

It’s 5th year, and it’s a few weeks after Snape called Lily a Mudblood. James has been watching her (because he’s always watching her) and he knows she’s still down.

Of course he wants her to want him back, but for the first time he realizes that more even than he wants her for himself he wants her to be happy.

So he gets an idea.

He goes to Sirius with it first, of course, and Sirius is like, “fuck, yeah!” Then he goes to Peter, who’s just excited to be asked to participate, so he says yes. Then he goes to Remus.

Moony bursts out laughing and says, “Prongs, as your best mate I am obliged to tell you this is maybe your worst Lily-wooing idea yet, and that’s including the one with the Grindylow and the tickling hex. But as the bloke being offered a chance to dance back-up as James Potter serenades Lily Evans with Muggle love ballads on a table in the middle of the Great Hall…Who needs practice? Let’s do it tonight!”

So of course they do.

Because McGonagall trust(ed) Remus, she lets him borrow her radio, and he bewitches it to magnify the sound when it blasts the Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” to all of Hogwarts during dinner. Sirius Black and James Potter jump onto the Gryffindor house table dressed like Paul and John. Remus is George; Peter is Ringo. They all croon the song at the top of their lungs while performing their choreographed moves, which involve a lot of Sirius and James grinding on each other while cackling madly because that’s all the dancing either of them ever actually learned.

At the end, John/James Lennon/Potter slides all the way down the table on his knees in disgustingly ugly black leather pants and begs Lily Evans to accompany him to Hogsmeade, like she knew he would, and she says no, like he knew she would. But even though she tries to act mad, everyone in the Great Hall can see she is laughing, really genuinely laughing for the first time in almost a month, and her eyes are bubbling over with thank you.

The Beatles and the Marauders

Ok, so hear me out. I know that everyone equates the Marauders with Beatles music, and I am totally on that bandwagon. Mostly because I feel like The Beatles are The Marauders as a band. In my view they go: John=Sirius: Because they’re both hot headed and a bit aggressive, with difficult family lives. They’re also both smart asses with good hearts.

Paul=James: Because they’re both romantic and total hams. And because James is to Sirius as Paul is to John. Also, Lily is Linda if you’re curious. 

George=Remus: Because they’re both calm and level headed spectators. And because they’re both incredibly kind, but still sarcastic.

Ringo=Peter: Because they’re both silly and the least popular of the bunch. However, Ringo is obvs 100 times better than Peter and infinitely more talented.

halloween, a headcanon :)

as we know, the marauders snuck out every year on halloween, (sometimes dragging lily, or marlene, or emmeline, or mary along, as they were all close friends) and trick-or-treated in the muggle village nearby, it was only a fifteen minute broomstick ride away.

here is a summary of their costumes each year.

year one: all the marauders went as elvis presley. lily was terrified, to say the least.

year two: the addams family. try to guess who was who.

year three: witches. yes witches. they donned green skin, and wigs, and carried their broomsticks around. marlene shrieked when sirius transfigured all of her candy into spiders.

year four: james went as john lennon, sirius as paul mccartney. remus as george harrison, peter as ringo starr. lily went as yoko ono. sirius took to yelling at her every five seconds, “you’re breaking up the band, yoko!”

year five: james was a wolf. sirius, remus, and peter were three little pigs. lily was little red riding hood. emmeline was grandmother. they pushed together every muggle fairytale about wolves.

year six: sirius and james went as mcgonagall and dumbledore. remus, lily, mary & peter went as demetrius, hermia, helena & lysander.

year seven: james went as luke skywalker. sirius went as han solo. peter went as R2D2. remus went as chewbacca

bonus, four years after they graduated: james went as a corpse! sirius went as a prisoner! remus went as a lonely and depressed kid who’s best friends were all dead! peter went as a traitor! harry went as an orphan!
