sorry but. like. the thing that gets me about the drakes & the graysons and that photo of them is that there was no particular reason behind tim's parents sending that photo to dick except just to be kind to a boy who just lost his parents. like they developed that photo and probably realized they might have one of the last photos of dick & his parents ever taken and then they decided to send it over to him just so he had it. and there was no expectation of anything in return!! they didn't know bruce or care about being in his good graces. they didn't make a fuss over having it or super bother dick--they just sent him a copy of the photo and then laid the whole thing to rest. and like. think of it.
when the drakes were at the circus & janet was nervous about tim being scared and jack zeroed in on the graysons to introduce tim to so tim knew the performers were just people under the costumes, nothing to be scared of, & they were so polite about interrupting the graysons just to ask for a photo & the graysons were so kind to *them* in agreeing for a photo to add a little specialness to their little boy's first time at the circus & make him feel better about it....
and then those parents die!! the ones who were so nice to them and *their* son & they could just delete the picture and try to forget about it because it's a reminder of the incredibly traumatic time their whole family went through by witnessing a death but instead they decided to develop it and send it to dick just to be kind to a son whose parents were kind to their own.

Have you thought about a situation where CPS has almost taken Chris away? The angst potential for this AU is good
If they were ever close, Chris would have never known about it...
Also shout out to the anon who suggested I call this AU Guardianship AU!! It now has a name YIPPEEEEE
I'm gonna lore dump about it real quick bc I have ideas and if I do not say them I will forget them.
Martin is 9 years older than Chris. Their parents died when Martin was 17 and Chris was 8. Martin got emancipated and was able to take custody of Chris but like all government branches... it's a really long process that basically drags out for Chris' entire childhood. Martin graduates high school early, gets a full-ride scholarship at Duke University while maintaining various jobs and internships. Sounds like a lot? yEAH bro is TIRED. But he's willing to put in the work if it means a better future for his bro.
Of course eventually he becomes apart of the Tortuga crew and things get a lot easier for them both. CPS is still riding his ass about taking Chris with him on these cross-country expeditions but he's been dealing with them for so long at that point it's not as scary.

All cats must make a great migration daily
pursuing coziness, they follow the sun
sometimes travelling in herds, they roll across the great carpet
until there is but a sliver left
with the sunshine gone, they must huddle together for warmth

closeup/individual thingies under the cut \o/
kinda had to put them under the cut because they’re wildly different sizes and the cropping would be weird if i put them all next to each other LOL
