things I learned in my five years of bullet journaling ✍🏻
April 2022 officially marks the fifth year of my bullet journaling journey! My spreads aren’t exactly stellar or aesthetic, but it’s been great looking back at the journals I’ve kept throughout the years. I fell into the rabbit hole of the study community in the fall of 2016, and got myself to finally start in April 2017.
I unfortunately do not have a picture of all the journals I’ve used, and still have to pick and choose + blur out stuff from spreads I’ve taken pictures of, before sharing them on the internet (for privacy reasons of course) ☺️
In the meantime, I’ll be sharing some things I’ve learned throughout this journey!
Colour schemes!
Honestly, I’m quite awful with mixing and matching colour and would wear all monotone if not for my mom helping me out ;-; Having a theme palette, or an accent colour for the month usually helps to give some diversity to your journal! I’ve usually seen people align it with the seasons and events associated with the month, like the colour green for March (spring) or red for November (fall)
My theme for 2021 went like this:
January (royal/cornflower blue)
February (gray)
March (purple)
April (yellow)
May (red)
June (brown)
July (turquoise)
August (pink)
September (green)
October (navy blue)
November (orange)
December (sky blue)
“Inspiration, not imitation”
Use posts and videos on social media platforms (e.g. tumblr, instagram, pinterest, youtube, etc.) as inspiration for your journal layouts, themes, and other tips. Take what you need—you don’t need to copy everything! You can incorporate other people’s style into your own journal and use it to come up with creative ideas of your own! This was one of the biggest mistakes I made when I was starting out. I tried to copy exactly what other people were doing, even to go as far as buying what they had to get the “same result”. I’ll elaborate on this further in the next point...
Do what works for you!
Do you create collages? Scrapbook? Do you love to sketch? paint? Write poetry? stories? songs? your travels? Keep track of your habits? movies/shows you’ve watched? books you’ve read? I’m fully aware I sound like a Spotify ad, but really, your journal can have it all! Like what I said in the previous point, I wasn’t making the bullet journal I was keeping my own. The art of journaling empowered me to unleash my creative freedom, but I failed to realize that until I started implementing things I loved. As @tbhstudying has repeatedly mentioned in her videos, a bullet journal is basically a “glorified to-do list”.
My bullet journal is a planner, diary, scrapbook all in one! It contains tasks, important events, reminders, notes, entries, pictures, tickets, receipts, favourite songs, quotes, poems... you name it!
“My journal is my trusted best friend”
I’ve been able to build a relationship, so to speak, with my yearly journals. I get to spend 365/366 days with each one. Like a friend, my journal gets to know me, or rather that version of me for that year. Its blank pages provide a safe haven for me to express myself, my thoughts, and the words I can’t express to people at times. It shares my both my happy and sad memories. My journal even gets to know people in my laugh when I write about them and when I let others doodle/write in it! It also stores our precious memories in its back pocket, and seals its lips shut when I put the elastic back on.  Our journey together ends once the year is over. But just like an old friend who you may keep in touch with, my previous journals and I reconnect once again when I take it out of the stationery bin to open it up and read its pages.
“Where do you get your stuff from?”
Journals: muji (spiral dot-grid a5 with the clear cover, no elastic; 15-month undated monthly/weekly journal) amazon (peter pauper black a5 essentials grid journal with back pocket)
Washi Tape: muji, staples, michaels, oomomo, walmart/canadian superstore (double-sided tape)
Supplies: 0.5 mechanical pencil, 0.38 & 0.5 muji gel pens, zebra mildliners, crayola supertips, pentel fude touch sign pen, tombow dual brush pen, watercolour pencils
Pictures: paint samples from the hardware store, cut-outs from magazines, travel brochures, etc.. I only print pictures when I really need to (I used to print every month, but I use so much coloured ink, it’s quite a waste)
Final Thoughts:
To the person reading this awfully long post, thank you so much for sticking around til the end. My sincere apologies for writing this essay ;-;
I hope I was able to inspire you to start your bullet journaling journey too, just as how many in the study community helped me. Let me know how it goes!

Hey guys!  In honor of us reaching six-hundred subscribers, I feel the need to do a masterpost and share some advice I’ve learned here in the studyblr community.  Many people use bullet journals to keep them on task and help them plan out all of the important things in their lives.
There can be a large difference between a bullet journal and a planner depending on who you ask, as the choice is an extremely personal one.  I personally use it as solely a bullet journal, without the structure and rigidity of a preset planner. Others prefer to use them like half-planners or scrapbooks filled with memories, so they can look back on how far they’ve come!  So, let’s get to what constitutes a bullet journal.
You will need:
A journal/notebook/diary/a bookish thing you write in
A pen
Those are the only things you truly need to get started with a bullet journal.  All of the pictures in the Studyblr community can serve as motivation for you, but only the necessities are actually required.  However, if you want to take a look at some of the popular stationery used in the community, here’s a list:
Highlighters
Zebra Mildliners
Stabilo Boss Highlighters
Uni Propus Window
Muji Highlighters
Pens
Pilot G-2 07
Staedtler Triplus Fineliners
Muji Gel Pen 0.38mm
Uniball Signo 207
Zebra Sarasa
Pilot Juice
Journals
Leuchtterm 1917
Moleskine
Those are only a few of the popular items that can found floating in the community, but they add a certain type of flair to your journal in whichever way you use them.  Now, I’ll tell you some of the most common startup pages, so that you can familiarize yourself and see which one of these you want to try out.
Setup Pages
Table of Contents; not absolutely mandatory, but highly recommended so you don’t lose your pages and can easily search for things
Monthly Spread/Year at a Glance; this is up to the individual person, as peoples’  schedules vary immensely, but you can choose how you want to see your schedule, whether it be in weeks, months, the entire year, or even days
Key; if you’re going to be using certain colors to correspond with certain events or things, you may want to create a key so that you can remember which color was which
Trackers/Ideas/Etc.; this is your journal, so make it how you want!  At the end, I’ll include a list of bullet journal ideas
So, these are some of the things you can do to get your bullet journal started!  Now, I want you to enjoy a list of ideas and resources that will help you along the way. :) Good luck!

7 DIY Arts and Crafts Projects Using Old Stickers When I was in high school I loved buying giant wall stickers to decorate my room. Because of that, I ended up having more stickers that I want or need. I tried looking for different ways on how I can put them to good use instead of disposing them to the nearest bin. After browsing through different blogs and videos, I finally found a way on how to use them. On one of the articles that I read, it was mentioned that wall stickers can be used in different arts and crafts projects. Here are some of the ideas that I really liked (most of them are still on my to-do list): 1. DIY planners and notebooks Planners can be really expensive if you buy them as the new year approaches. During this time of the year, you have to worry about other gifts to distribute to family and friends during the holidays. Since I'm not always busy, I can start making DIY planners and notebooks that I can give away during special occasions. Using big stickers, cardboard, and unused coloured papers. You can use big stickers (wrapped over cardboards) as the covers of the planner. Then cut smaller ones into different shapes and patterns to decorate the covers and leaves of the notebook or planner.
Tumblr media
2. DIY Laptop and phone designs
If you have any stickers of your favourite characters, you can use them to decorate your laptop and other gadgets. This works best for two-tone stickers since these kinds are easier to cut and redecorate to fit your style and preference. For phones, you can decorate clear and single colour phone protectors and cases to avoid ruining the original design of your phone. Depending on the size of your gadgets, you can cut big and small patterns that you can use alternately to beautify your gadgets. 3. Personalised travel tags Show your creativity when you travel by creating personalised travel tags for your luggage and backpacks. For this project, you can recycle and redecorate old tags or create from other materials available at home. You decorate plain rubber ones that are available in stationery stores or create a new one using different kinds of ribbons. If you choose to go with ribbons, it’s best to use iron-on stickers instead of plain stickers. This way, you won't have to use additional adhesives and wrappers to make the tags sturdy.
4. DIY Bookmarks
Upcycle your stickers by making items that you can use daily or give away to your friends during special occasions. For your book-loving friends, you can create a variety of DIY bookmarks using your old stickers and some recyclable materials that you can find at home.
Make new bookmarks using cardboard papers and colourful paper clips to make adorable bookmarks that pop on top of the book. You can also attach magnetic sheets to the stickers to make magnetic (clip-on) bookmarks. If you decided to go with this option, you can also use this to decorate your refrigerator and other metal surfaces at home.
5.  Jar Designs
Be inspired to save for your travel allowance by adding stickers of your dream destinations on your travel jar. You can also add travel quotes and other messages that can motivate you to save. If you have children at home, you can use cute stickers to help them make dream jars that they can display in their rooms.
You can use the same ideas to decorate other jars for ingredients, seasonings, and other small objects that you can store in jars. Aside from stickers, you can also use decals and DIY printable stickers.
Tumblr media
6. Personalised Storage boxes
Personalize your storage boxes using different kinds of stickers. if you use storage boxes for your clothes, you can use the free stickers from the shirts and jeans you buy. They may not look as interesting as customised or store-bought stickers, but you can definitely form them into unique and interesting designs.
Depending on the size of the stickers you have, you cut them into unique shapes and symbols. Make cars, aeroplanes, butterflies, flowers, and other things that would portray your personality (or that of the owner of the box). If you have big sheets of stickers, cut them into big and small letters to form names and other kinds of labels for your box.
7. Scrapbooking/Journaling
Stickers are also great in decorating scrapbooks and journals. They save you from the hassle of using messy adhesives and from using too many materials when decorating. Compared to boards and papers, it is much easier to remove and replace stickers on your journals if you want to change the designs you made before.
You may use stickers to personalise the covers of your journals. Immortalise those precious memories by decorating some pages with stickers that remind you of your adventures in different places or your favourite memories and achievements during special events.
These are just a few of the examples that I found on DIY projects for arts and crafts. I hope this list will be useful for you, especially when you are planning on starting DIY projects.
