Top 5 Couple Fights
Oooooooh this is fun! Thank you for a relatively easy category because so often the fights in these shows are unearned and it is very frustrating. I'm still limiting myself to 2023!
Wen and Alan, Moonlight Chicken
Tumblr media
This fight felt real, it felt lived in, and it felt heartbreaking even though we only saw some of it. These two men love each other, but love isn't enough to keep them together, and that realization is as heartbreaking as the fight itself.
My Personal Weatherman
Tumblr media
I am obsessed with the fights in My Personal Weatherman because the characters often don't know they're in one, or are in two different fights at the same time. This is all tied to how much I love how well the miscommunication is done in this show. These fights are legible based on what we know about these characters and what they've seen, even when they're completely unnecessary, and I adore that. Of course the best one is the ending fight and not just because Segasaki ties up Yo's wrists in his shirt.
Jack O'Frost
Tumblr media
[Not enough gifs of this actual fight and I need to finish this list so this is what you get]. The fight at the very start of this show escalated so quickly, at first I wasn't sure about it even while I appreciated the performances and the intimate way it was shot. But when we get the backstory and we finally understand how much has been withheld and said vs. not said between them, and where their anxieties were rooted and the source of these big feelings, this fight makes so much more sense. This is a show that really benefits from being watched more than once.
La Pluie
Tumblr media
[for some reason tumblr is giving me this link to Shan's blog rather than @liyazaki so tagging you, friend!]
Patts was pushed and pushed and pushed, and he lashed out in his insecurity, and when he asked for reassurance (this lineeee) Saengtai refused to give it to him and instead lashed out out of his own insecurity. This was a painful fight that was fully earned; all of the characters and their choices were legible even as they were infuriating. And it led to a critical awakening of Saengtai who was so caught up in his own sad boy narrative he hadn't realized how much he was hurting everyone around him.
My Beautiful Man S2
Tumblr media
Kiyoi and Hira's communication issues continuing past S1 is very believable. I said elsewhere that Hira's work on his self-worth is more like a spiral than a straight line and that's very relatable and realistic. Kiyoi being hurt by Hira not valuing Kiyoi's feelings was such an important lesson for Hira to get more than once. Again, so earned, and resulted in the characters self-reflecting and moving a little closer to whatever a healthy relationship means for these two lol
Laws of Attraction
Tumblr media
How much do I Love Tinn seeing right through Charn and Charn being big mad at him for Perceiving him so well? All of their fights are so good because they're about boundaries and mutual respect at their core, and they actually listen to one another and are based on how well they know one another (rather than what so often happens, when the characters seem to forget who the person they're in love with actually is). This barely counts as fight but I love it and it's my list so it stays.
Bonus entry that's only for me (shh stop counting the above):
Mr. Cinderella S2
Tumblr media
Nobody but me and like 2 other people watched this show, but I'm actually obsessed with the couple fight in Mr. Cinderella s2 so thank you for the chance to rant about it on main some more. I need to start by saying: this plot is ridiculous and the ending sucks. But within this show, Dung and Khoa have an established relationship that has been tested in S1 and is being tested harder in S2, and to a point, they actually stand together and weather the storm, and it was rewarding to watch. And then slowly everything happening ("everything" here being an ABSURD amount of melodrama) starts to wear on Khoa, who sees himself as the one solely responsible for everything, and he unlearns some of what he learned in s1, he stops relying on Dung as his support, stops telling Dung what's going on because he doesn't want to burden him, and stops trusting Dung's word about what is happening. And so, when the jealousy plot hits, it's actually believable that Dung would be mad at Khoa, not for cheating, but for not respecting Dung as a partner in their relationship. It's well done, I wish so much that it were in a better show so that I could actually recommend anyone watching (I don't). I've seen this trope (assumed cheating) done so badly and so unearned in so many shows, this was so refreshing.
Extra bonus: Best couple fight scene of all time?
Gameboys S2
Tumblr media
[I give up on gifs of this scene; have them upset for other reasons instead!]
What I love about the way they fight in this show is that, beyond it being earned etc. etc., the dialogue is so raw. They repeat themselves, they just yell over one another, they get rude, they try saying something to de-escalate and it gets worse instead. This is not a carefully crafted speech, or a single perfectly delivered devastating line; this is raw emotion. I recognize this fight, I've been in this fight, this is what I sound like when I fight lol And we see them really fight at least twice, and the way they fight in ep8 has changed as a result of the earlier fight is also SO good.

If worked for the team who made Avatar TloK. How would you rewrite TloK?
To be completely honest, rewriting tlok wouldn't fix all it's issues. Tlok just needed to have longer seasons, an actually established amount of seasons so they weren't pressured to make every single season a complete story for fear of not getting more time.
But let's say, hypothetically that I murdered mr Crabs or whoever is in charge of Nickelodeon and removed any studio meddling from the show.
My perfect world would include:
More filler episodes that focus on a singular character. Think Sokka's Master or the Painted Lady. The Krew are all fascinating characters with a lot of potential, however, due to the runtime of the show, their storylines are rushed... or completely nonexistent. Give me more details of Mako and Bolin's childhood. Show me emore of Asami struggling with her father's arrest.
I'd try to cut down on the westernisation of the show. I can see why these foreign aspects slipped in, since the closer the Avatarverse inches to our modern times, the more blurred the lines become. At least to my whiteass. I'd try to lean towards silkpunk, rather than the much more west based steampunk. It would be a fascinating endeavour to imagine what a world with mostly eastern influences would look like.
I'd make Vaatu the overarching villain/final boss of the story... it would require a bit of moving around of the timeline but I think I'd structure it as: Red Lotus> Kuvira> Amon> Vaatu. However I'd blur the timeline more. Make Amon a background threat in the eariler seasons, only for him to rise in popularity and power after people see what benders like Kuvira are capable of, for example.
This would also allow for certain villains to become redeemed or at least helpful in some way, later on. Mayhaps Amon and Kuvira team with the Krew to defeat Vaatu in some way.
Also, instead of destroying Vaatu completely, I'm leaning towards Korra absorbing him, in a way. Yes Vaatu is a dark spirit, but 'darker' urges are necessary for humans' survival and happiness. Korra embodies the duality of man very well. I think it would be a fascinating idea to see the Avatar become the embodiment of both light and darkness.
In general, making Vaatu and Raava more morally ambiguous, rather than the simple good spirit/bad spirit thing they had in the og show would be a fascinating concept.
I'd do my best to pull away from the show's original centerist narrative. Have Korra learn from the villains and make active changes to the world, showing her growth as an Avatar and person. Perhaps she's reluctant to see the Red Lotus' point of view at the beginning of the show, but sympathises with Amon at the tail end of the story.
Make the entire Krew queer. And talk about queerness more, in general. Have the characters have open conversations about queerness in their respective enviornments and cultures. Tlok already has a very queer undertone to it, even before korrasami became canon, but touching on this subject more overtly would provide great opportunity for characterisation and worldbuilding.
Have the story span several years. Watch the Krew grow up. Tlok works very well as a coming of age story even in its original form. Have Vaatu and his darkness and chaos symbolise the uncharted waters of maturity at the end of teenagedom. This especially works if Korra merges or accepts him like i suggested.
There... that's some basics. I think that most of my criticisms of the show could mostly be solved if the studio wasn't being a bitch but well. We can't have nice things, can we?
I took a while to answer this ask because it was genuinely such an interesting, but overwhelming question.
Also now I have wayy too many ideas about a potential tlok rewrite, so feel free to ask me about that if you want to hear me ramble.

Helluva Boss: A Show For "Mature" Audiences That Isn't Very Mature
Something that's very funny to me is how Helluva Boss is an adult show, meaning that its supposed to be mature, and more mature than a kids show. However, the show really isn't that mature when you really think about it; sure, it's supposed to be viewed for mature audiences, and It by no means is for kids at all but...HB is really just the superficial version of mature. The show constantly crams in gore, swears and sex jokes all the damn time as a way to just appear edgy. It's not mature as in "it has mature and deep messages and themes" its the superficial version of mature, the type of mature that's just "let's shove in a bunch of swears and sex jokes into this show so people can KNOW its for adults!".
The show feels like its trying so damn hard to be edgy and crams swears and sex jokes into its dialogue because its an "adult" show. 70% of the dialogue in this show is awful because of the amount times it feels the need to shove in swears and sex jokes into every single line the characters say. It feels like the show is just..trying to be edgy with no substance to it. The only really mature theme HB has is Stolas's sexual desires for Blitz...but now its just completely dropped as Stolitz is suppoused to be seen as a healthy reletionship for some reason.
A majority of the villains are very one-dimensional Saturday morning cartoon villains too. HB feels like a show that's just overly obsessed with being edgy so it can come across as "mature". And while you can technically say that HB is mature as the show isn't exactly for kids and is aimed towards adults, again, its only the superficial version of mature, the show isn't really that mature in terms of its actual writing.
But here's the REAL kicker here; the shows I primarily enjoy watching are kids shows on Disney Channel, and...well, lets take a look at the themes and messages of these shows aimed towards kids that I've seen, shall we?
Gravity Falls: Tells a story about growing up, and how, while growing up may seem hard, you don't have to grow up alone, and that even when you grow up, that doesn't mean you have to let go
Amphibia: Tells a story about three girls who are all heavily flawed people in a toxic friendship. Ends with a message about change and how while it may be hard, sometimes; things change, and you need to accept that.
The Owl House: Tells a story about a girl who was ostracized for her whole life who was able to make real connections with others and find a place where she truely belongs.
Ducktales: Has an old man rediscover the value of family after pushing away his loved ones after losing his niece
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Has an episode where the main message is that you should stand up for your community, and how you can make your voice be heard no matter what.
The Ghost and Molly Mcgee (SPOILERS FOR THE FINALE): Final episode has a beautiful and mature message about how you should spend your life to the fullest, take risks and not be afraid or play it safe, and has a character go and spend his life to the fullest when he becomes human again
These "kids shows" have more mature and thoughtful messages and themes as well as better writing than this "adult" show. Helluva Boss has me groaning and getting frustrated at all the bad writing and wasted potential in its second season. Meanwhile, Amphibia's second season almost gets me to cry not once, but twice. These shows have more compelling and nuanced characters than HB, they don't constantly try to coddle them and absolve them of their mistakes, rather for some of them, they make the characters actually grow as people, something HB has NOT done at all.
Helluva Boss is an adult show, yet these kids' shows not only have more nuanced characters than it, but they are also unironically more mature than HB despite being shows targeted towards a younger audience. Its extremely funny to me how Viv said that HB is "Bojack Horseman with demons" when HB is less mature than kids' shows that aired on the Disney Channel.
Helluva Boss isn't a mature show, it's just an overly edgy one.

Hey guys, I've been thinking about making this post for a long time and I think its finally time I do so. After realizing that some of my last work was done over a year ago, I don't think I can really ignore it anymore. While I haven't quite thrown in the towel on this quite yet, it's pretty evident to me and I'm sure to everyone who still follows this blog that my fervor for the project has drastically decreased. And has been kind of dead for a while. The comic has not been a priority to me, or posting online much at all actually. I did some soul searching and found that I'd started relying on outside approval for my art instead of doing art for the sake of wanting to tell a story and express myself throughout my work. I have limited energy and depression and sometimes it feels like i get such little progress done even though it takes all of my energy. While I'm trying to go to the gym more and build better habits my energy levels and mood still have a lot to be desired, and I'd rather use the limited energy I have to work on something I'm more passionate about.
I've been trying to grow my skills and absorb more stories and I've moved around a lot and started to listen to what I really felt, and I found that a lot of the art I want to focus on deals with heavier and more mature topics. I do love this story, and all of the characters and I feel like I could make a really clever subversion of what is expected from an Underfell comic. But I feel like in these uncertain times with the world and with all of the stuff going on right now, I'd like to use my energy to work on stories that hit closer to the things that I feel are important. So that's why I've not been posting much.
I'm working on a book, and I've actually got quite a lot of progress done on it, but because of all the horror stories online about people stealing author's original works, I'm kind of holding off on publishing any chapters before I can copyright the first draft of the novel. So my online activity will still be pretty scarce for a bit, though I'll still post occasionally on my @cosmicpixel01 account. I'll try better to not be so radio silent though lol. Even if that means I'll post something boring about my dog or books I'm reading just so everyone knows I'm still alive.
I don't want to call it quits on the story. But I also feel like you guys have been kept waiting to see what happens for a really long time, and that makes me feel so guilty. I will try to finish up the pages I have in the works, and I'm probably going to switch to a different format that is some drawings, some writing to finish the story. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to finish it the way I intended for you guys, even with all of the support and kind words and even the fanart that I've kept in a folder on my desktop. I am letting a lot of you down, but I feel like the radio silence is probably more irresponsible than just going out and saying something. And I'm sorry I've kept you all waiting for a not-so-happy update on the blog.
I hope that some of you will continue to follow me for some of my other exploits and see whatever other things I have going on, but I understand that you all followed me for Undertale so I don't want you to feel any sort of guilt if you decide not to. I'm just happy you all supported me for so long.
I'll try to work on this blog again soon, and if anyone has any questions, my asks are open, though I'll probably keep the asks private. Until then I hope everyone stays safe out there. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
-Avery

Hi frieeeend! Glad to be one of ur first requests ^^
I was wondering if you could do some TFP Ratchet x female reader 🫣 some smut OR some angsty fluff where Ratchet feels insecure about his age and vitality and y/n (suggestively his s/o) comforts him :)) whatever u choose
Take ur time! ❤️
Whew, never have I ever written so much so quickly (in a good way). I guess I got carried away a bit. Hope you like it :3
*Anything in italics is either a sound effect or a character’s inner thoughts*
Young At Spark
TFP Ratchet x Reader
Warnings: Suggestive
Word Count: 2000+ (Holy Sh*t)
It had been a relatively quiet day in the Autobot base for you. Jack, Miko, and Raph were at school taking their final exams, and the autobots were out on an extensive energon scouting mission somewhere in the rural wilderness of Serbia. You would’ve found a trip to Europe to be a fun outing, but couldn’t bear the thought of leaving your favorite medic alone. As you returned from a brief walk around the halls of the base, a loud *clang* followed by a frustrated and exasperated shout could be heard from the main room. He sounds actually pissed off, you thought to yourself before briskly making your way to the main room. You turned to see Ratchet picking up various shattered metal pieces from the floor, all the while muttering incoherent profanities and curses.
“Ratchet? Is everything okay?” you asked softly, although the concern was easy to glean from your tone. The medic was clearly surprised by your sudden appearance and seemed a bit startled as his blue optics locked onto you. “Oh, (Y/N)... E-everything is fine. I just… was clumsy and dropped the device I was trying to adjust. I um, I’m sorry if I may have startled you.” In fact, everything was indeed not fine with Ratchet, as that morning his thoughts had gotten away from him and locked onto you, and not in the way he usually enjoys.
I can’t upset (Y/N) with my frivolous doubts. Albeit it will be difficult as her mental prowess is always… rather intuitive, the aging medic tried to silence his thoughts and re-focused on (Y/N). Ratchet cleared his throat as he noticed you had already conjured up a broom, “No need for that, I shall clean up my own mess.” You paused at the increasingly odd behavior of the normally composed medic, and you began to grow suspicious of why he seemed to be hiding something from you.
You two had been close for some time, albeit when you first met the resident Autobot medic it wasn’t a great first meeting. With Ratchet insisting the base was getting far too crowded. You quickly won him over though. Unlike the kids, you were far more mature and patient, and you didn’t actively break his tools or go off placing yourself in unnecessary danger, like a certain someone with pink puffball hair… Another admirable quality you possessed was your sharp mind, and your ability to quickly grasp new concepts and actually be interested in things like science.
The first time Ratchet really noticed you was when he was struggling to decipher an unfamiliar set of code which had come into their possession regarding imperative intel. Despite applying the standard techniques to decipher the code, there was some sort of new trick that had been embedded in the code. As (Y/N) had watched the medic continuously failed to succeed, you had been watching closely, and had noticed the answer didn’t lie in breaking the code through conventional means, rather through a visual pattern. Your sharp eye and wit had spotted a pattern of certain colors and symbols, and after explaining this to Ratchet, the two of you were able to team up and crack the code.
“Ratchet… What’s actually going on? You seem upset at more than accidentally breaking something. You know you can tell me anything, right?” You looked up at him, hoping the medic would let you help him. Primus, she’s onto me, Ratchet quickly finished picking up the broken mess on the floor, before turning towards (Y/N). “I appreciate your concern for me, I do, but I insist it was just a fleeting moment of frustration. Nothing more.” Before you could open your mouth to say anything else, the comms system flashed and Optimus Prime’s voice sounded over the audio “Ratchet, we require your presence immediately. We are taking Decepticon-fire and Arcee is down!”
His azure optics widened in surprise before turning to you. “I’ll man the groundbridge. …Be careful, otherwise I may throw a wrench at you” you had an ever-so-slight smile on your face, but your heart was still heavy as no one could ever foresee when things would go wrong. “I promise to return unharmed” Ratchet said softly, hoping that you wouldn’t fret too much over him, before powering up the groundbridge and speeding through in his alt-mode.
As Ratchet sped through the swirling vortex of green and blue energy, his thoughts from earlier resurfaced. He had been replaying the moment you had first met, the first time you had touched servos/hands, the moments where he would place you on his shoulder as you both reviewed data and worked on projects.
The memory that was the source of his inner turmoil was the first time you kissed. You had shifted your weight on his shoulder and just planted one right on his lips. He could remember the rush of heat to his entire frame, something he had not experienced since his youth back on Cybertron, and that was a very long time ago. It wasn’t long after that you two had been intimate with one another, albeit it took a lot of learning on his part since you were both an organic and far smaller than him. The size difference didn’t bother him much, as he was very VERY creative. You were so vigorous, energetic, passionate, and youthful…. And youth had long since surpassed Ratchet.
He should be above silly things such as anxiety or doubt, but now he felt all of his confidence melt away as the thought of such a stunning and lively being as yourself, being held back by an old rust bucket with one pede in the well of Allsparks. The very idea of him disappointing you felt equivalent to losing a patient. Spark-crushing. Perhaps it was wrong of him to think some old bot like him could ever give you what you truly deserved from a partner. …*PEW PEW* The resounding ringing of blaster fire pulled the medic out of his anxious self-pitying stupor, and into a battlefield before him.
Ratchet had only just exited the groundbridge, but he could already make out his fellow Autobots as they duked it out with various Decepticons and Vehicons. He had to focus, as he was here as a medic not a sniveling idiot. As his optics scanned the field for the injured Arcee, he saw the femme leaning against a large boulder, pinned down as she took cover from Vehicon blaster-fire.
His white and scarlet armor glinted in the light of the sun, as he quickly made his way through the battlefield, being trailed by Optimus and Bumblebee as they provided coverfire. Ratchet was able to make it to Arcee, quickly scanning her to assess her injuries. “I’m fine, Doc. Just a few scratches that’s all,” the two-wheeler calmly stated. “Ep-ep! I’m the medic and I will be the one to diagnose y–” Ratchet was interrupted by the sound of crackling electricity from behind. “Nice of you to join the party, Ratchet!” Ugh, not Knockout of all bots… Ratchet thought, as he saw the ever-polished and buffed Decepticon standing a short distance from him. “Knockout, I am in no mood to deal with your incessant posturing…” Ratchet drew his blasters as he glared at Knockout. “Well they do say bots get crankier as they age, huh? Perhaps you’re better suited as a doorstop at your age?” the Decepticon medic cackled.
Ratchet felt his energon boil and before anyone could realize, he charged at Knockout, optics wide with fury, “You’ll look like a doorstop once I’m through with you!!!” Knockout was taken aback by the sudden vigor and frenzied rage from the Autobot medic, genuinely shocked as to what had gotten into him. “PRIMUS I didn’t know you could move that fast!” Knockout ordered the surrounding Vehicons to begin firing at Ratchet, but was interrupted by opposing fire from Optimus, Bulkhead, and Bumblebee. Before Ratchet could reach him, Knockout quickly transformed and retreated along with the remaining Vehicons.
Ratchet had no choice but to stop his charge, but his rage was not so easily quelled. He was boiling over with anger, HOW DARE HE INSULT ME LIKE THAT? HOW DARE HE ASSUME– Ratchet’s angry thoughts were cut short by the sensation of a large servo on his shoulder, and Optimus’s voice. “Old friend, what has gotten into you? Why would you abandon your patient and charge after Knockout?” Prime’s face was full of concern for his long-time friend and confidant as this was out of character. The medic’s rage began to subside, as he realized what a fool he had made of himself. “M-my apologies Optimus, I don’t know what came over me.” Ratchet immediately went back over to Arcee and helped her onto her pedes, ashamed at his actions.
Back at base, (Y/N) powered up the groundbridge after receiving the call from Optimus. You were still worried about Ratchet, as you had been struggling to think of what on earth he was so upset about. As the portal opened, the Autobots began to make their way through, including Ratchet who was assisting an annoyed Arcee into the base.
As you began to acknowledge everyone’s return, Bulkhead suddenly approached Ratchet, “What the scrap was that about?!” Ratchet’s optics briefly darted towards the wrecker, but as in usual fashion, the medic turned away and scoffed at the question, “Think nothing of it. Just stress from being engaged in combat.” Despite being assisted by Ratchet, Arcee piped in with her concerns “Bulkhead has a point, Ratchet. You lost it at whatever Knockout said to you. What gives?”
Growing increasingly frustrated with the sudden interrogation, Ratchet snaps his helm around “I’ve already told you that it was inconsequential. Now let me proceed with scanning you for injuries and move on!” The tension in the room could’ve been cut with a knife as the rest of the group falls silent, and no one presses the matter further. Standing at the controls, you were taken aback by Ratchet’s behavior, as this was severely out of character for your normally patient, if a bit sassy-medic. But you remained silent as you watched Arcee begrudgingly allow Ratchet to assess her.
It wasn’t long before Arcee returned to the main area of the base, being cleared of any injuries by Ratchet, but you noticied that he had yet to reappear. Normally the only other area on base you could find Ratchet would be in one of the back storerooms which usually housed various supplies. You quietly made your way through the halls, the faint sound of something falling making you hone in on one particular room. The motion-sensors on the door allowed you entry into the storeroom, and you quickly spotted Ratchet with his back turned against one of the shelves. It felt as if you were walking on glass as you approached him, “...Ratchet? You’re really starting to worry me. Can you please, please… tell me what is wrong?”
“...I’m sorry, (Y/N) for worrying you. That is the last thing I would want to do to you” Ratchet replied, but his back remained turned away from you. You approached him and closed the door behind you. Stepping closer, you wrapped your arms around his heel in a hug, hoping your touch would comfort him “I know. But Ratchet…. You are hurting yourself by holding in.. whatever it is that’s making you act this way. We’ve been through too much for you to shut yourself off from me.” A heavy sigh escaped from the medic’s vents and he shifted his frame to look at you.
As you briefly stepped back, he knelt down to move his faceplate closer to your level, “You deserve to know of course… You deserve better. …Perhaps if I was in a different field of medical training, I would be better suited to explain myself, so I shall try my best.” He took a deep breath, clearly struggling “I’ve been concerned that I may not be the mech best suited for you.”
You stood before him frozen as you struggle to process his words, “...Come again?” Ratchet felt as if someone were twisting a blade in his gut, but continued, “I meant that you deserve the best. You are so kind and full of life and vigor, and I am perhaps too old to provide you with what a younger mech could.” He can’t bear to meet your gaze any longer, and turns his face away from you in shame. He is shocked to feel a brief sting on his helm, looking back to see you holding a small wrench in your hands. “Hopefully that will knock some sense back into you” your eyes were welling-up with tears as you dropped the wrench.
“You really think your age would change how I feel for you? You think I would care what anyone, bot or con or human has to say about it?” You approach Ratchet and gently place your hands on his cheeks, staring deeply into his optics, “Ratchet, you are the only man for me. So what if you’re mature and full of experience? You’re my one and only and don’t ever think otherwise.” You lean in and plant a deep and sweet kiss against his cool lips.
It felt like time stood still as he looked at your beautiful face. Your warm lips were like fireworks as you pressed them to his, How can she be this perfect? How do I deserve her? Ratchet’s mind swirled as you pulled away from him, feeling a gentle brush as he swiped a tear from your eye with a servo, “(Y/N), please forgive me for putting you through such torment. I… I was insecure about many things. I still wonder if I am truly capable of fulfilling all of your needs.”
You stepped forward and kissed him again, albeit with a little more heat. You raised an eyebrow as you pulled away, a devilish grin playing on your lips, “You have always fulfilled my every need. You could always test how well you’re able to please me…?” The look in your eyes and tone in your voice was easy for the medic to decipher. He felt his frame heat up and his engine rev, “...I suppose I can run a few… tests to see the results.” He gave you a half-cocked smirk before gently scooping you into his servo and setting you on one of the upper shelves, before showering your neck and collarbone in sensual kisses.
Primus, hopefully no unlucky soul needed any supplies from that room…

The First Years Crushing on Their Upperclassman (PT 2)
And here is Part 2! Im very tired. I only jave graphics for the first years as i write this so I'll be slowly rolling out everyone. I guess I can do them on case by case? Anyway!! Click here for the first Part.
Warnings: Ortho is in this lineup. I don't want to hear any complaining about it.
Characters: Epel, Ortho, Sebek
PLEASE REBLOG! All of this is available to you for free and the most I ask of you all is to reblog rather than just liking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My boy Epel will put on a performance for his senpai. Not the kind of performance that Rook suggested, but instead the machismo performance that really would make Vil seethe with shame. Yes, our little apple dumplin decides to go to his magift team for advice on how to court you. He met you in the infirmary since you get an extra credit for working there. Once, he came in busted up and bruised like the Courtland apple he is. You scolded him relentlessly as you patched him up. What if Vil found out? The Housewarden would eat your heart if he found out his little Lady was visibly injured. He already forced you to use special salves on all Pome students to prevent scarring. Really, that man kept you busy.
But Epel wasn't hearing all that. He was sitting there leaning into your touch and swooning. You're so gentle when you tended to his scars that it felt nostalgic. Since he was surrounded by older people growing up, Epel probably unconsciously developed his crush on you based on how nurturing you were with him.
Then he starts acting unwise.
This lil macintosh goes out of his way to injure himself. He plays rougher, fights more, and exhausts himself all just to see you. Then, he hobbles into your infirmary, expecting you to take care of him. Part of him also enjoys being treated like a regular guy for once, especially when you lecture him. His peers also have to sit through it and that's what makes him happy. But during one of their big games, Epel actually does hurt himself. Like, on accident. He's no longer thinking about being able to spend a few hours with you. Now he's thinking about how much he fucked up. He really fucked up.
You do your best and thankfully it's just a sprain, but Epel's being a real Granny Smith at the moment. "Clearly this was a sign that you were doing something you had no business doing," you pull up a chair and sit at his bedside.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"It means that you've been practically living here in the infirmary and I've yet to understand why."
"I guess I'm just reckless?"
"And yet you never seem to need to be here any other time. You're not Ace. You're certainly not Deuce. So, what's the deal here?" When you finally start grilling him, he starts to break. Epel didn't think this through and he hadn't considered the possibility that you'd find out the pattern.
"I...I think I like being here..." he dares to look at you. Rather than anger or irritation, you're patient and most certainly concerned. "Because...Because you're here...if it wasn't during magift, it'd be during gym. Or potions. Or whenever you're here! You're always so nice to me and I feel...like a regular guy around you." Epel grips the sheets as the words tumble from his lips like a fountain. He couldn't stop it either. His stomach turned as he was on the verge of tears.
"Oh...Epel...honey, you don't have to hurt yourself just to see me...I won't turn you away if you visit," you caress his cheek. "I promise." When he looks up at you, your cheeks flush. Epel was certainly cute, but sometimes he seemed a lot more mature than one would expect. Now, you're starting to feel shy. Something in your dynamic shifts as he starts to accept your confession. He grins and presses his forehead against yours.
"Senpai, you better promise to let me come by any time I want. No questions asked." Ah, shit. You're gonna regret this, won't you?
Ortho’s crush on his senpai could first be mistaken for something else. You're Idia's classmate and by some miracle, he lets you into his very limited bubble. Despite being his opposite, you admittedly have great taste in everything...only because you have a lot of common interests. So one day he invites you to his dorm (pre OB) and you meet his adorable little cupcake of a brother. Ortho was already a person to you. Idia had always said "my brother this and my brother that" so you already imagined a shorter fireball running around campus somewhere.
"This is my little brother..." Idia, not one for proper introductions, just turns to start up the game you came to play. And to your surprise, both you and Ortho are a little irked by that. Still, you smile at him.
"Hey! I'm glad to finally meet you. Idia loves to talk about you, but he didn't say you'd be insanely cute!" And that flipped a switch in him. Maybe it was the compliment or maybe it was his inquisitive nature but he wanted to see you again and again.
And he always makes sure that he's around when you're visiting. Ortho justifies that he merely wants to see how you managed to get Idia to allow you in his personal space. But like...Ortho also demands your attention more than Idia does. He hugs your arms and laughs at your jokes and constantly offers to help you with your homework. You think it's sweet until he becomes an official student.
Post OB, Ortho’s giving into his full school experience. One of which is having a crush. And then it starts to click with him. He likes you. A LOT. You let Ortho hang out with you more sans Idia and...the boy has rizz. Oh sweet seven, he's such a good flirt.
"Senpai, you look great today. When you wear blue, we start to match!"
"Heheh when you make that face, I can't help but tease you!"
"I found these compatability quizzes online and they seem to think we're a perfect match!"
Unlike the others, he doesn't have a skill issue. And I'm not saying that bc I'm crushing. Er, anyways.
It comes to a head when he takes his mask off. You'd always been curious and now you got to see a full set of pointy teeth. And for some reason, you're a little afraid. When he brushes his artificial tongue over a few of them, a shiver runs down your spine. What's worse is that his golden eyes pinned you right where you were. Half lidded and glimmering with mischief he finally says, "What's wrong, senpai? I promise I won't bite...unless you beg me to."
Your soul fucking ascends.
So, Sebek with a crush will be annoying af, especially when you're his senpai. He's already got an undeserved sense of confidence. Sebek can't help that he's better than these pudgy soft humans! He's also like Epel in that he wants to showboat and peacock for his crush. Did you see that? Look what he just did! Hey, human, keep your eyes open! Don't miss a single second! He's so excited.
You two met through Silver. Sometimes you studied with him and this time, you had some free time after your session. Silver invited you to tag along since you didn't have anything else to do for the rest of the day. Besides, there was no way horses were real. So, you accept.
Unfortunately, horses are real. Fortunately, the riding club looked really good in their uniforms. You lean on the fence and watch as everyone tends to their Butterscotch and Vorpal. Their Angus and Achilles. Then, you notice that one guy is struggling. Like, he's trying to coax his horse out of the stable and she wasn't having any of his bullshit. He was also yelling loud enough to startle the ravens in the nearby trees. The others just ignored him while you watched on curiously. But it started to get a little sad and you valued your eardrums. Rummaging through your bag, you take out a baggie of apple slices and head closer to the stable. You pull out a slice and whistle to them. Sebek never turned his head so fast and watched as his horse huffed at him and trotted over to nibble on your treats.
Needless to say, Sebek tried hard to dislike you for that alone.
But you kept visiting. He kept struggling. You kept winning over his (not so) trusty steed. So, he over compensates by showing off and bragging about stuff he can do that you can't. You put your chin in your hands and smile. There was something sweet about the way he wanted to prove himself. And clearly he was bothered by your visits. So you straight up tell him that you're going to teach him how to connect with his horse.
"Human! What makes you think you can order me around so confidently?!" He opens his mouth wide enough to show off his cute little fairy fangs. You shrug and start to walk off until "Where are you going?!"
"I figured that was your way of telling me no." He sputters as if your reasoning was preposterous. "What? What's with that face?"
"I...would like you to teach me..."
And from there, Sebek fell for you. He was already into you from day one, but he wouldn't admit it. What started as a little here and there visit became a routine for you both. The one time you aren't able to make it and all of a sudden, Sebek is flagging you down outside of your classroom. "Senpai! Where were you yesterday?!" You nearly jump out of your skin at the sound of his voice. As your heart starts to settle, you get the pleasure of listening to Sebbie lecture you about punctuality and keeping promises. A question finally interrupts him.
"Sebek-kun...do you wanna get lunch together?" His cheeks turn the prettiest shade of red when you lace your fingers through his. Sebek is such a good boy that he couldn't possibly turn you down.
BONUS! YUUKEN!
Haha look, Yuuken is cute and I kind of view him as his own person.
Yuuken friendzones you. Yeah, surprisingly you confessed to him and he turns you down. Not because of attraction but because he's from a whole other universe and falling in love only to come back to our shitty world would be heartbreaking. He doesn't want to put you through that. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't have feelings for you.
Yeah, he's noticed you. You flirt with him like everyone else does. But he likes when you do it. He flirts back for once. There's also something else that you do while he's there. You listen to him. Over time, you've noticed that Yuuken carries the entire school on his back. Overblots, unpleasant students, and Crowley. All of it takes a toll and you're always there to help. You weren't a main character. Just someone in the mob.
This one is after Idia's blot. You visit with tons of snacks for him (and Grim) and just let him vent. You always try to listen to everything and be an active listener. But you were kind of tired. It wasn't anything he said, you just had a long day. "You should get to bed," he said quietly, stopping just before the good part.
"No! I'm listening...I'm..." a yawn interrupts you. In your lap, Grim was already asleep. It was pretty late, wasn't it? "Please finish."
He smiles softly at you and lets you scoot closer to him on the couch. He's so warm. Yuuken continues his story and you're fully asleep by the time he gets to the end.
I would imagine that you two kind of have this "rumored" romance. The way yall smile, laugh and love up on each other really got people chatting. And his buddies (ACE...) is complaining that he didn’t have a chance with either of you. But you're both swearing up and down that you're just really close. Riiight.
"We're just friends..."
"Good friends or super good friends?"
"What’s the distinction?"
"You guys always run off without us!" They're pressed but like they get it. You're hot. They'd all ditch each other to hang out with someone older. Foolish boys.
But there was that time y'all kissed. It was an accident, you swear! During the Halloween Party, y'all got pretty turnt and shared a heated kiss. While neither of you bring it up, there's always that lingering feeling. What could be is right there yet just out of reach.

The fact fandom sees Obi-Wan as an uwu baby at 25 years old while also considering that Anakin should have got his feelings over his mother together at 9 show how bad it can get when we infantilize the characters to suit our vision of them imo.
At 25 Obi-Wan was a grown young adult when he started taking care of Anakin, in fact many people in real life marry and have children at that age, in light of that his hurt feelings and jealousy over Qui-Gon asking him to be knighted, which is supposed to be a good thing, a recognition of his skills, so he could take care of Anakin, show Qui-Gon was right in that Obi-Wan still had some maduration to go but that he was ready to be a Jedi Knight.
ObiWan defeating Maul sealed the deal for the council but it also presents a very problematic precedent, it wasn´t his emotional maturity and wiseness the thing that made Obi-Wan a knight but his dueling skills in his combat with Maul after his master was killed.
In Anakin´s case at 9 he was old to be introduced to the Jedi because he isn´t 4 or 5 but he is very young to be made a padawan, they usually start at 13 or 14 like Ahsoka did. So given Obi-Wan wish to train him to make a reality Qui-Gon´s dying wish, Anakin was made a padawan sooner than when he was supposed to be one, not because he was a kind child who worried about others and wanted to make a lasting change in the galaxy for the slaves, he was made a padawan because of his power potential and the Jedi Order didn´t try to make adecuations to the fact he was old enough to remember seeing slaves being blow up by their masters and the fact his mother was still a slave and in constant danger of this happening to her as well. Nothing of this was addressed with Anakin, he was told in no uncertain terms that his responsibility and compromise with the Jedi Order, which he made at 9, didn´t involve him thinking about his mother or seeing her ever again. Anakin obeyed this dictate until his mother was tortured killed and he had his first fall to the dark side by taking revenge on the tuskens for the murder of his mother.
Later at 19 he is made a Knight not because he had shown a grown in his control over the force or his own feelings but because he was an able soldier with leadership skills which served him well to survive a war in which the majority of the padawans of his generation were killed , at 20 he was made a Jedi master for Ahsoka during war time, he was responsible of teaching her how to be a Jedi while also making sure she didn´t die while also taking care of his troops and giving victories to the Republic all of which he did, even when his padawan was expelled, even when his men were killed for knowing too much like in Fives case and at 23 he was a general and one of the leading Jedi in the war, married to Padme with a child on the way, so Anakin was two years younger than Obi-Wan was when he was still a padawan and meet Anakin for the first time. Anakin fell to the darkside and became Vader when he was 23 years old, two years younger than padawan Obi-Wan.
So If I use the age argument it wasn´t Obi-Wan the one who got pushed into a situation he could not have managed on his own for his age but Anakin definitely was, because of his particular power and skills even if the popular take is that Obi-Wan was a baby at 25 taking care of an ungrateful, unstable almost teenager Anakin as a 9 year old, for many fans Anakin never was a child but he was, the fact he didn´t had an actual childhood is another thing.
But well if we take this in consideration then it makes all the sense in the world Yoda choose to let Anakin´s twins grow up with their families, train Luke when he was an adult and not make him a Knight at 23 if he didn´t deal with his inner conflict over his father but it was Luke´s choice of not wanting to fight or kill his father but rather ask him to come back to him, to the person he used to be, the thing that made the difference. Anakin came back to save his child from his master, himself and the Empire, he gave up his life to give Luke and Luke´s dreams a chance.
So while age certainly is a factor it isn´t everything when it´s about a character grow and choices imo.

Sakura wasn't badly written. People just can't let go of their preconceived ideas of who the characters are or how the story is supposed to go. But Sakura's feelings for Sasuke weren't shallow, they weren't based on his popularity or looks, her lesson was not growing past her love because it was holding her back. Her love didn't make her weak or hold her back.... Because it wasn't shallow.
Sasuke was never abusive, used her, or looked down on her. He doesn't have a shred of misogyny in his body. He was always honest and pushed her because Sasuke did care about her safety and he did see her potential. And he did appreciate her kindness. A lot. And Sasuke didn't get a lot of that. Sasuke always supported her growth and was happy for her when he saw it. And he wasn't phased by it because unlike others, Sasuke recognized that potential. The big twist about Sasuke is that he is actually does live up to the hype, but he's not who people assume he'll be. He is a really kind and caring person AND a strong fighter. Or rather, he's a strong fighter because he's a kind and caring person. Naruto teaches us that true strength comes from love and having someone you want to protect.
Lee and Naruto by contrast wanted to treat her like a princess or a prize to be won. And in another story in which Sakura is a victim to an abusive toxic boyfriend that she is infatuated with, Sakura's lesson might have been to end up with one of them. But maybe that's not the message of this story. Maybe in this story, the message all along was meant to be that sometimes women know themselves better than others do and to respect women's choices. And Lee is an awesome guy because even though he didn't get her, he doesn't act she owes him. And Naruto is an awesome guy because he came to realize Sakura wasn't just a prize for him. So the lesson wasn't for Sakura, to realize she liked the wrong guy, the lesson was meant for Naruto, to realize Sakura's feelings and thoughts are valid and to respect her choices. To recognize that Sakura is valid even if she isn't his love interest. And Naruto's maturity in recognizing that and backing off is a lesson a lot of people still need to hear.

Ooooh, just saw your Self Aware!6 and I love how you portrayed him! You mentioned that he can hear the player, but not see them, right?
What if 6 encounters a player who has him as their favorite character (yk putting him as the main character in the interface), hearing them gushing about how 6 looks so handsome and how they prefer him over 37 and the people at Apeiron, mumbling about how he doesn't deserve the trouble, and actually rooting for him reading his event story? Basically just talking about him, unaware that 6 could actually hear them.
Anyways, I'll let you cook <3
Tumblr media
;R1999 6 - Self-Aware AU (2)
Tumblr media
Compilation of headcanons about how a self-aware 6 would react to a Player who gushes over him. Related to this Self-Aware AU post.
Tumblr media
ty for your ask, nonnie! sorry if this isnt what you were hoping for, I cant exactly see a character like 6 enjoying this sort of treatment!
Tumblr media
Right away, I think this sort of thing would make 6 extremely uncomfortable.
We know how he feels about receiving attention or being on the spotlight, how he prefers to stay by the sidelines and only put himself out there when others need mediation or whenever his people require him to play the role of leader--so to have a voice constantly praising and gushing over him would be really tiring. 6 is the type of person who enjoys--perhaps it's better to say that he needs--time alone, with nothing but his thoughts and some peace and quiet, after all.
Is this, somehow, his unchecked ego? Are these his own deepest thoughts manifesting as a voice coming from above, muddling the truth? No, that can't be. 6 knows that his self-esteem and opinion on himself is much more humble than this.
Once he finds out about the existence of the Player, he grows even more confused. Or rather, a bit more timid now that he knows you're watching over him, scrutinizing and observing each and every gesture, every little thing he says. He's your favorite character for reasons he cannot even fathom--not due to a sense of inferiority or inadequacy, but genuine confusion. Did he mess up somewhere? He's not supposed to receive this much attention beyond his contributions to the main story.
I think 6 would be indifferent to any comments about his appearance. His entire bloodline is praised for their unique complexion, this isn't new at all. Comments about how the Player prefers him over 37 or the people of Apeiron--HIS people, HIS community--wouldn't sit well with him, since they're people he cherishes and considers important, even if he keeps his distance from them.
Overall, treating him like this and putting him on a pedestal just further enforces those themes of isolation from the previous post, so to speak!
A much younger 6 would've definitely appreciated the support, to have someone in his corner, especially after losing his aunt to the Revelation. But I like to think that 6 as he is right now is mature enough to recognize the importance of everyone else's points of views. He, more than anyone, understands that he had his faults and that his actions should have consequences, and his humble and pacifist side would also lead him to defend the actions of others, such as 210, despite the previous tension between them. There's a reason his number represents harmony!
And because he represents harmony and perfection, I think he would just tolerate this for a long time. He's spent years in isolation, he's had people talk at him about things he cannot find himself to care about--this is no trouble at all. 6 would simply sit there, or go on about his day as you ramble about him. But I can see him wishing to be turned into a painting in the main screen as often as possible, just for a moment of reprieve.
The more you praise him, the less he talks.
For 6 to truly listen what you have to say, you'll have to talk about something that isn't him. He is curious, especially when he catches you murmuring about other things, such as your next strategy to win this UTTU Special Week, or complaining about the lack of materials to level up others.
I think what 6 would like the most is catching glimpses of the life you lead when you're not focusing on the game, when you complain about responsibilities and how eager you are to unwind by playing the game, when your pet interrupts and you stop playing to shower it with attention and love... These small, fleeting flashes of who you are when no one else is around. Aside from this, he would also love to hear your opinion on the events of the game, without this obvious favoritism for him--what do you think of the allegory of the cave? Do you ever wonder about your soul number?
These are the things that would get 6 to slowly warm up to the idea of the Player watching over him, that would get him to speak back to you one day, on impulse or on purpose. And only once 6 sees you as more than a distant voice, when you finally bond with him in a more meaningful way, perhaps your praise will actually mean something to him. Perhaps he will thank you directly with a small smile, perhaps he will ask you to explain why you feel so strongly about him, genuinely curious about your point of view.
But in the mean time, silence is a virtue.

Why Fandom Gets Felix Wrong Sometimes
Ever seen someone say "Felix hates Dimitri" or anyone argue that any route but AM is the actually the "best" for Felix? Yeah. I'm talking about these people.
The people who argue that "CF is good for Felix, actually" (let's be real, guys, it's ALWAYS CF with this) want him to be a character that he isn't.
Here's their core argument as I understand it. AM!Felix is negative character development because he ends up doing what's expected of him and becoming part of Faerghus "toxic culture" rather than crusading against it. When Felix sides against Faerghus he is "freed" from it and the unfair expectations of nobility. What they ignore is that this is not the character development arc Felix gets in CF - at all.
Felix isn't "free;" he's miserable. He becomes what he hates and wants to die. What we learn about Felix in CF, SS, and VW isn't that Faerghus, Rodrigue, and Dimitri were toxic hell-pits Felix escapes, but that Felix is a traumatized, emotionally-constipated teenager who deeply loves his family and friends.
When Felix doesn't resolve things with his Faerghus family, he goes on downward spiral. By fleeing his problems rather than maturing and dealing with them, Felix grows toxic, but the closer proximity he has to Dimitri, Rodrigue, and Faerghus, the better off he is. But they just ignore Felix's dialogue and endings and make up the version of Felix that they want to exist because that's the character and themes they want. It's fine for fanfiction, but annoying when they act like this is cannon.
Felix hates who he becomes in CF. He commits mindless violence since he has nothing to protect and nothing he believes in anymore, just things he hates. CF isn't "freeing" for him no matter how thematically that fits someone's view of it.
His character arc isn't about how toxic Faerghus/Dimitri/Rodrigue is, it's about learning how to mature, it's about facing trauma and accepting the complex nature of reality and duality of people, about accepting the idea that not everyone thinks and reacts the same way he does and sometimes differences in beliefs are ok and neither person is wrong. It's a lesson that's extremely hard to learn and emotionally complicated. It's, well, right in line with all of what AM and the Blue Lions are about.
Sometimes you just have to accept that CF may not be the best route for the entire cast (Annette, Felix, Sylvain, and Ingrid especially) and stop doing mental gymnastics to act like killing your friends and family is this totally healthy, liberating, and mature thing. 😅

A Quick Analysis on Gojo's Childhood Implication
(This analysis will touch up mildly on child psychology.)
Three points to consider about his childhood: 1) Satoru is revered for his strength since he was a literal infant,
2) he was targeted by bounty hunters ever since he was born, and
3) he's shown to display a stark behavior when he was a child in contrast to his adult self.
To start this off, interpreting a manga is not just about reading the phrases. Manga is a storytelling format that combines drawn art and written words. In character design, artists put stories behind a character's expression (facial expressions, choice of clothes, environment, etc.) deliberately in attempt to express storytelling.
The language of art in this respect is all about interpreting the "show dont tell". And you can gain a lot of information from that alone, if you get the context.
In the manga, kid Gojo is drawn consistently impassive compared to adult Gojo, even as far as to actually contrast him to his adult self in a specific panel. The difference of personality is a deliberate choice to tell a story from his childhood which is in contrast to his current self.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based on those three points, we can read that:
Gojo did not grow up normally. No normal kid grows up and is already threatened for existing. A kid cannot properly figure out why he's 'a threat', let alone have the mature mind to immediately digest why his environment is treating him a certain way (taking account the amount of fixations on his strength).
It's canon information that Gojo is spoiled as a kid. As children, the desire and need to feel loved and accepted is innate. Since his childhood, boy is fussed with people acknowledging him. However, the question remains, did the people around him accepted him for who he was, or was it for his gifted strength alone? It is fairly obvious why people were eager to meet his existence.
Tumblr media
As kids, it's natural to look up to older people who they can trust, figuring out their place in the world, and building their own self-worth. The constant attention makes it a no wonder why Satoru developed to have an intense hyperfixation on his strength alone. It's a reflection of how the world views him, putting his strength before his very being on top of the pedestal.
Tumblr media
Rightfully so, in the present day, Gojo grew up to be overly fixated about how strong he is, taking his entire identity. His self-interest lies deep in relation to his strength.
Tumblr media
To reiterate, Gojo did not have a healthy and normal childhood circumstance. Take any child into what he has psychologically gone through at his formative and early age, seeing the world through an eyes of a child. The things he experienced can be considered as childhood neglection as he lacked the proper needs as a child (healthy boundaries, security). In present day, his hyperfixation on strength is deeply infrangible. His worth and being is emphasised by the filter of his Six Eyes throughout the manga.
Satoru's relationship with his strength is like a crux to his being. He copes with strength and gains pleasure from strength. Dude keeps yapping, "I'm the strongest." because that alone validates and satisfies his existence and his self-worth. In Satoru's case, him born with the Six Eyes skewed his perception of the world - from the moment he was raised and the moment he was born. Noone is there to truly understand his perspective (thus further isolating him) because noone has the Six Eyes but him. It is bound for him to live with centering his own strength and understanding himself through that.
When I hear people talk about how arrogant or boastful he is, it's because he has the right to given his unavoidable circumstance, a result of years of being validated as the strongest. That said, Satoru is very conscientious with his status which makes it interesting. It shows how layered he is as a character. Rather than questioning his own identity without his power, he seems to think more about his power and how he can live with it for his own sake despite being painfully aware of how it causes him to rift from other people.
Tumblr media
From this line, it is implied that Satoru did yearn for other people to understand his loneliness but has come to a conclusion that he will never experience it given his status, and that he's fine with it now. Taking this into consideration of his childhood, a person who's needs are met wouldn't simply yearn to be understood at his current age unless if his needs (feeling loved and understood) aren't met at all. Drawing from this, it's safe to assume that Satoru lacked feeling truly validated as a person growing up, and that his Six Eyes, the blessing he is born with, is indeed a curse in hindsight to a 'living thing' like Satoru. Satoru understands he's not human enough to be human but he is indeed still a living thing.

ATLA LA Ep2 Let's go:
I love that they kept a lot of the original music, but one thing I could have done without is the generic three-note chord to signal a cut to a scene with a villainous character. Those specific notes have been parodied too often for me to take it seriously. It's one thing that always jarred me in the original and it is especially jarring in live action to hear music that signifies a cartoon villain is about to walk on screen.
Zuko throwing things and chewing the scenery my beloved
"He ran! He's a coward!" I do love the angle of Zuko being confronted with the reality of what he thought would be a glorious destiny. There are two reasons Zuko associates not fighting with cowardice. One is because of what he believes about the fire nation as a whole, but also because of what his father made him believe about himself.
I do like that Aang is identifying that controlling the Avatar State is a problem he needs to solve. It gives me hope that the writers are trying to actually flesh out that plot point where the original failed. I don't like that there's been no mention yet of him needing to learn waterbending. Which brings me to...
Yes, Katara, it IS unbelievable that you've learned waterbending in a day all because Aang said some mumbo to you about energy. That's why I don't believe it. Katara does grow fast in the original, too, but it still feels organic. Here it doesn't and once again, it feels like they are giving that credit all to Aang and I hate that. I also hate that this is Katara's motivation rather than the Katara who took it upon herself to make sure the Avatar learned waterbending whether he wanted to or not.
There is something missed by Kanna giving Katara the waterbending scroll. Idk, trying not to compare to the original because I did want Kanna to be more active in Katara's life. But I get the same feeling of loss here as Aang already having Appa's whistle. Those two things in the original were part of a point about the tragedy of cultural attrition, that Aang has to buy back a cultural artifact that the seller does not even know the true meaning of, that Katara has to steal hers from pirates who already stole from her culture. It also begs the question that if Kanna had that scroll the whole time, why didn't she show it to Katara before, who was so desperate to learn waterbending?
Zuko talking about being gone three years, clearly ecstatic at the thought that his banishment will come to an end, while Iroh looks like he's about to send his son to his death for the second time. Kudos to the actors' faces expressing so much in that one scene.
The actor for Sokka is very good-looking.
Aang and Katara playing in the water was cute, but they seem even farther apart in maturity here than in the original. Even that scene comes across as a much older sister honoring a young child. I don't get a sense of Katara as someone yearning to be a child.
She's not wrong about the Avatar bringing connections, but Aang showing off isn't really the best illustration of that concept.
Okay, so, I saw some people complaining about Suki wanting to leave home "because of a boy" and like, that also happened in the original. What feels kinda pat here is that we've also added overprotective mom to the mix, which I don't love. When I said I wanted Suki's mom I meant I wanted to know how Suki became a warrior, I wanted to see more women bonding with other women and women's autonomy being treated as normal. Not whatever this is.
So they don't already know Zhao here? That's less interesting. Also "actual royalty." Another log to keep the "Zhao is a royal bastard" theory burning. Heh, burning.
Sokka is still a prick about girls fighting, everyone can rest easy now. Also his reaction when Suki tries to flirt with him the same way he does with her is exactly how that would play out in real life.
Aang avoiding fighting out of fear of his own power adds an interesting dimension to his character which is only briefly touched on in the original.
Zuko and Katara 1v1 yes!!!
Katara flashbacking to her mom's death during her first real fight is a nice touch.
KYOSHI!!!
Zhao wasn't very impressive until Zuko accidentally gave him a foothold, then that shit-eating grin was great.
I'll hold off on really commenting on this because I haven't gotten that far yet, but I heard that Ozai is more willing to praise Zuko here and it just does not make a lot of sense to me, not only because that is not how that kind of parent works, but also because hearing the news from Zhao, who would 100% play up Zuko having discovered and then LOST the Avatar, would just make Ozai see Zuko as more of a failure for having come close. Unless Zuko does something spectacular in the next few episodes I don't see Ozai being impressed.

"For you, Rollo." One of the gargoyles slips something into his hand. When Rollo unfurls his hand, he finds a fistful of flower seeds in his palm. "You like gardening, don't you? Maybe you can plant these and watch them grow into something beautiful. Then you can look at those flowers and your heart will be at peace."
I really like the idea of flowers as symbolism for character growth and development 😌 I was thinking a lot about that connection and What Else Can I Do? from Encanto while writing this.
Anyway, stan gargoyle 🫶
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rollo recognized the gargoyle as soon as it had hopped up to him. A 10-degree difference on the wings, the 1-centimeter scratch running along the head. There was no mistaking it: this gargoyle was the very same that had caught him upon his defeated descent from the bell tower.
"Y'know, we're always up here. You can talk to us if something's botherin' ya."
Suddenly the flower seeds in his palm felt heavier than lead. A metallic taste coated the back of his tongue.
“I picked them up from the pesky birds that visit the bell tower," the gargoyle rambled cheerily. "The other day, a whole family made its nest in my mouth while I was still sleeping! Can you believe that?”
Rollo cut straight to the point.
"How did you know about the gardening?" he managed, in spite of the dryness that consumed his throat. His usual perfect, practiced poise came through.
The gargoyle laughed, low and gravely like the rock he was carved from. "It's been three whole years now. There's not a day in the year when you skip out on polishing the Bell of Salvation, cleaning us gargoyles... or watering the campus flowers."
He bristled. "You act as though you know me."
But no one does.
Not when he had stowed all his secrets away in that diary. Away from his classmates, away from his parents, away from the world. All the turmoil and hurt and anguish, banished to the pages.
Troubles rooted deep, not meant for mortal eyes.
The gargoyle's answer was a simple one. He tapped his temple and grinned. "I may not know what's going on in your head, but I know that you have a big heart. It's a good foundation. Fertile soil for flowers to grow—if you'll let them."
He nodded, indicating Rollo’s hand.
The seeds.
The start of something new.
Rollo curled his fingers back around them—a cage for the seeds, the bars stopping just short of crushing them. “… Heh. Hilarious. I hadn’t realized that stone was capable of comedy.”
If the gargoyle was offended, he didn’t show it. He slowly inclined his head to one side. “Yes, yes, I can see it now. A plant pushing through the dirt, rising through the roof and to the skies. That’s the sort of flower you’d be.”
“You think rather highly of me.”
When you’re fully aware of what I am capable of.
“I do. That's just the sort of person I've come to know you as, someone we can rely on. I’d trust you with the clothes right off my back if I wore any clothes!!”
The gargoyle chuckled at his own bad joke, elbowing Rollo in the ribs to encourage him to join in. The best he got was a stifled wheeze--more of a result of the jab than actually finding humor in his words.
“… Hey, Rollo. When these flowers have blossomed, I hope you'll be able to look at them and feel a little more at ease."
"I cannot make any promises as to how I will feel about the flowers, whether they've reached full maturity or not," he warned. Stern, pragmatic--as always.
"That's fine," the gargoyle replied with a patient grin.
One day, those feelings might change. Until then... I’ll watch over you as you, too, grow into something beautiful.

Tumblr media
Your fingers tremble with a mixture of anticipation and excitement as you grab onto the elastic of Yoongi’s boxers. The knowledge that you are about to reveal the object of your deepest desire sends a shiver down your spine. With a swift, almost eager motion, you roll down the fabric and pull it down, exposing Yoongi’s throbbing cock to the morning air. The sight before you takes your breath away. It’s not your first encounter with a dick, by no means, but this is different. Yoongi’s cock is a work of art, beautifully sculpted and perfectly proportioned. Its girth is something to behold, stretching your imagination as to how it will feel when it’s buried deep inside you. The reddened tip glistens with a bead of precum, a visual testament to his undeniable desire for you.
A teasing smile dances on your lips as you lick them, your gaze fixed on his cock. It’s a moment of pure, unfiltered desire as you reach out, your hand trembling with anticipation. You’re captivated by the pulsing heat emanating from him, and the thought of how he’ll feel in your grasp ignites a fire within you. Your fingers brush against the silky skin, and you can’t help but let out a soft, appreciative gasp at the sensation. As your hand closes around his throbbing length, you know that there’s no turning back from the ecstasy that awaits you both.
Your eagerness is palpable as you stroke his dick, desire burning in your eyes. His raspy, breathless voice sends shivers down your spine as he anticipates your next move. With a devilish glint in your eyes, you slowly let go of his throbbing cock, releasing it from your gentle grasp.
“I know what you’re thinking, babe,” he pants, his voice laced with a mix of desire and restraint, “but if you do that, I’m gonna cum in five seconds, and that would be embarrassing.”
You can’t help but pout in mock offense, your lips forming a playful, sultry curve. Your own arousal is undeniable, but you’re willing to indulge in some teasing foreplay before diving into the depth of passion. You just really want to suck him off, or at least give him a hand.
“I would rather cum inside your pussy,” his sultry words send a delicious thrill coursing through your body, and your breath hitches as his warm tongue grazes your earlobe. You can’t help but squirm beneath him, your need for him growing more intense by the second.
Your hand, guided by desire and need, finds its way back to his throbbing cock, fingers wrapping around it firmly, but not too tight. You begin to stroke him slowly, your touch teasing and deliberate.
Yoongi’s eyes darken with desire as he watches your skilled fingers dance over his length. The intensity of the moment hangs in the air, and you both know you’re playing with fire.
“God, I’d love that,” you gasp, the mere thought sending shivers of anticipation racing down your spine, your voice trembling with desire.

the unfortunate reality is that sns just isn’t that good.
sure, it could have been good if this or if that or the other thing, but the fact of the matter is that it’s not, and the main reason it isn’t is actually touted by a lot of sns fans as one of the central pillars of the relationship.
when kishimoto retconned naruto and sasuke’s relationship to state that they always understood each other, he undermined an entire series where the central conflict was about the two of them not understanding each other. to read from the beginning with this interpretation requires you to cast a ridiculous, needlessly complicated filter over all their interactions, giving them the character of a pair of chessmasters, rather than young boys. naruto and sasuke, if you throw out the retcon, read as a perfectly comprehensible narrative about two children who (realistically!) can’t see past the intricacies of their sociopolitical situations to understand that they have a lot in common. over time, their emotional maturity grows, allowing them to begin to realise this.
this is why the “i’ll bear the burden of your hatred and die with you” scene is so weighty; naruto is acknowledging that it is the realities of their circumstances that keep them apart, and he wants to meet again in another life where none of that exists. this scene is the canary in the coal mine, letting us know this relationship is going to end in tragedy; they’ve chosen separate ways, paths which are inevitably fated to cross, and the only way for them to meet again as friends is in death. he’s finally come to understand, but it’s too late. when faced with the choice of sasuke or konoha, naruto chose the village. that’s a huge choice that should, realistically, come with a consequence. even if this ends, somehow, with the both of them alive, the memory of that choice, and the circumstances that created it, remains. because naruto (the manga) is an immature narrative, however, there are no realistic, interesting consequences. sasuke is made to give up and magically let go of his grudge against an institution which murdered his family and destroyed his life, of his pursuit of justice, which, from the very start, defined him as a character, so naruto can have both his friend and the admiration of said institution. the end of the series is the death of sasuke’s character, and i could go into an in-depth analysis of chapter 699 and how i think kishimoto knows this on some level, hence why sasuke never truly returned to konoha (ergo, to naruto, since, in becoming hokage, naruto becomes synonymous with konoha). sns is depressing. i see the tongue-in-cheek posts about the sns affair, the sns divorce arc, and all i can think of is how bleak an ending this is for sasuke, and how out of character it is. what i wouldn’t have given for him to hear “i know your heart, and you mine” and lash out with a resounding “no you don’t”.
but the late series, and shippuden as a whole, more and more as it drags on, is synonymous with predetermination superseding free will. i don’t think it’s a coincidence that i don’t see many sns fans talking about the first part of the series, where naruto and sasuke are actually forging this relationship. sns would be nothing without the story pre-timeskip, but people tend to focus on shippuden-era sns, which, to some extent, i understand. this is the era most fraught with emotional tension (and where naruto spends the entire time with a thought bubble that says “sasuke”, because he lost all of his depth as a character from part 1 in favour of that, but i digress), but when it comes to looking for the core of their bond, to the actual raison d’être, the entirety of part 1 gets far less press than the scenes of them as young children in the academy – scenes which were introduced extremely late in the series as brief flashbacks. kishimoto’s fixation with destiny invalidates the themes of part 1 on all levels, and the sns relationship is in no way exempt.
so could sns have been good? yes, as a tragic relationship, disregarding the retcon. except, from what i see, people who like sns seem to really, really like it. they take the overly-complex retcon interpretation and use it in support of a “naruto and sasuke always loved one another” or “naruto and sasuke had their positive feelings for each other twisted by their martial society” reading. it’s not even that these are inherently bad takes, in a literary sense, it’s simply that they don’t hold up to the rest of the manga. asserting in the very late series that these two characters have been watching each other for some time doesn’t hold up with the reality of the story, which begins on naruto and sasuke having no thoughts or opinions of one another beyond their surface-level feelings towards a classmate they don’t particularly like or understand. the growth of this into their genuine bond is much more meaningful, because it occurs textually. it is a true show of increasing mental and emotional maturity, rather than a frustrating wait for the characters to stop dancing around the conclusion of their emotional journey, which they already know, for some reason, from the beginning. that’s the core of it, really: the retcon puts the end at the beginning, making the entire story a pointless exercise in futility. destiny is wholeheartedly embraced as romantic and self-evident, rather than the death of narrative and interpersonal complexity, and the fundamental truth that love is a choice – the continual, conscious decision to choose each other, day after day – and we already know what naruto’s choice was.
(you might say, well, I think X or Y should have changed; naruto should have learned about the destruction of uzushiogakure and understood he and sasuke came from a very similar situation,  – which, itself, rests on another late-series destiny boner retcon – naruto should never have become loyal to the village after the way he was treated, naruto should have joined with sasuke to tear down konoha – but that’s not the way it was written, and if this is your justification, you admit it is a relationship as flawed in its narrative as the ones it is so often purported to be so much better than.)

tenma sumeragi’s genuinely one of my favorite characters in a piece of media ever and it’s still difficult to quite explain why. like with other characters I love—take yuki from the same game, for example, I can boil down the main parts of why I like them at least fairly succinctly… with yuki I love that his crossdressing isn’t a joke but a sincere expression of his love of fashion, and that he’s both insightful and cutting and vulnerable in a way that middle schoolers can be. (okay i can tell this will get long so the rest under the cut)
but for tenma, it’s like the way that I adore him is a… collection of little details? like, I simply become more charmed over time… or something.
he’s closed off and pompous at the beginning, all while carrying a deep sense of earnestness even from the start—though he acts like he’s hot shit, he auditions for mankai out of his deep respect for sakuya adlibbing and a desire to improve himself. even as a popular child actor inheriting the legacy of famous movie stars, it’s clear he’s got his own deep appreciation for acting as well as his own personal standards.
like, even in the beginning, when he’s got a low opinion of his cast mates, he’s respectful of yuzo’s critique. and later we see that when he doesn’t get the part he wanted for this amazing audition, he acknowledges his own faults and understands he has room to grow. for someone who is frequently irritable and always bickering with yuki, there’s a startling kind of maturity when it comes to acting. and it’s part of why summer troupe is so good for him—as much as he is their leader, he also gets to act like a kid!
he’s stupid and sheltered enough to be scared off by fireworks, but he’s insightful when it comes to acting, which it’s clear he’s studied very much. and he’s scared of ghosts, but he’ll head back to face his father all on his own with quiet resolution, making a blog post so that he’s literally unable to back out from the show, and no one else can make him do so. rather than refuse to sell tickets under the weight of his star power, he adores mankai so much that he’s willing to sacrifice that pride of his, because summer troupe is the one thing that he can’t let go. and he returns with a black eye because his father punched him, but simply brushes it off.
I think what really gets me is like… for someone whose life has been characterized by loneliness, he’s earnest and sincere and loving. it’s him that takes the initiative to step forward and change himself. and when he does, and makes the first proper friends of his life, it’s that connection that allows him to learn how to adlib so wonderfully and successfully.
maybe what I appreciate most is that for all the dramatic elements in tenma’s life, and his in-your-face loudness every once in a while (hear him squawk about some injustice or whatever) he’s actually quite a reserved guy? but I never feel that I can’t see the depths of his love for the people that he cares about, as well as the passion he holds towards acting. there’s lots of little details, though… I feel like I haven’t even touched on half of them!
