"That's not how you play Shadowrun!"

You know what? I am gonna talk Cyberpunk this week. Specifically I am gonna talk about my issues with the genre. And I could not think of a better place to start but Shadowrun.

You see: I always loved Cyberpunk, because I grew up on Japanese Cyberpunk. And both the atmosphere, the aesthetic and heck, the rebelliousness of the genre were always my thing. As such it is not much of a surprise that I, who also loves to play TTRPGs, was instantly drawn to Shadowrun once I learned about it.

But... While I was playing Shadowrun I got to hear one thing from several players: "That is not how you play Shadowrun!"

Now, what about my playstyle was it, that irked them like that? Did I min-max too much? Or exploited something in the game? (Okay, admittedly I found one broken mechanic in SR5E.) Did I endanger the group? Or what was it, that I did?

Well, simple. I... played a character, who is not an asshole. In fact, I played characters, who were... at times self-less and did things for other people. Which included both the NPCs and other player characters. Because, you know... Again: I just did not play total assholes.

And apparently that is not "how you play Shadowrun". Apparently Shadowrun requires you to play asshole characters. Apparently there are rules against trying to positively influence the game world. Sure, the rules are not there in the rulebook, but I apparently... was supposed to just asume this. Because... Being self-less is actually stupid, you see?

So, uhm... Yeah. I haven't played Shadowrun in a while because of that. Because of the three groups I played in two of them had one or two of the dudes, who would decry my characters doing the "right" thing. Something that I just do because... TTRPGs are in the end a power fantasy. And my power fantasy is it to help people. Even in a cutthroat world.

But it is this kinda thinking that kinda irks me with Cyberpunk so much. The entire cutthroat "everyone needs to be an asshole" kind of thinking. Because... It is tiring.

I get my very first possible dnd group that might actually last more than 2 sessions, and before the session 0 I bring up the consent checklist. And they start making r*pe jokes. And going “fuck your consent”.

I feel really bad for leaving. I honestly want to sh over it but I don’t even have the energy to.

Some visuals to go with my rpg horror story I posted on reddit.

I was trying to figure out why I got attached to this guy so much and I think It might have been his sense of perseverance. I always put a bit of myself into my characters and his struggles reminded me of my own when I was younger, when I was getting bullied by people I thought were my friends while dealing with the things my family put me through.

His core is the survival instinct people have despite even their own brains working against them and it's something that shaped me as a person as well.

Weirdly enough when I made this chart I was surprised that the art I make is influenced by my own emotions. Shocking I know. Like bruh the colour was literally sucked out of it! How did I not see it?

Thought I'd share a little update on After-Connect.

This is the page format I've tentatively decided on. Illustrated background/border, with a box of text placed somewhere appropriate.

This is the rough draft of the first page. Sketched background. Might make some adjustments before starting the line-art phase.

Any-who, what do you think of this page format? You'll get a feel for the decision making and randomized aspects of the game when I reveal the second page, but I'm just not quite there yet. :p

A few fandoms I love to write in are Stephen King's It (2017), Stranger Things, Harry Potter (sometimes it’s best to separate the art from the artist), Marvel and a few more. I really love using OCs as well. World building is so so fun, so let's create our own characters and lore. This is what I'm more focused on finding at the moment, original character roleplay.

I only rp on discord, I'm a descriptive literate writer and expect my partners to be as well. I'm okay with smut as long as the characters are adults. I prefer to be a sub but depending on the character can be a switch. Or we can double and both play bad guys as well as our good guys. Not my favorite thing to do but if I vibe with you I’ll do it. I have only like, two limits with writing plots and such for trigger warnings and I'm a pretty fast responder if I do say so myself.

I've been rping for about 12 or so years now and only really have one steady friend to do it with. I also love to act and do video/voice calls in character although that's not required at all! I'm mainly looking for a partner I can world build with and have our own ocs and storylines. Something romantic, sci-fi, horror, slice of life or something super fucked up and twisted…or just some fluff. I'm down for it all. It would be awesome to find someone willing to play a sadistic character for some plots I have in mind.

Is there anyone out there that doesn't actually hold back with their writing?

Behold, a Book!

After a fair amount of hard work, I'm proud to announce that I've just released my first RPG book! It's Shrouded Legacies, a Vampire: the Masquerade, 20th Anniversary Edition, supplement available on the Storytellers vault! This is more of a standalone piece that really inspired the whole story of our game. It’s very sketchy in comparison to everything else we’ve been working on!

I’ve been very influenced by music boxes during our project’s development, so that’s what I’m intending for our soundtrack to resemble. The music of a music box reminds me of childhood, but it also sets an eerie tone, I think. That’s what I’m going for, anyway.

I’d love to start interacting with some folks! It’s been a long time since I’ve truly used Tumblr.
