Never buy a 6 decades old stuffed animal filled with dirt… best mistake of my life
(Images of her irl + full story under the cut)
I’ve wanted a rubber faced doll ever since I discovered them back when I was in middle school. Their cute, slightly creepy appearance and interesting faces have always inspired and intrigued me. However, I had never had the chance to own one until now. Heck, before getting Rosy, I had never even seen one irl! I had only seen images of them online so I didn’t have any idea what to expect. How did their fabric and rubber faces feel? She wasn’t one of the famous Rushton star creation toys but that was fine with me since she was one of the cutest ones I had ever seen.
When she arrived, I opened the box and upon seeing her I flinched. Idk !! It’s kinda jarring seeing one of these creatures irl for the first time, I picked her up and upon further inspection she was EXTREMELY dusty/dirty. The listing did NOT show this or say anything warning about it in the description. Here is what she looked like upon arrival. The clean spot on her face in the second photo is where I passed my finger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was terrible, I knew she needed a nice wash. I thought maybe she was just a bit dusty… oh boy was I wrong. I decided to unstitch the seam on her back and remove the stuffing, this was the single most important step of the process because nothing could’ve prepared me for what happened next. THIS was what was inside when I opened her up:
Tumblr media
Up until now, I still have no idea what this stuff was or is but she was totally full of it. Perhaps whatever was inside her had totally decomposed, but I don’t know what or how this could’ve happened. It was like DIRT or sand, or something. It was dark and very thin in texture. One of my friends said it looked like human ashes, which I hope was not the case. I doubt it though, since it was even lodged into her ears (her ears are hollow inside), while it’s possible that she could’ve been tampered with because the stitches on the back of her head were extremely sloppy and visible, some other images of these bunnies sometimes had similar stitching. It could’ve been anything really. Obviously I used a mask and gloves while removing this. I even made sure to turn her body totally inside out to make sure ALL of it was gone.
Tumblr media
After that, I proceeded to give her a nice hand wash and brushed out her fur. You may notice a patch of it is missing near her arm but that was always there, it just wasn’t visible in the first image but the listing photos did show this. Then I set her to air dry on a hanger. I would recommend against this though since I believe her mid section was slightly stained by it when her pink back fur was pressed against the white on the front. The next day after I got home from school she was dry. I went out and got some new stuffing for her and stitched her back up. Here she is nice and new with a few other plush friends ! I decided to give her a little bow too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall I’m super happy with how this restoration turned out, Rosy is absolutely perfect now! She is everything I could’ve wanted in a rubber faced doll. I’m still getting used to her presence but she makes me very happy and I feel like I did her a great service by restoring her and giving her a new loving home ^_^

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)
From Walt Disney Pictures, this sci-fi adventure film stars Rick Moranis as inventor Wayne Szalinski who accidentally shrinks his kids and his neighbors’ kids to the size of fleas with his newly invented shrinking machine. Not only that, but the kids are forced to make their way through the thick jungles of the backyard after they are swept up and thrown out with the trash.
The supporting cast includes: Matt Frewer as ill-tempered next-door neighbor “Big Russ” Thompson Sr., Marcia Strassman as wife Diane Szalinski, Kristine Sutherland as Mae Thompson, Amy O’Neill as typical teenage girl Amy Szalinski, Robert Oliveri (who also played Winona Ryder’s little brother in Edward Scissorhands) as young science nerd Nick Szalinski, Thomas Wilson Brown as insecure “Little Russ” Thompson Jr. and Jared Rushton (who also played the best friend of Tom Hanks’ character in Big) as sports-loving Ron Thompson. A crucial animal character includes the Szalinski family dog named Quark.
Of all the performances in this movie, Rick Moranis takes center stage in a lead performance that distinguishes him from his previous roles. What’s more, he still maintains a nerdy image whilst playing a bumbling father/nutty scientist who goes on a microscopic search for the kids.
In terms of analyzing the dynamic between the two neighbors, the Szalinskis are a dysfunctional family living under scientific misfortune. Meanwhile, the Thompsons are under the strict patriarchal discipline of Big Russ, who pushes his older son to follow in his footsteps and neglects his younger son despite the latter’s outdoorsy style. Both families, particularly the kids, start out hostile toward each other (with the exception of Little Russ, who has a secret crush on Amy), but gradually learn to cooperate along the way.
The film takes a huge step forward in creating a spectacular variety of special effects involving state-of-the-art illusion that combines miniaturized children with oversized props that appear terrifying. Examples include: a giant bee flying swiftly around the yard (with Nick and Little Russ forced to hang on for dear life), torrential splashes of water from the sprinkler system and a runaway lawn mower. On the upside, the kids befriend a juvenile ant (given the nickname “Antie”) that helps them on their journey. They even come across a huge Oatmeal Cream cookie from Little Debbie (a personal favorite snack of Antie) that resolves their growing hunger. Another magnified food item depicted in the movie (but instead serves as yet another life-threatening hazard) is a bowl of Cheerios.
This movie has just enough physical and sci-fi comedy to convey a sense of family-friendly fun. In other words, this film has the right ingredients for an amusing Disney motion picture classic as opposed to an old-fashioned sci-fi B Movie.
Although the movie doesn’t have much of a soundtrack, one scene (prior to the shrinking mishap) features Amy dancing to Nick Kamen’s “Turn It Up” while mopping up the kitchen.
Finally, the significance of this film is not just a matter of neighborly appreciation, but no matter what size you are, the great outdoors can be quite mysterious in the sense that you never know what you might encounter in your own backyard. In closing, even if you’re not sure what to think of this particular story, I’m positive you’ll have a scientific blast as I recommend this hugely entertaining movie to every sci-fi fan.
WARNING: this Disney movie may be too scary for younger children with one scene regarding an attack by a monstrous scorpion.

Researches of Rushton Toys
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who made Rushton dolls?
Welcome to my little site dedicated to Mary Rushton, creator of the Rushton toy company. After Mary's passing in 1984, she and her daughter Wight have continued to live through their toys, which have gained a cult following over the years.
What is the history of Rushton by Star Creations?
Rushton's Star Creation toy line were painted, rubber faced animals and dolls. They were made from the 1950's – 1960's. It was one of their most popular toy lines. The company continued to offer a range of products until its closure in approximately 1984.
Where did Rushton dolls come from?
The Rushton Company was actually an American company, started by an Atlanta woman and that lasted from 1917 to 1983, being passed down as a family company. If you go antiquing or flea shopping for fabulous vintage fashion, you are sure to come across some Rushton plushies in varying states of condition

“A pint? Have you gone raving mad? [...] I mean, I came here in all good faith, to help my country. I don't mind giving a reasonable amount, but a pint? Why, that's very nearly an armful!” (The Blood Donor - Hancock's Half Hour)
Born in Hall Green, Birmingham, on May12, 1924, Anthony John Hancock, was an high-profile English comedian and actor; best remembered perhaps as Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock, the character he played in his major success with the BBC, Hancock's Half Hour; (written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson), first broadcast on radio from 1954, then on television from 1956.
The show was so successful, Hancock became an enormous star in Britain. Where, unlike most other comedians at the time, he was able to clear the streets while families gathered together to listen to the eagerly awaited episodes. His break with Galton and Simpson in 1961 though, marked the start of his decline.
Speaking in 1989 of his relationship with Hancock, Spike Milligan said: "Very difficult man to get on with. He used to drink excessively. You felt sorry for him. He ended up on his own. I thought, he's got rid of everybody else, he's going to get rid of himself and he did."
Tony Hancock killed himself in Sydney, Australia, on June 25, 1968. He was found dead in his Bellevue Hill flat with an empty vodka bottle and a scattering of amylo-barbitone tablets.
In one of his suicide notes he wrote: "Things just seemed to go too wrong too many times."
His ashes were taken to England by satirist Willie Rushton, and buried in St Dunstan's Church in Cranford, London.

Hi I'm Roman. I'm a life long toy collector. My favorites include Sanrio, Sylvanian Families, Littlest Pet Shop, Monster High, Monchhichi, Rushton Star Creations, Edward Mobley, and creepy old dolls (ex: antique bisque dolls, Little Miss No Name, Bye-lo Babies). I like toys for nostalgia, but I also fw some contemporary toys. I'm currently kinda homeless so most of my collection is stored in someone's garage but I do have some on hand+ I go to a lot of 2nd hand stores so I will make original posts from time to time. I've been on Tumblr for a good half a decade on and off. I've had morute, tcc, and proana blogs b4 (it's in my past, don't judge lol) but this one is based mainly around toys bc that's my my longest lasting and currently most brain cell consuming special interests
