re: my thoughts on laios’s sexuality (long post ahead lol)

let me start this post with this. first, this contains a lot of references to the new adventurer’s bible world guide book released last february. i can read japanese, but i’m sure they’re translated somewhere. general spoiler warning in case. also… i am ESL, so sorry for any grammar errors

second, if you’re on the team that insists laios doesn’t care about humans enough to form relationships, either read the manga again or at the very least read this thread.

last, please don’t chime in with your acearo headcanons on this post. there’s already a majority of posts here that insist laios is acearo and that anything else is impossible. i don’t like it the same way i don’t like when someone declares they hc marcille as bisexual to a poster who reads her as lesbian. i already have enough people here who declare he’s ace on my own art. at least people on twitter of all places don’t do this sort of thing to me. nothing in this manga is canon, you can headcanon anything i won’t get mad if you hc him as bi or something. just. don’t be weird on my post.

okay. trust me, i love women, and i love the idea of making my favs women lovers but the idea of laios being gay really appeals to me because of his background. this isn’t fueled by yaoi since i don’t even ship the only m/m relationship i bring up here, i just think it adds a nice layer to his disconnect with his own humanity

i do think laios has a very abstract relationship with his sexuality for a multitude of reasons. he grew up in a very conservative backwater village. he has a hard time recognizing his own feelings towards others just as much as vice versa. i don’t really care for the “laios is a monsterfucker” agenda people are pushing but i do think he’d engage in sexual thoughts in his own weird way, i won’t deny his deviantart fetish shit

as an autistic person myself, i relate to how he’d prioritize his special interest over social interactions. after all, he was fixated on monster food so he’s distracted from dark thoughts. he’s not an actual glutton

he’s shy around women, but i don’t think it’s out of attraction. i just think it’s because he’s awkward and doesn’t want to be seen as a threat. there’s a couple of times when, out of armor, he deliberately tries to make himself look smaller and nonthreatening.

he didn’t show any interest towards ashivia (the hubby hunter girl marcille replaced) and just humored her because she wouldn’t leave him alone. his other party members thought he was giving her special treatment so he had to tell her he “doesnt want to give her special treatment anymore”(even though he never did), so she left

ashivia did her best to butter herself up to laios and he didn’t care, but laios thought shuro was his bestest friend in the whole world because he was too much of a pushover to reject him. ironically… what ashivia did to him parallels what he was doing to shuro

also… yeah sorry i keep bringing up that one comic of laios saying if he were falin he’d marry shuro and then begging him to take him back to his country, or that comic of laios wondering why he doesn’t like him(and then the first two questions he asks the magic mirror was what if he or shuro were women). i don’t even ship them! but it’s not a reach to assume that he likes men because of this, even if it’s kinda played like a joke(after all,a lot of people like chilshi even though their ‘shippy’ interaction was played as a joke)

of course, given the setting, i don’t think knows he’s gay, he wouldn’t have the vocabulary to label himself. i do want to dance around with the idea of him forcibly confronting his own sexuality after years of yaad pressuring him to produce heirs lol. laios might not be cishet but he’s a king so he rdgaf about that right now. i’m open to him having female consorts for political reasons, but i don’t think he’s into women, is all.

before anyone brings up his succubus… god forbid an author makes hetbait. a part of the plot twist was that not-marcille wasn’t the only succubus enticing laios, his other party members were copied too. she was the only one who approached him. also… succubi aren’t always inherently romantic. once it realized marcille didn’t work, it switched to appeal to his desire to be a monster.

I occasionally see takes about how Yuji isn’t interesting as a protagonist because of his lack of power compared to others, and honestly, in my opinion, that’s just… a really shallow reading of his character?

I’m gonna do my best keep this very vague and manga spoiler free for my best friend who hasn’t read the manga but likes Yuji!

Before I go on though, if you do disagree and don’t like or find Yuji interesting as a protagonist or character, please just scroll by. I’m only throwing my own personal thoughts out there. Thank you!

Yuji’s entire character is centred around the concept of death, which in itself is a change from typical shonen, at least the ones I’ve gotten into prior. His goal isn’t exactly to become the strongest and save everyone, as much as it is to become stronger than he is and save people from cruel deaths. He accepts death as a natural process of life, but what he hates are unjust and agonising deaths, or people who die before they even get the chance to live.

He’s a character who actively goes against his moral compass in times where he’s challenged. The main example of this is how he feels towards Mahito, where he could use the word exorcise, he uses the word kill, going against what he originally told Junpei.

“The next words that spilled from my lips came so deep within my guy that it nearly made all the things I’ve ever said feel like a lie. I will kill you!” Still gives me genuine chills from a character who feared the idea of killing becoming a option in his life.

He blames himself for everything that happens, and the worst part is, you can’t deny that. By eating Sukuna’s finger, he subsequently kickstarted everything. His guilt comes from something entirely true. So, even when he’s guilty for something he technically didn’t do, you can’t pull him out of that mindset, because to him, it’s just another byproduct of his biggest mistake.

Yuji’s development also tends to happen gradually and subtly, little shifts in his behaviours and mindsets that you may not pick up on if you aren’t paying enough attention to him. Then, he gets bigger moment for himself. Or he’s just traumatised some more. Usually both! Save him please!

And, you know, even when he’s sidelined per say, it’s clear, at least to me, Gege is cooking something up with him, and we see this happen a few times to my memory. JJK is a story that is told through multiple perspectives, even when it isn’t Yuji, that doesn’t suddenly make him less important. In the end, he’s still heavily linked with the current plot in ways that I imagine will have to be addressed if the story is to conclude properly.

What also makes Yuji interesting to me is the dehumanisation of his character and the question of humanity surrounding him. Humanity of course is a prevalent theme in JJK, and Yuji I think is a perfect example of it. Interestingly enough, he was seen as inhuman long before he joined Jujutsu High School, thanks to his impossible physical strength and speed, and then, when he joins Jujutsu High School, the dehumanisation continues. He doesn’t fit into either world. He’s somewhere between cursed object and human being and even he begins to lean more towards cursed object. The lines blur to him. This impacts his view on himself and what his life is even worth.

Another theme in JJK that Yuji reflects is that concept of saving people. We see it in characters like Gojo too. In Yuji’s case, by saving someone, he doomed everyone, and arguably he hasn’t been able to save anyone properly since. His grandad’s last words haunt him, and he’s interpreted them in a way that probably wasn’t intended. He tries to save others at the expense of himself, a vessel in two ways: for Sukuna (literal), and for others (metaphorical).

He’s just another cog in the machine, and while maybe a powerful, always-in-focus protagonist is more interesting to some, to me, I think Yuji is fine as he is, gaining power steadily and often being more subtle in his growth.

I could say so much more, and I will do in a more manga spoilery analysis. Eventually. Maybe. If I form words again.

Anyways. Look at him. Appreciate him. The biggest freak (affectionate) around. He probably has ADHD.

Rant(?) incoming I’m just gonna be talking about my fav boy and how much I hate his mischaracterization

But am extremely excited for the new season and maybe it’ll happen less cause I think a good chunk of the fan base probably just, view him differently from being anime only?

Hopefully lol (also manga and light novel spoiler warning!)

Excerpts from my priv twitter (but slightly altered to get my point across more):

Of all the bsd characters I think I could write the most about Ranpo and his characterization and how ppl completely fuck it up

Like- it’s hard to read a lot of fanfic with him cause they don’t portray him right? Like just the ‘UwU sweets loving boy who knows everything but is still oblivious’ OR ‘self centered arrogant man who acts too childish for his age and thinks he’s better than everyone’

LIKE NO‼️‼️

I know we haven’t really gotten to it in the anime yet but his whole thing is the fact HE DOESNT KNOW EVERYTHING- but he’s also aware that he knows a lot more than everyone else so people view him as this all-knowing unbeatable person when it’s simply not the case

Like, he puts himself on such a high pedestal cause he knows his family puts him on such a high pedestal, they expect him to be able to do everything and to know everything, and that’s why he fights so damn hard for the agency - he doesn’t want to let his family down

He’s always feels so isolated cause of it, and he’s so scared of messing up and he does mess up and it RUINS him

That arrogant front he puts is cause once your the best of the best there’s no where to go but down right? He keeps trying to prove himself and prove himself - he also doesn’t want to give anyone the idea of otherwise because he feels he has to be the one to keep everyone safe- if he shows weakness their enemies will find the loopholes and unfortunately for him that did happen

And yes he’s childish! He was literally sheltered from the entire world besides his also super genius parents for the first FOURTEEN YEARS of his life, he genuinely believed the world was out to get him and didn’t understand it once he was shoved into the outside world alone without the guidance of his now dead parents

They planned on raising him as a normal child to be a good person and not use his genius skills for bad, but they died early into the plan so he just, doesn’t know, doesn’t know any different

He thought everyone could see what he could and just refused to acknowledge it, and every time he would call something or someone out HE would be the one punished for it, it wasn’t till Fukuzawa came along and told him that he’s the only one to do that

AND, he knew to protect him at the time he told Ranpo his deduction skills were an ability, and Ranpo held onto that for protection, cause he refused to believe he was different for no reason, Fukuzawa knew he would be isolated from both normal people AND gifted people because of it

Please read the Untold Story of the Founding of the Detective Agency if you haven’t, it’s the third light novel and it’s about Fukuzawa’s and Ranpo’s meeting when Ranpo was only 14 years old and how Fukuzawa took Ranpo in and eventually created the Agency - it really helps you understand him more and why he is the way he is

Also! Once he discovered he is different, his first reaction wasn’t to use it for this benefit, his first reaction was “the people in the world are like infants, I understand now, the world isn’t cruel, it’s just stupid, and I need to protect them!” This has been his mindset since them, if no one else can see it, then he can and has to save them

It’s like having a pet and calling them stupid in an affectionate way whenever they do something dumb and taking care and nurturing them

Even if he’s not all that emotionally vulnerable and caring, he shows how much he cares through his actions - he’s different, he knows it, he states it like the fact it is, he brags as a manipulation tactic, but he still is a man who’s childhood was cut short, and grew up thinking murder is normal and a everyday casual thing, he loves praise and sweet things because he just simply does, he acts childish I believe as a way to keep a happy front and to stop others from worrying

“Alls well that’s well for me” he means it in the sense of, “if I’m happy, if I’m not worried about something, then no one else has to be, because I have the situation handled” and we see the opposite of this during the DOA arc, when he’s trying to outsmart fyodor and suddenly he gets dead serious - everyone is unsettled by it, they realize how serious the issue is

Idk guys I just, yes he’s a man child at times, yes he acts arrogant and self centered, yes he loves sweets and a lot of things children love but I hate it when people see it as his only traits

They don’t realize how deep his character is and how much he knows. His deduction isn’t just towards mysteries, he can read people in an instant, figure out their life story and more

He may not be a manipulation expert like Dazai but I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves in his other skills and how just, aware he is of everything happening around him - and how normal he tries to perceive himself and live his life in other non serious situations

And people don’t tend to realize how much he cares for everyone, all the innocent people in the world, and especially the agency who is family to him - he’s sacrificed himself on more than one account to protect them

He also puts his trust in the world even though he knows not everyone is as smart as him, because he knows he doesn’t know everything like when he did the press conference to prove the agency innocent

And you can see how relieved he is when some of them do, even if there’s a book that change reality to point all fingers at him

Anyway yea, I sincerely hope with the fourth season (and praying they animate the untold origins for the first couple eps like they did with the other light novels) more people will appreciate Ranpo, and the true Ranpo and not just some simple aspects of his character traits

YES!! the whole "i will remember you.." HAS ME FUCKED UP like. there's a few ways it could be interpreted but it gives me the same feeling as when you 'love' someone so much, you honour or cherish the memory of them forever.. AHHHHHH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

Art style and breaks are on two different spectrums. Complaining about him taking breaks is the biggest NO from me. like PLEASE let Gege release a chapter a month. Every single week is WAY too much for a mangaka - there's only so much a person can do within 6 days :// From a pure quality and marketing standpoint it'll allow him to : process his OWN thoughts, more detailed drawings and (longer) chapters, perhaps even formulate a proper plan for the manga, and the hype will be bigger as well. Especially right now where it is getting criticism and being called repetitive - there is less hype because everyone knows they'll get answers in the next week. But most importantly REST. he is not a machine and you are very right about that!!

< The video: Early afternoon that day. In the Common Room at Dancing Cranes Home. >

Arashi: [ Once upon a time, there lived a Princess with a very beautiful heart.

Of course, she was not only beautiful on the inside, but in her outward appearance too,… … and the name of this Princess was Narukami Arashi. ]

Arashi: [ However, there was someone who did not like the Princess at all. That person was the Queen of the country, who had a beautiful appearance but possessed an ugly and twisted heart.

—Hmm? The Queen’s name? Well, for now, let’s call her Madara ♪

And although the Queen was the stepmother of the beautiful Princess, there was no familial love between them—

—because the black-hearted Queen was wildly jealous of her step-daughter’s great beauty.

Today, as she always did, the Queen asked of her magic mirror which only reflects the truth—

“Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”

—Eh? You’re saying that would be Narukami Arashi?

Grrr~! So infuriating! If only that person weren’t here, I would surely be the most beautiful in the whole wide world! ]

Arashi: [ That’s it, I should get rid of that beautiful Narukami Arashi! Then, I will be the most beautiful person in the world! MA~MAMAMAMAMA! (1) (Laughter) ]

Tsumugi: What an interesting story! It’s full of openings for a straight man (2) to interact with!

Natsume: SeriousLY? How can you lie to the children like thIS? What’s this about the Princess’ name being Narukami Arashi?

Arashi: Hmph! That’s fine, isn’t it! Fairy tales are for living your dreams, aren’t they! I want to be a Princess too!

Natsume: WeLL, I do understand how you feEL, but won’t the children be confused to hear you’re playing the Princess roLE?

Arashi: Hold on! Why would that result in any confusion, is there a law that says a Princess must be female?! What does it matter anyway; fairy tales are fantasies, after all!

Madara: Urm. By the way, why am I laughing like that humongous character in One P*ece (1)? That’s a reeeally strange character to be portraying me as, isn’t it?

Arashi: Fufu! While I was reading the manga, the thought, “Ah, this person is just like Mama” went through my mind!

Madara: All the same, I’m not that huge either, am I?

Arashi: Ohh seriously, that’s enough. Stop interrupting and watch quietly!

Arashi: Erm, actually... One of the reasons I’m showing you guys this segment of the video was because I wanted to showcase how especially charming I was as I read the picture book to the children. However—

—There’s another reason as to why I want you to see this.

Somehow, as I was reading the picture book to the children, some of them had very strange reactions to the story… …

Madara: Huh? Strange reactions—?

Arashi: Yes. I mentioned encountering an “unusual incident” earlier, didn’t I?

By the way, you might have already guessed it by now, but the title of the fairy tale I was reading to the children was “Snow White”.

There were a few pages missing in the picture book for some reason, so I improvised by doing up a few sketches and adding them in.

Look, this scene in particular is my favourite—

The scene where Narukami Arashi, with the seven cute dwarves—Sorry, I mean the four foolish Knights—repel the assassins dispatched by the evil Queen together ♪

Natsume: That’s amaziNG. You’re casually altering the plot of the story as you pleaSE.

Madara: Er, how can you just get rid of the assassins sooo easily? The story would just end there, wouldn't it?

Arashi: That doesn’t matter~, the ending’s the only part that needs to make sense in the end—No, in fact all will be well as long as the story ends well.

Most people will be satisfied as long as the story ends with—”And they all lived happily ever after.”

Tsumugi: Indeed. That much is true.

Madara: But then, what about the strange reactions you mentioned the children having earlier? Right now, the only thing I find odd is how they’re able to listen to this story so attentively to the very end, though?

Arashi: That’s what’s coming up next. See, it’s the last scene of the most beautiful Princess in the world, Narukami Arashi’s—or rather Snow White’s—story now. It seems this picture book is pretty faithful to the original, truly scary “dark fairy tales” because—

The Princess made the Queen dance on a scorching hot iron plate as revenge for all the terrible things she had done.

It’s meant to be a satisfying scene where good triumphs over evil, and the evil villain gets their just desserts, right?

Arashi: However, as I was enthusiastically reading that scene out loud, several of the children started crying—

—and they definitely weren't tears of joy.

Arashi: They weren’t quietly sobbing either. They started shrieking loudly all of a sudden, as if possessed by demons, or evil spirits—

Some of the children even started throwing up uncontrollably.

I was at a total loss for what to do—I almost started crying myself.

Fortunately, one of the staff came hurrying over right away and soothed the agitated children, calming them down.

Natsume: OhHH? How impressiVE. I guess that’s a genuine professional childcare worker for yOU.

Tsumugi: Hmm~. Getting children to stop crying once they start is no easy task, though… …

Arashi: No. The children’s crying stopped instantly. It seemed as if a magic spell had been cast on them.

Natsume: … … Could it be the children were administered an inhalant sedatiVE?

Arashi: No, it didn’t seem like that at all.

Looking back on it now, the method of it was really baffling, though… …

That staff worker simply went around whispering something into the children’s ears, but they recovered and stopped crying immediately.

What was that all about, I wonder? With everything that’s happened, and now, the children’s strange reactions—there’s definitely something odd going on here.

Madara: Hmmm… … Can I just ask—were all the children in the room crying at the same time when the tears started?

Arashi: Why are you asking about that? If I think back on it though, among the children… … I recall it seemed to be the older kids who started crying first—?

Up until that moment, they had been behaving very maturely, in a manner way beyond their years, which was why their reaction came as such a sudden shock to me.

The younger ones must’ve felt the same way too, and started to panic and cry themselves when they saw the older children cry—

—And they were the ones who continued crying for a long time after, for some reason.

Madara: Hmmm. I see. A great deal is starting to fall into place nowww.

Tsumugi: Oh my… …? Do you have any idea about what transpired during that strange event, Mikejima-kun?

Madara: Well, there’re some things which seem reeeally odd to me, which is why I’m just inquiring casually about them.

I’ll start looking into the situation more closely tomorrow, taking into account what I’ve heard from Arashi-san.

Indeed. This is only just a ‘hunch’ of mine, but—

—there’s a possibility an unbelievably tragic incident or accident might have taken place in the history of that Dancing Cranes Home.

so i got inspiration from a tiktok trend and literally wrote this in like 30 minutes before class so please forgive any mistakes, i read through it a couple times but might’ve missed something!

also i’m terrible at formatting, still working on it. so forgive if it’s bad 🙇🏼‍♀️ also spoilers ahead !! i tried to steer clear of manga stuff but definitely anime spoilers ahead so be careful !!

They knock him down, he gets back up. they kill his friends, he gets back up. they take away his innocence, he gets back up.

he doesn’t just get up because of the fact that he’s the only one who can suppress Sukuna and do what he does, what his body was crafted for since before he was born. his simple purpose to hold back the pure spirit of evil itself. but also because if he let himself fall, if he let himself give up. everything, everyone, it means nothing. it’s in vain.

Yuuji feels solely responsible for EVERYTHING that has happened thus far, in the manga in the anime, even if it’s not something he out right says, it’s something he feels.

he feels responsible, he feels the crushing weight of guilt that holds him hostage. and instead of it chaining him to the ground,

it chains him to the sky.

forcing him to stand even when his legs shake and his lungs can’t take in enough air. he stands and he fights, he fights for his friends, his family, and for every innocent person who has seen destruction because of

‘him’.

it’s not the fact that everyone outside of him expects him to get up and keep getting up, it’s also cause he expects it from himself too.

he has to, or else he’s just as bad as

‘him’.

Megumi has been carefully crafting a persona since he was very young.

knowing nothing but disdain and a distinct lack of care when it comes from the people who it really shouldn’t be.

he has crafted himself to be strong, to be independent, to never want, to never need. to drive those away who even think about wanting to help, to force their hand and their irritation. to push them so far they get lost on the way back.

his perfectly crafted indifference has saved him from the heartbreak that he keeps deep below the surface of his scarred skin.

his entire story started with heartache, with the death of his mother. the abandonment of his father. being sold to a clan that would treat him as nothing more than a pawn in this twisted game of chess. when his sister, his only lifeline to the kindness the world has tried to shove under, went into a coma. when his supposed caretaker, who through no fault of his own, doesn’t know how to raise a child. barely knew how to raise himself.

When the one friend he even thought of letting in has his literal heart ripped out in front of him.

a small part of her hates them, hates them for being better so effortlessly.

hates megumi for his indifference and disdain, for his seeming lack of interest in a field she has committed to dedicating her entire life too.

something she chose, something she pursued through her own sweat, blood and tears. to be booted out so quickly by two who were forced into the world, who never had the choice. it made her sick, the hot resentment clawing at her throat as she choked out another shrill insult and shoved another paper bag into a callused hand.

in the end, the resentment bleed out on the cold tile of the train station as she remembered the good, remembered her friends for one last time.

About the tags on your last post: please can we talk about s3 and how it’s had like, so much potential and how the last two villains of wakfu, nox and Qilby were so cool and bad ass and well written and OROPO IS JUST,,,, STRAIGHT? Like Oropo’s thing is kill god and get into a weird love triangle with god and god’s crush? Idk, I wanna hear your opinions on s3!

// Major s3 spoilers and for the entire series, massive infodump, apologies in advance 🤡

Season 3 had a lot of potential. It had a good idea and terrible execution. I’m not saying Wakfu doesn’t have its flaws but S3 makes me so sad. Oropo could have been set up to be this big reveal of the final major Villain- but there wasn’t enough set up, and the pay off was just disappointing. Hopefully the Oropo OVA will fix some of the problems, the biggest to me being how underdeveloped the characters were, unlike first two seasons which biggest complaints were that there was too much filler, season three has none. Which is good but now it feels like it was more rushed rushed, anyone who doesn’t read the mangas doesn’t understand the history of the brotherhood of the forgotten and won’t be as attached or feel for their characters as much. (This might be me but a little filler of getting to know these characters more would have helped)

Another thing was Adamai and Amalia. Like, what did they do to them?? 😭 They felt so out of character, Adamaï has been gone for three years, revealed to be convinced by Oropo to join him reappears, has a bizzare appearance (I think because maybe the eliatrope dofus? Which I’m saying had the effect on his personality as well-) working for the main antagonist, and that would have been OKAY if they showed how he became that way, because he just shows up in first two eps and then is kind of just, in the background until the finale. And that makes me mad because they could have had this good charecter arc and story for him about feeling like he lives in Yugo’s shadow, because my dude lived on an island in isolation from twelvians for 12 years, then his brother shows up, and the person he’s considered a father dies shortly after. They rush to save the world, fails and then time is rewound-

And you can see Adamaï’s frustrations, because he wants to find their people, because he cares and because he wants to complete the mission Grugaloragram told him he would do. He is still a child, with all these thoughts and a need to complete his goal. And unintentionally in doing so releases a madman who manipulates them and almost destroys the world. The one he looked up to, the one who he thought would help him betrays his trust, the one who would help him find said people. And they could have expanded on the theme of being left behind by Yugo again while he goes to adventure. It’s not intentional, but it makes him feel like he doesn’t matter, like he is only his twins shadow. And for a child who is 12, only had ever been on his island, a few other places with barely any contact and is now in Sadida, without the brother he needs to help him he probably does have feelings of resentment. And Qilby uses this to deceive him into leaving, not realizing his true intentions before it’s to late.

There could have been this story, one that made more sense to why he left, after not being heard and ”left behind” by Yugo once again he went with Echo, this person who was correct, a figure of someone to rely on, .the one who gave him this new path like Qilby did to help their people and achieve his goals. He does feel betrayed, that Yugo would chose his friend over him. Dragons are emotional creatures. And Echo (later likely Oropo) uses this fact to get him to join their cause. Oropo knows this, and he knows all too well how it feels to live inside someone else’s shadow. To feel like a copy, a fake. And it’s just HSJSJSH

They say Oropo is this god, a genius, a good person who convinced them all (manipulated them all) into joining him. For his cause. And I wish they would have shown that, because they don’t show it in the series, some only in the manga which most ENG fans can’t read as it’s not translated. I wish they would have shown no just why but HOW they joined. Maybe through each level the BoT find out how the demigods joined Oropo, how he found them. How they were convinced. At the beginning we do see some of his manipulation, going into the BoT minds and revealing their darkest deserts and guilty fears. He gives these people, lost, angry, alone and confused a place of peace. To fight for something bigger then themselves, to achieve their own goals. Adamai himself doesn’t even seem convinced this plan will work, often doubting Oropo to his face. Oropo has this hidden agenda and overarching plan and I think because it’s just revealed all last minute in such a rushed and badly written way that it was so disappointing.

There was also the potential after he absorbed Yugo, giving him power to fight all these demi gods, to become god. (Still mad that they were all mostly out of commission for the whole fight, it would have been a cool scene to have them fight and get beaten down one by one by the one they believed in, that would have been a great way to show as Oropo slowly feels guilt, remembering all the times he had with them, that they were his family, and how he lost sight of his original goals and thousands of years went on, no even realizing what a hypocrite he had become, blind to his own rage, trauma and jealousy of living in someone else’s shadow.)

He has all of his memories, he knows Yugo’s desires, the one to find and give a home to his people, to reconcile with Adamai, etc etc. Instead of him just fighting Qilby and Nox and talking with younger Adamai it could have been this entire trip of Yugo fighting in Oropo’s mind, and his own memories. The fight with Nox, and Qilby- the trauma he gained. Yelling at things he knows deep down are fake. The burden of being a child, now a king with all these orphaned kids waiting on him to rule them. For him to give them a home. Adamai leaving him, those long three years of searching, wondering where he gone, the pain of his other half never returning.

Also the guilt of Nox’s death and Qilby being trapped, which he clearly shows much guilt of, knowing he could’t find a better solution. And if they really wanted to go all out, the guilt of the world being destroyed by the astroids he caused to fall. They showed it in the OVA but everyone seemed fine, I know they probably wouldn’t but they set it up like this would have more reprocrussions but eveyone is fine? And the fact he didn’t realize he created the Eliotropes. He didn’t know and didn’t mean to, unintentionally giving life to all these children who were forced to wonder the world hidden without a cause. Because his biggest desire deep down, was to find his people and give them a home.

And Oropo could have used this. Breaking him down in his mind of all the people he hurt unintentionally, the guilt of Nox’s death and Qilby being locked away, Adamai leaving and the fear of outliving all his loved ones. And most importantly, his desire for the eliatrope people. They mentioned it near the end as he was escaping but the “I know the pressure on your shoulders better than anyone else, let me take over and rule the eliatrope people.” Always stuck out to me, like he did with Adamai, and all those Demi gods he would try to play to his feelings. “I can help you give them a home.” The pressure of being only a child learning this and the scrutiny from twelve after Qilby made it worse for them. The guilt of all those poor orphan children, no parents all on their own, wasting away everyday. Why did you take so long? Why aren’t you trying to look, living life peacefully and then searching for your brother. Every year is a million to them. And they are all waiting on you. To convince him to give in, to join him completely so they can achieve their goals. Coming to Yugo as this becon of light after all these curls memories showed no mercy ripping him apart.

Oropo could have genuinely been this amazing finale of a villain, if he was written better and not as this hypocrite who was immediately betrayed by his followers after his intentions were revealed (dude knew they wouldn’t agree, and still acts so surprised when they are all outraged at him) and blaming all his problems and the horrors he’s committed on Yugo since they are the same, which again could have worked but instead it just came off as rushed and poorly put together. He could have been another amazing foil, of how far you will go to save/help/avenge/find your family. Nox being the most obvious with his, Qilby having those themes of his people and not being alone with his desires- And Oropo with the loss of all his kind, being the only one left, and though he started off with good intentions, slowly became the person he talked about hating. Loss after lisos slowly not caring who he went through or what sacrifice he made to achieve his goals. He wants to start it all anew, replace the people he felt betrayed by. And considering he has Yugo’s memories and feelings, has the same desire of finding the eliatrope children a home.

There’s a lot more (looks over at Amalia because holy shit they did her so dirty) things but I don’t want to write any more than I have 😭 but Season 3 could have been this really good ending point that felt rushed and butchered and had a completely different tone (which is fine) but it just didn’t feel the same. I think it’s likely because Netflix took over, because some of the writers on s3 clearly didn’t watch the show?? And Amalia being like “I know your a man deep inside.” Or “I don’t need you.” (If you know what scene I’m talking about you know) and it’s so frustrating. It had this good idea and potential and just rushed and terrible execution that makes me so sad.

Anyway TLDR: Netflix ruined s3 Wakfu, Amalia and Adamai aren’t even the same characters and Oropo had all this potential to be this grand foil for Yugo and failed miserably. Might make a pt 2.

I apologize if this is controversial or ignorant.

Perhaps this is all biased, unsure at this point. I never liked how Jean and Mikasa end up together, the whole ending threw me off to he honest.

Although it was a safe option as Jean was in love with her, I still find it odd how they made Mikasa end up with someone. I enjoyed her dynamic with Eren, I liked how much she loved him, but that doesn’t mean I wished it would be endgame.

I believe Mikasa should have not married anyone, the way I feel this way is because the whole issue with her character was how much she cared for Eren. It was like she needed a person to complete her, she felt like she could never be alone.

Ending it off with her being alone, with her friends, and no one to constantly validate her would have been better. Although that seems sad, maybe even upsetting, I do get it. I don’t wish for anyone to live their lives alone, but I do think it would help with her character development.

She outgrew the way she needed someone in her life, someone she loves so much she would throw away her own life for them.

I do understand that she probably outgrew that when she made the choice to kill Eren, but then she turned to Jean and I don’t think it made sense.

She does care for Jean, she cares for so many people. I just believe that people have to understand that caring for someone doesn’t mean that you’re in love with them. As for Jean, yes he did love her, but I still felt sorry for him at times.

I’m not saying Mikasa doesn’t love Jean, especially seeing how the manga ended, but It feels so weird to me. She finally let go of the one person she loved so much that she would sacrifice everything just for them to only move on to another man?

And Jean’s love for her was never touched on that much, she never acknowledged it. I believe they’re both characters who should have let go of their childhood, people who let go of the ones they were in love with to progress with their lives.

And for the ending, I didn’t like it. It’s mixed for me though, I just found it kind of boring and weird. Attack on Titan is not something I assumed would have a happy ending. Maybe if the main character was alive, sure. With Eren being dead it makes the ending a lot weirder. I believe it would have been a more impactful ending if everyone died during the rumbling, you may disagree with this but I find it most suitable.

I don’t think it made sense how everyone was forced to live out their lives so normally, I don’t care how many years passed, you can’t simply forget and go through the trauma of your best friend destroying the whole world? That’s bizarre and unrealistic. Having to deal with the burden of all the people that died on the same earth they now step on.

The story should have ended with a new generation of people, ones created by the few who did survive, or maybe even an Earth without humans or titans. I think it would have been cool, a whole restart to Earth and mankind.

What makes Asian BL better than western MLM stories? I don't mean to talk negatively but i want to read your opinion about it (because I love reading your writings)....

Before I watched Asian BL, I already read books and watch movies or series that contains MLM, but it just hit differently somehow (I don't know how to express what I mean).....

Most of otps that I love from western series or movies are bromance or male best friends that I love the chemistry, and for series that have canon MLM couple, I don't really ship them, not like in Asian BL...(I dont know why, maybe you have an idea ir two, why is that)....

Oh, do you mind if I gave you books recommendations? They are not long at all and a quick reading (especially since you are a fast reader), have you read "All For The Game" trilogy by Nora Sakavic or "Captive Prince" by trilogy by C.S.Pacat (the author said herself, that she was inspired by BL manga when wrote this books, and I think you will love them) ? Those are my top favorite MLM books....

I would say at a general guess (looking at my old Goodreads account) I've read about 1000 mm romances. (before you get mad I’d say about 300 ff, 400 alt queer of soem kind, and way way way more than that het). And that’s just romance. I used to average between 300-500 books a year. And yes, I’m a speed reader. And yes, I retain very very little of it.

So yeah.

I don't read them much anymore. Most mm went into KU over the last 4 years and I don't play that game. Plus I'd rather watch and talk about BL these days than read anything I’m not obligated to for work.

Sorry but I loathed Pacat's Captive Prince. Just like Red, White & Royal Blue a few years later it was as if everyone suddenly felt compelled to read and "discover" mm with that series and I DO NOT GET THE APPEAL. I come originally out of SFF and the world building was so poor, the Ds dynamic was unresolved and lacklustre (possibly because it was seme/uke, which now knowing might make it more palatable to me but, shrug, too late), the writing quality was not great, and I disliked most of the characters. Honestly, it reminded me of 1980s Sharon Green or Joanna Lindsey, just profoundly dated in its sensibility and clumsy with its trope execution. Like it was written by someone who had read very little romance or fantasy, but maybe a few 1970s pirate rape books.

And you thought I could only get this mean about Mame!

I think Pacat is like KinnPorsche, the people who like it are obsessed and the rest of us are like... but there's so much better stuff out there, why don't you... no? Okay then. Just, please stop talking about it?

You set down the book and wrapped your arms around Kuroo, the golden sun making his hair look even darker somehow. "Not too tired to go get food, right?"

"Oh, of course not. Just... leave me here for a moment, okay?" He cuddled more onto your lap with a smile on his lips.

You just picked up your book and continued to read, subconsciously running your available hand through Kuroo's jet black hair.

You got a few chapters in before realizing something was off.

"Kuroo?" You poked him with your bookmark and no response. "Kuroo, babe, are you okay?"

You cupped both sides of his face to find him fast asleep on your lap with the biggest smile on his face.

"I thought you said you weren't too tired to get food." You whispered softly, placing a little kiss on his lips before getting him in a more comfortable position to resume your reading.

He would be up soon, but for now just leave him be.

Death Note, meet Supernatural- CHAPTER 7

Relationships: L (Death Note)/Reader, L (Death Note)/Original Female Character(s)

Summary: What if Death Note existed in a world with Winchesters in it? Would L finally have the evidence he needs to prove Light is Kira? How will L fare in a world where monsters are real and not every case is solvable by him? Lucky for him, there's a hunter here to work side-by-side with him.

Chapter Summary: L and Reader make an agreement of sorts in this- read on to find out!

CHAPTER 6

Chapter 7: Building Bridges

Boredom. That’s the only word for it. The files are very detailed and I’ve decided to go in chronological order. At least my usual cases had a good old juicy murder or suicide story. These are just facts and hypotheses with a bunch of jargon. To cover everything, I’ve decided to go chronologically which means the initial stuff is mind-numbing as hell. Once I get to only the current task force’s investigation, it should get better.

Aha, the pictures of Kira’s puppets, let’s see what they’ve got. A pentagram in a circle? Was the poor dude hoping for protection? If yes, then what from? If he knew who, or what Kira was, then why didn’t he say so? I take a screenshot to look at it later.

The next 3 photos are just a bunch of text- poetry, badly written. Why would Kira make his victims write poetry in their last seconds? There’s definitely a hidden message in there.

A fearful ode to Kira, not likely. Hmm…first letter of every word? …Nope, doesn’t set. Let’s reverse. Nada. First letter of every line? Nuh-uh. Reverse again. Bingo! Ldoyouknow

I pick up the next 2 photos and decipher them quickly.

L do you know shinigami only eat apples (A/N: The photos says reapers cause they're from manga but I'm following the show and it says shinigami there- so please bear with me)

Shinigami? What’s this? Sounds like my thing.

A simple search on my personal laptop (with internet access, suck it L) paints one picture- Japanese Spirits of Death.

The lore says that Shinigami only take people who are already close to death, but not all of these criminals can be close to death at the same time suddenly. Did someone grow a pair and get a Shinigami on a leash? How? By giving them apples? That also doesn’t explain the heart attacks. Shinigami make people commit suicide so what’s with this new MO? And where do the names and faces fit in? If a Shinigami wanted to kill someone, they just got to possess the person. Kira is not a Shinigami then, but someone who is using a Shinigami in some way at least. This is dangerous. As a rule, reapers or gods or spirits of death are invisible to everyone save those who die- or those who bind them. No EMF or cameras will catch anything. Should I summon Death? He could have jurisdiction over Shinigami too since he’s the literal anthropomorphic representation of death. If he finds out one of his own is fucking around or bound, he could deal with this on his own. But wouldn’t he know already? And he hasn’t done anything which means he’s not interested or whatever’s happening is not wrong- atleast not according to him. Calling him is risky as I have no backup and if he feels I’m wasting his time, he could very well arrange my death. Perhaps later, as a last option with a delicious pizza offering.

Anyway, I shouldn’t rule out the possibility that this could just be to throw L for a loop. He has disregarded this as nonsense but still. Let’s file this for later. The envelope. Penber dying. If Light is Kira, he has a Shinigami chained up somewhere. The footage from the households is next. I first check the Yagami tapes, and it is just as L said. Light is too straight and narrow. It seems practiced, and intentional. He is not as relaxed as a teenager should be at home but seems to be putting on a play. Another thing, he’s talking to himself while doing homework. Now whatever they show you on movies and TVs, nobody talks to themselves out loud about their day or what they’re doing. I’ve watched more houses and even more people than you can count. Just doesn’t happen, nope. The fact that Light is doing it means he wants somebody to listen. The messages would mean nothing to the police watching the cams, which means it’s for someone else. Someone invisible to us. Shinigami again? Congrats Light, you’re top suspect once again, though it’s apparent by the handcuffs that he never made it off L’s list. I watch all of his footage but there’s nothing except this gut instinct that Light is not right .

To be on the safe side, I watch the Kitamura tapes carefully too. They’re normal in the way normal people are- cleared immediately. The Sakura TV incident is next and on comes the tape L made me watch. After that, there are 2 tapes- yes and no. This must be for the police’s decision to join or stand against Kira. There’s truly nothing useful in them, what a waste. The response of Second Kira to Light’s tape was interesting. Verify each other’s identity by showing each other their Shinigami? Kira doesn’t have eyes? Hm…there is a Shinigami after all. I need to dig deeper but before that, I listen to all Second Kira tapes for any other clues. There’s nothing in the tapes but the diary entry from last year has that word, Shinigami, again. At a match- it could be possible to blend in with so many people but could they be so stupid as to be so obvious? Hang on, the Second Kira sent a message on the 23rd saying they’d found Kira. This means the entries before it, probably the one of the 22nd, is the correct one.

Met with friend in Aoyama and exhanged notes.

What does this mean? What’s the clue that only Light could understand that made him volunteer to go to Aoyama? It sure as hell isn’t a coincidence. If Misa is the Second Kira, she must have set sights on Light at some point. The CCTV footage didn’t show Misa anywhere so she was either invisible, in disguise, or was watching the cameras. This means she would’ve seen something about Light- something only meaningful to her or something invisible. Shinigami. Maybe I’m getting tunnel vision but the possibility of this being right is too high. Shinigami has already been mentioned thrice, once by Kira and twice by the Second Kira in the tape and diary entry. L mentioned they’d been acting strange during the investigation, let’s check out that footage. L wasn’t joking around when he confined Misa. She’s strapped to her chair like she’s a deadly, vicious killer and not a dumb blonde. Is she a deadly, vicious killer? She’s surprisingly tight-lipped too. Normally it’s a challenge to shut her up. She’s protecting someone, her beloved Light maybe? She suddenly starts crying on the screen to kill her. 5 minutes after this, she passes out. When she comes to, it’s like she’s the dumb blonde again. Something happened when she passed out. Was the spirit of a Shinigami possessing her? And it left her when it realized the girl was useless now- begging for death. If so, why didn’t the Shinigami just kill her? It’s not like there’s any lost love. Light’s confinement is the same way except he isn’t bound. He’s still all serious and silent though, despairing that he’s Kira. About 2 weeks later, he changes his tune saying he isn’t Kira. Begs to be let out. Why is he contradicting his earlier statements? Shinigami spirit left him too when it figured that Light would be useless under 24*7 surveillance? Question is- were Light and Misa aware they were possessed? Are they like Jeffrey? The guy wanted the demon in him, did these guys want the Shinigamis? Figuring I wouldn’t get anything more from the data, I put the laptop aside and start my own research on how the hell is Shinigami connected to Kira.

Stretching my back, I meet eyes with Ryuzaki. God knows how long he has been staring at me. The intensity of his gaze makes me believe he wants to actually read my mind. The genius he is, he probably reads me more than I know. Not wanting to hide, I lock my laptop and boldly walk over to him. The best plan of action is honesty here- partial honesty, cause there’s no way in hell he wouldn’t admit to the psych ward if I said I wanted to investigate the Japanese Gods of Death.

“Can I have a word in private, Ryuzaki? Just you and me”, I whisper. The staring continues for a moment until he uncuffs himself from Light, gets up to walk out of the room with a quick, “follow me”.

He takes us 2 floors up to an exact replica of the command center down there, only smaller. “This is Watari’s office, the only other room besides mine and the control center that isn’t under surveillance. Based on the tone of your request, I assume you don’t want the other team members to know of it.” At my nod, he sits in his usual position on a chair. “Speak.” “The following questions and requests might seem weird but consider them the most important. Now tell me, what is it about Light and Misa that makes you sure that they are- or were- doing the murders?” “The clues-”

“Forget the clues for a damn minute. What does your gut tell you? Why do you feel that they’re murderers?” After silence stretches for a while, L says in a quiet voice, “His eyes. They had an evil glint to them. His expression. Always perfect. Always what I would expect. It looked manufactured, not real. His intelligence. He could do those murders and get away with it. From the first time I laid my eyes on him, a part of me has always been sure that he is Kira. As for Misa, my interactions with her aren’t frequent. She was apprehended as soon as her DNA was found on those packages. Apart from her mind turning quickly that one time, there’s nothing weird I’ve noticed about her. There is one thing I neglected to mention about her though. Misa’s parents were killed by a burglar in her presence. The suspect walked free due to insufficient evidence. Kira killed them. She adores Kira for that. She also adores Light. Which means she could be the second Kira if Kira was Light.”

“Misa isn’t the chief concern here- but we will have to be careful with her. I’m going to say something, Ryuzaki, and you’re not going to like it. The worst thing you could’ve done is make Light a part of the task force and then keep Misa around. If Misa is the second Kira who can kill by just knowing the face, you’ll be instantly dead when her power gets back to her. And you’re only safe from Light as long as he doesn't know your name.” “You’re sure that he is Kira then?” I’m quick to deny it because I do not know for sure. Another thing I’ve learned in my world is half of the time, the unexpected guy is the killer. For all I know, it could be Matsui. “Then why didn’t you say “if”? You said that I’m only safe from Light as long as he doesn’t know my name. You didn’t say “if he is Kira”.”

“Slip of tongue,” I’m quick to lie. Truth is, with L’s conviction, I have strong doubts about Light as well.

“Nevermind that Ryuzaki. Now focus. In a day or two, I’ll show up with some “ order from headquarters ” that will get civilians off the investigation. The control isn’t in your hands anymore; some unknown FBI department is taking over the reins.” “That way you can get rid of Light and Misa without making it seem that we are still suspicious of them,” L ponders.

“Bingo. You’re number 1 on Kira’s hitlist, Watari is probably number 2 based on how close you two are. If those 2 are Kiras, we have to make it seem as if you’re not a threat anymore.”

Truth is, I’m not sure this is what Sam and Dean would’ve done. But they’re not here and the decision falls to me, so I’m going to roll with this.

“Reasonable. But I do not want Light off the investigation. He is intelligent and on the chance that he is not Kira, his help will be crucial. And if he is Kira, I want to keep an eye on Misa and him.”

I let loose a disbelieving laugh. “Listen sugar cube, you do not know how much danger you’re in. I’ve almost identified Kira’s source of power and it is not something you can control. Not a criminal you can lock up or keep an eye on . This is beyond your reach. Not an insult or a doubt on your abilities, just the truth. I want to keep you guys safe. You and Watari will die in this investigation if we don’t cut off Light and Misa right now. They know about your every move and can counter it. If the Chief is leaking the information, even unknowingly, I’ll come up with a way to replace him too. The entire task force, if necessary.”

“What are you so afraid Kira will find out?” “The investigation details, dumbass. What else?”

L’s stare grows even more piercing if possible, his head cocked to the side. Adorable. “No, that’s not it. You’ve been on edge the whole time you’ve been here. You appear sad too; sadder than a normal human. Something is bothering you. The whole time you’ve been convincing me, you’ve had a desperate energy about you. You also keep fidgeting. For anyone else, I would say they weren’t just cut out for this, but you are. Your hands, your stance is of a fighter. You will push away your discomfort by squaring your shoulders and tilting your chin up. You are brave, and experienced too. Then what is it about this investigation that has you on edge?”

The guy learns more than he lets on. For the first time, I realise that L is not just a cute little weirdo. L is the number 1 detective in the world and I need to stay on guard around him or he could very easily figure out what a vault of secrets I am. At the moment though, I want to answer his questions honestly. It’s been so long since somebody has taken the time to really see me. Neglect is getting to me. I’m also in need of some desperate human comfort. What would being hugged by L feel like…L would be such a great cuddle partner…who is still looking at me expectantly.

“You’re right, L. I’m not afraid of Kira finding anything out, except your and Watari’s real names. I am on edge because this is dangerous. And I have no one. My team- we were 5 people. Now it’s just me. This is the first time I’ve taken on something so big without them. I’m scared that I won’t be enough, that I’ll mess up. That’s why I was being pushy earlier because I want to make sure you’re safe in case things go south. The lead I’m working on- if Kira finds out…it wouldn’t be pretty. If there’s even a chance that Light and Misa are the Kiras, we need them off the investigation. I’m alone, and the danger this entails…I’m worried I won’t be enough to handle it.”

L’s eyes have predictably stayed on my face the whole time I’ve talked. Now that I’ve made the confession, sweat is breaking out on my back. The air feels hotter, draining me of my energy. I want to take my words back. The longer L stares, the bigger the urge to crawl into a hole and die. Stupid word vomit. I wanted to earn his respect and view me as an equal, now he’ll just see a scared, incompetent girl who doesn’t feel up for a challenge.

“It doesn’t seem like you will mess things up. Your level of concern shows you will take the utmost care with this investigation. I am…glad of this.” I feel warm again but this warmth is very much welcome. To prevent word vomit again, I stay silent and just give L a grateful smile, seeing which he continues.

“I will agree to your plan of taking Light and Misa off the investigation- but they will remain under surveillance. You can say that all the previous suspects must remain under surveillance as a precautionary measure- orders from headquarters .”

“Okay, we can make that work.”

“That’s not all. This lead you’re investigating- I want to investigate it with you.”

Yeah, right.

“No way in hell, L. It isn’t your thing.”

“Then you don’t investigate it either. You said so yourself, you feel alone. You’re used to working with your team. We can work together on your lead. And don’t forget your promise from yesterday. You di agree you wouldn’t make any moves for the first few days without consulting me. Besides, I am the world’s number 1 detective. Who better than me to investigate with you?”

The logic is sound- and that’s one of the problems. How will L react to knowing that monsters are in fact real, that they defy his logic? That Shinigami are probably real too? Even if it isn’t a Shinigami, it’s 100% something supernatural. How would he be justice then?

“L, you don’t understand. My way of working is very different. Things are looking bad, and the world is actually worse than you think. The lead I have- if it’s actually right- we will have a big problem on our hands. And you may be the best detective in the world but you are not equipped to handle this.”

“If you refuse, I will Light and Misa with us. Your choice.”

Damn him. I can’t exactly take the guy to a bar of hunters and make inquiries about spirits of death. I can’t take him hunting, period. At least not until I know what I’m dealing with.

“How about a compromise? We take Light and Misa off the case, and I do a little research on my lead. If it’s the real deal, I’ll tell you immediately and we can work together on it. If it’s bullshit, no point in risking your life over it. Fair?”

Eyes narrowed, he thinks it over. Too bad if he doesn’t agree cause there’s no chance I’m budging on this one. With my luck, the minute we step out of the building, we’ll be attacked by vampires or something that’ll result in the demise of the world’s greatest detective. It isn’t like I haven’t already gotten a world famous individual killed. Not that he was a human. Just a shape-shifting, all-eating monster that God himself locked away after realizing he fucked up.

“Acceptable. But I will put a tracking device on you to keep me notified of your location at all times. If it is truly as dangerous as you say, you must be monitored”, L finally decides.

“Fine by me. But you can’t come in- no matter what- unless I explicitly ask you to. Clear?”

“Alright. Will you follow your lead after Light and Misa leave?”

“No, I’ll start right away. Staying discreet for 2 days isn’t a problem.”

“I’ll have Watari give you a tracking device as soon as he returns from his errand. Don’t leave until then, and certainly not without informing me.”

“Who says I’m leaving now? Phase 1: Research on my laptop. I’m getting the laptops and holing up in my room. Do NOT let Misa come in. Can’t-”

“-let her know what you’re working on. Fine. I’ll send Watari there. Let’s go back now.”

As L and I head back to the command center, my chest feels lighter than before. Even though he doesn’t know everything, he’s still on my side. I have a plan. Research on the web, research in the local library, meeting the local hunters, confirming the monster, how to kill it and then killing it.

Easy-peasy, right? CHAPTER 8

Increasingly Improbable Predictions on Time Travel

Let me preface this by saying that I am not the person to go to for OPM meta discussion. There are plenty of people on Tumblr that are far more talented in that regard. My strengths are fanfic and shitposts, and I’m way out of my wheelhouse here. I considered not posting this at all. But I have a lot of thoughts about Chapter 166, and I need to get this into writing, even if no one reads it and it’s only to keep me from going crazy. Manga spoilers below the cut, obviously. Also some Mob Psycho 100 spoilers that I tried to keep sort of vague? Ready? Let’s get stupid!

I have a prediction brewing and I don't know how I feel about it. I'm not alone in thinking that the latest chapter was much darker than usual, nor in finding the chapter 164 redraw jarring. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this thought either: What if there are multiple timelines and we're being shown the darkest one? We've seen ONE do something similar with the Mogami arc in MP100, so we know he's good at making both his fans and his characters go through Some Shit, even if the events are an illusion or aren't permanent. (Also see: Mob going ??? in “Even Then ~Continue Forward~”, an otherwise lighthearted episode that ends with a cliffhanger so brutal that the first time I watched it, I gasped out loud, explained to my concerned spouse that my reaction was because I couldn’t believe the writer would actually go there, and had to stop watching for the night. Obviously, everything turned out to be a trick, but this moment stuck with me.)

ONE is a great story teller. He doesn’t need to kill anyone to make his audience feel pain, nor to leave his main characters with lasting trauma.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to my stupid time travel theory, which I’m sure is also not very original.

Now surely (and this is the point you may roll your eyes, but stay with me, I promise I'm going somewhere with it) Blast or one of his crew has the ability to send someone back in time. Like seriously, the guy fights with portals and tried to send Garou to another dimension. Let’s say Blast & Co. can send exactly one person back in time. But maybe time travel takes an extreme toll on the person’s body to the point that normal people can’t survive the jump. Hm...do we know anyone who can withstand any amount of physical stress without getting hurt? Oh, I know! How about we send the guy who uses a magma pool as a hot tub!

Scenario #1 (the “immediate fix”): The Blast Crew can only send Saitama back in time by a few minutes. But it’s enough. Enough to stop Celestial Garou’s radioactive attack. Enough to save his disciple. This time, he doesn’t arrive too late. He arrives just in time, like a true hero should.

Scenario #2 (the least bullshit one): Saitama gets sent back just far enough to stop Garou from getting possessed by God (no ID), and instead of continuing their Fistfight to End the World, Saitama (who is the only one who remembers the Worst Timeline and is just so tired) asks Garou if he's done yet, offers to lend an ear…and the chapter ends with a panel of dragon!Garou sheepishly sitting seiza at a low table with Saitama in an abandoned house floating in the sea. It’s odd to me that the Murata would spend so much time on the original, very different version of Chapter 164, only for it to be scrapped three days later. Maybe this scene does happen…just in a different order than expected. In this scenario, nothing is wasted.

Scenario #3 (improbable, confusing, and meta af, but indulge me please): Saitama gets sent back to some point earlier that day. LET’S GET META for a hot second. I remember reading a discussion by @gofancyninjaworld a long time ago (sorry dude, I tried to find it on your blog but no luck) about how the manga is ultimately written for the people who read it in its final, published volume form. But here's an awful, fun thought: What if the redraws are ONE/Murata throwing an extremely meta bonus to the readers who read each update as it comes out? If there's time travel fuckery involved, it explains at least one of the redraws…or all of them if Saitama were to get sent back further than meeting Awakened Garou on the shoreline. I'm imagining something like the scrapped chapters actually being an alternate timeline where Phoenix Man doesn't become chickified, Do-S and Narinki's mercenaries are killed by Sweet Mask, Orochi is killed by a punch instead of a bathtime mishap, etc. Time travel could also create some fun deja vu moments, like Atomic Samurai telling Iaian "I swear I've told you about this before" about the Sun Blade. Maybe he really did!

Scenario #4 (for lulz only, everyone would rage quit the series if it happened): Saitama travels back in time to the meeting that Sitch calls with the S-class to warn them about Shibabawa’s prophecy. Saitama informs him that the prophecy is about Bang’s student going off the rails. The entire Monster Association arc is canceled. Saitama beats up everyone in the subterranean and takes their gold. Garou gets therapy and a job at Fedex.

Pros of time travel being used as a plot device:

Saitama saving the world and no one knowing about it would be very on point for the series.

Saitama retaining his memories ties in with my earlier point: ONE doesn’t need to kill anyone off permanently to leave his main character with lasting trauma. Even if Genos survives this, I guarantee Saitama will be having nightmares about holding his core in his hand for years to come.

Many fans found Saitama’s comment that he’d “rather destroy the world” out of character for him. The comment makes a lot more sense if he’s already seen the people he cares for…you know.

It makes no damn sense to set up future sub-plots (Garou becoming a hero, a fetch quest for a magic sword, etc.) if everyone is just going to die of radiation poisoning anyway. It’s wasted potential, and as much as I’m hurting, I have faith in ONE/Murata to not do that.

Cons of time travel being used as a plot device:

Let's face it. Time travel as a fix-it is kind of a cop out. The only time I've seen it done well is in Steins;gate. (Which is a brilliant show if you haven't seen it.)

The further back in time we go, the less character development everyone gets. The S-class never learns to work together. Fubuki never discovers her healing powers, or stands up to her sister. Waganma never stops being a brat. Sweet Mask never gets to beat a pep talk into Darkshine, and Zombieman never gets to admit that Sweet Mask isn’t as bad as he seems. The Bad Boys don’t get their team-up. Garou doesn’t get to (try to) tell God to fuck off.

We’ve already seen characters we thought were goners come back through the power of magic (looking at you, Tanktop Master), and if it happens too much, it's going to be difficult to truly experience suspense properly again. The stakes just won’t be there. Every time a character dies, it’ll be a case of the boy who cried wolf. (Or rather the boy who cried, "Can't we just have Fubuki/Blast fix it?")

So I’m conflicted. Would a time travel fix-it make you rage quit the series? Would it cheapen the trauma that everyone has been through, or could it be done well? Or can you not see this happening at all? I guess we’ll find out in two weeks.

Neurodivergent (Dyslexia, ADHD, Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety, Dyscalculia) I’m still still getting used to using the term neurodivergent for myself since it’s only recently that the term has started being used for other dx outside of autism. I’ve recently accepted that I may be on the autism spectrum as well, but I haven’t been tested and don’t know if I will pursue testing at this point

Invisible ♿️ : Officially I’m not considered physically disabled. However, I’ve had major spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis, which along with causing physical limitations, results in chronic back pain. I’ve also had two herniated disks, one of which required surgery as it was pinching my nerves to the point I lost feeling in one of my legs. I’ve started getting ablations but I’m still pretty much always in someone degree of pain. I occasionally use a cane if the pain is especially bad

ahhh angel, you’ve been missed!! i’m glad to see somewhat of an update from you! also, did i read that right, you’ve been dragged into kpop? because honestly same, well almost.

i was in love with kpop a few years ago, but fell out of it because the groups i was into either disbanded, or some members left which changed the group dynamic entirely. though recently i came across txt, took one look at choi yeonjun’s face, and now he’s all my mind can think about. but it’s been quite fun reverting back to my kpop days tbh, it gives me a boost of serotonin that i can’t get anywhere else. not even through anime + manga.

sorry about that ramble!! just know that diving into kpop is such a trip!! and if you ever feel like too much of a newbie i’d be glad to help you navigate through it. anyways, are there any groups you’re currently into in particular? because i’d love to hear about them!

also maybe it’s just me, but my interest in animanga has slightly waned now that i got back into kpop. i’m in my mid-20s and accepting the fact that i just can’t pour energy into multiple interests simultaneously anymore,,,,

I used to be a kpop fan when I was like 10-13ish? so 2nd gen will forever have a special place in my heart, but I’m literally the exact same! I think falling back down the kpop rabbit hole is a whole diff experience because there’s just so much content, esp as someone who’s kinda coming into it later so i have so many interviews and variety shows and comebacks to catch up on? vs. waiting on a new chap every week and that being the only canon content available, if that makes any sense hehe
