my elevator alter ego
lives for nights like these
antique mirrored glass and lights
that shiver in the breeze
skin on fire, hands like ice
steam hissing through the air
pressed against a wall; dashed hopes
and glitter in your hair

Sometimes I see you
A boy shaped like
Sunlight out of the
Corner of my eye
That homemade dimple
Winking, an apple-cheeked
Cherub, somehow five years
Old again and I am that little
Girl who used to love you like
Saturday morning cartoons
Like sleeping in after slumber
Parties, like the inside jokes
Of a childhood braided and it
Is still so unbearable that head
On you're gone, now just a
Blurred photo from
A brighter year

Hello September
Morning of the first September was crisp and golden
Almost as if it carried the healing properties
Like it is here to renew your negative energy
with fresh, new and positive ones
Filled with strong scent of empty letters
singing a song of simple truth
Bringing in patience and determination at every door.
September breeze unveils a fragile heart
from it's endless clouds
Draped in fine linen
and settling in like an old friend does
The beginning of fall
fills the spaces with endless summer of love and stories

#SPARKSINSEPTEMBER 2023 HAS ARRIVED ✨
You might recall my writing prompt challenge I bring back every year. Or if you're new around here, let me introduce you to #SparksInSeptember!
Back in 2020, I was so used to sharing my words that I wanted to turn the status quo on its head and hear what YOU had to say. Since then, I've read hundreds of creative pieces and even used these prompts to write a book in 30 days. Who knows what this year might bring?
Make sure to @ me and use the hashtag so that I can read your poems/words/art/creations - you're welcome to use them as figuratively or literally as you like. I'll be keeping an eye out both here and on Instagram.
Below are 2023's prompts, but I'll also link the previous lists for you as well if you want to check them out! Have fun and let's make some magic xx

the French word for tongue is langue
and i let it lounge on my lips like a lover
curl around my heart like a prayer
as i remember -
langue
the language of lovers, the curse of the saints
the tongue, the source of sin
the lie of a liar, the praise of a win
the tongue, la langue
something so strong, it breaks hearts and wills
something so quick, it's silver, never still
la langue
no longer has the power to devour my words
la langue
no longer caught in a closing throat
la langue
no longer;
my tongue,
i conquer.

a love made of layers
you shimmer in the sunlight, backlit with the glow of a smile and a secret, a gem on the tip of your tongue lashing out with a lark or a laugh, a glimmer of goodness in each chime of your shine
a jewel, that's you the night, that's me you're the summer sensation glistening in my dusk the evening star against my ink-blot sky and i thought that was all of you and me all you and half me for always but somehow summer folds into copper and gold and i see the mettle hiding beneath your skin, glowing and growing and going further than i could ever go because i'm no beacon like you - no diamond-turned-to-gold - i'm a copper-coin copping the consequences for lies you coined.
but despite this, my copper-coin self forgives you because you shine in the sun; you're meant for the sun, and my copper-coin self forgives you, because she's destined for the shade and the shadows.

note to self: you won't realise you were no longer numb until the emptiness returns to the scourge of a stomach it calls home; you won't remember what it feels like to feel when it does
note to self: you won't know how to remove the restlessness - that shifting tide within you - you won't know why it calls on you to make moves and take names, take charge and make change you won't hear the fear in its voice until you've gone too far to take any of it back
note to self: you won't settle for mediocrity when you're experienced temptation sparks flying from your fingertips as they swirl across pure art dreaming, drawing, dragging out minutia into moments sculpted into memories too precious to forget; you forge ahead.
note to self: i am numb again this time i won't fight it i'll find it dig deep find purpose and return to numbness for comfort when it's done

tessellated patterns
shift restlessly over the grass
reds and golds, drifting free at last
metallic essence glowing,
backlit by the sun
leaves unfold, their orange tinting done
shadows dance and flutter through the trees;
a gentle descent, cradled by the breeze
until they land, and suddenly
the ground is tiled in something grand

lift your eyes towards the moon,
gleaming in the gloom...
let loose your midnight madness;
spill your secrets and your sadness

swallow your love
softly
and in silence
.
bury it
in shallow bites
of truth
.
how many times do we send love to its grave, only for it to rise and consume us once again?

siren, siren...
why don’t you call to me,
singing that soul-stealing tune?
i’m here, waiting... wanting...
why don’t you reach for me?
siren, siren...
you look at everyone but me
are there really so many fish
swimming in this beautiful sea?
siren, siren...
why don’t you call to me?
wrenching heart from ribs
steering ships to rocks
tearing sinew apart
i’m waiting... willing...
for that soul-stealing tune
so sing to me, siren
claim my vow as your own
control my limbs, my heart, my mind
i’m yours, i pledge to your throne
sing to me, my siren...
sing to me

he’s everything i could ever need,
a cabinet full of wonder:
captured curiosity and cool collected calm
midnight madness beside cloudy daze
and a bottle of his poison
a penny given for his thoughts
a compass for his reason
seven of his promises,
and his secrets (there’s a few),
freedom floating through the shelves
and understanding, too
his creative spirit sits in wait
next to trust and strength
leaving room for mine to join (when it’s ready to)
everything i could ever need
is collected in one place
he is my wunderkammer:
my treasure, my love, my fate
