Some of my Thoughts About Batman: The Animated Series as Someone Who Knows Very Little About Batman Lore (PART 1)
(This is just the first three episodes because it's late and I'm tired and I'd like to go to bed now lol)
•Bangin intro has me very hyped
•Police blimps
•"No one is taking a vigilante force onto my streets." Commissioner Gordon.. Wtf do you think Batman is-? Do you know who Batman is at this point in the series?
•Gotham citizens have a hard time telling the difference between an emo and an actual anthropomorphic bat despite the fact that they look nothing alike
•ALFRED IS HERE AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY BECAUSE HE'S REALLY COOL •HE'S A SARCASTIC KING AND I LOVE HIM •We have the same sense of humor frfr
•Batman really likes using smoke bombs
•From reading the episode descriptions, and from watching this first episode, it seems like a lot of these villains are just drug addicts- •Drug addicts who really like bats, in this case
•The anthropomorphic bat was a doctor's fursona all along •There's a ridiculous amount of furries in Gotham
•They really like breaking windows. This is only the first episode and like.. Three windows have been broken already
•Christmas tree rockets
•ROBIN SPOTTED •WHICH ROBIN IS THIS •I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF 'EM •Whichever Robin it is has sass, but I think all of them do •"Well ba-humbug to you too 😒" - Robin •THEY'RE WATCHING MOVIES AND EATING DINNER TOGETHER ON CHRISTMAS THIS IS A CUTE FAMILY MOMENT ASJSHAHSJAK •Unfortunately the Joker is here to mess that up tho T-T
•"Looks like I'll have to teach daddy some manners.." Uhhh, Joker..? 💀
•Look at this lovely father & son Christmas bonding, saving people and getting shot at with canons 💕
•I feel like the Joker having turrets shaped like him is really on brand somehow, despite knowing little to nothing about the Joker's said brand
•BETTY BOOP? •BETTY BOOP IS GOING TO MURDER US ALL
•Batman just has a freaking baseball bat 😭🖐 •"They don't call you Bat-man for nothing! 😀" - Robin
•According to the five minutes of research I just did, I think this Robin is Dick Grayson which is, according to the longer then five minutes of research I did last night, the OG (AKA the first) Robin.. So before Bruce's orphan addiction fully formed, I suppose?
•What did Bruce do to you, doctor guy- •This doctor is, like, really passive aggressive ;-; •Also kind of rude of him to just spout nonsense about Bruce's father and Bruce's father's death as if that wasn't an incredibly traumatizing experience for Bruce lmao •BRUCE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO BE DEPRESSED ABOUT IT BECAUSE SCARECROW IS HERE AND HE HAS A GUN- •The villains in this series are kinda obsessed with guns just as much as they're obsessed with drugs
•So Scarecrow takes the "Scare" part of his name literally and makes people hallucinate their fears? •Damn Bruce, dealing with some trauma right now?? 😭😭 I feel like a lot of characters with parent problems (whether those parents are dead or not) have visions and dreams of their parents being like "you suck lmao" to them
•Commissioner Gordon does, in fact know who Batman is right now, so wtf was he talking about earlier with the whole "no vigilantes" thing -_-
•yeah I'd probably call someone a lunatic if they kidnapped people and performed human experimentation too, scarecrow
•Guys I think Bruce needs to go to therapy (again? Has he already been before?) because he's having- like- a panic attack over this Scarecrow guy and his parents and all that.. •I mean my mans hands are SHAKING and his visions going all blurry •YEAH YOU TELL HIM ALFRED, GIVE HIM THOSE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS AND FEED HIM SOUP ALL RIGHT
•Bruce literally can not catch a break in this episode he went from having panic attacks because of the fear toxin to just.. Getting beat up by random, also fear gassed people 😔
•They like blimps a lot
•Just broke another window
•Tiny plane that looks like it's made out of cardboard
•They also like explosions a lot
•Why's this Jonathan Crane guy so scared of bats •He also has elf ears lol
•Thomas and Martha Wayne? Bruce's parents names acquired
•(This version of)Bruce looks stupid in sunglasses

fave cadw site(s)?
What a SPECTACULAR ask omg okay
In no particular order:
Caerleon Roman Fortress. Local to where I grew up, so a special place in my heart anyway given that I've been there so often, but it's also incredibly well preserved and presented given that the modern town of Caerleon is on top. Plus, the mythical seat of King Arthur, so that's fun. My sister and I spent a lot of time pretending to be lions in the amphitheatre and mauling each other
Caerwent. Similar reasons! Less local, but I did Classics as a teen and it's an excellent Roman town ruin for a school trip, PLUS it was the cantonal capital of the Silures - the Celtic tribe that lived in my region
Bryn Celli Ddu. Iron Age burial mound on Anglesey. Every time I've been I've bored the tits off of whoever I've been there with explaining the site, which just goes to show I need better friends
Caernarfon Castle and Town Walls. This is technically two sites but fuck it. I absolutely adore Caernarfon. I am politically not supposed to because Gogs, but it's just wonderful. You should all go. Borrow my car.
Castell Coch. Local again, I've been loads, but it's batshit. Built by a rich lunatic who looked around Wales, the Castle Capitol of Europe, and went "Where are the fairytale turrets" because he profoundly didn't understand the function of a castle. He also built the Animal Wall in Bute Park in Cardiff
Tretower Court, I've only been once but it was GREAT
Caerphilly Castle. Second biggest in Europe! Leaning tower! Fab.

Snippet Thursday: Baby Croc Chaos
(For context, the first time the boys were allowed outside, someone took a shot at Croc, because you don't see that every day. It ended up injuring his leg. Jak attacked the man, and Damas was called to break up the fight. Despite being presumed too young for Arena trials and not having cleared the necessary obstacle training course, Damas gives permission for Jak to demand a duel on Croc's behalf. Normally this would be done by the guardian or parent of the injured child, but it's clear that the boys have no parents. Obviously, Jak won.)
Most expected the angry shapeshifter from the Arena to start making more frequent appearances after the battle trial. He had his first amulet -- earlier than most orphans in the youth barracks got them -- and his gate pass now, making him eligible for the work roster. He could start finding artifacts of his own now, and earn enough to support the creatures he called his siblings. With the ferocity he'd shown in the ring, it had been assumed that he'd jump at the chance to carve out a place for himself in Spargus.
And yet the king had sent word that they were to be returned to C-Ward in the tower the moment the Arena settled. And no one had seen them since.
Perhaps it was a confinement of sorts. The king had been fairly displeased to find the foundling boy and Tarn in the holding cells after the market brawl. He'd been even angrier when he learned the context of it.
Those who had been in the market that day, and had witnessed the scaly spirit-child thing, suggested that Lord Damas was simply being cautious. As strange as "Croc" was -- even disturbing to some -- it was a child, unmistakably. There'd been no call for Tarn to fire at it -- and firing willy-nilly in the market was a good way to get a shell to the head anyway.
The matter came up during the city's weekly review of the wall defenses. Hutch, head of the city architects' guild, handed over the blueprints for his wall turret proposal and glanced to the far edge of the throne room. Strangely, the shapeshifter was there, sitting amongst the date palms with the talking animal and the spirit infant.
What a time to be alive that such a sentence could even be thought-!
Had Damas summoned the boy? For what purpose?
Hutch saw the orange creature point to one of the trees, and the boy moved as fast as lightning. He slapped a palm to the trunk as if trying to crush something, then took a small spray bottle from the mustelid.
Ah, the king had put them to work removing pests from the trees. Fifteen of the palms filled the room in large planters, and the architect pitied the foundlings for the unenviable task of applying pesticides to them all. Maybe they were being punished for something.
The king scanned the blueprints carefully before passing them to the director of finance.
"This design is compact enough that adding it to the wall wouldn't put a burden on the city's budget. However, I am concerned about the amount of eco an automated turret would consume. What do you plan to run it on?"
"S- solar...power...actually," Hutch answered sheepishly. "I've just realized my proposal for solar panels is still sitting on my desk."
Lottie, the finance director, looked at him dryly. "Probably would've helped to start with that one."
The architect flushed slightly. "It's been a busy week," he protested, "The monks have been at me for old archived blueprints of Tributary!"
Then he wearily asked, "Should I go home and get the other proposal, sire?"
Damas didn't answer right away, which was unlike him.
Instead, his eyes were fixed on the trio of inhu'men orphans working in the artificial grove. (What were they? Hutch didn't think they were actually spirits, but darned if he'd ever seen a Lurker with so little hair!)
After a moment, the king seemed to shake himself.
"No, that won't be necessary," he said quickly. "Just...explain it to Lottie when we adjourn for noon rest."
Unexpectedly, that week's patrol leader for the gate wall spoke up.
"They get noon rest too, right, sir?"
Evidently the presence of the shapeshifter and siblings had concerned him as well. Odolan shifted uncomfortably, whether because of the boys or because of -- apparently -- calling out the king himself.
"Shouldn't they be in the barracks during meetings?" Odolan pressed.
"No," answered the king. He sounded almost disinterested, as if the matter barely merited comment. "They have a room here. They just don't stay in it."
Now his other advisors began to shift and frown between each other. The only people who should've been living in the tower were the ruler of Spargus and his personal guards, a detachment of medics and patients in the warriors' Convalescence Ward, and the staff of the water treatment and kitchen facilities. Underage foundlings -- almost always rescues or defectors from Marauders, not exiles -- went to the youth barracks. They had to make connections with their age mates, to form Squads! It was a well-established part of Spargan culture by now. Why in the world would their king deny the new foundlings that? Was it because of their appearance?
Odolan looked deeply uncomfortable as he asked, "Is- is this because of how the boy killed Tarn? He was well within his rights to do so."
"Mhm. That's partially why." Damas didn't look up. He scratched notes quickly into a pad of recycled paper. "Here, Hutch. Look this over and tell me if it's sound."
He handed him a rough diagram of the front wall with alternate turret locations, then twirled the pencil between his fingers.
"Er...mostly, sire. But that junction there is above several wall residences."
"Ah, right. Scratch that one then." Damas took the pad back and drew a line through the box meant to represent a turret.
"Actually- here. Draw me those solar panels you're on about. Show me where you'd put them before you discuss it with Lottie."
When he finally glanced up, he saw that half the guild heads and advisors were still casting confused or curious glances over at the boys in the grove. The children were eavesdropping, of course. The chores had been implemented in an attempt to mitigate that somewhat, but with the amount of scarring and eco healing marks in their bones, Damas suspected they'd learned to listen carefully no matter how busy they looked. He couldn't explain to his council why he indulged Jak’s refusal to go back outside until Croc's nightmares stopped. Or admit that his own curiosity was keeping him from sending them to a barracks RA to sort out. It may have been -- he had trouble admitting it, even to himself, without pain -- the age of the youngest. He was no older than Mar had been when he was taken. He was small, and helpless, and the youth barracks were for teenagers, not toddlers. Separating Jak from his younger sibling just seemed cruel. And too much like how he'd lost Mar.
With a long-suffering look, Damas asked dryly, "Does anyone else have concerns about the gremlin gang they'd like to voice so that we can focus on the task at hand?"
Taking it as an invitation rather than sarcasm, -- she'd never been good at detecting sarcasm, in her defense -- Lottie remarked, "Who's going to look after the wee creatures when the lad enters his first Squad?"
Damas waved that off immediately. "They're not ready for Squads. Not in the least."
"Not ready for Squads?" Hutch muttered to Odolan, not quiet enough to go unheard, "How can a foundling not be ready for basic training?"
At that moment, the nature spirit thing came scampering out of the palms with an excited trill. Scuttling along before him was a very panicked scorpion -- no doubt it had been sleeping in the soil brought up for the planters. The scaly toddler crouched, tail lashing, then pounced. He held it it up by the tail, proudly showing the small arachnid to the adults, then his brothers.
"Good catch, Croc!" Jak ducked out of the palms. "Let me see it."
He ignored the presence of the council and crouched to examine the absolutely furious scorpion.
"Cool. Never seen one this small before. Check out the carapace-"
"Urr?"
"Hard shell. Body."
"Urr!"
"It ain't a juvenile. That means this sucker's got some pretty major poison in that stinger."
Damas opened his mouth to say something, then shut it again and shook his head. Perhaps eventually the council would learn what he had: it was completely and utterly useless to try to interrupt Jak when he was excited about something.
Carefully, Croc set the scorpion down and pinned it in place with his foot claws. With chubby fingers and the SparSign common to infants and toddlers, he asked, "I eat dat spicy bug?"
"Yeah sure, just not the tail."
Instant panic amongst the adults.
Damas launched out of the throne.
"Oh for the love of- Croc! No! Do not eat raw scorp-"
Too late.
The wide, wide mouth opened, and with a noticeable crunch, the scorpion met its end. While the adults stared in wide-eyed expressions ranging from disbelief to bravely stifling explosive laughter, Jak relieved Croc of the stinger.
"We'll put this with the other ones."
Jak finally looked up and stared impassively at Damas, still ignoring the council.
"What?"
"He's an infant, Jak! You don't know he can eat scorpions safely," Damas sighed.
The boy shrugged. "He's eaten way worse and been fine."
The orange one scurried out and up onto Jak’s head.
"Bald-faced lie. Eatin' KG gave him the most unholy flatulence and you know it."
Jak pretended not to hear this.
"Besides," he said, sounding cocky, "Dax and me ate scorpions plenty of times when we were little. It didn't hurt us."
This got an...interesting reaction from the Wastelanders. In what environment were young children allowed to catch and eat scorpions regularly? They were supervised, of course, they would have had to be-
"You realize," Daxter said with a hint of bitterness in his voice, "That we wouldn't have had to hunt scorpions if your absentee uncle had actually fed us instead of spending the grocery money on treasure maps every month."
Well then.
As one, the advisors turned to look at Damas. He simply gestured to the boys as if saying "you see?"
Dry as dust, the king asked, "Any other objections to continued adult supervision?"
Odolan shook his head and wondered how the strange orphans had even lived this long.
"I withdraw the question."

Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 5 (scattered) thoughts and first impressions (ramblings)
Major spoilers under the cut
This one is also very long because mannnnnnn did I love this episode and omg do I have big feelings about it
Also yes I do love each member of tbb but in case it’s not obvious I’m a crosshair girlie. Have been since I first heard his voice in season 7 of tcw so this is gonna be very crosshair centric (because he finally has screen time and more than like 2 speaking lines this season!!)
Lula! 🥰🥰
Is Omega in a supply closet? Whatever better than her barren room at the lab
Ah nope her old “room” the gun turret 🥰🥰
A glimpse of mornings on board the marauder: peaceful boys and caf 🥹 probably only peaceful again now that omega is home
This is Omega’s best look omg the the crocheted vest??? I wanna cosplay her now or actually just wear this outfit fr
At first I was so annoyed they kept crosshair in this ugly ass outfit but I honestly think it’s because even though it’s warm on Pabu he’s always cold because he’s so skinny now (well he always was lean but this is a testament to how much weight he lost as a prisoner) They keep trying to feed him fruit and my man keeps using it as target practice 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
I honestly love when they show scenes through like either a scope or helmet visor. Like I really love seeing what they’re seeing. In this case AZI (so happy they took him from Cids bar- sorry “parlor”….it was a dive bar)
He’s so mad at his hand 😭 my poor baby he really should let AZI look at it. What do we think it is? Nerve damage? I imagine it feels tingly like when your foot falls asleep.
I love that Batcher loves him!! Animals know good people. He’s a good man Savannah! 😭😭😭 and he likes Batcher too and anyone that’s kind to animals is ok by me.
Ugh Crosshair teaching Omega about being a sniper 🥰🥰😭🥰😭🥰 one day she’s just gonna pop out with a sick trick shot lmao
Shouldn’t have given him his rifle??? Sir it’s an extension of him, it’s like you gave him back one of his body parts
“Omega trusts him and that’s good enough for me” Wrecker!!! My sweet boy!! Big man and even bigger heart. He’s now kinda caught in the middle he wants to be cool with Crosshair again but doesn’t want to betray Hunter they’ve been through a lot just the 2 of them these past several months. Crosshair and Hunter are like parents in the middle of a divorce 😭
53%???? Fuckkkkkkk way worse than we thought
Echo!!!!! Yay mom came home!
“No hug for me” screaming crying throwing up! 😭😭😭😭😭😭 💔💔💔💔he’s disguising it as sarcasm but he wants it, he wants a hug! SOMEBODY HUG HIM DAMMIT! I volunteer!!! Please
Omega between her 2 dads 🥰 (Though is Crosshair more wine aunt vibes sometimes?) And batcher by Crosshair’s feet of course
Yummmmm I bet Pabu has banging sushi 🍣 Love Wrecker being an unbothered king enjoying his sush🥰
😭😭😭😭😭 Crosshair’s face when Echo mentioned Tech. He knows. He knows he fell or perished (shh no 🤡) trying to save him. They’re twins and he lost his other half and I’m devastated!! 😭
Haaaaa welcome to parenting a teenager Hunter!!!
Are Hunter’s eyes green all of a sudden?
Crosshair being the voice of reason?? I love seeing this side of him. I HC that since he is silent and highly observant he was a voice reason often for the batch. (Can we please get a series of TBB during the clone wars?? Or like when they were cadets or something. We only see them in 4 episodes in tcw and they were just an insane suicide squad who hated regs and didn’t follow orders or have anyone in charge of them like I wanna see their adventures and their dynamic and how they are when they have downtime! Please lucasfilmmmmmm 🙇‍♀️🧎🏼‍♀️)
“I’m older than you are, little brother” 😂😂😂 and she got crosshair to chuckle lol ugh I love their dynamic so much. They are really feeding us rn (please don’t take it away)
Omg he’s so brave bringing them back there! To that freaking ice planet where nothing but trauma happened for Crosshair. I know he probably wished he would never have to go back there again but he knows this will help so he goes anyway
The old armor!!!! Helllllll frickinnnn yeaaaaaa (he’s so hot in armor omg I have a headache)
“Take a guesssssss” 🥵
“He started it” 😂😂 major youngest sibling energy
Mayday’s helmet! 💔💔💔💔 somebody sedate me!! 😭
Why can’t Hunter sense the Wyrm?
TOOTHPICK!!! Wrecker defo kept his toothpicks in the armor case 🥰
Frickin ice vulture always an omen. (Animals seem to really like Crosshair though even the scary ones)
“I know you” 😭 I know Hunter meant it in a “I know you’re sneaky and closed off and I’m expecting the worst from you right now ” but it just hit me harder than that. “I know you”- you’re my brother, the youngest I’ve known you since the day you were born. “I know you- I know there’s more to your silence I know your still waters run way deeper than you let on.” “I’m your brother- I know you talk to me I know you”❤️‍🩹
Oh shitttttt thems are fightin words yes let it out everyone
“I’ll do it! 😁” Wreckerrrr I love you
Hunter’s fast af boi!
Batcher is actually ripped af 💪
Ok petition that Cross doesn’t yell anymore it doesn’t suit him at all lmaoooo
Poor Wrecker yes it’s always ALWAYS a huge monster 😭
“Fantastic” 😂😂😂
Omg this is a roller coaster of emotions! Crosshair being soft with Batcher, the nodding! Ugh nothing like fending off a giant ice wyrm to bring bros back together
He’s so pretty shut up I know his head is shaped like a lightbulb
AAHH THERES THE HUG 🥰
progress 😌
“I thought I was being a good soldier 😔” * *pterodactyl screeching *
Welp Im deceased, fed and nurtured but dead at the same time.
Thank you thank you thank you for these past few episodes. Us Crosshair girlies were really in pain seasons 1 and 2

Hi Scorchie! Remember me? 🐂 I read your headcanons for the princes as kids and thought they were the sweetest! If you take requests, could you do some for the new princes too since Silvio's route just got announced. Only if you want to tho.
*gasp* Ox-Anon, is that you?
Lol, I'm really really happy. It sounds like you enjoyed reading them as much as I did writing them, which is honestly all I need to feel satisfied 😌
I never officially set up any request system, I'll have to look into that more properly in the future... but for now I'm honored by your ask!
To be honest, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the new princes (been trying to limit looking at updates from jp to keep them a surprise), but for you I'll give it a shot! 💪
Thanks for the ask!!

Gilbert von Obsidian
Started a game where he’d swipe the emperor’s walking cane and stash it in the strangest places. The hiding spots got more difficult to find and reach with each successive round, ranging from under the bed to over high wall sconces to dangling precariously off the highest turret spires. How on earth did he manage to get up there with those tiny limbs?
All the palace-goers got involved with the search, from the serfs to the dukes, each terrified of what the prince would do if he sensed they were getting bored with his little game. It reached a point where the cane didn’t turn up for three full months, so the emperor caved and bought a new one. Gilbert snatched that one up, too. And all the following ones. He now boasts an impressive collection.
Sent introductory pen pal letters to princes and princesses across the lands. He never received a response.
But he did once receive a lavish mink-fur coat from a far away nation for his birthday. The thought of wearing another animal’s hide troubled him since he wasn’t the one to end its life, but the ebony pelt felt so luscious in his hands he kept it anyway. He would only wear it in his room though, on days when he didn’t feel like lighting the fireplace. He’d curl up with a book by the massive snow-paned windows and read until the horizon consumed the short winter sun. Then he’d retire to bed, pull the fuzzy collar over his face, and let the warmth of his trapped breath lull him to sleep.
The coat still hangs in pristine condition in his closet (next to his assemblage of canes) even though he’s since outgrown it years ago. He’s holding onto it until the day he finds the right child who could take care of it as well as he had to pass it on to.
Keith Howell
Set the record for the highest number of outfits ruined beyond repair as a result of playing outdoors.
Skid marks from tripping on uneven terrain when he helps clear the roads after a storm. Rips from vines and branches when he volunteers to climb and pick the highest fruit during the harvest. Indelible mud stains from when he assists with watering the seedlings at the start of the new growing season. The servants pleaded with the king to stop insisting he wear white pants so often.
Broke his arm one day helping a village farmer wrangle his herd of goats into their pen. He was observing the magnificent horns of an elderly billy when it got startled by the sudden appearance of the Other Keith and charged at him. Ever since then most of his activity outside the palace was restricted, so he’s led a pretty sheltered childhood.
Always dreamed of touring the places he’d only read about in his books. He wanted to play in the sandy sapphire shores of Benitoite, taste all the delicacies Rhodolite had to offer, and meet the friendly Obsidianite prince his parents wouldn’t let him write back to. Dare to dream, kid.
Finally mustered up the courage to ask his parents’ permission to travel outside Jade. After much back-and-forth, they agreed under the condition he’d first go a full year without sullying a single pair of pants. It was the most herculean trial he ever faced in his young life.
Silvio Ricci
Cried during his first swimming lesson. And his second. And the next three dozen.
He refused to even look at the ocean for the first month. Instead, he’d latch onto a nearby palm tree like a koala with an iron grip and pout. It took a lot of convincing to warm him up to the idea of letting the waves pass over his feet, and he slowly worked his way up to actually entering the water (arms firmly wrapped around his instructor’s neck koala-style, of course).
Hated how people talked down to him like he was just some kid. He wanted to be treated like a grownup as soon as possible, so he had a habit of parading through the palace halls wearing his father’s ginormous fur coat and his mother’s heels. The first few attempts were full of embarrassing tripping-over-rugs and stumbling-down-stairs, but he persevered and now stalks the halls with the most confident gait west of the ocean.
One summer’s eve when he was strolling along the shore (he does that when he wants to get away from the stuck up grownups) he happened upon a washed up glass bottle. Inside was a battered bracelet made of broken seashells and misshapen pearl orbs and a note that read “Where have you gone?”
Has no explanation for it, but every summer he boards a boat and tosses a new bottle beyond the waves containing his own handmade seashell-and-pearl bracelet and a paper saying “Come find me.”

There in the ancient Gothic doorway stood a human figure. It was that of a man clad in a skullcap and long mediaeval tunic of dark color. His long hair and flowing beard were of a terrible and intense black hue, and of incredible profusion. His forehead, high beyond the usual dimensions; his cheeks, deep-sunken and heavily lined with wrinkles; and his hands, long, claw-like, and gnarled, were of such a deathly, marble-like whiteness as I have never elsewhere seen in man. His figure, lean to the proportions of a skeleton, was strangely bent and almost lost within the voluminous folds of his peculiar garment. But strangest of all were his eyes, twin caves of abysmal blackness, profound in expression of understanding, yet inhuman in degree of wickedness. These were now fixed upon me, piercing my soul with their hatred, and rooting me to the spot whereon I stood. Title and author: The Alchemist, a Gothic horror tale by H. P. Lovecraft (1908) Plot: The narrator, Antoine, is the last descendant of a noble family cursed by a sorcerer named Charles Le Sorcier, who swore revenge for the death of his father Michel Mauvais2. Antoine discovers that Charles still lives thanks to an elixir of eternal life, and that he is responsible for the premature deaths of his ancestors. Antoine confronts Charles in a subterranean chamber of the castle, where he reveals his secret and tries to kill him with a poison3. Antoine manages to escape but is horrified to hear Charles say that he is the very sorcerer who cursed his family six centuries ago. Theme: The tale explores themes such as the hereditary curse, the supernatural revenge, alchemy, and cosmic horror. Style: The tale is written in an archaic and elaborate style, typical of Lovecraft’s works, and makes references to elements of medieval history and culture. The tale also presents a dark and oppressive atmosphere, and a surprising and terrifying climax. The main characters of the tale “The Alchemist” by H. P. Lovecraft are: Antoine: The narrator and last descendant of a cursed noble family. Charles Le Sorcier: The sorcerer who cursed Antoine’s family and lives thanks to an elixir of eternal life. Michel Mauvais: Charles’s father, whose death by an ancestor of Antoine triggered the curse. First Paragraph: High up, crowning the grassy summit of a swelling mound whose sides are wooded near the base with the gnarled trees of the primeval forest, stands the old chateau of my ancestors. For centuries its lofty battlements have frowned down upon the wild and rugged countryside about, serving as a home and stronghold for the proud house whose honored line is older even than the moss-grown castle walls. These ancient turrets, stained by the storms of generations and crumbling under the slow yet mighty pressure of time, formed in the ages of feudalism one of the most dreaded and formidable fortresses in all France. From its machicolated parapets and mounted battlements Barons, Counts, and even Kings had been defied, yet never had its spacious halls resounded to the footsteps of the invader. Last Paragraph: Suddenly the wretch, animated with his last burst of strength, raised his hideous head from the damp and sunken pavement. Then, as I remained, paralyzed with fear, he found his voice and in his dying breath screamed forth those words which have ever afterward haunted my days and my nights. “Fool,” he shrieked, “can you not guess my secret? Have you no brain whereby you may recognize the will which has through six long centuries fulfilled the dreadful curse upon your house? Have I not told you of the great elixir of eternal life? Know you not how the secret of Alchemy was solved? I tell you; it is I! I! I! that have lived for six hundred years to maintain my revenge, FOR I AM CHARLES LE SORCIER!”

i was saying to a friend (who joked that glados is lesbian) that the prima donna turret is probably actually a lesbian because it's called "turretwife" in portal 2's files, and the only male characters in portal are wheatley and the other cores, and therefore if it was someone's wife it would either be chell's wife or glados's wife or another turret's wife (making it lesbian) or it would the wife of one of the cores (which is fairly implausible) and anyway the point of all this is that apparently i was right because i was watching a youtube video with a guest appearance by erik wolpaw and he said that one of the ideas for the story would have the animal king turret marry chell off to the prima donna turret so hey i was joking but wound up being like 80% right and jeez that is a wall of text sorry

HL & Portal / Wings of Fire crossover time bc I like dragons and both of these franchises and I want to get it off somewhere before I made art of them
This crossover is basically just the characters of Half-Life and Portal in a Wings of Fire setting. The worldbuilding is altered slightly to accustom them more, Pantala and Pyrrhia still exists and tribes from both continents are well-acquainted with each other to a degree that's beyond what the books depicted, tribes from one continent are frequently sighted in another and are found to even inhabit them.
Animus dragons (god forbid they can just thanos snap the Combine and Xen flora-fauna invasion out of existence) and scavengers don't exist in this crossover. So essentially all characters are just dragons, and humanoid entities are also dragon-esque in design
Black Mesa and Aperture Science are located on Pantala, their company names remain unchanged because I have no idea on what else to call them lol. The events of HL2 and so forth takes place in Pyrrhia
Anyway on with the characters themselves keep in mind these are only humans (and probably some robots) so there'd be no humanoid aliens like Vorts or the Nihilanth. Also because I said in the context of the world that means their names will follow the naming rule of the tribe I designated them with so there won't be last names (but I'm tempted to call Gordon Freeman 'The One Free Wing' lmao) I won't show their names yet bc some aren't finalized yet 😭

“Margaret was the youngest surviving child of Isabelle, duchess of Lorraine, and René of Anjou, titular king of Sicily and Jerusalem. Her father was a famed patron of literature, art and chivalrous endeavours who, in his later years, amused himself with elaborate tournaments and a menagerie of exotic animals for whom his tailors embroidered costumes.
During Margaret's childhood René was often absent on campaign, or enduring imprisonment by his enemies. As a result she had grown up at the court of her grandmother, Yolande of Aragon. The cultured Yolande was a respected force in French politics, and trusted adviser to her son-in-law Charles VI. Charles had spent his adolescence in her court and occasionally returned to visit during Margaret's youth. From the turrets of Saumur Castle above the River Loire, Yolande had exercised authority over territories that stretched from Maine to Provence and Lorraine to Italy. Margaret's mother, Isabelle of Lorraine, had been just as steadfast in defence of her and René's rights, once leading a fleet to Naples on her husband's behalf.
Margaret had thus grown up in an atmosphere of educational and imaginative expression, watching women protect their family's interests with the same capability as their male relatives.”

Belém Tower, Lisbon (No. 3)
The building's plan consists of a rectangular tower and an irregular, hexagonal bastion, with elongated flanks, that projects south into the river. It is basically a large articulated vertical space resting on a horizontal stone slab, covered by masonry enclosures. On the northeast angle of the structure, protected by a defensive wall with bartizans, is a drawbridge to access the bulwark, decorated in plant motifs, surmounted by the royal coat of arms and flanked by small columns, complemented with armillary spheres. The Manueline armillary spheres appear at the tower's entrance, symbolizing Portugal's nautical explorations, and were used on King Manuel I's personal banner to represent Portuguese discoveries during his rule. The decorative carved, twisted rope and elegant knots also point to Portugal's nautical history and are common elements of the Manueline style.
On the outside of the lower bastion, the walls have spaces for 17 cannons with embrasures affording a view of the river. The upper tier of the bastion is crowned by a small wall with bartizans in strategic places, decorated by rounded shields with the cross of the Order of Christ encircling the platform. King Manuel I was a member of the Order of Christ, thus the cross of the Order of Christ is used numerous times on the parapets. These were a symbol of Manuel's military power, as the knights of the Order of Christ participated in several military conquests in that era. The bartizans, cylindrical turrets (guerites) in the corners that served as watchtowers, have corbels with zoomorphic ornaments and domes covered with ridges unusual in European architecture, topped with ornate finials. The bases of the turrets have images of beasts, including a rhinoceros. This rhinoceros is considered to be the first sculpture of such an animal in Western European art and probably depicts the rhinoceros that Manuel I sent to Pope Leo X in 1515.
