What Non-Pagans Need to Know About Fiction Featuring Pagan Gods
Tumblr media
In light of Marvel's Loki show dropping a second season and a new Percy Jackson series on the horizon, I want to say some things about how fandom spaces can be respectful of real-life pagan religion.
Let's get one thing out of the way: literally no one is saying you can't enjoy fiction that uses pagan gods and heroes as characters. No one is saying, "Stop writing stories about our gods." In fact, many ancient cultures wrote fiction about their gods -- look at Greek theater or the Norse Eddas. The act of writing fiction about the gods is not offensive in itself.
But please remember that this is someone's religion.
The gods are not "just archetypes." Their myths are not "just stories." Their personalities are not a matter of artistic interpretation. For many pagans, the gods are very much real in a literal sense. I don't think Thor is a metaphor or a symbol -- for me, Thor is a real, autonomous spiritual being who exists outside of human perceptions of him, and who I have chosen to build a relationship with. Even if you are a hardcore atheist, I would hope you could at least be respectful of the fact that, to many modern pagans, the gods are both very real and very important.
When authors are not respectful of this fact, they reduce the gods, these very real objects of worship, to fictional characters. And here's the thing about fictional characters: they are fundamentally tools for authors to use to draw a desired emotional response from an audience.
Dracula's personality and behavior is wildly different depending on who is writing him, because different authors use Dracula to create different reactions in their audiences. In the 1931 film starring Bela Lugosi, he's equal parts alluring and disturbing, a symbol of America's mixed desire and disdain for foreigners. In Nosferatu, he's more strictly frightening and disgusting. In Francis Ford Coppola's movie, he's a tragic, romantic figure clinging to the last scraps of his humanity. In Netflix's Castlevania, he's an incredibly powerful being who has grown bitter and apathetic in his immortality. All of this is Dracula, and all of it is fine, because Dracula is not and never has been a central figure in anyone's religion.
Let's take a look at what happens when authors give this same treatment to real gods:
In Hellenic polytheism, Apollo is one of the most beloved gods, both historically and today. Apollo loves humanity, and humanity loves him back. He is the god of sunlight and of medicine, but also of poetry and song. He is one of humanity's most consistent defenders when one of the other gods gets wrathful. And while he does have dangerous or wrathful aspects of his own (he's also the god of disease, after all), he's also kind and soft with humanity in a way other gods often aren't, at least in some historic sources.
In the Lore Olympus comic series, Apollo is a villain. He's characterized as an abuser, a manipulator, and a violent man child. LO!Apollo is downright hateful, because the author wants us to hate him. Lore Olympus is a retelling of a myth about an abduction and forced marriage. Lore Olympus is also a romance. In order to get the audience to sympathize with Hades and root for his relationship with Persephone, Rachel Smythe needed to make someone else the villain. Apollo is the most obvious and extreme character assassination in Smythe's work, but several other gods (notably Demeter) also get the asshole makeover to tell the story Smythe wants to tell.
Here's where this becomes a problem: Hellenic polytheism is a fairly small religious community, while Lore Olympus is a massively popular webtoon with 1.3 billion views as of August 2023, print books available from major retailers, a TV adaptation in the works, and a very active online fandom. Rachel Smythe currently has a MUCH bigger platform than any Hellenic polytheism practitioner. Smythe and other authors are shaping how modern culture views the Hellenic gods, and that has a very real impact on their worshipers.
This means "Apollo is an abusive asshole" is becoming a popular take online, and is even creeping into pagan communities. I've personally seen people be harassed for worshiping Apollo because of it. I've seen new pagans and pagan-curious folks who totally misunderstand the roles Apollo, Hades, and Persephone play in the Hellenic pantheon because of Lore Olympus and other modern works of fiction.
There are tons of other examples of this in modern pop culture, but I'll just rattle off a few of the ones that annoy me most: Rick Riordan depicting Ares/Mars as a brutish asshole hyped up on toxic masculinity; Rick Riordan depicting Athena as a mother goddess; Marvel depicting Thor as a dumb jock; Marvel depicting Odin as a cold, uncaring father; DC depicting Ares as purely evil; whatever the fuck the Vikings TV show was trying to do with seidr; the list goes on.
All of these are examples of religious appropriation. Religious appropriation is when sacred symbols are taken out of their original religious context by outsiders, so that the original meaning is lost or changed. It requires a power imbalance -- the person taking the symbols is usually part of a dominant religious culture. In many cases, the person doing the appropriation has a much bigger platform than anyone who has the knowledge to correct them.
When Rick Rioridan or Rachel Smythe totally mischaracterizes a Greek god to tell a story, and then actual Hellenic pagans get harassed for worshiping that god, that's religious appropriation.
Religious appropriation is a real issue. This isn't just pagans being sensitive. To use an extreme example: Richard Wagner and other German Romantic authors in the 19th century used the Norse gods and other Germanic deities as symbols in their work, which was a major influence on Nazi philosophy. Without Wagner, the Nazis would not have latched onto the Norse gods as symbols of their white supremacist agenda. To this day, there are white supremacist groups who claim to worship our gods or who use our religious imagery in their hate movement. We are still reckoning with the misinterpretation of our gods popularized by Wagner and other German Romantics almost 200 years ago.
Again, no one is saying you can't enjoy fiction based on pagan mythology. But there are a few things you can do to help prevent religious appropriation in fandom spaces:
Above all else, be mindful that while this may just be a story to you, it is someone's religion.
Recognize that enjoying fiction based on our gods does not mean you know our gods. You know fictional characters with the same names as our gods, who may or may not be accurate to real-life worship.
Do not argue with or try to correct pagans when we talk about our experience of our gods.
Don't invalidate or belittle pagan worship. Again, this mostly comes down to recognizing that our religion is totally separate from your fandom. We aren't LARPing or playing pretend. Our sacred traditions are real and valid.
If you see other people in your fandom engaging in religious appropriation, point out what they are doing and why it isn't okay.
Please tag your fandom content appropriately on social media. Always tag the show, movie, book, etc. that a post is about in addition to other relevant tags. This allows pagans to block these fandom tags if we don't want to see them and prevents fandom content showing up in religious tags.
For example, if I'm posting about Athena from the Percy Jackson books, I would tag the post #athena #athenapjo #percyjackson #pjo. You get the idea.
And if fiction sparks your interest and you want to learn more about the actual worship of the gods, you can always ask! Most pagans love talking about our gods and trading book recs.
If you are writing fiction based on real mythology, talk to people who worship those gods. Ask them what a respectful portrayal would look like. If possible, include a note in your finished work reminding audiences that it is a work of fiction and not meant to accurately portray these gods.

Since I legit cannot contain my excitement over this beautiful artwork from @mjtheartist04, screw it, we doubling up and adding more lore to the villain of Ain't That a Bite and the king of Terror himself
Art by @mjtheartist04 go follow her :)
(be sure to go on the tag atab-megafauna for more atab Kaiju)
Tumblr media
Ain't That a bite Character/Kaiju Drop: HORIZIO/ KING GHIDORAH
"God dreamt of a nightmare, and it took the form of a three headed dragon"
Tumblr media
So this is where I tell you that Horizio and the 3 headed golden god of destruction are one of the same, it was honestly a challenge to adapt King Ghidorah without doing something that's already been done. However I saw that Horizio had nothing going for him, so it led to a massive character change where horizio went from a man who went insane from extradimensional energy, to the human form of King Ghidorah.
Hence this art here drawn by my friend birbdroogan
Tumblr media
I wanted to do something similar to how he was during King Of The Monsters, with each head having their own personalities
Tumblr media
I wanted to take the more dominating side of the middle head, the cocky side of the right head, and the somewhat playful personality of the left head(so yeah, like the meme)
Also I won't get into specifics yet because it does spoil things but this Ghidorah has won before, and he reveled in it, he loves to win, he loves to destroy, and he absolutely loves drama
He was weakened from his victory though and was stuck to a human form(normal where he's from, he's the only one who can do this) however arguably he loves it more since he can go after certain people specifically.
He's a cult leader for a Kaiju dominated world because he decides "wanna know what would be funny? If I got more powerful and I get to watch everything burn down....and release all these funky guys on the earth"
Abilities? Idk you'll have to see
Anyway design inspo time
So obviously it's Alastor from the suit and all that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loki with the hair
Tumblr media
Now my favorite
Tumblr media
3 heads
Tumblr media
3 yellow stripes in his hair (you can't see it here but I promise they exist)
(probably gonna be drawing his original form since I'm much better at drawing kaiju than I am with people)
I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED THIS, GO FOLLOW @mjtheartist04 or we will fight you with hammers

My favorite LoL skin (with photos) for each Heartsteel member (excluding their Heartsteel/Prestige Heartsteel and Base skins)
So I absolutely adore the Heartsteel skin line, and for Aphelios, Kayn, and Yone, their Heartsteel skins are arguably my favorite skins of theirs (especially Yone’s Prestige Heartsteel skin). HOWEVER. I want to talk about some other amazing skins too. Three of the ones I’ll mention come from the same skin line, but listen, it’s a beautiful line. Also note: These are based on the splash art. I know some of the aesthetics change when translated to a player model. Ok let’s GOOOOO!
Tumblr media
Aphelios: Spirit Blossom Aphelios
Tumblr media
I love the COLORS of this skin. I love Spirit Blossom Aphelios’ hair design (like damn Phel go off with the man bun/small pony I see you), outfit/accessories, the markings on his face, and how his horns are opposite to Alune’s. (Also can we discuss how Alune also looks so pretty here like omg. I’m so glad they made sure she fit into this as well.) But Aphelios just looks softer than some of his other skins and it’s an interesting vibe from him. I dig it!
Ezreal: Faerie Court Ezreal & Prestige Heavenscale Ezreal.
(Listen I genuinely can’t fucking pick between them so he gets two.)
Tumblr media
THE OUTFIT (with all its wing motifs). THE WINGS. THE PINK HAIR. HIS expression!! I love the redesign of his gauntlet as well. Another thing that I really enjoy is how they managed to keep his face markings and make them unique. His face markings are a trademark element of Ezreal’s base skin so I’m glad they kept those here. AHHHHH HE JUST LOOKS SO GOOD. This is just such a fun reimagine for his character.
Tumblr media
This might be one of his two newest skins but holy fuck it’s already one of my favs. His HAIR. MY GOD IT’S SO GOOD?? His pose and expression exude so much power and confidence. His gauntlet with the draconic claw and his horns is just so fun. Also that OUTFIT? His outfit genuinely looks amazing. The color combo of light blue, maroon, and gold is just EXCELLENT. Again, they also kept face markings of some kind, even if they moved from his cheeks to his forehead.
Kayn: Snow Moon Kayn
Tumblr media
Kayn’s skins are always fun because you really get 3-in-1 with Kayn, his shadow assassin form, and Rhaast. I love a good black and red (with gold accents) theme and the Loki-esque horns, as well as the addition of the furs on his basic Kayn form are really cool. And the shaddow assassin’s hair. My goodness I do love a man with long white hair 😂 (this will appear again later). I love the color contrast between the shadow assassin and Rhaast designs as well. Also Rhaast looks badass. Terrifying, but still badass.
K’Sante: Prestige Empyrean K’Sante
Tumblr media
This skin is so fucking cool. We get to see his face here unlike the original Empyrean K’Sante skin. I love the color scheme with the purple, gold, white, and pink as well as the designs on the clothes/his weapons. The little pink on his face also adds a really small but eye-catching detail that I very much enjoy. Also Lil Nas X helped design this skin and I think that’s so fucking cool.
Sett: Spirit Blossom Sett
Tumblr media
Ok listen yes a bit of the reasoning for all these is that the characters themselves look fine as fuck. But holy shit look at Sett here. LOVE his long white hair (hehe what did I say it’s a pattern) with his ears here. That outfit and the accessories are stunning. And again the color palette for the spirit blossom line is just so pretty. Sett just looks so in charge and powerful here. He really is the boss. (Also shoutout to the [I believe] first instance of canon SettPhel which happened in the lore/voice interactions for this line.)
Yone: Spirit Blossom Yone
Tumblr media
Look at him. LOOK AT YONE. There is something about Yone with longer white hair that is just so…right, even if it’s tied back or braided. All the beautiful shades of purple in his outfit too! I love. I also like how, besides the horns and his hands/arms, he seems almost human and he’s not stuck to his mask like in his base skin (though I do love his base skin). He also just gives off really pleasant vibes in this. I cannot explain it lmao.
These are my thoughts! These are just my opinions, and frankly so many of these champions have so many amazing skins. I’d love to hear your favorites if you have opinions!

Okay Loki S2 E5 Reaction/ Review Time
SPOILERS AHEAD BEWARE
"Science / Fiction"
OH MY GOD THAT TITLE
I cant believe I was right about all of them being scattered across different time line branches, Loki having to get his friends back and them not having memories of him :O
Also the fact that the fans predicted Casey to be a dangerous / criminal because he was always so gentle in the TVA and then we see him breaking out of freaking Alcatraz?! And the fish references too XD
B15 being a Doctor was so freaking wholesome, she really just wants to help people whetevee she is :D
OB being a Scifi Author and Scientist was just perfect XDDDD
AND WE FINALLY GOT MOBIUS ON A JETSKI THIS IS A WIN FOR THE FANDOM
And again, the fact that the fans immediately predicted that Mobius was a (single) dad in his life, because they spotted a couple toys in front of the house in the mid season trailer :D
(I could literally hear the fanfiction authors melt into a puddle at the potential of Loki x single dad Mobius XD)
And the fact that he isnt just a Dad, no he is a SINGLE FATHER of TWO SONS
The freaking parallel of Mobius' two sons and young Thor & Loki?!
One being a lil mischievous prankster and the other (most likely the older) one who has to keep him out of trouble?! And the fact that he said he loves snakes?!?! That is just straight up a Thor reference?!
No wonder Mobius knows how to deal with people like Loki XD
But as much as I like the parallel of the two sons, I also feel kinda weird about what it could imply for Mobius, like does that mean he is supposed to be a mirror or opposite of Odin? A version of a dad that didnt mess up with their parenting? That this is why Loki feels drawn to Mobius? Is that what we were supposed to conclude from that?
I know we joke about Loki liking older men, and of course Loki has his daddy issues, but if Mobius is an opposite of Odin then what does that mean for Lokius?
Now to some more lore related stuff:
Can I just say that the spaghettification effect is absolutely terrifying?!?! (as stupid as it may sound) Seeing people get spaghettified fills me with just as much dread as the Dusting from the Snap, but it is so much more horrifying because it looks so brutal compared to how "gentle" the Dusting effect is....
Then Loki & Sylvie's talk about being selfish, about their own wants & needs
"Whats wrong with wanting sth?" -  she asks Loki, but in reality, has Loki ever gotten anything he truly desired? (At least L1130 hasnt, man went straight from the Events of Thor 1, to Thanos to the New York attack, he was never able to mend his relationship with Thor or find friends...)
Now... Sylvie, she still frustrates me.... I do get that she wants a life, but you cant just stab or ignore your way out of everything... plus their world is still ending as a matter fact...
It literally took her fav lil branch getting wiped out, to realize that she was wrong, that Loki was right all along, and that was AFTER she had just convinced Loki to give up his quest... because "wanting his friends back" would make him just as "selfish" as her wanting a life... But the difference is, that while Sylvie would chose her life, instead of helping fix everything, ignoring the casualties it brings, Loki would be self sacrificial enough to give up his own needs, which he literally was about to do, until Sylvie got back because she finally wanted to help avoid the impending doom that threatened to destroy them all.
I think we all kinda knew Loki's drive wasnt necessarily saving the TVA, but wanting/ needing his friends back and wanting to keep them save, but Loki actually admitting that he "wants his friends back, that he doesnt want to be alone"
THAT BROKE ME
Especially with the motive of "no one deserves to be alone" but the Lokis only ever having themselves to find comfort, and if they tried to change that, the TVA showed up to prune them, loneliness was literally what drove Classic Loki out of his hiding and into the arms of the TVA.
And Loki saying "Without them (his friends), where do I belong?"
I didnt know it was possible, but that broke me even more... he just wants a place where he is wanted and safe...
Then the time slipping, Loki being able to Control it?! IS THAT HOW THE MCU INTRODUCES LOKI BEING A WORLD WALKER?!
Loki realizing "Its not about the when, where or why. Its about the Who" (god that part was so sweet, right in the FEELS, it was so over for me, my heart cant take much more of this)
And finally Loki chosing to rewrite "The Story"... actually "Play God" thats now full confirmation of Loki God of Stories right?! RIGHT?! I wanna see my boy, God of Stories Loki is one of my Fave Lokis :DDDD

these bitches, specifically human marshall lee and human gary prince, are so wolfstar coded and i will die on this hill
Tumblr media
in this essay i will
CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR FIONA & CAKE EPS 1-8
okay first let’s talk about human marshall lee.
what do we know about him from eps 1-8 Adventure Time: Fiona & Cake?
Tumblr media
black leather jacket
mommy issues™️
from rich family that he doesn’t agree with
doesn’t want to be his family’s heir
mother only accepts him if he fits into a certain mold
plays guitar (popular sirius hc)
“bad boy” who secretly grew up rich
cares very deeply about the people he loves (which are not his biological family)
punk rock fashion and attitude
talkative and fairly outgoing
shorter than gary
obviously, most of what we know about younger sirius is based off of headcanons but marshall seems like such a sirius variant.
now onto to gary prince-
Tumblr media
sweaters, jackets and scarves dressed very cozily
old man energy
very dedicated to his work (like remus with academic validation)
ambitious
over-thinker to the max
often lost in his own little world
fantasy as escapism
creates in depth stories and lore (writer remus is a widely accepted hc)
introverted but still stands up for his beliefs
has a nighttime secret (sneaking into the bakery)
broke
quick temper
tall n lanky
nerd
he is so AU remus
now moving onto their dynamic together- so many scenes between them could easily be applicable to wolfstar.
figure 1. punk (also flirting)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
figure 2. marshall wanting to know all about gary’s special interest/writing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
figure 3. comforting over mommy issues
Tumblr media Tumblr media
figure 4. gary pulling (saving) marshall from his manipulative mother
Tumblr media
there were so many scenes that just made me feel like i was reading a wolfstar fanfic. the way marshall listens to gary and tries to help him achieve his dreams, even though he doesn’t have many concrete ambitions of his own, and the way gary protects and comforts marshall lee screams wolfstar. additionally, the archetypes marshall and gary fall into are very similar to the archetypes that sirius and remus fall into, which consequently creates a similar relationship dynamic.
tldr: marshall lee and gary prince are a wolfstar variant because they’re literally AUs of each other.
edit credits for the screen caps used: (these edits helped me to realize just how similar they are to wolfstar)

I caved. I watched Loki S2
Loki season two was fine but too many of you are being insufferable about the series itself and its lore. Timelines and universes are not interchangeable things–a universe contains timelines according to the series' lore itself and I don't understand how people do not understand this. MCU Loki now holds the timelines of 199999. Quit throwing the 616 thing around (looking at you Feige) and talking about "worlds". Variants are the same people across timelines according to logic, that's why some of the Lokis in S1E5 (iirc episode number) made no sense–Mobius did.
The first season remains one of the worst things I've ever had the misfortune to see, so to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the second is something.
Be warned–pleasantly surprised does not mean "omg it's perfect" it means "I did not expect this measure of respect for character and narrative, there's some good points and there's definitely bad points".
Still, the first three episodes were boring. The narrative in them and in some places of the second three was clunky. Things were underexplained and impersonal, both rushed and scattered. X-05 did not appear outside of the first season premiere, not even the first season proper (according to the internet because I indeed had zero recollection of him and refuse to rewatch S1) yet the second season treats him as if the audience is familiar with him–and it's confusing as heck. I cannot even properly recall what exactly happened in those episodes because it was so clunky and scattered and half explained. Especially the characters and their goals and stakes. I barely cared for Loki's, let alone anyone else's–well except Ouroboros. I love that guy.
Wow, we have to save all these freed timelines? Sure. I mean it's the right thing to do, so let's do it. It would've been so easy to actually get the audience to personally care–have Loki realize in those infinite timelines, there were some he could be happy in. His mother, his brother, even his father to whom his attachment is not resolved, there had to be timelines where they were happy and safe, perhaps even with him. In some of those timelines, Loki gets his revenge on Thanos, he gets to heal. He comes to term with his birth and heritage, he remedies the wrongs he has been done and has done to others in turn. Yes, those timelines deserve to exist, because Loki should know he deserves to be happy too. His "friends" too. Those stories deserve to exist.
Speaking of under-explained... so at one point Loki just... gains control over time jumps? Like that? Did I miss something in the whole thing? Like if it's because it's him, according to The Who being what is important ("in magic", I would have expected) then say it.
Some pieces were predictable. The whole interrogation of X-05 match one and two, the ending path itself (I was surprised by the tree thing though), Loki pruning himself (did that scene really need to be drawn out like that? We get what's happening, get on with it).
Some pieces were drawn out like the self-pruning, like retrieving Victor Timely. The whole time I was like "You've seen him, you can block objects in mid-air and teleport people in cages, snatch him and throw him in a portal so he can see the TVA instead of just talking to him and convince him–why does he need to be convinced?? Show him!!?" Details like these, like the machine that makes the shrinking cubes being left at all in the cell, Ravonna not actually looking to see if any other minutemen were considering her offer before compressing them all (I guess they had to slim down the cast, but man), Loki the Jotun with super strength having to run kilometers to catch one human–silly.
Things that were left out–Thanos, completely. The Jotun heritage. Loki being the scapegoat child in the narcissistic royal family, all his conditioning. It is said he wants a throne, it is never acknowledged why: being groomed to do so since childhood through mentions he was born to be a king, upbringing, education, treatment by family and society. The gender fluidity and sexuality, though with the MCU's regard for those things, it's likely better they left them alone–though the lack of shapeshifting was miffing. New York was handled better than I would've expected, but still breezily.
Now to be fair, many things were good. B-5 outright stating that the pruning the TVA does is an atrocity and convincing others. I'm ambivalent about Loki and Mobius–their relationship in the first season was a terrible one, but they genuinely roped me in in the second. Some things were funny in that delicate way that doesn't need clownery and one-liners that I'd been missing ever since the first two Thor movies. Ouroboros (especially in episode 5–ouch, too close to home). The soundtrack, amazing. The acting came across as more heartfelt. I even managed to tolerate Sylvie in the last few episodes–and oh yeah, leaving romance of any kind out, completely. Thank fuck. Loki actually being the main character of his own series. The fifth and sixth episodes. The sets, the props also felt real. The final outfit is growing on me. The dialogues, the interactions, the camera work, my gods, some parts were amazing. I am willing to rewatch it to make more sense of things, and look at other MCU works to see if it will impact them. I had given up on the MCU–Loki roped me in, Loki gave me back some interest when I thought it was dead for good.
Oh I'm still mad all my searches for comics appearances are cluttered with MCU stuff. I'll be mad until it calms out. "What if it never-" then I guess I'll never stop holding a grudge and complaining.
In the end, I'm just glad Loki got his not-terrible ending. I don't like that his final choice and chance was to sacrifice himself and all his needs for others, sitting in a tree holding the 199999 universe's timelines together, alone after saying teary eyed that he doesn't want to be alone. But it's still better than how he was treated and discarded from T:Ragnarok to Infinity War, and it doesn't exclude Loki from showing up again, some way or the other.
Obligatory link to the Loki comics reading list.

Witchy Timed Ramblings Part 3
Tumblr media
Multiverse of Meh
Of the things Bayonetta 3 did I actually found the multiverse interesting until they ruined it with the Bayonetta 1 & 2 separation at the end. This games lore isn’t that deep but it is fascinating to me.
If you never bothered I’ll run down for you and explain why I think the multiverse makes sense. In layman’s terms:
The universe was originally a singular thing.
An event escalated into what the games call the “first armageddon” which split that reality into three.
Heaven, Hell, the Chaos between were born.
Jubileus, the supposed creator of the original reality, was put into an eternal slumber but ultimately remains the ruler of Heaven.
Those who rebelled resided in Hell which was born during the split. It’s ruler, queen sheba, was born alongside Hell and rules it even now.
The Chaos between was eventually given to the charge of a supernatural being named Aesir. It was Aesir’s power that gave the world of chaos shape.
Eventually Aesir pities humanity and divides his power among them to grant them free will.
The “left eye” and “right eye” were given to two human clans who eventually become the Lumen Sages and the Umbra Witches.
Once bequeathed Aesir’s soul splits in two and he disappears.
What Bayonetta 3 adds is that the World of Chaos specifically is made up a multiverse. A near infinite reflection of choices, causality, and timelines born from time travel manipulation which makes sense upon consideration.
It is the “world of chaos” for a reason. While Heaven & Hell (and their denizens) predate everything and thus exist in singularity the world of man does not. There is no true order to it all with Aesir gone so there exist as many reflections of Earth as there are humans to shape it’s future.
There’s also other pocket dimensions and spaces between all these multiverse, heaven, and hell. Purgatory is the most notable and is used often in Bayo 1 & 2.
Tumblr media
Multi-Issues
The issue Bayo 3 brought after introducing the multiverse was two fold I think. I did not expect them to spend much time in the ones we visited nor give much time to the Cereza’s inside them. There’s only so much you can cover in that regard.
The issues it did bring up with splitting Bayonetta 1 & 2 into separate worlds. 2 references from 1 heavily to the point that we see Jubileus’ failed vessel next to Balder when he dies quite literally as the second game starts.
This is an issue because Jubileus, like Rodin, predates the multiverse. There is only one. 2 treats itself like a true sequel to 1 and the Cereza in 2 is treated as the same Cereza from Bayonetta 1.
Claiming they’re different cheapens how well 2 fixed and improved 1′s story but you could normally chalk it up to similar universes. Just a hair’s width in change happened there...except Jubileus happened.
Jubileus can’t exist in both worlds. This point is broken even further if the Bayonetta anime is canon. The only way I know to rectify that writing error is to claim that Jubileus is still alive.
Balder attempted to revive her using a statue as a physical vessel with the ‘eyes of the world’. So if you ignore Sheba punching the literal soul of Jubileus into the sun you can just say the revival failed and her true form yet slumbers in Heaven.
The second issue is the Eyes of the World themselves.
Tumblr media
Eyes and Eves
While they offered the World of Chaos stability they also left it open. Balder nearly revived god using the eyes which would’ve destroyed the Trinity of Realities and Loptr nearly regained his lost powers as the god Aesir to enslave the Multiverse.
If you possessed the eyes you were godlike and this left the world at risk so Loki chose to gamble on humanities free will and used his power as Lord Aesir’s “good half” to erase them. This proved to work as humanities will kept the world turning.
Bayonetta 3 then spits on this I feel. Before the eyes were the worlds cornerstone but now the “Arch-Eve” is which is an even worse situation if you think about it.
Kill a Bayonetta (or Rosa or Jeanne) of a world and it just collapses. No rhythm or reason to it at all. It just fucking shatters and disappears into the void. Singularity only got as far as he did due to how messed up that system is.
It also ruins the free will notion of Bayonetta 2. The world shouldn’t need such pillars anymore. It is what it is now so to throw that out for an even weaker, if not completely undefined, concept as an individual that anchors reality feels insulting....or perhaps lazy.
They couldn’t think of a real reason for universes to be collapsing so they made one but didn’t bother to explain it. It irks me on a core level and now I have to live with it...I think?
I hate it yet the worlds seem fine once Singularity is dead alongside all the Cereza’s. First the world collapses if Bayonetta dies but now it’s okay so long as she and singularity are both dead?
Its such a headache...

Tumblr media
So I just finished Loki, and I think I know where the MCU is going. This is going to sound like a wild conspiracy theory, but if it happens, Avengers 5 and 6 will make Endgame look tiny in comparison.
Spoilers ahead for any and all Kang related developments, as well as some Spider-Man stuff.
The groundwork so far:
Loki season one ended with the reveal of He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror who stopped all the other Kang variants from existing by erasing the multiverse. He did this to prevent a war between the Kang variants that would cause all universes to explode or something. Ominous and spooky!
He dies and the multiverse happens, meaning the Kang war is going to happen, and it's going to happen soon.
Then Spider-Man no way home happened and Spidey and Dr Strange messed around in the multiverse. We'll come back to this.
Now I thought the show What If? was supposed to offer a teaser for the Kang War.
Tumblr media
For those of you who skipped it, What If? takes us on a trip through the multiverse, showing us new takes on beloved characters. These included Peggy Carter but as a super soldier, Dr Strange but as an eldritch horror, and Thor but as a frat bro.
I figured the Kang War would follow our typical MCU cast that we all know and love and then these guys swoop in and help stop the bad guys in a big climactic moment, like the "on your left" in Endgame. I don't think that's the case anymore. And it's all thanks to one small line of dialogue at the very end of Loki season 2.
At the very end of Loki season 2, the TVA is restructured to be on the lookout for variants of Kang. One of the workers said a variant was sighted near the 616 branch. That is the single line that made everything click.
For those unaware (like I was when I first heard the line, I did a bit of research before writing all this out!), the MCU used to be branch 199999 of the multiverse, but has recently been renamed to branch 616. 616 is also the branch of the main comic universe, which essentially separates the two multiverses indefinitely. But that is actually a genius move, one that lets the films build their own multiverse without needing to worry about prior lore from the comics. And What If? is only a small sampling of what that multiverse has to offer.
Tumblr media
No Way Home! I told you we'd come back to it. This one film has been the biggest project to flesh out the MCU multiverse. We all thought it was fan service, but we couldn't see the big picture yet.
The climax of the film involves the Spider-Man from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and the Spider-Man from the Amazing Spider-Man films coming into the MCU 616 universe to help MCU Spidey fight his villains. This explicitly connects these three franchises into the same multiverse! But it doesn't stop there! The end credits scene (as well as Morbius' end credits scene) connected it to Sony's Venom-verse! That's four franchises that the Kang War can pull from, but it's going to be even bigger!!
Tumblr media
There's one small throwaway line in Across the Spider-Verse that connects the Spider-Verse films to the MCU. Miguel O'Hara complains about the various things going wrong across the Spider-Verse, including "Dr Strange and that nerdy kid from Earth 199999". Earth 199999 is the old name for the MCU. Miguel is upset over the events of No Way Home.
Tumblr media
We could see some (or all) of these Spideys could show up in the Kang War. Tell me that wouldn't be way cooler than anything Endgame did!
I don't think it will stop there either! I remember one project really stood out to me when they were announcing their phase five and six plans for the MCU.
Tumblr media
The first X-Men project in the MCU, and it's a continuation of a thirty year old cartoon. Plus, they greenlit it for a second season before the first was even released. X-Men are the fourth best selling single issue comic series of all time (behind Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman), making them a huge IP. Making their first project in the MCU something as niche as this feels like a slight misstep. Unless, this project is aiming to tie the original cartoon into the multiverse, letting these versions of the X-Men fight in the Kang War. I guess we'll find out when the show debuts in a few months.
There's also one more thing that they could possibly tie in, that I don't think they will.
Tumblr media
I don't think they'll actually do it, but it would be really really funny if they did.
(Also Insomniac's Spider-Man games complicate this whole thing a lot, but I've already wrote way too much so I'll cover that in a future post if this one does well)

More loki stuff
(cw: talk of suicidal ideation, bad mental health. Sylvie hate. Season 2 episode 1 spoilers)
i feel like loki, god as much as i love loki (character not series in this instance) is an example of a near too much character. I love all of his plot and lore, but its making me worry for the sake of his character that its getting hard to fit everything in. like. On top of the genderfluid and bisexual things being canonised but not recognised, i feel like theres so much unresolved with him that im just itching to see. Like actually think about the last time loki being a literal fucking frost giant was mentioned. I feel like this should at least be brought up a smidge more. In a series thats all about references and sneaky details i would appreciate even the smallest call back to his whole, ya know, being a magic snow sorcerer. The condensed water warlock. Like. Yk. Theres just so much going on and so much untouched and I am so fearful marvel is going to just... not address any of it. Like. God. For a show thats so insistent on its themes of self love and inner turmoil i would literally die if we got, like, anything related to mental health with loki. Please, for the love of all thats good and holy, if msrvel could drop the powerful sll mighty bad bitch i dont need no man annoying girl new protagonist (looking at you, sylvie.) for five minutes please, and just, talk about lokis mental health, i would be so mother fucking helpful. They literally went out of their way to show in the scene where loki steals the pruning stick from x-5 and has no hesitation to zap himself ( i know you could argue the situation was dire enough to where this would make sense, but loki also knows full damn well that this going wrong would spaghetti his bits and knows acting rashly is a bad idea yet still does it) was an example of suicidal ideation i would love to see represented well.
i just want loki to feel complete.

I want more of your based takes to giggle at so for the fandom ask, Marvel please
My narcissistic ass loves the opportunity to talk about my faves Red, enjoy
This will be an amalgamation of all the 'verses', im not only sticking to the mcu.
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Miles Morales! Ever since the first Spiderverse came out i loved him. I genuinely relate(d) to him a lot, and his story and struggles resonated with me a ton. I don't like saying any fictional character 'helped' me, but he really really did.
Tumblr media
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Mobius.
Listen, i have my own beef with the Loki show (beef, as in, I wanna hunt whoever came up with that idea for sport) but Mobius is like the light at the end of the tunnel, like the tasty chocolate with some shitty toy inside. ITS OWEN WILSON PLAYING A NERVOUS, CUNTY, NERDY AGENT
Tumblr media
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
Ultron.
An awakened AI? Who visits the internet for 5 minutes and decides its time to genocide humanity? Slay. He was also like, really sassy and snarky and you already know i'm a sucker for these kinds of characters,
Tumblr media
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
MARTIN LI MARTIN LI MARTIN LI AKA MR NEGATIVE
I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT THIS MAN. I LOVE HIM. I HAVE CONSUMED E V E R Y PIECE OF MEDIA HE'S IN AND I AM STARVING. For all the lore i memorised for him i might as well be hired by marvel to think about this guy
Tumblr media
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
I think we all know who this is gonna be.
My boy, my beloved npd having smartass (its canon because i say so), Tony.
I always was and will be Team Iron Man, RDJ is an icon that played him flawlessly. My man does not deserve the bashing he gets in the fandom nowadays.
Yes, he's selfish, narcissistic, cocky and a privileged ass, but all of it is a win in my book. If people don't like that, GOOD, more for ME.
If it wasn't Tony, then my problematic fave would probably be Redskull.
Tumblr media
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Loki. There's a reason my favorite scenes with the guy are:
"I HAVE BEEN FALLING FOR THIRTY MINUTES"
Him getting thrown by his brother in Ragnarok
He's pathetic, he's a loser
Tumblr media
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell):
Doctor Strange, any iteration of him, be it comics, cartoons or Britishface Cucumberstache. I love him sm, but in a "puts you in a jar and shakes it violently" way. I'd send him there to see what tomfoolery he'd get up to.
i think what these asks do, is show that I'm a sucker for the cocky bastards with flamboyant tendencies

You know what I just realized about that scene in Ragnarok when Loki’s death is acted out, and Loki’s actor says “I didn’t do it for him”? Everyone on Asgard either is under the impression Thor informed his father that Loki was dead and made sure Odin knew that Loki didn’t do any of it for Odin, or they think that Odin—without being told—just knows that Loki would only do this for Thor and would also never let Thor think it wasn’t all for Thor. The Asgardians probably had some very interesting thoughts when that scene played out the first time
Ok listen I've got a lot of thoughts on Loki's Inelegant Propaganda Play but the relevant one here is that there are two Thor/Loki relationships that exist within the reality of Asgard.
There is the personal relationship that Thor and Loki share, which is private to the point of secretiveness, quiet and loving, but also insular, self-obsessed, and fraught with all the things they cannot be to one another.
Then there is the public relationship, which is one which is cultivated for an image and a purpose for which the Crown can make use of. And in that relationship, Thor and Loki are Devoted Brothers (tm). Best of companions! An unparalleled pair! Undefeated in combat! The platonic ideal of Asgardian brotherhood! Close, but in an Appropriate, Manly way! This relationship is the one setting them up to the public eye to rule together as king and chancellor, and it's propaganda, but fun propaganda! And people like it, for the most part! What fun adventure of the young princes will the skalds sing of next? Look there now, here they come on parade, the golden sons of Odin. Don't they make a splendid, glittering sight to behold?
And sure there are people who roll their eyes at the depiction of Thor as this booming, cheerful, bear of a man and Loki as his candid, easygoing jokester of a companion, bc let me tell you, my aunt/cousin/brother-in-law works at the palace and they'll tell you that the first prince is as morose as they come and the second prince? Let's not even talk about the second prince, he's awful. Just scandalous. But the skalds will never tell you that.
This is all to say! That Loki's bad PR play is exactly the sort of thing that Asgard is absolutely used to. The Crown absolutely would put out stories lionizing the royal family; it totally fits that Loki, led astray during that thing on Midgard (which nobody has a great number of details about), would come back apologising to his faithful brother whom he had wronged. That's some peak Devoted Brothers lore! It's the perfect end to a beautiful tale of brotherhood that has been being told for as long as Thor and Loki have been alive! The people love that shit!
This is also to say that sometimes all-seeing Allfather will release some personal facts about his sons that his sons did not wish released, snippets of personal conversations that were said in private, gestures that were done in secrecy. And when he does, the public doesn't necessarily cotton on to it, but his sons do. He likes to remind them they are always being watched. He likes them to know that their lives aren't their own.

[Falling down from a tree]: Greeting, friend! I had another idea for Revna. Imagine that when Atreus discovers that Tyr was actually Odin this entire time using and manipulating them, he immediately thinks of Björn and Revna and since couldn’t get Björn he decides to go to Asgard to get Revna and take her to a safe place.
In Asgard, Revna was helping Thrud with a task Thor requested, then suddenly Atreus appears and tried to convince Revna that Asgard isn’t a safe place for her and that he can help her. But she denies, then Atreus puts her over his shoulder and run away with her, of course with Thrud going after them, and Atreus opens a portal to go somewhere else, leaving Thrud behind.
In this new place, Atreus tries to explain that he only want to protect her just like he wants for his brother. Obviously Revna gets angry and attacks him, but before she couldn run, he angrily grabs her and he ties her hands around a tree.
Then basically after that he makes a bonfire and starts to talk to with her about Björn while Revna tries to free herself from the ropes xD
(Sitting on a boulder) Are you alright? That was quite the fall. Let's see what treat we have this time. (Reads the ask and smiles) Atreus. Atreus. Atreus. You will never learn. Let the words weave together.
It is said - keep your friends close and your enemies closer; Atreus thought he was doing that in regards to the All-Father - Odin - but it would seem that the old man was one step ahead of him and his group of resistance. Atreus looked at the fire with unbelieving eyes - Odin was disguised as Tyr and killed Brok; he was manipulating and using them this whole time and none of them were able to see it but now, Atreus saw everything. Odin wasn't to be trusted - not after what he did - and then a familiar person came to his mind.
Revna, the girl in Asgard that reminded him of Björn for some reason that he still wasn't able to depict. Her long dark brown hair and golden eyes looked so much like Björn that he began seeing her as a potential sister and as her brother, Atreus needed to save her from Odin before she ended up hurt or worse, killed.
H needed to save her now, but first, he needed to find her; hopefully, she wasn't in Asgard.
[Helheim]
"Remind me again, why did Father want us to come to Helheim? Garm isn't here anymore, something Loki and his father did to him." Thrud as she looked around the ruined landscape.
"There some kind of lore here that the All-Father wants and he wanted us to get it. If I knew what kind of lore he was after, I could have told him but he wanted it from the original source."Revna said as she looked through one of the chests that was cluttered with stuff - weapons, armor pieces, and other things, what kind of lore would the All-Father want in a place like this?
"Well, do you know what kind of book or scroll the All-Father is after?" Thrud asked.
"Something about the history of the Jotunn, anything that could help him understand the mask and that rift in his office. Hey, I found something!" Revna pulled out a book and read the title out, "The History of Jotunn Artifacts. This could be what the All-Father could be looking for." Revna smiled as she looked at Thrud, who chuckled and gave Revna a thumbs up when suddenly a gateway opened; making the girls on edge. Thrud reached for her swords and stared at the gateway when a familiar face walked out of the gateway.
"Loki? What are you doing here?" Revna asked as her eyes narrowed at the Jotunn but Loki just walked up to Revna and grabbed her wrist.
"Come with me, Revna, you're not safe in Asgard. The All-Father is a manipulating bastard who kills innocent people. I can take you somewhere safe." Loki said as he pulled on Revna's wrist to get him to come with him but she just snatched her arm away from him.
"I'm not going anywhere with you, Loki. I'm perfectly fine with Thrud and her family. I don't know what happened with you and the All-Father but that has nothing to do with us. Now, leave before we take you down and take your mask back to the All-Father." Revna said in a warning tone of voice.
Loki looked at Revna then looked at Thrud - who was ready to strike at him with her swords - but quicker than lightning, Loki grabbed Revna by her arm and yanked her forward before dipping; placing her over his shoulder before booking it in the direction of the gateway. Thrud chased after him but he was in the gateway door and it closed before disappearing before Thrud could get inside.
"Revna!" Thrud cried as she looked around for anywhere they could have teleported. Revna was gone and Loki had her; this was not good. Did he find out that Revna was actually Björn in a female body? That's not possible...right?
[Meanwhile - In Midgard]
"Get your hands off me, Jotunn!" Revna yelled as she struggled in Loki's grip as he walked into the cabin with her still over his shoulder, once he managed to close the door, he placed her down and stepped away from her.
"Calm down, Revna, I'm not going to hurt you. Odin is evil and I just want to protect you...just like I want to protect my brother. Do you know him? His name is Björn the Great Bear." Loki asked her but she just glared at her.
"No! I'm not family with your brother and I don't want to know him! I just wanted you to leave me the hell alone!" Revna said as she punched Loki in his nose, making him fall to the ground on his backside before she turned and began to walk in the direction of the door but she was suddenly knocked on the ground, and her hands were placed behind her back as rope found themselves around her wrists and tied rather tightly. She struggled against her binds as she was picked up and placed on a bed across from another bed where Loki exhaled as he took a seat.
"I'm sorry about that, Revna, but I can't let you return to Asgard; Odin is up to no good and you need to be protected, just like Björn. You know, you remind me a lot of my brother, he was stubborn just like you, he never understood that he was meant to be protected and loved instead of becoming a warrior but he decided to defy his father and train under some bad people, like Freya's son - Baldur - and Thor's Sons - Magni and Modi." Loki went on and on about his brother while Revna used her hidden blade to slowly cut the ropes.
"So, you are obsessed with your brother because he wanted to be a warrior but you and your father didn't want him to be one so you tried to keep him weak? Yeah, model Father and brother right there." Revna said as she rolled her eyes.
"You just don't understand, just like Björn didn't understand, you both are meant to be protected not fighting battles or getting yourselves in dangerous situations. I'm going to find him and bring him home, then I am going to protect both of you because no one messes with a Jotunn's Sibling." Loki said with locked teeth and narrowed eyes; almost like a snarl.
"What does that have to do with me? I'm not your sister." Revna protested.
"You will be." Loki smirked at the girl before him. Revna now had another reason to stay away from Loki when she was back to normal as the bear.

Hello SPG enjoyer! I was inspired by someone new to a different fandom I was in reaching out to people on Tumblr to get to know them. So now I’m doing something similar since I’m new to SPG!
Have you heard of/listened to The Mechanisms?
What is your favorite album/song?
Which bot is your favorite?
What is your favorite photo?
Do you have a fanbot?
If you could go anywhere in kazooland, where would you go?
- @steambot-sparky
hello!! thank you for the ask :)!!!!
1. i've listened to a couple of mechs songs!! i need to listen to more. i've listened to half of UDAD and a couple miscellaneous songs (pump shanty, loki, our boy jack, lost in the cosmos etc.) also i love their designs so much they're so cool looking. especially ashes i love them
2. favourite album is for sure 1896 (closely followed by mk iii) it's so so good and full of absolute bangers. favourite song,,, i have so many but on a crescendo, i'll rust with you, the pulls, intertwined, on top of the universe (steamworld heist), latum alterum, transform, bad days on the horizon, the ballad of delilah morreo, the suspender man... etc. i will start listing the whole discography if no one stops me
3. RABBIT!!!!! she's so silly. would do anything for the bit. but her story and character are so incredibly tragic and ougjhhghgj i have so many thoughts about her. and her tendency to carry all the people she has ever cared about with her in her music. and the fact that she still feels guilty about the 1950 incident, which wasn't her fault in the slightest :( her ever-shifting design. AND HER SONGS. so many emotions. i think about rabbit a normal amount.
4. i have so many favourite photos. i have an entire folder on my laptop of every single rabbit design chronicled by date and show for drawing reference. JKHSDF i'll put some standouts from the many photos i have accumulated under the cut:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they're like overly affectionate cats. spine's on the opposite end of the cat affection spectrum
Tumblr media
PLAYING HIS SPINES LIKE A XYLOPHONEJKHSDF RABBIT LOOKS SO GLEEFUL
Tumblr media
it's me boy i'm the ps5 speaking to you inside your brain
Tumblr media
she's so proud of herself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
chelsea patting an inflatable palm tree and the spine looking at a tiny beach ball very fondly
5. i kind of have a fanbot? but she doesn't really count i think sjkdhfs. when i first got into spg it was through honeybee (like literally everyone else). and i decided to for some reason read all of the lore before listening to any other songs. and i also decided to design honeybee as a robot rabbit might have fallen in love with (and subsequently broke up with). it turns out honeybee has a canonical design i think - if the cover art of honeybee is anything to go by. oh well. i still like this funky bee bot design. maybe i'll design an actual fanbot someday!
Tumblr media
here she is. there's a lot wrong with this drawing, looking back jksdhf like her wonky left eye
6. i would go to snornia. i'd probably get eaten instantly but big magical creatures,,, and legend has it there's a certain pink dragon princess there!

Apparently, I watched phase one of marvel so now we're onto phase two. Let's go!
Iron Man 3: Oh Stark is a jerk. We already knew this, but like that really is a low blow to go out of your way to tell someone you're going to do something then not do it. Not from personal experience of course... *sighs* I enjoyed this. I really did. Way better than the first movie, but I think I like it a smidge better than the sequel. I prefer the sequel'a villain though because it felt more valid. But also if someone left me on the roof, I would want to fight them too. I don't like the arc reactor being taken away. I know this universe continues and I felt like the arc reactor protected him against Loki. I don't know. Also the kid, I really liked him. When kids are in movies, I tense up because it'll either be done really well or really bad. In this case, the boy acted his little heart out. Onto the next movie!
Thor The Dark World: BORING. SNOOZEFEST. I really tried here guys. I watched the movie. Sure the realms lore and the antagonists are interesting I guess, but Thor and his story is just boring. If Taika "ruined the Thor franchise" with the newest Thor film, it has to be the worst movie ever written. This one and the first are the only ones I've actively disliked so far.
Captain America Winter Soldier: Okay we should be back in the good world. Maybe I'll understand the bucky x steve ship with this one. I have higher hope for this because generally after a boring one Marvel gives you a good movie. This is where the "you know me" "no I don't" meme comes from??? I liked this one a lot. This is better than all the Iron Man movies and Avengers. This is really good. I didn't expect much since I wasn't really a fan of the first film, but this had me immersed from beginning to end. I expected Captain America to be reunited with his old friend Bucky so it was interesting that didn't happen. I'm excited about the twins! I'm thinking... It's someone that has become popular in these last couple of years. But don't tell me!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Yeah I'm not wasting my time on this one
Avengers Age of Ultron: I just really HATE that they feel the need to make a romance film out of everything. I want superheroes. Not everyone needs to be in a relationship. Give it a break. But I'm enjoying the philosophical questions this movie is breaking. Also at first, I felt like the characters were flat now I'm starting to see their dimensions. The twins were interesting characters and the stark weapons showed up again. This is what I talk about when people apologize for their actions. Yes you can genuinely feel sorry, but your actions still affected people in real life at the end of the day. You can't blame anyone for the grudges they hold or the lack of forgiveness when they were negatively affected by you. I liked the antagonist in this one and also his death was pretty cool (some of the villains deaths were kinda corny ngl). Not my favorite of the avengers movie mostly because of the whole relationship thing that took up too much of the movie in my opinion especially when I didn't care. Also the "fine I'll do it myself" meme!
Ant Man: Skipping this one too for now

Ah if you’re doing lore for fics, could u do it for Brothers of Frost (my beloved) —thot-son-of-odin
always still doing fic lore! :)
I have literally not looked at his fic since the day I posted it. So this will be interesting I guess.
The basis of this fic was actually based off of an idea for an original story my sister had, where countries traded heirs so that way they would stop fighting. I honestly don't even remember what the original request was so I'm not sure how badly I altered it.
I remember very vividly how much writing from Odin's POV made me feel frustrated because like, usually i just consider him to be an a-hole, but I couldn't do that from his pov and I needed him to be a good dad so I had to compromise a bit.
LORE FOR BROTHERS OF FROST <- LINK TO STORY
---
"Frigga's hand rests on his shoulder, and Odin lifts his gaze to his wife gratefully, raising his hand to gently hold her fingers between his own. She has always been attuned to him, able to read his face like an open book despite his best efforts to dissemble."
This position has always struck me as really intimate when partners do this. <3
Also I really must have just discovered the word dissemble, because when I was doing a different fic lore I saw it and was like ??? galaxy WHY. Because like, it means what I think it means in this context, there are just so many better words to use. Sometimes eyes are just eyes, yknow?
---
"The word of a Jotunn is never trustworthy."
oh and I'm spelling jotun weird. okay. Also. My man. my guy. my dude. Your xenophobia is showing and your frost giant son is literally two feet away from you.
---
"his feet giving tittering taps against the ground in a rhythm that is familiar to him."
...tittering taps? what on earth--?
---
"He casts a look at the boy, long blond hair is tucked into a messy ponytail with loose strands coming to hang around a thin face. He carries muscles, but it is meager compared to other children his age and it does not seem to hold well onto his gaunt body. He is tucked into furs, but they do not seem to be warm enough for the brittle edge of Jotunheim."
fun fact!! @thot-son-of-odin drew fanart of this:
Tumblr media
---
"She releases his hand and moves forward slowly, though Thor flinches to it. Wide blue eyes swing up to meet the golden blonde's and his fists clench at his sides, as though preparing for a fight."
Hypervigilance from being raised in a society that loathes him. Thor was bullied and beaten up frequently.
---
"Thor barely comes up to her shoulder, and Odin can see the stiff surprise in his expression."
Guess who is receiving the first hug in their life that they can remember?
---
Thor lifts his eyes towards him, "I'm…" He murmurs in a shaky common-tongue. He swallows, "I'm…"
thor was going to say "i'm going to pass out", but frigga interrupted him.
--
"Hello, Thor," he says in a small voice, "you're well, I trust."
"I'm…" Thor repeats helplessly, then clenches his fists tightly, "yes. Of course...Thank you."
Just realized that Thor is meeting the person that he was traded for and he's probably having mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, Loki is smol, on the other, Loki stole his life.
Thor was also going to say he was going to pass out. The boy does not know how to cite his needs.
--
Odin bites sharply at his inner cheek before sharing a helpless look with his wife and rests a hand on Thor's shoulder, pretending to ignore his flinch.
Guess who is NOT used to contact that isn't intended to hurt??
---
Odin guides Thor through the palace, but the slightest noise or abrupt movement makes him flinch and draw in closer to himself. He seems terrified of everything and Odin is not quite sure what to do with this information
Yeah, guess who grew up in the middle of Jotunheim streets and like. Did not see people and color? This is literally Thor's first experience with Asgard that he remembers and everything is loud and he hates it.
---
Thor asks no questions. He hardly speaks except when asked a question, instead opting to stare at everything.
GUESS WHO DOESN'T KNOW THE COMMON TONGUE THAT WELL BECAUSE NO ONE FREAKING TAUGHT HIM?
---
When they at last make it to the royal family's wing, Thor's eyes widen with wonder. The personal rooms are adjoined in the middle with a large sitting room, a private kitchen (Frigga has always loved to cook and not even her royal status is going to stop that), and a small nook that Odin has turned into a library since he moved in here with Frigga.
Galaxy's Quest To Ignore/Explain Away Servants Continues!
---
Odin laughs with the others and rejoices, but notices with painful realization that Thor has shrunk further into himself and is barely picking at the food on his plate
GUESS WHo--i'm kidding. thor hasn't ever been to a party before. Everything is STILL LOUD.
---
Loki keeps attempting to start conversations with him (which shows the blond's true lack of talking desires if Loki, who hates initiating talking, has to start first), but Thor isn't responding.
"lack of talking desires" GALAXY WHY IS THIS--
Thor still doesn't understand the common tongue that well. Loki might as well be speaking gibberish.
---
Thor was always to return and take that responsibility. Asgard was never meant to be Loki's. It does not quell his fury to realize how many believed he'd simply sentenced his firstborn son to death.
my man my guy my dude. you didn't. even think about that a little bit? Laufey could have just outright killed Thor. And then you wouldn't have an heir. Also kind of messed up that Odin's immediate solution to this is to dump the throne onto Thor once he came back. Like. HOW DID YOU THINK THIS WAS GOING TO GO?
okay. good news guys, even when I try to write Odin as a good parent he still sucks. It's just in his nature.
I still cannot believe that Laufey didn't even want Loki back. Like BRO--

To recompense this, they asked Sir Borison, head of the nobility's school, to have him take a placement test. He wasn't drastically behind others his age, but he does not bare Loki's genius. Odin is not unhappy with this, he is pleased Thor understands what he can.
i'm gonna let you all in on a little secret. Sir Borison is the name I always give Loki and Thor's tutor and it's because it's literally sir boring-son. Yes, I have the sense of humor of a ten-year-old.
---
His common-tongue is often choppy, as if he did not spend enough time speaking or learning it, and the fact it did not hinder him in the testing was impressive in of itself.
YEAH. CAUSE HE TAUGHT HIMSELF HOW TO READ.
---
Thor is not so much of Jotunheim's that he does not feel.
OH MY GOSH THE XENOPHOBIA. DUDE. LOKI IS RIGHT THERE.
---
"I not want—" Thor starts, then clenches his fists, "please not make me be attended to by healer." Why is there such reluctance? Surely the boy must know that they intend him no harm. He is safe here. Asgard will always be safe for him.
I literally don't remember why Thor doesn't want to go to a healer, but I am so here for this. What's going on baby boy? :(
Also the failing speech patterns are just *Chef's kiss*
--
"Father!" Loki cries, coming up to the other side of the desk and slamming his hands against the surface. "I want a new brother!"
*rolls eyes fondly* oh my gosh you big dramatic baby.
---
It is hard to see Jotunheim in him when he's shy and stumbles over his words, but this? This is the culture he knows best. The one that Thor cannot keep if Odin is to make him king. If Thor is to recover from the years he spent as Laufey's.
I'm so annoyed with thim right now. A because MORE XENOPHOBIA AND LOKI IS STILL RIGHT THERE and b...dude. Thor has been there for like ONE WEEK. How is he supposed to have recovered by now???? And what does "recovered" even mean? That he acts more like Asgardians? LIke? Odin has put in zero (0) effort into helping Thor, but expects him to be all better anyway.
I'm just asdfkjas;dflkajs;df
---
Sir Utlison's gaze flicks up to him, almost as if guilty before admitting, lowly: "He's...reckless. Dangerous. You must know this, he is a tool that Laufey created. A intelligencer. Why do you believe he was sent with no escort?"
I am banging my head against a wall. A spy. Just SAY SPY. An EYE IS SOMETIMES JUST AN EYE.
---
Thor's eyes lose their anger, replaced with a tired defeat. "Fandral hit Loki hard enough to make him bleed. I hit him enough to make him regret it."
THOR. MY CHILD. MY BABY. YOU HAVE KNOWN LOKI THREE WEEKS AND YOU'RE ALREADY BEATING UP HIS BULLIES. <3
SOMEONE NEEDS TO BEAT UP YOURS NOW
---
Thor's head whips up and he jerks slightly, "Wait! Please! I lost control of my temper and I'm sorry, I swear on my honour I'm sorry, but please don't lock me in the room!"
Oh.
Oh.
Right. Forgot about that. Okay. Yeah.
---
"...yes. The King was never pleased with anything I did. He was always angry. Sometimes he'd hit me, but I was to small and fast. They were always making fun of me and I hated it. No one liked me, but they pretended they did. I tried to do the things that they wanted, but I was always cold, sick, and they hated me for it. The King—Laufey would punish me by throwing me in the room and I hated it. I didn't like dark. It was always cold, All-Father, and I just wanted to be warm."
You know. Isolation in the dark and cold is probably one of the worst long-term psychologically damaging things I can think of. Good job, Laufey, you messed up a perfectly good child.
---
Thor squeezes his eyes shut, "Fandral's gang of idiots. That's-that's why Loki hit him first. Then Fand-ral hit him back and called him the hiccup of the family and that he wouldn't underssstand because of that, and I was so angry. Loki's mean, but he's my brother. All-all of them hate me and they said that you do to and that you want to send me b-b-back."
I FORGOT ABOUT THAT TOO.
I literally love how in any reincarnation of them, Thor and Loki are still ride or die siblings. AND SOMEONE HIT THOR'S BULLY BACk!!!
(I DO NOT ENCOURAGE NOR CONDONE VIOLENCE)
---
Startled, but not surprised, Odin assigns Loki to the task as well to keep the four boys from strangling each other.
maybe, consider this, you could have an adult supervise them instead of an actual child, sir?
---
There's a book between their legs from where they're sitting on the floor and Loki points at something on the page.
"What's this letter?"
""E"?" Thor questions, looking up for confirmation.
Loki shakes his head, "No, that's "Æ", this is "E"." He points somewhere else on the book. Thor makes a little humming noise of agreement.
Odin's stomach jerks.
Thor never learned how to read from the Jotunns.
There's just something really really sweet to me about the idea of Loki putting together that Thor can't read and then going "well i guess I'm just going to fix that" and then Thor trusting him enough to let him help. I love these two so much.
---
Loki gives him a look, but it's softer this time, "Worry not," he reassures, releasing Thor's hand, "you should really think about drawing the Dejorunn Mountains, they're beautiful at this time of year. Sir Borison said that he was going to take my class up to see them, but Astrid slipped and got her dress all dirty and she cried for a long time, Brother, it was at least three minutes, and then Brosn fell down and broke his ankle so the trip was cancelled. Do you want to see them with me? Father said he would take me, but he's been busy and he might let us go if you ask—" no, he wouldn't, they're too dangerous. When they're older, maybe, "—and I would love to drink from the Waterfall of Kings. You would, too, I think."
Loki learning with Thor's anxiety and helping Thor with it and Thor letting him help and this 'verse is SO GOOD. I'm very proud of myself. I did a great job, lol.
I always think of this as like. The devil's fic. Like on my list of fics I hate this is below that. But it's actually really good??? like. Yeah it's got some rough spots and Odin is STILL horrible, but overall I would write a follow-up one-shot, which is kind of my basis on how much I hate something, XD
thank you so much for this ask. It gave me a little boost of confidence.
