Seeing so many people putting Azula and Zuko against each other bothers me a lot, because that's literally what Ozai did. How can you guys not see that? It's canon
Azula and Zuko were both terrible to eachother in multiple occasions (edit: actually, Azula was terrible to Zuko, but I didn't wanna get jumped by Azula stans so I made it seem like they were both bad. Sorry about that and thanks for correcting me), but they're both traumatized children fighting a war that started before they were even born. The war made them that way. Ozai made them that way
Azula was horrible to Zuko for most of his life, and that's canon. You can't deny it. But at the same time, it MOSTLY wasn't her fault
So, we know how Ozai clearly liked Azula more than Zuko did. But why is this? Zuko may not be as good as Azula in terms of bending, but he's not a bad bender. Ozai likes Azula more (not loves; likes) because she acts the way he wants her to act. She's cold, mean, calculating, manipulative and supports the Fire Nation. Zuko is nice, he asks too many questions, struggles with his emotions and can't seem to stfu (I know I sound mean saying that but that's literally canon. That boy cannot, for the love of god, shut his fucking mouth up)
Ozai made Azula be more like him. Zuko gets his kindness from his mother
And on the topic of Ursa, she canonically loves both of her children, even if she prefers Zuko due to him being less like their abuser. We never see her calling Azula a monster, besides of the scene where she says “What is wrong with that child?” OUTSIDE OF HEARING RANGE and right after Azula did something Bad™ (forgot what it was sorry). This is why I believe that Ursa never directly told Azula she feared her: Ozai told her she did. Ozai spent a lot more time with Azula than he did with Zuko, which was very easily an opportunity to poison her mind even more. And how did he do this?
By telling her everyone hated her.
He isolated her, made her cold and unforgiving, so that she wouldn't have any “weaknesses” like Zuko did. He used her as a means to abuse Zuko. He told her Zuko and Ursa were weak and that they both feared and hated her
Zuko would be right to be angry at Azula for treating him the way she did,but he still should know (and he DOES know, it was literally the main theme of his redemption arc; realizing that his abuser was the one at fault and not him) that the one at fault was Ozai. Same with Azula; it wasn't Zuko's fault nor Ursa's, Ozai is the one that willingly chose to destroy so many people's lives because he wanted power
And I'm pretty sure Zuko and Azula don't hate eachother like many people believe them to do. No, they love eachother, but ofc Ozai fucking ruined their relationship bc he ruins EVERYTHING
Zuko is sad that their relationship turned out to be that way. Zuko wants them to be better, to do better. Zuko wants them to be happy. But Zuko has also grown up with a version of Azula that could never make mistakes and that was mean af. Zuko won't be able to have a perfectly healthy relationship with his sister ever because of how he was made to think of Azula as perfect, and because Azula was made to think of him as weak
So, please, don't pit them against eachother. Don't compare the abuse they went through (seriously. Doing that is disgusting). Don't bring one of them down to make the other look like a little angel that does nothing wrong. They already suffer because of that enough in canon. Leave my babies alone
#but really. the only person that was actually abusive in the fire family was ozai#ozai used his daughter to torment zuko and ursa; ruining her life and mental health in the process#and ursa wasn't the greatest mother but c'mon. she was trapped with a man she was forced to marry#she was literally taken away from her home and most likely SAd by him multiple times so they could have heirs#and YES it was SA. ursa did NOT want to go with him. she didn't want to marry him#and she definitely didn't want to have children with him#but she still loved her children so much#she did all she could. especially considering her poor mental health at the moment#she tried#so don't come to me with any of your “ursa didn't love azula and she was a terrible mother” bullshit#ursa loved BOTH OF HER CHILDREN#she showed favoritism over zuko because azula was mimicking her worst abuser's actions#and yet she still tried to show azula love and appreciation#but ofc ozai fucking ruined that#ursa never directly told azula that she feared her#i 100% believe that ozai told azula ursa hated her to isolate her even further#also azula wouldn't be in the wrong to be angry at zuko for leaving#the first time? yes she'd be wrong because he didn't leave he was kicked out#the second time? well. she is a 14 year old girl#she probably saw Zuko's betrayal as something more personal#AND AGAIN!!#azula is allowed to be angry. she's allowed to have feelings#but she needs to know and understand that her miserable life wasn't zuko's (or ursa's) fault#in the comics (yes i know they're terrible don't come at me) it's shown how she blames everyone but herself and ozai#she says ursa was the one at fault. she antagonizes zuko and attempts to make him more like ozai#she also antagonizes kiyi (her half sister)#she antagonized a lot of people#atla#oh and abt what i said before. azula WAS abusive. it was Ozai's fault but she really was abusive#sorry if i made it look like i was denying it

hii, I’m good! thank u for requesting I love this idea xx
Bad, bad bunny
warning: minors dni! stepcest, dom!sub themes, mentions of cheating, power play, daddy kink, age gap, dub-con (but not really? reader is into it), dumbificaton, Cillian only starts lusting after her once she turns 18!
pairing: dom!stepfather Cillian Murphy x sub!stepdaughter Reader
summary: Y/N sneaks out for a party, and her stepfather, Cillian, makes sure it never happens again
Tumblr media
She was always such a good girl. Always obedient, always listening to him without talking back. Maybe that’s why he felt so drawn to her.
Her mother, Mrs.(Y/L/N), and Cillian married when (Y/N) was only 14, just a clueless girl back then. Everything was lovely in the beginning, her mother acted nice and lovey dovey until he married her. Cillian regretted it the second he slid the ring onto her finger, when he saw that certain look in her eyes. But, at least it made Cillian promise something to himself, he will keep little (Y/N) safe and innocent. He won’t let her become the spiteful whore her mother was. He knew she was cheating on him and their marriage, going out late in the night, taking advantage of the fact that he was working so much. There were times when she was out for days, and then she eventually stopped coming home, she sneaked in when her husband and her daughter were asleep, took her stuff and fled right out of their lives.
Cillian was more relieved than anything. He filed in for a divorce and also filed for custody, he wasn’t going to leave the poor 15 year old girl on her own. He moved them away, bought a beautiful house in Dublin. It had a big garden, a pool, even a personal library. He loved seeing that look in his stepdaughter’s eyes, when her big eyes sparkled with adoration.
He made sure to spoil her, give her anything she asked for. Thankfully, she never became a brat, she was always so grateful for him and the pretty things she enjoyed.
As the years went by, Cillian watched the girl grow into a gorgeous little thing. He noticed how she started filling in her clothes, how they became tighter on her body, and it excited him. He always found her beautiful, but in a way a father would find his child beautiful. Now, he felt arousal pool in his stomach when he looked at her, his lovely bunny. When he watched her swim around the pool, while he was making dinner for them, he would really see how her body evolved. Perky breasts nearly spilling out of her white bikini, her nipples would harden up from the water and they poked through the light fabric. Her hips widened, he found himself wanting to grip on them as well as on her round butt.
He loved the girlish style she developed, her wardrobe contained lots of pink, lace and silk. It brought a sense of pride knowing that it was all bought with his money, her clothes, her room, basically anything she touched. She was all his. She cared for him as much as he cared for her, such a sweet girl. She did well in school, she always ran into his arms with a giggle when she got her usual good marks.
Everything was perfect. Her 19th birthday went by and he found himself more attracted to her than ever. One night, he was on his way to give her usual good night kiss, but he was confused when he opened the door to an empty room. He was sure she would be sleeping already, given the fact that he stayed up quite late tonight. Her bed was made, her pyjamas folded up beside her pillow. She wasn’t in her bathroom, however he could smell her perfume.
His body filled with rage when he noticed her window open. She sneaked out, his dear bunny sneaked out. For good knows what. He sat on her bed in disbelief, he was very angry with her. Until, he looked sideway, he saw an pair of her panties, hanging from the side. He squatted beside it and snatched the used lace. Back on her bed, he thumbed the area where her intimate parts rested against, he felt the sticky substance. He felt his cock stir in his underwear when he felt her sweet scent fill up the room. That is when the idea hit him, and a wicked smirk fell upon his lips. He would make sure that his little bunny never disobeys him again.
He waited her for her to come home, he sat on her vanity chair with the lights turned off. It wasn’t even an hour before he heard her noises outside, he smirked proudly. He saw her sneak in the window again and he waited for her to turn her lights on and he spoke up when she did.
“Did you enjoy yourself, bunny?” He stood up and made his way to her. Her eyes were wide and her lips were open. He couldn’t deny, she looked stunning. Her pink dress hugged her figure, her soft hair adorned a matching pink ribbon, as it always did. He couldn’t stop thinking about what was under her dress.
“I-I…”
“Sit down on the bed, and explain what you were doing.” She did as she was told, with her gaze planted on her lap.
“I was going to a party. I’m sorry.” He felt his anger rise within him again.
“Look at me.” He said sternly. He was glad to know that she was ashamed and that she felt bad for playing him like that. “Was it worth it?”
“No… I know I shouldn’t have. I just…” Tears began to form in her eyes. He came closer and stood infront of her, making her look up at him with those pretty doe eyes. He signalled her to continue. “I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. But I didn’t like it! All I could think about was how much better it would be if I was here with you, I was only there for half an hour.” His eyes softened at this, his sweet girl was so eager to come back home to him, he caressed her soft cheek with one hand.
“Did you drink?” She shook her head. “Did you take anything from anyone?” She did it again, then he questioned what he feared the most. “Did you do anything with boys?” He was relieved when yet again, she motioned ‘no’ with her head. “Good.”
He felt her nuzzle her cheek into his palm, but suddenly he gripped her face harshly. “Your actions have consequences. You need to be punished, so in the future you will behave like the good girl I know you are.” He pulled her up by her hair and his dick throbbed when she whined. He left her standing there dumbly, while he took a seat on her bed. “Strip.”
Her eyes widened, she had some mascara marks at her waterline already, she will be a mess by the time he is finished with her.
“W-What?”
“Dumb little girl. Strip for daddy, show him what you have under the dress he bought for his little princess.” The word ‘daddy’ seemed to have woken something in her, her eyes got a desperate look in them and she started to follow his orders.
She let the dress fall off her frame, now she stood in front of him in lingerie. He knew she was innocent, he always made sure to shoo the boys away from her. She bought lacy underwear simply because she found it pretty, he did too, but only on her. How he wanted to mark up her untouched skin. Touch it, kiss it, suck it, bruise it.
He motioned her to come over with two fingers. When she stopped in front of him, he made sure to take a moment and be delicate with her. He let his hands wander across her hips and waist, a shiver ran up her spine at his warm touch. “Across my lap, bunny.”
She kneeled beside his thighs, but he grabbed her hair tightly when she was about to lay down. Instead of a whine, she let out a moan, she felt the pain transform into arousal and go right to her cunt. He pulled her face close to his, the slut in his arms closed her eyes and sighed at the scent of his cologne, he smelled like… a man, her man. His scent mingled with her sweet one in the air, the perfect mix of two opposites. He whispered into her ear. “I expect to be answered. And I expect you to be thankful that your daddy is trying so hard to keep you in line, little doe.”
“Yes, daddy, I’m sorry. Thank you for being so good to me.” With the hand that wasn’t used to hold herself up, she caressed his neck and smiled in a sweet manner.
“Good girl.” He helped her get comfortable across his lap, and continued caressing her skin. He kneaded her round ass and gave it a light slap to test the waters. He knew she could feel his erection against her tummy, he wanted her to know how much he desired her. The ribbon was slipped out of her hair and around her wrist. “You will count for me, and thank me for every spank.”
She wasn’t expecting the harsh slap that he did across her ass, she moaned loudly and somehow whimpered out. “One, thank you, daddy.”
Smack! “T-Two. Thank you.” Smack! “Three. Thank you da-“ SMACK! “DA—“ SMACK!
He kept striking the red skin of her ass, every spank more painful than the other. She stopped counting, she just let her face mush against her floral sheet and she whimpered. Tears mixed with mascara were running down her cheeks, and there was a little pool of drool on the fabric, where her mouth was dropped open.
Despite her behaviour, he felt the heat against his palm radiating from her warm pussy. He suddenly stopped, her whiny sounds were filling up the room. “Did you learn your lesson, bunny?” She just nodded into the sheet, so he gripped the reddest area of her butt, hard. “Pardon? I didn’t hear you.”
“Yes, daddy! I learned my lesson. I won’t do it again, I won’t do anything bad again. I’m sorry.” She looked back at him with a pleading look in her teary eyes. God, he thought she looked absolutely beautiful, so messy and fucked out. He couldn’t wait to see her like that on his cock, but he will have to wait for that, she deserved to be treated gently.
“Good girl. My good little bunny.” He undid the ribbon around her wrists and spun her around in his arms. She hissed when her butt touched his thigh but relaxed the second he wrapped her in his arms. “There, there. You did so good, little doe, you deserve a treat now.”
He slowly slipped his hand down to her cunt, and clicked his tongue when he felt her wetness. He massaged her entrance for a hot second before bringing her slick up to her little nub. “Eager, are we?” She was whining when his fingers started to do little circles on her clit. Her pretty face was hidden in his neck and her fingers wrapped themselves in his hair. Her leg twitched when he sped up his movements.
“Oh- Daddy!”
“I know, little one.” She came on his finger with a whiny moan and then relaxed in his arms. He saw how she was sleepy and exhausted. He stood up, carrying her in bridal style and he made his way to her bathroom.
“Let’s get you cleaned up for bed. Daddy loves you so much, bunny, he just wants to keep you safe.” He whispered
She gave him one of her sweet smiles and she snuggled more into him.
“I love you too, daddy.”

There is no 'I' in Team
Summary: Based on this request.
Warnings: Panic Attack, Mentions of Abuse Father (reading also asking not to be hit etc)
A/N: I hope you like it.
Tumblr media
The media was relishing your appearance, every reporter had thrown your name out in whatever interview they were doing, you were in stories on the front cover of the news.
“The 14 year old power house” “Some of football's greatest legends have honoured this youngster” “Beckham: That kid is insane, a star”
______
“And she missed, straight over the crossbar. What a rare sight to see,”
“Yes, yes, yes, ohh, missed opportunity again, it went wide”
“Fantastic save by Mary Earps”
"Wide yet again. She has had 40 attempts this game and only 2 on target, both of which Earps has saved,"
Australia lost the world cup to England, you felt like it was your fault, the media decided it was your fault, you were still plastered all over the media, however in a different light this time.
"Has the wonder kid lost her Wonder?" "A gold medal gone, was Y/F/N Y/L/N the right choice?" "Wonder if Beckham still thinks she is a star"
After the game you were incredibly disappointed in yourself and upset, and angry with yourself, you really questioned whether you were the best player of the team, the night you recieved a silver medal at the world cup was not celebrated by you. You were upset and so was the rest of the team, however they all still celebrated, but how could you when you were the reason the heavy disc that hung round their necks was silver and not gold. You were the only one that night who still had tears of sadness falling from your eyes as you went up to collect your medal, you still had sad tears in your eyes as you arrived back to your hotel room. Most of your teammates had left the celebrations to talk to you and comfort you at some point during the night. starting with the obvious ones, Caitlin, then Steph, then Sam, and ending with the not so obvious pick, Kyra, you and Kyra were very close friends it was just that the girls didn't think she would be able to help you in the way you needed. You didn't say a single word to any of them, you just continued to cry, as you remained in your tight coil on the bed.
You didn't talk to anyone about football for months, or even just in general, you tried your best to avoid everyone, you couldn't kick the feeling of knowing you had disappointed them. After training you would just go straight up to your room and lock yourself in, only appearing for dinner. Katie and Caitlin your newly adoptive parents were growing concerned, and were trying to figure out how they could discuss what was going on with you.
______
The opening match for the season hadn't gone that well for you, your shots weren't going in, which made you frustrated and with every off target shot your frustration grew. You couldn't wait for the final whistle to be blown, you just wanted to get off the pitch.
You were near the commentators as the whistle was blown, you could hear their debrief and opinions on the game, the players, more specifically you “As a coach you would be starting to think about changing your go to line up, off days happen, but this, this is different, from being up there with the best of the best, to missing the most basic shots, the shots that should 100% go in. Shots that caused your country to come second.”
You felt your breath hitch at that moment, the reminder you were the reason you came second, the reminder of how you let down your team, your whole country. Suddenly you could feel every single beat of your heart, you could hear blood rushing past your ears, you ran down the tunnel through the locker room and into one of the bathroom stalls, quickly locking the door before sliding down the wall. Curling yourself in a tight ball, hiding yourself away from the world.
Your Dad’s words racing through your mind “You’re a let down, a failure. A complete waste of space.” You never believed him but maybe he was right, maybe the abusive bastard was actually correct, what if you were wrong, what if you didn’t deserve a new life. What if Katie and Caitlin didn’t actually want you, what if they weren’t actually proud of you, what if they were ashamed of you, what if you were a waste of their time, what if they hated you.
Out of the corner of your eye you saw someone standing near you. How did they get through the locked door? Were you so incredibly hopeless that you couldn't even lock a door? They took a step forward, and you felt your body start shaking slightly, coiling yourself into a tighter ball.
“Please don’t hit me, I’m sorry, I know I'm a waste of space.” you felt a hand on you, however it wasn’t a painful touch, it was a soft comforting hand, but you couldn't risk it, trying to move out of the grip of the persons hand, however soon they had both hands on you, slightly gripping onto you so you couldn’t move away.
“I’m sorry, I’ll do better, I’ll leave, I know you’re ashamed of me”
“Baby girl it's okay, it's just me, I’m safe, I’m not going to hit you, I love you, it’s okay, everything is alright,” They said in a very soft, calm voice as they moved you into their lap. A familiar scent met your nose it was Katie, you slightly relaxed at her presence, but quickly tensed again, what if she thought you were a burden, you felt like you were swaying, your head felt foggy, you felt sick, your body was shaking, your face was wet from your streaming tears.
You felt the hands wrap around you tighten, “I’ve got you, you’re okay, can you take some deep breaths for me? Like we practise.” You took some deep breaths. “Good Job,” you sat there with Katie for a few minutes.
“How about you have a shower and then we can talk. Okay?” you nod, “But just know that Caitlin and I love you so much, and we are very proud of you and we are so happy you came into our lives, and I promise that is not a lie” you stand up with her and give her a big hug before going to shower, you almost hated the way she knew what you were thinking, almost always. While you were showering no one came into the shower, which you thought was weird, until you walked out of the showers and saw everyone standing there huddled around Katie.
Katie noticed you were standing there. “You ready to talk?” you nodded slinkishly, “come here” she sat down and gestured for you to sit down on her lap, you willingly went over, and sat on her lap. Caitlin sat next to the both of you.
“What’s wrong?” Katie asked you “I’m not good enough”
“Why do you think that?” Caitlin queried.
“We lost the final because of me. And now we lost because I couldn't shoot,” you took a deep breath and paused for a moment “Maybe i shouldn't have become a footballer” you sad before a small sob left your body.
“Hey, we came second because of you, we wouldn’t have been in that match if it wasn’t for you. It doesn’t matter what they say, if you weren’t on our team we wouldn’t have been in that match.” Steph told you.
“You know, you are amazing kid, it’s okay to have off days, off weeks and off months, its okay, and it’s not fair for anyone but especially yourself to blame losses on yourself, its a team sport, we win as a team and we lose as a team” Leah told you and you just nodded your head, the whole team reassured you that you were still good and an excellent player even though you were having some off days, you had calmed down but the team stayed where they were for a little longer, to show you that they were there for you.
The team went off to shower eventually, but Katie did not, you just stayed sitting in her lap, soaking up her warm embrace. “What if we invited some of the girls over for a movie night tonight, would you like that? They could even sleep over.” You nodded your head.
That evening you found yourself surrounded by your teams as you watched a movie, they all really cared about you and supported you, so you made yourself a promise that you would start to try and open up to them more.

Doudou
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 (Charles’s ending)
Pairing : Charles Leclerc x reader
Theme : Fluff / Angst
Not sure if I should do part 2 for this. Sorry for any mistakes I haven’t proofread it yet!
“You two lovebirds need to get a room.” Joris rolled his eyes as he walked inside Charles’s driver room to get his jacket and and immediately headed out. Charles and you were all cuddled up together on the couch with hands around your frame.
“This is literally my room, Joris.”
“Yeah, whatever. It’s time for media activities, Charles. Get up, get up! She’s not going anywhere.”
“She won’t be able to go anywhere I’m not letting her go.” Charles waggled your body that was leaning against him before brushing his lips on your hair.
“You are so silly. Go! Joris will get mad if you don’t get going now.”
“Wait for me, doudou.”
Doudou, the nickname that he would always call you. He came up with the nickname when you guys were kid and stopped calling you by your name. You even forgot what your name sounded like with his voice.

If you told your 14 years old self that your childhood friend would become the 1st Monegasque driver since Beretta in 1994, of course you would believe it in a second because you knew how talented he was but if you told your younger self that you would be his girlfriend and travelled the world to accompany him for his F1 races, you would have rolled your eyes because that was just impossible. But it happened, and it was like a dream come true. You had always knew you had feelings for him but you never thought it was reciprocated. Your friendship with Charles had turned into something more when he joined F2. A year later, he made his debut in F1. The media coverage, the attention he got was way different. Please started shouting his name when he arrived in the paddock, his social media went from a normal, “I drive fast cars as my part-time job” kid to pictures that were professionally taken but he would sneaked pictures of you whenever he got a chance because he was still the Charles you knew, your Charles.
When people started following Charles on his Instagram, they would happened to find your account as well so your followers started growing, not as much as his, but still a lot for a university student like you, who didn’t qualify to be an influencer. Charles didn’t hide you from the public. Everyone knew who you were though he never put you in any spotlight because you felt uncomfortable. You would never missed any chances to be in the paddock whenever you had a break from your study but there were a few times where you could only wished him good luck through a video call. He didn’t mind, at all. He knew how hard it was to catch up with your law studies and he wanted to support you as much as you did. Your Charles had always be so understanding.

“Baby, should I wear this one? Or this one?” You took out two piece dress with different colour.
“Are you serious? Doudou, we are just gonna go and get groceries down the street.” Charles looked at you in disbelief and let out a cackle.
“I know.. but I just bought these two and I don’t know which one to wear first.” You heaved a sigh and pout when he didn’t give you the answer you wanted.
“Alright, alright. Try the purple one. It looks pretty.” He scanned on the two outfits on your hand, they looked the same so he didn’t know why you would have difficulty to choose but he didn’t said it out loud because it was the time of the month and you would sulk at almost everything he questioned.
“I think I wanna try the green one first. Can you wait until I do my hair first? Pleaseee.” Well, don’t ask why you were getting ready as if you were invited for Met Gala. You just felt like going extra today, that was it. A very valid reason.
“Go on, doudou. I’ll wait here and maybe, I don’t know, take a nap or something.”
“You are the best. I’ll make it as quick as I can!” It took you 1 hour, but Charles didn’t mind at all. Your Charles had always been so patience.

“No, why is it not as crunchy as the one I saw on Tiktok. Right, baby? You passed the tuna avocado sandwich to your boyfriend and waited for his reaction. You had asked Charles to try Joe & The Juices in New York because you have been seeing people talked high about it and the sandwich had been everything you talked to Charles on your way here to New York.
“Hm? Not bad. It tasted like tuna and avocado….sandwich?” Charles had told you it wasn’t gonna taste anything special and now that he got a taste of it, he would have said I told you so but seeing how disappointed you got, he just let out a silent chuckle.
“It’s not funny! They all made it seemed so good. Did we buy the wrong one?”
“It’s because you had so much expectations on it, doudou. I can make you better one. I’m a good chef, remember?” He pinched your cheeks and hold your hand as you continued walking along the skyscrapers.

“I lost focus. It’s my fault. I could have won the podium.”
You could feel his lips against your neck as he had his body flushed against yours. You knew whenever he came up to you in this position, he needed cuddle and he wanted you to massage his head. Your Charles had always been so affectionate, a secret trait of him that no one knew.
“It wasn’t your fault, baby. The car wasn’t the best and despite all the problems it had, you still managed to push until P4 and that was amazing. I don’t think there’s a lot of drivers out there who can drive that bouncy car pass the finish line at all. Podium or not, you did a wonderful job.”
He didn’t reply and you thought he had fallen asleep because of how calm his breathing was against your skin but then you heard him said
“I love you so much, doudou. So, so much.”
But he stopped being everything he had been these past few weeks.

“Charles, are we okay?” You had realised that he had been different these past few weeks. He didn’t joke around like he usually did, he didn’t annoyed you with back hugs when you cooked and did your makeup like he usually did, he didn’t smile as genuine as he always did, the dimples on his face looked forced.
And he didn’t want to talk. You knew the season had been harsh on him but he always came to you and sought solace in a form of touch but he stopped doing it.
“Yeah, we are fine. Can you stop asking me that?” He stopped the movie from playing to look at your worried face.
“That’s what you said every time I ask the questions but you never told me the truth.”
“What truth do you want, doudou? Please, can we not talk about this?” Charles stood up and began walking into the room.
“You have been so different. The last time we had a proper talk was weeks ago. You didn’t even hold me anymore. Did I do anything wrong? Charles! I’m talking to you!” You raised your voice but you saw him walking away like he always did whenever you brought up this topic.
“I’m tired. We are not talking about this, doudou. Please.” You saw him took his watch and wallet from the dressing table and knew he was going out. He preferred going out.
“You are tired and you are going out? Does that even make any sense? You always avoid talking about this while I’m trying to fix this. I’m trying to fix us!” You trailed behind him and gripped on his arm to stop him from walking away.
“I don’t know what you want me to do. I’m tired of your behaviour, doudou. You are asking for too much. Give me a fucking break!” Charles swayed your arm away and the moment he looked at you, your heart shattered. He’s not your Charles, the person in front of you wasn’t your loving boyfriend. Charles wouldn’t curse at you, he wouldn’t raise his voice at you. The man in front of you was a stranger.
“I—I’m sorry.” Stunned, you pulled your arm away and placed your hand on your chest, as if you could cover the sadness from him.
“I can’t do this anymore. Everything becomes a burden. You become a burden to me and I need a break, we need a break.“
“I’m a burden to you? Charles, I just needed reassurance because—“
“You always think of yourself! I just want to come home and be left alone but you always try to get involved with my life. I can’t even control my own life now, can I? Oh, I’m your boyfriend so I need to update you with everything that happened in my life every second of it. I need to hug you all the time so won’t feel lonely? I need to be with you all the time because you need some fucking reassurance? You are ridiculous, doudou.”
‘I’m afraid of losing you’ was the words you were gonna tell him before he cut you off.
“Fine, go. I won’t be in your way.” You used your arm sleeve from his oversized hoodie to wipe your tears and stormed into the room. You thought he would follow you, your Charles would, but you heard the sound of a door closed but it wasn’t the door to the room.
12 years of friendship, 5 years of relationship but he chose to walk away.

You didn’t see Charles at all after he walked out of the apartment. He didn’t call, didn’t text. All of a sudden he became a part of your memories. You took a break from social media during your last year of law school so you were completely clueless with whatever had been going on. It was already the 12th race of the season where you found yourself at the grandstand with your best friends because she got free tickets and who would say no to free tickets so you were there because she knew you had always been a fan. You have always loved Formula 1, your break up with Charles didn’t wither down your passion for the sport.
The crowd suddenly went loud and you saw it on the big screen, your first love with a girl. He looked happy, he looked like your old Charles.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I really didn’t—“ Your friend exhaled a sign, feeling apologetic at at what just happened.
“Hey, it’s okay. It doesn’t affect me.” You nudged her and smiled.
At first you were sad, you were sad she received the smiles you did. Oh, but it had been so long since he's smiled, you couldn't help but smile too.

The first thing you feel is something plastic poking the inside of your nose. It smelled of chilly, medicinal air conditioning.
The next thing you feel is a massive, unpleasant weight on your chest. Then at the crown of your head. Then some weird pressure squeezing your calves every few seconds. Then an entirely full bladder.
“I need to fucking pee.” You mutter, voice dry and raspy.
“I think you can just go, dude.” A familiar voice replies.
You fight against the crustiness of your eyes but immediately regret it. All you can see through the slits of your eyelids is a harsh, white light.
“Am I… Am I fucking blind?” You whine.
“I’m pretty sure that your eyeballs are still inside your head. So hopefully not.” You hear the voice chuckle.
You fight against the unforgiving glare from above, forcing your eyes open. It takes a few moments to gain control of your body, but you’re eventually able to crane your neck towards where the voice had previously echoed from.
“J-Jesse?” You croak.
“Yeah. I’m here, bud.” Your raven-haired friend smiles.
You spot him to your left, sitting in, what appears to be, an uncomfortable armchair. He wore a blue disposable mask over his nose and mouth, his hair looking unkempt and unshowered, and you notice how his clothes look wrinkled and slept in.
“What happened? Are you alright? What’s going on?” You groggily inquire.
“You’re the one all strapped to a hospital bed, but you’re asking me if I’m okay?”
Jesse takes your hand and squeezes it appreciatively. He flashes you a soft, warm smile.
“How are you feeling?” He asks.
“I-I’m not sure…” You admit. “What… what the hell happened?”
“Well,” Jesse starts slowly. “You went on a date with Anderson to Orchards yesterday. At the end of it, you were being a total dummy and made out with her after she ate a whole plate of shrimp.”
“N-no, no,” You interrupt, scrunching your face up as you try to recall the previous day’s events. “She ate this whole soup thing for dinner. Some weird French dish with some weird-sounding name.”
“Bouillabaisse,” Jesse clarifies. “It’s a fish soup. It doesn’t always have shellfish in it, but hers apparently did.”
You groan.
“Oh, I am such a dumbass.”
“Please explain to me exactly how you were being a dumbass in this situation.”
“You literally just said that I was a dummy!”
“That was Jesse of the past. I’m a much more mature man now in my old age.”
You attempt to smack his arm, but he’s saved by the many coils of IVs attached to you, pulling your hand back.
As he playfully rebukes you for attempted physical abuse, another person enters the room. A kind-looking nurse walks in with a clipboard in hand. Wearing dark blue scrubs, a low ponytail, and a surgical mask, she greets you with a friendly wave. She approaches your bedside opposite Jesse, and her glasses-covered eyes indicate a friendly smile.
“Hi there,” She nods. “My name is Yoojin. I’m your nurse today. I’m so sorry for not being here when you woke up. I had to step out for a few seconds, but your brother here assured me that you were in capable hands.”
You turn to Jesse and mouth in amusement, “Brother?”
He suppresses a laugh.
“Later.” He whispers through his mask.
You turn to Yoojin with a small grin.
“No worries. I only just woke up now.” You assure.
She gives you, what you assume, is another smile under her mask.
“So how are you feeling?”
Tumblr media
Jesse remained by your side the entire time, only leaving briefly when he needed to use the bathroom or take a call. He sympathized with your gripes about being bedridden, making lighthearted jokes about your catheter, messing around with the IPC devices off your legs over and over until a nurse came in and kindly asked him to stop.
The TV in your room wasn’t working, so he kept you entertained, cracking his usual dad jokes and telling some old stories of Jackson you hadn’t heard yet. You pretended not to notice that the anecdotes he’d recall always excluded an essential person in his childhood, and you tried your best not to remark on it.
After a couple of hours, Dina finally came around to visit. She walks in as you’re berating Jesse for stealing a fruit cup you knew you weren’t going to eat. The sight of her immediately warms your heart.
“Dina!” You exclaim. “Oh, I missed you.”
Dina sets her bag down next to Jesse, lowers her face mask for a moment to give him a quick peck on the cheek, and pulls up a chair next to him. She takes your hand and beams at you graciously. You notice that her eyes are slightly glassy.
“Oh, babe,” She sighs. “I missed you too. Sorry that I’m just getting here. Had to deal with a few things before I came over.”
“Don’t apologize, D. I’m just glad to see you.”
She squeezes your hand softly.
“I’m so glad you’re awake,” She gulps. “You worried us so much.”
“Sorry about that,” You grin sheepishly. “I was being a bit of a dummy.”
Dina blinks for a moment before giving Jesse a smack on the back of his head at this.
“Oy vey. You asshole.” She chides knowingly.
“Hey! No need to abuse me! I’m delicate.”
He caresses the spot where she hit him as you laugh heartily.
Tumblr media
The couple recounts the events of last night for you, explaining in detail as much as they know. You listen without interruption until they reach the topic of your EpiPen.
“But how’d you guys get to my EpiPen so quickly? Did you pass by my apartment?” You ask them curiously. “I don’t mind if you guys did! It’s just not that close to the restaurant. Wouldn’t have made much sense to book it back to my apartment, honestly.”
Dina and Jesse share a look you don’t understand. Your eyebrows furrow, confused by their hesitation. Eventually, Dina responds.
“Uh, well…” She begins slowly. “Jesse actually happened to have a spare EpiPen at his place. Thank god, right?”
“You did?” You turn your head towards Jesse. “I didn’t even know you had one, Jesse.”
“Y-yeah,” Dina continues cautiously as you notice Jesse’s expression shift to a poker face. “He used to have an, uh, egg allergy growing up.”
“What?” You ask incredulously.
“Yup,” Jesse chimes in. “I grew out of it when I was in high school. But my mom still insists that I have an EpiPen on me. Just in case.”
You continue to look completely discombobulated. You don’t fully buy their story, especially since neither were looking you directly in the face. But you’ve always trusted Dina as a sister and Jesse like a brother, so you half-heartedly accept the tale they’ve decided to present you with.
“Oh, okay,” You say, slightly unconvinced. “Well, thank god for that, I guess. Is it okay that you used it on me, though? What if you suddenly need it again?”
“No worries,” Jesse assures you. “I’ll call my mom and ask her to send me a new one.”
His poker face improves, so you concede for now.
The couple continue to recount the previous day’s events until they eventually catch up to the present.
“Only family is technically allowed to visit you in the ICU,” Dina confesses at one point. “Jesse had to say he’s your brother to get past the nurses' station. The nurse manning the desk at the time could definitely tell we were lying, but she was really nice and allowed it anyway.”
“Oh, gotcha,” You say. “Well, you’re basically my brother, anyway.”
“You should feel so lucky to share the same genes as me.” He boasts, stealthily avoiding yet another smack from Dina.
“What about you, D?” You ask, turning towards her. “What did you say you were? My sister?”
“Nah, I didn’t wanna be siblings with Jesse, even just as pretend.” She grimaces.
“Okay, yeah, didn’t think of that,” You realize, scrunching up your nose in total disgust at the thought. “Gross.”
“Wouldn’t be able to get that image out of my head.” Dina shudders. “Anyway, I told them that I’m your life partner.”
“My what?” You giggle.
“Hey, it counts!” Dina defends. “Well, kind of. The nurse had to list me as your ‘spouse’ instead, which feels like a hate crime.”
“Oh, shut up.” You laugh as Jesse chuckles.
“What? You don’t wanna be married to me?” Dina asks in mocking shock and offense.
“I am absolutely honoured to be married to you,” You assure her. “I’m just worried about poor Jesse. How in the world are we supposed to break it to him that we’ve actually been married for over ten years?”
“Oh, please, Jesse’s known from the start that he’s always just been a side piece.”
“Hey!” Jesse interjects in indignance. “I’m right here.”
“Be quiet, side piece. The wife and I are speaking.” Dina waves him off.
You burst out into laughter at Jesse’s playfully hurt expression.
Tumblr media
The three of you discuss what the doctors have told you, and you eventually bring up the conditions required of you to be discharged.
“I know that the doctors and nurses saved my life and whatever. And of course, I’m very grateful. And I truly do not mean any disrespect,” You say. “But I want to get the fuck out of here, uhh, right fucking now.”
Dina smiles and Jesse chuckles.
“I know, babe.” Dina sympathizes.
“You’ll be out sooner than you know, bud,” Jesse adds. “Don’t stress over it. We’ll get you out as soon as possible.”
“Oh!” Dina suddenly pipes up and reaches into her bag. “I can’t believe I forgot. I brought your phone. I was able to grab your purse for you before the paramedics took you away. I turned it off and charged it at home, so it should have some juice.”
She places your phone in your hand, and you flash her a grateful smile.
“D, you need to be canonized for your good deeds, I swear. With a statue and everything.”
“Oh, I know,” Dina smirks. “Brought your wallet too. Not sure if you wanna keep it here or bring it back to your apartment, though.”
“I’ll ask them if I can keep it here with me.”
A thought suddenly hits you.
“I’ll… I’ll have to figure out how to pay for all this when I get out.” You sigh.
“Oh, babe,” Dina says reassuringly. “Don’t worry about any of that right now. Just focus on resting, okay?”
“Your insurance will hopefully take care of a huge chunk of it,” Jesse contemplates. “It’s through your dad, right?”
“That’s what I’m worried about,” You say as your hands begin to fidget anxiously. “Something as big as this, they’ll probably contact my parents. I… I can’t let them know I’m in here. I know it’ll start shit and… I just know it won’t be good.”
The couple give you identical, concerned looks.
“D-do they know? Th-that I’m in here?” You ask timidly.
“Not that we know,” Jesse replies. “Neither of them is on your emergency contact list. And you know that Dina and I would never speak to either of them. Unless it’s to tell them to shove a stick up their respective asses.”
You and Dina giggle.
“Speaking of which,” Dina adds. “You can ask your uncle. I called him yesterday while you were still out. I hope that’s alright.”
“Oh, that was so thoughtful of you,” You say gratefully. “What did he say? I hope he didn’t worry too much.”
“Honey, you almost died. Of course, he’s worried. He loves you.” She checks the time on her phone. “He should be arriving sometime later today, actually.”
“Shit,” You groan. “He didn’t have to do that. He gets so busy with work during this time of the year. This must have been so inconvenient—”
Jesse suddenly takes his thumb and middle finger and flicks you on the forehead.
“What the fuck!” You exclaim in indignance, rubbing the spot you were hit, as Dina gives him another hard smack on the head. Jesse ignores you both.
“You are more important than any goddamn job that exists in the world, in the whole motherfucking galaxy. Your uncle loves you, just as we do. So no more complaining about it, dumbass.”
You give him a pouty look, but his words fill your heart.
Tumblr media
Your best friends stay the rest of the time until your uncle arrives around midday. Relief and affection overwhelm you when he enters the room. You squeeze him with the tightest embrace you can possibly give for someone essentially strapped to their hospital bed. You ignore the loud beeping resulting from the tangling of your many IV wires.
After your friends help you unravel all the cords, they gather their things and get up from their chairs.
“We’ll let you guys talk.” Jesse says, offering his seat to your uncle.
“Oh, you don’t have to leave.” Your uncle graciously assures them.
“It’s alright; have some family time,” Jesse insists kindly. “I’m pretty sure she can only have two visitors at a time, anyway.”
The couple make their way towards the sliding glass door.
“I cannot express how grateful I am for you two,” Your uncle says before they exit. “Thank you for saving her life. And thank you for keeping me in the loop.”
“Please, no need to thank us, really.” Dina nods kindly. “She’s family. We would do absolutely anything for her.”
“That means you’re both family to me too.” Your uncle concludes. “Thank you.”
You hold back tears of vast emotion from three of the most important people in your life exchanging such caring sentiments. You’ve never felt luckier.
“We’ll be in the waiting room,” Jesse promises. “Let us know if either of you needs anything, okay?”
Jesse and Dina take their leave, and your uncle subsequently takes a seat next to you.
“Oh, Uncle,” You start before he can speak. “I’m so, so sorry. You shouldn’t have flown all this way. I can’t believe I was so stupid to have—”
“Hey, hey,” Your uncle interjects. “None of that. You have no reason to be sorry. You needed me, so I’m here. I’m not mad, and this is not your fault.”
Tears form in the corners of your eyes.
“I just feel like I’ve inconvenienced so many people. If I could have just paid attention…” You lament. “And now I’ve totally made you drop everything to be here. I know you’ve still got work—”
“You are a thousand times more important than my job, sweetheart.” He shakes his head and squeezes your hand, echoing Jesse’s previous words.
“But…”
“You are my family. Nothing is more important than that.”
You smile at his adamancy.
“And especially since losing Rafael,” He continues. “I think of you as my own.”
“I know, Uncle.”
You squeeze his hand back in affection.
“D-did…” You suddenly say. “Did you tell—”
“No, your mother and father don’t know a thing about this.” He answers insightfully.
“Thank god.”
“Did you want me to tell them?”
You grimace. Your uncle chuckles.
“I figured as much.” He surmises.
“I just don’t know how to keep this from them forever, though,” You continue. “They’ll see it through the insurance company. I…”
“Don’t worry about that. I can talk to the nurses later today before I leave, see if I can pay it in full myself without needing to use your father’s insurance.”
“Uncle, please. Please don’t do that. This is going to be so costly, and you’ve still got your mortgage and Raf’s leftover student debt—”
“I just want you to focus on getting better, alright? I don’t want anything else on your plate right now.”
“Uncle, promise me. Please. Please promise me. Do not spend a single cent on this. I want to do this on my own. I’ll figure it out. Please promise me.”
He gives you nothing more than a smile in response.
Tumblr media
Your friends and uncle take turns rotating as your company for the rest of the day. They’d only leave your side when the doctors and nurses needed to conduct extensive tests to ensure that you were still stable. You were never on your own for more than a few seconds, your loved ones determined that you not feel alone.
You’d turned your phone on almost immediately after Dina’d handed it to you. But as a small, gracious gesture of appreciation, you had set it aside to give your visitors your undivided attention for the rest of the day.
It wasn’t until the evening, when your friends and uncle waved you goodbye as visiting hours ended, that you allowed yourself to finally glance at your notifications.
Anxiously picking your phone up, the first thought you have is to call Abby. Jesse and Dina had mentioned she was with them in the waiting room the night before. But, like your friends, she was informed that she wasn’t permitted to see you in the ICU as she wasn’t family. Dina and Jesse sent her home with the promise to let her know as soon as possible when you finally woke up and that you were alright.
You notice that she’d messaged you earlier in the day. But much too embarrassed to face her just yet, you decide instead to first call your old freshman roommate.
Tara picks up after only two rings, almost as if she’d been waiting by the phone for your call. She greets you with a happy shriek of your full name, an amused giggle escaping your lips as a response to her sudden enthusiasm.
“Thank fucking god!!! I’ve been waiting all fucking day to hear the sound of your voice!”
“Umm, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” You reply, smirking. “This is actually Satan, here to leave a message. I’m calling to let you know that I will be collecting your mortal soul sometime during the next 24 hours.”
“Oh nooooo,” Tara plays along. “What on earth have I done to warrant eternal damnation, Miss Satan?”
“Not sure if you know, but homosexuality is actually a cardinal sin. And unfortunately, you seem to be a notorious, flaming homosexual. I know, I know; it’s quite disappointing. But alas, I do not make the rules.”
“But Miss Satan, are you not a homosexual too?”
“Well, that’s exactly how I know it’s a sin.”
The two of you crackle at each other’s banter, and you make plans in your head to spend more time with Tara and the rest of the girls after you’re released from the hospital.
Tumblr media
You and Tara chat for a little while about the most mundane things, like her classes the day before and her plans for the weekend. She apologizes for not having more to say and for “being so boring,” but you’re genuinely happy to just hear her prattle off about anything.
At some point, she hands her phone over to Astrid, who greets you with a similarly delighted shriek that her girlfriend had received you with prior. She gushes over you with love and concern, insisting that she and all the Wilson girls come to visit you as soon as you’re out and adjusted.
“Tara just about broke down when I told her about it.” She reveals. “She was about to leave for her shift at Ruston’s when Dina called, and I’m pretty sure the whole dorm could hear her sobbing.”
“What?! I did not!” You hear Tara shout from a short distance.
“You had so much snot running down from your nose that I just about hosed your face down before you left!” Astrid yells back.
“Stop telling her that! She doesn’t need to hear all that!!”
You giggle at the couple’s repartee.
“Anyway,” Astrid continues. “Kris, Sid, and I tried to come down for a visit, but they apparently only let family in. Jesse and Dina seemed to have monopolized the fake roles of being your family already.”
“Yeah, sorry about that, Addy.”
“Oh, don’t be sorry,” She brushes off. “I’m just glad that you haven’t been alone there. Those two really care about you, you know.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“Dina started to make a whole fuss when they wouldn’t let us past,” Astrid continues. “Threatened to sue the nurses, all the doctors, the entire hospital. The receptionist nurse didn’t even get a chance to kick her out ‘cause Jesse himself forced her to go leave and take a walk to calm down. I don’t think she came back until a couple of hours later.”
“Yeah, that sounds like our Dina.” You snort.
The two of you discuss what you’d like to do whenever you finally get released, Astrid swearing to get you out of your apartment nearly every day after your discharge.
“I don’t think I have all the stamina for all that, babe.” You chuckle.
“Then you better get yourself to the gym with Jesse, and build that stamina the fuck up! I want your sexy self at parties and clubs, living your best 20s life with us!”
You chuckle warily at this, simultaneously pushing away the reminder of who Jesse’s daily workout partner is.
Tumblr media
After saying your goodbyes to Tara and Astrid, you make brief calls to the rest of the girls of the Wilson Crew. They all answer your calls with an assortment of jubilant greetings, each girl expressing their elation and gratefulness that you’re finally awake and safe.
You send individual texts of love to Dina, Jesse, and your uncle, thanking them extensively for coming to your aid and expressing your excitement to see them again very soon.
Having done your rounds of gratitude, you finally acknowledge that you can no longer ignore the unread texts of the blonde-braided woman you’d had your near-fatal dinner with. You open up your message thread with Abby to see that she’d sent you only three texts earlier in the day.
Tumblr media
You stare at her text.
Oh. Huh.
No part of you blamed Abby for the incident; in fact, you’d been feeling a tremendous amount of remorse for putting her through such a traumatizing and jarring ordeal. It had been plaguing you so much since you woke up that you were far too embarrassed to ask Jesse and Dina more about her.
But something about her texts bothers you. There was very little warmth and familiarity in her messages. Her words didn’t seem that of the woman who had been walking you to your classes every day, who showed you off to her friends at the Bow and the Arrow, who treated you to a lavish restaurant on a fancy date. Who kissed you with so much passion on the sidewalk of that same restaurant the evening before.
Is… Is she angry with me?
You continue to stare at her strange messages for several more minutes, unable to process the situation you’re somehow in now. You can’t think of an appropriate response that would lead to something honest, so you decide to put your response off.
A-at least until after they release me… At least until I get home…
Tumblr media
The doctors only began to discuss the possibility of your discharge early Sunday morning. Though it hadn’t even been a full two days since your admittance, it took everything in you not to practically beg them to let you go. You’d been insisting to anyone who’d listen that you were completely fine, that you’d walk right out yourself if you weren’t strapped to your bed with a million wires.
It wasn’t until midday, as you were mercilessly beating Jesse’s Shy Guy as Pink Gold Peach in Mario Kart, that Yoojin walked into your room with good news. You don’t notice her at first, too busy taunting Jesse for landing in 7th place while you scored 1st.
“You only won because I got Lakitu’d in the second lap! Fuckin’ Isabelle was sending red shells at me nonstop…” Jesse gripes.
“Sucks. Sounds like a personal problem, man.” You shrug.
“Alright, I want a rematch, but on the Egg course this time.”
“You’re such a sore fucking loser!”
“There’s a shortcut on Yoshi’s circuit close to where the finish line is, by the way,” Yoojin interjects, eyes smiling. “If you use a mushroom and drift to the hidden waterfall on the right, it’ll get you pretty far ahead.”
You and Jesse look up, a bit sheepish at her witnessing your juvenile behaviour. The nurse looks completely unbothered by it, however, and she approaches your bed as you place your controller down.
“Aww, come on, Yoojin,” You whine. “Don’t tell him that! I’m on a winning streak!”
“Shh,” Jesse shushes you, attempting to cover your face with one hand. “Don’t listen to her, Yoojin. She’s delirious from all the drugs you’ve been pumping her with. I must know all your secrets, ‘cause I swear, this one is cheating.”
“Maybe later,” Yoojin laughs as you flick Jesse’s forehead. “Because you might want to hear what your doctor just told me.”
Your ears perk up at this.
“I can go home?”
“Your most recent labs just came back, and everything looks good.” Yoojin nods. “And your vitals have been stable for the last 24 hours. So unless you plan on wolfing down ten pounds of shrimp sometime before leaving, we can get started on getting you released sometime later today.”
Your face breaks out in a huge smile, and you turn to grasp Jesse’s arm.
“Dude! I can go home!” You exclaim.
“Yes, I heard,” Jesse says. You can feel his smirk through his face mask. “Finally.”
You turn back to Yoojin.
“I can go right now?” You ask.
“It’ll take a couple of hours to make sure everything’s set for your discharge,” Yoojin says, chuckling at your eagerness. “But just hang tight, and you’ll be out of here in no time.”
“Why don’t you guys settle things here while I go tell your uncle?” Jesse offers.
Your uncle had stepped out to get some lunch at the hospital’s food court not too long ago. He and Jesse had arrived on the dot when visiting hours began earlier in the day. Dina had accompanied them but left shortly after to take care of other obligations, promising to be right back the second she was done.
“Oh, that’d be great,” You say. “Thanks, Jess.”
“No worries, bud. I’ll be right back.”
He gives you a pat on the head before leaving you alone with the nurse.
“So before you leave, we’ll go over a few things to make sure you don’t suddenly relapse during the next few days,” Yoojin begins. “And we’ll make sure you go home with a couple of new, unexpired EpiPens, just in case.”
You nod as she goes on to explain the plans for your discharge. You listen attentively, determined not to end up back in the hospital like this again. As Yoojin wraps up, you work yourself up to ask her a question that’s been at the tip of your tongue since the beginning of the conversation.
“Hey, umm, before you go,” You mutter nervously. “I wanted to ask about how much all of this will cost me. I-I know it’ll be pricey and all, especially with two brand new EpiPens, so I just want to be prepared.”
“That’s not really something I can help you with,” Yoojin replies apologetically. “That’s the jurisdiction of the hospital’s billing department. But I’m sure you can get it all settled with your insurance after you’ve been released. Depending on what you have, they should cover most of it.”
You give her a tentative smile as you wring your blanket between your fingers.
“A-alright then.” You sigh defeatedly.
Tumblr media
It takes about two hours for you to finally be released from all your restraints and another hour until you’re finally walking out of the hospital and into the sunny parking lot. Yoojin allowed you a quick embrace before you left, insisting that you promise to be much more careful from here on out.
You lean against your uncle and Jesse for support as you exit the hospital’s automatic sliding doors, legs still a little shaky after being bedridden for so long. Dina pulls up next to you in her car and gets out to open the passenger door.
“M’lady.” She says with a bow, gesturing to the seat.
“Shut up, D.” You laugh, rolling your eyes.
“You sure you’ve got everything?” Your uncle inquires.
“I think so,” You reply. “Didn’t really bring anything with me.”
“Alright, well, I’ll head to my hotel room first so I can take care of a few things. I’ll meet the three of you at your apartment sometime later today. Sound good?”
You, Jesse, and Dina all nod in unison. Before he walks away, you wrap your arms around him in a tight hug.
“Thank you so much, Uncle,” You murmur. “It means so much to me that you came.”
“Anything for you, sweetheart. Anything at all.”
He gives you a quick squeeze before releasing you, promising he won’t take very long before walking away towards his rental car.
“So,” Dina chimes. “Wanna grab some gross, greasy non-hospital food on the way home?”
Tumblr media
When you finally cross the threshold of your apartment, you’d already wolfed down the majority of your fries along with half a chocolate milkshake. You collapse onto your couch with a relieved sigh, your best friends falling next to you on either side. You lean your head onto Dina’s shoulder as you take her hand between both of yours.
“I think I’m about to go into the world’s longest food coma.” You decree.
“I’m right alongside you, dude.” Jesse agrees, having devoured one and a half burgers himself on the way.
“No comas, please, or we’re gonna have to turn right back around and readmit you into that hospital.” Dina says.
“Never again, please,” You beg. “If I have to hear the nonstop beeping of a heart monitor for one more second, I’m going into straight-up fight-or-flight mode.”
Your friends chuckle.
“Alright,” Jesse eventually says as he sits up straighter. “Now that you’ve been freed, what do you want to do first?”
You hum as you ponder his question.
“Get so blackout drunk that I totally forget this entire experience ever even happened in the first place?” You offer.
“Right, well, perhaps we can do something that isn’t completely stupid and detrimental to your health. Especially after you were just in the hospital after almost dying.” Dina retorts.
You boo her as Jesse chuckles.
“Well,” You continue. “I guess I should tell the girls I’m finally out. I promised them I would. Or did you guys say anything to them already?”
“Not yet,” Dina says. “They’ll probably want to hear it from you.”
You groan.
“You’re right. Ugh. I don’t think I can handle the sheer amount of screaming and excitement that’ll come with it, though. Kris sounded like she was going to smother me with so much love that I’d suffocate from it.”
“You can always put it off, at least until tomorrow.” Jesse counters.
“I guess so. You think they’ll be mad?”
“Babe,” Dina says, squeezing your hands and rolling her eyes. “You almost died. I think they’ll survive a day.”
“Alright, alright,” You giggle. “I probably should focus on getting work done before class tomorrow, anyway.”
“Ma’am, I know you are not thinking of going to your classes right after you were just in the hospital all weekend.” Jesse scolds sternly.
“I’m fine!”
“Dear lord.” Jesse sighs, exasperated.
“Like I said,” Dina repeats. “You almost died. School is not a priority right now. You need to be resting, not writing essays and doing homework.”
“I don’t want to fall behind!”
“Didn’t your doctor give you a school note before we left earlier? She said you can give it to your professors to excuse you from your classes this week.”
“Yeah, but it’s not mandatory or anything. I’m fully recovered now, so it just seems totally unnecessary.”
“Like hell it is!” Dina bellows before releasing your hands to stand up from the couch. You fall flat on your face onto her spot when her shoulder disappears from under your head, and you muffle irritated curses into the couch cushion. You look up to see she’s disappeared momentarily into your bedroom.
“D… What are you doing?”
Dina reemerges after a few seconds, your laptop in her hands.
“Babe. What’d you get that for?” You ask suspiciously.
“I’m emailing all of your professors myself to tell them that you will not be attending any of your classes this week. Especially since it seems that you want to be such a stubborn dumbass about it…” Dina says matter-of-factly, shoving your head away from her spot on the couch to sit beside you once more.
“Never should have given you my password.” You grumble as Dina opens up your laptop and easily bypasses your lockscreen.
“Alright, who are all your professors again?” She asks, opening up your browser to access your email.
“I’m not telling you!” You reply stubbornly, crossing your arms.
“Hmm… I know she’s got Olinick’s double class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Mulligan at least on Mondays—” Jesse lists, counting your professors on one hand.
“No, no, no, I don’t!” You turn towards him, shoving your hands in his face.
“—I think Joslin from the English department too, but I can’t remember if that was last year or this year.”
“Jesse!”
Tumblr media
By the time your uncle arrives at your apartment, you’d conceded to your best friends and allowed them to draft an excuse email to all of your professors. Dina opens the door for him after he knocks while you make final edits to your letters, and he settles into the ratty, secondhand armchair right next to the couch.
Your uncle chuckles at the scene before him: you with a focused look on your face typing rapidly on your laptop, Jesse leaning back into the couch while gently patting the top of your head as he continued to make suggestions to your email, and DIna taking her seat right back next to you before kicking her feet onto your lap as you lift and place your laptop on top of her legs. It had been a while since your uncle had seen you so relaxed around other people, the last time being right before your freshman year of college. His fondness for your best friends quickly grows by the second.
You look up from your work for a moment to smile warmly at your uncle, and he returns it with one of his own.
“Hi, Uncle! Sorry, I’m just finishing up this email to my professors.”
“No need to apologize, sweetheart. You telling them you won’t be attending any classes this week?”
“Yup,” Jesse answers for you. “Took a lot of bullying on our part to convince her not to overwork herself with school right now.”
“This dummy wanted to go back to classes right away as if nothing happened.” Dina rolls her eyes as she extracts a foot from underneath your laptop to kick you softly, earning her a stern “Hey, hey, hey!” from you.
“Well, thank goodness she has you two to set her straight.” Your uncle chuckles.
“Oh, she’s absolutely lost without us.” Jesse says, continuing to pat the top of your head.
Your uncle smiles. He can tell that Jesse’s joking around, but he knows that the couple have both been selflessly keeping you alive for the past few years.
“So how are you feeling?” Your uncle continues with concern etched on his face.
“Not so bad,” You admit. “Just so glad to be among civilians once again.”
You feel Jesse rub your upper back kindly.
“I’m sure,” Your uncle smiles kindly. “How about we talk about what you’re going to do now that you’re out?”
Tumblr media
The four of you discuss what the next, post-hospital visit steps would be. They remind you of the check-up appointment you have later in the week, caution you once more about what foods you need to constantly be looking out for, and double-check that you have your new EpiPens handy and within constant reach.
“I still have my current EpiPen in the bathroom,” You say. “It hasn’t lapsed yet. So maybe I can give you each of the ones they sent me home with, if that isn’t too much of an inconvenience to either of you guys?”
You turn towards Dina then Jesse.
“You sure?” Jesse asks.
“Yeah, I mean, I obviously don’t want something like this to happen again. But if, by some hideous trick of fate, I end up in a repeat situation, it might be smart to just have one in multiple places. Just to cover my bases, I guess.”
“I don’t mind at all,” Dina nods. “As long as you have easy access to one at all times.”
“Yeah, that was my thinking too,” You agree. “Plus, I don’t want to have to use one of yours again, Jess.”
“Mm, I guess.” Jesse hums.
Your eyes meet his and you once again recognize his poker face.
“That sounds like a good plan,” Your uncle agrees. “Let’s try not to rely on just luck next time around.”
You give him an apologetic smile.
Tumblr media
The sun had been set for at least an hour when Dina and Jesse finally took their leave. Both offer to stay the night, in case you suddenly need either of them, but you assure them that you’ll survive one night alone just fine. You embrace each of them tightly, putting every ounce of gratitude you have into your hugs.
You settle back onto the couch after you see them both out the door, and you turn towards your uncle still sitting in the armchair.
“I know I’ve said this probably a hundred times the past day or so,” You begin. “But thank you for coming, Uncle.”
“I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if I didn’t come,” He replies. “Neither would Raf if he was still around.”
You both share a sad smile.
“I miss him, Uncle…” You whisper suddenly.
“I know. I do too.”
You sigh before continuing.
“I wish he was still here. I feel… I feel so incomplete without him around. Like this has all been an awful nightmare that I have yet to wake up from.”
“I know just what you mean,” Your uncle laments. “But our lives still go on, sweetheart. I think it’d make him sad to see us grieving him for the rest of our lives.”
“But… it just feels so wrong. It feels so wrong to stop grieving for him, to move on from him.”
“It’s not exactly moving on from him,” Your uncle ponders. “It’s more like… We make a place for him in our hearts. It’s sort of like he becomes a part of us. He’ll always be in everything we do.”
Your eyes well up as a childhood memory floods your thoughts.
Tumblr media
When you were eleven years old, you had your first anaphylactic experience. You and Rafael were hanging out at his house, your uncle at work all day. You were making a mess in the kitchen, developing concoctions with half the contents of the pantry. As you were dumping a bag of marshmallows into a blender full of graham crackers and banana slices, Rafael fished an old bag of chips out of one of the cabinets.
The writing on the bag was all in a language you couldn’t understand, but the superheroes on the front seemed to be enjoying the crunchy snack. Raf was tearing the bag open before your greasy fingers started grabbing at its contents.
It didn’t even take two minutes until Rafael realized something was wrong. You were annoyed and taken aback when he slapped the chips out of your hand. It wasn’t until he was hauling you to the garage and strapping you into the passenger seat that you began to feel dizzy. By the time Rafael had driven to the emergency room, your skin had broken out into hives and your throat felt completely swollen. The last thing that you remembered before blacking out was your faithful cousin scooping you up and sprinting to the emergency room’s entrance.
You didn’t hear the end of it from your parents when you’d woken up from being unconscious after a couple of hours. Your mother spared no shame in relentlessly admonishing you, regardless of who was in the room, for your “stupidity.” The doctors and nurses offered you continuous looks of pity as they had to witness your many verbal lashings, though none stepped in to interfere. You were blamed for inconveniencing the family, for forgetting your EpiPen at home, for “forcing” Rafael to drive a car when he didn’t have his driver’s license yet, for obligating your parents to pay for your medical bills.
From that day on, your fear of your parents’ wrath was far greater than the fear of possibly falling prey to your fatal allergy.
All that gave you hope was your uncle and cousin coming to your defense. Unlike your parents, they showered you with care and love, especially Rafael who felt guilty and responsible for your admission. They nursed you back to health after you were released, Rafael promising you that he’d never let it happen to you again.
Tumblr media
“Can I tell you something, Uncle?” You ask. “I didn’t even tell Jesse or Dina this. And I don’t think I ever could.”
“You never even have to ask, sweetheart. You know you can tell me anything.”
“I…” You gulp. “There was a point… while I was in the ICU that I was a little lucid for a few moments…”
You wring your fingers together in uneasiness as you stare down at your lap, unable to meet your uncle’s eyes.
“I… I didn’t know what was happening to me. I didn’t know I was going through anaphylaxis again. But I just knew… I felt that something was wrong with me.”
Your uncle listens to you intently, his chin on his hands folded as if he were praying.
“Something inside me… Somehow, I knew that I was dying,” You continue. “Or I knew that at that moment, I could die. I could keep going… or I could choose to let my body give out completely.”
You finally meet your uncle’s gaze.
“And I wanted to. I wanted to just… go,” You confess. “Not in a s-suicidal way. Not exactly, at least.”
Your eyes fill with thick tears.
“But… I wanted to be with him again. I knew that if I gave in, if I succumbed to whatever was killing me, I would see him again.”
Your bottom lip shakes as you continue.
“I miss him so f-fucking much, Uncle. I don’t know how to go on without him around. I’m so l-lost and confused, and all I want to do is talk to h-him about it. But I can’t. There’s n-nobody else in this world that I’ve ever felt as close to as him. Maybe except—”
You break off before you can finish, shaking off the memory of ocean green eyes and a constellation of freckles. The look on your uncle’s face tells you that he already knows how your sentence was going to end, but he says nothing.
“He told me he’d never let anything happen to me. He was always supposed to be here with me,” You sob. “I know that’s selfish. I know that his life didn’t revolve around me. But so much of mine did. I planned… I built my life to always include him. Now what the hell am I supposed to do?”
Your uncle’s sad eyes watch as you roughly wipe your cheeks of the tears uncontrollably streaming down.
“Sweetheart…” Your uncle begins as he stands up from the armchair to sit next to you on the couch. “You are not selfish. I know how much he meant to you. How much he still means to you.”
He takes your hands between his.
“I just…” You sniffle. “It’s been years. I thought I’d healed from it already. I thought I’d moved past all the pain.”
“It’s not a continuous thing, dealing with your grief.” Your uncle smiles softly. “You’ll have moments, hard ones where it’ll all feel raw and fresh again. It doesn’t mean you’re weak or selfish. You just have your own way of handling your sadness.”
You nod in acknowledgement of his words.
“But I think we both owe it to Raf to live our lives, to be happy without him around,” He continues. “His gift to us was time. Time with him and great memories. Even if he’s no longer with us, we’ll continue to carry that gift with us wherever we go.”
Your uncle smiles and you return it, though wistfully.
“I’m very grateful that you trusted me to share this with me,” Your uncle begins. “But don’t be afraid to talk about this with your friends. Especially those two.”
“Jesse and Dina?”
He nods.
“I see just how much they love you,” Your uncle says. “They seem like they would do absolutely anything for you. And I am so grateful that you have people like that in your life.”
“Yeah, they… mean so much to me.”
“I’m glad. So, please. If I’m not around, don’t be afraid to confide in those two. I’m sure if the roles were reversed, you’d do the same for them.”
“I’d do absolutely anything for them.”
“Exactly. So don’t be afraid to embrace the love in your life. You deserve that. And that’s exactly what Rafael would want for you.”
You throw your arms around your uncle and sob into his shoulder.
Tumblr media
You and your uncle continue to talk for a while until you realize that it’s nearly midnight. Like your friends, he offers to stay the night in case you need him. But you know his flight home was only in a few short hours, so you insist that he go back to his hotel to get a bit of sleep before he needs to leave for the airport.
It took everything in you not to beg him to stay, but you couldn’t bear troubling him further. And you longed to finally have some time to yourself, so you put on a brave face.
After your many assurances that you would take care of yourself better, you walk him to your front door. When you open it up, you both notice a simple brown box with a thin bow placed on top of your doormat. You pick it up, noticing how light it feels in your hands.
“What is this?” You mutter.
“You got a package?” Your uncle asks, looking at the box.
“No… I didn’t order anything.”
“Strange. Maybe your friends Dina and Jesse left it for you.” He offers.
“I… I guess,” You frown. “Although, I don’t really know why they wouldn’t just give it to me when they were here earlier.”
“Hmm, that’s true,” He hums, squinting his eyes at it. “A secret admirer, perhaps?”
“Ha ha, Uncle. Very funny.”
You give him an amused grimace before untying the bow and removing the lid. You gasp as you recognize what it contains.
“Oh…”
You drop the box and embrace its previous contents.
“My Barbie Bear…”

reader's first words after waking up is inspired by me saying, "i need to poop so bad" when the doctors were busy working on me in the emergency room lmaoooo
silver lining of me being in the icu back in december is being able to describe it in detail in this chapter hehe. being in the icu suuuuucked but mostly cause it was boring and cold and i wasn't allowed to get up to pee!!!
the nurse yoojin is named after one of my nurses while i was in the hospital. i loveddddd her, she was such a sweetheart and it made me so happy whenever she was assigned to me. i was rewatching arcane while i was in the hospital, and she saw and asked me about it, and then we gabbed about the show and league of legends (cause she religiously plays the game but hasn't watched arcane yet), and i eventually convinced her to actually watch the show heeeheee
reader’s uncle saying he sees reader as his own is what uncle iroh says to zuko in atla, fun little easter egg heehee (you know me and my love for easter eggs)
reader greeting tara on the phone as satan was how i first greeted my best friend when i was finally able to call her through the public phone in the psych ward (hi rhi LOL)
pink gold peach is my main in mario kart lol
reader's professors mentioned are all named after old professors from my former college's theatre department (rip dennis, miss you always ❤️)
reader’s uncle telling her “we make a place for him in our hearts” in regards to rafael is what tara in buffy the vampire slayer says to dawn when their mom dies (can you tell i love btvs)

George Wickham isn't bad in that way (which is the best thing I can say about him)
A lot of online discussions label Wickham from Pride & Prejudice as a pedophile because both of his victims, Georgiana Darcy and Lydia Bennet, were 15/16 years old. However, I am very certain this was not Jane Austen's point, and it also papers over the big differences between Georgiana's and Lydia's cases.
(This post isn't graphic but I'll put the rest under the jump)
Firstly, Georgiana's age was about her vulnerability to manipulation, not attraction. If Georgiana was older and out, she probably would have not fallen for Wickham and agreed to run away because she would have had other competing choices and more information about the engagement and marriage process. The time is chosen because she is ignorant, under the care of someone who is willing to betray her, and Wickham wants her money. I'm pretty sure he would have gone for her fortune even if he was adverse to her appearance.
Secondly, Lydia runs away with Wickham because she is following her mother's misguided, "husband at any cost" philosophy, there is no evidence in the book that this was a premeditated plan of his. The plot to elope with Georgiana was premeditated, but from everything in the book, Wickham was running away from debt and brought Lydia along for funsies because she offered. The point of Lydia's elopement is that she was too young, too ignorant, and not well protected. Her parents made a huge error in judgment allowing her to go to a place where she might fall victim to something like this. If it wasn't Wickham, it could have easily have been someone else, like Willoughby, almost the same thing happens to Eliza Williams under nearly the same circumstances.
Thirdly, the age of consent was 14 at the time and Lydia at least was "out". So culturally, he's going for people who would be considered "women" though most people at the time also would have thought they were marrying too early. So many people in the novel say Lydia is too young. (The average age of first marriage was 23.4 (Women's History of Britian, 2005)). Also, I think Jane Austen, who rarely describes anyone in detail, going out of her way to make Lydia the tallest of the sisters and also describing Georgiana as very tall, and describing both of them as fully developed, was her making the point that this wasn't Wickham having an attraction to prepubescent girls. Not that liking barely legal girls is great, but it's more like a modern guy dating 18 year olds when he's 30 icky than illegal.
It was about how girls who are too young are far more vulnerable to mistakes, empty promises, and manipulation.
So yeah, Wickham is the worst, but he's not that bad. This is the most I will ever say in his defence. I hold out a fond hope that he died in battle and Lydia gets a second chance at life. Or ran like the coward he is and then was court marshalled.

You could feel the cool night breeze against your cheeks as you gracefully leaped through the air. It was a tranquil night in Gotham, the perfect backdrop for criminal activities.
Upon descending from the side of the building, you headed toward the front entrance. Naturally, the door was locked. You reached for a bobby pin from your hair and crouched down to examine the lock. Inserting the pin, you heard a satisfying click as the door unlocked. A self-satisfied smile crossed your face as you returned the bobby pin to its place. Inside, you inhaled deeply and exhaled, a smirk forming as you dropped your duffel bag. Rifling through it, you retrieved a homemade C-4 like device. With practiced ease, you entered a password on the screen and affixed it to the wall near the safety deposit boxes. After a few seconds, the device beeped, and the boxes popped open with a hiss. Your first-time trial was a success, and you couldn't help but smile.
Swiftly, you went through almost every box, finding mostly deeds and divorce papers. Fortunately, you stumbled upon some jewelry, and someone even carelessly stashed a wad of cash inside, which you promptly pocketed.
Once your bag was stuffed, you exited the building unnoticed. Scaling the side of the building, you reached the rooftop to survey your surroundings, ensuring no heroic intervention was imminent. As you counted the money you had collected, a pair of feet landed behind you. You sighed in annoyance and slowly turned around, still clutching the cash.
To your surprise, it was Robin.
A few years back, after robbing a jewelry store, Selina had persuaded you to take a break from a life of crime, deeming it too perilous and unpredictable. Only recently had she allowed you to return to your illicit activities. You took a moment to observe him, noticing his increased muscularity and shorter hair. With his mask on, he would be unrecognizable anyway. "You got taller," were your initial words.
Little did you know that Damian was scrutinizing you as well. The last time he'd seen you, he was just 14 years old. Normally, he wouldn't care much about his adversaries, let alone think about them as much as he did about you. Even though you had bested him the first and only time you'd crossed paths, he couldn't help but think about you.
"And you got curvier," Damian blurted out, unable to prevent the words from escaping his mouth. He mentally scolded himself for succumbing to his intrusive thoughts.
You gave him a quizzical look, unsure if he was attempting to flirt with you. He didn't strike you as the flirting type. Shaking your head, you slapped the cash against your palm and rocked on your heels. Slipping the money into your bag, you slung it over your shoulder. "Well, it was nice seeing you again, but I gotta go." You turned to walk in the opposite direction, but a force struck you from behind, sending you tumbling to the ground, landing on your stomach with your chin scraping against the pavement. You groaned and rolled over, just as Damian unsheathed his sword in a graceful forward roll.
"Didn't your mother teach you not to hit a girl?" you taunted.
"No, she threw me into the League of Assassins, where I was trained to be a cold-blooded killer," Damian replied.
Damn.
Damian rushed toward you, his sword slicing through the air. Swiftly, you rolled out of the way, but he managed to slice open your bag instead. You stood up as he charged at you again, the absence of your bag making the fight a fairer match. You assumed it would be easier to defeat him this time, just as you had when you first faced off.
As you prepared to throw a punch, Damian seized your wrist and struck your elbow, simultaneously sweeping your leg from under you. You crashed to the ground, landing hard on your back and knocking the wind out of you. He threw away his sword and grabbed you by the collar of your suit, cocking his fist back and delivering a punch to your face. The ringing in your ears intensified as the blows continued.
Foolishly underestimating Damian, you realized he was much stronger than he had been four years ago. He was giving his all, determined not to stop until you were defeated. Gathering enough energy, you managed to kick him off you. As you wiped your nose, feeling the blood trickling from your lips, you stood up, reminding yourself that you were not your mother.
You landed a few punches, but Damian's strength remained a significant advantage. He kicked you in the stomach, causing you to tumble toward the edge of the building. He slowly approached you, grabbing you by the hair to lift your head off the ground. He surveyed your bloodied and battered face, sighing as if regretting what he was about to do. With nothing left in you to fight back, you braced yourself as he delivered a final blow that sent you over the side of the building, hurtling towards the ground.
You clutched your book tightly to your chest as you navigated the bustling hallway. Skillfully, you maneuvered past the people blocking your path, making your way to your locker. After shoving your books inside, you retrieved the ones needed for your next class. However, you couldn't shake the feeling that someone's intense gaze was fixed on the side of your head. You glanced to your left and found yourself locking eyes with a pair of piercing green ones. Damian stood only a few feet away, next to his own locker. You let out a resigned sigh, anticipating that he might deliver another one of his lectures.
A few weeks ago, Damian had been assigned as your tutor for the rest of the year, given your struggle to keep up with your classes due to frequent absences. Neither of you had welcomed this arrangement, but your slipping grades left you with no choice but to accept help, even if it meant being tutored by the most arrogant person you'd ever encountered.
As Damian approached, you couldn't help but speak up, "What do you want, Damian?"
"I want you to meet me at my dorm once classes are over," he stated, his tone more commanding than inquisitive. You arched an eyebrow and closed your locker. "For what? We don't have anything scheduled for today."
He merely sighed. "I just need to have a word with you," he said and walked past you without further explanation. Your eyes tracked his retreating figure as he disappeared down the hall. You couldn't help but mutter, "Who does he think he is?"
After the school day ended, you complied with his request and made your way to Damian's dorm. You knocked and waited for a few moments, unsure of the reason behind this unusual request. Damian seldom engaged with you outside of tutoring, making it clear that he wanted nothing to do with you ever since you'd punched him in the face.
Once Damian finally came to the door, he said nothing when he saw it was you. He just stepped out of the way, allowing you to enter. You walked into the small dorm room, which was plain but tidy. The walls lacked decorations, reminiscent of how your dorm looked when you first moved in. Damian's tie and blazer lay discarded on his neatly made bed, leaving him in his half-buttoned dress shirt with rolled-up sleeves.
“So, what did you want to talk to me about?” you asked, taking a seat on the edge of his bed, being careful not to disrupt the bedding.
Last week, when Damian came to your dorm to study, his eyes caught sight of something on your nightstand—an emerald green necklace that almost perfectly matched the color of his eyes. It had looked familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. A few days ago, it finally clicked in his head where he had seen it before. Too much evidence pointed to you being someone he desperately did not want you to be. He would never admit it, but you were growing on him, and he secretly enjoyed your company. To confirm his suspicions, he needed one more piece of evidence.
"Let me see your hand," Damian abruptly requested.
"What?"
"Your hand, let me see it." Without waiting for your response, he took hold of your hand and examined your palm. He noticed a scar running diagonally across it, he remembered when you came to school with it bandaged up. You had told people it resulted from a kitchen accident, but he knew the truth. Damian was piecing everything together like a puzzle. It would explain why he often caught you sneaking into the dorms late at night, as well as why you were frequently late to class and tutoring.
It was you.
He just couldn't figure out how you were alive. He had believed he killed you. His heart ached at the thought.
You watched as Damian traced the scar on your hand with his thumb, his touch sending a tingly sensation through your skin.
"Damian...?" Your voice came out softer than intended. When he heard his name, he looked up at you, his eyes conveying a mixture of fear and regret, emotions you never thought you'd see from him.
"I know," he simply stated.
Confused, you shook your head. "You know what?"
And then it clicked. He KNEW. Why else would he be so interested in your scar? You thought you had done a good job of keeping it hidden. In fact, you had done a good job. The only way he would know was if he had been there.
You withdrew your hand from his. "You're Robin?" You didn't receive an immediate response, which confirmed your suspicion. You sighed, unsure if you should be upset or not. After all, it's not as if the two of you were best friends who had promised never to lie to each other. You did feel somewhat guilty for beating him up, but he had almost killed you in return.
"I'm sorry," he finally admitted, looking away, as if he couldn't bear to make eye contact while apologizing. It was a momentary lapse of his ego.
"Damian Wayne apologizing?" you said, a smug grin on your face.
He rolled his eyes. "Don't get used to it."
You laughed and playfully nudged him. You noticed a small smirk tugging at his lips, and it made your own smile grow wider.
Surprisingly, you both sat in a comfortable silence for a moment before Damian decided to break it.
"How did you survive that fall anyway?" he asked.
You chuckled. "No one told you? I'm like a cat, Damian. I have nine lives."

STWG daily prompt 14/9/23
prompt: "You know what? It's not me, it's you."
pairing/character(s): steddie
-
Steve tries to ignore his father's irritated gaze as he eats his food. Bringing Eddie to a rare dinner with his parents was definitely a bold move, but he knows that if Eddie wasn't here he wouldn't survive it. Steve could barely force himself to come back to Hawkins for it, but his mother had guilted him into it.
It's so hard to pretend not to be hurt when his parents ask him things that prove they know nothing about him. (Especially now that he's nearing thirty and has started thinking about having kids himself.) But it's easier with Eddie's hand on his knee, his thumb rubbing back and forth for comfort.
"Steven, I thought I told you this was a family dinner." Robert says, pointedly looking over at Eddie.
To his credit, Eddie looks very comfortable despite the uncomfortable situation. He's meeting Robert's eyes for the subtle glares, and hasn't toned himself down at all. Steve's so glad he's here.
"Yep. You did." Steve answers his father, voice clipped.
Robert rolls his eyes, and that's when Linda finally speaks up. She's nicer about things than Robert is, but it couldn't be more fake. She offers Eddie and Steve a very tense fake smile.
"I think what Robert's trying to say is that we didn't expect you to bring a friend, sweetheart."
This time Steve rolls his eyes. How many times does he have to come out to them for them to stop ignoring it.
"Eddie's not a friend, mom. You know this."
"Steven." Robert warns.
"No, dad. I'm fucking tired of it." Steve says with an incredulous laugh, and Eddie gives his knee a gentle squeeze to catch his gaze.
"It's okay, Stevie."
The sweet tone of Eddie's voice calms Steve a little, and he's about to take a deep breath when Robert slices through the sweet moment.
"Now you're letting him call you a girl's name? I can't believe what this miscreant is doing to you, Steven."
Eddie rolls his eyes at the comment, and from the set of his jaw Steve knows he's gritting his teeth to hold himself back.
"You used to be such a lovely boy, Steven. But if you're still... Adamant about this lifestyle, then I don't know if we can support it. It's very unreasonable and irresponsible of you." Linda adds on.
Steve laughs again at the insinuation that they've ever supported him at all, and lifts a hand to run through his hair as he thinks through his next words.
"No, mom. You know what? It's not me that's being an unreasonable piece of shit here. It's you two. You practically dragged me back to this shithole because you're 'grieving' grandma. I didn't want to come. I don't want to be here right now. But I am. And you're just..." He trails off and makes a vague gesture to the two of them.
Linda's mouth has dropped open from her own son swearing at her, and Robert's face is twisted into an expression of anger. Steve doesn't know why he thought this was anywhere close to a good idea.
"I mean what is this? Why am I here? I am twenty nine years old, and I will not sit here and listen to you talk to the man I love like this."
He makes direct eye contact with Robert as he speaks, not softening his glare at all. If his parents are going to drop the facade of respect, so is he. In fact, after glaring at his parents for a few seconds, he just gets up, grabs Eddie's hand, and pulls him toward the door.
"Fuck this." He mutters as they leave.
"That sucked." Eddie comments once they're in their car, and Steve huffs out a strained laugh as he nods. Now that they're out of that situation, and his adrenaline is starting to crash, inexplicable tears are starting to well in his eyes, "But you have also never been hotter. Standing up to the man like that? Most elaborate foreplay ever, Stevie-bee."
And then the ridiculousness of that comment shocks a laugh out of him, and the tears are gone. He grins over at Eddie and shakes his head at how Eddie's clearly holding back his own laughter.
God, he loves him.

2023
"Diana, are you ready?"
The woman's attention was immediately captured when Mark Webber, who had offered, along with Jenson Button, directing the documentary, spoke to her. Quickly, she put her mobile phone in her blazer pocket and nodded at the former driver, indicating that she was ready to start filming.
"Alright," Mark announced. "Remember, Diana, just as we rehearsed with your husband during the script reading: you introduce yourself, talk a bit about what you're currently doing, and then we start talking about your childhood, just from when you were born until you were accepted into the Toro Rosso internship program," the Australian said.
The readhead swallowed, sat better and looked directly into the camera, that was already recording without the woman being conscious.
Immediately, as if she knew what was happening, she began to speak to it:
"My name's Diana Vettel, I'm 34 years old and, as you might already now, I'm wife to four-time Formula 1 World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. However," she clarified, "I prefer to be known as his race engineer for ten years, from 2012 to 2022 and, currently, I'm the co-director, alongside Susie Wolff, of the F1 Academy," she smiled proudly.
Sebastian entered the studio where the shootings were taking place, and when he saw his wife so self-assured, he couldn't feel anything but proud of her. There was no doubt that those sleepless nights, consoling her tears for not feeling enough in a male-dominated world, and the years of visits to her psychologist, which she still attended, had had an incredible effect on her.
"Well, wait!" Diana suddenly exclaimed. "We can't forget that I'm the reason behind Seb's first victory in Formula 1. Monza 2008, to be more precise," she confirmed, causing laughter from the ones around her.
"We already know quite a lot about Vettel's childhood, but now: what can you tell us a little bit about yours?" Button inquired, sitting next to Mark behind the cameramen.
Diana tensed up. It wasn't that she was afraid to recall her childhood, but she didn't consider it significant enough to be in the documentary. Moreover, talking about her private life... let's just say she didn't like it a lot.
The German knew his wife so well that he could vence how she was feeling at the moment. She had the urge to get up and give her a comforting hug, but he also knew that the recording couldn't be interrupted. For that reason, he simply smiled at her from his seat while giving her a thumbs up.
Diana, after seeing Sebastian doing that, laughed.
Since 2008, halfway through her second year as a Mechanical Engineering student and after joining the Toro Rosso internship program, she didn't know how the guy who initially seemed to be a jerk, ended up becoming her whole world.
"It's quite simple, Jenson: I was born in Linz, Austria, on April 27, 1988," began the woman. "My mum decided to end her life when I was 14, back in 2002, and that was the main reason why my dad took both my sister and I to Spain so we could start all over again."
Diana stared into the camera, beginning to ponder the impression people might have of her after that brief introduction.
Mark adjusted himself in his seat, ready to shift the conversation away from the glances Sebastian seemed to be directing at him. He had been fortunate to get to know the couple during his time at RedBull, and he had no doubt that both of them had changed a lot since then, especially the German.
“But every bad thing has something positive, right, Diana?” questioned Webber. “You always say that, and the fact that you’re here now is proof of it.”
“Exactly,” continued Jenson. “This might sound a bit bad, but if that didn’t happen, you wouldn’t have met Seb.”
Mrs. Vettel nodded.
“It was all because of my father actually, who couldn’t bear the stares from neighbors, his coworkers, and the harassment my sister and I faced at school too,” explained the woman, her tears slightly evident. “We did it without thinking: we packed our most important belongings, my father quit his job and, a few hours laters, I was on a plane all the way to Barcelona, with no knowledge of Spanish and no expectations about what could happen in my new life.”
That made Sebastian remember one of the first conversations he had with Diana, where the young woman told him she felt more Spanish than Austrian.
“This is the first time I speak publicly about my childhood,” said Diana, wiping away smeared makeup with a tissue given to her by production. “I’m sorry, really: I always try to think that I’ve overcome it, but the fact is that you never really overcome it.”
“Do you feel more comfortable now that you’ve shared this with the audience?” Webber inquired in an attempt to console the young woman.
The redhead looked at Sebastian, who was visibly concerned at that moment.
“No,” she replied, “quite the opposite, actually. I think I’m even more vulnerable now, and social media criticism is going to pour in, but I’m glad I did it because I’ve taken a weight off my shoulders,” she listed, “and I also know that many viewers will realize the importance of mental health, especially in those moments when everything seems fine when it’s actually the opposite.”
“Is that a hint, sweetheart?”
Vettel, who already knew the answer, sarcastically commented. Still, he needed his wife to confirm it on camera.
“Everyone knows that when I gained confidence in myself, I never beat around the bush; this wasn’t going to be an exception.”
“What do you think is the highlight of your sudden move to Spain?” Button asked Diana.
“Being accepted into the Toro Rosso internship program,” she replied. “That’s when my dream of years started to come true, although hell also made its presence felt.”
Sebastian smiled, remembering it all too well.
The best was about to begin.
“Those who know me well know that I’ve been a Formula 1 fan since I was a child. 1994 is the year I remember the most, especially when Michael became world champion,” explained the Austrian, reminiscing early memories as an enthusiast of the sport. “I was only six years old, but that image is engraved in my memory.”
“For that reason, I decided to study Mechanical Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña,” the woman continued in perfect Spanish, surprising everyone in the room except Seb.
“And that was before she even met me,” Sebastian chimed in, causing laughter among those present. “That was a great bonus.”
Taking the documentary seriously was going to be difficult, but as the woman used to say, within all those hard times, a laugh made it all forgettable.
“I studied for years, trying to give my best to get the highest grades,” Diana continued, “and I did it after achieving an average score of 9.28 out of 10 in selectividad, the Spanish entrance exam you need to take in order to study a degree.”
“Tell them if you really needed such a high score, Di.”
The girl laughed at her husband’s comment. She already knew where he was going with that.
“In fact, no: the cutoff score was, I believe, around a five out of ten. I just pushed myself to the limit because I was ambitious and wanted to be the best, too,” she smiled, a slight blush appearing on her cheeks. “Well, and I still like to be the best.”
“See why we got along so well from the beginning?”
“That’s debatable, Sebastian,” remarked Webber, “bet let’s let the viewers hear your story little by little.”
“Indeed, Mark,” agreed Jenson Button with him, “let’s take it step by step. Diana, what made you join Toro Rosso?”
2007 December 3rd
Barcelona, Spain
The first semester of the second year of Diana being a university student seemed endless.
Final exams were approaching, bringing with them the submission of multiple papers, projects, and even some practical written tests. Adding to this, her father had recently lost his job just a few weeks ago. It was easy to understand why the Austrian, who had considered herself Spanish for years, was dozing off in one of the chairs in Room 7, even though it was time for one of her favorite classes: Fluid Mechanics.
As soon as Dr. Martínez stepped into the classroom, all the students stopped talking. Even Diana, who had closed her eyes for a few seconds to see if she could quell her sleep, opened them quickly. The woman, in her fifties, was one of the most beloved professors by students; at the same time, she was considered one of the strictest, and that's what made her one of the most wanted by universities not only in Spain but worldwide.
For this reason, and especially because she always fought for visibility of women in the scientific field, she was Wagner's favorite.
"Good morning, class," she greeted, positioning herself in the center of the platform where she usually lectured. A smile on her face appeared. "Before I start explaining the new topic, which I remind you is the last one for our January exam, I would like to share some news that I know will be interesting for most of you."
At these last words, those present began to pay even more attention, readjusting in their seats curious about what the woman had to announce. Diana was no exception.
"Some companies in the field of engineering have started offering scholarships for students like you to work with them while continuing their studies. For the most talented, I must say," she added with certain authority in her voice.
Excitement and anticipation for the announcement filled the room, where some surprised noises and, in other cases, disappointment, were heard.
"These scholarships offer the opportunity to have a unique experience, allowing you to enter the workforce earlier than expected. At the same time, it will help you start applying everything you have learned during this brief year and a half, and see if you are suited to do the job."
Murmurs began to fill the class. It was a truly incredible opportunity, and it would be rare for someone not to want to be part of it.
Diana, whose mind was always one step ahead, was already wondering which companies would be part of it. For that reason, she decided to raise her hand to ask.
"Miss, I would like to know if you could share more information about the companies that are offering these scholarships."
The woman nodded, thankful for the question from her favorite student and pleased to see her interest once again.
"Of course, Diana. There are leading companies in the field of automotive engineering, aerospace engineering, and something related to renewable energies, which are becoming popular. Each one has a different focus, with a wide variety of projects and areas, so I'm sure there will be interests for each of you."
The young woman's mind began to process all the information, looking through the possibilities the woman had mentioned. While her dream was to work in the automotive world that she was so passionate about, and the path was proving extremely challenging, the possibility of being awarded a scholarship was what made her cling to a distressing hope.
"To apply in this sort of internship program, you will need to send your CV and a letter explaining to the company why you would like to join them," the teacher explained. "Then, some responsible figure of the respective companies will choose the most outstanding students, I guess."
During the remaining class time, Diana could barely pay attention to the explanation. She was excited, and she would dare say scared, about this kind of talk that was taking place. Her innate curiosity made her want to know more. Therefore, when the teacher announced that the class had ended, and her classmates began to leave the room, the twenty-year-old started to pack her things slowly, making sure no one else was there before speaking with her teacher.
"Dr. Martínez, do you mind if I ask you some questions about the internship program?"
"Of course," she replied as she gathered her documents. "Tell me what's on your mind, Diana."
The girl tried to disguise her nervousness, clearing her throat before speaking.
"I have doubts about whether to apply to any of the companies. Honestly, I don't think they'll choose me because I'm a woman. I sometimes struggle to talk to my classmates, so I can't imagine what it would be like for me to apply for a position like that."
Martínez raised her gaze to the redhead, now dyed blonde, full of understanding.
"Diana, I understand that you're worried," she began, placing her hands on her shoulders, "but I want you to know that you are one of the brightest students I have had in these months, and I would even venture to say in my entire teaching career," she explained sincerely, earning an excited smile from the girl. "Keep in mind that, whatever you do, your gender doesn't have to be an obstacle for you to fight for what you want."
Those last words resonated strongly in Diana's mind, who was quite moved at that point. That was exactly what the young woman needed to hear.
"Also, I’d like to tell you something I haven't mentioned in class because I only want you to know, given your interest in a certain topic," the woman continued, further catching the student's attention. "The Toro Rosso Formula 1 team is offering a single position as an assistant for a race engineer, but I don't know which driver in particular."
Diana's eyes widened, not believing what she had just heard from her teacher. The idea of working in Formula 1 was the reason why she was there, striving every day even when she felt like giving up everything.
"Do you think I should send them my application, then?" Wagner asked, intending to make sure before making a hasty decision.
"Absolutely," Dr. Martínez affirmed firmly. "You are an exceptional student, and you have demonstrated great skills in just a year and a half of your studies, which impresses me quite a bit, to be honest. You have the potential to do great things within Formula 1, and I know you will go far if you make it to the sport."
As Diana continued to listen to the woman speak, she couldn't believe there was a chance, even if it was minimal, that her dream would come true. What she didn't like so much was the fact that the woman spoke as if she were already inside the world, but she could do nothing but get excited.
If her application was denied…
“By the way, Diana, are you free during the next hour?”
“Yes. In fact, I was about to head home,” answered Diana, questioning the woman in front of her. “Do you need something?”
The woman affirmed, nodding slightly.
“Let's create your cover letter and resume so we can send it as soon as possible,” she said, taking the lead. “I'm sure many of my colleagues in the department know this information just like me.”
The young woman agreed, and immediately they headed towards Martínez's office, trying not to attract too much attention among the students and, above all, hurrying as much as possible. In those moments, time was of the essence.
Once there, the professor took a seat in front of the computer and offered Diana the seat opposite her. Before the redhead had even let go of her belongings, the teacher was already pulling a stack of papers and a couple of pens from one of the desk drawers.
"Your resume comes directly from our database, but the cover letter doesn't," she explained briskly. "I want you to write down whatever you feel is the reason why you need that position at Toro Rosso."
Having said that, Martínez put on her glasses and focused her gaze on the screen, ignoring Wagner. The girl didn't know what to do or say. Who was she supposed to write to, Franz Tost? No, she was sure team bosses weren't the ones in charge of reading those letters, if anyone read them at all.
"Try to make it as natural as possible," the woman commented to her student without looking at her. "Make them see that you have a passion for engineering, for the sport, and especially, make them miss you when they haven’t met you yet."
Make them miss you when they haven’t met you yet.
Diana took a deep breath and began to let her ideas transfer to paper, flowing without much thought.
Dear members of the Toro Rosso team, it is an honor to have the opportunity to apply for this internship position in your prestigious racing team. Since I was a child, I have always dreamed of being part of the wonderful world of Formula 1...
No, too fanciful and flattering. The young woman crossed everything out, and seeing that she was starting to feel confused, she crumpled up the paper and set it aside on the corner of the table.
Dear Mr. Tost and the rest of the Toro Rosso team: I would like to express my sincere interest in the position of race engineer intern. As a Mechanical Engineering student, I have acquired skills that I would like to develop professionally and, above all, apply them to the field I have been passionate about since I can remember.
Why was it so difficult to write something just to try to make your dream come true?
Pilar Martínez glanced at Diana and shocked her head. That girl who was showing so much insecurity at that moment, as happened in many classes, had the potential to become one of the greatest prodigies in motorsport.
"Don't overthink it, lady," she said affectionately. "Show your true personality and, if you need to, just take a little break before continuing."
The girl shook her head. She simply closed her eyes and imagined what she wanted most at that moment: her, sitting in front of a wall of screens, with headphones on, communicating with Michael Schumacher about what he should do in every turn and straight, when he should pit for a tire change, and even celebrating the occasional victory.
Who said Schumacher, said Alonso. She would even settle for one of the rookies, like that guy who joined Toro Rosso halfway through the previous season and she liked a little bit, Sebastian Vettel.
After several more attempts, she finally brought out everything she wanted to say. She had never felt so proud of any of her writings; not even with her graduation speech in high school, which made the entire teaching staff cry.
Dear members of the Toro Rosso team, With my heart filled with excitement and, especially, gratitude for the opportunity given to university students like me to be part of your team, I submit my application for the internship position as a race engineer. My name is Diana Wagner, I was born in Austria nineteen years ago, and my heart not only belongs to Spain, the country that welcomed me when I needed it the most, but also to the sport of which you are a part: Formula 1. My journey as a Mechanical Engineering student has been short, but I assure you, intense; at the same time, I have grown and learned a lot not only as a future professional but as a person. Throughout this year and a half, I have acquired a wealth of skills and knowledge thanks to the professionals from whom I am fortunate to receive instruction, and if it weren't for them, I wouldn't have the necessary preparation to face certain challenges—although, not deceiving you, I have a long way to go and much to learn. Every subject studied, project completed, and tear shed has been an opportunity to test and prove to myself that even the impossible is difficult. Beyond my knowledge as a student, I would also like to tell you about my passion for the world of motorsports, as I briefly mentioned before. Since I can remember, I have followed every free practice, qualifying, and race, as well as every press conference of each Grand Prix. The deafening sound of the engines, the suffocating speed of the single-seaters, and the passion that teams and drivers have shown have not only been my inspiration to pursue my studies and shape my future but also to grow as a person. In the darkest times of my life, Formula 1 became my light, and it still is. Like drivers work tirelessly to give their best, I also strive to overcome the limits imposed not only because I am a woman, but also because I am too hard-working. Therefore, I know that the opportunity to work alongside the professionals that make up your team would be an unparalleled honor, and I assure you that every day I would show you that I am capable of more. I deeply appreciate the time you have taken to read my cover letter. Although it may be hard to believe the words of a girl who, after all, is still a teenager trying to make her way in the adult world, I assure you that I have to prove much more than what you think.
Possibly, those last words were what made it possible for Diana Wagner to be the selected candidate as an intern at Toro Rosso among approximately two thousand of the best students from all over Europe.
2008 March 13th
Australian GP
“Sweetheart, are you sure you have everything with you?”
The bleached blonde was certain that she did, that she had everything she needed for her new job except for one detail and, surprisingly, the most important one: knowing where she had to go. In front of her was the entrance to Albert Park, and all she felt was a great overwhelm from the size of that circuit. She saw people coming in and out of the venue constantly, both walking and in vehicles that probably cost as much, or even more, than the flat she lived with her sister and father in Barcelona.
“Yes, of course,” she replied, trying to sound as calm as possible. “I'm waiting outside for someone to come and meet me."
“But didn't you say you had to go inside, and that someone would be waiting for you in the box?”
She hated how blunt Amelie was.
“I'm more lost than during my exams period when we first moved to Spain,” she joked. “Now I'll try to figure out what to do. There’s no need to worry about me.”
Bernhard started shouting something in German to his younger daughter, and immediately continued talking to Diana. It seemed surreal to the girl that her family was making a phone call with her at two in the morning in Spain.
“You better get in there, even if you have to jump over a fence!,” he shouted in German, a little annoyed. “And I don't care if you get caught or anything: you haven't traveled to the other damn end of the world and left me with your sister, all alone, just for you to stand there with your arms crossed.”
When Bernhard Wagner got angry, he did, and a lot.
“Yeah, Dad, I know,” she replied, a bit angry because her father seemed not to trust her. “In fact, I'm getting closer now, I have the pass they sent me by mail in my hand, and I'm going through the accreditation with this weird machine. I'll hang up, okay?”
It was a rhetorical question because Diana, before being able to hear an answer from her father, hung up the call. As she let out a long sigh, held in throughout the phone call, she passed her accreditation through the identification sensor, but the photo they asked her for months ago didn't appear.
Again, she tried, and nothing appeared on the screen. She kept trying over and over, which managed to attract the attention of more than one of those present, who did nothing to help the intern.
“Damn it…”
After that, Diana began to unleash a string of curses in German, some of which she had made up on the spot and made no sense at all. She couldn't believe that it would be more difficult than she had planned just to enter the venue and talk to whoever she had to talk to. She was a firm believer in destiny, and she knew that it meant she had to go back to Spain, to her natural hair color and to her university courses.
Frustration was taking over the Austrian, and she was sure that, if she hadn't heard a male voice in German beside her, she would have burst into tears like she never did before.
“Do you speak German too? Do you want me to help you with that?”
Diana nodded her head and looked up at the person who was talking to her. A blond guy, of medium height, who seemed to be a couple of years older than her, was the one who was talking to her. His face was somewhat familiar, although she still couldn't put a name to it.
Another mistake for the rookie Diana Wagner. Of course, if there were other interns besides her, she was sure she wouldn't win the Intern of the Year award, if such a thing existed.
“I tried to get my accreditation to work, but, as you can see” she began to explain, pointing at the card, “it doesn't want to let me into the paddock.”
“Do you mind giving it to me?”
The girl offered it to him without hesitation, feeling much more relaxed in the company of that driver, in case he was. He proceeded to clean it a bit with his shirt a couple of times and immediately passed it again through the scanner.
Her name, along with a photo of her with her newly dyed blonde hair, appeared on the screen.
“So... Diana Wagner, huh?,” the guy inquired, wanting to know more about her. “What brings you here?”
“As they told me a few months ago, I am Toro Rosso's new intern. Supposedly, I'll be subordinate to a track engineer or something like that, I'm not really sure what I'll end up doing.”
The girl answered him honestly, and to her surprise, the stranger seemed to understand something that had been on her mind for a long time, as if he already knew who she was.
“Vettel is going to be damn lucky to have you,” he said shamelessly, “and I would be delighted to have a girl like you by my side too.”
Diana felt her cheeks flush, and although deep down that comment had bothered her, she couldn't help but feel flattered in part.
“And are you supposed to be...?”
“Nico Rosberg,” he took the girl's hand and gave it a short kiss, “F1 driver for Williams. It's an honor to meet you, and let me tell you that, if you get bored with the other blond German, you have privileged access to my box whenever you want.”
Putting on his backpack and giving the girl a slight bow, he left without giving any explanation.
Diana was left bewildered by what she had just experienced. However, even more impressed was Sebastian, who began to feel sorry because he knew that, no matter how much that blonde-haired girl tried to give her best, they would only minimize her achievements.
[...]
After a couple of laps around the circuit, and some explanation of how Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends worked, Diana Wagner was already sitting at a long table with Franz Tost, Toro Rosso's team principal.
The man, despite showing a quite serious demeanor, maintaining composure at all times, had inspired enough confidence in the intern for her to open up a bit to him, especially talking about how her career was going; they also discussed how the blonde would balance her studies with her new job. All this while her supposed boss and the driver she would be subordinate to appeared.
A few knocks on the door startled her. Tost, as if he already knew about the imminent arrival, got up from his seat and headed to the door. As soon as he opened it, it revealed a man in his thirties accompanied by a boy who was already wearing the team's uniform.
Although he looked like Rosberg, at the same time, she could tell he was completely different: his face was longer, and his height seemed to be a few centimeters shorter. He had a big smile on his face, and as soon as he entered the room, he started making jokes that even made the girl laugh.
She barely knew that boy, and he already inspired trust in her.
“Alright, Diana,” announced Franz, causing her to stand up quickly: “this is Alex, who will be, let's say, your master in terms of track engineering,” he introduced the man, shaking his hand, “and this is Sebastian Vettel, one of the young promises we are lucky to have in our team.”
The blonde cheerfully extended his hand to the girl, who accepted it gladly.
“Please, Franz, don't say that,” joked Vettel, “I'm just a kid with incredible potential waiting to get a world title or something similar.”
The intern laughed, immediately regretting it. Her shyness was showing, and Sebastian noticed it, so that's why he decided to gently stroke her hand, slowly enough so that no one else, besides them, would know about that small gesture.
“See?,” said the German, now addressing his engineer, “I told you she was going to like me.”
2023
“That season was a mess,” said Sebastian, looking at the camera while fixing his hair. “The first four races ended in a DNF, and my motivation went down completely” explained the former driver. “The car was crap, but not finishing four damn races? Shit, I didn't want to say bad words…”
“What Seb means,” his wife stated, interrupting him, “is that he had much higher expectations in March 2008, and little by little, he started being conscious of reality. I went through the same thing: even though I thought I was going to do little, I ended up doing even less.”
The documentary directors recalled that information.
“The camera is yours, Mrs. Vettel,” one of the cameramen spoke over, receiving a thumbs up from the redhead.
“There's not much to say, really, except that I remember thinking about leaving because all I did was sit in front of the screens and watch the race just like I did from the TV in my house,” she expressed a bit angry, remembering everything all too well. “And of course, the comments and looks couldn't be missing. I felt like a Playboy model sometimes, I swear. They even mistook me for a grid girl one day entering the pit lane!”
“God, yes,” Seb agreed, joining his wife's monologue. “I don't know if you guys remember,” he pointed at Jenson and Mark, “but there were times when, I swear, it felt like it was more of a Jersey Shore-type show or something like that than a race weekend.”
Diana agreed with the German.
“I think, if I remember correctly, I received a total of forty-eight requests to go out for a drink from Friday to Sunday,” she tried to remember. “Well, a drink and a sex session after that, let's be honest.”
“And I'm glad to say that I wasn't part of that group of assholes,” he covered his mouth directly, receiving a reprimanding look from Webber. “But I had a reason not to.”
“Yes,” the redhead agreed, “although it's not the time to talk about that. Remember sunshine: let's go step by step.”
“It's not to stay on Sebastian’s side,” interrupted Button the couple's dialogue, “but since the moment he first met you, he had incredible respect for you, and I would even dare say admiration.” Vettel snorted, remembering some of the many rumors the girl he fought so much for had to face. He remembered more than once hearing her going to vent in Toro Rosso's bathroom, and even on more than one occasion, he heard her secretly talking to her father, asking him to please fake some illness or something to get out of that.
Ironically, it came true.
“I've been Diana Vettel's number 1 fan since the day I met her,” confessed Seb. “Since March 13, 2008, to be more precise.”
Everyone was impressed by Sebastian's memory, including Diana.
“In addition to the announcement made during the German Grand Prix week, where it was finally revealed that you would join Red Bull the following year thanks to Coulthard's retirement, becoming my teammate,” Mark continued, laughing, “there was another event that marked you in 2008, shortly after.”
“It seemed like everything was going downhill for this lady here,” Sebastian pointed at Diana, “and for me, and that our effort was in vain.”
“But Monza changed everything because Sebastian and I discovered that, together, we could do great things,” continued the woman, trying not to kiss her husband, who had a huge smile on his face, in front of everyone.

Hell Fire (Eddie Munson x Henderson!Reader)
Summary: You've been sleeping with Eddie for awhile. You start seeing him more and more even when you're not with him. You can't help feelings of jealously when he deals to another girl which results in an interesting confession.
Warnings: NSFW, car sex, public sex, unprotected sex, dirty talk
Can be seen as a continuation of Eddie The Freak Munson or as a stand alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
God you hated the photo of the hellfire club your mom hung up on the fridge. You hated it for many reasons. The first was the fact that you had Eddie smirking at you every time you opened the fridge. The second being the way Dustin stood so close to Eddie. It make your heart melt as you saw them so close together. Dustin really admired Eddie and you knew this. And the fact that Eddie stood next to him the photo made your heart do flips.
Third reason was because it was starting to make you like Eddie. Eddie The Freak Munson. Liking him? No god he was revolting. He played D&D with your 14 year old brother and this friends. He has been a senior for 3 years in a row. He smelled like pot and cologne and firewood all at the same time. He had that stupid long curly hair. He had those stupid soft brown eyes. The most exuberant, soft, friendly person you’ve probably met. You couldn’t like him you just couldn't.
Yet here you are standing in front of the fridge staring at Eddie as he looks back at you. A smirk on his face. Wearing those tight tight jeans. Those goddamn rings.
You shook your head from the thoughts and onto new ones. Like what if Eddie didn’t even like you a little bit. What if you were only just sex for him. He had no feelings, platonically or romantically.
“Y/n! Earth to y/n.” Dustin said waving a hand in front of your face “We need to leave for school now or I’m gonna be late to my emergency hellfire club meeting!”
“Ok, ok Dustin. I'm coming.” You said rushing to grab your keys and leave out the door. Dustin was waiting by the car as you unlocked your side and then unlocked his.
“I think Eddie has a crush on you.” Dustin said out of nowhere on the start of your drive to the school.
“What why?”
“He's always asking about you.” You look at him and shake your head. “Always asking if you're picking me up and stuff.”
“Well maybe he just wants to make sure you have a ride.” You smile at him.
As soon as you put the car in park, a sudden bang erupts throughout your car as hands slap the top of your car on Dustin’s side. You turn your head to the obnoxious kid who did that. To no surprise it’s none other than Eddie. Dustin opens the car door and gets out. The window is rolled down when Dustin shuts the door.
“Thanks for getting him here extra early.” Eddie says winking his eye. You nod your head and give him a strange smile before rolled up the window.
-
You're laying in his bed. Recently you’ve started staying longer. Sometimes not even having sex. Just chilling out, talking.
“You know I have that photo of you and hellfire on my fridge. My mom insists on putting it up cause it’s like one of the only photos she has of Dustin, Lucas and Mike together.”
“Aww isn't that sweet you get to see my pretty face every day.” You roll your eyes at his remark. He jumps into bed next to you also staring at the ceiling.
“Dustin looks up to you so much. You’re so sweet to him and his friends. Thank you.” You say looking over at him. Your heart swells in your chest as you anticipate his answer. “I was just afraid they weren't gonna fit in anywhere, but then they became friends with you and I know I shitted on you for it but thank you.”
“You ramble when you're nervous.”
“Nervous? I’m not nervous.” You say in a stern tone. Eddie just chuckles.
“They're good kids. He's a good kid.”
“Yeah they are.” You breath out. You turn to look at Eddie’s clock and see the time. “Shit I gotta go home.” You string up from the bed and start putting on your shoes.
“You know you could just start staying over.” Eddie sits up, holding himself up with his elbows. “Like spending the night.” You feel yourself tense for a split second, you’re sure he can tell. You want to leap into his arms and tell him yes you would love to. But you can’t.
“Yeah right, we’re not girl friends who are gonna paint each others’ nails and have a pillow fight.” You shake your head.
“Awe you don’t wanna paint my nails.” He grins with a tug of his lips. “We could always have a naked pillow fight.” You shake your head once again and focus on putting your other shoe on.
-
You walk into the cafeteria with Nancy. You can already see Eddie standing on a table working his table with one of his speeches. You roll your eyes and make your way past his table. His gaze follows yours until his eyes land on your ass.
“Shit Y/n looks good in those tight jeans.” Eddie says, biting his knuckles in a dramatic fashion.
“You say that everyday.” Jeff looking up at Eddie.
“This is it fellows, today is the day I make her my girlfriend.” He says dramatically jumping off the table and sitting back down.
“Is she even gonna say yes.” Gareth snickers with Drew next to him. Eddie shoves his shoulder lightly.
“Of course she is. She can’t get enough of me.” Eddie boosts.
“Then why doesn't she talk to you at school.” Jeff speaks up.
“Who doesn't talk to you at school?” Dustin asks as he sets his lunch tray on the table.
“No one, little Henderson. You wouldn't understand such high school relationships at a young age.” You had Eddie swear he would never tell your brother. You didn't have the heart to tell him the truth. And if you did that was a little more than you could handle.
-
“Heyyy beautiful.” Eddie swings his body into full view when you turn away from your car to face him.
“Hi Munson.” He grabs your wrist and starts smoothing your palm with his thumb.
“Ouch just Munson?”
“What do you want?”
“Don’t have to act so nasty, no one is around for miles, sweetheart.” He wasn’t wrong. While hellfire did just finish, Dustin hitched a ride with Mike while you stayed at school finishing something for the newspaper alone. It was about 4 o'clock and the sun was turning into a golden color. You look around and see he isn't lying. You grab his jacket and open the back seat of your car, pulling yourself and him inside.
-
“God just fucking take it.” Eddie moaned in your ear. He was fucking you from behind as you were bend over the backseat. His hand was in your hair pulling it back slightly. He was balancing himself between the floor and the seat in order to be able to inch himself inside of you.
“Not so afraid of anyone seeing you now baby, are you?” He pouts to you as he starts to thrust himself deeper and quicker into you. You’re already a panting mess at the first few thrusts. Eddie is still fully clothed as his pants hang around one of his ankles. Your skirt is just hiked up with your panties pushed to the side. “So dirty, letting me fuck you in broad daylight in the school parking lot.” You gush around him at his words as he begins to start hitting the most delicious part inside of you. Both you’re tightening up around each other. You’re happy he put on a condom today so he can come into you.
He pulls out of you with a sight as you both relax your bodies. You turn around so you’re facing him and sitting on the seat. Eddie pulls up his pants and joins you. You’re both panting messes as you try to adjust to your surroundings. Eddie turns to look at you, you’re not paying attention to him, looking in the direction of the school. He moves his hand to grab your chin and pull you into a kiss with him. The kiss is soft and passionate. You despise it. It's making you want him even more.
“You good?” He whispers after pulling apart the kiss.
“Y-yeah, yeah of course.” You say smiling at him.
“I gotta deal at 5:30, wanna wait here with me and then we can go back to mine?”
“Yeah sure.” You say again still smiling. You didn't want to make it sound obvious that your heart was being pulling at two opposite ends. That you were fighting between primal wants and realistic needs.
Eddie tells you to pull into the back parking lot of the school all the way in the woods. As you approach the lot another car is there and a girl is waiting outside. Samantha Thompson. A cheerleader of course. Eddie told you multiple times that he was trying to deal to her but they never worked out. However now they are. You pull a few stops next to her and you watch Eddie get out.
You watch the whole encounter with red in your eyes. Eddie is being his normal self, his normal charming self. And this girl is eating it up, she’s giggling and swaying her hips from side to side.
You hear almost all his words, they sting you. Stinging you with a feeling in your heart you have never felt so immensely. It’s more than jealously. It physically hurts your body. It physically hurst your heart. You turn your head from the scene and just continue looking forward. In a few seconds, Eddie is jumping into the seat next to you.
“How was it?” You say trying to hide your anger.
“Good, got money for pizza tonight.” He said waving a $20 bill in your face. You roll your eyes and continue your drive to his trailer.
“Really treating me tonight.” You say sarcastically as you pull into the trailer park.
-
“Oh please, ‘flattery works on me’. What were you trying to get her to fuck you!” You scream in his face. You don't remember how the argument started but it did. And in a manner of minutes your emotions were flooding through you.
“You really can’t handle me talk to any other girls than you.” He boosts.
“Shut up.” You grit. He shakes his head at you.
“You always do this, act all jealous of other girls who I obviously don't like but then you don’t wanna make what we have official.”
“Fine then make me your little girlfriend. Make me your girlfriend that's gonna follow you every where and worship the ground you walk on. I’ll just be your stupid little girlfriend.” The air becomes thick at your words. Eddie stands there for a moment before he grabs your shoulders and pushes your lips into his. Your mouths meet for a passionate, hungry kiss.
“You know I hate you.” You grit against his lips as you start throwing your shirt off. He smiles against your lips.
“That’s not what you say when I’m inside you sweetheart.” He says throwing you onto the couch. God you were in for a long night.
-
“Oh that’s right take that dick baby. You wanna be my girlfriend? You wanna be my little stupid cock dumb girlfriend?” He has your body against his as he hits it from behind and his hand in your hair. You can hear the leather of his jacket move against his body every time he thrusts into your body. His mouth is right next to your ear, muttering the most filthy things. You can’t say anything else except nod to his questions.
You look up at his face and you whine at the sight. His stupid fucking eyes. His goddamn soft brown orbs staring into your with the most admiration you’ve ever seen on someone's face.
“Fuck wanna be yours, wanna be yours so bad.” You whine as he continues to hit the best spot over and over again.
“Fuck yeah you do baby. Gonna show everyone you belong to me. Gonna show all those boys you wanted me over them.”
“Always wanted you over everyone else.” You pant out. You can feel your stomach’s knot grow more and more as he continues pounding hard thrusts into you. “Eddie, please. You feel so good.”
“Yeah I know baby, I’m close to.” He starts relentlessly pounding into you as a desperate attempt to make you come and by god it makes you squeeze around him in orgasmic pleasure faster than you anticipated. Eddie quickly pulls out of you and will just a few jerks of his dick he’s coming onto your back. He lefts out a serious of moans as his sticky substance coats you. You hear him leave the room for a minute before you feel something soft on your skin and then you realize it’s a towel. He wipes you off before turning you over.
He tosses the towel onto the ground as he pulls on his boxers and hands you his hellfire shirt. You put it on as you throw your head back on the couch in tiredness. You both sit there I silence for a few moments.
“So you like wanna be my girlfriend.”
“Y-yeah. Yes I do.” You say relaxing into him as his arms wrap around your body.

I’m now imagining Bee and Dee are the exploding distraction from Ali and Ari who steal everything in sight 🤭
Circus of Trouble
Tumblr media
Support on Ko-Fi
Check out Old Men Series <<<
• Buggy felt truly blessed- A famed pirate, a loyal crew,He had a beautiful partner, two healthy boys and now two healthy girls. What more can a man ask for!?
• The famed clown pirate was overjoyed to have his daughters, he'd always had wanted daughters and he finally got them.
• He had painted the nursery on the ship, decorated it fully in pastel circus themed and had custom cribs for each girl. {He also got the twins their own room and decorated it with them, He let's them share a room since they prefer it anyway but have custom separate beds}
• Spoils them rotten- Absolutely rotten from the very beginning
• You can already tell from a early age that the girls have more of Buggys personality then most would expect-
• Ari was the embodiment of Buggy's egotistical ways- She was loud, bossy and had his temper. While most of the time she was a sweet girl who loved to make those around her happy if you told her no-
Better prepared-
• Ali was his more Quiet side- A manipulative petty backbone that was quiet but prepared to strike. She was a adorable girl, shy beyond all belief and clung to her brothers and dad- However piss her off she knew how to use other people.
• However both twins had two things in common-
• One was a infinity for shiny things and stealing...
• And second was stealing..
• The discovery of this was then the twins were just 5 months old- their eyes focusing in anything that was shiny and immediately bolt for it- taking whatever it was and either chewing on it or stashing it away.
• In short anything was a fair game for the Twins.
• "I'm missing my medallion-" Buggy huffed as he searched His cabin room he shared with you. You also looking around "I can't find my earring-"
• You two look at each other blankly before going to the nursery on the ship- already knowing only two people could have stolen from you.
• Quickly you both find Ali chewing the medallion and Ari clenching several shiny things in an iron grip-
• "Sorry Cherry's but you can't have these" Buggy starts, Kneeling down to take them. Immediately being met with resistance by both girls-
• You look at Buggy amused as he kept an eye closed at to try and tune out Ari screaming bloody murder on his left side while Ali pouted and tears silently ran down her cheeks in his right.
• "Can't wait for those teenager years huh?" You mused and Buggy gave you a glare at daring to mention that-
• He wants them to stay his baby forever..
Bonus Story!-
Tumblr media
• Buggy had done his best to keep his family away from his work- Especially when he joined the Cross Guild and accidently became their leaders.
• No one besides his crew who were all quiet about his family knew- not wanting to put you or the kids in danger.
• However it seemed some thing just didn't work out for Buggy-
• Both girls had gotten a cold when a important meeting with Crocodile and Mihaek was taking place-
• You had a cold as well worse then the girls so you were at the hospital and couldn't watch the girls- The twins who were 14 did try their best but 14 year Olds watching 2 year Olds didn't exactly mix.
• He couldn't have Cabaji watch the girls since he was watching the Twins and Alvida wasn't exactly a baby person- Mohji was out on a mission with Galbido
• Aka. He was fucked-
• So he had to improvise! With both girls in a stroller he snuck into his own building and quickly went up to the conference rooms
• So he got to the meeting room early and found a side room that connected to a secondary conference room-
Perfect.
• He set up the stroller so it was more comfortable for the girls and gave them their sappy cups of water and a timer for their medicine which they couldn't have yet. Changing their diapers he put them to bed. Rushing out of the side room to the Main conference room right ad Mihawk appeared-
• It didn't take long for the meeting aka bullying to start- Buggy of course doing his normal yelling antics, However every 10 minutes or so would stop whatever he was doing and drifting to the side room.
• At first it was ignored till the third time- "Buggy what are you doing?" Mihawk questioned. Buggy glaring at him- "NOTHING!"
• Annoyed at this point Crocodile stood and marched to the side room to see- Buggy screaming in surprise.
• "WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING STAY AWAY FROM-" Crocodile cut off Buggys head and tossed it across the room before slamming open the door and seeing.. a stroller
• Both former Warlords looking surprised at the sight. Two toddlers bundled up well clearly with some form of sickness and a cool rag on their foreheads- The red noses cluing them both immediately.
• "Their mother has a too so I'm watching them.." He hissed angrily as he floated his head back to his body, clearly defensive of his children being found out.
• "I'm just surprised you have children at all- or that someone would sleep with you" Crocodile jest and Buggy glared at him as he picks up Ari who was starting to fuss and checks her forehead. Feeling her fever had indeed gone down.
• "I actually have 4 kids with the same women" He grumbled setting her back down with a sigh.
• For the first time the two other men actually felt some level of respect for Buggy- With all his flaws he seemed like a good dad.
• This ends with Mihawk holding Ali and Crocodile holding Ari while Buggy portioned out the children's cold medicine and talking over paperwork.

Your first vivid memory of yourself and your best friend is from a summer evening at the beach. Everything is clear in your mind, from the time you arrived in the afternoon, to lunch, and finally, the time spent between the water and the sand. You and S.coups had been best friends since birth; your cribs were close, and your mothers had met in the hospital and ended up becoming great friends.
From the earliest age, you were used to doing everything together, so much so that no one could tell if you were close friends or siblings. Regardless of how you appear; spending so much time with a person tends to make you resemble them.
You had similar tastes in everything - from simple preferences for snacks to choices of games to play together. Between you two, he was slightly more extroverted and found it easier to talk to people. But being such good friends, you - who were initially more reserved and introverted - ended up resembling him in this aspect as well.
Even the more negative traits were shared - like stubbornness or sensitivity. But these weighed much less; you were good to each other, and everyone could notice that. You had also formed a group of friends, with whom you often gathered in the afternoons to play.
This had also happened on that hot summer day. You had arrived in the morning, but all of your friends had left shortly after lunch, leaving only you and S.coups to complete your project of immense significance and excellent architectural attention: a sandcastle.
6:06 p.m.
"We need more water. I'll go get it," he had told you as he stood up with the bucket and came to the sea.
"I can do it! You can finish the towers since you're more precise."
"No, I'll go because I'm stronger. You're a girl."
"But I'm faster!" you replied with a challenging tone.
"That's not true," and he turned around, running.
You followed him without hesitation. Your laughter resonated on the now-empty beach; the breeze ruffled your hair, and before you knew it, you were the first to reach the sea.
And when he got to you, he "accidentally" pushed you and caused you to fall into the water. You were near the coast, so you could touch the bottom, and you took advantage of the situation by dragging Scoups into the water and pretending to take his hand to pull yourself up. A water splash war began; the more one of you moved the water, the other responded with equal vigor. Laughter, splashes, and the sound of your bodies moving through the water filled the silence on that summer evening.
Your castle was never finished - and this memory would haunt you in the future - because your parents came towards you to call you as it was getting late, and it was time to go home.
So, you started walking towards the car; both of you were still soaking wet, and you shared a large towel for the entire journey back. During that ride, you sang your favorite songs at the top of your lungs, imagining yourselves as famous singers with a microphone and a big audience.
If you closed your eyes, you could still vividly see your best friend at the age of seven, moving his lips with his eyes closed, singing various songs with his already splendid voice.
The ride back was short, or at least it seemed so to you because you had focused only on the two of you singing. You helped your mothers cook dinner, which was based on ramen. S.coups was busy chopping vegetables while you set the table. Meanwhile, your conversations were varied; from regretting not finishing the sandcastle to discussing who among you was more in tune. Later in the night, when the spontaneous question of what you wanted to be when you grew up developed, your talk would be further explored.
But before that, there was a moment of play after helping clean the kitchen when everyone finished dinner. Playing activity games led to lying on the floor and starting a long game of Monopoly. You knew the rules well enough to the point that you ended up dividing all the money in the bank and started buying and stealing houses from each other, easily ignoring the original rules.
You remember perfectly the fake pout put on by your best friend when he realized he had been tricked several times by you. His arms crossed, and his gaze turned elsewhere as he tried to scold you for your immorality and for how wrong you had been.
The mood, however, quickly dissipated because your genuine laughter had enchanted him, distracting him from the original reason for it.
So, the late hour arrived, and both of you put on your pajamas and lay down to sleep.
Your bodies were exhausted, but your young minds were not. You returned to the topic that had characterized your conversations many times: what you wanted to do when you grew up.
S.coups was so sure he wanted to become a singer that it became a habit for you to listen to him talk about all the things he would do once he became famous.
Thinking back, it warmed your heart when you noticed that in all his plans, he was never alone - it was always Scoups and Yn.
You also shared your dreams, and you both promised to be each other's number-one fans - supporting each other's choices and ideas. In the end, it was almost as if dreams had become another thing you shared.
"Cross on the heart, we'll be together forever, and our dreams will come true a thousand percent!!" you both said in unison at the top of your lungs, as if it hadn't long passed the time for both of you to sleep.
You vividly remember looking into his eyes as he made that promise; the moon was the only source of light faintly illuminating his face, and his smile was barely perceptible. The bond of trust that united you was deep, and on that summer night, for the first time, you felt him very close to your heart - you couldn't explain why, perhaps because you didn't care to understand it. You were happy, and that was enough!
Your summer days spent together would be many more, as well as the years you had planned to spend together.
In no time, your conversations became more and more confusing, and the words became slurred. Without realizing it, you fell asleep - facing each other, with a faint smile on your faces and your eyes closed peacefully.
The vivid memory of every moment of that day would come back to you at least one night of all your subsequent summers - regardless of how everything had changed over time in a completely unexpected way.
You'll remember those times with melancholy because they were over and with joy. After all, they were there.
Tumblr media
The second vivid memory you have with your best friend takes place during a winter. Your 14-year-old selves were returning home from a long snowball fight that had lasted all afternoon on a Friday night when the snow was falling heavily.
It began as a competition to build the most beautiful snowman, then evolved into a team effort to create one together, and then ended in the destruction of your work and a snowball war.
Competitiveness raised your spirits, but your best friend unexpectedly gave up and joined you after raising the white flag.
He'd whispered an excuse for his defeat, meaning that he wanted to leave that happy memory of your win rooted in your mind.
At that moment you did not fully understand his words, but they took on another meaning after the news you learned that evening.
So you walked into the house, where the pleasant aroma of pizza filled the air. Not even time to take off your coats began your competition to get to the kitchen first.
When you arrived, there was a table set for the two of you and a message from your parents telling you that you and S.coups would be eating alone and that a hot pizza was waiting for you in the oven.
You remember your best friend's smile as you read aloud the message left, and his excitement at the idea that you could spend the night together watching movies and eating anything you wanted.
After your victory greeting, which included a 3-second handshake and a pirouette to each other, you determined who would shower first while the other looked for movie marathon alternatives to watch that night. You both assumed you'd be able to stay up all night.
You won and quickly showered.
As soon as you came out, you noticed S.coups concentrating as he read the list of movies you had made - you swore that, for a moment, his eyes had appeared glazed over, but at the sight of you he had quickly composed himself.
He had run toward the shower, and instead, you had noticed a note with three options, including one of them written in big letters: " CHRISTMAS MOVIE + STUDIO GHIBLI MARATHON."
You didn't ask too many questions - on the contrary, you thought about how much those films had been a fundamental part of your childhood, and your heart warmed.
When your best friend returned from the shower, you were still thinking about the order in which you would watch the movies. When you looked up to discuss your decision, you noticed that the boy was holding a towel and wasn't wearing a T-shirt. You immediately shifted your sight and quit speaking.
S.coups looked perplexed, but he quickly realized what was going on.
His lips formed a pleased smirk.
You were teenagers, and even though you had shared everything since you were younger, those awkward moments - the ones of contact with reality - deepened your bond.
"Put a shirt on."
"Why should I, huh?" he asked, chuckling.
"It's winter...you might get sick." you stammered as you pulled yourself together and went back to look at him.
"Okay," he snorted at you.
So your gaze was drawn to his back as he struggled to put on the pajama shirt he kept in your house because you were like siblings.
The boy was a dancer, and the results were visible on his physique; his muscles were well defined, and his movements were incredibly harmonious, to the point that you were charmed observing him
You were thrown back to earth by a sneeze.
"Yn...your hair is still wet - he told you as he laid his towel on your head - and then you tell me to be careful not to catch cold.." he continued as he quickly dried your hair with the towel.
You laughed too, and as S.coups's movements warmed you up a little.
At that moment, the vivid memory focused more on how you felt.
For a few seconds, neither of you had spoken, as if both of you had been stuck in your stream of thought. For the second time that day you noticed his gaze fixed on you, but his as he wandered elsewhere.
A snort and a smile interrupted that moment, and you proactively got up to take the hot pizza out of the oven.
S.coups towel was left on your head, and you vividly remember the scent of the vanilla-flavored bubble bath used by the boy being overpowered by that of the pizza fresh out of the oven.
You turned around and saw him sitting with a fork and knife in hand smiling, and ready for dinner.
Before long the pizza you had in front of you was over, and thanks to the light topics discussed the time had, to say the least, flown by.
You had discussed as much and as little as which of your professors would be most likely to win in a fight - both of you were convinced it would not be the English one - or whether there were more stars or grains of sand in the world.
After these deep discussions, you moved to the couch and set up the television to begin your marathon of Home Alone, and the Studio Ghibli films.
The evening began with the Christmas movie and continued with Totoro, whose initial song the two of you were happily humming the refrain.
You had always been used to being together, and from an early age physical contact had been a present element in your friendship.
As you grew up, it was as if a veil of awkwardness had appeared but at the same time, it was as if your deep friendship had overcome it: proof of this was the position you were in.
He sat, and you with your head over his legs while he stroked your hair and you scratched his arm. Nothing strange, nothing mischievous or sensual, simply two teenagers watching a movie together for the umpteenth time.
The more you try to recall that vivid memory, the more you begin to notice how many times your gaze had crossed and how you had been the center of the boy's attention.
You hadn't paid too much attention at the time; you both knew the movies by heart, and you were both exhausted.
But you still started at 11 pm Spirited Away.
With dreamy eyes, you looked at the world represented by the film, and with the same eyes, S.coups looked at you.
You noted he seemed thoughtful because he commented on the movies less than usual, but you had seen him weird all day. It was only then that you realized there was something he had not yet told you but was on the verge of telling you.
Only you knew him well enough to sense it without him saying anything.
When the film was over you began to pay more attention to S.coups attitudes.
He stroked you more gently than usual, and never had he pulled your hair or pinched you as he usually did in a friendly way.
The third film on the list was your movie, Howl's Wandering Castle.
And, as difficult as it was to tell your friend that you were tired and that it might be better to go to bed, you chose that option because you were becoming concerned for the boy. He gave no sign of resisting, which made you certain that something was going to come out that night.
And so for the umpteenth time, you found yourselves lying in a bed together; there had never been any awkwardness because you had always filled the silence with words or music.
But on that winter night, no one dared to utter a word - almost as if you were both aware that there was whatever you would say would come out unpleasant.
There was only a dim bajour lighting the room, and you could occasionally hear the sound of your breaths.
"I'm moving out tomorrow."
Few words, many feelings, many tears, and few reactions.
"Really?"
"Yes. But not by my will, my parents are moving."
"Oh."
You could not process a single word, no rational reaction was accomplished by you or him.
Both of you stood motionless, staring at each other.
His eyes struggled to maintain eye contact, occasionally moving to the sides of the room.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"It was a sudden thing: I found out last month. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I guess I didn't have the courage you know," he told you, returning to look into your eyes.
You felt like a great selfish urge to ask him to stay.
"And where will you go?"
"Seoul."
There were so many things you wanted to tell him, but your profound admiration and affection for him kept you from acting selfishly.
"It will be a great opportunity for your dream S.coups! I will visit you often, so forget me not!"
From that simple sentence, his whole expression changed; his grimace turned into a big smile, and a few tears fell from his eyes; as if he was waiting for your approval....
Instinctively he hugged and thanked you.
Despite all the years we had spent together, hearing him cry was still new to you - but you took his cry as permission to start crying too.
And on that night, you remember so vividly.
It was on that night that your dreams and destinies parted.
You would have liked to talk more throughout the night, but sleep was stronger than you, and you both collapsed asleep.
You were still embraced; his face was in the crook of your neck, and your scent flooded his nostrils was enough to bring him a peaceful sleep.
Your faces were still adorned with the previous now-dried tears, while a faint melancholy smile decorated your faces.
Your memories of the next day, the official farewell day, the day of a thousand questions answered and planned, for some inexplicable reasons were less vivid.
But his broken voice of that cold winter night was a memory that never faded from your mind.
Tumblr media
The third vivid memory you have of you and your best friend is of an autumn day, the one before you started college.
Since you had drifted apart, many things had happened; good and bad times had alternated, and time had passed.
You made a promise to stay in touch forever, but due to a thousand different duties and circumstances, you both had become increasingly unreachable.
In the beginning, you still kept a diary with all the things you wanted to say to him and meticulously updated it every day.
But even the last bit of paper that held you together had faded away.
Memories with him remained of happy and comfortable times; when you thought about it, your soul was filled with melancholy and nostalgia. Nostalgia is the primal meaning of the word, as it had been for Odysseus in the Odyssey: homelessness.
The memory of home, which had always been associated with S.coups for you, dissipated, and many new ones took the place.
The high school years seemed to have flown past, whereas they appeared forever previously. You finished with honors and were able to attend a prestigious college with many degrees owing to a scholarship.
Fate or not, you ended up in Seoul.
As soon as you read the letter of admission, that location resonated with you with the voice of S.coups. That broken voice on that summer night still resonated with you on an autumn night when you were 19 years old and on your way to Seoul.
Your baggage was packed, and your flight was scheduled to depart the next morning. You'd find your mother at the Seoul airport, who had gone there first to help you with your flat. Your parents had gotten you an apartment near the university as a gift when you were swamped with stuff to study.
Your scholarship covered half the costs, and the other half was split with a roommate, whom your parents had promised you would like.
You slept little that night, your mind racing with everything from the things you'd miss to the experiences you'd have.
Fear and anxiety weighed you down, and soothing music to lull you to sleep didn't seem to help.
Until, late at night, sleep prevails. You awoke after a few hours. You didn't feel tired because adrenaline was racing through your veins, keeping you awake enough to get up and settle before you left.
You wish farewell to your home, your city, and all that had been your life up until that moment at 6 a.m.
The journey passed between a thousand songs, books, drawings, and games. You arrived so late in the afternoon at the airport, where you met your mother, and together decided to take a tour of the city.
You left your baggage in a designated locker and approached her after she showed you the university's offices. Sunset had arrived, and the autumn colors had calmed the atmosphere.
Everything was wonderful on that day, which you remember vividly.
Fortunately, tiredness only set in after you and your mother arrived at your flat. Your conversations during the day had been of all kinds, but particularly at the end, they had focused on your future and the one with whom you would share a room.
You expected to see him at the airport, or at the very least to learn more about him. But, in the end, your mother did not reveal anything to you, and you would only find out who it was in a few minutes.
Following your mother to a very tall building, you promptly took an elevator up to the fourth floor after grabbing your belongings.
You were experiencing a wide range of emotions at the time.
Mostly, you were worried about everything that was waiting for you.
You arrived on the sixth floor and entered room 505 after leaving the elevator. You remember vividly putting the keys into the keyhole - initially wrongly twisting them. You entered the house after succeeding.
The lights were on, and a black coat was already hanging on the coat rack on the left side of the door. You did the same thing, and after putting your shoes away, you noticed that some of them were already there. You took the slippers left for you and passed the others to your mother. You walked down the short hall and reached the small living room.
Not many people know, but the sense most connected to memories is the smell.
A smell, a scent intense or not, pleasant or not, recurring or not, is what most allows a person to bring back a memory.
A scent of fresh sea water invaded your nostrils in that vivid memory. A distinct smell hit you even before you noticed those brown eyes that you most recognized, even before you heard him say "Welcome to Seoul," even before he came to you for a hug, and even before all that you would eat together.
That smell of the ocean brought back your first vivid memory of a summer evening spent laughing on the beach while building a sand castle. Later, all of the other senses were activated, respectively.
In front of you stood Choi Seungcheol, S.coups, your childhood best friend. He had a smile on his face and promptly stood up to greet you in a long hug.
Then he showed you throughout your small apartment, from the hallway to the shared kitchen and bathroom to the separate but adjacent rooms.
You quickly sorted some of your belongings before proceeding to the kitchen. For a moment, you had even thought that you would sleep in the same room - maybe even in the same bed - as it was.
You had then pondered the innocuous thought while the three of you sat in the kitchen reminiscing about the good old days. So much had changed, and your best friend had grown into an objectively attractive guy.
He had grown taller, the effects of years of gymnastics were visible, and the muscles could be seen even when he wasn't shirtless. He had changed his hairstyle, now wearing a not-so-long mullet with two strands of hair hanging over his eyes, and his clothing style had seemed evolved. He had dressed for the occasion in a tight white sweater with a high neck, explaining that he had done so remembering your style preference for him.
Soon your mother was gone, leaving you alone.
On that autumn evening, you could write an entire essay for how many vivid details you remember.
Beginning with the initial moments of embarrassment, promptly eclipsed by S.coups with his usual irony, which you had learned for many years to counter.
To continue with the thousands of questions and answers you both had. Time had passed, yet your memories of each other had crystallized. In difficult times, he admitted to thinking about your friendship, and you confided in him about your nostalgia for what you had.
He had now begun a singing career, although his company could only pay him enough to live in an apartment near the university, where he sometimes attended classes.
He explained how your mother showed up at one of his early fansigns to propose that the two of you move in together, and how for a year you had been oblivious of this plan. You smiled and noticed how years had passed, yet his method of communicating things through gestures and laughing had not changed.
Immediately, he got interested in you as well, asking you many questions and listening attentively to your responses. You recalled the last nighttime conversation you had with S.coups, the one that divided your fates. And that vivid memory returned to him as well.
The temper of fate had you both laughing - the talk that had divided you remembered the one that had brought you together.
Your best friend mentioned how he no longer slept that well from that night, oblivious that you remembered how you fell asleep holding each other with dry tears on your faces.
The hot tea you were sipping turned quickly into beer and chips, and your chats became increasingly hazy as the sleep began to mix with the alcohol.
In no time, your conversations became more and more confusing, and the words became slurred. Without realizing it, you fell asleep - facing each other, with a faint smile on your faces and your eyes closed peacefully.
You awoke in your bed the next morning, only to discover that S.coups had brought you there. You recognized you were wearing pajamas after looking in the mirror.
Your face turned very red.
But after that initial reaction, you realized you were still wearing the clothing from the previous day underneath, so you laughed at the boy's odd action of kindness.
You walked to the kitchen after a short shower and noticed a still-steaming breakfast on the table. With it there was a note with recognizable handwriting warning you that he had gotten up early because his practice began at 7 a.m. and that he had made you your favorite breakfast, hoping that it hadn't changed over the years.
And it hadn't changed, just as your feelings for that boy hadn't.
Or so S.coups thought...but just as milk for breakfast had been replaced by coffee in your tastes, had your feelings of simple friendship been replaced by anything else?
While these thoughts raced through your mind, you prepared for your first day of college. Anxiety was now accompanied by the reassuring consciousness of being near to your best friend, and you entered the structure that would house you for the next five years, charged with energy.
Tumblr media
The fourth vivid memory you have of you and your best friend is during a refreshing spring night when everything changed.
You'd get used to living with S.coups while meeting many new people - from college classmates to everyone in your best friend's group.
A thousand exams were stressing you out, and as the seasons changed, so did your emotions. However, unlike seasons, which must follow an endless cycle that has already been programmed, humans are doomed to an end after traveling the straight stretch that is unpredictable life.
You'd started spending your days and evenings together again. You stayed in your room at first to concentrate, while he stayed in his to avoid disturbing you with music. But before you knew it, you were both in the living room working on your assignments. You'd spend hours studying on the computer or in your books, while S.coups sat on the couch with his headphones on and his eyes closed, imagining the choreography he had learned or humming the choruses of his songs. You'd gone from maximum distance between cities to smallest proximity while sleeping curled on the couch with Studio Ghibli movies playing in the background.
It happened that you would be invited to parties and the two of you together would go without even planning it. And if you were late working for your small job that you had found for yourself, you never had to go home alone - there was always S.coups to drive you home.
You enjoyed long, relaxed drives in the fall and winter, as well as delightful evenings, particularly during the warmer months.
Everyone you knew had doubted your friendship at some point - in fact, everyone was certain that you were having a secret relationship. But every time that topic was posed to you, you denied it, remembering that you had been "best friends from childhood."
Back to the vivid memory from the spring night: the night after your last exams for the school year, the same night S.coups talked to you under the full moon as he had done on that summer night when you were children.
When you checked your phone, it was 6.06 p.m.; you should have been ready for dinner with S.coups in less than half an hour. You'd picked that evening to celebrate the end of your examinations and the start of his first concert tour.
You were in the bathroom getting dressed when you heard S.coups singing from his room. And you were well aware that he only sang out on two occasions, during concerts, or when he was happy. The thought reassured you, and you instinctively smiled at the prospect of going out to dinner with him.
Not that you hadn't done it before, but something felt different this time, perhaps because of your incredible sixth sense.
For the first time, you had no idea where you were going; only he had thought of it, and he had officially asked you to be free that evening because he had something special planned for you. Although he had previously given up after your insistence on the surprise disclosure, he had made no move at that point.
To add to the list of surprises, that time he did not seek your advice on what to wear.
All of this worsened your anxiety, which was tempered by the sound of S.coups's voice in the next room.
You spent the entire afternoon in your wardrobe putting on clothes because you had no idea where you were going. You had tried on every possible clothing, from skirts to dresses to jeans, but in the end, you had chosen one that made you feel comfortable. You would have dared a little more with black shoes and more detailed makeup that enhanced the aspects of your face that you valued the most.
Someone knocked on the bathroom door just as you finished applying your crimson lipstick.
You knew your time in the bathroom was over and chose to finish and go to your room.
S.coups came in as you were leaving. He had the clothing he was going to wear with him, and despite your sneaky glimpse, he pushed you out of the bathroom, mocking your impatience.
As a result, you returned to your room and finished getting ready.
You finished at 6:46 p.m. and waited for him to exit the bathroom.
Meanwhile, you had begun working on your crochet project, because you promised yourself that you would begin as soon as you finished your exam session. You were so busy with counting the stitches that you didn't notice when the hairdryer noise stopped, and S.coups came out of the bathroom.
You only recognized when someone touched your shoulder, and you almost threw what you were holding at him. After looking up and seeing him, you realized that you had not only lost count of the stitches but also more than a few beats.
He was wearing the white turtleneck T-shirt he had put on the first time you had seen each other in years, with a black blazer over it and plain pants of the same color. His hair was carefully put backward with gel, and a trickle of makeup was barely perceptible on his face.
For a moment you felt inadequate, and not dressed enough for how he had put himself.
"C'mon stop looking so good every time, dumbass" until this unexpected comment of his brought you back to reality.
"Look who's talking," you replied.
It was natural for you to exchange compliments, but it was never something too explicit or automatic as on that night.
"Let's go, or we'll be late."
"You're the one who took forever to get ready!"
"Yeah, you aged so much that you looked like a grandmother while working with those wires."
"HEY! Don't make fun of my crochet, I'm slowly learning."
"Croissant- what?"
And that's what you were talking about as you walked toward the car that would take you to the place chosen by S.coups.
You climbed into the car, and the first song that started was BLOSSOM by Enhypen.
Scoups started telling you about how he had met the members of that group and how everyone had been super friendly. But you couldn't focus on what he was saying at the time because he seemed to be the only one who had your attention.
He called out your lack of attention two or three times, but you instantly lied and said you were focused on the song and began humming it. So he didn't question it and began singing along with you.
So you were back in the car together, singing your favorite songs at the top of your lungs.
The first vivid memory came back to you.
" S.coups was so sure he wanted to become a singer [...]
in all his plans, he was never alone - it was always Scoups and Yn."
And that was it, he had become a famous singer, and in his plans, you were really in his future plans too.
You finished singing There is a Light that Never Goes Out by the Smiths just as the car stopped - only later did you find out that S.coups had taken a longer ride to let you finish your songs.
Before you could open the door, he got up and opened it for you
"Oh, what a gentleman," you said to him.
And he responded by bowing his head slightly and chuckling.
The place was not far from where the car had been walking. So you managed to walk for less than five minutes, and by 7:04 p.m. you had arrived.
Outside, two big street lamps illuminated the area, and the entry had a large white windowed door. As soon as you walked in, a waiter approached you, and the sight of S.coups was enough for you to be brought to a reserved table.
From the velvety chairs to the scarlet walls, the inside was all about the red color palette. Everything was surrounded by wide windows, allowing the sunset light to cast a lovely glow on the interior. The smell, on the other hand, was the first thing that struck you and brought back memories of going on family vacations and eating in locations that smelt like home.
That's what the place smelled like, everything you'd left behind when you moved to Seoul from your hometown - it had a reassuring scent of home.
Despite the red, the mood was not too elegant, and numerous people cheered the place with quiet talk.
You had been fascinated for so long that it was S.coups who jolted you awake by encouraging you to sit in the chair he moved for you.
"If you keep being a gentleman, look, I might end up falling for you" you chuckled as you sat down - and that comment had been more spontaneous than ever.
It was only manner, attitude, character, and soul that you had gradually fallen in love with.
"Noted"
"And you're even bringing me to an amazing place! Everything is really beautiful here."
"I know, I know that I have very good taste."
Shortly afterward the menu also came to you, and yours was along with your flower.
Surprised by the gesture, you looked at S.coups questioningly,
"Who knows! The waiter must have a crush on you."
"And how does he know what my favorite flower was?"
"Stalker?"
"Sure, sure.."
You ordered and were quickly served.
You both ended up taking two different things, and swapping them because you liked what he got better and vice versa - it had been that way since you were little.
S.coups told you how well the training was going, and at the same time how tiring they were, and you told him about various things that had happened to you.
You finally had time to talk since you had been particularly busy recently.
You recall standing in silence numerous times, watching how the light of the sunset highlighted his face, to the point where you felt compelled to photograph him to save that memory forever.
As the sun had set, so too had your dinner ended; and of course, it had ended with dessert even though both of you were quite full.
"Come on, I still have to take you somewhere!"
You nodded, and both of you got up to go pay.
He was quicker in handing the card to the cashier, who only commented with a wistful sigh saying: "Oh how beautiful is the young love."
Both of you did not respond, so were you both against that meaning, or did you not want to embarrass the other? Or maybe both?
You would exit and turn away from where the car was. You turned left again and entered what looked like a park. The streetlights that were there slowly diminished until there were no more.
If you had not had him by your side, you would have probably run in fear. But by following him without asking too many questions you could still feel safe.
The moment was silent, and the only noise you could hear was your heels and a slight movement of the leaves. The place had grown darker and darker, and again, the only light illuminating you was that of the full moon.
Unconsciously you attached to his jacket to do not lose him, and then your hand had reached down and entangled with his. You walked for ten minutes when he stopped and asked you to close your eyes.
You, trusting him, did so.
He came beside you and let you cling to his arm again so you would not fall...but you slipped, and you both fell.
You opened your eyes in fright, and before you even realized where you were, you laughed as you realized that both of you were now sitting on the floor.
A collective laughter began as soon as he realized that you had not been seriously hurt.
As soon as you looked into each other's without saying a word you began to laugh heartily, partly because of the funny situation and partly because you both felt the atmosphere lighter.
You were still on the ground, you had not moved, and your bodies were very close.
On that spring night, your laughing filled the silence, and when you opened your watery eyes again - this time from happiness - you heard him say "And here's to you, Seoul."
The last word, which reminded you of the boy's broken voice on a winter night, had now been replaced with a new memory.
It was now forever associated with his cheerful voice and with the time when you were looking down on the city from above.
The lights illuminated it, but your distance still allowed you to see the stars in the sky and the moon that shone most of all.
The more you try to recall that vivid memory, the more you begin to notice how many times your gaze had crossed and how you had been the center of the boy's attention.
But this time you had felt it, and you had taken your dumbfounded gaze off the beautiful sight and set your eyes on him as well.
Proud as he was, he had not taken his gaze off, and so you did the same.
Thus you noticed the moon reflected in his eyes as it illuminated his lips with its pale light.
And, certainly, you were looking at his lips openly by this point - menter his gaze shifted from your mouth to your right eye to your left eye, forming an imaginary triangle.
"It's okay if childhood best friends kiss sometimes, isn't it?"
His sudden sentence had amazed you, for you already looking at him so intensely, so closely had been enough to wake up the butterflies in your stomach.
"Mh, I would say yes."
His eyes first widened in amazement and soon after closed to move closer to you and join your lips.
A kiss full of passion, his hands took your face as you moved closer to him for full contact. It was a kiss the two of you had longed for, and almost 20 years of you were in that moment.
His body and yours were incredibly close, you could feel his heart beating wildly, or maybe it was yours? Or it was both of your hearts quickened by the moment so intense?
As soon as you broke away you timidly rested your head on his right shoulder - by now, you were so close that you were practically laying on his shoulder. You didn't have the boldness - and the breath to speak - so he was the one to say:
"Maybe best friends from childhood do these things sometimes... but can I be your boyfriend to do it whenever I want?"
And that was the fourth vivid memory of you and your best friend during a spring night when everything changed.
But, actually, feelings just revealed themselves to both of you as the seasons of your vivid memories changed.

vulgar displays of affection | raihan
Tumblr media
❥ — PAIRING raihan x gn! reader
❥ — SUMMARY raihan can't help himself from gushing about you (even when he's not supposed to)
Tumblr media
"Raihan! I thought we agreed that your relationship would be kept secret!"
The grating voice of Raihan's manager filled your ears as soon as you entered the office with your boyfriend. He had posted a photo of you both with a heart in the caption the night prior and by the time morning rolled around the photo reached the press. People had speculated your relationship as being more than just friends for months, there wasn't much of a reason to keep it a secret anymore.
"I thought you'd be more responsible than this, quite frankly!" the frown etched onto the woman's face was enough to have you both sat in silence, pretending to look guilty.
Raihan didn't think he'd done anything wrong, why should he have to hide his relationship? So a bunch of 14 year old girls could pretend they were his girlfriend or vehemently ship him with Leon.
"I'm sorry for being irresponsible but I don't want our relationship to be a secret."
There's a second of silence before Raihan speaks again.
"And I think that photo is really cute."
"Well, if that's the case then you need to announce it properly, not in whatever way that was," his manager scoffs, turning her nose up as she watches Raihan pull his phone out.
He goes straight onto his instagram account and starts formulating a new post before turning towards you and holding his phone out, "I want you to pick the photo, but choose one where it's obvious we're dating".
He watches intently as you scroll through his camera roll which consists almost entirely of photos of you, you and him or his pokemon. You couldn't help your lips from tugging into a smile when you spot a candid he'd gotten of you feeding your partner pokemon, who had their eyes closed happily.
When you reach the end of his camera roll, you scroll back up and find a selfie he'd taken while you kissing his cheek, a lazy smile on his face.
"I like this one," you show him the photo and he nods before taking the phone back in his hands.
He examines the photo before nodding and beginning to type out a caption, "do you want to be tagged?"
"Yeah, sure," you shrug, shifting in your seat so you can lean your head against Raihan's shoulder, "I think I look nice in that photo"
"You always look perfect to me," he mumbles, tilting his head to rest his cheek against the crown of your hair, "I'm so lucky."
"That's enough of a display from you two, thanks!" Raihan's manager scoffs before clapping her hands together lightly and looking in your direction, "If you choose to be tagged then you might get an influx of hate messages from fans. I know you've already got a social media presence from... whatever you do, but it still applies."
"That's fine, I get messages from people that hate the fact we're friends so," you shrug without finishing your sentence before returning your attention onto the phone in your boyfriend's hands. He's focused on adding more photos of you both although the next photo he adds is solely of you while on an arcade date, having just won him the largest stuffed toy you could find. In the photo you're holding the bear out to him, motion blur almost obscuring your face as you laugh.
He posts the photos on instagram and within a minute you have new people following you and leaving comments across your account. There's a surprising lack of hate sent to you - a few people in Raihan's comments even jokes about you being totally out of his league.
You leave the office hand in hand and with a weight off your shoulder.

EDIT: Character designs are outdated. Check this post out for their updates looks!
Finally decided to branch out and post my fanseries on places other than discord!
Fuwa Power☆Pretty Cure is my first solo fanseries. The main themes are self-care, loving who you are, and maintaining good habits. Sleep, stars, the moon, clouds, clocks, and wings serve as the primary motifs.
Pictured above are (In order): Series Logo, Maika/Cure Reverie, Kirari/Cure Shine, Kotomi/Cure Lullaby, Sara/Cure Cozy, and the team henshin items. There are five charms because of a 6th ranger who is yet to be introduced.
Mozhizuki Maika / Cure Reverie – Maika is a 13-year old girl starting her first year at Fuwayama Prep. She is somewhat introverted with a passion for anything fantastical or grand. She struggles in school, often getting lost in her daydreams. Despite being very amiable, she has few friends due to her self-isolating tendencies. She wants more than anything to find her place in the world without having to sacrifice her creativity and wonder. After meeting Yumeno, Nighty, and Twyla she becomes Cure Reverie, the Pretty Cure of imagination and dreams. Her theme color is pink.
Hirano Kirari / Cure Shine – Known as ‘Kira-Kirari’ by her growing following, Kirari is a 13-year old first year who spends her free time singing and dancing as a small-time idol. She is hesitant to look at idol agencies because of how much she values creative freedom. Kirari sometimes struggles to separate herself from idol activities, but finds solace in spending time with her friends. Her biggest joy comes from giving anyone who sees her performance a shining light they can always rely on. After meeting Yumeno, Nighty, and Twyla she becomes Cure Shine, the Pretty Cure of guidance and light. Her theme color is yellow.
Asahara Kotomi / Cure Lullaby – Kotomi is a 13-year old who, despite being one of the high ranked first years, is not well known among her peers because of her aloof persona. Behind her air of indifference, though, is a girl who thrives in chaotic situations and cares greatly despite not often showing it. She has a large family with two working parents and 4 younger siblings who she often cares for. Kotomi does her absolute best to provide a good example for her siblings as their loving big sister. After meeting Yumeno, Nighty, and Twyla she becomes Cure Lullaby, the Pretty Cure of care and tenderness. Her theme color is purple.
Nagumo Sara / Cure Cozy – Sara is a 14-year-old second year at Fuwayama Preparatory. She is the president of the Community Club, a group who works to support local businesses and charities the best they can through fundraisers, donation drives, and raising awareness. She is more often than not the voice of reason, but has a hidden mischievous side. When it's time to let loose, she can become the life of the party. Sara is shown to be independent and mature beyond her years despite still having come childlike tendencies. After meeting Yumeno, Nighty, and Twyla she becomes Cure Cozy, the Pretty Cure of comfort and security. Her theme color is green.

The Luckiest Girl in the World (chapter 14)
Summary: When Rosie wakes, the pain tells her that this day will be horrible to endure. She's forgotten that she has a caregiver waiting for her downstairs to ease that pain.
Fourteen Years Old
Two months before my fifteenth birthday, I woke and just knew this would be a shitty day. My period had turned up during the night without any pre-warning. Like a tiger sneaking up on its prey. The pain was like sharp claws digging into my abdomen. I curled around myself before I realised that the evidence probably was visible on my pyjama bottoms and the sheets.
“Fuck!” I exclaimed and slammed the door on my way downstairs to wash myself in the bathroom and soak my clothes and sheets to avoid permanent stains.
My parents had learned to leave me alone on mornings like these, but I could always rely on breakfast being ready for me when I emerged from the bathroom.
Dad probably had to eavesdrop to the sounds I made to time it correctly. Papa, on the other hand, seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to me and Dad and how long it took us to shower, walk from the tube station, do the grocery shopping, or returning from a visit at Nana’s.
If Dad was home, there would be grilled cheese sandwiches and tea. This Monday, Dad had an early shift, so it was Papa who treated me with French toast and my favourite smoothie. He’d also procured a glass of water and paracetamol.
“That bad?” Papa inquired and scanned my face.
It almost brought me to tears this care and thoughtfulness. His low and soft voice did the rest. I didn’t hesitate for a second when he opened his arms but went willingly and clung to him while he stroked my back. We stood in silence before I went to blow my nose.
“Thank you,” I murmured and seated myself at the table.
“Of course, Bee,” Papa said. “Do you need a note for gymnastics?”
“No, it’s fine. We’re going to the gym today. Lifting weights and such. We’re free to do whichever exercises we want, so I’ll just choose those that aren’t too straining and painful,” I told him with a grimace.
For a moment he looked kind of fragile and lost. He didn’t cope very well when one of his Watsons was in pain or ill.
“I’ll be fine, Papa,” I assured him after I’d eaten and swallowed the painkiller.
“I don’t like seeing you like this, my heart,” he whispered.
“I know, Papa. It’s a natural thing though, and I’m lucky to have you and Dad to care for me,” I retorted and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
After I’d put on my yellow Converses, I reminded Papa that I wouldn’t be home until late.
“Babysitting at Pinkerton’s,” I elaborated when he looked puzzled.
“Is that a good idea today, Bee?” Papa asked, his voice concerned.
“Well, these babies have to be paid, you know,” I said and pointed at my shoes.
“Bee! I told you, there’s no rush to pay us back. In fact, let’s say they’re fully paid as of…”
“Sherlock Holmes! A Watson never cheats,” I tutted.
“Watson-Holmes,” he muttered under his breath.
“I heard that,” I laughed, gave him another hug before I ascended the stairs to the front door. The pain from an hour earlier was just a fading memory. For now.

Everything’s Changed | Andrea Medina x Reader
Words: 1.7k Summary: your childhood best friend just disappears, then comes back like nothing happened. Warnings: angst, i think that's it Requested by @liverpoolfan96
The world was still after she left. Well for you at least. Birds didn’t sing as you made the walk to her house, winds didn’t rustle through your pale pink hair or the now dull green leaves of the trees that littered the side of the roads, and there was only a ghost of someone who should’ve been clung to your arm.
The gold necklace that gleams in the sun feels like a noose around your neck, only seeming to grow tighter with every step as you encroach on her parent’s door. You carefully place your foot on the sparsely spread stones that lead you through the decadent garden, similar to how you would when you were a child. The same journey had been made every day for the past 15 years of your life, but there was something that hung in the air that made this one different.
Memories of the girl you’ve found hard to forget, laughing and rushing past you as her parents call for you both to come inside for dinner, flash through your head. 5 years old, 11, 14. You both grow, maturity slowly taking over your rounded cheeks and toothless smiles, but the dynamic never changes; two girls so obviously meant to be in each other’s life.
The memories end abruptly when the door is swung open, and you’re met with someone you don’t expect.
“Andrea-” your lips can’t stop the gasp that tickles your throat as the familiar brunette beams down at you, light reflecting off the identical gold chain that rests against her collar bone.
All other words seem caught in your throat and Andrea doesn’t seem intent on saying anything, so you stumble through the open doorway and into the kitchen where you know you’ll find her parents. They have similar smiles as the girl who now trails behind you. You were never supposed to see her again, why on earth is she here.
“Surprise!” echoes through the house that is suddenly lacking the warmth you associate it with.
“Qué está sucediendo? Por qué has vuelto?” (What is happening? Why is she back?) it feels a little hard to breathe as your eyes dart between the three bodies that surround you, none of them rushing to answer.
“¡Tuvo un tiempo libre y volvió a casa!” (She had some time off and came home!) it’s difficult for you to feel the anger and sadness in the pit of your stomach when the woman who is a second mum to you is so bright with joy.
“Sí!” Andrea finally chimes in, simply to support her mum’s statement, but she says nothing else.
“Ah, well I actually, um… I completely forgot but I won’t be able to uh… to help with your garden this evening. A lot of university work to do… you know.” Her face saddens and you almost tell her that you can cram it all in later tonight, another lie despite yourself, but you don’t.
Turning around to leave after pressing a kiss to her cheek, its embarrassing how quickly you forgot Andrea was looming behind you as you almost run straight into her. An awkward shuffle takes place before you manage to take a step around her and make your way today the door. The wood slots into its frame rather loudly behind you, but is closely followed by a familiar silence that blankets the town, not unlike the one that had taken over your life after Andrea left.
The aforementioned girl stalks closely behind you, barely sliding through the gap before the door to her family’s house closes.
“Y/N! Wait!” she reaches for you, but the pleas are ignored as you make your way down the street, a short walk to your own family’s house, but not short enough.
Andrea jogs to catch up, the exercise not phasing her in any way before she grabs your arm and spins you around.
“Would you just wait a second? Where are you going?”
“Home.” You tug your arm, trying to escape her steel grip.
“I thought you’d be much more excited! You can stay over and we can stay up and talk all night like we used to.” She’s so happy it almost makes you sick.
“Why would I want that Andrea?” the anger comes bubbling back when her face morphs into shock. How does she act like things are normal?
“W- what do you mean?”
“Why would I want to act like everything hasn’t changed? Everything changed when you left and never fucking bothered to tell me. When you blocked my fucking number. When you broke our promise. Everything changed.”
“I did it for a reason! Hear me out!” her voice carries through the empty street, but you continue your walk home.
“I don’t fucking care!” a sharp turn left and you’re pushed up against the brick wall of Señora Estrella García’s house, a lovely cook who would give your dad and you any leftovers she made on the weekends.
“Would you listen to me!?” Anger is present on her face but desperation and sadness float in her eyes.
“If you think this will get me to listen you are severely mistaken. Gilipollas” (shithead). You push against her, something that once was quite effective when the two of you were roughhousing in the streets, but clearly the professional training had given her an advantage as she doesn’t budge.
“No seas estúpida por favor.” (don’t be stupid please) you groan but sit against the wall, clearly not being able to escape any time soon.
Andrea takes a spot in front of you, your knees pressing against each other.
“Óscar, my head coach, he made me promise there would be absolutely no distractions. It was your birthday, when I spent a lot of the day checking my phone to talk to you between workouts and training drills. Coincidentally I was playing really badly that day anyway. Well he pulled me aside at the end of training and told me if I kept it up, they’d have to let me go, that maybe I wasn’t actually a good fit for the team.” Her hands rest on her knees, palms facing up, and you slowly inch your own towards them as she speaks.
“I planned to just ghost for a couple days to get back in the zone. I’d explain it to you and I’d fix my performance then we’d go back to normal. But it seemed he always had something to criticise me on, so I kept extending the time frame. Until like two months passed by and I hadn’t answered any messages from you. I thought maybe even receiving the messages and calls was what was distracting me. So I blocked your number.” Andrea’s voice shakes but seems to relax when your fingertips graze her’s.
“Okay well you then also didn’t come home for a year and a half. Every time you had a break your family went to you instead. And you could have had one of them explain it to me. There is no excusing what you did Dre.” Andrea suddenly looks awfully similar to the girl from your childhood. The furrowed brows and downturn of her lips an exact replica of the face she made when her parents told her off for eating too many lollies before a game.
“I know-”
“And you broke our promise. ‘No matter what happens, where we go, we’ll find our way back to each other, we’ll always keep in touch.’” You can feel the tears welling up and blink furiously to fight them back.
“I know. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” you both lean forward and rest your foreheads against one another.
“I’m home for the summer, I want to make it up to you in any way I can.” You find yourself staring into her eyes in the same fashion you always had. A soft gaze filled with pure love, hard for anyone to ignore.
With one glance at her lips, Andrea lifts her hand and loops a finger around the chain that no longer feels like it may carry you to your death, and pulls your lips to her’s. The kiss isn’t anything special, but you can feel the love that surges between you with every movement of your lips and your own pointer finger similarly wraps around the matching chain around her neck, pulling you impossibly closer to one another.
“I want to have my best friend back.” you murmur against her lips.
~~~~~
Three weeks pass by, and Andrea and you meet at the fountain at the crossroad of your two streets every morning at 10:19am. Your particular streets have always been suspiciously deserted apart for the cars that line the driveways and the rush of people on their way to and from work.
The first hour of your daily meeting is usually spent making out on the lip of the fountain, before Andrea escorts you to whatever she has planned for the day. Most of her ideas revolve around things you loved to do together as kids. Sneaking to the roof top of the corner store to watch over the people below you, playing in the fútbol field before sitting under the giant carob tree and eating random snacks, the arts museum.
“You’re paying!” you laugh as you run past Andrea into your tía’s restaurant.
“Again?” a joking groan escapes her lips as she pulls your chair out for you.
“I mean if you don’t want to make up ignoring me for years then I can pa-”
“No! No no I’ve got it.” A cheeky smile pulls at your lips as her forehead wrinkles in worry.
“I’m only joking bebita.” You lean over the table and peck her lips, taking a hold of her hand.
“Thank you for the past few weeks, I really appreciate it.” She beams down at you as you thank her.
“I’d do anything for you.”
“Like get the paella to share?”
“Ay bebé you know I hate seafood.”
“Is this enough of an incentive?” you lean over the table once again and take a hold of her chin between your thumb and pointer finger, ghosting your lips over her’s before pressing against them firmly.
“Sí.” It’s a breathless agreement after you pull away.
“Te amo. Estoy feliz de que hayas regresado.” (I love you. I’m happy you’re back)
“Me too.” You share a smile, hearts fluttering as you gaze at each other.
Always meant to be.
