Remember when the posters for season 2 dropped and everyone came up with the craziest ideas for why Klaus and Viktor's umbrella emblems were on the wrong side of their uniforms? And the obvious and simple answer was that their photos had simply been mirrored so all sibs would walk in the same direction? This is probably exactly what happened here and people try to find meaning in Klaus (and Lila, for that matter) holding the umbrella with his right hand for absolutely no reason.
oh yes i think i remember that. why not film it the right way though? tua posters are always so fucked up in details and in general (like klaus never wearing things he wears in promo pics; no boa with pink umbrella, no straight hair with guru look, no cowboy had with road trip outfit and s4 ????)

I’m a massive fan of ST but it’s so unfair that Netflix treat other shows, that are not only quality material but also have a large fanbase like shit. There’s so much promo for St but comparing it The Umbrella Academy, Tua gets nothing and before anyone says it’s not as popular, loads of people I know who are casual watchers didn’t even know about the third season until I told them. It’s only the fandom pushing promo and ugh I do not like Netflix on how unfairly they treat their shows!
Sorry for the rant, I know that many of the TUA fans are annoyed at Netflix for pushing St so much and as I am a fan of both I needed to rant 😅
I like ST too! But I obviously prefer TUA and it’s frustrating and sad to see Netflix isn’t treating it with the same energy. From a business standpoint, it doesn’t even make sense. Tua probably has a big budget and they invested a lot of money into it, so why wouldn’t you make sure that as many people see the show as possible by advertising it?
Not to mention, by sandwiching it between both volumes of st the worse case scenario would be that tua is going to be hyped for like…a week. Or even less, because just the countdown alone to volume 2 will probably involve a lot of people talking about it.
Fuck Netflix lmao

I'm?? quite confused?? and a lil mad rn???
ok so we all figured tua was doing a countdown from that Marcus video a couple days ago. They didn't do one yesterday, fine, maybe they're doing every other day. A few minutes ago, they posted a Diego video. nothing wrong with that, I love Diego. But there was not a single clip from s3. All of it was clips from seasons 1 and 2. Why are there no s3 clips??? What kind of promo is this for your third season???

I’ve heard mixed reviews about TUA season 3 now that it’s actually out, so I’m a bit on the fence about watching it. Would love to hear your thoughts/review on it after you finish the season :)
So it's taken a while for me to answer this because I've been watching an episode a day, so I don't know if you've started the show or not. But I'll try and give my thoughts about S3 without spoiling anything major plot wise in case you haven't started watching it.
Things I disliked;
The CGI in some of the scenes is rough and very noticeable in places, however this seems to be an issue with the earlier episodes and there is an improvement in the later ones.
The pacing is a little off in places, I felt that the first half of the show was too slow and the second half was too fast - I would have loved to have seen some of the action spread across more episodes.
Some of the loose ends in the previous seasons weren't addressed or answered in this season, and some of the scenes felt like they were just there for the sake of trying to answer past questions without actually giving it much thought (such as Five and his Commission storyline).
Related the previous two points, I felt like the plot was a little weaker than in S1 and 2, I wish that they'd really made the "foundations" of the season more solid. The best way I can describe it is that it felt more like a first draft.
The Sparrows were criminally underused and felt one-dimensional at times, which is a shame because they were interesting characters with equally interesting powers, and I thought they would have more of a presence given the amount of promo content. And maybe this was just me, but I felt like Alphonso's character was merely there to make fat jokes about.
Again, maybe it's just me but it felt like some of the Umbrellas hardly used their powers. I think it's most noticeable with Five whom in the previous seasons would blink everywhere, whereas he hardly did that this season. I don't know if this was due to the constraints of the special effects budget?
The ending was interesting, I've very torn on it because on one hand I like how everything comes together yet leaves it open for another season, but on the other hand it felt slightly like a rushed afterthought
Things I liked;
The footloose scene, enough said 💃
Having said what I did about the CGI, there are some downright beautiful scenes with wonderful cinematography in the later episodes. I feel like they really tried to do some some atmospheric shots and backdrops and it paid off.
I really enjoyed the relationships between some of the characters in this season. Luther and Viktor have some really great heartfelt scenes, and Lila and Diego make a great duo. Five and Klaus have some nice scenes too which was great because I was hoping for some. But of all of them I really liked the progress of Lila and Five's relationship from S2 to 3, you can really see that they're starting to warm up to each other.
I've seen some criticism about the music choices but I actually really liked it. The songs were softer and more subdued than past seasons which were more upbeat, which I felt really worked with the tone of the season.
Luther's character really shines this season, he's given much more screen-time and I'm glad that they decided to do so, because all of his scenes are very enjoyable to watch. I know a lot of people who were unsure of Luther have changed their minds following S3.
Viktor's and Klaus' character arc was also really good, it's great to see them more confident with both themselves and their powers.
Overall, I got the feeling that S3 was aiming to recreate the vibe that S1 had, but didn't quite manage to get there, there were so many great opportunities for certain scenes to progress and then they fell short. But on the other hand, I do think there were some really enjoyable scenes between the siblings, and it's nice for the show to delve more into the characters and the bonds between them. I also felt like it did answer a lot of questions about Reginald and his motives for the academy, so it's worth watching it to get more understanding regarding that.
TLDR: There are some pacing issues and the plot is rather shaky in places, but it's enjoyable to watch merely for the bonding scenes between the siblings. I think the main thing is to go into S3 without any expectations - I think the fandom has come up with some great ideas so S3 in reality felt a little lacklustre. But despite its shortcomings and the odd scene here and there, I really did enjoy watching it and I will probably rewatch it again. 6.5/10

How do you become of the “big” writers in a fandom like TUA? It doesn’t seem like writing a lot gets me anywhere even if I do enjoy it
Luck. It's dumb luck.
My first advice is to not chase trying to be a "big writer". It genuinely is dumb luck. Focus on enjoying writing, enjoying/building the community around your fics/fandom, and try to not let yourself focus too much on those interaction stats. I know this is hard - we are all so addicted to that rush of dopamine and validation kudos and reblogs and comments give. We are all chasing it, it's part of why we share anything. But if you let that become your focus it sucks all the joy out of writing and then you have to take a break until you can get your head in a healthier spot about it and enjoy it again.
So, that disclaimer said, there are some things I think... help push luck in your favor, things I did to try and push community that translated to engagement. It's also about getting the right eyes on your fic, getting that one person to see and share it that starts a domino effect of more people seeing it (and maybe sharing it).
First is technical stuff. Get good at titles and summaries, summaries especially. You need people to want to click on your fic and to see what its about. I don't think I've talked about summaries before, and I'm not going to do it here outside of saying 1) Yes, I know they suck to write they're the worst and 2) that the goal of a summary is to let the reader know what to expect and to to pique their interest. It's the blurb on the back of the book when you're browsing, it's your shot to get someone to open it and give your story a try. Next, it's good you enjoy the writing process (that is the whole point!) because being technically good also helps keep people reading once they've opened your fic. People will read things they aren't necessarily interested in if it's well-written, and they will bail on things they like if it's too hard to read. But keep in mind that just being good isn't going to make you blow up in a fandom - some of the best fics I've read have had but a handful of kudos and comments on them.
The second is the social stuff. You have to find your crowd, your corner of the fandom, the people who will enjoy your fics. If you write Five but only Klaus stans are seeing your works, you're not going to go very far. Get good at tagging - on AO3 and when promo-ing on Tumblr. DO NOT take this as "put as many tags as possible so more people see it!". That's spam. Everyone hates spam. Don't be that person. Accurately tag your stuff so people know what your fic is. If it's what they want to read, they'll click on it - those are the people you are targeting, not every person in the fandom. Get comfortable self-reblogging posts when you post/update fics. If you're up for it, curate a community responding to comments on fics and encouraging asks on Tumblr (be careful with that and be ready to shut the inbox if people start being fucking weird - your mental health comes first).
After saying all that, my biggest point is to repeat that that "hitting it big" is dumb luck and fandom is fickle. TUA is in a lull between seasons right now and we all know the current struggle of artists and writers getting people to reblog things/interact further than a like/kudo. You're going to burn yourself out and stop having fun if your focus is on finding "fame" within the fandom, especially right now. I think the above stuff helped things take off for me, but I've been building my community for two years now and it was still luck at the end of the day. As you practice your writing skills, add to your library of fics, build your own community, things will get bigger organically.

are you worried about whether netflix' promo tactics for tua vs st4 ??? ppl have been saying that tua is gonna be cancelled after season 3 and i really hope thats not the case. any thoughts??
Here's the thing. Umbrella Academy is one of their most popular shows, but Stranger Things is the most popular show. It's from an era of netflix gone by, where Netflix was the platform with all the new and unique shows. And now Netflix is struggling, so of course they're gonna be promoting ST a lot, it's gonna be a big focus.
And I think TUA got caught in the crossfire, unfortunately.
It absolutely sucks because this is supposed to be their biggest season yet but the promotions feel like peanuts compared to last season. The promotions are actually a pretty normal amount, but we got so much during season two. But TUA s2 was the biggest thing coming out that summer, so they were putting more into like they are eith Stranger Things. And, unlike tua s3, the promos weren't being photographed/filmed during a spike in the pandemic.
I think it's either thinking "oh it'll be fine on it's own" or "oh it'll get people from Stranger Things"
Logically, it wouldn't really make sense for them to pit their own shows, on the same platform, against each other beyond a sorta light hearted way.
All this said, I don't think this will cancel TUA or that Netflix is trying to cancel the show because of TUA, they'll cancel it because Netlfix is struggling. I imagine right now they're waiting to renew just to see the numbers first, which are gonna be fine no matter what. TUA has always had a lot of viewers, getting huge numbers since s1 and then breaking recordings during s2. And if somehow they werent able to get big numebrs again, people are renewing subscriptions for ST, waiting for part 2, they'll likely check out TUA since it's has a new season. And if TUA was ever cancelled? They'll get picked up again, literally no doubt about it. TUA isn't just a Netflix property, Dark Horse and Universal will probably move it to another streaming services, as it's a hit show for them too and I don't think they'll want to lose those millions of viewers.
Honestly thinking about it, cancelling TUA would be detrimental to Netflix. TUA is less expensive than ST yet it's raking in atleast 40 million viewers. If they're cancelling TUA, one of their biggest hits, then Netflix is dead dead.
I don't know. It's all sort of ridiculous and I'm trying not to worry since there isnt tech icslly anything to worry about. I feel like people on this fandom tend to jump the gun on stuff like this. It's nice that people care about that show so deeply, but this isn't the first time people have started worrying when there really isnt anything official to worry about. Again, it has a tons and tons of viewers, ST will more likely help than hurt. And if you're really worried? Keep watching season 3. Have the show on in the background while you do work. That'll atleast help the Neilson numbers. And also remember that no news is good news.
This is supposed to be an exciting time, not a scary one. This isnt the end of TUA, its another beginning. Don't be so worried about the ending that you forget to experience the joy of a new beginning and another season
