#ways that they make wilson make small manageable decisions
Text
I see your ‘house and Wilson are inevitably just very fucked up, the only reason they work so well is that they are both unhinged and it wouldn’t be right to subject anyone else to them’ and raise you ‘they are intimately capable of soft love and I think would be able to give it to each other- quick kisses, smiles etc. however they also need a level of prank and mental enrichment that they can only ever get from each other’

“What kind of crib are we supposed to be looking at?” Jake questioned as Jose walked him through some baby store in the middle of town.
“Well, right now I just want a bassinet. They make some with wheels so I can easily move it, or some that are good to have right next to the bed so I can get to her during the night. Maybe a combo. But either way, I don’t want anythin too bulky.”
“Okay, something sleek and simple, got it,” Jake nodded, trying to act like he fully understood, “What is a bassinet exactly?”
Jose smiled and pulled him towards another aisle, “C’mon, I’ll show you.”
They walked the aisles for a few hours. Jose carefully looked over every option, talking Jake through the pros and cons of each. Jake, who knew she was going over all of this more for her own benefit than his, nodded and asked questions here and there to try and help.
Jose had a hand on her stomach the whole time, smiling softly to herself when she felt the baby move. It seemed so strange to her, in a few short months she would be able to hold the little human that was growing inside of her.
“Have you thought of any names?” Jake’s question came hours later when they were on the way back home.
She had, of course, but not very seriously. When Jose was younger she had a full list on the Notes app in her phone full of baby names she loved. Sometimes she had their meanings and other spellings, other times just the name and where she heard it. She deleted that particular note after the gynecologist appointment that changed her life at seventeen.
“No, not really,” She replied softly, “I feel like its still too soon to be makin concrete decisions like that.”
“Jojo.”
Jose blinked, he hadn’t used that nickname for her since they were little kids. It was like they outgrew it by the time they were in junior high. The sound alone made her chest feel almost funny. They weren’t kids anymore…yet he was still right by her side.
“You’re almost in the third trimester,” He reminded her softly, “It’s about time to start making those big concrete decisions. I’ll even sacrifice my dignity and put on a pair of fuzzy socks and go through that book of names you have with you. We can pig out on chocolate and watch those sappy ass movies you like, if it’ll make it easier.”
They were at a stoplight, Jose could feel his eyes on her. But she only looked forward, trying to sort out all of the thoughts running through her head. She was a week away from the third trimester, and she was told to expect a premature delivery. Her team of doctors were going to do everything they could to delay, but she would probably be put on bed rest for at least the last month of her pregnancy, if she made it that far.
“I think I need to tell my mama,” Her voice was so quiet Jake almost didn’t hear her, “I thought about writin her a letter. That way I don’t have to hear the disappointment, and I can just be done with it. I mean, your mama already knows, and I know she wouldn’t outright go tell anyone since you told her not to…but it’s still such a small town, everyone is bound to find out eventually.”
“You don’t owe that woman shit,” Jake clarified, “She lost all right to be in your life a long time ago.”
She only shrugged, her hands gently rubbing her stomach, “Maybe so, but she was in exactly the same place I am now. I don’t forgive her, and I can’t pretend to understand how she managed to be such a terrible and selfish mother, I really can’t. But, I have to believe that, in her own way, she did the very best she could. And I want to be able to at least tell my daughter, one day if she asks, that I at least tried, for her sake.”
Out of the corner of her eye she could see Jake shake his head, “Josephine Wilson, you are a better person than I could ever be. Because there is no way on God’s green earth I would try anything when it comes to that woman.”
“You’ll understand one day, Jakey,” She smiled softly as she looked down, “The world becomes a completely different place when you have your own child to think about. I haven’t even met her yet, but I know I would do anything for her.”
He reached over to squeeze her shoulder, “ You know, I always knew you would make a great mother. Somehow, even after you found out that kids probably wouldn’t be an option, I still knew you’d have one.”
“Jakey, you need to stop sayin things like that, I’m hormonal and I will cry. You know how much I hate cryin,” Jose laughed, coughing to cover up the tears that still managed to spill.
Hours later, Jose was sitting on Bradley’s couch with her legs in his lap. Occasionally he would gently rub her calf, almost like he didn’t even realize he was doing it. He was sipping on a cold beer as a movie played on the tv across from them. Jose couldn’t help but take note of not only how domestic this felt, but also how right it felt.
Everything seemed calm and almost perfect until Jose jolted and let out a hiss. Bradley nearly jumped, head snapping over to look at her. Her eyes were closed and both hands were pressed firmly into a particular spot on the side of her stomach.
“Are you okay?” Bradley rushed to ask.
“Yeah,” She let out an almost breathy laugh, “Sorry, it’s just," She stopped again and rubbed her stomach, "Yeah, okay I feel you, chill out.”
“Jose, what’s going on?” Bradley was growing increasingly worried.
She slowly opened her eyes. She could feel her cheeks growing red, slightly embarrassed for worrying him, “I’m okay, I promise. She’s just really kicking. I haven’t felt her kick this strong before, just took me by surprise.”
Bradley blinked, lips parting slightly, “She’s- she’s kicking?”
She smiled softly before holding out a hand for him, “Give me your hand.”
“What?”
“Just, give me your hand,” She nearly laughed, “I promise she can’t bite you.”
He rolled his eyes and put his hand in hers. She paused for a minute, feeling her stomach with her free hand before tugging his hand to lead him. She looked down at her stomach, smiling as she put his hand where the kicks seemed to be directed. Truthfully, Jose wasn’t even sure if he could feel them yet, but she swore she felt the little thumps against her hands.
“I don’t fee-” Bradley stopped mid sentence and moved closer, eyes widening a bit, “Oh.”
“Did you feel it?” She couldn’t help but feel excited.
“I-” He shook his head, smiling as the baby kicked again, “That’s amazing.”
“Sometimes I forget that this is real,” She admitted, “Like, I’m in a dream or somethin and I’ll wake up and still be in New York.”
Bradley gently cupped her cheek, “I promise this is real,” His voice was deep and raspy, “Every bit of this.”
“I swear sometimes I’ve made you up,” She whispered, “If I’d known you were waitin for me on the other side of everythin, I would’ve left sooner. I would’ve found a way-”
“Shh,” He leaned forward to kiss her forehead, right where a thick crease was appearing in between her eyebrows, “We both had some things to work out first. But we’re here now.”
She shifted so she was now more on his lap than on the couch. He tucked her head under her chin and held her close. He couldn’t help the way his heart seemed to almost skip a beat when she nuzzled into his chest. He liked that he made her feel safe.
Jose didn’t know how to put it all into words. She didn’t know she could ever have a love like this. Sure, it was still so new, and there was still so much they needed to work out. But he was here, regardless of the fact that she was pregnant with another man’s baby, and recently divorced from that man. He didn’t seem to care about all of the strings and baggage that came with her.
“I like the way it feels when I’m with you,” She admitted softly.
“Yeah,” He agreed, “I like that feeling too. I think I might like it more than flying.”
Slowly she sat up, “You don’t talk about flyin, like ever.”
“I love it, don’t get me wrong. Sometimes I feel like I was born to be in the air,” He told her honestly, “It makes me feel close to my dad, it’s one of the few things that does.”
“I feel like there’s a but,” She stated.
He smiled softly and brushed some hair out of her face, “I like that I don’t have to be any of that with you. All I do all day is talk about maneuvers and how fast and hard we can push our aircraft. There, I’m one of the best of the best, and there is a shit ton of pressure that comes with that title. None of that matters here though, because I’m just Bradley to you.”
She gently stroked jaw, feeling the slightly raised edges of old scars, “I like just Bradley,” She told him honestly, “But I think I could love Bradley Rooster Bradshaw.”
He made a noise, almost like a groan and dropped his forehead to hers, “ Oh honey, I don’t know what I did in this life to deserve someone like you, but I’m grateful for it. I’m grateful for you.”
Warmth spread throughout Jose, she tilted her head so she could gently kiss him. Once, the idea of doing anything with Bradley scared her more than having this baby, but now she wanted to just do life with him. Somehow, she wanted everything with him.
“I haven’t felt this way in a really long time,” She admitted, “I didn’t realize how much I was missing.”
He knew what she meant. For a moment, Bradley even wondered if this was how his parents felt in the early days of their relationship. Somehow, he knew that his parents would approve of the girl that was staring back at him. He wasn’t sure if his heart ever felt this full before.
He kissed her again, one of his hands gently holding the side of her neck while the other was on her back to steady her. For a man who swore he wanted to go through life alone, Bradley was far too content to imagine going through life with Jose.
It almost scared him.
When they pulled apart, there was a look in Jose’s eyes that only served to spur Bradley on. He couldn’t help but smirk a little as he really looked at her, “Do you remember that joke you made when I told you what my call sign was?”
Jose more or less whimpered and dropped her head to his shoulder. She could feel her cheeks turning red. She thought he forgot all about that, since he never mentioned it again. Of course, she blamed it on the hormones, and would gladly tell him that now that he knew she was pregnant. But at the same time, even though she didn’t know him at that point, there was truth to what she said.
“Don’t make fun of me,” She whined, “I told you I turn into a runaway train sometimes.”
Bradley’s laugh shook his whole body, “Honey, I’m not making fun of you. I thought it was funny actually, this sweet shy, southern, little thing making a joke like that. You have no idea how-”
She slid off of him almost too quickly. The movement made her a little dizzy, but she needed to say a few things herself before he got any sort of ideas. His cheeks were flushed, and his eyes were a few shades darker. In another life, she would be climbing right back on top of him. Hell, she wanted to climb back on top of him and never leave.
“I have some…restrictions,” She blurted out.
His brows scrunched together, not quite understanding what she was saying. She looked worried as she chewed on her bottom lip. Maybe a little guilty too, which made no sense to him at all. She had nothing to feel guilty about.
“What do you mean, honey?” He asked her gently, stroking her hair.
“I can’t-I mean it’s not-” She took a deep breath, somehow feeling like a teenager, “I’m on somethin called pelvic rest. It’s to cut down on any potential complications, because I’m already at risk for a whole lot of ‘em.”
He was rubbing her back now. Somehow it made her feel even worse. They were grown adults, yet she felt like a little teenager turning down her prom date at the end of the night. Granted, her prom date was Jake and she ended up pulling him into the bed of his truck with her in the middle of a field. But…she just felt guilty. She felt like she was leading him on.
“I can’t have sex,” She nearly whispered, “I can’t do anythin related to it really. I’m not even allowed long walks. I understand if that isn’t something you can-”
“I’m not an animal,” He replied calmly, “I would never try to pressure you into that anyway, or heaven forbid force you. My mom raised me better than that. While I’m sure sex with you would be amazing, I’m in no hurry. I’d much rather both of you be safe.”
Jose’s heart nearly melted, “I wasn’t trying to insult you…I just…I don’t think I’ve ever really done this before, Bradley. I mean, with Jake we grew up together and it all just kind of happened, it's like we never even thought about any of it. With Michael…I’m not even sure what happened with us now, honestly. I feel like I’m just fumblin around in the dark when I’m with you.”
He smiled sweetly, “Then I guess we’re both flying blind. Because I can promise you that I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. If I haven’t told you before, I’m at your mercy. You call all of the shots here, you get to be in control.”
“Why?” She found herself asking.
“Because you deserve all of it,” He whispered, “Every good thing this world has to offer, you deserve it and then some. I’d give it all to you, if you’d let me.”
She sighed, tipping her head back to his chest again, “How are you okay with all of this?”
He wrapped his arms around her again, but looked at an old picture sitting on the mantle across the room. In the few months since he met Jose, sometimes he swore he could feel his parents guiding him towards her. He even went as far as to talk to Mav about it once or twice.
Bradley always seemed to feel restless before, almost like he just didn’t belong where he was in the world. Yet, with Jose, everything went quiet. Yeah sure, he had no idea what he was doing with her. He really was flying blind when it came to really loving another person, but he sure as hell loved Jose. Even if he knew it would scare you shitless to tell her  that just yet.
He could almost imagine introducing her to his mother. Maybe Jose would have her little daughter in her arms. His mother always loved babies, she made him promise to save the box of his baby things for when he had a family of his own. He knew that his mother would’ve cried when he told her that he gave away his blanket, but they would be good tears. He knew Carole would be proud of him. He wished that he knew for certain that his father would feel the same way, but he seemed pretty sure.
“Because, honey, I feel like I was meant to find you.”

Wow! Don’t be sorry nonnie I’m happy for the attention and distraction from packing ^.^
7. Yes, but they’re all simple, black, and family related. I’m itching to get a number of new ones though.
8. Haha yes, I want a beetle in the crook of my arm so when I open and close my arm, the elytra open revealing the wings beneath. I want a 747 wingtip to wingtip, elbow to pinky. I have a number of finger tattoos I want; bone outline on the back of one hand. I want my entire left leg to be beautiful vibrant flowers, each representing an important person to me. There are so many more tbh but that’s a start.
12. I am married and poly. I’m not actively seeking, but then that’s never been my style. My wife landed in my lap 10 years ago by luck. I tend to deal in extremes so if I’m honest I never dated much at all. Just pined.
13. Biggest turn ons? It’s hard to rank them because they all have different effects but I guess decisiveness, intention, and calmness.
14. Turnoffs? Gah it’s so situational and I never know when something is going to give me the ick. I think willful ignorance is number one. Like if someone sends a message with my pinned word but the message contains unsolicited sexy roleplay, I’m immediately squicked. Like brother (it’s always men in my experience) you read it but did you -read- it? That’s a lame example but yeah ignorance and boundary pressing behavior.
15. Favorite movie. I get so much shit for this all the time but it’s Armageddon. Bruce Willis was in his peak imho in 97 for The Fifth Element and in 98 for Armageddon. It’s a stellar fucking cast- Steve Buscemi, Liv Tyler, Michael Clarke Duncan,Billy Bob Thornton, and there’s also Ben Affleck and Owen Wilson. Yes. I know. It’s a Michael Bay film but I feel like it gets a pass because it’s pre-Transformers. It’s so bad it’s good again, from hysterically bad dialogue to criminally incorrect representations of vacuum physics, all to the fucking tune of Aerosmith. Fun fact - NASA uses (or used) Armageddon for management trainees, tasking them to spot as many errors as possible and so far 168 have been noted. Let’s not forget the bonus dvd features interviewing Ben Affleck who essentially laughs his way through every plot hole for five minutes. Suspend your disbelief of any of it making logical sense in a real world environment and it’s a fantastic film and I will die on this hill to the tune of I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.
16. I’ll love you if you… think of me fondly.
25. My idea of a perfect date? April 25th. It’s not too hot and not too cold. All you need is light jacket. ^.^ But for real? Probably going for tapas and drinks, maybe a show. Then we come back and get comfy because fuck being out too long and we snuggle and talk and let things go where they may.
27. A description of a person I like. She has the most vibrant brown eyes I’ve ever seen. Black as night sometimes but sometimes they are a rich amber or even chocolate with hints of sienna. Her skin is so soft and inviting. Her hands are soft but strong. She’s taller than me which is nice because sometimes I need to feel small. She’s a talented writer and she’s funny and smart but not a know it all. She does know it all though. About everything. She has a thirst for knowledge that rivals no one else I’ve met. Some of it might be useless knowledge but fuck if she doesn’t retain it like she does cables and puns. I like her a lot.
34. What I find attractive in women? The list of what I don’t find attractive in women would be much shorter. I have been obsessed with the female form for as long as I can remember. I was always embarrassed about it but here it’s okay and welcome to openly worship women and I love that for me.
35. What I find attractive in men? I don’t find many men attractive and the ones I do? They don’t have many physical attributes in common. It’s about how they make me feel. I can’t stand a man who yells. I do appreciate some hair and a squishy tummy and big hands though.
36. Where I would like to live? It’s between California and Barcelona right now. California for friends mostly. Barcelona to escape the political fuckery of this hellscape country. I don’t feel like my family is safe here anymore.
Thanks for all the questions! I really need to pack my tech bag and go to bed soon though. My Lyft will be here in 7 hours. 🫣

can we pretty please get a bridgerton daughter one, when on the beginning of the last episode where Kate is unconscious and Anthony is being annoying, like when everyone leaves the room? and maybe he snaps at yn and immediately regrets it?
Most of the Bridgertons sit in the drawing room, all silently doing their own activities. Gregory is sitting in one of the chairs, reading a book, Benedict sitting in a chair across from him and drawing. Colin is on one sofa and reading the paper. Eloise is on the sofa across from him and reading a book with Y/N resting against her, also silently reading the book.
"Are you sending flowers to the Sharmas again?" Hyacinth questions who mother who just sent Mrs. Wilson off with an order of flowers to buy.
"There's nothing worse than rotting flowers when someone is unwell." Violet states, grabbing a cup of tea.
"We're not attending this Featherington ball, are we?" Benedict asks.
"Oh, I do not know. I suppose it is a good thing we were invited. On my walk this morning I was given the cut direct. Twice." Violet states, sitting next to Y/N. "At least Lady Whistledown does not seem to be writing about it."
"She does not seem to be writing at all anymore. Is that not right, El?" Colin asks.
"Eloise, uh, perhaps a stroll with Penelope might help clear your mind." Violet suggests.
"The last thing Penelope needs is to be seen consorting with the likes of me." Eloise states. "The Featheringtons know how bad this is. And you do too. Even if you refuse to admit it."
"No one cared to inform me that we have lost three staff in the last month." Anthony says, walking in. "These are precisely the things I must know about."
"We are not the only ones affected by our ill reputation of late, Anthony." Violet states.
"Colin." Anthony turns his attention to his second brother. "Would you care to inform me about anything?"
"I do not take note of staff changes, brother." Colin says.
"And what about our accounts? You apparently do not seem to take note of them either since I spent the last two days balancing our books, only to discover that you have taken out a rather large sum. Whatever for?"
"If you must know, I was exploring an investment with Lord Featherington." Colin states.
"This is just what makes the difficulties in this household. No one gives any thought as to how it must be managed." Anthony says.
"He is one and twenty, brother." Benedict defends.
"Is no one in this family allowed to make their own decisions?" Eloise asks.
"You, keep to your doodling." Anthony tells his brother before turning to Eloise. "And do not ask me to speak of your activities. I would not know where to begin.
"Papa, would you want to--"
"Y/N, I do not have time for any of your childish activities." Anthony declares, his voice harsher than usual.
Tears almost immediately spring to the young girl's eyes, the rest of the family sharing looks out of shock that Anthony directed his annoyance at Y/N -- something he tries to never do.
Anthony's face drops when he realizes Y/N is about to cry.
"I-- Y/N--" Anthony tries, but the girl runs out of the room. Anthony lets out a small sigh.
"May I be excused?" Eloise asks and Violet nods making the teenager leave.
"I must go too." Colin says, getting up and walking over to Anthony on the way to leave. "But do not worry, brother. I shall send you notice of every step I take today." He says before walking out.
"Yes, doodling awaits, I suppose. Or perhaps a crying niece does." Benedict says, leaving.
"I do have so much to read." Hyacinth says, walking out.
"I have my Latin." Gregory says, following the rest out.
- - -
It is a couple of days later when Anthony finally finds time to speak to Y/N. Kate woke up yesterday and he went to see her earlier, the woman denying his proposal.
The Feathington ball is tonight and none of the family are exactly thrilled to go.
Anthony walks into the drawing room, finding Y/N alone and he gains a small amused smile when he sees her sitting on the sofa upside down and reading a book.
Anthony walks over, standing next to her.
"Is the blood not rushing to your head?" Anthony questions, gaining the girl's attention. Y/N looks up and Anthony observes her red cheeks -- thanks to the blood.
"I feel fine." Y/N insists.
"Sit up before you pass out." Anthony tells her. Y/N lets out a small huff, but does so anyway and her father sits next to her.
"Darling... I want to apologize for the other day. I should not have snapped at you. Or your aunt and uncles. I was worried about Miss Sharma and overloaded with work and I... I took it out on all of you. And for that I am sorry."
"She's awake, is she not?" Y/N asks.
"She is." Anthony nods.
"So is she my new mama?" Y/N asks.
"No. No, she is not. She will be returning to India soon. It's still just me and you for the moment." Anthony says.
"I can live with that." Y/N smiles making Anthony let out a small laugh.
"I must go to the Featherington ball later tonight, but until then... how about you and I do whatever you wish to?" Anthony suggests. "Anything you want."
"Really?" Y/N excitedly asks and Anthony nods. "Can we sit upside down?"
"Anything but that." Anthony says, tapping her nose. Y/N pouts and Anthony smiles. "But I suppose I can carry you upside down." Anthony says, quickly grabbing her and holding her upside down, her feet hanging over his shoulder. He makes sure that her dress doesn't fall as he keeps a strong grip wrapped around her legs so he doesn't drop her.
Y/N starts to giggle, the sound being infectious to Anthony who starts to laugh as well.

Even when you were a child, you were told to stay away from certain parts of the city.
It was probably because your father heard things in the bakery while serving so many dangerous people who happened to rule the city, and even though you didn’t know the reason until you were a teenager, you still knew you were supposed to go straight home from school.
You weren’t supposed to cross certain people.
You just hadn’t thought you would become one of the people who wasn’t supposed to be crossed.
Guilt was eating at you alive and you were sure you wouldn’t have asked Bucky to handle your ex-fiance if you hadn’t drunk that much. Having him basically exiled from the city was the wrong thing to do, not to mention it wasn’t your place to make that decision and you knew that, but on the other hand, he had broken your heart when he cheated on you and after that brutal break up….
You were less logical than you were supposed to be.
You stepped back from the cheesecake you were working on when your alarm went off and you checked the time, then wiped at your forehead and took off the apron. You grabbed the cheesecake plate, then left the kitchen to put it on the display case.
“Hey, you’re leaving?” Josh asked and you nodded.
“I gotta pick Em up from school,” you said, “Call me if you need anything, I’ll try to be back soon.”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s a slow day anyway.”
“You never know!” you called out as you left the bakery to walk to your car.
Surprisingly enough, there was no traffic on the way so when you got to Emma’s school, the students were still in the classrooms. You checked the time on your phone before looking around to find somewhere to sit down but as soon as you spotted a bench, you heard someone speak behind you.
“Who the hell do you think you are?”
You didn’t even have to look over your shoulder to recognize the voice of David’s brother. Back when you were engaged to David, three of you hung out sometimes but after you had broken up, you barely ever saw him.
“Paul,” you said, “Hi—“
“Are you for real?” he cut you off and you tilted your head.
“What are you talking about?”
“You’ve sent—“ he looked around and lowered his voice, “Bucky fucking Barnes after my brother?”
Oh God damn it.
For some reason you had assumed Bucky would’ve sent someone else. Since he was the boss now, doing it himself was below him, but apparently he had other ideas.
By some miracle, you managed to keep your voice stable, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh you don’t?”
“Nope.”
“So what, Barnes just decided to pay him a visit and threaten him?”
You shrugged your shoulders. “I guess so? I don’t control Bucky.”
“Bullshit,” he spat, “Everyone knows there was something between you.”
“No there wasn’t,” you stated, “Unlike your brother and the woman he cheated on me with.”
“So what, you get to exile him from the city?”
You shot him a small smile, “Like I said. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
He eyed you up and down and took a step closer to you, glaring at you.
“Maybe it’s a good thing he left the city,” he said, “That way he won’t get to see his ex becoming a mob boss’ whore—“
“Walk away,” a deep voice spoke from behind you and you looked over your shoulder, your face still burning in anger but as soon as you saw Sam Wilson, you were distracted. Paul looked at him and swallowed thickly, but tried to hold his ground.
“I don’t have an issue with you Mr. Wilson.”
“You’re harassing a woman,” Sam said, looking him dead in the eye, “I’m about to have an issue with you if you don’t walk away right now.”
Paul paused for a moment, then turned around and made his way to his car. You tried to ignore the bitter taste at the back of your throat and managed to smile at him.
“Thanks,” you said, “You didn’t have to do that.”
“He sounds like a jerk.”
You shrugged your shoulders, “He’s just angry. I’d be angry too if I were in his place.”
“Still doesn’t excuse that.”
“No it doesn’t,” you said and stole a look at him, “So what brings you here, Mr Wilson?”
“Sam,” he corrected you. “My sister was busy, I figured I could pick up my nephews.”
“Oh your nephews go to school here?” you asked, “My sister goes here too, who’s their teacher?”
“Mrs. Scott. Your sister’s?”
“Alex—um, Mr. Lewis,” you corrected yourself as the school bell rang and children started getting out of the school building. “So I take it you know why he was so angry?”
“Bucky mentioned something earlier,” he said and you pursed your lips together.
“You’re not going to tell me what Bucky did to make him leave, are you?”
“Nope,” he said “But I can tell you that he kept his promise to you.”
“Hm?”
“You said not to hurt the guy, right?” he asked, “He didn’t.”
You shifted your weight, your mind full of questions you wanted to ask him but then you saw two boys running around the school yard with their friends and they waved at Sam as soon as they saw him. He smiled softly.
“Have a nice day, Y/N,” he said and walked to the boys and your eyes caught the sight of Emma who was making her way to you.
“Hey there, how was it?” you asked, taking her backpack from her and she shrugged her shoulders, following you to the car.
“I have so much homework!” she whined and you ruffled her hair, letting out a laugh.
“Tragedy,” you commented, “Come on, get in the car.”
                                           *
By the closing time, you were more than ready to go home and bury yourself under covers but for some reason you couldn’t just push yourself off of the counter you were currently sitting on by the register, nibbling on a cookie. No matter how much you tried, guilt was still there, sinking your stomach and you kept your eyes on the screen of your phone, your finger hovering over your ex fiance’s name.
You owed him an apology.
Even though he had broken your heart, you had no right to exile him out of the city. Bucky was wrong, he could rule the city but you couldn’t.
The sound of the door opening made you turn your head and as soon as you saw Bucky stepping in, your heart started beating in your throat. He looked around the empty shop, then tilted his head.
“Hey, I thought you’d be home by now.”
“So did I,” you said, turning the phone in your hand before taking a bite of the cookie, “I just had some stuff to think, that’s all.”
Bucky hummed, putting his hands into his pockets as he stepped closer to you, “Everything okay?”
“Yeah,” you lied and reached out to grab another cookie off the batch, “Want one?”
He took a bite of the cookie you were holding out for him and a smile pulled at your lips at the sight of surprise on his face.
“Is it good?”
“It’s—holy shit, what is this?”
“Gingersnap cookie with a twist. Not telling you what the twist is.”
“Why does it taste perfect?” he asked you as he took the cookie from you and you wiggled your brows.
“I tried something new. Turned out good.”
“Turned out amazing,” he corrected you, “I’m telling you Peaches, we need to get this place more branches or something.”
You made a face.
“Contrary to what the great Bucky Barnes seems to believe, not all of us want to rule the world,” you teased him, “Some of us just want peace and quiet. I’m happy with just one shop, I don’t need multiple.”
He held up his hands, gesturing surrender. “As long as I get to eat more of this…” he said and popped the cookie into his mouth, “So are you going to tell me what’s bothering you?”
“Nothing is bothering me.”
“So nothing happened today that’s worth mentioning?” he asked, “Nothing at all?”
You lowered the cookie in your hand. “Let me guess. Sam talked to you.”
“Mmm, he might have mentioned something.”
You rolled your eyes at him before putting the cookie into your mouth and jumping off the counter. “I think I’m going home now.”
“Peaches…”
“Customers out,” you said, snapping your fingers and he followed you outside, watching you as you locked the door.
“Come on,” he said, “I’ll take you home.”
“You don’t have to, I can just—“
“You’re not taking the subway, we’ve been over this.” He led you to the car, pressing a hand on the small of your back and the mere gesture was enough to send a pleasant warmth through your system. His driver started the car and began to drive as soon as you and Bucky got in and you leaned your head back.
“What did you do?” you asked, “To—to convince him to leave the city?”
“It didn’t take much convincing,” Bucky stated, “He seems to be a logical individual.”
You arched a brow, keeping your gaze on him until he shifted in his seat, a look of exaggerated innocence crossing his features.
“I just mentioned what might happen if he didn’t leave the city.”
“Which was…?”
“It’s a big city,” he said, shrugging his shoulders, “Accidents happen every day.”
“Do they?”
“When I want them to.”
You heaved a sigh and leaned back again, shaking your head. He paused for a moment.
“So this guy from today…?”
“Paul. David’s brother,” you said, “It’s fine, really. If I started making everyone who is rude to me leave the city, the population would be down a lot.”
Not to mention I’d have to start with your mother.
“Still not acceptable.”
“I kind of got his brother exiled like we’re in the medieval times,” you reminded him, “Don’t get me wrong, he’s an asshole but…”
“Not an excuse. He can’t call you that.”
A fire swept over your cheeks but you managed to keep silent until the driver pulled over in front of your house and you offered Bucky a small smile.
“Thank you,” you murmured, “I’d invite you upstairs for a cupcake but…”
“Don’t worry about it,” he waved a hand in the air, “I have to take care of a small problem anyway. Get some rest, okay? You look tired.”
You nodded and opened the door, but before you could get out of the car, you turned around to see him better.
“Buck?”
“Hm?”
“Do you think I’m a terrible person?”
His brows furrowed. “What?”
“I mean I must be, right?” you asked, “What Paul said… It was mean but I did make his brother leave the city—“
“Really? Weird, I could swear it was me.”
You shot him a look. “You did that because I asked you to do that. Which I shouldn’t have.”
“I told you last night, no one gets to stay here if you don’t want them.”
“And you don’t see anything wrong with that logic?”
“Nope.”
You heaved a deep sigh, rubbing at your eye. “Sorry, I just—I don’t know why I feel like this.”
“Hey,” he said gently, reaching out to tilt your head up and you felt your stomach do a happy flip, your eyes snapping up to his. “Whatever he said to you, it’s not true. You had nothing to do with it, I made him leave, not you.”
“But I feel responsible….”
“You’re not. Your hands are clean sweetheart. Trust me, I would know.”
“Just—” you murmured, “Do me a favor. Stop me the next time I ask something like that from you.”
“You know I won’t.”
A quiet laughter escaped from your lips and you offered him a small smile.
“Good night Bucky,” you said and got out of the car to walk to your building, your cheeks still burning.
                                           *
After a long night of sleep, you woke up feeling a little bit better. Sure the guilt was there, but you managed to push it to the back of your mind and focus on your work, and towards the lunch time the bakery got busy as usual. You were just putting a newly baked cupcake batch on the display when Jace walked through the door and grinned at you.
“Hi there.”
“Oh my God hi!” you said, “You’re on your break?”
“Mm hm, I figured I could pay a visit and….” He nodded at the cupcakes and you scrunched up your nose.
“I knew you weren’t here to see me,” you said and put a cupcake on the small plate, then filled him a cup of coffee. He leaned on the counter and took a bite.
“You have superpowers.”
“Nah, you’re just easy to please.”
“My ex would disagree.”
You let out a laugh and leaned your chin on your fist while Jace stole a look at the table where Steve was having coffee with Sam.
“Speaking of hot men…”
“Don’t.”
“I could help you serve them coffee or something.”
“Their cups are full, and you’re staying away from them.”
He pouted. “You never let me have any fun. Hypocrite.”
“Hypocrite!?”
“Yeah, you have fun with Barnes!” he said, “They have the same…line of work.”
“I’m not having fun with Bucky—“
“He looks like he wants to have fun with you,” he pointed out. “All night. In multiple positions.”
“Jace!”
“What?” he said. “Just saying. I mean I know for a fact that you haven’t gotten any after the asshole who shall not be named, aka your ex fiancé—“ he gasped, “Oh my God, I almost forgot! Did you hear what happened?”
Your head shot up. “What?”
“So…apparently David came back to the city.”
You shifted your weight and crossed your arms. “Yeah I heard about that.”
“Then he left like the next day or something. No one knows why, but people seem to think there is something shady going on.”
You swallowed thickly. “What does that mean?”
“Well, he probably owed money to wrong people or something,” he said, “Because; listen to this, someone saw him rushing to put his luggage into his car and drive away fast. So, David skips town and the next day—or like, last night….” He drummed his fingers on the counter for the dramatic effect while you just stared at him. “Paul, you remember Paul?”
“Yeah Jace, I remember my ex fiance’s brother,” you said impatiently. “What about him?”
“Well people say someone picked Paul up last night,” he said. “From his home.”
“Who?”
“Black car, tinted windows, no plate.”
Your heart dropped to your stomach and you stared at him.
“…What?”
“Yeah and it gets even weirder. He was gone all night, this morning they found him in the parking lot of a hospital. People say almost all bones in his body were broken. I mean he’s alive but apparently he will have a full body cast for months like in those movies.”
You covered your mouth, trying to wrap your mind around him.
That—
That wasn’t a coincidence. No way.
He had insulted you and Bucky knew about it and—
God damn it, he had even told you last night he had to take care of a small problem.
“So what do you think?” Jace asked, “I say it’s gambling debt and when they couldn’t find David, they took it out on his brother. Looks like you dodged a bullet, can you imagine if you married that guy? I mean who wants a gambling husband anyway?”
It was Bucky. It was definitely Bucky.
Paul had insulted you and ended up in the hospital with all his bones broken, and the only person who would do such a thing was Bucky.
“Based on my gambling theory, who do you think it was? My money is on Stark or Romanoff.”
You let out a breath and pulled your apron off to throw it on the chair, then turned to your cousin by the register.
“I’ll be back,” you said and Jace tilted his head.
“Hello? What’s going on?”
“I….I’ll tell you later, I have to go,” you said and made your way to the exit but before you could get in the car, you heard your name being called. You looked over your shoulder and turned around to see Steve approaching you.
“I couldn’t help but overhear,” he said as if apologizing. “Y/N…”
“It was him, wasn’t it?” you asked, your heart beating in your throat. “Bucky made that happen.”
He stayed silent and you ran a hand over your face.
“I never—“ you stammered, “I never asked him to do that, I would never!”
“You and I both know it doesn’t work like that,” Steve pointed out. “Especially when it comes to you and him.”
Your throat tightened and you gritted your teeth.
“Is he at his office now?”
“Why?”
“Is he?” you asked back and he heaved a sigh, then nodded.
“Yes but Y/N you shouldn’t—it’s dangerous to drive when you’re angry.” he said and you clicked your tongue, then opened your car door.
“Haven’t you heard?” you asked. “Everything is dangerous in this fucking city.”
You got in to slam the door close and started the car and stepped on the accelerator to get on the road that would lead you to Bucky’s office. Your heart was still pacing in your chest and you blinked back the tears, gritting your teeth.
“God damn it Bucky.”

     Ex-wife.
Bucky’s words echoed in your ears as he didn’t dare to look at you.
    His ex-wife was threatening you.
And he didn’t think to mention her? Ever?
“Can I please explain?” Bucky croaked finally, voice sounding broken as you shrugged your shoulders — in a state of shock.
That was all he needed before he recounted his previous relationship with the woman who was now sending you threatening emails.
Married young, too young and too fast and it ended up blowing up in their faces.
Well, clearly she hadn’t gotten over it.
“I thought I lost her,” he explains. “I thought that moving halfway across the country would be enough.”
You finally looked up to meet his eyes, glossy, sad and terrified as you sniffled.
“There’s a reason only Tasha calls me James.”
It broke your heart hearing that, the way his head hung low and he nearly winced at the sound of his own goddamn name.
But you didn’t know who to trust anymore.
Bucky always glossed over how he, Sam, and Nat knew each other — telling you that they were old friends that go back.
    How far back?
You needed to know, but clearly you weren’t about to get answers from him.
“Buck,” he stopped you, taking a step closer as his eyes begged and pleaded you not to finish your sentence.
“I can’t,” he shook his head, “I need some time.”
You couldn’t bring yourself to say those words that would shatter both of your world’s. But you had no idea what the hell you had gotten yourself into and you needed answers.
And you knew exactly who to go to for them.
“I understand,” Bucky sighed. “I’ll stay at Sam’s for some time, okay?”
You could only nod your head, watching him walk past you and into his door.
Then he shut it, something he never did because his door was always open for you. No matter what you needed and no matter what time of day it was.
    It felt...wrong.
But you couldn’t dwell on it, grabbing your keys, phone, and whatever other important things you could think of being you nearly bolted out of the front     door.
You plugged your headphones into your phone, hitting shuffle and descending down into the subway.
The entire ride made you anxious, slowly approaching your stop and you were way out of place in this crowd.
People rushed by you in expensive suits and what you could only guess were the infamous red-soled shoes that were worth close to your monthly rent, if not more.
You cringed, thinking of the man you were about to see in his stupidly tall office building that you had to crane your neck at an uncomfortable angle just     to get a look at.
The elevator could not have taken longer, tapping your foot impatiently as you rode up to what felt like the heavens before the doors opened to revel smooth wooden doors that reach from the ceiling to the floor.
You were so close, before you were stopped.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry, you can’t be here right now.” A man’s voice stopped you, dressed in a security guard uniform and oh, this was so him.
“I know him,” you said, intent on seeing the man probably sitting behind those large doors.
“I’m sorry, I can’t let you do th—”
“It’s okay, Marv. I know her,” his voice came not from behind the doors, but from the long hallway to your left.
The security guard, Marv, nodded his head as he looked at you once more before retreating back to where he was leaning against one of the walls.
“This is a surprise,” you rolled your eyes, “Tony, please. I don’t wanna hear it.”
He walked over to you, embracing you in a hug, “oh c’mon, I’ve missed you, Kid.”
You shook your head, “I haven’t been a kid in years,” you tried to remind him, but it was Tony, he wasn’t going to listen as he just laughed it off and welcomed you into his office.
It was much different from last time, all new furniture and appliances, but nothing lasted more than a year with Tony.
Tony was an old friend, sort of.
He was an old friend of your father’s, something like an uncle, but also like your older brother.
So just one giant pain in your ass.
“So,” Tony sighed. “What trouble did you get into this time, Kid?”
    You told Tony everything.
From being roommates with Bucky to the way he asked you to be his fake girlfriend to Sam’s wedding and all the way to the situation you were in now. Confronted by his ex-wife without any idea of what she was going to do.
Tony had that look on his face. The one where he was going to tell you that you were crazy.
“I don’t know how you manage to get yourself into these situations,” he chuckled, hand clamping over your shoulder as he walked around his desk and typed something into his computer.
“Last name is,” he looked at you. “Barnes.”
He nodded his head, typing away at his computer again before he stopped.
There was a brief moment of silence, Tony hiding behind the computer screen before he stood up and walked back around the desk, “I’m gonna need some time.”
You understood, shaking your head. You were asking Tony to hack into any known database and collect as much data on Bucky as you could. It was wrong, but you just needed to know who you were dealing with.
“Thank you, Tony. I-I really appreciate it.” You weren’t good when it came to...well, the heartfelt side of things but luckily neither was Tony.
“Don’t get sappy on me now, Kid. You know it makes me sick,” he joked playfully, smile on his lips as you stood up to give him a half hug.
“I’ll call you as soon as I know anything.” He promised before you walked out of the too-tall building with far more questions than you came with.
It was a waiting game that you didn’t want to play, but you didn’t have a choice.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It seemed like your relationship with Bucky was doomed from the start.
Friends to lovers rarely, if ever, works out in anyone’s favour.
The fake dating trope you could handle, pushing your feelings aside to help Bucky win a bet didn’t seem like the worst thing in the world. You had a great time, great fucking sex, and a trip out of it.
Then Steve wouldn’t leave the picture. Going as far as coming to the wedding as Natasha’s boyfriend to spite you not realizing that you and Bucky had gotten married.
    Married.
You and Bucky were married. Bonded in a whole other way and now, his ex-wife was out for you and him.
Maybe this was a sign from the universe, a big red fucking flag telling you that it wasn’t worth it and yet...you couldn’t let go.
The apartment felt empty without Bucky, his bedroom left the way it was in the morning with your favourite sweater of his laid out on the covers and a little post-it note on top of it.
You never could really decipher Bucky’s handwriting. It was absolute chicken scratch as you picked it up and managed to make out in case you get cold scribbled onto it.
It was an easy decision to pull it over your head and drown yourself in the scent of Bucky’s cologne as you fiddled with the small gold band you now wore around your neck as a necklace.
You didn’t want anyone other than Bucky. There was no in the world who understood you better. Who knew how to make you laugh when you were having a bad day.
Everything led you right back to Bucky.
So when your phone rang from the other side of the couch, you were secretly hoping it was Bucky.
Instead, Tony’s name flashed and your heart sank into your stomach as you quickly hit answer and held the phone up to your ear.
“You’re not gonna like this, Kid.” Tony’s voice flowed through the speakers as you took a shaky breath in and braced yourself for what Tony was about to tell you.
“He did a damn good job at erasing his history, but you can’t erase all of it,” Tony chuckled as you rolled your eyes, “quit stalling.”
He sighed, “the Howling Commandos was an organization tasked with,” he paused, “tasked with collecting intel and making sure that information never got released to the public.”
This time, it was your turn to fall silent.
“Like, spies?” You asked and Tony hummed, “sort of.”
    “They had spies, agents, hit-men.”
No. You shook your head, no.
“James Buchanan Barnes was their highest ranking hit-man. Him, along with Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanova worked as a team. A spy, agent, hit-man trio.”
You had to shake yourself out of spiralling, what you needed was everything Tony could possible tell you.
“Anything on his ex-wife?” You then asked and heard shuffling on the other line, “not much. Mary Barnes, but I doubt that’s her real name, was part of a training initiative the Howling Commandos were testing.”
You bit your lip, at least you had a name, even if it wasn’t her real name.
“By that point it looks like James—”
    “Bucky. His name is Bucky.”
Tony cleared his throat after a moment’s silence, “Bucky looks like he had disappeared. Blipped off of the face of the Earth. There’s nothing in his file after 2014.”
That makes sense. Bucky was perhaps the most old-fashioned man you knew, only upgrading from his flip-phone just a few years ago. He barely knew how to unlock it, though.
“Sam and Natasha went on to live normal lives, Kid. I’m sure that’s all Bucky wants.” Tony tries to assure you and you laugh, “you sound like my dad.”
He laughed on the other line, “oh gross.”
“Thanks for everything, Tony.” You said, “you know what number to call in case you’re in trouble.”
With that, you both hung up, tossing your phone away from you to digest everything you’d just been told. You knew you had to talk to Bucky, but you didn’t know when.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“So you’re tellin’ me,” Sam was confused. “That this is the same Mary that tried to get you killed?”
Bucky rolled his eyes, taking another swing of his beer as he rounded Sam’s kitchen island.
“That’s the one, you know, the undercover agent working for Strucker.” Bucky scowled at the name.
He was angry, beyond angry at the fact that his past was creeping up on him despite how far he had gone to erase it.
“But why now? Why come after you now?” Sam poses the question that even Bucky doesn’t have an answer to. So he just shrugs his shoulders and finishes off his beer.
    “Unfinished business.”
They stand in silence for a little while longer, listening to the old ticking clock hanging on the wall before Sam takes a step towards Bucky.
“Whatever you need, you know that Tasha and I are here for you, right?” He whispers and Bucky feels the warmth blooming in his chest as he gives him a half-smile.
“Yeah,” he nods his head, “thanks, man.”
Sam knows that Bucky was never really good at the sappy shit, so he doesn’t force it. Instead, he offers him another beer, bottle necks clinking as Bucky’s thoughts race.
    He was worried.
Not about himself, but about you.
And you were worried about Bucky, curling up in his bed as you sighed and tossed and turned. There was no way you’d be able to fall asleep alone tonight. And hugging his pillow just wasn’t enough.
So you grabbed your phone, hitting his name and waiting for the ringing to sound before he picked up — tired and groggy.
“We need to talk.” You didn’t give him a chance to greet you. He sighed on the other line, but hummed in agreement, “tomorrow?”
You hummed in response to his question, the sound of his voice soothing as you played with the sheets of his bed.
“I miss you, Sweets.” Bucky whispered, your breathing hitching at how low and raspy his voice really was.
“I miss you too, Bucky.” You admitted, shifting as you got comfortable on the pile of pillows against your head.
There was a moment of silence before Bucky spoke again.
“You know what ‘m really missin’ right now?” His words sent a shiver down your spine as you shakily inhaled, “what?”
Bucky sighed, reminiscent of how he sighs when he runs his hands all over your body.
“I miss that sweet cunt of yours.” Bucky purrs, you know he’s smirking, possibly even dragging his tongue across his bottom lip as he closes his eyes to imagine you under him.
You’re at a loss for words, feeling your panties grow damp, core aching and you’re going to have to touch yourself soon. But that’s all part of Bucky’s plan, you think.
“Here I am, all alone, with my hand wrapped ‘round my cock,” he whispers, but you can hear him stroking himself.
“And all I can think ‘bout is that way your tight little pussy grips me and milks my fuckin’ dick, baby.” Bucky was always so good with his words, knowing exactly what to say to make you melt.
And it was working, because you were a squirming mess in his bed.
“Well,” you could tell he was smirking by his tone, “what’re ya waitin’ for, Sweets. Go on, touch yourself. I wanna hear you work your clit.”
Your hand flew under your panties, being given the permission only made it sweeter as your fingers came in contact with your soaking folds. The sensitive bundle of nerves needed desperate attention as you slowly circled it.
“Good girl, that’s my girl.” Bucky praised, continuing to work himself.
“God,” he hissed, “can’t wait to have you all to myself again. Bury myself deep, maybe even have you sit on my cock as you beg me to do somethin’.”
You worked yourself a little faster, applying some more pressure as you let out a whine at his words.
“Add two fingers, Sweets. I know how much you love bein’ stretched,” Bucky chuckled deeply, “been thinkin’ of gettin’ you a mould of my fuckin’ dick for when ‘m not home.”
Oh my God. Oh my God that shouldn’t be so fucking hot so why does it make your walls flutter and breathing uneven as you have to stop yourself from actually fucking cumming.
He chuckles again, “yeah, you’d like that, wouldn’t you?”
You can’t verbally respond, too focused on the tight coil in your abdomen that’s ready to snap.
“I know you’re close, can hear it in how fuckin’ desperate you sound,” he pants, “so why don’t you make a mess all over my clean sheets.”
You gasp, how did he know, but you don’t get to dwell on it for much longer than a moment because your orgasm rips through you and leaves you panting Bucky’s name.
Both of your breaths are uneven and ragged through the phone’s speakers, bed springs creaking on Bucky’s side as he hums.
“If only you could see the miss I made for you, Sweets,” you shuddered at his words, closing your eyes to relish in the moment.
“Now get some sleep, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow.” His tone has changed, entirely sweet and caring as you grab the phone to bring him closer to you.
“Okay,” you reply, another lick of silence before you hear Bucky going to end the call but you stop him.
“I love you, Bucky.” You quickly blubber out and it feels good to finally say those words because there’s no more denying how you really feel about him.
    “I love you too, Sweets.”
It’s a bittersweet ending to the phone call, thoughts and emotions running wild as you’re forced to remind yourself that Bucky has a lot of explaining to do.

Notes:
Y/N/N: Your Nickname
Little bit of spoilers for season two of Titans
You are the daughter of Wanda Maximoff
Dick Grayson x-reader
Music bounced off the walls of my bedroom, coming from the speaker on the side of my computer. I sat on the floor with a clean towel spread out in front of me as I applied a light coat of nail polish on my index finger. The slight hum of music put me at ease as I hung out in my room. "Awe, dammit," I muttered as a little bit of the polish slid to the side of my finger. Luckily, the nail polish hadn't smudged the design on my finger. The light music slowly came to an end as I finished up with painting my nails.
I waved my hands around to see if the polish would dry quicker. A pattern of knocking sounded from my bedroom door. "Come in!" I hollered, getting up from the carpeted flooring of my room. My mother - Wanda Maximoff - walked through the door of my room. I looked up at her and smiled in a welcoming manner.
"How's my favorite hero doing?" she asked, walking into my room.
I shrugged my shoulder in response and waved my hand, watching as the small bottle rose from the carpet and back onto my vanity. My mother shook her head in amusement while she sat down on the edge of my bed.
She brought her legs up to her chest, watching me as I cleaned up my room using my abilities. Acquiring these powers, was a lot harder than I had expected; but luckily I had gotten a lot better as the years progressed, to the point where Fury even considered me being apart of the team.
My mother was a little hesitant of me joining the team, but with some convincing from the others - and myself - she was finally in agreeance with the decision. A chime like sound rang from the speaker at the corner of the rooms ceiling.
My mother and I furrowed our brows, our heads turning to the sound. "Debriefing in the control room," Steve's voice echoed throughout my room. My mother looked back at me, motioning for me to follow her.
She grabbed my hand as the two of us made our way over to the control room. Steve sat at the head of the table with Tony by his side, the rest of the team sitting in their normal spots. "As you know, a team of heroes just like us from another reality will be staying at the compound for the next few days," Steve said with crossed arms. Tony reached forward and waved his hand. Eight individual pictures of the teammates popped up on the screen.
"Dick Grayson, Nightwing, leader of the Titans. Kory Anders, Starfire, princess of the planet Tamarin. Jason Todd, Robin, one of Bruce Wayne's sons," Natasha read, "Dawn Granger and Hank Hall, once a superhero duo called Hawk and Dove. Rachel Roth, Raven, the daughter of a demon king forsay. Gar Logan, Beastboy, he has the ability to transform in animals like a lion or snake. Last but not least - my personal favorite - Donna Troy, Wondergirl, she was trained by Wonder Woman herself."
"Each member has special abilities. Like, Rachel for example, she has the ability to absorb emotions, enabling her to feel the feelings of others. Similar to Wanda and Y/N, she has telekinesis. Rachel can levitate off the ground and fly," Bruce stated. He walked back and forth with his glasses in hand. "Pretty badass," I commented, earning a smirk from Natasha.
"And why're they here?" Clint asked with crossed arms, leaning back in his seat. "Slade Wilson," Tony responded. With a whip of his hand, a picture of the Titan's villain appeared on screen. A photo of Slade Wilson popped up at the middle.
The man had a blank expression on his face, something that you wouldn't want to see if you were his victim. "According to Dick Grayson, he's killed multiple people to get his way, similar to what we've dealt with in the passed," Tony continued.
"This man was able to transport himself onto our reality. Dick and his teammates, aren't sure how he did it. All they know is one second he was there and the next second he was gone," Steve added, "The Titans should be here later tomorrow." I couldn't help but blush at the sight of Dick Grayson. His brown eyes were striking the longer I looked at the photo. I shook the feeling away once Tony swiped the screen away.
___________
(Next Day)
The Titans had been here for about two hours and I already loved them. Each of them had their own little personalities. Jason was interesting, he was a little more mysterious than I had imagined. As for the rest of the team, Dick Grayson was just as handsome in person than he was in the photo. Of course, my mother immediately noticed my cheeks grow pink when he introduced herself.
Her and Natasha hadn't stopped teasing me about it. The team and I still hadn't figured out where Slade was, but from further investigation we later learned that he was still in the city. This guy was good at hiding. My mother and I stood in the kitchen, preparing a welcoming meal for the guests.
I leaned over the cutting board and grabbed a carrot. Mother shot me a smile as she poured some spices into the pot. "Can you pass me the pepper?" she asked, her accent coming through slightly.
I nodded and handed her the shaker. My mother thanked me before putting in a little bit of the pepper. "How's the cooking going?" Nat asked, walking into the kitchen. "Great," I replied as I walked over to the table to lay out plates. "Our guests are settling in perfectly. Gar asked if we had any video game's. Of course he found Peter's stash in the living area," Natasha stated.
My mother and I chuckled. "Dinner smells great," Dick complemented, making his presence known as he walked into the eating area.
I looked up from the table, smiling. Dick shot me a smile and stepped over to the counter. "We just thought that you and your friends should feel welcome," I said, joining my mother's side. She turned off the stove and set the pot on the side before grabbing several clean bowls.
Natasha and I helped my mother bring the bowls and steaming pot to the wooden dining table. "My team and I appreciate your hospitality," Dick said, standing at the kitchen table.
"It's our pleasure. I'm just happy that there are finally people my age," I said, "It's hard being apart of a team with oldies." My mother whacked me on the back of the head, Dick snickered at my comment (GIF Above).
I felt my cheeks become a light pink color. Natasha poked my side and poured herself some soup just as the others made their way into the kitchen. "Boy am I starving!" Gar said, wiping his hands.
"Gar, manners," Rachel muttered and nudged his shoulder. Gar shot her a look as the two of them grabbed their individual bowls. I grabbed my bowl and poured my mother's favorite soup into the bowl.
I grabbed a glass of water then made my way over to the patio at the front of the compound. The night breeze brushed up against my arms as I sat down in front of the railing. The silver moon hung loose in the sky, letting out it's shadow.
I let my legs drape over the side of the patio with my dinner plate sitting beside me. "You know you should really be careful by the way you're sitting," someone said from behind me. I glanced over my shoulder and saw Dick Grayson standing in the doorway of the patio.
Dick sat down beside me and put his legs in the same position mine were. The two of us looked out, watching the wind brush against the front lawn.
"So you're Wanda's daughter?" Dick said.
I smirked and rose a hand to reveal blue waves floating above my fingertips. The corner of Dick's mouth raised at the sight of my ocean blue abilities. "Suit's you," he said with a nod of his head. He took a bite of his dinner before setting the bowl beside him.
I smiled and looked back at the moon. "So, how long have you been Nightwing?" I questioned. He glanced at me with a brow raised. "What? I did some of my own research," I said with a shrug of my shoulders.
He chuckled and shook his head in amusement. Our conversation was interrupted by a knock at the frame of the patio door. Dick and I turned around to see Donna Troy - Dick's teammate - standing there with a smirk.
"We're all gonna play a game if you two wanna join," Donna said. "We'll be right there," Dick said. Donna nodded and left the two of us alone. My new friend stood up from the ground and extended a hand.
"Shall we?"
"We shall," I said, setting my hand into his.

To My Heart, He Carries the Key(s)
Steve Rogers x fem!Reader
Word count: 2135 (oop)
Warnings: light drinking (no bad decisions), toothache-inducing fluff, implied smut for .02 seconds
Prompt: Steve / Giving him a lift back to his office after he forgets his keys after a post-mission bar hop - from @syntheticavenger
A/N: Hi, y’all! Here’s my entry for @syntheticavenger’s How It Started - How It’s Going 5K Challenge! This is my first time sharing a fic in seven years, so I’m a little nervous. If I missed any warnings, please let me know! I tried to make the reader as neutral as possible in characteristics, but I do identify as female, so I wanted to be safe and classify this as a female reader. (I also made no mention of height except that Steve is taller than Reader hehe, so I hope taller folks can picture themselves, too.) This was not beta’d because I’m entering at the last minute (typical), so if there’s anything incorrect or that doesn’t make sense, please reach out. :) I hope you enjoy!!!!!
How it started…
Shit.
Your coworker at the local pub called out sick. He was supposed to relieve you at 7:30, leaving you time to freshen up before your date picked you up at 8 PM. It was now 7:55 PM. Your manager wasn’t answering your calls, a sure sign that you should text your date and apologize profusely for canceling at the last minute.
Y/N: Hey, Johnny. So sorry, but I can’t make it tonight. :( My coworker is out sick and no one else can cover. Can we reschedule? 🔥: I was about to text and say I’m running late. All good.
Y/N: Are you busy tomorrow?
When Johnny hadn’t answered you by 9 PM, you weren’t sure how to feel. Your phone lit up with a notification: humantorch81 has added to their story. The little voice in your head told you not to click it, but click it you did. A selfie-style video played, and you watched Johnny take one shot, then a second, then a third… The fourth clip showed him stuffing $100 bills in someone’s cleavage. Douchebag.
Thunderous laughter and applause in the doorway had you closing the app and putting your phone in your back pocket. A group of men came into view. Maybe working tonight wouldn’t be so bad. You recognized one of the men as James (he told you to call him Bucky) Barnes, the former Winter Soldier. He was a regular at the pub, located only a ten-minute drive from the Avengers Compound. Bucky, Sam Wilson, and sometimes Thor frequented the pub, regaling you with tales of both past battles and present gossip. Lucky for you, they also tipped well. You could make out a few more familiar faces, including Tony Stark’s. Okay, they were probably tipping very well tonight.
The door opened once again and you could’ve sworn your heart stopped. In walked Captain America, your childhood crush. Your admiration for him never really subsided. If anything, it was renewed when he was recovered from the ice during your junior year of high school. When you were small, you often would talk about how you were in love with Captain Rogers, making him the subject of your art projects and writing assignments. As you grew up, you saw how silly you’d been and merely appreciated how beautiful and gentlemanly he seemed. Your sanity was well and truly tested, though, the first time you met him, and it turned out he was even more wonderful than you dreamed he’d be. You barely could stand to speak to him, let alone look at him, out of shyness.
Tonight was no different. Seeing Steve standing in front of you with flushed cheeks and tousled hair, you thought your heart might burst or you might start drooling - you weren’t sure which would happen first. Mr. Tall, Blond, and Handsome started making his way towards you, eyes downcast as if he were nervous. Was he nervous? Why would he be nervous to order a drink? From you, of all people?
He finally looked up at you, only to stumble over his own two feet. The blush that had just disappeared returned quickly, tinging his freckled nose and perfect cheeks with the most flattering shade of pink that complemented his sparkling blue eyes. The first time you’d met, he had a full beard. He was clean-shaven now, and although you loved the facial hair on him, his boyish face made him look like a Disney prince. It took everything in you not to swoon.
“Hey, Y/N. Long time, no see.” He let out a short, bashful laugh that made the butterflies in your tummy flutter. He scratched the back of his neck, not quite able to meet your gaze.
“Hi, Captain Rogers!” You judged yourself for sounding so eager to see him. “It’s good to see you. Been a while,” you smiled at him, reaching for a fresh gravity pint glass. “What can I get you? Your usual?” Steve typically started his visits with a pint of Guinness, and then depending on the occasion, he’d order either more of the same or some whiskey.
He began to pull his credit card out of his wallet. “You’re too good to me, doll. And please, can you call me Steve?” He passed his card to you and you put it next to the register. “This may be a long shot, but do you know how to make a Singapore Sling? We’re celebrating after completing a two-month mission tonight, and I’m craving something sweet.” Either you were crazy or Captain Rog- Steve, you corrected yourself - was looking at your lips when he said that.
“Well, Steve,” you said pointedly, “I actually do know how to make one. That’s one of my favorites.”
“No kidding! I hardly order them, but when I do, no one’s even heard of them. I guess my age is showing.” He sat down then, watching you grab the pineapple juice from the refrigerator.
“You don’t look a day over 103, Cap,” you giggled, winking at him. Since when do I giggle?, you thought. Who do I think I am? You managed not to smack your own forehead, though you were sure you’d berate yourself later. “But yeah, my grandmother introduced me to them a few years ago. They were her favorite, and they quickly became mine.” You passed the glass to him, peeking at him from under your lashes as you awaited his reaction.
Steve picked up the glass and raised it to you first before taking a sip. It wasn’t lost on you that his lips apparently were that pink before the bright red liquid ever touched them. “Gosh, this is perfect,” he nearly moaned. For what felt like the millionth time in ten minutes, you felt your face heat up once again. “Thank you so much, Y/N. It’s just like I remember.”
“It’s no trouble at all. I’m glad you like it.” He smiled at you softly, looking like he wanted to say something more. “Go celebrate, Steve. Let me know if you’d like anything else, okay?” You squeezed his hand where it rested on top of the bar. The action felt so natural for some reason, but before he could react, you pulled away, busying yourself with drying glasses.
A few hours and more than a few shots of Asgardian mead later, Steve found himself at the bar with you. He told the others he’d stay behind while you closed up so you wouldn’t be alone. You exchanged stories about your friends and families. You learned that his favorite meal was shepherd’s pie, and that his mom would make it for his birthday every year, even though the tiny apartment would be sweltering hot with the oven on in July. Funnily enough, that was your favorite meal too, both to cook and to eat. You told him you’d love to make it for him sometime, and he said he’d like that very much.
After closing out the register, you turned around to find Steve resting his chin in both of his hands, staring at you with what you only could classify as puppy dog eyes. You’d never noticed how long and dark his lashes were before. You exited from behind the bar, his eyes following you until you stopped beside him. “Ready to go, Cap?”
“Of course, sweetheart.” He grabbed your hand and stood up, wobbling a bit. “I’ll drive you home.”
“Oh, nooo, you won’t. You’re in no condition to drive.” He still held onto your hand and started to lead you to the door. “Besides, I only live ten minutes away from the Compound. It’s practically on my way home. I’d be happy to drive you back.” He hummed in agreement and squeezed your hand, a muted show of thanks as he clearly was growing more tired by the minute.
You walked outside and he continued to hold your hand as you locked up, carrying your purse on his opposite shoulder. Even though you were driving, he insisted on opening your car door for you.
The drive was quiet, but pleasantly so. You found yourself relaxed in his presence, something you never would have believed a few hours ago. As nervous as you felt around him, you couldn’t help but think he felt nervous around you, too, and as you got to know each other tonight, those nerves began to dissipate, allowing you to start falling for Steve, for real this time.
“Y/N?” You glanced over at Steve who you thought had been asleep. In fact, he’d been watching you, memorizing your profile and trying to gather the courage to say what was on his mind.
“Steve?”
“You’re so pretty,” he cooed, reaching to brush your cheek with his thumb. “I mean, you’re more than that. You’re beautiful, you’re smart, you’re- dammit.”
You put the car in park since Steve decided to begin his confession just as you were pulling up to his apartment building. He clearly was having a difficult time, undoubtedly worsened by the otherworldly alcohol in his system. You turned to look at him, reaching for his hand, encouraging him to continue.
He took a deep breath, covering your hand with both of his. “What I’m trying to say is, I think you’re lovely and I’ve liked you for quite some time. Would you maybe wanna go out to dinner sometime?” The way his eyes twinkled as they searched your face told you he’d lasso the moon and pull it down for you if you asked him to.
You leaned forward, cupping his cheek with your other hand, to kiss his forehead. “I’d love that, Steve.” The smile on his face could have melted the very ice that once entrapped him. He gave you a soft kiss on the cheek, and you stayed like that for a moment, enjoying the feel of each other so close.
You exchanged numbers, Steve asking you to text him when you arrived home and you promising you would do just that. He reached into his pocket, but to his surprise, his keys were nowhere to be found. He leaned forward, lightly smacking his head on the dashboard. “I hate to ruin this moment, sweetheart, but I must have left my keys in the office building on the other side of campus. I’ll just walk over, okay? Text me when you’re home?” He moved to open his door.
“Steve, don’t be ridiculous,” you chided with a laugh. “It’ll take 30 seconds to drive you over there.” You grabbed his hand, urging him to stay seated.
The drive was quick, and Steve ran in and out of the office even quicker, keys to his apartment in hand. You drove him back to the apartment building again. “I don’t think I forgot anything else now,” he laughed more to himself than to you. “Thank you so much for everything. Good night, Y/N.” He exited the car and before you lost your nerve, so did you.
“Wait!” You followed after him, and he stopped in his tracks. “I forgot something this time.” You stood on your tiptoes and reached for his face, planting your lips on his. Steve’s eyebrows raised in surprise, but he instantly relaxed into you, putting one hand on the side of your neck and the other on your waist.
How it’s going...
You heard your phone ringing in the kitchen, having left it out there to time when the shepherd’s pie would be done baking. You answered immediately after reading the caller ID. “Hey, honey. Everything okay?”
“Hi, sweetheart. Everything’s all right. I can’t wait to see you. Listen, are you home already?”
“Yeah, I took off today, actually. I made you dinner. Are you calling because you forgot your keys?”
“Yes, actually,” he sighed with relief. “I’m glad to know I didn’t lose them. Tony would have been annoyed with me… again.”
Whenever you saw an opportunity to tease Steve, you took it. “It seems you’re becoming forgetful in your advanced age, Old Man Rogers.”
He hummed, the tone of his voice a shade lower than a moment ago. “That’s real funny, sweetheart. I don’t think you were calling me old last night or even this morning, as a matter of fact. I had no trouble keeping up with you then.”
“Steven Grant! Why, I never,” you replied with your best Southern belle impression. Your face suddenly felt warm to the touch, and it wasn’t because the oven was on.
He barked out a laugh. “Maybe I’ll have to remind you how old I’m not when I get home. I’ll see you in an hour, Mrs. Rogers.”
Any reminder that you were married to this man made your heart sing. “I love you, Steve.”
“I love you more.”

New Captain: Part 1
Steve Rogers x Daughter!reader, Sam Wilson x Teen!reader, Bucky Barnes x Teen!reader
Tumblr media
A/N: I absolutely loved this idea and enjoyed writing it so much! I’m sorry for taking so long to post it but it’s here and it will be two parts
Tumblr media
Months had passed and you thought you would be over it. Everyone did. Your dad left and didn’t take you with him. Then, you had to be by his bedside as he took his last breath. You didn’t want to though. You were so angry with him for choosing his old life over you, his daughter, but you went. It would make him happy in his final moments.
You weren’t sure what was going to happen to you after his death. You had no family anywhere except for Sam and Bucky. You wanted to be with Bucky. You knew him better and he was your dad’s best friend but the government had other plans. Because of the court-mandated therapy and his ex-assassin status, Bucky was deemed unfit to raise you, so you had to live with Sam. You were angry that people who didn’t know the real Bucky, only the things he was forced to do, decided your future.
You liked Sam and it wasn’t him that was the issue and he knew that as well. He knew you would be better with Bucky but neither man could argue about the final decision.
~~~~~
You and your dad had been sharing a small apartment in New York so when the day came, you, Sam, and Bucky cleared it out and packed up your things into Sam’s car. Steve’s stuff was already put away or in museums but you managed to steal a few things. You had his notebook from when he first came out of the ice and his dog tags. The day he went back, he gave them to you to wear and protect. He didn’t want them in a museum. He wanted you to have them and only you. The notebook was something you found in a box that was going to the museum, but you grabbed it, passing it down to Bucky.
~~~~~
Once the last box was packed and in the car, Sam let you say goodbye to the apartment and to Bucky before driving all the way to New Orleans. He knew what this place meant to you and he wasn’t sure when you’d get to see Bucky again.
You made one final lap around the small home before meeting Bucky at the door, “Are you okay?” he asked softly. He could see the tears threatening to spill. You weren’t really the crying type so he knew something was up.
“I don’t know,” you said while shrugging, “I just don’t want to leave.”
“I know,” Bucky said, “But I’m sure Sam can take you here to visit anytime you want.”
“Does that mean I can visit you also?” you asked hopefully.
Bucky sighed and put his hand on your shoulder, “Maybe. I’m not sure if they’ll let me but we can certainly try.”
You reached out and hugged him tight, the tears falling onto his shirt, “I don’t want to go. I want to stay here with you. I have nothing else of him except for here. Bucky please don’t make me go,” you sobbed into him.
“I don’t have a choice Y/n,” he said sadly, “I’m sorry but it’s not my decision,” he placed his hand on your back and started rubbing up and down, hoping to calm you down. He didn’t want you leaving so upset and didn’t want Sam to have to deal with a crying teenager.
“Please,” you said again, “Let me stay. Try. Please.”
“Hey, look at me,” he said, pulling away from the hug and lifting your head up with his hand, “I'll try but I think we both know how it’ll end up.”
“Are you ready?” Sam asked as he walked into the apartment. You could tell he didn’t want to interrupt what was happening, “We have to leave now or we won’t get there before tonight,” he said.
You nodded and hugged Bucky one last time, him returning it. He kissed the side of your head before letting you go and watching you walk out of the apartment for the last time.
~~~~~
Over the next several days, Bucky kept his promise to you and tried to convince everyone to let you stay with him, but it didn’t work.
“They really said that?” Sam asked him over the phone, “What do I tell Y/n?”
“Tell her that I’ll keep trying. I don’t want her to think I gave up on her. It’s bad enough she thinks Steve did,” Bucky replied.
Before Sam could respond, you walked into the small kitchen, “Can I call you back later? She just walked in.”
“Sure. Tell her I say hi,” and with that, Bucky hung up the phone.
“Was that Bucky?” you asked, “Did he say anything about me staying with him?”
“It was and he says hi. He told me to tell you that he’ll keep trying but for now, it’s still a no,” he said, “I’m sorry Y/n.”
“Sure you are,” you grumbled, sitting on the nearby kitchen chair.
Sam sighed. He knew he shouldn’t take your attitude personally but he didn’t like it. He couldn’t imagine how difficult things were for you but he was trying to help. He’d been trying to help for the past few days but you’ve been snapping at him and shutting him out, locking yourself in the spare bedroom you were given.
“Look Y/n, I know things are difficult and I know how close you are to Bucky but I need you to work with me okay? I want to help you but I can’t if you keep going on like this,” Sam said, “Just talk to me about something. Anything.”
You stood up from your chair and slammed it, pushing it into the table, “The only thing that would make me feel better, is if my dad didn’t choose his old life over me, his daughter, the one thing he said made him the luckiest person ever. Can you explain to me Sam, why he left?”
“I can’t tell you why he did what he did but-”
“I don’t want to hear it then,” you snapped, “You don’t know what I’m feeling and you never will,” you stormed out of the kitchen and slammed the door to your room shut.
The ruckus from inside, caught Sarah’s attention and she peeked her head inside from an open door, “Give her more time Sam,” she said.
“I can’t give her more time Sarah. She’s keeping everything in and it’s hurting her,” he replied, “I sit outside her door every night, and I can hear her crying and cursing at Steve for leaving her. I don’t blame her, but I want to help her.”
“Let her come to you then. She’s a teenager and she’s in mourning. She needs time.”
~~~~~
You managed to slip out of the house without gaining anyone’s attention. You snuck out an open window and walked until you couldn’t hear the sound of the water or the voices of Sam’s nephews, who were out playing in the yard. You walked until you reached a small clearing, with trees surrounding you on either side. You found this spot on your first day here and used it as a spot to talk to your dad.
You sat on the ground and sprawled out on your back, looking up at the sky. There were a few clouds floating around, something that reminded you of him. During the blip, one of the things Steve did to take your mind off things was to look at the clouds and find the shapes and make stories about them. He would also throw in stories from his childhood and his times before the war.
“Hey dad, it’s been a few days since we last talked. I’ve been super busy,” you said. It was a lie of course. You had nothing going on except trying to move on. You closed your eyes and kept talking, “I really miss you, especially now. I have nothing else of you anymore. Everything is in a museum. I gave Bucky your notebook. I hope you’re not mad at that. I know you wanted me to have it but I wear your tags every day. I never take them off.
“I wish there was a way for you to convince everyone that Bucky can take care of me like you could. I want to be in New York with him. I think he’s lonely without anyone. I don’t think he’s good at making friends,” you laughed a little at your own joke but it was soon replaced by a somber thought, “I hope he’s okay. He has no one anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate everything Sam has done for both of us but with Bucky is where I want to be. I think all four of us know that but Sam’s being too nice about it. If I were him, I already would’ve smacked me upside the head.”
As if he were right next to you, talking to you face to face, you heard your dad’s voice speak to you, “Y/n, I love you so much and I wish I was there with you right now but this is what is best for you now. You need to accept the help Sam is trying to offer you. He cares about you and I know he has your best interest at heart.”
You sat up right and looked around. Deep down, you hoped he had somehow come back from the dead and be sitting here with you, hugging you and telling you he loves you. Holding your hand if you had a nightmare and wiping your tears when you got tired or frustrated. Whatever that voice in your head was, it was right. Sam had been trying to help and you were pushing him away for no reason.
You stood up from the ground and brushed off your pants, turning in the direction of the house. You walked all the way back and searched the house for Sam. You needed to apologize to him and take his help. You found him and Sarah in Sam’s room, the TV playing. You knocked on the door and took a step, before speaking, the headline on the TV caught your eye and made your jaw drop.

Sarah had invited you and Sam to stay with her for a few days. Sam was excited to spend some time away from the work that was his life as The Falcon. His nephews were ecstatic to have their uncle visit. It’s only been a few weeks since the two of you had been last over, but it felt like forever.
To Sam’s surprise, Sarah had invited Bucky as well to stay for the weekend. She told Sam that she felt terrible that he would be all alone in his apartment while the two of you were here with family. But Sam knew what this was about. Ever since their first encounter when Bucky was over to help with the boat, they had both started to take an interest in one another. Much to Sam’s disapproval, but you managed to keep him in his boots for now.
You told him that even if nothing came out of them flirting together that they had the right to do so regardless. They had the right to enjoy each other’s company and the right to be happy together with one another if that’s what they chose to do.
That night when you arrived, Sarah had prepared an excellent dinner for everyone. The table was filled with love and laughter as the company was easy to enjoy.
The innocent flirting between Bucky and Sarah had you smile just a bit extra. They looked carefree and just happy as they spoke and joked with one another.
“This was very good, Sarah, as always.” Sam complimented his sister on the wonderful cocking as they had finished up every crumb of food.
“Yea, it was delicious,” Bucky added in his flirtatious manner, making Sam unleash a fake cough, the one of many that evening. Which had both you and Sarah roll your eyes at his behavior.
“Thank you. I appreciate that, Bucky.”
“Bucky! You and I are gonna—” You didn’t let Sam finish the sentence. You knew what he was trying to do, separating the two, and you would have none of that. You wanted the two to spend time together without Sam’s prying eyes.
“No,” you took grab of his forearm, which was up in the air, his finger pointed to his partner, “me and Sam are gonna clean up and wash the dishes while the two of you wait in the living room for dessert.”
Sam tried to protest, but you kicked him under the table while you urged James and Sarah to have some privacy together.
Sam’s eyebrows were furrowed together as he dried the plates you handed him. His face showed no other emotions, but you knew what he was thinking and feeling. He was annoyed. Annoyed as he listened to his sister and Bucky laughing and talking with hushed voices in the other room. He got a peek of them sitting much too close for his liking, which had him emit almost like a growl of irritation.
His annoyance started to bother you. So everything in your hands dropped in the sink to turn to him. “Sam, what is going on with you?” You questioned in a hushed tone so the two lovebirds outside in the other space wouldn’t hear.
He followed your move by placing the plate down and turned to lean his weight on the kitchen counter, arms crossed over one another.
“Don’t flirt with my sister. That’s what I told him but hear them now. All cozying up in the living room.” His tone is just as quiet as yours.
You came to stand in front of him, looking up at his stone facial expression. Your hands took hold of his as your thumbs caressed the back of his hands.
“I know you’re protective of your sister, but doesn’t she deserve to be happy? Bucky is a good man. You told me so yourself not long ago. So what’s the problem?”
“I know he’s good in his own way. I just don’t want Sarah or the boys to get hurt.”
“She won’t. Even if this doesn’t turn into anything serious, it’s good for them to take their minds off day-to-day life. To just explore with one another. And the boys? They love Bucky. You know that. They were thrilled to have him over as well.”
His eyes closed for a brief second as air exhaled from him. He knew you were right. Sarah was a grown woman. She could make her own decisions, but he would still always be a protective brother no matter what.
“I hate that you’re right.” He admitted defeat. His forehead met yours for a brief moment before he searched for your lips to lay a kiss on them, which you happily returned. “I know. I’m always right. Now come on. Let’s eat some cheesecake and have some quality time together with our little family.”
The remainder of the evening, Sam felt a little more free and relaxed after the talk with you. He even enjoyed the flirting between his sister and his friend. Sarah looked happy. She deserved to be happy. Even his nephew came to like Bucky even more as he let them explore his vibranium arm with their fingers.
Now Sam was enjoying his time with his small family. Happy and content for having all of you in his life.

10 Times Yuzuru Hanyu Was Inspiring
Yuzuru Hanyu (26 years old) is a Japanese figure skater. He is a two-time Olympic champion, two- time World champion, Four Continent champion, four times Grand Prix Final champion and five times national champion. He is the only male skater that has achieved a grand slam (won all major competitions in both junior and senior circus). In 2018, he won the People's Honor Award given by the Japanese Prime Minister and became the youngest recipient of this award. He also won the award of the most valuable skater at the International Skating Union Awards for the season 2019-2020. Since his debut in the senior circus in 2011-2012 and until now, Yuzuru's performances have always made a great impact on the audience; allowing him to have the biggest fan base ever in the history of figure skating. His fans are not only from Japan but from all around the world; including other skaters and coaches. The reason behind all of this love is that Yuzuru touches the hearts by performing like an artist, hitting every note, being super passionate about what he does and combining a competitive spirit with a sport soul. On top of all of that, he has an ability to inspire people. His road has never been easy. It is full of injuries, surgeries, illnesses, strong competitors, mistakes and losses. However, he always perserves, pushes through his limits, overcomes adversity and rises in an inspiring way.
Here are the ten times Yuzuru Hanyu was an icon of inspiration:
1- Winning his first medal in the World Championship in 2012 despite having an injury and low stamina.
In his debut in the World championship (senior circus) in 2012, Yuzuru (17) sprained his right ankle during the official practice the day before the short program. His foot swelled up but he decided not to withdraw, taking into account all the effort he has made for this competition and all the people who came here for him (coach, mom and officials). He went ahead and competed. He was ranked seventh in the short program, third in the free program and third overall, winning the bronze medal.
Yuzuru commented on that competition in his autobiography book "Aoi Hono ll":
"Because I was injured the day before the short, I felt that even in that kind of situation 'I landed my quad, I did well’. I felt that I had worked really hard by myself. However, my mother told me, "That is wrong.” Getting injured was my own fault, but there were many people who helped and supported me. That is the reason why I could come to this point. Until about 9 o'clock that night, we were talking about this while having dinner, and in the end, I realized that my thinking was wrong."
Yuzuru was about to get full of himself and let arrogance take over him. However, his mother helped him stay grounded. Thus, he was able to face the free program with a humble attitude. He put out a passionate performance that many people still remember until this day and consider as one of their favorites. During that performance, he tried not to put a lot of pressure on the injured foot so he shifted all the pressure on the other one until it got exhausted and gave up on him. As a result, he fell all of a sudden in the middle of the performance, but he managed to get up right away and perform a great jump right after.
In his autobiography book that was mentioned earlier, Yuzuru talked about this fall and said: "Later, when I watched the videos, I saw that the fall did not take up much time. I was standing up again quickly. But to me, it felt like a long time. When I fell, the feeling was like flying mid-air. Like this (he re-enacts the fall in slow motion), 'ahh, I am stumbling~~’ (laughs). After the fall, I was thinking 'what should I do from here’, many thoughts circled around. Thinking that I won’t make it in time for the next axel jump, I shortened the path by going straight instead of curved. I can jump even a 3A+3A (in practice), so I thought I will be alright. (laughs)”.
One of the most exciting moments during the performance is when Yuzuru shouted out aloud before the choreographic sequence. The shout seemed like a great expression of the emotions of his character (Romeo). It made him look like he was totally into character. However, he clarified that it was unintentional. He said: "I felt like I couldn’t breathe, so I thought, for now just let the breath out. (laughs)"
Yuzuru is known to be suffering from asthma and because of it he had a low stamina at the time. However, even after finding out that the shout wasn't done to express the character's emotions, viewers still find it impactful because it is a genuine expression of Yuzuru's fight against his limits.
That night, Yuzuru made a name for himself internationally. He shed tears of happiness after getting his scores and so did his coach. He also got praised by the winner that night who said: "the one shining the most is Yuzuru".
2-  Breaking a World Record and winning gold in his first participation in the winter Olympic Games.
At the age of 19, Yuzuru participated for the first time in the Olympic Games. Young male skaters like him who participate for the first time usually don't dare to dream about winning. The big scale of the competition gets athletes nervous and shaken, even the great and experienced ones of them. Therefore, the young newcomers usually consider their first participation as an experience to have under their belt while preparing for the next Olympic. However, Yuzuru was determind to win. His choreographer at the time, David Wilson, talked about his intense determination in an interview: "he wrote me an email letter that was so touching. He was like please help me do this because I'm ready. I'll do anything. I will die. I'll do anything to be the Olympic Champion. I don't want to wait until 2018. I want it now and I'll do anything. I'm willing to die for it. Anything you tell me, I'll do it but help me."
David Wilson talking about Yuzuru's determination to win the 2014 Olympics
Yuzuru performed a marvelous short program and came out of the rink saying: "I did it!" to which his coach replied: "you certainly did". He broke the world record in his first participation at the Olympics despite his young age. He did get nervous and made mistakes at the free program. However, what he did in the short program was enough to bring him the gold medal and make him achieve his childhood dream.
Yuzuru (11) saying that his dream is to win the Olympics

The moment when Yuzuru finds out he won the  2014 Olympics:
3- Continuing to compete after a pretty bad collusion with another skater during Cup of China 2014:
In 2014, Yuzuru took part in Cup of China, which is one of the events of the Grand Prix Series. Yuzuru was in second place after the short program and during the 6 minuets warm up before the long program he had an accident. He collided with the Chinese skater Han Yan. They were looking at opposite sides and couldn't see each other until it was too late.
Yuzuru talked about the incident in his autobiography book and said: "My stomach hit the ice (when I fell) and so it felt like I received a body blow. My stomach was hurting so much; I could not breathe nor get up. Then, when I tried standing up, my chin was hurting and bleeding. My head was panicking and I didn’t know exactly where all the pain was coming from."
After a few minutes, Yuzuru stood up on his own despite the arrival of medical helpers. He preferred to exit the rink on his own instead of being carried. Backstage, he was examined and given first aid by American doctors.
The Collusion incident at CoC 2014:
In his biography book, Yuzuru gave some details about what happened backstage after the incident:
"I really gave a lot of trouble to the people around me. They told me ‘Don’t compete’. The doctors also said, 'It is not a concussion, so it is possible to skate but we do not recommend it.’Coach Orser also said, 'Now you don’t need to be a hero. You still have more after this, you still can do a lot as a skater.’But 'it has nothing to do with that. I will skate because I want to go to GP Final.’ I think I might have said that to him in Japanese. I wanted to go to the Final somehow. Here, 5th or 4th place is good enough, I can get 1st place in the next competition, so for now I just want to remain connected. If I compete at GPF, I definitely want to have a second consecutive victory. I also want to win the triple crown again (Worlds, GPF, Nationals). I had those kind of thoughts. Now when I look back I think, 'ah I skated well’."
Yuzuru decided to skate his free program and the people around him respected his decision and allowed him to go. He made sure to meet Han Yan before competing again and they exchanged apologies. After that, Yuzuru showed up in the rink with a bandage on his head and a small band on his chin. He skated his free program bravely after making some changes on the layout to adjust to his condition. He fell on five jumps but did full rotations and got grades for that. He also was able to land some jumps in the latter half of the program, which got him extra points. After the performance, his coach Orser was worried about his feelings if he gets a bad score for falling five times so he was preparing him mentally by saying stuff like: "scores don't matter. What matter is what you did out there" but it turned out Orser had nothing to worry about as Yuzuru received a high score. Yuzuru was so surprised and relieved when he saw his score and he burst into tears after holding on for a long time. He won the silver medal in that event.
Yuzuru performing his free program and receiving his score at CoC 2014:
After the competition, American doctors prepared the massage room to do stitches for Yuzuru. He received 7 stitches on his chin with anesthetics and 3 staples on his head without any anesthetics, which was really painful to him! The next day, he traveled to Japan for a medical examination in a trip that he described as hell. The result of the examination was "head contusion (or bruise), chin contusion, abdominal contusion, left thigh contusion and right ankle sprain’.
For ten days, Yuzuru was unable to walk and the recovery took more time than expected. Every time he finds himself able to walk, he would go to the rink, but once he steps his foot into the rink the pain comes back. He thought that he would never be able to skate again, felt so depressed and wanted to quit skating all together. However, his mother told him "how about just giving it a try anyway? If you skate just a little on the ice every day with the intention of rehabilitation, the situation may change for the better" her response surprised him because she never tried to stop him from quitting in the past whenever he said he wanted to quit. With that new attitude of his mother, Yuzuru became optimistic about being able to skate again, and found the willpower to try and even aim to win at the next competition of the Grand Prix Series, which was NHK.
At NHK, Unfortunately, Yuzuru wasn't able to present great performances and once he finished his free program he thought to himself: "ah, the final is gone!" he thought that all his efforts in Cup of China were for nothing, but luckily, the total of his points combined from the two competitions made him the last qualified skater for the final. Thus, he was able to take part in the final, presented great performnces and won the gold medal after all the struggles he went through.
4- Winning at Nationals 2014 despite bleeding and needing a surgery:
After the short program at the Grand Prix Final, Yuzuru felt some kind of pain in his stomach whenever he stretched or pressed on it. He thought that it must be a damage in the muscle tissue but after the free program, he found something that looks like a Ping Pong ball sticking out beneath his navel. It was so painful to the extent that he couldn't sleep on his flight back to Japan. When he landed, he went to the hospital right away and was told that he might have Urachal Remnant Disorder. He was given some antibiotic and sent home because his condition wasn't bad. However, once he returned home, and got into the shower, his navel burst and started bleeding. He went back to the hospital and it was confirmed that he has Urachal Remnant. He needed to undergo a surgery but he couldn't afford to have it any time soon because the Japanese national competition (All Japan) was a few weeks away. He was determined to attend it so he decided to bear with the pain and delay the surgery. Without telling anybody about his problem, he attended his trainings after wrapping himself with gauze to prevent blood from staining his clothes. That didn't work out well and blood still got to his clothes so when it was time for the competition, he was worried that his costume might get stained. To prevent that from happening, he put a strong tape on top of the gauze, which was painful, but did the job. In this condition, Yuzuru took part in the Japanese national competition, and despite a few mistakes in both of his programs, his endurance of pain didn't go in vain, and he actually won.
Yuzuru commented about this situation in his book by saying: "It was painful to bend forward and backward, but I tried to do whatever I could in that situation. I even did the Ina bauer, but I could not arch back at all. In fact, I also intended to do the biellmann spin! However, when I started the spin, I changed it into an A-line"
Yuzuru performing his free program and putting his hand on his stomach while leaving the ice during All Japan 2014:
5-  Rising from fifth place to first in the World Championships 2017:
At the World Championship in 2017, Yuzuru made some mistakes in the short program that left him sitting in fifth place behind his rivals. The gap between him and the first place was around 11 points. He was so disappointed in himself but didn't give up. He wanted to go practice harder. However, his coaches stopped him from overworking himself and made sure that he takes a good rest and goes through a normal practice. After that, he collected himself, focused, stayed calm and presented one of the greatest performances ever. It was flawless and magnificent. His coach Brian Orser said that he felt privileged to have witnessed this performance. Yuzuru got a very high score that made him scream and left him on the verge of shedding happy tears. His coach Brian Orser was speechless while his other coach Tracy Wilson had her mouth wide open in astonishment. With that, Yuzuru was able to rise from fifth place to first and win the championship.

6- Winning the second Olympic title right after being away from the ice for 3 months due to a severe injury:
Before the beginning of the Olympic season, Yuzuru was done with his preparation very early and was all ready to compete. His coach Brian Orser couldn't believe how smoothly things were going and felt a little uneasy about the fact that Yuzuru was ready very early. His worry wasn't pointless because soon enough Yuzuru sustained a severe injury. It happened during the official practice before NHK. Yuzuru was practicing (4Lutz) which was a new jump he has been practicing that season. He landed the jump in a wrong way causing ligament damage to his right ankle. The injury forced him out of competition for the rest of the season.
Yuzuru's fall and injury at NHK 2017:
Yuzuru disappeared and was away from the ice for three months. During that time, he didn't make any T.V appearances or interviews. Thus, nobody knew anything about him and his condition. His participation in the Olympics and the mere ability to perform again became uncertain. A lot of people doubted he would be able to comeback. However, he showed up at Incheon Airport in South Korea surrounded by guards and declared that he was ready to compete and that he believes he has the potential to win more than any other skater. After that, he avoided talking to the press until the end of the competition.
Yuzuru's arrival at Incheon Airport to participate at the 2018 Olympics:
According to his coach, Brian Orser, Yuzuru returned to the ice only six weeks before the Olympics and had to relearn everything and take baby steps to be able to perform again. He was practicing strokes, single and double jumps while watching his training mate and rival, Javier Fernandez, do a full run through of his programs with triples and quads. Yuzuru was able to land triples only three weeks before the Olympics and started landing quads just two weeks before the Olympics.
During the official open practice before the competition, Yuzuru made sure not to reveal his abilities and current condition nor his planned layout. He simply did some strokes and single jumps then left the rink. He chose his layout after studying his rivals and calculating how many points he would potentially need to win. He did his calculations on an app that he developed as part of his studies at the university.
In the short program segment, Yuzuru put out a great performance that was so close to the world record (which he holds). He won first place at this segment. Seeing the results, he felt relieved and assured so he allowed himself to reduce the difficulty of his free program. He was one-step away from winning the Olympics again. He needed to put out another great performance during the free program, and fortunately, that's exactly what he did. He performed a memorable free program filled with emotions, and once he finished, he screamed: "I won. I won!" which was true! He became the first skater to win the Olympics consecutively in 66 years.

7- Receiving the gold medal on crutches during Rostelecom Cup 2018:
After winning the Olympics, Yuzuru decided to pay tribute to his role models in figure skating; the Russian legend Evgeny Plushenko and the American Johnny Weir. He chose one of Plushenko's programs as his free program and one of Weir's as his short. He adapted the programs to his own style but still kept some touches from the original ones. Since it was a tribute, he decided to perform his free program in the hometown of his Russian idol and in front of his people. That is why he chose to participate in Rostelecom Cup, which is one of the events of the Grand Prix Series, and is held in Russia. He performed a great short program and everything was going well until he injured his right foot again during the practice before the free program. He was advised to withdraw. However, he absolutely wanted to perform his tribute to the Russian legend, Plushenko, in Russia. He has prepared a lot for this performance and came all the way to Russia to do it so he didn't want all of that to be pointless. He decided to take strong painkillers and perform his free program. He lowered the difficulty of the program and then presented a great performance in front of the Russian crowd that brought him the gold medal. After the performance, he started moving on crutches and admitted that without the painkillers, he wouldn't have been able to skate. He received the gold medal that night on crutches with fans cheering for him and holding up signs that says: "Yuzu we love you from all over the world".

8- Conquering his fears during the season of 2019-2020:
Yuzuru has suffered from a lot of injuries throughout his career. More than once, he thought that he is facing the end of his career because of an injury. Therefore, his main goal during the season of 2019-2020 was to finish the season without injuries. He finished his first two competitions safely and arrived at Japan to participate in NHK, which was his second Grand Prix assignment. Many of his injuries happened in his second GP event and he was conscious about this fact. He was afraid of getting hurt again and was visibly shaking before the beginning of his free program. As a result of his nervousness he missed a combination. However, he pulled himself together and improvised a new combination to recover the points he missed. He thought of the new combination, calculated its points and made sure that it's not repeated all while performing amazingly. Once he came out of the rink, his coach Ghislain gave him a hug and said: "You know what? You conquered your fear!".
Yuzuru shaking before performing his free program at NHK 2019 + full performance:
Yuzuru continued to overcome his fears in the final of the Grand Prix. He was setting in second place after the short program and the gap of points between him and his rival was big. He felt that winning may not be possible this time; nonetheless, he still wanted to do his best and give a respectable performance. He decided to raise the number of quad jumps in his program to five for the first time ever in his career. In addition, he declared that he will bring back the quad Lutz, which is the jump that caused his injury before the 2018 Olympics. It's a jump that he never dared to perform again in competitions since that incident. However, he overcame his fear and performed a flawless quad Lutz during the free program with four other quad jumps in the GPF, challenging not only his fear, but also his stamina that has always been an obstacle for him. He did not win the gold medal, but won his own fight against his fears and limits as well as the hearts and respect of the audience.

9- Winning the bronze medal in the World Championship 2021 despite an asthma attack and many other hurdles.
During the 2020-2021 season, the whole world was going through struggles because of Corona Virus and Yuzuru was no exception. He had to train on his own in Japan all year long away from his coaches and physical therapist in Canada. He prepared new programs for the season with his choreographers by receiving videos and training accordingly without any supervision. During the season, his hometown was struck by an earthquake twice. The last struck happened right before he traveled to Stockholm to participate in the WC. According to him, the inside of his home was a mess and he couldn't use the train to go to Tokyo and board the plane as planned. As a result, he arrived to Stockholm one day later than planned, thus, he had to change his training plans as well. However, his coach Brian Oreser said that Yuzuru is not the type of athlete who gets phased by such problems and he was right. Yuzuru did perfect run through of his programs during his official practices. He also performed his lively short program very well and won the small gold medal of the segment.
Yuzuru performing his short program at WC 2021:
Yuzuru was all set to win the World Championship for the third time, but something unexpected happened before the free program. He was supposed to start warming up one hour prior the turn of his group (the last group), but he was nowhere to be seen at the venue until it was almost time for the last group to compete. His coach Brian Orser said that he was worried and didn't know where Yuzuru was. He asked the head of the Japanese team but they simply told him: "He is somewhere else". Brian kept on going back and forth between the rink where two of his students were competing and the warm up area where Yuzuru was supposed to be, but Yuzuru did not show up. After Brian's students finished their turn, it was almost time for Yuzuru's group so Brian went to the locker room to see if Yuzuru was there. Usually, Yuzuru would put his skating boots in the locker room before the six-minuets warm up of his group and Brian would come to carry his tissue box, and then they would head to the rink together. However, Brian didn't find Yuzuru in the locker room. Yuzuru was caught on camera sitting on a chair at the warm up area, resting his head on the wall and looking exhausted while taking off his mask impatiently. At that time, the announcement of Keegan Messing's score from the group before the last one, could be heard in the background.
Yuzuru at the warm up area before skating his free program at the WC 2021:
When Brian finally found Yuzuru at the warm up area, he said that he knew something must have happened to him but he didn't ask him about it. Instead, he tried to encourage him by saying energetically: "Let's go!"
Yuzuru showed up at the rink without styling his hair unlike the norm. He made a lot of mistakes in the first part of his free program as if he was not the same person who did a perfect run through one day ago. He said that he suddenly couldn't find his balance but he did try his best. He explained that with every mistake, he tried to at least not fall. Later on, the Russian media reported that the Russian doctor who was accompanying their team at the competition said that Yuzuru has had an asthma attack right before coming to the venue and has asked for his help. Yuzuru never talked to the media about what happened before the free program and why he was late. When he was asked about his asthma he only admitted to feeling a little asthmatic after the free program. Despite all of that, Yuzuru managed to win the bronze medal and contribute in securing three spots to team Japan at the Olympics.
The mystery of what happened to Yuzuru before the free program would have stayed unsolved if it wasn't for the Russian doctor. The reason is that Yuzuru doesn't like to make excuses for himself. He once said in an old interview that he used to make a lot of excuses for himself when he was young but then he realized that real strong skaters don't do that and that he wouldn't learn anything if he keeps on making excuses. He took the renowned Japanese skater Mao Asada as an example when she competed with a bone fracture without uttering a word about it. That must be the reason why he never takes his asthma as an excuse or talks about it.
10- Achieving his childhood dreams one by one:
Since ever Yuzuru was young he declared that he wants to be the Olympic champion and he wants to land a quad Axel. He went on to achieve his Olympic dream in 2014; making history by being the first Japanese male skater to win an Olympic gold medal ever. However, he said that it’s not over yet because the plan in his head is to win the Olympics twice. He kept on improving himself and walking towards his dream while making a lot of sacrifices and overcoming injuries. At the end, he achieved his dream and made history once again by being the first skater in 66 years to win the gold medal at the Olympics consecutively. He then made a statement saying that he feels happy and that this happiness is what he gets in return to the sacrifices he made. After that, he said that he feels freed from the pressure of having to produce results. Thus, he announced that he is going to skate for himself from then on. It was time for him to start focusing on the other dream of his childhood which was the quad Axel. He made it clear that landing it in a competition is his next goal and didn’t allow himself to get swayed by what others are doing or what competitions he is losing. He stayed focused on his goal and is reported to be getting closer to achieving it.

If you’ll have me
Bucky x insecure!reader
Summary: my entry to “The Other Punk’s 500 Writing Challenge” by the lovely @buckys-other-punk I chose the prompt: “I want you to remember: you deserve this”
The reader moves to the avengers compound, she soon learns how easy it is to fall for a certain supersoldier and how easy it is to give into the lies your brain tells you, and how hard it is to see your own worth in a building full of superheroes.
Warning: panic attacks, self-image issues, anxiety, bad writing, fluff of course, all the themes from the 2012 avengers mindset, endgame!steve is non-existent and everyone is alive bc wow I changed the timeline!
Word count: 4,677
A/N: this prompt could have gone in a spideypool comic kinda way- sarcastic and witty and funny; Or in the direction that I took, I’m at a rough spot so I decided to write the kind of fic that I could use right now. This is the first time I’m sharing my writing, to anyone. So hopefully my nerves won’t be the death of me.
A/N 2: so, I planned this to be around 2k but it got out of hand and the characters did whatever they wanted, I had no control and so the plot is different than what I originally thought.
You can’t say no to Tony Stark, you learned that very early on in your friendship. It was absolutely impossible. So when he out of the blue showed up at your apartment at 2am with a request to move out of your house and into the Avengers compound… you knew there was no way out.
Unlike your best friend, you were more introverted, the thought of moving into a big compound full of superheroes and gods was scary for a civilian. But tony needed you, and you are nothing if not loyal to him.
Ever since the fight between tony and Steve, he told you how lonely he felt in the big tower, after they made peace and settled back into the tower- even though they talked it out and were understanding, tony wanted you around.
“It’s to ease the tension, you are easy to get along with, they will all love you. And you got me to talk about my emotions so maybe you could help them. A little normal in our chaotic life, it’s purely logical.” He said to you, but you could read him better than that. Yes, his argument was logical, but he just wanted a friend.
So of course, you agreed. Working for Pepper was so much better than your old stupid job, she was an angel compared to your mean boss. So a month later you moved into the compound and settled in with Pepper on your new job as her assistant.
When you first met the infamous Winter Soldier he was back from a visit to Wakanda just a few days after you moved in. You noticed his left arm was different from what you’ve seen on the news- it was now black and a little golden, no red star in sight.
He was laughing with The Falcon and ran his fingers through his short hair when tony walked with you into the common room his arm around your shoulder as you walked towards the two avengers. Tony told you everything, so you knew about their past and while he told you how they both decided to move on from that you where still a little nervous.
“Y/N meet: Birdie and Spiky.” Tony gestured forward as he took you to meet the two avengers “Guys, this is the incredible Y/N.”
“I’m Sam, pleasure to meet you.” He nodded to you and shook your hand “this is Spiky.”
“Spiky? Really Tony, you could do better than that, my hair is not that spiky.” He shook his head but you could hear the amusement in his voice. That was a good sign you thought, but that was before he looked at you and you saw his eyes, the blue piercing through your soul. “I’m Bucky.”
“Y/N” you raised your left hand to shake his, you could see a slight tension forming in his eyes as he raised his vibranium hand to meet yours, eyes studying you. You smiled at him.
He flashed you a smile that made your heart skip a bit. This is definitely going to be a problem.
“Are you a new recruit?” Sam had asked you then.
“Oh no, I’m just a friend.” You looked at tony with a smirk “apparently this guy can’t function without me so I decided to move here, for the sake of saving the world from the worst cook ever.”
“It was one time Y/N! I did not mean to blow up your microwave.” Tony looked betrayed as he looked at you.
“I present to you one of the world’s greatest mechanics ladies and gentlemen!” you waved your hands towards Tony. You could see the amusement in his eyes, giving in his failed look of annoyance.
“I already regret my decision,” he groaned and rolled his eyes at you. “I hate you.”
“No you don’t.”
“Well, it was very nice to meet you Y/N,” Bucky redirected the conversation to you again, A sincere look on his face. “I hope we will see you around more then.”
“Unfortunately, we have to go, Cap is waiting for us.” Sam nodded towards you and Tony. You returned a goodbye before tony swept you away to show you his new project.
“What was it back there lover boy?” Sam teased Bucky when you were out of earshot. Bucky looked back at you and shook his head.
“Don’t know what you are talking about, Wilson.”
“Sure” Sam laughed at him but let it go.
As much as you hated to admit that tony was right, it didn’t take long for the team to warm up to you and take you as one of their own. Two weeks later and you found your place there. Natasha and you became quite close as you, Wanda, and Pepper occasionally had girls night.
Tony was smug all day long when one day at the lab Bruce told you that you’re very calming to have around. When Steve and Sam agreed and said it could have a good effect on the team Tony’s smugness somehow increased. It was very annoying. No one should ever let Tony be proved right.
Thor was the biggest puppy you have ever met, basically a Labrador. You found out his slight obsession with pop tarts, and you took it on yourself to educate him on some pop culture because let’s be honest who would turn down an opportunity to watch your favorite movies with someone who wouldn’t object to any of them. When you one time watched the Sherlock Holmes movie with Thor and Steve came in and said he didn’t watch it, you decided it is absolutely essential to have a movie night. You found Clint in the vents shouting an agreement to you.
Even though you managed to befriend Thor, Loki and you soon became good friends. He appreciated your skill of lie detecting and you two often sat and read books together.
Then there was Bucky, your friendship started to form when you joined in on a prank on Sam. You and Bucky ran so fast, dying of laughter, as Sam chased you around with his brand new sparkly pink wings.
From there you friendship blossomed, but to your dismay so did your little crush. It started from invitations to go on walks, to him coming to your door in the dead of the night in seek for comfort after a nightmare. You always let him in. you’d listen to him if he wanted you to, and you distracted him when he didn’t.
Your best friend never showed up to breakfast so you’d sit next to Bucky instead. In movie nights you found Bucky saving you a seat next to him every time until he didn’t have to, it was a silent agreement amongst the team.
You never would have expected the next development though: Bucky was a cuddler. It started small, a hand on the small of your back in the morning when he entered the kitchen. Then an arm in the dark around your shoulder, stroking your arm as you all sat and watched a movie.
“Can I just maybe lie down?” he asked one night. It was 3am and the dark circles under his eyes made your heart ache. You just nodded but were surprised at his actions. You assumed he meant to lie down on the bed rather than sitting against the headboard. He lowered himself on the bed and put his head on your thighs and began to talk to you. You got over your momentary shock to listen to what he wants to talk about, absentmindedly you found yourself stroking his short hair. It was soft and from his content sigh he seemed to enjoy it too.
Imagine the Fourth of July. Now, imagine it with a bit more… Tony. That’s exactly what happened to Steve’s birthday party. Tony told you all about what he was planning weeks before, and you two worked about it endlessly since then. You were a bit annoyed at first, it was way too extravagant to your taste but now that you’re standing at the entrance, looking down from the stairs at all the people there, you couldn’t help but feel proud. The people there varied, from the avengers to the agents you didn’t recognize and all sorts of people who you assumed were high profiled? Never the one to initiate a conversation with a stranger you went ahead to the bar to try and find Tony.
Instead, at the bar you found Natasha who sat there with a drink, scaring away anyone who tried to bother her, you of course she welcomed.
“I’m so glad you came! I know it’s not really your thing but this place looks amazing, so is your dress!” Natasha gashed at you.
“You look absolutely incredible Nat!” you took in her tight short stress and how well she looked in it, she was your friend but you could feel the discomfort start to grow. You smoothed down your skirt. “Do you know where tony is?”
“he is probably talking to some rich assholes who are leaning in to his every word” she joked with you, “I think I saw him with our birthday boy so maybe you should ask him.” She nodded to behind you.
“Steve! Happy birthday!” you rushed to hug him. “How do you like the party?”
“Well, tony sure has expensive taste, it’s lovely Y/N.” America’s golden boy smiled at you.
“Speaking of tony, have you seen him?”
“Yeah, he was actually looking for you earlier, he’s right there.” Steve pointed to the other side of the room where tony stood with Pepper, surrounded by a group of people.
With a short thank you, you attempted to make your way there, casting tens of apologies as you tried to shuffle through the dancing crowd. From the corner of your eye you spotted Bucky, sitting on the couch next to a girl who was basically sitting in his lap, you saw the smile on his face, you never saw that kind of smile on him before. In an attempt to ignore the twist in your stomach, you continued pushing people until you found Tony, surrounded by a whole new group now. When he noticed you and the look on your face, he whispered to Pepper who then diverted the conversation away from Tony- who slipped away towards you.
“Hey darling, I tried to find you earlier.” He told you as he gave you a hug.
“It took me a little longer to get ready I guess.” You looked behind you to see Bucky still with that girl, you adjusted your dress.
Tony took in your actions. He knew you too well.
“Do you want to go outside, a little bit of fresh air could help?”
“No, no you love these parties! I can’t take you away from that.” You dismissed it quickly.
“Well fine, if you want me to enjoy it so much then dance with me.” He dragged you to the DJ and you heard him ask for a couple of slower songs, and then dragged you to the middle of the dance floor. You heard your favorite song playing and tony enveloped you in his arms, immediately comforting you. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“There isn’t really much to talk about, you know how sometimes these parties can trigger me. Sometimes it can make a person like me feel a bit inadequate I guess.” You leaned your head on his chest.
“You’re better than all of these people sweetheart, you’re my best friend tell me who made you feel like this and I will personally give them a free ride to Antarctica.” You could see him doing that which made you laugh.
“With all the penguins? That sounds fun though.” You argued.
“Oh you’re right. I guess I’ll have to think of a different place then. Do you think Barnes would like the desert? I mean with that metal arm it must heat up-”
“Wait what? Why would you say Bucky?” that sneaky son of a bitch.
“Come on, I saw you look at him, did he make you feel bad?” tony looked you in the eyes this time, sincere.
“No,” you shrugged. “I just saw Nat and all these beautiful agents and then I saw him with one and I guess it just made me feel bad way too fast. He didn’t do anything wrong.”
Some days were worse than others, some days it was just a few passing thoughts, some it was thunder and dark lingering clouds.
“Well, there isn’t a point in me telling you how gorgeous you are because you will never believe me, even though you are and I should probably get you an eye doctor, maybe schedule something with Dr. Cho. Anyway, if this is because of Barnes, then I can assure you he only has eyes for you.”
“I don’t need an eye doctor!” you hit his arm and laughed, before putting your head back on his chest. “And about the other thing, I doubt that. I think maybe he should be with someone more like him, which makes more sense.” You still looked around, not seeing Bucky anywhere.
“I don’t think you should make any sort of decision when you’re this anxious. I don’t think you’re capable of clear judgment in this situation darling.” He said to you quietly, worried overtones in his voice.
“I’m fine Tony, I’m not that anxious.”
“your hands are shaking Y/N…” as he told you that, you looked at the hand you put on his chest, his hand now cradled it as you saw it shaking. How did you not notice it? When tony saw as you realized what was happening he knew there was no room for argument. “I’m taking you away.”
You put up no fight as he quickly managed to take you away without drawing too much attention. You didn’t see Bucky searching for you in the crowd after that.
Bucky sat there on the couch, happy for his best friend as he enjoyed his party. He was smiling uncomfortably as the girl next to him scooted closer to him. His mental health got a lot better, and his confidence grew- he felt the man he once was but newer, most of the time. Big crowds still managed to get to him though. He nodded along to the girl next to him who refused to call him anything but James, he tried to be polite. He hated the crowds, you would know that. He thought. Then he heard your favorite song playing from the far side of the room, there he finally saw you, dancing with Tony. He knew tony was your best friend, but he still felt a tug at his heart as you put your head near his arc reactor.
He has been pondering on when to tell you about his feelings for you, confident that you wouldn’t turn him down. The two of you grew so close, you were an absolute angel to him. He saw you hit Tony’s arm and suddenly his smile turned genuine. He knew you felt the same way as him, it was hard to ignore. You seemed almost as happy as he is when the two of you are alone. Maybe he could tell you tonight.
“James? Are you even listening to me?” the girl called him.
“Yes, sorry, your name is August right?” she nodded at him. “Sorry but I have to go, I have a couple of things to do.” He got up then and went towards where he last saw you, but you where nowhere to be found.
The next day tony seemed to be stuck at your side, you tried to tell him that you’re fine but he insisted to “borrow you from Pepper because he needs an assistant.” Or so he claims. Apparently he needed an assistant to buy him ice cream in your favorite flavor or to cook him a meal which coincidentally happens to be your favorite desert- to give him credit he did try to help but he might have tried to mix the eggs with the flour and got it all over the counter. You burst into a fit of laughter and he told F.R.I.D.A.Y to order pizza. So, the two of you sat in the kitchen with your pizza, after cleaning the place.
“I might have to borrow you from Pepper more often, you are a great assistant.”
“Yeah, sure” you played along before setting your pizza down. “Thank you Tony.”
“Anytime” He smiled at you through a mouthful of pizza.
The kitchen door opened, and in stumbled Steve and Bucky, who for once slept in today.
“Well hello boys, what got you looking so bad?” Tony smirked at them.
“It’s all Thor’s fault, he brought the Asgardian mead.” Steve said, you laughed at his hangover state, it was rare but precious.
“Hey doll, I didn’t get to talk to you yesterday, couldn’t find you.” He smiled at you, his rough voice nearly killed you- you were certain. You looked over at tony as you stumbled over what to say.
“We left early, she claimed I was too drunk and should get some air.” He winked at you “isn’t she just the best Barnes?” he then looked at Bucky; you swear you hated him sometimes.
“An absolute angel,” Bucky replied, assessing tony. “But you seem okay enough.”
“Yes well I tried telling her, but she insisted.” Tony easily replied and matched Bucky’s stare.
“How did you manage to get him to actually listen to you Y/N? That’s impressive.” Steve commented, oblivious to the slight tension as he made coffee.
“Years of practice I guess, it is hard to accomplish because he sure can be an ass sometimes.” You kicked Tony under the table to look at you. He only smiled.
“Capcicle doesn’t like that kind of language Y/N.” you heard Steve groaning as he put a coffee cup in front of Bucky who was seated next to you, and sat in front of him next to tony.
“That happened years ago Tony!”
“Doll, I was wondering if you wanted to watch a movie later maybe?” Bucky leaned in to ask you, before you could answer though, Steve spoke up.
“Why is there flour on the counter?”
“On your ass too, you picked the wrong chair.” Tony helpfully chimed in “you know, those pants do nothing for your ass.”
“Tony messed up the kitchen, I guess we didn’t clean it all.” You said apologetically and got up. “I actually have a lot of things to do for Pepper today, since tony stole me, so I should probably go start on that.” You exited the room, looking forward to a distraction at work.
“Tony, you know you shouldn’t cook!” Steve patted the chair, and then sat on it again.
“Hey, I was only trying to help Y/N in baking a cake, I had good intentions!” tony defended.
“Why was she making a cake in the afternoon?”
“Relax Barnes, I asked her to bake me a cake but when it tragically somehow blew up we settled on pizza.” Tony lifted up his slice of pizza in proof. “Why do you care anyway?”
“What kind of question is that?” Bucky looked at him quizzically. “Tony, is there some sort of a problem?”
“I’m just asking, why do you care about her?” Steve noticed the change in the question but Bucky just looked confused.
“I care about her because she is my friend, just like the rest of you here!” Bucky was getting angry by the second, where was this all coming from?
“Yes, but do you care about her only as a friend?” tony asked and this time Bucky noticed the change and his anger all melted away.
“No.” he admitted, not bothering to hide it. “Were you just trying to get me to confess my feelings?”
“They learn things so fast, don’t they Steve?” he looked at an amused Steve who just nodded.
“Even I couldn’t get him to say something. Good job Tony.”
“Okay, I am leaving, this is clearly an ambush.” Bucky left the kitchen then.
Bucky was headed to his room to clear his head, hoping you won’t be as busy tomorrow. He was in the hallway when he passed your room, it was then that he heard your TV on; he recognized the theme song of Brooklyn Nine-Nine playing. Why were you watching TV when you said you’re working? Bucky went to his room and decided to let it go.
For the next week Bucky studied your moves carefully. You started to avoid going out with him, making excuses that he could easily read as lies. At night you accepted him with open arms to talk about his nightmares, but he noticed you smiled less now. When movie night came along he found the seat next to him empty as you sat next to tony, he wasn’t the only one to notice it. That was it for him.
“Nat,” he found Natasha the next day alone in the common room. “Do you know if Y/N is upset with me?”
“Probably, yes, I don’t know why though.” Natasha shrugged.
“I don’t know what I did, she is still nice to me but she avoids even being in the same room as me.” Bucky sat next to her. The assassin put her book down finally and paid attention to Bucky. “I don’t know what to do; I can’t accuse her of anything. I just feel something is wrong. We were really close.”
“I’m sure it’s nothing major, you should talk to her.” Natasha put her hand on his, to try and comfort her friend. She’s seen the way you looked at each other, it was impossible to miss the connection.
You entered the room, unaware of the conversation until you looked up and the two avengers stopped talking and looked at you, but you looked at the position they were in, you were clearly interrupting a private conversation.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize you were here. Sorry, I’ll leave you two alone.” You exited the room before Bucky even stood up, he came to seat back down but Nat kicked him.
“What are you doing? Go and talk to her!” she all but commanded him. He wasn’t going to fight Natasha, that’s just a lost cause.
You were safe in your room, it was all fine. Everything was fine. You couldn’t have expected that falling for an avenger would be a good idea. They are different from you, you’re just… you. They are superheroes. Everyone in the building is either a highly trained agent or one of the top scientists in the world. You were just Tony’s friend, here to support him and maybe bring some normalcy to the superheroes. How could you possibly compete with all that? Your lungs felt too tight, it’s like you could barely breathe.
“Miss Y/N I am recognizing symptoms of a possible panic attack, would you like me to call Mr. Stark?” F.R.I.D.A.Y called to you, snapping you out of your daze.
“No, don’t call tony, or anyone, can you just talk me through breathing?” the AI complied until you managed to calm down and get your breathing right. Bless Tony Stark, anxiety can fuck off.
“Miss, Sergeant Barnes is requesting to open the door; I have shut it alongside any outside noise, would you like me to lift it?”
“Yes F.R.I.D.A.Y, thank you.” You could handle it. You opened the door to see a frustrated Bucky. “Hi Bucky, what do you need?”
Bucky just stepped right into your room and shut the door behind him.
“I need you to tell me what did I do wrong?”
“What? You didn’t do anything wrong.” You were confused now.
“Then why the hell are you avoiding me? I thought you were happy, I thought you wanted me around.” Oh, how could you explain this to him without him taking pity on you?
“Of course I want you around Bucky, it’s okay it’s not that. I’m just giving you space. It’s alright.” You tried to assure him, while also hoping you could convince yourself.
“Giving me space? Doll I don’t want space away from you. Why are you pulling away from me?” he reached for your hand, his metal arm trying to bring you closer.
“Bucky, really it’s alright. Just let this go.” You pleaded him.
“No it’s not alright, I’m not alright. Because the woman I’m in love with is pushing me away and I don’t know what to do to bring her back to me!” He confessed to you, the frustration in his voice gave away to the longing look in his blue eyes.
“You- you what?” you stopped trying to resist him, your shock letting him pull you closer, he was holding both your arms now, keeping you close.
“I’m in love with you. Is it really that hard to believe?” He questions, his voice low now, as if someone might hear, and he wanted to keep this intimate moment just for the two of you.
“No.” you said before collecting yourself. “No, you can’t be in love with me.”
“Of course I can, it’s really easy to fall for you doll.” Bucky huffed a laugh. “I thought you felt the same way, do you?”
“I…” Could you really lie to a supersoldier? Would you lie to Bucky? “I do. Of course I do, but you don’t understand. Bucky, you’re a superhero, a supersoldier. I’m on the other hand just a girl with too much anxiety who happens to have the best friend in the world which is why I was even allowed to live here in the first place. You deserve so much better Bucky, you really do. And I- I don’t deserve you.” You hang your head low, if only he could realize that, it will hurt less. Your eyes were watering but you blinked them shut.
Bucky’s right hand came to your chin and held it up. You are an absolute idiot. Bucky mused at what you said.
“Doll, if there is one thing that I learned in therapy is that even after everything I did, I can still become the man I want to be and I deserve to get happiness. You make me so happy doll, you really do. But you deserve happiness too. Tell me, do I make you happy?”
“Yes, very much. But-”
“No. You deserve all the love and happiness in the world and if you’ll have me, I promise to keep you happy, always. I know I can’t solve anxiety, I have it too. But you help me with it, so I’ll do whatever I can to help you.”
You looked into the sea in his eyes, trying to find any doubt, but all you found was determination to make you understand, to make you believe it. And for a moment you did. That was all it took.
“If you’ll have me, I promise to make you happy and make sure you are loved, always.” You whispered. “Thank you.”
“No need to thank me, I just- I want you to remember, you deserve this. Whether it’s happiness with me or with someone else. You deserve to be loved by your friends, and if it’s here than this is your home and we’re your family. You deserve love and support and if it’s me then please, will you have me?”
“Yes. I don’t want anyone else.”
The next thing you knew, his lips crushed into yours, pouring out all of your emotion to the kiss. This feels right, this is right. Maybe you’re worthy of a happy ending after all. Maybe you’ll find it right here, in this compound, with Bucky.
Little did you know, in the far away land that is Tony’s messy lab, F.R.I.D.A.Y notified him per his request about your panic attack. Now, with the monitors turned on, he watched the two of you with a smile at his lips.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y? Tell Steve he owes me 20 bucks.”
