Progress: Page 430/536 "Who would dare defy death itself? I will" -Inej Fall is coming! This morning I did some reading with my dog after breakfast. I can see why there are both lovers, and haters of this book. But I must say, while both sides are valid, I am on the loving side. I have my critics, but I've fallen in love with these characters, because I see a small piece of myself in every one of them. Also, the symbolism in this book, purposeful or not, like Inej's skill on the wire or Matthias and his association with wolves...I'll get more into it when I finish the book, but I really adore it. - - - - ♡ #crookedkingdom #sixofcrows #kazbrekker #leighbardugo #inejghafa #grishaverse #ninazenik #jesperfahey #wylanvaneck #shadowandbone #matthiashelvar #bookstagram #grisha #kanej #kingofscars #ruinandrising #soc #alinastarkov #nikolailantsov #books #thedarkling #wesper #shadowandbonenetflix #ketterdam #sixofcrowsduology #helnik #thedregs #zoyanazyalensky #siegeandstorm #grishatrilogy https://www.instagram.com/p/ChhlNp3LByA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

BOOK REVIEW TIME ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 This book is a phenomenal story about a single mother of one trying to get her life together after her shit husband divorces her. She discovers that a magical bakery has been left to her by a mysterious estranged aunt. So she moves to this small, quirky town, and delves into a realm of magic and witchery, all while trying to find her path in life. Sounds a bit cheesy, right? Give it a chance. It's a wonderful story. One of the best parts about this book is the emotion it evokes. Often I found myself getting excited about the bakery right along with the main character. Her love for life and baking was somehow contagious. I find this refreshing in a book. It means the author put some heart into the story. In the beginning of the book, I really didn't like Aurie. And at times, I feel as though she is portrayed inconsistently. She whines like a toddler but then acts and talks like a teenager. She also complains- a lot. As a teen who sacrificed a lot for family, I found that off putting. As I continued to read, I began to like and understand Aurie more, which was a nice suprise. There's also this underlying tone of mystery that drives the plot of the book and keeps the reader just slightly on their toes, which I appreciate. Overall, I would definitely recommend checking this one out. It's a great story with a beautiful cover to match~ PS: Ms. Jessica (author) congratulations. I know the road to publication is not always easy, but you've made it! It was truely an honor to recieve an ARC, and honestly, I'll treasure it forever. Also, life update!!! I'm on a trip right now and it feels nice to lie back and read. My boyfriend bought me a copy of Caraval so I can read it again♡ so that's what I'll be doing. - - - - ♡ #bookobsessed #bookblogger #bookstagrammer #bookworm #booksofinstagram #bookrecommendations #bookrecommendation #booksbooksbooks #bookreviewer #bookreviews#bookphotography #bookaddict #booknerdigans #cozyvibe #coffeeaesthetic #epicreads✨Rezension✨ #germanbookstagram #bookstagramdeutschland #lesenisttoll #booklover#booknerd #booklove #lovebooks #fiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CgikYnOLSrc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Art of Healing
I have decided that watercolor is more fun monochrome, And that sometimes life is less painful in monotone.
Painting pictures of people I don't even know Is much easier than talking, and putting on a show.
Art is a concept but it's also a prayer. Worship and praise in every layer.
The right ocre yellow could rival the sun; Seeing which one shines brighter could be fun.
A painting is scrying but emotions are chores. A past is boring but brushstrokes are lore.
A song is a canvas and colors are the notes. Speaking is too vain, but a good drawing gloats.
A green is silent and a pink is loud, A blue is calming and a purple is proud.
There is a story in the colors, Each one of them unique from others.
There is a thing that is glue When I am falling apart.
There is peace in painting And joy in its art.

Help
When you decide one day that you're going to rewrite the 56000 word fantasy book you wrote in 9th grade so you start and then realize "hey, this might be better in third person," so begrudgingly, you switch it up, then decide it as better in first and now you're staring at a blank page wondering where you've gone wrong with your life at 3am.

A perfect life would be a very boring story. What is life without struggle or heartbreak? Light means nothing without the dark. Happiness is worthless without sadness. In our darkest hours, we must remember that our worst moments just make our best ones even better.

The night air chilled my skin, even through my long black bodysuit. Just barely, in front of me, I could see Lord Axis crouched down on the end of the roof. I sauntered over to him, balancing one foot in front of the other on the roof’s apex. He turned to face me, his expression grave. The moon lit up the silver streaks in his dark hair, and the faint bags beneath his cold, brown eyes.
“Going somewhere?” I asked, leaping the last couple steps to him and landing, quite perfectly, on the roof's edge. I spared the city five stories below a causal glance, briefly admiring its twinkling beauty. It was a bustling night, everyone from young ladies to old men walking on the street well after dark, most wearing the ceremonial garb of the Lotus festival.
“Please get down before you give your master a heart attack, Leanna.” He shifted so he was beside me, in a sitting position. I dutifully ignored him, hopping a couple times on one foot, for dramatic affect.
“Tell me where you’re going first, My Lord” I countered, shooting him a wink. He sighed, catching hold of my wrist and pulling me down to sit beside him.
“Do you see the stars, Leanna?” he whispered. I turned my head to face him. My Lord’s eyes were warmer now, his handsome face tipped upwards, toward a cloudy night sky. A heat bloomed in my chest as I saw his eyes twinkle with childlike amusement. It was such a raw and unguarded gaze, as if the promise of stars had stripped back years of courtly burdens and duties.
“Leanna,” he murmured, tasting my name on his lips, “Can you see any?”
“Yes, my Lord” I mumbled, staring at the way the light caught and glistened in his dark eyes, “I can see many stars tonight.” We sat in silence for a while longer, him trying to find stars on a cloudy night, and me counting the stars in his eyes. Both of us a tad mesmerized by the sight, I’m sure. At last, he breaks the silence.
“I received another job last week. The debt must be paid, today.” I shuddered at the thought, standing up to pace the length of the roof’s edge. I steeled myself for an argument with my master.
“Take me with you?” It was supposed to be a firm request, but I was raised on the streets, and Axis was raised in a gilded manor, so it came out as more of a question instead. Just as I suspected, he shook his head.
“It’s too dangerous,” he said simply.
“Right,” I argued, spinning on my heel to face my Lord, “Too dangerous for somebody who grew up in a rotting sewer, until she was taken at the age of 10 and trained for 7 years to be a slut, servant, and killer, then sold off to the highest bidder, aka you, my darling Master” He winced, and I almost felt like I should take the words back.
Almost.
I did however, have to concede that I was being a tad bit unfair with that depiction of my life. After all, he did technically save me from near certain death or enslavement. He hadn’t even requested any of my services yet. Not even the sexy one. Some part of me bristled at that, despite my appreciation for his kindness.
“Just let me come, Axis” he flinched when I dropped his title, and for a second I was worried the casual approach was going to get me in big trouble. But I was bored, and a little stir crazy, so at that exact moment, big trouble was seeming more and more fun. And all that aside, I was worried. My master had grey hair strands at the ripe age of 22. Something in my heart ached knowing how much he had to shoulder, all alone. Lord Axis stood, his stare level with mine, despite my standing on the highest tip of the roof.
“Don’t slow me down,” he grunted. I whooped and hollered at his concession, taking a victory leap directly off the building.
For a moment, I fly.
I hit the flat roof of the next building running, making my way toward the Wailard Family’s Summer Estates. Perhaps I had already done a bit of snooping in my Master’s Grand Office...and had intended to follow him to his job from the start.
“Dammit, Leanna” I heard him say from the side of me. The wind carries my laughter as I fly from rooftop to rooftop. Axis’s curses got more and more creative with each jump. I was a lot faster than he was. I wonder if that’s thanks to my magic, or just a street kid thing.
I shock myself when I realize, I’ll probably never know.
---
Leanna reached the Estates an entire 15 minutes before I did.
I found my Leanna waiting for me lounging atop the stone pillar of the west gate. The girl had the agility of a cat.
“Any regrets so far, Master?” she purred, leaping down in front of me with surprising grace. I chuckled, reaching out to touch a lock of her hair that escaped her ponytail.
“Only bringing you along,” I bantered. She faked frowned at me, glancing at my hand in her hair with an emotion I couldn’t quite place. She took a step closer to me, mischief in her eyes. Another step and our noses would be touching.
“Aww, you don’t enjoy my company?” she pouted. I felt myself turn grave. Because in a world where smiles were traps and promises were cages, Leanna was probably the only person I really wanted to be with.
“No,” I said at last, fixing the piece of hair I had been playing with. “I just wouldn’t have wanted you to see what I’m capable of.” Not wanting to see her expression, I turned my back to her and walked straight up the lawn of the Estate.
This debt had to be paid in blood.
Writing Prompt #34:

Short Story One Shots (Part 1)
My hands scratch against the reins as I hold Calisi steady, digging my heels into the saddle footholds as she tries to sniff every faery that flits by. Beside me, Ambrose does the same for his horse, Misha.
“Hamaya,” he starts, urging Misha next to Calisi, “Wouldn’t you like to run away?” I whip my head right to face him, as a pang of longing attacks my chest.
“Am! We’ve lived here our whole lives, for heavens sake!” Ambrose’s face takes on a downward sort of candor, a type of introspection I rarely see from my childhood friend. He looks out to the crop fields in the distance, and for a second, I almost think he’s sad.
“Am,” I say, more gently, taking a hand off of Calisi’s reins to touch his shoulder. A wave of heat rushed to my face as he leaned into the contact, bringing the palm of my hand to his cheek. He closes his eyes and smiles as if he’s having a lovely dream.   “Maya,” He murmurs, touching his lips to the back of my hand. The heat within me intensifies, so much so I almost pull away from the blatant affection. Ambrose opened his eyes, the serenity in them rooting me to my place atop Calisi.
“Run away with me, Maya.” a wanting stirs itself within me, and I fight to push it down, as Am’s hand tangles itself in my hair. He pulls me forward, leaning to the side of his horse, so that our foreheads touch. I continue to fight the incessant pounding of my damning heart.
As his lips meet mine in a gentle caress, I lose the battle completely.
His kiss is the sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted, and a small noise escapes my lips as I lean in closer, letting Am support me. The moment lasts for eternity, ending only when Am pulls away to peer at my face.
“Will you run away with me now?” His tone is light, his smile teasing. But in his eyes, I see a flicker of hope.
“Oh, Am. Please don’t make me-” he suddenly pulls away, a wild grin plastered on his face.
“I’ll see you on the road,” he hollers right as he slaps a firm hand on Calisi’s rear, using his other hand to propel something small and twinkling into the distance.
Silver Hell.
“Calisi, NO!” I scream, but I only had one hand on the reins, and Calisi’s strange fascination with the Little People was much stronger than even my best throwing arm. As I screamed sailors curses at Ambrose, Calisi took off toward the outskirts of our hometown, under the open sky, the setting sun warming my chest as if to comfort me. I try to get a hold of Calisi, as Am turns around from ahead, flashing me a huge smile. Rivulets of red and gold shine across his face, the setting sun giving him a radiant glow. For a moment, he becomes the sun. Giving in, I urge Calisi faster, bringing her just about level with Misha, who was neighing and loving every bit of the chaos. Ambrose touches two fingers to his heart.
I love you.
My hands shake with quiet joy as I touch two fingers to my chest, tapping it thrice.
I love you, too.
As we race Calisi and Misha toward a setting sun, over an open road, I think to myself that I would very much like to run away.
