Hitting the send button, Matt flashed her an apologetic smile while stuffing his phone back into his pocket. ❛ Sorry, darling. Bloody work just keeps coming even if I want to take a break from it. ❜ They had met up at the café close to her place after he arrived in the city from travelling abroad, providing his clients with whatever they needed. No matter what it was, Matt was the man to get it as fast as he could even if it was a damn airplane. Now he wanted to relax for a few weeks and spend some time with Scarlett. ❛ How's my girl doing? I actually have something for you. ❜

Josh Matthews Chapter 1
Game night
“Scar! Hurry! I wanna go to the game night!” Maya called for me.
“Could you just tell me the address? I'll go there myself.” I replied. With that I heard the door close.
My little sister is gone so now I have left to change. As I changed into my jeans and blue sweater.
OUTfit:
I walked into the house seeing as the game had already started. “Great! Everyone, meet my sister! Scarlett Hart.” Maya began when she saw me. “Hi love,” I said as I gave my baby sister a side hug. I sat on a couch, watching the game as a boy who looked around my age came walking in. “Your game host is back. And who do we have here?” He asked as he looked at me. “Scarlett Hart.” I answered, giving out my hand for a handshake. He smiled softly as he replied, “Josh Matthews”. I wasn’t planning on playing in all honesty. I just wanted to meet my sister’s friends and when she said Matthews I thought of my dear old teacher, Cory Matthews. While everyone was playing, Josh was just talking about what was going on and in between, we had some conversation. During the game I simply just knew everyone's name except for the two boys that are to be known as dr. Turtleneck and Mr Howdy. I knew; Ava, Auggie, Topanga, Cory, Riley and Josh. The game went on and Riley decided to play the long game. Geez who would do that? But anyways, The game was long and finally, to end it, Auggie had to land a two. I heard someone say it was impossible to get it then, Ava just said, “We pick two.” as she moved the piece. Topanga sat up straight and said, “You know Ava, I finally like you.” But Ava just gave a tired, “Okay.” So that was all? Interesting. Josh asked for my number and I just gave it because we were apparently in the same school and he said that it would be nice to know someone out of the football team or the cheerleaders. I chuckled at his reason. Before leaving, I thanked Topanga and Cory for having us. Maya and I left to go home and before I slept, I took a cold shower.

What was Ethan and Melody’s first time having sex like? Did he plan something special or did it happen naturally? Or did she initiated it? 👀 Did Ethan went and talked to their parents before going for it or just let them know afterwards? I can’t imagine Matthew giving him the sex talk lol
never thought about it bc in the main chapters of wltay ethan’s 8 and like caroline i want him to stay that way ✨forever✨ but obvi after the teasing about 20 year old him and melody in the holiday special i kinda figured i might need to think up something bc ethan is like everyone’s adopted fictional son and they’d want to know.
obvi ethan got the whole puberty/seggs talk in school (and via educational book mentioned in scarlett’s pregnancy chapter. fun fact: there actually is a boys version of that american girl: care and keeping of you body book, written by the same author which i think is v cool), plus matt talked to him (and also recruited his dad, richard and brady bc mans really doesn’t want to talk to his 10 year old about puberty + seggs 😩) and he never really talks much about it (what kid would tbh) unless there’s issues or he has questions and more often than not, he’s embarrassed but still talks to anyone anyway.
BUT REALLY— ethan doesn’t start to ask questions till high school (bc hello, teenagers) and caroline’s normally pretty good at answering them, but also reiterates how he shouldn’t be doing anything until he’s ready and with the right person (but man has been dating melody for like a solid 1-2 years now so lol) and ethan’s normally like “ya i know, but you and dad did it when you were 15,” which is usually when matt butts in somehow with the “and we got pregnant with you at 17, do the math.” 💀 he never really takes it seriously bc man doesn’t want ethan having seggsy time at the risk he might become a grandfather “teen pregnancies can be generational, caroline 😩” and normally miss caroline is like “🙄 shut up matthew, not if we keep the conversation open” kind of reply. and they do, which is why he’s comfortable (while also being slightly embarrassed) whenever caroline or matt ask IF he’s seggsually active or thinking about it.
matt’s not a big fan of the seggs talk for sure, but he obvi knows it’s pretty important. so surprisingly he does however give ethan a bigggggg lecture when he goes off to play for usntdp because he is away from home, a teenage boy and playing hockey for a really good program— and matt knows how it was when he was playing and teen pressures and parties, so he just gives him an all around responsibility and slight threat of: ‘don’t do something stupid and cheat on your girlfriend’ lecture.
anywho, it's not until ethan turns like 16 and is home for winter break when he actually like...pulls matt aside and is all "so um...mel and i have been talking about...ya know." and matt's all red-faced bc hello?? but he talks to him and reiterates the whole safe-seggs thing and is also like "well...do you want your mom to know?" and ethan's all "i was kinda of hoping you'd tell her for me 🥴" and caroline just happens to walk into the room with 10-month-old payson (and is also 5 months preggo w/ oliver) and matt and ethan are just like "🙂" and ethan just blurts it out all "mel and i are thinking about having seggs." and caroline (who is just tired and pregant) is just asking questions about birth control, if they’re being pressured into it, etc all those parent things when it comes to learning your teen might b considering having seggs.
after the fact, they're slighty uneasy about him being seggsually active bc hello, he's their kid and also nervous about ✨babies✨ but also know trust him to be safe and to come to them if anything is ever wrong (esp since he's been open and honest with them since the beginning). so they basically tell him that as long as he's sure about his decision, is comfortable and is safe, that they're not going to like ground him or anything (unless he starts acting stupid and sneaks out and stuff– then they might get a little testy). matt buys him condoms, caroline gives him the re-rundown on safe-sex and pregnancies and both reiterate that birth control isn't 100%– so to use a condom every time and if something happens, then to tell them and they'll buy a plan b (since you have to be 17 to buy) and help them figure it out– bc that's exactly how they had him 🥰
flash forward seven months later, they're back home in st. louis for the summer– ethan's 16, scarlett's 4, payson's 1 and oliver is 3 months– and matt is like “hey, let's go out on a date since we haven't done that in a while. my parents or yours can watch the kids and ethan’s old enough to stay home by himself for a few hours.” well ethan’s all “mel and i are actually going on a date to the movies…so can you guys maybe not go there?” and they’re all “lol sure, cause we’re adults and go on dates at night, not to early evening movies.” and mr boy is hesitant to ask but he does anyway and he’s like “is it okay if she comes over after the movie?” and OBVIOUSLY matt and care are both like 🙂👀 and poor ethan is all “no, no please just stop that’s not what i meant. just to like order pizza or something.” and so they’re like “yes that’s fine, just don’t burn the house down and if something does happen— then be safe.”
both go on their dates, matt + care leave about the time ethan and melody come back from their early movie. they go to dinner and just walk around downtown to look at the sights, maybe hit up a museum or two— whatever parents trying to relax from having kids do lol— and around 10 they’re like “hm let’s head home bc tired.” on the way home matt’s like “do you think they did it?” and caroline just smacks his arm like “let’s not think about that. we told him to be safe, gave him advice and the stuff to do so. we just have to trust him.” and matt’s like “okay yeah, you’re right…but do you think they did it?” and caroline’s just like “i don’t know, matthew, he’s 16 and had the house to himself with his girlfriend over. what do you think?” and matt’s all “🙂 i did a lot with my girlfriend at 16 when no one was home…even when people were home. hell, we even snuck out—“ and caroline just laughs and is like “well, whatever happened, don’t bring it up and just…let him talk about it if he wants to. he’s 16, matty. you remember how awkward it all was when your mom caught us and our parents knew.” to which matt is like “yeah, i guess you’re right. hey, do you mind if we stop at the store?”
after stopping at the store they get home, the living room tv is on and awww melody and ethan are fast asleep (and fully clothed) on the couch and gretzky is sleeping soundly on the floor in front of them. matt’s like “😨 not my couch” to which Caroline shoved him and is like “shut up, they’re fine. just fell asleep, let’s go upstairs.” they do and she stops him from going to check ethan’s room and bathroom and he’s all “i just want to know i’m too impatient to wait for him to tell us when he’s too dumb not to throw the condom away in the bathroom trash or leave his bed unmade 😫” and caroline’s like “he’ll tell us if he wants. bed. now.” to which matt’s all “don’t mind if i do 🤪” (they don’t)
next morning caroline wakes up to matt coming back into their room, she goes downstairs to see ethan and melody are gone. makes herself some coffee and legs gretzky out. ethan comes down the stairs freshly showered and kinda hesitates when he sees caroline (bc hello, he’s a teen boy and it’s still awkward) but then doesn’t and is like “morning” and caroline’s all “morning, how was your movie with melody?” and ethan’s stands out on the backyard deck with her like “it was good. you guys should see it.” and caroline’s all “mm maybe.” like we’re talking some small talk to fill the awkwardness before mans just sighs and is like “dad already knows cause he came down this morning right after mel left and i told him. but we had seggs last night— and no, not on the couch, i promise we went to my room.” “that’s fine ethan, just as long as you were safe—“ “i didn’t mean for it to happen- i mean, it wasn’t planned. i didn’t lie to you guys when i told you we weren’t going to. it just kind of happened…i don’t know, like it felt right, does that make sense?” and caroline’s like “it makes perfect sense, ethan. dad and i were…younger than we probably should have been our first time, but for us it was we were with the right person, the timing felt right and we were comfortable with the idea and safe. so as long as that’s what happened last night, then it’s all okay.”
and ethan’s like relieved— cause even though matt + care said they wouldn’t be mad as long as he was safe, he was still nervous actually telling them bc hello it’s just kind of embarrassing telling your parents you lost your virginity, no matter how close of a relationship you have. but the awkwardness is gone and they just talk about how melody is doing back here in st. louis and the plans for today until Gretzky is ready to come back in. when he is, they all come back into the house where matt is walking into the living room holding onto the small cake he made caroline stop at the store for last night and is all smiles like “here you go, e! 🙂” (AND MAN LITERALLY PULLS A LONELY ISLAND I JUST HAD SEX CAKE GIF MOMENT)
Tumblr media
to which ethan just turns red in the face and caroline’s like “THAT’S why we stopped at the store matthew? 😡” and matt’s all “nooo, we stopped at the store because i wanted cake. me writing this just all depended on whether or not he did it. and since he did, which thank you for not ruining my couch, i wrote on it in the best way to tease him in the most lovingly parental way i know how.” and meanwhile they’re all there like 😇🥴🐶👿 and ethan’s like “…thanks, dad.” and goes to grab the cake but matt’s like “oh no, this cake is mine. i just wanted to embarrass you the same way mom and i were embarrassed when mimi walked in on us in the hot tub.” and Caroline takes the cake from him and is like “we’re all eating the cake and i’m scraping this off. no more teasing him or i’ll tell him all the embarrassing times you—“ and poor ethan’s just panicking like “please don’t, i don’t want to know those...”and matt just laughs and pats him on the shoulder and is all “well, it’s just fatherly love, but really…thanks for being honest with us, it’s important to us that you feel comfortable enough to talk to us about this stuff. just, stay safe and don’t make us grandparents while we’re in our thirty’s thanks<3”
but that’s why Ethan gets so flustered easily whenever matt teases him (like in the holiday special) no matter how old he is bc mans literally got him a cake that said “congrats on the seggs” and gave it to him the morning after he lost his virgin*ty. 🥲

Spooktacular Pop Culture Easter Eggs!
The Sixth Episode
The sixth WandaVision episode, a Halloween special called “All-New Halloween Spooktacular”, left audiences trembling with fear and excitement, because the show finally showed more of Evan Peters’ Quicksilver, Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy’s (Jett Klyne) superpowers, and Vision’s (Paul Bettany) investigation into the strange events happening in Westview. Last episode had several pop culture Easter eggs hidden all around it. Let’s take a look at some of the best ones.
Costumes
What are the things that can make a Halloween special incredible? There are several answers to this question, including candy, haunted houses, cemeteries, spooky decorations, and of course, costumes. Each WandaVision character had theirs planned very carefully, and for all of those who read the comics, these costumes were extremely familiar. Each costume was a reference to the character’s comic book persona!

Wanda and Vision can be spotted using their typical original costumes from the original Marvel Comics. Wanda is wearing  horns and a red cape, and Vision has green and yellow spandex with a diamond in the center and a yellow cape.

Quicksilver can be seen using his typical blue shirt with a silver lightning bolt and black pants, with a silver belt around his waist.

Both Billy and Tommy can be seen using their costumes as well, Billy as Speed (left) and Tommy as Wiccan (right). Billy is wearing a suit similar to his uncle Pietro’s, blue with a silver stripe, and Tommy is using a red cape and a band around his head.
Kick-Ass
During episode 6, we can see this exchange between Pietro and his nephews.
During this conversation between Pietro and the Twins, Billy delivers this amazing line, “Yeah, Kick-ass!” when Pietro offers to help him, and Tommy get more candy. Wanda repeats the word “Kick-ass”, a little confused.
This was a nod towards the fact that both Evan Peters and Aaron Taylor Johnson (who played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron) were in Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass (2010), a movie about a Gabe (Aaron Taylor Johnson), a geeky teenager who wants to become a real-life superhero. Evan Peters played his friend, Ass-Kicker.

Malcom In The Middle
Since the beginning, WandaVision has been inspired by several shows when it comes to their intros, bringing several blasts from the past to life in its own way. This time, WandaVision took its inspiration from the 2000’s hit tv show, Malcom In The Middle.
Tumblr media
Malcom In The Middle, Courtesy of FOX
FOX’s Malcom In The Middle is about Malcom (Frankie Muniz), a smart boy living with his family and trying to get through school and adolescence and dealing with being the middle child in his family of 7. The intro to the show is almost identical to WandaVision’s, all the way from the style to the lettering of the titles.

Later on, in the episode, we can see Tommy breaking the fourth wall to talk to the audience, which is something Malcom often does in Malcom In The Middle, to complain about his family and school.

Pietro and Wanda as kids

Later on, we saw a brief flashback to a Halloween night when Wanda and Pietro were kids, and living in Slovakia. As the picture shows, they were both dressed in familiar costumes. Wanda was dressed as The Back Widow, or Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), and Pietro was dressed as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), with an adorable patch over his right eye.
Movie Theatre
Tumblr media
WandaVision, Courtesy of Marvel Studios
Last but not least, there’s a scene in which Billy and Tommy are walking down one of the streets of Downtown Westview, in which we can see a movie theatre called “Coronet” in the background. The double feature is showing two immensely popular Disney movies, The Incredibles, and The Parent Trap. The Incredibles is about a family of five, all possessing powers, much like Wanda and Vision’s family in WandaVision. The Parent Trap is about a pair of twins who reunite, much like Wanda and Pietro in episode 5.
The Bottom Line
WandaVision is full of surprises. Let´s wait and see what they’ll have in store for episode 7, streaming this Friday only on Disney+.

How was film marketed
At the 2015 Licensing International Expo, Disney Consumer Products announced that they would partner with licensees including Hasbro, Lego, Funko, Hot Wheels, Rubies, Mad Engine, C-Life, Jay Franco, Global Brand Group, Kellogg’s, Hallmark and American Greetings to sell merchandise related to the film; Coca-Cola, Google, Samsung, Wrigley, Harley Davidson, Audi, Synchrony Financial, Pringles, Keebler, Pizza Hut, Pop Secret, Mouser Electronics, and Vivo, among other brands, were also licensees for the film.
Cross Media Convergence
The marketing campaign consisted of two trailers, many TV spots, posters and a press tour. Disney’s massive size helped a lot in publicizing the film. The trailers that were released on Marvel’s official YouTube channel generated a lot of views. Trailer one had over 11 million views and trailer two had over 73 million views. Both trailers were very successful in generating excitement towards the film and played a significant role in driving people to go and see the film in cinemas.
CGI (computer-generated imagery)
When it comes to visual effects, the popular refrain over the past few years has been pretty simple: practical effects good, computer-generated effects bad. But the truth is infinitely more interesting, as movies have largely stepped out of the uncanny valley of problematic CG, and entered an era where digital effects are so good, audiences don’t even realize that’s what they’re seeing
Marketing and Distribution, Product Promotions:
Captain America Civil War absolutely crushed the box office over the weekend and, just one weekend into being open in every territory, is already well on its way to a billion dollars. Currently sitting at $675,791,000 for its global box office haul, it should find itself clearing $700 million by the end of the day and hitting the coveted $1 billion mark by the end of its second weekend. Arguably the most notable partnership was the slick Audi commercial that featured footage of the chase scene between Winter Soldier, Black Panther, and Captain America, directed by the Russo brothers themselves. Naturally, this was never a movie that wasn’t going to do well, but the speed with which it’s climbing toward that billion dollar mark is a testament to not only the great product, but the marketing campaign, as well. The tie-in promotions and brand partnerships have amounted to roughly $200 million, with over 100 companies worldwide partnering with the film and offering product tie-ins.The best thing Marvel’s PR and marketing has going for it is the cast members themselves - they’re all great on the publicity tours, comfortable with one another and in front of the camera, and have endeared themselves to fans as much as the characters they play.
Pizza Hut has debuted collectible boxes that allow people to share their allegiance to either Cap or Iron Man with their pizza orders, while cereal and potato chip lovers can look for an exclusive VR experience that will accompany their purchase of participating Kellogg’s, Pringle and Keebler products. Limited-edition Pop Secret popcorn bags feature printed comic panels with Avengers characters. Ahead of the film’s release, there will be a large digital push with campaign told across Google, YouTube and Twitter, which will culminate in a massive online vote: Team Captain America vs. Team Iron Man. The marketing effort has also lined up the smartphone brand Vivo for a blitz across China and Thailand that includes TV, print, digital and out-of-home advertising.
Where and When was it released
USA 12th April 2016 (Los Angeles, California) (premiere)
UK  26th April 2016 (London) (premiere)
USA  6th May 2016
Germany 21st April 2016 (Berlin) (premiere)
2D ? 3D ? Digital?
(3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital HD)
What were the Targeted Audiences for this movie?
Captain America: Civil War was given a 12A in the UK which means children under 12 could go and see the film with their parents. The film is classed as a four quadrant film which means it is aimed at everyone. The four quadrants include males under 25, males over 25, females under 25 and females over 25. All of these factors contributed to the films massive success.

SCARLETT SABET: THE POET EXPLORING MODERN LOVE
Maslow’s Mortimer House
The Notebook | 20th February 2019
Interview: John-Paul Pryor
The young star of the burgeoning British poetry scene on the vagaries of modern love, reflecting the world around you, and taking risks with words The young poet and performer Scarlett Sabet has been hailed by British GQ as one of the key voices in contemporary poetry and has even garnered the appreciation of the famously taciturn musical legend Sir Van Morrison, who has spoken highly of the “intensity and spiritual aspect” of her work. It is worth noting that the award-winning poet Matthew Yeager has also duly described her spoken word as “darkly sonorous vowel music... full of wildness”– and her fourth collection of poetry, Camille certainly offers a nuanced and dramatic interpretation of love and all it encompasses. Featuring a selection of traditional 'love' poems that explore the soaring joy of intimacy, passion and sensuality, and others that delve into destruction, obsession and infatuation, the book presents a unique poetic excavation of what it means to be an emotional animal in the 21st century.
This month, Sabet presents the London launch of Camille, at Mortimer House, where she will also be reading a selection from the works within. Renowned for her emotive readings, Scarlett has performed at some of the world’s most important literary establishments, such as City Lights, San Francisco, Shakespeare & Co, Paris, and The Troubadour, London, where she is currently poet-in-residence. Here, the bright young thing of the burgeoning poetry scene tells Maslow’s Notebook what drives her to paint in words, and explains why a sentient AI with a penchant for poetry might just further alienate us from our own emotional landscapes.
Tell us about your latest collection–what would you say essentially drives you as a poet?
It's a collection of love poems–I wanted to pour more love on the world. And I've always received a really warm response to the love poems in my previous collections. But also, this collection has poems for those in lust, in love, rejected, single, and relieved to be single! I can't help but write–it's a compulsion, but a happy compulsion! Poetry has always been the language that makes the most sense to me. I digest and meditate, and form my own experience through language, words and rhythm. And I love performing my words, I know some poets and writers struggle with that, but I take flight with it. I feel my words have their own life on the page, in people's heads, and they come to life when I perform them on stage. One poem in this book that I've loved performing is a love letter, a kind of eulogy, for Jack Kerouac. It’s called 'For Jack'–I read it first in Kerouac’s birthplace in Massachusetts, so I guess it’s infused with some of his hometown energy.
What for you is the ultimate purpose of poetry?
It is my language of choice. It helps me make sense of the world, and I hope I can offer some illumination to others, and that I may be of service with my work. Also making art, of any kind, is maybe a human attempt at immortality–to throw a penny at an airplane, to make a dent, to record your experience. We've done that since the dawn of time–cave men painted on their walls, recorded their lives. I'm recording my experience, but I observe and reflect the world, and our leaders’ hypocrisy and manipulations.
Why do you think there is a huge resurgence in interest in poetry among the millennial generation?
Words are more important than ever. Words matter, and they carry a lot of weight, especially as there are more ways to communicate than ever before. I think poetry is appealing because it is concise, it's magical, and you can sum something up in only a few lines. My work lives both on the page, and when it's being performed. I love the idea of people reading my words to themselves–on the train, in the city, in their homes. The physical manifestation of my work gets brought into people’s lives and absorbed, in the same way any book I buy and bring home does. I find that fascinating. The emotion between it being read alone at home and being performed is the same – it's just at different volumes. I suppose if you attend one of my readings the intention and emphasis on a word or rhythm will be different.
What do you think about the notion of poetry created by AI?
I love the articulation of the human experience – someone that has lived a flawed life, has experienced shame and tears, and love and desire. I'm sure it's possible to create a perfect algorithm to create a 'perfect' poem, but what's beautiful about perfect? Give me flaws and wisdom and lust. And there are so many humans, living and breathing, that have already been born, that are not being listened to–many people are angry they are being ignored and pushed aside, creating new forms of 'life' will only exasperate this.
How important is poetry in modern society?
Well, poetry is for everyone. Poetry is for everyone, literature is for everyone, Shakespeare is for everyone, regardless of age, race, religion, or gender. Everyone is entitled to be a part of the poetic conversation. I get such a thrill when someone says at one of my poetry readings that they don't normally like poetry, but they really enjoyed it, and it made sense to them, and that they related to what I was saying. That makes me feel like I have done my duty as an artist.
Please tell us about one of the key poems from the new collection that you are particularly proud to have penned…
I'm excited to share the poem "And My Lungs Filled With Ecstatic Song" – that’s an ecstatic mantra, trying to capture this transcendental feeling, a reflection on a loving memory as I was walking in the countryside by a river; it was kind of an epiphany. I used the Brion Gysin/William Burroughs cut-up method to create it, and I performed it for the first time at Shakespeare and Co, in Paris on Valentine’s Day. It was a special place to first perform that poem, because that was the exact location where Burroughs started writing Naked Lunch. I really love William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Kerouac, Ginsberg… They were brave, and truly committed to their life's work. I'm attracted to people with passion that take risks.

Synopsis: **Protecting Caroline is a stand-alone love story. It’s Book 1 in the SEAL of Protection Series.**
Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.
When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.
Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

Synopsis: A young witch emerges from a curse to find her world upended in this gripping fantasy of betrayal, vengeance, and self-discovery set in turn-of-the-century France.
For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.
Vigneron Jean-Paul Martel naively favors science over superstition, and he certainly doesn’t endorse the locals’ belief in witches. But Elena knows a hex when she sees one, and the vineyard is covered in them. To stay on and help the vines recover, she’ll have to hide her true identity, along with her plans for revenge against whoever stole seven winters of her life. And she won’t rest until she can defy the evil powers that are still a threat to herself, Jean-Paul, and the ancient vine-witch legacy in the rolling hills of the Chanceaux Valley.

Synopsis: For once, Kate Peters would like a happy, family Christmas; the kind of Christmas seen in the movies. She wants harmony and happiness, smiling, glowing faces, tables groaning with food, carol singing around the tree. She wants love, kindness, and goodwill to all men, especially in her own house.
What she doesn’t want is drama. Absolutely no drama, whatsoever.
But what she gets is three stroppy children, two equally stroppy grandmothers, a husband who can’t manage to change a lightbulb, and Pepe the poodle.
It’s no wonder she feels unappreciated, overworked, and ignored. At the end of her tinsel-coated tether, and with the only Christmas spirit being in the form of a bottle of raspberry gin, Kate decides to leave them to it, and see how they manage without her.
A quiet little hotel somewhere near the sea, where she can pretend Christmas doesn’t exist, is just the thing she needs. Isn’t it?

Synopsis: It’s tough being a faery in New Orleans, a city fraught with vampires… especially when their very existence drains your life-force.
Willow Rhoswen, owner of The Fated Cupcake and part-time vampire hunter for the Void is having a rough week. Four years after her twin brother’s mysterious death, Willow’s life is threatened and the director saddles her with a new partner—her ex-boyfriend, David. To her horror, he’s turned vamp, which causes her physical pain whenever she touches him… and any other specimen of the undead.
In order to save Willow’s life, David agrees to turn double agent against the most powerful vampire organization in New Orleans. Or so he says. And she’s convinced they know something about her brother’s death. Unsure where David’s loyalties lie, she turns to Talisen, her childhood crush, to help her solve the mystery.
Caught between two gorgeous men and a director who’ll stop at nothing to control Willow’s gifts, she’ll have to follow her instincts and learn who to trust. Otherwise, she risks losing more than just her life.

Synopsis: The Owens sisters confront the challenges of life and love in this bewitching novel from New York Times bestselling author Alice Hoffman.
For more than two hundred years, the Owens women have been blamed for everything that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town. Gillian and Sally have endured that fate as well: as children, the sisters were forever outsiders, taunted, talked about, pointed at. Their elderly aunts almost seemed to encourage the whispers of witchery, with their musty house and their exotic concoctions and their crowd of black cats. But all Gillian and Sally wanted was to escape.
One will do so by marrying, the other by running away. But the bonds they share will bring them back—almost as if by magic…

Synopsis: When he met her, he knew how it would end.
Shade Medici, a warrior king and sole male heir to the dynasty, is expected to mate and produce an heir to secure the continuation of the Medici coven. He’s waited over five hundred years for the right mate, and when he meets Kate Reese, his attraction is more than primal – it’s merciless.
She’s also mortal.
Kate is fresh off a broken engagement and reluctant to open her heart, but her hesitations are no match for the unrelenting pursuits of the vampire King. Their passion for each other is searing…and not everyone is happy about it. Namely the ruling Council.
As they fight against deceit, treachery, and those who aim to see their love fail, Shade also struggles to control his impulses as Kate is immersed into his dark and dangerous world, but it’s imperative he prepare her for the changes that will be demanded of her should she choose to bind herself to him through the blood covenant. All that scorches and glitters isn’t gold, and she quickly learns that falling in love with a vampire King comes at a hefty price:
It may just cost her everything.

in the year 2018 I would love for the rpc to collectively b(a/i)n their fave trash.
Blake Lively
Lively recently said that "Woody Allen is empowering to women," despite the fact that Woody Allen has been accused of molesting his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. His son, Ronan Farrow, even wrote a piece in the Hollywood Reporter about how he believes Dylan, and that he's disappointed that stars continue to work with his father. She also defended Woody Allen when a joke was made at the Cannes Film Festival that insinuated he should be convicted for rape in the United States.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were married at the slave plantation Boone Hall, which is right outside of Charleston, South Carolina. It's a plantation where slave cabins are still standing.
Continually uses transphobic slurs. Although may have finally learned from it.
Kate Winslet
"Woody Allen is an incredible director," she continued. "So is Roman Polanski. I had an extraordinary working experience with both of those men, and that’s the truth."  // The way Harvey Weinstein has treated these vulnerable, talented young women is NOT the way women should ever EVER deem to be acceptable or commonplace in ANY workplace.“I have no doubt that for these women this time has been, and continues to be extremely traumatic. I fully embrace and salute their profound courage, and I unequivocally support this level of very necessary exposure of someone who has behaved in reprehensible and disgusting ways.  Notably after he was terminated from his studio and could no longer offer her roles.
Kate Winslet has spoken out about the ongoing conversation surrounding the pay gap in Hollywood, calling it “vulgar”.   “I’m quite surprised by these conversations to be honest, simply because it seems quite a strange thing to be discussing out in the open like that. I am a very lucky woman and I’m quite happy with how things are ticking along.”
The British actress, has admitted that she often mocks people who become a slave to their diets often on bizarre fads. "I'm just like, 'Yeah, you're right, you look gigantic, you need to lay off those bits of boiled chicken you've been eating because have you seen your a**e?' And they're the size of a pin.
Kristen Stewart
Blames ‘bad acting’ on co-stars "I'm not the type of actor who can perform without wearing a mirror on my face. Everyone knows that you're better with other actors who are really present, who you are having the same experience with, but I am made or broken on it. If I'm working with someone who I'm not vibing with, or who I have to fake anything with, then it's sad for me and it's bad
Hypocritically victimised herself in response to her betrayal of another woman (tbf she was young and engaged in an affair with someone in a position of power over her- however this behaviour has allegedly been repeated multiple times with multiple partners)
“I was like, ‘What do you think? We don’t know any of these people involved. I can personalize situations, which would be very wrong.’ At the end of the day, Jesse and I talked about this. If we were persecuted for the amount of shit that’s been said about us that’s not true, our lives would be over,” Stewart says. “The experience of making the movie was so outside of that, it was fruitful for the two of us to go on with it.”Eisenberg says he doesn’t recall the conversation..’ on working with Woody Allen despite being aware of sexual abuse allegations
On gender equality, “Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something,” she said. “Go write something, go do something.”“And that’s easy to say,” she continued. “Like, f–k, it’s hard to get movies made. It’s a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it’s boring.”
Apologised after backlash for comparing being photographed by paparazzi to rape in Elle UK (Source unavailable). "The photos are so…I feel like I'm looking at someone being raped.".
Actress Kristen Stewart has lashed out at her former teachers, insisting they "failed" to support her while she was away from class on acting jobs.
I lit had to stop because I’m so fed up. I’ve especially seen Blake requested so often recently as an FC change and I’m DONE with it.
Here are further trashbags you can simply google and find the reasons why within about two seconds.
Ben Affleck / Casey Affleck sexual assault
Colin Firth supports Woody Allen
Dominic Sherwood Homophobia
Emma Stone Woody Allen, whitewashing
Gary Oldman Domestic Abuse
Henry Cavill/ Matthew Gray Gubler (consistently dating teenage girls still in school and easily influenced, despite being in their 30s. Henry Cavill allegedly asked girlfriend to leave school before dumping her. Sources can be found on ONTD somewhere.)
Ian Somerhalder There genuinely isn’t enough room
Jared Padalecki rape jokes, abusive behaviour, bigotry
Martin Freeman Racism, homophobia, classism, general asshole.
Matt Bomer this one takes some investigating but suffice to say potentially complicit or at least knowledgeable of Bryan Singer/Kevin Spacey predator parties
Matt Damon support & employment of known sexual predators, “You know, there’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?” he told Peter Travers of ABC. “Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right?”  He added that society was in a “watershed moment” and said it was “wonderful that women are feeling empowered to tell their stories and it’s totally necessary”. But he said: “We live in this culture of outrage and injury, that we’re going to have to correct enough to kind of go, ‘Wait a minute. None of us came here perfect.’”
Milo Ventimiglia verbally and mentally abusive/ physically intimidating (witnessed) allegedly physically abusive to Alexis Bledel, girlfriend at the time. Dated teenager Hayden Panettiere when 29, was allegedly mentally abusive and controlling.
Misha Collins homophobia, bigotry, transphobia
Natalie Dormer Not her job to defend GOT, then defends GOT rape scenes, misogyny, belittles those affected by it. Starring role in a film trivialising and romanticising high suicide rates in Aokigahara Forest, Japan *complicit in whitewashing*. (alternatively does some very good work for children’s charities)
Scarlett Johansson Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, whitewashing
Tom Hardy Physical Abuse, Intimidation

Note
I need to know if Ethan ever gets a pet? I know that in an interview Matthew said he couldn’t have one growing up because a few people in his family are allergic to either dogs or cats.
this is actually something i've considered!
i think initially since things are pretty hectic right after the wedding since the family is moving into a house, they might hold back on getting a pet, especially since they'll only have been in the house for five months before scarlett's born [in the middle of the nhl season no less lol] so a pet like a dog or a cat isn't on the table.
but they'll start him off with something small like a fish and then maybe when scarlett is about a year they'll start up the conversation and talk to ethan about responsibility and how he has to help take care of the dog too, esp since matt is away every so often. they'll take trips to animal shelters and stuff to look at the dogs or look around at breeders.
and then when miss scarlett is only a month away from turning two [aka ethan's birthday month lol] they surprise ethan by taking another trip to the animal shelter bc there's a dog there that ethan absolutely fell in love with and secretly matt and caroline talk more about how it could work having a dog at home and then they secretly buy him.
SOOOOO that trip when they go, ethan sees the adopted paper and gets all sad but is also like "well i hope he goes to a good family and at least he's getting adopted 🥺" LITTLE DOES HE KNOW THOUGH AS THEY'RE LEAVING, [matt never leaves the back room, just says he’s going to the bathroom, when really he’s in the back with an employee to get the doggo] the employee out front is playing along and stopping them like "hey, you forgot something."
and what's that? a red collar matt had bought a few days before, along with the engraved name tag and ethan's like "that's not mine?" and then the door opens and matt's walking out with the doggo on one of those temp leashes and ethan loses his mind 😭😭
and ya, sorry fam members who are allergic, gonna have to take your benadryl lol

Film Festival 2019 Preview: 12 Biggest Movies With Oscar Chances
Tumblr media
From Joker to Jojo Rabbit, check out the most anticipated releases from the fall festival season. As the summer moviegoing season comes to an end and the major glut of blockbusters dries up until Christmas, Hollywood’s focus turns to fall and the endless chaos of awards season.
Typically, the lion’s share of releases that come under this umbrella start in September and run until the end of December, which is the cut-off date for Oscars' qualifications. This year, there are plenty of potential candidates vying for critics’ and audiences’ attention, and most of them will be making their debuts during the major film festivals of the fall season. The four biggest festivals of this period are - in chronological order - Venice, Toronto, Telluride, and New York. These are the festivals you can expect the most hyped-movies of awards season to play at in some capacity, and for good reason.
Related: Disney Won Summer 2019 (& It Wasn’t Even Close)
The past two winners of the Golden Lion, Venice's highest honor, were nominated for or won Best Picture. Nine of the past decade's 10 winners of the Toronto People's Choice Award either won or were nominated for Best Picture, too. The batting average for fall festival season and Oscar success is too good to ignore, so studios jostle for attention amid crowded slates. This year, the stakes seem higher than ever and the offerings more varied and exciting than we’ve seen in a while. Here are some of the most anticipated releases from the major fall film festivals of 2019.
Tumblr media
Once Warner Bros. decided not to take Todd Phillips’s reimagining of the Joker’s origin story to San Diego Comic-Con (along with the rest of their upcoming titles), rumors swirled that it was because they were choosing to submit it to festival season instead. However, even the most optimistic fans could not have predicted just how much hope the studio has in this movie. Not only will Joker make its world premiere playing in competition at the Venice Film Festival, but it will also make its North American debut in Toronto soon after, followed by its New York premiere at NYFF. It’s not uncommon for one movie to play all three festivals but unheard of for a comic book title to do so. Make no mistake: Warner Bros. is hoping to take Joker all the way to the Oscars. This build-up of hype and critical clout is certainly an excellent strategy for doing so, with the film’s star, Joaquin Phoenix, having previously won Best Actor at Venice and set to receive TIFF’s very first Best Actor award next month.
Tumblr media
This will be the first year of Fox Searchlight working under the Disney banner, and critics are eager to see how invested the company is in releasing the kind of esoteric, small-scale, and awards-baity titles that the studio has made their name from. The biggest and possibly most controversial title on their slate in 2019 is Jojo Rabbit. Directed by Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit tells the story of a young German boy during World War 2 who is fiercely dedicated to the Hitler Youth, and how his life changes when he discovers his mother has been hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. He also has an imaginary best friend who is Adolf Hitler, played by Waititi himself. It’s certainly a movie that will incite conversations, and alleged Disney sources have already started talking to the trades about their concerns with such a potentially shocking movie. However, Waititi is a master of tone, who can juggle big laughs with darker emotional beats, and this is the kind of story that only he could make for general audiences. All eyes will be on Jojo Rabbit for its world premiere at TIFF, where Waititi will also receive the festival’s new director award.
Tumblr media
A new Martin Scorsese movie is always a cause for celebration, and The Irishman is a long-time passion project the director has wanted to make for many years now. His first feature film since 2016's Silence - which was a box office disappointment - The Irishman brings together some of Scorsese’s most iconic collaborators, from Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci to editor Thelma Schoonmaker and screenwriter Steven Zaillian. Based on the story of Frank Sheeran, The Irishman follows the life of a mob hitman and his involvement in the Bufalino crime family as well as the role he may have played in the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Not only is it Scorsese's most expensive movie, with a reported budget of $200 million, but it's Netflix's priciest endeavor, too. The streaming service remains a much-contested topic on the festival circuit, but it will be hard for even the biggest skeptics to avoid or dismiss The Irishman as it makes its world premiere at the New York Film Festival.
Tumblr media
Last year, the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, about the life of beloved children’s entertainer Mr. Rogers, was a surprise box office hit. Now, the biopic is here with none other than Tom Hanks, taking on the lofty role of one of the nation’s most popular pop culture figures. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood comes to us courtesy of Marielle Heller, who made waves last year with the Oscar-nominated drama Can You Ever Forgive Me?. Her take on the Mr. Rogers story follows an elderly Fred Rogers as he is being profiled for a magazine piece by a cynical journalist, played by Matthew Rhys. Marielle Heller has a deft and layered approach to biopics that helps her stand out in a saturated field, and the prospect of Hanks playing this universally adored figure is sure to set off many an awards prediction. Expect floods of tears at screenings when A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood premieres at TIFF.

Tumblr media
One of only a handful of titles playing at Venice, Toronto, and New York, Noah Baumbach’s latest drama, Marriage Story, to be released by Netflix, sees him once again returning to deeply personal territory. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson star as a married couple whose coast-to-coast divorce begins to push them to extremes neither could have predicted. Baumbach is no stranger to making movies about divorce. 2005's The Squid and the Whale was a semi-autobiographical exploration of his own parents' split. The buzz around Marriage Story has been especially loud, with praise singled out for both Johansson and Driver, the latter of whom has a very busy year ahead of him between this, The Report (also playing the festival season), and, of course, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Netflix has a full slate this year for awards season, so expect them to push this hard.
Tumblr media
Oscar-winning actress Renée Zellweger was everywhere in the early 2000s but took an extended break in 2010, appearing only sporadically in projects. In 2019, she's attempting a comeback by playing one of the most beloved and recognizable figures in Hollywood: the oft-imitated but never replicated Judy Garland. Judy, directed by British theater director Rupert Goold, will have its world premiere at TIFF in what is sure to be a much-talked-about screening. The story takes place in 1969 when Garland, at the very end of her life, headed to London to perform a series of sell-out shows that were some of her very last concerts. Biopics are a staple of festival season and sure to make an impression with Oscar voters, but Zellweger has a tough job ahead of her with Judy, especially since she seems to be doing all her own singing in the role.
Tumblr media
Writer-director Armando Iannucci is best known for his political satires, from The Death of Stalin to award-winning TV series like Veep and The Thick of It. The Personal History of David Copperfield takes him deep into the Dickensian territory but don't be too quick to write this off as just another historical drama. Dev Patel plays the eponymous protagonist while an all-star cast, including Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Peter Capaldi, Benedict Wong, and Gwendoline Christie, fill out the illustrious ensemble. Making its world premiere at TIFF, with its British premiere to follow at the London Film Festival, David Copperfield was recently picked up for distribution by Fox Searchlight, which signals at least some positive things for the company under Disney’s ownership.
Tumblr media
There are a surprising amount of movies playing at this year’s festival season that are adapted from articles. Hustlers may be the most anticipated of this bunch, if only because of its truly irresistible hook. Based on a piece from New York magazine, Hustlers follows a group of strippers, led by Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez, who decide to take on the rich Wall Street jerks who visit their club every night and fleece them for all they have. Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, with Adam McKay and Will Ferrell on producer duties, Hustlers has a tricky tone to nail. How do you tackle what these women did, acknowledge the Robin Hood-esque fantasy of it, but not romanticize just how dark the truth got? It’s a tough job but the movie also has serious indie breakout potential and it remains depressingly rare to see a film with a female majority cast alongside a woman director. Hustlers will make its world premiere at TIFF.
Tumblr media
Donna Tartt, despite having only written three novels, is one of the most celebrated American authors of her generation, and her third novel, The Goldfinch, won her the Pulitzer Prize. Despite the major impact she has had on literature and pop culture, Hollywood has never dared to adapt one of her meaty and extremely long books until now. Clocking in at over 800 pages, turning The Goldfinch into a movie was always going to be an immense undertaking, and one sure to be highly anticipated by the millions who read it. Directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn) and starring Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, and Sarah Paulson, the drama follows the coming-of-age of a young man who survives a terrorist attack in an art museum and the painting he clings to as a source of hope as his life spirals downwards. Tartt's work has always embraced the Dickensian in its scope and emotional depths, so taking a book this long and condensing it two-and-a-half hours will not be easy. The Goldfinch has its world premiere at TIFF, one week before it opens nationwide on September 13.
Tumblr media
Director James Gray is a critical darling, but his work has struggled to find commercial success in the United States (although he remains extremely popular in Europe, especially France). However, Ad Astra has the potential to break out in a bigger way. Brad Pitt stars in the lead role, following on from a strong summer with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, as an astronaut sent on a life-changing mission. He journeys to the outer edges of the solar system in hopes of finding his father (played by Tommy Lee Jones), a fellow astronaut who mysteriously disappeared many years before. Gray compared the story to Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and noted his desire to make as realistic a depiction of space travel as possible, which is a fascinating direction for him to take with his first foray into science-fiction. The movie has had its release date bumped around a lot this year, which often doesn't signal good news, but with Ad Astra making its world premiere at Venice, the hype remains very much in its favor.
Tumblr media
In-between working on Star Wars movies, director Rian Johnson took some time to make a murder mystery in the vein of Agatha Christie’s work, and he compiled a major all-star cast for his efforts. Knives Out, which will have its world premiere at TIFF, features Daniel Craig, Lakeith Stanfield, Toni Collette, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Christopher Plummer. Plummer plays a legendary crime novelist who is murdered during his birthday party, leading detectives Craig and Stanfield to investigate the case, with every member of the family a suspect. It's always exciting to see what a director who is a key part of a major franchise does in their downtime, and Johnson returning to his love of low-key genre fiction for a re-imagining of a classic set-up is too good to resist. It remains to be seen if Knives Out has awards appeal or will simply be marketed as a fun winter season caper in-between the blockbusters, but whatever the case, it's sure to have audiences intrigued.

It’s safe to say that Christian Bale, regardless of the project, is almost always included in Oscar conversations. Following his latest nomination for Vice, he returns to the biopic genre with James Mangold’s take on one of the most notorious rivalries in motoring history. As the title suggests, Ford v Ferrari takes on the battle between two of the biggest names in cars as they raced at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans competition. Bale and Matt Damon play the driver and engineer brought on to Team Ford to help them defeat the dominant Italians of Ferrari. This is a pricey movie - one with a rumored $97.6 million budget - and a starry cast to match, but it's also now a Disney title that needs to be handled carefully. Will the studio give it the full red carpet treatment following its world premiere at Toronto?

"IRON MAN 2" (2010) Review
Tumblr media
”IRON MAN 2” (2010) Review I must say that I am grateful to Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) showrunner Kevin Feige and the filmmakers of ”IRON MAN 2”.  I am grateful that they only waited two years to make this sequel to the 2008 hit film, “IRON MAN”, instead of three years or more. But even if they had made the movie more than two years after the original film, I believe the movie proved to be worth any wait. Some IRON MAN fans and film critics had expressed the opinion that ”IRON MAN 2” was inferior to the original 2008 movie. I certainly feel differently. I believe that this movie was superior to ”IRON MAN”. Mind you, this new film had a few flaws. One, I was baffled by Tony Stark’s reluctance to join S.H.I.E.L.D. I had assumed after the appearance of the organization’s leader, Nick Fury, in the original film’s Easter egg sequence that he was eager to join. Even Tony’s appearance in 2008’s ”THE INCREDIBLE HULK” seemed to hint this. So what happened? Is it possible that screenwriter Justin Theroux failed to see the last ”HULK” film? One would think so.  It took me another year to discover that “THE INCREDIBLE HULK” is supposed to be set a few days or a few weeks after the events of this film.  Only . . . why?  Why did Feige make this convoluted move with the franchise’s timeline?  I found it so confusing.  The movie’s score, like the 2008 film, sucked.  As much as I was impressed by Matthew Libatique’s cinematography, I must admit that I did not find it as impressive as his photography in the 2008 film. But I will discuss this subject in greater detail, later.  Nor was I that impressed by Tony’s initial behavior toward Natasha Romanoff aka the Black Widow.  I found it slightly sexist and somewhat tacky.  Even Pepper Potts’ snarky response that he would open himself up to a sexual harassment lawsuit could not erase ugly taint that surrounded his comment. ”IRON MAN 2” may not have been perfect; but as I had stated earlier, I believe that it is superior to the first film. Do not get me wrong. I loved ”IRON MAN”. I still do. But in an article I had written about some of the Summer 2008 movies, its plot struck me as simple and a little unoriginal. I cannot say the same about its sequel. Thanks to Theroux and director Jon Farveau, ”IRON MAN 2” focused upon the consequences of Tony Stark becoming and admitting to being Iron Man in the last film. During the six months since the end of the last film, Iron Man’s actions as a superhero has allowed him to maintain world peace. His actions have also attracted the attention of a U.S. Senate committee, led by Senator Stern, who demanded that Tony release the Iron Man technology for military application. Stark refused, claiming his competitors are years away from successfully recreating the technology. But more trouble seemed to plague Tony. The palladium core inside the miniaturized arc reactor that he had created to power his Iron Man armor and prevent the shrapnel from a disastrous Afghanistan trip in the last film from reaching his heart . . . was slowly poisoning his blood system. Foreknowledge of a possible early death led Tony to acts of excessive and dangerous behavior – including re-instituting the Stark Expo first initiated by his father back in the 1970s, appointing his personal assistant Pepper Potts as the new CEO of Stark Industries, in and participating in the Monaco Grand Prix, at the Circuit de Monaco. It is in Monaco where Tony has his first encounter with Ivan Vanko, a Bratva member and Russian physicist who happened to be the son of another physicist and former Stark Industries employee, Anton Vanko, who was fired by Howard Stark and deported back to the Soviet Union. Anton Vanko had also worked on the original plans of the arc reactor with Stark Sr., but the plans remained in the hands of Stark Enterprises. Vanko Sr.’s death at the beginning of the movie sent Ivan into a spiral of grief, leading him to create his own suit containing an arc reactor. Vanko used his new suit to attack Tony at Monaco. The attack attracted the attention of another weapons industrialist named Justin Hammer, an arch-rival of Tony’s. Hammer arranged Vanko’s escape from jail and recruited the Russian physicist to design drones similar to the Iron Man armor for the Stark Expo. Tony also has to deal with the return of S.H.I.E.L.D. in his life. Unbeknownst to him, the organization’s leader, Nick Fury had assigned one of his agents to infiltrate Stark Enterprises to assess Tony as a possible agent. His spy turned out to be Tony and Pepper’s new assistant, Natalie Rushman aka Natasha Romanoff. Although Fury has become reluctant to recruit Tony for membership in S.H.I.E.L.D., he managed to provide vital materials to the industrialist to allow him to develop a safe element for his arc reactor implant that also provides superior power. One would begin to wonder if the screenwriters had dumped one too many plotlines in the movie’s script. Some critics have complained that the movie possessed one too many villains. I would disagree. ”IRON MAN 2” simply had a complex plot that did not – in my opinion – struck me as difficult to follow. In fact, I believe that the plot’s complexity allowed the movie to be superior to the 2008 film. As for the number of villains, there were two – Ivan Vanko and Justin Hammer. ”IRON MAN” also had two villains. Robert Downey Jr. reprised his role as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. I am trying to think of something to say about his performance. But what is there to say? He was magnificent as always by skillfully portraying every aspect of Tony’s personality – both the good and the bad. Yes, Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was a charming, caring, brilliant and strong-willed man. But he was also narcissist, egotistical, and somewhat self-centered. This is a man who used his Iron Man technology to bring about world peace, instead of using it for personal gain and who had enough trust in his personal assistant to name her as the new CEO of his company. Yet, this same man resorted to alcohol to escape from his demons and was thoughtless enough to give his new CEO strawberries as a gift – completely forgetting that she is allergic to the fruit. Downey Jr.’s performance as Stark seemed to be among the best comic book hero portrayals I have ever seen on the silver screen . . . back in 2010. In one of the last scenes in ”IRON MAN”, Tony said the following to his personal assistant, Virginia “Pepper” Potts: ”You know, if I were Iron Man, I'd have this girlfriend who knew my true identity. She'd be a wreck, 'cause she'd always be worrying that I was going to die, yet so proud of the man I'd become. She'd be wildly conflicted, which would only make her more crazy about me.” In ”IRON MAN 2” Pepper certainly discovered how stressful her life could be as the object of affection (or desire) of a celebrated costumed hero. Gwyneth Paltrow returned to the role of Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s personal assistant-turned-new CEO of Stark Industries. And I have to say that the actress did a skillful job of conveying the stress and anxiety that threatened to overwhelm her character. One of my favorite scenes featured a moment when Pepper’s emotions finally overwhelmed her, as she tendered her resignation in an angry tirade. As everyone knows, Marvel Entertainment had decided to replace Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle for the role of Tony’s best friend, Lieutenant-Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes U.S.A.F. I will not discuss the circumstances that led Cheadle to replace Howard. I will say that Cheadle gave a top notch performance as Rhodey. Do I consider him to be a better choice than Howard? No. I would say that the quality of both actors’ performances struck me as equal. Not that I find that surprising. Both Cheadle and Howard are excellent actors with a strong screen presence. I did notice that Cheadle’s sense of humor never had the opportunity to flourish, until the movie’s final scenes. And his screen chemistry with Downey Jr. did not seem as strong as the Downey Jr./Howard pairing. But he certainly did not disappoint. I must confess that I have only seen Mickey Rourke in three other movies, besides ”IRON MAN 2”. Aside from his award winning performance in ”THE WRESTLER”, I was never that impressed by him. When I had learned that he would be cast as the main villain, Ivan Vanko, I had qualms about Jon Farveau and Marvel’s decision. In the end, I found myself very impressed by his performance. He managed to portray a menacing, yet emotional personality in a suitably low-key manner. However, I could barely understand some of his lines through the thick Russian accent. It is a major pity that Marvel/Disney did not keep him around.  Sam Rockwell was as volatile as Rourke was low key. And surprisingly, his volatile performance perfectly suited his character, Tony Stark’s fellow defense contractor – Justin Hammer. What I especially enjoyed about Rockwell’s performance was his ability to inject a raging inferiority complex underneath the gregarious personality. Scarlett Johanssen had the opportunity to strut her stuff as Natalie Rushman aka Natasha Romanoff aka the Black Widow, Pepper’s new assistant and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. I must admit there were times I wondered if Johanssen’s character had a personality. It finally dawned on me that she simply possessed a no-nonsense persona that could kick ass.
Tumblr media
Director Jon Farveau returned as Tony’s bodyguard and chauffeur, Happy Hogan. Thankfully, he got to do a lot more in ”IRON MAN 2”, which included coming to Tony’s rescue with the Iron Man suit during Vanko’s attack during the Monaco Grand Prix, and assisting (somewhat) Natasha during the latter’s breach at Hammer Industries. Samuel L. Jackson’s role as head of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury, was increased in this second film. And all I can say is . . . thank goodness! I really enjoyed his strong screen presence and lively conversations with Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. I got the feeling that the two actors really enjoyed working with one another (unless I happened to be wrong). Clark Gregg returned in the role of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson. Not only was he his usual quiet and assuming self, but also deliciously snarky. John Sterling of ”MAD MEN” made an appearance as Tony’s father, the late Howard Stark, in old film clips viewed by Tony. Slattery’s Howard Stark struck me as lively and witty as Downey Jr.’s Tony. His performance made it easy for me to see the genesis of Tony’s own personality. And the late Gary Shandling tossed aside his usual comic persona to convincingly portray U.S. Senator Stern, a determined politician who wants the Iron Man armor in government hands. However, he was allowed a rather snarky and very subtle joke in the film's last scene. As I had stated earlier, I was not that impressed by Matthew Libatique’s cinematography in ”IRON MAN 2”. Mind you, I did not find it terrible or a travesty to the art of motion pictures. But I cannot recall viewing any fantastic airborne sequences that were featured in ”IRON MAN”. Aside from Rhodey’s arrival at the Edwards Air Force Base in the War Machine armor, the movie did not feature any daytime aerial scenes, just slightly confusing night time sequences near the beginning and the end of the film. But, as I will point out later, there was one exception. However, I found most of the film’s action sequences very exciting – especially Vanko’s attack upon Tony in Monaco; the birthday brawl between Tony and Rhodey in the Iron Man and War Machine suits; Natasha’s fight against Hammer’s security guards; and the aerial chase sequence over the Stark Expo between Iron Man and the Vanko-controlled War Machine. I must be one of the few who, to this day, still regard “IRON MAN 2″ as better than the original 2008 film.  I also regard it as one of the better films of 2010, despite its few flaws.  It would also proved to be the second to the last time in which I would truly enjoy Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

How was film marketed
At the 2015 Licensing International Expo, Disney Consumer Products announced that they would partner with licensees including Hasbro, Lego, Funko, Hot Wheels, Rubies, Mad Engine, C-Life, Jay Franco, Global Brand Group, Kellogg's, Hallmark and American Greetings to sell merchandise related to the film; Coca-Cola, Google, Samsung, Wrigley, Harley Davidson, Audi, Synchrony Financial, Pringles, Keebler, Pizza Hut, Pop Secret, Mouser Electronics, and Vivo, among other brands, were also licensees for the film.
Naturally, this was never a movie that wasn't going to do well, but the speed with which it's climbing toward that billion dollar mark is a testament to not only the great product, but the marketing campaign, as well. The tie-in promotions and brand partnerships have amounted to roughly $200 million, with over 100 companies worldwide partnering with the film and offering product tie-ins.The best thing Marvel's PR and marketing has going for it is the cast members themselves - they're all great on the publicity tours, comfortable with one another and in front of the camera, and have endeared themselves to fans as much as the characters they play.
Pizza Hut has debuted collectible boxes that allow people to share their allegiance to either Cap or Iron Man with their pizza orders, while cereal and potato chip lovers can look for an exclusive VR experience that will accompany their purchase of participating Kellogg's, Pringle and Keebler products. Limited-edition Pop Secret popcorn bags feature printed comic panels with Avengers characters. Ahead of the film's release, there will be a large digital push with campaign told across Google, YouTube and Twitter, which will culminate in a massive online vote: Team Captain America vs. Team Iron Man. The marketing effort has also lined up the smartphone brand Vivo for a blitz across China and Thailand that includes TV, print, digital and out-of-home advertising.

Review: Sing (2016)
Tumblr media
Sing (2016, USA) Directed by Garth Jennings, Christophe Lourdelet | Starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth McFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly Rated PG | Available on Blu-ray/DVD, VOD
It’s hard to deny that 2016 was simply an amazing year for animated film. That much is evidenced by the fact that animation powerhouse and Oscar-hog Pixar released a perfectly fine film that was not nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (although to be fair, sister studio Disney Animation Studios had two films that picked up nominations last year). Also not nominated were both of Illumination Entertainment’s 2016 efforts, The Secret Life of Pets and, perhaps more surprisingly, Sing, which, having secured a Christmas release, was clearly intended as an awards candidate for the studio. Despite what some may consider an Oscar snub, however, Sing holds its own amongst the very strong animated field from last year, delivering glimpses of adult wit, a loaded voice cast, and a fantastic soundtrack, all of which adds up to a fun experience for viewers of all ages.
As the title suggests, Sing is a musical that focuses on a singing contest created by businessman Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) in an effort to save his failing theatre from being foreclosed on. From the hundreds of hopefuls who audition for the show, only a handful are chosen: Rosita and Gunter (Reese Witherspoon, Nick Kroll), two pigs from two very different walks of life who Moon pairs together; Johnny (Taron Egerton), a gorilla who longs to break away from his troubled family; Ash (Scarlett Johansson), a punk rock porcupine who must choose between her shot at fame and her jealous, egotistical boyfriend, Mike (Seth McFarlane), a jazzy conman who gets mixed up with the wrong crowd; and Meena (Tori Kelly), a shy elephant with a voice made for stardom. When it becomes apparent that Moon doesn’t have the cash to support his promised prize, however, all of the contestants must set their personal lives aside and work together to save the once-great theatre they’ve all grown to love.
Sing marks a turning point of sorts for Illumination, which has primarily specialized in kid-targeted animated films that don’t have much value for older audiences (they are, after all, who we all have to thank for those infernal Minions, as well as the watered-down adaptation of The Lorax). With Sing, however, the studio has crafted a story that can appeal to a much wider audience: there are some jokes that may go over the heads of little ones and themes that can relate to older audiences (not to mention the soundtrack, which is comprised of mostly classic tunes), but the talking animals, bright and colorful animation, sight gags, and upbeat music will keep most kids entertained throughout the film, as well. Because of this, Sing is arguably the first Illumination film that families can sit down and watch together and everybody can be entertained. In an industry where Disney and Pixar are dominating with animated films targeted at all ages, this is an area in which Illumination has to continue to improve because, as Dreamworks found out for themselves, milking one mascot franchise for all it’s worth will only get you so far. In that respect, Sing is a major win for both Illumination and audiences alike.
For all its successes in other areas, though, the obvious cornerstone of Sing is its soundtrack, which is possibly the best soundtrack to an animated film since the first Shrek film. Featuring artists as varied and renown as Stevie Wonder, The Spencer Davis Group, The Zombies, Fred Astaire, Bananarama, Gipsy Kings, Leonard Cohen, Queen and David Bowie, Taylor Swift, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and The Beatles, the film boasts an eclectic and impressive range of songs. but what stands out perhaps even more is how well they are sung by the film’s main voice cast. It’s an open secret that Seth McFarlane is an accomplished jazz singer, and Tori Kelly is well-known for her stunning voice, but the songs that are sung by Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, and (most impressively) Taron Egerton will likely surprise many viewers. To top it all off, Jennifer Hudson provides an incredible cover of The Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight” that serves as an audio motif tying the film together. Fans of all genres and eras of music will likely find something to love about this soundtrack.
If there is a reason why Sing underperformed during awards season, however, it would be because the story, while fine for an animated musical film, lacks the depth and nuance of some of the other films that were nominated for the Oscar not just last year, but in years past. It’s a fairly straight-forward, familiar tale, and when compared to the philosophical undertones present in nominees like Zootopia, Moana, and Kubo and the Two Strings, it seems somewhat simplistic in comparison. While Sing is a big step forward for Illumination, they still have a few more steps to take before they are able to compete with the other studios for critical acclaim.
Still, there’s a lot to like about this movie. This isn’t just another offering designed to hold kids over until the next Minions movie comes out; Sing is a film that stands on its own merits and is Illumination’s best film to date. It would be nice to see the studio take that extra little step to compete with the likes of Disney and Pixar, and maybe someday they’ll get there. But until then, movies like Sing are more than good enough to at least include in the conversation.
