20 Questions for Fic Writers
tagged by @lostcol
How many works do you have on ao3? 70
What's your total ao3 word count? 704,657
What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Queer as Folk, Schitt's Creek, and Teen Wolf. In the past, I have written for Shameless, Good Omens, Our Flag Means Death, Dead Poets Society, and Maze Runner.
Top five fics by kudos: I Can Be Your Hero (Teen Wolf, Sterek), To Me, You Are Perfect (Teen Wolf, Sterek), Mend My Heart (Teen Wolf, Sterek), Trying To Make Sense Out Of This Confusion (Schitt's Creek, David/Patrick), and Mother Knows Best (Schitt's Creek, David/Patrick)
Do you respond to comments? I try my best to reply to every comment I receive, but sometimes, it can be overwhelming, so it takes me a few months to get back.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? If we are going back to my fanfiction dot net days, there is a fic I wrote there that was post-major character death within the As The World Turns fandom. That fic, Never Alone, was about Noah dealing with the death of Luke.
However, on AO3, the fic with the angstiest ending has to be my David/Patrick, Schitt's Creek fic, where Patrick is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. It doesn't have a happy ending due to the nature of the disease. (Weep Not For the Memories)
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? For the most part, my fics are angst with a happy ending, but I think the one with the biggest payoff is actually a tie between two different fandoms. The first that comes to mind is Everything That I Am, which is David/Patrick from Schitt's Creek and covers both of them recovering from a major car accident. The other is On The Page of History, which is Sterek from Teen Wolf and covers Stiles being a teacher at a school experiencing a school shooting, and Derek is a deputy on call to respond.
Do you get hate on fics? Yes. When I wrote Patrick Brewer as asexual for a few fics, fans in a certain social media group were extremely nasty toward me and then stalked me to other platforms to continue their vitriol. It broke my inspiration to write any kind of fan fiction for a while.
Do you write smut? No. I don't even try. I usually do fade to black/illusions.
Craziest crossover: Going back to my fanfiction dot net days, I did a crossover where a gay character from As The World Turns (Luke Snyder) and a gay character from Days of Our Lives (Will Horton) ended up at the same bar one night and got drunk together. It was called A Night They Won't Remember.
For AO3, my craziest one was one where I had Thomas from Maze Runner and Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf run into each other on the beach. Seeing Double was just me poking fun at two roles by the same actor.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but I would love for that to happen someday.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? YES! My best friend, Karyn, and I met through a Teen Wolf convention almost a decade ago. We then decided to write a fic together where the POV changed from chapter to chapter. It was called Objects in the rear view mirror (May appear closer than they are) and centered on Sterek as parents of twin boys. It was unfortunately never finished because of medical issues on her part, but maybe someday we will go back to it.
All time favorite ship? If you look at AO3 it would seem the answer is David/Patrick from Schitt's Creek. And while I do love them, my favorite of all time is actually a tie between Sterek (Stiles Stilinski/Derek Hale, Teen Wolf) and Britin (Brian Kinney/Justin Taylor, Queer as Folk).
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Right before I received a lot of hate within the Schitt's Creek fandom, I started a fic called Every Thunder That Came Was One More I Might Not Get Through. It centered on Patrick being an adopted child with past abuse trauma and David being a young man who witnessed a death in his early 20s. Both meet online and strike up a bond, only to find out that they are actually in the same therapy group IRL. Unfortunately, I only got through the introductory/story-building chapters before I lost all inspiration for Schitt's Creek fics.
What are your writing strengths? Introspection and dialogue are pretty evenly matched. Most of my fics are heavy on one or the other or a combo of both.
What are your writing weaknesses? Smut/Sex. I don't write it because every time I've tried, it comes out sounding extremely cheesy.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I have used a line or two in different languages (I once wrote a Days of Our Lives, WilSon fic set in Italy), but I always make sure to have the translations in the notes at the end of each installment/fic.
First fandom you wrote in? The first fandom I wrote in was As The World Turns (Luke/Noah or Nuke)
Favorite fic you've written? I can't decide just one, so I will tell you my favorite one I've written from my biggest fandoms.
Queer As Folk: There's Beauty When It's Bleak
Schitt's Creek: Trying To Make Sense Out Of This Confusion, which is linked above, so instead, I'll pick my next favorite, Waves Crash With Anxiety.
Teen Wolf: Return to Beacon Hills
Shameless: Inquiring Minds
Tagging: @winderlylandchime @thotpuppy @vulcanscully and any other writers who see this and want to do it!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
I got tagged by the delightful @mirrorthoughts 💜💜💜 Thank you for the tag!
How many works do you have on ao3?
13 at the moment
What's your total ao3 word count?
218,148 words (mostly thanks to one very long fic, lol)
What fandoms do you write for?
Currently Teen Wolf and 9-1-1. I am noodling a few ideas for Stranger Things. I've also written Buffy the Vampire Slayer stuff, mostly crossovers in the past, but haven't gotten around to importing them to ao3. They can be found on Twisting the Hellmouth under the same user name as ao3 (vMures)
Top five fics by kudos:
Hanging On (You're All That's Left to Hold On To)
A Hallowed Pack
A Change of Luck
A Merry War
Finding Home
All Teen Wolf fics, mostly Steter with one Sterek fic in the mix. 😄
Do you respond to comments?
I certainly always try to.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm a happily ever after sort of writer generally, so none of my fics have very angsty endings. Just not the sort of thing I tend to write.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
They all have happy endings so far. Not sure I could pick which one has the happiest ending.
Do you get hate on fics?
Not usually, at least not on ao3. Worst comments I've gotten have been on fanfiction.net and I have been ignoring those for decades at this point. I think I don't get much hate on ao3 in large part because I don't allow anonymous comments on my work and people are less likely to leave hate comments when they have to do it with their official account. I've gotten a few odd comments, some weird nitpicky ones, and some demanding ones from time to time. I always try to respond politely to those, but sometimes get a bit snarky.
Do you write smut?
Not as of yet. But I may some day try my hand at it. No promises though. lol
Craziest crossover:
I once wrote a crossover between Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, and X-Men (it can be found on Twisting the Hellmouth).
On ao3, my only crossover so far is a Teen Wolf/Harry Potter crossover: A Hallowed Pack
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Someone just asked if they could translate Midnight Rain into Russian, so that will be my first fic translated into another language.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not really
All time favourite ship?
Cannot pick favorites for the life of me. In Teen Wolf, I love Steter, Sterek, Stetopher, Stargent, Steterek, Dargent, Detergent (Derek/Chris/Peter), and so many more combinations of my favorite characters. lol Stranger Things I read mostly Steddie and Ronance, but am open to quite a few other pairings.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Yep, my one unfinished WIP Buffy/Stargate crossover, The Road Not Taken. After a decade of agonizing over whether or not to mark it abandoned and give myself grace for not finishing it, I finally did so. Part of me still would love to finish it, but I lost the notes I had on it and doubt I'll ever find the desire to rebuild the story and figure out where I had wanted it to go.
What are your writing strengths?
I'm pretty good at writing natural sounding dialogue and proud of that fact.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I have been called a wordy bitch or told my writing is very dense. So that could be considered a weakness. Otherwise, I'd say writing action scenes and making sure the actions make sense and flow properly.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
As long as there's a translation somewhere, I don't mind. Sometimes it is effective to include.
First fandom you wrote in?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Favorite fic you've written?
Oh man, this is a particularly hard question. I love A Merry War a lot, but ultimately my absolute favorite so far is Hanging On (You're All That's Left to Hold On To). That fic is my baby. Took me two years to finish and I poured a lot of my heart and soul into it.
Once again I've hit the tagging portion of the tag game and drawn an absolute blank on who to tag. So consider yourself tagged if you want to play along! 💜💜💜

20 Author Questions:
Tagged by @weemssapphic ; thank you darling! What a treat ^^
How many works do you have on Ao3?
Combined with both accounts? 12.
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
134,494 in total.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Gwendoline Christie characters; Resident Evil 8: Village; The Devil Wears Prada.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Fridays Are Her Least Favorite Days
Coping with Larissa Weems As Your Boss: A Guide For Lesbians
It Was A Wicked Thought
She Was Everything
How To Love A Creature So Unlike You
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
No. Not because I don't care, but because I don't want my comments to be mixed up with theirs - and I take all of them to heart. I read them all and I read them all a million times. Just because I don't respond doesn't mean I don't appreciate; and there's only so many ways to say thank you. I feel the need, every time, to one-up myself. So.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
LOVING YOU IS BEAUTIFUL: - I think this one, honestly? It leaves me with such a sense of dread and loss of hope at the end. I don't know why.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
The Sweet Silver-Lining of Miranda Priestly - It's full of hope. A very ambiguous ending. This oneshot made me feel very happy while writing it - which is not something I feel often while writing. So that was a nice change of pace.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No. And I don't deserve hate. ;P
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. I don't consider myself to be very good at it though. And I always write wlw. G!P and kink is usually included too because I cannot get enough.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No, aside from the Alcina and Larissa one I just did.
11. Have you ever had a fiction stolen?
No. And I hope it never happens.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
One or two people have offered/asked, and I've given permission, but could never find the sites in which they reposted and translated them to. So..
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. Had plans but never went through with them.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I love x reader ships, but in other media... probably Linda Martin x Mazikeen from Lucifer.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
There's too many to count.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think my best writing quality is the fact that it comes so easily to me. It's just who I am. My flow, my ability to convey and stir emotion, my descriptions of love.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I make promises that I won't keep. I am shit at dialogue. I overexplain or underexplain. I am rarely satisfied with what I create.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
The only language I utilize/add is Romanian. I use it quite often in Lady Dimitrescu fics and it often strengthens the appeal and mood of the moment.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
SwanQueen; Once Upon A Time.
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
I do enjoy the cannibal Larissa Weems series.
As well as The Sweet Silver-Lining of Miranda Priestly
(Cock)y is also good. Hehe.

Thank you for the tag again! ^^ - Rip x

Hey there, how can I find someone willing beta read this fic im writing? It’s a stucky abo AU.
A couple of ways!
You can post on tumblr, saying what you’re looking for. You can join a discord server of authors/creators. If you’ve already started posting it, you can ask in the notes (also, there’s nothing to say you can’t go back and edit existing chapters).
Joining and contributing to an exisiting community is the easiest, but if you have trouble approaching groups (like I do) then start with asking your friends 🤷‍♀️

20 Questions For Fic Writers
@somanywords Helloooooo friend always lovely to be tagged in these games!
Tumblr media
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
18!
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
554,942
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Marvel, mainly Stucky
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
(all Stucky) Plastered (59,379 words) Monoclonius (62,000 words) Unpredictable Synchronicity (114,239 words) A Climb of Passion (32,666 words) Tension and Tonic (78,978 words)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I'm chatty so it's easy for me, most of the time. Sometimes I just do little emojis. I know it stresses some writers out which is fair, but I like it, so I do it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't really do angsty endings, but I guess Manpain Spiral of Solitude, which in fairness I do think the title warns properly that there might be angst. :)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
They are all doopy and happy but Backhoe maybe? Honestly, they are all so cheesy. Sometimes I am hard on myself like, "This fanfiction I'm writing is not esoteric or high brow or relentlessly grim at all" and then have to slap myself around. There's nothing wrong with happiness.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really, though I have a few where the characters make particularly unimpressive decisions and those get some borderline negative comments, but most of my stuff is like, aggressively pleasing and my comments range from polite and supportive to deliriously charming.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh yes. The cheesy schmoopy kind full of yearning and feelings and lots of consent. I do like a sex scene where someone is a bit insecure or inexperienced, and their partner is like, "But I like you for you" and they communicate about their feelings and wants and then they are all more confident at their sex stuff, because, look, I'm a simple person with simple pleasures.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I keep threatening to do a Lord of the Rings / MCU-All the Avengers Live in the Tower Crossover and somewhere I have some notes about it. Bucky is VERY jealous of Aragorn, who keeps throwing looks at Steve, even more so when he realizes how jealous it makes Bucky. Natasha and Gimli get along very well and then Legolas is jealous of Natasha, so Legolas and Bucky end up sulking in the corner.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Dunno!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Podficced! But not translated
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, though I love collaborating with people via beta-ing each other's fics
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
I mean, yanno. Stucky.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't want to say never. My Magic AU is going to be a long term thing. I don't want to give up on it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue, and jokes, I think. I like writing kids.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Probably like, clarity of thought, consistency of voice. I re-read my shit and dear god, my adhd is so bad y'all. Particularly my one fic Tension and Tonic which is the only one I didn't have an outside beta spend literally hours making me sound comprehensible and it's really kind of embarrassing. I spend a lot of time trimming down and re-arranging to try and make it comprehensible, and then after like 6 edits, someone else looks at it and immediately points out 9500 places for improvement and then I have like 3 more people look at it. I think it's a double edged sword because the adhd helps me quickly come up with ideas but then a lot of the ideas need to be removed or re-arranged. I don't necessarily mind editing and re-editing, but it's a thing. Also my fight scenes could be better, and I am working on getting better at plot.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I enjoy it. I tend to look at reddit or other forums where native speakers are coming up with phrases they use to try for authenticity. I love dropping in what I hope will be little Easter Egg hugs for people of whatever background. Recently I worked with a graphic designer to add in some super wonky dialog and I hope it makes another graphic designer out there somewhere smile and feel seen.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Well, if we're going in the way-back time machine, I really liked Star Wars, in particular, the novels, in particular, the witch planet where all the babe-witches rode rancors. I wrote some fanfiction in early high school about them. Also Mara Jade, binches, fucking MARA JADE. She was like my first Bucky. So tragic, so sexy, so brainwashed, so competent.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Oh it always changes. I'm actually pretty into the shrinkiclinks I'm working on right now which is kind of a spy thriller but also very cutesy and mundane. Monoclonius I think is my happiest, easiest to read fic? So maybe that one.
Tumblr media
I'm leaving your tags @somanywords because I love peer pressure.
No pressure tags for any writers who see this, and also @turtle-steverogers @hipsterdiva @tessabennet @voylitscope @greyhavensking @t4tstevebucky and anyone else who writes and wants to share!

hii!! if you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Hi! So nice to meet you! 💕
Hm, what a good question…
I was very lucky, when I first started writing. I had someone who told me how to think. Things like “tell me, what are you doing between getting of your horse and sitting down at the fireplace”. Things like “how do you know the name if they never told you?”.
This guy was pure gold, to be honest. I never could have learned more than in the times where I started writing roleplay games.
I guess, thinking back and imagining writing without meeting him… I think, I would tell young me all those things he told me. I would annoy me to death with dumb questions and constant reminders that no, in fact, you don’t know how to use a bow if you never learned.
So, I wouldn’t say anything to me. I don’t know what else I needed to hear at that time. Maybe, that the writing advice you read online is for editing and not drafting. But I guess, everything else was already said to me by a good friend.
Wow, that went deeper than expected xD I’m sorry for the melancholy here xD but I hope I answered your question good enough xD
{Still miss him though…}

More Fic Writer Asks
(Using it for original works and fanfics, since OP said that's okay)
the last sentence you wrote "Raising his hands in surrender, Gunther said, 'Take me to Arthur.' " - Heroically Foul
a character whose POV you’re currently exploring "And so he was loved because he was good at operating the kingdom, but only we know his black heart and dark ambitions." - Preservation of Those Three: Tybalt Arthur Verrell
how you feel about your current WIP Confidant. I feel like I'll get this done in a year or two, and well. There'll need to be rewrites and edits, but not much. Excited to put my thoughts down and share it with the world.
a story idea you haven’t written yet What if Romeo left Juliet, and she decided to marry Paris, and discovered he isn't all that bad after all?
first sentence of the fifth paragraph of an unpublished WIP "But how to get to him?" - A Dream, a Heroically Foul side story
the word that appears the most in your current draft (wordcounter.net can tell you) More, been, and one. Not very interesting, but then again, I just barely began.
your preferred writing fonts Lobster for titles; Bad Script for chapter titles; Architect's Daughter for narration.
if you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for… Help, video game fandom Aragami 2. it's a very in-depth and detailed version of one of the quests in the game where you play the main character, Kuro, or Warrior, going mad with anger and the desire for revenge - but you have lots of freedom. I took away that feeling of freedom, to show that he was doing what he was doing automatically, out of obligation, rather than because he really wanted to. I would write a sequel and even prequel cuz the game has great moments that would be great if narrated.
start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted? A little under a week, I believe.
what is the longest amount of time you’ve let a draft rest before you finished it? Years. Let's leave it at that, yeah?
a WIP you’d like to finish someday Previously called My Lord, now renamed A World of Shadows, and more names pending, the fic is for the fandom, The Saga of Darren Shan/Cirque Du Freak, by tween Master of Horror Darren Shan. In the original book, two sides are fighting a war, and the fate of both sides lie with the main character, Darren Shan(has the same name as the author), and his friend, Steve "Leopard" Leonard. Darren, warned that his victory would eventually cause him to stray from righteousness in arrogance, sacrifices himself to kill Steve. In my fic, he kills only Steve - not himself. It explores Steve's mentor, Gannen Harst, as he tries to deal with his friend's death, his allegiance, losing the war, and his own brother - all while Darren slowly begins to lose himself to the dark side.
a trope you’re really into right now Medieval power struggle. Yes, I know. I told my sister just the day before writing this, "They're annoying in real life, but..." and then realised that isn't true. Sure, they can be annoying, but they interest me. Look into the morality/psychology, especially when there's sour kings who've gotten the wrong hand and are right but also wrong.
a fandom you’re thinking about writing for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The lore is vast and endless, and in a story where the main character's personality doesn't already exist yet they aren't just a blank-looking person and there's space to build a unique personality for them and act on it, there's lots of space for a fanfic.
where do you get your inspiration? Everything - literally.
favorite weather for writing Spring weather - it's ample time to sit down and write, but the weather itself is lovely. The birds are chirping in the sky, and sometimes they swoop down for a few seconds to grace you with the sight of their feathers; the ocean waves(I especially would love to write by the waves) crash against the rocks and sometimes splash on your face - but that's okay, because it feels good, and the bright, warm sun dries your book - and the sounds of nature helps you think.
favorite place to write I'm generally not allowed to sit and write when we're out and about, so on my desk. There's the most privacy, and I've written there so much that there's a vibe.
talk about your writing and editing process It changes over time and depending on which story it is and what type of story it is. I write fanfics between my originals - in school, between chapters, during writer's block for a specific story - and for originals, I write them every chance I can. I write down ideas for them whenever I can and have the notes stored away. When the time comes, I take out the notes and pour over them, changing them according to what I believe should be different and so on... I write down most of the events(then gradually all of them) and write them out of order(choosing from writing prompts), then put them together and read them in order. Then I edit them in order.
if you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic I don't keep them, though it would be cool to be able to look back at it. I sort of keep originals, but I haven't published any yet.
the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic Prison. In my fanfic, Timeline, the main character goes to jail and rots away there until the end of his life.
in what year did you publish your first fic? 2021
when did you publish your most recent fic? 6 Jan 2024
do you ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? how do you get past that? Sometimes I worry, sometimes I don't. I write for myself. I got upset by some hateful comments once upon a time, and told my sister about it after following the criticism that they were saying, and she told me that they were wrong, and that they were only being hateful. I realise that since then, if the comment isn't nice, I block the comment and decide whether I'll adhere to it or not. I'm not a popular writer so I barely get comments and/or kudos, but when I do, it strengthens my resolve to be a great writer, but I don't let it affect me beyond that.
pick three keywords that describe your writing Messy but Organised
how do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative? Organise notes. Read stuff. Play games. Do anything but be creative.
besides writing, what are your other hobbies? Reading novels and non-fiction. Playing games.
are you able to write with other people around? No. I don't know why. but the words fly away from me.
your favorite part of the writing process When everything's clicking together and my creative drive is never-ending and I get into flow.
your least favorite part of the writing process When the creativity dries up.
how easy is it for you to come up with titles? Not easy at all. I do it as I go along, but usually I get the right one when I'm done writing it.
share a fic you’re especially proud of Talk, for the novel series The Demonata by Darren Shan. It was inspired by Zukos_Honour and it's simple, to the point and savours the slowburn-one shot feels.
