Let me tell you about John “Foul-Weather Jack” Byron, Captain James Cook, a doctor named James Lind, and also a different doctor named James Lind, and how they all knew each other, helped to cure scurvy, and inadvertently helped to inspire Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein (1818) and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897) -- a long-winded history ramble
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John Byron next to a first edition copy of Frankenstein.
John joined the Royal Navy at 14 and by the ripe old age of 17 had proved himself by surviving a deadly shipwreck off the coast of Chile. The voyage was part of George Anson's famous circumnavigation of the globe done to seize Spanish ships. Only 188 men of the original 1,854 crew members survived; several, including Byron, were taken as prisoners by the Spanish. Recollections of the voyage were sensationalized and it was depicted in stories like William Cowper’s poem The Castaway. John Byron published his own successful memoir, The Narrative of the Honourable John Byron (1768).
The novel's full title deserves attention for it's 18th century pre-Byronic melodrama: "The Narrative of the Honourable John Byron (Commodore in a Late Expedition Around the World) Containing an Account of the Great Distresses suffered by Himself and his Companions on the Coast of Patagonia from the Year 1740, till their Arrival in England, 1746. With a Description of St. Jago de Chili, and the Manners and Customs of the Inhabitants. Also a Relation of the Loss of the Wager Man of War, one of Admiral Anson's Squadron." I can only imagine that had his grandson Lord Byron's memoirs been published instead of burned, their title would have borrowed from his grandfather's by including something similar to "Containing an Account of the Great Distresses suffered by Himself . . ." but I digress.
I do not digress. The beginning of his preface opens with this gem (I've swapped the 18th-century "long s" for a regular one):
"But here I must say, I have been dubious of the partiality of my friends; and, as I think, justly fearful lest the world in general, who may perhaps find compassion and indulgence for a protracted tale of distress, may not give the same allowance to a luxurious imagination triumphing in a change of fortune, and sudden transition from the most dismal to the gayest scenes in the universe, and thereby indulging an egotism equally offensive to the envious and censorious."
Which brings to mind Francis Cohen's criticism of Lord Byron's Don Juan: “Lord B. should have been grave & gay by turns; grave in one page & gay in the next; grave in one line, & gay in the next. And not grave & gay in the same page, or in the same stanza, or in the same line… we are never drenched & scorched at the same instant whilst standing in one spot" (letter to John Murray, 16 July, 1819). And (not the most entertaining part, but to keep things brief) part of Byron's retort: "I will answer [Cohen] who objects to the quick succession of fun and gravity — as if in that case the gravity did not (in intention at least) heighten the fun. His metaphor is that ‘we are never scorched and drenched at the same time!' Blessings on his experience!" (letter to John Murray, 12 August, 1819).
John went on to be considered one of the greatest naval commanders of his era, commanding several ships as captain during the Seven Years’ War and beating the French as leader in the Battle of Restigouche. He later set the record for fastest global circumnavigation at the time while commodore, became a notable explorer, became a commander at multiple Royal Navy stations, and was appointed Governor of Newfoundland in Canada for three years. According to Wikipedia, “his actions nearly caused a war between Great Britain and Spain.”
It seems like he basically just did whatever the hell he wanted. We can see that the apple really doesn't fall too far from the tree. Everyone in the Byron family was kind of crazy. See: psychologist Kay Jamison's Touched By Fire, a novel on the mental illness of famous writers, half of which is focused on Lord Byron (as it should be) and includes an extensive psychological analysis of his whole family tree, which in a short summary brings me back to my previous point: everyone in the Byron family was kind of crazy.
John's health declined after sustaining storm-induced injuries and an unsuccessful attack against the French at the Battle of Grenada. He died at 62 with six living children. His grandson, the poet Lord Byron, borrowed inspiration from John's life and the shipwreck descriptions in his memoir while he was writing the shipwreck sequence in his magnum opus Don Juan.
In an epistle to his half-sister (Epistle to Augusta) Byron mentions their grandfather thus:
"A strange doom is thy father's son's, and past / Recalling, as it lies beyond redress; / Revers'd for him our grandsire's fate of yore— / He had no rest at sea, nor I on shore. / If my inheritance of storms hath been / In other elements, and on the rocks / Of perils, overlook'd or unforeseen, / I have sustain'd my share of worldly shocks, / The fault was mine; nor do I seek to screen / My errors with defensive paradox; / I have been cunning in mine overthrow, / The careful pilot of my proper woe."
On to the Scottish doctor James Lind! He's important because he developed the theory that citrus fruits treated scurvy, and in attempting to prove so he conducted the world's first ever official clinical trial. In his tests, he used the survivors from this famous shipwreck. This likely included Byron himself, being one of the few survivors and having reported the healing effects of citrus in restoring men who were on the verge of death. Needless to say, the discoveries and implications of Lind's clinical trial had an unprecedented impact on the fields of nutrition and medicine, and all of history, particularly in the Caribbean. In 1753 he published his Treatise on Scurvy.
Lind's theories on scurvy influenced the famous Captain James Cook, who implemented these ideas and proved their efficiency by how few men he lost to scurvy compared with every other Captain at the time. When Cook circumnavigated the world on his first voyage, no one died of scurvy. This didn't help with malaria and dysentery, which nearly wiped out his whole crew at one point on a journey to Indonesia. Aside from Anson's shipwreck, Cook's voyages were the other major instance of what I would call "social experiments at sea, or, fuck around and find out: scurvy edition" which led to the development of scurvy research.
As an aside, there is a famous town in Australia named Byron Bay. That town was named by Captain Cook in 1770 as a tribute to John Byron. Cook was sailing around on the HMS Endeavour doing even crazier colonial shit, and he likewise died as the result of his sea travels. He was killed in a scuffle on Hawaiʻi Island which transpired after he had casually tried to kidnap King Kalaniʻōpuʻu-a-Kaiamamao in broad daylight, planning to ransom him out of revenge for the theft of one of his boats, although Cook himself had stolen their sacred wood first after they had been so nice to him. This is what I've gathered from reading a bit about the confusing affair, but the main point is that Cook got what was coming to him. The Journals of Captain Cook were published to major success, contributing to the history of English travel narratives. But Cook is a pretty well-known historical figure so I can't go into his chaotic life any more than this, lest I be writing forever.

Lord Byron in an Albanian oufit he bought while traveling for 2 years, & Captain Cook thinking about navigation. The backgrounds make them look part of the same painting, no?
Back to the Linds: interestingly enough, the scurvy-studying physician James Lind had a younger cousin who was also a physician named James Lind, as well as a scientist/philosopher/teacher. While teaching at Eton, this Lind became a tutor and mentor of a young Percy Bysshe Shelley, and had such an impact on him that Shelley refers to Lind in several of his works. Shelley especially enjoyed Lind’s experiments regarding galvanism - the study of bringing things to life with electricity. It is widely believed by scholars that Shelley’s conversations and rememberances about Lind at Lord Byron's Villa Diodati were some of the primary inspiration for Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein (1818).
For further reading on Shelley's Lind: The real Doctor Frankenstein? by Christopher Goulding via Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. Lind's Wikipedia page has a section devoted to Frankenstein.
Percy Shelley described his Lind:
". . . exactly what an old man ought to be. Free, calm-spirited, full of benevolence, and even of youthful ardor: his eye seemed to burn with supernatural spirit beneath his brow, shaded by his venerable white locks, he was tall, vigorous, and healthy in his body; tempered, as it had ever been, by his amiable mind. I owe to that man far, ah! far more than I owe to my father: he loved me, and I shall never forget our long talks, where he breathed the spirit of the kindest tolerance and the purest wisdom . . ."
A tie-in to vampire literature: Lind is also thought to be an influence on Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), which was influenced by (Lord Byron’s doctor) John Polidori’s novel The Vampyre, the first ever vampire novel, which was inspired by Lord Byron’s short vampire story Augustus Darvell, which was written at the same time as Frankenstein during their infamous ghost story competition at Villa Diodati. Augustus Darvell was inspired by Byron's travels through Eastern Europe, and was likely in part inspired by (another famous Romantic poet) Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s gothic poem Christabel, which Byron terrified Percy Shelley with after reading it aloud at the Villa Diodati, and which Byron loved so much that he helped Coleridge publish it through his own publisher. Christabel began in 1797 but wasn't published until 1816 for this reason.
To continue on vampires: Byron's enemy, the famous poet Robert Southey (who Byron roasted in Don Juan, among other works, and basically cancelled him as a result) also wrote a poem called Thalaba the Destroyer (1801) which is sometimes considered to be the first true depiction of a vampire in English literature. He also wrote it while traveling. Shelley (and Keats) both loved this poem, and so it also *could have* inspired some of the conversation at the Villa Diodati if Shelley had related the vampire theme to Christabel or Darvell. Southey is also the first English writer to write on Haitian zombi folklore, which would later become the zombie of modern horror. Southey was also reportedly in love with Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, the mother of Mary Shelley and philosopher who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), one of the most influential proto-feminist texts.
I relate these connections to demonstrate how small the literary world was at the time; so small that all the writers pretty much knew each other. In 1801, the English population was about 11 million, and in 1899 had grown to around 37 million due to industrialization (source: Black, Joseph, et al. "British Literature: A Historical Overview." The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, Broadview Press, vol. B, 2010, p. 70).
That's nearly the current population of London alone, but around 75% of that 11 million English population in 1801 was rural, whereas at the end of the century the national population was about 75% urban (source: same as prior), again due to industrialization. London in the early 19c was much less populated than today, and the amount of people who were educated or even merely literate was also much smaller than today. So really, it makes sense that all of the artists/writers/scientists/aristocrats knew each other. But it's still insane to see examples of how small the world really is and always has been.

A few of Far Cry 5’s characters’ former names (according to the files)
Did you know that some characters used to have different names? Here’s what I found:
Adelaide Drubman - Penny Johnson (I’m not sure; it’s unclear)
Casey Fixman - Casey Seagal or Casey Storm
Chad Wolanski - Chad Gardetto
Faith Seed - Selena Seed
George Wilson - George Beel
Guy Marvel - Guy Martel (headcanon: it’s still his name but he thought Marvel was a cooler name for a movie director)
Hurk Drubman Senior - Wayne Senior
Joseph Seed - Daniel Seed
Merle Briggs - Merle Clinton
Wilhelmina Mable - Wilhelmina Maybelline
Tammy Barnes - Tammy Palmer (was she supposed to be Eli’s wife? Maybe!)
Tracey Lader - Traci West

Also, I’ve said this before but Deputy Pratt’s first name is actually Stacy and not Staci. In the files, it’s only not spelled Stacy once, in the end credits... which is also, unfortunately, the only time players had a chance to see it written.
According to the files, Larry Parker’s first name is Laurence, the man we meet near Arcade machines is Morris Aubrey, and the fisherman is Coyote Nelson… but his description in the unreleased in-game encyclopedia also implies he died, so that might be inaccurate.

Lingerie (Ellie Williams x Reader) (Fluff)
Short Summary: You have a surprise for your girlfriend Ellie.
Words: 1633
Tumblr media Tumblr media
”Close your eyes!” you yelled for the forth time. Ellie let out a chuckle followed with ”Yeah, yeah”. She closed her eyes again, letting her back fall against the couch she was currently sitting on. ”Hands over your eyes” you added. Ellie frowned, eyes still closed ”Why? It’s not like I can see out of my closed eyes” she stated, ”I don´t trust you” you jokingly stated, referring to her countless times of peaking already. Ellie was shocked. She was even going to start an argument with you about it, but she quickly gave up. She let out a sigh before putting her hands over her eyes ”Are you happy now?”. A small smile appeared on your lips before mumbling ”Very”. Your eyes automatically wandered to Ellie’s hands as if it’s their only purpose. Matter of fact it´s your favorite body part of hers, apart from her beautiful eyes and her… you know. Even in a nonsexual way, you could look at them for hours. Letting your fingertips grace over the pronounced veins. You remember the first time you told her about your fascination for her hands. She thought it was a bit weird. Usually you would say your favorite thing on your partner is their smile, or eyes, or something cliche like that. But she never made you feel bad about it. Absolutely not. If anything she’ll tease you about it. Sending you ”innocent” pictures of her pointing at something, aware of just how it affects you. Even though Ellie thinks it’s just because of her talented fingers, but it's more then that.
”Can I look now?”, Ellies question snapped you out of your thoughts. You quickly ran to grab the bag you left in the hall. ”Not yet” you answered as you took off your hoodie and undershirt in one go. Ellie lets out an enjoyed groan, but obeyed. You pull down your washed out jeans along with your underwear, replacing them with your new ones. Despite the lack of size options they sit just right. You slide the straps of the matching bra along your arms, hooking it on. Ellie always helped you putting on your bras, so you struggled for a bit before finally getting it on. Your trembling hands wasn’t to much help either. While being on patrol with Dina a few days ago, you looked over this abandoned clothing store. As you were walking though the shelfs, gun held high, you spotted this lingerie set. You took a closer look and completely fell in love with it. Hoping Ellie would do so too. Before Dina would met up with you, you a grabbed the set in a size you hoped would fit and shoved it in your backpack. You hid it in an unrelated bag in our closet til you felt like it was the right day. Which is today. You slide on the stocking holder, even though you didn’t have any stocks to go with it. You took a quick look of yourself in the mirror you had set up in the hallway. You combed your fingers though your hair, trying to fix it after your hectic cloth change. Your hands then wanders over the new fabric, your eyes tracing over your half naked body. You tried to shove any negative thoughts to the side, but some still slipped by. To say that you where confident would be a joke. The relationship between you and your body has been rocky. It’s not that you hate your body, you just wished you could have a different one. You can’t even count how many times you have thought about taking a pair of scissors and cut of the parts you don´t like. It sounds brutal and even though you try to deny it it’s probably true. It’s just you never thought someone could find you pretty. Especially not the way Ellie does. The girl is on her knees for you whenever you want. Some say you’ve got her around your finger, but you don´t like to refer to it like that.
Your first initial thought while looking at the mirror was to rip off the lingerie set and throw it out the window. Leaving it to rot while you locked yourself in your shared bedroom to cry. But if there’s one thing Ellie has taught you it’s to never feel ashamed of yourself. So you torn yourself away from the mirror, thinking it will only cause you more damage then good if you kept standing there. With shaky legs you walked up to Ellie til you where right in front of her. Even though she couldn’t see you a smile still appeared on her face. You took a deep breath before saying the words Ellie has been waiting for ”You can look now”.
Ellie´s jaw dropped the second her eyes landed on your decorated body. A silence took over the room, making you even more anxious. Just say something, you thought while you were nervously playing with the clips of the stocking holder. But it was simply cause Ellie couldn’t get anything out of her mouth. The sight in front of her was making it hard for her to focus on anything else. To give you an answer. She has seen your body before, even with less clothes then now. But she somehow always gets baffled whenever she sees your beautiful body and falls in love with you over again. ”Where’d you get this from?” Ellie finally broke the silence, still in ”aw”. ”In a shop while being on patrol. I-I can take it off if you don´t li-” you turn around to get back to your pile of clothes in the hall, but Ellie grab your wrist. You turned back to look at her. ”I love it” she proudly stated along with a smile. You felt your shoulders fall down a little as you could finally relax. ”Do a little spin for me?” Ellie asked while letting go off your hands. You did a little swirl. Ellie looked you up and down, admiring the beautiful girl in front of her. Her whistling made you giggle, getting flustered by this attention from your pretty girlfriend. Your eyes fell back on her when you were done. ”Aw, baby. I can’t believe this is all mine” Ellie whined as her right hand traced your left thigh. You eyed her tattoo. You always thought it was so cool. It really suited her. Matter of fact, it was thanks to it you two first interacted. At a traditional celebration the Jacksons had every year you saw her at a bar. You went up to order a beer, intentionally choosing the spot beside her. While waiting for the bartender you took a peak at her only to notice her already looking at you. You lowered your gaze to avoid the redness on your cheeks from getting any more pigmented, and as you did you noticed the tattoo on her forearm. ”Nice tattoo” you said while trying to keep eye-contact with her for longer this time. She seem to be in deep thoughts by the flinch she made after my comments. ”Uh…thanks” she answered, mentally slapping herself for not saying anything more extraordinary. ”Is there a cheesy meaning behind it too?” you asked along with a teasing smirk. Ellie chuckled a little. She looked around the room, making sure no one was around before spilling the whole truth. You were shocked then and still til this day you can’t believe she told you that… after only a few minutes of talking. After confronting her about it later in your relationship she claim it was because you seem trustworthy. You used the alcohol in your body to let out the words you wouldn’t dare say in a sober state, that night. Especially not to such a pretty girl like this one. Your continues flirting throughout the night proved to Ellie you didn’t just want to be friends. So she asked you for your number before you left, and you’ve been talking nonstop since then.
Ellie raise up from the couch. Her right hand traced your left cheek as her thumb rubbed the apple of your cheek. You looked up at her, mesmerized by the pale green eyes looking right back at you. The other hand she left to rest against your hip. ”Fuck, I´m so happy to have you”, a smile took over your face as your eyes starts to get glossy. ”I love you, Ellie” you admitted, not able to put in words how much this girl in front of you meant. ”I love you too” Ellie answered before attaching her lips against yours. Her chapped lips felt wonderful against yours, making you wish this will last forever. Ellie got more into the kiss, holding your face with both her hands now. You trace your hands along her forearms, feeling the muscles move when she grabbed you with more lust. Ellie moved her hands to your things, lifting you up. Not breaking the kiss. You wrapped your arms around her neck, combing them thought the short hair at her neck. Ellie pulls away from your lips ”Now lets get you out of that lingerie, you sexy girl”. You giggled, ”I thought you said you liked them” you teased back. ”Yeah, I do. But I like you more without them” Ellie stated while carrying you into your bedroom.

I did a Color Analysis on the Outfits of the Doctor for a class
Okay first I want to preface this with a: I haven’t finished Classic Who, nor watched a whole lot of it, but wanted to include it in this analysis, neither have I fully completed 13′s run, but also wanted to include her. I adore her final outfit, but it feels much more like a compilation of references to other Doctors at the last minute than a deliberate choice made with Color Theory in mind. She really got cheated out of a lot on her run, and it makes me upset, because she deserved better. I hope this is taken with heaps of salt, I just wanted to write about Who for class.
Tumblr media
Okay here we go:
For live Action TV Shows, I struggled, as I don't really watch that much live-action TV, as I find them boring. The exception to this rule is of course: Doctor Who.
Tumblr media
Doctor Who is an interesting case, as Classic Who (60's-late 80's, includes TV movie from mid-90's) and New Who (2005-present) use color, and more specifically, the Doctor's color scheme in very specific and different ways, that are still relatively controversial in discussion online. Doctor Who actually began in black and white, airing on the same day JFK was assassinated. Eventually, the actor who portrayed the Doctor, William Hartnell, had to retire due to health complications, so they brought in a new actor to portray the Doctor, starting a new pattern of "regenerating" the Doctor when an actor wanted to quit the role.
Tumblr media
While the first two Doctors were entirely in Black and White, Jon Pertwee, the Third Doctor, saw the series shift into color. His outfits reflected this, shifting from a black and white normal suit into velvety maroon suits, or even a normal suit, with a bright red cape to accentuate him. As Doctor Who had originated in Black and White, the designs for enemy aliens had a tendency to be achromatic, grey and dull- Classic Doctors incorporated warm muddy hues to contrast this wildly. This is also explained in-universe, as the 3rd Doctor is the incarnation that is forced to live exclusively on Earth, and is influenced by Earth's vibrancy for his outfits. Every subsequent classic Doctor has some sort of warmth in their outfits, as pictured in the previous poster, which contrast wildly with the lifeless grays of Daleks and Cybermen. The Sixth Doctor and his companion are pictured below alongside a Dalek and a Dalek control console, showing how alien those from our world appear.
Tumblr media
We can additionally see how alien the Doctor looks in the TARDIS after having been influenced by Earth.
Tumblr media
There is a clear shift however, by the time of New Who.
Tumblr media
New Who's Doctors have a tendency to stick to cooler color palettes, making THEM seem alien. There are exceptions to this, namely the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, but they will be talked about later. The colors I would associate most with New Who would be Brown and Green. Christopher Eccleston's 9th Doctor is very rude, and a bit eccentric, battered from a war in space, he has long lost the whimsical earthy tones that were so present in Classic Who, instead sporting a black leather jacket and a purple shirt, very often seen in green or cool lighting.
Tumblr media
The 9th Doctor falls in love with his earth companion Rose Tyler, and in regenerating, is born of that love for humanity. The Tenth Doctor, played by the beloved David Tennant, is a stark contrast from the 9th Doctor, dressing in vibrant pinstripe brown suits. This continues to be the case until he is separated from Rose, after which he dons a blue suit, cool colors returning to signify that he is once again alienating himself from humanity. As he begins to heal, he dons his old brown overcoat over his blue suit, showing he is again allowing his humanity to resurface.
Tumblr media
The Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith, dresses in brown, earthy tones, as he's very connected and loving towards Earth and his companions, but after facing dramatic loss, shifts towards wearing cooler tones, namely a purple suit. His outfits are seen in the opposite order of appearance. (Right to Left)
Tumblr media
Now for my favorite: Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor! Capaldi's Doctor is much more like the initial Doctors, feeling very, VERY alien, compared to the almost human 11th Doctor. This is demonstrated in his first outfit, a cool dark blue suit. This suit comes with a catch however, flaunting bright red interiors, signifying a truth about the 12th Doctor, he has soul and empathy within, he's still learning how to show it. The series makes special attempts to have the red inlet be visible in scenes where Capaldi gets to show his emotions.
Tumblr media
As 12 grows into learning better empathy through his companion Clara, and following a reunion with his wife River Song, Capaldi's Doctor starts to wear a vibrant Magenta/Red suit, signifying a massive change in his character- upfront, honest kindness.
Tumblr media
After facing more massive loss, and being on the brink of regeneration, Capaldi's Doctor's new black suit is revealed once again to have a bright red interior in his final scenes, and he is deliberately lit up in oranges and yellows, not from his regeneration energy, but from lighting inside the TARDIS.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the following Doctor, Jodie Whittakher's 13, does not shift outfits throughout her seasons, instead opting for cooler tones despite being much like 11 or 10. This may be to emphasize her alien-ness despite her warm-hued TARDIS, but to me, it doesn't feel as intentional as before, instead feeling like another way Jodie was given the short end of the stick in regards to Who. Jodie's 13th Doctor deserved outfit theming!!

“You´ll be fine” pt 3
summary; smut/lemon. Quite some text. Don´t like it? Don´t read it!
READER IS OF AGE
GENDER NEUTRAL
Tumblr media
Since the last time you spent over at Michael´s, a lot has changed: his best friend, aka your former boyfriend broke up with you during the sleepover you guys had, and Michael´s girlfriend, aka your best friend didn´t even bother to try and comfort you and as if that hadn´t already been horrible enough they all have been refusing to speak to you ever since. That wasn´t even the worst part.
Now the worst part is that you guys have been a friend group ever since you were little, and during every summer-vacation you guys went on a roadtrip with Michael, his two younger siblings (which both shared a room alone), your other two friends and, obviously, their father William(who had an entire room to himself). William would drive you all up to some kind of mini-hotel in his family van and then just tell you guys when to be where for activities he booked and that´s that. Usually you didn´t mind sharing a room with all your friends, especially not since William was the one paying for YOUR vacation but this time the fact that you were no longer friends and you were being left out by your former friends was weighing down your mood.
You quietly sat on the last row of the family van, silently trying to mind your own business. Your former friends sitting in the row in front of you, all happily typing away on their phones. Probably in a group-chat and most definetely about you. You sighed as you felt the knot in your stomach tighten. Why didn´t your mom just let you stay at home?? “Dad?” Michael broke the silence. William hummed in response. “Can Y/N please sleep in a different room? We don´t want to share rooms with them anymore.” “Hm? Why is that?” William shot his son and his friends a quick glare through the front view mirror, letting his gaze scan over your face quickly.
“Well...” Michael stammered. Great. Your friends hate you now, and they didn´t even know why. “I thought you all were friends, no? Well then where is Y/N supposed to sleep?” “Can´t we book them another room?” a sigh escapes Williams plush, yet rugged lips “No, Michael. We booked exactly three rooms. The hotel is always busy and you know it.” “In your room, then.” “Why I don´t think Y/N would appreciate that much or would you, Y/N?” now it was your time to stammer. “I guess it´s okay, if it´s not a problem for you, Mr.Afton.” “Now now, don´t you worry. Everything will be just fine.”
Everything seemed to go smoothly for you now as it seems! You were settled into your shared room with William rather quickly and he assured you that sharing a room with him doesn´t bother him at all, and that he his sure that this vacation will still be as fun to you as it was all those previous years, if not even more so. You spent the remaining time of the day with William, Evan and Liz, watching your former friends giggle, seemingly having the time of their lives form afar.
At the end of the day, after dinner you decided to go for a quick shower while William tucked Evan and Liz into bed. Halfway through your shower you felt as if someone was watching you, yet decided to brush it off as regular anxiety. After you completed your routine, you headed back to the large hotel room, which looked like it was a living room and a bedroom in one except there was no couch, forcing you and William to share a bed.
Not that you minded, of course! But the older man always gave you butterflies, and made you rather nervous. You always hoped he wouldnt catch onto it; he did. Many years ago already. And believe it or not; he was thrilled to share a bed with you! Think the room was missing a couch? No, he specifically asked for a room without a couch, as he already knew you would have to share a room with him!
You spotted William in one of the armchairs, reading whilst happily puffing away at a cigar. "All done" you said, more to yourself than to him yet he picked up on it "My turn in the bathroom, then!" "Were you waiting?" "Indeed I was. Quickly went and relieved myself whilst you were in there, really needed to go. Sorry if I happened to spook you a bit." "Oh uhm, no, don't worry. I suppose it's alright." Heh. That's what I thought." and with that he left to the bathroom. After inspecting the room you decided to head to bed, already getting comfy.
After a solid half an hour you heard the shower turn off, and a semi-wet haired William stepped back into the room, promptly plopping himself down next to you in the bed, on his side, supporting his head on his hand. "And how was your day?" why would he ask you that?? "Oh it was okay..what about yours?" he chuckled. "It was quite alright..Listen, I'm sorry they're being like that. I am pretty sure they'll be over it in a few days." "Either way, I don't exactly want to surround myself with such immature people." he cocked his eyebrow at you "So you'd rather be with good, ole William instead?" flustered, you nodded. "No need to get shy now."
The other man let out a sigh, as he now flopped on his back, arms behind his head causing his shirt to rise up, exposing a thick, reddish brown trail with white specks* down to the hem of his flannel pants. You giggled to yourself, you found that rather adorable. William cocked a brow at you “What?”, he seemingly didn´t know if he should be emberassed or flattered. “well, I can see your belly.” great, Y/N. Tf kind of a response was that now? “what about it?” you giggled now. “ever thought of a belly ring?” “oh shush.” he pulled his shirt back down now, you let out an “awh” in slight disppointment.
The disappointment turned into pure shock when William decided to just take his shirt off as a whole, leaving you to eye his body up and down. He was awfully handsome, much more so than you´ve ever thought. “Oh please don´t hold back-” William rolled his eyes, seemingly being annoyed at how shy you´ve gotten “I haven´t gotten this much attention in a decade.” Slowly you raised your hand to touch his exposed torso, holding your breath as your hand made contact with his skin. Huh? His skin was quite tender, and despite being stubbly all over, also somewhat soft? Well- you did practically find an entire drugstore of skincare products in his bathroom last time and apparently he does use all of them. You gave him a few squishes here and there, as if you were testing how tender he was. A muscle of his flexing beneath your hand every now and then.
A soft chuckle errupted from Williams chest, distracting you from your thoughts. “Do you know flattering it is for an old man like me to have such a beatiful/handsome lad/lady admire me?” he pulled you towards his chest, basically tucking your head under his chin, calmly inhaling your scent. You gladly nuzzle into him. You took a few more minutes just admiring his body from the different angle, taking your sweet time staring down every inch of him. Wait- why is the waistband of his pants lifted from his belly ever so slightly? You un-nested from him, to shoot him a questioning look. Fortunately for William, you over-estimated the space between the two of you, so now your noses were touching, granting him the perfect opportunity to catch your lips in his. After a few seconds of tensing up, you allowed yourself to melt into the kiss and to let him take the lead.
Minutes pass, and the two of you were still very eagerly exploring the other- Williams hands littering the sensitive skin on your torso with gentle, loving, little pinches whilst your hands just caressed his broad back. The room was lulled in near complete silence, with only a muffled moan from you, or a calm sigh from William to be heard every now and then.
Soon enough Williams large hand took yours and placed it at the hem of his pants- oh. Undecided you gently ran your fingertips across the hem of his slacks, then softly around the bulge which has formed in the hours ago already, softly teasing him. Williams hands now cupped your butt, pulling you closer into his larger frame, and as he did so he gently parted your lips with his and let his tongue explore your mouth. The tingly heat you´ve been carrying in your core for well over an hour now growing unbearable- making you feel sick. Thus, you decided to let a finger run right over Williams clothed erection. You didn´t want to wait much longer- and apparently neither did he since he thrusted upwards into your touch as you ran your finger over his clothed frenulum. But wait- as you fully reached the tip you could feel the fabric of his slacks to grow soggy with pre-cum. You softly giggled to yourself, slightly proud and happy that you make men feel that way.
Just as you tucked your finger under his waistband to teasingly, slowly pull it off him you felt him squeeze your bottom with one of his hands, letting a finger slide over your underwear to your pulsating groin, gently applying pressure to your most sensitive spot with just his index finger. You hissed in pleasure, and for the first time in hours you properly removed your lips from his. Now glancing at your finger, which was still neatly tucked under his waistband you bit your lower lip as you imagined what would possibly be awaiting you under those layers. William chuckled, carefully watching you as you slowly but surely de-robed his lower half. You were a little shocked to find his erect member completely are in front of you right after you just pulled down his pants. Was he not wearing boxers?? This whole time? You didn´t care enough to ask, attentively looking at his rather large shaft. He was´t too long yet rather thick, and uncut with a few blue-greenish colored veins running along his length. He actually looked nice! Well groomed, too.
But now what? You thought to yourself. Helpless, you looked at William, who in response gave you a deep chuckle “No need to be intimidated, Love. I don´t need much” so you did the first thing that came to mind; grab it. Just grabbing him, your hand meeting the curly hairs at the base of his shaft. Curiously, you noticed his member eject a little more pre-cum. He really doesn´t need much..You slowly started to pump your hand up and down at a steady pace, not wanting this moment to pass too fast. Absentmindedly, you straddled his hand, which was still nestling in between your legs, causing his his hand to apply more pressure to the sensitive area of yours. William must´ve finally dropped his teasing manner as he now pulled aside your underwear, sliding a thick finger into your heat, curling and uncurling it within you. Ugh you were so pent up already- you felt like you could easily tip over the edge with each passing second.
William was a blunt man, and you were very well aware of that. Yet you hadn´t expected him to not drop this habit when it came to being intimate. He was just directly looking at you now, light grey orbs directed at your own “I want you.” emberassed by that, you just nodded in response. You knew what this meant; it meant to lie back on your back, letting the older man take control. And that was exactly what you did. Now that were comfortably placed on fluffy pillows and your thighs were wrapped around Williams waist he was intensively staring you down, his erecection pressed to your hole, waiting for your consent.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, gently tugging him towards yourself. Your heart was racing, part of you simply couldn´t believe this was really heppening, you were unable to speak clearly from excitement, your voice barely above a whisper “make me yours, William..”. And so he did. You could feel the hot, tingling, burning sensation within you as his shaft parted your walls to make room for him. You just stared down,in disbelief, slight shock and pain. The feeling of Williams chest vibrating against yours quickly whisking you away from your thoughts, and back to him. He seemed to be rather amused by your reaction, softly giggling. “You alright?” you just nodded as your walls became more and more adjusted to him. William pressed a kiss to your forehead before he proceeded to slam himself into you.
After a few, solid minutes you felt confident enough to engage a bit more, caressing his back up and down as he thrusted into you, genlty dragging your nails over his back every now and then, tangling your fingers in his hair, letting your head fall back in pleasure..It was like William finally managed to tear down the invisible walls you built between the two of you, and it truly was beautiful.
While the both of you reached your limits, William held you close to him, just squeezing you against his chest as he spilled into you. Now you truly were his...

On Getting William Laid
OK, so I will happily concede that the writers probably wanted the audience to see William as a virgin. BUT they never stated that outright, and if you are like me and wish to buck the popular fanon, here is some ammunition for you.
The most common objection I see to William having done the deed are:
He is a Victorian and Victorians are famously prudish
He is shy/awkward with women
He is uninterested in mere carnal desire until Dru comes along
To take these in order – the Victorians were only prudish in public. They were obsessed with sex. You repress that much, man, it‛s gonna come out somewhere, and in works such as My Secret Life or The Romance of Lust boy howdy does it. You name the kink, and the Victorians were into it – or at least, the men were. (I am far from an expert on Victorian porn, and I am not aware of any aimed at women, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't any, or that women might not co-opt porn aimed at men if that was all that was available.) Voyeurism! Scat! Masturbation! Incest! Lesbians! And that‛s only one chapter!
Moreover, prostitution was absolutely rampant. It wasn‛t just brothels; there were sex workers all over London. And the brothels ranged from dingy dangerous dives to expensive gentlemen‛s clubs. In fact, GillO once wrote extensive meta on how, if you analyze the historical anomalies of the costuming and language used at the party where William was turned, the only logical explanation is that it was being held at just such a high-class brothel.
Which leads into point two. William is awkward (to a point; he does not seem to me to be particularly shy, just kind of... oblivious to social cues) around women of his own class (or possibly of higher class, depending on how you see his and Cecily‛s relative social status.) However, it‛s very unlikely that he would have been equally awkward with women he saw as his inferiors. And a middle or upper class Victorian gentleman would have very much seen A) servants, and B) prostitutes, even high class ones, as inferiors. (The way Spike treats Harmony is very much in line with the attitude Victorian men had toward sex workers. Whereas he sees Buffy, Dawn, and Joyce as ‟ladies.‟)
And lastly, point three. I submit to you that William Pratt is in fact HORNY AS FUCK. Yes, he wants marriage and true love, but (whether or not he would admit as much to himself, or anyone else) he also wants to get it on. The godawful poetry he writes to Cecily is full of equally awful sexual innuendo.
My heart expands 'tis grown a bulge in it inspired by your beauty effulgent
His heart isn‛t the only thing expanding and bulging, I tell you what.
Oh, lark, grant a sign if crook’d be Cupid’s shaft.
‟Cupid‛s shaft‟ is crooked, huh? Remind you of anything?
BUFFY: Uhh, you're bent. SPIKE: Yeah, and it made you scream, didn't it?
Now mind you, I‛m not gonna argue that William was out there banging the maids every weekend. I‛m just saying, the guy was almost thirty, and lived in a milieu wherein if he wanted sex, he could stroll down almost any street and get a quick knee-trembler (and it was pretty much expected that a gentleman would do so, because a Real Lady, such as they might be married or engaged to, wasn‛t supposed to want sex at all except as something to be endured for the sake of children.) Maybe William never, ever took advantage of the mountain of social privilege he was standing on. But I don‛t think it would be utterly impossible that he did.
Your Honor, I rest my case.
