okay we need to have an intervention.
i've noticed that people don't leave the same kind of unhinged compliments under fanfics that visual artists usually receive (eg, "i want to eat your art"), so i've come up with a list that you need to start employing when your friends send you their WIPs and when your favorites update on ao3 but you're having a hard time commenting something that sounds intelligent and you still want to support them
"you're like if [famos author] (eg, Victor Hugo if the fic is angst) was into [fandom]"
"well THIS has been added to my pre-sleep daydream schedule"
"this fic invaded my mind and consumed my brain like a spore"
"I'M LOSING SLEEP OVER THIS ONE, FOLKS"
"yOu'Ve AlReAdY lEfT kUdOs HeRe"
"this fic has me scratching at my yellow wallpaper, it's so good"
"this fic has me checking under my floorboards for the heart of a kind man i murdered, it's so good"
"i'm making my parents read this"
"i know only one chapter is out so far, but i'm going to print this out, staple it together, and put it on my bookshelf next to the canon material"
"this fic gave me another mental illness"
(you can only do this one once) "i made an ao3 account specifically to bookmark this"
"i'm going to print this out so i can eat the words on the paper"
and a couple that are just nice (without the feral nature):
"i made a custom playlist to listen to while i read this fic"
"this fic reminds me of [song]"
"i really liked the part where [x], it really stuck with me"
"i really liked this line, [quote the line,] it was so well-written!"
artists: draw fanart of the fic!! it doesn't matter if you think your art skills are good and it doesnt matter if it's just a sketch!! let the author see it!!
make a moodboard!! for the fic!! let the author see it!!

it's alex. Before I fuck off to go write my vent fic, here are some of my suggestions to anyone else who can't get their fix from ao3. (i send my deepest support to the tired volunteers who are working so hard to keep the site safe. I hope they only get good things in life. and to those who depend on ao3 as a life line, you have my deepest condolences, i truly hope this post is of help to you.)
-if you know the tumblrs of any of your favourite writers, or any of their socials in general, go to them and go through some of their pieces and posts. Leave comments.
-Same with the fanartists. Pour love on them as well.
-at the comfortability of the writer, see if they would be willing to share snippits of works. maybe creat ficlets.
-reshare any writing (and artworks too) you come across, as well leave a comment for the creator.
-rebrowse through the tags that bring you comfort. (I know for Seth and I, we will be going through the KalluZeb tag pretty extensively)
-write/create your own snippets and post them for fellow fans to see and share as well.
-once you are able to, and of course if you can, donate to ao3. they work solely off of volunteers and they are being hit very hard right now. This goes for content creators as well, support your writers and artists however you can, give back to them. Be it in showering them in love or in tips. Give them your appreciation however you are able.
Support each other. and remember to take care of yourselves.
-Also, feel free to add to or expand upon this list, share if possible.
-Love, Alex💙

the fact it’s a for-profit writing AI really, really gets my goat, along with the feeling of bitter inevitability that’s been rising with all the troubles visual art siblings have been having. torn between ‘it’s only been a matter of time’ and ‘it never had to be like this’.

As Arcane S2 rolls around the corner, please remember...
That however beautiful this animated endeavor is, it remains the property of corporate giants like Riot, and streaming platforms like Netflix - both of which are notorious for
a) jumping that shark on successful premises due to a superabundance of bad suggestions trickling down to the creative depts in the form of Insipid Emails from Corporate
b) milking successful premises past the point of exhaustion due to their own success and leaving their twitching, feeble, barely-breathing remains to die an unceremonious death in the shadows of media obscurity, and
c) replacing their successful creators with less creative ones to save costs, because they don't understand the value of the creative input behind the show's success.
Please consider supporting the mobilization of workers/creatives on all shows - not just Arcane - to stop corporate meddling in the form of budget cuts and unfair wages, while their CEOs + board members continue to take home billions.
Please consider both petitioning and demanding that platforms like Netflix grow a spine and phase out the 'all episodes released at once' model, which actively harms the actors, animators, writers, costume designers, set departments, VFX experts and everyone else that worked hard on the series, by cheating them out of the right to receive paychecks and residuals over the lifespan of the show, instead of the cheapened instant gratification of a single deposit.
Please consider calling out Netflix on the need to have more episodes released per season on their shows, so writers, voice-actors, sound engineers and many others will have a steady stream of payments instead of an unpredictable one, and to give the characters, and the writers who wrote them, some breathing space instead of cramming all the plot points into 9 or 10 episodes.
Please remember that the creatives are often the public face of a franchise, and are often thrown into the line of fire when narrative decisions are made behind the scenes - decisions that they do not necessarily agree with, and are often not in control of, but are forced to sell anyway, lest they be replaced.
Please remember that hateful, threatening, and abusive behavior is not what we should be about as fans - and that the creatives who work on these shows/projects often read our comments, and feel the weight of our expectations and emotions.
Please consider supporting your creatives and showrunners as individuals, not just as "the person who makes X".
Please consider getting LOUD AF on Twitter/X about the bungling of character arcs via hashtags - and directing the vitriol @ the company producing the show, not the poor creators - because corporate runs numbers on that kind of stuff, and if there's a perceived furor about certain narrative directions/plotlines, they're less likely to ignore it and more likely to cave, because of the bottom line.
Please remember that a majority of dismal creative choices have come as a result of corporate/big tech pushing the button on creative decisions - and that, in order for us to be heard, we have to use our collective voice to push back, and keep pushing back until the message sinks in.
Please remember that beyond protecting a beloved series, it's about fighting to protect the people behind it, the same way they fought for the integrity of the story, and the characters, in their telling.
And, while we're at it, please support people within fandom spaces - like fanartists and fanfic writers - who share their labor of love for free, and don't get paid a cent, except in goodwill and appreciation.
Remember that fandoms are, first and foremost, a community.
It is not about content, but people.
Let's be good to each other, and to the creatives, and keep fighting for them to be treated well by the companies and executives who make money off their labor, and profit off our love.

I know it's kind of old news now, but instead of continuing to consume media that's being put out by corporations too greedy to pay writers and give them decent working conditions, my advice?
Read Fanfiction
I know you've probably heard it before (tumblr veterans, I'm preaching to the choir), and maybe you haven't and don't care (all of the incoming reddit and twitter refugees, please keep an open mind, fanfic is fairly common here and not considered as "cringe" as other parts of the internet), but please hear me out. By reading fanfiction, you are doing two (2) important things while also getting your fix for your favorite characters/worlds/tropes.
First, you are essentially boycotting those awful, awful corporations that have driven writers to strike. Like the 07-08 writers strike made unscripted reality TV boom, the writers strike today has stirred up thoughts of using AI to get around hiring writers. In order to keep humans in creative control, we need to consume media made by humans*
Now, secondly, by reading fanfiction, you are supporting small artists and writers. Not only are you supporting the writers of the actual fanfictions, but you also might be supporting their beta reader or their cover artist.
Archive of Our Own (or AO3) is my go-to site. It's an archive (duh) that's non-profit, volunteer run, and the tagging system is nearly flawless, in my opinion. You can find nearly every fandom, every ship, and every trope. They also have an app. It's not as good, but it does offer some accessibility options.
There's plenty of other sites as well, but AO3 works the best for me. I recommend it highly, especially since there is an option to exclude certain tags, which is incredibly helpful in weeding out triggering fanfics.
I know some people have mixed feelings about the strike and how it affects their favorite media, but please remember why they're doing it. Writers deserve better, especially since they work so hard to continue creating your favorites. So, in these trying times, when you miss the world and characters that these writers were creating, turn to the other talented writers who have taken them up and are creating stories with them.
Read Fanfiction
*This isn't just fanfiction, of course, though that is probably the easiest way to do so, but also supporting fanartists, small novelists (idk if you've seen, but 7 Deadly Habits of the Modern Demon Summoner by @animentality is all over my dashboard and I couldn't be happier), smaller podcasts (I recommend DND actual play podcast for those of you who want your action fix), and generally watching indie and small production movies and shows.
TL;DR - don't continue to support corporations during the writers' strike, read fanfiction and support small artists and writers.

Reminder to please please please show support to small fanfic writers and fanartists!!
Like its 100% understandable that you would want to reblog, like, comment, kudos, and share fics and artwork from people you love but a lot of small people in the fandoms deserve the love and support too!! (Maybe even more because they don’t have an audience or anything so it’s hard for them to feel like their work is appreciated)
Especially because it’s byler week let’s make an effort to uplift small accounts as well as the big ones 🙏💙💛

🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?
🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?
::rolls up sleeves and brainstorms all over the keyboard::
If you want to do it, do it. Don't hide. Everyone had to start somewhere (wanna see my first ever fic? I was 18 and the internet did not exist, also, it was really badly written; you can find my second ever written fic here - its TOS Trek). We've all been there and we are all learning. Don't be scared, Thunderfam at least is here to support. For you fanartists out there, check out How I learnt Portraiture and then check out this post to prove that I can paint, honestly, really I can :D
If you do encounter negativity - block/ban. In fandom, if you can't say something nice, shut up and go away. Don't like, don't read, and mind your own business. I'm all for self curating your online experience. The only time constructive criticism is polite is when you know the person and they've asked. Like I have several members of Thunderfam I come screaming to while writing with the question, does this suck? These are my sanity checkers - Gavii, unfortunately you have taken on this mantle and suffer on a fairly regular basis. Nutty by name and nature.
Works in Progress - anyone who has known me here at all knows I leave a wake of WiPs behind me. Some I get back to, some, not so much (I promise to pull Alex out from under that building, I do!). WiPs are part of the way an artist works (I have so many in so many media, omigod). Because fanfic is published close to the leading edge of creation, its gonna happen. Fanfic is written for fun, after all. The key is to not let them beat you up in the head. Yes, there is unfinished stuff, but it doesn't mean you can't write something else in the meantime. Don't let it stop your muse. I am notorious for unfinished stuff and the real world hates it. But this isn't the real world, THIS IS FOR FUN. I know the marketing theories and the regularity of posting and popularity and what is at stake if either not enough is published regularly or if too much unfinished stuff disappoints the reader. But again, if you let the WiPs hang around your neck too much and badger you, they will drown you. It will become a job, a burden, something you hate. So don't pressure yourself. Work with your muse and see what you can wrangle out of it...at your own pace. You might be surprised what works.
The Terry Pratchett method - I don't know if it is true or not, but there is a post flying around Tumblr somewhere that claims Terry Pratchett, famous author, only aimed to write 400 words a day. This is something I have found extremely useful. If you want to write something, don't set the bar too high so you fail. Set it at a reachable level, even 200 words or 100 words. Honestly the hardest part is actually sitting down and starting. Before you know it you will have passed your low goal and blown it out of the water 3000 words later (my highest number of words in one day was 7000 - I tend to edit as I go, so it slows me down). Rarely do we have an entire day we can write, cos life keeps getting in the way. So do it in little bits. I'm doing this method with my crochet at the moment. Lots of little bits make big bits. This is how I've written many of my longer fics. Heh, I used to have fifteen minutes in the car before work, so I'd pull up on the side of the road and write as much as I could in that time. Sometimes having a limited time helps with that as well.
But the biggest thing you can do to improve your writing is to get to know yourself very well. I'm on the autism spectrum and likely have some forms of ADHD or Executive Dysfunction (I literally cried the day I found out it had a name as to why I couldn't finish things). It's taken me years to work out how to get work out of myself. How to avoid fighting myself (a fight I never win). To learn what works best for me and how I can herd the cats in my brain into them doing what I need them to do. Find out what makes you tick. Find out what sparks your muse, what way best enables you to write. Try different times of the day, different places, bribe yourself, time limit yourself, lock the family out of the room, go to the beach, write on paper, go mobile, write on your phone, scribble notes, anything that can get your brain doing what you want it to do. Sometimes reading fic can do it, showers and manual work are great for idea sparking - let the brain idle and it comes up with all sorts of interesting things. Very late night writing can be a doozy of a trip :D Find what works then do it - until it changes and you have to find it again because yes, my brain does that too, drat it.
And that is probably enough babbling from me :D I need to go find Virgil and a pick up with his name on it...or Gordon's...it's still gelling in my brain :D
I hope this helps someone, even just a tiny bit. Writing is hard work, don't let it drown you. Also, we all have up and down days, just because something sucks today, doesn't mean it will feel the same tomorrow. Never give up, never surrender, and if you do give up on one thing....ooh, look there's another one to play with.
Thank you for asking ::squishy hugs you lots::
Nutty
(who despite this will still have days where the writing will not work...in which case, I'm gonna do something else for a bit until brain decides it wants to play....stupid brain, do it on demand, you pile of goop)

A rapid-fire one today! Short and quick whooo!
Anonymous asked:
To add to the anti discussion….I’m old. I pay taxes. I do what I want. I’m not gonna have some teen who’s not even of the legal drinking age tell me what to do.
THIS thank you very much. Let us old people enjoy our fandoms in peace…
Anonymous asked:
have you ever heard of 2p hetalia?
Yes, of course! But we never got into it, although Himaruya’s initial 2p designs are great. I especially love the nyo version lol as always. But yeah I wish we had more of his own thoughts about this concept because it’s interesting.
Anonymous asked:
Any particular reason you don't read fanfiction or is it just not for you?  Honestly fanfic writers seem crazier than fanartists.  I remember this short and sweet Crewel x Grim drabble; Grim was showing off his terrible clothing designs but Crewel was being kind and supportive.
I regret not saving it.
Not really our cup of tea (both the format and a lot of times interpretation of characters and their relationship + tropes), and also time and energy issue. Nothing but respect towards the fanfic writers though, especially those who aren’t afraid to play around with crazier ships and ideas! Like the Crewel x Grim idea you’ve described, it sounds wholesome and honestly very fun.
Anonymous asked:
I would pay to see Riddle gel his little antennae up and then head butting people with them. Especially Ace. Mostly Ace.
I feel like if this is Ace we’re talking about, Riddle doesn’t even need to gel his antennae for this effect. He can just get hella mad and then start running around like a feral bull lol
Anonymous asked:
Imagine Lilia slapping someone’s butt and then they get mad and PUNCH his butt.
Honestly, if they manage to do that, Lilia would be impressed. But also complain about his old bones being too fragile for such a rough game…
Anonymous asked:
…Wait, Idia’s tattoo actually functions? My dumb ass thought he got it because he was into that kind of crap but that it was just for show. IDIA, YOU BAKA PERVERT.
He didn’t mean to! He doesn’t even know how it happened! It’s not his fault! 😭

why do fanfic writers keep making jaurne the main char like I get they prob don't like female main chars but its not even him but an oc in all but name llike at that point just make an oc. and they make chars blander then most harem animes (like I swear a harem where a male char has 1 trait is more devolped then the chars these people write cause at least I understand what their goal is
Have you ever heard of Fate Stay Night? Impressive back in its day, but as misogyny and homophobia and pedophelia no longer became acceptable, it lost its value to many.
However, it gained an appeal to many fanfic writers and doujinshi artists.
Why was this?
Like RWBY, the Fateverse has a fantastic worldbuilding, with many different opportunities for RPGs.
But RWBY lacks something that Fateverse has in spades to this day, especially amongst the fandom.
Straight white male protagonists that are basically useless and fragile and stupid...and yet, the women who are so much stronger and smarter in the fateverse, must surrender any and all agency, authority and free-will to the men.
Oh that does remind me. Fateverse did have ONE spinoff where a female protagonist was there....it was lesbian pedophelia. So basically , fateverse ONLY allows lgbt content if its fetishized lesbianism. as for the pedophelia, they do that to an alarming degree, and anime fans stand by it because to them, lolicon is somehow not pedophelia.
Oh wait, it is! Anyway, back to the patriarchy issue.
Too many men, and even women? Have trouble with the idea of women holding authority, influence, or power over men.
How many shows have women as protagonists taking on the same roles as men? How many shows have women be LGBT or not have men be shipped with them, and said women being protagonists?
For Fateverse, there are no gay men. and women are only bisexual if they're shipped with a male character, otherwise they're straight.
Speak to a fanartist or fanfic writer or fan who hates on bumbleby. Ask them what is their favorite MlM ship. I asked many a rwby fan who hated on bumbleby and accused CRWBY of queerbaiting...what was their favorite MlM ship. They had none...they considered it gross. Because well...see for yourself.
Tumblr media
This was from a WlW fanartist who was part of the "Fixing RWBY" youtube channel where Roman Torchwick is the white male savior alongside Adam Taurus.
In case you're wondering, no, FatmanFalling was not the person I got this from. It was from his Christian friend who made Hogwarts Legacy Fanart on Twitter, but chose not to post it here for obvious reasons. you'll see that one of their ships involve Jaune x Weiss and I've already provided post explaining why WK is a bad ship. https://www.tumblr.com/iamafanofcartoons/715787142254772224/why-the-whiteknight-ship-makes-many-in-the-rwby
But you see Tauradonna there too. Blake is blamed for Adam being evil...because at the end of the day, women are blamed for the actions men, because to blame men means having men be accountable for their actions. And we know how men both in shows and in real life just CANNOT do that...they're too fragile, too hypocritical. So those men blame women. And their supporters parrot that misogynistic hate.
Coer Al alaran? the "king of rwby fanfics" is notable for several things.
He never writes a female protagonist unless said woman is not allowed to have agency, power, or influence over men.
He does not make a woman a major character unless she is straight and the love interest of a straight white male savior.
He will only write an lgbt character such as coco adel, as evil or hated.
He forbids bumbleby at any cost, and will write yang as throwing herself into jaune or adam taurus' arms while hating blake and defending men from her.
Couer has apparently stated he despises blake's bisexuality and hates the idea of people of different genders being attracted to her, so he either writes her as jaune's pillow partner, or makes her antagonistic to men.
Finally, couer writes jaune or adam as the straight white male savior who has yang or another women sleep with them, while said men are abused by women.
He basically gets his writing from rise of the shield hero. I'm honestly surprised couer didn't decide on including pedophelia in his fanfics.
but at the end of the day? A woman, no matter how complex or fascinating? will be tossed aside by critics in favor of a straight white male savior, no matter how bland he is.
You can say, but this is just fiction. How about a real life example?
Hillary Clinton. She never sexually assaulted anyone. She never mocked people with disabilities. She maintained a single successful marriage. She's a successful businesswoman. Served in the Obama administration. Friends with Joe Biden and worked with him. Managed to even get Republicans to support her over the opposition.
Now then...why did Hillary lose the 2016 elections?
Because people decided that she was somehow on the same level as DONALD FUCKING TRUMP! Lets look at his record: Multiple divorces. Multiple failed businesses. Sexual assault, more than once. Mocked a disabled reporter. And more.
Yet despite him being a horrible human being? Because hillary was a woman, people decided that her flaws made her just as bad as donald trump.
Thousands of people refused to vote for her. Despite multiple democrats pleading with people to recognize the threat?
People decided that because hillary was a flawed woman? they would either not vote, or toss their vote for the green party, an anti-semitic political group that sabotaged democrats in the past.
more than 5 years later, after the GOP continue to spread harm and poison? People still stand by their refusal to vote for hillary.
If Hillary was a man, people would have voted for "him" in a heartbeat, flaws be damned.
And for those who say "but women and POC"... Look at the GOP.
Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Bobert, ben carson, etc etc.
How many women and POC in the GOP support racism, homophobia, misogyny, transphobia?
You want to see what those people believe in? Take a look at Florida.
Your gender, your race, etc does not stop you from being bigots or prejudiced.
And people would rather defend the idea of a white male protagonist either in fanfics or real life, rather than a complicated woman with flaws.
Because at the end of the day? Feminsim isn't about "a man being able to punch a woman" despite what shows like Konosuba seem to gloat about.
Feminism is about things like stopping gender gaps in paychecks. Its about allowing women to have a voice. Its about allowing women to have independence without being tied to a man. Its about women having their choices without a man influencing them or telling them how they should live their life. Its about shutting down the god damn mansplaining that so many fanfics, anime, manga, etc seem to embrace with the same passion that misogynists defend Naruto. Its about letting women have access to the same rights and privileges as a male.
RWBY is about that. Women are written as equal to men. Women are written as being able to make their own choices without having a man decide for them. Mansplaining is removed. LGBT rights are embraced and encouraged. And women, not men, are the protagonists.
Is it any wonder that people influenced by male fragility, toxic masculinity, and the patriarchy have such a hatred for shows like RWBY and Legend of Korra?
And THIS is why I stand by my beliefs that RWBY Criticism is rooted in homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and misogyny. Also because the critics tend to be assholes on more than one occasion, but apparently people love men being assholes but hate the idea of women having a mood.
Honestly, It makes me root for Salem and Cinder Fall...at least they have a legitimate excuse for blowing shit up and setting everything on fire.
Also, this is a reminder to PLEASE vote in your political elections! No matter how flawed a Democrat Representative may be, do you really want a Republican holding power over you?

I’m going to be honest I think some nico fans are a little to hard on fanfic writer’s people are writing for free and I see it all the time the notes when y’all attack shippers solangelo do this pernico do that people are writing for free and it keeps fandom alive driving people away cause one don’t like a ship is shitty just don’t read the story it free heck I’m in an anime community and if you know anime fans it gets nasty but even they try to not attack writers everyone is agreement not to attack artist drawing but why not extend the same grace to writers
It feels kinda breathless reading this but yeah I get your point and I wholeheartedly agree.
Even before engaging with the PJO fandom, I've been made aware of how nasty a English/Western-based (yeah I made that word up) fandom can get, so I'm mostly prepared to witness some... incidents (?). It's hardly a surprise at this point lmao.
There's always a line to follow. And someone behind you that would yell "Hey! That's mischaracterization!" whenever you're brave enough to escape the prison. This fandom treats unconventionality as if it was a crime, which reduces a lot of the fun. Shame.
I reckon it happens to every character's fandom, not only Nico - like, there should be a line when the community crosses a certain number, their quality decreases as much as it grows bigger. 😂😂😂 And yeah by that same logic, the Nico fandom would be one of the harshest bc the nature of his popularity.
I'm aware of the anime community. Though, if I read it right, anime originates from Japan, and Japan is without a doubt the laxxest when it comes to borderless creativity, so yeah, in a way, it's still better than a fandom brainwashed by the Western purity culture.
By the way, I don't think artists are any better in... whatever this is. if one is hateful towards something, they will attack the creator regardless of whether they're a fanfic writer or fanartist. Perhaps, the artists would have better chances of gaining a certain amount of supporters, who would defend them should need be, but again, that also means they have more risk of encountering nasty viewers as well.
All in all, things are not the brightest (since when they are anw) - that's why I'm here! 🥰🥰 To help destroy it faster, really.
Jk (or maybe not). I am proud to serve as a secure haven for those with unconventional creative sparks, even if it means challenging societal norms - for nothing other than to spite the shipping police, really. I make a point of trying to encourage every type of creativity, moreso to fanfiction just bc I'm mostly engaging it with - not bc my support is limited lol. It's nothing much, but I'll take the fact that you feel safe enough to send me an ask about this issue that I'm doing at least a good job of being the patron lolol.

next person who says you cant monteraily support fanfic writers but has 0 problem with supporting fanartists is probably gonna catch a blow out from me because im honestly sick to death of the double standard. theyre just different mediums for the same thing. they both infringe on IP copyright protections, literally shut up. If youre not telling every single sigital artist and merch artist they shouldnt be offerong commissions eith a fanart platform, you should be saying SHIT about fanfic. its not different.
