You bite your lip as you look at your reflection. The ribbed top clings to your figure, the razorback cut covers your cleavage but your lack of layers if obvious. If your dad was home, he’d freak out.
What the hell are you wearing? Put a bra on!
You’re tired of telling him you’re an adult. You’re over his distrust. You’ve always been a good a daughter. What have you ever done to let him down? You kept your GPA high enough to get into college and your extracurriculars even made you a hot commodity. Yes, that’s exactly what you are.
You turn and push out your bum, running your hands over the curve. The TikToks might call it a glow up. It’s that classic era of a woman’s life when she comes into her own. When she fills out just enough, when she knows the power she has. Well, you think that’s what it is. You don’t know, it’s all still a bit confusing.
Hard to be your own woman when you still live at home, but daddy pays tuition so you play by his rules. Well, it’s summertime and you don’t need to turn in a 4.0 to make him happy until Fall. This is going to be your summer. No studying, no lame ass book clubs, you’re breaking free. Well, you’re gnawing on the bars.
Your phone buzzes and draws you away from your narcissistic revery. Before, you weren’t really into yourself. You wore a school uniform and your hair was always the same style, nails clean and cut, no makeup. Your coming-of-age at least let you take a bit more control over your autonomy. Your dad couldn’t really keep you from spending the money you made at your campus work study.
Another text from Shelby. You don’t click on the preview. It’s worse to leave her on read than to just ignore the notifications. She’s a good friend but you think you’ve outgrown her. The last time you hung out, she just wanted to play MarioKart. You wanted to go out and do stuff but she hates public places. You’re no more fond of strangers but you wanted a bikini. You ended up staying in and ordering off Amazon.
You put the phone down as the whir of a weed whacker sounds outside your window. You go to it and look out the pane. You can’t help the curl of your lips. You watch your neighbour trimming the edges of his lawn. He’s overly diligent about his landscaping. While many others hire gardeners, he’s certain to tend to every inch of his lot.
Mr. Barnes doesn’t seem the type for half-measures. You like that about him. No, you love it. You feel giddy just watching him.
You spin and lean against the wall with a sigh. You have a terrible crush. On an older man. For all the novels and movies you’ve seen, it’s a common trope, but that’s fiction and this is real life. You can’t lust after your neighbour. Especially not him.
Just because you feel a certain kind of way, doesn’t mean you need to do anything about it. You can still dream. You can pretend when you’re home alone or at night when you’re lying in bed, unable to sleep. You feel a tingle flow through you and shudder.
You get a bad idea. Nothing’s going to happen, but you just want him to notice you. Just a little. Just for a moment.
You turn to the mirror again and touch the sides of your white denim shorts, slightly distressed for effect. You wiggle your hips and clutch onto your courage. You spin and flit out before it can elude you.
You scramble downstairs and stop to push your feet into your slides. You stop and take a breath, centering yourself on your act. You pull open the front door and flurry through, squealing as you scramble across the porch and nearly tripping down the steps. You throw up your hands, shaking them as you commit to your act.
“Ew, ew, ew,” you chant shrilly and the whirring trimmer stops. “Oh god!”
You hear a deep breath and a grunt. You put your hands to your head and cringe, turning to look at Mr. Barnes as he squints in your direction. You turn your grimace to a sheepish smile and drop your arms, rubbing one shyly, certain to push up your chest with the act.
“Hi,” you poke out the tip of your tongue, “sorry I...” you laugh at yourself, “there’s a spider in my bedroom. I panicked.”
He nods and squares his jaw, shifting the trimmer as he grips it. He comes towards the low picket fence between your yards. You drop your hands and hook your thumbs in your shorts pockets, rocking back and forth.
“Sorry, didn’t meant to bother,” you push your shoulders to your ears. His eyes twitch, barely resisting a skim of your figure. Instead, he looks past you to the long drive at the other side of your lot.
“Dad’s not around?” He asks warily, his voice rocky and deep, just like you hear it in your head.
You shake your head, batting your lashes at him. Him and your father don’t get along. Maybe you have some daddy issues but you really don’t care. He’s just so hot. His slightly mussed silver hair and his still toned arms. He might have some years on you but there’s no guys your age who look that good.
“Working,” you pout, “he won’t kill them either. He just puts them out in the yard and they come right back in.”
“Mm,” he hums and leans the trimmer against the fence, “want me to take care of it?”
Yes, I want you to take care of me. Focus.
You let your eyes round and push your lip out, “if you don’t mind. They give me the heebies.”
“Heebies,” he repeats the word flatly, “huh.”
He comes around the fence and lets himself in through the gate. You meet him at the walk and step in front of him, leading him up the front steps. You can’t remember the last time he came over. Not since he moved in. Yeah, his brief acquaintance with your father ended in a city prospector measuring the lots and relaying the property line. Oof, your dad still hasn’t let that go.
You’re overly aware of him behind you as you climb the steps. You hope he’s looking at your ass. Those shorts hug it in just the right way.
The front door is still open from your feigned escape. You step inside and habitually leave your slides on the mat. Mr. Barnes pauses and steps out of his workboots.
“Um, it’s in my room,” you point up the stairs, almost shaking. You didn’t really plan this far.
“Right,” he follows your direction and you stay a few feet back, keeping up your frightful act.
He climbs the stairs and you tell him which way to go. He enters your room and looks around. Shoot. Your head is empty. Something about him just makes you dumb.
“It was in the corner,” you lie, “it must’ve skittered off. Oh no! You think it’s hiding somewhere.”
“Probably won’t see it again,” he shrugs. “Keep a shoe by your bed.”
You hum and nod. Your eyes linger on the small vibe on your nightstand. Whoops. You kinda hope he sees it too. He faces you and clears his throat.
“Eucalyptus or peppermint,” he says, “those will keep them away. Spray a little around your windows and door.” He points around the walls. He looks a little out of place among your purple walls and your fluffy aesthetic, yet not at all. You can just see him on your bed. You gulp as you realise he’s still talking. “All good?”
“Uh, yes, d—sir,” you smile and clench your teeth tight around your near slip. Had you really almost called him dad? Oh shit. Yeah, that can just be tucked away and never thought of again. “Thanks for trying.”
“Yeah, no worries,” he shrugs and moves towards you.
You just stand there. He arches a brow and gesture past you. You blink and giggle, “oh, uh, sorry. Thanks again.”
“Mm, I’ll let myself out,” he says as he brushes by you. Just the scent of his sweat has you flustered.
“Sure,” you murmur after him, your heart fluttering. “Bye, Mr. Barnes.”
You listen to him go and as the front door shuts, you spin and float over to fall onto your bed. You lay face down and groan. Ugh, that only made everything so much worse. You want him! You need him! You lift your head and reach for the vibe on the nightstand. Hopefully the battery in this thing still has some juice.

Tumblr media
You hadn’t realized how tired you’d been until you felt yourself dozing while you laid on the couch. Your plans weren’t to fall asleep so early, in fact, quite the opposite. You were having a movie night!
You had gotten home not too long ago, getting some chores done before plopping down on the sofa to get the first movie of the lineup started.
It was maybe ten minutes into Iron Man that you felt yourself getting sleepy. You needed to nip that in the bud quickly if you wanted to get through the first couple movies tonight. You stood from where you were laying and sighed to yourself.
This would probably be a bit more fun if you had people to watch them with…
Alas, you were alone.
Your stomach grumbling caught you off guard and pulled you from your thoughts. You’d skipped lunch, and you were so caught up in your head on your way home, you hadn’t even thought to stop to grab something.
You let the movie play on as you walked into the kitchen. Pulling the cabinets open, you found them near empty and grimaced to yourself at the sight. You hadn’t had time to go to the store lately, and you weren’t feeling up for it tonight either.
Puffing, you decided to just order some take out.
You looked up your favorite Chinese place to put in an online order for delivery, but upon checking out, found that they were doing pick-up orders only.
You considered ordering food from somewhere else for a second, not wanting to have to leave the comfort of home again today, but once you had your meal picked out - you were suddenly craving that and that alone.
So, you sucked it up and placed the order, pausing the movie on screen and trudging to grab your shoes. You were at least happy you had decided to wait on showering and changing into pjs until later.
It would take you fifteen minutes to get to the restaurant and your estimated pick-up time was right in line with that, so you didn’t waste time as you slipped on your shoes and grabbed your keys and bag before heading out.
It wasn’t busy at all as you pulled into the nearly empty parking lot, only a few cars around. You parked in an empty spot in front of the place and shut your engine off before grabbing your bag off the passenger seat and got out.
A weird chill passed over you as you walked toward the door, but you didn’t pay it much of any mind.
As you pulled the entrance door open, you felt something… change. You couldn’t explain it, but it just felt different. You shook it off as you walked in, though you only grew more confused as you entered.
You had been here just last week, but somehow the interior was completely different. You weren’t sure how they’d remodeled and redecorated the place so quickly, but it was impressive.
You were also thrown off by how many people were inside as compared to the empty parking lot.
As you walked up to the counter, a woman you’d never seen before greeted you. You were once more surprised, because you always had one of the same two people working every single time you’d been here.. But of course, you didn’t say anything about it. You just smiled as she walked over to help you.
“Hi, I placed an online order,” you told her.
“Great, name?” she asked.
You gave her your name and watched as she walked away to check the bags along the pickup order table, her brows furrowing as she went. You felt nervous as you watched her double back to where she started and began looking through all of the tags once more.
The bell on the door rang but you didn’t turn around at the noise, only felt someone step up behind you as you started a line. You were playing with your hands, shifting on your feet as the woman returned to you.
“I’m sorry, I’m not seeing that order here. Do you have the confirmation?”
“Oh, uhm, yes, I do. Give me one second,” you reached for your phone in your pocket, “and I’ll pull it up. Sorry,” you offered out of habit.
“It’s no problem. Do you mind if I help the customer behind you?” she asked kindly.
“Oh gosh, yeah, of  course,” you said, stepping to the side as you looked behind you.
Your breath caught in your throat for a second as your eyes went a little wide. You nearly dropped your phone as you instantly recognized the man who stood behind you.
He met your eye, offering the tiniest of smiles as he stepped up to the counter. You quickly flit your eyes away, your mind racing. Was that.. Was that really him?
You chanced a glance over to him from the corner of your eye and near instantly confirmed your suspicions. Yeah, you thought, that’s definitely him.
Should you say something? Or just let him be?.. Really though, what were the odds of you ever seeing him in person again. This was like a time only thing…
God, you used to swear you’d never go up to a celebrity if you saw them in person, but as you stood there, no one else seeming to pay him any mind, you decided just saying hello wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. He was a person, too, right? A small greeting between two people was normal. Also it was him. And you weren’t sure you’d ever forgive yourself if you didn’t take this chance to say a simple hello.
You’d been so caught up, you hadn’t heard any of the conversation he’d had with the woman, but now as she went to go find his order, he stood there at the counter alone, waiting.
You tried to speak, but no noise would come out. You managed to clear your throat, though, and at the sound, he glanced over to you once again.
Another small tilt of his lips as he seemed to eye you up from where he stood before he cleared his own throat and looked away again, his hands shoved into his pockets.
“Hi,” you offered after a second, mustering up all the courage you could to get your lips to move.
He looked at you fully then, clearly a little surprised. It took him a second but he finally responded with a lopsided smile, “Hi.”
“Sorry, I don’t mean to bother you, I just uhm, just wanted to say, I’m, I’m a big fan,” you told him, trying not to let your anxiousness be heard so obviously.
He narrowed his eyes at your words, brows furrowing as he looked at you, “A fan?”
As you’re about to clarify, confused as to why he was confused, the woman returned.
“Here you go, Sergeant Barnes,” she handed him his bag, not a hint of jest in her voice, nor his as he thanked her.
You looked from her back to him, letting out a nervous titter as somewhere in the back of your mind, you recognized the sound of the bell ringing again.
“Uhm,-” you started before another familiar voice interrupted you.
“Man, will you hurry up? How long does it take you to grab food?”
You looked to the door that was being held open and again, found yourself dumb, your mouth still parted but no words coming out. The recognition in your eyes must have been obvious as Bucky looked from you to Sam quizzically.
“Did you find the confirmation,” the woman asks, pulling your attention back to her. You’re sure you looked beyond flustered and confused - you absolutely were. As you turned to face her again, Bucky slowly walked away, heading over to where Sam was by the entrance.
“Yes, uh,” you handed her your phone before glancing behind you again, the bright lights coming from just beyond the door causing your brows to furrow before it closed - both men still inside. They spoke as they stood there, glancing over to you once, twice before you turned back to the counter. What the hell?
“I see the problem,” the woman tells you, “it’s the wrong restaurant. Sorry about that,” she offers, though it’s no fault of hers.
You stand there, perplexed. And the more confused you find yourself, the more anxious you are.
How could you possibly be at the wrong place? You come here all of the time. You know exactly where you are. At least you thought you did.
“I’m sorry,” you apologize, with a shake of your head, “that’s my bad. Long week, I guess,” you force a breathy laugh and fake a smile as you turn to leave.
You see both men still by the door, watching you closely as you approach. You nod at them as you keep straight on, in a bit of a stupor now.
As you push the door open, you feel like a rug has been pulled from beneath your feet. The wind seemingly knocked out of you. You blink once. Twice. A shake of your head and a humorless scoff as you glance around briefly - you don’t even know what to think.
What the hell is going on?
Where are you?
Where is your car?!
Instead of being met with the same empty parking lot you’d parked in, you find yourself on a busy sidewalk along a busy city street. No parking lot, no emptiness, and no car.
“Are you alright?”
You turn and are met with the bright blue eyes that’d caught you earlier.
“Where am I?” you ask, growing frantic at the unknown.
“Hey, it’s alright, take a breath,” he instructs gently. “Sam,” he calls over.
“Sam?” you ask in disbelief.
“Sam Wilson, that’s my name,” he greets as you huff a dry laugh.
“Okay, Sam, and so - should I call you Bucky?” you ask sarcastically. “What’s going on? Am I being pranked or something? Is this a show?” you ask, eyes darting all around, waiting for cameras to make themselves known. “Or are you guys filming and just staying in character or what?”
“Allllright,” Bucky drags out, looking in your eyes as he tries to assess you, “I’m gonna take that as a sign that you are not okay.”
“Yeah, I’m not. This isn’t funny, I’m - I just- where am I?” you ask again.
“New York.”
“Yeah right. Where am I really?”
“New York,” he insists again. “Where do you think you are?”
“Not New York. I was just - I just went to pick up my dinner and now - what the hell is happening? What is going on?”
“Bucky, I’m gonna call them, just keep an eye on her,” Sam instructs before he walks a little ways down the sidewalk.
“Seriously, why is he calling you Bucky?” you ask.
“Because that’s my name,” he answers matter-of-factly.
“You’re Bucky Barnes?”
“That’s me,” he confirms, a little uncomfortably.
You stare at him blankly for a second. Your brain is playing catch up. Wrong restaurant. No parking lot. Car’s gone. These guys are acting like they’re their characters. You’re in New York? He’s still insisting he’s Bucky.
“Oh…” you breathe, mostly to yourself. Relaxing a bit at the realization you’ve come to. “I’m dreaming,” you laugh.
He looks at you with even more real concern as you lean with your back against the wall of the building. He thinks for a second before deciding to speak.
“I don’t want to freak you out, but no. You’re not. We are both very much awake.”
“No, we’re not,” you deny easily. “I was watching Iron Man and I fell asleep and now I’m dreaming of Bucky Barnes because I’ve been wanting to watch The Winter Soldier all day. And I will wake up..anytime now,” you muse and gesticulate vaguely.
“You were watching Iron Man?” he asks, sounding just as confused as he’d been earlier.
“Yeah. Started watching the MCU movies over in timeline order because I have nothing better to do on a Friday night.”
“MCU movies?”
“Yep.”
He shakes his head, “I’m lost.”
“Ha!” you laugh out before sighing, letting your head hit the wall lightly. “Ahh,” you sigh, rubbing your eyes, “I just gotta wake up.”
“Look, sweetheart, really, you’re awake.”
“I’m not. I’m not because if I am, then either you’re a scarily good actor who enjoys fucking with innocent people for the hell of it, or… you’re crazy and really believe you’re a fictional superhero, or I like, randomly jumped into a different universe where you’re really real or something,” you sputter a laugh. “So, I’m dreaming. That’s the only explanation.”
“Hey,” Sam calls to you both, “come on. Strange is expecting us.”
You laugh again, you can’t help it. Well, what the hell, you think. As long as I’m dreaming, might as well live it up.
“So you felt a change, walked into the restaurant, and found yourself somewhere else..”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
“Huh.”
“After all that, all those tests and questions, that’s all you got for me? ‘Huh’,” you question the man.
“I don’t think the door had anything to do with it. I thought maybe it was a portal of some kind, but that wouldn’t account for the changes in this reality as opposed to yours - from what you’ve told me. Half the events that have happened in your universe haven’t happened here and vice versa. And of course, there’s the whole,”
“Superheroes not being real thing,” you finish for him.
“Right. Superheroes.”
“But she, herself, she’s okay, right?” Bucky asks as he stands off to the side, out of Strange’s way, with his arms crossed. He’d been oddly protective over you the whole walk over, standing close to you as you explained the night’s events over again to him and Sam - and he only left your side once you’d gotten here at Strange’s request. Not that you minded at all, in fact, you definitely enjoyed it, but it was still unexpected. As you went through endless questions from Strange regarding you and life and everything in between, Bucky’s eyes seemingly never left you.
“She’s fine. Physically, there’s nothing wrong. I’m just not sure what exactly sent her here. She’s definitely out of her universe.”
“She’s definitely still sitting right here in front of you,” you point out, causing him to turn back to you from where he was looking at Bucky.
“I’m sure there’s some way we can get you home, I just might need some time to figure it out, ensure that it’s safe.”
“Okay, uhm-,” as you spoke, an odd chill came over you again, freezing you as your eyes went wide.
“What is it?” Bucky asks, instantly at attention, concern clear in his words. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, just.. That chill again..”
“You’re jumping,” Strange says, eyes a little wide as his gaze shoots over to you, as if he’s made a sudden connection, the epiphany of something still unknown to you coming over him.
“What the hell does that mean?” Bucky asks the question that was on the tip of your tongue.
“It means she’s-” another chill, another strange feeling of something being shifted, and then you can’t hear him anymore. You can’t see him, or Bucky. You’re alone? Possibly? You aren’t sure because all of a sudden you’re… where were you?
“What the hell?” you breathed to yourself.
“Where am I now?”

A jealous overreaction (Ansu Fati x Reader)
Tumblr media
**I got a little request for some jealous Ansu and even though he’s got the sweetest face in the world and writing angst for him almost felt wrong 😅, I managed to get this done. Hope you like it ☺️❤️**
Word count: 2440
Masterlist
Wattpad
“Can we do something fun tomorrow after training?”
“No, sorry. I have to work”.
“Oh, ok”. You could hear your boyfriend’s disappointment in his voice. “Are you doing anything exciting?”
“I’ll just be going to an event. Your teammate is going to be there too, actually”.
“Which teammate?”, said Ansu, curious about you working with someone from his team.
“Pedro”.
“He didn’t tell me about working with you”.
You laughed. “He wouldn’t know about me being there. It’s just for a phone brand. Boring but it’ll pay well”.
Working as a model also meant attending these types of events where you just had to be standing for hours looking pretty while the event's star got all the attention. But at least this time you knew that star. Even if you and Ansu were keeping your relationship a secret, for now, you knew his friends.
So the next day you went to the location for the event. Since you were there a bit early, it was mostly empty, except for a few journalists setting their cameras.
Being there early meant more time for hair and make-up and less stress. So you ended up being the first model that was done getting ready and could move to grab something to drink.
“Hey, what are you doing here?”
“Hi Pedri, I’ll be working here today. Didn’t Ansu tell you?”
“No, but I had to leave before everyone else to get here. I didn’t really have time to talk to anyone. But I’m really happy to see a familiar face”.
You smiled at him, not noticing the cameras already taking photos of his every move.
When Pedri was asked whether he needed someone to help him during the event, he picked you. Knowing the afternoon would be less boring if he had a friend he could chat with. That also made the event more fun for you and the three hours you were there flew by.
“I could drive you home”, offered Pedri when you mentioned calling a taxi.
“You don’t need to bother”.
“Come on, you’re my friend’s girl. It’s the least I can do”.
Little did you know there were photographers documenting you getting into his car and that the media was going to spin that information into something that wasn’t true.
                                   **
Ansu was just bored at home trying to find something to watch on tv when he noticed all the notifications on the team’s group chat. Maybe they were talking about something fun that could stop him from falling asleep at 9 pm.
But it wasn’t something fun they talked about. It was something that made him mad.
“Wait! What do you mean about the press reporting that?”, he wrote.
“It’s so stupid”, wrote Pedri. “I just talked to your girlfriend because I know her. And I wasn’t going to let her go home alone if I could drive there. But the stupid press now writes about us being together”.
Your boyfriend closed his eyes to take some deep breaths and relax. What his friend was saying made sense. It was just his jealousy making him overreact.
“Ansu, I can see you’re online. Are you ok?”
“Yes. Yes of course”.
“I mean”, continued Pedri. “If it was anyone else I wouldn’t care, but the fact that it’s your girlfriend they’re talking about makes me really mad”.
“It’s fine. Don’t worry”.
But it wasn’t fine. And even though he lied to them saying he was going to bed early because he was tired, he spent the whole night trying to rest. And he also didn’t send you a goodnight text like he did every night.
                              **
“My mum wants you to come to dinner tomorrow. Are you free?”
“Huh?”
That had been the mood the whole afternoon. Your boyfriend just didn’t seem to be there with you but on another planet.
“What’s wrong with you today? It’s like you aren’t listening to me”, you said, sitting up on the sofa and staring at his face, trying to find clues as to what was going through his head.
“Just tired”.
“Have I done something wrong?”
Your question made him sigh. Because you hadn’t and neither had Pedri, but he had also ignored him most of the time at training.
“I’m…I’m jealous”.
“Of who?”
“Pedri”.
He usually found the way you scrunched your face when you were confused adorable, but now he felt stupid. “Why would you be?”
“The event yesterday. The press has been writing about you two and I know nothing happened but…I don’t like reading those things”.
“Write about what…right, just the fact that I’m a woman and I was talking to him, right?”
You rolled your eyes and got up to get yourself something to drink.
“I trust you. You know that”.
“But you’re still jealous? How does that work?”
“I don’t know”, he said, hugging you from behind to try and stop your nervous walking. “I’m sorry I am this way. I can’t help it”.
You shook your head because you got it. It wasn’t nice for you to see all the girls interested in him either. But you trusted him and it wasn’t his fault that they liked him.
“I guess I get it now”.
“Get what?”
“I got a call this morning from the brand that organized the event. They want me to do a campaign for them”.
“That’s great!”, he said, excited. He knew campaigns were a big thing.
“With Pedri. So they don’t care about me as a model. They just want to do a campaign with the both of us so the press reports on it. I feel so stupid”.
You covered your face with your hands, trying not to cry. One of the main reasons why you hadn’t made your relationship public was to avoid this. You wanted to be hired for jobs because of your talent, not because of dating a famous guy.
Ansu turned you so you were facing him and took your hands from your face so he could hold you with his.
“Do the campaign”.
“What? No way! Not only do they want me just because of those rumours but it’ll make everything worse for you”.
“Do it. I’ll be fine. And if they want to use you, you used them back getting their money. Just make sure they pay extra, knowing why this is happening”.
A part of you was happy about him being so mature and putting his jealousy to the side to think about your career. But you still felt hurt about the whole situation.
“I’ll think about it”.
                                 **
And you thought about it…and decided to do it. Ansu was right. And he had promised to not get jealous so it was all going to be fine.
You got to the set and Pedri was already there, so you waved at him but he was too busy on his phone.
“Boo!”
He jumped on his seat and almost drop his phone. “Don’t do that!”
“I couldn’t help it”.
He shook his head and moved the chair next to his so you could sit.
“How’s your boyfriend?”
“Hopefully dealing with his jealousy well”.
Pedri raised an eyebrow at that. “Why?”
“He didn’t tell you?”. When he shook his head you continued. “He was jealous when the press reported that there was something between us”.
“I would never try to steal my friend’s girl. Why didn’t he say anything to me?”
“He felt stupid feeling like that”.
“It was stupid”.
You both laughed and then the hair and make-up people arrived to get you ready for the shoot.
You were more used to being the main model in a shoot, not the accessory for the male model but…this was a different campaign. But still a pretty simple one. I mean, you were advertising a phone.
When you were done with the photographs, the ad director gave you a quick explanation of what the tv ad should look like. It was really hard for you to not roll your eyes when he explained how close to Pedri you needed to be the whole time. They were really playing the “they might be dating” card.
But the shoot went well. You got it done in a couple of tries and once you heard the words “it’s a wrap!”, you took your very high and painful heels off and picked up your things so you could leave. Pedri offered to drive you home again, but this time he drove you to your boyfriend’s house. And thankfully, there were no paparazzi around to make a big deal out of a friendly gesture this time.
“Hi”, said your boyfriend when he opened the door and saw it was you.
“Your friend is there”, you told him, pointing at the car.
Pedri waved at you both and you got inside the house, ready for a relaxing evening together.
                                **
It didn’t take long for the campaign to be released. And the aftermath was way worse than you had imagined.
“There is a new article every hour. What’s going on?”, you asked your manager, trying not to scream at the phone.
“My guess is the brand paid for all those articles”.
“Why did I do this?”
“Look at the check again. It’ll make you feel better”.
But no amount of money was going to make you feel better if this ruined your relationship with Ansu. He promised to not be jealous but…this was too much.
Too much for you and too much for him. You didn’t get a lot of mentions in the press, but he liked to have notifications on for anything that mentioned you. He was always the first one to congratulate you on how great your new campaigns or editorials were. Actually, he found out they had been published even before you did. He just wanted to be supportive of your career, knowing how much it meant to you. But now…now he wanted to throw the phone to the floor so it would smash.
“Ignore all that crap”, said Pedri.
“Easy for you to say”.
“Easy? Do you think I like people thinking I’m dating your girlfriend? Even if you haven’t made it public. It makes me sick”.
“I bet, yeah…”.
Ansu got up to leave. He couldn’t face his friend right now.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, I bet reading about people thinking you’re sleeping with a gorgeous model is a horrible feeling. I feel so bad for you”.
“I don’t care about that!”
“Right”, said your boyfriend, noticing his patience running out. “I don’t even know what to believe anymore”.
“You can’t be serious, bro. How can you be jealous because of this? You know I’ll never do that. And neither would she”.
He was getting a headache from this conversation and the overthinking he was doing.
“Ansu, be a dick to me all you want. But don’t do this to her”.
But he wasn’t listening anymore.
                                 **
You got to Ansu’s house feeling like a ball of nerves. He had been answering your texts but it felt…off. And then Pedri told you what happened after training.
A part of you wanted to go home but you had to face this situation now. Waiting was only going to make it worse.
“Hi”.
His sad face made you feel terrible. You expected him to be angry but not like this. On the way there you had been wondering how to approach this. But his eyes told you the answer was to hug him.
“I know I shouldn’t feel like this but I can’t stop it”.
“I get it. Let’s go sit down so we can talk”.
At the mention of talking, he tensed. Were you going to break up with him? Jealousy was the reason why a lot of couples had to end their relationship.
“Be honest with me, my love. Why are you jealous? If it was someone else, I could understand it. But you know Pedri is your friend and will never do that to you. Even if you didn’t trust me…you have to trust him”.
“I trust you”, he whispered and you took his hand so you could hold it.
“Then what is it?”
He hadn’t allowed himself to think about it before. It was easy to just blame it on being jealous. But there was a reason for his behaviour.
“Why don’t you want people to know about us?”
“You know the reason. I want to wait until my career is more successful so I can feel like I got this on my own, not because of you. We’ve talked about it…”.
“But you accepted this job”.
He was confusing you even more now. “You insisted I did”.
“But you knew this was going to happen”.
“And so did you. Ansu…I…”.
You got up to pace around the sofa because you didn’t understand what exactly he was accusing you of at that moment.
“Stop. Come here, please”.
Even though it took a lot of effort, you sat down again. But didn’t want to hold his hand for the time being.
“First, I was hurt because the rumours were with another player. And I felt like if we made our relationship public, people will still mention you and Pedri had a thing before we got together. And that would probably make people send abuse to you and…it worried me”.
“That I can understand”, you said. “But what was the issue now?”
“I guess it bothered me that even if you knew rumours were going to be created, you still took the job. Like you didn’t mind people speculating about you and Pedri but you’re extra careful when it comes to me”.
You hadn’t even thought about any of those issues but…it made sense that he reacted to the situation if he felt that way. Maybe it was a bit of an overreaction still but it made some sense. At least.
“Do you think I’m embarrassed by you or something?”
He tried to look away but you caught his chin before he could do it.
“I’m not. I love you and I love what we have. I’m sorry if my wanting to keep this private hurt you in any way but that was never my intention”.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you with my jealousy either…”.
“So we settle it at we’re both dumb?”, you asked, laughing. And when you noticed a little smile on his face, your chest tightened.
“What do I need to do to prove to you how proud I am of our relationship?”
He looked at you hoping this would finally be the time when you said yes.
“Can we make our relationship public?”
“We can”.

Sometimes I feel like I am a guy trying to plug a hole in the Hoover dam with my pinky finger. Anyways. Here is what you actually need to know about paragraph length, sentence length, and the like:
Yes, the rule is TECHNICALLY that you’re supposed to start a new paragraph with each new action or thought. However. On a more basic level, a paragraph is just a group of sentences that are conveying the same idea, and there are one million ways to skin that cat. For instance, here is an excerpt from a personal essay I wrote a while back:
Tumblr media
Here it is again:
Tumblr media
And here it is again:
Tumblr media
All of these are technically correct, but they read slightly different. The first one reads faster than the other two, and the ideas in the paragraph blend and bleed together a little more. The middle one is much more measured and even. And the last version reads very slowly and dramatically, with heavy emphasis on certain words and phrases. What makes these three passages read so differently is the length of the paragraphs. Readers tend to pick up the pace during long paragraphs, and slow down quite a bit when they get to shorter paragraphs. Additionally, you’ll notice that the two one-word paragraphs add a TON of emphasis to those words. This is because they’re so visually distinct AND extremely short.
The trick to formatting your paragraphs is NOT following an imprecise rule that is frequently difficult to apply to your own writing. The trick is to vary the length of your paragraphs.
This:
Tumblr media
And this:
Tumblr media
are both equally annoying. The version without any paragraph breaks goes on and on, and eventually you get tired of reading it. The version with TOO MANY paragraph breaks feels like it’s shouting at you, because every sentence is so important it deserves its own paragraph. Formatting paragraphs is, first and foremost, about including enough variation to keep people interested and paying attention.
And this exact same principle is true of sentence length. If you scroll back up and look at the pic where I put every sentence on its own line, you’ll notice very quickly that there’s a lot of variation there. Some sentences are one word, some are three lines long, and most fall somewhere in the middle. This is intentional. It keeps the reader engaged. If you look closely at this paragraph, you’ll see that I’m doing it in here, too.
The reason for this is identical to why varying your paragraph lengths is a good idea. Long sentences move quickly, short sentences slow the reader’s pace and add emphasis, and medium sentences keep the reader at a comfortable, easy pace. You can use long sentences to add urgency, a sense that time is moving quickly, or a level of confusion as the reader tries to decipher your six line sentence. Short sentences pack a punch. It’s the difference between a freeze frame and an establishing shot. You can use the rhythm and meter of spoken language to help out with this as well. Most people sort of instinctively vary their sentences in length, tone, and emphasis. Nobody irl is speaking to one another in a series of five-word sentences because it sounds robotic and disgusting. If you write in the natural cadence you use in spoken language, you will automatically vary your sentences enough to keep a reader interested.
One thing to note about this is that the emphasis sentence and paragraph lengths create, much like any other fun writing trick, is like cayenne pepper or salt. No emphasis is bland, but too much makes your writing inedible. Figuring out how to season your drafts is a process that you can only complete through experimentation.
This is why you patently SHOULD NOT listen to writing advice that is broad, basic, or positioned as universally applicable. Everybody has their own preferences wrt spice and salt! Two people can look at an identical work of art, and can very easily get into an argument online about whether it’s bland or over seasoned, because they fundamentally have different standards. The best way to improve your writing is to learn how and why the tools in your toolkit work, experiment with them, and show other people the results.

I slept late again today.  My unhealthy lifestyle continues unabated.
I went for a short walk to check the mail.  The weather was chilly and wet.  After some consideration, I decided not to leave the apartment again after that.  I could have run some errands, but none of them were urgent, and I had food in the fridge, so I just stayed in and ate leftovers.
I spent a few hours listening to a stream while I prepared some notes for my next D&D session.  I think I’m almost done preparing for this week.  I’m kind of scared I’ll kill a player character, since some of the fights in this module are pretty brutal...  It’s a fine line to walk--it’s fun for the player to feel like they might lose, but it’s not fun to actually lose.  I guess I should just be prepared to improvise if things get too rough for them.
I also did one mildly productive thing, which was to figure out online access to the account that’s managing my health insurance during this sabbatical.  I have to pay for it, but I haven’t yet gotten a bill for this month.  After quite a bit of annoyance, I managed to figure out how to log in--this involved logging into my work email, and I could feel my stress levels rising every moment I spent in there.  Unfortunately, the bill wasn’t available yet, either--in fact, the account didn’t even seem to be linked to my benefits yet.  I’ll just have to wait for the paper bill.
Anyway.  Frustrated by that, I spent the rest of the night with Trails from Zero.  A relaxing pastime.
I feel fine tonight, I suppose.  I’m pretty tired, which would be surprising if it weren’t so late.  I’ll have to fall asleep quick if I don’t want the sun to rise on me.  Maybe I’ll consider setting an alarm so I can get something done tomorrow afternoon... maybe.

So, while I try to get the photos off the camera (forgive the poor quality, but I am not used to moving targets)
My con thoughts….
OMG! I must have been having fun. It felt like it only lasted five minutes!
I was so tired, since I ended up with only three hours sleep and woke up before the alarm, that I decided to head out a half hour before the con to minimize the traffic every bit I could. The con started at 10am, and I was there at 9:30. It ran until 5 and I got to my car at 5:10, so I guess I guess I maximized my time!
Now what’s funny is, I actually ended up the first person in! When I got there they already had lines snaking out the front of the convention center, but it turned out they were almost all folks that had purchased online and were there to check in. There was a cash line off to one side, but then a few if us noticed a cash line on the other with no one there. There was a little goof, and the guy running that side sold his tickets a few minutes early before they caught it. Three of us had bought tickets already, and the other two went off to do something. I waited at the door, so the moment they announced the con open I stepped in while all those folks lined up in the other lines were just started to get their wristbands. That will never happen again!
The good news is the con seemed well attended. The bad news is that spending was way down, judging from my many conversations with artists and dealers. That does worry me a bit. I want the con to thrive and folks to come back year after year. It’s purely selfish, of course. I need the sense of community it offers, even if it is only for a few hours once a year.
As always, I went around the room talking to all the artists, writers, makers, and the like I could. In fact it ended up taking me…you are NOT going to believe this…. 3 1/2 hours to go around the room just once! I used a lot of self control, resisting buying anything the first time. I made up for it.
I say I made up for it, and I did buy stuff, but it was like last year. Besides a gift for Mom, most of what I bought was of the “OHHH, you are so enthusiastic! Tell me all about your stuff and I’ll buy the cheapest thing you have.” sort. It had to be cheap, because I was trying to spread my money around to as many people as possible, and after buying gas I hadn’t had but so much left.
I really didn’t do any “I LOVE it! I have to have it!” buying because I’m not rich enough to do both. I could either buy those comics, stickers, buttons, etc from a dozen artists in need of a bit of love OR I could have bought that cool handmade felt hat decorated with mushrooms that I sighed over every time I passed.
That’s fine. What isn’t fine is how guilty I felt when I’d talk to folks and not buy anything. I don’t know which made me feel more rotten, when the artist is super delightful as they gush about the work but I can’t afford it OR when it is someone I have bought from before, and who remembered me, but I couldn’t afford anything.
Heck, one guy had a nice conversation with me about science fiction media mags from out day, and was the ONLY person I have ever met that was a Video Watchdog fan like me, AND gave me candy because I looked like I could use it…then I didn’t buy his new book just because I didn’t have enough left in my wallet.
And yet at the end of the day, what did I do? I grabbed a dejected guy leaving and hour early and told him I had been wanting to buy something of his, and then spent $5 on a photo he’d taken of the New Bern waterfront and awkwardly printed out and glued to card paper. Because, darn it, he can learn better ways to print his photos, and yet undoubtedly not making enough to pay for his booth might discourage him from trying again.
I’m weak. I can’t help it. I wish I were rich enough to buy something from everyone, but I’m not, and I shouldn’t feel guilty.
But I am too good at guilt! LOL At the big cons like Heroes I never felt this way, but then I didn’t have conversations to make it all up close and personal.
Some folks remembered me from last year, and since I was wearing a mask (yes, still) it was extra surprising. Several even remembered what I had bought! Am I that memorable, even with half my face hidden?
The most astonishing discovery from conversations was that the husband half of an artist/writer couple had actually lived in Jamesville, and his mother still lives around here! That was a shock! (though finding out his parents were only a few years older than me was another kind of shock! LOL) I talked with them way too long, mostly ragging on my home town with someone that could get it.
So I yammered. A lot. To think I spent a few decades barely able to speak to strangers, and not I can’t shut up. Loneliness does weird stuff to folks.
The most surprising booth was from the NC Aquarium. I think they were enjoying themselves, though I seem to have forgotten to photography the jellyfish hat one was wearing. I did get one of a taxidermy critter in a superhero suit that they had set up.
I missed ALL the panels. I never even got to dig through any of the boxes of old comics. I didn’t mean to, I just lost track of time.
Costumes were wonderful as usual. They said they had over 85 entries in the costume contest, and not everyone in costume took part. Honestly, the one that gave me the first moment of delight for the day was a Santa/Obi Wan mashup carrying a candy cane lightsaber and a Grogu elf! But there were all sorts of fun costumes, and gimmicks during the contest, like one guy pulling a fire trick in his hands or a Spidey that shot webbing so the audience gave up a “OOOOOOO” of surprise. The fact I hadn’t a clue who half the characters were is only a reflection my pop culture ignorance caused by a lack of money or time.
And as the dealers started packing up I hobbled painfully around the convention to say goodbyes, and ask people how their con went. My feet were in agony. The ankle braces, knee brace, and wrist brace were now causing their own pain. My awkward conversational skills had only gotten more awkward as pain distracted me. And yet I hated for it to end.
I didn’t want to go. Not really.
Here I was with people passionate about the things they loved. People who made things and wrote things and collected things, things that are fantastical. Things like I like, even when they aren’t exactly the things I like. People that I can feel a sort of “like me!” that I otherwise never get to experience in the real world.
On the way home I pulled into the mall to buy a thai tea with boba to drink on the way home. I have neither had a drink like that*, nor set foot in the mall, since 2019. It was a huge indulgence, but it let me delay the post convention blues until after the drive. It was one final special thing before real life returns.
So the con is over, a blur of memory that I can barely sort out. It flew by so blindingly fast it was dizzying!
I am soooo glad I got to go. It reminded me what it felt like to go places and do things. Even though I badly fumbled conversations and made an idiot of myself, even though I didn’t get to do everything I meant, even though I spent all the money I brought….It just felt so GOOD!!!
*You have NO idea how tempting even food court take out was by then. I haven’t had take out since my birthday last December (and even then didn’t buy a drink) so my empty stomach started telling me to buy a gyro from the place next door. I resisted that at least!

an objectively correct rating of the hottest incarnations of King Shark, in honor of the The Suicide Squad trailer drop
this one’s a LEGO, so obviously he’s not hot, but I think he’s worth mentioning because it’s nice that he does a little dance with his shark friends! also, look at that confidence. that’s a man who’s having a good time and loves his shod (shark bod), and we love to see it!
Tumblr media
DC Superhero girls is a lot of fun, but jesus christ - they made my man look like a Land Before Time villain.
Tumblr media
few characters escape the Arrwoverse unscatched, and unfortunately that includes King Shark. in the Flash Season Zero comics he just looks like a straight up pool toy. then again, this is a mutated scientist named Shay Lambden and not our good good boy Nanaue who’s the son of the Shark God, so I guess you get what you pay for.
Tumblr media
he didn’t fare much better in the TV series proper, which unfortunately rendered him as a CGI monstrosity who got his ass handed to him on a platter by Gorilla Grodd. I will give him a little credit for undoubtedly eating up a tremendous chunk of the effects budget every time he (pun intended) surfaces.
Tumblr media
allow me to preface this by saying I like Assault on Arkham, I like how John DiMaggio plays the role, and I even enjoy his relationship with Killer Frost. but oh my god, why does he look like this? this isn’t a shark, this is a man with problems disorder. NEXT.
Tumblr media
credit where credit is due: this is a powerfully slutty outfit, and I appreciate the dedication to showing off the shabs (shark abs). but from most angles his face just ends up looking goofy (second image included for reference) and frankly? not enough teeth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it seems like the character designers at DC Universe Online couldn’t decide if they wanted King Shark to be hot or scary, and tried to have it both ways to devastatingly lackluster results. this is just a really ugly King Shark.
Tumblr media
ah, the movie that prompted this list in the first place!  I’m keeping an open mind for 2icide Squad, but based on the trailer alone this King Shark seems just a lil too doofy for me. I’m glad he’s having a good time wandering around eating people! I hope he has a lot of fun doing unspeakable acts of violence! but alas, I have no desire to smooch him.
Tumblr media
this doesn’t do much for me personally, but I appreciate how much is going on with his design in the Young Justice tie-in comics! also I don’t think he was strictly a villain here, he mostly just wanted to eat people who committed fantasy racism against Atlanteans who are fish people. obviously boo for the death penalty and all that, but he made a few points and wore some cute little booty shorts while he was at it.
Tumblr media
Stjepan Šejić’s King Shark has what the DC Universe Online King Shark desperately wanted. he’s hot but in a way that feels kind of lazy, so human that finding it attractive feels like playing on easy mode. nipples are a bold choice, and not necessarily in a good way. still, points for the distinctive look of the hammerhead and the tight pants suggesting that this King Shark actually has something to cover.
Tumblr media
I have to mention this particular image just because I will literally NEVER get tired of the trope where a big hulking monster-looking character is revealed to be curious, sensitive, and maybe even a bit academic when he’s not ripping people in half. excellent work, love to see it.
Tumblr media
I LOVE a chatty King Shark, and more importantly Gail Simone loves a chatty King Shark. it may not be the most inspired design in his colorful history, but damn if Gail can’t make anyone and anything charming. nice simple outfit + winning sense of humor = this King Shark can’t lose.
Tumblr media
leaving aside the fact that he spends his entire debut attacking Superboy at his twinkiest, which feels a bit homophobic, this outfit really goes off. STRONG first impression from Mr. Nanaue here, I can tell he’s feeling himself.
Tumblr media
I don’t even play video games, but the entire trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is sexy, and its version of King Shark is not exception. it’s not the most inspired design ever, but I like it. his snout says shark without being so big it’s goofy goofy or stopping his from being expressive, I enjoy King Sharks that are clothed, and the tattoos are a nice homage to his Polynesian voice actor. plus, I love when King Shark is actually smart enough to be bitchy and banter with his teammates.
Tumblr media
the animated Harley Quinn series has a really different take on King Shark, and it’s one that I like a lot. he’s a soft friendly nerd who happens to be a big shark man! look at that smile! and even better, he’s maybe the only version of King Shark who doesn’t seem actively dangerous to have sex with. 10/10, I would date this King Shark.
Tumblr media
this guy was always going to be the winner. design is incredible from top to bottom, blending his shark and anthro elements with incredible precision and tying it together with a crop top. sex appeal aside, this is genuinely appealing character design. and he’s queer, which we all know automatically adds a +100 to your sexy score! unlike the previous honoree he seems EXTREMELY dangerous to bone down with, and I guess that’s just a risk I’m willing to take. I don’t I agree with John Constantine often, but I too would let this King Shark rail me.

hi can u do a headcanon of the brothers with a mc scared to go to school because they are suffering from bullying? if its not much to ask <33
Tumblr media
W/ MC who is afraid of school bullies
a/n: I don’t know if I say this often enough but if anybody at all is being bullied or just needs to talk about their life in general my dms are open and I will gladly listen to you. I also didn’t proofread this to make sure these make sense so pls don’t hate me I’m just tired
Warnings!!: Bullying, anxiety, depression, weight shaming, violence
Summary: MC suddenly starts to avoid going to their classes at RAD which leads to the brother in question having to do a mini-investigation and comfort MC after the heartbreaking truth he discovers
Tumblr media
- One morning he went to wake up MC for school and suddenly they claimed they were sick despite not showing any symptoms
- He assumed they were being lazy and scolded them and forced them to get up, but just before they reached the campus they fell to their knees and started crying.
- He immediately escorted them to the student council room and sat them down. After some questioning he gets a basic idea of what’s been happening.
- He feels guilty for not noticing sooner, but he pushes aside his shame to comfort MC in that moment
- He will tell MC he’s proud of them for staying strong for this long but that he’s concerned why they wouldn’t tell him
- He lets MC go home early before he heads back to R.A.D.
- The bullies seem to have suddenly gone missing the next day
- ((((They’re in Lucifer’s torture chamber learning what is means to mess with HIS human)))
Tumblr media
- Mammon is sitting in a class across the school from MC when he suddenly gets a text from one of the succubi in MC’s class asking where the human was
- He was confused because he had walked them to class
- He excuses himself and wanders the corridor where MC was meant to be.
- He hears a faint sniffle and realizes it’s coming from the ladies restroom.
- After alerting anybody else who might be in there, he goes in with his eyes closed and locks the door behind him.
- He finds MC in a stall, curled up on the ground sniffling and shoulders shaking from the small sobs.
- He decides the public bathroom floor isn’t the best place to be sitting so he picks them up and heads back to the dorms as quick as his wings can bring him
- Will cuddle with MC and listen to them until they eventually end up crying themselves to sleep
- Mammon decides to go pay a visit to the bullies and lets his demon form take over for once and he ends up knocking them out (before pickpocketing them just for fun)
Tumblr media
- Levi hears MC knock something over in their room while he’s in the middle of an online class, so he hangs up on the class and heads over to their room.
- “Hey normie, why are you home?!”
- He is shocked to see them crying on the floor next to a broken pot
- They mumble to themselves and all he can make out is something about the bullies being right about them destroying everything they touch
- Levi can only stand there in shock for a moment, but then he realizes he needs to act, so he instinctively wraps his arms around them and shush them, rocking their shaking body back and forth gently
- Though he is flustered and freaking out about having MC in his arms, he knows they are hurting and he needs to push himself through that nervousness
- He will bring them to his room so they can distract themselves by watching the fish in his aquarium to calm the nerves
- When he finds out who the normies that hurt HIS normie are he gives names to Lucifer and asks him to do something about those students or let MC do homeschool like himself
Tumblr media
- He knew MC had seemed shaky and as if something was bothering them at breakfast
- But he wasn’t expecting to walk in on them being beat to a bloody pulp and taunted by a group of lesser demons.
- He loses his cool in less than a second, going feral and attacking all the demons surrounding the now unconscious human
- He picks MC up and sprints away as fast as his full demon form will allow him to back to the House of Lamentation
- He washes and covers MC’s wounds, watching over them while their body rests
- When they wake up he demands an explanation and to know why they didn’t ask for help from him or his brothers
- The more MC tells him about what they’d been doing to the poor human the more he wished he’d tortured the demons before slaughtering them on the spot
- He reads to them and holds them most of the night, not daring to let go of them as though they’d get hurt again without him keeping a vice grip
Tumblr media
- Asmodeus had been a bit confused when MC stopped hanging around him at school
- He was also really sad and thought they hated him, so he decided to ask them about it
- He goes to their room and opens the door without knocking  only to be met with their red puffy eyes and tear stained cheeks
- He sees them fling their phone across the room as if they didn’t want him to see it, so he decides to pick it up despite MC’s protests
- There he sees texts flooding in from his friend group who usually hung around him during school
- At first he thinks they may be bonding but then he uses his brain and stops functioning as he sees the threats and insults being hurled at MC for no reason at all
- He shuts MC’s phone off and feels relieved that they don’t hate him, but rather his friends, who deserved to be hated.
- But he also feels guilty because the texts seemed to be the friends threatening MC for “stealing” Asmo away from them
- He pampers them all night and does a spa sleepover with MC in his room.
- After they go to bed he asks Levi for some help with hacking into the D.D.Ds of his friends so that he can spread their embarrassing secrets and absolutely demolish their social life
- Anytime he sees them in the hallways of RAD, he pulls MC closer to his side and whispers into their ear, making fun of his former friends
Tumblr media
- Beelzebub notices MC eating less and less, growing pale and more tired than usual
- He tries to subtly make them feel better by trying to share his snacks and taking them on adventures but nothing seems to work
- Eventually when they stop coming to school Lucifer asks Beel so figure out what is going on since MC trusts him the most
- He hangs out with MC all day, snuggling and snacking while watching movies
- Eventually he has to ask the questions so he asks when they seem to be in a good mood
- He watches their mood immediately darken and tears start to form in their eyes
- They look down and mutter out a small response, “Beelzebub. Do you think I’m fat?”
- He couldn’t believe the words he was hearing and he immediately wraps his strong arms around the frail human as they cried.
- “No I don’y. you’re perfect in every single way, MC. Even if you were I’d still love you because you are you... Can you tell me who has been planting these ideas in your head?”
- After getting names he tells them they won’t have to worry about the bullies anymore and they can come to school again because he’d protect them
- Tells Lucifer the names so he can get the demons all into a secure place where Beelzebub can make a nice meal out of them when MC falls asleep later
Tumblr media
- When MC starts to hide in their room more and more, even avoiding school, he thinks that they may have finally realized just how bad everything he did was and were trying to avoid him
- He sleeps more in hopes they’d feel comfortable coming out more if he was unconscious
- After a few days he hears from Beel that MC still hasn’t been leaving the room, and the twins grow more worried than the already were
- Lucifer eventually forced MC to go back to classes after about a week of staying holed up in their room
- Belphie stayed home that day, having overslept once again
- He was woken up by a trembling and sniveling figure crawling its way between his arms to nuzzle his chest
- He immediately wakes up and asks MC if they’re hurt and examines them to make sure they are at least physically okay
- When MC explains that they had been staying home to avoid the bullies and when they came back the bullies were worse than usual, he can’t help the fact his demon form takes over
- He texts Beel all the info he can get out of MC, knowing his brother would handle the situation better than he ever could
- He holds MC all night, occasionally letting out soft praises about how much he loves them and how perfect and kind they are to everyone around them

summary: balancing college life and wanting to support your best friends online endeavors was difficult, but reader regrets trying a little harder when she finally meets one of her newer stream-mates

WARNINGS: she/her pronouns used, coarse language, lowkey OOC Corpse, that needs its own warning i’m sorry,

“Look you knew I had to stream before I said you could come over ya fuckin idiot.”
“Yea I knowwwww, I just wanted to spend more time with my super-hot best friend forever.”
Being the best friend of an online personality had its perks— the amazing trips you got to hitch a ride on, the adoring fans that seemed to latch on to you as well, the sponsorships that would always send you something along with the original PR package, and especially the way she was able to choose their own work hours.
Well... mostly.
As much as you adored spending time together during the day, whether it be shopping or going out for brunch, those late nights that always seemed to hold the most memories you held so dear were few and far between. Of course, you couldn’t blame her; responsibilities were responsibilities, and fuck if you’d let your selfish wants override the way she chooses to get her work done. You really couldn’t be one to judge either-- having to call off dates because you’d underestimated the time you needed to complete a school paper, or when a last-minute lab was called in and you’d have to leave her sitting alone in those cafes with your half-finished mocha and a promise to Venmo her the money to cover it later. What left you feeling the most guilty, though, was the fact that you weren’t able to watch her content as much as you’d like to. Sure, you’d catch a few minutes of a stream here and there but any time you spent apart was usually spent with your head buried in a book, mind bleary with countless espresso shots trying to keep your tired eyes focused on the seemingly unending work in front of you.
But, a distraction every now and then couldn’t hurt. Right?
Having had enough of your current assignment, any coherent thought was long gone, you’d decided to pay your favourite person a little visit. You knew she’d probably be busy as she hadn’t replied to your previous text for a few hours, but knowing her presence alone and any passing comments would lift the heaviness that had found its home in your head and chest, you shot her a message to let her know that her office couch would be occupied by you for the next few hours. Normally, you’d just show up so you knew she wouldn’t have a problem with it; so when that fateful message popped up on your phone giving you the go-ahead you completely ignored the warning of her work schedule and drove right over.
So now here you were, sprawled haphazardly on her couch clad in sweats and a sports bra scrolling through your phone as you watched her finish her final touches so she could start her stream.
“You’re gonna be in the background of my face cam if you wanna sit there y’know.” Groaning in response to her warning not wanting to move from the comfy spot you just found, you looked over at her with the best puppy eyes you could muster. She chuckled softly, raising her hands in surrender as she turned back to her setup. “Hey I really don’t care, just warning ya bug. The thirst comments and screenshots are outta my hands.”
Scoffing under your breath at her comment, you turned your head back to your phone as a Twitter notification popped up at the top of your screen.
Corpse Husband: streaming among us in a few mins, join in on youtube
Heartbeat picking up slightly, you scrambled for the purse you’d thrown at the base of the couch for your headphones. Ever since you’d found this handsome-voiced stranger’s channel on your late night horror binges, you had fallen completely in love. While you weren’t typically the type to watch video game commentary outside of Rae, his voice got you completely hooked and you couldn’t get enough of it. Yeah, maybe you were a bit of a simp, but that sweet and genuine personality that hid behind that gravelly tone had you melting completely into his clutches. You tried to convince yourself to get over it, you didn’t even know what he looked like. But, y’know, a little crush wouldn’t hurt anybody right?
“Going live in T-minus 30 seconds babe.” Jumping slightly as Rae’s voice knocked you out of dreamland, you mumbled out a small “got it” as you once again got focused on getting your headphones connected to your phone. You’d never been able to watch one of his lives before, his horror commentary videos usually playing as background noise as you did schoolwork or while you were falling asleep. Practically shaking with excitement, you opened your YouTube app seeing the live at the very top and tapping on it immediately only to be met with that sweet laugh ringing through your headphones like music to your ears. You grinned to yourself, grabbing the throw pillow you had previously tossed to the floor and hugging it to your chest while your eyes remained glued to your phone screen, completely forgetting what was happening around you as you zeroed in on the gravelly tone you’d fallen oh-so in love with.
“Hey (Y/N) wave hi.” You startled slightly as the faint voice of your friend sounded from across the room. Glancing up from your phone, you pulled an earbud from your ear and furrowed your brows at her before slowly processing what she said, lifting a hand in greeting to her watchers. She laughed at your confusing antics, turning slightly in her chair to look over at you. “What the hell are you so smiley about?”
“…Nothing..” You grinned widely as her laugh once again resounded around the room, shaking her head at you before turning back to her screen with a scoff, muttering something under her breath so only her watchers could hear. Smile still plastered across your lips, you settled back down into the comfiness of the couch and popped your earbud back in, zeroing in again on the screen in front of you. Watching as Corpse moved his character around the lobby as he waited for his friends to join, a small giggle escaped from under your breath; trying your best to be mindful of Rae’s stream but not being able to hold back the flustered feeling welling up in your chest, mind giddy with the thought of finally being able to see one of his famous live streams, well, live. It had only been a few seconds later when you heard Rae’s voice once again, only this time, not as muffled as before.
“What’s up motherfuckers.” Brows furrowing in confusion, you lifted your hand to your earbud and pulled it from your ear once again, hearing her voice from across the room but from your other earbud as well. No, there was no fucking way. All your questions were answered, though, as you glanced back down at your phone screen seeing a red character move around the game lobby along with Corpse’s, the gamer tag ‘Valkyrae’ floating just above it. Blinking hard at your screen trying to convince yourself that your eyes were lying to you, you slowly pulled your hand to cover your mouth in shock. How… How could you possibly not know they knew each other? With the way they spoke to each other in sarcastic comments, poking fun at the other it sounded like they were close too. Body finally catching up with your thoughts, you scrambled at your phone, shaky hands moving as quickly as they could to pull up your texts with Rae. Your fingers tapped furiously at the screen, anxious to get back to the live stream to listen in more but also needing to know what the fuck was going on.
TO my rae of sunshine: care to explain what the fuck is going on??! how the fuck do you know corpse husband?????!??!
“Oops sorry guys, guess I forgot to turn off my phone ringer-“ Staring up at the back of her head helplessly, you watched as she picked up her phone seeming to read out the text before bursting into a peal of laughter. Tossing a look at you over her shoulder, you looked back down at your phone bashfully, seeing the three loading dots in your message thread indicating that she was messaging you back.
my rae of sunshine: lol what about it? you gotta crush on him or something?
TO my rae of sunshine: …no
Hitting send you rushed back to the stream, anxious to see what Corpse was saying in response to Rae’s absence, not thinking anything about your brief conversation and thinking you would discuss it after she had logged off for the night. Though, as you heard her phone chime again from across the room followed by another bark of laughter, you knew you weren’t getting off that easy.
“What are you laughing about?” Corpse’s honeyed voice sounded from your earbud, hearing Rae’s giggles from what you presumed to be their discord voice chat. Glancing anxiously between his stream and the reflection of Rae’s face cam in one of her monitors, your heart began to sink as you watched that familiar mischievous grin tugging at the edge of her lips.
“Oh just my friend (Y/n) sent me a funny meme”
“Wait, is she the one in some of your Instagram posts?” You swear your heart stopped beating at that moment, eyes glued to the screen in front of you as you tried helplessly to process the conversation happening right in front of you. He knew who you were? You thought you’d always be lost among the hundreds of thousands of his new adoring fans, left in the anonymity of your Twitter tag in his subtweets, or just another subscriber that fawned over him silently behind a keyboard. Knowing that he’d actually seen your face you could feel your own beginning to heat at that moment; you brought your hands your mouth again, unknowingly curling your body tighter around the pillow in your lap as you tried to hide your face behind it as you become more and more flustered from the words nonchalantly escaping his mouth.
“Yea that’s her, pretty thing isn’t she? She’s my absolute favourite.”
That’s it, you were gonna fucking kill her.
“I mean, yeah... I guess..” The timid words followed by a soft awkward chuckle had your breath hitching in your throat. There was no fucking way this was happening. This had to be a dream, that was the only possible explanation. You were just about to pinch yourself when Rae’s voice startled you from your thoughts.
“She’s actually over right now. She insisted on getting wine drunk later tonight because her professor’s been on her ass lately. I’ll get her to come say hi.” Rae had barely turned around in her chair when she was met with your wide-eyed gaze, panic painted across your features as you shook your head wildly. You were in no state to be talking to your long-time internet crush in such a casual setting. But with the look Rae shot you from her chair as she started to plug another headset into her PC, you knew you had no choice and begrudgingly pulled yourself from the couch almost tripping over your own feet as you shakily walked over to Rae. Shooting her another pleading look, she only shoved the headset in your direction in return as she grinned up at you. Finally biting the bullet, you pulled on the headset and leaned down toward the mic.
“Hi, how’s it going?” Cursing at yourself for how quiet and shaky your words came out, you barely had any time to think it over before a chorus of greetings sounded through the headset. A small giggle escaped your lips as you watched the different Discord icons appear and disappear from the top of the screen. You knew most of these people already which made you even more confused as to how you managed to miss that voice from all the discord chats and voice calls. Well, knowing them was a bit of an overstatement anyway; you knew /of/ them, and they knew /of/ you in the other times you popped up in the background or in passing conversation during Rae’s streams. They did know you well enough, though, to know this was not the way you usually spoke around them.
“No way, that can’t be the (Y/N) I know!” The voice you recognize as Sean echoes through your headset, another chorus of knowing laughter following quickly after. Taking a deep breath you managed to force out a few words that would get them off your case.
“…Shut the fuck up”
“There she is!!” As the group erupted in laughter yet again, all you could focus on was the faint deep chuckle that resounded through your headset. Feeling your face start to heat up, you covered your wide grin with your hand as butterflies burst through your stomach; you could listen to that laugh all day. Before you were able to speak again, though, that heavenly voice piped up and wiped all train of thought from your mind.
“Nice to meet you (Y/N).”
“It’s nice to meet you too Corpse. I gotta be honest ‘n say I’m a pretty big fan of your no-sleep work.” And... there’s the word vomit. Fuck, you could feel your cheeks starting to heat up with the ongoing realization of who you were talking to.
“Aha thank you, I uh really appreciate that. I’m sure you just heard, but I guess you could say I’m a fan of yours also.”
No.
No, there’s no fucking way.
Is he...
Flirting with you?
Before you could even think about what to reply to that with, the rest of the group beat you to it.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, what is happening.”
“CORPSE! You SIMP!”
“Is- Is Corpse really shooting his shot right now?”
You didn’t realize you were frozen in place until you felt Rae’s hand on your elbow, snapping you out of your bewildered trance as you tried to comprehend what was happening yourself. As your thoughts finally caught up to the present, you could feel your cheeks start to burn; pulling your hand up to cover your face you stepped out of the view of the face cam. Rae’s laughter filled the room as she watched your flustered antics, shooting you a sly grin as she started scanning the monitor displaying her live chat.
“Wait, wait, chats telling me (y/n)’s blushing right now?” Sean’s voice echoed through the discord chat, only making you flush further as you tried desperately to find a way out of this.
“Okay, okay, leave her alone.” Corpse’s voice finally piped up amid all of the chaos causing everyone to immediately pipe down. God, you didn’t even want to begin to think of the mess this has already made, you just needed to get out of there before you caused any more damage.
“Yeah, I uh- see- see that the lobby’s full so I’ll just uh- leave you guys to it.” Quietly thanking the stars that Corpse finally got you out of this mess, you went to pull the headset off your ears when that fateful voice piped up again.
“Wait, don’t let these nerds make you leave. You should stay- I mean, only to help Rae y'know? She needs it.”
“I do not!”
“I- I mean yea sure, as long as I’m not intruding,” Cursing yourself again for stuttering before forcing yourself to swallow the knot in your throat, “I mean, she really does need the help.”
“Okay just because you want to flirt some more doesn’t mean you can bully me-“
“Okay, I’m starting the round!” The booming accented voice cut off everyone else in the call as you all stared as the screen began to count down to the game, and before anyone had the chance to say anything else a chorus of laughs resounded, and then the lobby fell into silence.
•••
And it went on like that, the not-so-subtle flirting followed by relentless jabs from the group immediately after. The game was almost forgotten with how much of each lobby was taken up by teasing words and endless laughter, but every audience was just eating it up. You didn’t even want to think about the mess social media was going to be after this stream but right now you were having fun with your friends and that’s all that mattered. The grin was practically plastered on your face as you laughed along with Rae the chat during the gameplay portions and you knew everything from this moment on was gonna be different, but you couldn’t find a single thing within you to care.
Especially when you logged onto Twitter right after the stream and saw that little message right at the top of your requests.
@.corpsehusband: wanna hear some of that no sleep work in person?

The Altar
Ateez San x Reader
Genre: smut, candy shop au
Cw: smut, San likes it when you say his name
Rating: R
Word count: 5 k
Thanks to @yutasgalaxy for giving feedback. I changed a lot since you read it xD
“You should really go there.”
Your friend’s voice still rang in your ears. These words had been said to you so often lately. Your friend had heard good things about it, although you suspected it was first-hand experience. You felt frustrated about the lack of men in your life. It was hard to meet someone new and the few times you had actually met a nice guy, they had not been interested in you. Afterwards you felt the drought in your bed even more than usual. Maybe it was time. Time to go there. The Candy Shop.
You went to the address your friend provided. That was the first unusual thing. When you had looked for it online, you had not been able to find an address. How could there be a place that can not be found on the internet? The building was as mundane as a grey house between other grey houses could be. The entrance did not look like a shop either. The window next to the door was small and drapes obscured the view inside. Only the “open” sign at the door indicated that this was the right place.
You opened the door, and a bell announced your entrance to the empty room. It was a small space for a store, and it was filled to the brim with boxes. Boxes on shelves, boxes on the floor, in giant box towers, boxes hanging in nets from the ceiling. The oddest thing was their color; all of the boxes were the same warm grey. No writing. No pictures. How did anyone know what was inside the boxes? Maybe I’m wrong here? You turned to leave.
“Oh, there you are.”
The voice came from behind you and it sounded familiar. The woman looked exactly how you remembered her, Ms Lee, who had been your homeroom teacher in middle school. She wore a tie-dye tank top that showed off her wrinkly arms.
“Ms Lee?”
She smiled like a proud mother, not something you wanted to see in a sex toy shop. Her smile had always been an attractive feature of her. You could see why she had been the most popular widow at the school.
“No, dear. I’m the Owner.”
Even her voice sounded the same. At least you thought she sounded like Ms Lee. On the other hand it had been years since you had see her.
“Oh, excuse me.”
You could have sworn that she was your old teacher, but she was not. Good. Imagine running into your old teacher in a shop like this. Awkward.
“Ehm, I’m looking for something.”
There was no point in feeling embarrassed now. You had already entered the sex shop, but you still felt your face burn. If you act awkward, it will just be more embarrassing. Get it together! You were about to elaborate further when she said:
“Of course. I think I have just the thing. Follow me.”
How could the owner sound so confident, when you had not given her any information? She turned around and walked to the counter in the back of the shop, and you followed. Surprisingly the counter was not made out of boxes stacked on top of each other but from wood.
“Wait here, please.”
The Owner went behind the counter and left through a door. The side room too seemed to be filled with boxes, as much as you could see of it. You still wondered how she knew what was in each box. Did they all have the same things inside? Maybe there had been a shipment of something, and now it clogged up the place? She returned with a smile on her face.
“Here.”
She held the thing out for you, and without thinking, you took it from her. Why did you do that?
“A walking stick?”
The long wooden stick was knobbly and looked like it had been a small tree that someone debarked. It was not carved but it had grown relatively straight. The surface was polished and waxed, shining in the dim light of the shop.
“Yes. You should go and have a picnic.”
You stared at the stick and back to her incredulously. This must be a joke.
“But-”
“No problem,” The Owner waved you off. “That’s on the house. Have fun.”
She smiled before leaving through the door behind the counter. The lock clicked into place you were alone with your stick.
“...should I stick this in my butt or what?”
You shouted after her but the Owner did not return. Reluctantly, you left and went home.
Tumblr media
That night you had a dream about your childhood house where your parents used to live. It was small and cozy in a tiny town near the mountains.
The mountains.
Yes, you missed going up the hidden paths to the tops of the small mountains. The forest that covered them had been your place to play when you had lived there. You had spent the years of your childhood running around in the undergrowth. In your dream the sun was shining from a bright blue sky that only came in autumn. You walked up the mountain as you had done many times. It was not clear to you if this was a memory or not but you almost felt the sun burn on your face. You reached the top of the mountain in what felt like a record time. Here stood a bench that overlooked the valley and your hometown. It was beautiful.
When you woke up, the dream had left a hole in you. You yarned for the home, that was not your home any more. You decided that you would go there.
Today. Now.
You got dressed, packed an overnight bag and ate a big breakfast. The ride to the town would take two hours, but you did not know if you would be able to return to your apartment in time. Hiking was exhausting and maybe you would be too tired to drive back to the city.
You grabbed the walking stick and went to your car. The drive was familiar. You had done it lots of times. Today the time flew and you found yourself pulling into the parking lot of the only supermarket of your hometown.
Maybe I should get some food? I will be hungry when I’m up there. You looked at the mountain that barely classified as one. Today the air was humid and mist hung over the forest beyond the town limits. Thegrey sky looked about ready to release more on the land. You did not really pay attention to what you bought. The old man at the counter looked up and smiled. You paid and left the store.
The parking lot where the hiking paths started was empty. It had just rained and most people had stayed at home. You packed the food and drinks into your backpack.
The path was slippery and your shoes sank a few centimeters with every step. This made the hike much harder and slower than you had expected. You knew the path well, even after all this time, your body moved on its own now. Pulling one foot out of the mud and planting it further up the path. Repeat with the other foot. In the forest you saw some trees that had fallen over. This was always the case of course but they were different from last time you had been here.
Some time later you found yourself at a bench, and stopped there to drink something. The next part would be a bit steeper so you pulled out the walking stick.
The ground was wet and the path was getting muddier the higher up you went. Maybe I should take a short cut to the top? If you went straight through the trees here, you would be there faster than following the path. You were impatient today and turned left into the forest.
The ground here was less muddy but you had to step more carefully. Holes in the ground could be hidden by dead leaves and small plants. Breaking your ankle in the middle of the forest did not sound like a good idea. The forest smelled of the herbs that grew all over the place. You considered picking some of them, but you were not sure which ones were really eatable. Ahead the trees grew less dense.
In the glade you saw something and walked closer to check it out. It was a slab of stone that was overgrown by moss and vines. You examined the stone closer and you noticed the top was smooth and the sides were covered in patterns. It was not an ordinary stone; It was an altar.
The altar of a forgotten deity. Lost in the forest and being consumed by nature without the care of the believers.
I don’t believe in gods, but it feels like I should pay my respects. You never know.
You set your backpack down next to the altar and picked up a stick that was lying on the ground. The moss grew mostly on the sides which would not be easy to clean but the top should be easier. You used the stick to scrape off the vines and grime that had accumulated there. It did not come off well but at least the altar looked a bit better than before. You drank some water from your bottle and looked into your backpack.
Maybe I should leave some offerings too?
You picked up a leaf and used it as a makeshift plate for the rice. The red apple and one of the little desserts would have to do.
“Have a good day.”
You returned to the car without having been to the top. It was still light outside so you decided to drive back to your apartment. You felt exhausted but you really wanted to sleep in your own bed.
When you arrived the sun had set and you were about to fall asleep. You fell into your bed and passed out, sleeping like the proverbial stone.
Tumblr media
The next day was Sunday which was good. No work. No need to get out of bed either.
You showered, made yourself a quick breakfast and got back under your warm blanket. Sunday morning was the perfect time to do nothing. You turned on the tv and continued to watch the drama you had started the prior week.
The couple got together in this episode and it made you feel so single. Seeing them kiss on screen made you miss kissing. Yeah, just kissing. What a lie. You paused the video. Maybe I should watch some porn instead? It still bugged you that your trip to the Candy Shop had been so fruitless. Why did you get a walking stick? The stick. You had not taken it with you. It was probably still next to the altar in the forest. Ah, well, my dildo will have to do. Getting off with it was nice, but it was not the same as having sex with a guy. For a moment you thought about the pretty male lead in the drama. How nice it would be to run your hands over his face and body. Sadly, this was not very realistic. I will go on tinder on Monday.
“Is it too much to ask for a cute, caring boyfriend to have hot sex with?”
You groaned and looked at the ceiling as if that was where your fate would be decided. It did not answer.
“That’s your wish‽”
You almost jumped out of bed. The voice came from your right, the side of the bed that had just been empty. It was not anymore. The man blended into the white sheets with his white clothing. Your heart hammered in your chest.
“What the fuck?!” You shouted. “How did you get in here? Who are you? Get out!”
You backed away. There was no bed left behind you. You fell over backwards but did not hit the ground. Your hand was caught in an iron grip.
“Don’t hurt yourself.”
The man pulled you back into the bed. It brought you close to him. He had long hair that was tied at the top of his head. Something you expected to see in a historical drama not in your bedroom. He had a stunningly beautiful face. Intense eyes, full lips and a sharp jawline.
Why are all hot guys psychos?
“Let go!”
“You will fall again.”
His voice was so gentle it made your heart skip a beat. It was familiar, like a deja vu. This was not someone you had met before, but it still seemed like you knew him. Get it together, the guy broke into your house, don’t be lulled in by his looks.
“How did you get in here?”
You did not know what to do. He held your wrists in his hands, but you backed away as far as possible. Was he going to do something to you?
“I followed you. Yesterday.”
He said it as if it was the normal thing in the world. You stared at him, open mouthed. He had been here since yesterday? Your blood turned to ice. His grip was still holding your wrists. If he had not you would have fallen out of bed now.
“You cleaned the altar so nicely it woke me up from my sleep. It’s been ages since anyone left an offering there.”
The altar. How did he know about that? There had been no one there aside from you.
“Let me go and leave.”
He stared into your eyes. Nothing was hidden from that stare. You wanted to look away but could not. As if hypnotized you stared into his eyes. They were not brown as you had assumed, but a very dark green, like the pine trees at night.
“That’s not what you wished for.”
He kissed one of your hands. His lips were soft but the gesture sent a shiver down your spine. Some part of you was responding to his touch while your higher reasoning was screaming to get away.
“Who are you?”
Your voice was only a whisper, but in the quiet room it was as loud as a scream. He looked at you, reading your face like a book. You did not know if it would be better to show your fear or hide it. What would make him leave?
“I am the mountain.”
He puffed out his chest a bit as he said that. The mountain. What kind of name was that? You had known everyone who had lived in your hometown and no one was called San. Maybe he was a tourist who happened to be in the forest? Then it struck you. The altar. The mountain, San. This man was not a man at all. He was the god of the mountain and you had brought him to your home. That’s what you get from being nice, an uninvited guest. Great.
“And I decided to grant your wish.”
You were not ready to process any new information, but here he was, talking. Was it even possible that this man was the god of the mountain? No one had seen you in the forest. You had been alone yesterday evening and just now when you had made breakfast, the door had still been locked. So unless he broke into your apartment just now… no, you had not heard or seen anything out of the ordinary.
“You doubt me.”
San was clearly disappointed in your lack of faith. He stared at you, waiting for you to explain yourself. You had every right to be suspicious of some random dude who claimed to be a god.
“Yes.”
He nodded slowly and looked around your bedroom. The little pout on his face made him look cuter and less scary, but he was still plenty scary. He let go of your hands and left the room. Maybe I should run for it. You sprang from the bed and in a few steps you were at the bedroom door. Where you almost ran into San. He was both taller and shorter than you had expected. Just like the mountain. His legs were longer than usual for someone his height.
“Here.”
In his hand was the basil plant you had bought a few days ago. It did not look too hot. The leaves had started to hang down and some were already crumpeling.
“Yeah, I should throw it out...”
San was appalled.
“But it’s still alive!! Look!”
He stared at the plant and it became healthy again. With your mouth open you stared at the plant. Its leaves were full and beautifully green again. The smell of basil filled the room.
“So you believe me now?”
The smug smile on his face was almost too much. You nodded reluctantly. San brought the plant back to the kitchen, while you sank down on the bed. There is a deity in my apartment. San sat down on the bed next to you.
“So, what was my wish?”
What dumb shit have I wished for? A smile so mischievous it made the hairs in your neck stand appeared on his face. He leaned closer and whispered in your ear:
“Hot sex.”
Oh fuck. The reason why you had gone to the Candy Shop had been to get something nice for you. It had been so long since you had been with someone. Sex with a good looking guy sounded so good. San was here and he was offering to give you what you wanted. But wait.
“Didn’t I say “a cute boyfriend”?”
San pursed his lips. “Technically, you did. ‘Cute and caring’”
“So, then where is my boyfriend?”
You pushed your jaw forward in a defiant manner. If you were going to get your wish, it had to be the right one. There was no way he could just make a guy appear out of thin air, could he?
“Am I not cute?”
The fake outrage in his voice was indeed cute, but hell would freeze over before you would admit that.
“What? Are you saying you will be my boyfriend?”
He stared at you and you stared back. It was totally absurd. San could not seriously mean he would be your boyfriend, right?
“Yes.”
You honestly did not have a comeback to that. San had said it like he meant it. I guess he didn’t have to make someone appear out of thin air after all. He is already here.
“Can I change my wish?”
You did not look at him, but you could feel his eyes on you. It had been a mistake, actually several mistakes. You should not have gone to the mountain, or cleaned the altar.
“Do you dislike me this much?”
San sounded almost hurt. What had he expected? That you would just lay down and spread your legs?
“You just showed up here, unannounced. What am I supposed to-“
You stopped yourself. Maybe it was not a good idea to yell a god. It was unclear what he could do besides making plants grow and looking good. San shifted beside you and when you looked at him, he lay on your bed.
“What can I do to make you more comfortable?”
He looked up at you. In that position, one arm probed up holding his head, he reminded you of the old timey rich people lounging on chairs.
“Why do you want to grant me a wish anyways?”
He hesitated. You had asked a sensitive question.
“I am in your debt.”
“Then make me rich and rest peacefully that you have settled your debt.”
You turned more towards him. He pressed his lips together into a thin line. You had to be careful now with your tone. One wrong word now could have bad consequences, so you just looked at him.
“I can’t do that.”
He pressed the words out and avoided your eyes. The fabric of the sheets was suddenly much more interesting. You wondered if he was telling the truth. Why was he insisting on this stupid wish you had made.
“What is in it for you? If you tell me honestly, I will consider it.”
His eyes flickered to your face before studying the sheets again.
“I can leave the mountain.”
He told the bed. “No one believes in me anymore...”
You wondered what the consequences of that were, but now was not the time to ask. So if he played house with you he could stay out here, instead of being alone in the forest. You were sick of being alone too. All the times you had felt lonely, may come to an end now, if you just said yes to San.
“If I said yes, what would happen?”
He tried to hide his relief, his hope, but failed. A smile appeared on his face. San sat up and his eyes sparkeled with delight and mischief.
“I would grant the more pressing part of your wish first.”
You wrinkled your brows. The more pressing part? He leaned closer and whispered in a velvety voice.
“You want to be licked, to ride on a big cock and be pounded until you come. That's the pressing part.”
Your breath caught in your throat. Yes, that was exactly what you wanted. In that order. He looked into your eyes. The more you looked at him the more beautiful he became. Just this once you did not want to overthink everything.
“So, what do you say?”
“What will happen after that?” You could feel his breath on your neck. His lips brushed over your skin. You swallowed audibly.
“I will do anything you want me to do.”
To make his point he kissed your neck. Gently sucking on the sensitive skin there. You move your head to grant him better access. His lips on you made your head spin already. Who would it be if they were somewhere else?
“Okay.”
You sighed and bit your lips. It was time to embrace this weird situation and be bold.
“Eat me out, San.”
He groaned against your skin, when you said his name. His lips landed on yours and he wasted no time. His tongue begged for entrance, sliding over your lips. You were not sure what you had expected, but you were surprised by how normal his mouth felt. San was warm and smelled of the forest after rain.
Your hands buried themselves in his long hair. You thought about untying it but it would be better to wait a bit longer. His Hands slipped under the hem of your pajama pants and between your legs. You gasped as his fingers touched your clit and slipped into you briefly.
“Apparently I will have to do a bit more to get you riled up, my love.”
San smirked at you and positioned himself between your legs. He made sure that he had your attention before he untied the fastings of his jacket. He did not wear anything under it so you had an unobscured view of his body; and what a nice body it was. The way his upper body tempered towards his waist was breathtaking. You wanted to touch him, ran your hands over his body. Right now was not the time though.
He pulled down your pants and kissed your thighs. San did not waste time and went straight to the point. He sucked and licked your clit, slowly circling it before flicking it with his tongue. You grabbed his hair and he smirked against your skin. His tongue moved down, ran around your entrance and dipped in briefly before moving up again. When he sucked your clit into his mouth, your moan quietly. You wanted to close your eyes and concentrate on the feeling of tongue flicking against you, but you also wanted to see him. He slowed the pace down and licked your clit. You felt his fingers circling your entrance before pushing in. The two fingers barely met any resistance and after a few more slow movements he pulled out.
He kissed the inside of your thighs and you groaned. That was not where you wanted his mouth to be.
“How about you ride me now?”
He looked up at you expectantly. If you did not know better, you would have thought he was giving you puppy eyes.
“You’re pretty eager.”
It was only half a joke. You raised an eyebrow.
“Yes. I am.”
Damn. I guess the immortal god of the mountain is not so selfless after all.
“Lie down.”
He was about to take off the jacket but you stopped him.
“Keep it.”
The way it revealed his chest and abs without being completely shirtless looked very sexy. San lay down on his back and you straddled his hips. The tent in his pants made it very evident how much he wanted this. You ran your hands over his chest and loved how his skin felt. It still seemed surreal that he was there, in your bed. Like a dream. But it was not a dream. He felt as solid and real as one could get. You leaned down to kiss his neck. It was so graceful. This close to him you could see the faint freckles on neck, that made him even prettier. You lightly sucked on the spot midway down his neck. He sighed and goosebumps appeared on his soft skin. You looked at his face to see him looking back at you.
“You’re very pretty.”
There was a part you wanted to make a joke out of it a la “you need to get your eyes checked” but you didn’t. It did not sound like a joke.
“You too, Mr Mountain.”
He smiled at the nickname. His hair was not as neat as earlier. You had tucked on it, while he had eaten you out and now some parts of the hair stood out more. Not many hairs had come loose completely though.
“Can I untie your hair?”
He reached for the tie and released it. How could he look any more stunning? With his long hair spilling over the pillow. He smirked up at you. It was very annoying that San knew how much he affected you.
“Are you motivated enough to ride me now?”
Yes, you were very motivated now. You pulled down his pants. It was going to be very fast, judging by his girth. You aligned yourself above him and let yourself sink down on him. The stretch made you gasp. His hands came to rest on your hips. You could still move freely, so it felt like he needed something to hold on to. You gingerly rocked your hips and heard San sigh beneath you. His fingers pressed into your hips. Moving your hips was the only thing you wanted to do now. You felt so full and so close already. Maybe him between your legs earlier was the cause of that. You leaned back and the changed angle made him press against your g spot. Every move sent waves of pleasure through your body.
San sat up and looked into your eyes. A light blush had appeared on his face. You wrapped your arms around his neck and he closed the distance. The kiss made your heart flutter and clench around him. He kissed down your neck to your chest. Your hand flew to his hair when he took one nipple in his mouth. He sucked and circled it with his tongue.
“Say my name.”
It sounded like a plea. His mouth was on the other nipple now while his hand came up to continue. You moved your hips as much as possible with him sitting up. The light biting and twisting of the nipples send electric shocks to your core.
“Oh, San.”
It felt a bit odd to say that but San hummed against your chest, doubling his efforts. Your hand grabbed his hair tighter and you rock your hips fast. So close. He bit down a bit harder at just the right moment to make the wave of pleasure came crashing down. Without realizing it you muttered his name over and over.
A few more movements and your hips came to a hold. San wrapped his arms around you and kissed your forehead. You sank against him and he held you. Your breathing calmed down as you enjoyed being held. He was still inside you and it felt so intimate that you wanted to lighten the mood with humor.
“So, am I going to birth a tree now?”
San chuckled and kissed your shoulder.
“That’s not how that works.”
You smiled against his shoulder as his hands rubbed your back.
After a quick shower, you and San returned to your bedroom. You put on a t-shirt and sweatpants. San lay on the bed waiting for you. When you looked he spread his arms, waiting for you to fall into his arms. You could not help yourself but smile. He really was cute. You sank into his arms and he kissed the top of your head.
“What you wanna do now?”
You asked his chest. It was nice and warm in his arms. Would it be rude to fall asleep now? Your eyelids felt so heavy, it was hard to keep them open. You were not sure if he ever answered because you drifted off to sleep so fast.
And that is how you got yourself a boyfriend that had been a minor god for some time. The plants in your house never withered and from time to time you would visit your town. The altar was still there, in the middle of the forest, slowly being assimilated by nature, but San always went back to the city with you.
For that one person who forgot, 'San' literally means mountain in Korean XD
I'm willing to write some more episodes in this universe, so if you have a request (idk San meeting your friends for the first time or something like this), send me an ask :))

A personal update + my next game
OK, time to do this. I’ve been meaning to do a big DAVID WEHLE™ update for a while now and explain why I haven’t released a new game yet, but you know how life gets in the way. Especially when life is a quarantine hellscape, you have three beautiful, amazing, exhausting kids to raise, a spouse’s job you support, a viral YouTube channel that turns your brain to mush, a thousand emails waiting in your inbox since your game is free on the Epic Games Store (with an impressive number of redemptions too! … meaning lots of emails and customer support issues), etc., etc. What also contributes to my lack of updates is because… I just don’t really like posting online. Fascinating correlation, I know!
Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a venting/ranting blog post (well, maybe a bit), because my life is seriously AMAZING and INSANELY BLESSED and LUCKY. I can’t believe how many dreams keep coming true, so much so that I feel I don’t deserve it and I really pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes… but I did want to at least be honest, because I owe that to myself.
Wow, where do I even begin? Well, how about we start with the reason I’m even a full-time indie game dev now: The First Tree. This small hobby project I worked on at night morphed into this gargantuan beast (or fox) that took over my life the past 5 years. Which is great! I’m living the dream! And yet, I really didn’t expect it to do as well as it did. At its core, my game is a slow-paced, sad walking simulator (ahem, I prefer the term “exploration game,” but you know what I mean) that somehow seemed to launch at the right time to the right audience. It resonated deeply with some of you, and for that I’m eternally grateful. I still get emails almost daily how my game changed their lives in some formative way. I’m beyond honored.
However, with that spotlight came criticism and demands from the ever-present, insatiable internet. I would randomly be surfing the gamedev subreddit trying to decompress, and I would see a comment by some rando saying how much I didn’t deserve my success, and how it was all one huge lucky fluke. And I believed them!
And to add to it, some devs considered me an indie marketing “guru”, which I was uncomfortable with. I worked hard to market my game every week, and after my GDC talk, people assumed marketing was my passion; the reason I got up every morning. Just to clarify… NO, I don’t like marketing, and I hate being the center of attention. I don’t like asking people for money and wishlists. But I did what was necessary because I was passionate about telling stories, and I wanted to give my story a fighting chance to be seen on the crowded pages of Steam.
So now, you’re probably wondering “well then David, why did you make fancy YouTube videos showing off your success? Not very modest if you ask me.” This honestly could be a long blog post all on its own, because my experience of putting myself in the spotlight and becoming a “content creator” is… complicated. It was an unusual step for me, especially since I never even showed my face online (as a game developer) until my GDC talk.
First off, I always wanted to teach and start a YouTube channel. I love video editing, especially since I’ve been doing it longer than making games! It’s a huge passion of mine. And teaching people who didn’t know they could make and finish games was a huge motivator (and it’s been so rewarding already). But the second reason is, I was scared. I was self-employed, and I was riding the success of a “huge lucky fluke” that would probably not happen again. I wanted to make sure I could provide for my amazing family, and give them food and health insurance and security in these tumultuous times. I was turning my lifelong passions and hobbies into a business, and it wasn’t as simple of a mental transition as I thought.
So, I went all in on YouTube and the accompanying online course called Game Dev Unlocked. I spent years editing the scripts and videos, and polishing them to a shine. At first, no one watched my videos, no one was buying… and in the blink of an eye, the YouTube algorithm picked up my main autobiographical video (“How Making Indie Games Changed My Life”), and I started getting 5,000 subscribers a day. Right now, I’m at 150,000 subs, which is still hard for me to believe. I always had a dream of earning 100k subs on YouTube, so I was pretty happy with the whole thing. Sales were OK, but mostly people didn’t want to buy the course. Then the emails came in…
Something you should know about me: I am a textbook “people pleaser,” and if someone asks for my help, I take it very seriously. If someone is mad at me, even if I didn’t do anything wrong, it’s all I can think about, and it ruins my day. So, taking an onslaught of people begging for help and multiplying that by an impossible amount of people for my brain to truly comprehend thanks to the internet… and let’s just say it wasn’t a healthy mix.
I received thousands of emails from people who were begging me for some kind of reassurance that everything would be OK. That their dreams would come true too. And I wanted to help every single one of them. I went from a nobody working on a game for fun to becoming a spokesperson for the indie game dream. I couldn’t even get a shake from the Chick-Fil-A drive-thru without someone recognizing me and asking for game dev advice. And it didn’t stop there… I would get emails from suicidal kids asking for help, teenagers from Afghanistan asking me to get them out of their country, and on one occasion I received an email from a hopeful game developer in a war-torn country who had just experienced a bomb blowing up their neighboring village. His friends were dead, and he was hoping he could finish a game before he died too, and he needed my help. How do you say no to something like that? Didn’t I owe it to everyone because I was lucky with my hit game and I needed to “pay it forward”? (Something people constantly reminded me of)
And then to top it off, after you’ve given everything you’ve got to other people in need… you get hate mail in your inbox. You spend the whole day serving your children and strangers on the internet, then when the kids are finally asleep, you hit the bed to relax and take a look at your phone to decompress, and you randomly come across an angry gamer in your Twitter mentions telling you your game they got for free sucks, and that you took away a potentially great game from them and that your apology isn’t good enough.
Long story short, I went to a mental therapist for the first time in my life. I was broken trying to care for two toddlers and a new baby in a pandemic (which is very, very hard), taking care of my course students who gave me their hard-earned money and demanded results, and the countless people begging for help on the internet. I was this introverted, internet-lurker trying to take on the weight of the world. I was so tired and hurt that no one cared about me and my needs… only what I could do for them.
Quitting my day job and making this hobby my full-time job has stirred up… mixed emotions. This statement may disturb some of you, but I was definitely 100% happier when I had a full-time job and I was working on my game at night. I missed working with the amazing team at The VOID, working on Star Wars… back when the success of my game was this abstract thing I could only daydream about. Mostly, I was making my game for me with no outside expectations to pay the bills or satisfy the ever-demanding internet, and that brought me a lot of joy.
It’s not all doom and gloom though! I’m actually very happy now and in the best shape I’ve been since the pandemic started. I’ve had to confront my weaknesses and personality quirks, but I’m a better person for it (and I’m sure these issues would’ve come out eventually). I hired an awesome community manager for Game Dev Unlocked who is helping SO MUCH with the emails, I can’t even tell you the mental burden it alleviates. I even leased a co-working office to help separate work from my home, and that’s been a huge help too. I’ve decided to work with my old friends from The VOID on a cool, new VR experience. It will take me away from my projects a bit, but I’m ecstatic to work with a great team again (and not manage anything, whew).
These are all things I would’ve never guessed I needed, because I thought I knew myself pretty well… turns out I didn’t.
The reality is: running a business is HARD. Running it solo is even harder. You have to remember, I was burnt out on The First Tree well into the Steam release in 2017, but I kept working on it for 4 more years due to my fears of failing again and not earning enough money for my family.
So, I was wrestling with the age-old concept of commercialism and art. There was this dichotomy of doing whatever I wanted and being true to my vision (what most people assume the indie dev dream is like), and doing only what customers wanted to buy. This is something that has killed me with YouTube… in one specific instance, I was super excited to make the exact video I wanted to make. I loved every part of its creation, and I thought it had a message that would inspire everyone. I lovingly edited it over several weeks, posted it, and excitedly waited for the stats… and it was by far my worst performing video.
This is not a new problem. Even the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo was a commission forced upon him by the very violent Pope Julius II. My wife and I regularly talk about the fine balance between artistic integrity and commercialism, a problem she is very familiar with as an artist who constantly needs to balance what she wants to make with what the customer wants to hang up in their home.
For The First Tree, I was lucky. It was pretty much what I wanted to make (I had to compromise a lot of things of course), and it turned out millions of people wanted it too. Recently, I thought the safe business decision would be to do it all over again, so I started work on a spiritual successor to The First Tree (an idea that I may revisit one day since I do love the story idea). But that isn’t happening anytime soon. Trust me when I say I am now currently burnt out on animal exploration games.
So that realization left me with a question: what do I do next?
I’ve decided I need to make a game that I want to make, for me. It will be a bit different and I’m almost certain most fans of The First Tree will not love it… but it’s an idea that gets me super excited. It’s an idea that could help me fall in love with game development again.
A few more details: this game will be story-driven, first-person, and will use the Unreal Engine. That means development is gonna be slow going, because I have to learn a whole new tool. The “smart business” decision would be to make something quickly in Unity which I’m already familiar with… but I want to do this for me, and UE5 looks like a lot of fun. I’m also shooting for an early-ish release date so I avoid burn out and I keep the game short: I want to release it in Fall 2022, but knowing game development, it will probably take longer.
With the help of my therapist, I’ve also concluded that I’ve been too accessible on the internet and that my self-worth isn’t determined by the amount of people I try to help online. Of course, I love helping people and seeing them succeed, but I need to step back and focus on my family and myself. I will delete my social media apps on my phone (I will still post big updates occasionally) and stop responding to most emails, tweets, DMs, etc. It’s not that I’m ungrateful… in fact, if I don’t say thank you or at least acknowledge the incredibly nice people who share a sweet message about my game or want to tell me how I inspire them (still hard for me to believe, lol), I feel a ton of guilt… but I need to let that go. Please know I’m extremely grateful to all the fans who follow my work, so even if I don’t thank you directly, I truly mean it: thank you.
I will still post and stream occasionally on YouTube when I want to (and I still do live Q&A’s for my GDU students). The online course sales will help support my family as I work on a potentially risky game idea (and my new job will help alleviate the risk too). I’m gonna try one more marketing experiment and sell a mini-course soon (and add an Unreal section), and after that I’m done working on it. A gigantic thank you to the people who bought my course and are part of the amazing community, it has helped me and my family tremendously, and it’s inspiring seeing the games you make!
I’m a bit worried about the whole thing since this new game idea could flop, which could definitely affect my family. But a sappy, high-school yearbook quote is coming to mind…  I think it applies here: “A ship in harbor is safe—but that is not what ships are built for.”
Thanks for reading,
David

MC defending Beel

A/N: of course i can! I hope you like it:)
MC defending Beel
—————
Keeping track of time in the Devildom was hard. There was no sun, clouds, moon, or wind. With no weather or anything really, you had no way to figure time out- other than your D.D.D and clocks of course. But it was time for breakfast, you felt it in your bones. Maybe it’s cause you’ve been here almost two years, maybe it’s Maybelline, but today was your day for breakfast. And you had ideas. Something in the air today just screamed “extra”, “go the extra mile today!”, or it might have been actual screams. Who knows? Anyway, you were in the kitchen, bright and early to make these custom plates for each of the brothers. After all, they’ve given you two whole years of fun adventures, and great memories. They’ve made you feel more happy than you have ever been. So why not just do something small for them? You were on your phone, it was plugged in and you were looking online for some human-world breakfast foods. Obviously, you would do a Japanese breakfast for Levi, an Instagram influencer breakfast for Asmo- I mean, Devilgram influencer, a large breakfast burrito for Beel, maybe a bowl of oatmeal for Belphie, low effort, just like him god damn gremlin-
and so on. there’s each have their own dish. and before you knew it, Mammon came down to the kitchen yelling out “dammit! why do I have to wake up and make food for everyone?! Wait- my cooking’s so great I’ll be able to open a store and make a whole hell of a lot of Grimm!” he kinda mumbled kinda yelled out to himself. It was obvious he had been up late and was oh so very tired. “mc? it’s like you read my mind! there ya’ go, think in’ like the great Mammon!” he chirped, finally noticing you there, in your pajamas with an apron on making 7 dishes with their own color pallets and such. He sat and stared at the dishes in silence. “you…made breakfast? it isn’t your day for breakfast though?” he slowly spoke. “I….I wanted to do something nice for you all. So I made everyone breakfast, but each dish is based off of personality and food preferences. Now go back to your room until I get you, you’re embarrassing me!” you yelled out, red covering your face. You didn’t like doing nice things for people, too much energy and this…this was so off your edgy aesthetic. like, super off. And for Mammon to walk in and see you in a frilly cat apron? bye bye life.
-
“breakfast was amazing, (y/n), thank you for this.” Satan praised quietly. “just thought i’d show you how it’s done” you joke, throwing him a playful wink. a smile crept to your face as you realized this sounds like something out of a slice of life anime. Which is something Levi would never ever watch with you. Speaking of Levi, he had a bit of a fanboy moment where he squealed and turned red. He was also so enamored with his game he completely forgot about his customized breakfast. He kept mumbling to himself, something about you being not such a “normie” after all. idk tho wasn’t paying attention too much. You expected this, Levi would forget about breakfast and play his game, and then complain when Beel ate his. just like every morning. You felt your heart drop into a bottomless pit. In your hard work you had forgotten the most important thing; the fact that everyone needs to eat. including you but thats not for now. Beel ate Levi’s breakfast the second he started getting into his game. The one thing you didn’t prepare for. “do you ever think before you act? are you all stomach and no brain? I want my food back. now” Levi seethed at Beel. “I can throw it up, but I’m not sure you’d want to eat vomit..” Beel admitted, looking at the ground trying to avoid Levi and the scary aura around him. “I don’t care! Give it!” Levi yelled back, making you flinch at the sudden loud voice. Admittedly, you thought it was absolutely positively 10000% adorable how Beel was always hungry. it was just so 🥺🥺🥺🥺 to you. Everyone else was more focused on their own breakfast, except Belphie, who was still in bed, of course. You should say something. After all, you could always make Levi breakfast another day. Or right now, if he really wanted to throw a fit. “A-actually, Levi? it’s totally fine. it’s actually on me, I completely forgot to prepare for this. I’ll make you breakfast tomorrow. I think it’s kinda cute how Beel’s always hungry. Now let’s go, it’s your turn to walk me to RAD and I have to take some quick notes at the library cause I slept through last class” you said quickly as not not let any of the brothers process what you said.

SH Day 13- Dating Apps AU
Something a bit shorter today, ngl i'm very tired, today was a long rough day, but I still don't really wanna miss a day if I can help it. I'm unsure however if i'll be able to post tomorrow and Sunday due to family stuff, but we shall see. ~Love, Dia
Rated T, Modern AU, OOC
@sasuhinamonth
She’s the kind of person that brings her laptop to my bar for free wi-fi while wearing sweat pants despite it being the weekend and super crowded. The kind of person that brings her own sandwich and hot tea, rather than order them from me. I’ve never seen her with her hair down or any make-up on unless she had a date, and no matter what she brought her dates to my bar because I was her safety net. All she had to do was order a rum and coke and I’d make the date disappear.
Hinata appeared out of thin air one day a few months ago. In the beginning, I just thought she was another pretty face in the crowd. I took a liking to her early on and figured she’d be another girl in whose pants I’ll get when I’m bored, maybe something with a bit more duration like a friends-with-benefits sort of situation. But that never happened, because even when we were talking there was always a wall between us, her eyes were most of the time glued to her laptop. It used to annoy me but I’ve grown used to it.
I wouldn’t have minded had she been a workaholic, but she uses her laptop for dating sites, always looking for someone. Her dates never go well no matter how hard she looked. More often than not the guys look nothing like their pictures, or most of their pictures were groups and it was ini mini miny moe between which of the dudes she was actually talking to. Other times they look like the picture but act nothing like they did online, in text they were nice and considerate and in reality, they are rude and close-minded.
“Why is it so hard to find a decent guy?”
She always whines to me, while sipping tea from her pink mug, I’ve moved past explaining to her that this was a café, that she should order her drinks and food here rather than bring them. I think about her question and wonder if I enter her category of ‘decent guys’ I wouldn’t be surprised if I didn’t really make the cut, just like I’ve seen her billion dates she too was there to witness a few hook-ups, a few girls slapping me, and even me dumping girls whose names I had forgotten.
“Maybe you’re not looking in the right place”
“Right…What online dating site do you use Sasuke?”
We help eye contact for a moment and then both of us rolled our eyes. I knew she was joking; I have never used a dating app or site or anything and in my opinion, maybe she’d be a little luckier if she looked around herself in real life, of course when I say this, I mean myself. I’d be lying if I said her constant rejection didn’t intrigue me, but that’s not the only thing that somehow pulls me towards her. I find her day-to-day attire charming, her endless search for love a little idealistic. I got so used to seeing her every day that whenever it is past 1 p.m. and she isn’t here in her pj pants sitting on one of the stools I worry. Hinata actually lives in the building right next door so I often go and check on her. I also found the reason why she comes to the café, her apartment building has no wifi, according to her and most young people that’s a crime, but the price is only half of what she’d pay anywhere else in Konoha so, some sacrifices need to be made.
“Do you think I should stop looking for a while?”
She asks that after each disastrous date. If I’m being honest the more time passes the less I enjoy seeing her waltz around looking all dolled up, holding onto the arm of some random guy that by the end of the night turns out to be a creep. Usually, I answer her question by quoting some random rom-coms that she watches whenever she’s not updating her profiles on dating sites. But today something’s different, her laptop is absent, and her hair is down, but the mug and pj pants were present as usual. It’s a strange combination of both versions of her that I know. The lack of laptop tells me she has made up her mind to take a break, which I am happy about, but she needs some validation that her choice is correct so I say. “Maybe”
Hinata replies with a nod. She looks oddly out of place without typing and staring at the screen. It seems like she doesn’t know what to do with her hands or where to let her eye wander. I know I might regret my net words but I say them nonetheless.
“Maybe it’s time you rise your head from that screen and actually look around, maybe you’ll find someone to your liking” I of course secretly hope that person will be me. Her eyes move and she looks straight at my face for what feels like the first time. I know that’s not a fact but something in her gaze looks different today so I offer her one of my famous smirks. My eyes almost pop out of my head when she slightly blushes, I want to poke fun at her ask her if she finally came around to the idea of me, but that would ruin things. I need to be more than a date.

hi!! could i please request aomine + kise w a super insecure s/o but she doesn’t really say anything about it? but overtime the boys see how closed off she seems w everything ? aaa sorry if this doesn’t make sense
It made sense, don’t worry!! I hope you like this x
Scenario: Kise and Aomine with an insecure s/o
Kise
You loved dating Kise— you really did. As someone who had tendencies to worry about what others thought of you as well as be over-critical on yourself, being with him was quite refreshing. His bubbly personality and constant reassurance definitely helped you gain some self-love that you probably wouldn’t have been able to find without him.
There was one issue though. Kise was a rather popular person, being a model and all. For the first few months of your relationship, you managed to stay hidden by not going out in public with him too often. Of course, the two of you couldn’t always have dates at each other’s houses because there were so many places Kise wanted to take you, so you slowly began to go out together.
It didn’t take long for rumours to go around about your relationship, considering Kise’s popularity as a model was growing quite rapidly at this point. At first, you didn’t mind too much because they were just rumours and no one could confirm nor deny it per say. Furthermore, you felt quite happy knowing that Kise was all yours, and that you were in a relationship where you lifted each other up, so what others said about it wasn’t something you were concerned about.
However, that was until people started sneaking pictures of the two of you in public. You didn’t notice anything as it happened because you were caught up with Kise, but a few hours after you returned home, your social media was plastered with mentions as people tagged you in photos with your boyfriend. Looking at the surge of those photos made you begin to feel overwhelmed. You couldn’t help but read what people had to say about it, even though you knew you’d probably regret it.
At first, you didn’t really see anything too bad. Things like ‘Oh a new couple! How cute’ and ‘They’re adorable together, Kise-kun looks so happy’ seemed to be scattered amongst more surprised and sceptical comments that questioned the validity of the photos. And then you found the hate.
‘Yikes. Why is Kise dating someone like that?’, ‘No offense but Kise can do better’, ‘Did they pay Kise to date them or something? I never imagined him actually dating someone like that lol’ along with many other comments of that sort was soon all you saw. The nicer comments that were sprinkled here and there suddenly lost all its value as the meaner ones were all you seemed to look at.
You switched your phone off and put it aside as you began to feel your throat close up. As your brain began to question your self worth, a few tears managed to escape, even though you were trying so hard not to let it get to you. Maybe they were right? was all you could think about as you slowly but surely beat yourself up about it.
“Y/N-cchi! Are you free after school?” Kise chirped as you met up with him at recess a few days later.
“Probably. Why?”
“Let’s go on a date! There’s this boba café nearby that I think you’d really like,” he said with a smile, cheery as ever.
“I’m not sure. I think I’ll have to pass,” you said softly. You really didn’t want any more online attention than you were already getting.
“Why not?” he pouted.
You looked up at his frowning face and felt a wave of guilt. You made him sad. The comments were right. You don’t deserve him. “I just don’t feel like it,” you shrugged, pinching yourself.
“You’ll feel better when you try their drinks— trust me. It’ll be fun,” Kise said, giving you a smile that never failed to make your heart melt.
With a heavy sigh, you nodded slightly, “Alright I guess we can go then.”
Kise’s face lit up once again as his arms wrapped around you so tight that you felt like you couldn’t even breathe. “Yay, a date with Y/N-cchi!” he sang.
After school, the two of you walked to the cafe together. The weather was quite pleasant, and the bright yellow sun definitely improved your mood ever so slightly. As you walked, Kise took your hand in his like he usually would, but almost instantly, you pulled it away from him, gaining a look of confusion in response.
“What’s wrong, Y/N-cchi?” Kise asked, concerned.
“It’s nothing. My palms are just a bit sweaty, so I don’t think you’d wanna hold my hand,” you lied. You couldn’t help but be on edge in the case that someone was watching you.
“They felt fine to me, don’t worry about that,” Kise said, reaching for your hand once again.
You couldn’t really think of anything else to say to refuse without garnering any questions from him, so you reluctantly let him hold your hand, looking around anxiously. This keeping an eye out lasted for quite some time and Kise seemed to notice that your attention wasn’t fully directed towards him like it normally would be.
“Y/N-cchi, are you really sure everything is okay? You’ve barely even looked at me today,” Kise said as the two of you sipped on your drinks in the cafe.
“I’m fine,” you answered simply, over-correcting your actions by focusing on Kise and pretending everything was okay.
“Really? You seem really nervous,” Kise said.
“Ryouta, I’m fine, don’t worry,” you said, trying to sound as reassuring as possible.
“If there’s ever anything worrying you, you can tell me,” he said sincerely, placing his hand on top of yours and giving it a tight squeeze. “You know that, right?”
For a moment you really considered telling him what’s been bothering you, but you were afraid. You thought that it was really stupid of yourself to get affected so much by something like this and you didn’t want him to judge you for it— even though you were aware that he’d never do that.
“I know,” you nodded as you leaned back in your seat, filled with uncertainty and regret.
Once again, when you got back home, you were met with even more pictures of you and Kise from your date. You noticed that you had a frown on your face in pretty much all the photos. And of course the comments seemed to notice too.
‘lol his date doesn’teven look like they want to be there’, ‘that person looks annoying, why’s Kise dating someone like that’, ‘if I were with Kise I’d probably pay more attention to him than they are’.
Day by day, the comments increased. Kise’s agency managed to be able to keep the tabloids relatively silent about it. There were small articles here and there, but none of them were all too bad. However, there was no way they could control what was being said on the internet. Kise did call you up to remind you not to be too concerned about what people were saying. In fact, he urged you to do what he does and avoid the comment sections completely. But at that point, it was already too late. Looking at what others said about you online quickly became a daily thing, sending you down a spiral of self-destruction that only got worse.
Slowly, you began to avoid going outside and started making more and more excuses to not go out with Kise. You did still really like spending time with him, but the only time you were truly comfortable was when you were somewhere private with no other people around, and that wasn’t something Kise could do too often because he liked going outside.
He’d invite you to hang out with his friends every so often but you’d always refuse, saying that you were too busy. In all honesty, you hated lying to him but you felt like you had to.
One afternoon, you were laying down in bed after a tiring day of school and scrolling through comments yet again, when you heard the doorbell ring. It was Kise.
“Ryouta? What are you doing here?” you asked with a confused expression. “Don’t you have practice?”
“Yeah but you didn’t come to watch so I got worried,” Kise explained as he stepped into your house. “What happened, Y/N-cchi? You always watch my practice.”
“I’m sorry, I just didn’t feel too well,” you replied, your eyes fixed on the floor.
“What? Are you okay?” Kise asked, in a slightly panicked tone as his hand immediately reached for your forehead to check your temperature. “You seem fine.”
You responded with nothing but silence as you pursed your lips and continued to stare at the floor as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.
Kise leaned down to try and meet your gaze. “Y/N-cchi, what’s really going on? You’ve been really distant lately. Have you gotten tired of me or something?” Kise asked, his usual cheery voice suddenly going all soft.
“No, it’s nothing like that,” you shook your head, surprised that he’d even think of something like that.
“Then what is it?”
“I don’t know,” you mumbled.
“Y/N-cchi, please tell me what’s going on so that I can help. I really hate seeing you like this. I can’t remember the last time I saw a genuine smile from you, which sucks because I really like your smile,” Kise said as he cupped your face in his hands and tilted your head up to look at him in the eye.
You felt tears well up in your eyes as you thought back to all the things you’ve read about yourself. Kise genuinely cared for you and you told yourself yet again that you really don’t deserve him. “I just don’t feel very confident going out so much with you,” you admitted softly.
“What? Why’s that?” Kise asked, amber eyes filled with concern and worry.
“Because there are people who sneak photos of us and post them online. And the comments are always just so... mean,” you said, your voice breaking as tears began to roll down your cheeks.
“Didn’t I tell you not to look at those? What did they say?”
“T-That I’m not good enough for you, and that I don’t deserve you,” you replied, sobbing like a baby at this point.
“And you’re going to believe what a bunch of random people say about you?” Kise said, which silenced you for a moment as you thought about it. “Listen Y/N-cchi, you’re beautiful and kind and one of the most caring people I’ve ever met. I’m the luckiest person in the world because I get to call you mine. If anything, I don’t deserve you— I mean it. No one could ever make me think that you’re not good enough because in my eyes you’re my everything,” Kise said, voice so soft and tender that it just filled your body with warmth.
“Are you sure?” you asked, unable to process the fact that this boy had so much love for you.
Kise pecked your lips and gave you a smile. “I’ve never been more sure about anything in my life.”
“I’m sorry for not talking about it to you sooner and acting so aloof,” you said.
“It’s okay. We can take it slow and just spend more time alone, alright?” Kise said as he wiped your tears away with his thumb.
“Yeah, that would be nice,” you sniffled.
“I hope you can see yourself the way I see you someday. You’re really amazing, Y/N-cchi. I love you so goddamn much,” he said, honey eyes full of care and sincerity as he placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
You couldn’t help but smile at the sound of those words that made your heart skip a beat, “I love you too, Ryouta.”
Kise’s face brightened up again as he too began to grin, “There’s that gorgeous smile— I’ve missed it.”
Aomine
Aomine was aware that you had times where you felt insecure every now and then and of course, he did his best to minimise it and check up on you to make sure you were alright. He seemed to be doing a fairly good job as well because your confidence was rather stable for a while.
One of the main reasons he’d always check up on you was because he was really slow on picking up when you did feel insecure. You were the kind of person to sit quietly and deal with your issues by yourself rather than reach out for help so that made it slightly difficult for him sometimes. Along with being slow at noticing, Aomine was often one to take things for granted. So when you seemed to be all happy and confident, he’d slowly begin checking up on you lesser and lesser.
You never realised how much you valued the attention from him though until it began to reduce. You seemed to have become emotionally dependent on Aomine and by the time you realised it, it was a little too late.
Slowly, as days went by, you began to feel more and more unsure about yourself as Aomine got busier. The Winter Cup was just around the corner and he was caught up with practices that he didn’t have as much time to tend to you. Nevertheless, he still went out of his way to call you up or visit you during his free time, though that time was never enough for you to open up about how you felt.
You weren’t sure when it happened, but before you knew it, your mind was clouded with dark thoughts that criticised your appearance and abilities. You’d often stand in front of the mirror and pick yourself apart piece by piece, feeling nothing but hatred towards the person that looked back at you.
You stopped enjoying the things you’d normally enjoy too. Things like art and reading became a burden as every time you’d pick up a pencil, you’d hate every stroke you made, and you couldn’t immerse yourself into books anymore because your mind would only just wander off into thoughts about the things you wanted to escape.
“Hey babe, how are you doing today?” Aomine said when you picked up his phone call one evening.
“I’m okay, are you heading back from practice?” you asked, able to hear a faint sound of footsteps in the background.
“Yep. I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever,” he sighed.
“Didn’t you see me in school today?” You pointed out.
“Barely. Besides, that was hours ago. I miss you,” Aomine said.
“I miss you too,” you replied, hearing his voice somehow put a small smile on your face.
“Can we FaceTime instead? I want to see you,” he requested, which immediately wiped the smile away.
“I don’t think so,” you said, shaking your head even though he couldn’t see you.
“Why not? You can’t just keep that pretty face to yourself, you know. It’s not fair.”
“I look anything but pretty, trust me,” you said, playing it off as a joke even though you actually meant it.
“Oh come on. Please?”
“I said no, Daiki,” you snapped suddenly, shocking both you and Aomine. You definitely didn’t want to put yourself on video, however you didn’t realise how defensive you were about it until that point. But you stood by it.
There was a moment of silence as you took in what just happened before Aomine let out a heavy sigh. “Alright. It’s fine then I guess,” he said. There was definitely a change in his tone after that. What was previously an energetic and happy sound, was now more lukewarm and mellow, and you couldn’t help but feel responsible for it.
And now there was one more thing for you to beat yourself up over.
Aomine finally had a few days off of practice, and of course, the first thing he wanted to do was spend time with you. So he called you up.
“Hey, do you want to go out for a movie or something? I finally have some free time,” Aomine asked you.
“Um, I’m not sure. I don’t think I feel too well,” you said. The last place you wanted to go was outside. You had to walk to the convenience store the other day and you absolutely hated it because you felt like everyone was judging you in some way or the other, even though in reality, no one really looked at you for more than a second.
“Really? Is everything okay? Do you need to go to the doctor?”
“No, it’s nothing like that. I guess I’m just not feeling up to it,” you said.
“Then how about we do something tomorrow?” he suggested.
“I don’t know...”
“Y/N, I barely get to see you anymore. Are you sure you’re not avoiding me or something?” Aomine questioned, being more straightforward not to mask his hurt.
“I’m not.”
“Then why don’t you want to spend time with me?”
“I don’t know,” you mumbled, feeling overwhelmed at the pressure you felt to not make him hate you even more.
“Y/N, that’s not an answer,” he sighed.
You responded with silence as you finally decided to shut yourself up before you made things worse. With one more disappointed sigh, Aomine ended the call. The sound of the ringing finally caused you to break down into tears. You finally reached rock bottom. You chased away the one person who actually cared about you. He probably hates you now too.
Meanwhile, Aomine was striding towards your house after ending the phone call. It may have been a bit cruel to just cut it without saying a goodbye, but the frustration just took over. You weren’t even responding at that point so Aomine just decided to see what was wrong for himself. It took you a while to answer the door, and when you did, there was a forced smile on your tear stained face as you let him in.
“I’m sorry for cutting the call short. What’s wrong, Y/N?” he asked.
No response. You just stared at the floor.
Aomine’s hand reached for your cheek, “Hey, were you crying—“
He stopped when you flinched and shifted away before he could lay a finger on you. “I’m fine, it’s nothing,” you said coldly, wrapping your arms around your body and clenching your shirt.
“You won’t even let me touch you. Did I do something wrong?” Aomine asked, trying to think about whether or not he’d done anything to upset you recently. However, nothing added up as he barely saw you— there was no way he could’ve done anything.
You hated every moment of this. All you could think about was how you probably looked awful at that moment. He came so suddenly that you didn’t get a chance to fix yourself. Furthermore, you’d just been crying so you probably looked like a train wreck. He is definitely thinking about how bad I look, you thought. You didn’t want to find out though, so you just avoided all eye contact.
“You’re really not going to even talk to me?” Aomine asked, and as he expected there was yet again no response. He sighed. “Fine then. I’m not leaving your house until you tell me what’s going on.”
You watched as Aomine walked further into your house. He went straight into the kitchen, and you, not knowing what else to do, trailed behind him as he began to check the cabinets.
“I’m starving. Have you eaten lunch yet?” Aomine turned his head to look over at you. You shook your head. “Alright. I’ve been learning how to cook. I’m not guaranteeing a gourmet meal, but it should be edible... hopefully,” he said, beginning to pull out different ingredients.
“I’m not hungry,” you mumbled.
“Did you eat breakfast?”
“No.”
“Yeah I thought so. I’m making us some food,” he said dismissively.
You knew Aomine was stubborn so you didn’t try to argue any more because he’d make it no matter what you say.
You watched him walk up and down the kitchen and do his thing in silence. You really weren’t sure what he was trying to make. There were so many different ingredients that just didn’t make sense, but you just stood and watched.
About half an hour went by without a word from either of you. Aomine began humming a song as he stood over the stove, which strangely made you feel more at ease. As he stirred the pot, he seemed so harmless that you began to finally calm down and build up the courage to tell him.
Almost as if he could read your mind, he finally spoke up, “You ready to say something to me yet?
Another moment of silence passed by as you bit your lip in hesitation. Aomine was just about to let out another disappointed sigh when you muttered, “I’ve just been feeling really insecure lately.”
Hearing your voice caught Aomine off guard for a moment. Even though he was the one who asked you to speak up, a part of him was expecting nothing to happen yet again. He switched off the stove, wiped his hands and turned to face you, leaning against the counter as he did so. “Insecure? About what?”
“I don’t know. I just hate how I look. And everything I do feels so inadequate. Plus I haven’t gotten to see you in a while so I got the feeling that you probably hate me by now. I’m acting like a brat now, after all,” you said, voice soft but the pain was evident.
“I want to start off by saying, I could never hate you. You’re always on my mind Y/N. Why do you think I like to call you so much? Actually, why do you think I came all the way over here? It’s because I care about you,” he said.
You finally looked up at him again. He looked as gorgeous as ever. And this dark blue eyes were gentle and caring. Maybe you were overthinking it.
Aomine took you getting your eyes off the floor as a good sign. So he took a few steps closer to you. “And I get how you feel about the other stuff. I feel like that too sometimes. But honestly, I find you absolutely beautiful. I really don’t know how much weight my words have, but that’s what I think. You’re also so smart and talented, I really just think you need to be a little kinder to yourself,” he continued.
And just like that, the waterworks went for round two. You didn’t know how much you needed to hear those words until right then.
Aomine felt his heart ache at the sight of you in this state. He hesitated for a moment because of what happened when he tried to touch you earlier, but he soon wrapped his arms around you and hugged you tight. Almost immediately, you too wrapped your arms around him and sobbed into his chest, the smell of his cologne making you feel safe at your most vulnerable moment.
“I’m so sorry for being so distant. I’ve been so awful. I should’ve talked to you,” you cried. It was a bit difficult for Aomine to understand what you were saying through the tears but he processed it a few moments later as his fingers brushed through your hair reassuringly.
“Shh, it’s okay,” he said softly as he pulled away and held your shoulders so he could look you in the eye. “I’m just glad you told me.”
You nodded as you tried to stop yourself from crying.
“Here,” Aomine said, as he pulled off the black dog tag necklace he wore and put it around your neck. “It’s not much, but think of it as a reminder that you’re always amazing in my eyes.”
You felt your heart burst as you became teary-eyed again, except this time it was out of gratefulness.
“...is that too lame?” Aomine asked as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly when you didn’t say anything.
You immediately shook your head. “No, it means a lot. I-I love you.”
A smile spread across Aomine’s face. “I love you too, Y/N,” he said. “Alright, I’m gonna finish making our food, okay?”
“Sure,” you nodded as you watched him return to the stove. “But, can I ask what exactly you’re trying to make?”
“Um, ramen?”
You began to giggle, “Babe, I don’t think you should put tomato sauce in ramen.”
“Oh, right... I knew that.”

leave everything behind but me- part 1 (diane sherman x fem!reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: Diane is still extremely dangerous, TW for stalking, drugs, and illness (also brief vomit mention), hurt/comfort with a bit more hurt, this series may end up going in an NSFW direction but there isn’t any here, I really don’t know exactly where it’s going.
AU where pretty much everything in the movie is the same except the very last scene. Diane gets out of jail but isn’t able to find or contact Chloe. This is gonna be a series and probably way too long (I’m already writing part 2). Also I know there are a lot of Diane fics that are like this, sorry about that. But this is really fun to write so oh well.
Summary: You finally got the courage to run away and start a new life. Diane gets out of jail. She can’t find Chloe, but created a bond with another girl, you. And she would never, ever lose you. After all, you need her.
You were finally doing this. You were leaving your home behind and never looking back. You never had a good relationship with your parents, and now that you had graduated High School your parents were constantly threatening to kick you out. So instead, you decided to just leave. You had found a town on the east coast (across the country from your home state) and you had saved all your money from your job for the bus tickets, and found a roommate online, Anna. until you had finally announced to your parents that you were moving out. They acted relieved, like a huge burden was just taken off of their plate. But you knew they were secretly upset that they no longer would have someone to blame every inconvenience on.
You sat on the bus, listening to music and looking out the window. You noticed a silver minivan that happened to have been following you almost all day and on two different buses. You wondered where the driver of the minivan was going. Maybe whoever the driver was was running away too, but was lucky enough to have a car.
The bus stopped in Chicago, about halfway to your destination, and you had an eight hour layover that you had to manage to stay awake for despite the fact that you hadn’t slept in the past 24 hours. You decided to go to a cafe that was next to the bus station to get some coffee to pass the time and keep you up.
“I’ll just have a large coffee with cream and 1 sugar, please.”
“Great! That’ll be three-fifty.”
You searched in your wallet before realizing that you were completely out of cash that wasn’t going towards your bus ticket or room.
“...never mind”
“Hey, I can pay for you, don’t worry about it.” Said the woman standing behind you.
“Oh, you don’t have to-”
“Don’t worry, its no big deal. Just come and sit with me.”
You had time. Besides, you wanted someone to talk to and this woman was quite attractive.
“Sure. Thank you.”
The woman ordered and led you to a table.
“So, what’s your name?”
“I’m (y/n). And you?”
You heard the barista say “Two coffees for Diane?” and the woman got up
“I guess that answers that?” you said.
Diane walked over to get the coffees and stirred in the cream and sugar into both of them.
She gave you one of the coffees and said “Yes, my name is Diane Sherman. Are you from around here?”
“Oh no, I’m from the west coast. I’m on a bus trip, moving across the country. Fresh start, you know. And you?”
“I have been too, actually. Well, except I’ve been driving. Why do you need a fresh start?”
“My parents and I have a rough relationship. I just graduated High School and I didn’t feel like there was a reason to stay. What about you?”
“I’m sorry about that, (y/n). I actually lost my daughter recently, I’ve been incredibly lonely. I’m hoping for a new start, and some new connections.”
“I’m sorry to hear that Diane, that’s terrible.” You wondered what happened to her daughter, but thought it was best not to pry into this woman’s life.
“I’ll get through it. Maybe I’ll find someone else I can take care of. Someone who really needs it.”
Diane asked you more questions about your family, life, interests, everything. You felt like this woman had a genuine interest in you that you never felt from anyone else. You liked it. But as you talked you realized that the coffee wasn’t waking you up, if anything you felt even more tired. Maybe you just had to wait.
“I haven’t slept in so long, I’m so tired. Thank you for getting this coffee for me. It was nice to meet you, Diane.” You said, sad that your paths may never cross again.
“(Y/n), wait.”
You turned back to her.
“I have an idea. I have a motel room with two beds for tonight. Why don’t you sleep there and we forget about the buses, you can just ride with me.”
“Where are you going?”
“I’ve bought a house and I’m going there, but I can take you wherever you’d like, there’s no rush. I understand you may be suspicious as a younger woman when an older person asks you to ride with them and stay in their hotel room but I promise I only ask because, well honestly, I’m lonely and need someone to take care of.”
It was probably the sleep deprivation, but you believed her. You got into her silver minivan and drove to a nearby motel. When you got in the room you immediately dropped all your stuff and flopped down onto the bed, exhausted.
“Hey, sweetie, you can shower in the morning if you want to but you should at least change into pajamas.” said Diane. You found the energy to take your clothes off and put on an oversized t-shirt as you listened to Diane sing in the shower. You fell asleep to the sounds of the running shower and the older woman’s slightly off-key singing.
When you woke up, Diane was reading and sipping some coffee. You noticed she had also gotten you one.
“Morning, sweetheart. Now, I’m not in much of a rush to get out of here so just take your time. Drink your coffee and then take a shower, alright?”
“Sounds good!” You said, starting to drink your coffee.
“Great. I’m looking forward to spending more time with you, (y/n). I think maybe we were destined to meet. You without loving parents and me, in desperate need of someone to love and care for.”
“Maybe..”
You couldn’t explain why, but you did like this strange woman. She seemed kind, and she was very pretty, which couldn’t have hurt. The only reason you said yes to her last night was because you needed sleep so badly but now that you were fully rested, you couldn’t say you regretted it. You walked to the shower and felt a bit lightheaded. While you were in the shower you started to feel weak and you finally fell over.
As soon as she heard the thud of your body to the shower floor, Diane ran into the bathroom.
“(Y/N)? What happened? Are you ok?”
“I... I fell... I don’t know why.” You said, a bit embarrassed of the woman seeing your naked body like this
“Ok, let’s get you dried off and dressed, then I think we have to get some food into you.” and Diane helped you up, helped you dry off and took out your most comfortable-looking clothes and put them on you. This whole thing made you feel like a child, but you almost didn’t mind. It’s not like you’ve ever been taken care of like this before.
“Lean on me if you need to, I’ll come back for the luggage after you’re in the car.” You held onto Diane’s arm all the way to the front seat of the car.
“Just wait here, okay love?”
She got both your suitcase and hers and but them back in the car. You noticed that her suitcase that was in your room was not the only one she had, and she in fact had several suitcases, and lots of bags. She was older and more established than you, of course she had more things than you did.
She drove until you found a diner where the two of you could get breakfast. She helped you out of the car and told her to at least hold her hand while you walked.
“I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, maybe eating something will make you feel better.”
“Yeah, I hope so. I’ve never felt like this before, I really hope I’m not sick.”
“I don’t think that’s it.”
While you ate you talked, and Diane gave you a pill that she said might make you feel better. You took it and you did start feeling a little bit better.
“Is it working? Do you feel ready to go?”
“I think so”
And so you left the diner with Diane feeling a little bit better. She kept her hands on you to guide you as you went to the car, just in case.
“I’m ok now. But thanks, Diane.”
“Of course.” She grabbed your hand for a second and smiled at you and your heart skipped a beat. Why did you feel this way?
Diane drove for several hours until you fell asleep again. When she woke you up you were in a hotel parking lot in a small town you didn’t recognize.
“Where are we?”
“I think we’re somewhere in central Pennsylvania. We have a lot more driving to do, but it’s getting late. Let’s get some dinner and get you to bed.”
That night was relaxing and easy. Diane ordered room service and you ate while sitting on her bed together and watching a movie. The two of you began to cuddle and you ended up falling asleep in the older woman’s arms. When you stirred early the next morning she was still holding you.
When you woke up for real, Diane brought you some coffee.
Diane got back on the road and she asked you where you planned on staying. You told her you were going to stay with a girl named Anna who you talked to online. As the car ride progressed, the weak feeling you had the other day started to come back.
“That’s ok. You can stay with me tonight if you want.”
“You really don’t have to-”
“Yes, I do. I want to make sure you’re ok, let me take care of you.” You figured that if Diane were dangerous, she would have tried to do something to you by now since you’ve basically been alone with her for almost two days. How bad could it be?
It turned out that the house Diane lived very close to Anna anyway, so you decided why not.
You drove another seven or so hours from the hotel all the way to a small house in a very cute little town not too far from where you had planned on settling in.
“This is it.”
You got out of the car and brought your stuff into the house. It was a cute, small place that was already furnished. You and Diane both looked around. There were two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a living room and kitchen.
“It’s a good thing I got a two-bedroom, I guess. You can stay here as long as you’d like.”
“Thank you”“
“I’m gonna go out and bring some more stuff in and then I’ll make us some tea, does that sound good?”
“Sure.”
The two of you sat on the couch and talked while you drank the tea Diane made you. The tea didn’t taste bad, but it didn’t taste like anything you’ve had before. You told her more about your family life after she asked.
“Your parents were so lucky,” said Diane, who was getting a bit emotional, “to have a child as healthy and beautiful and sweet as you. There are so many people who would give anything to have what your parents took for granted.”
“I don’t know, maybe it is my fault. Maybe I was just a bad kid. Maybe I was hard to like, or dumb, or-”
“I don’t think you’re any of those things. And I’m sorry that you believe that, because it’s not true.”
“You think so?”
“I do.”
You went to bed that night in your room and Diane in hers. When you woke up you felt weak and sick to your stomach. You guessed that Diane was wrong and you were in fact coming down with something.
“Diane!” You felt bad for possibly waking her up, but you’d feel even worse if you threw up on the sheets, and you didn’t know if you could make it to the bathroom. So you did it. She immediately came running to you.
“Are you ok, sweetie? What’s wrong?”
“I think I’m sick. Do you have a bucket or something?”
“Yes. Just one second.”
She left and very quickly brought back a bucket for you.
“I hope I haven’t gotten you sick too.”
“Don’t worry about that, I rarely get sick. Just let me take care of you.”
And you did. For the next few days as she looked for teaching jobs she nursed you back to health. Well, almost-health, at least. You weren’t having stomachaches or throwing up anymore but you still felt weak. She gave you pills and lots of them, and some might have had some bad side effects. All the pain medication she gave you almost had a numbing effect on your body. Anna had completely stopped responding to you and you worried she didn’t want to be roommates anymore, not like you could be on your own right now anyway in the state you were in. You needed Diane to take care of you. She was being interviewed for a position as a science teacher at the local High School but other than working on all of the application material she had all the free time in the world to be with you.
“Anna said she found another roommate.”
“Hey, don’t worry about that alright? You’re still sick and I really don’t mind you just... staying here and living with me. Besides, I really think I’m going to get this job and if I do I’ll easily be able to support the both of us.”
“Diane, you don’t have to... I applied for some jobs already.”
“None of which you can do when you’re sick, now please lie back down. I know you feel bad for letting me take care of you and baby you so much, but you don’t have to. I’ve already told you that I like having someone to take care of. And I know you like it when I take care of you too.”
And you hated to admit it, but she was right. Despite how horrible you felt physically, you enjoyed your time with Diane. You started doing a lot of fun things together. You both enjoyed yourselves, and Diane sometimes told you that she felt like she had a daughter again. She made you feel loved. You still had your own bed, but you often fell asleep on the couch or in Diane’s bed while the two of you cuddled.
“I love you, (y/n). My baby.” Diane said as you started to drift off on the couch with her that night.
