THE MILVENING HAS BEGUN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's 114 contenders! Amazing job everyone!
we got 323 submissions and labored over every single one until approximately 2am, which is why this bracket looks so fucking incomprehensible. (shoutout to tumblr user asparagoos for creating The Milves Rubric and user pastramis, who plays fantasy football and knows brackets.)
anyway, full match-ups are below the cut. starting tonight (3/30) we'll start with uhh the upper left-hand chunk today, then make our merry way down the list three times a day until the first elimination round ends. the top scoring milves will not appear until the second elimination round, aka when this bracket is legible.

The sixth song from the Death Note Genderbent project, We All Need A Hero, featuring Stacy Smith (she/her) as Sayu Yagami! Please give it a listen and support the project by subscribing on youtube and following the project here!
The DNG Universe genderbends Light, L, and Misa. The rest of the characters retain their original gender. We wanted to explore how this affects the relationships in the show - with Soichiro and Sayu watching their precious, studious daughter/sister become a monster, with the leading detective in the world being afab nonbinary leading a group of male detectives, with a male Misa being in love with Kira without knowing who Kira is, implying the possibility of a queer male popstar.

the grammys have been gender neutral for awhile now though and it doesn't seem like there's been a huge discrepancy between male and female artists? im also a bit nervous about how more gender neutral awards would impact women, but i don't think it necessarily dooms us to male-dominated awards. maybe i'm just being naive idk.
Between the years of 2013 and 2021, 13.4 percent of artists nominated for Grammy awards were female, and 86.6 percent were male. The share of nominated women in 2021 was far higher than usual at 28.1 percent, which drove up the average and took the share of men nominated for a Grammy below 75 percent for the first time since the source began investigating gender distribution in the industry.
A new study on gender and racial figures in pop music proves the old James Brown refrain is still true: It’s a man’s man’s man’s world.
The study, in part, looked at the gender breakdown of Grammy Award nominees, and found a wide imbalance. A total of 90.7% of nominees between 2013 and 2018 were male, meaning just 9.3% were women.
Stacy L. Smith, Marc Choueiti and Kate Pieper, of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, tracked the gender and racial breakdown of performers, writers and producers across the top echelons of the pop charts and the Grammy Awards.
Women nominated for Grammy Awards, for instance, were most likely to be recognized for best new artist or song of the year and least likely to be up for producer of the year. In the time period surveyed, not a single woman got a nod in that category.
For a comparison study on female performers at the Grammys, look to two other highly competitive popular music fields that flirted with gendered Grammy Awards: rap and rock.
Women and men competed together in Best Rap Solo Performance from 1991 to 2002 and from 2005 until 2011. Only 11% of the total nominees from those years were women (Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah claimed three a piece). Best Female Rap Solo Performance and its male counterpart lasted for only two years, 2003 and 2004 (Elliott won both years for the ladies), due to the low volume of entries.
…
The category for Best Female Rock Performance ran from 1980 to 2004, and went on hiatus for three nonconsecutive years in between, also because of the small number of entries. From 2005 to 2011, only two (6%) of the total nominees were women — and neither won. Best Rock Song is batting about the same low average as Best Rap Song. There have been more metal/hard rock–nominated acts with female-inflected band names (Alice in Chains, Queens of the Stone Age, Jane's Addiction, Marilyn Manson, etc.) than there have been actual female-led nominees (Evanescence). In its five years of existence, 24% of the Best Rock Performance nominees have been women or female-fronted groups — six out of 25 total. Three of those six have been Alabama Shakes (who took home big Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song wins on Monday), and four of those six were nominees from just the 2016 crop.
and that’s only from a precursory search. unfortunately, the grammys are actually proof that gender neutral categories worsen sex disparities at awards shows.

Just 30% of the top 100 films of 2023 featured a female lead or co-lead, the lowest share in a decade... [and] a substantial drop from 2022’s record-high of 44%. "Even by looking at the films that were moved to 2024 because of the strike, we cannot explain the collapse of women leads/co-leads in 2023 other than to say that this is an industry failure," AI2 founder Stacy L. Smith said in a statement. Just three movies featured female leads or co-leads who were 45 or older... By contrast, 32 movies were led or co-led by men in that age demographic – and 24 of those specifically starred white men. That’s more than the total number of movies that centered a woman of color (14). ...“Notably, the increase in underrepresented leads was not driven by content from the legacy studios,” Smith said. “It was films from smaller distributors (like A24) and international fare that were responsible for the uptick we found in 2023. This year should have reflected the commitments major studios made in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, but these are not the places responsible for the push for greater inclusion.”

Neco-Arcs Burunya Smut Collection Extravaganza
by PresidentHaise Saved from death itself without any memory of your past life, you awaken to find yourself in quite a predicament. Though you’ve been given new life, the cruel hand of fate has assigned you an unlikely savior who calls themselves “Neco-Arc”, and they’ve made their intentions clear from the get go are as selfish as they could be. With your new life purpose being to make the two-foot abomination as much passive income to fuel their obsession with fast food and gay hentai, you take on the role as Neco-Arc’s involuntary porn star: getting into wacky and life-threatening situations, all so you can rizz up whoever their audience wants you to take them to “Pound Town”. (Still need to add tags along the way. This pornographic fanfic takes placed within Western media only, with a preference for animated characters.) Im going to add to and edit this post later. This is something I'm working on on my family tree. This is from my family tree and a section I'm researching right now. Some of the Bennett siblings and some of the Lord siblings ended up as couples. I also grew up in the the church of Christ and I was looking to see if I had a family history of this way back in my family. There isn't much and I'm grasping at straws with this. Sarah Bagby and Joseph Noah Cantrell were my great grandparents. Here is Sarah Bagby's parents and grandparents. I've been to the graves of Joe and Sarah and Bill and Nancy and Nancy parents Bill and Sarah. Sou great grandmother was named after both of her grandmas I was told.

"Webster county state of Missouri. I, William W. Shaver a legal minister of the gospel, did solemnize the rites of matrimony between William S. Bagby and Nancy C. Lord on the 8th day of August 1872.
William W. Shaver
A Minister of the Gospel"
In red is from the real written copy that I saw in online archives but it was blurry when I did a screen shot or the other option made it to small to read so I wrote it out.
You may notice Ws Bagby and Nancy C. Bagby in the church list. They were my 2x great grandparents. I looked at some info for William Wilson Shaver. He was also a minister in the Christian church and a part of the Stone-Campbell/Restoration Movement. My most immediate family subscribes to the church of Christ which is part of the same movement. I never knew where it started. I think this might be a coincidence. This is on my dad's side and actually on his father's side. I never met my grandfather because he passed away before I was born. It was my understanding that he didn't go to church. I know my granny did with us. I know my grandfather's father was a bad person and very mean. It was his wife who was the daughter of Ws Bagby and Nancy Lord.
Also Nancy Lord Bagby's Parents were William (bill) Lord and Sarah J. Bennett. Nancy was the only child ever listed on census records with her parents. I don't have any indication that there were ever more. This feels really unusual for the time but perhaps they couldn't have more.
I noticed that Sarah Lord is in the church list. Bill Lord was also still alive and I don't see him in the church member list. Ws Bagby's Parents were John Bagby and Sarah. I believe that Sarah's Maiden name was Todd and that she was the sister of Thomas Todd...he was the minister of the church members listed above. John and Sarah (Todd) Bagby moved to Texas and we're not here to be in this church. In fact I'm unsure of when they passed away and they may not have been alive at this time... I do not know what church they went to if any. I also can't prove that Sarah was one of the Todds but a lot of the family researchers believe this.
Here is another side note. This appears to be a very tight knit group. I wouldn't expect any less. Below is something on the find a grave site. This is the grave for the daughter of William Shaver who married my 2x great grandparents. You might notice her married name is Isabell Yandle. You might notice this name on the church list of Thomas Todd's church members. Her husband was John W. Yandle according to this site and the photo of the tombstone. I haven't looked for documents to prove this. I don't have any reason to think they are related to me but honestly anyone In this church list could be as tight knit as they were. I'm still looking at the members. I will say a lot of my ancestors and related people are in the New Grove Cemetery.

I will give updates as I have them.

there tends to be a lot of misogny circiling around the music industry, most specifically rap. its a male dominated industry making it hard for female performers. when over 6.7 million fans voted on a ranking of the "greatest rappers of all time" only 3 of the top 100 rappers were female artists. there have been female artists to rise to top 10 such as rising female artist Saweetie as she received a ranking of 7th on the billboard top 100 chart in 2019. however, fewer women are able to make it that high through the years of the music industry. the issue that impacts womens undereperersentation is the lack of representation of the roles across the industry, includes; songwriting and producing. a profeesser by the name Stacy L. smith looked into the artists of 700 songs on the billboard 100 year end chart from years 2012-2018 and uncovered that across those years 12.3 percent of the songwriters were female 21.7% of the artists were female and only 2% of the producers were female. on top of that female artists are consistently put in positions of answering males producers, as producers often have a high amount of control over the music. seeing these statistists its absoloutley shocking how underrepresenyted women and how male dominated it really is in the music industry making it hard for women to achieve their carrer goals as the dominace of males makes them hesitant to enter the industry and makes it harder to become successful in it. after professers smith's research he further on explained that there is a barriar they face which makes it harder for them to progress and that is how women are percieved which is "sexualised and whithout skill" and until that view is abondoned women will still face indifferences in the industy.
'billboard' explaines "it apprears that every year, there is sheer confusion regarding the criteria for nominations in the rap categories. are they determined by mainstream success and popularity? is it skill? content? if any of these are determining factors females check everey box..." so even tho female artists do meet the criteria still over 90% of recent grammy nominations were men.
when analyzing rap music researchers have found it is more common for women to be portrayed in derogatory ways such "bitch" "slut" "hoe" which degrades women rather than "independent, intelligent or even superior to men" when lyrics like that are so casually overlooked it reflects the rooted sexism in society and alterers the perception of women which holds them back in their progression is modern society. the most powerful and influential artists connect with their listeners meaning degatory lyrics have the chance to negatively impact how society and how society views women and how women view themsleves thes perceptions also influence younger generations.
