There's a Live-Action/Animated Hybrid Adaptation from the 70s in case if you're interested.

I’ve read the book. It was weird but kinda cute. Might check out the 70s adaptation. Live action/Animated hybrids were all the rage in the 60s-70s it seems.

Apparently in the Valentine's Day special, Tina (Identical 8) and Evelyn (Identical 14) were once couple since they were holding hands while visiting to the Carnival. I'm not joking! Some Random SpongeBob fan pointed that out (could this mean that some of the Background Fish are secretly LGBTQ?)

I had to dig through the episode to find it but I did!

If you have seen "Sponge on The Run", need I ask, but what do you think of Poseidon? To Me, I think he's interesting (even though he had wasted potential) but can you imagine on how Poseidon and SpongeBob's friendship would be like if they had their own episode together? I highly doubt that the writers would try to bring some sequel movie characters to the show but I would like to picture Poseidon and SpongeBob like Discord and Fluttershy from MLP. What do you think?

First of all, I gotta let you know that I've never watched MLP so I don't know the characters you've mentioned!

Buuut I did watch "Sponge on the Run" and I do know Poseidon :D

To be honest, I like Neptune a bit more (he's never been cruel to poor pet snails and I dunno... he's pretty arrogant too but he'd never torture animals to get anti-aging products :D) 🤭

But Poseidon is pretty interesting, too! And everything deserves at least one second chance, right?

Unfortunately, I suppose you're right and there probably won't be such an episode any time soon! But let's just try to think about what a Sponge & Poseidon eoiside might look like :)

I can totally picture an episode with Poseidon and Sponge in which Poseidon visits Bikini Bottom so they can hang out together. Sponge would maybe try to do all the things with him that he usually does with Pat or Sandy, like blowing bubbles or going jellyfishing or having a karate session or staring contests. Or he'd try playing board games like "Eels and Escalators" with him! :D

However, Poseidon probably wouldn't be that much into those activities so they'd end up in Spongebob’s pineapple, where Sponge would try to get him into the "The Adventures of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy". Poseidon would try to focus on the series, but he'd be distracted by Gary, who'd come cuddle with Sponge. Poseidon would be so very endeared by that and probably say something like "Oh I wish I had a pet snail too!"

Sponge would fear that Poseidon might fall back to old patterns but he'd actually just love to have someone who can keep him company - apart from his guards of course (and snails are perfect for that haha)! And well, the episode would end with Sponge and Poseidon visiting the local pet shelter where Poseidon would get his own pet snail. From that day on, he'd love and spoil his snail and even go the snail park every day. That way, he would bond with other citizens and their pet snails and soon he'd have a whole lot of friends so he'd never have to feel alone or unloved!

When it comes to the friendship between Poseidon and Spongebob, I think that they could definitely both benefit from each other! Sponge would try to make Poseidon see the good things in life and constantly remember him that it's not about guards or royal power or aristocratic titles - it's all about sharing as much time as possible with the ones you love. Plus, he'd help him when his insecurities about his looks get too much, so he can embrace his true beauty which comes only from the inside. And Poseidon has approximately 3000+ years of life experience, that makes him the ideal "senior friend". Once he overcomes his self-centered, selfish ways he could definitely keep Sponge grounded and provide a different perspective on life (that's actually something Spongebob could use since we all know that he tends to overreact a lot sometimes :D). Poseidon can provide support, wisdom and a friendly ear and I'm sure he's got so many interesting stories to tell! And well, Spongebob loves stories so that would be another thing they have in common! :)

To keep a looong story short - I think they definitely have potential to become very good friends! :)

the history of animation in a nutshell

Early 1900s: hey what if comic strips could like move?

Late 1910s early 1920s hey what if we mashed this up with live action people?

late 1920s: hey what if this thing had sound?

Early to mid 1930s: hey what if this had people actually talking and also color?

late 1930s: hey you know that super cool movie that one lady animated with paper cut out silhouettes? What if we did that with painted cells? Would people even pay to see that? Never mind it turns out the answer is yes.

1940s: ah shit most of our animators got drafted and/or hate us now cause we weren’t paying them. IT’S PROPAGANDA TIME BABY. Also haha hitler got hit with a mallet and also the most racist depictions of Japanese people ever.

1950s to 1960s : oh what’s this newfangled thing? Television? What if you could air cartoons on it? Oh fuck no I ain’t paying that much to get the charecters to have different backgrounds and for the charecters to like, move fluidly. Also manga and anime are steadily growing more popular.

1970s: (Ralph Bakshi walks into a comics store and finds a furry comic) X rated animated movie? *cue the screams of mothers and their unsuspecting children now being introduced to the revolutionary idea that cartoons don’t equal kids stuff? WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?

1980s to 1990s: we can have full on animated Broadway musicals? Wait, what do you mean animated movies can count for the Oscar’s? What do you mean now they get their own catagory because the academy still thinks their for babies? Anime and manga are taking off in the west. SWEET JESUS WHAT DRUGS ARE THE JAPANESE ON SHOWING THIS SHIT TO KIDS. But also why is it so fucking good. Maybe some of these aren’t even meant for kids? Wait We can sell toys to kids with cartoons? Wait we can actually put effort into these cartoons on television? The fuck to you mean we can animate in 3D now? What do you mean we can have well animated, well written sitcom shows like the simpsons? What do you mean you can make cartoon charecters say fuck? What drugs are creators at Nickelodeon on? Do I even want to know?

2000s: oh my god, there is this one show that I really like cause it’s really well written and genuinely funny but I can’t talk about it because it’s animated and we all know cartoons are for babies right? Oh look it’s the transformers movie, look how far CGI has evolved so we can make the transformers in a movie.

2010s: holy shit I know these shows are for kids but they’re just well written and have so much meaningful things to say about the world. Wait, it’s cool to like cartoons now? They they have fandoms for this? Fuck yeah I’m in. (Enters one of the most notoriously toxic fandoms of all time) THEY HAVE GAY PEOPLE IN THESE SHOWS NOW? AND COMPLEX EMOTIONAL STORYTELLING? AND ADULT ANIMATED SHOWS CAN BE MORE THAN JUST SITCOMS WITH THE SAME JOKES AND STYLE? WHY IS IT THAT EVERY DISNEY CARTOON SINCE GRAVITY FALLS INCLUDE THINGS THAT GET MORE AND MORE FUCKED UP? WHY DO I FUCKING LOVE IT? WHY THE FUCK DID DISNEY DO THE OWL HOUSE DIRTY LIKE THAT?

2020s: I got this show I wanna pitch but it dosen’t fit into any box that the networks want and also I’m afraid that they’ll just randomly cancel it before I can finish the story I want to tell. Wait, I can just post the pilot on my YouTube channel, see if anybody actually likes this thing I made and just make the show independently? FUCK THE NETWORK! I AM THE NETWORK

Ever watched the SpongeBob Movies or "Epic Tails" (aka "Argonuts" from 2022)?

The First and Third SB Movies feature Neptune/Poseidon in different timelines and even "Epic Tails" also features their own personal take on Poseidon.

I’ve seen “SpongeBob Squarepants: The Movie”, SpongeBob’s Neptune/Poseidon is funny, especially in the earlier SpongeBob episodes 😆

A Little Hot Take but what exactly is your own LEAST Favorite Moment involving around your own Boi (Slappy)?

Squidferatu.

I loved pretty much all of Slappy's appearances but Squidferatu is the only one that rubbed me the wrong way.

Its frustrating since it was an episode I anticipated for so long and I don't want to say I don't like it. I do. I adore the work that went into literally recreating the Nosferatu movie down to the tiniest details. At first I didn't quite get why I wasn't a big fan of this episode and after some rewatches, now I know. I just don't like what they did with Slappy.

This is going to be an annoying rant so fair bit of warning:

Slappy is a peter lorre parody and a pretty generic one. That's how peter parodies are, its been 60 years since the guy passed. Whenever he's imitated in cartoon its always a vague copy of a copy and half the time even the people who made the parody don't know lorre specifically which I dont mind lol. And even the people who were familiar with his movies still made his parodies more of a "creepy weird guy" then anything actually inspired by the characters he played. (Lorre rarely played horror, I don't know why he's known as The Horror Boy™. Especially since it's the Noirs he starred in that are much more famous).

But anyways, one trope of the peter parody™ that I never liked was making it Igor.

I don't know WHY Igor has sorta become a peter parody (even the book The Animated Peter Lorre includes several Igors as Peter Parodies) but its really annoying when it's like "look at this peter parody" and all they do is snivel and go "yes master/no master/.."

I can't complain since peter parodies are really generic but I just don't like this trope. There is characters who do sorta do this like Yetch from Mad Monster Party but he does enough to be their own thing which is why I like him.

It was just frustrating seeing Slappy only doing THAT in this episode. Especially since there's so many other things you can use for inspo for his character.

Yeah, he's supposed to be the Renfield™ to Nosferatu's Dracula and Renfield does that. (And the Renfield trope goes hand in hand with Igor because Dwight Frye's portrayals of both characters are the most famous examples)

But it felt like character assassination lol

All he ever did was disrupt and laugh maniacally. There wasn't much of what made me like Slappy in the first place. I love how unsettling Slappy can be but he's always been relatively harmless. He's just there for a good time. I get the circumstances are different since he's at work™ and his job requires him to be a threat lol. But it just didn't feel like him.

Any time the episode felt like it was building suspense, Slappy always came in to disturb. Not even in a funny way or creepy way. It was just kinda annoying. He does nothing but giggles maniacally (which is a staple of peter parodies ESPECIALLY the Looney Tunes Peter parodies and it's something I love. But not THIS much)

I know Nosferatu can't speak so Slappy has to talk for him and that's fine. Slappy is supposed to be creepy and unsettling which is something I always loved. But it just felt kinda bleh.

It didn't feel like Slappy. A good example of Slappy being unsettling was his debut. It wasn't as noisy. He moved kinda slow and sluggish, he looked half dead. He felt so off and out of place with his movements compared to other characters, he was pretty much an anomaly since you didn't know who he was or why was he even thete. He's a weird jokester and his jokes were just weird and didn't make much sense. He was very uncomfortable the first time I saw him and I was enchanted. It was so SO weird. AND I LOVED IT.

He felt so over the top in Squidferatu without any substance. It just felt so in your face every time he did something that was supposed to be creepy. Like "ohh look how creepy and WEIRD he is" but nothing that actually felt weird besides the bug eating (which is a Renfield trope)

It's weird because the sister episode Slappy Daze is pretty much exactly how I viewed Slappy. It was literally all I wanted from his character lol. (You can tell I love it A LOT) Even his later appearances in the show has him be the creepy weird little guy we all know and love but it's not like Squidferatu.

I thought initially I didn't like Squidferatu much was because slappy had so few appearances, maybe I had my expectations too high or imagined him being something else. Nah now I know with Slappy's more recent appearances that Squidferatu is out of character.

Idk, if I was to fix the problem, I think I'd shoot more for how he was in his first appearance. A little bit quieter and more realistically unsettling but not so over the top.

Or even take inspiration from a Peter Lorre character. I feel like the character of The Stranger from The Stranger on the Third Floor would be a REALLY good to take inspo from. Quietly unsettling. Speaking much more softly but you can't escape him and you always had the lingering feeling like he was going to do something.

It feels stupid to really complain about this. It just irritates me. I still like the episode and I REALLY like Nosferatu.

I also like how you get to see more of Nosferatu's castle and slappy's interactions with Nosey in future episodes and I really like how they get along.

Eh. Personally I like to think Squidferatu is from Sponge and Squid's POV. Everything feels over the top because you're seeing it from their eyes vs what actually is.

I still adore Slappy for all of his "annoying" traits. But Squidferatu isn't his best moment imo.
