what does your tag a little atlas in the making mean

it’s from a poem i wrote about my childhood, about how my role growing up in my family was to always be the one who kept the peace, who stayed quiet in the storm, who held up the sky for everyone else. so essentially it’s a vent tag for my darker childhood memories, for the struggles and pains i still face with my parents (especially my dad), and kinda a love letter in a way to the kid who went to sleep with silent tears and guilt over his anxiety attacks and who kept praying things would get better.

I feel like modern au zuko can drive, is very good at it, has his license, and will get you where you need to go but like. with very dangerous efficiency. he drives like Evel Knievel. he drives like a bat out of hell. he whips the wheel hard as fuck and you will see Jesus even if the drive is from your house to the corner store. his car is used and like 10 years old but she is strong and loyal just like her master and wont break down for anything. she'll tear over anything in her path. zuko has given iroh so many mini heart attacks while driving him around (<- because iroh does NOT have his license). worst of all is that zuko does NOT talk or road rage ever when he drives he's DEAD SILENT and simply blasts the radio. and its always either terrifying Chinese opera or crazy shit like Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd

#zuko is the gaangs free of charge Uber driver but he's not gonna do it without making them suffer a little bit. #he drives a dinky cigarette car but like I said she is strong and he also cleans her regularly so theres that. #and he's silent like I said so whenever the gaang is screeching at him that they're gonna crash he simply does not react. Its an experience #atla

sokka trying to get katara to give up on her waterbending bc it could get her killed. and katara refuses to give up and continues to practice anyway. bc sokka and katara represent the survival of both the people and the culture. sokka had the safety of their people thrust upon him by his dad, while katara is the only one in their tribe that can carry the weight of their culture. both are heavy burdens, and they're struggling with their roles bc they're just two kids trying to rebuild in the wake of genocide. but they refuse to give up, bc that's what the story is about.

holding onto hope, regardless of what you face.

Someone called Ozai "temper tantrum man", and I was going to comment on that with some sort of "Yes, but"...but then I realized that there is no "yes" to that.

He's not a tantrum person.

He has a temper, yes, but the guy doesn't freak out. Ever. Not even once. And it's a trait I hadn't considered about him, but it's so terrifyingly brilliant.

-Zuko speaks out. He just drags him off to the disciplinary Agni-Kai

-Zuko tells him Azula lied and the Avatar's alive. He just snarls at Zuko and tells him to get out, then starts goading the kid to attack him with swords while he doesn't have his own firebending

-Aang blows up his airship, and he just flies down and starts gloating about how favored he is by the universe

-Aang unlocks the Avatar State and grabs Ozai's beard, and Ozai counterattacks in the blink of an eye

-Aang nearly kills him and Ozai scoffs about how Aang is weak

-Aang takes his bending and Ozai throws punches until he realizes he's exhausted

-A bunch of teenagers start making fun of him and Ozai (still exhausted) pathetically protests before falling over

-Zuko comes to see him in jail and Ozai hits him with snark

The writing on that man is insane when you think about how cold he is.
