Berón, verdugo verdinegro (1981)

Durante el repechaje de 1981 entre la Primera y Segunda División de Uruguay se dio una situación realmente insólita. La anécdota me fue sugerida por el estadígrafo del club cervecero Alejandro Schenzer y está recogida en el libro de 1999 “Racing Club de Montevideo 80 años de La Academia” de Eduardo Gutiérrez Cortinas. También ha sido de vital ayuda la información aportada por el estadígrafo argentino Gabriel Ladetto Porrini.

Resulta que en la última fecha de este torneo, Racing, que había perdido toda posibilidad de ascender a la Primera División, enfrentó a un Tanque Sisley dirigido por Héctor Cincunegui que tenía claras posibilidades de lograr ascender por primera vez en su historia al círculo de privilegio de nuestro fútbol. Racing presentó a su oncena titular y solamente un suplente, el golero Carlos Arias, un valor juvenil que venía de consagrarse campeón sudamericano Sub 20 en Ecuador ese mismo año.

El Tanque Sisley de 1981.

El encuentro se disputó un 27 de febrero de 1982 por la noche en el Estadio Luis Franzini y fue arbitrado por Artemio Sención ante 700 espectadores. El guardameta titular de Racing, protagonista absoluto de este encuentro, fue Oribe Berón, que acumulaba su cuarta temporada con los de Sayago. En el minuto 38, estando el match empatado sin goles, el delantero albiverde Sergio Bustamante se lesionó por lo que el técnico Liborio Ruilópez decidió que fuera Berón el que ocupara su puesto, haciéndose cargo de la valla racinguista el juvenil Arias. Hasta ahí, todo más o menos "normal". En el minuto 54 Elbio Hernández abrió la cuenta para el Tanque y minutos después lo anecdótico irrumpió en esa cálida noche de verano para entrar a formar parte de la rica historia del fútbol uruguayo, dado que Berón empató el partido en el minuto 63 y ya pasada la hora, en el minuto 91, con un certero cabezazo, volvió a vulnerar la valla de Juan Nichele para darle la victoria a Racing e impedir la posibilidad de ascender a El Tanque. Algo genuinamente, "de Ripley".

Según testimonió la prensa al día siguiente del encuentro, el club fusionado perdió el orden y fue ganado por los nervios, dado que en el Centenario Fénix le ganó a Liverpool y con una victoria los verdinegros hubieran ascendido. Esto motivó que al finalizar el encuentro parte de la parcialidad de El Tanque le recriminara duramente a los jugadores de Racing la entrega puesta en un partido en el que no se jugaban nada y ellos, todo.

This is Alejandro Ripley. He was a young autistic boy who was murdered by his own mother. Why was he murdered you ask? Because his mother couldn’t be asked to deal with him anymore. She decided his needs were too difficult so she thought she’d just kill him. Sounds totally reasonable right?

I have no words to describe the emotions this case makes me feel. Alejandro was such a beautiful soul and now he is gone from this world. This case is not about his parents who are both to blame, nor is it about “how hard it is to raise a special needs child”, (I don’t give a fuck if it’s hard, you don’t kill your kid!!!), it is about Alejandro Ripley. It is about his life being taken from him. It is about the abuse he endured for just being autistic and nonverbal.

When I researched this case a lot of what was popping up was people sympathising with the parents, saying how difficult it is to raise an autistic child. You can imagine how angry I felt reading all these comments from parents. I don’t give a shit how hard it is for the parents quite frankly because it’s 10x harder for the child. You don’t give up on your child, ever, no matter how hard it gets. You take a breath and you carry on because your child needs you. I know what it’s like to feel like there is something wrong with you and that your parents wished you were different. It destroys you, and I just hope Alejandro didn’t feel like this before he died but I suspect he did. His parents are garbage human beings if you can even call them human. His mother is especially evil and never deserved to have children. I encourage every parent out there who has an autistic kid to stop feeling sorry for yourself and start focusing on the feelings of your child. Of course being a parent is hard, is one of the hardest jobs in the world, but when you decide to have children you are signing up for any sort of child. They might be autistic, disabled, gay, trans or whatever, you sign up for that when you become a parent and you can’t walk away if you didn’t “expect” it and didn’t “want” it. Don’t have kids if you’re not prepared to deal with a child who is different in some way.

I wish I was Alejandro’s mum because I would have given him so much love. I would have learnt his ways of communicating and I wouldn’t have cared about him being nonverbal. I would have taught him to love and accept himself and I wouldn’t have tried to change him or put him in abusive therapies to do so. He needed parents who loved and accepted him for who he was and his parents were the opposite of that. Alejandro had so much going for him in life. He was kind, caring, fun and loving and he could have gone on to do so much in this world. I never met him or knew him but it feels like my own brother has been killed and it breaks me. He deserved so much better. Now all we can hope is that the mother is given the maximum sentence for what she did and the father has a really miserable life with no happiness or love.

All I want to do is give Alejandro a hug and tell him he is loved and that there are people who care about him. That’s all I want to do.

Things that have been happening in the autistic community recently that everyone, allistics included, should know about:

Trigger warning murder and transphobia.

January/November 2019: Matthew Rushin’s accident and wrongful imprisonment case Matthew, a 21-year-old Black autistic college student, was in January 2019 involved in a car accident, which was wrongfully claimed a suicide attempt. May 18th: Chad Gordon killed in a case of mistaken identity Chad, a 27 year-old Black autistic man from Hackney, London, was fatally shot at close range when he opened his door on Monday May 18th. Read more about his tragic murder here.

May 21st: Alejandro Ripley’s murder Alejandro, a 9-year-old autistic, non-speaking boy, was brutally murdered by his own mother in Florida. After having been saved by bystanders the first time his mother pushed him into a canal, he later died in a different canal. According to the mom, “he’s going to be in a better place”. Read more details here.

May 30th: Iyad Al-Khalak’s murder Iyad/Eyad Al-Khalak, a 32-year-old Palestinian autistic man, was shot and killed by Israeli police in Jerusalem. Apologies have been made by the government, but the police officers involved need to be held accountable. Sign the petition here. June 10th: JJ Vallow (and Tylee Ryan)’s confirmed death Two children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, had been missing since September, 2019. The family has confirmed the remainders that have been found are indeed JJ and Tylee. JJ was an autistic 7-year-old boy, and Tylee was his 17-year-old sister. More details can be found here, and here.

May/June: Huxley Stauffer’s “rehoming” YouTubers Myka and James Stauffer recently declared to “rehome” their adopted, autistic 4-year-old named Huxley from China. According to them, this was due to “extent of his needs”. Huxley is currently the subject of a police investigation, as his whereabouts are unknown. For more details, see here and here.

J.K. Rowling’s infantalisation of trans autistic people As many of you probably know, J.K. Rowling posted a “response” to the criticism she’s been receiving on June 10th. You can read the post here. With the words: “The UK has experienced a 4400% increase in girls being referred for transitioning treatment. Autistic girls are hugely overrepresented in their numbers. [...] ‘I (Lisa Littman) would have been remiss had I not considered social contagion and peer influences as potential factors.’ [...] where she believes that in the realm of transgender identification ‘youth have created particularly insular echo chambers.’ , Rowling has upset the autistic community. Infantalisation is a senstive issue among autistics, as it is a tactic used to undermine our capabilities. Solomon Smith’s experience with police Solomon “Sunny” Smith, a Black autistic man, was walking home, racially profiled and tased, because he couldn’t respond to demands. In the video here you can hear him repeatedly say: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry”. Black autistics are at an extremely high risk to be in contact with the police, and this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

What these recent events confirm is that autistic lives are at risk at an alarming rate. We are treated inhumanely, even by those who should be our caregivers. We are being murdered for existing. Black autistics in particular fear for their lives. They should not be left out of the conversation. So, spread the word: #BlackAutisticLivesMatter, #BlackDisabledLivesMatter!

Our community is overwhelmed. We are scared. Autistic people are generally at a high risk of suicide, and being Black and/or trans on top of that, is dangerous in times like these. Please support us by sharing these stories, signing petitions and most importantly: listen. Check in on your autistic friend, ask them how they’re coping with these events - amidst everything that is going on - and listen to what they might need. Be supportive.

An autistic child was murdered and yet wasn't reported on as much as the recent tragedy of George Flyod and I find that insulting to the victim and the only thing people care about is the fact it was pinned on two black guys.

Autistic children are murdered by their parents or caregiver at an alarming rate. Yet where are their protests. No one has ever looked at a neuro typical child or adult white or black and gone "their life must be so hard let's kill them".

The Royal Sword Academy dorm of Finalium

A dorm founded upon the instinct of the survivors.. Current Dorm leader is Lee Shelley and vice dorm head is Edgar Harker, it's a dorm that prioritizes survival instincts and strategy. Most likely dorm to beat NRC in Magishift.

Edgar used to be former dorm leader, he excels in both magic and strategy, he stepped down from his position willingly since he saw a spark in Lee.

This dorm doesn't have a dorm uniform, since Edgar though they were unnecessary, however their dorm color is light blue.

Finalium is a dorm that's twisted from final girls and horror protagonists.

A lot of students here seem to be related to Terrovania students...
