I feel like this is probably an unpopular opinion (that’s why I’m posting here and not on twitter) but I just wanna know if anyone else feels this way.

Obviously, I think Wilbur is the one Shelby is talking about, and as someone who was also abused, I feel stronger hearing her story. I hope she’s able to find peace soon.

Maybe I’m just an overly optimistic person, but I think Wilbur needs help. A lot of it. And I think, probably not a popular idea, that even though he’s a piece of shit in this situation, that he deserves it.

I’m an overly trusting person by nature. Obviously I wasn’t there when any of this happened. I am just a stranger on the internet. I don’t know what went on, I didn’t see anything happen. However, I think I want Wilbur to get better and I think he can.

He needs to be deplatformed. At least until he has PUBLICLY apologized to Shelby, and is showing to his friends (not us, the audience, not only Shelby, EVERYONE HE KNOWS PERSONALLY) that he is making an effort to never treat another person like that again. But I think, and please don’t come with your pitchforks for me, the person Wilbur abuses the most is himself.

He clearly has other problems that are not making him a good person. Mental health is not a excuse for poor behavior. However, it is an explanation. Your mental health issues and trauma are not your fault, however, managing both those things are unfortunately YOUR responsibility. They are HIS Responsibility to fix and manage, not Shelby’s, not Phil’s, not James, NO ONE BUT HIM.

Call me stupid, or crazy, or whatever, but I firmly believe in the idea of (almost) every human being capable of change. I have siblings who used to treat me terribly, who are much older than me, and I was hurt by them. But as I grew, I saw them realize just how terrible they treated me. They changed their behavior, and apologized to me many many times. They showed me people can wake up and change their lives around. And, whether or not Wilbur comes back to content creation, I hope he gets the help he so clearly needs.

Shelby owes him nothing. His fan base owes him nothing. His friends owe him nothing. Wilbur owes them everything. Shelby deserves to hold back her forgiveness when it so clearly isn’t deserved. She should never forgive him if she doesn’t want to. That’s her right.

Maybe I believe in people too much. But I truly hope he changes. Not only for his friends, family, and loved ones, but for his own sake. He’s going to end up dead if he continues this way, and I believe no one deserves to die. (I’m not even for the death penalty. Let them sit and suffer forever).

Anyway, get some rest all, drink some water, and remember that the world becoming a better place starts with you. Treat people the way you wanna be treated. 💕

Update: Wilbur’s response was absolutely awful, no surprise there. As someone else who responded said, abusers often don’t think of themselves as such. I still hope he gets help. Props to ranboo and all the others standing up to him. I hope this wakes him the fuck up. Until further notice, please stop supporting him. Unfollow him, un add his music, whatever you can to get him to deeply regret this shit he’s done. Those were his actions. These are the consequences.

An open letter to David Jenkins

Some fans believe that we should not vent our anger and frustration to show creators. I don’t believe that. The thing about being a professional is that receiving criticism is part of your job—especially if you have done a terrible job.

OFMD went from groundbreaking to disappointing overnight.

There was a momentum to create a queer media that is smart, fun, sexy, and most importantly, respectful. In the way they are writing these queer characters. Especially older and disabled queer characters, a reflection of a generation of marginalised communities that have gone through so much. To give audience a glimpse of hope in their escapism.

But sir, you choose to Remus Lupin him instead.

This is not just about killing off a character. Hell, I might be willing to accept it. After all, I have read and even written fics with MCD in it—involving my favourite character.

But I want you to know that this is a special case. It is not just another popular character being killed off to drive plots.

I have issue with how you kill off a queer character that represents many marginalised communities in his arc.

Izzy is an abuse survivor who becomes disabled as a result of it. Izzy is a queer elder. Izzy is suicidal but manages to overcome it with the healing power of love and community.

Having him killed off just like that is a huge slap for fans who have gone through what he has gone through. Turns out, even in fiction, in our escapism, there is no joy. Only despair.

Also. Father figure? Where does that come from? Ed has never been shown to have any level of respect for Izzy. So let me ask you again. Where does “father figure” come from?

You have an opportunity to make a difference with OFMD; to be remembered in history for the right reasons. Yet somehow you choose not too. You choose to turn this into cheap, sensationalist entertainment where death and torture are thrown around for shock value.

It is like you have no idea how much power you have by being a professional storyteller.

Let me break it down to you. For you as a writer, perhaps killing off Izzy is nothing but an artistic choice. A plot point to figure out. But for audiences in marginalised groups, stories are mirrors. They see themselves in stories. That is how stories give them hope. This is why OFMD has never been “just a pirate story”. Perhaps this is hard to understand if you have never been part of an underrepresented community in the mainstream media, but this is how many are feeling about your work now. Your legacy.

OFMD has truly become an overnight failure. I don’t know how this happened. I would like to blame budget cuts, but your Vanity Fair interview makes me realise this is all deliberate choice.

So, what is next for us Canyonites?

If anything, this convinced me that queer and disabled people should write. And continue to write.

We can no longer trust major media to speak for us. We definitely can never trust David Jenkins again. Any form of progressiveness that he showed earlier was just coincidence, apparently. Even worse, it was fake.

As my friend Sam beautifully puts it, Izzy belongs to us now. We reclaim that character and give him all the happy endings he deserves in our fic, our art. We transform the works. We write about queer, disabled, suicidal characters the way the deserve to be written. If being a published writer is the path you choose, make sure you make wiser decisions than David Jenkins.

I once read that people who are broken or haven’t experienced much love as children tent to choose animals that are less popular and sometimes seen as bad omens, such as black cats or ravens. So I see that Jack has a rat as a pet. They are intelligent and very clean animals, with an unfairly given bad reputation, and I think that suits Jack very well.

Nicola Tesla

Hear me out, Tesla is the proud owner of a turtle. There's a joke going around turtle owners that every time the turtle does something - such as yawns or falls asleep - you take a photo or video of it and happily show it to everyone. This is Tesla. The entire science crew has a mailbox full of this kind of spam, and their all sigh whenever Tesla sends them a new video of his pet doing absolutely nothing.

Poseidon

I think he likes animals in general. He despises humans and most gods for not behaving as they should, but animals are themselves. They do what is expected of them, they are excellent at being themselves, if that makes sense. So Poseidon probably has a dog that he has trained very well. The dog listens to all commends and generally behaves very well.

Hades

It’s canon that Hades has a pet - cockatoo. These animals require a lot of attention from their owner, which makes sense because we all know how lonely Hades is. He is literally playing chess with it! The parrot probably knows some fancy words like „magnificent” or „mellifluous”, and a whole bunch of wine names that it randomly says. Adamas, by the way, puts some effort into educating the bird too and incidently teaches it how to swear.

Beelzebub

Given how little he cares and how little he CAN care, the only option he has is fish. He gives it a good tank, he remembers to feed it and that’s it. They just exist. Damn… how depressing…

Loki

Two options. First: SAND ANT FARM. He watches it from time to time, mocking the ants for poor direction choices or just messing up with them for funnies. Second option is ferret. Loki finds them both annoying and interesting. There’s no boredom with them.

Ares

Ares thinks highly about himself, after all he is a part of the most powerful pantheon and the son of Zeus. He believes that he deserves only the best, which mean that whatever animal he gets, it will be a pure breed. If he chooses a cat or dog, it will receives a golden pillow to sleep on, a silver food bowl, the fanciest toys, the best caretakers, and… „the best owner”.

Thor

Thor has a cat. Most of the time they simply exist in their spaces and don’t interact. But every now and then a cat comes to Thor and demands a scratch, which Thor gives without hesitation. Loki once overheard Thor talking to his pet in those rare moments. Surprisingly, he speaks in a very gentle and caring tone, almost like mother to her child.

Hajun

He probably has a tank full of dead fish. Never cleaned, never fed, never bothered.

Lu Bu

Lu Bu has a pussy. He had no intention of having a pet, so the cat had to choose him, and Lu Bu obligated. He gives it lots of scratches and plays with it. Lu Bu is unfazed by the claws. Hearing her meow when he isn’t close puts him in a fighting stance. Nobody hurts his cat girl.

Hermes

Budgies! The guy has a lot of responsibilities, he's probably the last to fall asleep and the first to wake up, but he still finds time for his melodious pets. They always get the best snacks and for some unknown reason they become very excited when Zeus is around.

Göll

She has hamster, as small and cute as she is. Göll tries very hard to provide it a happy life, which probably means she’s trying too hard. She asks all his sisters for advice, and knowing how many siblings she has, she probably ends up with very conflicting opinions.

Zerofuku

Definitely rabbit. They are both full of energy, do not pose a threat and just enjoy themselves on a clearing somewhere.

Buddha

He doesn't have a pet, but he occasionally looks after Zerofuku’s and Göll's pets. He complains that he doesn't have time and that he doesn't care, but in the end he has a great time with the rabbit and hamster.

Noah

I think he ends up with a pigeon. He just feeds it from time to time in the same place and slowly tames it. Before he knows it, the bird becomes a new part of his life. He tells it about his problems, about Luna, Jack, Mother Goose and Shakespeare. This pigeon has therapeutic properties.

Qin

Definitely a husky. I see just two idiots keep talking to each other and arguing over nothing. The more the emperor demands something, the louder the husky's tantrum will be.

Honestly kind of sick of staying silent about this so I am going to say it. {just before that though I’ll say that people have every right to ship zosan if that’s what makes them happy this is just my opinion on the ship and the fandom a-bit :) } I don’t understand what makes zosan such a popular ship among the one piece community, I mean I get the whole “enemies to lovers” bs but that trope is just so boring and so unoriginal in my opinion like it’s the same old stuff every time and honestly they don’t have good chemistry together. Honestly terrified that enough people immediately hate bombed it for - ‘no Milly’ or ‘I don’t like his new hair’ reasons (without giving it a chance) putting off enough people that it might not end up being popular enough to renew….

Studio Orange have given this anime so so much love and attention they deserve so much praise for it! Visually it is STUNNING I can’t entertain the people who say it looks awful, that’s simply not true if you think that I firmly believe you are some weird anime purist crying about how anime must be in 2D or again you’re looking to hate on it.

The ATTENTION TO DETAIL is IMMACULATE - they’ve thought about everything - posts I’ve seen other users explaining much more eloquently than me - Vash has permeant glasses shaped sun burn, they’re in a desert sand is constantly falling out of everything (they’re taking the time to animate this!), Vash’s rein holding - technically accurate (one I can also attest to) and the best one for me - Vash’s marksman skills and his development from a child to an adult (this was such an interesting read by @totallynotsilversora) - the research, time and effort they’ve put in is IMMENSE and I love them for it.

I LOVE you STUDIO ORANGE - I haven’t seen enough people saying it! Thank you for creating such a stunning, detailed, heart wrenching show I’m so sorry you came into hostility and are having to fight it back at every turn - you’d hope some people would put down their blinders and give it a chance but sadly some just won’t.

I did not expect this to turn into such a long rant but man I’m so SICK of people just hating it for not being the original! A few months earlier~

Hearing my alarm clock singing to awaken me from my slumber was a signal for me to get ready. I hopped out of the thin sheets and did my routine for school as usual - brush my teeth, wash my face, brush my hair, and get into my school uniform. nothing too important as I don’t really mind how I look. walking down the stairs to greet my single-hard working mom and my little sister, I exit out the front door of my small house and walk to the bus stop.

Boarding my bus I sit where there were only two seats left. those seats being at the very back of the public vehicle. Watching the lifeless trees and boring people of the town pass by, the bus suddenly comes to a stop. the bus door then opens to the most beautiful boy I have seen in my entire life. you walked down the aisle and had no choice but to sit next to me. I stared at you in awe as you placed your black tote bag in between your oxford shoes. You turn to look at me to wave and introduce yourself.

“Hi. I’m y/n” accompanied yourself with the sweetest smile one has ever seen. Trying not to make the situation awkward I say hi and introduce myself back. “um I’m new to this school… do you mind if you show me around?” you say with shyness evident in your voice. “Of course. I’d love to.” I say back while giving a smile.

Showing you around was fun as we slowly got to know each other. being in this moment with you felt like a dream. though we’ve only met I’ve slowly come to realise that I like you.

Time skip to many months later~

we’ve been best friends for a while now. although those moments of friendship were deserved to be cherished I’ve come to realise this isn’t right. I’m straight. I asked to meet in the courtyard to have a talk. after the gut-wrenching talk i left you by yourself in the courtyard and left you all alone with tears brimming at your eyes. Even though this was for my popularity and image I did this for the better and to distance us apart.

out of curiosity, are you a hosie or a hizzie? you're pretty loud about your dislike for handon, but i rarely see you post either hosie or hizzie.

Honestly, I had to think hard to answer this because I really did enjoy aspects of both ships. Short answer, I like both but don't love either. If I had to choose I would likely say Hizzie.

With Hosie I feel like they lacked a lot of the depth despite them being the most popular ship in the show. Ironically enough, they followed in KC's footsteps in that sense. They never really had enough build-up for them to start a relationship at any point in the show and it didn't help that the writers seemingly put a ban on them in s3. After being called out for queerbaiting the audience they just decided to completely cut Hope and Josie off from each other, even in situations that would've called for them to interact (s2 literally ended with them having an episode heavily centric on their dynamic, yet there was no follow up in s3?).

Their dynamic for the most part bored me, even as someone who enjoys the friends-to-lovers trope. Often times their scenes felt a bit empty, which definitely could’ve been intentional on the writers part to dissuade people from shipping them to be fair! They just didn’t get enough content for me to fully jump on board. I do think that out of Hope's popular ships, they had the best chemistry. They felt very natural in the scenes they shared and could've been great in canon. Had DRR and Kaylee been given the chance, Hosie would’ve been one of the few canon Legacies ships that had real romantic chemistry.

Hope and Lizzie’s relationship very clearly the star of the show. The best elements of the show were jumpstarted by their relationship (their rivals-to-friends era in s1, their hilarious scenes in s2 and 3, and their tribrid/heretic, sirebond, and enemies era in s4). The writers put more effort into Hizzie than any other aspect of the show, including Hope and Lizzie's canon relationships with their boring boyfriends. Typically, Hizzie is the thing the Legacies writers are praised for the most, and the praise is deserved.

Based on the writing alone Hizzie would've gone down as one of my favorite TVDU ships, maybe even one of my favorite ships period. But I don’t think DRR and Jenny have much romantic chemistry. Very close friends and platonic soulmates, yes. Girlfriends... I'd have to actually see it to believe it. They had the potential to start something, especially in season 4, but I’m not sure how it would feel to actually watch them have romantic scene.

It’s hard to say which I'd rather have been canon because of this. I can't see how Hope and Josie’s relationship being entertaining to watch (assuming that I can't go back and rewrite their relationship) and unless DRR and Jenny were specifically toning down whatever romantic chemistry they may have, I can't see myself rooting for them to kiss on screen. If I absolutely had to choose? Before s4 I would’ve said Hizzie by a long shot, but s4 gave Hosie an edge (I love ships where one or both of them are obsessively down bad and s4 Josie fit that to a T. Josie caring more about the girl that beat her father nearly to death, threatened to kill her mother, and actually killed her sister? EAT EAT EAT!), but also the sirebond gave Hizzie a bit of an edge (how could you not get even a little buzz from “I hate you for making me love you”?)… Hizzie was the first Legacies ship I fell for so I feel like I’m always gonna be a bit bias towards them.

I’d choose either one of these ships over the train wreck that was Hope and Landon in a heartbeat though! Both had potential to be excellent in their own ways if H.ndon wasn’t shoved down our throats.

I fully believe that stranger things season 1 is the perfect example of something being so well-crafted that people don’t realise just how good it is.

obviously this isn’t a groundbreaking show. there’s very little in stranger things that’s new or original, and there’s nothing in the themes that’s going to change your life. we’re dealing with standard sci-fi and horror tropes, a bit of coming of age, a bit of teeny romance. and I think because of those things, people don’t actually talk about the craft of stranger things nearly enough.

I’m not saying people don’t know this show is good. it’s stupidly popular and absolutely blew up on release, but in all the mass appeal and the merch and the shilling for the characters, I don’t think the skill of the writing in that first season gets the discussion it deserves. I really think stranger things has possibly the best pacing of anything I’ve ever watched. the way it navigates different subplots and characters, developing them seamlessly before drawing them into a whole at the end - this is not an easy thing to do, but they manage it so effortlessly that the skill is invisible.

no moment in the first season is wasted. it’s carefully set up so that each pocket of characters - the kids, the teens, the adults - are all discovering slightly different things, so that no one character has all the information. everybody is united around the same goal (finding will), but they’re geared towards different parts of it, which makes it unbelievably satisfying when different sets of characters finally start sharing information. the show has a great deal that it needs to convey to us; on top of making the characters loveable and interesting (and there are a lot of characters), they also have to set up will’s disappearance, the monster and its rules, and the existence of the hawkins lab and the psychic children. the series is jam packed yet never feels overloaded with exposition - we learn exactly what we need to know exactly when we need to know it. the writers know when to hold back and leave us as ignorant as the characters, and when to create suspense out of the fact that we know more than the characters. 

like I say, I don’t think stranger things is a mindblowing bit of media in the grand scheme of things. but I would still give it a 10/10, because it’s absolutely perfect at what it’s trying to be. every time I rewatch it I’m struck by how merticulous it feels. as somebody who writes fiction and has seen behind the drafting process, how you come back to a story again and again to trim the fat and streamline the subplots and make everything as smooth as possible, i can feel that work when I watch stranger things. and it’s invisible work - as consumers, we’re never privy to that part of the writing process. we don’t see any sign of the countless drafts that came before the final story, and if it’s written well, we never should. a story told well feels like it never could’ve been told any other way

stranger things season one just comes across like a show that has been polished and polished until it was the very best that it could be. it’s a bit goofy and campy and not especially original, but the dedication to the craft is just incredible and I love to see it

why byler being endgame makes the most sense and would be the most beautiful outcome

*these are my own personal opinions!!

before i start, this is what shawn levy said in the stranger things worlds turned upside down book: “our show is an anthem for the marginalised and imperfect, precisely because the duffer brothers know from experience that the popular and easy road is rarely the most interesting one, and that character, grit, connection, and soul are bred in the same moments that challenge us most.”

what better way to represent the true meaning of the show than to have a beautifully written slowburn queer relationship between two main characters that started out as childhood best friends and ended up falling in love? it would be SO beautiful and powerful. mike and will also have the closest and most genuine relationship in the show already, and i can’t think of any other characters that fit together so perfectly.

not only that, but usually when there’s a love triangle in a show, the couple that kisses and starts dating right at the beginning doesn’t end up together anyways. the endgame couple is usually slowburn with proper build up that makes it all so much more worth it (and the characters in this relationship are the ones that have known each other for much longer. in fact, childhood best friends falling in love is the most popular romance trope and that’s exactly what mike and will are). this also allows viewers to notice and appreciate all the details and subtext throughout the entire show which is exactly what the writers want. they create their story so that people can become fully invested in it. having things shoved in your face and accepting it without question is so boring and pointless, especially when it’s so forced and repetitive.

when it comes to writing, world building and film-making, you’re supposed to analyse the characters; who they are individually, their relationships, their behaviour, their actions. the writers want people to go back, rewatch and think “wow, it was there all along”, and they do it so well that it’s not completely obvious to everyone but it’s still clearly there. that’s what makes it so beautiful and powerful. it also makes you realise that these writers truly do care about their work and they think about every little detail. even if the actual characters aren’t fully aware of things all the time, it’s like they slowly discover it with the audience and it makes you feel like you’re a part of this journey with them.

but when you have the same couple in the show with the most repetitive storylines (argue, lie to each other, get split up, reunite) AND they don’t feel like equals and can’t even be themselves with each other (they both literally admitted this in season 4), people are going to get bored and frustrated. many people already are. it’s also quite heartbreaking to see characters you love in a relationship where they can’t even be themselves. both el and mike deserve better. they deserve to be with someone who they feel comfortable with and someone who can give them the love they deserve. and just because mike was the first person to help el outside the lab and el has saved mike’s life doesn’t mean they had to rush into a romantic relationship especially when el didn’t even know what romance was. they already had such a beautiful and genuine friendship, and it’s clear they love and care for each other so much, but the show has proven over and over again that they just don’t work together romantically. they both met during a traumatic time and they became emotionally attached to each other because they helped each other when they needed it, but that’s still not a reason to start dating someone. having a partner is SO much more than that. they don’t even feel like equals, they don’t understand each other, they don’t have meaningful heart-to-heart conversions, they lie to each other, they don’t share any similar interests or hobbies (i don’t even think they know what the other likes?) and they can’t even be themselves with each other. it’s not fair or healthy to either of them. that’s why i’m tired of people saying things like “oh, you don’t ship this? that means you hate the characters and don’t want them to be happy”. like what, are you kidding me?! we love them and we want them to be happy, that’s literally why we’re saying this!!!! seriously, understanding the characters and realising they don’t work together shows you love and care about them MORE because you want the best for them. how do people not understand that?

even the general audience can tell when a relationship just isn’t working anymore. so many viewers didn’t feel any sort of emotion during mike’s monologue. firstly, because it was forced and full of lies, but also because they’re just sick of seeing the same couple and mike’s character being reduced to el’s boyfriend. that’s literally all he’s there for at this point. and if his behaviour doesn’t get explained in season 5 and he just became an asshole to will AND el for no reason, that’s just horrible and inconsistent writing. “he’s just a teenager” or “he’s a bit dumb” isn’t an excuse anymore. if the general audience hates mike and he doesn’t even feel like the same character from season 1 and 2, that just shows how bad he looks and they need to fix that.

will has also been involved too much now which is why they can’t end it with him suffering. this child has been suffering his entire life, even before the events of season 1. including him in this love triangle just to use his feelings for mike as a plot device to force mike and el back together is not only horrible writing, but it’s just simply disgusting, unnecessary and cruel (but i don’t think they would ever do that. they know what they’re doing). they’ve also kept mike’s feelings ambiguous during all this and they’re dragging it out. if will was going to get rejected, it would’ve already happened by now. or if he wasn’t going to end up with mike, they would’ve introduced a new love interest for him or made him not have one at all.

they’ve also done an incredible job at slowly introducing the possibility of byler this season, because most of the audience felt sorry for will. we saw his POV throughout this season and he was in every single mike and el scene (except for their fight). this was definitely intentional. the fact that mike couldn’t even tell his own girlfriend he loved her (even when she was sobbing in front of him) until will confessed his OWN feelings for him and gave him the painting just tells us that will is the person mike truly needs and values the most. mike only confides in will and he can only be his true self around him too. they have the closest and most genuine relationship in the entire show and they’re focused on differently compared to the other relationships. from the very beginning, they’ve made it clear that mike and will have something special. not only that, but there’s so many unanswered questions with them too. mike hasn’t even realised that the painting was from will and that he confessed his own feelings to him, and when he finds out, i think it’ll change everything. mike and will need each other more than anything and they haven’t even realised it yet.

byler also has the most popular and well-loved romance tropes: childhood best friends, first friend, soulmates, slowburn, each other’s safe place, sunshine and sunshine protector, angst, thinking their feelings won’t be reciprocated when they already are, understanding each other better than anyone else, “it’s always been you”.

that’s why mike and will ending up together is the only thing that would make sense narratively and it would be best for all the characters too.

y/n nishimura, well known in the school,not perfect grades(apart from english) but still good and best friends with maddison, one of heeseung’s ex-girlfriends— the longest relationship he’s had, being almost a whole month.

“beomgyu,” maddison batted her lashes at one of heeseung’s close friends “hey maddie” he smiled “so you know Heeseung and y/n?” he laughed “yeah, what about them” she shrugged “how long do you think they’ll last?” Beomgyu let out a loud laugh

“Heeseung’s dating her for 2 months tops” he shut up when Heeseung and y/n walked by with his arm around her, when they passed, Maddison continued interrogating him “what do you mean by that?” He looked around to see if anyone was listening. He could tell that Heeseung and y/n were actually more serious than his friends had let on from the beginning.. But he had already spilt the beans, so he told her the rest of the story.

“Jake and Jay made a bet with him. Date her for 2 months, each date he gets is 40 bucks, everytime they kiss it's 60 and to get her in bed is a full 100” her eyes grew wide “oh my god…”

she laughed “perfect, she deserves to get her heart broken in the end”

“See you after class” Heeseung smiled, pecking y/n’s cheek and handing her her books “bye Hee” she smiled, making her way to take her seat in front of Jake “so you and Heeseung huh?” he asked with a small smile “what about it Sim?”

he shrugged “finally, was tired of watching him watch you from the window with heart eyes” she turned to him chuckling lightly “again, you guys are creeps.”

“Where you wanna sit?” he asked “you can still sit with your team Heeseung, just because we’re dating, doesn’t mean we need to sit together at lunch” he nodded “i know, but i wanna sit with you today at least, show you off to whoever we sit with” he said, planting a small kiss at the top of her head “well in that case, lets go sit..”

She looked over to her table but Maddison glared at them with a scowl. “Uh..lets go sit with your friends'' he nodded, leading her to his table, as they sat down, they were all silent, then they all smirked and chuckled “well..hi y/n'' Jay smiled sitting next to her “hey..” she replied shyly. Yeonjun sat down in front of her with a straight face.

“guys, this is y/n, my girlfriend” Heeseung’s eyes were stuck on Sunghoon the whole introduction, who rolled his eyes “i see you’ve upgraded from your last long term slut Maddison..” both rolled their eyes at Sunghoon’s comment.

“y/n, you know I’ll always be there if you’d still have me..” Heeseung clenched his jaw and dug his nails into his palm, the only people to actually notice were Jay, Jake and y/n, she carefully pulled his clenched fist into her lap, playing with his fingers until he calmed down.

Jay and Jake made eye contact and frowned slightly. This won’t end well..

Maddison looked over to Heeseung and y/n “they’re cute aren’t they?” Stacy smiled, also looking at them “its not real” Maddison replied, stabbing her salad and eating it angrily all the girls turned their attention to Maddison ``what” she nodded, swallowing her food “Jay and Jake put money on it” the group of girls gasped “we should tell her then!”

She groaned and rolled her eyes “no, she’s a bitch, i only told her she can date him to be nice, not so she can actually date him, i mean it's like in the sister code, don’t date a friend's ex” one girl tilted her head to the side “but..didn’t you only date him so you can become more popular?” Maddison let out a frustrated groan “so? That might have been my motive, but i still loved him” “you guys were together for a month though?”

“Oh my god just shut up!” she stood, slapping her hands on the table, causing the whole cafeteria to be silent and all eyes turned to her, she looked around then ran away. “I..i’m gonna go check on her” y/n stood up from the table, Heeseung held her hand, trying to convince her to stay with his eyes “i’ll be back,” she kissed his cheek, causing him to blush and y/n to smirk while walking away to find her friend.

Slowly, she walked into the washroom “hey, Maddie?..” Maddison was looking at herself in the mirror, her mascara running and her lipstick smudged “y/f/n y/m/n, what‘re you doing here? Aren’t you spending lunch with your boyfriend?” she looked y/n in the eyes through the mirror, “i was, until everyone heard and saw your outbreak..what's wrong?..look if you want me to..to break up with Heeseung--”

Maddisons quickly denied that accusation, she knew that if y/n were to break up with him on her account, it would hurt yes, but God she wanted it to be 100 times more painful, and embarrassing “i mean,”

she sniffed “it’ll get some getting used to, but.. I know that you liked him since you guys were best friends when you were younger so..i’ll be okay, i promise” Maddison opened her arms for a hug, when y/n had accepted the hug, Maddison smirked wickedly.

After school, y/n went over to Heeseung’s house to help him study for the exam.

“so the exams usually has one main topic, you have, some short answer questions to answer, some photos that you have to write how its related to the topic so you have to pay attention to the wording, an easy way to answer them is to turn the question into a statement with your answer in it like we did in your Romeo and Juliet booklet, then there's some photos you have to analyse, there you have to write a few sentences to say how they go along with the topic and lastly, you have the option to write an essay, or a short story of the topic and i think you’ll do good with either. So to practise i got last year’s english exam so you can do” Heeseung pouted then pulled y/n closer

“can we do this later.. We just finished school like an hour ago” she sighed “Heeseung c’mon--” her words were cut off by his lips, as she began to relax into the kiss, Heeseung’s lips travelled to the edge of her lips, down to her neck where he placed open mouthed kisses, looking for that spot, when she had a lightly gasped, he knew he found it, carefully, his teeth began to scrape the area before lightly sucking, easing a strained moan from the girl, when he was happy with his work on her neck, he found his way back to her lips, slowly and carefully lying her down with his own bod hovering over her. “Heeseung? y/n?” the knocking on the door forcing them to pull apart “uh.. Just a second mum!” Heeseung called out, before standing to his feet and opening the door “your dad and i are going out to the store. We were just over at the Nishimura house and it turns out Riki is out of medicine so we’ll get that too. Keep your phones on, we told him you two are just here if he needs anything alright?” they both nodded hurriedly, his mum sent them a stern look, before nodding to herself and leaving.

“So..” Heeseung mumbled looking over at y/n shyly, she smiled sweetly and pulled him back to the bed, their lips meeting once more “i.. Don’t think I’m..” Heeseung shook his head with a faint smile “its okay, we could just...continue doing this” she nodded as Heeseung’s lips found her neck once again, “nd i think,” he moved to another spot “i should show Sunghoon” she moaned again, slightly louder than the one before “exactly who you belong to” her hands carding through his hair as he smirked on her skin “ ‘is alright if i do that right love?” she nodded breathlessly.

A phone rang, pulling them both out of the trance they were in. “we should,” y/n cleared her throat “we should check on Riki an..and work on exam practice” he nodded, admiring his work on her, “you look good” she stood up and gaped at herself in the mirror, lightly touching the fresh marks Heeseung had given her “our parents are gonna kill you” she giggled, turning to face him, he shrugged “it’ll be worth it, the look on Sunghoon’s face, nd its proof that you are mine.”

he kissed her cheek “c’mon, my brother needs us now” she chuckled, lightly pushing him away “alright, alright fine” Heeseung lightly jogged after her. “We’ll bring our stuff to my place and continue to study in my room”

“Poor bud caught a cold..” y/n mumbled walking back into her room where Heeseung was sat on her bed.

“Here” she handed him two of the three packets. He took it and went to the desk, “you have 2 hours right now, then another 2 tomorrow and 3 hours to complete your essay or short story, you can start..now” she began the timer on her phone, then lied back quietly so Heeseung could concentrate.

When the alarm went off, he stopped writing, looking at his papers. “How much of it did you do?” y/n asked softly “uh..i only just started on the pictures” she nodded “you’re not so bad on time, except, you might want to work a little bit faster tomorrow, you’d want a lot of time for the last part” he nodded with a sigh “what if i don’t pas--”

“Hey..don’t say that, don’t even think like that..” y/n carefully straddled him “you’ll pass,” she peck his lips “you’ve been doing so good recently” another peck “A’s on tests,”

this time, she boldly kissed his neck “and on assignments” lightly, she bit down, a moan slipping from Heeseung’s lips. He never allowed a girl to give him hickeys before, but with y/n, it was different, she was different. “Shit darling, ‘gonna get me worked up” he chuckled,his hands on her waist as she pulled away carefully and hummed “you should probably head home and rest up for tomorrow” Heeseung;s smile dropped slightly “i would ask if i could stay over, but..” she kissed his lips once more before standing to her feet and collected the papers, the two of them walked out the room and peaked into Riki’s room, he was still awake, but his eyes were droopy “get well soon Riki..” he looked up towards the door “are those..hickeys?” y/n quickly moved her hair to cover up the spots and blushed

“no..i uh...burnt myself while curling my hair this morning” Riki rolled his eyes and laughed, which turned into a rough cough, reaching for his water to soothe his throat. “You going home?” he asked, placing his cup down “mhm,” he nodded “cool, hopefully next time you see me isn’t like this” he smiled lightly “yeah, because you still need to show me that you can be captain next year. You know i got a lot of influence on whos next”

his smile grew “you sure you’re actually keeping your grades up for that”

y/n shook her head smiling, and Heeseung stuck his tongue out at the younger boy “whatever you say Riki” y/n took his cup to refill it, leaving the two boys to talk a bit more

“I am still very serious, hyung, if you hurt her..”

“Shh, Riki, she’s in the hallway.. I understand, don’t worry”

9-1-1 Season 6 - Constructive Criticisms #10

Bathena: Bobby & Athena

Bathena is the “ship” name for Athena Grant-Nash’s and Robert “Bobby” Nash’s relationship.  It’s a portmanteau of their first names and it combines the letter ‘B’ in Bobby with the name ‘Athena’ or B + Athena = Bathena.  Bobby and Athena are both main characters, they’re a couple who’s been together for five years while being married for four of them and they’re one of 9-1-1’s most popular relationships.

Overall they’ve been shown to share a deep and meaningful marriage but it hasn’t always been sunbeams and moon pies.  Individually, they’ve overcome a lot of emotional and physical hurt and they’ve accomplished those feats as a couple too in addition to them building a blended family that includes the two of them along with Athena’s children May and Harry and their father Michael who’s Athena’s ex-husband.  Over the years, they have suffered a lot of loss and pain but in season 6 the balance that was previously included between their good and bad times wasn’t effectively illustrated.

The foundations of their relationship include love, trust, care, comfort and support but in 6A and 6B, those attributes were overshadowed by all the focus that was given to their pasts and the deaths or near-death experiences of their family members and friends.  It appears the number of storylines they received were greatly affected by the attention given to those items and while the reasons for it are still unclear, the truth is they both received a limited amount of them for the entire season.  Athena had five storylines while Bobby barely had three.

In previous seasons, they were given interesting storylines both as individuals and as a couple but in season 6 they barely had any and most of the ones they received were treated like afterthoughts. Athena’s 6A storyline was the resolution of a 40-year-old crime that was the underlying reason for her becoming a police officer.  Bobby’s end of 6A storyline carried over into 6B and even though it was supposed to be about Bobby’s sobriety, it ended up including an arc that connected to May CANONICALLY admitting Bobby is Buck’s found dad.

The Bathena “ship” and the characters of Bobby and Athena weren’t given the attention they deserved during season 6 and unlike season 5, the reason for it was never provided. When compared with previous seasons, both their storylines and the amount of screentime they received were lacking and it doesn’t make narrative sense especially since the actress (AB) and the actor (PK) who play these two characters are top billed (their names appear on screen first and they’re both recognizable and prominent). The lack of screentime and lackluster storylines for these characters has presented 9-1-1 with a conundrum for season 7 because a lot of viewers watch the show just to see the two of them.

My tenth set of “constructive criticisms” regarding the Bathena ship and the individual characters included in the Grant-Nash family in season 6 are included below the cut.  Please note criticizing a TV show is NOT a bad thing especially since TV critics have been doing it for decades. Constructive criticisms are designed to help make something better and they are VERY different from negativity.  A person can offer criticisms about a form of entertainment they spend their time watching and not be negative about it the same way two people can agree to disagree on a topic.  Just because one person liked the season, they shouldn’t expect others to feel the way they do because everyone has their own opinions.  Simply put, two people can have different opinions about 9-1-1 and those opinions can COEXIST since they are not mutually exclusive.

Athena and Bobby have a wonderful, exciting and mature relationship.  They’ve been married for four years but that fact wasn’t addressed for new viewers until the end of the season in 6x17 which was the episode before the finale.  Both of them were married before and they’ve been through a lot of emotionally charged and traumatic situations.  Athena was attacked in 3x17 and Bobby was shot in 4x14 but they remained committed to each other even after they had an argument in 4x13.

Bobby and Athena are empty nesters because May’s in college and Harry’s in Florida with Michael and David, therefore they should be shown going on dates and taking vacations that include more than them just taking a delayed honeymoon cruise.  Their jobs are stressful and they deserve the downtime to rest and relax.  Aside from them being there to support each other during the difficult times, they were shown completing a leisurely run and visiting Maddie and Chimney in 6x13 and leaving for their cruise in 6x18 but they weren’t shown doing much else outside of work.  At least in season 5, they were shown going on an actual date.

In most instances, their relationship is portrayed in a way that makes it seem like other couples should aspire to be like them.  Even though it hasn’t been vocalized in CANON, it appears they’re setting the example the other ships on the show are supposed to follow.  Athena and Hen are best friends and they have conversations about their marriages all the time but Bobby’s always giving relationship advice to others, i.e., Buck, Eddie and Chimney, based on his own subjective perspectives but he’s been wrong more than once.

Even though they’ve been married for four years, in 6x13 Bobby said he didn’t know Athena ran cross-country in high school.  That didn’t make any NARRATIVE sense especially since Athena mentioned during that same conversation Bobby usually works out at the firehouse and he followed her statement by saying Wendell told him he should start running again.  She knew his workout routine but he didn’t know something about her past.  As a field sergeant, she has to run to chase perpetrators all the time so why didn’t they discuss this within their four years of marriage?  The way this scene was portrayed, it seemed like there are still some things they don’t know about each other but that’s not how their relationship was illustrated in the past.  What was the reason for this?  Who knows because it was never addressed but it appears it may have been foreshadowing for another popular ship on the show (this topic will be included in a future “ship” post).

Aside from the conversations they had about the Tonya Kingston investigation and Athena’s parents in 6x2-6x3 and Wendell from 6x9-6x12, they weren’t shown talking like they were during previous seasons.  The conversation they had in 4x14 before Bobby was shot was in-depth and meaningful because they finally discussed how Athena being attacked the year before affected Bobby. The one they had in season 5 after Jeffrey died was meaningful too but those conversations were lacking during season 6 and it was noticeable.

Almost everything Bobby and Athena do is done in secret, i.e., they dated in secret for months from the end of season 1 to the beginning of season 2 before they revealed their relationship, they got married at the courthouse with only May and Harry present in 2x18 and they left to go on their cruise in 6x18 without telling anyone.  Is it possible their relationship is being used to foreshadow another popular ship’s future relationship?

Bathena’s pasts

Bobby lost his whole family in an apartment fire before he moved to Los Angeles.  He spent a lot of time talking to his priest as a way to deal with it but the reality is he was planning to commit suicide until Chimney reminded him, he had a reason to live (Please note: EVEN THOUGH IN BUCK’S MIND HE THINKS HE SAVED BOBBY; THE TRUTH IS CHIMNEY DID).

Athena lost her family too but not in the same way.  She was married during season 1 but they got divorced and she spent time trying to move forward with her life before she started dating Bobby.

In season 6, a lot of time was spent focusing on their pasts.  Athena’s childhood was the focus of 6x2-6x3 because it involved Tonya Kingston’s murder. Bobby’s sobriety and all the things he’s overcome were focused on after Wendell’s death from 6x9-6x12. These storylines were heavy and since they only had a few storylines between them, their pasts overshadowed the limited number of good times they shared in CANON.

Death

Death surrounded their relationship throughout 6A and 6B and even though they were shown to have a fun, exciting and lively marriage that’s active with romance and support, most of it seemed rushed and a lot of it appears to have been shoved into episodes at the last minute.

Athena’s Tonya Kingston storyline was finally given the closure it needed but the story was emotionally heavy and it was depicted in a way that was darker than 95% of the storylines shown in previous episodes.

Bobby’s rushed AA sponsor storyline about Wendell that started in 6x9 wasn’t CANONICALLY accurate and it was turned into something that became more about Bobby mourning the possibility of Buck’s pending death instead of it being about Bobby dealing with the loss of his sponsor.  

All the deaths and near-death experiences that plagued Bathena’s storylines during season 6

Athena’s father had a stroke and it was a near-death experience in in 6x1

Tonya Kingston’s murder was finally solved in 6x3

Karen’s near-death experience in 6x6

Wendell’s death in 6x9

Bobby was dead in Buck’s coma dream in 6x11

The man Athena arrested died in 6x15

Bobby had a second near-death experience after he was trapped in 6x18 following the bridge collapse

No reason was provided regarding all the experiences listed above.  It would have been beneficial if one was included since Bobby and Athena’s relationship is active and lively which catapults it so far away from death that all the references to it didn’t make any narrative sense.  They dealt with it in 7 out of 18 episodes even though they barely had a total of 8 storylines between the two of them.

Found family gatherings

In the past, the Grant-Nash home and backyard was the primary location for a lot of celebrations; however that wasn’t the case in season 6.  Even though Hen’s end of second year medical school party was held in Bobby and Athena’s backyard in 6x5, there weren’t any other parties or gatherings there during the season.  Eddie visited them in 6x7 but that was so he could talk to Athena about a victim who was being scammed.  Hen visited their home in 6x8 but that was so they could scratch off lottery tickets (related post about stereotypes linked here).

What happened to the found family gatherings and parties they’ve always had at the Grant-Nash home?  In season 3, Buck’s welcome back and May’s graduation parties were held there and in season 4, the 118 plus Taylor Kelly (she shouldn’t have been there) had breakfast after the treasure hunt and there have been several other gatherings held there too but they were practically non-existent in season 6.

When are they going to be shown spending time with other couples? While they did spend time with Maddie and Chimney in 6x13, it shouldn’t be considered as leisure time since they were there to find out about Rhonda Fitzsimmons or “Carol the Coupon Lady”. They weren’t even shown spending time with Hen and Karen like they have been in previous seasons.  In 5x14, Hen and Karen were at Bobby and Athena’s house playing a card game with them.

Athena Grant-Nash

The Tonya Kingston storyline was a callback to a conversation Athena had with Hen in season 2.  She explained how Tonya’s disappearance was the reason she became a police officer.  It closed that part of her arc but the story was dark, emotionally heavy and traumatizing. Based solely on the storyline, it appears it would have been better if it was included in an episode of Law & Order: SVU since Tonya was a special victim or in an episode of Cold Case Files or Forensic Files since it was a 40-year-old murder that needed solving.

While it’s a story that needed to be told, for some viewers, it didn’t fit inside of the 9-1-1 universe.   Viewer comments after the episode aired were mixed and when it’s combined with all the other dark and heavy storylines in the season, it caused season 6 to be even more mentally draining than season 5 was even though it included Eddie’s PTSD and Maddie’s PPD storylines.

Athena’s best friend is Hen and even though they were shown having a few conversations in 6A and 6B, they didn’t appear to be as in-depth as the ones they’ve had in the past.  Athena told Hen about Bobby’s attempt to avoid the bars on their upcoming cruise in 6x1, they were shown scratching off lottery tickets in 6x8 and she explained the way Bobby’s usually right most of the time in 6x14 but there weren’t any conversations like the ones they’ve had in previous seasons included in 6A or 6B.

Whenever Hen was struggling to deal with a personal family matter, i.e., her and Karen’s sperm donor storyline in season 3, she would talk with Athena about it. The same is true in season 4 when Toni showed up unannounced but in season 6, they weren’t shown talking about Denny’s relationship with Nathaniel until 6x14.

She goes to the firehouse a lot but the audience hasn’t seen Bobby visiting her at the LAPD except for when the 118 is dispatched to go there.  Also, she hasn’t been shown having any friends outside of the 118 and it’s ok if she doesn’t but it would be nice to see her and Bobby have friends or family members they spend time with away from their jobs.

Robert “Bobby” Nash

Even though Wendell was shown to be an “important” person in Bobby’s life, it fell flat because HE WASN’T INTRODUCED until 6x9 and his back story was shown via flashbacks in 6x12.  Also, it wasn’t CANONICALLY accurate because in season 1, Bobby talked with his priest to deal with his traumas but that was completely obliterated in season 6 with the introduction of Wendell.  What happened to Bobby’s priest because the audience would like to know?

Bobby is LONELY whenever Athena’s at work and he’s at home alone.  He was so lonely in 6x4 that he seized “Hoover” the dog from the scene of a call at a frat house and took him home while Athena was still in Florida. Since she’s allergic, he had to give him away but the truth is, he hasn’t had any friends outside of his wife and the 118 since Michael left and moved to Florida in 5x8.  Why is he not being allowed to hang out with other fire captains or the LAFD chief?

Bobby comes from a legacy family of firefighters.  In season 5, he said there weren’t any other options for him and his brothers but they’ve never been shown in CANON and he’s never had a phone conversation with them either.  Other than his two biological children, none of his blood relatives have ever been shown on-screen but no reasons for it have ever been given.  It would be great if one of his firefighter brothers transferred to the LAFD because it would give Bobby a storyline all his own that wouldn’t involve anyone from the 118.

He got married at the end of 2x18 but he wasn’t shown contacting his parents or siblings to let them know about it. Do they even know he’s married?  He met Athena’s parents before they got married but the question is, has she ever been introduced to his family?  Does she even know them?  It’s been four years but they’ve never discussed his side of the family even though they’ve discussed her parents on more than one occasion.  Is he considered to be an outcast by them? Are his parents still alive?  It would be great if the show referenced this in season 7.

Bobby’s still a dad

Bobby was finally CANONICALLY established to be Buck’s found dad in 6x11 when May said he brought one child into the marriage but he only had one additional conversation with Buck after 6x11.  It was in 6x14 but the weird thing is, it wasn’t about their found father son bond because it was about Buck’s annual performance review. They spent time discussing recipes in 6x10 and in 3x10 Buck literally told Bobby he was one of the most important people in his life so WTF happened?  Did the Buckley parents overshadow Bobby’s role in Buck’s life in 6x10 and 6x11?  The answer to that question is YES! (Post about undeserved parent redemptions linked here).

May Grant

In previous seasons, May and Athena spent mother and daughter time together but that was lacking in season 6. While they did talk about May’s college experience in 6x1, ultimately, their conversation ended up being about Bobby since they were preparing to go on a cruise.  Their conversation in 6x8 was about Darius, May’s former high school prom date turned boyfriend and the remainder of their conversations in 6x10 and 6x11 were about Bobby being affected by Buck’s death and his time in the hospital.  When will Athena and May spend more quality time together?  May was supposed to be shown moving into the dorms in 6x1 but the scene was either deleted or never filmed.

Harry Grant

Harry’s in Florida with Michael but IIRC, he was only mentioned three times in season 6.  The actor who plays the character hasn’t been on the show since 5A and if he’s not going to return, maybe the role should be recast as recurring with another actor so Athena and Bobby can visit him in Florida.  Unlike May, who’s an adult in college, Harry is still young, maybe 14 or 15 years old.

Bathena’s Future

Most of the things that happened in their relationship appeared to be rushed and they came off as afterthoughts. The focus wasn’t really on them and the reason for it was never explained.  No depth was shown with regards to their relationship even though they have intimate and detailed conversations all the time. They know each other but they’re being shown like they are two ships passing each other in the middle of the night. They need a life outside of work so they can focus on other things besides the LAPD and the LAFD. Bobby and Athena spend quality time together and they have an active sex life but what else do they have that’s separate from the 118?

Death and their pasts were heavily focused on during season 6 but they weren’t shown talking about their future and it was very noticeable.  It would be fantastic if answers to the questions below are included in season 7.

Where are they going?

What are their goals?

What are their future plans?

Are they going to retire or keep working as an LAFD fire captain and an LAPD field sergeant until they’re forced to retire?

Will they sell their home and move to an area outside of L.A.?

It’s unfortunate but only TPTB know the answers to these questions while the audience continues to be left in the dark.  It makes narrative sense for them to start having these types of conversations now since they’re empty nesters and in a few years, they’ll have to seriously consider whether it’s time for them to retire.

The show doesn’t spend enough time focusing on Bathena’s good times because they’ve been too busy creating issues for all the couples on the show. While 9-1-1 is a procedural drama, it doesn’t negate the fact that couples should be shown having good times too because contrary to popular belief, HAPPY COUPLES do exist in the world and they aren’t constantly involved in a lot of drama.

Ultimately, Bathena’s relationship was treated like an afterthought for the entirety of season 6 and it wasn’t given the attention it deserved. Almost everything about their relationship was overshadowed by their pasts and the deaths or near-death experiences their family members and friends had while only showing a few snippets of the fun times Bobby and Athena have shared.  Why weren’t they celebrated more during the season? Will things be different in season 7? Hopefully their relationship will be depicted differently next season because as mentioned in the introduction, a lot of viewers watch the show to see Bobby and Athena therefore, if their storylines and screentime don’t improve, it could lead to the show losing more viewers.

Q: Do you think that he ( the guy from “Should’ve Said No”) secretly likes being named in your songs? TS: Yeah, probably. Those kinds of guys like getting attention – because I mean, what else is he doing? He’s probably with six different girls who don’t know that they’re being played. 

Q: Has he (Drew from “Teardrops on My Guitar”)  contacted you?  

TS: Actually, he showed up in my driveway a couple of months ago, and it was like in the movies where at the end the guy shows up in your driveway, and you have this awesome kiss – except it’s three years too late. I’m like, Why didn’t you do this years ago ?!? He was stranger by then, so I felt like I didn’t know him anymore. 

Q: Do you ever write songs about anyone other than yourself? 

TS: “Tied Together With a Smile” is about a girl I knew my freshman year. She was absolutely Miss Popular, a pageaant girl, and she looked perfect every day! Always had the cutest outfits, always looked teh best at prom. But sometimes when you get a litle closer to people who look that perfect, you realize that they don’t feel perfect.They feel they’re ugly. And that’s what happened with this girl- I became closer friends with her, and one day she confessed that she was bulimic. 

Q: How did that make you feel? 

TS: It was really hard for me to take. But I never want to make someone feel horrible. do not deserve to be treated like that. I try to reason with  them and be calm about it. After a while, I was just like, "You don't need to do that anymore." So I played that song for her, and I said, "Who do you think that's about?" And honestly, I don't think she ever did it after that. 

Q: Have you ever felt bad about the way you look? 

TS: Everybody does! Everybody looks in the mirror and is like, I wonder why her eyes are huge and mine are smaller. But I realized that if you’re lucky enough to be different from everybody else, don’t change. 

Q: Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be someone eise? 

TS: Oh, my gosh, if I were a different person and I could start all over, I would want to be Hayley Williams from Paramore! I think she’s awesome, and their music is amazing. But you know, I love country music more than anything  in the world – I would never change what I do.

FAVORITE BOOK – Who Will Cry When You Die? By Robin S. Sharma. It’s a self-help but It’s na easy read. Every page has a new thing you can do to show the people you love that they matter to you. It makes you appreciate what you have. I have a lot more good days now that I’ve read that.

TS: “I've been given the freedom to do whatever I want. I'm 19 –if want to storm out of the house and go to a club and get drunk and take my clothes off and run naked through Nashville, I can do that. I just really would rather not. I's as simple as that. It's not like I’ve been beaten down by some corporation that's forcing me to always behave myself - l just naturally do. Sometimes people are fascinated by the fact that I don't care about partying. almost to the point where they think it's weird.l think when we get to the point where it's strange for you to not be stumbing around high on something at 19, t's a warped world.”

TS: The schools that I went to and the amazing people I got to learn from relly turned me into who I am, and I wanted to give back. 

Q:If you’ve done all this by the time you turned 20, what do you want to do bu the time you turn 30? 

TS:I think I’d like to have made a couple more albums that I’m really proud of. I’d like to have a house. I’m not the kid the girl who makes a goal for herself of getting married or starting a family. I’ve never really put a timeline on those sorts of things. So I don’t have any personal goals by the time I’m 30.

You weren't necessarily shy. It just took a lot for you to open up to people, but once you did, you were loud and rambunctious with the people you cared about. You didn't feel the need to share your personality with all of Hawkins High like your best friend Eddie did, but sometimes it made you wish you were different.

You saw the way Eddie looked at Chrissy at lunch, in class, and in the halls. It was hard to ignore. Ever since she bought weed of him for her and her friends several months ago, Eddie had been pinning after her.

And he wasn't afraid to show his obvious affections towards her. Eddie would say hi to her every chance he got and would flirt with her shamelessly. You couldn't fault Chrissy for basking in his flirtatious advances. You would do the same if Eddie flirted with you.

But that was the problem. Eddie doesn't. You're his reserved best friend and that was it, no matter how much you wanted to be so much more. You hated how cliche you were. You fell in love with your best friend who has no romantic feelings for you whatsoever.

So you did what you do best, you started pushing Eddie away in order to protect your feelings. You made up excuses for not being able to hangout after school. You spoke only when necessary at Hellfire Club, and chose to sit at the far end of the table next to Jeff at lunch.

You thought because Eddie was so busy chasing after Chrissy Cunningham that he wouldn't notice. But you were wrong and underestimated Eddie's determination to figure out what was wrong with you.

It all came to a head when he cornered you in the student parking lot after school one day. Ever since you started to create distance between the two of you, you always booked it out of class when the day ended. You didn't want to spend another second around Eddie when all he wanted was to watch Chrissy practice on the football field every day. He beat you to your car and refused to let you leave.

"What is going on with you?" Eddie accused, crossing his arms over his chest as he stared at you.

"Nothing," you answered, attempting to reach behind him to open the driver's side door.

"Bullshit! We haven't hung out in weeks and it's like you want nothing to do with anymore. You don't talk to me. You don't sit next to me at lunch anymore. You won't answer my calls. What did I do?"

Your heart aches at the sound of his voice breaking. It wasn't his fault that you couldn't get a handle on your emotions for your best friend. He can't control who he has feelings for. You took the easy way out and hurt Eddie in the process.

Your shoulders sag and you sigh loudly before meeting his warm brown eyes. "You really don't see it, do you?"

"See what? I can't see anything if you won't talk to me," he bit back angrily.

"I love you, okay?!" you shouted, glaring at him. "And I know you don't see me in the way I want you to, which is fine because it isn't your fault. But seeing you pin after and flirt with Chrissy hurts, okay? It's why I've been acting weird. Chrissy is pretty and popular and everything I'm not."

Tears coat your cheeks as you embarrassingly wipe them away. You felt pathetic and stupid and now you were bracing for Eddie's rejection. You should've just made something up. Now you're going to lose your best friend.

You tear your eyes away from him and sniffle quietly as you wait for Eddie to inevitably reject you and destroy your friendship all in one fell swoop.

"You're wrong, y'know," he murmured, taking a step towards you.

You roll your eyes at Eddie between your tears. "Eddie, c'mon. I see the way you look at her. You don't have to lie to me. I'm a big girl. I can handle the rejection if that's what you're worried about."

Eddie gently tugs your hands away from your face and tugs a loose strand of hair out of your face. He smiles softly at you and wipes away your tears. "Have I ever lied to you? The only reason I've been hanging around her is to try and get over my feelings for you. I figured if I put my attention on someone else, the feelings I have would pass."

Your eyes widen at his admission. It makes your heart race and your palms sweat. "W-What?" you stuttered in disbelief.

Eddie grins and nods his head. "Mhm," he hummed, "I love you."

Your mouth drops and Eddie's laughter fills your ears. Your brows pinch together as you try to come up with a reply. Eddie's nose brushes against yours and you swallow hard. "I swear to god, if you're punking me I will—"

Eddie cuts you off with a tender kiss as his mouth meshes with yours. The gasp that escapes your throat vibrates against Eddie's lips and he grins, holding the side of your face. "Does this prove you wrong?" he whispered.

You pull away and lick your lips, meeting his eyes. "I think... I think you need to kiss me again just to be sure."

Eddie laughed again, pulling you in for another kiss.
