Character Design Thoughts for Shen Yuan & Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky in ‘The Untold Tale’

(This is a Follow Up to This Post)

Hello, @averydrearydiana! Loved reading through your tags! I’m excited that you’re excited! Since I’m also seeing comments on AO3 speculating about how our transmigrators are going to appear as in The Untold Tale, I might as well give my current thoughts and have this archived on tumblr for future reference.

A fun fact about TUT is that a lot of the imagery in the story is inspired by Chinese PVs and popular C-dramas and literature. Since TUT is conceived as a lovestory to SVSSS, one element that I’d wanted to incorporate is playful attempts at satirical genre deconstruction. With that comes with me playfully poking fun at some clichés or things I’ve noticed in Chinese works.

Shen Yuan’s Celestial Design

Before I talk about his mortal appearance, I have to give a lil context about his celestial design in the story. We already know what he looks like as the celestial fortuneteller in TUT’s cover art that I’ve already posted on tumblr. As everyone knows, I was heavily inspired by this Chinese PV:

Among the things I’ve noticed are the fictional characters with white hair. We have a whole subculture of fans liking male character designs with white hair in anime and animation. Taking that a step further, they’ve even shown up in C-dramas, i.e. Teng She from Love and Redemption (technically more blond than platinum white, but shhhhh, just let me have this), Dong Hua Dijun from Eternal Love of Dream aka Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms (rest assured, I’m aware of the source material’s controversy, but let’s not get into that here), etc. One of the tags for TUT is Opposites Attract. Luo Binghe’s color coordination is aligned with black and red mostly. Now, visually speaking, what’s the opposite of that?

The yin yang symbol.

Fun fact, besides black vs white, green (SY) is the complementary color of red (LBG) on the color wheel. Now taking everything I’ve said, to take it even one step further, my thought process at the time was, “why not go the extra mile then and just have SY be albino? Within context of the Heavenly Realm, that character design makes sense.” TUT is me subtly riffing off what I can (for the good ol’ meta humor), but making the content come across as a legitimate story experience. As Protagonist A and Protagonist B, LBG and SY have to look visually striking together. With all that said, let’s talk about....

Shen Yuan (Mortal)

I’ll keep some elements of his albinism from his celestial form (light sensitivity and pale skin mostly), but SY’s mortal form is essentially SY pre-transmigration but within context of the xianxia genre.

For his appearance, let’s just keep this Author’s Note^ and TUT’s summary in the back of our brains. This is the fanvid I was originally inspired by for SY’s mortal appearance:

For what he wears, I’m currently feeling very heavily inspired by this PV:

His mortal appearance wouldn’t be considered as “strange” or “otherworldly” compared to the “ethereal fairy-like beauty” SY retains in the Heavenly Realm, but as a side-effect of the 【PROTAGONIST’S HALO】 and his +20 CHARISMA stat, he would still be considered attractive to people even when he takes on a mortal appearance. (Mainly, I like the idea of Bing gē taking large shots of vinegar seeing SY turning heads no matter which appearance SY takes on, and Luo Binghe glaring at these “insects” for even “daring to lay their unworthy eyes on his fated person.” The thought of it just makes me laugh.)

What I mean by how SY’s mortal form being very much based on how SY appeared pre-transmigration but in the xianxia genre context, I mean he’ll have his dark hair (but longer), a “scholarly air” (as a nod to his novelist background), dark eyes, and even his glasses technically (the divine monocle mentioned in ch3, which is also a subtle nod to Sha Po Lang and a riff on men wearing monocles in other Chinese works andit’salsoforeshadowingbutshhhh).

Shen Yuan originally was an author in his forties pre-transmigration, so I like the idea him having a mature air about him in the Cultivation World as well. So for both our Protagonist B’s celestial and mortal appearances, the idea is that you can look at him and immediately recognize him as a protagonist of the danmei setting. My only two prerequisites are that his appearance screams “hello, I’m Protagonist B” and that he appears in “scholarly” attire.

Keeping in mind the original tumblr post where I wrote my thoughts on who I’m transmigrating him as, currently I’m thinking it’s a combination of these two PVs for his mortal form:

As a nod to him being a successful novelist, I wanted him to also appear scholarly. A scholarly crown prince, if you will. For his attire, imagine all the C-drama clothing you’ve seen actors wear in period dramas, and you already have a good idea already of the direction I’m heading down.

As the prince of the cannon fodder emperor, I very much like the idea of Airplane perhaps having a baby face and brown hair (as a small nod to fanon!SQH from SVSSS) but with a great body (a huge source of inspiration are clothing worn by Prince Yu and Prince Jing of the three princes from the C-drama Nirvana in Fire). Since Airplane will also be able to select his Character Creation stats like Shen Yuan had, one thing I’m fairly certain is that he will max out his CONSTITUTION—because “game logic” and not wanting to die. (For those who don’t know, the CON stat in tabletop RPs essentially indicates a person’s overall health, wellbeing, and vigor checks...so him maxing it out is equivalent to him being as invulnerable as a cockroach. A high CON means overall healthiness, which means your character probably is full of energy and vitality, can heal rapidly, and will rarely get sick—if ever. Low CON usually means a higher susceptibility to sickness and disease, wounds that fester and linger, and a general fatigue would haunt you, etc.) Like how SY zeroed in on his CHA, Airplane would have prioritized +20 CON (+5 modifier), especially knowing the fate that’d await him as a prince and the vicious environment that is expected for palace intrigue plots (the harem is a big factor, with concubines and consorts and even the empress sabotaging each other—just to win the favor of one man). Against poison or whatnot which is a cliché in palace intrigue plots, rather than relying on luck, you typically stand a better chance of passing the CON check if you have a high modifier aiding your checks. He’s basically become impervious to illnesses, most poisons (probably being able to spring back quickly), and is considered the healthiest prince in all the mortal imperial line. <- This could be taken both seriously and humorously simultaneously.

Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky (Deity/ Celestial)

For Xiàng Tiān Dà Fēijī’s “actual divine body” that is currently asleep and won’t be awakened until Airplane completes his mortal trial to “regain his cultivation powers,” the face should obviously be similar but, as Xiàng Tiān Dà Fēijī, he would appear regal and dignified as a god of this world:

Imagine something along the lines of mortal Airplane as the man on the right, celestial Shen Yuan in the center, and deity/ celestial Airplane as the man on the left. I envision a respectable appearance that would knock the air out of Mobei jūn and make him recognize Airplane despite any visual dissimilarities, and in a way we have the Four Beauties of China: Luo Binghe, Shen Yuan, Mobei jūn, and Xiàng Tiān Dà Fēijī.

I will say I currently have an idea of making Airplane have “golden” eyes in both his celestial and mortal forms. (Spoiler alert: in my notes, I’d written down to give Airplane yellow eyes as an Easter egg to Yanxi Palace, I believe, where there was an episode where someone of the imperial harem schemed against the empress and almost had the newborn baby killed because that and the yellow skin was an inauspicious omen. We later find out through a timely intervention that the true reason was due to jaundice—because of the diet/ pregnancy cravings she ate for a period of time which resulted in her son’s symptoms. With Airplane’s high CON and another trope I’m bringing in which’ll have to do with the Medicine King’s Valley/ Valley of the Medicine King, his yellow eyes are the only side effect that lingered from that traumatic event which would have killed him had they gotten away with their scheme. A lot of palace dramas have to do with the vicious harem plots, so this would potentially be one such example.) The reason being that this is the identifying marker for MBJ to clue in that they’re the same man he will have loved. And I think that has romantic potential.

Misc.

Now addressing the other tags, yes, essentially speaking, Mobei jūn might just very well experience his very own Big Damn Reunion trope that Bing mèi had suffered from SVSSS. Poor MBJ. He’s in a tumultuous ride of his own with him considering Airplane as his own fated person, hahaha. But for the Moshang dynamic, I want him—a demon—to find himself taken with Airplane in his mortal guise—and subsequently his true celestial appearance once he finds out. I very much also want SY to jokingly snark to his fellow transmigrator-and-writing-colleague about him getting in a relationship with his own “creation” (MBJ). And Airplane would jokingly snark back about SY “ruining his ‘first son’ as well” (LBG). If you can read between the lines of that, then kudos. I’m glad to hear you’re looking forward to the palace intrigue.

I’m especially very happy to hear you’re looking forward to the descriptions! I personally love worldbuilding in the stories I consume I’m an interior designer and realtor irl, so I’m glad my love of house details and landscape, etc shows in TUT. For the pseudohistorical vibe, in the Mortal Realm, I will be referencing the Forbidden City of our Chinese history and a couple popular period C-dramas. Take the settings of period C-dramas like Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace, Yanxi Palace, and Nirvana in Fire as examples for what will be awaiting us when we finally meet Airplane in his mortal body. In the Heavenly Realm, the descriptions will be heavily referencing shows that contain aesthetics such as those of Ashes of Love, Love and Redemption, and Eternal Dream.

Take this with a grain of salt just in case I change my mind later on, but in the chapter when we meet Airplane for the first time, I probably won’t say which character he is in the first scene. I’ll give plenty of hints in the first scene so that you all can make your guesses before the big reveal, but I’m fairly confident you all or most of you will be able to pinpoint who he is among the cannon fodders. We’ll meet the emperor, who is discussing with his sons about the matter regarding the approaching calamity that is Luo Binghe. Then when we transition into the second scene, we’ll know exactly which “royal prince OC” it is that our beloved Airplane has transmigrated into, hahaha.

(*Keep in mind, for everything written above, some details are subject to change. Nothing is official until it appears in the story, or I’ve actually drawn my ideas out and posted online to both my tumblr and twitter. These are just my current thoughts.)

A goal of mine for TUT is to make the story widely accessible, meaning it doesn’t matter if the reader is new to the SVSSS fandom or aren’t familiar with the Easter egg references or meta jokes or subtext or even the Chinese culture, or even if English is not their first language. Having knowledge beforehand might help someone notice more hidden details in TUT, yes, but it is a humble wish of this writer for her esteemed readers to be able to dive into the story and get the enjoyable feeling like they’re reading a genuine danmei novel. It really makes me smile whenever I hear feedback that I am able to emulate that experience.

Fantasy Novels that Imprinted on me

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine I think I asked my mom to buy this for me at a scholastic fair in 6th grade. I remember circling it in the monthly scholastic magazine my school handed out. It’s the reason why I’m a slut for fairy tale retellings. It’s also the reason I have a lifetime grudge for the movie adaption, why I hardly read books anymore on the off chance they will be adapted to prevent untold heartache like I did when the Ella Enchanted Adaption came out. Avatar fans, I know your pain. The original book from 1998 was read many times over and has since fallen apart, but my friend who knows how dear this book is/was to me got me a sturdy hard back version with the original cover art. Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde I found this in my junior high library and I was intrigued. Girl accused of Witchcraft? Sent to be eaten by Dragon? Dragon helps her get revenge? Hell yes sign my 7th grade ass up for that adventure. I ended up checking this out so much from school, I decided to just buy it from a bokstore in early high school. It’s a quick read, a delicious story of revenge, questioning morals, and highly influenced my writing style as the years went on. Dragon Riders of Pern Series by Anne McCaffrey Okay, so looking back it’s not that hard to see *why* I fell so hard and so fast into the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ fandom. I definitely have a type when it comes to reading fantasy and dragons are my jam. I also found the first of this series in that same junior high library and eagerly devoured the the three books in the main series and then moved onto different books set in the same world. It was a bit more mature and serious but a beautiful and interesting fleshed out world! There was also revenge involved. Okay I have two types. Dragons and Revenge.

The Everworld Series by K.A. Applegate I found book #1 in the local library YA section in 8tth grade (I used to spend hours there before the Ella Enchanted movie adaption) and read it and was immediately smitten. For the time, the pop culture references were fresh, funny, and the mystery and danger kept getting more intense. The premise was amazing for a little nerd like me who loved memorizing Greek mythology and seeing 4 modern-day teenagers transported to a world where these old gods lived was like my mind on fanfiction before I knew what fanfiction was. It was a a high octane, always six inches from death while tackling relatable and serious issues for teens in the early 2000′s/late 90′s kind of story and it remains my favorite series to this day. I scored them all for myself when an acquaintance in high school heard me raving about it and gave me his series cause he didn’t want it anymore. I leant book #1 to a friend in college and never saw it again :( Old Magic by Marianne Curley I found this book in early high school, and I don’t remember exactly where but maybe my local library YA section. it was 1999. It delved into time travel, paganism, and a reluctant hero and competent heroine trope that ended in romance. I am a sucker for a good romance. I ended up buying this one as well. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer I saw the cover of this in Barnes and Nobel in the mid-2010′s, and remember, as a slut for fairy tale retellings, I was like ‘TAKE MY MONEY’ and I promptly took it home and DEVOURED IT. I had to go back to B&N about two more times that week so I could get the rest. I still to this day have not finished a series that fast. It was a great series, really interwove the fairytales, left me feeling satisfied and loving the characters. The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher So I have never read this book with my own two eyes but have listened to it about 3 or 4 times on audiobook because damn, whoever did that reading has a great voice and I knew it was a winner when they were describing a battle scene and I was riveted. I usually kind of check out and skim battle scenes. This is one I constantly recommend to my friends because it’s another one where there’s a cool, fleshed out world of steam airships and houses that rule at the top of society ala Game of Thrones, and talking cats. This is way more of an adventure story but it’s rich with imagery. My husband introduced me to this because it’s by his favorite author. It’s supposed to be a series and I am eagerly awaiting the second book.

Basic plot: In an OUAT-inspired story that combines OCs from various different stories, Ben awakens from a coma and discovers that his memories of Auradon were nothing but dreams. Breaking the Silence (Fafnir/Flavio) - Etrian Odyssey Untold 2

Title: Breaking the Silence

Summary: Flavio is cursed. Unable to speak until the conditions of the dark spell are met. The ever indifferent and relatively unhelpful Mahogany of the Guardians suggest they use the True Love method.

Notes: Set in EOUntold2 with guest appearances of Lynus and Mahogany from the CtS Series/Guardians guild.

AN: Been a while since I wrote a oneshot, let alone a Fafnir/Flavio one. Well, here we are. Enjoy~

Flavio sat awkwardly in the inn’s tea room. The fire was blazing, as it usually was that late afternoon, and the chairs were as comfortable as ever. Yet, he shifted awkwardly in his seat. The need to set upon his feet and pace was overwhelming, but he stayed put.

He could barely comprehend what he had just learnt from the sympathetic medic and indifferent hexer that sat across from him. He opened his mouth in an attempt to ask them to please repeat what they had just revealed. But nothing would come out. No words would pass his lips.

And if they were right, no more words would pass his lips until the curse he had been cast upon him had its conditions met.

“Mind running that pass me again?” Fafnir thankfully asked from where he sat next to Flavio. Asking the words Flavio himself could not.

Lynus, the gentle medic, sent Fafnir another purely sympathetic look. “It’s a curse,” he replied bluntly. “A curse that is preventing Flavio from speaking. It’s an…unusual one, I will admit. But a curse nevertheless.”

“A curse is merely a dark spell,” Mahogany, the far too nonchalant hexer added. “Conditions need to be met before the curse can be lifted.”

“Yes, we understand that much,” Fafnir returned, perhaps too tersely at that. “But what are those conditions?”

Lynus opened his mouth, no doubt ready to give them a comforting and reassuring response. However, Mahogany spoke up before he had the chance.

“No idea. May have something to do with true love or something similar.”

Lynus closed his eyes and uttered a silent sigh of mild frustration while Mahogany continued to stare at both Flavio and Fafnir with aggravating indifference.

Flavio had to admit that he felt his eye twitch in annoyance, too. Hexers truly were a breed of their own.

“This isn’t a fairy tale,” Fafnir returned, his own frustration barely restrained.

“No, it’s a dark spell,” Mahogany quipped in response. “Lynus may be able to learn the conditions through examination and healing, but there’s no harm in trying the whole “true love breaking the spell” that fairy tales are fond of.”

Fafnir glared at Mahogany for a moment longer. And yet, his expression unexpectedly took on a thoughtful turn; his head tilted slightly to the side, the corner of his lip slightly unturned, and his eyes holding a faraway gaze.

He was considering something.

He…wasn’t actually considering what Mahogany said, was he?

Lynus pushed himself to his feet, that ever present gentle expression of comfort on his face. “I’ll do some more research. And we’ll leave the two of you for a moment to truly comprehend your…situation.”

Flavio attempted the thank the ever-considerate medic, only to snap his mouth shut a moment later. Yep, he still couldn’t talk.

And for someone who liked to chatter when nervous or uneasy, his foreseeable future was going to be difficult.

Lynus sent him another sympathetic look as he snared Mahogany by his elbow and prompted him to follow him from the room. The hexer followed, still far too casual and nonchalant. Something that Flavio found silently annoying.

Wait, not silently, that was a slip up.

…Gah, he was going to be finding a lot of things silently annoying, wasn’t he?

“Do consider the True Love Method,” Mahogany casually threw over his shoulder.

When the two members of the Guardian guild left the room, they shut the door behind them.

And silence followed.

Silence…

Silence had never been so loud. Flavio never paid much attention to the noises found in solitude. The crackling fire. The rustling of leaves from the wind outside the window.

The sound of Fafnir breathing next to him.

Instinctively, Flavio reached up with his hand to gingerly touch his neck. There was nothing there for him to feel. No markings. He didn’t even have a sore throat.

Visibly, physically, there was nothing there.

But something was stopping his voice dead.

Unable to speak was sure to cause trouble in the labyrinth, right? Was he going to be a burden in future expeditions?

“You’re not going to be a burden,” Fafnir suddenly stated, responding as if he had just read his mind.

Flavio felt a sudden spike of panic. Had he just read his mind? Did he have that ability? Was that another skill of the Fafnir knight? What else did he-?

“I can’t read your mind,” Fafnir interrupted his thoughts, suspiciously responding as if he really had just read his mind. “I just know what you’re thinking. Everyone else comes first. First thought was bound to be musing about what trouble you could cause. And the answer is none.”

Flavio blinked. In that moment, he was grateful that he was unable to speak. He hadn’t a clue what to say.

A part of him was genuinely happy that Fafnir knew him so well. While another part of him was disgruntled that Fafnir knew him so well.

But, not being able to speak in an environment that could turn deadly within seconds, an environment that a life of a teammate could be saved with a word of warning, was going to make things difficult. There was no way around it.

Flavio was the survivalist of the team. His job was to keep an eye on their surroundings. To warn his teammates of any threat. And the quickest, easiest way to do just that was to speak. It was how they worked together. They didn’t have time to re-establish their formation to integrate his new and sudden form of mutism.

He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if something happened to one of his teammates because he was unable to warn them in time.

If something happened to Fafnir…

He…had better find a way to restore his voice. And he had better find it quickly.

“As much as that hexer annoys me, he may be onto something,” Fafnir unexpectedly stated, his voice quickly pulling Flavio from his musings.

Flavio furrowed his brow and tilted his head questioningly to the side as he stared at Fafnir.

“You want your voice back as quickly as possible, right?” Fafnir asked him.

That much was obvious, but Flavio nodded his head nevertheless.

Fafnir shifted in his seat, pivoting to face him. Flavio instinctively did the same. Somewhat startled by the intensity of Fafnir’s eyes.

“Can I try something?” Fafnir asked quietly.

Once more inwardly thankful that he was unable to speak, Flavio nodded his head.

Fafnir raised his hand and gently placed it against Flavio’s cheek. The touch was gentle, and it prompted Flavio to draw in a sharp intake of air. He was certain that his eyes widened slightly, but he did not turn away.

Flavio felt his heartrate increase when Fafnir slowly leaned forward. His face moving toward his.

The world around them faded as Flavio’s eyes closed on their own accord and his body moved forward on its own, intent on meeting Fafnir half way.

Fafnir’s lips touched his, tentatively at first, but became emboldened when Flavio pressed forward. As Fafnir pressed his lips, his mouth melding against his, heatedly and yet warmly, a strange tightness that Flavio didn’t realise he had against the back of his neck suddenly dissipated.

It was an odd sensation, but highly insignificant compared to the feeling that Fafnir was lighting within him.

Flavio paid little attention to the very audible sigh he murmured as he tilted his head to the side ever so slightly. The angle allowing for Fafnir to thread his fingers through his hair. And to deepen the kiss further.

He was so deeply lost within the sensation of Fafnir kissing him that he hadn’t realised that he had also pulled him closer. Half on his lap and half of the couch they sat upon.

And he hadn’t realised that he wrapped his own arms around Fafnir’s neck until he heard a sound. A sharp sound. A telling sound of someone clearing their throat.

With an “eep!” of surprise, another sound he emitted that he paid little attention to, Flavio all but tore his lips away from Fafnir’s incessant ones. And stared wide-eyed at the now open door to the tea room. A doorway that held two familiar individuals.

Flavio was rendered speechless. And yet, he felt that it wasn’t because of the curse. But of pure embarrassment!

The right thing to do was the scramble off of Fafnir’s lap and splutter something in response. Some kind of excuse to explain the all-too scandalous situation.

But he couldn’t move. No, he didn’t want to move.

Perhaps he was too shocked. Too comfortable. Or too unwilling to end the very thing he had wanted for so long.

Annoyingly, Mahogany looked smug, yet still indifferent. Smugly indifferent? Was that possible?

Wait, no, there was more pressing concerns to attend with. Namely just how much did they, ah, see?

“Everything,” Mahogany replied. Yet another person who answered his unspoken words. “And I was right.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Fafnir returned sharply, doing nothing to hide his annoyance. “You can gloat later. We’re busy right now.”

Flavio felt his blush deepen, but still, he did nothing to pull him away from Fafnir. Not that he could even if he wanted to; Fafnir had tightened his arms around him, ensuring that he wouldn’t scramble away.

“B-but the curse…?” Flavio suddenly asked.

And his eyes widened a fraction later when he heard his own voice.

His voice was back?

“The curse seems to have been lifted,” Lynus explained, he, too, unexpectedly unbothered by the situation.

As if wasn’t the first time he walked in on someone, ah, making out.

“And we’ll leave you be,” Lynus continued, a small smile on his lips. “Just wished to let you know that whoever placed that curse upon you, Flavio, appears to be attempting to play matchmaker. Lucky for them, it seemed to have worked.”

Lucky for them, indeed.

Whoever they were.

Though, it was unsettling that someone would go to such…extremes. Was he just a test run? Where they just feeling bored?

Did they even care?

“There’s going to be a spate of cursed mutes, isn’t there?” Flavio mused allowed.

“Probably,” Lynus replied with a sigh. He then took Mahogany by the elbow once more. “Dinner will be ready in an hour. You may wish to move yourself to a more…private setting.”

With that said, Lynus offered them another smile before he pulled Mahogany from the room and promptly closed the door.

The second the door made an audible click to indicate that it had been closed, Fafnir took Flavio by the chin. “Where were we?” he asked.

He, however, didn’t want for an answer as he immediately pulled Flavio closer and kissed him once more.

While Flavio was grateful that he had his voice back, he was also intently pleased that he wasn’t going to be needing to use it for a while.

Well, not use it in a normal sense, that was.

No way. Why would I do that? I'm not that desperate to get noticed by him. No. My answer will always be 'no'. No one can change my mind. I will not risk my reputation for him. Call me coward and stupid but I don't really care at all.

“Why not, Hannah? All you have to do is to confess your feelings and all.” Rei insisted. Wow. Confess my feelings? That would be the end of me!

“You're really a coward, sensei.” Rica added.

“She's just afraid of getting wrecked by Shoyo.” What the actual fxck?! I grab my friend, Lou and gag her with the bread that I'm about to eat. For fxck’ sake! We are surrounded by other people!

“Seriously, guys? Did you bring me here just to gang up against me?” I question their true intentions after inviting me–no! They dragged me here! In this camp that I thought they organized for the four of us! “I shouldn't have trusted you guys, you're all traitors!” I said in my annoyed and on the verge of crying tone.

No matter how hard I tried to tell myself that I should stop, I always find myself looking at his direction.

Up on the hill, I am once again, a few feet away from him. Hinata Shoyo, you are the dream that haunt me during daylight.

I used to read fairy tales when I was a kid. And up until now, I still read them. In hope of finding the right one. In hope of feeling the same euphoria all over again.

Freak. That's what they called me back in high school. Freak. Because I dressed like a rat during our play. A pest who got lured by the Pied Piper of Hamelin into the Weser River. If someone will ask me which story is my favorite among the hundred of tales I've had read, I'd tell him/her that it's the story of the rat-catcher and his magic pipe.

Why? Why not Cinderella? Why not Snow White? Why not the fairy tales wherein princesses were saved by their princes?

My answers will always remain constant.

Because my heart was taken by an ordinary man.

And I have no plan of taking it back.

For I am no princess and he is no prince.

Shoyo, after all these years, I'm still into you.

“Where's Lou, Rica?” I asked my other friend. My eyes and fingers are busy doing some assessment tools on my laptop. I know. I know. I should at least let myself enjoy this temporary freedom for as long as I can but my top priority for now are my students. I must work hard.

“Probably inside a tent somewhere, banging Wakatoshi. Come on, sensei! I'd like to dance with them!” Rica pointed the bonfire in the camping site where most of the guests, including all the members of Japan National Team are dancing around it while holding a bottle of ale.

“Then join them! No one's stoping you from doing so!” I lift the disposable coffee cup from the wooden table and finish the remaining liquid mixture in one chug. Damn. I think I already reached the limit of my caffeine consumption for a day. But I want more! I still have work to do!

I signal the barista to serve me another cup and he nodded.

“What’s Rei doing there? Is he, her friend, too?” Rica asks, stopping my fingers from hitting the keys of my laptop. Again, she pointed at a specific spot. This time she's directing my eyes back to the coffee counter.

“Not sure,” I shrug my shoulders. “You know her, she's a guy magnet.” I said, smiling.

“Anyway! I need to go now! You're such a killjoy! Loosen up, Hannah!”

“Yeah, whatever.” I rolled my eyes then ushered her to join the fun in the camping ground.

For the record, I am not risking my reputation for him. I won't confess to Hinata Shoyo.

What's so funny? I keep asking this question to myself. Rei was laughing for as long as I can remember. And why is she interrogating me while I'm working? For every correct answer, a scoop of affogato will be served. That's our game arrangement. Yes. Interrogating me is just a game for her.

“You are aware you have a gene called PDSS2, right?” Woah. What was that? My vision suddenly became blurry for seconds right after she asked that question.

I press a finger on my temple and regulate my breathing. This symptom!

“I am, Rei. I could get intoxicated by caffeine and behave like a drunkard.” But that doesn't mean I am unaware of my actions.

“Want me to walk you in our tent?” Rei sounds different. Wait! Why is she treating and talking me like a weak kid?! No. No way! I feel like I'm floating! And my heart suddenly change its' rhythm. Another symptoms of caffeine intoxication!

“You tricked me!” I accused her and she just laugh again. “Kill me, Rei or else I will keep talking like an idiot and I won't stop until the caffeine in my system completely metabolized.”

“I did not tricked you, Hannah. You did this to yourself. That's what you get from being a coffee maniac.”

“I hate you, Rei.” I sighed then shutdown the laptop. “But I hate myself, too.”

“Hydrate yourself to reduce the caffeine effect.” Rei hand me a bottle of water and help me drink it, “how high?” she queried.

“So high that I feel like jumping from here and crash myself to the grassy ground.” I replied.

Rei taps the table. She's instructing me to lay my head there. I obeyed her.

“Do you still love him, right?” She asks, mirroring my condition and position. Now, we are both laying our head atop the table as we face each other.

“You know I didn't stop, Rei.”

“Then take a risk. What's stopping you from expressing your love for him?” she asks, putting her phone between our face.

“The reality, Rei! He's out of my league. So please stop forcing me to spill the beans for him.”

“Do you fear the possibilities of him rejecting you?”

“I fear everything about him. Shoyo Hinata is the perfect definition of fear for me. He made me feared love. He made me feared living this lifetime without him. You know what, Rei? Not all untold love stories deserves a chance. Not because they are unworthy of time and space. But because some of them are meant to be hidden. That's where my love for him resides. Inside a chest of secrets.”

This is what I hate the most after consuming high dose of caffeine in a day. I spoke things I shouldn't. And I cried in a place where I mustn't. Instead of drowning myself with unnecessary thoughts, I let my friends drag me inside the circle of people partying around the bonfire. I don't remember starting but I found myself dancing along the waves of people, along the hyper beat of the song playing in the background. I dance until my legs break. Until my throat hurts from laughing and playing along with my friends and former classmates.

Shoyo's there but made no move to approach me. I just caught him looking at me from time to time and every time our eyes met, he would give me a timid smile and a nod. If only you knew, Shoyo, I want more from you.

“Going somewhere?” I was surprised when a former Nekoma alumni went to me and start talking to me.

“Yes. Back in our tent. To sleep.” I believe his name is Kuroo Tetsurou. I stand on my feet and step backwards. I feel so dizzy.

“Mind if I come?” Did I heard him right?

“Uh, why?” I shook my head harshly. The caffeine is kicking me good in the head.

“You’re supposed to say, 'yes' babes. I’m clearly trying to get under your pants.” Woah. He's so straight forward!

“Well, uh... you are targeting a dull one, Mr. Kuroo. I'm afraid I am incapable of satisfying your needs tonight.” I smiled at him then waved goodbye.

Okay. I don't do one night stand.

I was humming my favorite song along the way when a hand grab my arm then I found myself spinning before landing on a broad and hard shoulder of a man with a very familiar hair color.

“Argh. Put me down, please. I feel so dizzy.” I am not a sack of rice so why are you carrying me like this...... Shoyo Hinata.

“I’m glad you declined, Kuroo's offer.” there's a hint of amusement in his tone while he keep moving forward.

“Are you really talking to me now, Shoyo?”

“Yeah...”

“Can you put me down? Everything is spinning. I feel so lightheaded. I might speak nonsensical things.”

He's deaf. It's confirmed. He really didn't bother putting me back on my feet.

“I think I've heard enough from you, Hannah.” Shoyo says, stopping on his tracks. He put me down but hold my forearm tightly as if I have plan of running away from him. I shook my head again. Trying to clear out the dizziness and drowsiness. “Get inside.” He pushed me down on the soft futon inside his tent and hovers above me.

His proximity is causing my heart to flutter.

“What do you mean you have heard enough from me?” I questioned. Slowly closing my eyes.

“I heard your conversations with Rei.”

“How? You weren't there.”

“She put you on the line during your talk. I heard everything.”

“Ah, that's why she put her phone between our face. That witch!”

I heard him giggle after my outburst. Then I felt his hand on my face. His fingers tracing my lips. His warm breath fanning all over my face.

“May I taste your lips?” His question send electricity throughout my body. I didn't respond. How to? In my current state, responding accordingly is not possible.

My eyes are closed and my mind is in haywire!

“My lips tastes like coffee. I had three servings of americano and four scoops of affogato.” Bravo, Hannah. I deserve a reward for my smart answer.

“I would perceive that as ‘yes’ then,” he whispered.

Don't judge me. I'm on my right mind. And I am aware of his actions. I just don't feel like stopping him when he started claiming my lips.

I dreamt of this moment once.

Would it be too much if I let my guard down tonight?

Just this once, I would like to have a taste of heaven.

“Will you go on a date with me tomorrow?” Shoyo asks, his lips trailing soft kisses along my jawline.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Marry me instead.”

“That's what you want?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. Then I'll taste your other parts as well.”

“Be gentle.”

“I can't. You know I can't.”

Dear Lord, give me strength to withstand the storm he would bring tonight.

Were I to have an insane and unrealistic amount of power over at Marvel I’d re-organize the Spider-Man relevant trades. I share the belief that the hurdle to new readers isn’t so much that there is a long history so much as a history spread all over the place. Wanting to read Spider-Man isn’t simple even if you do have the time and patience to read 50 years worth of comics. You need to know WHICH comics and WHAT ORDER to read them in. And the latter has a multiple choice answer!

This is part of why USM was so strong in it’s early days. 1 title, no satellites, no spin-offs. All you needed to do was pick up issue #1 or trade volume 1 and read sequentially from there. Not just easy to follow but easy to catch up and thus allow readership to grow.

Thus I propose that we simply organize the Spider-Man brand into a series of sequential trades. Functionally these will be like the Deadpool Classic trades, but with multiple trades following the various characters of the Spider-Verse. Want to read just about Peter Parker, you pick up his trades. But want to read just about Miles or Venom? The trades will have you covered going across their respective histories in the in-universe reading order.

In other words you need not worry about whether story arc A in ASM happens before story arc B in Spec and where Guest appearance C fits in. The trades would sort it all out for you. You’d just pick up any volume and read cover to cover, with tiny subplot pages and text inserted where relevant to clarify things. E.g. if there were 2 three part stories happening at the same time, you don’t want to interrupt that, so you’d just print one then have some text saying ‘the following three issues take place during the events of the ASM #X-Z’.

Additionally, in order to not make things unnecessarily confusing I’d omit retroactive stories like Untold Tales of Spider-Man, Symbiote Spider-Man, etc from these trades. My rationale is that not only would these spoil certain things but more significantly as time goes by people will inevitably write more retroactive stories meaning the trades would need to be constantly amended.

Instead I’d simply make a ‘Companion’ trade series reprinting such stories in publication order with a few notes explaining where they take place relative to the original issues. E.g. you’d pick up ‘Peter Parker: Spider-Man Classic Companion Volume 1’ and before you read Untold Tales of Spider-Man #1 a note would inform you it happens after ASM #3 or whatever.

So what would these trade series be exactly?

Something like this:

1. Peter Parker: Spider-Man Classic: Simply every Peter Parker appearance or relevant comic book. ASM, Spec, New Avengers, Secret Wars, guest appearances, everything!

2. Mary Jane Classic: Same thing for Mary Jane, albeit to save some time we could simply reprint the MJ relevant pages from various comics as there would be little need to reprint a whole Spidey adventure she just cameos in. The info text could simply give you context for each appearance before we got to meatier stories. I’d employ this method for all of the following whenever relevant.

3. Black Cat Classic: Obviously this would include her solo minis but also and team appearances like in Heroes for Hire.

4. Daily Bugle Classic: It occurred to me there were several stories focussing upon a lot of the supporting cast that didn’t feature Spider-Man himself. That aside people love the supporting cast so I figured some trades chronicling their exploits would make sense. For this trade series it’d focus upon J. Jonah Jameson first and foremost but also Betty Brant, Joe Robertson, Ben Urich, etc

5. The Many Loves of Spider-Man Classic: Same idea but with the Spidey girlfriends who don’t have that many appearances to their name. The main focus would be Gwen Stacy because for good or ill she’s a character who people are interested in. But you could also throw in appearances from Deb Whitman, Carlie, etc.

6. Spider-Man’s Tangled Web: TBH I couldn’t figure out a good name for this one, but essentially this would be about Peter’s friends who aren’t superheroes, Bugle employees or girlfriends of his. This would include Flash Thompson (pre-Venom), Liz Allan, Randy Robertson, possibly Glory Grant although she’d also fit in with the Bugle trades I guess. Throw in the Tangled web issues and your good to go!

7. Clone Classic: As you might expect this would chronicles Ben Reilly and Kaine’s exploits, but also for good measure ALL the clearly clone related stories. So we’re talking appearances involving Miles Warren and Gwen’s clone too. Although I guess the latter could fit in ‘the Many Loves of Spider-Man’ trades.

8. Spider-Man’s Amazing Friends Classic: All of the superhero friends Spider-Man has who are closely associated with him and have had off and on titles over the years. Prowler, Silver Sable, Rocket Racer, Sandman (when he reformed), Jackpot, Alpha, Will O’ Wisp, etc

9. Goblins Classic: I thought of doing a trade purely about the Osborns but this seemed more logical. It’d cover every appearance of the Goblin related characters. We’re talking Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn, Bart Hamilton, Roderick Kingsley, Ned Leeds, Jason Macendale, Phil Urich, Green Goblin V, Hobgoblin from Bendis’ Secret War, Gabriel+Sarah Stacy, Lily Hollister and whoever else will become a Goblin

10. Doctor Octopus Classic: Speaks for itself, and yeah it’d include his clones from Superior onwards too.

11. Symbiotes Classic: I thought of having this be about all the symbiotes OTHER than Venom and Carnage but having 3 sets of trades for symbiotes seemed ridiculous. This would cover every symbiote (Venom, Carnage, Hybrid, Scream, Toxin, Mania, Sleeper, etc) along with major hosts of theirs. Eddie Brock, Cletus Kasady, Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson, Andi Benton, etc

12. Sinister Six Classic. Maybe you couldn’t call these guys A-listers strictly speaking but these would be the real famous Spider-Man villains who haen’t already been mentioned. We’re talking the Vultures, Electros, Kravens, Mysterios, Chameleon, all the really classic costumed Spidey bad guys you could think of with the exception of some of the folks I’m gonna name below

13. The Many Foes of Spider-Man Classic: This would chiefly chronicle the stories about the characters from Deadly/Lethal/Superior Foes of Spider-Man, most importantly Boomerang, Beetle and Shocker

14. Spider Women Classic: All the 616 centric Spider Ladies. Jessica Drew, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, Cindy Moon, Anya Corazon, maybe even throw Madame Web in there for good measure. I think it makes sense to consolidate them together into a trade series as their publication histories meant they were usually passing the baton onto one another.

15. Miles Morales: Spider-Man Classic: Guess who this is about. Obviously this would include his appearances in Champions, Avengers, etc

16. Gwen Stacy: Ghost Spider Classic: Every Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider/Earh-65 Gwen appearanceD

17. Spider-Ham Classic: You get the picture. Although I’d also add in versions of Spider-Ham that are from different Earths as well

18. Spider-Man 2099 Classic: We’re actually already doing these in real life, but I’d want them to include every version of Miguel too and brief appearances across other titles

19. Ultimate Spider-Man Classic: Obviously the same deal for Ultimate Peter Parker, but I’d also include Ultimate Jessica Drew as well

20. Web of Spider-Verse: A trade series that reprints in publication order every other AU Spider-People out there. All the What Ifs, the Earth X stuff, House of M, X-Men: Forever, 1602, Noir, India, Peni Parker, Fairy Tales and of course Web Warriors

21. Spider-Girl Classic: We’re already doing this one too. Just wish it’d come out faster!

22. Spider-Man: Japan Classic: ALL the Japanese Spider-Man stories. Every appearance of Supaidaman from Spider-Verse and beyond. Every appearance of Spider-Man J, Mangaverse Spider-Man, Spidey Fake Red and most controversially Spider-Man: The Manga (deffo gonna have to put a mature readers disclaimer on those ones.

Birthday, some Notes and Trivia!

As of today, Watchdog of the Queen is three years old. Three. Years. I have never written a fanfic for such a long time without dropping it before. The longest I’ve lasted before was a year and a half. Seriously, what am I still doing here?

I cannot believe that I’m still here - and that you are still here as well!

I’m an incredibly anxious person, and when I uploaded the first chapter three years ago, I was absolutely certain that nobody would read something with one and a half (?) canon characters in it (and another historical public domain character; excluding Vincent, Francis, and Tanaka who only appear in side stories). Because I’ve tried that before a few times, and it never worked out.

Now, years later, people are still reading it; I am still writing it. And some of the ones who read/follow this story are even people I am a fan of. Like, how did this even happen?

Thank you for not giving up on this, for still reading this silly fanfiction despite its terrible upload schedule, its incredibly slow progress, and, at best, mediocre writing. Thank you for all the reviews and comments, favourites and follows, likes and nice words you have left me over the years. Thank you for making this work out. Let’s see how long it will.^^

Anyway, I guess/hope, the intermission/bridge chapter will be up sometime in the next few days, but, for now, I thought it would be nice to share some random “fun” notes and trivia. If anyone’s even interested...

Story

Watchdog of the Queen is not only a Kuroshitsuji fanfiction. It’s also some sort of recycled version of an original story I’ve created a long time ago. I didn’t even realise it myself until halfway through WotQ’s second arc or so... It’s funny how eerily similar both stories are; mostly when it comes to characters. (To my relief, they are also, in a lot of ways, quite different too.)

The only reason why Chapter 8 is also set in August 1847 is that I wanted Cloudia and Cedric to participate in the Lammas Day (August 1) celebrations. In the end, I didn’t go through it, i.a., because I thought that the chapter was already long enough (hah).

In the flashback in Chapter 19, Barrington mentions Cloudia’s first Watchdog task: catching John Francis (one of the persons who tried to assassinate Queen Victoria). Originally, the second arc should go on for two more chapters after Cloudia’s decoration, and these chapters were supposed to be about this exact case/task. However, Chapter 14 wrapped up surprisingly nicely and the second arc was quite a mess, so I scrapped those planned two chapters. They would have also featured Wilbur Hopkin’s first appearance in the story. Let’s see when/if he will appear now…

(Chapter 20) Instead of Cloudia withdrawing, I originally wanted Oscar to burst into the room and destroy their little moment or whatever it was. But I thought that would be a bit too mean?

The Zucchini Bonus chapter originally consisted of three parts. Then, stuff happened and I was only able to finish the first part. The other two will follow eventually.

Also, I hope the Zucchini Bonus reads like something wrote by someone who was too long in the sun. Because that’s exactly how it was.

The Halloween comic bonus was supposed to be called “The Halloween Bonus, Not Scary at All,” but I ran out of space and arm capacity, so I had to cut it short.

The original title card for it was in colour, but it looked dreadful, so I redid it. (I think, then, the bonus was named “A Not Very Scary Halloween” or sth like that?)

There were supposed to be many more “The Lady, Childhood” segments, but they kind of sucked, so I scrapped them. Why did I even upload the first few.

Before I killed the Untold Stories, the list of stories for it was ridiculously long. They ranged from more substantial ones like Newman’s and Lisa’s backstories, how Cloudia met Kamden, and how she met Milton to silly ones like babysitting stories. Some things will be included/mentioned in the main story instead.

Before I rearranged the story, there was, i.a., a Derby Arc, and a full arc set around Christmas. Now, I’m only going to spam you with Christmas bonuses. (But not this year. ): )

So far, I’ve done only one “Fun with Holidays” bonus. Originally, a third party was supposed to come to Cloudia and Cedric, making the duo a trio; said third party would then try to “cheer up” their colleagues and friends by making them celebrate/participate in all sorts of odd holidays. Well, said character was supposed to be introduced in the scrapped Derby Arc; then, I couldn’t find a better arc for them to be introduced, so they were pushed away, and this whole insane/silly idea scrapped. (But there will be some more Fun with Holidays bonuses, and said character was not entirely cut and will briefly wave through the story in the definitely not foreseeable future.)

I absolutely hate Chapter 9, i.a., because I was still dead from Chapter 8 when I wrote it and decided to put Cloudia in a white dress and all because Sieglinde wore one in Chapter 108. (I totally forgot that she only wore one because she was a debutante and not because it’s a general custom when meeting the Queen or so, and whyy...)

Oh, and I once entered this goddamn chapter in a fanfiction writing contest for fun (you could only send in fanfics which had been uploaded in a specific time frame, and Chapter 9 was the only thing I wrote that fulfilled this criterion). Obviously, I didn’t win, but I got it (properly) beta-read! Of all chapters, it’s this one that got a beta-read. Why. Anyway, she pointed out a bunch of awful mistakes to me like the “pompadour” one. In German, you can call these little bag things Pompadour or Retikül. The “English” versions of these words, however, refer to two different things: a reticule is the little bag thing, a pompadour is a hairstyle. -.-

The second chapter in my list of “Chapters I hate” is the eleventh one.

Before the third Three Times Christmas chapter became “Cakes and Comfort” it was “Graves and Grief” and about Undertaker visiting Cloudia’s grave.

Names

If a character wasn’t given a name a) I thought sounded nice, b) a meaningful name, they, no matter how important or unimportant to the overall story, are often named after (or even based on) other fictional characters or, less often, after famous people. This got so out of hand that I think it would be easier and faster to list the characters who weren’t named after other characters/people.

Couples are often named after other fictional couples. (For example, Penelope and Simon Phantomhive were named after Penelope Lumley and Simon Harley-Dickinson from The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place by Maryrose Wood.)

Okay, now after having established this, I hope it’s crystal clear after whom Oscar was named.

When it comes to titles, I am often clueless about how I should “expand” them/what to add after the “of.” I usually just use a random name generator because of that. That’s, i.a., how the Viscount(ess) of Middalanoware got their name. (It’s such a weird word, who came up with it??)

Newman’s original first name was Albert because, for a moment, I honestly forgot about Prince Albert -.- And then, I forgot Prince Alfred, but who cares anyway

When writing Chapter 8, I also totally forgot that Margaret Thatcher was a thing. Cue a last-minute rename.

Characters

Some characters’ stories are (loosely) based on one or more fairy tales. Originally, there were more such characters, but they were either completely cut or their (back-)stories won’t be addressed anymore to make this evident. (I’m telling you “who’s who” after the fourth arc!)

One of the cut “fairy tale” characters was the Goose Girl that was supposed to come with Falada...

Oscar’s servants (Scott, Ishmael, and Daisy) were based around the proverbial principle “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” (You may have heard of the three monkeys of wisdom which embody this principle.)

Kamden’s existence is (somewhat) based on one of the passages from Lisa and Lottie (Das doppelte Lottchen - “Double Lottie”) by Erich Kästner. (I was 8/9 years old when I read this novel so I wouldn’t swear on anything that my recollection of this passage is 100% accurate.) Anyway, the passage I’m referring to is when the girls arrive in their summer camp, and the camp staff is baffled how similar they look even though, to their knowledge and to the girls’, they are not related. One of the staff members then suggests that they may be astrological twins – born on the same day, at the same time, and looking the same even if they are not related. I actually wanted to address this in-story, but I couldn’t find proper (additional) sources about astrological twins to back up anything, so I dropped it. (But, then again, there’s this whole thing about doppelgangers and Identical Strangers...)

At some point, Oscar was supposed to miss fingers, be 70 (!) years old, and a former Police Commissioner of Scotland Yard.

Also, at some point, Lisa was a pianist??? I think I’ve pretty much dropped this right after deciding on it.

Funnily enough, none of Cloudia’s original Aristocrats of Evil were born into noble families/are (really) aristocrats by blood.

In one of the scrapped “The Lady, Childhood” segments, Dr Alan (who was only ever mentioned) was supposed to be introduced. Well, as the segment was scrapped, I never got around to properly explain who he is. In short, Dr Alan’s doctor’s office is right next to the Sainteclare Bookstore. When Kamden’s adoptive parents (with whom he was friends) got ill, he treated them, but they still died. Dr Alan feels quite guilty about it and looked after Kamden ever since. (He made sure that he could keep the bookstore before Cloudia found Kamden and Barrington became his guardian. Of course, Dr Alan still looks after Kamden; Kamden basically has two dads.) Dr Alan will eventually appear, but it’s not like he’s very important anyway.

The same thing happened to Blodwen: She’s Kamden’s grandmother who lives in Wales.

Oscar actually likes Cloudia for three reasons: 1) He genuinely enjoys her company. 2) He needs her for something. The third one is a secret^^ (It’s also a reason why Oscar dislikes Cedric.)

Misc.

Cedric is Cloudia’s fourth Aristocrat of Evil because Four = Death.

The concept of the skull pendant necklace comes from one of the first FFs I’ve ever read. In it, however, it was a skeleton hand pendant necklace and it could only be used to call someone (without talking to them). Unfortunately, the FF was taken down years ago…

The skull necklace and some other objects/artefacts that have already appeared or will appear were based on things from fairy tales, from myths, or some other concepts. (They will come up later!)

The basis for Cloudia’s office in the illustrated Halloween Bonus was OC’s office in the Funtom Music Hall. (It’s, of course, a watered-down version.)

I don’t know if anyone paid attention to the tiny rabbit drawings in the illustrated Halloween Bonus and the Cake mini-comic, but I hope someone did.

(The Business Partners, Jolly) I tried my best to find it out, but I still don’t know if the altar stone thing in St Margaret’s Chapel is movable or not. :( (Are, in general, altars even movable? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

(The Siblings, Partners) Something else I couldn’t find was how deep Brent Reservoir’s deepest area really is. I think I only found the average depth of the reservoir and then, based on it, picked a random number/estimate for its deepest point.

The story about the four brothers who drowned in Brent Reservoir is actually a true story.

The thing those guys tried to steal in The Siblings, Partners already (sort of) appeared.

So far, four characters have been introduced by a name which is not their real one: For two, it’s fairly obvious. For the other two, it’s not that obvious. There is another character whose name is not quite spelled all the time how it should actually be spelled according to their birth certificate.

When I was 12 and picked up writing in earnest, I decided that I wanted to have something recurring in all my works. After thinking of it for a while, I eventually settled on this: the “fruit tea and penguin scale.” (it’s not strictly a scale, though.) It functions like this: the “heroes/heroic and, or mostly sane people, and so on” dislike fruit tea and like penguins, the “wannabe villains, idiots, annoying people, and so on” like fruit tea and dislike penguins. There are also a lot of “in-between” things: Cloudia and Cecelia dislike fruit tea and like penguins. Barrington and Cedric like both fruit tea and penguins. Oscar tolerates penguins and will ignore you if you ask him whether or not he thinks fruit tea is actually tea or whether or not he likes it.

My Lenore was written in case I am unable to complete Watchdog of the Queen. (I really wish I had written it better.)

I’m still waiting for someone to point out the Blatant Typo.
