#but it was exciting to see my hometown in the spider-man movie!!
Text
I fear that a large part of my personality may be based on performative outrage on topics I don't really care about. What's it called, virtue signaling? I see other people getting up in arms about something I didn't particularly enjoy, and for some reason I jump aboard the bandwagon and pile on the insults, "hey look at me, I hate this thing too! It's the worst!" No, it's not the worst. It means nothing to me. Why am I calling it the worst? Why am I expending effort to make fun of something that I honestly couldn't care less about?
Marvel movies, Star Wars movies, big budget franchise sequels, I don't care about them. I've stopped watching them, so why isn't that enough? I don't plan on watching Rings of Power, not because I hate amazon (which I do), not because it looks bad (I haven't seen any clips, I've only heard other people's opinions), not even because I want it to fail (it's success or failure is irrelevant), but because I'm not even a fan of Lord of the Rings! I've seen Fellowship twice in my life, Two Towers and Return of the King once, and the first Hobbit movie. The only books I've read was the Hobbit, and I didn't really like it. Why am I pretending to be a huge fan who is outraged? If it sucks, it doesn't concern me.
Star Wars. I'm a big fan of Episodes 4 and 5, and most of 6, and that's about it. I've seen episode 1 a few times, and didn't like it. I attended a sleepover where they had a movie marathon of all the prequels on in the background all evening, so I've seen parts of episodes 2 and 3, didn't much care for them. Never seen Clone Wars. But for years I pretended that I hated the prequels because that's what was popular to say. I don't hate them because I've never seen them. I like watching other people bash them online because they look ridiculous, but ultimately I don't care one way or the other. When episode 7 came out, I was HYPED AS FUCK, legitimately hyped, not a performance; I was excited to see my first Star Wars movie in theaters with friends who loved analyzing the originals just as much as I did. I bought and read the now non-canon Thrawn trilogy, bought and didn't read a bunch of the other legends books, and I REALLY enjoyed episode 7. It did exactly what it needed to do, and I left the theater with a smile on my face. I went into episode 8 with ao much enthusiasm, and I didn't like it at all. That was also legitimate. It's popular to bash episode 8, but my dislike didn't extend that far, I just thought it was a major dip in quality from 7. Rogue One, I was excited about the premise, didn't like the execution. Solo, didn't like it, thought it was more like walking through a Han Solo museum with a tour guide pointing out "remember when he said this line in episode 5? Here's where it came from? And that line in episode 4? That one's to your left." Episode 9 was the first one I actively hated, like passionately hated, real non-performative hatred. I love 2½, I'm indifferent about 5½, and I hate 1, so I have no real skin in this game. Star Wars excites me more as a concept than as a franchise. The idea of it excites me, but 9 times out of 10 I pass on the content. The Mandalorian and Boba Fett and Obi Wan and Andor just aren't my thing. I've never seen them, don't plan to, so what do I care if anyone else does?
Marvel movies. I have watched exactly 8 of the 29 movies that have been released as of my writing this. I loved the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy as a kid, but other superheroes didn't really do it for me; I'd never neard of Iron Man when I was 11, or Thor, though I did know about the Hulk, I still didn't care enough to ask my parents to take me to see it. The first MCU movie I saw was Avengers 1 when I was 15, because my older sister decided out of nowhere to invite me to the movies with her friends (she'd never done that before), and Hunger Games was no longer playing at out hometown theater. I LOVED Avengers 1. I thought it was hilarious! I thought it was a perfect movie, nowhere near as bloated as people said it would be online. Next one I saw in theaters was Avengers 2, didn't really care for it. I saw Captain America 2 on DVD at a friend's house, I actually really liked it. I saw Cap 3 because of Spider-Man, and I liked it too, and I got really excited for a standalone Spider-Man movie, so Homecoming was everything I was hoping for. Not as good as Sam Raimi, better than Amazing. Next I saw Black Panther with my mom because she REALLY wanted to see it; it wasn't bad, didn't really do anything for me, but whatever. This is when I got off the marvel wagon because Avengers 3 was way too bloated for my tastes; I didn't want to watch it until I caught up on everything I missed, so i never saw it. I saw Far From Home on a date, liked parts of it, didn't really like Peter becoming Iron Man Jr. No Way Home got my bloos flowing because they brought back all the old characters from Raimi and Amazing, but the story itself didn't do it for me, and Tom Holland Peter is way to annoying for my tastes, so I've sworn off any future disney marvel movies. I don't care about the franchise anymore. I don't enjoy it anymore. I have nothing to gain from watching them, and I can vicariously make fun of the ones that suck by watching youtube reviews. Sony's Spider-Verse was great, loved it, can't wait for the sequel. I hope they make a Raimi 4, and hell, I'd even be okay with an Amazing 3 (I never saw Amazing 2, but I like Andrew Garfield). It'll never happen, but I can dream.
DC movies. I saw the original Batmen; 89 was good, Returns scratched an itch I didn't know I had (though my family hates it), Forever is a legitimate guilty pleasure of mine, and &Robin is objectively terrible but fun to watch in a MST3K kinda way. Never saw Batman Begins. I saw the Dark Knight once when I was a kid, didn't care for it (though I'd probably like it more now). Never saw Dark Knight Rises, would probably enjoy it, it looks good. Never saw ANY Superman movies. I saw Dawn of Justice because it was supposed to be DC's answer to the Avengers, which I still liked at the time, but I actively hated it and wanted Superman to stay dead. Never saw Justice League. Suicide Squad was terrible, another instance of active hatred. And that's it! Never seen any of the others. No Wonder Women, no Snyder Cut, no THE Suicide Squad, no John Cena show, nothing! I just don't care! This franchise means nothing to me! I don't have the energy to make fun of it on purpose, it just exists entirely outside of my wheelhouse.
Avatar. I saw it in 2009. Everyone in America saw it. It broke box office records. Everyone in America forgot it. It never captured the cultural zeitgeist like other big bidget sci-fi films; until disney made the theme park, the fandom was so niche that it never cropped up in pop culture. Novody referenced it except to say it was the highest grossing movie ever and jokingly call it Dances With Blue Cats. I thought it was pretty and inoffensive, but not worth a 3 hour investment to ever watch it again. I own it on DVD, which I opened and started watching once, but never finished, and the only reason I still have it is because the producer Jon Landau has a vacation home down here and visited my freshman video productions class in 2010 or 2011, and I had him sign it.
Tumblr media
I don't actually care that they're making Avatar 2. I think it's a soulless cash grab, but so is every studio movie these days. It doesn't interest me, so I'm not gonna watch it. I don't hate it, it's just boring. I'm sure it'll look pretty, it'll make a ton of money and win a ton of awards, but I don't care enough to make fun of it just because the plot doesn't sound interesting to me.
Video games. I'm not a gamer! I've never owned a current gen console; my parents bought me a Gameboy Advance SP when I was a kid, and a DS Lite later, but the only actual console I ever owned was an N64 I bought on ebay in high school (I didn't even Buy It Now, I won it in an auction; I was super excited). I have Minecraft on my laptop, which I play once or twice a year for a week or two at a time before getting bored and stopping until a new update comes, and that's it! I don't care about console wars! I don't care about graphics! I don't care about triple-A developers making samey games, because I don't play any! First person shooters and open world sandbox survival craft-em-ups and liberating districts and this that or the other, I just don't care! I don't care if the games are good, I don't care if they're bad, I don't care if critics love them or hate them, I just like hearing Yahtzee Croshaw make fun of them on Zero Punctuation! I don't have a steam account, I've never played a valve game, but I enjoyed watching Portal 2 walkthroughs and reading the entire TF2 wiki lore (I love the comics; will never pick up the game), never played undertale, or papers please, or the last of us, or breath of the wild, of gtav, or anything. I watched roosterteeth/achievement hunter/letsplay on youtube from like 2011 to 2016 or 17, but I fell off that wagon due to lack of interest.
I am apathetic above anything else, and I need to stop acting like every new installment to such and such franchise I'm not involved with is important to me when it's not. I need to stop hopping on the bandwagon. I don't gain anything out of letting people know how much I love/hate a movie/game I've never watched/played. Maybe I get some notes on tumblr? Whoop dee doo. Number go up! Who cares? I don't.
I'm sorry for being a jerk. The media I do or do not consume should not influence my personality. It's dumb to act like it's important to me when it's not. If I really like something, I can be excited! When I really hate something, I can say so and move on. When I'm indifferent, I can just ignore it. Why do I let myself get up in arms like this?

For Immediate Release May 30, 2023
The Sachairi & Peaches Show Returns for Season 1B on June 6
Orlando, FL and Baltimore, MD - After a month-long break in May of 2023, The Sachairi & Peaches Show is ready to roll on with Season 1B, from June 6, 2023! The podcast, which launched on March 7 of this year, focuses primarily on the world of animation, with a brief look at the co-hosts' daily, neurodivergent lives, and whatever else they like to talk about, within and outside the animation industry. Co-Host, Producer and Creator, Adrian Mata, will return alongside Co-Host, Emma Settles—a recent Class of 2023 graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA—as they continue to deliver their analysis, reviews, reactions, and discussions about the latest, popular, and classic animated shows and movies.
"It's been quite a while, but I am excited to be back alongside my best friend, Emma, as we continue on with the podcast. We'll still be talking about what's going on in animation, as well as the shows and films we've watched—maybe it'll feel like we've never left at all! Nonetheless, I am ready to get this show off the ground once again, into the summer of 2023," said Adrian Mata, Co-Host, Producer and Creator of The Sachairi & Peaches Show.
"I was honestly excited before when the series started, but I am especially excited now. I genuinely feel that if season 1A was as good as it was, season 1B will be even better, especially considering all the planning we've done in advance," said Emma Settles, Co-Host of The Sachairi & Peaches Show.
With the podcast's return comes a few changes, which includes a new announcer in the form of Jared Harris, a broadcast engineer and voiceover artist currently based in Phoenix, AZ. A new look and sound for the podcast was previewed during the show's Highlights Edition, released earlier this May, and those changes will officially take effect at the start of the show's second half of the first season.
"I'm excited to step into my first professional voiceover role as announcer for The Sachairi & Peaches Show. Adrian and Emma have a fun discourse together, and as a fellow autistic and consumer of animation, I think it’ll be fun to lend my voice to their conversations," said Jared Harris, Announcer for The Sachairi & Peaches Show.
Season 1B will begin with "How to Make Something Great: Emma's Advice for Filmmaking" on June 6, as Emma, a UArts graduate, will give out their advice on crafting out films that can appeal to various audiences. For Something Completely Different, Adrian will pay tribute to a legendary television newsman in Emma's hometown of Baltimore, Al Sanders. Other episodes for the month of June will see Adrian and Emma discuss about Aggretsuko's final season; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, in anticipation of Across the Spider-Verse's release in theaters; and Dragon Rider, also known as Firedrake the Silver Dragon. The month of July will be themed as Retrospect Month as the two of them talk about cartoons of the 80s and 90s, and then the season concludes in August with a celebration of the Laika Studios stop-motion film, Kubo and the Two Strings, ahead of its seventh anniversary on August 19.
Those interested in The Sachairi & Peaches Show can listen to the podcast through various supported services such as Spotify, Pandora, Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, and Goodpods, among others, and can also follow the show on Instagram @ SachairiAndPeaches for highlights and other digital content. Adrian and Emma can also be followed on DeviantArt @ AdrianMata26 and @ LocalPeaches, respectively; and elsewhere, Adrian can be followed on Instagram @ adrianmata26 and @ sachlandhub, and on Tumblr @ adrianmata26. An official website, as well as additional social media platforms for the show, are forthcoming.

Yunho's Other Career
An ATEEZ fanfic by AbsentCaryatid
Part 2 in the ATEEZ Dreams Series
Yunho learns he will not be present for the next ATEEZ comeback, but the reason turns out to be a very positive one.
1.4K words, Content note: all ages, gender neutral reader, pregnancy reference unrelated to reader
~
The latest tour was over and all the members of ATEEZ had been given some time to relax before preparing for the next comeback. The break from the rigor of their athletic jobs had done them all good, but now their feet itched to dance again, and none more than lead dancer Yunho's. It was with great excitement that the eight men returned to KQ Entertainment for the meeting that would introduce them to the latest wardrobe plans, music video storyboards, and practice schedule.
Looking a little nervous, one of the managers pulled Yunho aside before entering the conference room. “Before going in, I need you to know you are not going to be part of this comeback.” At the questioning look from eyes beginning to tear up, the manager quickly provided reassurance. “I promise, the reason is a good one. You'll see.” With a hand to Yunho's back, they entered the room together.
What the frosted glass of the room had obscured from the outside was a large banner reading, “Congratulations, Yunho!” Spider-Man party supplies usually sold for children's birthdays set the theme for the celebration that included a web covered cake design.
“But it is not my birthday yet. What is all this? And the manager told me I'm not in this comeback. What is going on?”
Hongjoong was the one to break the life-altering news. “Your voice will still be on the tracks, but your body is needed elsewhere. Seonghwa put a good word in for you after he was in that Star Wars show. A new Spider-Man film is being made, and with some help from the rest of us you have already been picked as the next Peter Parker, Yunho.”
A hand went straight to his mouth in shock and Yunho had to sit down to keep from fainting at the very welcome announcement. “This is really real? No pranking? My heart could not take it if this is just a joke.”
Mingi approached with a hug. “You earned this, Yunho. You'll be great and I can't wait to see your movie.”
“Even you knew and kept it a secret, Mingi?” Wiping tears of joy from his face, Yunho found it difficult to believe every member of ATEEZ had heard about this before he did, yet kept it all so quiet.
“I was the last to know. It was only this morning I was told about it from Yeosang since this is too good a secret to keep to myself for long. Withholding it from me was the right call.” Mingi's laugh at his own excitability was contagious within the group.
Pros at keeping upcoming content under wraps, the rest of the team apparently was in on the plan and had been working to make this dream a reality. It was now beginning to make sense to Yunho why San had been playfully acting out superhero movie scenes with him 'just for fun.' Wooyoung would always film it as possible V Log or Our Side of the Story content, but it had never made it to ATEEZ media channels yet and now he knew why.
With an arm around his friend's waist, Wooyoung admitted they had been making Yunho's demo reel. “The director already had you in mind as his first choice for a fresh young face for the franchise. We just had to send in a little material to confirm your acting ability beyond what was seen in Imitation.”
Shaking his head, Yunho realized so many other things he had filmed before the tour probably had been more ways to prove his suitability for the role. Their latest reality series had included some green screen wire work and a day of fun with a stunt trainer who taught them a bit about her job. Jongho had also been showing him some flexibility exercises to add to his routine when they were in the gym together.
Yunho's worries about his growing but not yet solid English proficiency were quickly put to rest. The all-Korean production was to be filmed in his hometown of Gwangju with the possibility of staying with his parents during the production. Adding to the excitement, the movie would be directed by Yeon Sang-ho of Train to Busan fame, so would be a tense thriller guaranteed to please. And fortunately, Yunho was not to be completely cut off from his members during filming. There were cameos planned in a crowd scene and ATEEZ was also to provide a song for the soundtrack's end credits, Yunho included.
The only thing he had to worry about now was if this story would have a Mary Jane. Fans had been thrilled when Yunho had landed the role as Yu Jin in Imitation but had been denied the character's pregnancy side plot from the webtoon. This time he hoped to be able to give fans both action and romance if that was in store for the latest Spider-Man.
If there was to be a love interest, Yunho knew there was no chance he would fall for his co-star, whoever they might be, because he was already securely partnered. As always, the big goofy grin of a man in love took over his features at the thought of you. This led to realizing you had yet to hear his news so he excused himself from the party to place a video call.
Luckily it was your day off so could answer the moment your phone played his song- 'Time of Love.' “This is early for a call, Yunho. What's up?” It was at this point you noticed a Spider-Man face mask pushed up into his hair. The life of an idol often meant strange things during filming so this was not out of the ordinary, but his animated breathing clued you in to something more so you asked, “Are you okay?”
His voice wavered as tears came to his eyes, but you quickly were reassured it was for a great reason. “The guys told me I have been cast as the newest Peter Parker for an upcoming Spider-Man movie!”
“My love, that's fantastic! I'll miss you while filming, but then I'm used to that while you tour. This opportunity is, well, amazing!” It was true time apart was hard on both of you, but your joy at his lifelong dream coming true was sincere. You had been Yunho's biggest supporter ever since meeting at the comic shop where you worked and easily falling into conversation about your mutual favorite franchise.
Yunho had enjoyed the relatively normal discussion once he realized you seemed unaware he was an idol. After the second superhero movie date at his place he had come to the conclusion he was serious about you and needed to elaborate on why he lived with so many guys. Taking the unexpected news relatively well that a normal dating life was out of the question, you decided Yunho was very much worth fewer public activities together and more cozy times at your home or his. Years together at this point had confirmed your choice was the right one and you were both very much in love and planning on a long future together.
Despite his fame, Yunho made sure the relationship was one built on equality. Not wanting to lose the most important person in his life, Yunho wanted to be sure you were okay with him taking the role if it required romancing another person on screen. “Take some time to think about it. I won't sacrifice us as a couple to make this happen.”
His concern went straight to your heart and you were glad you could unreservedly give him the answer he wanted to hear. “Yunho, I am completely comfortable with you doing your job as an actor, whatever that might entail. I have unshakable trust in your love for me and know you would not do anything to harm our relationship. Given the fact that our romance has been kept quiet, the only thing I ask is that you not fake date any co-star for publicity.”
Yunho blanched at the idea. “I could never,” he stated firmly. “You have my word.”
“Good. Still, you have made things difficult for me.” The sigh that followed the admission was lightened by a smile. “Now I have to sit on this casting news until the official announcement is made. My boyfriend is Spider-Man and I have to keep it a secret, just like in the comic books.”

Whether you're a major Marvel Cinematic Universe fan, you follow a specific character, making it to every other installment in which they appear, or you’re just there for that good old fashioned superhero feel, you’ve got to admit, Phase 4, the most recent era of Marvel entertainment (beginning with WandaVision in January of this year) is shaping up to be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. A whole new generation of superheroes are lining up to steal the hearts of thousands of fans.
So, do you want a few spoilers? Do you want to get to know some of America’s future favorites before your friends have even heard their names? Well, I’m glad you said yes, because I'm here for you!
Most of (if not all) of the Marvel movies are (guess what?) based off of comics released by the very same Marvel years before. That’s no surprise I’m sure, but the really cool thing about this is that you can get to know, and continue to enjoy, your on-screen favorite characters between films.
So you’re wondering where to start? Believe me, it can be super confusing when you can search Amazon for comics featuring a certain character and come up with thirty different options. And that’s where I come in. I’m a Big Marvel comics fan and I’m writing today to introduce you to some upcoming female Marvel heroes I’m really excited about. I’ll give you my opinion of how to best meet them. And save you from a lot of Amazon scrolling :) Let's get started...
Tumblr media
Kate Bishop A.K.A Hawkeye (Making her debut in the Hawkeye TV series beginning on Nov. 24th.)
Who is She?: Why, she’s Hawkeye! What, you thought Hawkeye was some guy named Clint Barton? Well, think again. There’s two of them! Kate Bishop wasn’t always Hawkeye. She was born the daughter of rich parents and it wasn’t til she was a teenager, and her life took some pretty hard twists, that she started training in self defence (and eventually) archery (all the skills a normal human with a sharp mind needs to make it in the superhero world. Come on, you’ve seen Avengers, you saw how it worked for the other Hawkeye, and Blackwidow). When a young team of superheroes, The Young Avengers, crashed her sister’s wedding in an attempt to save everyone from a group of armed men (who’d actually crashed the wedding first), Kate finally found a team who understood and supported her. And, eventually, (after a lot of wild adventures), they'd become her chosen family. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves! What you've got to remember is this girl is totally Hawkeye. The better one.
Who Plays Her?: Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit (2010) as Mattie Ross, Bumblebee (2018) as Charlie Watson, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) as Gwen Stacy’s (or Spider-Gwen’s) voice. The set photos they’ve released so far look very promising… She fits Kate’s character pretty darn well!
Where to Get Started: I’d recommend starting with Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie’s run of Young Avengers. A fan favorite, this series is where I first encountered Kate and it might be worth getting to know all her friends and teammates… we're gonna see them on the big screen soon! Find it on Amazon.
Fun Fact: Kate and Clint share a pet dog named Lucky or Pizza Dog. Though he doesn’t have the best eyesight (he’s missing his left eye), Kate couldn’t ask for a better super-animal companion.
Tumblr media
Kamala Khan A.K.A Ms. Marvel (Debuting in the Ms. Marvel TV show which is scheduled to be released at some point late this year. Maybe December.)
Who is She?: Kamala Khan was just your ordinary Jersey City teenager until her Inhuman (ancient alien) genetics activated. Suddenly, with her newly unleashed polymorph powers, Kamala found herself fighting for justice under the name Ms. Marvel (in honor of her personal hero, Captain Marvel). But what Kamala found, as she faced off against a wide array of super villains as Jersey City’s hometown hero, is to really be a hero, you can’t just do it with a mask, you’ve got to be there for your friends and family no matter what life throws at you. Introduced in 2014, Ms. Marvel is Marvel’s first Pakistani American teen hero. And since then she’s paved the way for a whole new age of what it means to be “super”. When it comes to being grounded and having her community’s back, there aren’t many who can top Kamala. It’s about time she made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut!
Who Plays Her?: Iman Vellani will be playing Kamala in all her upcoming Marvel appearances. This is Iman’s first film appearance, and it’s so exciting to see a young woman of Pakistani heritage (finally) taking her place alongside Marvel’s panoply of actors.
Where to Get Started: I’d get started with the classic G. Willow Wilson run. There, you can’t go wrong. Not only is it the series Kamala first appeared in, it’s one of the most iconic Marvel comics of the last decade. Find it on Amazon.
Fun Fact: Kamala loves writing fanfic (specifically about her hero Captain Marvel), and writes online under the pen name SlothBaby. This girl’s got ALL the skills!
Kamala is also scheduled to co-star in The Marvels film coming out November of next year!
Tumblr media
America Chavez A.K.A Ms. America (Scheduled to Debut and co-star in the upcoming film Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness coming out in theaters on March 25th of next year.)
Who is She?: America Chavez was born the daughter of two loving mothers in Utopia, an all-female reality parallel to the standard Marvel reality, 616 (where all our classic heroes, minus Miles, are from). America had an amazing childhood, filled with love (and a pretty tough abuela), but it was too good to last. As a young girl, America absorbed the Demiurge (a sentient life force that created planets and gods). This gave America the power to literally punch her way to different realities. Pretty sweet, huh? Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to stop what happened next. When America was only six years old, black holes threatened to engulf the entire Utopia. However, she came from a family of heroic women, and her mothers sacrificed themselves to heal their home. They're still out there, smeared across the universe for eternity. But this left America with a lack of mothers, and a serious urge to live up to their example. America always knew she would be a hero. With her ability to cross realities, she joined and fought with many different superhero teams. Some connections lasted, some didn’t, but she always knows she can believe in justice... and herself. After all, her mothers showed her how.
Who Plays Her?: Xochitl Gomez who appeared as Dawn Schafer in The Baby-Sitters Club series on Netflix. Xochitl grew up in Los Angeles and is of Mexican descent. I can’t wait to see this talented young woman take on America’s mantle!
Where to Get Started: This may sound repetitive, but my favorite America Chavez comic is definitely Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie’s run of Young Avengers. I mean, it’s not every day America can punch her way through ALL her problems, but in Young Avengers, it’s practically necessary. Besides, this way you can get to know America and Kate at the same time! Find it on Amazon.
Fun Fact: America’s birthday is on the Fourth of July. How appropriate is that for a patriotic-themed superhero?
I hope that this is a helpful guide and exciting introduction to these amazing young female heros and I sincerely hope that after you read this piece, you, like me, will be waiting in anticipation for their on-screen debuts! Check back in in a few months for round two, Marvel’s really outdoing themselves when it comes to bringing us more awesome female power!
Got any questions about this post? Fire them at me, I’ll do my best to answer.
Make mine Marvel!

jar of stars - peter parker (p. i)
Setting: After homecoming, but during the sophomore year of high school Gender: Neutral Contains: Kinda fluff, mentions of a parent passing away, cursing Word Count: 2.6k
Summary: (Y/n) has a thing for paper stars. They also have a thing for Peter Parker but then an itsy bitsy spider comes ‘round and practically plays matchmaker.
a/n: Just a random idea. Also kinda has a lot of those cliches but we love the cliches lbr. Also, I highkey suck at writing romance but I’m getting back into the hang of it. If you’re more of a platonic type person, you can expect LOTS of platonic readers in the future c:
Finally finished this series after 3 months (even though it’s only 3 parts) I just didn’t want to post anything until the series was done. c:
[repost from old account]
Let me know if there are any grammar or spelling mistakes or if I accidentally say ‘she/he’ instead of the gender neutral ‘they’.

❝ if the stars fell out of the sky one day they’ll only make more hoping that they’ll appear once again ❞
Tumblr media
Your fingers danced around each other as the strip of paper you held started to fold into the shape of a pentagon. Your ears drowned out the voice of your physics teacher as you focused on puffing the pentagon into a star. It was one of the simpler origamis and barely required work. Though your nails would occasionally hurt from puffing it, or the sides of your fingers would start to get a bit dry but nothing that lotion couldn’t fix.
You dropped the finished star into a box that practically had thousands (that’s an exaggeration but it’s a lot) of other stars; shades of blue, purple, red, green, and patterned ones. There were an array of stars held in that seemingly small box that’d you’d only have to sort by color and shade into the countless jars you had at home.
You glanced up at the board seeing new notes to be taken down and you picked up a pencil to quickly jot it down. Little did you know, a few seats behind you Peter Parker was watching you as your fingers carefully reached for another strip of paper and began to nimbly move to create another star. He was wiggling his pencil back and forth between his fingers, a habit created out of boredom, wondering why did you pick up this time of the school year to make stars.
But then you were jolted out of your focus when your teacher promptly called you by your last name. All eyes were on you.
“You want to pass the AP exam, right?” Mrs. Warren asked you, clasping her hands together.
You smiled sheepishly and nodded. “Yeah, I do.”
“Then either you figure out a way to focus while making those stars of yours-” cue Flash snickering (and Peter glaring at Flash) “-or you put them away and focus on my lecture.”
With an apology, you quickly shoved the stars and strips of paper into a box and then your backpack. Your eyes rested on the teacher in front of you for the rest of the class period.
You sat out on the stairs fire escape. It was one of the chillier nights but you had your Midtown sweatshirt on with one of your pajama bottoms. The evening sky had hues of yellow that turned into orange into pink and then purple which all began to morph into the dark night sky. Of course, the New York skyline that decorated the sky made it seem like it was out of the movies. And with how the wispy clouds were sprinkled here and there, it was a sight to behold. But even so, it won’t be soon until the night sky would appear, vacant of stars.
Peter sat perched on one of the buildings of Queens, his legs swinging about as he people-watched. It was one of the quieter nights. Not much crime was being done, thankfully, and he finished his homework so he was just out relaxing a bit. He enjoyed watching the sunset alongside the people below him, even if it was a way to push down the stress of AP exams.
It didn’t take him long when he noticed a certain somebody sitting in their fire escape. He always saw you there and always wanted to say something as Spider-Man but never had the courage.
“You should talk to them,” Karen suggested in his mask. His eyes widened.
“What?” He stammered. “No! No way, I can’t do that to my friend. My voice is pretty distinct, I’d-I’d have to cover it up if I wanted to or..” He began to ramble with all the reasons why he couldn’t talk to you.
“I can disguise your voice, Peter,” Karen cut him off. “You should know that, are you sure you don’t need to go through go through the refresh-”
“No! No I’m good. But,” Peter trailed off, looking at you from the distance. He was still able to see that you were putting stars in a jar. He never knew what they were for. “Yeah, can you disguise my voice?” And in an instant he began to swing over towards you. He was surprised that you didn’t see him but then again, you were always so focused on your stars. So when he landed above you, quietly of course, and greeted you he didn’t expect you to be calm.
“Holy shit!” Your hands fumbled around with the star you held but you dropped it, only for it to fall down into the streets. Your eyes widened at the sight in front of you, adrenaline slightly pumping through your veins in a fight-or-flight sense.
“Oh,” Peter chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck, “sorry about that. I didn’t mean to scare you.” His voice was slightly altered by a sound in his mask. Probably to disguise his voice.
“It’s fine,” you breathed out, looking down at the fallen star in the streets. “I just didn’t expect the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to come out of nowhere.” You laughed a bit before reaching into one of the boxes you had, grabbing a handful of dark purple stars. The panic you felt seconds earlier had quickly dissipated.
“Well, I saw you out here,” Peter sat down next to you and grunted a bit as he adjusted, “and I wanted to, you know, say hi.” You nodded your head.
“Yeah but, don’t you have-uh-I don’t know, hero business?” You poured the stars into a mason jar that was already filled with the colors of the evening sky.
“Eh, it’s a quiet night. Plus I’ll be notified if something goes down,” Peter replied. You nodded in response.
“And your voice?” You asked, looking into the eyes of his mask. Which only caused Peter to slightly blushed as the light from the sunset reflected in your (e/c) eyes. Thank God for his mask.
Peter tilted his head in confusion.
“I mean, it’s obviously slightly… different.”
“Oh!” Peter exclaimed. “Well, just in case I see you in the street as my civilian-self. You know, secret identity and all.”
“That’s pretty cool, smart actually.” You nodded your head with a slight smile, impressed at him. He then asked for your name and you gave it to him with a grin. The two of you guys began to talk for awhile, even after the sun set and the night sky had few scattered stars. Exchanging stories, laughs, anything you guys could think of. Of course, Peter was careful about what he told you to not give away his identity.
“You know, you remind me of my friend,” You mentioned after you finished laughing at one of his stories.
Peter quirked his eyebrow, and hoped to God that he didn’t give his identity away. “Oh? How?”
“I mean,” you held up a finger, starting to count, “you both like Star-Wars, you’re both extremely awkward at times, and have a thing for Tony Stark.” Peter’s heart began to beat faster. “I think you’d get along with them well; Ned and Peter.” You continued folding a few more stars as you talked.
“That’d be cool, you should introduce me to them,” Peter said out of slight relief. You hadn’t brought up anything that hinted you knew. But the frown that was etched on your face caused him to be slightly concerned.
“Yeah, well I wish,” You said, downstrucken. “Peter’s always off doing something for his Stark internship, I barely see him as much anymore. Just at school and our very occasional hang outs with Ned and MJ.” To see your downcasted face, it broke Peter’s heart. But then you laughed. “Though, Ned would freak out if he met you, so I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Huh, maybe not then,” Peter laughed. The two of you sat in silence for a while, just watching the cars in the distance. Well, you were focused on filling up the mason jar in front of you.
You were surprised at how well you were holding a conversation with the Spider-Man. But it seemed as if he was a teenager who was just as awkward as you. Plus, everything just seemed so natural between the two of you.
Peter watched you grab a bottle and spray it in the jar. Whiffs of lavender invaded his senses but it soon went away as you closed the jar. That probably explained why you constantly had the scent of lavender following you around.
“So what’s up with the stars?” Peter inquired, something he wondered but never asked as Peter. He was in awe at how the jar you held had the same exact colors of the sky a few hours earlier when they first started talking, but more so because of how you’re able to make so many.
“Oh, uh,” You looked down sheepishly. “It’s kinda silly.”
“Nah!” Peter exclaimed. You looked up at him in curiosity. “I’m sure it’s not, I mean have you seen my first costume? Man, kinda cringey now that I think about it.”
You laughed out, “Mood, big mood.” Peter laughed at your response as well. He couldn’t help but adore your smile as well. And the way that your eyes crinkled in the corners? Not that he’d ever tell you.
“Well,” you began to explain, reminiscing about your childhood. “It started out when I was younger.”
***
Your twinkling eyes looked up into the night sky through your window. The new city you moved into was exciting. You were too young to be in school, so it didn’t upset you to move. It just made you excited for new adventures.
But the night sky here was different than your hometown. There were barely any stars, there were no constellations. Your small mouth frowned and as your mother tucked you into bed, she asked you what was wrong. You shuffled your arm out and pointed out the window.
“Where are the stars?” You asked. Your mother took a moment to think as she tried to admire the empty night sky. You expected her to respond but instead she got up from your bed and went to your desk, which was messy with arts and crafts. Your mom picked up a pair of scissors and a piece of (f/c) paper, knowing it was your favorite color. You watched her with wonder and when she came back with a single thin strip of paper, your face was furrowed with confusion. Her fingers, however, held the strip of paper in place in front of you.
“Do you want to hear a story?” Your mother asked. “About the stars?” With a nod she continued. “On the Island of Japan, there was this little girl who adored the stars in the night sky. Each night she would set off to watch the stars but then there was a night when they started to fall out of the sky. And each night they continued to fall until there were none left in the sky. So the young girl had an idea that if she created enough stars-” her fingers began to nimbly move as she created a paper star “-and put them in a jar, she could hold the fallen stars inside of it. But she couldn’t make enough so she got her friends to help her and soon enough the stars appeared in the night sky once more.” She held out her hand and in the palm of it was a paper star. You couldn’t even comprehend how she made a star but you were beaming and looked up at her.
“I don’t need my friends’ help!” You exclaimed. “I’ll make all the stars by myself! Can I try mom?” She only laughed as she rose up from the bed once more. Your mom grabbed a clear jar off your desk that was filled with pencils and put it in another. Dropping the star in the now-empty jar and setting it next to your bed on the nightstand, she kissed your forehead.
“Of course sweetie, but in the morning, that way you can see a few more stars tomorrow night.” You smiled happily, staring at the single star in the jar. If all the stars fell out of the sky one day, you’d only make more, hoping that they’ll appear once again.
***
You smiled fondly at the memory as you gripped the jar tighter. Peter noticed that it was not the same smile that made the corner of your eyes crinkle. Rather, the corner of your eyes began to gather with tears and you quickly swept them away as you reminisce the times you could no longer have with your mother. Peter wanted to comfort you, hold you tight to tell you he was there for you, but he wasn’t Peter. He was Spider-man.
“Yeah so,” you broke the silence, thankful Spider-Man didn’t say anything as you recollected yourself, “when I was younger I thought I could make enough stars for them to appear in the sky. Course, I was disappointed early on. But since then, I’ve just made a bunch of stars for a while. It helps me relax in times of stress, and with AP season beginning soon, this helps. Otherwise, I just make them to give to friends and family or just ‘cause.”
Peter parted his mouth about to respond but then Karen told him of a robbery happening  a few blocks down. The sounds of sirens filled the two teenager’s ears, causing both to look in the direction they were coming from.
“Ah, that’s my cue,” Peter said. You could’ve sworn that his voice was laced with disappointment, but it was probably in your imagination. After all, why would Spider-Man want to talk to you?
The masked hero started to stand up from where he was sitting. “Those stars of yours are pretty cool. And that story of yours is cute too. I hope we can still talk sometime in the future, maybe?” You were taken aback by his words.
“You still want to talk to me?” You sputtered.
“Well, yeah,” he rubbed the back of his neck. “It’d be really cool to get to know you.” You knew he was smiling under the mask, or at least you hope he was (Peter was grinning). You were smiling with him as well.
“Then sure, yeah,” you breathed out in awe. You glanced at the police cars that drove past the intersection in front of you. “You should probably go.”
“Oh, yeah, I should.” He started walking towards the edge of the fire escape.
“Hey Spidey?” You called out. Peter turned his head to face you.
“Yeah?”
“Be safe.”
“Thanks,” He replied with a smile. It wasn’t often that Peter was told to be safe (except from Tony, May, and Ned but that was as Peter). It made his heart burst to know that you were always so caring.
He jumped off the escape and went off swinging. You watched him disappear as he swung around a corner in the same direction as the police cars. Getting up from your spot, you grabbed the boxes of stars and the finished star jar in your arms. Then you climbed in through the window and set everything down on your desk before grabbing a specific jar off your personal set. The jar held the black Spider-Man symbol in the middle with a red circle and then specks of red in a sea of blue for the rest of the jar.
You let out a heavy sigh and then stared the spot you were sitting at moments earlier.
Did Spider-Man really just talk to you?

Well, even though I’m already getting ready for Xmas, we can’t ignore thanksgiving. How bout a piece on Tom meeting the whole family on this day but it’s a chaotic mess because holidays can just bring out the best or worst in us. Maybe that’s just my family. Anyways, happy writing! 🦃
Thanks for the request babes :-) I hope this is what you had in mind (I vaguely say aunts, siblings, cousins, so the reader is able to imagine however many they have) enjoy!! ❤️
Word count: 2,145
✭♡✭♡✭♡✭
Even though you had been dating Tom for eight months, the two of you had never spent the holidays together. You had met at the most imperfect time, in late February.
Though you didn’t want to admit it, what unfolded tonight at your family’s Thanksgiving dinner would determine how you would continue on with your relationship. Your family was incredibly Important to you, and their opinion on your boyfriend was just as significant.
Despite the pressure that weighed on you and Tom’s shoulders, you were calm and collected. You were almost positive that they were going to love him as much as you had grown to.
Tom though, understandably, was a nervous wreck.
“Ughhh they’re gonna hate me.” He whispered, crossing his arms in a childish manner, mimicking one in a way that was intended to make you laugh. You chuckled loudly from the driver’s seat, trying to not keep your eyes off the road for more than a second.
“I think the fact that you have a British accent is enough to make my family like you.” You teased, reaching across the armrest and setting a comforting hand on his thigh. He relaxed immediately as you continued.
“We’ve talked about my past relationships before. But I’ve brought worse boys home, you being a decent human being is most definitely enough.”
“I know I know.” He mumbled, setting his hand over yours. “I just want it to be more than that. I’m here to prove myself whether you feel like that’s what’s gonna happen.”
“Yeah, totally.” You quipped, a bit flattered that he was so anxious to meet your parents and siblings. A guy had never shown this much interest in you before, yet alone your family.
“I can see you trying not to smile.” He teased.
Breaking into a smile, you shook your head, purposefully turning farther to the opposite side. Tom always did this, and you smiled every single time.
“Shush up and let me focus on the road”
Whatever your boyfriend said next faded into the background, and he soon turned his attention to his cell phone.
It had been months since you’d been to your hometown, and you were anxious to see it again. You were a well known actor like Tom, and that had kept you in many unfamiliar places surrounded by unfamiliar people. Coming back to your roots on such an important family holiday was what you had been waiting for. To see the people you loved again, and to introduce someone special to them.
Though your hometown was smaller, and not entirely significant, you were proud to be from the area. It was lively and decorated, the landscape stretching on for miles with rolling hills and hundreds of trees.
Your house was placed in a tight knit family friendly area. And as you drove closer, the aspects of your beloved neighborhood and town had become distinct, even the familiar layouts of the back roads put a smile on your face.
You breathed a sigh of relief. Nostalgia was a killer, and you were excited to show Tom around the town you held so close to your heart.
“Here we are.” You turned onto the block, and pulled into the driveway.
Tom tucked his phone away and focused his attention on what lay before him. “It’s lovely.” He smiled, pointing to a window on the second floor. “I bet that used to be your room.”
“Correct.” You tried not to giggle like the little girl you used to be. Unbuckling, you leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek.
As you pulled away, Tom was staring intensely. One look at you, and his nerves seemed to fade. You were so happy to bring him back. He loved to see you fulfilled, and loved that he was part of that reason.
Without another word, the two of you gathered your bags and made your way up to the front porch. The smell of holiday scented candles was the first thing you noticed when you opened the door. You could hear the afternoon football game playing from the living room loudly, and the bustling of your mother in the kitchen.
But before you stepped over the threshold into your warmly lit home, you leaned over and purred into Tom’s ear. “If you behave, you’re in for treat tonight.”
Tom snorted, nudging you away. “Shut up, I haffta focus.”
You kissed him again, but this time it was fully on the lips. You winked before screaming, “IM HOME!”
Then it was madness. Your family flooded to the front door, taking your bags so they could embrace you for the first time in months. It felt so good to be back, it was almost as if you had never moved out. Everything was the same, everything was familiar.
Introductions ensued. Cooing from your mother, going on and on about how handsome he was, though you had already shown her pictures. (She had seen all his movies already, but she would never admit that.)
A brooding stare from your father- which soon turned into a firm handshake. Your father didn’t really care who walked through the door, as long as they would watch sports with him. Tom definitely had some homework.
And your younger siblings of course, they had been waiting to meet Spider-Man since the moment you told them you were dating a superhero. They poked and prodded him, asking if he could play with them later and give they battle strategy tips.
It was all coming together, and thank God you arrived over an hour earlier than you had intended, so you could find some peace before the storm. Tom was unprepared for the mayhem that was about to ensue when suburban women had to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner.
Though you weren’t prepared for it, you were grateful. You were happy, watching him smile, his eyes twinkle, the corners of his eyes crinkling when your mother showed genuine interest in his career and experiences.
You were sentimental, wishing you could have spent a portion of your childhood with Tom, something that could have developed into an epic love story, one that stretched across decades. Your families would have already been close, before the fame. But when you thought harder about it, you were satisfied with what you had. You were incredibly smitten with Tom, and by the effort he was putting forth, he was equally smitten with you.
Tom had never been to the suburbs, so this trip was equivalent to a vacation for him. Which you found strange, given the fact that it was the fucking suburbs– but you didnt want to ruin his fun.
And ruined it was, or so that’s what it seemed like as your mother screamed at the top of her lungs for your younger siblings to leave the kitchen. You were by her side, also in an apron, trying to carve the turkey as best as you could while your mother mashed potatoes like she had never mashed them before.
“When are the aunties coming?” You squirmed and ripped another chunk of meat off the turkey bones, tossing them into a glass bowl.
“On their way.” Your mom said breathlessly, finishing the mashed potatoes and focusing on stirring the gravy. She then ordered you to crack open a few cans of cranberry sauce.
“Will we be done in time?” You glanced to the oven that had biscuits baking in it.
“Yes. Your grandmother is bringing doubled eggs and relish plates. Your aunt is bringing…” she trailed off as her attention was turned to the stuffing that had yet to be loaded into a plate. Unfortunately, your mom had fallen behind schedule this year and had to cook everything in the last couple hours. Part of that reason was because she was distracted with your arrival. It was a mess, but it was all coming together. With your help of course.
“Is there anything I can help with, Mrs. L/N?” Tom peaked his head around the corner at the commotion. You knew he had been distracted with a long friendly lecture from your father.
Your mother didn’t seem to hear him, as her train of thought was interrupted by the oven beeping. The biscuits were done.
She breathed a sigh of relief, and turned the oven off. Everything was finally cooked, and still piping hot for all the family to enjoy. Yet your mother still seemed anxious. But that was just how she was, every single year.
“You’re the guest, Tom.” You smiled. “And everything is done.”
He gave you two thumbs up, flashing a cheshire grin. Surprisingly, he seemed over the moon, probably excited for the food that was lying in front of him. It was aromatic, and your stomach started to grumble.
“Can I at least help set up?” He asked, guilt flashing across his face. Tom was one of those people that hated to sit around and watch everyone else take part in activities, even if it was as simple as setting up the dinner table. ‘Let me do something’ He mouthed, practically pleading with his eyes.
Your father made his way into the room, but before he could say anything, your mother piped up, back still turned away from the three of you.
Your mother chuckled. “Oh sweetie, guests don’t help set the table.” She walked past him, picking up the carved turkey and setting it gracefully in the center of the elongated wooden table.
“Guests?” You father chortled, clapping Tom on the back. “He’s practically family now.”
Your father’s eyes met your for a moment, and you were pleased to find his statement was genuine. Your heart fluttered, forever grateful that your parents seemed to approve of him. That was a first.
“Oops!” Your mother laughed. “You’re right, honey.” She walked past Tom and guestered for him to follow. “Grab whatever you’d like and bring it over then.” Normally, she would have made a joke, but you could tell she was tired, and wanted to eat.
Snorting, you shook your head. You knew she was trying extra hard to impress Tom. Like you, she had been waiting for another man in the family to spoil. Nodding towards the biscuits, Tom gained the hint that you wanted him to snatch something else to help set up.
That was the calm before the storm. The hustling and bustling of dishes signaled to your siblings and cousins that it was time to eat. They practically ran into the kitchen, a whirlwind of thank you’s in their paths. Taking advantage of that opportunity, your mother started handing them dishes to set on the table.
And before you and Tom knew it, there was nothing left to place on the table.
Setting the biscuits sheepishly on the edge of the table, and handing a few to your cousins at the kiddie bench, he rounded back to your side.
“I feel worthless.” He whispered in your ear, knowing it was a light-hearted joke.
“It’s fine babe, next time.” You left a light kiss on his cheek.
The two of you started to make your way to the table, unable to ignore the grumbling in your stomachs. You had purposefully told Tom not to eat a single thing before the gigantic meal. You had also advised that it was more than welcomed to take seconds, thirds, and even fourths.
And then, as if on cue, the front door violently swung open, and in hurried your aunts and grandparents. “Oofta, traffic was a killer.” You heard you grandmother’s voice complain loudly from the front entrance. A chilling breeze followed, refreshing in the warmly lit atmosphere.
You turned and saw your grandfather balancing at least four pumpkin pies in his hands. Tom rushes forward to help, and you followed suit.
“OH MY GOSH IT’S Y/N’S BOYFRIEND!” Your rambunctious aunt seemed to yell at the top of her lungs when she spotted the stranger.
Tom’s eyebrows raised in amusement.
“Be prepared for kisses.” You warned, smiling from ear to ear, knowing he had already been warned of their excessive amounts of affection.
It was going to be an incredibly wild night. One that you and Tom would remember for years to come.

Is it silly to say that when you pictured your future, you saw yourself marrying an American man and having the whole white picket fence and three children fantasy? Because if it is, then you were an absolute buffoon. You know Carrie Underwood’s All American Girl? Yeah, that’s what you envisioned. I mean, she was a huge inspiration for the songs you wrote and sang.
That is, until you met him. Recording a song for the soundtrack of his movie was probably one of the biggest steps in your career. Not that you weren’t doing good on your own, you were. But being on the Spider-Man soundtrack, millions maybe billions of people listening to your voice, was a huge step. That was something you signed up for right away.
The day you met him, you were only suppose to get a quick tour of where filming was happening. An insider look since you were being featured on the soundtrack. No snooping. And as far as you were concerned, they wouldn’t be filming that day. So you wouldn’t meet any of them.
Lies. Complete lies. They weren’t filming. But they were all there. Jacob, Zendaya, Jake and Tom. Tom ‘Spider-Man himself’ Holland.
As you walked by, you couldn’t remember your surroundings, you heard him laughing. Turning your head towards the harmonious sound, you spotted him. Head tilted back slightly, hands tugging at the bottom of his shirt. You saw his dimples and you swore that was the cutest face you’d ever seen. And then, then you heard his accent.
“Y/n? I’m a huge fan,” he was sprinting towards you, leaving the crew behind. The smile on his face was making your heart flutter as his hand reached out to you. You took his hand; his handshake was firm, but his touch was soft.
“You? A huge fan of me?” you scoffed hand still locked with his. You couldn’t believe such a lie. How could he be a fan of you? I mean he was Tom freaking Holland. You still couldn’t believe it until he name one of your songs, his head moving to a makeshift beat he was making on the spot.
A chuckle escaped your lips as you watched his head bob. Then you realized your hand was still holding his and now suddenly your face burning and you needed to find shelter.
“I’m making you blush?” His smile was cocky, but his eyes were sweet. So sweet like chocolate. You shook your head, hiding your face from him not wanting him to see what he was doing to you. But he knew.
And the rest was history. Brief summary: he asked you out, you said yes, a kiss or two later he asked you to be his girlfriend, you said yes. It was all sweet and dandy, except for one big detail. You weren’t public.
Two years. Two years of hiding your relationship with Tom. How was it possible that you were able to hide your love for this man from the world? Well, simple put. You didn’t. The majority of your songs after having been with Tom were about him. You couldn’t not write about him. He was everything you’d hope for and more. He was your white picket fence and you wanted those three kids. You really did.
“Hey, babe. Come in here, I wrote something.” You called out from the makeshift studio you and Tom had built in your shared home. A home that no one knew you shared with him. Tom peeked his head from the couch watching your radiant smile and hand calling him over.
He jumped from the couch, eager to listen to your music. He really was a big fan. Now, he couldn’t believe that 99% of your songs were about him.
“You ready?” you asked with a huge smile as you watched him settle into the chair you had in there specially for him. He’d sit there late at night when the lyrics were flowing or when you just couldn’t find the right words or the right beat. He was there, in that chair.
“Wait, you’ve got a name for it?” he asked his eyes curious as he rubbed his hands excitedly.
“London Boy,” you were excited and you couldn’t hide it. The smile on your face was ridiculously sickening. You just really freaking love this song because you really freaking loved him. Your London Boy.
Tom’s ears perked at the name. His eyes twinkling already, like they so often did when you played him new music. He was going to cry, you just knew it.
You played a very run down, not at all studio version, of the song on your guitar. It always started that way. Just you and your guitar.
The song felt a lot more intimate for Tom, who indeed, had teary eyes as he heard sing about all the memories you’d shared in the past two years. From meeting his childhood 'mates’ for the first time to visiting his hometown and making you be a total tourist.
By the time you were down singing, Tom was a full on mess. Huge grin. Despite the squinty eyes, you could see the tears forming in the corner of his eyes. You didn’t think this song would have this big of an effect on him.
“Darling, I fancy you.” He quoted standing from the chair and grabbing your face pulling your attention from your guitar. His lips were on yours in seconds. Just pressed on you, savoring the taste of your lips. Your soft lips that he loved so damn much. The lips he loved to kiss goodnight and kiss good morning. The lips that sang such beautiful things to him and made him putty in your hands.
“I love you, darling” you mocked whispering against his lips. You felt him smile before his lips started moving. He was now kneeling in front of you, your faces parallel. Your guitar long forgotten as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders pulling him closer.
You lived for this. You lived for days like this, for moments like this with your London Boy and you couldn’t wait to have that white picket fence with him.

I find the only way to complete a Christmas and a house brimming with friends and relatives – is to host a Brothers Trust event – three consecutive but staggered screenings of Tom’s new film, Spies in Disguise at the Archlight Cinema in Battersea, London.
We did make some tickets available for sale – snapped up in moments and had people travelling in from Miami, LA, Australia and China. All very welcome, lovely to see you and thank you for coming.
But predominantly, tickets had been given to children and their families who could use some excitement and respite from difficult circumstances and some pernicious medical conditions. It was our pleasure to welcome children from Momentum, Make a Wish, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Alex’s Wish and Debra of course for a chance to see the film and meet one of its voice stars. Tom, not Will and so Mrs H was less excited than some of the attendees.
An early start for us all and on the road for 7am.
Among the many jobs I am apportioned, my first task was to pick up Harry (on filming duties) and deliver him safely with equipment to the venue. Then I was to leave our car in the car park which was providing us with free spaces. But of course, I didn’t read this email and nor could I find this particular car park and instead I use my initiative and find a car park of my own and one with acres of spaces.
What could go wrong?
As soon as I grab my ticket and drive through the barrier, I realise my error.  The few cars already parked are all of a certain marque. Bentleys, Porsches, Aston Martins, Ferraris and just for today, a sole and errant, Mitsubishi. There is a reason why I have my pick of parking spaces to choose from.
It’s one of those London car parks that costs the earth but I have no time to worry about such things.  And how much can it be, really? I am only going to see Spies in Disguise and not Gandhi or Schindlers List. But then I recall, three times. Spies in Disguise, three times! And it occurs to me that my car might now even be a right off.
I put this out of my mind – easily done as the event unfurls and the glee of children’s faces is there for all to see. Kids who have come from all over the UK and with many setting out as early as 3am for trips to London and an appointment with Tom.
Tom introduced each film and then sat afterwards for a Q&A – which mainly focuses on Marvel and another character he currently plays – and then on to have a photo taken by Nikki and a chance for a quick chat.
The Brothers Trust might be a young endeavour but it has had a great year. Our biggest event for our two lucky winners in LA for the World premiere of Spider-Man Far From Home. The launch of our T-shirts (for Debra and their campaign #fightEB), the launch of our brotherstrustdogsclub with entry to this most exclusive club being only the purchase of one of our collars and much more planned for next year – kicking off with the re-publication of Open Links for Antony Nolan… a perfect way to round off such a busy year was this morning, in London, Tom’s hometown with a bunch of kids for a screening of a movie that I suspect many of them will never forget.
To end then with a big thank you to the Archlight Cinema for hosting us so kindly and for the second time. Brilliant cinema, lovely staff and a cool funky location but I’d take the train because some of the car parks in the area are so fuc…
Thanks to Disney for providing the films but also the back drop for the photos, not to mention the posters and toys for the goodie bags.
And finally to all the clever people behind the making of this great film, Spies in Disguise.
Some years back I was lucky enough to be in LA and catch a voice session that Tom recorded for the film. About four hours in length, it was remarkably physical and Tom was pretty much spent at the end. During the session, I was chatting with a lady from the studio – a senior person in the food chain and she explained to me the input that such films require…
600 people per day - for two years. Not to mention the work of the writer/s and directors many years predating this war effort.
But well worth it in this instance because Spies in Disguise is a lovely film. Funny, thrilling and poignant and a great way of keeping kids entertained and out of trouble while we wait for schools to kick back in.
Happy holidays everyone.
Thank you to all our supporters.
See you all on the other side in 2020…

lover series: london boy - t.h.
A/N: And the fluff continues...
Word Count: 2.2k
Tumblr media
I love my hometown as much as Motown, I love SoCal
And you know I love Springsteen, faded blue jeans, Tennessee whiskey
In terms of the phrase “some days are better than others” this was definitely one of the others. You felt the homesickness physically churn in your stomach, thinking of LA and the whiskey you would order at the dive bar on Friday nights to celebrate the weekend. Spending last night with Tom was really tugging at your heartstrings, because the dive bar is how you guys ended up meeting.
“Whatcha thinking about?” he walks up in his Spider-Man suit, smirking at you. Clearly thinking that he was the one on your mind, but you wouldn’t satisfy him that quickly.
“Home, actually.” You smile up at him. That whiskey sure would help right about now.
“Missing it?” he questions. “A little bit. Must be nice for you to be filming in London.”
“Yeah, it actually is. My mum and brothers are going to visit set later today. You should say hi if you, you know, you want,” he stutters the last part out as he tries to cover it with a cough.
You smile back, equally as nervous. “That’s moving a little fast, don’t you think, Holland?”
“They already know you basically…”
Your eyebrows furrow. “How so?”
“I may have told them about you…”
“Tom…”
“No-not like that darling!” Darling. “I just mean, I talk about the cast and crew all the time, and they notice you in particular because you’re the crew member I talk about the most, and I-”
“Tom. It’s sweet, really.” “You think so?”
“Yes,” you chuckle. “I’d love to say hi.”
His eyes widen. “That would be great! I’ll let you know when they’re here yeah?”
You smile and nod, hearing his name called in the distance on the set.
“I gotta run, I’ll see you later darling!” he runs off before you can even give him your own nickname.
It had been less than 24 hours since you had kissed and spent the night just talking about all the feelings you had kept inside for so long until you both fell asleep. You both had to be up at 5am for a 6am call time, but the adrenaline kept you energetic regardless of the three hours of sleep you had gotten.
Watching him run off into the distance, you were glad you both admitted that “close friends” wasn’t working for you anymore. You knew that “just friends” wouldn’t work the second you met him in the dive bar in LA all those months ago, but to have it reciprocated was a new level of relief you didn’t know you’d be able to achieve.
But something happened, I heard him laughing
I saw the dimples first and then I heard the accent
six months earlier...
You had walked in with your roommates, hoping to forget about the fact you had the biggest interview of your life earlier that day and that it could make or break your career in the entertainment industry.
The bar was slightly full, still being early in the evening, and while all the girls went to dance you decided to sit. You had a difficult time bringing yourself to dance with strangers, and sometimes sitting and watching was more relaxing and less anxiety inducing. Turning around, you see one of them already dancing with a tall, gorgeous blonde with the brightest shade of blue eyes. Score.
“You fancy the seats more too, eh?”
And you’d be lying if you said it wasn’t the prettiest voice you had ever heard. The words rolled out of his mouth like honey, quiet and smooth and delicious. You turned towards the owner to see an even prettier set of curls on the warmest face you had come across in any bar.
“A little bit,” you smile. He looked familiar. Why did he look familiar?
“Not ashamed to admit I love them. Dancing isn’t really my thing - unless it’s choreographed anyway. Harrison, on the other hand,” he nods towards the tall boy behind your roommate. “My roommate is entertaining him just fine I think,” you gesture towards her, giggling.
He smiles, the kind that reaches your eyes. He sticks his hand out, “I’m Tom.”
And then it clicks. You grab his hand, “Thought you looked familiar. I’m Y/N.”
“Hoping you’re not going to call the paps on me. Trying to lay low tonight,” with any other guy that happened to be a hot celebrity, you would have scoffed. But he was clearly joking around, trying to be lighthearted. It was sweet. “I actually am not a superfan...I just happened to interview for crew today. For the new movie.”
His eyes light up at the mention of work, “No way! That’s awesome. What do you do?”
You sigh, “Gaffing mostly. Nothing exciting. I really want to produce...eventually.”
“You will be sooner than you think,” he smiles. How could a stranger have more confidence in you than you had in yourself? “Tell you what. If I could just get your phone number, I’ll make sure to put a good word in and then keep you updated.”
“Put a good word in? You barely know me!” you try to be serious, because this was your career after all, but it was Tom fucking Holland. Why would he do something like this?
“Because you seem lovely, dedicated to your job just by the look in your eyes when you said the word ‘gaffing’,” he stops to laugh, “and it does help that you are one of the most gorgeous women I’ve ever met.” You scoff.
Charming.
And the rest was history.
They say home is where the heart is
But that's not where mine lives
You were more than relieved to have your feelings towards him be out in the open, but that didn’t mean it was open to everyone else necessarily. You were starting to get distracted at work not only having Tom there, but also thinking of meeting his family? Who apparently already knew about you.
Shaking off the stress, you continue setting lights and building equipment - something you could do mindlessly while keeping focus somewhere that wasn’t your hot coworker.
Before you knew it, it was your lunch break. Walking back to the trailer, you feel another hand grab yours delicately. And there he is, once again grinning from ear to ear making you breathless - as if his hand grabbing yours wasn’t stressful enough.
“Hey! The gang’s all in my trailer, wanna come over for a few?” You swallow thickly.
You nod and try to manage a smile. “Sounds great.”
You were convinced you had blacked out during the walk to the trailer, just from pure panic. Before you knew it the nicest British family was standing in front of you, with the cutest dog ever. An adorable puppy to add to the fun? Your heart rate was definitely going to set off the Health app on your watch.
“Darlin’, this is my mum, and my brothers - Sam, Harry, and Paddy,” Tom smiles and gestures to each member.
“So nice to meet you Mrs. Holland,” you reach out to shake her hand, which she uses to pull you in for a delicate hug.
“Lovely to meet you darling!” This family and that damn darling. “I’m Nikki. Mrs. Holland is a little older sounding than I like,” she laughs.
“Hi guys, nice to meet you,” you turn to the brothers. Paddy’s eyes had widened when he got a good look at you, and before you could ask why he answers.
“You really are as pretty as Tom described,” Paddy laughs with a blush.
“Paddy!” Tom yelps. You feel your cheeks heat up.
“I’m flattered, thank you,” you chuckle.
“Alright, well I...have to get back to set so you guys can be on your way!” Tom hints through gritted teeth to his family.
“Oh but my dear brother, we have no idea how to get out of here,” Harry chuckles. “Maybe she can show us the way?” he turns to you with raised eyebrows. Well.
“Of course,” you smile. No need to be rude, no matter how nervous you were.
Tom groans, “Please don’t embarrass me anymore. I want Y/N to like me enough to hang out with me tomorrow.”
You whip your head around, “We’re hanging out tomorrow?”
“Might want to ask the girl out before you assume things, brother,” Sam laughs.
“Shut up Sam! Yea-ah I was hoping I could show you around Camden Market tomorrow morning? Since it’s our day off but you don’t have to I know you probably have better things t-”
“Tom!” You interrupt. He whips his head up to look you in the eyes. They’re always pretty, but when filled with hopeful anticipation they glow more than usual. How could you say no to that?
“I’d love to. Tomorrow morning. Now let me show your family how to get out of this maze.”
You know I love a London boy
I enjoy walking Camden Market in the afternoon
The next morning Tom is at your hotel door at 9 a.m. - which is considered sleeping in to you two with your schedules - with your coffee order and a smile. Always smiling, even in the morning.
Tom was probably one of the only people that could cause you to smile in the morning. A morning person you were not. And Tom knew that.
“Vanilla latte,” he hands you the warm cup. You sigh as it rests in your hands. Taking a sip, you close your eyes to enjoy warmth filling your body.
“Thank you,” you smile.
“No worries, pretty girl.” You take a pause.
“That’s the first time I’ve heard you use something other than ‘Dah-lin’,” you giggle trying to mimic his accent.
“Well, darling is common. I’m trying to not use common names for someone special,” he winks. Damn he was smooth. “Also that is a horrible accent!”
Okay maybe not that smooth.
He leads you from the hotel down the streets of suburban London, people barely waking up and opening the curtains. Being up early on occasion was nice, just for the sake of the quiet and low risk of running into fans. Regardless of the time, Tom still wore his signature black hoodie when he didn’t want to be noticed. It was sweet that he wanted to hang out with you as privately as possible, and you feel your sleepiness roll off of you as you smile.
“What’s so funny?” He chuckles.
“Nothing’s funny. You’re just cute,” you giggle - eyes wide and hands covering your mouth after you realized what you had said. He pulls your hand away from your lips (rosy from the cold).
He likes my American smile
“Don’t cover that smile up pretty girl” he smirks as he kisses the corner of your mouth. You could definitely get used to this. You know you’re probably making heart eyes when you realize he’s staring at you.
Like a child when our eyes meet, darling, I fancy you
“Everything okay, Tom?”
He smiles, but it’s not playful per usual. There’s something deeper behind it. “Yeah I just...I fancy you.”
The moment is ruined when you start laughing. He rolls his eyes.
“I was trying to be romantic!”
“That was the most British thing you’ve ever said, I’m sorry!” You attempt to stop laughing while he pouts at you, eventually calming down and kissing his cheek. “I fancy you too, dah-lin,” you giggle.
“You’re lucky you’re cute.”
Took me back to Highgate, met all of his best mates
So I guess all the rumors are true
A few nights later, Tom asked you to come to dinner so he could catch up with his best friend, Harrison, near his suburban hometown a few miles away from set. You reluctantly agreed, hoping that it wouldn’t be too weird (unlikely for you and your social skills) but after realizing Harrison was the tall blonde from all those months ago at the club, your heart rate steadied a bit.
You went to the diner Tom and Harrison would go to when they were younger, and you were surprised at how easy the conversation flowed. By the end of the night, you and Harrison were laughing about how your roommate ghosted him and how much you loved pancakes.
“Guys I’m literally right here,” Tom rolls his eyes.
“I think I might like Haz more, babe,” you laugh. Harrison doesn’t say anything when he notices the pet name, he just smiles and feels confident that you would be around for a long time.
The next morning, paparazzi photos of you three in the diner show up along with you and Tom leaving together. He drinks his tea and slams his phone on the table in his trailer.
“Fucking hell! I can’t get any privacy even in the suburbs,” he groans. Your eyes soften with empathy. Walking over to where he was sitting you try to calm him down. You grab his hands and kiss his knuckles. He glances at you, and the anger slowly dissipates.
“It’s okay. At least they’re not rumors right? We really are seeing each other,” you try to amuse him. He lets out a dry chuckle.
“I guess you’re right. Thank you, pretty girl,” his smile returns and he kisses you gently while you keep your grip on both of his hands.
“Hey Tom?”
You know I love a London boy
Boy, I fancy you
“Yeah baby?”
“I fancy you,” you smile.

Meeting his family (T.H)
Requests open
Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader
Summary: You just arrived in London to meet Tom’s family for the first time before going back to LA with him.
Word Count: 1.639
a/n: My mother tongue is not English so if you find any mistakes let me know. This also my first ever imagine and I don’t know how good it is. Enjoy.
---
You and Tom had been dating for over a month. He had asked you out a couple days after the premiere of Spider-man: Far From Home in a cute little cafe near your house, the same one where you had had your first date. However, the relationship wasn’t public yet and it actually worried you that Tom would say something about it, taking into account that he wasn’t good at keeping secrets, even more, when there where some rumors about Tom dating someone and he had to do interviews for the newly released movie, so you were quite worried that someone asked about you to Tom and he would say something you didn’t want to be publicly known.
Nevertheless, he really wanted to show you to the world. At least his private little one which included his family. You obviously agreed to that. You had been waiting to meet his family for a while now. He talked so well about them, and he was very proud of all their projects, so you were excited to meet the people he admired the most, but also nervous. Making a good impression was important to you, and that made you feel a bit anxious. You had met Harry once in the set of SM: FFH when you and Tom were 'just friends' and he seemed fun and nice. Tom had told you a hundred times that his family would like you the same way Harry liked you when you first met. However, that didn’t calm you down.
Right now you were at the airport after spending the weekend with your family in your hometown. You were waiting for Tom. He had to pick you up because you were terrified of driving on the left side of the road. While walking out of the airplane you got a text from your boyfriend saying that he got caught up on traffic and he would be late, so you thought of waiting for him in one of the cafes at the airport. You informed him of your waiting location so he could come and find you once he arrived. Luckily, you were just carrying a bag and a purse as you weren’t going to be in England for long. You were just staying for a night, even though the next day you would go back to your shared house in LA.
After the airplane ride, you were both hungry and thirsty, but you were too nervous to eat or drink anything at the moment, so you just sat there watching the people who were about to board the plane or just arrived in London, excited to start exploring the gorgeous city. A few moments passed by and you started to hear muttering from behind you. Your first instinct was to look up to find out what was going on, and soon you spotted your beautiful boyfriend greeting some of his fans. He finally saw you sitting there with a smile on your face, not wanting to walk over him and intervene in the encounter. He said goodbye to his fans and approached you. You got up from your seat and made your way to him, opening your arms and hugging him, arms around his neck. His hands tight around your body, pulling you as close to him as possible. You missed each other a lot when you were away with your family. He pulled away from the hug and went in for a kiss. You instantly pulled away before it was too late. The cafe was really crowded and kissing him would give away that you are in a relationship and you definitely didn’t want that to happen. He didn’t take it in the wrong way. He actually regretted it and apologized, knowing you are not a fan of PDA, even less in front of his fans.
You started walking back to where his car was parked. He was carrying your bag as the gentleman he is although you insisted that it wasn’t necessary. Soon after, you reached the car, he put the bag in the back of the car and entered it. Once inside, he finally passionately kissed you, showing how much he had missed you. All the car ride was filled with laughter and non-stop talking about the last days, his hand never left yours, and he clearly noticed your nervousness. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing. It’s just... I’m kind of nervous about meeting your family. You always talk so well about them, and I’m worried I’m not good enough for them” “Are you kidding me? Y/N, they are going to love you. You are absolutely amazing, you have nothing to worry about”. What he said was really nice, and it calmed you down a little bit, but not entirely. You gave him a small smile to reassure him he didn't have to worry, but he kept going anyway. "Harry really liked you when you met him. I told you that like a hundred times already, and I promise you he is the most difficult to impress in my family. The rest already loves you just by hearing me talking about you. I promise you don't have to worry about anything, just be yourself and everything will be fine". He then followed to kiss your hand, which made you stay calm until you reached his parents' house.
While getting out of the car, your heart started beating faster and your palms sweating again. Tom, being really observative, walked over to you, with your bag in his hand, and kissed you on the forehead trying to calm you down. He grabbed your hand and guided you to his front door. He looked at you, still nervous, and smiled you one last time before knocking on the front door, making sure his family was aware he was already home. He opened it for you to get in and entered right behind you, closing door afterward.
The first one to notice you were Paddy, who was sitting on the sofa watching TV. He got up and came over to you to greet you. He was so cute and so sweet. “Hello, darling. It’s so nice to finally meet you” said Nikki coming from the kitchen and pulling you in for a hug. You had to admit she smelled really nice which made you not to want to end the hug. “It’s nice to meet you too, Nikki” “How did you manage to find someone so beautiful?” Nikki asked Tom in a jokingly way, making both of you blush. Tom moved his hand around your waist and pulled you closer to him. “Dinner will be ready soon. Why don’t you go and unpack everything?” She suggested while going back into the kitchen to finish dinner, which smelled amazing.
Paddy stayed downstairs to continue watching TV. Once upstairs, Tom asked you if you were feeling better. You were, but you still had to meet part of his family. On the way to Tom’s bedroom, you passed by Harry’s which door was open. “Hey, Harry” “Oh. Hello, guys. Didn’t know you were home.” Harry said getting off his bed and coming to say hi. That is when you felt something in your leg. You looked down and saw the cutest dog you had ever seen. You hadn’t had the opportunity to meet Tessa yet and you were looking forward to it. Now that you were with her, you didn’t hesitate to kneel down and pet her. She was also really excited to meet you. “We’ll be in my room” “OK” “And we are taking Tessa with us,” Tom told his brother. "Nice to see you again, Y/N" "You too, Harry," You said and followed your boyfriend into the room next door.
You were all settled in Tom's room and you decided to change your airplane clothes before dinner. While eating, you got to meet the rest of the family and you found out that you had nothing to worry about. They were really nice and sweet with you and tried the best to make you feel comfortable. Especially after Tom had to say you were nervous to meet them, what made you hit him slightly in the arm as a response. In the end, you and Sam seemed to have connected and when dinner was over all the Hollands encouraged you and him to play something on the piano, just because you mentioned you took some piano classes a few years ago. You still remembered something from those but your knowledge was pretty basic. Either way, they loved what you played even though they knew it wasn’t really good.
"Tom, are you going to watch Love Island tonight?" Harry asked his brother on their way to the kitchen. Your boyfriend looked back at you waiting for a response. He wasn't sure if you wanted to watch that or preferred to just cuddle with him in bed. You nodded your head as a sign that you didn't really care what to do tonight. You'll be able to cuddle with him anyway, and you didn't want to change their routine.
After putting away everything from the table, you sat on the sofa, waiting for your boyfriend and his brother to come and join you. Sam and Paddy went into their room, and Nikki and Dom stayed in the kitchen washing the dishes. Tom sat next to you and pulled you closer to him, wrapping his hands around you. Harry sat next to you, but far away enough for leaving some space for Tessa to snuggle in, and turned on the TV. You had never watched the show before, but you ended up enjoying it, for some part because of the funny comments the boys made, but mostly because you finally relaxed and got to spend the night with your favorite boy.

Yer fond of me lobster ain’t ye?
Tumblr media
Another year, another broken promise that I’d write more often. I’m not going to fool myself going forward and expect I’ll be able to keep up with reviewing every movie I see. However, I’ll continue to write my year-end movie review and perhaps a couple here and there when I feel inspired.
Looking back to last year’s post, I wouldn’t make too many changes, though I would certainly move Into the Spider-verse slightly higher up. I would also consider adding Upgrade to the list for how brazen it is.
Most of the films I called out as ones to watch for 2019 ended up being either on my list or in the composite image, which goes to show that it’s worth getting excited for new films more often than not.
Vancouver being the way that it is, sometimes we don’t get timely releases of films when other cities do. As a result, I haven’t had a chance to see 1917 and Uncut Gems yet. The latter of which I’ve been dying to see for months and would probably feature on this list.
Here’s the 10 best films I’ve seen from 2019:
10. John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum
Tumblr media
Whereas John Wick: Chapter 2 was the perfect escalation of its pared down predecessor, Chapter 3 is merely an excellent continuation of the newly minted franchise. However, while not bringing anything entirely new to the world of John Wick, it is still an intensely entertaining film. The first 20 minutes is some of the best fight choreography in the series to date and enough to secure a spot on this list.
9. Long Day’s Journey into Night
Tumblr media
From director Bi Gan, Long Day’s Journey into Night is a noirish drama about a man (Huang Jue) returning to his hometown following the death of his father to track down his lost love (Tang Wei). The film is a slow burn that jumps between past and present before descending into a surreal 60 minute single take shot filmed in 3D. Regretfully, the only screening I could attend was entirely 2D, but nonetheless, the sequence was still enthralling. This is the type of film that proves that spectacle doesn’t necessarily need to be tied to tentpole movies.
8.  Booksmart
Tumblr media
Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut suggests she has an effortless understanding of comedy. Written by a quartet of female writers, Booksmart feels like Superbad for a new generation (I can’t believe that film came out 12 years ago). Interestingly, Jonah Hill’s sister, Beanie Feldstein stars, alongside Kaitlyn Dever (daughter of the guy that voiced Barney the Purple Dinosaur). While it would be easy to say it’s “the female Superbad,” Booksmart is in fact much more than that. Replacing the misfits trying to get laid story with one about a pair of overachievers realizing almost too late that there’s more to life than good grades lets the film be looser and allows the comedy to happen more naturally.
7. Midsommar
Tumblr media
Ari Aster’s follow-up to 2018′s Hereditary began filming almost immediately after wrapping post-production on his previous film. As a result, Midsommar has that extra layer of a director exhausting himself by putting everything on the screen. Midsommar is a much more mature work than Hereditary and one that took a while to grow on me. My initial reaction was less enthusiastic than it is now, but it’s one of the films from 2019 that has stuck with me the most. I imagine a second watch or the extended director’s cut might raise my appreciation of it even more.
Florence Pugh gives a knockout performance that when combined with her roles in Little Women and last year’s Little Drummer Girl prove that she’ll be a star in no time.
6. Knives Out
Tumblr media
Rian Johnson’s first post-Star Wars film sees him reinvigorated and working with a bigger name cast than he has in the past. Essentially a whodunnit along the lines of Agatha Christie, Knives Out follows Daniel Craig’s southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc as he investigates the murder of a wealthy publisher (Christopher Plummer). In addition to playing with a few plot twists, Johnson includes a couple of structure twists as well that turn the film on its head.
In addition to Craig’s hammy performance, other standouts include Ana de Armas and Chris Evans as the publisher’s caregiver and grandson, respectively.
Johnson has hinted at the possibility of more Benoit Blanc mysteries, and as long as Daniel Craig is onboard, I’ll gladly watch them.
5. The Lighthouse
Tumblr media
In Robert Eggers’ followup to The Witch, Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson play a pair of lighthouse keepers in isolation. As would be expected, The Lighthouse is a paranoia-fuelled chamber piece, with Dafoe’s gruff experienced lighthouse keeper getting on the nerves of the younger Pattinson. And while this setup allows the two leads a chance to really dig into the 19th century dialects, the film takes the occasional departure into the eldritch for a very unsettling film.
As with Black Philip in The Witch, there’s a standout animal character in The Lighthouse - fittingly, a seagull.
4. Once Upon a Time ...in Hollywood
Tumblr media
Quentin Tarantino’s presumably penultimate film is perhaps his most mature work, ruminating on the idea of legacy and the film industry as a whole. Once Upon a Time ...in Hollywood is almost a Tarantino hangout movie reminiscent of parts of Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction. A lot of time is spent on scenes that don’t necessarily lead to the film’s climax, but allow the characters room to breathe and feel real. Other than the historical event hinted at throughout the movie, the film doesn’t seem to have a particular direction, which allows you to live in the lives of these characters more than if it was purely plot driven.
The main cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margo Robbie is great, but it’s Pitt who puts in a career best performance. There’s a quietness and a sadness to his character that brings some added depth to an otherwise bold cast.
3. Ad Astra
Tumblr media
Brad Pitt’s other great performance this year is in James Gray’s Ad Astra. Having seen Gray’s The Lost City of Z and purposefully avoiding trailers and reviews, my expectation for this film was a reflective voyage centred around the ideas of obsession, loss, and family. All of these ideas were present in Ad Astra, but the real surprise was how seamlessly a space opera was added into the story. I never thought I’d see a lunar shuttle chase, but I’m glad I did.
The amount of casual sci-fi world building in the film is staggering, with entire premises treated as banal. We get to see Pitt’s Clifford McBride travel from Earth to the Moon mundanely on a commercial flight. Most films would take the opportunity to spoon feed to the audience why this is odd, but Ad Astra treats it as normal as the characters do, making it all the more fascinating.
2. The Farewell

Starring Awkwafina, who has quickly shot to stardom after featuring in Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell gives the actress the chance to stretch her dramatic muscles playing Billi, who returns to China to visit with her grandmother who has cancer. Billi’s family insists on keeping the grandmother’s illness a secret from her so she can live out her life in happiness, while Billi struggles with the morals of lying to her grandmother. This premise allows for not only the comedy of misunderstanding, a staple in comedy, but also emotional tension and the devastation of preparing to send off a loved one.
The comedy-drama balance is handled expertly by director Lulu Wang, making The Farewell the movie I both cried at and laughed at the most this year.
1. Parasite
Tumblr media
Had you told me a couple of months ago that my picking Parasite as the best movie of the year could be considered a safe choice, I would have scoffed. Yet here we are, and Parasite has widely been hailed as the best film of the year. I suppose in hindsight it’s not hard to see why. It’s both a crowd-pleasing film and a film that’s deeply disturbing and thrilling.
After having seen Bong Joon-ho’s last five movies, one would be forgiven for expecting a linearity in Parasite. Most of his films tend to have a point A to point B element with an expected (though often subverted) outcome. Heck, Snowpiercer is about a group of people moving from the back of the train to the front, one car at a time. Yet Parasite is different. The film sets up a premise you only find out about as it happens and is quickly overturned once you’re comfortable with it.
I saw this movie the same day I saw Joker and the difference in how the subject matter of class is treated is stark. Whereas Joker wanted to go all dark and Taxi Driver with the theme, Parasite had fun with it and let the elements of drama, comedy, and horror slide along the theme of class.
Like Bong’s Memories of Murder, Parasite will be one of those films I endlessly revisit.
Honourable Mentions
Films that almost cracked the Top 10 that I wanted to shout out here are Us and Doctor Sleep for being really solid, exciting, horror-thrillers. As well as The Irishman for being a classic Scorcese film that gives De Niro and Pacino ample time to with each other. Finally, I wanted to applaud Avengers: Endgame for not only managing to pull off such an ambitious finale, but to make it so goddamned fun.
2020
This year I’m looking forward to new blockbusters from two of my favourite directors, Christoper Nolan and Denis Villeneuve - Tenet and Dune, respectively.
Despite the stumble with Spectre, I’m extremely excited for Daniel Craig’s last outing as Bond with No Time to Die, by auteur Cary Fukunaga. I can’t wait to see how his style meshes with the Bond template.
Also of great interest are the new films from David Fincher and Edgar Wright - Mank and Last Night in Soho.

My  Thoughts on FFH
Yap, a little late, but I need to recollect my thought on FFH by rewatching it :P
I’m separating my indepth review for the Spideychelle scenes, cause that might be already very long by it’s own
so, beware of long post, under the cut
totally love how FFH was delivered. A bit dissapointed that we didn’t get to see how Peter prepared for his vacation. I mean, I could sit for 3 hours to watch depressing movie (cough-Endgame-cough), sure I will be able to sit another 3 hours long of an action packed- super funny- and also akward fluffy- movie such as FFH. Sometimes, I feel this movie is a little bit fast paced, but at the end, I didn’t regret what Jon Watts made for us. And the actor-actress also didn’t exagerated when they said that this movie is much bigger, much action packed, much funnier, and much fluffier, than the first one.
totally love FFH!
what I like:
Peter trying hard to move on, and live his ‘teenager’ life as ‘normal’ as possible. This message was delivered through out the movie, and Tom’s acting is awesome!
Ned being a supportive BFF, and eventhough reluctant to be Peter’s wingman, he still did it. And as good karma always return the favor, he managed to enjoy his vacation the fullest, with his girlfriend Betty. :) I love how he sometimes feels bad for ‘leaving’ Peter and enjoying himself, but he did tried his best to be the ‘man in the chair’.
MJ!! oh, totally love how Zendaya played her. She has so many layers in her character development, but as an anime lover, we can always resume her character in one term: Tsundere. She’s a tsundere allright!! XD a very smart - love a dark humor- tsundere. I’m totally in love with her. Great job, Ms. Z!!
Now, there’s a say that ‘a movie is just as good as its villain’. Perhaps. But I must say, I totally love Mysterio character. Now I understand why Jake Gyllenhaal was casted to play this MCU Mysterio. I didn’t actually read the comic book, so I only assume, but from what information I read through the internet, Mysterio was an “always failure in a funny way” type of villain. I’m glad MCU writter decided to give so many layers to this character. He’s smart, he’s ambitious, he’s vengeful, he planned and rehearsed thouroughly all his ‘play’, a great ‘con man’ that able to manipulate his ‘prey’ so subtly that the ‘prey’ didn’t feel manipulated, plus he has mental instability, but he didn’t want to use brute force unnecessarily.
Did anyone noticed that the ‘illusion’ that Mysterio used on Peter, only been used after Mysterio knew that his lies was blown? At first, he didn’t want to hurt Peter. He guided Peter away to things Peter’s want, after Mysterio get what he want. Mysterio want revenge to Tony Stark, not his child, and he acknowledge that ‘the parent’s mistake are not their childrens’. But, because Peter now know Mysterio was a fraud, he need to be removed. At the drones attack sequences, several times, we see that Mysterio feel contended to just: drop Peter to the bridge bellow his stage, slammed Peter with a car and dropped him to the river, build a drone fortress so Peter won’t be able to come closer. At the end, after Peter already ruined all of his defence, then he went to his last resort: tried to shoot Peter’s head.
Mysterio is also very observant. Did anyone noticed the sequences of illusions was actually all of things that he learnt from Peter himself?? Peter’s guilt and mourn of Tony’s death, his likeness to MJ, his plan to take MJ to the top of eiffel tower, his doubt of his own spider power/that he’s not good enough to step up as an avenger, and untill the very end, that Peter really care about his identity be kept a secret. Mysterio use all that, to manipulate Peter’s senses, and even there’s illusion inside illusions, mini illusions here and there. I am blown away!!
Clearly this illusion sequences are one of my favourite scenes in the movie. It was executed beautifully!! Great job CGI teams!!
Other things that blown me away?? The action sequences! Totally love the action choreography. We did see how agile Peter is. Jumping, twisting mid air, flipping here and there, running, etc. Beautiful!
My top favourite action sequence is of course, the climax battle against the drones. Seeing Spider-Man showing off his agility, jumping here and there, web placements, and even make up a temporary grenades from scraps?? Awesome!! And of course don’t forget the time where Peter activated his spidey senses, or Peter tingle. When the bgm suddenly went silent.... Peter closes his eyes.... then.... wham ... wham wham!! Oh gosh!! That’s one heck of a choreography! Again... I’m blown away! Mr. Tom, your stunts are amazing!!
I also like how happy Peter was shown at the ending. Happily swinging around NY, doing so many different way of swinging. Shouting with glee when gliding.... this boy just got everything right, he’s in his hometown, and he’s happy. And I’m happy too! Well... until the mid credit scene that make my jaw dropped.
Not only the sequence itself where Peter’s cover was blown.... but the appearance of J. Jonah Jameson, played by non other than JK Simmons!! I was so excited! Even though he was always at the opposite side of Spider Man, the world of Spider Man felt incomplete without him. And there’s no other actor can played him perfectly than JK Simmons. YAY!!
Peter’s interaction with Happy was also a highlight in this movie. Both were devastated by Tony’s death, and now Happy feels obligated to take care of Peter too. Take care in an actual ‘butler’ type of take care. He’s like Jarvis to Tony. Happy also has gone softer in FFH. And his relations with Aunt May, just emphasized that. :D
A little bit disappointed because there’s not enough Aunt May....
But all in all... FFH is definitely my top favourite MCU movies and favourite Spider-Man movies up untill now. :)
#wow... now that’s so very long post ^^; If you managed to be at the end of my ramblings.... thank you very much!

Exclusive Interview with Actor and Musician Quincy Fouse
Tumblr media
Musician and actor Quincy Fouse just dropped a new music video for his single, “I Know”. I got the chance to talk to him about how Hugh Jackman pushed him to start making and releasing music, his single “I Know”, what it was like shooting his first ever official music video for this single and so much more! Keep reading to see what he had to say!
Tumblr media
Tell me a little bit about how you first got into making and performing music.
Okay, this is a good story. I was actually on set for my first movie Logan and I was beatboxing on set. I used to beatbox a lot in high school and I used to do a bunch of indie shows around my hometown. So Hugh Jackman hears me beatboxing and then he asked me, “Are you making anything?” And I was like, “Nah. I’m just having fun on set.” And he goes, “Well you know will.i.am produced most of the beats on the ‘I’ve Got a Feeling’ track while he was working on set with [me]. Maybe you should look into that.” We went on hiatus, I got a computer, I downloaded Logic and was looking up how to produce. So ever since then, I’ve just been producing music and then I got back into writing and rapping and it just kind of snowballed from there.
So making music and releasing it was never something you actually thought about until Hugh Jackman told you that it’s something you should consider.
Literally yes. I was just kind of chasing the feeling with acting. So I had just gotten used to the fact that acting was something that I could really live off of and then Hugh was like, “You should produce music” and I was like, “Okay” [laughs].
That’s so funny. I know you use the stage name Soul Fro when you release your music. What made you want to use a stage name and why Soul Fro?
[laughs] Well when I was in high school, I was kind of a really shy kid and when I started beatboxing – I guess I can’t say when I started beatboxing because I had been beatboxing my whole life – but so when high school [classmates] got a whiff of what I could do, I noticed I got people’s attention and I made people feel good and people would come out and start rapping while I was beatboxing. I kind of just became this kid with an afro that beatboxed in high school. I believe there was some upperclassmen who named me Soul Fro and it just stuck. I was like, “You know what, I’m going to make this work.” Now since then, the name itself has received a lot more meaning from me just because it’s kind of one of the first markers of me coming into my own self-confidence in high school. So music Quincy will be [known as] Soul Fro.
Gotcha. Something I’m always genuinely curious about is what artists want to convey to listeners with their music. If you had to describe the music you create without using genre names, how would you describe it?
I’d describe it as love in a vibe. I think when I make the beat and I build a chord, I’m looking for this feeling of being carried by the music; then, when I write, I’m just expressing the truth that’s on my heart. And all of that, in the process of essentially writing away and being my whole self, that’s what I define to be the equation of loving oneself.
Very cool. Kind of going off of that, who are some of your musical influences?
My biggest ones – and I’ve got millions – are Childish Gambino for sure and then Erykah Badu. Growing up, I’d say beatboxing was the first thing I did to get confidence, but the sparking moment that led me to even attempt to believe in myself to do these indie shows was watching Donald Glover on Community and seeing how weird and how awkward he can be in his comedy but still have a successful and secure place in society. I’ve been listening to Erykah Badu’s music and there’s always something so comforting and something that reminded you that you’re home within this breadth of culture in her sound. So both of those things coming together just kind of really defined my vibe of inspiring the kids that were like me and then also just giving that sense of love that isn’t finite to that kid.
Gotcha. So let’s talk about this new single, “I Know”. What’s the story behind that song? What inspired it?
The story behind that song, I was just working in LA and I met this girl. She was amazing. I was in the moment of falling for her, but knowing that I didn’t really have a destination and I didn’t really have a concrete place of wanting something for us together. I didn’t necessarily want to marry her. I’m too young for that. But I wanted her; I wanted her in so many ways and I just started writing and essentially just talking to her [through the song]. “I don’t know what exactly I want but I feel like you got it, whatever it is.” Just that place of confusion and yearning.
What was your songwriting process like for this song? Was it something that came pretty easily to you or is it something you kept coming back to and working on?
I literally wrote that thing in one day. It was just that intimate conversation. That’s why there isn’t a second verse. I just kind of used my producing chops to give some color to the rest of the song because that was just really authentic. It was straight from the heart and it was a message to her.
In general, though, when you write, do you tend to write by yourself or are you someone who likes collaborating with other artists in co-writes?
Oh I mean if I’m featuring on another song, we definitely sit down together. I create with my brother Darin Blaine Wilkens and then my other brother Colah, whose name is Noah Alexander Gary. I was recently featured on their newest album, How Was Your Day?. But yeah, when I’m writing with those guys for a feature on their music, we definitely talk with each other to make sure that we have the cause of the song down. If someone writes verse and it kind of goes against the message of the song, then we will all work together to kind of alter it. But other than that, if I’m working on a standalone project or it’s my song, then I’m writing the verses myself.
So for “I Know”, were there any major changes that happened once you got into the studio, whether it be in the lyrics or something sonically?
Nah. No. It was all pretty straightforward. And because I produced the beat for “I Know” as well. So right after I made the beat, sitting there in the studio session – I like to have like my family around me as I’m making stuff just because sitting in love makes me perform better – so while I’m sitting there, I make the beat, they’re like, “Oh that’s hot” and I just started writing the song. It’s one of the perks of being the producer and the lyricist and the performer.
I know you also shot a music video for this song. What was that experience like?
It was so dope. I worked with my good friend Barry Galperin, who is the director, and he created the music video for me. I called him up after the song came out and I was like, “Look man. I know that you kind of process art the same way that I do and I know that you could hit this feeling. Can we work together?” And he was like, “Sure.” It was so great because we were so in sync the entire time, so it was a beautiful experience.
Was that your first time shooting a music video or had you shot other ones prior?
No, that’s my first music video. I’ve shot little promos before. But yeah, that was my first official music video.
Tumblr media
Was it everything you thought it’d be or was it completely different than what you thought it be?
Oh it was amazing. I think for me, I never have a template of an expectation. I have more of a specific goal or something to accomplish rather than expecting any type of experience. So when I just got on set and saw that we were accomplishing each little goal, you look at the end product and it just kind of made sense. But it was definitely beautiful all throughout the process and that’s something I definitely take away from the experience.
In terms of new music, what’s on the horizon for you? What are you working on?
[laughs] OK. I recently just sort of hinted at this on my Instagram so I can talk about it now, but I have a single that I wrote with Kaylee Bryant and she plays Josie on my show, Legacies. I wrote a little ditty for season one and we talked to Legacies and they let me keep the rights to it so I can make a song. So I’ve just kind of like expanded upon that scene and we’ll be releasing that.
Other than that, I have a couple of other singles that I got coming out and I’m going to be re-releasing my first album Soul Space. I had to make a few little edits to that and I also wanted to add a bonus track to it. Then, after that, I have a prospective future album called Son of the Ronin and that’s the album that I’m getting ready to go work on and kind of delve into the magnum opus of sorts.
Very cool. You’ve got a lot music wise coming up.
[Laughs] Yeah, I do.
What are some of your music industry related goals for your career over the next couple of years?
Like I said, I’m very goal oriented so I kind of stay away from the template of “I want to take over the game and be the best rapper ever” blah, blah, blah. I want to be able to just do live performances where the audience knows the words to my songs. And I just want to be able to express myself honestly. That’s pretty much the one mark that I want to hit. As far as the ascension and the gears that are the entertainment business, you know we’ll deal with it when we get there.
Last question – our website is called Talk Nerdy With Us because we all have an inner nerd, so what is something you are currently nerding out about?
Something I am currently nerding out about is Miles Morales in general because that’s always been like a dream role of mine [laughs]. I fantasize about that character, man. So I’m excited to watch the new Spider-Man coming out and I wonder if you can expect like maybe he’s in there; that would be really fun to see.
