@steddielovemonth Day 24: Love is the only thing we can take with us.

Steve looked around his room, it would be the last time he did. He could hear his parents still arguing downstairs. He knew he didn't have a lot of time, soon he'd hear his father's footsteps coming up the stairs.
"You're no son of mine!"
Steve hadn't felt like his son in a long time anyway. When he thought of dads he thought of Hopper at his graduation or Wayne watching the game with him. He'd called Hopper, Dad, when he woke up in the hospital and saw the previously dead police chief at his bedside. No, Steve Harrington hadn't been Richard Harrington's son in a long time.
He knew he didn't have much time, but he'd been planning for this moment, the day they would find out. It was inevitable, small town, nosy neighbours. Steve kept his room impersonal for a reason, it wouldn't last forever. Kneeling quickly he grabbed his box, it was all he would need.
The clothes he actually liked wearing weren't in this closet anymore, the beemer had always been in his name. Nothing else in the house mattered but this box. The last piece of Steve in these four walls.
"Steven?"
He'd asked her to call him Steve all his life, she didn't.
"Can't you see what you're doing to your mother?"
Maria Harrington hadn't been Steve's mother in a long time. Mothers were there for their kids when they woke up from nightmares. Claudia never judged when he woke up screaming on the couch. A true mother looked after their son when he was sick in bed, soup and comfort and love. Joyce brought him soup last winter, when the flu had him stuck in bed, he didn't even call, she just knew.
"I know, I'm leaving now."
"Please, Steven, there are places we can go to fix you," she cried. Mothers don't think their kid's heart needs fixing.
"You were supposed to be a real man!" Richard yelled as he passed him down the stairs. Fathers are proud of their sons growing into protectors and carers.
"This will never be your home again!" Was the last thing Steve heard as he closed his car door and placed the small box on the passenger seat. Parents always have a home waiting for you, even when they think you're wrong.
"Steve?"
Wayne is the first one to spot him as he arrives at the trailer. It's sunday, family dinner at the rotating family table. Tonight was meant to be at the Munsons.
"Steve, honey? You ok?" Joyce is the first one to touch him, worry in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, son." Hopper is the first one to read his teary eyes like a book. They all knew where he'd been.
Claudia gingerly took the box from him, "I'll put this in your room, sweetheart, let Eddie know you're back home."
Steve could hear the kids yelling around the picnic table outside; could smell dinner cooking. Robins laughter piercing though the air and Eddie's boombox playing loudly.
"Baby?"
There he was.
"Hey, Eds, think we'll have to move up that moving date, if it's ok?"
Eddie's features softened from worry to sympathy, "Course, sunshine, although I'm still surprised Joyce and Hop didn't kidnap you months ago.
Later, when he'd given everyone hugs goodbye, some were a bit tighter than others, he sat on the bed with his box.
"You wanna unpack that alone, or want help?"
"You can look, it's not a secret, just special," Steve replied, patting the space next to him. Eddie plopped himself down beside his boyfriend, lifting the lid.
Inside was a mess of bits and pieces. Eddie reached in and took out a stack of photos. Steve at his graduation, a big smile with Hopper's arm around his shoulders, Dustin beaming beside him. Robin putting Steve in a headlock at the quarry last summer, he refuses to say he let her win. Eddie at his first show back, scars on full display. And countless other memories.
There were also little toys from the arcade and pebbles and ticket stubs and letters and a full life story of one Steve Harrington told through the love of his family.
"This was all I went back to get, all I needed. Wasn't expecting them to know about you already, but I knew they'd find out one day. Couldn't let them have this, not after they spent so long trying to take my heart from me."
"I think it's high time we clear some space around here for all this, Stevie, time to let your love be out on full display."
When Steve fell asleep that night, wrapped in the arms of a boy who went to hell from him and staring at the new photos on the wall, he truly felt home.

๑ keep safe : robin and [name] make a good team! (22)
Tumblr media
one piece x male reader
the frost,
it looks like dust
settled on the world.
after everyone's been long gone.
『 prev 』
when they reached jaya island, it was a shock to all of the crew at the state of the island. it seemed as if there were pirates freely roaming the entire town. [name] decided to stay back on the ship. he usually loved going on adventures with luffy on new islands, but he still wanted to talk more with robin.
the captain didn’t seem pleased with this answer, though, huffing and puffing in annoyance.
“what?! come on, [naame]! just come with us! let’s go! let’s go!!!”
[name] sighed at the incessant yelling, but shook his head, “just go ahead, luffy, i’ll maybe go walking around later? just go ahead, find more information,”
“bu-but!”
“luffy, let’s go already! i need to drill it into your head that you can’t go around fighting people,” nami chided in, dragging luffy by his ear and off of the ship. the captain grunted at the pain, but [name] ignored it and instead went to find robin.
as zoro, nami, and luffy got off of the ship, [name] went to find robin. she was already awaiting him, though, a pleasant smile on her face.
“are you ready? where are we going?” he asked eagerly, holding his arm out to her for her to take. she seemed taken aback for a moment at the gesture, but she hooked her arm with his. the two hopped off of the ship (before sanji could realize and stop them) and walked through the main center.
”well, i need to buy clothes because i can’t keep taking nami’s clothes,” robin chuckled behind her hand, looking at the boutiques. then she turned slightly more serious, “i think some more information is also needed, just in case.”
[name] hummed in agreement, having a feeling that even though nami was with them — luffy and zoro were going to get side tracked and not find any information.
so they walked through the town, [name] dutifully taking ahold of robin’s shopping bags. he was used to carrying all the belongings on shopping trips anyway thanks to nami, so he didn’t complain at all.
“wow! robin, purple is your color!” [name] said stars in his eyes, “you look really pretty,”
she chuckled at his compliment, thanking him quietly as she looked in the mirror. the only thing missing was an accessory. as if reading her mind, [name] took a hat off of the rack nearby and plopped it onto her head. with a proud grin, he announced that her look was complete.
“you look cool!” he said, a thumbs up being thrown right in front of robin’s face.
“thanks, i’ll wear this one now and buy extra clothes for our journeys,” she said, going back to change into her previously worn clothes so she could properly pay for the outfit she was wearing. when they finally did pay, though, she changed right away and now wore the purple two piece.
“wait! they have a food stand! robin, robin, let’s go! let’s go!” he excitedly said, dragging her by the wrist to the small place. they had a counter and stools set up so that patrons could just eat outside. inside the small shack, there was a chef who was preparing noodles. “do you want anything, robin?”
“i would like an order of gyoza,” she said simply, looking at the man behind the counter. he gave her a polite smile and then turned to the man for his order.
“an order of spicy tonkatsu ramen please! and then three more orders of gyoza! oh! and pork buns, please and thank you!”
the chef looked taken aback by the mass amounts of food they were ordering and got to work right away.
“do you have enough beri to pay for this meal, [name]?” robin gently asked, making the man frantically turn to his wallet. he used his figure to hide him shuffling through his belongings, as if he were embarassed. but then he turned to her with a wide grin and a thumbs up.
“don’t worry about it, robin! i’ve got just enough!” he said, beckoning her to take a seat, “let’s sit back and relax and then we can get more information! did you know there’s a saying that, before any big adventure you need to eat to your heart’s content!”
robin decided to take his word for it and took a seat next to him, resting her cheek on her hand as she observed him eagerly waiting for food.
“so, how did you meet luffy?” she asked after looking at him for a few seconds.
“i’ve been stuck with him since we were kids,” [name] grinned, “grew up on the same island, along with two others,”
robin hummed in interest, “and one of those was portgas d. ace?”
“mhm!!”
“you know, i was surprised to see you on board their ship at whiskey peak. all of our intel pointed to you simply residing in whiskey peak, not being apart of the straw hat crew. that was certainly a shock when you were on board,” [name] grinned sheepishly at robin, scratching the back of his head in embarassment.
then he bowed his head ever so slightly, “i’m sorry for threatening you that day!”
this only incited laughter from her, “no, it’s alright. what’s in the past is in the past,” then there was a pause before she continued, “speaking of, what do you plan on doing when the past catches up to you, [name]?”
“i intend on fighting,” [name] easily answered, as if he knew she would ask that question, “i’m not letting myself get seperated from luffy, and now the others, ever again.”
she looked at him, a complex expression on her face. she was amused with how confident [name] was in declaring his battle with whoever chased him. but deep down, she also felt doubt in his abilities. the enemies [name] has, it was a wonder if he would really be able to fight them all off.
“this includes you, too.” he said, breaking her out of her train of thought, “i’m not stupid, i know that we both have our enemies — who are looking for us, wanting to kill us.”
he turned his body to her, shocking her slightly with how serious and heartfelt he seemed to be. his eyes were dead set on staring right into her soul and his shoulders were squared, as if he were trying to impose on her by seeming intimidating — another thing he was doing to show how serious he was.
“i’ll kill anyone that tries ruining luffy’s crew,” [name] said with an unimpressed look on his face, “since you’re now apart of the crew — no matter who comes for you, i’ll fight them,”
she got over her shock in a couple of seconds, smiling softly, “there will be no need for that,” was her only response, making [name] deflate in confusion. just as he was about to question her, though, four orders of gyoza were placed on the counter in front of them.
[name] got knocked out of his confused stupor and instead jumped at the sight of the food. robin slid over the one plate for herself and began eating in a very reserved manner whilst [name] seemed to be scarfing down as much food as possible, acting as if it would run away.
an interesting thing [name] did, though, was whenever robin would finish eating one gyoza, the man would place another on her plate without questions. as if he was replenishing her food after each consumption.
“[name], i think you’ve given away more food than eaten,” she said, looking at him as he continued shoving food into his mouth. “please, i’m already full enough, you don’t have-”
“but it’s too good not to share! it’s crispy, i like when my gyoza is crispy!” he said, stars in his eyes as he swallowed down his food. his eyes sparkled as he showed her a gyoza dumpling on the end of his chopsticks, “take one more!”
she was going to refuse, but seeing him smile so innocently in his offering made her take the gyoza into her mouth, nodding to him in thanks. she covered her mouth with her hand, chewing slowly as she watched [name] devour the rest of his food.
the pork buns came out next and [name] tried to get her to eat one of them, but she adamantly refused — especially since she could see how eager he was to eat them. and when he finished eating the beginning dishes, they continued in small conversation.
“i’m still confused, though,” [name] hummed, wiping the crumbs off of his face with a napkin, “why did you want to join luffy’s crew?”
“there was nowhere else for me to go,” robin simply answered, “as i said when i first came on board, i had no more reason to be in alabasta and you guys were the perfect way to get out.”
“so what do you want to achieve now that you’re on the crew?” [name] inquired, “hm, actually, i don’t care.”
she blinked several times before tilting her head in interest, just as she was going to ask what he meant by that, he cut her off, “what you do now doesn’t really matter because the crew is all here to support you. whatever your dream is — go for it!! i’m here to make sure everyone is able to achieve their dreams!”
[name] was truly remarkable, was robin’s takeaway. just as that thought passed through her mind, she watched him slurp noodles down at inhuman speeds and drink the broth from the bowl as if he hadn’t just eaten a big enough meal for a family of four.
“oh! while we are here, old man! do you know anything about a sky island?” [name] brashly asked the chef, whose expression turned into one of shock the moment the question left his lips. “so? do you?”
robin carefully watched the reaction, already predicting what he might have said in response.
“i don’t know anything about sky islands!” the old man shouted, seemingly scared of the question. “if you really want answers to those questions, go bother someone in the bar! but only if you want to seek some sort of trouble! things like sky islands aren’t real, they don’t exist! and it’d be best to watch what you say about them next time!”
[name] blinked owlishly at the sudden hostility, swallowing the broth in one big gulp and standing up from his seat, “well, thanks, old man! here! this should be enough!” a couple of beri were thrown onto the desk, as well as some gold coins and then robin and [name] left the restaurant.
“he was so angry for no reason,” [name] said in a childish tone, “couldn’t have been more rude!”
robin chuckled, shrugging her shoulders, “we were able to get something out of him though — including a good meal. can’t really complain,”
“hm, i guess. thanks to him, now we can properly get some information, since i’m all full!” [name] turned into the nearest pub, which seemed to be one of many on the street, and robin followed in after him. without waiting another second, he shouted, “give us information on sky island!”
everyone in the bar stilled, looking at [name] and robin with wide eyes. and then, as if they were on a cue of some sort, they all started howlishly laughing. [name] frowned, not enjoying the feeling of being laughed at and looked at robin, as if non-verbally asking if it was alright to beat them up.
she didn’t acknowledge his gaze, simply walking up to a table and looking down at the patron, “you look like you would know something. is there any information you can give us on sky island?”
the man gulped, feeling intimidated by her piercing blue eyes. however, he answered in a rude tone, “no! that crap isn’t even real! it’s all just dreams odd people like yourselves like to make up!”
another chorus of laughter and then the man continued on to talk directly to robin, “how about you quit wasting your time with that kid back there and join us instead? we won’t make you chase dead dreams,” he grinned devilishly, bringing a hand up to touch robin’s waist.
[name], who was standing right over robin’s shoulder, eyed the limb in disinterest and then looked to robin. as he assumed, she easily took care of it. a hand had sprouted from the table, right in front of the man, and grabbed him by the collar to slam his face into the wood.
with an unimpressed gaze, she beckoned him to answer the question once more. he was now obviously scared, his voice shaking. everyone around them was put into an alarmed state, standing up with their weapons drawn as they threatened the two of them.
“unhand him now! or else there will be blood shed!!”
“don’t mess with us, woman! we don’t care if you’re a woman, we’ll beat you up!!”
[name] groaned at the threats, waving his hand and making their bodies still, “don’t be so quick to violence! guys, you just need to answer our simple question.”
seeing as the scene was now getting more tense, the bartender stepped in with a piece of paper in his hand, “i don’t want you two causing my business anymore trouble! take this with you and make do with it whatever you want! don’t make me force you guys out of here!”
a piece of paper fluttered in front of [name]’s vision and he grabbed it quickly to examine it, “what’s this supposed to be?”
“a map of this island! there’s a guy that might be able to tell you what you want to hear. montblanc cricket! he’s a freak and outcast! raving on about the same thing you guys are, unattainable dreams! now get the hell out of here!”
robin gently guided [name] to walk out of the bar with her, finally releasing the poor man she was holding hostage. but as she was dragging [name] off, he was still steadily glaring at all the patrons that were looking at them as if they were crazy.
“assholes,” he said under his breath, looking at the map with squinted eyes.
“at least we have a lead, it sounds like the people in this town are used to questions about the sky islands. and because of that, they’ve begun hating the idea of it ever being real — so they ridicule those that are coming in and asking for more information,” robin analyzed, making [name] roll his eyes. not at her words, but at the point she was making.
“how childish,” he groaned, finding the entire town they were in less facisnating now and more annoying, “well, whatever, let’s just get back to merry. hopefully, luffy, nami, and zoro are alright,”
and opposite to what he had hoped, the three of them were rather shaken up. or, it’d be more appropriate to say: luffy and zoro were beaten up to a pulp while nami was simmering in anger that was enough to scare chopper into his “guard point.”
“how could you just let those guys beat you up?” [name] sighed, sitting in front of luffy and examining his injuries. the captain pouted, not liking the tone [name] was taking with him.
“you wouldn’t get it,” luffy retorted, a carefree smile on his face, “they don’t matter anyway,”
“still, you and zoro took a beating for, what looks like, no reason.”
“quit babying us, it wasn’t even that bad — the guys were weak.”
[name] rolled his eyes, looking to nami for answers, but instead the woman was looking at him in fury, “this is all your guys’ fault!” she pointed two fingers at him and robin, “this all happened because you started talking about that sky island — especially you [name]! i can’t forgive you!”
feeling the heat of nami’s anger literally radiating off of her, [name] took a step back with a placid smile, “i don’t know what you mean by that…but i’m sorry, i think!!”
“if it doesn’t exist, i’m sending both of you to the graves!”
behind nami’s screaming figure was chopper jumping into the ocean out of fear. zoro quickly followed after him.
usopp butted in, looking in between [name] and robin, “ahh, leave her alone for now! or, better yet, just don’t get close to her!”
“well, let’s turn the frown right upside down, nami!” [name] exclaimed, jumping onto the upper deck and pressing his pointer fingers into the corners of her mouth, “because me and robin have some great news! it’s gonna make your entire day!”
nami’s eye twitched as she allowed [name] to force her mouth into an uncomfortable smile. and she spoke through gritted teeth, “what could you possibly do to make this situation better?”
“ooh! a treasure map!” luffy shouted in excitement, making [name] turn his head to see robin used her powers in showing off what they had found.
and since [name]’s e/c eyes were no longer watching nami, she used that to her advantage and placed a heavy slap on his cheek. but he just smiled as he rubbed the now sore cheek, giving her a thumbs up, “see? do you feel better?!”
“shut up, moron!” she growled in annoyance, stomping off and going to look at the map herself.
no matter how helpful or reliable [name] has proved himself to be, he will always be such a reckless, hardheaded, acting before thinking dumbass! nami thought to herself.
robin explained the significance of the map and what it would lead the crew to. due to how effective she was in getting information, sanji twirled over to her and proposed making her coffee as a reward. [name] heard him and ran over, latching onto him.
“make me some too! make me some too!!!” he shouted in the chef’s ear, who only looked at him in grand annoyance.
“fine! fine, get off me already so i can make it,” sanji said, throwing [name] off of his shoulder and stomping into the kitchen. as he was walking in, rolling up his sleeves, he was audibly complaining about [name]’s request and how demanding he was.
and as [name] waited, he decided to hang out on the deck with usopp, chopper, and luffy. it was all relatively calm as their course was now off of the rambunctious part of the island, but they still managed to run into some trouble.
it looked like a monkey, again, but [name] wasn’t really listening to all he was saying. he only really began paying attention when the creature started screaming into some sort of mic.
the sonar waves it produced were harming merry, a lot. he grit his teeth, jumping into action and running to the repaired portion of the ship and holding onto the wood so it wouldn’t fly away.
the rest of the crew worked on how to get away from the sonar waves while he was desperately holding merry together.
“this poor ship! holy shit, when will she catch a break?” [name] cursed under his breath, stomping his foot down on a wooden plank to stop it from flying out from right under him.
when they were finally a safe distance away, the crew all joined in repairing the damage. sanji sauntered out of the kitchen, telling [name] the excuse he had for not repairing the ship, “a chef’s hands should not be sullied by disgusting work like this, there’s fault for injury everywhere you look,”
“just say you don’t know how to do these tasks and be on your way,” [name] teased, taking a loud sip of the coffee.
”be more mannerly when drinking! i don’t wanna hear your disgusting slurping!” sanji shouted, stomping away from [name] and going to deliver the coffee to robin.
with the cup resting by [name]’s side, he continued hammering on new wooden planks onto merry. he was working on the mast with zoro, who was using iron plates to reinforce the ship.
“merry has taken a lot of damage. isn’t it about time we replace her?” zoro asked gruffly, working hard in getting the iron to form to the shape of the mast.
this comment made usopp turn around in anger and shout about how ungrateful zoro was, “don’t you know where we got this ship?! you were there, you know how important this ship is!!”
[name] peaked around the cylindrical mast and tilted his head, “where’d you guys get merry?”
usopp puffed out his chest in pride, “a dear friend of mine gave it to us as a gift after i, the great captain usopp, saved my home village from a terrible crew of pirates. i was the one that singlehandedly defeated all of them and so she gave us going merry as a thank you, and parting gift!”
“wow! so luffy defeated all of them?” [name] asked, knocking his hand against his open palm.
“do you not listen when people are talking?! i just said i am the one that did all the fighting and winning!!” usopp cried out in great offense.
“oh! right, so what i said — luffy defeated all of them?” [name] repeated, this time a smirk on his lips as he saw usopp about to charge at him with his hammer.
his assumptions were corrected and now he was running in circles around the mast, laughing as he saw usopp violently swinging around the hammer. suddenly, he skidded to a stop and tackled usopp to the ground by his waist.
“prepare for death, liar!!” he shouted, a mischevious smile on his face. usopp, who accepted his fate, rested still on the ground as if he were already dead. and just as [name] was going to slam down the hammer onto usopp’s face (he wasn’t really going to, but it would have been hilarious), zoro stepped in and kicked [name] in the face.
“can you just focus for once and not fool around?!” the greenhead shouted in annoyance, teeth and eyes sharpened in anger.
“now you, stupid marimo, prepare for death!” [name] said, jumping off of usopp and onto zoro. the two fell to the ground in a wrestling match, the h/c haired man laughing in joy whilst zoro was cursing him out.
and as the two continued on fighting, luffy reassured usopp that they wouldn’t be replacing merry — she was a crew member as well! but just as he finished saying that, he completely wrecked one of her repaired walls and sent the bits and pieces of wood falling into the ocean.
the only thing that broke up zoro and [name]’s fighting was nami, who announced to the rest of the crew that their journey was finished and they were arriving at their destination.
“and you two — stop trying to kill each other already!”
zoro’s hair was all messed up and his face was sweating, the clothes on his torso ripped and torn. [name]’s face was sporting a couple of bruises and he too was having trouble gaining his breath back. at nami’s comment, they backed off of one another, but were still glaring daggers at each other.
“wow!! so cool!!” luffy, usopp, and chopper cried out at the same time.
in front of them was an enormous castle, but [name] squinted his eyes at it in suspicion.
”guys, that’s not a real castle, it’s just a painted wooden cutout to look like one,” his sentence single handedly crushed their dreams, causing luffy to shout in disappointment and chopper to drop his jaw at how easily he was fooled.
“this guy seems like a cheapskate,” sanji said while blowing out a puff of smoke. [name] came bounding over with a mischevious grin and sanji sighed before he placed the stick to rest inside [name]’s lips. and he gently pulled it away when the man blew out his own smoke.
“did you see that, sanji? i did a ring!”
“why are you doing childish tricks with this, idiot?” sanji scolded, looking at [name] in disapproval, “hold on — is that why my packs are running out faster than usual? you’re stealing some to practice stupid shapes?!”
“what- no! i would never do that!!” [name] said, so obviously lying with the way guilt was painted right across his face.
“at least be less obvious about it!” sanji shouted, shoving the cigarette into [name]’s mouth by a means of choking him.
and just like that, as [name] and zoro’s fight ended, sanji and [name]’s started. the two were now colorfully cursing each other out, taking drags of the cigarette in between each insult.
after the crew all jumped off of the ship and onto land, they all decided to investigate the terrain. [name] made a taunting face at sanji before rushing off with chopper.
[name] watched in amusement as chopper turned into his bigger form and started digging, in search of nami’s gold. he was sitting on a cut up trunk of a tree, cheering on chopper’s activity as a means of encouraging him.
“oh, this is a picture book!” nami said, a sort of childlike glee in her voice as she picked it up, “it’s called “noland the liar!””
“ha! that’s a good title! what a cool story idea,” usopp praised, a look of pride on his face — as if he were the one who wrote the book.
“noland the liar?” sanji said, his interest piqued at the familiar title.
“you know it, sanji-kun? but it says it was published in the north blue,” nami commented, eyebrows furrowed.
“yeah, i was born in the north blue! haven’t i told you guys?” sanji grinned, looking at the book with a glint in his eyes.
“that’s a cute expression, sanji,” [name] commented before turning to the book in interest as well. the said blonde began cursing [name] out for even saying such a thing to him, but the words were drowned out anyway. “wait, i’ve seen this book too,”
“what? are you from the north blue too? i thought you guys were from the east blue, this is news to me,” usopp asked in confusion, hands on his hips as he tilted his head in thought.
“no, i’m not from the north blue,” a fond smile graced [name]’s features as he took the book from nami and flipped through the pages, “but i had a dear friend that was from there — he even had a copy of this book! that’s why i recognize it,”
“wow! you have friends all the way in the north blue!” usopp said in astonishment.
“well, i don’t know if i met him in the north blue, but he’s definitely not there anymore. he’s a pirate himself, he had the copy on his ship,” [name] shrugged, looking at the child book and smiling at the memories.
“wait?! you sailed with another pirate crew before us?!” nami shouted in disbelief, eyes wide as she invaded [name]’s personal space.
”only for a couple of months! it wasn’t the biggest deal!” [name] laughed, patting her cheek, “nami, i’m all yours now so you don’t have to worry about my past,” he playfully winked at her, making her face of curiosity turn into that of flusterment.
”why are you talking as if i care about that?!”
“because you did! i could tell!” he teased her, enjoying the way her face was turning red.
“i was just curious, you asshole! you should have stayed with that pirate crew maybe, then i wouldn’t have to be dealing with your dumbass!”
[name] feigned being hurt, clutching his chest and slamming his hand down on the table, “oh, dearest nami, don’t say such rude things! you wound my heart!”
“i hope those wounds kill you then!”
“how painful it is to hear these words leave your mouth!”
“keel over and die already!”
nami glared at him through her eyelashes before turning her head away to ignore him and his carefree laughter. as she began reading the storybook, [name] walked over to join luffy. he had already read most of the book, anyway, so he wasn’t super interested.
he pressed down on the strawhat on luffy’s head, gaining a smile from his captain who welcomingly invited him to crouch beside him. so he did without complaint, throwing an arm around luffy’s shoulders.
“are you excited, luffy?” [name] asked, pinching the rubber boy’s side.
“yeah! what do you think they have on the sky island?! oh, do you think they have very yummy food!” stars were now in luffy’s eyes.
but [name] could only pout, “i don’t know, but what if they don’t have seafood! that’s gonna be a pain,”
“just eat meat then!”
“but seafood is the best!”
“no, meat is!”
“seafood is!”
the both of them were too distracted in arguing with one another that they didn’t realize that a pair of hands had sprouted from underneath the water. and that same pair of hands pulled them down into the ocean, drowning them in seawater.
[name] made sure to grab onto luffy before they were submerged completely, cursing himself for letting his guard down and glared at the figure that was now walking onto land whilst they were sinking in the water.
he made sure his grip on luffy didn’t loosen one bit as he kicked his feet underneath him, internally cursing the mystery figure out in his head.

robin <3 i'd love to hear about robins own, personal views on his sex and gender, please!
Thanks for the ask, Fray!! (answering it gives me something to do while i wait for the electricity to come back on!)
I'm putting this under a cut, because I've been typing for a while now and I feel like this'll be a long one. I will add that I'm briefly mentioning an eating disorder under the cut, in case you or anyone else wants to back out of reading that.
For the longest time Robin didn't really have any views on his sex or gender. He had a lot going on as a neurodivergent kid/teen due to poverty and, well, the repressed queerness; was just out there functioning/surviving somehow and was in general just pretty miserable all around, so any discomfort about his gender identity/expression was just part of a big heap of everyday sensory overload. There really wasn't time for him to focus on or take a closer look at himself much, and besides, he wouldn't have known the terms needed to put it into words.
He developed a bunch of unhealthy coping mechanisms about All Of That (drugs, sex, an eating disorder, ...) and really spiralled for a while until he met this man called Murdoc, who sort of became a mentor to him, and set him straight again.
And if Murdoc's one thing, it's perceptive.
So while Robin and him travelled together for a while, he provided him with the space he needed to just take a breather for once. Maybe express himself for once. And the option to talk about his feelings instead of having to bottle them up. And most importantly, since his wife Cynthia is a trans woman, he taught him the terms he needed to put all that dysphoria related turmoil he had going on into words.
So really, up until that point Robin hadn't thought about it much. Not thinking about it meant not having to deal with it, he was just hoping all those weird feelings, whatever they are, would go away one day. But of course they wouldn't have if he'd just continued to keep on going like that.
Now that he'd talked those feelings through with someone and then went on to change up his gender presentation, though, things got a hell of a lot easier. Murdoc used the right pronouns for him, called him by the name they'd chosen together (one of his favorite wildshapes to use to spy on people is an odd looking robin, and they both decided it's a nice fit), and after a while of that, Robin began to cook up medicine (cough, testosterone) that would change his body.
And all of a sudden he just felt GOOD about himself for once. His body wasn't just existing to carry him through the days anymore, instead he actively liked looking at it. His voice didn't hurt his ears anymore, it just sounded right. There was growth and hair in the right places and muscles where there used to be softness that he'd previously tried to get rid of by starving himself down to the bones.
See, and only then is when he started to really develop views on his gender and sex.
He is and always was, by all definitions of the word, a bisexual man, even when he was still blocking out the thought and just hoping for the dysphoria to go away on its own. Gender non-conforming (if he can wear them in a masculine way, he still wears many of his old clothes because he can't afford new ones for example, and he's insanely fond of jewelry, be that piercings, earrings, rings, bracelets, ankle bracelets, waist chains, etc) and somewhat gentler than other men he's gotten to know so far, sure, but really not all that different. Transitioning, to him, was like a lifeline he didn't know he needed extended to him, but now that he's gotten a hold of it, he wouldn't ever let it go.
Masculinity can be expressed in very many ways, and his way of expressing it is being forceful like rumbling thunder and strong like a centuries old oak that you can shelter underneath. He'll bear the brunt of the storm for you and keep you safe. And when it's over, and you open your eyes, rather than the lashing rain, you'll see the beauty of the sun's first rays shining through the greenest leaves you've ever seen, while their warmth caresses you.
(One thing I'll say (and it is really just more of a game-related issue) is that his in-game model looks pretty unchanged in terms of testosterone changes even after all the mods I installed to get him a little closer looking to himself. It does unfortunately have a lot of people jumping to the conclusion that he's some flavor of non-binary or futch/butch (and leaving comments that make ME dysphoric at the end of the day lmfao), when in reality, looking at him would not really differentiate him from a cis man and I'm simply limited by the game. There is no room to doubt his gender if going off "traditional" (binary) characteristics. He does bind his chest sometimes, and he usually wears his clothes in a way that covers/hides the shape of what's underneath. Funny enough, I am currently working on a painting of him and I'm kinda hyped about the absolute physical likeness I'm achieving with it, so I'm adding a little WIP!!)

Chapter 9 Summary
(episodes 247-277)
This chapter heavily focuses on the developing relationship between Jayden and Megyn.
The chapter begins the morning after the end of Chapter 8. Megyn contemplates the difference between the love in most people's families versus the lack of in hers. She realizes that the lack of love in her family sheltered her from knowing what love really is.
She gets up and has breakfast with Eva and her family. Right when Eva and Megyn are about to leave, Robin (Eva's mom) stops them and tells them she needs to talk to Megyn and instructs Eva to remain in her room until they're finished.
Megyn and Robin sit down on the couch, where Robin allows Megyn to describe her situation with Jayden so that she can provide advice. Megyn hesitantly agrees and describes her problem to her. Robin tells Megyn she felt similarly about Barry (her husband, Eva's dad) when they first met. The advice she tells Megyn is to give the situation some time and that if she likes him, she will know. After Robin dismisses Megyn to reunite with Eva, Megyn contemplates Robin's advice.
Eva and Megyn leave and go to Discotheque Pan Europa, a nightclub in downtown Windenburg. Eva tells Megyn that she has booked last-minute tickets to the pop DJ show that evening to surprise her, and that Wyatt will also be accompanying them. Megyn is flattered.
Later at sunset, Megyn, Eva, and Wyatt are in Eva's room viewing Megyn's party outfit, which are clothes borrowed from Eva. Megyn notes that Eva's clothes, which were previously big and baggy on her, fit her perfectly now. Eva states that now that Megyn is having regular meals, she's been able to gain weight and fill out.
They arrive at Discotheque Pan Europa after sunset, where the group notes the already large crowd. They go down to the dancefloor and enjoy the show, dancing together. After the concert, Megyn thanks Eva for taking her to it.
The next morning, Eva drops off Megyn at home, where she sees Jayden on the phone with his brother Dylan. After the call ends, they awkwardly greet each other. They agree to live life normally so their tension can wear off on its own.
As the weeks go by, Megyn finds she's having trouble shaking off the tension and frequently thinks about Jayden. After contemplating for a moment, she has an epiphany, realizing that she reciprocates feelings for Jayden. She admits to herself that she likes him.
The next morning, Megyn and Jayden have a deep, heartfelt conversation about each other's feelings. Both are overwhelmed by what they had to say to each other and Megyn states she would be willing to try out a relationship with him. Jayden is overjoyed and the two embrace at the end, marking the beginning of their relationship.
A few days later, Megyn and Jayden go on their first official date at a fancy restaurant. Megyn is flustered and tells Jayden she would have been okay with someplace more casual, but Jayden insists on his choice, telling her he's not worried about cost and that both of them deserve a high-quality meal. During the date, they further discuss their feelings and look back on the turmoil that was caused when Megyn found out Jayden liked her. Both are relieved that the tension has cleared.
Following the date, Jayden and Megyn snuggle up to each other and reflect on their first event as a couple. In the end, after Jayden tells Megyn he wants to do one more thing, they share their first kiss.

Here, finally giving y'all some soft damijon content <3
One of my favorite aus is where they get married/think they're engaged as kids so here's my take on it
Previously, when Damian had been introduced to kids around his age, it had been as potential spouses, so when his dad introduces him to Jon he's like. Well ok. It doesn't help that they're two prominent families in the superhero field and have a fairly muddy history together. Damian just assumed that they were attempting to improve relations between the families via marriage.
He explains this to Jon and neither of them... really know what marriage entails, so later Jon asks lois and she says it's for when two people want to stay together and care about each other very much so then he's like "well okay!!!! I want to stay with Damian for a long time! So marriage is cool!"
Eventually, they realize "yeah, okay, our parents definitely did not try and arrange a marriage for us" so it becomes sort of a gag between them, because they act like a married couple anyways. Where there's Jon, there's Damian, where there's Damian, there's Jon, where there's superboy there's Robin, where there's Robin, there's superboy.
One year, they each get each other rings for their birthdays, as a joke. It doesn't help when people keep mistaking them for a couple, but they wear them anyways.
And then Jon leaves.
And Damian is alone and he feels so *so* betrayed, but he keeps wearing the ring. As if hoping, praying, that if he keeps wearing it, Jon will come back. Jon will remember that he left Damian behind and come back for him.
Jon, in the future, still wears the ring. It's a promise to himself that he'll go back for Damian. That he won't leave his best friend and that they'll always be together. He, quite frankly, gets tired of having to explain his long, convoluted history with Damian whenever people ask about the ring, so he just starts saying "it's a wedding band, I have a husband" which isn't, technically, *un*true, it's just not totally the truth. But whatever, he and Damian call themselves each other's husband anyways, (that was a shock to the rest of the bat and super fams. They came down to the fortress of attitude to check on them one day to hear Damian calling "husband? Could you please bring me that?" To which Jon replied, with a laugh, "of course, husband!") So it's fine.
When Jon finally comes home, he and Damian don't see each other right away and he's crushed. But, again, whatever, Damian is really busy, he probably just doesn't have time. He might not even know.
(Damian *does* know, he does and he is absolutely terrified because what if Jon is so much different from what he remembers? Jon is older now, it would make sense for things to have changed)
Jon is approached by a young man named Jay Nakamura who says he likes him and asks if he would be willing to go out with him sometime. And it's very endearing, he seems to shy, and if this were a different Jon, one who hasn't been married to Damian since they were kids, he probably would've said yes. But this Jon just offers a sympathetic smile and says, "I'm really sorry, but I'm married," even holding up the ring to prove it. He isn't sure *why* this became his chosen method for fending off confessions, but it just felt right, every time.
As Jon turns down more and more people, rumors begin to fly because *jesus* what happened that meant he needed to get married at nineteen??
And then, adding fuel to the fire, Damian finally gets up the courage to come see Jon on campus. (Dick drops him off with a soft smile and says "you can do this, baby bird. And if you can't, I'll be right here waiting for you,")
People talk, of course, because Damian oozes wealth from his posture and the way he walks, to his clothes, which probably cost more than you or I could make in years. But Jon doesn't even hesitate as he calls "husband!" With a wide grin, before rushing towards Damian and wrapping him up in a hug.
That makes Damian relax, because *fucking hell* he was worried over nothing and things will be the same as they always have been.
The supersons are back, and quite honestly? Better than ever.
If, in two years, on Damian's 18th birthday, Jon and Damian sneak off to a courthouse, with Conner as their witness, and have a shotgun wedding, that's nobody's business but their own.

What if every time Danny transforms back into Fenton from Phantom, he’s automatically back in his white hazmat suit that he went into the portal with. He “died” in that suit so its basically his ‘save game’ outfit that it thinks his human self wears. Danny is cautious where and when he transforms into Phantom because he knows, upon changing back, he’s gonna have to do a crazy fast costume change.
It’s why we only see Danny in the white and red shirt with jeans. He buys those pieces of clothing in bulk and always has an extra set or two on hand in the event he needs to change.

"Rebel robin" easterggs
Tumblr media
- Robin's friend is a horror movie fan whos fav movie is evil dead (jonathan has a poster of it in his room)
- Robin's parent's car is the " dodge dart" a ref to Dustin's demodog-dart
-robin and her friends make analogies to zombies (like Will- the zombie boy).
- robin faints. And her friend milton says "blink once for yes twice for no". A ref to what Joyce said to Will in s1.
- robin's other friend has a little sister named el-ie who pretends to be a squirrel. A ref to el killing a squirrel in s2. This is also reminiscent of a scene from the st prequel novel ' suspicious minds' where young-kali pretended to be a tiger (the Hawkins school mascot) & a rabbit (Jonathan's hunting story).
- robin reminds me alot of the byers: she is into photography and rock like jonathan and even worked at the movie theatre like jonathan did in the og pilot. They both like David bowie and cook for their families. She also is poor and wears hand-me down clothes from relatives (like Will). She also is into existential philosophers. Which is also similar to jonathan who had a poster of the poet rimbaud in his room.
- robin is almost run over by a car by a bully while riding her bike: similar to Mike, Dustin, and Lucas in s2
- robin says the best accessory for a girl is her middle finger. Cue max giving the middle finger to billy in s2 XD
- robin (before Will dissapears) sees the quarry and gets uncomfortable and thinks of metaphorical monsters
- similar to how billy had baseball references (along with Will). Robin wears a baseball shirt
- her fav flavor of pie is cherry (like alexi and cherry slurpies). She also gets pissed at a guy sipping a cherry flavored drink- similar to hopper in s3 with alexi
- she cuts her hair and she describes it as looking like a lion. El and Will owned lion plushies in s1.
- robin refs Chicago (kali lives there) and NYC (hopper used to live there), and California (where max and billy used to live).
-tammy's fav song is total eclipse of the heart: the song Robin and Steve sang in s3. Tammy would often sing the song in robin and Steve's class.
- they make references to the hellfire club: she describes a time where she dresses like a cross between a nerd and a rebel. And a mom yells at her appearance saying she looks "goddless' . And another of Robin's friend (kate) is told ' what demon is possessing you, kate?" (hinting at the satanic panic). Meanwhile someone describes Mike and his friends as "hellions' as another hint to this. We also see how alot of parents got paranoid and a bit crazy when Will and barb dissappeared- prob foreshadowing the chaos that will happen if more kids dissappear in s4. Along with the satanic panic
-Robin is visiting her friend Kate at her house. Kate wanted to listen to Madonna together. Max and el listened to Madonna at el's.
- Robin's friend (kate) says "I dumped his ass" in reference to her cheating bf. A little nod to the m*leven breakup
- robin (like Will) felt excluded during the summer cause her friends kate and dash (Kate's now ex bf) were always making out . Sound familiar- cough m*leven
- robin annoyed says " makeouts, breakups and declarations of love all in the span of a week". Wow if that ain't a diss to certain pairing we know in s3 XD
- kate (like mike) says to Robin dating the opposite sex is a part of growing up . Which scares Robin (and Will in s3).
- robin has a nightmare of running down the school hallway with short hair (like el in s2 via the upsidedown)
- robin contemplates shaving her head (like el)
- robin says she likes to sometimes dress androgynous . And found a cool suit. Which we saw in s4 bts pics I assume.
- robin watches a music video where there are duplicate indianna joneses (could be a ref to all the billy duplicates in s3?)
- robin says " I stare at the ceiling. The ceiling stares back. I'm stuck and don't know what to do" a ref to the s3 song with robin called "the ceiling is beautiful"
- a character named Sheena reminds me a bit of Will or el . She is very quiet, queercoded, and is often bullied. And she finds mean notes and other things in her locker- placed there by bullies. A bit like how Will found the zombieboy note in his locker. But sheena can be another name for Jane so ...maybe foreshadowing of el/jane being bullied in highscool?
- when robin hears a hom*phobic comment on tv- she describes the anxiety like a ' thundercloud in a big open sky' and a "chill". Which reminds me of the mf being associated with clouds, thunder, and lightning. And the mf liking it cold.
- robin constantly describes the monster or shadow in her life- whether it be her talking about conformity or the problems of consumerism while she is poor (themes of s3).
- robin before realizing she was gay/crushing on tammy just says " I don't get crushes' which reminds me a bit of Will saying " I'm not going to fall in love" (as the lyrics are " love thats new to you, you open up the door')
-robin on her bike hears something (demogorgan) and runs back to her house , locks the door, and calls her friend- and the phone gets electrocuted. The next day Will is said to be missing. (Another Will paralllel).
- i was right about robin being in theatre. So we most likely will see robin in theatre in s4 (she also auditioned with a friend in the book). So for s4 my guess is she may be in the drama club with dustin- cause in s1 he had a drama shirt
- one of her friends is named milton. Since the documentary 'paradise lost' was on the s4 movie list. Its prob a ref to John milton who wrote the fictional 'paradise lost'. The character Sheena may be a ref to the 80s film/movies *where sheena (jane) was psychic
-Robin's gal pal (kate) and Robin eat m&ms and candies together. Kate jokes m&ms and candy bars are 'foods of the gods'. El ate m&ms in s3. They joke how talking about plural gods (instead of 1) would get them in trouble. In case you are unaware- kali (is the name of a Hindu goddess) and el (is the name of a cannanite god) .
-Robin also mentions hopper's car smells like eggos.
- robin tries running away (like el in s2, max in her novel, and jonathan also wrongfully assumed Will ranaway in s1 too).
-robin tries to get a job at Joyce's, than Bob's, and later gets a job where jonathan used to work
-bob newby describes the byers family as his "home" . Similar to how El describes the Hawkins gang as "home".
- robin says she was friends with barb before nancy. Suspiciously right after she says this- barb grabs Robin's hallpass that says ' glitch in the time space continuim. " the teacher who wrote this called robin a "glitch". Which makes me wonder if my did theory is right- but ...that certain powers at be may also alter memories or things so people assume said people have always been around.Mentioning it cause it seemed suspicious.
-not an eastegg but robin can't believe how nice Bob is. And Bob says the byers filled a hole in his life 😭 . She also felt an instant connection with Will and saw alot of herself in him.And asked if Joyce ever thought of moving like everyone suggested . One of the reasons Robin didn't like steve was because Steve never mentioned how Jonathan took innapropriate photos of Nancy. So everyone at school just knew jonathan as the quiet kid who takes pictures. So to everyone it just seemed like- wow you're bullying the quiet kid who's brother is missing and take away the one thing still left in his life that makes him happy. Which is why everyone assumes jonathan beat up steve later. Interesting to know how general Hawkins (not in the loop) viewed things
- the book referenced alot of previously mentioned movies on the s4 list or from prior duffer interviews...along with a few NEW movies ,books, plays, singers, and songs that I have to analyze for another day ...

I'm from a different dimension actually Chapter 6 Damian x reader
Tumblr media
Professor X sat in his wheelchair glancing around the room he hums his eyes pouring over all that there was finally landing on Robin. He gives me a look gesturing over at him.
"He informed me about The Crows sir, apparently they have gone under the radar, they've killed three people and the system didn't go off. At first, I thought we still had time, I treated a wound he had it he had come in contact with one and fought it. You know like how Wolverine did, I treated the cut and it's gone, but I was sure they were still in the dream state. But he got injured saving those left how survived probably not far from here, but the fact we didn't even receive the ring can only mean...they've returned under complete control again."
Concern fills the face of professor X, he turns to Robin, who shifts uncomfortably by the entrance of my kitchen. "Who are you then?"
"Robin."
The professor nods not even turning from his spot, he looks over Robin as if completing an inspection.
"How much does this Robin Know Dreki, about you, and The Crows?"
"I told him about the Jal-sein, the old race before the collective mind sharing, and he knows about my box of scales." Professor sighs.
"How did you meet him."
"When he broke through my window last week, infected."
"You gave him some scales to purge poison."
"Yes sir."
"Very good," He moves back to his original spot in the middle of the room. "You have been permitted to stop them at all costs if you must. Your uncle will be here soon to help you kill whatever has brought them back, in the meantime try not to use the stones. We don't want to attract more trouble than what has already been done."
"You're allowing me to put my powers to use?"
"As long as you don't wear it out, vibranium is not easy to turn into clothing."
"What a minute!" Robin's voice carried out through the room. "Just what's going on?"
"Robin," Professor X starts. "your world is being invaded by the Crow so that you become one of the many planets they have drained of life. And to do it they need a vessel that can contain the leader of the Jal-sein, Hok'mor." Professor X looks at him, his use
"And?" Robin says his face remaining unreadable
"I was the vessel, I escaped, destroyed the flagship and the army they had." I shiver moving out from my room to the box still lying on the kitchen table. "They were after the life of my home, so then I became a weapon for my planet." I pull out a bag of coins from the box.
"And what do you intend to do now (Y/N), destroy them yourself." Robin stands in the entryway, professor X stands behind him.
"Yes," I turn to him a chakram and the bag of coins in hand. "so unless you know how to obliterate a bird in 15 seconds or less you need to forget this ever happened and never come back."
"So, why tell me any of this, why tell me about anything why expose yourself?"
"So you can tell your family and friends and hopefully, just maybe you can survive. Because knowing them keeps them out of your head, but too much knowing allows them to enter." I pick up Nightmare, he crawls up to my shoulder and I head out of the kitchen, Robin makes room for me but just barely. I open my closet and pull out the last thing I have, two letters one written in my mother's signature ink and the other in my own handwriting, I hold them out to the professor.
"You know there is nowhere left for me to run professor if I end out getting caught...I just want him to have this. In my letter, papers are containing the custody terms for my brother to Uncle. I just need you to grab them to complete the transfer." Professor X slowly takes the letters where they rematerialize on his side.
"Good-bye Dreki, I will see that these get to your Brother."
Professor fades out of the com, and it clicks turning off, I pick it off the floor and slip it into the pocket of my sweatpants. I pulled out the chakram ready to leave a mark on my hand, I only needed a little bit of blood to completely transform when Robin coughs gaining my attention. He leans against the wall to the left of me now glaring at my form, Nightmare growls at the boy from the corner of my eye I see his fangs getting slightly bigger.
"Are you making it a habit to ignore me while I'm here?"
"No, But I do need you to leave, you can't stay here anymore." I begin to push him out the door in the kitchen, he slaps my hands away confusion leaving his face replacing it's with anger. He open's his mouth and I put a magic orange circle on his head.
"You Robin son of batman, found this information interrogating one of the monsters. It spoke in a language that was foreign but somehow understood all of it. You have made no such connection to the girl Y/N M/N, you did not see a man from another dimension, you came back to thank her for her help you had some tea and you were just leaving." I flick my hand and the circle vanishes, his head lowers for a moment as the information in his head readjusts. He moves to the balcony edge turning to face me the scowl returned to his face.
"Thank you for the tea." he pulls out a grappling hook and leaves without another word. I sigh moving to the same device I used to contact the professor. Picking it up I hold it to my mouth.
"Find me the closest thing to a sorcerer supreme, name and whereabouts contact them when you get there."
I toss it back onto the floor and it roars to life to give me a purple image of the earth and orange magic circles to tracking and moving. I move to my couch and fall asleep waiting for this day to take me.

I wake the next day with the globe still searching for my request I sigh and get ready for work. I thank god that it's just the coffee shop below me, I work on the weekends mostly unless they need an extra member of staff then it's just me and the older lady and her husband. They both owned the building and the shop they helped me get the apartment set up and showed me how to work the coffee machines. I don't really drink coffee though after seeing what a raving maniac my dad became without it, also it was just so bitter no matter how much sugar I put into it. I partially blame my heightened scenes that came with my abilities, so I got free white hot chocolates and any extra flavors I wanted as long as I did my job and chatted with them for a while.
I asked them personally to stay away while I was sick, so they wouldn't be affected. When I get down the stairs Martha, the elderly lady beams thankful that I'm feeling better.
"I so glad you are doing well dear, I know the acidity in our rain makes you sick so Glenn and I got you this umbrella." She hands me a purple umbrella that still has a tag on it, it reads for sun and rain.
"You didn't have to do this Martha, I told you I'm not good with gifts, you already let me stay here on the government's program and gave me a job here, you and Glenn have already done so much." She pushes the umbrella farther into my chest.
"No you do so much for us, you work without complaint, you've also taken care of us and our granddaughter when she came over. When you were sick we were so worried about you so you going to take it or I can give you more gifts."
"Thank you very much."I smile brightly. She pats my shoulder and gestures to the counter to start the machines.
Once all the machines are started, the desserts are placed and the base coffees are made I open shop. Customers come in and some lounge around in the chairs or couches drinking coffees and either studying or chatting with their friends. Molly usually comes on Sunday as one of our regulars, so I would see her then. A few of our regulars are happy to see I'm back at work one of the other tenants gave me a green bean casserole and a hug. It's 5 O'clock and I make a cappuccino as I finish I hear the door open and the bell ring on the counter.
The black-haired blue-eyed male I had gotten to know as detective Richard Grayson, came in every other day at 5, he normally talks often while I tried to take his order. So I memorized what he usually gets so he doesn't block the register so I can still make the register.
"Hey Y/N I'll take the usual."
"I thought so," I hand him his drink " one cappuccino."
He takes his coffee and moves to the bar we have set up if you wanted to watch the process and it's only then I see the other people behind him, one pissed-off looking male with a cigarette in his mouth, Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne. I look back to Richard he smiles at me leaning onto the bar.
"They came with me this time, It's family bonding time."
"You mean you dragged us out of the house to grab a coffee from this place cause you have a schedule."
"It's bonding Jason! Bonding!"
The two began arguing in the shop, I return my attention to the other two boys. Tim as at the counter puts a ten-dollar bill on the counter, while Damian does the same.
"Give me a regular coffee, black, large cup."
"Tea, no sugar, regular size."
Their voices crowed each other but since this happens frequently it was easy enough to at least get their orders down.
"Sure here's your change." I look back to the two arguing and I see Jason didn't put out his cigarette. He taps it and the ash of his drug falls to the floor.
Sighing I move out of the workspace gabbing a tong and a wastebasket, I take out the cigarette and throw it in the bin now gaining the full attention of Jason. I give him a stern look he seemed to freeze, bitting back any words he might have prepared to say before.
"Sir, I am not sure if I made we've previously made It but there is a strict no smoking policy. As you see we have many elderly, and young children in our establishment." I smile but I know my face is full of malice. "But please enjoy your stay at our cozy corner of our fine and fair city." I move back behind the counter start on some of my orders, I look at Jason again the smile still on my face.
"Would you like anything?" He gives me an odd look.
"White hot chocolate, Large," he nods his head over at Richard. "Put it on his tab."
"We don't have a tabs sir, he works for the police."
"So?"
"He gets Free coffee." He gawks at me as if I told him the sky was black, and I see Richard trying to contain his laughter.
"You give that guy free coffee?"
"It's a store policy." I pass out the coffee and the tea and I see from the corner of my eye he pulls out a flask. I grab the tongs again and clap them together, Jason looks at me then grumbles putting the flask back in his jacket, and instead pulls out a five and hands it to me. I take it from him gingerly and head straight to work on his order. I hand him both his spare change and his drink, and the complimentary cookie bag that came with it. He gives me another look.
"They come with a drink." I leave and continued my chores around the shop.
"You are doing much better (m/n)." I whip my head around and look at Damian who's behind me on the other side of the counter. His companions seemed to be in deep conversation amongst themselves.
"Yes, I'm doing just fine, it happens occasionally but nothing like a good cup of tea and a few nights rest couldn't fix." I go back to cleaning the counter.
"You were sick for much longer than that."
"Yeah...it happens." I change the topic to "Did you think of anything for the project?"
"Why not make a model, there is not really much to do with it anyway." I gasp dramatically.
"Not much to do with an astrolabe! You clearly didn't read the whole paper!" By now I have caught the attention of his group. Damian frowns.
"No, your paper was written very well, I just don't think we need to dwell too much on this project seeing as how we really are not presenting." I had heard that bit from Molly.
"I suppose your right." I put away the cleaning supplies and turn back to him. "I'll get started on a model right away!"
"You will do no such thing." His voice is stern. "I will come back later and work on it with you," He moves his chair back and heads out the door.
His companions follow quickly after him and they say their goodbyes.

As promised, he came a few hours later right as my shift ended and another person came for the second half of the day. I moved the glowing tracker to my room so it wouldn't gather any extra attention.
"I have supplies, what is all of that?" my brows furrow staring at the bulging plastic bag in his hand while I turn the keys in my locks. opening the door.
"I wasn't sure if you were prepared." He moves to the door, my arm shoots in his way stopping him.
"I wouldn't go in quite yet."
"What?"
I put a finger to my lips and crouch slowly to the floor, I shake the key in my hand then slid them across the floor. A ball of black attacks the object just as it crosses the doorway. Nightmare attacks the keys rolling around and bitting.
"Ah yes, observe the feral kitten in his natural habitat." I walk inside the door beckoning Damian to follow. "I would beware he is an ankle bitter. You can set up in the living room I'll just drop this guy off in my room."
"Does he attack all the time?"
"He's been like that since I picked him up, I don't blame him he was born in a rough neighborhood." I set Nightmare on the bed next to the floating version of earth. "Watch it make sure it finishes." then head to the living room. Damian has all his stuff set out on the table. There was veneer, paper, paint, some nails, an Exacto knife, a hammer, and a bag of pipe cleaners.
"This looks like stuff to make a birdhouse," I try and pick up some of the wood that was on the table." you realize cardboard, scissors, and a sharpie would have been enough."
"And here I thought you like polished and neat projects."
"yeah, but even with cheap materials you can still create a masterpiece."
"You don't do anything nice for yourself self do you?"
"Dude the most expensive thing I own is a cat who attacks me." I sigh, I sketch out a design for the astrolabe. "Well, why don't you start on the Mater, I'll get to work on the plate for our side of America."
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
"3 hours of hard work and I got to say it's not bad." I hold the fished product, It's attached to a string of green yarn. "The calculations are down to point." I put it down, I clean up the mess that's on the floor of the living room.
"About the last time we saw each other, I'm sorry."
"It's fine, you probably knew about me from the news already, the big myste#wayne#scifi#damian#bruce#bats#fanfiction#xreader#characterxreader#jason todd#tim drake#character x reader#mxf#fxm#batboys#batboys x reader#Damianxreader#X reader#DC#Marvel#MarvelxReader#DCxreader#batfam#mutants#Damian Wayne x reader ry of the missing journals. So many interviews." I dump the trash in the kitchen, saying that last part mostly to my self.
"You forgive too easily."
"I'm not as forgiving as you think, honestly you view me too highly it that's what you believe. Would you like something before you leave?"
"No, but I have something for you before I go." I open the door to my room and let Nightmare out.
"Oh?" He's already at the door and pulls a shiny gold card from his pocket, he hands it to me.
"Father thought it would be good to meet you."
"Because I'm the daughter of a famous dead professor, is he going to ask about the journals too?"
"No, this is to apologize for my previous behavior."
"Oh," I take the card looking at it uneasily. "I don't think I can go to this, I don't do well at parties."
"Not a very good excuse." He smirks.
"I'll think about it." I push him out the door and give him the Astrolabe, closing the door slowly. " I'll see you at school."
I look at the card again, It's like the parties mom went to I knew them well. While some were nice, others were nice only in their face. I laugh slightly to myself, Molly already called me earlier telling me I was her plus one to the same thing. This was already suspicious enough as it is. I look at Nightmare who cocks his head at me.
"You think I should go, don't you?" the furball nods
"Fine. I was going to be forced into this anyway."

So for the mud dogs one can you do one of the reader being the Robin Hood type (stealing from the rich and give to the poor) and the reader is close friends with Leonard and he kind of looks up to them for being so honorable (never admits it though). But they do a heist together and Leonard finds out after that its for an orphanage and they hang out after (and upon seeing the reader give so much to the children and the kids all loving up on the reader just made that orgers heart swell) and he can't help but confess his feelings for the reader. Please and thank you ❤❤❤
Not Many Care, But You Do
L.Leonard x G-N! Reader (Oneshot)
Relationship: Pining - Romantic
Warnings: Cursing. This is a long one, lads
Tumblr media
Leonard stood by you breathless as you both found refuge in a nook behind the Hidden City Train Station. The aged pilings that held up the towering tracks above you trembled as the rush-hour train chugged on by. Your backs clung to the brick wall you rested on, for the time being, taking a moment to gather your bearings.
Raising a hand to grasp at his chest, he wheezed, “You think we’re in the clear?”
You made an effort to pull yourself to the building’s corner, taking a peek out into the overly crowded street. Noting the lack of familiar uniforms in the sea of yokai, you nodded over to your friend in affirmation. “Yeah, yeah we’re good.”
“Finally.” With an exasperated sigh, he pathetically collapsed to the ground as his knees gave out beneath him. “I’m sick of running from those pigs, my feet are killing me.”
“Maybe you can buy a pair of trainers with that moola.”
“The day you catch me wearing sneakers will be the day I die.”
Leonard huffed as he withdrew one of the wads of cash he had spewing from his pockets, stroking his thumb over the paper’s edge. You watched as he did so, tossing the bag you had originally slung over your shoulder to his side.
“Take your share, but don’t take too long.” You spoke, leaning back on the wall and crossing one ankle over the other.
Leonard raised an eyebrow to you, dragging the sack of loot between his legs while he patted the dirt by his side. “We just ran a mile, sit yourself down for a minute.”
You eyed him as you contemplated his gesture. Soon enough you gave in and crouched down to his level, your knees clicking in the process. As Leonard rummaged through the bag and tallied up the count in his head, his eyes flickered once or twice over to you. “What’re you in a rush for anyway?”
“I just gotta make a stop somewhere.”
“You gonna elaborate on that?”
You sent your friend a sly grin. “No, I don’t think I will.”
“Pft, fine then, keep your secrets.” Leonard’s lips tugged up before shaking his head, turning his attention back to his lap. It only took another moment or two for him to finish totalling up your win, then he handed the only slightly lighter bag over to you and cleared his throat. “You did most of the work back there so, uh, you can have ten per cent off of my share.”
Touched, you replied with a hearty smile. “Thanks, man. But most of this isn’t for me anyway.”
“What d’ya mean, where’s it going?” Leonard stared at you perplexed as you made way to get back to your feet, dusting off your backside in the process. While one hand accommodated the bag in your grasp, his gaze turned to the one you held out to him.
“I’ll show you, come on.”
***
The two of you kept to the alleyways as much as possible as you lead the way to your mystery destination, which by the way, you still refused to share with the ogre. The area seemed run-down, forgotten almost. The afternoon was beginning to draw a close, with the sun’s amber gleams sitting above the boarded-up buildings you passed by.
He was aware that the closer it got to sunset, the sooner more authorities would be patrolling the streets for their nightly shift, which wouldn’t have been such a worrisome thing if it wasn’t for the fact you hit your heist at the brink of midday. Now they’ll have two clear faces to look out for, so you couldn’t blame him for getting itchy.
“Are we getting close? We can’t be walking around all night.”
“We already are here, dingus.” You stated over your shoulder before quickening your steps, springing up to a nearby set of stairs.
The building they neared towards wasn’t too grand and lacked much detail appearance-wise, aside from the large plaque that was nailed above the doorway that read: ‘Apple Blossom Children’s Home’.
Leonard breathed out a quiet “huh?” to himself before gradually making his way towards the entrance step by step.
Turning on your heel, you faced him with a wince. "Just, be nice for me in there, okay?"
"When am I not?"
"Funny."
Your friend tsked from behind as you raised a balled hand and banged a patterned knock on the door's acre panel. Scrambling could be heard from the other side, a muffled voice sounding before the door flung open soon after.
In the entrance stood a dishevelled nekomata, her hair and clothes tussled. Though her ears perked once she took notice of your familiar form, while also straightening out her whiskers in the process.
"Y/N! Aren't you a sight for sore eyes? Get in here, come on." With a wave of her hand, she ushered you into the establishment. While Leonard stood hesitant, you assured him with a simple smile, nodding towards the woman's direction before walking through the doorway yourself.
He stepped into what upon first viewing seemed to be a lobby of some sorts, accommodated with aged lily-pink plaster and the occasional drawings graffitied on the lower half of the walls. On the end before him, a few feet away or so stood a desk, worn and commonly sat at told by the mountains of documents and multiple empty mugs.
He ceased his footing once he felt something catch beneath his sandal, twirling it with his heal he noticed it was a discarded doll, one of many other toys that were scattered across the carpet.
"Kita! Put Jacob down, we have guests!" The cat yokai called out, a bang and a set of giggles heard in tow. Slumping her shoulders with a sigh, she turned to meet your gaze. "I swear it's gotten crazier since the last time you were over. So who's your pal?"
The ogre's cheeks dusted a light pink at the sudden attention drawn to him, though it was subsided as you stepped forward in reply.
"Ena, this is Leonard. He's a close friend of mine."
Ena's bright eyes caught a glimpse of his before a knowing grin pulled at her lips. "Close, huh? He's a shy one, isn't he?"
"W-well I-" He made way to stutter out a response but a childlike shriek reached his ears, wincing as he turned to see the culprit sprinting to your side.
"Fleshy!" The child gleefully yelled, reaching to you with outstretched hands. Ignoring the commonly used nickname, you reciprocated their greeting by sweeping them up into your arms.
"Hey, you! How you doin'?"
"I just squashed a lizard outside!"
"Oh, well, isn't that nice." You deadpanned, while Leonard seemed just as amused as you as he stifled his own snort.
Ena once again sighed, pinching the corners of her eyes. "I've told them to stop calling you that."
"It's fine, honestly." You chuckled, before adjusting yourself to hold out the sack you had previously propped on the ground. "Here. This should keep you going for the next month or so."
The cat scrutinized the bag in your grasp. "Y/N, you don't have to keep-"
"Ena. Take it, okay? It's not any trouble, and I know you need it. Much more than those flashy broads that wouldn't think to even spare a dime."
Your gaze held an encouraging glint, and you further gestured for her to take the bag despite the child that was wriggling in your clutch. To save herself from further prodding, all too aware of your stubborn nature, Ena accepted the bounty and quickly set it beside her counter.
As Leonard took in the scene before him, he rubbed his fingertips against his gloved palms at the sight of the woman's glossy eyes. Then his regard fell upon you, so much warmth emitting from you as you carried the ever-so giddy toddler. He would be lying if he said the entire situation wasn't pulling at his heartstrings.
Ena sucked in her bottom lip, smiling at you wholeheartedly before coiling her arms around your neck, while you hugged her back with your free arm. Choked up, she whispered. "You're a Saint, you know that? Seriously, I don't know where I'd be without you."
Releasing you, she sniffled, gathering herself before turning to your friend, who seemed to jump at her sudden gaze. "And you! Thank you so much."
Leonard almost acted on the urge to mention how he had no idea about the transaction, but he was cut short as she took him into her embrace also. Caught off entirely by the friendly affection, his eyes met yours over her shoulder in apprehension. Though all you did was grin and the small yokai in your arms gestured for him to hold her back.
In an awkward attempt at doing so, the man placed a gentle hand on her shoulder blade with a light pat. "It was nothin'."
"Sorry." Ena chuckled nervously, looking between the two of you. "I just- agh, this just means so much to me."
You laughed along with her, making way to stand closer to Leonard's side. Though, a little birdy on your shoulder drew your attention elsewhere.
"Your boyfriend's staring."
"Wha-"
"Oh my gosh- Kita, scamper!"
"Okay, I'm gonna go call for a pickup."
***
The ogre perched on the stone steps, patiently waiting as you bid your goodbye's inside. He rested his elbows on his knees as he loosely crossed his arms, looking off into the streets where the sun resided, scarcely peeking over the horizon.
He couldn't get the entire last hour out of his head. He couldn't shake the ceaseless butterflies gathering in his belly while he recalled the way you smiled over at him, while you held Kita. How you smiled over at Ena knowingly despite her protests.
Leonard was aware of how compassionate you were towards others, in your own simple way of doing so. It's what made his admiration grow for you in the first place.
You were just so...considerate. Never would he have thought he'd become so attached to someone like you...
"You call them yet?"
The familiar voice reeled him out of his daydream, soon enough mentally slapping himself for jumping as hard as he did.
"Uh, yeah. They'll be here in ten."
"Cool beans." Your feet clipped as you jumped down a step or two, releasing an exaggerated sigh as you sat down beside him.
Sensing the newfound silence, Leonard rubbed up and down his bicep, coughing out before he spoke up.
"So, 'Fleshy', huh? 'M guessing they haven't really come across a humie before."
You let out a breathy chuckle. "Nah. To be honest, they don't get to see many people at all. Unless it's their social worker..."
Leonard hummed in acknowledgement. "So how long have you been doing this for them?”
“About, uh...a year now? I’d say? Yeah. I’ve known Ena for quite a while, though.” You huffed lightly through your nose before slumping into a similar position as the ogre. “She loves those kids to bits but, she struggles so much. She’s practically on her last legs, and it doesn’t help when the taxes come to bite her in the ass. There’s only one other coworker there and they always fuck off to god knows where, so she’s having to take care of fourteen kids on her own-”
“Y/N.”
Your eyes snapped towards his. “What?”
“Catch your breath, don’t want you passin’ out on me.” Leonard released one of his rare hearty laughs, which never seemed to fail at making your blood rush to your ears.
“Right. I just- I just can’t stand by and watch her suffer like this, knowing she’s been there for me so much in the past. I would’ve done it even if it wasn’t to owe her back. If people need help and nobody else is gonna do something about it, then I guess I will. That’s just how it is.”
“You mean...that’s just how it is, with you?” Leonard added, taking in the incredulous look you shot him before turning his stare towards the cobbled roads. “I’m not saying it’s bad, you’re just a nice change of pace, is all. There aren't many people out there like you, people who care as much as you. Hell, I’ve barely been that person. But you’re just so... genuine a-and thoughtful. It’s amazing. I don’t get it, if I’m, uh, being honest with you.”
He breathed out another laugh, although this time it was to mostly to cover up his growing nerves. His eyes flickered towards yours before continuing. “I get that people have morals and shit, most of ‘em anyway. But you, y-you’re...”
Leonard stumbled as he caught sight of your sudden proximity, so close he couldn’t help but let his eyes wander, noticing the short, soft breaths that passed your parted lips. He quickly swiped his tongue over his bottom lip as he felt his chest ache for you to be closer.
“Y-”
“OH LOVEBIRDS~”
“You have got to be kidding me?”
Despite being aware of who your two interrupters were, and were about to awkwardly make way to where Charlotte was parked, Malicious just had to flash the headlights for extra measure.
“Get in the fucking car, we’re gettin’ Linguini’s tonight! Wooo!” The eel practically screamed at the top of his lungs, and in return you could hear a muffled:
“Keep it down, will ya, or we won’t get takeout at all.”
“Sorry, D.”
The ogre made sure you were up and behind him before taking aggravated strides towards the van, nearing up to where Mickey sat in the passenger seat.
Holding a tight grin, his friend quipped. “So, kids, how was your date?”
That earned him a palm to the face, pushing him back into his seat through the open window.
"I take it not so well."
A scowl was etched deep into leonard’s mug as he flung open the sliding door, stepping aside to clear way for you to enter first. Though as you stepped into the van, you tilted Leonard’s chin up to meet your warm gaze. Before he could comprehend the action, you placed a careful, chaste peck to his lips. The act seemed to have eased his tension, because he found himself reflecting the smile you held as he closed the door behind him.
“We have a rear view mirror, guys, c’mon.”

please tell us about your ghosts ocs!!
!!!!! so i have a uquiz i made a few weeks back that includes some of them, but the summaries at the end aren't completely detailed. i may update it to include the others.
i thought i had ten, but i actually only have 9 in all. they are:
marcus
period: roman
age: 40s
occupation: military guard
cause of death: stabbed by an intruder
summary: he's basically an ancient roman himbo. he's not very smart and was way too nice for his job. at button house, he spends most of his time outside or on one of the lower floors, but sometimes ventures upstairs to spend time with the other ghosts. the captain may or may not have a crush on him, kitty definitely has a crush on him, and mary Does Not Understand why, and makes sure to voice this opinion often.
outfit/appearance: dressed in a roman soldier's uniform with a stab wound at his neck near his collarbone.
face claim: either simon or jim. i keep flipflopping back and forth for various comedic reasons.
ingrid
period: viking age
age: 30s
occupation: farmer, previously a warrior
cause of death: poisoned by a neighbour over a land dispute
summary: ingrid is fairly intimidating as a result of her tall stature and slightly grumpy personality. her husband arne haunted button house alongside her for a while but moved on sometime during kitty's childhood. since then, she has been somewhat reclusive, keeping to herself and only leaving her room to venture out into the woods near the house on certain nights (mary suspects it's for some witchy ritual or other, but really she's just going to visit the places where she and her husband and children were buried). despite her reclusiveness, she is good friends with humphrey and she likes to play games and sing songs with jemima sometimes. julian once tried to flirt with her and she gave him such a look that he's still terrified of her to this day.
outfit/appearance: ingrid wears a long, brown dress with a golden yellow pattern embroidered down the front and at the hem of her sleeves. she wears black eye makeup and her hair is long and hangs loose, with a few small braids throughout, tied off at the ends with little glass and metal beads. she wears several bracelets and rings. she shows no outward signs of her death except for a bloody splatter on the inside of her left elbow.
face claim: ragga ragnars
arne
period: viking age
age: 30s
occupation: farmer
cause of death: poisoned by a neighbour over a land dispute
summary: ingrid's husband who died at the same time as her and who haunted button house for a few hundred years before moving on some time during kitty's childhood. none of the later ghosts know much about him other than that robin thought he was funny and his moving on is what caused ingrid to separate herself from the rest of the ghosts.
appearance: i haven't really decided yet since in the stuff i'm writing, he's only ever mentioned briefly by robin and mary and has never actually made an appearance. maybe some blood in his beard or on his shirt, like with ingrid.
face claim: again, haven't decided.
virginia, or "ginny"
period: early stuart
age: 40s
occupation: noblewoman
cause of death: smothered in her sleep with a pillow
summary: ginny is humphrey's niece who inherited the house after his death. she never knew him in life and thought poorly of him because of the supposed circumstances of his death. when she met him shortly after her death, she still didn't like him, but eventually decided he wasn't as bad as she thought he would be and is friends with him now. she likes listening to his stories while they sit or go for walks in the garden. fanny suspects ginny's husband was the one who killed her, but robin, who was downstairs when it happened, says he saw one of the maids going upstairs after everyone else had gone to bed and then coming back down a short while later.
appearance: she died while she was asleep, so she wears a long, white smock or nightgown and her hair hangs loose and is not styled.
face claim: alice lowe
peter
period: late victorian
age: 40s
occupation: groom and horse trainer
cause of death: dragged and trampled by a spooked horse
summary: peter worked at the house during george's youth and the early years of his marriage to fanny. he was killed sometime in the 1890s when one of the stable boys purposefully spooked a horse he was exercising. he and fanny knew each other distantly in life as they had several years in common at the house, but they were never really close in life as she was the wife of his employer. peter is irish and working class, so he and fanny don't really have very much in common at all, but they do get along fairly well as ghosts (though not as well as fanny and the captain).
appearance/outfit: a white button-down with the sleeves rolled up, a black waistcoat, and black-and-grey plaid pants, dirty from being dragged through the horses' exercise track.
face claim: andrew scott
lizzie
period: 1920s
age: 20s
occupation: maid
cause of death: tripped going down the stairs to the basement
summary: lizzie was a maid who worked at the house in the 1920s. one evening, near the end of her shift, she was going down to the basement to retrieve some clean sheets from the laundry room when she tripped and fell, hitting her head. the plague ghosts were the first to welcome her, and while she was frightened at first and they backed off, a couple of them decided to stay with her and try to help her understand what had happened. she still didn't believe it, even when another maid came downstairs and discovered her body and she watched as it was taken away. she only ventured upstairs a few times over the next couple of decades while the people she knew and worked with were still in the house because it made her sad to see them, but eventually made her way upstairs to stay. she was friends with mary and annie (until annie got sucked off).
appearance/outfit: medium height, straight reddish hair tied back in a bun, black maid's dress.
face claim: saoirse ronan
ron
period: 1930s
age: 30s
occupation: musician
cause of death: electrocution
summary: ron was the cousin of the wife of the lord who owned the house. he was also a musician and was invited to provide entertainment at a party hosted at the house. however, he was electrocuted while helping set up some of the sound equipment (which may or may not be robin's fault). thomas does not like him and views him as a threat, but ron couldn't care less because most of thomas's concerns are unwarranted. ron still writes songs sometimes and tries to teach them to alison for her to write down for him and/or sell them to make money for the house, and he's very good, but due to her lack of musical ability and understanding, it never seems to work. alison downloaded some music composing software onto her laptop for julian to work with him on it, but julian is even worse at music, and because julian can only work slowly, it takes ages and they end up arguing a lot.
appearance/oufit: tall and thin with dark hair that was once neatly combed but now, due to his electrocution, has a habit of standing up no matter how much he tries to smooth it down. he wears a maroon sweater vest over a white button down and black slacks.
face claim: dev patel
johnny
period: late 1960s
age: 50s
occupation: unemployed writer and amateur musician
cause of death: drugged and beaten by some men at a party
summary: johnny is very friendly and laid-back. his main fault is that he is much too trusting and hardly ever suspects anyone of doing anything wrong, which he comes to realise is what probably got him killed. the other ghosts don't always keep him in the loop about what's going on in the house, so he often gets left out of activities and spends a lot of time alone or with humphrey (if he can manage to stumble upon him). he's scared of the plague ghosts because they were the first thing he saw when he "woke up," and much like alison, he thought they were zombies or a drug-induced hallucination. sometimes gets up to Shenanigans(tm) with robin and/or julian.
appearance/outfit: he is a shorter, heavy-set man with dark greying hair. he wears a multicolour striped cardigan over a white shirt and jeans, and his clothes are somewhat dirty from the altercation which led to his death.
face claim: michael sheen
jessica
period: 2000s
age: 17
occupation: none
cause of death: undetermined
summary: jessica is a teenager who died in 2004 at a sleepover. she loves music and dancing, so of course she and kitty are great friends. she has a small crush on thomas. i haven't really thought much about her cause of death; i just think it would be interesting to see a ghost from the 2000s because you never really hear about that sort of thing.
appearance/outfit: bright pink pajamas with purple polka dots, blue fuzzy slippers, and messy looking bun pigtails.
face claim: saoirse-monica jackson

Bill was up to something; George just knew it. He’d be home for work when he wasn’t out of the country, but sometimes was out of the house for unexplained hours, when George knew he wasn’t at the bank. Fred voiced similar suspicions, though he was more distracted by pranking Percy than Bill’s mysterious ‘work’ hours. With the arrival of their O.W.L. results, their mum was less concerned with how they spent their summer hours. George was determined to find out.
Ginny would have been good to recruit for his snooping, but George wasn’t willing to get her involved in spy work that wasn’t inside the Burrow. (He hoped Bill was just spending time with a paramour, and not up to shady business, like vampires) Ron was busy with dueling Neville and cooking with their mum, and wouldn’t be that interested in tailing Bill. So George set out by waiting outside Gringotts (Bill’s hand on the clock was firmly on ‘work’, but other times it said ‘other’, which this ‘other’ was what George really wanted to know,) until Bill left the building for lunch. He followed Bill down Diagon and into Knockturn Alley, glad that he was disguised by a Notice-Me-Not-charmed hat and cloak; he and Fred’s invention prototype (to see exactly how long the charm would last on articles of clothing, the charm was long lasting on jewelry and other accessories but had issues on woven and knit fabrics).
Bill entered Borgin and Burkes, somewhere George refused to set foot into. Was Bill going dark? Was he selling items? Buying items for the bank? Buying items for himself?
Some ten minutes later, he left the store and headed deeper into the alley. George took a moment to consider if knowing Bill’s secrets was worth being potentially mugged or pick pocketed. Or even just having his entire view on Bill being flipped on its head. But no, he’d already invested in being out for the day; Fred was covering for his absence. He was going to follow Bill until it actually got dangerous or it was nearing supper, whichever came first.
Bill walked for some time with his unknown shadow until he came to the Dancing Phoenix pub. George followed as well, figuring a pub couldn’t be the worst place to visit on a lunch break. He took a seat at a back table, where he could keep an eye on both Bill and the door, because while George might be a Gryffindor, he wasn’t an idiot. Bill had seated himself at a table near the center of the dining hall, where a few folks were already in discussion. Bill ordered a shepherd’s pie, but George packed a lunch, so he only ordered a butterbeer.
A sudden swell in noise had George looking up from his lunch. A tall and tanned youth had walked in from behind the bar, triumphant expression beaming, as he announced, “Swift has failed to dethrone me, yet again!” Cheers went up, and the youth walked around the tables, shaking hands and promoting his celebrity with the room. After a lap around, he seated himself at the table Bill was at, and a dusty (and freshly beaten, George assumed,) man sat with them as well.
George spent his lunch people watching. It was an interesting sort who frequented this place, where the bare wooden beams and whitewashed walls added to the charm, not unlike the Three Broomsticks. There were folks who looked like tradesmen and women, with aprons and soot and burns and muscles. There were obviously shady individuals, who appeared to have recently crawled out of a gutter somewhere. Children too, would run in and out, usually either the bar to grab an order and then rush out, or they would go directly to the youth near Bill, speak with him for a few moments, and then also sprint away.
It was certainly lively in a way that George hadn’t expected from this place. He supposed this was the infamous Lower Alleys that Dad had mentioned occasionally. It was…cleaner, than George had previously believed. And not quite as lawless as Dad had made it seem.
George looked over to Bill’s seat where both Bill and the youth were getting up to leave. Bill clasped forearms with him, nodded to the rest of the table, and brusquely left the pub. George packed away his lunch and reached to chug the rest of his butterbeer when the youth grabbed the mug first.
“That’s a pretty fancy hat and cloak you’ve got there,” the youth leaned back in his chair, stretched out like a kneazle in the sun. “It’s not often we get a patron who brings their own food.” George kept eye contact, though the youth was giving him a firm side-eye. There was too much of a challenge behind that, and he was too Gryffindor to ignore it.
“I wasn’t expecting to stop for lunch,” he said gruffly, a lame attempt to disguise his voice. Why didn’t he think to wear more of a disguise? “But I got thirsty.” At that admission, the youth slid the mug back to George.
“Are you sure it wasn’t because your quarry was the thirsty one?” George narrowed his eyes. The youth laughed, almost a bark of a laugh. “I know you don’t mean harm; your aura is all off for malicious intent.”
George raised an eyebrow, and wrapped his cloak tighter around himself. “And what do you know about auras?”
“Well, I know that yours feels like it’s missing the final note to its chord, and the music its playing is of adventure, and not revenge. What do you know about auras?”
George hummed and closed his eyes, concentrating on the aura before him. It was much harder to read anyone who wasn’t Fred, but this one was both louder and softer than the usual ones he’d come across. It was a coiled blue, a gradient between slate and robin’s egg, curled around a powerful core. Likely fire, he thought, and there was kindred feeling, one of protect and defend and curiosity.
“I know that yours is whispering of suspicion, but there is a brighter part that wants to know if this humble stranger means harm to those under your protection. And that you really do like my hat.” He added with a smirk.
The youth’s appraising look felt satisfied. George removed his hat, handing it over for inspection. He felt exposed with his fiery mop exposed, but his cloak was still working, as no one looked their way.
“You, humble stranger, need not keep that moniker with a hat like this. Are you in the business of millinery? I know a fair few folks who would love to sport your brand.”
“Ah,” George wasn’t expecting his hat to gain that much attention, seeing as it was designed to not gain attention. “It’s still in the workshopping phase, unfortunately. The imbued charms wear off far too quickly for practical use.”
The youth handed back the hat. “That certainly is unfortunate, my good man. Allow me to introduce myself,” He stood into a sweeping bow. “Lionel Hurst, at your service, milord.”
George matched his pose, “Allow me, your highness, to congratulate you on securing your throne, yet again.”
Lionel rubbed the back of his neck, “You heard about that, did you?”
“Hard not to, when you announced it for all and sundry to hear.” George placed the hat back on his head. “I am afeard that the chiming of the bells beckons me to leave your exalted presence, and beg my lord to grant this plebian a leave of absence, so that he may labour away in his modiste craft, to perfect that which his most noble of heads does so desire.”
Lionel laughed, “At ease, my good sir, for your work is granting of its praise. Go forth and perform your self-imposed duty, and should you see fit to return, bring he who harmonizes your most sacred of songs.”
They bowed a final time before George left the building, hoping he could figure his way back to the Leaky Cauldron.

Timothée Chalamet and Eileen Atkins Interview - British Vogue May 2020
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Maybe your knuckles weren’t bleeding, but there was ice,” Timothée Chalamet tells Dame Eileen Atkins. He is recounting, with no small amount of awe, how he first came to hear of the legendary 85-year-old actor with whom he is about to appear at The Old Vic. It transpires that Oscar Isaac, Chalamet’s co-star in the upcoming blockbuster Dune, was at the receiving end of Atkins’ fist in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood (all in the name of acting, of course). Chalamet was duly impressed.
“I gave him the worst time of his life,” says Atkins, bristling at the memory, before merrily launching into several candid, very dame-like stories from her time on set – “That was a nightmare movie. A nightmare.”
It is a Saturday afternoon in late February, and the two actors – one a titan of British theatre with an eight-decade career; the other, Hollywood’s most in-demand young leading man, with an insatiable Instagram following – have just finished being photographed together for Vogue. Chalamet, 24, in louche, low-slung denim and a white T-shirt, has folded his Bambi limbs into a chair next to Atkins, whose hawkish frame, in a navy jumper and jeans, belies her 85 years.
“Do you like being called Tim or Timothée or what?” Atkins asks in her warm but brisk RP, all trace of her Tottenham upbringing erased.
“Whatever works,” he replies in a bright American accent, that shock of chestnut hair falling into his eyes. “Anything.”
“So you won’t object to ‘darling’? I call everyone darling. I’m told I mustn’t say it these days.” He assures her he is fine with it: “It’s a rite of passage, being called darling by Dame Eileen Atkins.”
“You always, always, have to put the dame in, otherwise you can’t address me,” she jokes.
It’s good the two are getting all this sorted now. A couple of days after our interview they will begin rehearsals for a seven-week run of Amy Herzog’s play 4000 Miles, in which they star as a grandmother and grandson, each quietly dealing with their own grief. Chalamet takes on the role of Leo Joseph-Connell, a somewhat lost 21-year-old who experiences a tragedy while on a 4,000-mile-long cycle ride with his best friend. Atkins plays Vera Joseph, his widowed 91-year-old grandmother, upon whose Manhattan doorstep Leo unexpectedly arrives in the middle of the night, unsure of where else to go. What follows is a wonderful, and wonderfully witty, study in human relationships, a portrait of two generations with decades between them trying to make sense of the world.
Its stars, who’ve met twice previously, in New York last year, are still very much getting to know each other – and are confident in the appeal. “There are things like this play – hoping I don’t butcher it – where you can just sit back and go, ‘Oh, this is a delicious meal,’” says Chalamet. Atkins agrees. “I have a phrase in mind that I shouldn’t really say because it’s going to sound terrible in print.” Which is? “I find it a dear little play, a really dear little play. I think it should be very moving. But who knows? We might f**k it up.”
It’s unlikely. Atkins has been a regular on The Old Vic’s stage since the 1960s, going toe-to-toe with greats from Laurence Olivier to Alec Guinness, and fellow dames (and close friends) Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. Chalamet, meanwhile, is a relative novice, with only two professional plays under his belt. But since his turn as Elio in 2017’s Call Me by Your Name (for which he was Oscar-nominated), his celluloid rise has been meteoric. Roles in Lady Bird, Little Women, The King and Wes Anderson’s upcoming The French Dispatch have not only earned him the slightly fraught badge of “heart-throb”, but proved him to be among the most captivating actors of his generation.
Tumblr media
He says he couldn’t resist the opportunity to come to the capital. “There was something exciting about doing a play that feels very New York in London,” Chalamet explains of taking on the part. He’s a diehard theatre fan, too, revealing he saw the six-and-a-half-hour epic The Inheritance – twice. “There are films like The Dark Knight or Punch-Drunk Love or Parasite that can give you a special feeling. But nothing will be like seeing Death of a Salesman on Broadway with Philip Seymour Hoffman or A Raisin in the Sun with Denzel Washington.”
Herzog’s writing particularly spoke to him. “Leo’s in a stasis that was very appealing to me,” he continues. “We find our crisis in moments of stasis, but there’s an irony to it when you’re young, because the law of the land would have you think that to be young is to be having fun, to be coming into your own. But as everyone at this age who’s going through it knows, it’s often a shitshow.”
Tumblr media
It’s safe to say that, in casting terms, director Matthew Warchus, also artistic director of The Old Vic, has hit the jackpot. He first took the play to Atkins three years ago, but it was only towards the end of 2019 that Chalamet came on board. When it was announced, in December, that Hollywood’s heir apparent to Leonardo DiCaprio would be making his London stage debut, the news was met with a level of hysteria not usually associated with the 202-year-old theatre’s crowd.
“Oh, my friends have told me who the audience is,” Atkins chimes in when I ask who they think will be coming to see the show. “It’s 40 per cent girls who want to go to bed with Timothée, it’s 40 per cent men who want to go to bed with Timothée, and it’s 20 per cent my old faithfuls.” Is Chalamet prepared for the onslaught? “I think it will be 100 per cent Eileen’s faithfuls,” he demurs.
On the surface, they can seem quite the odd couple. Chalamet, raised in Manhattan by an American dancer-turned-realtor mother and French father, an in-house editor at the United Nations, may be living a breathless, nomadic movie-star life but there’s an iron core of Gen Z earnestness there. He arrives on set with minimal fuss, even deciding to wear the clothes he came in for one shot, before knocking out some push-ups, politely ordering an omelette and generally being divinely well-mannered.
He turns on the star power for the camera, though, and I can confirm it’s as dazzling up close as it is on the red carpet, where he has, famously, casually redrawn the rules for male dressing. From that Louis Vuitton sparkly bib at the 2018 Golden Globes, to a dove-grey satin Haider Ackermann tux at Venice last year, he’s a true fashion darling. Then, of course, there’s his dating life – from Lourdes Ciccone Leon to Lily-Rose Depp – that remains an endless source of fascination to millions worldwide. (All this, it must be said, is of significantly less interest to Dame Eileen.)
Tumblr media
Atkins started dance lessons aged three, shortly before the start of the Second World War. By 12, she was performing professionally in pantomime, not far from where she grew up in north London, the youngest daughter in a working-class family. A fast-established theatre star, wider fame didn’t find her until late in life. Despite memorable turns in Upstairs, Downstairs and Gosford Park, it was the 2000 television hits Cranford and Doc Martin, when she was in her early seventies, that finally made her a household name. Today, she lives alone in west London, since her second husband, the TV and film producer Bill Shepherd, died in 2016. She has often spoken of being happily childless, and has zero time for razzmatazz.
And yet, despite their differences, the pair appear perfectly matched. They already have their grandmother-grandson dynamic down pat. Atkins does a fine line in mischievous eyebrow-raising, and at one point recites a limerick that is, honestly, so rude it almost makes her co-star blush. Chalamet, meanwhile, is politeness personified, still trying to work out his thoughts on various subjects, less inclined to give so much of himself away. There is a physical likeness, too, in their delicate features and fine bone structure. They share a naturally melancholic look, one that melts away when they laugh.
Their upcoming play, which premiered to rapturous reviews Off-Broadway in 2011, “about a block” from Chalamet’s high school, LaGuardia, could have been written for them. “Other than not being American, I’m very like the old woman,” says Atkins of the Pulitzer-shortlisted play. “I can’t be bothered to learn the internet.” If there’s one thing she won’t tolerate in rehearsals, it’s people on their phones. That’s the only thing that will “piss me off ”, she says, brusquely.
Ah, phones. Are they really the symbol of generational disconnect? “It’s easy to point to these things,” Chalamet says, tapping his phone on the table, “as the cause or the symptom, but I think my generation is a guinea pig generation of sorts. We’re figuring out the pros and cons and limits of technology.”
Equally, Atkins is keen to distance herself from some of the criticism levelled at her age group. “There’s a saying isn’t there: if you’re not very left wing when you’re young, you’re heartless. And if you’re not very right wing when you’re old, you’re foolish. I’m not political, but I’m not with this government I can assure you – and I’m not with Brexit. I wanted to wear a sweater saying ‘I did not vote Brexit’, because it was all old people who did. Not me, not me,” she snaps. “I went on the march.”
Both are in agreement that intergenerational friendships are too rare these days. “So. Important,” Chalamet says, hitting the table between each word. “There is so much to learn from people who have walked the path of life. That’s why I’m so looking forward to these next couple of months.”
Atkins is thoughtful on the matter. “I don’t miss the fact I don’t have children, but I do envy my friends who have grandchildren,” she says. “About five or six years ago I met a couple of young people – they are just about 30 this year – and, do you know, we go out together. And people immediately say to me, ‘Are these your grandchildren?’ And I say, ‘No.’ And they say, ‘Your godchildren?’ And I say, ‘No, they’re just friends.’ Everybody thinks there is something weird about all three of us. They just don’t get it. But the boy makes me laugh more than anybody and the girl is enchanting. I have more fun with them than I do with almost anybody else.”
I remind Atkins about her description of today’s youth as being overly serious. “I do call them the New Puritans, yes,” she says, before motioning to her young co-star. “He probably drinks like a fish.”
Chalamet, currently single, is remaining tight-lipped about plans for his new London life, and how many late-night manoeuvres in Soho or Peckham it may involve. “I’ve got friends here, which is nice. But I’m here for this – to be terrified at The Old Vic.”
Before we leave, there is a final thing to clear up – Atkins’ aforementioned limerick. “Do you know about the Colin Farrell situation?” Eileen asks Timothée. No, comes his reply. “Better get it over with now because someone will tell you,” she says, proceeding to explain how, when she was “69, about to be 70” and filming Ask the Dust with a 27-year-old Farrell, “he made a pass at me. He came to my hotel room. He was enchanting. I let him chat for two hours, thoroughly enjoying it, but no not that. He was very cross I didn’t.”
But then, she explains guiltily, she later told the story during “some stupid TV show” (Loose Women), where despite her best efforts at keeping Farrell’s identity secret, the internet did its thing and news got out. An apology to Farrell was required. “So I left a limerick on Colin’s phone…” she says. She clears her throat: “There once was a **** of a dame…” she begins, in her imitable theatrical timbre, before reeling off one of the filthiest rhymes I’ve ever heard.
There is a moment of stunned laughter. “Wow, that’s sincerely amazing,” comes Chalamet’s response, as Atkins finishes the verse. He gives her a solemn oath: “I promise I won’t hit on you.”
4000 Miles is at The Old Vic, SE1, from 6 April

for the five of you who have been patient with me--more patient than i deserve-- here is the conclusion to my space pirates AU.  to @profdanglaisstuff, to @katie-dub, to @thisonesatellite (who was very gracious and did not say ‘i told you so’ when i realized she’d been right about war stories).
this will truly be unintelligible if you have not read parts one and two, but they’re short.  i promise.
proximity alert cell block 1138 a good day
--
previously on ‘proximity alert’ and ‘cell block 1138′:  emma's gotten herself mixed up in a bad situation, and it's gotten even worse. with the help of the crew of the jolly roger, she's getting killian back, no matter what it takes.

She was having difficulty breathing. Her hand hurt and sweat clouded her vision, dripping off her forehead. Her skin was blistered, burnt--standing upright was a challenge.
But she’d made it.
She’d piloted the shuttle successfully back to the Jolly Roger, sinking back into her chair when Will Scarlet voice crackled over her comm that he had her locked in.
She’d made it.
Federation Operative Emma Swan waited impatiently for the airlock to release and was faced immediately with Robin Locksley--”Where’s Killian?” he demanded--and Scarlet himself, who peered past her into the shuttle cockpit.
“Gold’s got him,” Emma gasped. “I--I got away. Killian, he--” Emma gulped.
“He didn’t.” Locksley’s face drained of all color and he said, “Gorramn it. This isn’t right.”
He was shaking his head and his eyes were on the floor, on the doors, on the goddamn ceiling. Anywhere but on Federation Operative Emma Swan.
“It’s wrong, is what you mean,” Scarlet said. He stared straight at her, his glare so hot Emma was surprised it didn’t burn. “The word you’re looking for is ‘wrong’.”
He turned and walked toward the cargo bay, as if that was that. But the word echoed for Emma, sweeping through her veins like the electrical current, sending tingles to her fingers and toes and heating up her cheeks and she pictured Killian spitting blood and venom at her, whispering poison into her ear as he riled her up--
--keeping her angry. Focused.
Protecting her. Unconsciously her fingers curled into a fist and her nails got caught in the scrapes the lockpick had made in her skin. His lockpick.
Robin caught her wince and gestured for her to follow in Scarlet’s wake.
“All of this is wrong,” he said. “This was not how the plan was meant to go.”
Scarlet stopped in his tracks and hissed, reaching for Locksley; for Emma, time stopped.
“Wait,” she said.
Locksley growled something unintelligible, ignoring her.
“Wait,” Emma said again, raising her voice, waiting for someone to speak and pulling the gun she’d stashed in the shuttle, pointing it at Will when no one did. “What plan?”
Scarlet looked at her, calmly. Quietly. Politely.
Emma really wanted to shoot him.
“Aren’t you going to say anything?” she said instead. “What are you waiting for?”
That’s when Emma felt the arm around her neck and the pain in her wrist that loosened her grip on the gun.
Will pointed. “I was just waiting for Ursula to get up behind you.”
There was a whisper in her ear that said, “Calm down, sweetheart,” before the world went dark.
--
“She’s pretty. Way prettier than her identcard.”
“Of course she is. Don’t mean we have time for this.”
Emma woke up with a bandage around her palm, hooked up to a drip. There was a lightness in her head; they’d given her a smoother.
“She’s bleeding and burnt. We didn’t have a choice.”
“She left the Captain. That wasn’t part of the plan.”
“You know the Captain. Never gonna miss a chance for thrilling heroics. Especially not with--”
“Yeah. He’s a bid damn hero.” Someone was standing over her. “And she’s awake, anyway.”
Emma sat up and ignored the dizziness, reaching for the drip in her arm and trying not to scream from the movements.
“Easy,” said a man who was tall and blonde and staring at her as if she was a science experiment.”
“Yeah, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.” It was Will.
“It’s not,” Emma said, but was restrained from further movement by a woman, tall and broad and beautiful with a fall of thick black hair and a gun at her hip.
“Listen to the doc,” she said, gesturing at the blonde man, and Emma recognized her voice. Part of her wanted to laugh at the ‘big damn hero’ comment and the other part of her wanted to cry, because that was Killian Jones.
That was why she’d gone to him, in spite of everything.
That was why he’d helped her, in spite of everything.
And now she’d lost--everything.
“What the hell is this?” Emma whispered. “We need to get Killian. We need to--” she gulped, feeling dizzy again “--find my kid. He’s not safe, Gold’s looking for him, we have to--”
“He’s alive, right?” It was the redhead speaking, the one who’d called Emma ‘pretty’.
Emma nodded and the redhead--she smiled. It didn’t last long, just until Will said, “For now.”
Robin Locksley smacked him on the back of the head. “We’re getting him back. Right, Ursula?”
The woman still gripping Emma’s shoulder smiled, too, though it was tiny and strained as she watched the redhead. “We are, Ariel. I promise.”
“Who’s your kid?” Locksley asked, but Emma was dizzy and nauseated and in pain and she couldn’t speak. She was nothing but a spiral of rage and regret that fed on each other, expanding outward--at the crew, at Killian--and then contracting inward, because all of this was her fault. It had been her mission, her plan.
Except--had it?
The spiral started over again, making breathing difficult until the redhead--Ariel--stepped forward and took Emma’s hand and squeezed it. She said, “You know that none of this is your fault, right?”
“Except for how it is,” Will said.
Ariel ignored him. “You’re not responsible. He was always going to go, and he was never going to leave you behind. That’s not the kind of man he is, and it’s the first thing he always teaches us when someone joins the crew.”
Emma looked at her and saw genuine sympathy in the woman’s eyes. She squeezed back. It was all she could do.
“Operative Swan.” A man spoke. He wasn’t tall but he carried himself with a sense of presence that Emma immediately found comforting. He was bald; his clothes were plain and grey and he walked as though he was wearing a uniform. “Please, relax. I assure you that we are going to get the Captain back. Tell us about your son.”
Will made an exaggerated show of tapping the chronometer on his wrist.
“No, Will, it’s clearly important to her, and it might give us additional information we need to finish the job safely.”
Will threw up his hands and ducked before Locksley could hit him again. Ursula kept her eyes trained on Emma while Ariel’s gaze flitted from one person to another.
“Call me Nemo,” the bald man said. “I promise you that you can tell me, Emma.”
“My son is--” Emma took a deep breath. “My son is Henry Cassidy. He’s Gold’s grandson, and Gold wants him back. That’s why I--” She shook her head. “That’s why I went to Killian, why I used him, why--”
Emma stopped talking.
Every face in the medbay was on her. Will had gone colorless. Ariel gasped. Even the doctor seemed interested.
“Shit.” It was Ursula.
“Emma?” Locksley looked sympathetic and Emma blinked back tears. She never should have left Henry with him, but Henry was special, Neal had insisted. Deserved his life with the best tutors and academies the Federation could offer--more than the life an always-on-the-job Operative could give him. Henry deserved his best chance.
Emma had no idea what she’d been getting in to.
She had regretted it immediately.
But that was already too late.
Nemo repeated, “Tell us about your son, Emma.”
But she was done with all of that.
“No,” Emma said. “Why don’t you tell me?”
A woman walked into the medbay just then--a woman with luscious, curly brown hair and a pale complexion and pink in the apples of her cheeks. When she walked in, Will Scarlet turned immediately in her direction, as if he could protect her from whatever was about to happen.
“Belle,” he said, but she cut him off with a glance.
“For starters,” she said, “his name isn’t Henry Cassidy any more. It’s Henry Mills.”
--
Killian breathed, and it hurt.
He ignored it.
Killian moved, and that hurt, too.
But he stayed focused.
Emma had gotten away.
Emma had gotten away.
She would be safe. The boy would be safe.
His crew would finish the job.
They would end this.
That was the plan.
He repeated it to himself as Gold turned up the dial for another round.
--
Regina Mills projected a majestic air that carried even across the crappy vidscreen in the medbay of the Jolly Roger.
“A man will die horribly, Regina, if we don’t do this. As a member of the Federation council you know how bad Gold is. You know personally how bad Gold is.”
“Yes,” Regina said, her tone impatient as she tapped one manicured finger on the table where she sat. “Which is why I hired this crew in the first place. He’s bought off most of the council and you personally know how invested I am in cutting off the flow of his influence. But I’m not in the business of doling out favors, and I am in the minority on the council. I wish--”
“We don’t have time to wish!” Emma’s hand banged on the cockpit and Ariel hissed. “Killian is being tortured, and what are you going to do, Madame Mills, when Gold comes after you? Or my son?”
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to keep Henry safe.” The edge in Regina’s voice was sharp enough to cut.
“Regina? What’s going--wait. Is that--”
Emma stared.
His eyes looked so much like Neal’s, and the way his mouth curved--but the shape of his face, that was all her.
“Mom?” Henry said. “Mom! Is that really you?”
He beamed and his smile could light up the whole goddamn galaxy.
“Henry,” Emma said. She exhaled, feeling like she hadn’t been breathing until exactly that moment as, for a split second, everything was right with the world again.
“Aunt Belle!” he said with a friendly wave. “It’s so good to see you!”
“And you, Henry,” Belle said, glancing at Regina quickly.
But not quickly enough. “What’s going on?” Henry asked. “Mom, are you safe?”
The moment shattered.
Emma opened her mouth to speak but before she could begin to form the words Ursula stepped in and said, “That depends on Regina, Henry.”
Regina’s eyes flared with anger before an eyebrow went up in grudging respect. There was a swift tilt of her head and then, “I’ll do what I can. But so will you. You get me what I need, do I make myself clear?”
“Understood,” Ursula said, and then made a gesture across her throat as Scarlet cut the feed.
--
“Regina Mills has my son?” Emma kept repeating it. “Regina Mills took my son?”
“No,” Belle said. “That was me.”
Will’s arm wrapped around her shoulder and pulled her close. “I was married to Robert. Not for a long time, he--” Belle shuddered “--it didn’t end well. I couldn’t leave Henry there. And I knew about Killian, about his history with my husband. It was the best I could make of a terrible situation. Henry’s--he’s such a special boy; I knew Killian would want him to be safe, for the sake of his father and their friendship.”
“None of us knew the Cassidy kid was your son,” Will said. “We were after something else entirely. You being on a mission to go after Gold, well--” he shrugged “--it was too good an opportunity to pass up.”
Emma had a sudden flash of Smee’s distinctive red hat in the darkness. Of Killian’s lack of surprise when he’d seen her in the middle of his job.
His willingness to follow her into Gold’s space station.
It clicked.
“Killian got captured on purpose,” Emma said. “Why? What did it have to do with my son? Gold is a killer--”
“Yes, we know,” Ursula said. “That’s why he was supposed to say alive long enough to not get dead.”
“That would involve being rescued,” Emma said.
“Yes,” Ursula said, giving Emma a long look. “It would.”
The lockpick. Emma’s hand flexed.
“It was the best way to get the drop on Gold,” Locksley said. “He’s got superior numbers and firepower, and, well--” He shrugged. “For what it’s worth, Emma, I’m sorry this happened to you.”
“There’s no saying ‘I’m sorry’ in the field,” she snapped.
Will snorted.
Ursula raised an eyebrow.
Emma did not like being used as a diversion.
She was also not a particular fan of irony.
Emma shifted uncomfortably on the bed Dr. Whale had put her in. The problem was, there’s nothing harder in the world when an operation goes bad than doing nothing at all.
Nemo was watching her and she focused her attention on him. “None of that answers my question,” she said.
“Killian used to work with Cassidy,” Nemo said. “Back in his Federation days, before--”
“Before the murder, piracy, smuggling, theft of Federation property, desertion and dereletion of duty?” Emma said. “Shocking.”
“It can be a lot to take in,” Nemo said.
“No, I meant the part about how it was before the crimes and not after,” Emma sighed. “Neal was never much for law abiding.”
But Killian was. Or he had been, once. She’d seen the files.
“Cassidy got mixed up in something terrible,” Nemo said. “Killian got involved to try and pull him out. Made a deal with Gold but the op got burned. Killian’s brother died. Cassidy went back to his dad. Killian was out of choices. He disappeared, and took this ship.”
“How’d he pull that one off?”
“He’s a hell of a captain,” Ursula said.
“He had help from inside, didn’t he?” Emma said.
Belle nodded. “He did. He had help from Regina Mills. Robert always suspected she’d done it purely out of spite against him.”
“Regina--” Emma’s jaw dropped. “Regina Mills? Killian got himself involved in a pissing match between two of the most powerful people in the entire Federation?”
“‘S how we knew you were going after Gold,” Will muttered. “Regina keeps a close eye on him. Once the Cap’n heard you were involved there was no stopping him. Figured the best way to stop Gold was just to get in the middle of it.” His expression darkened. “Shoulda known Gold had something else up his sleeve. Once you end up on the wrong side of one of that man’s deals, there’s no corner of the ‘verse he won’t go searching.”
“Stop scaring the children, Scarlet,” Ursula said. “The ‘verse doesn’t have actual corners.”
Whale snickered.
Emma pulled out the drip and rubbed at the spot on her arm. “What’s next?” she asked.
“Plan B,” Ursula said.
“What’s Plan B?” Ariel chirped.
“I’m working on it,” Ursula sighed.
“Well, obviously we have some tactical goals,” Emma said. “We have a rough approach.”
“Can you do it?” Ariel asked.
“No.” That was Whale. “Probably not.”
“Hey,” Ariel said. “What happened to ‘no man left behind’?”
Whale shook his head and smirked. “Suicide.”
Nemo said nothing but turned his gaze dead on the doctor until the smirk faded and the man shifted his posture and, finally nodded. “Right,” he said. “Plan B it is.”
--
There was a stash of weapons on the galley table. Guns, knives, grenades; it was an arsenal.
Emma was impressed.
Planning a high-level action like this--it required a certain amount of quantitative thinking mixed in with just a hint of immorality and a dash of spite.
That, plus a driving personal desire to keep it going during the downtime.
Emma knew a little something about that.
So did Killian Jones.
But this--”This was all Regina’s doing, wasn’t it? She used him?”
Will snorted and Robin smiled. “It was, but not in the way you’d think,” he said, taking the gun Ursula had just checked and loaded. “The difference between being on the inside and on the outside--it’s all about sanction. Killian lost his. Found out his partners were his enemies and that the world was a much darker place than even he realized. So he found us--a bunch of folk on the wrong side of the law who didn’t hold it against him that he used to be on the right side. It’s the same for him and Regina.”
“You’re only a pawn if you don’t know you’re being played,” Nemo said. “Killian always knows.” He refused Ursula’s proffered gun and reached instead for a pair of knives that he sheathed expertly before he asked, “What about you, Emma?”
What Emma had learned from the so-called right side of the law was that it was bad business to put her faith into anything she couldn’t control. The only person who saved her was her.
“Here’s the thing,” Ursula said, cutting her gaze between Nemo and Emma. “We like to plan our missions with the idea of everyone getting out. You know, together. So why don’t you sit back and let us do the heavy lifting?”
“This is a bad idea,” Emma said instead of answering. “He’ll still have the advantage over you.”
“Everyone always does,” Nemo said. “That’s what makes us special.”
“I thought Operatives weren’t allowed to have associates like the Captain, anyway,” Ursula said. Her eyes were measuring, and Emma--clearly--did not come up to scratch.
“Lovers!” Ariel chimed in.
“We weren’t--” Emma huffed. “I got a good look at the layout on my way out. I had the goddamn blueprints for my infiltration. Let me lead--”
“No.” Ursula said. “We have Belle for that.” But she exchanged glances with Locksley and Scarlet and then sighed. She reached for the table and picked up two grenades, passing them to Emma.
“This is about trust,” Ursula said. “Captain trusts you. But you’ve got your own agenda just like we’ve got ours, so it’s also important to have honor. Do you have honor, Operative Swan?”
That was the other thing: Emma knew this story--about the bad woman and the bad man. The one where bad things happen and then the woman is left to pine away for her handsome hero, waiting for him to come back, for someone to smirk, and to declare it a happy ending. But for Emma Swan, all of the endings she’d been part of were unhappy.
But maybe they didn’t have to be.
Maybe they didn’t need any more time-outs or codenames or dark rooms full of bad ideas.
Maybe this time, they could win.
“We weren’t lovers,” Emma said, meeting Ursula stare-for-stare. “I love him. I am in love with him.”
Ursula’s face didn’t change but something flickered in her eyes as Robin broke out into a genuine smile.
Will Scarlet just shook his head.
“Finally,” he said to no one in particular. “She admits it. Do you know how many stupid jobs Captain made us pull just to keep us in your orbit?”
--
The proximity alert buzzed on the edges of Killian’s consciousness and his fingers clenched, his jaw tightened.
Gold looked up, his face twisted in consternation before he turned to glare at Killian.
“Listen, if you’ve got guests, I can come back later--”
Gold took two steps forward, his cane raised over his head but Killian struck first, pulling his arms from behind his body. He was battered, he was bruised, he was half-dead, but he was walking and upright and advancing on Gold.
“Don’t take another step,” Gold warned.
“I did a job,” Killian said. “You’re not the only one who lost that day. I lost my brother, I lost my livelihood, I lost everything I thought I was.” He took another step. “Tell me, are you familiar with the saying ‘He who knows when he can fight and when he cannot will be victorious’?” He backhanded Gold across the faced and watched him crumple, his mouth bloody, his arms up as he attempted--poorly--to defend himself. Killian shuffled forward and just hit him again, watching Gold hit the floor with some satisfaction--watching him scrabble backward as the last of Killian’s strength started to fade.
--
“Whale, Nemo, and Scarlet are with Belle,” Ursula said. “Locksley and Swan with me. Ariel’s gonna stay here and keep an eye on things.”
“No shooting until it seems like the last resort,” Locksley said.
“Always with your rules,” Ursula said. She turned to the group. “If it moves, shoot it.”
Emma bit her lip and nodded.
“Will, how are we on the override sequence?”
“Pretty sure this will pop the airlock doors, if Robin can make the seal on the first try.”
“So you’ve done this before?” Emma asked, trying--and failing--to tamp down her skepticism.
“Oh, hell no.” Ariel laughed.
“I guess they won’t be expecting us, at least,” Emma said.
“Yeah,” Will said. “That’s because they aren’t insane.”
“Shut up, all of you, and focus,” Ursula said as the airlock opened. “Let’s go get the Captain.”
She leveled her rifle and fired down the corridor; as guards jumped out of the path of the oncoming bullets Emma pulled a grenade from her belt, armed it and let it roll. It bounced off the corridor wall before it exploded. Ursula called out, “Second team!” and Robin covered the corridor as Scarlet, Belle, Nemo and Whale moved out of the airlock.
Will made sure to keep Belle covering behind as he joined the assault, letting off four rounds and finishing with a shot directly in the kneecap of an oncoming guard. He banged into the wall as Will watched, head on a swivel, one eye forward and one eye always following Belle.
“Move out?” he asked Ursula.
She nodded, never lowering her rifle.
Emma strode forward, pushing ahead of Ursula and Robin and ignoring their protests as she did so. “Cover from that side,” Robin called behind her to Ursula. “I’ve got this one.” She blasted back two guards and threw herself at the corridor wall as they returned fire while Ursula dropped the rifle and pulled two handguns from cross-strapped shoulder holsters and pivoted into the fray, firing.
“Swan!” she called. “Grab the keycard!”
--
The door slid open and Ursula and Robin filed in, guns out, eyes on Gold.
Killian only had eyes for Emma.
She was pale and bruised. There was a bandage on her wrist and dried blood on her clothes but when she smiled at him it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in the entire universe, shining more brightly than all of the stars in the sky.
The last of his strength faded and he felt Ursula and Robin behind him, pulling him upright.
Keeping him upright.
Will came in, gun drawn, Belle behind him. Nemo followed behind, knives drawn, and went straight for Gold, keeping him on the ground with a look every time the man shifted.
Belle caught his eye and gestured, the thumb of her right hand pointing up and it was when Gold turned to follow Killian’s gaze that he looked, for the first time, truly defeated.
“Belle?”
Killian toed at Gold’s midsection, wishing he had the strength to give it a good, hard kick.
“Belle, you don’t understand.” He was babbling. “I can explain, I--”
Killian toed him again. “Shut up and listen to the lady, crocodile.”
Belle’s voice was ice. “I used to--I thought I saw something in you. Something good. But then I found something of yours.”
Whale strode in as if on cue, holding up a small object; round and golden and more valuable than all of the credits in the Federation Reserve.
“Holy frak,” Emma said. “Is that--”
It was a compass; or at least, it had the likeness of one. Most people--if they’d heard of them at all--assumed they were a myth, part of the story of the all-knowing Federation.
“You told me that all of this was about your son,” Belle continued. “You told me that it wasn’t about power, or gold, or about anything other than trying to move on knowing that you had gotten justice for your son. About giving Henry the kind of life you wish Neal could have had. But all of that was a lie.”
Belle stepped forward, five-foot-nothing of pure rage as she stared down the man she used to love. “You didn’t care about Henry, and you weren’t using this for revenge. You were using it for money. For power. That’s your true love, and you won’t give it up for anything. Not even for me. That’s why you can’t move on--you never have, and you never will.”
“There’s nothing wrong with power,” Gold whispered. “Not when it means that I--that we--can have it all.”
“I just wanted you,” Belle said, and her voice finally broke as she stepped away, back up against the comfort of Will Scarlet and his drawn weapon, putting it back in between herself and her ex-husband. “I tried to be everything for you, and I lost my way. Not anymore.”
“Belle--”
Emma bent down and pistol-whipped him across the face, knocking Gold unconscious.
Their eyes met and Emma took one step forward and then another. Killian wanted to say something, anything, to explain but the second he opened his mouth Emma hit him.
Hard.
The woman had a right hook like a freight train.
Killian swore he could feel Ursula trying not to laugh as he sighed, heavily.
“I can’t believe this was part of your gorram plan,” Emma hissed. “You stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking---”
“Pirate?” Killian raised his eyebrow. “And who’re you calling ‘scruffy-looking’?”
Emma drew herself up, pushed her shoulders back, reached forward and grabbed him; there was nothing gentle in her movements as she kissed him--as he kissed her--and, as abruptly as it had started, it was over.
Except for the look in her eyes--soft. Hopeful. The smile on her face as Killian grunted and looked at Will and said, “Well, you were right about this being a bad idea.”
“Thanks for saying, sir,” Will deadpanned.
--
“You sanguine about the kind of reception we’re apt to receive here, Captain?” Ursula sounded merely curious as she asked.
“Absolutely,” Killian said. “Hopeful.”
“Item of interest--it also means ‘bloody’,” Ursula muttered.
“We’ve done one of those already today. Least we can do is try the other.” Killian winked.
They weren’t on the civilized part of the world, that’s for sure. Low hills, rocks and sagebrush in a deep valley with the high towers of the city glinting in the distance.
The woman waiting for them didn’t belong here; her clothes were too refined, her makeup was too perfect. She was every inch the high-ranking Councillor she appeared to be, a physical embodiment of the Federation’s power, and she was watching him with a small smile on her face.
It was not a pleasant expression. Emma only barely stopped herself from reaching for her gun.
“Killian Jones.”
The bow he gave her was sweeping and dripping with irony. “Regina Mills,” he said. “At last we meet.”
“We’ve met before,” she said.
“You poisoned me.”
That was news to Emma. She looked to Killian but all of his focus was on Regina Mills.
“You were fine.”
“I was unconscious for three days,” he said.
“I admit we didn’t part on the best of terms,” Regina said, “But that’s the past.”
“Air through the engine,” Killian agreed. “Besides, we understand each other, don’t we?”
“That depends on whether or not you brought me what I asked for.”
“As Her Majesty commands, then,” Killian said with another flourish. Behind him, Ursula and Robin carried Gold. He was bound and gagged. His suit jacket was torn. His shoes were scuffed. There was a large bruise rising on his jaw from where Emma had clocked him.
Regina’s eyes lit up with interest but she said, “That’s not what I paid you for.”
“It’s not,” Killian agreed. “But it’s all you’re getting.” He held up the compass so that it glinted in the sunlight.
Regina moved, as if to stretch out her hand for the compass. “So he really had it, then.”
“He did,” Killian said. “Reckon that’s how he’s been listening in all of this time, collecting his leverage. Making his deals. But now you have him, and I’ll be keeping this.”
“Or what?”
“Or I’ll take Gold, take the ship, take it up into the black and see if he floats when I push him out of the airlock.”
Regina’s expression soured.
“That was not part of our deal,” she said. “You know, Jones, that I can take back everything I’ve given you. I can up the warrants on your head. On your crew’s heads--”
“But you won’t,” Killian said, gesturing at Gold. “This discharges my debt to you, Regina. And this--” he shook the compass for emphasis “--makes us even. Gold doesn’t have it anymore. You come after me or any of us--ever--and I doubt the boy will take kindly to that. Not when his mother will be sailing with us from now on and leaving the employ of the Federation.”
It was Killian’s turn to smile.
“We both made out on this deal, Regina. Don’t complicate things. Not between us, not when the boy is involved. You take Gold. We’ll keep this. Emma can see her son, and we will continue to work for you when the opportunity suits. Everybody wins.”
Emma moved so that they were shoulder-to-shoulder and took his hand in hers. She squeezed it and felt his hand twist until his fingertips brushed her wrist.
Regina watched them, her expression bemused.
“That’s how it is, then?”
“Depends,” Killian said, making an exaggerated shrug. “She hit me.”
“Knowing you, I’m sure you deserved it,” Regina said with a smirk. “I keep Henry?”
It broke Emma’s heart, but Regina was his best chance.
At least now she knew where he was--would be able to see him, to be a part of his life.
“Yes,” she said. “He stays here, with you.”
A tension she hadn’t realized was there left Regina’s posture then, and Emma felt herself relax in turn.
“We understand each other, also, Regina,” Emma said.
“Thank you, Miss Swan.” Regina gestured.
Emma heard footsteps; she closed her eyes and caught her breath and, finally, turned.
Henry was racing toward her--toward them--and wrapped himself around her with a shriek.
Behind her, Emma heard Killian say, “Are you always this sentimental?”
“You caught me on a good day,” Regina said.
Emma had been beaten, tortured and used--had broken her own heart, given up her job and her life and fallen in with criminals and spies.
But her son was in her arms and the man she loved was by her side.
It wasn’t much.
But it was enough.
A good day, indeed.

The Way of Time (Rdr2 fanfic) - Chapter 3 (1/2)
I don’t think you actually care about it, but I’ve chosen to write my Bachelor’s Degree Thesis about “Anglo-American Travel and Travel Writing in Italy”. Anglo-American folks, do you see? This is how much I love you guys!
Tumblr media
Previously on TWoT: The thaw finally gives the VdL gang the possibility to move from Colter. Emily jumps on a wagon and enjoys the ride southward. In the meantime she gets the chance to know some of the members better. She finds more about their past, about their personalities, she is more and more interested in Arthur, the grumpy cowboy with the fairytale name, and she starts to appreciate them despite the fact that they are criminals. Now it is time to understand how things in their camp work.
Chapter 3 (1/2) - On the road
Words: 3k
On the road to Valentine, Emily found more than her love for the country, she found out she had new friends, some new kind of family, an uncommon family, a crazy family, a family of outlaws. She didn’t see it in these terms, of course, but we all know how it works with the Van der Linde gang: once you start getting attached, you’ll never let them go.
Anyway, at that moment, she couldn’t believe her own feelings. She had alway despised criminals: she believed laws were made for a reason, which is being followed, she hated thieves because she thought they took away the product of honest people’s work, not to mention murderers, who were nothing more than the worst kind of thieves, because they stole our most precious thing, our life.
So, how could she feel that way? She felt pity for them, for their stories, she felt emotionally attached to Hosea, who talked to her like a father, even better than her real father actually, she had to admit shamefully, because she had never had that kind of talk with him and he had never made her feel that way. In her house, her mother was the backbone of the family.
And then there was that Mr. Arthur, with his sarcasm and “tough and rough”way to do things, and handsome, again she had to admit that too. And Mary-Beth, she looked like the perfect friend, when she would open up a little - she probably was a little shy. And little Jack, she liked that kid too.
So, on the road to Valentine, Emily found more than her love for the country, she found out that people are people, no matter what they’ve done in their life, and that good and evil sometimes overlap.
“What’s this place called again?” asked Arthur.
“Horseshoe Overlook” answered Hosea.
“It’s a good place to lie low?”
“It’ll do for now. And how long do you think Dutch is going to lie low?”
“W-wait, I though you said we were going to Valentine” Emily stepped in.
“It’s a place near Valentine, yes” replied Hosea.
“But… we won’t stay in the city?”
“How do you think we can make twenty people stay in the city?” asked Mr. Morgan.
“And we have to hide, the law is still looking for us, we can’t risk to catch too much attention” added Hosea.
“I don’t understand, why are they looking for you?” she asked.
“On the left here, Arthur. Up the hill” Hosea said pointing at the left path at the crossroad. Then, he sighed and made a little pause before he explained her their situation.
We all know about the ferry job in Blackwater, how it all went to hell and how Dutch killed an innocent girl “in a bad way”, how Javier tells it. And we know how they had to flee from Blackwater because of the Pinkertons, and how some of them didn’t make it.
Emily remained silent after Hosea told her all this. She was thinking not about the fact that they had stolen a lot of money from that ferry, but about the amount of people who died for that theft. That girl on the ferry, that Davey and that Jenny in the mountains, not to mention all the people they had to shoot to get out of Blackwater. And from the way Hosea was talking about it, she could tell he wasn’t proud of how things had gone.
“Why you do that? Why are you criminals? Can’t you just… change your life?” she asked.
“That’s what we’re trying to do. Make enough money so we can buy some land out in the West and start a new life” answered Hosea.
“But why you have to steal it, can’t you take a loan from the bank or something like that?”
Hosea and Arthur chuckled.
“You’ll soon learn Dutch isn’t fond of the American government, and the bankers, and the industrialists, and everybody else who has just a little power on this land.”
Emily couldn’t understand what Hosea was telling her, she couldn’t understand what Dutch really wanted. He wanted a new life? He wanted to be a criminal? He wanted to fight the government? He reminded her of Robin Hood, but instead of taking from the rich to give to the poor, he took from everybody to give to his family.
After the climb up the hill, they found themselves in a plain ground where the path was surrounded by trees, and the more they followed it the thicker the trees became, until Arthur pulled the reins and made the wagon stop.
“There you are brother.”
Emily raised her head and looked at the man who had spoken, the one with the parted mustache and bowler hat, laying his back on a big rock at the edge of the road.
“Head in there and follow the track for a bit” he said pointing to a little side path among the trees.
Then, he reached the back of the wagon and hopped in.
“Okay, let’s go” he said with a gesture of his hand.
Emily looked at him and smiled. From close up, she could perfectly tell he came from some place in the South, like Colombia, or Mexico, or maybe Brazil. He also had a strange accent when he spoke, so she was pretty sure he wasn’t from there.
“Where do you come from, Mr…?”
“Javier, Escuella. Mexico.”
“Oh, I would’ve said something like Cuba. Do you like in here?”
“Yeah, I do. It’s a good country.”
“Are you gonna ask everybody about their lives?” said Mr. Morgan with annoyance.
Again, Emily couldn’t understand why he had to be so grumpy. She was just trying to have a conversation, know better the people she was gonna spent some time with.
“Why do you care, Mr. Morgan?” she laughed.
“I’m just afraid you’ll start make me insistent and annoying questions” he replied.
“Don’t worry, from now on I’ll avoid you like the plague” she joked.
Both him and Hosea chuckled.
“So, any trouble getting in here, Javier?” asked the latter.
“No, it went well. This is a good spot” he replied.
“Excellent. I think this will work for us, for now anyway.”
“Were are we going to sleep?” asked Emily as the thought of another night on the ground was starting to worry her.
“We got tents. It’s not like sleeping in the best hotel in town, I know, but it’s not the worst, either. You’ll get used to it” answered Hosea.
“Tents like… like camping?”
In that moment she understood what Dutch meant by “camp” when they had rescued her the day before. And yes, her fear had just been confirmed: she had to sleep on the ground, again.
“See for yourself. Here we are, home sweet home” Hosea said and at the same time the path into the woods ended and a clearing opened at their sight.
Mr. Arthur made the wagon stop again and Emily took a deep breath before standing up.
Javier was waiting for her, with his hand ready to be taken to help her getting down. It was the most courteous thing anybody had ever done for her and she looked at him with surprise for a moment before taking it.
“You weren’t wrong, Hosea. This place is perfect!” she heard the loud and thundering voice of Dutch saying.
“I hope so” replied Hosea.
“Hey, were have you been?”
She had just jumped down the wagon and she turned around to meet Mary-Beth’s eyes: she had removed the heavy coat and headscarf and she was wearing a pink shirt on a mauve long skirt.
Actually, the weather there was way better, the temperature warmer, and Emily didn’t felt anymore in need to wear that bottle-green woolen coat.
“I stayed behind with Hosea. You’ve already settled the camp” she stated looking at the tents around her.
“There’s still a lot to do. Come, I’ll show you around” said Mary-Beth taking one of the crates from the wagon and leading the way.
...
They walked through the tents, passing right in front of Abigail, who was bringing another carpet inside of hers.
“Hi Abigail!” Emily exclaimed.
Abigail answered with a smile before entering her tent, where she opened and left the carpet among the others on the ground next to John, sleeping on the cot thanks to the reverend’s morphine.
“We’ll sleep here” said Mary-Beth showing her their place, with the four bedrolls on the two big carpets.
“What, here?” she heard Emily ask as she left the crate under the tent.
“Yes.”
“We don’t have a tent?”
Mary-Beth looked at her and then pointed at the large piece of cloth above their heads.
“This is our tent.”
“I mean a real tent. Like that one” Emily said pointing at John’s tent.
“Only Dutch and John have those.”
“Why?”
“Because they are… they are…”
Emily and Mary-Beth looked at each other in the eye, exchanging a meaningful look. They both knew it wasn’t exactly right to leave the women sleep on the ground and out in the open air while they had all the privacy and comfortable cots they wished, but there were rules.
“So there is some kind of hierarchy here, like… they are on the top and all of us down here?”
“No, Dutch is the leader, and then Hosea, Arthur and John, then the men, then Miss Grimshaw and then us.”
“So it’s a patriarchal totalitarianism?”
Mary-Beth frowned, not understanding what she wanted to say with those big words.
“Never mind. There is a place I can wash?” Emily asked taking off the coat she had given her.
“If you want to have a bath, we have to go to town, or if you aren’t squeamish you can wash in the stream, but you won’t have much privacy there.”
Emily opened her mouth in astonishment and Mary-Beth was pretty sure she was about to say something outraged, but right at that moment Dutch called them all.
“Come it’s time for the speech” she said to the new girl.
“The speech?”
“I know that things have been tough, but we are safe now and we are far too poor” was saying Dutch as they both reached his tent quickly, where the rest of the group had gathered.
The speech was the same as always: we all need to work, no more passengers, bring some food, share what you got with the gang, be careful, don’t catch too much attention.
They had almost finished with the usual bunch of encouraging words when Mary-Beth felt the sleeve of her shirt pulled and turning her head she saw Emily looking at her with an expression she couldn’t make out.
As the speech ended and the people scattered, going back to their works, trying to make that place livable, she turned to face the new girl.
“What?” she asked.
“I have to pee.”
...
She hadn’t drunk a single drop of water, and the extreme cold of the mountain had forced her body to keep all on the inside, but when she removed that coat it was like every single muscle relaxed and it came altogether. She needed a bathroom.
That speech was nothing more that a series of rules they apparently had to follow: go around, make some money - even though she had no idea how to do that - put some in the box, bring some food…
What the heck did “bring some food” mean? Couldn’t they go to the market and just buy things like all normal people do? It was 1899, so she supposed markets and stores already existed.
She couldn’t restrain herself anymore, so as soon as they finished with that dictatorial shit, Emily pulled Mary-Beth’s sleeve.
“What?”
“I have to pee.”
“Well then, go in the woods.”
Emily widened her eyes and for a moment she was about to laugh, but then she understood Mary-Beth wasn’t joking.
“But…what about a toilet? Don’t you…” but she stopped halfway of her sentence.
How were toilets in 1899? Did they have them?
“If you have to go, go in the woods” repeated Mary-Beth.
“What about toilet paper?”
Mary-Beth raised her eyebrows and nodded.
“Yes, come” she said and leaded her back to her tent, their tent, how she had to call it from now on.
She went to the back of the wagon right behind the place they were going to sleep and opened a box from which she took a roll of paper very similar to the one they used in 2020, just a little different in color and consistency.
“Here, don’t use too much, this thing is expensive” said Mary-Beth as Emily took a couple of sheets.
“Are you sure you have no toilets?” she asked still full of hope.
“I have no idea what that means.”
Emily looked at her freckled face trying to find another word to make her understand, when it suddenly came to her mind.
“Restrooms” she exclaimed with a snap of her fingers.
“Restrooms?” asked a voice from behind her.
She turned around and met Karen’s bewildered expression.
“Where men go to make their things?”
“And women don’t?” asked Emily.
“I’m afraid not. Only men can use them” Mary-Beth informed her.
“And we don’t have one, you can find it…”
“In town. Yes, I got it” Emily said with a puff.
There was one reason why she never went camping with her friends: lack of bathrooms.
Sleeping on the ground for a couple of days, she could endure that. Cooking things on a campfire, that could be fun. Bugs and wild animals, unless it was something extremely disgusting like cockroaches, it was fine. But bathrooms… No place to wash properly, no private space to do her things, she couldn’t stand that, and yet there she was.
“I can’t believe I just did that” she murmured to herself walking out of the woods.
As the shadow casted by the trees ended and she stepped in the sunlight, Emily looked at the camp in front of her standing against the endless background of the Heartlands. She had heard of that place, one of the most beautiful of all the States, but she didn’t expect it to be like that, and the tents they had settled fitted perfectly with the general view. The rurality and simplicity of that sight made her feel like she was in some kind of movie, and made her curious to see how those people lived their everyday life.
She started wandering around: she exchanged a smile with Javier Escuella, asked to Mary-Beth what she was reading, peeked inside Dutch’s tent, the most articulate and comfortable of all the tents, which sight made her a little angry, then she stopped for a while to watch Charles Smith chopping the wood for the campfire, and in the end she approached a table, where Uncle and the big man with the long brown beard were seated.
“Hello” she said sitting next to them on one of the upside-down barrels, and noticing they both had a bottle of what seemed to be beer in their hands, she thought it was a little too early for drinking.
“Hello, dear. Oh! I got something for you” chuckled Uncle standing up and leaving.
“W-what…” she stuttered moving her eyes from Uncle’s back stumbling away to the other man, who shrugged.
“Isn’t it a little too early for that?” she asked pointing at his bottle.
“Mind your business!”
He had a growling angry voice that made her jump on her seat when he snapped in that way.
“Hey, I was just saying. Sorry if I offended you.”
“Your the one who says you come from the future, right?”
Emily sighed and looked away.
“Yes” she murmured.
“So you know how things will go? Like, what will become of the West?”
Emily fixed her eyes on the man’s face, asking herself what were his intentions, if he was just playing with her, or if the beer he was drinking had already gone way up to his head.
“I mean” he whispered leaning forward on the table and as a reflex Emily did the same so that now their faces were really close and she could smell the alcohol in his breath.
“Will it stay untamed?”
Emily considered what she had to reply to him: the truth, the hard truth, or a lie?
“We’ll we have the chance to live free?”
He looked like he was truly believing in the fact that she came from the future.
“For the first question: no, the West will be tamed in the end. For the second, I don’t know what to tell you, I’m not a fortune teller.”
The man withdrew from her, looking at her with wary eyes and the same did she, still not sure if he was drunk or anything else.
“Here, my dear.”
Emily turned to Uncle as he sat down again.
“You forgot these on the wagon this morning” he said giving her the oatcakes tin box. “What was Mr. Williamson here telling you?”
“I’m not sure” she replied narrowing her eyes to look at the big man, while he took a sip from his bottle.
“Anyway, thank you for these, Uncle” she said standing up.
“No big deal, no big deal at all.”
Emily headed to what she supposed to be the camp kitchen since Mr. Pearson the cook was there with a big pot on a table putting things inside it. She smiled as he noticed her, but she didn’t stop to talk and opened the tin box to take an oatcake from it.
Chewing happily for the recover of her source of nourishment she kept walking around the kitchen until she found something that took her smile away. There was a man, someone who she had never seen before, tied to a tree like he was some kind of prisoner. She walked closer, pushed both by the curiosity and the pity for that figure.
“Please, please, water” he whispered without looking at her and she immediately turned around looking left and right and asking herself where could she find water.
Then, she stopped, thinking about the reason why that man was tied, why he was a prisoner. Maybe he was a bad man, a dangerous man, and the fact that she was in a camp of criminals could only make her wonder how dangerous he had to be, if they were so scared by him that they had to tie him up. Emily decided that she didn’t want to find out and taking another bite from her oatcake she walked away as fast as she could.

Oneshot? Daminette Oneshot!
OKay, you see, I’ve been reeaaallly wanting to write about people crying for a while now for some reason (don’t ask me why I legit don’t even know). So I thought, why not make a oneshot? So BOOM! here it is! (even though I should've been writing my other Daminette and/or Maribat fics)
Anyway, I just learned that writing about people crying SUCKS! Like, why is it so effing hard???? Why did no one warn me about this??? (I mean I should’ve seen it coming either way because EVeRYTHING ABOUT WRITING is hard). So I am very sorry in advance if this isn’t as good as it... whatever it is??? hahahaha because I gotta tell you, I just did this on a whim because WRITER’S BLOCK! THAT DUDE IS SO ANNOYING!!!
Oh and you know, I’m not sure if this is considered angst? Angst with Happy Ending?... So I just researched about it and asked ma chérie belle and she said yes? But I’m still not sure so I’m just going to tag it as one.
Anywho, umm the first part of my Daminette Age Gap AU just received 400 loves (that’s what I want to call it cuz I think it’s cute leave me be!) so let’s just say that the sole purpose of this oneshot is to satisfy my craving for crying stuff and to celebrate those 400 loves (thank god for convenient coincidences) that I received from you wonderful peeps!!!!
Enjoy~!
Warning: Swearing and cuss words are present. Please read with caution, thank you!
I’m Not Scared Of Anything, But Losing You Would Be Terrifying
Cruising down the alleyway with his Father right beside him in his Batmobile, the sirens of police cars rang in his ears.
They had received a call from Commissioner Gordon not too long ago, saying how Scarecrow had escaped from Arkham and is causing havoc in a café somewhere. It would’ve been fine to just leave it with the GCPD and a few from their team but some reported that he was making a new concoction of his Fear Gas. Something much more intense.
Skidding to a stop, he takes off his helmet and walks to where his Father and the police were conversing.
“Robin.” the Dark Knight nods to him as he places himself next to his looming figure.
Crossing the police tape and getting inside the café, Robin comes face to face with Scarecrow. A gun in his hand, pointing at the hostages as he laughs maniacally.
“Scarecrow!” Batman calls from beside him, “Enough is enough! Let them go!”
The villain throws his head back and laughs loudly, earning a snarl from both of the vigilantes.
“You see, dear Batman,” —Scarecrow raises his gun— “I’ve been wanting to try my new experiment.” he smirks at them and cocks his gun with his other hand.
“And you’re just the right person for the job.”
Not a second after, his goons began ambushing them.
Three goons began to circle him with their guns in hand and a demented smile on their face. If he hadn’t seen Scarecrow command them himself, he might’ve thought that the Joker was the one leading the attack.
With quick work with his Batarangs, he swiftly flings their guns out of their grasps.
Seeing as how they’re disarmed; one goon throws a punch to his face. Robin’s hand immediately shots out and blocks his punch and twists it in a direction he was sure was not possible an arm could handle.
The goon screams in anguish, which gives Robin a momentum to punch him square in the face with his free hand and watches as the goon's nose drip with blood.
Dropping the now passed out goon, he turns to the other two goons and kneels down and pulls out a Bo Staff.
Letting out a battle cry, he lunges at them and whacks them to their side, which throws them to a few tables. The sound of cracks bringing satisfaction to his ears.
Finishing the goons, he turns to Scarecrow and sees him still sporting that smug smirk on his face. What’s his motive? Why is he still smiling even though they’re practically beating up his henchmen?
They briefly catch each other’s eyes and the villain’s smile grows even wider.
Robin scowls at the villain and readies himself in a battle stance.
Without even having the chance to take a step forward, Scarecrow raises his gun and shoots at his direction.
Quickly sidestepping the bullet, he looks back at the villain, “You should really work on your aim.”
Scarecrow smirks at him mockingly, “Was I really aiming for you?”
What?
He looks behind him and sees a tank of Scarecrow’s Fear Gas punctured by his bullet.
Holy shit.
His eyes widen and he reaches to his utility belt to pull out a gas mask, but before he was able to put it on his face, a goon tackles him to the ground. Causing him to loosen his grip on the said mask.
“Fuck!” he mutters as he tries to wrestle free from the goon’s hold. “Get off me!”
As he struggles to be free, he feels the mist cloud his vision. Blurring his surroundings and making everything indistinguishable.
“Get up!” he hears someone yell at his ears and the goon that was holding onto him disappears.
He abruptly stands and closes his eyes shut. Clenching his jaw, he reminds himself that none of what he’ll see is real. To dismiss everything and pay it no mind because they are not real.
His breath becomes ragged and his heart thunders against his chest as he hears voices around him.
‘None of this is real!’ he chants to himself and covers his ears.
The sounds slowly began dissipating and everything went quiet. Too quiet.
“Damian!” an angelic voice suddenly cuts through the silence and calls out to him.
‘Habibti?’
He slowly and warily opens his eyes and is immediately met with a different environment.
Gone was the café he was previously in; he was now in a park surrounded by trees and some benches on the side. The sun was also shining brightly and the birds were chirping. Everything seemed perfect. Too perfect.
He looks down at himself and sees that he’s no longer wearing his Robin uniform but regular civilian clothing.
‘What am I doing here?’
“Listen to me!” the sweet voice calls out to him again.
“Wha—?”
“Look at me!” the voice shouts again and he feels his every being shake. Making him lose his balance and fall on the floor.
“Marinette?” he calls out and looks around. Where was she?
Whipping his head around, he is immediately met with a mop of blue-black hair.
Relief floods his whole being as he stands up and goes over to her, “Hey, I’m here,” he smiles and reaches for her hand.
“No!” Marinette shouts and slaps his hand away. Only then did he notice that her comforting gaze had turned into a sharp glare. Her beautiful blue bell orbs gone as a dark sapphire blue filled with anger replaced it. Why was she looking at him like that? Had he done something wrong?
“H-Habibti—?”
“Stop calling me that!” he winces at her tone and Marinette’s scowl deepens. Her hands ball into fists that he was afraid she’d cut her skin with her nails.
“W-What are you—?” he hastily reaches out to her once more.
“SHUT UP!” she shouts and everything shook again. Her face, still sporting that scowl, looks at him with disgust.
“I can’t believe I ever dated you,” she spat and steps back.
Damian recoils as though he’s been slapped in the face. He feels a twinge in his chest as though his heart has been pinched and punctured. No, please. She's the only thing that stayed in his life, don’t let her go now. Please.
“Marinette,” he calls as his hands reach out to her again, in to which Marinette avoided in distaste.
Seeing how angry and disgusted she looked at him made something inside of him shatter. Was he that horrible to make her not want him touch to her? Was he that disgusting?
“Mari—”
“I can’t even stand to look at you right now.” he flinches as though he just received a punch to his gut. He wanted nothing more than to scoop her in his arms and cry and ask what he’d done wrong, but he can’t do that when she’s sneering at him with abhorrence.
“I hate you, Damian,” she glowers in that tone that he hated so much. The one that he never wanted to be directed at him. But now it was.
He drops down to his knees and crawls to her feet, “I’m sorry,” he cries out.
Tears began to pool at the corner of his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he repeats in a strangled voice. But Marinette won’t even look at him anymore.
“W-Whatever it was, I’m sorry,” he choked out as he pleaded at her feet.
Marinette kicked at his hand away and seethed, “Don’t touch me,” she hissed as though his touch was dirty. He was dirty.
“I don’t ever want to see you again,” he blanches at her statement. His hands shook as big blobs of tears drip down his face. His heart beating sporadically as his ears rang with how everything seems to sound louder.
“Plea—”
“We’re through.”
Everything felt numb. He couldn’t feel anything, couldn’t hear anything. Just that phrase repeating itself over and over again in his head. More tears began flowing down his face and he felt like he could drown, like he couldn’t breathe.
He couldn’t believe that he’d one day hear those words. That those pink lips, those very same lips that he would kiss senselessly, would say that to him.
Marinette glares at him one last time and walks away, leaving him with his despair and depression eating him up.
He had always wished that this day would never come. But not all wishes come true. And now, he’s watching as the girl of his dreams, the love of his life, his girlfriend for four years leaves him. Leaves him and never comes back.
“P-Please,” he sobs as he reaches out to her disappearing form. “I promise, I’ll do better. Please, just don’t leave me.”
He stands up and attempts to run after her. But he couldn’t. Hands were holding onto him and stopping him from running after the bluenette. Feeling like the whole world was against it. Like they wanted to see him suffer.
“No!” he shouts and thrashes around, trying to get the hands, that bound him to where he stood, off. Why were they so against it? So against him? Did the world really not want him to be happy?
“Please,” he wails and just stands there, letting his tears fall as the world takes away the only thing that made him feel free.
He stood there and broke down as he watched his love disappear from his world; from his life. He cries out and screams shamelessly as he mourns for her dying love for him. As he hears and feels his own heart break from her rejection.
And he feels it. Feels their stares. Feels the whole world taunting him on how he just lost the only person who’d stayed by his side and accepted him. Making fun of how they knew he couldn’t do anything about it. How he was powerless.
He shuts his eyes tight and slides to the ground, wishing that this was all just a dream...
No.
This is not a dream. Because dreams are beautiful.
This is a nightmare.
As he sits there and cries for Marinette, he feels a small prick on the back of his neck. And another. And a third. Then the slight cloudiness of his mind disappears as everything went black.
————————
Fluttering his eyes open, Damian is met with a white ceiling and warmness on his face as the sunlight crept through the window.
He lets out a groan and rubs the side of his head.
‘Where am I?’
Roaming his eyes to check where he was, a flash of recognition comes across his green orbs. He was in his room. How?
A soft click resounded from the door and captures his attention as a blue-black blur emerges, seeming to be whispering with something at the door.
‘What’s going on?’
He rubs at his eyes and groans again. Everything was bleary and his mouth felt rough and dry. What was he doing here? Back in his room? Wasn’t he at a café before?
“Dami?” he flinches at the voice and feels a warm sensation on his forehead.
‘What is this?’
Damian reaches up to the warm... thing on his forehead and grasps it, trying to feel what it was. Was it... a hand? Why was there a hand touching his forehead? Wasn't he alone in his room?
Furrowing his eyebrows, he looks up to see a black—kind of blue—blob?... What the fuck?! Wha—What is this? What exactly is he seeing right now?
He raises his arm and tries to grab at the blueish black blob. And by grab, he meant fight. He was fighting to get the hand on his forehead off. Fighting to reach for the blue-black blob.
“Dove, calm down,” the blob speaks as it holds on to both of his hands to steady them. “It’s just me.”
Suddenly, his eyesight began clearing. The blurry things that he was seeing were no more, everything began getting clearer.
The blue-black blob that he was trying to fight (and he was definitely not losing) was finally turning comprehensible.
His eyes widen at the thing—correction, person in front of him. His breath hitching and his heart beating against his chest as he stares at those familiar blue bell eyes.
“Habibti?”
Marinette smiles softly at him. That same smile she always used to tell him that everything is all right. That smile that always seemed to make him feel calm, no matter the situation.
“Yes, it’s me.”
Damian chokes out a sob and feels his tears pour down his cheeks again. He reaches out to her and buries his face on her chest, trying to relish the feeling as he was afraid that everything—that this might just be a dream.
“Oh, dear.” he hears her mutter and feels her hand pat his head and smoothen his dark locks of hair. And it eased him a little. Made him feel that he was not hallucinating and that he was safe.
“I heard what happened,” she says in that tone, that voice that sounds so soft and caring that it made him cry harder. “Your brothers said that you inhaled Scarecrow’s new concoction of Fear Toxin and that it was so strong, they had to triple the dosage of the antidote.”
Marinette continues to rub circles on his back and cradle him back and forth as he continues to cry. Making him feel like he was a child, safe in his beloved's arms.
“I wish I could have been there,” she whispers and holds him tighter. Something that made him feel safe and away from the world, even if her arms were dainty and delicate. “Could have helped you.”
Damian feels his emotions and cries come back tenfold as he remembers what he saw when he was still influenced by the Fear Toxin. How hurt and devastated he was. How his whole world fell apart.
“I-I thought—” he hiccups, “—you were going to leave me.” he sobs harder and feels the spot on her shirt where he was crying go wet.
“No.” she pulls away from him just a bit and looks at his face, “I will never leave you.” her voice so raw with emotion, so sincere that it made him cry and thank whoever was up there that they are together.
She reaches up to his face and caresses his cheek, “I love you.” she smiles and kisses his forehead. Her lips so soft against his skin that he sometimes wondered if he just so much as to touch it the wrong way, would it tear open and bleed a pretty red color?
“I love you too.” he croaks out as he feels his voice go hoarse with all the crying. God, if his brothers could see him now, they’d for sure tease him for the rest of his life.
————————
OMAKE:
Marinette – *is lying down with Damian tucked in her arms* Wanna tell me about it?
Damian – ...It was terrifying.
Marinette – I thought you said you were fearless?
Damian – *pouting* I am! But that was seriously horrifying!
Marinette – Don’t you mean SCAREy?
Damian – UGH
Marinette – HAHAHAHA XD
Damian – You have got to stop hanging out with Grayson

May flowers were blooming, and the hot June sun was soon approaching, threatening the cool temperature of the little log cabin by the cliff. The clouds blew passed overhead as the sun touched the highest point in the sky and slowly fell back down to earth.
Severus was laying on the blue picnic blanket in just his white shirt and trousers, intertwining his fingers over his chest while listening to the birds chirp and fly, fluttering away from the small dog that barked in the distance. He sighed and turned to the beautiful woman resting beside him. He propped up his head with his arm and moved a slender finger of her cheek, making her smile.
“How hot does it get here?”
She laughed and opened an eye at him, “Worried you won’t be able to wear only black for much longer?”
“Perhaps… I was thinking of putting cooling charms throughout the house. Care to help me?”
She sat up, pushing him back onto the blanket and pressed her lips to his, smiling, “It’ll get too cold – ”
“I can handle that. Besides,” he pulled her in closer, “All that means is you’ll have to stay more often to keep me warm.”
She bit her lip, catching that twinkle in his eyes, “I’ll keep you real warm.”
Severus stood up and offered to clean up the picnic while she fetched her dog, who was getting more and more annoying as the days went on. He tracked mud when it rained, he barked every morning and night and when any squirrel decided to prance by the house… he even managed to wedge between him and the woman at night.
He rubbed his neck and winced, remembering the night before, having to make room for the mutt by sleeping in a highly uncomfortable position. He rolled the blanket in his arms and stuffed it in the basket. The woman walked back to him with the dog in her arm and took his hand, leading him down the hill towards his home.
“Do we have to put the cooling charms everywhere today?”
Severus rolled his eyes, “The bedroom at the very least.”
She dropped the dog inside and closed the door, turning, “You get started, I’ll make us some lunch.”
Severus nodded and headed up the stairs to the bedroom, wand in hand ready to add the charms. It was far messier than he had expected, forgetting that last night she hadn’t gone home so there was no need for her to pack her things. All her clothes were either on the floor, on the night stand, or on the bed, along with his coat.
He chuckled to himself and got to work on charming the window, door, and walls along with floor and ceiling to keep the hot air out and the air around them cool. He lifted his arms for one last charm and winced, rubbing his shoulder and neck where it hurt.
“I’ll close the door so he won’t get in tonight,” the woman entered and placed a tray of sandwiches on the nightstand. “How sore is it?”
“Very,” he hissed, touching a particularly rough spot.
She stepped closer and hugged him from behind, kissing him and rubbing his chest with her hands, “I can help with that, you know.” She laughed and pushed him down on the bed, kneeling behind him on the mattress.
“If I turn out worse than before, I’ll poison you,” he growled.
“Your little jars and dead crawly things don’t scare me anymore – ”
He could hear the smile in her voice.
“ – You can act tough, but I know how you really get in bed.”
He knew she was winking. He shook his head and sighed, letting her arms reach around him to unbutton the shirt he wore. She unbuttoned half and pulled down the shirt collar, revealing his shoulders to the encroaching night air.
He felt her thumbs push into his back and neck, and he couldn’t help but groan as she rubbed slow circles into his tender muscles. She laughed and kissed his head as she worked, which was surprisingly helping his pain. His groans got louder as she reached his shoulders, pushing harder than she had been previously.
“Yeah. That hurts differently,” he gripped the mattress and dropped his head. He couldn’t count the amount of times he wished she could have done this for him in his Hogwarts office after hours of reading awful essays.
“Why don’t you sleep in my bed this time? Just once?”
He sighed, “No.” He didn’t mean to make his voice so menacing, but he couldn’t let the relationship go that far. First, he would be sleeping over there forced to get to know her more intimately, then he’d be hearing her name, and beyond that was her finding out about him which he could never let happen. “No,” he said softer.
Her hands fell to her side and she sat down behind him, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him back to lay on her. He let his head rest on her shoulders and closed his eyes.
“I’ve been sleeping in your bed for weeks… How much longer are you planning on keeping me at arms distance? You clearly care for me and I care for you so…”
Severus shut his eyes tighter, knowing she was right. He liked her a lot. Much more than he had anticipated, but he still couldn’t let his past creep up on him. He didn’t want to talk about the war. Nor the years spent as a spy, Not to mention having to explain being a Death Eater.
Everything was so simple when he didn’t have a name and no past… Except he kept wondering about hers. What is her name? Why was she in London? Is she from here originally? What’s her name? These were all questions he wanted answers to. He wanted to know her favorite color, her favorite fruit, if she preferred the summer or the winter… Even what the dog’s name was…
“You might not like me if I told you who I was just last month,” Severus sat back up and pulled his shirt on properly, buttoning it up, and stood. “My life is better like this. It’s finally better… And I won’t – ” his words caught in his throat and he shook his head.
He picked his coat off the bed and put it on, buttoning it up as he walked down the stairs. In the few weeks they had been semi-living together, she had gifted him a comfortable chair to read his book in. He had barely picked it up around her because every time he did, she would laugh in the background, though she assured him it wasn’t because of the book itself. It was because of how red he got when she caught him with it.
He sat down and picked up the book, turning to the next page.
‘Robin cried into the arms of her oldest friend, not wanting to believe how loyal they were to their friendship. Stephano picked her small body off the ground, holding her to his muscly bare chest. Her friend said their goodbye and left, promising to come by often.’
The woman walked into the room with her arms crossed, frowning at him. He glanced up and lifted the book higher, unwilling to continue their discussion.
“What’s the alternative – ”
“Give. It. A rest!” Severus shut the book and turned away, staring instead at the small dog licking himself. He groaned and turned back to his book.
“What I’m saying is,” she walked forward and placed a hand on his shoulder, “I… I really, really like you. And I don’t want to call you a stranger still in a year let alone… five! – or some other large and scary number.”
His eyes flickered to her face, seeing a small smile playing at her lips. He hadn’t considered what things would be like in a year, but he certainly hadn’t thought she would want to stay for that long, Let alone five.
He figured she’d get tired of him in a month. Actually, he thought the potions ingredients he had brought with him would creep her out enough to make her leave, but all she did was make a gagging noise and offer to get the bed ready for sleeping while he put them away. And she doesn’t mind when I spend all day long reading, which is his main activity – although he has enjoyed the walks, and picnics, helping with dinner, even playing with her dog…
“I – ” he groaned, “I’ll let you tell me the dog’s name.”
She threw her head back and laughed. “It’s Jiggy.”
The dog barked and came running, wagging his tail and pawing at Severus’ leg.
“‘Jiggy’?”
She scratched behind Jiggy’s ears and nodded, “As a pup he did this weird sort of dance, but he stopped, and I can’t get him to do it anymore.”
He nodded slowly, wishing he hadn’t been told, but hoped that would end the conversation. Of course, he was wrong and it was brought up again during dinner, while they changed into their pajamas, and while they brushed their teeth together.
Severus crawled under the covers quickly and shut his eyes immediately, trying to pretend he was too tired to talk, “Good night.”
She crawled in after him and sat, looking down at him and shaking her head. “Are you always this stubborn?”
“More so during the summer.”
She slid farther down and pushed him onto his back, though he kept his eyes closed. She started pecking his face, kissing softly. He parted his mouth and felt her lips on his instantly and hummed, loving the way she kissed him so sweetly.
“I thought you were too tired,” she teased.
He opened his eyes and moved her closer, “Is this not what you wanted?”
He pulled her on top of him and let her continue her attack on his lips while he pulled the sheets higher to conceal them in warmth. She pulled his night shirt up and placed herself perfectly on top of him. He let her do all the work while they kissed, perfectly content with everything she did.
When he had last thought of what relationships would be like, he had been quite certain that sex would be the highlight of it. And although they were intimate most every night like spellbound lovers, he came to realize that it was only the cherry on top of everything she had to offer. He thought more about what she had said before. He wanted all this to last well over a year… In fact, I want this to last well over five…
He was pulled back to reality by her moans and couldn’t help but join her. Her head was bent over his chest and he could smell the sweet shampoo she always used. He gripped her waist tight and waited until she looked back up at him to kiss her hard between his moans and hers.
“I want you to moan my name,” she whispered.
Severus’ groan turned into a moan. “You’ve tricked me,” he could hardly speak with all the rough breathing he was doing. He heard her giggle and he couldn’t help but give in as she worked her magic on him. “What is it? I want to say it,” he moaned urgently.
“(Y/n).”
It was music to his hears and he immediately put it to good use.
“Don’t you want me moaning yours?”
Fuck. Of course I do.
“Give me your name to moan,” she bit his lip gingerly and tugged.
“Severus,” he gasped and swept his hands over her back and pressed her close to him, tangling his fingers in her hair while she gave little love bites to his neck.
With every moan she made he heard his name on her lips, louder with every passing second. Everything seemed better suddenly, everything felt better. They were closer, even if their physical intimacy was at its peak. She dropped her head and sighed loudly as a wave washed his body of all tension and stress was replaced by pure pleasure.
“(Y/n),” he hugged her close.
“Severus.”
