Satoru feels upset and sick to his stomach, as someone who can be often used to people grovelling for him, being scared of him, and just respecting him as the honored one. You weren’t doing any of those and yet, you were suffering all the same. Any other girl would have chosen the easy way out, what does it need really? Apologize? Cry a little? Why aren’t you doing that?
All he could see was you going back home, the summer sun not being kind to you as you drag your feet back, after carrying his school bag for him. Suguru isn’t talking to him either. He simply said he doesn’t like to associate with feminine men who want to proclaim their ego more than their humanity. Boy that fucking stung & Satoru told Suguru to piss off before he’s beaten to a pulp. It’s not how Satoru was treating you which was a problem for him, he never hoped it would drag so much. All his blinding rage of the moment is fading off easy. He couldn’t drag this for a month for the life of him.
People love hanging out with Satoru also, despite whatever worshipping there is — he still has friends. This is surely one of the reasons they lurk around despite his intrinsic, domineering brattitude. He rolled his eyes upon realizing that he’s been standing there watching you walk away & scoffs, going inside.
Your shoulders hurt but you know his and your home is too far. You decide to use whatever pocket money you have to book a cab and leave home. Once you’ve reached, of course there are questions. Questions from your mum who’s calls you ignored. “Where were you? Why are you coming home from a fucking cab?” She snarled, raising a brow at your tired features. Your parents are normal, not too supportive not too toxic. However, normalcy when you’re imposed with external toxicity sounds toxic. Or maybe they just were… toxic. How would you decide either way? It’s not like you’ve taken trial periods of new parents to come to a decision.
“Sorry; head hurts. I’ll be in my room.” You dragged yourself across the expensive marble flooring of your home. You weren’t poor, per se… you just weren’t made privileged either.
Once you reached home, you sighed, back laid across the mattress and staring out into space. The sight of you drenched in cold water, the way your shoulders have red markings of the bag straps, all because you threw some gravy over the fucking bastard! You grit your teeth, jaw clenching. Fuck you hate him.
You hate that you’re crying again, tears and frustration bubbling in your eyes as you sniffled. Leaning your forehead against the mattress and curling up. You want to kick his ass so bad. If only this parental thing wasn’t involved…
The next day you’re not in school, your period had been unbearably shitty & so was your mental health along with migraines. The next day either, and not even the day after. Satoru is getting restless every day, walking to your class and seeing your seat vacant, walking away. Why the fuck does he not have your number? Why the fuck does it even matter… did he make you leave the school? Nah- why would you leave the school it wasn’t that bad right?
It was Friday again, four days of you not being here… you really thought maybe he would count this in the month? It’s almost two weeks over! Then again, Satoru Gojo would just push it for another four days of you serving him because you were absent. When you enter the school premises, you take a long breath, alright. No biggie, he’s just an annoying bully with Daddy’s money in his pockets.
The moment you enter, you find him lurching towards you, a beaming smile with black glasses. He looks so beautiful if he wasn’t so fucking shitty. You looked up at him and before he could say anything, “I was sick, even in companies and where you work, people are allowed to be sick. You can’t really extend the number of days because I was sick. That’s h-how it normally happens.” You mustered, defensive in your stance.
Oh… wow. He was just here to say hello, ask where you were and that if he had been too annoying that you decided not to come to school. Satoru was going to be nicer. Again, broken a little because you think so shitty of him. Not that he cares… he doesn’t… he— doesn’t…. Does he?
“Yeah, yeah I get you; damn do I scare you that much?” He chuckled, hands in his pockets. You knew you couldn’t say any of the twenty ass biting replies that you had logged at the back of your tongue. “Yeah, you’re my highschool nightmare, Gojo san.” You hummed, walking away.
He’s shamelessly following you, holding your wrist. “Didn’t say I was finished, did I?” His playfulness is gone, replaced by something carnal, icy again. You only manage to shake your head no. “Four days at home got you forgetting how to act right, hm?”
Satoru leaned down, making eye contact with you. You glanced at him back, pouting helplessly and shaking your head no. “Just- didn’t think you need me.”
He didn’t really plan on it, he just wanted to have a conversation! Why were you sick? His stomach was turning upside down at the thought of you handling Japan’s heat at 3 PM that Monday. He could’ve asked if you wanted some water… fuck this. He made this bet to make you suffer & you were suffering. What’s the problem really?
The problem was he wasn’t an asshole he pretended to be… and he didn’t think this would drag so long. Haven’t you seen other girls? They fawn over him endlessly, buzzing around him & always eager to have a speck of his attention. This is what makes him pissed off, again.
“You think a lot for someone who’s as dumb as you.” He chuckled, jabbing at your self respect once more like it’s free reign. “Sorry, tell me what is it you need from me?” You just ignore everything he says and focus on one goal. For this hellish month to end so you are free from Satoru Gojo’s clutches. Though with the way he talks to you, it does seem like you could handle your mother taunting you for months about how stupid you are after giving him the money. At least… she’s blood.
“Hey” the next voice that echoed was Suguru. He was the best friend who was around him of course. You remember his gaze, it wasn’t pity towards you when Satoru practically bore you naked in the cafeteria by spilling water over your white shirt. It was rage, subjected for Satoru & Satoru alone.
Satoru raised his brow, “Don’t interfere where you’re not needed, Suguru.” He snapped, while the latter only smiled in an annoyingly calm manner. “Wasn’t talking to you.” He simply answered your bully, looking at you. “Welcome back, I thought you had left the school.” He smiled, giving you the same popsickle that Satoru had you fetch.
You didn’t take it from him, why is he so hell bent on making things worse for you? Though his act of kindness doesn’t go unnoticed. It was like rain on lava. Bubbling emotions rushing down as you couldn’t help but blink furiously to evade the tears you find coming. “N- no, I’m uh… okay. I was just sick.” You managed, gnawing at your lip and wanting the world to swallow you whole. People on their way to classes were already seeing you between the two hot-shots of the school.
“So you can cry huh?” Satoru laughed, almost in disbelief. This is what he wanted didn’t he? Anything said by Suguru which made you emotional had you snap back instantly. “Do you need anything from me or can I go to class?” You say with such hatred it’s truly shocking.
“Yeah, write one thousand times that you will not leave my side until I’m not finished talking.” Satoru says simply, oh he’s pulling off Suguru’s rage on you now.
“You don’t have to do shit- it’s-” before Suguru could say anything else, you nodded. “Mkay. Can I go to class now?”
Satoru gnawed at his lip, he didn’t want today to be like this. He really thought he could make some progress. “Yeah, handwriting can’t be shitty or you rewrite.” He pushed your boundaries once more, hoping to earn a reaction out of you yet again.
“Understood.” You nodded, walking away. Just two more weeks… just, two more weeks.
During the lunch time, you go to him naturally. “Heh, shouldn’t she sit on the floor?” One of his classmates smirked when you walked to him. Oh?
“Shouldn’t you lay down on the floor?” You asked him, before launching a kick right at his face, knocking him unconscious as he dropped down. Wow… everyone was stunned, including Gojo Satoru. Another reminder that he only has you on a leash because he played dirty, another reminder that you are different.
He snickered, of course he wouldn’t chide you for kicking some random asshole’s ass? He would’ve done the same. How he treats you is his problem. Though, you’re pissed, “This is what I didn’t want.” You looked at him, gritting your teeth. “You treating me like shit gives other people the right to treat me like shit.”
You were… wrong. This wouldn’t end after a month? What were you even thinking? There would be other people who would rise up after him to bother you. “I’ll get you the fucking money to shove far up your pathetic ass.” Here you go, losing it again…

Kinda late, but HAPPY NEW YEAR🎉🎊🪅🥂🥳
Tumblr media
I had no idea what to draw🥹I even have a few WIP drawings before this that I never got to finish🥲 I was also so upset that I wasn't able to get the foreshortening right in this piece🤣 Oh well😌... I'll take note of that and practice more.😚
🐦2023 has been the most intense roller coaster ride of problems and emotions I have had so far. It both made me flash back to all of my past traumas (which are confidential) and made me feel more pressured about my future than I'd ever been. I was a wreck. But it was also the year I had a lot of realizations. Maybe it was a year for growth... For 2024, I won't make any promises to myself or anyone; I'll just keep on figuring things out and experimenting.

🐦Thank you to those who stayed with me and kept supporting me. 🥰✨I hope you'll still be with me till I finally bloom. LOVE LOTS💖💞
I forgot to mention that Alora's birthday is on a new year🥹 (In her new design by the way, she's a year younger than Camilo and Mirabel, so Alora is 14. While Rafael is 1 year older (he's 16).

The Madrigal-Fontana family
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mateo Vicente Madrigal Fontana
He is a twin, and the oldest child of his family. His gift is to make astral trips to any part of the world by meditation. When he's using his gift, a third eye glows pink on his forehead and he can also levitate. He's the edgy cousin of the family.
Fun facts about him:
Mateo doesn't like his middle name (Vicente). The only one who can call him that is his mother.
He's a calm boy, but gets into trouble very often 'cause he has no filter and can sound "rude."
He's Itzel's favorite child, and they're very close.
He and his twin sister are the closest, and do many things together, and although sometimes he can't stand her and treats her rudely, he's always behind his sister, protecting her.
He likes poetry and is a hopeless romantic.
His favorite place is the beach, and he goes there whenever he needs peace.
When he uses his gift, the pink third eye that appears on his forehead is real and functional. His sister sometimes pokes it to annoy him.
He likes to meditate in Dolores' room.
He's the only one of the Madrigal-Fontana children who got Bruno's wavy hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dalia Elizabeth Madrigal Fontana
She's Dalia, Mateo's twin sister. Dalia has the gift of making clones of herself and other people. She can make up to five clones, and they function as a hive mind if she wants. She can also let them act on autopilot. She's daddy's little princess, and the spoiled brat of her family.
Fun facts about her:
Dalia is Bruno's favorite child. The two of them formed a very strong bond since she was a baby, and Bruno fulfills many of her whims. For the same reason, she grew up accustomed to getting what she wants, and if she doesn't get it, she gets frustrated and cries. She knows that's not okay, and it's something she's still working on.
Since she was a child she's very involved in the theater that her father founded and he relates a lot with her cousin Camilo, so she loves to act, and her biggest influences are the two of them. For that reason she got a gift similar to Camilo's.
Her way of showing affection, in addition words of affirmation, are her jokes. She likes to play pranks on her close family and friends.
She shows off her family quite a bit, and she's a big fan of her parents' relationship.
She gets into trouble easily because she is very talkative, mischievous and witty.
She has a strong sense of loyalty toward her loved ones, so she's the first to defend them when they are getting attacked. More specifically, Bruno and Esmeralda.
Her best friend is her twin brother, and they both watch each other's backs.
She is a good girl, but it's better to have her as a friend than an enemy, because she brings out the worst side of her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Perla Esmeralda Madrigal Fontana
And this is Esme, the youngest of the Madrigal grandchildren. Her gift is earthbending. She's a sweet and naive girl, and since her power is directly related to her emotional strength, she's unable to get out of control. She has had problems in the town due to the limited scope of her power, and they often compare her negatively with her father.
Fun facts about her:
Esmeralda is considered the baby of the family, and her parents and siblings treat her as such.
She is abuela's favorite granddaughter because of her resemblance to Bruno, and since Esme was a child, she's been overprotective of her.
She's also very close to Julieta's daughters, especially Isabela. As a child she took her gardening together, which influenced her gift of earthbending.
Despite being introverted, she has always been a very sociable and kind girl, although a little naive.
She is such a crybaby.
She takes guitar lessons with her dad and Mirabel.
She also likes to do crafts with her mom. The two of them are in charge of making the scenery for Bruno's plays.
She is the most attached to Bruno's rats of the Madrigal-Fontana children, and there isn't a day when she doesn't have a rat on top of her.
Of her siblings, she's the most similar to the Madrigal family, and she inherited many of her abuelo Pedro's traits.
She doesn't get along well with her maternal grandmother, who has always preferred her sister Dalia for being more like the Fontanas.
I don't think I've ever published anything of my fankids here, sooo... here they are! I tried to use a color palette consistent with the Madrigal family, without filling it completely with green. It was also very fun to make the patterns representative of their gifts.

Bruno: Living with people again has been an adjustment. It’s like living on a farm. It’s… interesting. Okay, the problem is the people I live with. And by that I mean my nephews and nieces.
Bruno: Antonio, my personal favourite, he’s kind of a friendly lamb. He just follows me around a lot, thinks he’s helping. He’s adorable. So precious. No issues there.
Bruno: And Luisa, she’s a big, hunting dog or something. Looks scary, but is actually quite sweet. Very protective and possessive of a kitten she’s just stolen/adopted. Will actually kill you if you look at it. Mirabel’s the kitten.
Bruno: Dolores is like a big turkey, just walking around, trying to control everything on the farm.
Bruno: Isabela is just a really aggressive and competitive goat, constantly fighting or arguing with everyone else.
Bruno: And Camilo is a crazy, wild bull, who I’m 50% sure doesn’t mean me any harm.
[Cut to flashback of Camilo chasing after Bruno]
Camilo, jokingly: I OUGHT TO FUCKING KILL YOU!
Bruno: *running away, actually screaming*
[Cuts back to present]
Bruno: We have a great time together.

All of the grandkids designs in caged souls au!!
Tumblr media
First of Isabela, as you can see, she looks a lot like Alma and that is because Pedro forces her to look like her. Every morning he checks her outfit and if it’s just a little off he makes sure that she fixes it. Isabela doesn’t enjoy having her hair in braids the whole time (it also causes a lot hair loss + stress. Which makes her worried.) She doesn’t have a problem with her outfit, maybe the colors but besides that it’s comfortable to say the least. The bracelets on her arms are weight bracelets, Pedro makes her wear them so “she wouldn’t lose any strength” and often as punishments her weight can get heavier. (It’s magic connected bracelets that he controls.) It bruises the skin underneath a lot too. The bag is one of her touches, luckily she convinced Pedro to own a bag like that, when she first bought it was just plain till she decorated it later on (also with mirabel).
She often feels very wrong for wearing similar stuff her dead grandmother wore or the exact bow she wore. Something pedro kept after the dead of Alma, he gifted them to her on her 10th birthday. Isabela also doesn’t work out and that’s the reason for not having massive muscles like Luisa, her strength simple just comes from the magic. (But she still is pretty strong without her gift ofc)
Tumblr media
Dolores’s outfit is rather more detailed, Pedro wanted her outfit to shine more because of her gift. He also did it on purpose cause he noticed that she was a shy kid so he decided the outfit would draw attention and get the shyness off of her. Dolores likes the outfit but she dislikes the attention it drags, she wears a plain shawl often just so she wouldn’t feel like all eyes are on her, it’s also comfortable. She loves the design of her headband but hates how it always slips or doesn’t keep the hair from her face. The clothing on her waist is the shawl, just plain red, she wears it so she can cover herself any time she wants and because it adds a nice touch at least so that Pedro wouldn’t notice anything.
She wears gloves because she started to fear the touch of people. Some of her family members she still finds normal to touch but she hates the feeling anytime she needs to touch so many people just because of her gift. A baby, a hug, holding someone’s hand, anything. She forgets how her hands look like often, (it changes between the color, shapes, sizes etc. of how many dead people she had been everytime she just stares at her hands without gloves.) so the gloves are very important to her.
Tumblr media
Luisa has a simple design, she still likes to work out in this au. She finds it relaxing and it has a special need. Her hair isn’t that long so she puts it in a pony tail. She didn’t know what to do with her outfit because she didn’t have any ideas or a gift. Pedro neither knew so he just decided to make her outfit plain. The colors at the dress, the patterns and the choker was her touch, it was the least she can do. She got the red ribbon from mirabel when she was young and she never wears anything else since then.
She’s the only one with long sleeves because she’s insecure about her muscles, she does like the feeling of being strong but Pedro often scolds her for trying to take Isabela’s place or not looking ladylike, the sleeves are a nice cover for her so she never ever rolls them up.
Tumblr media
Camilo is the one that stands out the most of the grandkids, not that he complains!! He doesn’t like his short hair since it tickles his neck and it makes him feel uncomfortable. He always gets jealous of Dolores’s hair styles and length but everytime he just gets over a bit of his ear Pedro makes sure to cut it. His ruana has a lot of details that he had designed with mirabel when they were little. (Now the ruana makes him feel a bit uneasy but the comfort of the warm feeling never felt.) He likes the color, and the length so it’s pretty comfortable. What he does not like though is his scarf and the little things at the end of the ruana. The scarfs feels too tight often on his neck and the little things are very annoying. He does get a lot of attention from his outfit and sometimes he loves it but the other times he finds it annoying.
He also hates his pants, he would never wear short pants (it exposes his skinny body more which he is very insecure about.) not only that but he hates the cold feeling. At least his shoes are okay.
Tumblr media
Mirabel too has a detailed outfit, she loves the unique flowers at her dress. Her top is more plain but it still looks nice, her choker is based on Alma’s color. Just like how her bracelets are based on Luisa, Camilo, Antonio, Dolores and how her earrings are based on Isabela. Her glasses were a gift from her father, she loves the little butterfly and flower! (Julieta added it!) her outfit is very comfortable which she loves. She has a ribbon that she got from Dolores on her 5th birthday, it makes her feel better often. Her favorite part of her outfit though is the little sewing she did on her dress. Because that was her first actually project after she finished her whole practices, she couldn’t be more thankful to Isabela. (Isabela did the butterfly as a little add and because it was too difficult for mirabel!)
Tumblr media
Antonio has a not so shining outfit which he is thankful for. Pedro has decided to let Antonio decide and design his outfit for a change, which Antonio gladly did. He did everything to make it super comfortable, and then asked mirabel for help with the designs. The headband was dolore’s idea and his shoes were Luisa’s idea. He feels very warm and safe in his clothing mostly because he got to decide the clothing and because his family helped him :D Pedro does start to cut Antonio hair short too time to time which makes Antonio very sad because he loves his big Afro a lot.
That is all tbh, any questions or stuff y’all wanna add?

Beach town au
Ceremonies are a celebration, but the actual BIRTHDAY is deemed much more important. Gifts are a constant, but birthdays are special. They exist to celebrate that you actually made it this long.
Mirabel does get a gift in this au but I’m not sure what yet. I just know it’s something that has to do with creation.
Shells are used as currency, but some shells are left on the beach in case some sea creature needs it. As well as that, when baby turtles are hatching from the sand the villagers make sure to protect the lil dudes until they get to the water. It’s a tradition Pedro and his wifey started and everybody just hopped on board.
Dolores’ gift is something she can turn on and off at will. I saw someone have this theory and I stick with it. There’s no way in god's green earth Casita would give a gift of super hearing without giving her a choice in whether she can turn it on or off.
Now, Julieta’s food is truly loved but her shaved ice and paletas (Ice pops) are a must have. Especially during the summer. She doesn’t use her gift all that much unless it’s an emergency.  So, she has no problem setting up a cart to give out summer treats and such. (But her family always get first dibs)
Mariano and Dolores are getting married soon! It’ll be a beach wedding of course. The dress won’t be too big, seeing as it’s a little toasty in Encanto (I mean, people can do it but it’s going to be a hot wedding day if they do). Traditional wedding dresses in Encanto are sheer and short or with a long mermaid tail look but thin.
Oh yeah, Isabela is a certified surfer (all the madrigals are) but she likes doing it more often.
LETS GOOOOOOO
Shells as currency is so cool. <33 I mean, it’s an island, currency being shells isn’t obviously an issue 😭 ALSO THE BABY TURTLES I’M CRYING 🦈🦈🦈 everybody hoping on board is so silly.
Love this au sm <3333 I like how the birthdays are way more important than the gift <333 like it’s not a ceremony, it’s a birthday celebration. I imagine the gifts are just viewed as some present by the candle/Casita. W Casita for letting Dolores’ gifts being a choice 🙏
I think?? They would still wear white/gold on their birthday, but they do that so that whoever’s birthday it is can stand out. Not that it’s hard to tell. Their birthday parties are always beach parties; I think Pedro and Alma gift them their first surfboard on their 5th birthday, cause they see them as old enough to start learning how to surf lmao
Tumblr media
W Isabela and Julieta. Isabela has way too much fun in Isabela when she’s surfing. I also think she’s one of the main ones to help Antonio’s learn how (besides Mirabel), and I think she also insisted on teach Mirabel and Camilo when they were little.

opening random encanto yt videos’ comments section is like staring at the waking storm you’re about to plunge into and knowing it’s not gonna be pretty and you’re probably not getting out of it unscathed (aka calm/happy fine—also sorry pepa oof—)
god the amount of misinterpretations people have with the movie, with so many scenes is insane, i’m about to go even more insane myself than usual
it’s so frustrating and i want to throw my phone every time AAAAAAA
but anyway yes, i wrote this ask in the first place to ask about your thoughts on different details and plot points and just general stuff of the movie that you noticed and really love, with any/all of this helping you appreciate the movie more? just anything, really, your choice on whatever you wanna ramble :3 (also to make up for how my last question had stopped you from rambling AHAHAH)
because i know you have so many good ideas and thoughts, so i’d love to hear it hehe :>
hope i made sense with the question, just a bit sleep deprived rn haha, but yes, ty!! <33
I totally relate to this feeling😭 except instead of YouTube comments it’s like almost every platform💀 and thank you for the ask!!
I could rant forever about all the details in this movie honestly!!!
The foreshadowing is SO good in this movie!! waiting on a miracle and the family madrigal being obvious ones but did you guys know the order mirabel sees the doors flicker when she sees the cracks is the order they lose their powers in? Isa + Luisa first because that’s who’s powers act up first dolores + camilo + antonio at the dinner scene and alma last because she was the last one willing to admit the problems!!
I love the character design!! I’ve rambled about it many times but it’s just !!!
I love how despite mirabel being our protagonist they show when she’s wrong and other characters call her out! She’s not a perfect protagonist she’s a flawed teenage girl and that just makes her more endearing
I love that they didn’t make Mariano a mean character just because isabela didn’t want to marry him. The problem isn’t Mariano it’s isabela feeling trapped!! Mariano is also shown to be considerate!
I love that most of the focus is on the female characters (if only the fandom would do that) I love seeing a multigenerational cast of women all flashed out with their own unique traits
about the misinterpretations i completely agree. I feel like this fandom has a “fanon” problem. especially with the most developed characters! surprisingly the ones with the most screen are the most common mischaracterised. I really dislike how encanto as a movie went to such an effort to give every character such a variety of traits and nuance only for the fandom to continuously reduce them down to one singular trait. It almost feels like reinforcing those stereotypes the movie was so set on breaking. As well as this continuously ignoring some of the best canon traits each character has. They feel so far from the original you might as well consider them ocs at that point.
I love the animation on Bruno’s vision shards (they look edible), I love the little details in mirabels room like her outfit sketches being hung up on the walls! THE BUTTERFLIES!! this movie has so many hidden butterflies it’s so fun to spot them!!
the soundtrack obviously but also the score!! only recently discovered that “the house knows” is a reprise of “the cracks emerge” it blew my mind!!!
One thing I really love about encanto is the expressions! they can convey so much with so little and the little subtleties it adds to each character is just incredible to me!!
SKIRT ANIMATION. it’s like hypnotizing to see how the skirts flow in this movie I am glued to the screen every time.
the dos oruguitas scene is gorgeous and so incredibly important to the core message of this story! As well as this scene the fall of casita is another incredible one!!
the songs feel like full blown fantasy musical numbers and I don’t know why people consider that a criticism of the movie is about MAGIC I want to feel that magic in the visuals of the song. So each musical number was like the most incredible experience!!
I love how waiting on a miracle starts off as a reprise of the family madrigal before changing to 3/4 time to show how mirabels out of place
the line “how far do these roots go down” hits so hard and I cant explain why
Felix and pepas love is so real and pure
julieta and agustín are incredible parents
dolores entire design
the fact luisa wasn’t reduced to a stereotype and was allowed to be flawed
mirabels voice!! it’s so unique and recognizable like I love it sm
the way felix sings “no clouds allowed in the skyyy”
I love that the characters actually look their age!
almas room being a replica of her old home showing how metaphorically and physically she’s stuck in the past
“I was thinking of my daughter!!”
I love that with isas transformation it’s not her hating femininity but changing what her femininity means to her
I love how mirabels worst enemy is her own mind. the madrigals aren’t aware of how she feels because she never opens up and it’s just slowly eating her up inside. in the end mirabel needed to acknowledge herself in order to grow (I say acknowledge because I refuse to believe it’s acceptance and I think she would still struggle with her self perception post movie)
I love how the Madrigals use their gifts to help their community and not for self gain. It’s such an interesting twist on the classic superpowers story
I love that the Madrigals are just normal people who randomly got a miracle, nothing of status just normal people in a normal town who got gifted.
the way pepa kisses antonio and hugs him after he gets his gift !!!
the way isabela is the one to initiate the hug but mirabel is the one who snuggles into it
julietas smile
the entire animation is so gorgeous!!
antonio. just antonio if u hate antonio I hate u
I love how realistically written alma is and how her story is treated with respect and nuance.
how all the madrigals problems aren’t solved instantly but it’s shown in a montage that happens over large period of time

something about hysterical women
Encanto has invaded my brain again and I just want to talk about how it's pretty clearly implied that the hysterical, anxious, loudmouth Pepa has done a MUCH better job of protecting her kids from Abuela's bullshit than the nice, peacable, ideal mom Julieta.
All three Mental Breakdown Songs are from Julieta's children. Now this could be argued to be because they're the protagonist and her immediate siblings, but no - Mirabel goes to DOLORES for intel, it's Dolores who sends her to Luisa. And Antonio, a little child who grew up after Mirabel in a much more anxious environment of "WILL the next kid get the gift?", loves Mirabel and doesn't think less of her and is only a little scared but gets his gift just fine!
(Now, I personally subscribe to the theory Mirabel only "didn't get" hers because it 100% overlapped with Abuela's - her gift was the Casita itself, subtly illustrated by the way Casita listens to Abuela and Mirabel in a way it isn't really shown to listen to others. All the kids got their gifts from what they most wanted and loved, and to Mirabel the thing she loved most was her family and what she wanted most was to be useful and helpful to it. But anyway)
Camilo is a little shit whose gift has no clear useful applications, but he displays 0 signs of any kind of inferiority complex or being pressured the way Julieta's kids were pressured. He does what he does, and it's Fine. Dolores is a keeper of many secrets and seems to be pretty scared of ending up like Bruno, but she doesn't. (She is also my favorite most beloved blorbo in the movie, but anyway)
Something about - conflict aversion vs conflict very much non-aversion. Julieta speaks softly and backs down when Abuela insists. Pepa doesn't hold back from yelling at her when her demands are insufferable from Pepa's point of view. Julieta's gift is immediately useful and easy to share with the community, she fits into Abuela's ideal vision easily; Pepa's gift is a problem for people around her as much as it is a boon, and it looks like she's waging a lifelong war for her right to have emotions at all. I can only imagine Pepa's reaction if Abuela tried to talk shit to any of HER kids (thunder and lightning included).
Just - conflicts and protection.

My version of the Tainted Miracle Au
Tumblr media
Isabela, she started out as the tomboy of the family, loved playing in mud, pulling flowers out from the root to give to her mama, reading about all kinds of plants, etc.
Alma, however, wanted the girl to be more girly so when she became four, she started teaching the girl how to do more feminine things. The miracle didn't know that was going to be a problem but knew what her gift was going to be and blessed with the gift of creating beautiful plants of all kinds.
By the time Mirabel came along she was turning into a perfect feminine version of the tomboy she used to be. But being only eleven, she still tried to hold her childish nature and play with her younger sisters and primos.
But whenever she got too rough or messy, she gets scolded.
"Isabela! You got your dress dirty, the seamstress didn't custom tailor it for you to treat it like that."
After Mirabel got her gift, which was crystal, glass, and diamond creation. She was forced into the perfection role with Isabela being tasked to teach Mirabel what she knows.
At eight Mirabel noticed Camilo, Luisa, and Dolores didn't nearly get as much praise as She and Isabela did. so, she started helping them. She started making cute accessories and dresses (or at least attempted it) for Luisa to wear around town. Same for Camilo and Dolores.
She taught her primos and hermana how to walk agile, how to sit straight, and keep a smile. Dolores wasn't really all for it but tried her best. People would often ask for certain types of jewelry or just about anything made of glass or crystal. So, she would have Camilo, Dolores, and Luisa help her mail them around town if they would be in the area.
Camilo would model as Mirabel's manniquin when it came to Mirabel making clothes for the family. Alma saw this and in turn, gave him praise for helping her "Chica Diamante Perfecta"
They would also help Isabela with mailing certain flowers to certain homes or just give them to people when Isabela handed them the flowers to pass out.
They all would get praise for helping Mirabel and Isabela out…but this took a turn. It was expectant for them to be pretty and helpful just like Mirabel and Isabela.
Camilo could no longer slouch over or do boyish things. He was now supposed to help Mira, be a perfect babysitter (in other words mother), respectful, clean, and eat a normal portion of food.
Luisa was now supposed to handle herself with grace when doing chores in town. No running, no dirtying clothes that Mirabel made for you, head up, back straight, swift movements.
Dolores was now actually forced to socialize and "not be seen as rude" because she used to stay in her room too much. Earmuffs (that look like stylish earpieces) are mandatory for her if she has to socialize, luckily Mirabel made her some cute earmuffs for her to wear.
Overtime Isabela wasn't liking the attention being taken away from her and became distant. In her mind, they were all taking away her chance at becoming a Matriarch and making abuela proud.
Oh! New idea! Alma constantly holds the "you might become the future candle holder if you keep this up" trophy over them.
The other grandkids picked up hobbies to appease Alma. Camilo: Baking, sewing, and painting. Dolores: Writing, crafting, and ballet. Luisa: kindergarten volunteer, candle making, and knitting.
"H- Here you go Abuela, strawberry buñuelo's just how you like them" Camilo handed Alma the cookies. In return he got a thank you but he still couldn't help but doubt. Was it enough? should I make more? I hope they were decorated good enough…please be proud
When Antonio is born and grows up, he's still the same shy kid. But Alma, having five other perfect grandchildren, is teaching him how to be just like them after his ceremony.
Antonio (let's say two years after his ceremony), is started to mimic his siblings and primas behavior.
"I have to be mature, sit up straight, don't get dirty, help the town, be polite, become the future matriarch and make abuela proud"
Everything was fine, until Isabela's wedding day. just before she walks down the aisle, her whole life of suffering flashes before her eyes…and she snaps at the realization that her life wasn't her own.
she ran all the way from the church and to Casita. goes for the candle to snuff it out and fails, ending up getting shocked and scarred by it.
She figured she had enough time to write a letter to her primas and hermanas on what happened. Writing everything she could as fast as she could and left it in Mirabel's room marked as "Hermana's and primo's eyes only."
"To mi hermanas and primos, I'm so sorry I've been so distant with you and mean to you. Alma just molded me into something she wanted me to be since my ceremony day. She told me that if I stayed strong, independent, and perfect that I'll one day be a matriarch…like she told all of you. She stole my youth, stole yours, and is going to steal Antonio's youth if we let her…get the candle. It gave me scars but maybe, if you bide your time and plan correctly, you'll get the candle without it hurting you and maybe she'll listen to you. if not…destroy it, it's obviously the only thing she cares about if she doesn't want to hear your pain"
One after one, they all tried to reason with her...and ended up scarred and in a donkey barn...plotting the demise of the remaining madrigal adults, especially Alma's.

   ~🕯☀🐀🍘💬🐝👂🦎🐆🌷💪🏼🦋~
Summary✒ the Madrigals are taking a Family Vacation, well apart from Abuela who chose to watch over Encanto, the Family needs a break... However, the family ends up finding a new stranger who has a gift and a certain shapeshifter in the Madrigal family quickly helps the Stranger come together with his family...
((Part 1) I really missed writing for the Madrigals and this stupid chameleon )
      ~🕯☀🐀🍘💬🐝👂🦎🐆🌷💪🏼🦋~
The Family was taking a much-needed vacation, in a new small town with few problems.
Juliéta was happy to be in a new (temporary) kitchen to get messy and try new things without worrying about getting Casita all messy, Aústan was just happy to spend time with his family and not worry about the Bees... Mirabel was happy to share her dresses and fashion designs with new people, Luisa was happy to not use her gift and give her sore muscles a well-deserved break, and Isabela was ready to spread beautiful plants all around the town as thanks.
Pepa was so happy to finally be out and be able to see a whole new world and not worry about anything for once and that alone had a brightly colored rainbow above her head; Félix was happy to see his wife happy as he carried his youngest son on his back trying to answer as many of the "what's that!" Questions the youngest asked, Antonio was intrigued and mesmerized by the new world he was being brought into, Delores was ready to hear all the juicy gossip she could from the new town to gossip with her mamá, Camilo was ready to pull his charm, and perform every night as him and not shift into anyone, and people would cheer not because he was a Madrigal but because he was talented.
And Bruno was happy to be with his family and not have to worry about a single vision ruining the vacation or anyone's day.
Upon arriving the Madrigals were greeted with smiles and warm welcomes, and the Kids were happy to play with Antonio!
The young ladies all welcome Delores, Isabela, and Luisa into their groups and being complementing each other's dresses, hair, and overall beauty.
Mirabel was being complimented on her talents by the town's seamstress, being invited to make a dress or two.
The Mothers and Fathers of the Family were encouraged to have a date night all to themselves as they don't get those often any more.
Bruno was talking to the mice in the town and introducing his little furry friends.
And Camilo well, while he is welcome to perform he has already gotten the attention of some girls in the town...
While Camilo was trying to get his act together and simultaneously hiding from the awestruck girls of the town he tripped over a small object.
Looking down at the small object it looked to be made of glass, small crystals, and flowers? Rested at the bottom of the oddly shaped glass trinket, the golden chain was what caught his foot.
Camilo lifted the trinket closer to his face before trying to rub some of the dirt off of the glass to get a better look at the object in his soft hands when it glowed and started to shake and in shock Camilo dropped it.
But a hand from someone who hadn't been there a moment before caught the glass trinket.
"Hello, finder!" A cheery voice calls to him and he looks into the colorful eyes of the magical stranger, "where did you come from?" He asks awkwardly still shocked at the fact someone other than his family had gifts.
"You called for me!" The stranger answered lifting their hand and gesturing to the odd object in their hand.
"You found my trinket and for that, you get 13 wishes! No more no less! So use them wisely and remember to be very careful with what you wish for!" The stranger advised the awestruck boy. All the information took Camilo a moment to take in and comprehend.
"Wait. So I get 13 wishes, and get to wish for whatever I want?" Camilo says his excitement about the situation he found himself in, thinking of all the arepas he could ask for.
"Well, there are a few... Restrictions I have put in place." The stranger plays with their fingers as they lean away from the boy. Before grabbing his Ruana and pulling him in close till they were face to face only a few inches away, "RULE NUMBER ONE!" the stranger exclaimed staring into his eyes "tell NO ONE! About the trinket and how you are currently the holder of it! Or how many wishes you have used!!" Camilo gulps as the stranger loosens their grip on him and pulls away slightly, "RULE NUMBER TWO!" The stranger's voice rises again, "I can't make anyone fall in love with anybody else"- the stranger poofs next to Camilo placing a loud kiss on his cheek- " just a little kissy there!" The stranger teased before the moved to grasp his shoulder, "oh, and I can't kill anybody or bring anyone back from the dead." The stranger just looks into his eyes with a big smile after saying that and it made Camilo shiver in slight fear.
Before breaking eye contact with Camilo, "but anything other than that, you got it." The stranger sighs, Camilo thinks for a moment looking around him and noticing it has gotten dark out Camilo decides to put the stranger to the test.
"Well, I don't know. Those rules seem to be pretty simple things and you can't even do that! I doubt you would even be able to bring me back to my mamí and Papí in the town over." He looks to his side in fake disinterest making the stranger glare at him, "oh you want proof? I'll give ya' proof pretty boy!!" And just like that Camilo was momentarily blinded by a light before he was in front of his family,
"How's THAT for proof!" The stranger yells in his face and Camilo hums "so about those 13 wishes?" Camilo asks ignoring his family that stood watching in confusion, "hmm? I'm sorry what was that? Does mine ears deceive me? 13? You are down to 12 BOY!"
"Ah! I never wished to be back with my familia you did that all on your own for me!" Camilo smirked.
The stranger paused...
"Well, don't I feel sheepish..." The stranger shies away from the Smug boy, "fine I will take the blame for that one, you bad boy! But no. More. Freebies!"
Camilo thinks for a moment, "deal."

His family who had just witnessed this stranger just poof into existence along with the boy they had been looking for to say they were shocked was an understatement.
And after a long explanation, they had many questions for the stranger.
~🕯☀🐀🍘💬🐝👂🦎🐆🌷💪🏼🦋~
It had been a few days and you and Camilo had only gotten closer, especially after a certain talk you both had late one night...
"Man only three wishes left, wish I hadn't spent most of 'em of food..." Camilo hints at the stranger, "nice try, but not takebacks for wishes."
Camilo snaps his fingers with an exaggerated huff "worth a shot." You and Camilo look up at the night sky, he would be going home soon and he wanted to make his last wishes good.
"What would you wish for?" Camilo asks...you pause no one had ever asked you that before you were genuinely stumped...
"Umm, maybe to be able to make wishes for me..."
Camilo looks at you, "what do you mean?"
"Well, I can't make wishes for me. Like wishes that would benefit me in any way. I'm just forever meant to do what the finder wants me to, no matter how I feel about it. To be able to say no, or make my own wishes come true... That would be what I would wish for..."
Camilo looks at you with stars in his eyes, watching you at that moment. Seeing you so passionate about what you want, made his heart skip a beat.
Camilo smiled, and he scooted himself to you; he knew what his very last wish was going to be for sure... No matter what.

Cornplate
I heard about Encanto from one of my friends. Luckily, my local shop just had cheap copies
A crack fic because why not?
I remember it as if it happened yesterday. Probably because it happened yesterday.
I was shopping in our local cheap convenience store, when my eyes spotted something. A CD with Encanto. A Disney Movie my friend didn't stop talking about. I was somehow intrigued as she really praised it. Part of me was surprised. It was 2024, who the hell uses CD disks in that time?
Luckily, my parents hadn't update our PC since before my birth, so it wasn't a problem.
For my huge relief, it was at markdown. How could anyone miss a chance like this?
The first thing that made me feel uncomfortable happened when I unpacked the box at home. Some idiots decided that, apparently, putting two covers was a brilliant idea. They looked exactly the same, only that the second was black and white.... Okay, maybe it FAR from exactly the same. But anyway, it was cheap. There probably would be some defects.
So, as I had beaten up the computer system unit to make it run and inserted a disk, the image immediately floated. CRAP! It's a virus... PC is probably dest—
"Hola," I froze, staring at the screen. Seeing a young man in here. "You had found a true version of the movie. The one that Disney had tried to destroy." Okay, what the heck? "Please, spread this version, the world has to knpw the truth about my wife and descendants."
Okay, why does it sound like I'm in some cheap creepypasta story?
I had leaned back in my chair, opening a pack of snack. Well, I had to do the best comfort, right?
A corn growing in a pot appeared on the screen.
"Open your eyes." An old woman asked, holding a girl. The magic corn of the Madrigal family? What? What are stories are they doing these days...
The visual was showing a young old woman (not really old then) and a man that I had seen in the beginning standing in a burning field. The entire food was destroyed. But then a man dropped dead because why not and one last corn grew bright and created a huge field.
"When my children came of age, the corn had given them magic gifts to serve our fields!" I listened to the explanation, intrigued. I wonder what would a girl's gift be.
Time switched to a years later. Pacing through the routine where a Tía Pepa rains on the crops. Julieta cooks. Dolores listens to the parasites. Camilo shapeshifts to have better physical strength. Isabela grows corn and Luisa plows the land. Such a good strong family! Everyone has a... What do you mean Mirabel doesn't have a gift??
Apparently, her door had dissapeared! Poor girl, but at least her family does really good even so. Mirabel is really sweet! She's such a good prima to Tonito! And she had even make a plush corn for him!
Gladly, Antonio got a gift. I breathed out with relief, knowing that the family was good.
But then... The family took a picture with corn... They took it all and Mirabel hadn't get any! Really sad... I wish her all corn in the world!
WHAT?? THE CORN IS WITHERING?? Oh no! What if they'll be left without any food? But once Mirabel calls everyone, everything looks fine. But it was definitely wrong ten seconds ago?
Honestly, this family just couldn't't catch a break. Abuela confirmed that the corn is indeed in danger. And at the next morning Luisa acted really off.
Oh, I guess being forced to work all day wasn't fun. I thought she was happy being useful, but she is breaking from the weight of a plow on her shoulders. At least we now knew about a vision.
Bruno's room looked awful. So abandoned. You can't grow anything in here. And lots of stairs! Too many for it to be legal! And the vision has Mirabel. Of course, it's always the protagonist in the centre of everything.
Tía Pepa told how her brother ruined her wedding corn but making ber rain too hard. She ended up flooding it. And while Mirabel was bisy with a vision the family did... something. Either preparing for the dinner or crying because her gift and corn are withering.
Mirabel in a empty field. Crap, it so tense! I bit my finger, waiting for the outcome.
The dinner was disastrous. All corn is rotting! Everyone saw Mirabel in a vision. And rats grabbed it taking it into the walls! Whre a strange man lives. Honestly, if I was Mirabel, I would immediately move the hell outta here. I mean, sure, it's her Tío. But why the hell does house have an apartment inside its walls??
No, dude, I understand everything, but how tf did you manage to live in the freaking walls for ten years? Oh, well, I probably should had expected that.
They take another vision where Mirabel hugs Isabela. Honestly, Isa was pretty rude through most of the movie. But that's what siblings are for.
Their talk grows into another musical number where Isabela makes a corn that looks like somebody had injected drugs into it. Pretty normal, I'm seeing it every odd Tuesday.
The moment where Mirabel and Abuela are arguing are literally makes me cry. And the corn is all dead! NO, NO, MIRA, SWEETY, DON'T GO!
At the next morning we get to see Abuela's story. The loss of her husband made her too closed and protective. And feeling like thay have to deserve the food. I had never thought Abuela had suffered so much...
But, together the family can make a new field even without their gift! And, what's even better, the entire village goes to help. They wanted to pay back after all those years of food supply from the Madrigals.
In the end of the day, they are family. And they are in it together. This movie needs to stop being so damn sweet, or I'm gonna flood my floor with tears like I'm Pepa.
The magic returns? But, now, the Madrigals are imperfect! I hope they will get even better!
How could Disney lie about the true version? They so annoying! No, listen, guys, how about we sue them to make a true version of Encanto get the fame it deserves?

Okay, I don't voice a ton of opinions about Disney movies, but here's one I think about from time to time: Raya and the Last Dragon AND Encanto would have worked better as animated series than movies.
I say this as someone who absolutely loves Encanto mind you. Every time I see a Camilo post I am immediately sending it to my sister, we both appreciate this film. But our inside joke is that it gets an I for Incomplete. The movie spends so much time giving us musical numbers that expose us to each character's struggles, but it feels like Mirabel just kind of shows up and listens to how her family members are feeling? Like she doesn't get much of a chance to actually help most of them through their problems, even though the movie seems like it wants to frame her that way. She barely suggests a solution. Luisa just had a good cry around her, and Isabella yelled at her and then found her solution on her own. I feel like listening and having a soundboard are important when it comes to working through your feelings, but this format and pacing actively strip Mirabel of getting to be fleshed out and have an active role in the story. Things just kind of happen around her. We don't get to see much of what makes her unique as a problem solver. And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that this story was being told in a movie format. It has such a big cast where all of them are important, it's hard to give anyone enough time to be fully fleshed out and have the entirety of their character arc within that time span.
Raya suffers from the same problem. The world is so large and expansive, its geography and individual cultures have so much potential, but we only get this tiny glimpse of these characters and places that doesn't tell us all that much about them, outside of a small taste of exposition when they're all missing their families. Which kills me, because both of these movies have some really interesting ideas on display. The scope is just too ambitious to fit cleanly into one singular movie. If they were animated series that had some slower growth to compliment their rich world building, it would have made a significant difference. I would love to see more shenanigans with each of these characters, more ups and downs of serious conflict and a little goofiness. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset by what we got, it was nice to have some original IPs that were fun and took some risks. But I am a little disappointed, because they had the potential to be a lot better than they were.
It's been feeling like Disney movies are more and more rushed over the past couple years, or at the very least, not thought through as much as they could be. -gestures at the behind the scenes of Frozen 2 where they didn't know what the voice was for most of production- And I can't pinpoint any one thing as the reason why, because there are a lot of factors contributing to it. But it definitely makes me want to be more conscious of that when creating my own stories. I guess that is the great thing about storytelling and art, you're always learning, and as you take in more art, you figure out what you value most about it. That is key in teaching you how to make what you want. Art is a language after all.

Neurodivergent Madrigals
So in the tags of my first headcanon list @omgcheez mentioned neurodivergent headcanons for the canon characters, and it got me thinking. I don't know if I would call all of these headcanons, most of them are my interpretations of canon, or theories I have, but that's close enough.
Bruno- Dude has OCD, they put it in the script, the creators said he’s based off of ND family members, it’s canon. Dude may have autism too, I am largely apathetic to that reading of his character. I neither like nor dislike it. I think it works for him but his character also works without autism. I do headcanon that he comes out of the walls with back problems that not even Julieta can fix, that will make him bed ridden in the last year of his life.
Alma- The whole movie is kind of contingent on her PTSD. Like, she watched her husband get murdered right in front of her and it changed her. It would be really weird to be like “Yeah, sure, her trauma changed her forever, but it didn’t alter her brain chemistry or anything!” So yeah, Alma has PTSD.
Pepa- I don’t know a lot about anxiety disorders, so this theory is one grain of salt away from being canon to me. Is it still an anxiety disorder if the thing making you anxious is the ever looming threat you might summon a hurricane? Or is that just perfectly normal, non-disordered anxiety? Either way, the woman is constantly anxious, so depending on the definition of Anxiety Disorder, she probably has one.
Antonio- This is in that nebulous space between “an idea the writers had” and “something that wasn’t in the movie”. It’s not technically canon, but it’s a little more than a fan theory. He was originally supposed to be non-verbal, so unless the plan was for him to be straight up mute, I think it’s pretty safe to read him as autistic. Although mute Antonio would have been interesting too.
Luisa- This is on the line between fan theory and headcanon. Her people pleasing tendencies scream anxiety disorder to me, especially considering the way she melts down when she feels like she’s disappointing everyone.
Dolores- I don’t think the writers intended for her to be autistic, but a lot of people in that community vibe with her, so that’s a headcanon I will go to bat for. I think that even if she isn’t literally autistic, her gift effects her in ways that she kind of might as well be. Y'know? It's like with Alma, it's sort of weird to be like "Yeah, ok, so because of her super hearing she experiences a lot of the same issues as an autistic person who struggles with sensory sensitivity, but she doesn't have an autistic brain! Just an extremely similar life experience!".
Mirabel- She’s probably got some unaddressed depression, I feel like that’s kind of a given. Although, the movie sets her up more as a metaphor for being physically disabled.
Isabela- I think you could very easily read Isabela as being some variation of ND that hyper fixates (on plants), and she just has masking skills off the charts. So either autism or ADHD, or both.
Julieta- IDK what problems Juli has, but realistically she’s been dealing with gruesome injuries from a young age. So she’s probably got some sort of trauma response. We don't see enough of her character outside the role of Caring Mother for me to make a call on this.
Camilo- He’s a theatre kid.

So Much Hides Behind My Smile
“Knock, knock? Mi flor? Are you in there?” Someone asks, opening the door.
Isabela is sat at her vanity, carefully taking out the flowers she’d woven into her hair that morning. From the mirror’s reflection, she can see Milagro stood in the doorway, her family going about minding their own business just behind.
It had been a busy day, of course. Her perfect, albeit long awaited, wedding.
“Of course, mi vida. Did you need something?”
“I just came to see you,” he answered, shutting the door behind him. He laughed, walking over to her, just about to set a hand on her shoulder. “Well, it’s been a long day but we’ve finally made it to the wedding night—”
“Get the fuck out of my room.” Isabela snarls.
Milagro blanks for a minute. “Um… where else am I meant to sleep?”
“I don’t care. It’s not my problem.” She seethes, turning back to the mirror.
“In case the rest of the day didn’t clue you in, mi flor, we are unfortunately husband and wife now. It very much is your problem. And from what I understand, the sooner you have a baby, the happier your Abuela will be. Which you’ll have a hard time achieving if you don’t want me here.”
“If you so much as touch my shoulder, I will rip your penis off and feed it to my carnivorous plants.”
Neither says anything more.
But it takes exactly two seconds for them to act.
Milagro goes to charge his entire body into hers but is yanked onto the floor by throned vines, as Isabela throws herself straight onto him.
“How dare you treat me like this!?”
“How dare you!? This is my room and don’t you forget it!”
“Just because you’re a Madrigal doesn’t mean you can get away with everything, princesa!”
They scratch and hiss and hit like wild jaguars, fighting over the last scrap of meat.
It just keeps going.
Not only does he deserve it and worse, she can let out all the steam that’s been building inside her.
~~~~~~
“A perfect match,” Alma hummed, as Bruno poured them all another round of wine. “Isabela deserves the best and that is what she has. They will both bring so much good to the Encanto.”
“I can’t believe it. Where has the time gone?” Bruno added.
Pepa nodded, still drying her hair. “It feels like just yesterday Isabela was born and now she’s married and going to have babies of her own.”
“That will be our Lolita soon,” Félix smiled.
“I’m too young to have grandchildren! We’re too young to have grandchildren! No offence, Mama.”
Alma was in too good a mood to even remotely care.
“Is it really Dolores’ wedding next?” Bruno asked, teasing. “Because I had a little peek into the future and I saw—”
“NO! DON’T YOU DARE RUIN IT! I DON’T WANT TO KNOW!” Pepa shrieked.
Bruno held his hands up in surrender as his sister began a play fight with him, Félix laughed riotously.
“Hey, I was only kidding!”
“Well, I don’t believe you!”
Alma chuckled too, before getting up. “I am going to check on Julieta and Agustín.”
“You do that,” Félix said. “I’ll keep an eye on these two.”
The rest of the grandkids, all of whom were drunk, were out in the courtyard, hyper as anything.
Camilo, Antonio and a variety of animals were dancing while Dolores played some lively tune on her bandola; Luisa singing a completely different song over the top.
Honestly, you wouldn’t know they were adults.
On any other day, she would probably have scolded them and sent them to bed. For now though, she is happy enough to just leave them. They aren’t hurting anyone or causing any trouble, to be fair.
Agustín and Julieta were sat quietly in another room, without the wine. Julieta has been in an odd state for the past few years with seemingly new cure, and Agustín has always preferred to keep some distance from his mother-in-law when he can help it.
But they should be together right now. This is Isabela’s day and they have all been her biggest supporters.
“They certainly make the happy couple,” Alma said, taking a seat beside them.
“Indeed.” Agustín agrees. “I had my doubts about this match, but I’m glad that I’ve been proved wrong.”
“So long as my girls are happy, then I’m happy.” Julieta declares.
“Well, mija, I can attest that Luisa is definitely happy.” She paused, trying to get the pair to hear the carryon happening outside. “And trying to make herself a soprano, apparently.”
After some wonky, forced long note from Luisa, they broke into laughter.
“It’s nice to see the kids are still enjoying life and spending time together,” Agustín remarked, smiling fondly.
Julieta’s smile drops.
“Not all of them.”
~~~~~~
Long after Milagro is gone and her temper has cooled, Isabela heads downstairs.
It’s late now.
The rest of the family is in bed. Or at least in their rooms.
She doesn’t know where Milagro went after she kicked him out, probably the guest bedroom, but she doesn’t care enough to check. He can sleep outside for all she cares.
She heard some footsteps on the way to the kitchen, but brushed them off.
One of Antonio’s animals, no doubt.
In the kitchen, she makes her way over to the coffee pot. It’s half full, just needs to be reheated - no doubt Luisa has beaten her to their usual midnight drinks.
Casita takes over, sliding her signature cup along to her.
“What do you think of all this, Casita?”
A few tiles clink.
“Mirabel? I’d be lectured for at least two hours about failed marriages in history or something if she was still alive.” Isabela glanced to the side. “Can’t imagine how she’d take this… knowing I just went back.”
More clinking.
“Well, what was I meant to do? I couldn’t say no.”
A cupboard smacks her shoulder, lightly.
She chuckled. Taking off the wedding ring.
“Haha, good point. You know, I always thought getting out of the Guzmán engagement would make me happy, and now I’m about two seconds away from committing murder.”
The beams squeak supportively.
“It’s nice to know someone’s got my back.”
The coffee pot, ready, is tilted over Isabela’s cup, filling it to the brim.
“Maybe I’ll let it happen. Let the family see he’s awful and then I’ll be free.”
It smells as good as usual, there’s an underlying hint of something that isn’t coffee though. She shrugs, and drinks it anyways.
Luisa’s been drunk since the ceremony ended, who knows what she’s put in here since. It’s probably alcohol - that she’s added in some spark of creativity. And Isabela isn’t too against the idea of alcohol in her coffee at all - it’s an idea she’ll try later, when she isn’t about to go to bed.
It doesn’t taste any different though.
She lets Casita dispose of the ring.
She returns to her room steadily, not paying much attention to the beautiful decorations that have been hanging since this morning.
It’s one of the odd times where she wasn’t the one to decorate Casita in her flora - it was her day. Abuela had made it very clear that she didn’t want Isabela to lift a finger.
She never really got a chance to admire them this morning either. She’s spent most of the day outside of Casita and when they have been home, she was in her room, getting ready with Dolores, her maid of honour.
Ah well.
They will still be there tomorrow.
All that matters now is that she’s alone, out of that hideous wedding dress and can sleep off her frustration with a drink.
She doesn’t bother switching on the light, just clambers into bed and setting the cup on her bedside table.
The café con leche is as inviting as always.

[Note reads, not in Isabela’s handwriting:
Dear family,
This is not about you, this is about me. I can’t cope with the pressure of being the perfect Madrigal any longer. I was not made to be a wife and mother - my most sincere apologies to Milagro, mi vida. I tried. You should not blame yourselves. I hope whatever is is next is better than this.
