About Mech Pilots:
There are many different kinds of mech pilots. But they can be arranged into a spectrum with monotask on one side and multitask on the other.
Multitask pilots have a life and skill sets outside of their combat vehicle. They can still be dangerous without their ride because of their tactical and political acumen. Examples of such pilots can be found in Titanfall, Lancer, and Battletech/Mechwarrior.
Monotask pilots are essentially organic control devices mounted inside the mech. They have slightly more personality and agency than other system components like an autoloader or jet thrusters. But the pilot is just as useless as those things if removed from the greater whole. Examples of these pilots can be found in Armored Core and Warhammer 40,000.
There are pilots that can fall between these extremes such as conscripted civilians, venerated sacrifices, or artificial intelligences. Examples of these beings can be found in Mobile Suit Gundam, Gen:Lock, or, again, Warhammer 40k.
There's no wrong way to portray pilots. That being said, I'd love to read stories where pilots from across the spectrum interact with each other.

Can we have more characters like Giovanni Potage in fiction? Like, characters that saw classic-style cartoon villains and were like “Oh that looks cool. I wanna be that” without ever considering if they’re actually suited for evil.

City of Bones by Martha Wells, and the evolution of character archetypes
I am such a sucker for this art style. It’s odd, reflecting on the ways in which an author I love has grown (and stayed the same) over the years. I’m specifically thinking about Martha Wells. I recently read City of Bones, which was originally published in 1995. I’m in the middle of reviewing City of Bones, because it’s being rereleased this year in trade paperback by Tor. I’ll have my review…

@girlzrok-99  Couldn't add any pictures, but I thought this would interest you:
LYN INNSUR'S ARCHETYPE:
73% match--The Wise Old Man
Stoic and contemplative - wise but in no hurry.
Your inner self archetype is that which closest matches your true personality. Your inner self is primarily influenced by the Wise Old Man archetype.
Your 'Persona' Archetype 75% match--The Wise Old Man
Stoic and contemplative - wise but in no hurry.
Your persona is the outward personality that you project for other people to see. This does not always match the true 'Self' archetype.
Your persona most matches the archetype of the Joker.

BLAINE MILLER THE INSIDIOUS
physical description: messy wavy brown hair, olive-toned skin, regular brown eyes that appear as honey in the sun (very easily), long thin eye lashes that dust her cheeks
personality: though she does well in school, it is not her main focus. she is random and unpredictable, senseless humour, outgoing but private and often seen as shy, a realistic outlook, short temper (gets annoyed easily)
oddities: prefers to sit or lay on the floor when getting things done, could be described with the phrase ‘contained mess’, very forgetful (gets distracted easily)
goal: to overturn what isn’t working
sexuality: queer/unlabelled
age: 14
height: 4’11

I’m so obsessed with how Martin Blackwood casts himself as Pylades/Horatio/Samwise Gamgee, deciding early on that his role within the narrative is to Be There for Jon as he descends into tragedy and that he can’t really affect the narrative otherwise. He doesn’t fully consider the consequences of his actions because he’s so confident that he doesn’t matter enough to impact the events around him. He hurts people because he doesn’t think he has the power to hurt people. His fatal flaw is his absolute conviction in his own unimportance. WHAT a character

Character who is usually used for comic relief due to a crippling trait they have suddenly being put in a serious and emotional situation where that trait then gets in the way and makes the situation sadder and more tense.
