I have to say that the choice of Jason Todd and Kyle Rayner for this Justice League Green Lantern Dark Crisis special is... interesting.
I mean, from the synopsis and covers, it does feel like John Stewart's 'fantasy world' really is fantasy-like in that he is a knight and Kyle is a prophet (a blind prophet) and Jason... has a gun?
From what I'm thinking, maybe this fantasy world is like a Gotham City and John is its Batman? And the choice of Jason because of all the Robins Jason is the one whose expertise mirrors John's in a way (John was in the army, Jason is the only trained weapons specialist of the group).
It wouldn't be the first of these JL specials to mirror Batman, as the Superman special finds him in a world where his dream of having Jon be his official sidekick (in a Robin-inspired outfit) is the main premise. This also makes me wonder if all of these specials are variations of Batman themes and involve the Batfamily (because, though we are fatigued they ARE DC's bread and butter y'all).
AND thinking of this made me question the release order of the specials. Superman is #1 and Jon is supposed to be an homage to Dick Grayson. Green Lantern is number 2, and it features Jason Todd. I wouldn't be surprised if 3 and 4 (Wonder Woman and Green Arrow) feature Tim and Steph in some way, not to mention how the backpage stories might work and who will be woven in. And 5 would be Damian but this is also the Batman special, and I think it ends with him because in everyone's perfect world they're some sort of version of Batman, but in Batman's perfect world there is no Batman ("A perfect world would never create a Batman" very similar to when Clark told Earth-2 Superman a perfect world is one without Superman) so it's very much Wayne Family Adventures but with Damian and... either a baby or a grown woman Helena Wayne!
But I could talk about that in a whole nother post... as much as I could how both Bruce and Barry's idealized paradises are ones where they're just being domestic. But I digress...
So that might explain Jason, but what about the Kyle of it all?
There were a plethora of Lanterns to choose from that John has worked with AND are from Earth. We have to think about the character Kyle will be portraying and who would easily fill this role, then.
Hal and Guy are immediately out. No way could they ever be the kind of prophet this story needs. Plus they would overshadow the other characters in the story. Jason and Guy's characters will act to similarly and make the story one-dimensional. Hal would step too much on John's toes. So it has to be those who came after John in the Corps.
Of corpsmen, the three who come to mind are Simon Baz, Jo Mullein, and Kyle Rayner. Of the three, Simon and Jo have been present and featured in the storyline where John became the Emerald Knight, so it wouldn't be surprising if those two were chosen. Plus Kyle's been MIA for a long while since the latest GL series started. However, considering the third element - the Jason factor - they probably looked back to see who could be the perfect complement there to balance things out, and they landed on Kyle. It also helps that they both have history with Kyle as well. I expect Kyle to really lean into his artistic side in this one-shot.
Tl;dr the use of Jason might be more than just a crumb for JayKyle stans, it might hint at how the singular thread connecting the worlds in these is the Batman-ness of it all (especially since Nightwing seems to be leading the heroes and confirmed villains running amok after the DotJL are Deathstroke and Clayface, Batman villains). However, JayKyle has to be considered because choices are not made in a vacuum, especially character and story choices.

people like to joke that batman is a furry but my hottest batman take is that batman is actually a metaphor for gender expression and drag (he is performing hyper masculinity)

I've been working on a dp x dc fic that has rather quickly become the home of the "Jazz is Gotham's Favorite Psychiatrist" au I posted about a few days ago and I've just really fell in love with the idea of Queer Platonic Murder Gremlins Damian & Dani/Elle being absolute terrors to their family and deciding to get married when they turn 18 for the sake of avoiding various people trying to date/marry them to get to their family's respective shit (the Wayne's money & social standing in Gotham as billionaire socialites, the Nightingale's massive power and influence over the Infinite Realms as the royal family).
Damien casually mentions he and his demon beastie Elle got married the day before without even glancing up from his food and completely derailing what was actually turning out to be a pretty calm family dinner for once. His siblings are losing their shit because what the fuck Damian, Bruce is having a crisis - he didn’t even know they were dating??? And he just found out Elle's sister/guardian is the mysterious doctor that he thinks is making some of his rogues disappear??? Damian didn’t even invite them to the wedding has he completely failed as a father?? - meanwhile Alfred is just there knowing full well that the two kids are little Aro/Ace menaces - he bought them each their first Ace ring for Pride this year he knows what's up - and deciding "actually I have something to do in the kitchen" and letting the chaos reign.
The Nightingales are fully aware of what's up (Danny was the one who had to do the presiding over everything in the Ghost Zone side of things and Jazz is a notary on top of everything else and signed off on all the paperwork on the human side) and are just enjoying all the various entities that were pushing for an arranged marriage between themselves and Elle for power or whatever bullshit having hissy fits over losing to some human kid. They're especially having fun not telling Constantine the specifics of the whole thing and letting him sweat it out over the fact that the Crown Princess of the Infinite Realms apparently just married the "Demon Heir" whoever in - literal - hell that is and she now is in possession of all his soul contracts.

Any particular reason you love Batfleck so much? Or is it just a "blorbo I found on the ground and now I'm attached to it" kinda thing?
I think it’s the shared love we both have for alcohol, poor coping mechanisms, and strength training.

My dad: Why doesn't Batman kill the Joker? I just feel like it would solve pretty much every problem he has.
Me: *trying to compress over a decade's worth of Batman lore and knowledge into something bite-sized that my very much not nerdy dad will be able to understand and accept all while my sister is staring at me knowingly and with smug sibling judgement*
Me: Bruce Wayne thinks that if he kills the Joker, he won't be able to stop and will just go full serial killer mode.
My dad: Ah ... so he's a pussy.
Me: I mean ... Jason Todd would probably think so ...

There is something very funny in loving characters from different fandoms with the same name who would just… loathe eachother. On sight. The more they got to know eachother, the worse it would get. They’d find even one little thing they had in common, and be fucking horrified.
…I want to lock them in a box together and see what happens.

How do you feel about w/ayne f/amily a/dventures? Its obviously pretty popular in most of the batfam fandom but as someone who seems to enjoy the more complex side of them how do you feel about it?

I almost blocked my father for repeatedly sending my brother and I WFA panels in our family comics server
#occasionally i am self-aware enough to recognize my intense hatred of WFA as a form of elitism#and that there is nothing inherently wrong with dc cashing in on the legions of batfam fans who like the general concept of the characters#without wanting to read comics or in general learn literally anything about them beyond their most surface level characteristics#but yeah pretty much everything about WFA was tailor made to infuriate me as much as humanly possible#i have unfollowed mutuals for putting it on my dash too often#of course that being said: i have never read it! so i cannot actually speak to its quality as a comic#just as a general concept i have a knee jerk negative reaction to#and i'm also a hypocrite because i did reblog a cassandra + bruce thing from WFA once#but that's just a demonstration of how desperate i am for cassandra favoritism content#i know the opinion of most people who actually read comics is that 'cassandra is bruce's favorite' is a delusion of a subset of batfam fans#but dick grayson getting jealous of cassandra in batgirl (2008) was instrumental to my understanding of the characters#like yes in most functional ways dick is bruce's favorite#and bruce does often value the ways that dick is different from him!!!#but also bruce values his own priorities over All Else and cassandra shares those#and also relates to her in a way he doesn't relate to any of the others#the difference between shared trauma and shared coping mechanisms i guess#however it's also true that these things only come into play when writers remember that cassandra exists#because the average batman writer is only interested in the batboys. like that is undeniable#but idk like the rebirth outsiders run????#when duke confesses something to cassandra and she immediately goes behind his back to tell bruce about it???#even tim would have thought twice before doing that#and that's why cassandra is objectively bruce's favorite. case closed#this no longer has anything to do with wayne family adventures#UNLESS wayne family adventures comes to the same conclusion about bruce and cassandra somehow#anyone who reads wayne family adventures and is somehow reading these tags: please let me know

Okay but do you actually read too many comics?
I should have figured I'd get an ask like this eventually but let's just say I don't have a League of Comic Geeks account specifically because I know the number of comics i have read is somewhere in the 5 digits and I don't think I actually want to know that number......

Idk who Jason Todd is besides the barest details [I’m more familiar with Dick, Tim, and Damian], but I’ve read enough Danny Phantom/Batman crossovers to know I love him already......
Is it ridiculous to love a character based on nothing but potentially skewed portrayals of them in fanfic? Maybe, but it sure hasn’t stopped me before

the main batman comic and detective comics are so disconnected from each other plotwise that gotham war trying to claim that they’re happening concurrently paints a hilarious picture of the situation
bruce drives off at the end of gotham war and immediately goes back to being possessed by an azmer demon and captured by orghams to be hanged
tim makes a big deal about him always working to save bruce, yet when bruce is literally about to be hanged he’s nowhere to be found
and this isn't even getting into the batman and robin comic which features damian moving in with bruce and having father-son bonding time even though gotham war had bruce abandoning damian and in the end driving off by himself after telling dick that he and barbara are now the new parents of the mostly adult batfam
