No. 21 FAMOUS LAST WORDS
@whumptober
Thanks to @quietly-by-myself for their amazing beta job and for giving me feedback and asking more questions than I could have possibly answered in a short story. It made this piece richer an better. If I decide to continue it, I am in your debt.
Thanks also to my normal whumperful crew who never fail to cheer me on: @oddsconvert (who was very excited for this piece and got a sneak peak at it so I could hear her feedback as well), @sparrowsage and @whumpcereal. Y'all are amazing.
Content warnings: human whumpee, non-human whumper, fantasy fic (Shockingly for me, there are no violence or noncon warnings for this one.)
This is my first foray into writing fantasy fic y'all. I hope you enjoy it.
Coughing up Blood | “You’re safe now.” | “Take me instead.”
The Fae creature laid his human rescue down.  They were at the borders of the Fae World that this little human had accidentally fallen into.  The Fae creature would pay a price for this rescue, but it didn’t matter.  Perhaps one day this single act of kindness would come back to him.  Perhaps it could help heal the rifts between their worlds.
He leaned over the frail human, weak from even his short captivity in the Faerie Realm.  Humans weren’t supposed to be here.  The boy, at least the Fae thought it was a boy - human ages were foreign to him - had a soft look about him.  He was marked by his time with the Fae.  On the few occasions that the human creature had opened his eyes, the effects of the Faerie Realm on him had been obvious.  He would carry the Faerie touch for the rest of his life.  One green eye and one silver.  He would be able to see beyond what any human could.
It was not a gift.  The Faerie were hidden for a reason.  Yes, they were the stuff of dreams and high fantasy, but they were also the stuff of nightmares and waking terrors.  The Fae creature tucked a lock of the human’s hair behind his ear.  He was lovely.
The Fae had been struck by the simplicity of his begging.  Water.  It was all he’d asked for, his hand reaching through the vining bars of his cell.  The human sensed he would die as a toy and plaything of the powerful creatures that had found him.  That simple request for a basic necessity had plagued the Fae creature that sat with him now.
The cruelty of his own people, on display in this one fragile life.  He couldn’t abide it.  He wouldn’t.  He’d forced back the vine bars and stolen the human under the silver light of the stars.  His fellow Fae would be angry, but it was the right thing to do.  The human had not invaded their realm. He had not sought to destroy or to hurt.  He’d fallen on a hike and slipped through one of the many moonlit gateways.    An accident.  An accident with lasting consequences.
The Fae creature paused to wonder if he was indeed helping the human.  Part of the boy in his arms was Fae now.  He was no longer entirely human.  Would he be accepted in his old world?  The creature hoped so.  He certainly was not accepted here, other than as a toy - entertainment for the corrupt and the cruel.
The Fae creature had only a moment’s warning from when he heard the soft whooshing of an airborne projectile before the arrow slammed into his side.
“No!  No!  Stop!  Please!” he cried out, shielding the boy with his body.  Another arrow struck his shoulder and he felt the magic in the tip weakening him.  Magic that only the King’s guard wields.
“You fool.  You’ve stolen what does not belong to you,” a watery voice called from the shadows.
The Dark Water Spirit, cultivated from the darkest depths of the ocean.  A Fae feared by all, only made more fearsome by being the King’s guard.  An assassin, messenger, and executioner all in one.
No. No!  They were so close.  He couldn’t have come this far only to fail the human.  He looked at the waterfall by whose edge he sat.  Fear flooded over the Fae creature.  He’d been caught betraying his King.  He would face the Sidhe King’s absolute wrath for taking his lawful prey and sending him away from what the King viewed as his right.  And for what?  The small human creature in his arm?  Yes.  Yes, absolutely! He would endure it and it would be worth it, if only he could get the boy to safety.
“Plea-” he coughed and tasted blood in his mouth.  “Please.  Take me instead.  Tell the Sidhe King that you got to me too late, that I had already freed the boy.  I will suffer the consequences willingly.  But this human has suffered enough.  Please.”  The creature inched closer toward the edge of the falls with the boy’s body still in his arms.
“It’s not my call.  I have been sent to retrieve you both,” the watery voice replied.
“I can't let you have him.  He’s not of this world.  He has a right to go back.  To live his life.  He’s not an enemy.”
“That is for the King to decide.”
The king would indeed decide.  He would decide that the boy was an invader.  He was, without question, a human in the Faerie Realm.  That made him a danger, no matter how he came to be here.  The verdict would be a forgone conclusion.  The boy, as all humans caught by the High Faerie Court, would remain an imprisoned source of entertainment.
“Then let him decide without the boy.”  The Fae creature dashed the few remaining steps to the tumultuous edge of the waterfall.  Pain burned through him from the arrows.  “You are safe now.  Go! And remember that at least one Faerie cared for you and did right by you,” he whispered into the human’s ear.
Then he flung the boy over the edge, knowing that the chasm would catch him and he would come safely back to the human world.  The creature knew he was betraying his King.  But he also knew the human didn’t deserve to be used that way.  He deserved a life of his choosing, not left to fate and a King blinded by hatred.
With the last of his energy spent, the Fae creature dropped to the soft grass and then let the darkness drag him back to the Sidhe King’s justice.
*!*!*!*!*
On the other side of the chasm, the human boy awoke from his long and terrible nightmare.  It had to be a nightmare, right?  He glanced around at his surroundings.
Where am I?  How did I get here?  Here seemed to be a woodland meadow by the edge of a collection of large boulders.  He could hear thundering water, as if from a waterfall, but he did not see a waterfall, just a gentle, slow moving river.
He glanced down at his bare arms - thin scars like vines crawled from the backs of his hands, up his arms, and across his torso.  It was just a dream.  It had to be.  But the scars… the scars that were just like… no!  It can’t have been real.  It can’t!
The human crawled over to the river and peeked at his own reflection in the pool at the water’s edge.  His eyes.  He could see the single shining silver pupil looking back at him.  The thundering water sound grew louder and he glanced with just his silver eye to see the massive waterfall falling onto the rocks by which he’d woken up.  He stumbled backward away from the water.  But, when he turned his full vision on the place, the water disappeared.
It had not been a dream.  Or a nightmare.  It had been real.  He’d fallen into heaven, which turned out to be hell, and he’d come back, though not unscathed.  The human with the faerie eyes and marked skin got up and ran, for sheer terror that the true Fae would come thundering down that river and drag him back.

The development of Elriel (so far)
This is my (rather long) breakdown of what I believe to be the timeline of their relationship so far. I don't believe they love each other at this point in the books, but I definitely think they're on that path, and this is how we got there:
ACOMAF
This is when they first meet, but there are no romantic feelings between them.
During this book, Elain is in love and engaged and Azriel is still very much in love with Mor. However, when they meet, it is clear that they feel comfortable around each other.
Feyre points out that she thinks Elain would cling to Azriel for peace and quiet if she came to Velaris. That gives us the image of them together but, again, there are no romantically coded interactions between them.
At the end of the book, Elain is turned and learns that her mate is Lucien.
ACOWAR
This is where things start to get interesting.
In this book, Elain is still in love with Graysen and Azriel is still in love with Mor, but we start to see a shift as they spend time together.
From Azriel's perspective, I think he finds it easy to be around her, and finds her presence comforting, which is why he takes her out to the garden not once, but twice. He takes notice of her when others are writing her off as crazy and discovers what, specifically, has been plaguing her since she was turned fae. Not even Nesta really made that effort.
Not to mention, she calls his scars beautiful, which is something he is deeply insecure about.
He grows to care for her, but not yet romantically, as evidenced by his continued feelings for Mor. He probably didn't consider it given his feelings, her struggles, her mating bond, and her engagement.
But then he was the first to think of her when something mysterious went through the war camp. He was the first to volunteer to get her out, and he didn't want to let her go even when he was injured.
I think the rescue is when he first starts to realize that he cares for Elain more than normal. In fact, he cared for her enough that when the final battle came, he gave her Truth-Teller, something he never let another person touch before. Not even Mor, the person he's loved for 500 years.
From Elain's perspective, she's never been lower. She's lost her whole future she was excited for, she lost her mortality, and now she's seeing things others can't and is doing her best to communicate it but people aren't understanding her.
Then, someone listens. Someone figures it out. The very person who had taken her out to the garden and was content to sit quietly with her. The very person who had made her feel comfortable the first time the big scary fae came into her home when she was still human.
He pulled her out of that murky realm because he listened to her. Because he saw her when even her mate couldn't.
Of course, Elain still held out hope that she could marry Graysen. She wasn't about to jump into a relationship with anyone else. She wasn't interested.
But then he rejected her and she was clearly upset about it. While she was wallowing in her tent, the Cauldron kidnaps her and takes her right into the middle of the enemy's camp, which must have been horrifically terrifying. When she was chained and gagged and waiting for her captors to decide what to do with her, her rescuers arrive, and the first face she saw was the very same one that rescued her from her own mind.
"You came for me."
After helping her twice, she is now not only comfortable around him, but trusts him completely. So when he offers her his knife, she takes it, trusting what he offers her more than Cassian.
Then, of course, she was actually able to use TT, but that doesn't really affect the development of their relationship, so I'm gonna ignore it for now.
ACOFAS
This is where it starts to pick up.
Coming into this book, we now know that Elain and Azriel care for each other, but it's too early for either of them to jump into a relationship.
Elain is still mourning her relationship with Graysen.
Azriel still clearly has some residual feelings for Mor. There are some longing glances at her, a blush on his cheeks when she gives him a shitty present. But it's important to note that this is the last time we see that from him. We never see it again after the headache powder.
The other moments between Elain and Az in this book are great. The potatoes, his approaching her to wish her a happy solstice, they show us that these two characters have some budding feelings for each other, but the headache powder is by far the most significant moment because it changes everything.
Not only did it make him laugh in a way that took Feyre completely by surprise, but after centuries of receiving the most half-assed, mediocre gifts from the woman he loved, someone came along (someone who he already had some feelings for) and gave him a personal gift. A gift to show that she saw him, that she cared for him.
And then the two of them stayed up to the middle of the night talking about gardening. Azriel engages with Elain's interests and is trying to see her the way she clearly saw him.
ACOSF
We get less time with the two of them in this book, but that makes sense given that Nesta needed space from her sisters to heal.
But this is the book where it's pointed out to us through Cassian's POV that Az no longer seemed interested in Mor.
We see Az and Elain share a shy smile across the dinner table.
We see Az following the sound of Elain's laughter and "something charged" between them.
We see Nesta understand why Az keeps a distance at Solstice and she gives us "his secret to tell never hers"
All of this is meant to show us that they have feelings for each other. I don't believe it is yet love, but there is something there. Their feelings for others no longer seem to be an issue, the issue now is the mating bond. Which leads me to...
The bonus chapter
This BC is the final confirmation of Elain and Azriel's feelings.
They exchange thoughtful gifts, they nearly share a kiss, and they clearly have a mutual sexual attraction as well.
I'm sorry but you cannot tell me it's only lust on Az's part because of the headache powder, the thing that he's kept next to his bed and started at for a year.
He's not the type of person to lose so much sleep over being horny. It's been made clear to us on numerous occasions that he has no problem getting laid.
He wouldn't be willing to fight and possibly kill someone just for sex, either.
In the same way that the Nessian bonus chapter showed us that the barrier for their relationship was Nesta herself, I believe Az's bonus chapter is meant to show us that his barrier for a relationship with Elain would be the mating bond.
And that's it, really! That's how I think Elriel has developed throughout the books. Their development hasn't been loud and in your face because that's not who they are as people. They are quiet and keep their feelings to themselves, and that's reflected in how their romance has started.

could i please request one where manon is mated to a sensitive reader, she’s quiet and like hyperfeminine. She’s not a warrior or fighter, she’s an academic and hates fights. When they first met reader was getting hit on by some drunk men who dragged her outside a bar and manon saw this and saved her. Ever since then reader has been protected by manon and the bond snaps for them🥺🥺🥺 protective manon😍😍😍 literally someone jokes with her too much or says something mean and she gets tears in her eyes. relatable 🙃
author note:hii anon!! thank you so much for your request, i loved to write this
𝕾𝖜𝖊𝖊𝖙 𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌𝖘 (𝕸𝖆𝖓𝖔𝖓 𝖝 𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖉𝖊𝖗)
WARNINGS: mentions of violece, mostly fluff
Manon never thought her partner would be so feminine. She was a warrior, she had been trained to be a killing weapon and yet here you were, filling every room you entered with light.
You were sleeping peacefully next to her, your pink nightgown hugged every part of your body, your braid fell over your shoulder and the smell of your favorite soap that you used last night intoxicated Manon's senses.
She still remembered the night she met you. She was walking through the streets of Rifthold. Dorian had called all the rulers of Erilea and the Southern Continent to arrange some treaties. She was walking through one of the slums. The quality of life had changed drastically since Dorian took over as king, although there were still poor and rich people, the effort to create a better world was flourishing. Bars and taverns in full swing, music coming out of each of them, drunks lying in the streets, and then he saw you.
You had been inside one of the many taverns in that neighborhood with some friends, the sleeves of your long dress fit your thin arms and the flight of your skirt created a waterfall over your legs. It was late, the next day you had to work and although your friends insisted that you stay a little longer, in the end you convinced them, promising to stay another day.
That's when you ran into him. An older man, clearly drunk, tried several times to buy you a drink, you tried to ignore him but he was too insistent, so much so that he even followed you out onto the street. He grabbed your arm, pulling you towards him in order to give you a kiss. Shaking you tried to get him off of you and then you felt her behind you. Her presence was imposing on the entire street. With supernatural strength, she pushed the man away from you, slamming him against the wall. You had never seen anyone as beautiful as her. Not even the goddesses came close to her beauty.
Your fae senses picked up on what it was, witch. The man fled scared and your rescuer turned to you. Her golden eyes locked onto yours and a small thread began to grow inside you.
That same night, Manon took you to her room in the castle, and ordered the healers to take care of the bruise on your arm, as well as inspect you for any further injuries.
Since then Manon has not left you for a second. Months later, you accepted the mating bond and she made you her queen.
She noticed how you moved slightly, indicating that you were about to wake up. She moved the braid away from your shoulder, creating abstract patterns. You smiled sleepily, slowly opening your eyes.
"Good morning angel"
“Good morning,” you murmured, hiding in Manon’s shoulder.
You notice how her hands caress your back with a softness that is inappropriate for her. You hold her face with your hands and bring her closer to meet your lips. Manon loved the softness of your lips and the sweetness with which you kissed. You are so fragile, so feminine, so sweet that she promised to protect you from all the evils in the world and after all these years together, Manon had kept her promise.
You move away from Manon and get out of bed to go clean yourself. Halfway there you let out a small scream accompanied by a laugh as Manon had picked you up and was entering the bathroom with you on her shoulder.
Manon couldn't be happier to have you, and she showed it to you every day.

“You’ve made bail, Diaz.”  Eddie stands, wipes his sweaty hands off on his jeans, and clears his throat. “This isn’t even a real jail, Dwight,” he says, stepping through the makeshift cell door, and looks over at his rescuer. “Hi, Buck.”  Buck sighs. “Hi, Eddie,” he says, definitely a tad bit exasperated.

Warm and Glow
Malleus x female reader / Heavy spoilers from the Masquerade Event
Re-uploading my stories is prohibited.
Tumblr media
You see Malleus talking with Rollo, and you wonder if he forgives Rollo for destroying all the magic. All the chaos has finally been over for good, and you remember how Malleus was furious toward Rollo — he hurt so many people, his beloved living gargoyle friend, and this also includes you. Also faking the invitation too.
When you fell into the door trap, Malleus screamed your name, and all you saw was black. Falling into the abyss, you couldn't see where this fall would lead you, but you heard Malleus screaming your name.
"Y/N !!!!!!!!!!!"
He called your name, he had fear on his face, and for this, he went after you to catch you with his strong arms. You were afraid of where this giant abyss pit would lead and waited for you to be doomed, but suddenly you felt strong arms carrying you. You open your eyes to see who's carrying you, and upon seeing your rescuer, Malleus smiles toward you, not just any smile but a worried smile.
You could still feel the anger coming off him, and then you gently place a hand on his cheeks, and he also places a with your hands and intertwines them together.
You always wonder what makes him so different from others that they don't see, and yet he saves everyone and beats Rollo out of him when he was at the bell tower with help from Azul and Idia. And he even screams your actual name and that was the first time he shouted your name.
He is the next in line of Valley of Thorns and he still chooses to sacrifice himself for you and others to bring an end to this madness from Rollo that he has caused. You still remember when the VDC was destroyed during the Vil's overblot and he fixes the stage because he was really happy that you invited him to see the performance with him, and he even revealed his true name but you were not afraid of him, and you still call him, "Tsunotarou", even he gave his real name.
Rollo may be a human and Malleus is a fae but knowing the chaos that has been caused has already been answered, so this puzzle is; what makes a monster, and what makes a man? And now you see Rollo and Malleus having a "friendly" conversation, upon seeing this you know already who's the monster and man.
After a few minutes, Malleus walks toward you after he finished discussing with Rollo, and you quickly nervous you didn’t why what reason for this, but you sure the hero is walking toward you with a warm smile appear on his face, and you didn’t know what to do, it felt you were frozen in place.
You were in your beautiful f/c long dress that reached into the floor and soft glitter that shines from the dress. Echos of footsteps knowing, the man comes towards, and once he appears to you as you both stand in front of a white light.
The man that stands before you, his usual smile that you love to see whenever you and he are together at the Ramshackle dorm, is there with you and then he says that would make you blush, “ Y/N, would you dance with me?” and you couldn’t help but smile and accept his offer quickly, “Yes.” Then he quickly pulls into the middle of the hall and prepares for the grand final.
You see Malleus, Idia, and Azul standing as they prepare for the grand finale, Malleus still holding your hand, and soon you hear the music and Malleus sings the first lines of the song.
Scared of the dawn, I wish again and again
He twirls you as your dress sparkles, and then quickly brings you closer to him, while Idia and Azul dance gracefully behind you two.
Prayers far away light up the crimson lotus
And then he twirls you once again freely and your hair flows smoothly around matching the rhythm of your moving.
Resound the bells, carry my wish
Dreaming warm today  Reaching up high
Malleus always desires to be friends with everyone, but everyone at NRC fears him, and he feels like an outcast from the rest of everyone and making it difficult to make friends with everyone. For years, it has always been like that for him.
But one day everything changed when you came along and met him that first night from outside of your dorm, he always felt happy sharing his interest with you, and you were there listening to his beloved gargoyles. And you made him a valid person and made him feel like a normal person, as he is.
Sure, there are times Malleus doesn’t understand his emotions, but there you are helping him during his rage when he was using leftover magic he had when summoning the green lighting making everyone scared, but you step in and approach him and help him to stay calm.
He listens because you are his ONLY close friend.
I'm dancing my heart out in the city in full bloom
Then he catches you when you come back to him, and then he picks you up to the sky elegantly and puts you down, after that you and he sprint gracefully, and then Malleus grabs your both hands as he brings you closer to him, and he brings your hands together with his, as he holds them dearly as he doesn’t want to let you go.
‘Tsunotarou..’
And then he gives a kiss on your hand, and you only wish this day would never end, be together with him, a loyal man that would sacrifice his life to save his loved ones, even people would not accept, and yet he would do it no matter what put his life in danger to save others.
And ahead toward, into tomorrow!
With the final dance, Malleus puts an arm around your back and you move your head slightly back he yells the final words of the song, with everyone together in front of the ball.
For the rest of the night, you and he still danced slowly as moonlight glowed in front of you two and this truly felt like a paradise that this only going shared memory of you and him.

Please help/vote! Which Webnovel Premise should I write and serialize first?
So, I have two (New Adult) story ideas, and I can't seem to choose which one I'd like to focus on first 😆🤔 (I'm very eager to do both, but I need to manage my time effectively and that means not taking on too much on top of my webtoon lol). I most likely would be writing as serialized webnovels
STORY IDEA 1: (Loosely Based on a previous webnovel I started for a Tapas competition and then decided to scrap bc I wanted to rework the story and characters). "When two best friends go backpacking together, they get kidnapped into, and subsequently separated in, the Fae Realm. One young woman finds a rescuer in a wealthy and powerful female fae, while the other finds an unlikely friend in a socially scorned fae with a dark history." A tale of fae politics, romance, and history.
What makes me excited about this story: Involves a sapphic couple as the main romance, and I've done/doing a TON of worldbuilding to try to make this fae realm different than your usual ballad, while keeping all the tricky fae mischief you're used to ;)
STORY IDEA 2: "Four friends residing in an island empire must contend with their newfound magic powers, as magic leaks into their world for the first time in centuries, threatening not only their safety, but the world as they know it." Involves romance, set in a historical-inspired setting, quite a few queer leads, and a bunch of dumbasses that have to figure out how to save the world lol
What makes me excited about this story: I've literally had this story idea for over a decade, but always felt nervous writing it bc it's so "grand" of an idea. I've drawn the four main characters before (see here and here)
Anyway, I've been struggling with which story I should focus on first, and thought I'd let y'all tell me which story idea intrigues you the most??

Disney Songs I associate with Silver and Lilia. Why? Because.
Twst spoilers for Chapter 7
Baby of Mine (Dumbo)- Aside from it being a legit lullaby, I imagine that Silver used to face discrimination for being human in a fae-populated land, not helped by the fact that everyone and their mother believes Lilia is wasting his time raising Silver. With all that in mind, I can easily imagine Lilia singing this to Silver. Especially, “If they only knew sweet little you, they’d end up loving you too.” If I Never Knew You (deleted Pocahontas song)- I just love this song for Silver and Lilia, It could be about Lilia realizing how much he loves Silver as a son and how he would never realize how capable of love he was till they met. (I know he loved Malleus before finding Silver, but still.) So this is Love (Cinderella)- I see this as another song referring to Lilia realizing how much he loves his baby. (Thanks to @llondonfog and their anon for pointing this out.) Reflection (Mulan)- Namely, Silver’s POV as he wants nothing more than to bring honor to his father, but feels that he’s a failure. Two Worlds (Tarzan)- Talks about Lilia and Silver being from different worlds, but coming together to make one family. You’ll Be in My Heart (Tarzan)- A song from parent to child. How could it NOT be here? Make a man outta you (Mulan)- Lilia training Silver (and Sebek). Someone’s Waiting for You (Rescuers)- I think of this song when I think of baby Silver waiting for someone to find him. Once Upon a Dream (Sleeping Beauty)- This is mainly because the two are twisted from Sleeping Beauty and because I have a headcanon that these two met in a dream before Lilia found Silver, which is how Silver was able to wake up when the fae arrived.
And those are mine! What do you think? Agree? Disagree? What Disney Songs do you associate with the two? Comment or reblog with your answers!

I'm just saying. The titanic was an unsinkable ship that sank and the wealthy got to escape on lifeboats while the poor were left to drown.
I don't think the spirits attached to that ship would super appreciate it if a bunch of billionaires were using their death as entertainment when the equivalent of billionaires of that time were the ones that were allowed to escape.
(Upon further research the gates weren't locked to keep the lower classes from escaping, but instead they were locked because the lower classes caried earwigs, lice, and other diseases. So the gates locked to separate the lower classes from the upper classes. However, said precautions resulted in in a majority of the lower classes from being able to escape when the ship sank.)

I see you have had many asks but I am much curious about Witcher Yennefer (a witcher!Yennefer, part-Fae!Jaskier, modern with magic Yennskier AU) and literally all of your originals.
Any fun fact about one of the originals? 👀❤️
My Witcher!Yennefer modern with magic AU is a fic where Yennefer saves Jaskier's life and Jaskier being Jaskier, he's immediately smitten. But having spent several hundred years trapped in the Fae world and still not being entirely sure how courtship works in the human world, he thinks the best way of winning her heart is setting up increasingly elaborate scenarios where she needs to save his life.
A snippet:
“Well, hello.” The human sacrifice gazes up at Yennefer from the altar, batting big blue eyes like an ingenue in an old film. “Come here often?”
Yennefer has just cut through a half dozen of the cultists trying to bring about some kind of apocalypse, because people these days have far too much time on their hands. She’s covered in more viscera than she would like—she’s not Geralt, who can walk around covered in selkiemore guts for hours and hardly notice the stench. She isn’t in the mood to play the noble rescuer today; she was really hoping there wouldn’t be a human sacrifice involved. But of course there’s a human sacrifice. End of days cults aren’t known for their originality.
“Why the fuck would anyone come here?” With her blood-soaked steel sword, she gestures around the half-falling down, long abandoned house where the cult had the unfortunate idiot tied up.
Thoughtfully, he looks around. “I see your point. Though I suppose if anyone’s going to spend a lot of time skulking around definitely haunted houses, it would be a witcher. That’s what you are, right?” He bats his eyelashes again. “Two swords, medallion, slit-pupiled eyes. Though I’ll admit, no one ever told me witchers were so pretty.”
Yennefer gives him a long, unimpressed look, which he returns with a smile. “How fortunate that they didn’t gag you.”
“They kept threatening to. Apparently, my suggestions for how they could improve their villainy weren’t appreciated. Really, black robes, abandoned houses as lairs, chanting in archaic Elder? It was all a bit gauche, in my humble opinion.”
One of the gauche cultists comes charging at Yennefer, dagger raised. She slips a throwing star—a thoughtful Midwinter present from Aiden last year—from her belt and hurls it at the man. He collapses with a shriek as it embeds in his throat.“See?” The human sacrifice gestures as well as he can with his hands shackled to the altar. “No poetry. Truly, I owe you my life and my dignity. I would have never lived it down if I died like this. I shudder to think what kind of eulogy Valdo Marx would give.”
I don't know if this counts as a fun fact, but due to a major plot point in An Inconvenient Union, I've had to spend an inordinate amount of time lately contemplating the best preparation methods for an entirely fictional type of berry. So naturally, a spent part of this morning dissecting various types of berries to figure out the best ways to get all the seeds out. Which probably isn't close to the weirdest thing I've ever done for writing purposes.
Ask me about my WIPs!

I'm TQ (or Witchy), a self proclaimed soft and tender content creator. I play too much Stardew, cry a lot, and draw stuff. I love to roleplay in games, dive into lore, and I'm an animal rescuer in my off time! 🌿 Come visit The Potion Shop at Twitch.tv/WitchyTQ Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 5PM Pacific (most mondays 11AM) ~ the best place to lurk, sleep, or chit chat if you wish. My streams are stricly low sensory. Meaning there are no over stimulating sounds or visuals, though I do live downtown and the odd siren goes by but I try to mute them right away! 🖤 My favourite games include: Stardew Valley, Palia, Legend of Zelda (pretty much all of them but BotW specifically), Sword & Shield, and right now Fae Farm! Games I’ve played and love (some off stream): Strange Horticulture, Potionomics, Potion Craft, Bunny Park, Battle Chef Brigade, Cult of the Lamb, Divinity Original Sin 2, Hades, Hollow Knight, Lemon Cake, Little Witch in the Woods, Slime Rancher, Animal Crossing NH, Tails of Iron, Valheim, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Wydle Flowers, and every pokemon game ever. ✨ I’m sure there’s many I’ve missed but you get the idea, and you can always check out my Youtube Channel for VODs, Game News, Playthroughs, and Vlogs! I think the ACOTAR series is interesting for the huge shift in the trajectory of the story from the first book to the rest of the series, and how it stops being a twisted retelling of fairy tales to become something else entirely.
At the start of the first book, I thought it was pretty clear: this was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but with a dangerous fae world ruled by magic and magic laws. Tamlin was the Beast, obviously, and Feyre the Beauty; she agrees to enter "captivity" at Spring Court to as a consequence of her own actions, killing a member of Tamlin's court. It goes through the typical beats of that story, with the two warming up to each other and falling in love.
Then there's the first twist of the story, shifting it into another fairy tale, where Tamlin is taken captive by a "dragon" and taken to a "keep," and Feyre becomes the knight in shining armor, riding to his rescue. The story beats go somewhat like I expected, where Feyre undergoes trials and fights battles of all sorts to rescue her beloved from his captor. Due to Feyre's actions, they are able to defeat the "dragon" together, with Tamlin delivering the final blow.
So the first book has two arcs, two twisted retellings of familiar fairy tales in a dark fae world. It works as what it is, what it sets itself out to be.
And then the second book comes, and suddenly the books don't feel like fairy tale retellings. The story goes from Tamlin as the captive Beast being recused by his knight in shining armor Beauty, Feyre.... And turns into Dark King rescuing Beauty from the Beast's clutches by giving her a choice (?).
The narrative from the second book on seems to twist the events of the first book in subtle ways. Tamlin isn't seen as the captive "damsel in distress" any more, but is seen as someone who didn't do enough to save Feyre while she was saving him. Tamlin isn't seen as a Beast who is still worthy of love, but as a Beast who has been cruel and unworthy of love the whole time.
On the one hand, this could be an interest perspective shift. Maybe the fairy tales Feyre was living were too good to be true. Maybe she was deluding herself by living in these fairy tales. Maybe Tamlin was a monster the whole time and she just couldn't see it. Maybe she couldn't have been his knight in shining armor. Maybe she needed help instead.
But........ That's not at all what was set up in the first book. Tamlin and Feyre's story felt very much like a love story, with hurdles and struggles but nothing that couldn't be worked through, in the first book. Maas puts a lot of weight at one point on Tamlin's choice to put Feyre out of harm's way, to give her up forever and go alone into Amarantha's clutches rather than risk Feyre beinf harmed. He leaves her with means to live well in the human world. Yet Feyre loved him enough to throw all that comfort and safety away and throw herself into a dangerous situation to save him.
And it's very much emphasized how much under Amarantha's thumb he is, how powerless he is to fight back. He is the DAMSEL IN DISTRESS. It feels nonsensical, and like a nonsequitur, that he's suddenly painted for the rest of the series as a guy who never deserved Feyre's love, who could have done more to rescue his rescuer, to compare him unfavorably to Rhys, who was only able to help her as much as he did because of his position in Amarantha's court and nothing more.
I just feel a huge disconnect between book 1 and the rest of the series, and it's not something I feel like is justified or explained away by the rest of the books. I'll write more on this later, but the strange genre shift from fairy tale retellings to something else confuses me to no end. I don't know if it was deliberate by Maas, or whether she got sidelined by character she liked more or themes that she wasn't sure how to get across.... If someone knows more please feel free to let me know!!!

A Deadly Form of Love (Obey Me!) dark fic
content: Asmodeus comes to the aide of Adelha. The Avatar of Lust ensuring the one that harmed his beloved dragon maiden never does so again. Established relationships, angst, blood, injury, death. This fic has Asmodeus kill his enemies and go full demon dark so plz be warned ahead of time.
The cellar was dripping with blood. From the chunks of flesh still sticking to the walls to the stains of red on the ceiling as the floor ran with rivers of the liquid. Several shredded body parts scattered about as the demon walked with confident strides to the captive held there. Adelha had been crucified to the wall for her eyes to be blindfolded. Her nose bruised and bleeding for her lip to have a deep cut that was also slowly dripping down her chin. Her arms and sides looking as if someone had been filing against her scales to strip them from her body to collect. Yet the one rescuing her was gentle to remove the nails in her feet first. The nails in her hands soon removed for her rescuer to ease her shivering form to their knees. A soft cloak soon placed around Adelha's shoulders for her to lean into that lithe frame. A huff for air coming from the Fae woman for her to say, "I wasn't expecting you to show up, Asmodeus..."
The Avatar of Lust shook both hands to remove the still dripping blood from his fingertips before cradling Adelha close. His words silken yet deep to warn that Asmodeus was still in a dark mindset and mannerism. "As if I would keep a good lady waiting. If I didn't know better, I would be insulted." Asmodeus took care to open a small vial of magic healing extract and gently tip it up for Adelha to drink. His words washing against her silver white hair. "The others are hunting down the rest of the captives. Lord Diavolo gave us full permission to kill first and ask questions never. So we've been... Very busy tonight. To think some foolish demon nobles would try and eradicate so many of the Fae that moved to the Devildom like this." Adelha drank the offered healing extract to then cough a few times. Her own words pointed yet accepting. "The Fae clans would have done the same crusade as this. So I cannot complain. The Fae are a vicious species and tend to enjoy showing their power when the opportunity comes up. So this slaughter of fools would have happened regardless."
Asmodeus placed a kiss to Adelha's forehead to give a deep rumble from deep in his chest. A heat there in his voice as he speaks. "Addy. Would you be mad at me for keeping that blindfold on you? My hair and makeup are a mess. I hate to let you see me so disheveled." Adelha gave a huff of a laugh to shake her head. "I take it things got extra messy. All right. Let's pretend I was still out and didn't wake up until you get me down the street from here." Asmodeus lifts Adelha up bridal style to turn and slowly walk out of the cellar. The pause just long enough for Asmodeus to recite a spell that ignites everything in the cellar. The hungry black flames roaring to hungry life to begin consuming all. So Asmodeus waltzed out of the cellar with his precious dragon maiden to leave only ashes. By the time Lucifer caught up with them, Asmodeus had gotten his bloodlust tamped down so he was smiling sweetly. Reporting to Lucifer with that usual bubbly air and warm demeanor, "I found our favorite Dragon Vampire Fae lady! She only just came to! So I gave her that little gift Solomon helped her make last week! Would you be a dear and untie that blindfold for her, Lucifer? I'd rather not put the lady down and my nails already are cracked."

Dad: Lythari elf druid built like an oak tree, is the reason he is 6’2” and is as kind and compassionate as he is protective. His father is the main reason he can see through the mask others put up but also has the wisdom to know that most do it to keep themselves safe over any malicious intent.
Relationship with parents: Very close, loving, open and honest. Cared more about him being alive, healthy and happy/content than any perceived plan for his life. So long as he didnt grow up to be a dick, they cared less about what he wanted to do with the time the gods gave him.
Backstory:
Razzikel grew up loved and supported with parents who worked around him and with him instead of against. His curiosity was always encouraged, within reason, and his autonomy never questioned.
A parenting style that built a man who knew who he was, what he wanted and how much energy he was willing to spend to adhere to “civilized societies” made up rules.
It came as no surprise to anyone that once he was introduced to the wider world and “civilization” that he vehemently prefered the woods and wild places over cities and towns.
He easily and eagerly followed in the footsteps of his mother, joining her in the ranks of Melikke’s chosen, happily content to spend his long life in service with her side by side.
For 130 years he did just that, explorong both above ground and below, making and losong friends and occasional lovers as he outlived those with shorter lifespans, hinting down those the Mother of Rangers needed removing, and jist general living his best life in the wilds of Fae Rune.
Until, in his 150th year of life, his mother’s past came back to haunt them.
His Aunt, in an attempt to make sure that she was the only one to takw over the noble house his mother once belonged too, amushed them.
Evwn though the attempt failed, he and his parents knew that their wounds would only slow him down and sacrificed themselves so he could take into his wolf form and escape.
The grief and fear of the loss traps him in his wolf form for 15 years, his conciousness only rising to the surface in short bursts as he wanders aimlessly, seeking a safe place to rest.
When he finally comes back, all he remembers is the snap of metal as agony rips through his leg, the sound of a soothing and rumbling voice, the feel of gentle calloused hands, the scent of herbs and earth, and a pair of hazel eyes.
He wakes up stark naked on a large stone slab in the middle of a druids grove, causing a bit of a stir that is quickly quelled by his rescuer, a large druid named Halsin and the grove’s Archdruid.
With Halsin’s help, he was able to learn to be a person again, find peace in grieving, and pick up not a few new skills to enhance his abilities as a Ranger.
For ten years he called that grove home, using his skills to keep the place supplied and protected, expanded his knowledge of the wilds as well as himself and found in Halsin a profound and deep friendship he thought he would never have been able to find.
But, eventually, as with all rangers, the call to wander eventually came and he heeded it without question.
For the next 50 years he wandered the wilds of Fae Run as Melikki’s chosen like his mother before him. Hunting, guiding, and exploring as he willed, using his raven to send letters and drawings back to the grove of the places he had been and the things he was doing.
And anytime his travels put him in the area of the grove, he always swung by to rest in one of the few places he called home.
Halsin always waiting there to greet him at the gate with a bear hug and a bowl of stew.
At least Until moonrise fell.
In the chaos they were seperated, both men fleeing in opposite directions, the shadow curse cutting them off on opposite sides.
With no way of knowing if Halsin got out alive or if he was trapped in there, he spent 50 years trying to get through without sucess.
Knowing he was out of his depth he went looking for someone to help him that could better understand what happened.
That’s where he met the beaitiful and engnimatic tiefling known as Crow, a great old one willingly locked in the body of a mortal in order to learn the experience of mortal life, with acess to knowledge far beyond most understanding.
In exchange for helping answering his questions and showing him aspects of mortal life he was curious about, Crow agreed to help him find evidence of Halsin’s survival.
Falling in love hadn’t been part of the equation but…it was what it was.
Thankfully together they were able to find out he had yet lived and with use of Razzikel’s ranger skills was able to track down the approximate location of the new grove, sending his raven out to send a long awaited message.
They met near the old temple of Selune, both men wrapping each other in a long awaited embrace before catching up.
Over the next 40 years Razzikel and Crow would do as much as they could to help Halsins research and visit once every few years when they could.
But, when the inevitable came, and Cain’s mortal life came to its end, the grief of the loss hit Razzikel harder than ever.
Not wanting to place another burden onto Halsin’s already heavy shoulders he began wandering again.
He wandered for 4 years, ending up far to tje north near Murkwood where, through a hillariously annoying srt of cirmcumstances, met the one and only Dritz Do’Urden and his new born child Brionna.
The two men bonded over the mistaken identity that led to thier meeting and theor life’s as rangers and in each other found family they hadn't had in a long time.
The next six years Razzikel lived with them, enjoying being an uncle and an elder brother, while restarting to reconnect with Halsin through messages once again.
But, as seems to be his luck, fate just…wouldn't leave him in peace.
As the nautiloid screamed acrosd the sky, he tossed his niece into the waoting arms of her father as the tentacle came down.
He knew they would get away, even if he didn’t.
Before the tentacle hit his back, he prayed to the four gods that had guided him all his life,
“Let them be safe and let my death be quick.”
