#62: Theseus fell
When the myths speak of falls and ignorance           They refer to Icarus           But he was not the only-                      Not even close.                      There with many who meet their demise,                       To their own mistakes and lies.           Icarus had fallen but before- he flew.                                           -Its true.
Theseus was different,           And there was no glory in his fall. Theseus fell because of pride           Because he was content to be ignorant           Because his sins were selfish and deliberate
Theseus fell because of a trick           Athena’s gamble which paid off Theseus fell for greed, not freedom           Because Icarus was a dreamer           And Theseus was a hero
When the myths speak of heroes-           They will refer to Theseus                       (the hero)          Not Icarus-                       (the dreamer)           Of quests and battles won           Not of creation and desperation. That’s alright-           We know the truth                      You and i           Icarus fell, (flew) yes-                       But Theseus fell, too

In vain I had at heart to find The center and the end of space. Beneath some burning, unknown gaze I feel my very wings unpinned

Not Icarus
I have my wax wings
Strapped onto my back
I cruise over sea
I cruise under sun
But,
I am not him.
I do not soar
I do not fly
I don’t let my ego
Get the best of me.
I was given
All the warnings
Beware the sea
Beware the sun
But,
I am him.
I still sink
The water
Rushes over me
‘Til I’m not there.
Icarus
Went too high
I did not
I kept low
But,
Weighed down
Sea spray
Sinking
Beneath the waves
Arms failing.
Not my
Ego
No fall
No sun
But,
I
Still
Sank
Complacent
Fearful.
I
Am
Not
Him
But,
I would have rather
Fallen from the sun
Than sank beneath waves
Not knowing how to
Soar.

The Lover’s Death
Whispers of the past,
Echo down in the halls of my heart.
Your voice travels down,
To the spot you once were.
I recall sweet moments,
Of a soft love that made me fly.
But then I recall,
The grand fall of my demise.
Like Icarus—I was naive.
To ignore the truth of your faults.
Like the sun, you burned my wings,
Alone, I began to fall.
No hands reached out for me,
No tears shed for my death.
From the ashes,
A new phoenix emerges.
Reformed wings take flight again.

Hi! This is my first post! It’s an excerpt of a short story I wrote currently posted on my wattpad.
I wanted to try writing in second person, and I think the fall of Icarus is a perfect story to try it on. I decided to make the reader Icarus himself, and read the story through him as the protagonist. I hope this makes the reader feel more immersed in the story and my writing.
“The tower your father and you were confined in was above King Minos’ palace. After your father chose to aid Theseus as he fled the labyrinth, enraging King Minos’ who felt you should share your father’s penalty. You stayed in a diminutive room all day, your eyes constantly staring at the stone walls unless you felt energized enough to climb onto the window and sit on the rim, allowing yourself to be entertained by the view of the sea and the view of Crete. Your father was at his wooden desk, pondering about who knows what, your father was always considering the next item he could invent.
You stared out with yearning eyes, the longing to jump was hardly restrained by your instinct to survive. You reached a hand out to feel the soft breeze blowing past the window.
“Icarus come sit inside,” Your father ordered, “You might fall asleep on the window and fall. You must be more cautious,”
You get off the edge of the window, and rather, stand inside and lean on the window, never taking your eyes off the waves.”

good lines tag
tagged by @encrucijada! i did the other one and then immediately forgot they tagged me in two of them. also i'm actually really proud that i wrote twice this week so i do wanna share some fun bits and a ridiculous one too.
lines i'm proud of
His wrist was beginning to ache againtoo, and he switched to dig his fingers there to cap the ache in one place.
He could just leave the phone here, he still had the car. He could just- leave. Drive until he left the last gate and keep going until the roads stopped and the gas ran out and he had to walk for ages into the forest and hills until the drone of the bugs drowned out any other thought he could ever have. Find a library maybe, try to look up the last location of Bee again and beg her to let him try again, better this time, he was so sorry, and surely she could see it had all been from the heart? He could drive it into the greenhouse Phillip held so damn near to his heart and-
Theo took a deep breath and held it for one, two, three  seconds. Breathed out for one, two, three more seconds. He was okay. He could do this. He could break this down into easy steps and then come home again.
ridiculous of of context
“Sam.”
More shouting.
and with that i have officially finished one scene for fall of icarus and i'm very proud of myself
