working at a grocery store has only made me even angrier about inflation and how food, water, and shelter isnt free

like just looking at groceries (not water or shelter) i see just a few bags (maybe around 5 or so) of food costing over $125 USD regularly. I've seen orders upwards of $600. and sure those have been bigger orders but no food should cost that much.

my coworkers and i shouldn't be complaining about the price of food when we get employee discounts.

a single bag of food for myself (usually containing some small pizzas, crackers, milk, and cereal) regularly costs between $50-60. minimum wage in my state is 15/HR. thats about four hours of work for one bag of food

a coworker who works on the front end of our store prides herself on being able to catch theives. everyone says how good she is at it. and sometimes it makes sense, sometimes people are just stealing to steal. but how do you ever know?

when the card reader we take outside is broken we are supposed to have the customers come inside to pay for their groceries if they're paying with EBT. there's a woman who's a regular who has a few small children and when she comes to pick up groceries they're usually asleep in the car.

am i supposed to make her choose between leaving her children alone in the car or waking them up and taking them inside?

we aren't supposed to accept tips but if we don't accept tips then how else are we supposed to afford our groceries?

i haven't seen a single person stealing food. you cannot steal whats already stolen.

although im no longer a christian, the teachings of my childhood have stuck with me, and in the bible it says "When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you."

society has reaped right up the the very edge and beyond of its fields, so it's up to us to reap what we can

I hate working in the food industry. Disregarding the fact that food should be free in the fucking first place. Food that is on its way to the trash bin should be extra fucking free to anyone who wants it!

My coworkers are having a fit bc one kid who works here is taking the outdated food home after its been scanned out(a thing they have all done btw) and he was "being sneaky about it"

I hate my job. I hate working with these assholes who have no compassion for anyone unless they decide that person has earned it by being a good worker. This kid is a minor btw.

There's actually no good reason why the government can't provide it citizens food free of charge. You should simply be able to get food, no ifs or buts about it. When there is no famine, and we have plenty of surplus, why are we even buying it.

Like, isn't that the whole reason we built civilization? to have stable food? That feels like the hallmark of the first truly modern nation: one that can provide food to all of its citizens with zero hungry in it's borders. Again, most nations have TOO MUCH FOOD!! Reminder that Palestinians in Gaza are being deliberately starved by Israel. Families in gaza are boiling plant leaves and eating them. They're also eating animals and birds food to stay alive. There are reported cases of kids and infants who died out of hunger and/ or cold. Starving people is part of genocide too. THE RULES that I have been going off of, for everyone voting as if this were a fight to the death:

this is a regular episode of Danny Phantom

the cats are loose in Amity Park, this is not an arena or anything.

there are a lot of cats but they aren't trying to kill Danny in particular or are unrealistically aggressive, they are just cats, a good chunk of them being kittens or unable to fight, probably confused as to where they've been transported to

they act like normal feral cats do (there is a difference between ferals & strays). they are not smarter (they think cars are animals) or trained any more than in canon, which does not include fighting humans with technology that can trap cats (it is canon that they cannot fight this & do not train to fight this)

the cats do not have special superpowers that can oneshot Danny, because this is not canon in Warriors. they are literally just animal ghosts. i think they have prophetic visions about the clans, but I don't see how this helps them escape Danny's C&R program as it didn't help the last time

Danny has all of his canon powers

Danny has all of his "training" & practice from canon

Danny has all of the canon Fenton tech, maybe even ghost proof live traps because let's be real, Maddie & Jack would immediately make a bunch if there was a ghost cat problem

Danny has the benefit of looking up "how to catch feral cats"

Danny has help from whoever he is allied with in canon

we're all stupid because this is not the question we should be focusing on

Danny would win, but it would take him months to catch all of them & he would suffer the whole time

he's a dog person too so he wouldn't know how to handle them. Sam would be able to handle them but as soon as any of them start to warm up to Danny (probably like Pinestar or another warrior-turned-kittypet) Cujo would show up & they'd all scatter

except for Swiftpaw, he'd probably fight Cujo, traumatizing him & making it impossible for him to get along with cats in the future, obviously making the situation worse

How to support the WGA Strike

Okay so. At our member meeting the other night someone asked if we are going to do a campaign asking people to cancel their subscriptions. Leadership said no -- the problem with a campaign like this is that it could really backfire. If it becomes a big, publicized thing, then the pressure is on to have a huge percentage of cancellations from the general public, which look, realistically, we know we’re not likely to receive, even from people who are sympathetic to us. So an official campaign is not something they’re interested in pursuing, though, of course, any pressure our allies and supporters can put on the companies of their own accord is very welcome.

They also said that out of all of the companies in the AMPTP, Netflix is the fucking worst.

So, with all that said, I’d like to address everyone who has so kindly been messaging me to ask how they can show their support. Here’s a suggestion, not from the WGA in any official capacity but just a thought from your friend and fellow Tumblrina Sam: Cancel your Netflix subscription. When they ask why, tell them it’s because you want them to return to the table and give us a fair deal. Then donate your subscription fee to the Entertainment Community Fund, which is a fund that is available to any worker in the entertainment industry who is negatively impacted by the strike.
