tonights acotar thoughts are with the Illyrian women and how rhysand has utterly failed them despite his supposed efforts
Hes ‘allowed’ them to become warriors if they wish. But thats not even the bare minimum. from my memory he acknowledges that he doesnt enforce the wing clipping laws (smooth move) so that’s basically useless and as to be expected of a man, he misses the point of feminism and equality laws. WHERE are the laws and protections for women in marriages?? if the illyrian are so ‘brutal’ and ‘backwards’ the assumption can be made that divorce isn’t a thing unless the man requests it. No women requested divorces and probably no such thing as no fault divorces. As well as forced marriages (which also brings up the consent age) Adding on, what about abortions and other pre natal and natal laws and protections? again, assuming women arent allowed to have abortions or simply any bodily autonomy, where are those decrees rhysand? Im not even getting into the potential of LGBTQ+ illyrians and their rights (Logically there are LGBTQ+ illyrians but ofc sjm wouldn’t mention them)
He makes such a fuss about it being a womans choice (a hypocrite as we see in acosf) yet unless a woman is able too or wants to fight he doesnt seem to care. Which is also a major flaw of sjms writing, women only gain their independence if they can kick ass and fuck as they want. Which is of course valid but thats a very shallow way to view feminism and equality. The whole point is that a woman can choose, wether its to be a warrior or a stay at home mother, but theres nothing done for those women who want that lifestyle.
This has influenced me in my fic writing a lot to where a this topic has become a major focal point in my fic somewhat by accident. I think that logically there would be a rebellion from mostly illyrian women against rhysand, hes promised them so much yet has delivered so little.

i will never forgive transphobes for anything, but especially not for turning "fujoshi" into a dogwhistle for "i don't believe gay trans men are really gay or men". because now we can't have meaningful discussions about the harm fujoshis have caused the lgbtq community without a billion disclaimers. it's especially frustrating as an asian gay trans guy, because white fujoshis are so extremely creepy towards people like me.

when the story about werewolves (historically an effective metaphor for the queer experience) turns out to be an allegory about the queer experience: 😮 (this is shocking for some reason)

Try though I may not to get invested in people who are Perfect Strangers to me just because they have an affable online persona, I do find myself very endeared to Brandon Sanderson. I have read none of his books, but I think his YouTube videos are very enjoyable and I am much relieved that he has both vocally affirmed his support of LGBTQ+ people in general, and trans people specifically, and has apologised (in a way that seems very sincere and earnest to me) for clumsy and unintentionally homophobic things he has said in the past. Which is, like, more than can be said of some fantasy authors.
#I knew vaguely that he was a member of the church of lds and was like... wary#but he seems to be taking the position that if mormonism is going to get less hostile to lgbtq+ people#that can only be accomplished by sincerely devout lgbtq+ allies staying in the church and making it a more inclusive and welcoming place#which I like... feel is misguided#but also I was not raised mormon and do not have a mormon spouse and family and I am not a sincere believer in the mormon faith#so it is very easy for me to say 'just don't be a mormon anymore'#he also says some stuff I feel is reeeally misguided about how it's good actually that dead people can be baptized mormon#and that mother theresa was good#and communism is bad#but like... I think he is a sincere and kind person who is trying his best#and I appreciate the honesty of him saying 'I believe these things and I won't pretend I don't'#I like when people don't humour me and really do try to be my ally instead of just repeating the party line so I don't think they're Bad#and given that his views on the queer community have evolved#I don't think it's impossible that he could realize a few years down the line that it is not okay to baptize the dead into your religion#but also as I said up top: brandon sanderson is a complete stranger to me and I should not devote this much time and mental energy#to trying to better understand his true character‚ values and beliefs#because that is not relevant to me or something I can ever know#@me just enjoy him being enthusiastic about writing fantasy novels on youtube in an unreflective and uncomplicated way‚ you big weirdo

When media only represented lgbt people as sassy and promiscuous, everyone cried for more wholesome stories. Now that the norm is wholesome falling in love stories, people are demanding kinks again.
Girl, your enemy isn't one or the other. Your enemy is The Single Narrative and pretending that either representation is Bad is a fool's game.
Just because something is more prevalent at the moment doesn't make it inherently bad. It's perfectly good to represent that parts of the experience. We just need to recognise that we need to start diversifying our stories when one particular narrative starts becoming too prevalent, instead of declaring one thing Bad Representation and going into the exact opposite camp to show how Not That we are. If that's the only attitude we have, then we risk making this new Opposite the only new narrative.
Prevalent depictions tend to come in waves of reactions to things happening in society but also very much in relation to previous depictions. You see this not just inside LGBT narratives but also in media representation of racial stereotypes, focus on masculine and feminen tendencies in fashion history, etc.
Lately though, I've been seeing posts getting more and more hostile towards the Previous Representation as if it's that experience's fault for existing - such as lgbt people who "pass straight" vs "incredibly queercoded", narratives of people who want to heal troubled family relations and a general tendency for creative work (especially in writing prompts) to just take one trope and inverting it, then calling that the peak of creativity, even when there's not necesarrily any bottomline thought to what this new story is trying to say beyond "being the opposite".
That's not to say any one person who wants to try turning tropes on their heads are inherently Problematic or anything of the sort, but it's worth examining if one representation makes that representation inherently problematic, or just in need of more diversity.
More diversity than just pointing at the opposite camp and making that the new norm until we're all sick to death of that one. Lest we just repeat the same cycle without creating actual diverse representation; Or even worse, start creating the idea that the beautiful, multi-faceted experience that is the LGBT community as a whole just falls into new binaries of experiences than just sex and preference.

I don't know why, but I find so much comfort in seeing fictional characters exhibit demiromantic tendencies or behavior. I have nothing against, but never understood or felt personally comfortable with the concepts of love at first sight or dating people off the bat to get to know them rather than having a platonic relationship first. It's always pleasant to see a slow, long term bond between characters to really make me feel like they understand one another and the feelings just begin to develop after that bond is foraged as a sort of result of this closeness and understanding.

Authors will write fictional characters in the 1990s that are basically an amalgamation of homophobic tropes then go online in the 2020s and talk about how iconic they were for writing lgbtq characters then like HELLO??

Hello, I'm working on a fantasy story with LGBTQIA+ characters in it, and I was wondering if I could get some advice. One of my main characters is a trans girl, her name is Andie, and I was thinking of writing out her friends and her twin brother being supportive of her in various ways. Like her brother using his allowance to get her vocal training, her friend who works at the potion shop (which in my story is really just a magical pharmacy) getting her estrogen, a giantess who doesn't let anyone dare deadname her, stuff like that.
But, I'm wondering, is that supportive in a good way? Is there a wrong way to show her friends and family supporting her? The story wouldn't just be about Andie transitioning, but since it is part of her character it should come up at points, yes? I'm thinking about doing it subtly, just dropping small hints that she isn't cis, I don't want that "omg she's a guy?!" joke, (cause I hate that) but I don't not want to bring it up, cause it's an important part of who she is, so I'm wondering how to write it right, and show that those around her are supportive an appropriate way. I've watched and read some things on how to write for trans characters, but as far as I know I don't know anyone trans, and I'm not trans, so I'm worried about doing this wrong. Apologies for the ask being so long, and if there's questions about my goals or characters feel free to message me, but any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance ❤
Apologies for the (very) late response, it's been a hectic year.
First and foremost, I'll point you toward some of our older posts addressing the elephant in the room re: navigating transmisogyny while writing transfem characters. (Disclaimer: some of them use outdated and/or provocative language, but this fortunately doesn't take away from the quality of advice.)
Avoiding transmisogynistic stereotypes
Addressing the elephant in the room (via @scriptlgbt)
Back to basics: navigating trans terminology
The 'cis savior' trope and how to escape its clutches (via @milf-harrington)
On flashbacks
Writing gender dysphoria & gender questioning as an outsider
Hopefully these resources will help you gain a better baseline understanding of not only how to write trans characters, but what sort of threats they might be up against and how they'd try to deal with them.
Ideally, you ought to write up a rough draft of a scene where your transfem character comes out or discusses elements of her transness, and then pick through it with a proverbial fine tooth comb looking for words and phrases that set off your 'this is stereotypical' alarm bells. This would be the lowest maintenance method of revision, plus it would help you gage just how likely you are to fall into that trap of regurgitating harmful stereotypes.
From what you've described, I think your sense that something is 'off' stems from recognizing that you haven't decided how your character would deal with the transmisogyny she faces, which is a whole new ballpark.
While it's admirable to put effort into exploring the discrimination your characters might face, I think it's important to ask yourself questions like "does my story need to talk about transphobia?" and "how would the plot be affected if this character's identity was respected by everyone, even the antagonists?"
When in doubt, don't hesitate to play around with the building blocks of your story.

I'm gonna copy/paste this to some other blogs too because I would like advice from people with different perspectives
Am I weird or inconsistant for wanting to marry a fellow aroace person?
Society today always ties mariage and love together but historically and legally (at least in my country) it was (is?) not the case. Mariage was a contract between two families to perpetuate the bloodline, to keep lands, goods and properties between them, to socially protect both parties and help them to enrich themself, and while love between the two individuals was always a nice addition it was not a viable reason to get married/divorced (that and the all "only hetero wedding" cause religion is always a party pooper, but it's an all other point).
At it's roots mariage is only a social and economic contract but today the only good reason to be married is romantic love? And I'm just 😐 about that.
Don't get me wrong, I find it fantastic that Love is now a primary variant when before a lot of couples where stuck together because the family didn't ask or care for for their consentement. But now it's the ONLY reason people will accept the mariage of others and when I try to explain myself that I want it as a partnership with a friend to live my life people tries to... Invalidate me?
Like I just want to meet a good friend (that could support living with me every day 😅) laugh with them, cry with them, support each other, and that we like it or not mariage is a way to do so cause the state loves families cause they are profitable💲💲
So the state offers (or is supposed to) socials advantages and economic safety to married couples that it doesn't to single people.
And while I kinda agree with the reasonning behind it, I'm also sad to be more subjected to instability because I don't feel romantic love.
I've asked it to different people (both lgbt and not) and I was called greedy because I only want to profite from the eco/social benefits of the mariage, and I was like Yes ??!! That's the reason why this contract exist ?? And it's a natural and beautiful thing when the two persons love each-other but it's bad, greedy, I'm a leech/a parasite that only want to suck the money out of the system for myself because it's for "helping to support the children of the family" But there is plenty of CisHet couples and LGBT couples that can't or doesn't want kids but are still allowed to marry, but I'm weird for wanting it?
Because I only love my friends and I'm not IN LOVE with them? Because I don't want to fuck them?
Why my platonic love towards my friends, peoples dear to my heart, is less valid than the Oh so beautiful, Oh so pure, Oh so sacro-saint romantique one ?!
I've also tried to convey my ideas through rough sketches of a little comic on another site and some told me they didn't see the point, others to "just found a roommate and stop being weird" and someone accused me of queerbaiting because I depicted myself (a girl) with another girl and I was told I wanted to profit from a queer audience without wanting to write a WlW story properly, and I don't know it hurted me to receive those replies, to not be able to tell what I wanted to do, what I was craving for, that I started crying on the spot it was the first time I felt so invalidate as an AroAce and it came from an other lgbt member, like shit lady I'm trying to express something difficult for me why did you felt the need to insult me like that !!!!??? I've also received creepy DMs from guys that wanted to help me discover thE ReAL DeAl fuck every one of them !!!!
I just want to find my soulmate in this stupid universe but I know mine will be a Friend, a sibling from a different family. We will eat as every other couples, we will arguing over the evening movie as every other couple, we will stress together over taxes and rent like every other couple, we will love each other but of a simple and serene love that only friendship can create, completely platonic but nonetheless true. BECAUSE WE WILL BE TWO RESPONSIBLES AND CONSENTENT ADULTS THAT KNOW WHAT THEY WANT
I just want an other idiot to be a couple of idiots that helps each other to live in a society that despise single people and exposed them as failure to enforce it's own nuclear family model
And if I want us to signed a stupid mariage contract together I dont understand why everyone else tries so hard to make it weird !!!!!!
I'm sorry if it appears rude, I'm still under the heat of the emotion and not an english speaker
I want comment ? advice ? answer ? acknowledgment ? I dont know am I actually the weirdo ? 😞
Hi anon,
I apologise for taking so long to respond to this. I hope your life is going well :)
No, I don't think you're weird, inconsistent or greedy for wanting to marry someone platonically for tax benefits. It's not wrong to want the same benefits as romantic couples without forcing yourself into a romantic relationship. As long as both you and your partner consent to it, it’s totally fine!
This is not the first time I hear about aspecs wanting to marry for tax benefits. The concept is quite present in examples of relationship dynamics in qprs (queer-platonic relationships, a type of relationship that isn't romantic but goes beyond the social norms for friendships).
Aros already have a natural disadvantage to this system and because of that we won't ever be able to marry for romantic reasons. We're at a disadvantage for something we can't control and that's what many allo people don't understand. You want to marry because of (a different kind of) love, but even if it was exclusively for money benefits, it's none of other people's businesses.
I'm sorry you faced so much backlash. Those people were extremely rude. Real people can't "queerbait", that's a concept applied to fictional characters only; those people who told you to just find a roommate wouldn't certainly be happy to just be a roommate with a romantic partner. As I said, those people fail to understand that it's not a choice to not be romantically attracted to someone and probably fail to think outside of their allo experience and the amatonormative society. It's really unfortunate though that queer people, who should be supporting you, are the ones being hateful.
So basically, it's totally fine to want marriage for non-romantic reasons. Other people think they know what is best for you but they don't. Follow your own path and think of your and your partner's happiness before other's opinions. There's nothing wrong to benefiting from a societal contract like marriage. Honestly I think it's a smart choice.

One of those ‘non-x fans; pick something that happens in the show’ but it’s about Color Show and the options are 'pick which of these writing choices pissed you off the most’
#Hayley Speaks#The poor racism allegory with the White Fang and making the white cat girl the mouthpiece for it?#(Yes I know Monty is a man of color who was trying to write about his own experiences. But he still dropped the ball on it.)#Could it be the ableism surrounding the man who's half-prosthetics and the implications they tried to push about him becoming-#-less human as a result of losing another limb?#Could it be the ableism about the previous pushed further by making the robotic girl human and pushing this as a good thing-#-because now she's no longer robotic and burdened by...I don't know; not being flesh?#I didn't watch that season I just fucking hated what they did with Penny?#Could it be that they killed her once; brought her back and then did all that; and THEN KILLED HER AGAIN???#Could it be the hypocritical lessons on trust and how apparently the main characters are allowed to keep secrets-#-but it's BAD when everyone else does?#Even if that secret is literally 'hey the big bad cannot be killed' which would be VERY IMPORTANT to tell the guy they're working alongside-#-because his WHOLE PLAN hinges on the knowledge that she CAN BE KILLED???#Could it be everything with Pyrrha??#Could it be that in the recent season they had the main character kill herself from depression and the narrative frames this as a good thing#Like 'Oh you've been grieving about the choices you've been making and are extremely depressed-'#'But actually you're perfect the way you are and don't need to change anything about yourself?'#...Oh yeah the whole 'the main characters never learn anything because the narrative frames ALL their choices as the right ones.' thing.#That's annoying too#Could it be the mistreatment of the LGBTQ+ staff on the show that came to light; only for the remaining staff to canonize-#-a wlw ship they'd been teasing for TEN YEARS#And then started pushing merch for them less than an hour after the episode dropped??#Could it be that I can't even say the name of the show here because the fans are rabid to even the most MILD of criticism about it??#Dear God I hate this show

#actually i am really sick of my family for making me feel like ‘being liberal’ Or Whatever is my only personal trait#because like i used to voice opinions on things until they made me feel bad/crazy for it#but now when they whip out the most batshit insane take on something & i’m just like ‘um i dunno…but to each their own’#& they still act like i’m crazy i’m so 💀#like my only cousin who’s into p/j/o was talking about how the new book (& while he ‘doesn’t care’ that Nico’s gay it—#‘came out of nowhere’ 🙄) the new book is written by two authors—one of them being a gay man because Richard wanted the input—#because he didn’t feel qualified to write it as a straight man or something idk#but my cousin. said. that if a straight man ‘can’t’ write a gay story then a woman can’t write a man’s story & vice versa#which. oh my god no#for one thing i do think anyone can write any story even/especially if it’s out of their depth but they should absolutely reach out—#if they want firsthand accounts of experiences like what it’s like to be gay etc#but also. of course a woman can write a man & vice versa what kind of take even is that? like yeah some people do it really weird—#(‘she boobed breastily down the stairs’)#but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be allowed if anything people should learn about the experiences of others#in general his takes of ‘i don’t Care i just wish it wasn’t Every Character that’s not how it Used To Be’#like 1.) if richard wrote lgbtq/poc main characters in 2005 he probably wouldn’t have sold many books#and 2.) it’s Greek mythology. you get what you sign up for#anyways yeah i’m really quiet at family functions but even when i just quietly disagree i’m made to feel really bad about it#& the next function is literally my grad party like next week ://#but after that there shouldn’t be anything for a while#rose.txt#tw vent

Y/N In
Hallow-Heights
Chapter 1 :
A night with Gray Davis
Warning: Mentions of one night stand, drinking, etc.
A night out, that’s all you had planned. A drink or two among friends, you hadn’t expected things to go how they did. Yet there you were three drinks in,wearing a tight bodycon dress. The strobe lights bounced off the stage causing you to wince at the sudden light.
The Keepsakes pub was known for its many affairs. The heat from the alcohol snuck up on you as you placed a cold hand to your face.
“Whoa, y/n! Oh my god that Sexy guy is tooootalllly checking you out!!!” One of your drunk companions slurred their words. You let out a groan before glancing over to see the man. He was tall, dark and handsome, with the face of chiseled marble.
“You should go dance with him! Look at the way he moves!!” Your friend squealed watching like a hawk stalking prey. you licked at your lips, tasting a mix of your lipstick and the fruity drink you just had.
Your eyes fixed on him as he danced. The way his body swayed to the music was enticing, alluring even. You felt drawn in as if you’d been hypothesized by his movements.
“He is quite the dancer isn’t he?” You said before the man's eyes met your own. A blush ran over your cheeks as he walked up to Your Friends and yourself.
“Hey, I couldn’t help but notice your eyes on me. You guys are like a pack of lions hunting prey.” The man said with a deep laugh. He squeezed close to you. You could feel the hairs on your arms touch. Unable to remove your gaze from his he gave you a wink.
“You sure are cocky aren’t you? Thinking everyone is looking at you.” The snarky comment left your lips without you realizing it.
“Oh? So you weren’t just watching the way my ass moved in these jeans?” As the line left his lips you choked on air.
“N-no! How can you say that so easily?!”
The man chuckled in response.
“Ohh but you don’t have to lie to me, I’m just another piece of candy for you women.” He said with another wink. “I’m sure you’ve heard of me, there’s plenty of clients who wander these streets.”
“Clients? You mean your a-“ before you could finish your words the man pressed a finger to your lips. He smirked at you and removed his finger once you were silent.
“Names Gary but most people call me candy…” he smiles at you before leaning in close to your ear.
“So what do you say? Shall we get out of here?” You stare at the handsome man from the sides of your eye. The smell of sweat and a woody cologne fill your nose. a sigh leaves your lips before your heated face speaks again.
“Fine…I’d like to spend a night with you candy..” with those words you were rushed out from the bar and into a small brown car.
The next morning you woke up in an apartment you didn’t recognize all alone. A loud buzzing sound coming from a night stand where your phone sat. It was well charged and buzzing with texts from your friends.
“At least he had the courtesy to put my phone on the charger..” you muttered as you rubbed your throbbing head. The room sat empty just you alone and the sound of an alarm ringing outside the door.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say I have a TikTok now, where I talk about my stories (mostly the one I’m currently working on)! The username is @brannaboothauthor and I hope some of you go check it out!
The story I am currently working on is called The Winners Shall be Write, and it’s about two main characters, a hero and a villain (mostly the villain). Rowen (R-OW-en) (the villain) and Bryce (the hero) and their journeys trying to take down/reform the hero commission currently running the city they live in (cuz that shiz corrupt). I based a lot of it off of the American government and what I see in the world we live in today. There are four teams at play: the Villains, who want to take down the Hero Commission and use violent tactics to do so; the Heroes, who are usually corrupt and try to take down the villains and vigilantes, but mostly ignore the rampant small crimes; the Vigilantes, who tend to keep to themselves and try to deal with the small (average) crime; finally, the Civilians who just try to live without getting caught the crossfire of a superpowered being fight. Oh, right, there’s superpowers, too.
I hope you guys check it out! :D
