Church bells rang as the few last of the ton arrived a church for a Sunday mass. The Bridgerton’s being one of them. All dressed in their Sunday’s best. Violet ran her fingers quickly through Hyacinth’s curls that looked out of place. Francesca noticed Colin’s tie hung sideways as she tapped him against his shoulder. Colin turned confused to her as Francesca pointed at his bow. Colin looking down widened his eyes in a brief panic and started working on his tie. Francesca sighed slapping his hands away so she could adjust it for him. Benedict was chatting with Eloise as they neared the church.
Gregory walking composed by Anthony. Anthony had his hands behind his back as his gaze rose resting on a person amidst the crowd. They were on you while you stood with your parents and many siblings. Four to be exact minus you. Five children in total. All girls of various ages. You stood with your eldest sister Julia. One would say the fairest out of all of you. Lillian and Kitty laughing loudly beyond themselves. The ever so quiet Mabel stood beside your father, looking down. Anthony quickly pulled his gaze away, feeling himself stare to much at you. Good thing you hadn’t noticed it.
All of you got in motion heading into the church. You mother flashed a smile with her fan at the preacher as it made you roll your eyes from embarrassment. Julia and you took a seat on the right side of the church. Julia’s ever so bright smile faded. You let your knuckle brush down her cheek, whispering encouraging words to her. She turned her head to you with a saddened smile. You knew it was a façade to hide her true emotions. One she hardly showed to anyone, too shy for it. Grabbing her hand you moved it to your lap. Mabel came sitting beside you as the rest of your family took a seat on the row behind you.
Lillian still snickering as your mother had to shush them. Your father looking at the preaching stool, waiting for the mass to begin as he didn’t notice the world around him burning. On the other side the Bridgerton’s took a seat. Anthony sitting himself down with Benedict and Hyacinth beside him. Violet sat a row behind with Colin, Eloise, Gregory and Francesca. The preacher went to his stool as the church went silent. All eyes to the front. He began speaking as his voice echoed from the walls. The roofing so high as it bounced his voice around.
You squeezed Julia’s hand tighter knowing just how heartbroken she was from Lord Bingley leaving her hanging. Leaving London without a word after every moment with him was magical. For the first time your sister had felt so in love with anyone. Lord Bingley being just the sweet character she needed. Yet now he had left leaving Julia heartbroken. Unsure what the sudden reason was for his departure in the midst of the social season.
The words of the preacher barely reached you as you were too deep in thoughts. Trying to think of signals you had missed. Something that would indicate that Lord Bingley did not like your sister. No that was out of the question. His affection was as clear as day. He only looked at her, he had no eyes for another. So what could make him leave. Had someone said anything to him? You kept breaking your head over it, thoughts spinning.
From behind you, you heard Lillian yawn and your mother lecture her about it in hushed voices. It made you take a deep breath, wondering why some of your family members were the way that they are. Julia had her head low as your eyes widened. Slowly turning your head to her. Her shoulders moving in shocks. She was sobbing quietly. You barely saw her cry. You wanted to place your hand on her shoulder as she got up. – “Sorry.” – she said to you, making her way for the back.
Keeping her head down so no one could see her tears. – “Julia.” – you whispered worried. Now that she had gotten up, you had a clearer view of the benches across. Amidst them the Bridgerton’s. All their eyes were turned to the front yet one pair was looking away. Staring right back at you. Anthony Bridgerton’s eyes were focused on you rather than the preacher. Suddenly something snapped inside of you. A connection made. You got up yourself taking a run for it.
It all came together like a tide-wave, crushing you underneath it. You left the church heading outside. Outside you panted loud needing air. A rumble sounded in the sky, making you look up. Lifting the hem of your dress up, you ran. Ran to get away from it all. With no destination in mind you just went. Running down the path that led you away from the church. The church grew smaller behind you as the rumbling in the sky continued. Before you knew you felt droplets on your head.
First a few than more. In a matter of minutes it was raining. The hem of your dress mudded. You reached a bridge that went over a stream as you went over it. Going to unknown places. The rumbling got louder as you were drenched. Mostly out of breath. In the distance you saw a pavilion. You decided to run for it running over the grass fields. Your shoes splashing in the squishy earth. Touching the stone of the pavilion you panted loud. Chest rising and falling out of control to steady your breathing.
Everything was wet. Your dress dripping on the dry stone leaving a pattern of wet. Slowly your breathing steadied when you leaned against the stone wall. Glancing to the side, you got startled by a sudden figure. Anthony Bridgerton standing drenched before you. His gaze fixated on you. If one was tentative of them they would see the yearning behind them. – “Miss Y/n.” – Anthony spoke out of breath. Your first reaction was to look down.
Avoiding those charming eyes of his. – “I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer.” – he continued making you slowly lift your head up to him. – “These past months have been a torment.” – he outed. – “I came to Rosings with the single object of seeing you.” – he went on without giving you a chance to speak. – “I had to see you.” – he breathed out as you kept staring at him.
Perplexed and full of pride. – “I have fought against my better judgement, my family’s expectations all these things I am willing to put them aside and ask you.” – he kept speaking taking no notice of your feelings or desire to say something back. The prejudice inside of you growing at the arrogance of his attitude. Having no concern to you as he so loudly expressed himself without a warning. – “To end my agony.”
Finally you cut through his words. – “I don’t understand.” – to be clear his rambling was getting difficult to understand where he was going. – “I love you.” – he confessed in a matter of seconds. He fell silent as you could only stare at him in shock. – “Most ardently.” – he added upon your silence. He swallowed nervously, shifting his weight on his feet. – “Please do me the honour of accepting my hand.” – he asked, almost beggingly. Your mind was still spinning trying to process the heavy confessions made in a matter of minutes.
“My lord I…” – you began looking briefly down. – “I appreciate the struggle you have been through and I am very sorry to have caused you pain.” – you answered lifting your gaze back up with a slight hint of attitude. It was something you couldn’t hide away. – “Believe me it was unconsciously done.” – you finished with. The sarcastic undertone clear now. Anthony’s gaze had slightly hardened upon you. – “Is this your reply?” – he asked deeply. – “Yes, my lord.” – you responded immediately. – “Are… are you laughing at me?” – he wanted to know taking a step closer to you.
His posture suddenly hostile and defensive. – “No.” – you said loud. – “Are you rejecting me?” – his voice suddenly more agitated. – “I’m sure that the feelings which, as you’ve told me, have hindered your regard will help you in overcoming it.” – you answered bitsy. Not backing down from his sudden change in character. He took a quick breath with a simple nod. – “Might I ask why, with so little endeavour at civility, I am thus repulsed?” – he wanted to know.  – “And I might as well enquire why, with so evident a design of insulting me, you chose to tell me that you liked me against your better judgement!” – you ranted out.
“No believe me…” – Anthony fired back. – “If I was uncivil, then that is some excuse!” – you interrupted him needing it to be your turn to rant to him. – “But I have other reasons! You know I have.” – you exposed to him. – “What reasons?” – Anthony asked visibly confused. You slightly shook your head at the ignorance of him. – “Do you think that anything might tempt me to accept the man who has ruined, perhaps forever, the happiness of a most beloved sister?”
Finally Anthony realized it. He was gawking at you as the realization hit him of his actions. – “Do you deny it, Viscount Bridgerton?” – you asked. Anthony could only stare. – “That you separated a young couple who loved each other, exposing your friend to the centre of the world for caprice and my sister to its derision for disappointed hopes. And involving them both in misery of the acutest kind?” – you ranted needing your anger to be outed. It was all so clear he was the very reason for your sister’s unhappiness. Separating them when they were so clearly in love. How every could you marry such a man.
“I do not deny it.” – Anthony responded clear. His response made you feel disappointed. – “How could you do it?” – feeling yourself get emotional from the heartbreak he has caused your sister. – “Because I believed your sister indifferent to him.” – he explained. – “Indifferent?” – you nearly shouted out in disbelieve. – “I watched them most carefully and realise his attachment was deeper than hers.”  - Anthony answered to further explain his actions.
“That is because she is shy.” – you called out to him. – “Bingley, too, is modest and was persuaded she didn’t feel strongly for him.” – he replied loud. – “Because you suggested it!” – you accused. – “I did it for his own good!” – Anthony called back. – “My sister hardly shows her true feelings to me!” – you shouted at him. Anthony was silent, staring at you. His gaze slowly lowering to your mouth.
You smiled half trying to persuade yourself of the silliness of this conversation. That this was the way for Anthony to act so rashly. Because your sister was shy. It was almost laughable. – “I suppose you suspect his fortune had some bearing…” – you began as you just thought about it. – “No! I wouldn’t do your sister the dishonour!” – Anthony shouted back. – “Though it was suggested.”
“What was?” – you answered up most confused. – “It was made perfectly clear that an advantageous marriage…” – he started to explain as you interrupted him rudely. – “Did my sister gave you that impression?” – your voice shrieking a pitch higher. – “No! no!” – Anthony quickly defended. – “No… there was however, I have to admit the matter of your family.” – he went on. – “Our want of connection?” – you yelled at him furious.
Anthony turned his head away slightly vexed or bothered. – “Mister Bingley didn’t seem to vex himself about that!” – you called out to Anthony getting all worked up and thrown back into the discussion. – “No, It was more than that.” – Anthony replied looking back at you. – “How, my lord?” – you asked crossing your arms. – “It was the lack of propriety!” – Anthony confessed loudly. – “Shown by your mother, your three younger sisters, even, on occasions your father.”
The sky rumbled loud behind you as it had not stopped raining behind you. With shock you looked back at him. You knew your family wasn’t the most perfect, but they were still family. Anthony started to notice the impact of his harsh words about your family. – “Forgive me…” – he said in a softer tone. – “You and your sister I must exclude from this.” – he apologized with a soft bow of his head. The two of you were lost in each other’s gaze for some moments.
With a soft breath you felt yourself be drawn to his body. Wanting surprisingly to be closer to him. – “So how will you mend this?” – you offered, not wanting your dearest sister to remain in her unhappiness. – “Mend this?” – Anthony asked bluntly. – “Yes, your actions led to the unhappiness of my beloved sister. Wouldn’t you wish for a righteous when it involves one of your siblings?” – you suggested bringing his family into the matter.
“Well yes…” – Anthony stuttered out, briefly stunned with the ultimatum. – “Then set it right!” – you ordered taking a step closer to him. Anthony neared as well. – “Perhaps these offenses might have been overlooked had not your pride been hurt by my honesty…” – you told him. – “My pride?” – Anthony called out stunned. – “Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances?” – He replied getting up in your face.
It was intimidating how close he was to you. – “And those are the words of a gentleman.” – you replied angered at how he was looking down on you. – “From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others…” – you went closer to him, forcing yourself closer to his face as it made him back a bit away. Intimidated by you now. – “made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry!” – you called out with fury at him.
The rumbling went quieter in the background. You were panting a bit from having expressed yourself so openly. Anthony tilted his head a bit letting his gaze go from your eyes to your lips. He hesitated bringing himself closer to you. You felt yourself lean more to him as well. Suddenly yearning with desire. He hesitantly pulled back turning his posture away from you.
It made you exhale loud, shoulders slouching as the moment was broken off. Anthony paused letting his finger brush over his lips. He turned back around as it made you look back up to him. Wondering why he had turned back. He stared right at you. Slightly shifting his posture as a hunger set in his eyes. A more demanding approach as he went back to you. Confused you followed the movement of him, allowing your posture to face him fully. He grabbed for your waist and neck, pressing his lips onto yours.
Your eyes went wide as you did not intended this. His lips kissed your forcefully demanding to be satisfied. Slowly your eyes closed, kissing him with passion back. The rain had stopped leaving a dampness over the meadow. Anthony pushed you up against the stone, continuing to kiss you as if his life depended on it. Every inch of him wanted to love you, loved you. You were kissing him back till you suddenly opened your eyes. Pushing him off you and taking a run for it.
This was inappropriate. You had just declared to this man you could never marry him, yet here you were showing him just how much you wanted him. Then there was the matter of your sister. He was the cause for her unhappiness. You couldn’t this to your sister. Anthony watched you leave, with a deep breath. He touched his lips. The very lips that had kissed yours.
Something he couldn’t believe he had done. He had always been so civil, yet now it appeared his yearning for you took the better hand. He knew right now you wouldn’t want him. So he just had to make amends for the sake of your sister and yours. Hoping his act of kindness would bring you back to him. Where he most desperately wants you to be.

Eris x reader
A/n: @thehighladywrites and I were talking about brat tamer!Eris and she gave me this idea; reader overhears someone saying she’s not good enough for eris or they criticize her hard so she becomes insecure and completely changes herself. Eris sees what’s going on and confronts her about it bc she isn’t his usual princess 😭 so please enjoy more Eris and brat!reader 💕
Warnings: angst to fluff, brat reader, slight ddlg
Tumblr media
Today was going to be brutal and boring. Eris had asked you to mingle with court ladies today. He knew it was a big ask but he promised you a big reward. So you let your handmaidens dress you in your finery, pin up your hair, and do your makeup.
You hated what you looked like when you had to be done up for small events like this. It was like you had no control over your life for a few hours. Like you were a party trick for the court to enjoy. But this is the life you chose when you and Eris accepted the bond. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Approaching the room where you’d be entertaining guests you let out huff you roll your neck. You can do this, you tell yourself. When you’re done Eris will be so proud of you and you’ll have all of his attention tonight. Before you grace your guests with your presence you pause to listen to the ladies’ conversation.
Lillian’s voice makes you freeze. You had hoped she wouldn’t be here today, Eris knows she makes you uncomfortable.
Lillian loves sticking her nose into everyone’s business – including yourself and Eris’s – though he does everything in his power to shut her down. She’s never respected your mating bond or relationship with Eris in general. You heard from the other ladies who despised her that Lillian was hoping her mother and father would buy her way to marrying Eris. How pathetic. Part of you almost felt sorry for her, but then she opens her mouth and any sympathy for that female goes out the window.
“How can you all sit here and respect y/n as our High Lady? I don’t think she treats Eris like a male of his stature and title should be treated.” You heard Dela’s voice next, “Lillian, hush. Just because you’re jealous doesn’t mean you have to be crude.” You like Dela, you consider her a friend and she’s someone you’d like to get closer with.
“All I’m saying is that she doesn’t care for him and he takes care of everything for her. It seems like it’s a one way relationship. How can Eris be High Lord when taking care of his precious mate is a full time job?” Lillian says condescendingly. Dela scoffs and you hear her sip on her drink, ignoring the rest of Lillian’s chattering.
You press your back into the cool stone wall, taking deep breaths. You could lose your mind later. Right now you need to keep the raging thoughts of your insecurities being spoken out loud by that wretched female at bay and plaster a smile on your face to do your duties as High Lady. It was going to suck and part of you feels like it’s dying inside but you can get through it.
Taking one last deep breath you hold your head high, push your shoulders back, and lower your mask of elegant High Lady. Entering the room you put a fake smile on your face to greet your guests.
Sitting at dinner with Eris that night you felt sick to your stomach. Like your life was a lie and that you had to stop playing whatever game has been going on with the two of you. You hate to admit it, but Lillian was right. Eris can’t take care of you forever. You’d have to make changes. It would be hard but you could do it for Eris.
You dimmed your side of the bond to make sure you weren’t projecting your emotions down the bond. If Eris noticed he was doing a good job at hiding it.
Good. You wouldn’t want to talk about it anyway.
When it came time for bed you and Eris always got ready together so he could do everything for you. Tonight you had done things yourself. You even wore your own sleep clothes instead of one of Eris’s shirts. Eris really started to worry when you didn’t call him by his nickname when you said goodnight to each other.
Eris was restless, tossing and turning as his mind raced as to why you were acting this way.
In the morning Eris thought it was odd when you got up with him. You got ready and headed straight for your study without having breakfast. Odd, Eris thought. You either sleep in or have breakfast together. He wants to give you your space but his mate and fae instincts were screaming at him to go to you, to comfort you.
You would come to him, right? You were always vocal about any issues you had. Eris kept reminding himself of that throughout the day but the sentiment did nothing to ease his anxiety.
A little after noon Eris threw his pen down on the desk and ran his fingers through his short fiery locks for the thousandth time. He spun his chair to look out the window at the garden where you would usually have lunch. But you weren’t there. His heart started racing out of panic. Were you ill? Or just not in the mood for nature today?
A small knock on his office door snapped him from his thoughts. “Come in.” Eris expected an advisor or messenger, not you. Not that he was unhappy to see you. He smiled at you as you made your way over to him. You returned the smile with a small tight lipped one of your own.
Eris frowned at that, and the lack of eye contact. You kept your gaze down as you set a stack of files on his desk. “What’s this little fox?” He asks cheerfully. “Paperwork I wanted to help you catch up on. Just small stuff like correspondence with other courts, imports and exports, and notices from a few farms.”
You clasped your hands behind your back still avoiding eye contact with your mate. “Thank you.” He breathed out as shock took over his body. Eris was grateful you did this even though you knew you never had to work if you didn’t want to. He never wanted you to feel like you had to lift a finger, always wanting to treat you like the princess you are.
You were scaring him a little.
You turn to leave but Eris was quick to get up and lightly grasp your wrist. “Y/n wait,” you look up at Eris with sad, unsure eyes.
What happened? Why do you look so sad? It was breaking his heart.
“Little fox, what’s wrong?” You bit your lip like you were about to cry. Your dampener on the bond giving out and your emotions poured into him. Eris clutched at his chest with his free hand as he felt every single one of your thoughts.
Closing your eyes you let a few tears escape down your cheeks. Eris scooped you up into his arms to rush you back to your rooms. Forget work and court duties and all the other bullshit. Something was seriously wrong and Eris needed to figure it out now.
Kicking the door shut with his foot Eris hurried over to the bed, setting you down as a sob wracked your body. He tried to let go of you to hold your face. You clutched his shirt tighter to keep him against you. Eris wrapped his arms around you, rubbing a hand up and down your back slowly.
“Come on, take a deep breath. It’s gonna be alright little fox, I’m here.” He whispers. You calm down enough that your grip loosens on him so he can look at you. Eris holds your face in his hands using his thumbs to wipe away your tears on your rosy cheeks. “Please tell me what’s going on little fox, you’re scaring me.” He pleads with you.
Taking a few more deep breaths you launch into the story of what happened yesterday with Lillian, how you thought she was right, how insecure you were at times and how you felt like a burden to Eris by doing the bare minimum. Then you went into how you felt like you needed to change so he would keep you. Because if Eris left you, you would be lost in this world.
“You are and always will be the most precious thing to me little fox.” He said, pulling you back to his chest. “I love you just the way you are. I’m your mate, I’m supposed to take care of you the way you deserve to be taken care of. And you take care of me too y/n. Do not listen to her sweet girl, Lillian has nothing better to do than talk about others who are doing far better than her.”
You laugh a little at that. Slipping out of Eris’s lap you scoot up the bed to sit against the pillows, pulling your knees to your chest. You play with a thread on the duvet, sniffing every once in a while. “So you don’t want me to change?” You ask sheepishly. “Never little fox. Please never change.” You nod, not confident that your voice wouldn’t break.
“Can I still have my reward daddy?” Eris holds your chin between his thumb and forefinger, bringing his lips to yours in a slow kiss. “Of course you can. I’m going to spoil you rotten this weekend. Starting tomorrow it’ll be just me and you, no work.” You could cry all over again at that. “Perfect.” You mumble against his lips as you kiss him again.
Eris reluctantly pulls away from you. “Why don’t you relax for the rest of the day. I’ll have someone bring you lunch since you haven’t eaten yet and we can’t have you going hungry.” You give him a pout accompanied by your doe eyed stare. “Can I just sit with you while you work?” You wrap your arms around his middle, burying your face in his chest. “I feel like I’ve been away from you forever and I need you daddy.”
Eris could never deny you, especially when you just wanted to cling to him. “Of course little fox. You can always stay with me.” He picked you up again to carry you back to his office. Eris vowed that he would always make sure you never questioned your relationship or how loved you are with him. He would do everything to make sure you never shed a tear over something as silly as Lillian’s gossip ever again.

Little Squirrel
Media The Artful Dodger
Character Jack Dawkins
Couple Jack X Reader
Rating Cute AF
Warning for panic attacks + Abuse
Tumblr media
Y/n (me) has a baby (named Lillian) (previous relationship; the father was mentally and physically abusive). Y/n’s baby gets sick (not deadly, just a cold or something) but Jack looks her over and instantly falls in love with Y/n. Y/n likes him too but is scared to get into another relationship. Y/n has panic attacks a lot. Jack helps her and takes care of Lillian as well. Becomes a father figure to Lillian as she grows up. Y/n and Jack fall in love and have another child. POV can be either Y/n or Jack. It can have time skips so that it’s not so long, but I would love to read a lot of Jack helping Y/n with the panic attacks and Y/n during the pregnancy of the second child. There can be parts that are NSFW, but that doesn’t need to be the focus.
"Rock a bye baby on the tree top...When the wind blows the cradle will rock... When the bough breaks the cradle will fall... And down will come baby... cradle and all." I sang as my feet danced gently across the wooden floor, my bare feet gracefully moved across the wood as I held sweet little Lillian in my arms, her head on my chest I kept my hand on her head feeling the heat of her fever. She had been feeling sick the last day or two slowly getting worse, But I just wanted to get her to bed for the night, "Hush-a-by baby on the tree top... When the wind blows the cradle will rock... When the bough breaks the cradle will fall... Down tumbles baby... cradle and all." I sang to her giving her a little kiss before I laid her down in her crib, and tucked the blanket over her and her sweet little teddy bear in her arms, "Sleep well little one," I cooed before I sat on my bed.
I made sure to watch Lillian as I got changed, unable to stop my fear for her.
I left the room and moved to the bathroom standing by the sink to brush my teeth and looking at my pale reflection, my  hair still in the braid I did a week ago, my Y/E/C eyes seemed hollow to it all. As I glanced at my reflection my whole body jumped as for a moment I saw HIM in the mirror stood behind me. I jumped and washed my face knowing in my better judgment that he wasn't there, but as I looked up and met my reflection again he stood beside me his hand grabbed my neck and I screamed, But again. Nothing there.
I gasped my heart racing, my anxiety overwhelming, the sound of the tap running, my own gasping, ringing in my ears and Lillian crying in the bedroom.
I forced my own emotions away and ran to the bedroom to pick her up in my arms and soothe her cries, until finally, she fell back asleep so I returned her to her crib and laid down on my own bed for a few moments just staring into space trying to feel calm.
As much as I didn't like it I knew I didn't have a choice, I walked into the Port Victory Royal Hospital with Lillian on my hip in her little cream dress her  hair in a ponytail. Poor little thing had been coughing all night and her fever had gotten no better, I walked in and up to the small window where a man sat typing on a typewriter. He didn't even look up at me.
"Yes?"
"Hello, I uhh I need to see a doctor for my daughter."
The man looked up at me and glared before he looked back down, "Room three Doctor Dawkins will see you."
I nodded and went to the small room he told me to, I sat on the bed and I gave Lillian the soothe as best I could trying to make sure she felt okay even if she coughed away.
After a while the door opened to a strapping man in brown lace-up shoes, some tight brown trousers, and a white shirt with some very large sleeves so long that his cuffs that should have been tight around his wrists were loose halfway down his hands and soaked with bloodstains, a textured blue waistcoat that didn't fit him correctly as his suspender clips poked out the bottom, a green tie around his pushed up collar even if one side was flattered down, he had a sweet face, freshly shaven, and a head of blonde and brown hair that seemed to bounce as he swaggered confidently into the room.
His brown eyes met me and for a moment he stopped short looking me up and down as his smile grew, he moved his hands behind his back and a wide smile moved across his lips, "Morning,"
"Morning, Doctor Dawkins?"
"The Very same," He nodded, "You are Mrs?"
"Miss actually, just uhh just Y/n is fine."
"Y/n." He smiled, "A very beautiful name and a ravishing young lady, You are welcome to call me Jack,"
"Ohh that's alright-"
"No no, I insist." he smiled as he cleaned his hands, "Now how can I help such a... gorgeous young lady."
I blushed instantly not being used to hearing such compliments even if part of me tried to put up a wall knowing the sort of things that follow compliments. "Oh, Thank you. But not myself doctor this little one," I said bouncing Lillian on my knee,
"Ohh I see, The even prettier littler lady," He smiled, "May I?"
"Just uhh be gentle with her."
"Of course, I'm a doctor I'm always gentle." he winked before he picked Lillian up and cradled her in his arms she quickly saw his face and began to giggle at him, "Awww aren't you a sweetheart, what's your name then little one?"
"Lillian," I answered, "she.. uhh doesn't speak yet."
"Humm unusual for girls her age, still we all go at our own pace." He said, "You have a very charming name Miss Lillian, and a very beautiful big sister." He smiled at me,
"Ohh she's my daughter."
"Daughter? Really? You're far too enchanting to be a mother already." He chuckled sitting on the bed with me as he checked over Lillian, I did put a little space between us but I still wanted to be close to her. "Hang on... Miss? and Lillians your daughter?"
"Yes, doc- Jack."
"Alright, I don't wish to impose but her father is he-"
"six feet. I'd rather not talk about him."
"Okay. I'll do my best not to." He nodded, "How long has she had a fever?"
"A few days now, but the cough only started last night."
"I see, I don't imagine she's sleeping?"
"Not much No," I nodded, "I- I worried it could be whooping cough or tuberculosis, perhaps cholera or typhoid," I explained each word filled me with more panic my heart racing, my mind flooded with fear as I couldn't hold my panic anymore,
"Whoa. whoa. it's alright. It's alright." He cooed as he took my hand, "Shhhh shhh shhh, I'm here. I'm right here. Everything's okay." he said as he soothed me down from the edge of my panic, "It's alright, it's all alright. Lillian will be fine. it's just a cold." He reassured, "I can give her some medicine and she'll be right as rain giggling away in no time."
"Thank you, Jack,"
"You're very welcome, my best advice is to give her the meds before bed and get some sleep yourself." He said his hand resting on my shoulder but I flinched away, "sorry... forgive me I-"
"It's alright, sorry I uhh... I think we best be going,"
"Of course," he nodded handing Lillian back to me, "if you need anything I'm always here alright,"
"Thank you," I nodded,
He got us the medicine and told me how to give it to her and he gave her one more cuddle before we left, "You get better now you hear me, don't want you causing your mummy any more trouble hey you little jumpy  squirrel," he told her which made her giggle, "And keep well yourself Y/n,"
"I will, thank you, Jack." I nodded, "How much do I?"
"You're welcome," He smiled, "No charge don't worry about it Y/n I know things can't be easy for a lady alone so don't worry over it."
"Thank you," I smiled, I left the room trying to hide my joy, such a sweet man but I did my best to force these ideas away.
I sat rather nervously but still, I needed to get it all looked at, as usual, we were sent to the same room and soon enough Jack arrived with a wide smile,
"Awww why hello, if it isn't my two favourite young ladies, she got another cough or some tummy troubles?" He asked as she cleaned his hands and came over,
"No uhh, it's not Lillian today,"
"No? Oh... Everything alright Y/n." He said sitting beside me,
"It's my head, these headaches last for days and they just don't seem to want to pass."
"Ohh you poor thing, alright let me have a look." He said moving to sit behind me on the bed, "May I?"
"You may," I nodded even if I was nervous the mere touch of his fingers was enough to make me jolt,
"It's alright, just me." he reassured me in an almost pillow-talk tone, he stroked his callus fingers across my temple, then through my  hair, and he moved his hands to massage my scalp which admittedly made me lay my head back and almost moan it felt so nice and relaxing, "Ohh christ... you are tense." he muttered, "When you put Lillian to bed how long till you go yourself?"
"Immediately but I'm up a lot with her."
"I see" he said his hands moving down but the moment I felt his hand on my neck my skin boiled, my blood ran cold, my breath became sharp, my heart raced and I moved away as quickly as I could as tears began to flood my face, "whoa. it's alright. I wasn't going to hurt you. I'm sorry... I'm sorry Y/n I should have said something. Forgive me please."
"It's okay... you didn't mean to."
"It's alright, I should have asked first please forgive me."
"It's alright Jack."
"Okay," He nodded as he held my hands and helped me to calm down again, "I think I know what your headaches are,"
"Oh?"
"Tell me even without Lillian waking you do you sleep through the night?"
"No, very rarely,"
"I thought as much, You need to get some rest you're exhausted."
"Well I have -"
"I know you're a very busy lady, but if you stay here you can get a good few hours of sleep."
"Here?"
"Of course, they're not the comfiest but you can get a good sleep here."
"But Lillian."
"I'll take her,"
"Yo-you'd really do that,"
"Of course," He nodded happily taking her and cuddling her in his arms, "You need to rest Y/n, you need some good sleep, I am perfectly happy to look after her till you get some rest."
"You don't have to do that,"
"No but I want to," he smiled, "You get some rest, she'll be perfectly fine and safe with me I promise,"
"Thank you, Jack,"
"You're welcome," He smiled kissing my hand, "sweet dreams Y/n," He said as he got up carrying Lillian on his hip, "Now you my little  squirrel are going to come have fun with me while your mummy gets a little nap. Yeah? that sound nice. a little fun afternoon with Doctor Jack?" He cooed, "Come on then you can be my little mascot," He told her as they headed out,
I laughed but washed my face and hands getting into the bed and doing my best to avoid nightmares as I lay down and tried to get some sleep.
I did get some decent sleep, and when I woke up my headache was all but gone, and as I sat up I saw a sweet sight Jack stood leaning against the table holding Lillian in his arms playing with her, I giggled to see them together.
"Awww Hi Y/n," he cooed,
"Hi, was she okay?"
"She was an angel, absolutely perfect, such a sweet little  squirrel," he cooed, giving Lillian's head some kisses, "she was my little mascot today round the ward everyone said how cute and well-behaved she was, and she was even my little mascot for surgery weren't you?"
"she was?"
"Yeah she came and sat on my hip like I did the amputation she was good as gold, kept the guy really calm actually said he didn't want to yell cause he didn't want to upset her, I think more doctors should start carrying around babies,"
"That... doesn't seem sanitary." I laughed,
"Good point, but we washed her little hands, didn't we? Between every patient we stopped and we washed out little hands," he smiled rubbing his hands in front of her and she quickly moved her hands to his like they were washing them, "Yeah there we go, wash wash little squirrel,"
"Aww that's sweet," I smiled "But babies like putting things in their mouth Jack,"
"Yeah, I noticed that she seems to really like sucking on my scalpel handle,
"she might be hungry,"
"Ahh yes. Good point. I'll feed her if you're still tired."
"Thank you Jack but I'll get her home,"
"Of course, I'm glad you are feeling better. You know I'm more than happy to take her days you need a little rest, maybe even get one of the nurses to look after her and you and I could go out and have some more grown-up fun."
I blushed hard at such an idea, I did want to but my fears were far too intense, "Thank you but uhh I think I should stay with her,"
"Of course forgive me. Have a nice afternoon you two."
"Thank you, you have a nice day too Jack," I smiled,
Once again I was back here and arrived at the hospital to see our usual doctor sitting on the bed as he wondered in,
"Ahhh there's my favourite patient." He smiled as he saw Lillian happily taking her in his arms, "How is my little  squirrel? I have heard you had a little bonk?" he cooed,
"She fell out her crib,"
"Ohh? Well, what do we expect? Little squirrel must have been trying to climb out and go on an adventure." He cooed, "Let's have a little look." He said looking over her, "Let's get you some bruise lotion," He smiled handing her back to me, "And I'm sure a kiss from your mummy will help too,"
"Aww I'm sure it would," I smiled,
"...Do you think... the doctor could get a kiss too?"
I blushed hard but I couldn't help to give his cheek a little kiss,
"Awww! See don't you want that Lillian, it certainly made me feel better." He winked,
"I think she's just upset she doesn't like getting bruises," I said kissing her little head,
"I know I don't either, but she'll be fine once she gets some bruise lotion on it, and as she's been such a frowny little squirrel, how about a caramel?"
"She doesn't like caramel,"
"Aww, me either. Alright, but I'm only doing this becuase you my little squirrel," He told her going into his pocket, "How about a little lemon sherbert Hu?" Immediately she went to reach for it, so he unwrapped it and snapped it smaller giving her the little pieces, "But don't think you're going to get this all the time, these are my privet little sweets."
"That's very sweet of you Jack,"
"Well, she's too sweet to say no. You both are Y/n," he smiled kissing my head,
I stood in the alley doing my best to ground myself my body shaking and Tears streamed down my face, as I cried hysterically, my breath short and shaky, my throat choking and tight with every breath, my mouth dry and sickly, my heart raced to jump in and out my chest, my fingers and toes numb, my head dizzy almost to faint, my every limb shook and sweated, my stomach churned and turned like a hurricane, I couldn't even think, or even begin to know where to start to fix myself.
"Ohh it's my little  squirrel and- Y/n?" Jack approached as he came down the alley himself of course her first spotted Lillian in her pram and then me, "Y/n what's the matter?" He asked as he came over, "It's okay, it's okay, You're not having chest pains are you?"
I shook my head and he held my hands in his, he kept me close to him and walked me through my breaths wiping my tears and keeping me in a grip that made me feel so safe but not smothered, he gave me time and space and made sure everything was alright until my panic attack began to melt away to nothing but memory,
"Are you alright?"
"Yes... Sorry Jack forgive me I-"
"It's alright. You frightened me. I'm just happy you're okay. You get these a lot?"
"I do... a lot of... bad memories sometimes come back."
"What sort ofg bad memroies?"
".. Lillian's father. Forgive me-"
"No, no I'm here if you need me you know that. You and Lillian. You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to." He said wrapping my arms around me to pull me into his chest, for a moment the metallic twang of blood hit my nose mixed with his sweet mahogany scent but I found it somewhat comforting, "I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere, I won't do anything to hurt you, or Lillian. you know that. I wouldn't dream of ever hurting my little  squirrel and her lovely mummy,"
"You mean it?"
"Of course I do," He said kissing my head, "Come on I'll take you both home."
"You don't need-"
"AH. I said I would. Doctors orders I'm taking you both home" He said as he pulled back and took her handle of Lillian's pram, "Hello you, you alright? Happy little squirrel now mummies feeling better? Good come on then Doctor Jack will read you a story," he told her,
I nodded and led him back to my little apartment where I put Lillian down to bed, "Uhh have a seat, I guess," I said sitting on my bed,
"Is this really it?"
"Yep."
"You and Lillian? just in this little room."
"yes, we uhh her father use to live with us but of course he uhh..."
"Y/n... I don't want to push, you don't have to tell me but... where is Y/n's father?"
"...Dead."
"How'd be die?"
"He fell down drunk, down the stairwell and broke his neck."
"Ohh... Y/n, I'm so sorry."
"It's alright,"
"Did he drink a lot?"
"He did."
"Did he... No. Y/n... Did he... hurt you?"
I nodded frozen at the idea I was telling anyone,
"Did he hurt Lillian too?"
I nodded,
"...Is that why she wouldn't talk?"
"I think so. whenever she cried He would slap her. She learnt not to open her mouth. She cries again now but that's all."
"It happens in children, they learnt early on not to talk I'm so sorry Y/n, If I knew I'd-"
"It's alright, over now."
"Is it? or is he still lingering in your mind?"
"he still does I'm sorry Jack I-"
"Hey, Y/n listen to me." he said taking me in his arms, "I swear to you. I would never ever dream of hurting you. Or Lillian, I'm a doctor. All I want is for you both to be happy and healthy. I care about you, both of you."
"I know you do,"
"Will you let me take care of you? both of you?"
"Just care for us?"
"I think you know I want more than just caring for you both." He smiled, "If you'd let me."
"...I'd like to let you,"
He smiled and rubbed his nose against mine as she stoked my cheek, "May I?"
"You may," I nodded,
He smiled and closed the gap letting our lips meet.
I smiled sitting in the little hospital room with Lillian on my lap, as the door opened,
"Awww it's my lovely gorgeous stunning ravishing lady," Jack smiled as he saw me coming to kiss me, "And my little  squirrel too? I'm getting spoilt today." He smiled kissing Lillian's little head as he took her and gave her a bounce, "Not that I don't love to see you but why are you here? you were both alright when I left this morning, this couldn't wait till I get home,"
"No, I was coming into the hospital anyway,"
"Not to see me!" He pouted,
"No to see, someone else."
"Who? What for? you're alright aren't you both?"
"She's fine."
"And you?"
"... I have some news, Jack."
"Wha- what is it?"
"We're gonna have a baby,"
"A- A baby! Y/n, you mean it!"
"I do midwife told me today, we're having a baby,"
He set Lillian on the floor to play and immediately took me in his arms giving me a million kisses, "Ummm I love you. I love you. I love you so so much. You are so beautiful, so perfect, you're gonna grow our sweet little baby!" He smiled
"I love you too," I smiled,
"We're gonna have a baby..."
"we are."
"I couldn't be happier my darling," He smiled before he kissed me and went picking up Lillian, "You're gonna get a little brother, you excited little  squirrel,"
"I'm sure she is." I smiled,
"Now, you are going on a baby-friendly diet, you are going to relax, have nice hot baths, and I will be here to give you as many back rubs as you need." he smiled "No arguments."
"Yes Jack," I giggled,
"Perfect," He smiled, "And I'll look after Lillian so you're not overwhelmed, and even if you get so much as a whiff of a panic attack I will drip everything to take care of you, Y/n. I promise,"
"Thank you, Jack,"
I smiled as I headed to the hospital courtyard where I spotted Jack waiting for us,
"Aww, there's my lovely ladies," He cooed,
"Ahh little one has something to show you," I smiled,
"Oh?"
"Go on then sweetie," I smiled putting her little feet on the grass,
"You're kidding?" He smiled excitedly as he watched her wonder over to him even if she almost fell a few times, but he scooped her up and soaked her with kisses, "Look at you! such a big girl! you're doing so good! My beautiful little squirrel," He cooed, "You are becoming just as beautiful as your mummy," He smiled, "Now you are walking there is nothing my little squirrel can't achieve! she'll be head surgeon by Sunday."
"I think she has a way to go with that yet Jack," I laughed,
"I guess, but look at your mummy isn't she glowing? absolutely ravishing," He smiled giving me a little kiss I smiled and gave him a sweet kiss, "She's beautiful isn't she Lillian?"
"I think she'd agree I am a boat." I laughed stroking my bump,
"Awww you're a very beautiful boat. a boat I shall happily steal and live my life on if I must." He smiled, "How is our littlest one?" He asked stroking my bump,
"Kicking away as usual."
"Alright, come on up to the office I'll give you a back rub, put Squirrel down for a little nap and give littlest one a cuddle and a kiss," He cooed, "Come on let's head upstairs,"
I smiled as I sat in the little bed tired but happy, as I held our little boy in my arms his little eyes were barely even open, Jack beside me playing with little Peter's fingers, Jack had just cleaned off his hands from helping me with the birth. "He's beautiful,"
"He is, he's so perfect."
"Are you okay Y/n?"
"I'm alright Jack," I smiled leaning on his shoulder,
"Good, I was worried for a while there but you did amazing. My strong beautiful wife."
"Thank you, You were strong too I don't imagine it was fun for you."
"Terrifying. Watching my own son come out of my wife. knowing if I do anything wrong I might seriously hurt both of you. Yeah not exactly a fun time for me." he laughs, "but it's all worth it, for this little guy,"
"It truly was," I smiled, "Shall we?"
"Shall we? I think we shall." He cooed giving my lips a kiss and little boy's head a kiss before he got up and went out for a moment so I gave our little boy some kisses until Jack returned with Lillian in his arms he brought her over in her little blue dress sitting her on his lap as he sat on the bed, "Lillian? Sweetie, My sweet little Squirrel, this is your little brother."
"You're little brother, Peter, he's very excited to meet you," I smiled letting her see him a little better,
She came closer looking at him playing with his fingers curiously, "P-peter."
Immediately I got choked up to hear her sweet little voice, the first thing she'd ever said to us,
"yes, that's your little brother little Peter." Jack smiled,
"Peter." she nodded before she gave Jack, I and Peter a little hug, "Love."
"Aww, we love you too Lillian,"
"We love you very much little squirrel, you, and your little brother we both do." Jack told her, "And I love mummy very much too," He smiled at me,
"I love Daddy very much too," I smiled giving Jack a sweet kiss,

Feeder Prince and Servant Girl
--------------------------------------------
Aaron Horthall was renowned—or rather, notorious—for hosting the most extravagant parties and gatherings. Nobles from the entire kingdom would attend, socialize, eat the most delicious foods, indulge in drink, dance, and create a complete revelry in the prince's castle.
But lately, the prince was always left yearning after each gathering. For all the merriment that his parties had, they could never slake one particular appetite of his. All of the women of the court worked hard to maintain their figures and avoid overindulging. Proper etiquette of the land dictated so. None of them had truly appealed to him.
He had almost given up hope until he noticed one of the castle servants during an idle day of boredom. He had always been vaguely aware of her presence around the castle, but today, he saw her. She was beautiful. Her flowing, dark blonde hair was striking, as were her hazel eyes and dimpled smile that nearly made his heart skip a beat when their eyes met. She had curves the likes of which he had never seen on anyone amongst the court. Every ounce of his desire was calling out for her.
"You there," he finally managed to say. "Approach, if you'd please." He made a beckoning gesture with his first two fingers.
Her eyes darted down to the floor, and her hands clasped in front of her as she approached the throne. "Yes, my prince? How might I serve you?" She asked. Her voice was gentle, but not exactly timid. It had a subtle confidence to it.
"What is your name?" Aaron asked, leaning on the arm of his throne. He assumed the most commanding nonchalance that he could without looking ridiculous.
"My name is Lillian, your Highness."
"Lillian. A beautiful name. It suits you," he said with a charming grin. "Tell me, have you ever attended a noble's party, Lillian?"
Lillian waited a moment, seeming to choose her words carefully. "I have not, your Highness. Such occasions are much too prestigious for someone of my station."
Modesty. The prince could recall at least a dozen nobles less worthy than she to attend his parties. "Nonsense, I would have you attend one of mine as my guest. Tomorrow evening, if it would please you."
"You deeply flatter me, my prince, but would that be proper? Others may not take too kindly to a servant girl in their company," Lillian said with a hushed tone.
The prince let out a single chuckle and leaned forward, attempting to look her in the eyes once more as she kept her head down. "If it is viewed as improper for the prince to invite whomever he pleases to his own party, then those that find issue shall be imprisoned immediately."
Lillian giggled, and the prince could swear she was beginning to blush. "It would certainly be a shame if my presence caused such a stir amongst your other attendees. But if you insist-"
"I do," the prince said as he stood and descended the stairs to his throne. His heart was thudding in his chest the closer he got to her. "One of the royal chambers will be prepared as your accommodations until the party, as well as an array of dresses to choose from. Whatever you might need, do not hesitate to make it known, and it shall be attended to. You are, as of now, my personal guest."

Need A Little Love?
Eliza looked at Lena, and Lena felt gooseflesh raise on her arms, her eyes shutting naturally to try and keep out what she knows will be a cold look of regret.
Kara had brought Lena home this summer, it was their first summer Together. As a Couple. Sure, Lena had visited Eliza and the Danvers' family home a few times here and there as friends, but ... there was a difference.
Prodding Lena with a little nudge, Kara could tell she was anxious. Lena blinked weakly--- hating herself at the same time she was doing so. Kindness is weakness, or worse you're complacent.
No.
Lillian's voice seemed to be banished--- as soon as Lena opened her eyes, though the chore seemed to be like the longest of her life, Eliza was giving her the brightest smile and the kindest look.
"I just hope y'all know what you've put me through these years," Eliza states with a warm, Southern welcome though she has a tear in her eye. "I never thought I'd live to see the day my Kara was this happy. Cm'ere, Lena. If that's okay?" She asked at last, half hesitating as she saw Lena freezing up.
For once, Lena acts first. "Of course, yes. I--" she started to say.
"Hush, just let me love you for a second okay? That's all we need sometimes. Just a second of love."
// a lil toast to @wonder-never-wander &, to his Az: thanks for helping me keep this doofus alive. (said with all the love of a proud ukr)

The whole family got together for the twins' 6th birthday! Colleen's house was feeling very small with so many people, but as she gazed around the table she was overcome with a feeling of gratitude - not even Debra's scowl could dampen her spirits. As they were getting ready to serve the cake, Lillian broke the revelry. "What is going on with you two?" The pointed question was meant for Bette and Andrew.
"Lillian!" Norman snapped in a hushed tone. "Stop it. Did you consider that they're not ready to discuss it?" Lillian was properly affronted at her husband's admonishment. She knew he was right, and that made it worse.
"I'm sorry, but seriously. It's like they're a pair of teenagers instead of the almost 30-somethings they are."
"Technically, I'm already a 30-something," Andrew supplied as he looked at Bette. He grasped Bette's hand as she cupped her belly.
"Thank you for doing exactly what I hadn't wanted to do today, Mom. I wasn't going to say anything until after the twins' birthday. It's their day." With that simple statement, pandemonium broke out amongst the family. Colleen and Ken were ecstatic. The twins started hopping up and down. Lillian sat down and tried to collect herself. Norman excused himself for a quieter room, and Heather and Debra disappeared. While Ken sat down to entertain those still at the table, Colleen and Bette went to find the two disappearing acts.
Colleen didn't have to travel very far, Debra hadn't even made it to the family room yet. "Hey. I'm really glad you came today. I miss you." Colleen had spoken to her sister's back, but she was glad when Debra accepted her hug.
Meanwhile, Bette found Heather in the kitchen. "Hey kiddo, you ok?" Heather threw her a sulky frown.
"No. Why did you have to get pregnant? You're not going to have any time for me now." Bette instantly understood. She knelt down and gave Heather a big hug.
"You're always going to be my girl. You and I have something special and it's not something that my kid is going to get. My kid is going to get annoyed at me the same as you do your mom, but an aunt is better than a mom." Bette winked at Heather as she lifted her up and swung her around the kitchen. "My kid is not gonna know how awesome her mom is because I'm just gonna be their mom and mom's can be soooo aggravating. I know... I have experience with them."

Weekend With the Grays - Day 3: The Gazebo Cocktail Party
Thanks once again to @endlessly-cursed for organising this and for Prim! Thank you also to @camillejeaneshphm for Helen, Noah and Lillian, @catohphm for Danny, and @mjs-oc-corner for Bella!
Tumblr media
"Oh, Atticus, get under here with us." Fred insisted, his arm around Helen's as they walked the Gazebo with the others. Atticus turned around to face him, still looking despondent, and shook his head.
"I am fine, thank you." he said, shivering a little. "I've got my...oh." He reached up for the hat he had worn upon arriving. It wasn't on his head, and the snow was nestling itself within his hair, giving him an admittedly quite humorous-looking salt-and-pepper hairstyle.
"You never were one for hats, Doherty." Helen chuckled, her arm raised slightly as she kept the snow off of her and her husband, "You must have gone out without it on instinct."
Atticus scowled, but relented, walking over next to Fred, and wiping the snow off of his hair with his hands. Fred happened to look over as he did so, and saw strange black splotches moving along them. "Doing more shadow magic, I take it?"
Atticus looked over at Fred, then at his hand, wiling the dark splotches to fade away. "We are all at liberty to use our powers how we like. I can experiment with mine, Helen can command the weather to be however she likes, and you can patent and sell yours to the masses."
Fred shifted uncomfortably, but Helen cut in before he could respond. "You disapprove of how we've made our fortune?"
"No. I disapprove of the fact that there aren't more controls on it. I'm glad that you've decided to have it be Ministry controlled, but I do wonder if they'll give it the attention it deserves-"
"Alright, alright, let's not get into politics." Fred said, raising his arms above his head to hush both Atticus and Helen. "We can talk about this later. The last thing we want to do is start a debate around the Ministry...at least, right now." He suggested, gesturing to the Gazebo whose steps they now climbed.
"No, I suppose that would be a disaster." Atticus said, smirking. "Thank you for letting me enjoy the use of your ancient magic, Helen." he said, moving forward and into the Gazebo to greet the others.
Fred and Helen did the same, before walking to the side and looking out over the snowy estate. "He seems a lot better now. I guess actually doing some dancing was good for him. He seemed to enjoy dancing with you, too."
"Well, I can't take all the credit." Helen said, smirking. "Prim helped as well. I overheard them talking about that plant he gave her, remember? Back when everyone kept spreading rumours about them being a thing?"
Fred nodded, leaning on the wood of the Gazebo. "That certainly was a wild time. Seemed like everyone had rumours flying around about them."
"Considering half of us had ancient magical powers, and some of us flew to France and back one night, it's not surprising our love lives were scrutinised." Helena observed, "It's why I love how you can stop time...give us a place nobody can see us. Atticus and Prim could have used that back then." She gestured over to them, as they talked to Danny Gibson and his partner Bella, who had just entered the Gazebo, Atticus looking far less standoffish than he had a few hours ago.
"Yeah...especially that time I saw them kiss." Fred said, in a lowered tone.
Helen looked down at him, incredulously. "You're kidding." she said, bluntly.
"It was just one time, don't get any ideas-" Fred began, going as red as his hair, "Apparently they'd just decided to wrap up...whatever it was they had going on, and decided to so like that...and with a plant, I guess."
Helen's smile softened. "You know...he asked me and Lillian to help him with that. He wanted to get the floriography right, and we were the ones he trusted for it. I remember it well: Zinnia, symbolising respect and honour. Sometimes I wonder if maybe we should've messed with him and sent a different message."
Fred gasped jokingly. "How awful! I can't believe you'd consider something like that!" he said, laughing.
"I suggested Yellow Hyacinths and Lavender, meaning jealousy and humility. Lillian shut that idea down quickly, though. She said nobody deserved to have Primrose Gray angry at them for no good reason."
Fred nodded, making eye contact with Atticus briefly. He smiled. Atticus smiled back, before returning to the conversation with Danny and Prim, something about how dark and creepy Ravenclaw Tower used to get late at night. "Probably for the best, then."
Helen nodded, bringing a hand up to wipe her eye. "Yeah, probably." She turned around, letting Atticus enjoy the party unwatched, as they both looked out at the falling snow, which landed on the many dormant plants on the estate, including a large bush of Zinnia flowers.

how about more 'Gideon thinking Alex and hotch are related' content??
I am OBSESSED with this. and I think it’s so funny when Hotch calls her Alexandra. for some reason it reminds me of Rugrats when the twins call each other Phillip and Lillian when they’re mad.
also for such a brilliant man, Jason Gideon is absolutely fucking clueless.
----------
The stairs creaked as Gideon climbed his way to the seventh floor- although, on second thought, maybe it was his knees. Every so often he was reminded about the inevitable March of time, especially when he was surrounded by hordes of youthful teenagers.
He couldn’t recall ever being that young. Certainly not as young as these children. When he was fifteen, sixteen, seventeen years old he fancied himself an adult already, uninterested in childish hobbies and pursuits. There was no possible way he was ever like the ragtag collection of youths currently under his care, with their wide eyed optimism and cherubic cheeks and their loud, rapid fire conversations full of slang he didn’t understand.
The seventh floor hummed with silent activity even though it was well past the start of quiet hours. Lights shone under multiple doors, and he could hear half muted televisions and hushed conversations.
He stopped at the resident advisor’s door and knocked lightly. It took a moment before it opened.
“Hey, this is a bad time, can you-“ Aaron Hotchner started to say. He stopped, his eyes going wide. “Oh. Mr. Gideon. I…can I help you? Is something wrong?”
“Sorry to disturb you so late,” Gideon said. “I just got a call that a girl from Roosevelt was missing from room checks and that there was a chance she was here.”
He had caught students engaging in…inappropriate behavior a handful of times during his tenure as head of Lincoln House. If Aaron had snuck a girlfriend over, it certainly didn’t look like it. He was dressed in flannel pajama pants and an unzipped hoodie over a well-worn tee shirt; from what Gideon could see from the hall his room was an uncharacteristic mess. And besides, Aaron was one of his most mature and responsible students.
“Uh…” Aaron said. “Well…”
“Aaron, can you grab one of your clean shirts?” a girl’s voice called from inside the suite.
Gideon arched an eyebrow. All the color drained from Aaron’s face. “I can explain,” he said hastily.
The girl came into view, but like Aaron she certainly was not dressed for some kind of rendezvous. Her sports bra and leggings were, admittedly, not dress code appropriate, but her long red hair was a tangled mess and her makeup was smeared like she had been rubbing her eyes repeatedly. “Hey, uh…Alex?” Aaron said, still staring at Gideon in horror.
“He threw up again, and I don’t have any clean pajamas to put on him,” Alex sighed, rubbing her eye with the heel of her palm.
“Alex.”
“At least this time he didn’t also throw up on me in the process.”
“Alexandra,” Aaron hissed.
She dropped her hand. “What?” she said. She stared at Gideon in horror and immediately tried to cover up her sports bra. “Oh. Oh, god. We can explain.”
“Who’s throwing up?” he asked mildly. “They should probably go see the school nurse. Although, if this is hangover-induced, there are probably other steps that should be taken.”
A little boy peeked out of the bathroom; he was small and skinny and clearly not a high school aged child. It took Gideon a bit too long to remember that a ten year old lived in the dorm. “Birdy,” he said as he leaned heavily on the doorframe. “Birdy, I don’t feel good.”
He definitely didn’t look good, he was deathly pale and his big hazel eyes were watering. “I know, darling, I’ll be there in just a second, go lie down,” Alex said.
“Spencer’s not hungover, and he doesn’t need the nurse, he’s got the stomach bug that’s been going around,” Aaron said. “Mr. Gideon, really, we can explain-“
It all clicked. “Your sister,” Gideon said, snapping his fingers. “That’s right. She’s your sister.”
“Yes,” Aaron said immediately. “My sister. My sister, Alex.”
“Twins, right?”
“Yes,” Alex said. “Irish…Irish twins. We’re Irish twins.”
“Exactly nine months apart,” Aaron said.
“Which explains why…we’re in different grades.”
Of course, now it all made sense. He couldn’t believe he’d forgotten. Now he could see the resemblance- the same dark almond shaped eyes, the same high cheekbones with the hint of a dimple at the left corners of their mouths, the same sharp stubborn jawline. The girl was considerably smaller, but even their stances and facial expressions were similar.
“The little boy,” Gideon said. “The one vomiting. He’s-“
“Our baby brother,” Aaron blurted out.
“Spencer is so scared of doctors, and when he’s sick he wants us to take care of him,” Alex said. “He’s only ten years old, he’s so young. And he gets sick a lot.”
Gideon looked the twins up and down, weighing the situation carefully. On one hand, it was strictly against school rules for a girl to be in a boy’s room after hours. Even more so if she was in the wrong dorm after bed checks. On the other hand-
He heard Spencer throw up violently in the bathroom, then a tense moment of silence before he burst into thin wailing tears. The twins winced in unison. Alex looked desperately towards the bathroom.
“Go, go, he needs you,” Gideon said, waving his hand. “I’ll let Strauss know you haven’t run away or anything.”
“Oh god,” Alex mumbled.
Aaron wavered on his feet. The color still hadn’t returned to his face, and it probably wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he was coming down with the same stomach bug. “Is it okay if she stays?” he asked. “We…the baby really needs her.”
“Just keep me updated if he needs to go to the infirmary,” Gideon said. “Carry on.”
Alex immediately ran; he could hear her cooing over their sick little brother as Aaron closed the door. Gideon shook his head. Siblings. He should have remembered.

The Destruction of Abilene
OC Introductions :)
this WIP (which will be labeled TDOA for brevity) takes place in central/northern Texas in the 1910s. it has a relatively small cast compared to some of my other works. i love an ensemble cast. but without further ado... here they are :)
(wait no, there's an ado. since i am incapable of drawing, each character will come with an actor i've "assigned" to them for now until they get some "official" character art sometime in the future)
okay NOW without further ado :)
Tumblr media
Hank Harrison
the main character of this whole shebang. he really embodies the classic "cold cowboy" character, at least before he begins his development. he would be happy to spend the rest of his life in solitude if it weren't for his sister Clara who's really the only person he cares about. that is, until Jesse comes along (but we'll get to him later). he feels a massive responsibility for the safety of this child which reveals a soft spot within hi, that no one would've thought existed until now. Hank spends the entirety of this story - and his life - haunted by the death of his little brother which he feels responsible for. he carries a lot of trauma from his youth with him but Jesse helps break down his walls and realize that he can move on from the tragedies of his past and soothe his guilty conscience

Tumblr media
Jesse Sinclair
every grumpy adult man character needs a sweet summer child to tag along! so here he is! but there's something different about this one... ah yes, he's weird. Jesse is simply a strange, unsocialized little boy who's found abandoned by his mother in the aftermath of a huge storm. he's quiet and shy at first but quickly perks up during the journey. he develops an attachment to Hank and begins to see him as a stand-in parental figure. despite this however, he desperately wants to be brought back to his mother. he desires her love more than anything even though she abandoned him. he gets angry if anyone mentions that she wronged him. his sense of morality is strangely concrete for a boy his age. he speaks a lot about the will of God and divine punishment... i told you he was weird
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Clara Wilson
the younger and considerably more well-adjusted sister of Hank. she's proof that one person can be both a lover and a fighter. she lives with her husband and her mother-in-law who are much wealthier than she ever was in her youth. transitioning from being a farm girl to a wealthy woman was a bumpy ride but she handled it with grace and keeps true to her roots. she tries to keep Hank grounded and help him move on from his trauma while also keeping her own mental well-being in check. after all, they both lost their little brother. she's always ready to jump into the action whenever help is needed

David Wilson
Clara's husband! you know that trope of Incredible Girlboss and Man Who Loves Her So Much? yeah this is it right here. he worships Clara. so much so that he puts up with her brother who sort of treats him like garbage. he's well-intentioned to a fault and naive when it comes to the harsh realities of life. but he'll do anything to protect Clara, knowing full well that she can absolutely protect herself. overall, he's just a sweetheart who just wants everyone to get along and live happily ever after

Lillian Sinclair
you recognize that surname? no you don't. hush. anyway... Lillian is a young woman who believes that demons are hunting her and punishing her for some reason. she's tortured by her own guilty conscience and believes that God is sending the demons as a sort of divine punishment. all she wants is to be able to live in peace but she doesn't believe that to be possible. deep down, she feels responsible for the death of her husband almost nine years previously. but she has found love again with May and is soothed by her presence alone
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(photo cred: Sophie Wilde in Tom Jones)
Tumblr media
May Carson
the lover of Lillian. a bit rough around the edges with slightly coarse manners but she immediately softens around Lillian. she'll do anything to protect the woman she loves, even if it means doing something unthinkable (what could that be, i wonder? who knows? i don't know... stop looking at me). she was a childhood friend of both Clara and Hank before their lives took a turn for the worse. she's done everything in her power to build a quiet life for herself and for Lillian but when demons come around, she watches everything she's built start to crumble. which, if you couldn't guess, is not something she's going to take lying down

whew, that was a lot. thank you for sticking around until the end! if anyone wants to know anything else about any of these guys, feel free to ask either in the comments or just shoot me a message. i'm happy to ramble about this project for as long as anyone will listen. again, once things get rolling a bit more there will (hopefully) be some character art and i will be able to replace these pictures with more accurate versions!
(side note: if you are/know of someone who i could potentially commission for some art please drop their username in the comments :))

Baby Sister, Joe Mazzello
Can I request a fluffy Joe Mazzello x fem. reader where reader has given birth to their second daughter and Joe’s mom brings their daughter to the hospital and Joe and reader introduce their daughter to her new baby sister?
Tumblr media
Word Count: 840~
The bright and early sun was what woke me up this morning, my eyes quickly adjusting to the light as it fell over Joe’s sleeping form in the hospital recliner. Soon after I woke up, a nurse entered our room with our newest addition to the family, Amelia, keeping quiet as she tried not to stir the sleeping baby in front of her, plus the grown man asleep in the corner. It was around feeding time, so she was probably hungry. Thankfully, she latched on without any issues, and soon after she began feeding, she fell back asleep once more.
Holding our brand new baby in my arms was exciting for me. It had been a few years since I gave birth to Lillian, so being able to hold someone so little was new to me again. As I held her, watching her little eyes twitch every so often, I found myself reminiscing on all the times Joe and I learned something as brand new parents. All of the moments I found myself surprised as I watched Joe never grow mad or agitated once with me or our baby. I had spent so many years of my childhood with my parents doing exactly that, and I hoped I would never be in a relationship like that. Instead, I met Joe, and instantly I knew he was different from the rest.
“Good morning, beautiful,” I hear a groggy voice beside me say, bringing me out of my thoughts. Turning my head toward Joe, I smile at his tired face just as he gets out of the chair and comes over to me and Amelia. Sitting on the edge of my hospital bed, Joe watches as Amelia sleeps against my chest, wrapped in a pink blanket and her tiny fist resting against my skin. His face only grows with happiness before he leans forward and gives me a gentle kiss. “To have pushed out a little human and still look as great as you, man,” Joe zones off, giving me an almost dopey smile. “I’m so lucky you love me.”
Before our sweet moment can continue, a gentle knock sounds against our hospital door, causing Joe to call out, “Come in.” Once the door opens, our three-year-old comes bounding into the room, face full of smiles and utter excitement. Behind her stands Joe’s mom, an almost tired look taking over her face as she watches her granddaughter run to my bed. However, Joe quickly catches our little girl in his arms before she can reach us, and instead, he carefully leans her down so she can get a better look at her new baby sister.
“Wow,” she draws out, her hazel eyes wide as can be. I thought maybe with Amelia, there would be a chance for one of the girls to have my eyes since Lillian’s were a complete match to Joe’s, but no. As soon as I saw Amelia open her eyes for the first time, I knew they were an exact match to Joe’s once again.
“She’s so pretty, mommy,” Lillian says in complete awe, completely entranced by her little sister. “You did a good job, mommy,” she further tells me, nodding enthusiastically. Her words make me laugh, all while Joe nods his head with her.
“She did, didn’t she?” He agrees with her, gently holding her a bit closer so she can get a better look. “You and your sister get all your looks from mommy, not daddy.”
“Oh hush,” I tell him, flashing him a grin as I shake my head. “Both the girls have your eyes, and there’s no denying that nose,” at my words, Joe looks between the girls as the smile on his face softens, seeing that my words are true. I don’t know how he hasn’t noticed that before.
“They’re simply beautiful,” Joe's mom speaks up, walking closer so she can see her brand new granddaughter. Her eyes glaze over with tears at the sight, looking between me and Joe before placing a hand on his shoulder. “You guys make such perfect babies,” she tells us, making my eyes glaze over with tears as well.
Leaning Lillian down to sit next to me on the hospital bed, Joe reminds her to be gentle, but she doesn’t need to be reminded. She won’t even move as soon her knees hit the mattress, and instead, she settles for gazing at her sister in awe once more. “Remember this moment,” I tell her, leaning down to kiss the wavy hair adorning her head. “Because when you two get older, you might not like each other.”
“I could never, mommy,” she promises, a smile remaining on her face.
“We’ll see when you’re teenagers,” Joe murmurs, giving me a smirk. Looking between him and the two girls, I can’t help but feel so content and happy with my situation. I’m so happy to have the love that I have from my family, and I love that the man I get to call mine loves me deeply too.

Hushed Up by Elizabeth Spann Craig
Tumblr media
Elizabeth Spann Craig’s Hushed Up is a fun, well-written, and entertaining cosy mystery starring everyone’s favourite senior sleuth. The excellent and memorable characters are as funny as always while the mystery is interesting. This is the fifteenth book in this series but it works well as a standalone.
Florist Lillian Johnson is no blushing rose. She is a dour perfectionist who often butted heads with many people, including her own daughter. Retired schoolteacher turned investigative reporter Myrtle Clover isn’t particularly pleased with her either because Lillian ignored psychic Wanda’s warning that she was in danger. Predictably, Lillian is soon found murdered by Myrtle’s sidekick Miles. Myrtle and Miles must dig into this case to uncover the truth before anyone else in Bradley gets hushed up!
This is another solidly entertaining book in the series! The mystery is well-paced with interesting and viable suspects. Could the culprit be the victim’s favourite but flighty and spendthrift son Martin? Or could it be the victim’s estranged daughter Annie? Or could the murderer be the victim’s neighbour Tallulah with whom she often argued? The mystery features some good red herrings and interesting twists. I was sad that I figured out the identity of the killer very early on because of something incriminating that they said. However, their motives do make sense and fit the plot well. But, I wish the mystery was more intriguing with some more suspense. I do love the big reveal which is hilariously pitch perfect and nicely wraps up the book.
This book is filled with the consistently entertaining and familiar scenes of senior small-town life. I always love how Craig takes everyday situations and makes them into such hilarious scenes! There are the usual fun scenes of Myrtle bossing around longsuffering germaphobic sidekick Miles, trying to wrangle her unruly house help, remaining one step ahead of her police chief son Red, and, of course, inflicting her awful cooking on the victim’s loved ones. However, in this book, things are a little different as poor Lieutenant Perkins also falls victim to Myrtle’s cooking. I was howling at Myrtle’s disastrous breakfast party! I love Myrtle’s sleuthing which works so well simply because she knows everyone in town and her reputation definitely precedes her. However, I think that she was a little too outlandish in this book–especially when she blatantly crashed a police interview with a possible suspect.
🥀🥀🥀🥀 out of 5 dying roses!

Tumblr media
THE CANDLES SEEM TO ALL flicker at once as she leaves the stage, a hush landing over the crowd — the cheers CEASING for a moment before a rush of murmurs follows. her hands are shaking, the bard's heart stuck heavily in her throat. they weren't here. they weren't... and yet she'd seen them. their presence is overwhelming, the family she'd left behind... ghosts of the past...
her touch is GENTLE, the smile on her face not going anywhere NEAR her eyes. lillian is desperate. ❝ can we get out of here? ❞
