Seneca White Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)

Conservation Status- Least Concern

Habitat- Seneca County in New York

Size (Weight/Length)- 65 kg; 2 m

Diet- Leaves; Grasses; Fruits; Nuts; Lichens

Cool Facts- The Seneca white deer are almost identical to normal white-tailed deer except the majority of the population is leucistic. In 1941, the Seneca Army Depot was constructed to contain 43 square kilometers of fenced-in, New York wilderness. A small population of deer were isolated within the fencing, a few sporting white fur. As the deer bred throughout the decades, more and more became leucistic. While the army originally hunted the deer for food, it was banned in the 1950’s to shoot a white deer. Of the 700 deer contained in the area, over 300 of them are pure white. As the property was bought for farming and businesses, business owners worked to open the Deer Haven Park as a sanctuary for these very special animals.

Rating- 13/10 (One of the few cases of natural selective breeding.)

Chapeau Louis XVI en feutre Suède, garni par une bande de soie plissée relevée droite et par deux plumes d'autruche droites sur le derrière.

(3) Walking ensemble, in plain Suede wool. Louis XVI bodice-jacket, round in front and with small basques at the back where they are held in place by two buttons; front, Swiss belt in blue satin; on the shoulders, straps held by buttons, surrounding an embroidered blue satin cuffed cape, high collar, empire sleeves. Godet skirt, very flared at the bottom, trimmed in front with two strips of braid held at the top with buttons. Louis XVI hat in Sweden felt, trimmed with a band of pleated silk raised straight and with two straight ostrich feathers on the back.

Métrage: 10 mètres lainage grande largeur.

(4) Toilette de lainage gris souris. — Corsage à revers, orné de petits boutons, ouvrant jusqu'à la ceinture sur un plastron bleu brodé de soutache, col montant, basques à godets en velours. Manches gigot à crevés de velours, avec hauts poignets ornés de petits boutons. Jupe à godets, avec petits boutons dans le bas. Chapeau rond en velours plissé, orné d'un côté par un groupe de coques semblables, de l'autre par deux plumes d'autruche.

(4) Mouse gray woolen ensemble. — Lapel bodice, decorated with small buttons, opening up to the belt on a blue bib embroidered with soutache, high collar, velvet basques with godets. Velvet leg-of-mutton sleeves, with high cuffs decorated with small buttons. Godet skirt, with small buttons at the bottom. Round hat in pleated velvet, decorated on one side with a group of similar shells, on the other with two ostrich feathers.

Métrage: 10 mètres lainage grande largeur.

(5) Robe d'intèrieur en flanelle blanche, — Corsage-blouse à longues basques; dessus, col carré en broderie entouré par un grand volant de dentelle, séparé derrière; col montant, bretelles de ruban brodé devant, et bande semblable au milieu dans le dos. Manches ballon, relevées par un nœud. Jupe à godets.

(5) Indoor dress in white flannel, — Blouse-bodice with long basques; above, square embroidery collar surrounded by a large lace ruffle, separated behind; stand-up collar, embroidered ribbon straps in front, and similar band in the middle of the back. Balloon sleeves, raised with a knot. Godet skirt.

Métrage: 12 mètres flanelle.

(6) Toilette d'intèrieur, en lainage vert grenouille, corsage à petite pinte ouvert sur une chemisette en mousseline de soie rose, col montant, grand col à pointes en passementerie, faisant pointe derrière jusqu'à la ceinture, jockeys semblables sur manches ballon courtes. Jupe à godets, très plissée derrière.

(6) Indoor dress, in frog green wool, small pint bodice open over a pink silk chiffon shirt, high collar, large pointed collar in trimmings, pointing behind to the waist, similar jockeys on sleeves short balloon. Godet skirt, very pleated behind.

CW - Someone's shirt is set on fire but they arent hurt at all.

Regulus was enjoying the warm spring day between classes. He, Barty, and Evan were all loitering out in the courtyard. They only had about a quarter of an hour before Charms. Barty had been determined to get outside before they were trapped inside for the rest of the afternoon. So Regulus had indulged him. 

Barty was causing chaos, of course, quietly egged on by Evan. Regulus watched the tiny floating paper birds drift close to groups of other students before igniting with a sharp crack. Oddly, no one seemed to realise where they were coming from. 

Regulus had just lit a cigarette when the door slammed open, bouncing off the stone walls. He hid his hand behind his back in a flash. In case it was a professor or Filch. But no, it was his brother and his gang of loud idiots. Regulus groaned, knowing that all peace was now lost. He put his cigarette to his lips again, refusing to waste it because of them. 

His brother’s voice soon filled the small space. Regulus looked over at him. Sirius was standing on the side of the fountain, holding onto one of the uprights and waving about dramatically. Sirius had always loved the sound of his own voice. Potter was whooping and carrying on, adding fuel to Sirius’s fire. Pettigrew isn’t much better, clapping and squeakily laughing. The only one not being entirely annoying was Remus. Who, while watching Sirius intently, was only smiling and not making any noise. Regulus thought he would probably get on quite well with Remus Lupin if he wasn’t one of his brother’s friends.

Barty nudged Regulus in the side, nearly displacing his cigarette. Regulus scowled at him until he looked where Barty was pointing. One of his little paper birds was floating towards Sirius. Regulus felt the corners of his lips twitching in anticipation. 

It was nearly on him when Potter shifted sideways a step. The bird landed perfectly in the centre of his back. Crack. James’s shirt sets alight. The crack makes him jump, but he didn’t realise he was on fire until Sirius screams at him. 

Regulus knew the fire wouldn’t actually hurt him. Barty embraced chaos. But he wasn’t mad enough to hurt someone on school property. 

“It’s heatless flames,” He’d told Regulus the first time he’d shown him the spell. “Don’t want to risk getting expelled and having to go home to my father.”

James ripped his shirt off. Though at this point, there wasn’t much of it left. He threw it on the floor and stomped on it to put the flames out. James turned around trying to see who had hit him in the back. 

That’s when Regulus looked fully at James. It was like a switch had been flicked. One second he was just another of his brother’s annoying friends, and then Regulus’s stomach flipped. He had the sudden urge to lick James’s abs, which he’d never had before. 

The realisation hit him like a brick.

Mrs. Hudson decides to go upstairs to check on the boys.

January 4

My mood was a bit better this morning. Emptying my heart, even to an animal, lifted the spirits a bit. Besides, I remembered how excited Sherlock had sounded when he beckoned John to hurry yesterday. Could it be the beginning of them finding their way back to what they once were to each other? I decided to go upstairs to observe for myself later in the day. 

“Ah, Hudders! You bring gifts, I see,” Sherlock greets me when I enter 221B for the first time this year. 

“Aren’t you clever! Ever considered being a detective?” I ask teasingly. 

There’s something about his stance that makes my heart flutter. He seems relaxed, and happy, his smile is the genuine one he reserves for me and John. Was yesterday a turning point after all? When John greets me equally joyous, my own smile brightens, and a warmth sets in my chest. 

“Is that jammy dodgers, I see?” John asks with beaming eyes. 

I roll my eyes at him, and he chuckles, and is soon joined by Sherlock’s deep rumble. If I died right now, it would be a happy death. 

“Join us and I’ll put the kettle on,” Sherlock says and walks to the kitchen before I can reply. 

I send John a questioning look. Since when did Sherlock make the tea when John’s around? I admit that I pinched my inner arm discretely to ensure I wasn’t dreaming.

As I write this, my hands are shaking slightly. From joy, I might add. The hours I spent with the boys today, mended my broken heart and made my soul quite hopeful for the year lying before us. Apparently, the boys have started to move towards each other, which became quite evident with how they spoke to the other, and on a few occasions even touching the other’s shoulder or hand. I made sure to pinch myself numerous times and I’m happy to report that my arm and thigh are bruised by my own onslaught. If this day had all been a dream, it would’ve broken me, that’s for sure. 

Tim sensed the shift in my mood, I think, because he’s started behaving quite mischievous as cats have a tendency of doing…
