his hand is so comforting and warm and safe

his hugs melt all of your worries and always ground you

his kisses are so angelic-- his lips are so gentle and soft and you can always taste his lap balm <3

he’s always staring at you with heart-shaped eyes and a goofy grin

he's so lovesick that it grosses everyone out (peter kavinsky specifically)

he takes you on the sweetest dates ever :((

your first date was a picnic on a lazy sunday

john showed up bright and early to your doorstep, presenting you with a bouquet of flowers and wearing the biggest smile you’ve ever seen

he then took you to this serene lake hidden deep in the woods-- it took a bit of walking to get there-- but it was so worth it.

the calm water reflected hundreds of the sun’s diamonds on its surface; the cicadas chirped alongside the songbirds in the background

john set up the picnic right next to the lake and you guys spent the entire day chatting, eating (the food that he handmade and poured so much love into <3), and gazing into each other’s eyes like the adorable lovers you are

but the date didn’t end there-- you guys were still there long after dark, watching the sunset together, and moongazing for a majority of the night <3

once you started to get sleepy at around 2am, john cleaned up the date and took you back home

both of you were tired the next day at school but it was so worth it <3 (you both spent the lunch period leaning on each other’s shoulders and trying to catch up on sleep)

this was a little something that came to me today because i don't see enough fics for my favorite boy >:(

His appearances in the show are minimal, but John Turturro is such a fun actor and both him and Tony Shalhoub have great chemistry together!

I ADORE AMBROSE. OMF. i can't believe i haven't mentioned him before?? thank you for bringing it to my attention dear :3. honestly, i would have so very much preferred the episode about Monk's father to be another Ambrose episode instead. :< i wish he got way more screen time and not just measly two (or was it three?) episodes!

BEING PETER KAVINSKY’S YOUNGER SISTER AND HAVING A CRUSH ON JOHN AMBROSE MCCLAREN WOULD HAVE TO GO A LITTLE SOMETHING LIKE THIS...

so you’re one year younger than peter

which means peter has all the rights to saying “i’m older than you, so i decide” without having to do any work for you because you're too small (like doing the dishes because you can’t or something)

which, of course, means the two of you have always argued with each other in regular sibling fashion, but makeup quickly because your rooms are literally right next to each other.

but, this also means that you are close enough in age to where his friends are basically your friends while growing up

you first met john ambrose because peter had brought him over to hang out after school

and you remember thinking he was nice, if not a little nerdy

and soon, you guys started to hang out a lot

especially after gen and peter got together

and you guys became really close, and even after he and peter sort of grew apart, the two of you stayed friends

you could vent to john ambrose about your brother and he could agree, but also point out that he was still your brother and cared a lot about you

and that was one thing you always liked about john ambrose

he was quiet and levelheaded and thought things through

and he was smart

and he was funny

and he was sweet

and he was cute

and he liked you for you

and that was always a thing, wasn’t it? people seemed to like you for who your brother was. but not john ambrose. not him.

and peter watches your feelings towards john ambrose shift and you know it fills him with absolute glee conflicting with an over-protective nature

which makes for an awkward limbo where he will tease you about your “lil’ crush on johnny boy” but will then posture to or try to be better than john ambrose

this, of course, is fodder for a lot of arguments between the two of you

“why can’t you just grow up and leave us alone, peter? he doesn’t like me like that!”

“but you like him that way!”

“no i don’t!”

“really, (y/n)?”

you can never win these arguments. because even if you deny it, both of you know that you have an undeniably  h u g e  crush on john ambrose mcclaren

but then he moves and everyone moves on like he was never really there

but not you

you write to him - emails, mostly, but you also managed to find him on social media and send him memes

and you know that this makes peter even more insufferable

“stop sexting john and come down here! i need help making dinner!”

“SHUT UP, PETER!”

and all this time, you never say a word of your feelings

how pathetic would it make you?

“i know we haven’t seen each other in years, but i’ve always had a crush on you, and i’m waiting for you if you ever decide to come back”

peter would make so much fun of you if he ever found out

and what makes it worse is when sends you an email that lara jean sent him a letter in the mail? and it said how she loved him in middle school?

and that ate at you

you couldn’t look at lara jean for weeks after finding out

because she was dating peter, so why would she send that

and why were you indefinitely in the shadow of someone else?

first it was peter - faster than you, stronger than you, more popular than you; and now it’s lara jean - more confident than you, and more deserving of love than you

you don’t know how to respond

and so you don’t

peter notices that something is wrong and spends more time with you

the teasing stops and the real conversations start

and you were never going to tell him about the letter that lara jean sent john ambrose

but it just came out

and then peter and lara jean are on the rocks and everything that is wrong is your fault

and then john ambrose is on your doorstep

and you’re shocked, and you’re sad, and you still love him

and you don’t know what else to do but fling your arms around him

and he wraps you in a hug

and it’s soft

and warm

and his sweater smells like the same laundry detergent that he used to use - the memory previously locked away but now resurfacing in your mind

and you feel him sigh against you, and it’s comforting and different and new all at the same time

and his smile fills you with admiration and longing

“i’m sorry i never answered you back”

“i know. peter told me”

and you blink in confusion

and he just nods

and for now, everything is fine, and you’re content to hold john ambrose’s hand as you walk up the familiar path to your bedroom where you will talk for the rest of the day

tot boys reacting to the movie “to all the boys, ps i still love you”

(spoilers- i know this film has been out for a long ass time but still-)

luke:

-was definitely team john ambrose

-would be yelling on top of his lungs “LARA JEAN YOU BETTER CHOOSE JOHN AMBROSE”… i said what i said

-definitely relates to john ambrose with the (kind of) friendzoning. no i will not take any criticism.

- literally CRIED for john ambrose (i did too- cos it hit to close to home)

marius:

-also team john ambrose but he tolerates peter (barely)

-would have a teeny crush on john ambrose (bi marius hc is peeking thru as crumbs)

-he would literally go “OH FUCK” at the break-up scene,

exhibit a: “DUDE YOU FUCKED UPPPPPP”

- Shoto Todoroki -

genuinely confused as to why she couldn’t just date both of them. “the boys clearly have a connection and she likes both of them. why not just avoid hurting someone’s feelings. when she can just choose them both?” he’s so precious and oblivious so please explain what’s going on to him. like he’s definitely paying close attention to the movie but he’s still super confused with social interactions and emotions.

- Katsuki Bakugo -

100% yelled “he’s not your therapist you bitch” when he found out the reason behind gen and peter spending so much time together. 100% wanted to fight every single character in the movie except the dad, because he reminds him of his own dad, trevor, and chris since they remind him of his dumbass best friends. he would have probably said “the hell with both of them!” when asked which should have been lara’s choice.

- ✨Yuga Aoyama✨ -

he thought the movie was setting up for JA and peter to both leave lara jean and get together instead. he’s very disappointed at the lack of rivals to lovers content.

- Tamaki Amajiki -

he had multiple panic attacks and second hand embarrassment moments throughout the movie. he cried when peter took the necklace back btw. he’s def the type of guy who thinks lara jean should stay single and figure out who she is post peter before jumping back into a relationship with him or anyone else, also he thinks relationships are waaaay too stressful.

- Mirio Togata -

thought she should have ended up with peter because he helps her open up to new experiences and do things that she normally never would, that being said he does think the relationship is a bit one sided with him receiving all the benefits and lara jean receiving none so he wants him to work on being a better boyfriend. also he’s now craving tarts.

- Hawks -

he wanted lara jean to forget about both of them and go out and party with chris, lucas, and gen when her and peter broke up and her and gen had that heart to heart moment. he doesn’t like to process sadness and negative emotions, so naturally he didn’t want lara jean to feel sad and conflicted either... also he does love a good party scene and was bored with the ones the movie did show.

- Twice -

he actually wanted lara to end up with chris and there for he hates trevor, JA, and peter for ruining the chances of his otp getting together. he’s seriously considering suing everyone involved for not letting them be girlfriends. also he 100% would yell “sapphic rights!” really loudly whenever lara and chris shared a scene together. he’s also mad that stormy didn’t teach lara jean to use ‘the force’ from starwars.... he thought this was a star wars prequel.

- Overhaul -

he hates every character in the movie except for the lara jean’s grandparents because he loves how traditional they are. if you press him to choose then he’d probably say JA. his reasoning would be that JA was the more responsible one out of the two options. he most likely does not care for the plot and will criticize the cinematography and questionable editing choices. he pretends to hate the movie but really he’s having fun over examining every detail of it.

- Dabi -

he’d probably be annoyed at lara jean for giving JA false hope and at peter for being so loud (I have a headcanon that he hates unnecessarily loud people due to endeavor) so he was probably hoping JA realized his worth and met another girl who actually liked him half way through the movie, he’s a sucker for angst, so he’d probably be hoping that lara would realize her true feelings for JA when it was too late. 100% would joke about how lara should have stolen peter’s wallet and just taken lucas , kitty, and chris out for ice cream with his money.

- Natsuo Todoroki -

he hates emotional manipulators and cheaters (I know peter didn’t technically cheat but still he started their relationship based off of a lie when he was still in love with another girl) so I think he’d probably be the one who would want her to end up with JA and never talk to peter ever again other than to give him dirty looks. he was probably hoping chris would punch peter.

Trevor and Chris headcanons:

They've known each other since they were kids, and have always been best friends. It was LJ and Gen, Kavinsky and John Ambrose, and Trevor and Chris.

They were always the odd ones out, even in their own group. Chris was always thought to be too strange, a freak, while Trevor was the idiot jock. They bonded over it.

They are not dating. Chris is asked about it all the time. She hates it. They. Are. Not. Dating.

They talk a lot, ok? They have a lot of fun together. They go to concerts together and tease each other and play fight and have 3 a.m. Denny's runs every Friday and tell each other things they have never told anyone else, but they are 100% not dating.

They are just best friends, and that is fine for both of them. Until Chris wakes up a couple of months after the end of P.S. I Love You, and realizes, "Holy shit, I'm in love with Trevor." Chris tells him when they hang out later that day. He just grabs her hand, interlocks their fingers, and says, "I know. Me too."

It's simple, like them.

Music is a huge part of their relationship. Trevor makes playlists for Chris all the time, and Chris is always dragging Trevor to the latest concert at her favorite dive bar. They both like rock, but Trevor is more into pop punk while Chris prefers metal.

Chris got Trevor that Valentine serenade, all right? She knows he loves the Backstreet Boys, and thought he would love to be surrounded by the acapella club in the middle of class, all eyes on him.

Trevor isn't vain, but he does like it when people notice him, especially if he can have fun while doing so. He's proud at this point that people see him as a fun-loving dude who's good at lacrosse (and has good hair). Chris likes it too but is more lowkey, so when they do start dating they have to learn how to find a balance that is best for both of them.

(Their relationship doesn't change much when they start dating. They practically were together even when they weren't.)

Cris starts to dress up with LJ for the lacrosse games when she and Trevor officially begin dating. She had always refused to do it before, had always ignored the look on Trevor's face when she told him no. The joy on his face still makes Chris blush when she thinks about it.

I felt two ways going into this movie. On the one hand, I was so excited!! to continue on with Lara Jean’s story and I’ll never say no to Noah Centineo on my TV. But on the other hand, I wasn’t too enthusiastic to watch a sequel to a romantic comedy. It’s like a sequel to a murder mystery... who cares after the murderer is found and the mystery solved? Lara Jean and Peter got together.... I’m satisfied.

Regardless, there is a second movie. I saw the Sara Burgess movie for Noah Centineo because my thirst is that strong, so whether or not I was enthused for a sequel to a romcom, for Noah Centineo, I’d walk that mile.

I thought the movie was overall very cute and didn’t hit the sophomore bump that the middle movie in trilogy’s sometimes fall folly to. 

One thing I didn’t like were the love triangles. I felt sorry for John Ambrose because he was awkwardly led on for the entire movie, all the way until the end with that kiss. The emotional cheating undermined Lara’s jealousy. Even with the hot tub revelation, I don’t really sympathize with her being jealous of Gen because Peter was never unfaithful in their relationship, which we see in the second movie. In fact, the movie subverted Lara Jean’s expectations with the Gen plot twist. It was just her insecurities messing with her, and in the end, she’s the only one who was unfaithful. It never ruined the movie for me because she’s a teenager in her first relationship (and so I can hand wave it), but it did make the “break up” fall a little flat to me and the resulting angst wasn’t as delicious as I’d like. Though, I’m thankful that the movie got pining!angsty!Noah Centineo on my TV.

I feel like both those stories could have been improved by focusing more on one than the other. Lara Jean’s jealous over Gen influences her decision to flirt with John Ambrose, and the Gen subplot involves Peter as a major character and continues storylines with Gen. So personally, I’d put more focus on that story. If they must ruin the hot tub scene from the first movie, it’d be better to develop WHY Peter would do such a thing. Perhaps he had a real hard time letting go of Gen and saying no to her because she was pulling some strings (and perhaps this went into things like Peter always, always, always feeling pressure to be the Ultimate Boyfriend, like spending money on the acapella group for Valentine’s Day, Gen dressing up for all the games, idk other OTT stuff that he felt corned into). But Lara Jean never makes him feel pressured, so even though Peter is less overtly romantic with Lara Jean, he’s actually being more authentic and himself. When the hot tub scene happens, Peter waits for Gen because he’s still mentally under her spell, so when he meets with Lara Jean, it’s not what he expected... because he NEVER expected to get what he actually wanted -- Lara Jean, but also the freedom to want what he wants, and not feel cornered to do something he didn’t want to do.

The very last scene really confused me because it was like Peter and Lara Jean were floating into the sky. There were some other surreal moments that were confusing -- like the signs in the school, such as “Fakesgiving,” I thought it was a school event but it was just a family thing. Also, Lara Jean’s lip syncing was so awkward that I covered the screen. I’d accept awkward Noah Centineo lip syncing.... maybe. I’m not sure. There might be limits to my thirst.

My only real disappoint is that we never got a heist film subplot to secure Lara Jean’s scrunchy back from Gen’s clutches. RIP her scrunchy, which I headcanon to originally be her mother’s.
