I think I prefer toxicingly loving overprotective black parents to abusive black parents because of where that disappointment for Andromedas “betrayal” was rooted in, rather than fearing her parents she believed what they said was good and worthy. And it wasn’t until she started feeling something for Ted did she question everything that she had been taught but she knew her family wouldn’t hurt her. They thought highly of her and had high expectations, but in her parents eyes she could almost do no wrong. And then she did the one thing that was so wrong they never gave her an ounce of love again. Of course her sisters felt betrayed, why would their middle sister run away? Why would she leave such a perfect home? There wasn’t anything bad to begin with. It’s why bellatrix is so obsessive with her love and wanting to receive the same praise constantly, not because she was never given it. Actually the opposite, that’s the only way she knows she’s appreciated. It’s why draco is so spoiled by Narcissa. Though this time she genuinely loves and adores her son, she’s still learning how to do it in a more healthy manner… unlike that of her mothers. Even Andromeda has habits that haven’t completely disappeared. She’s overprotective of Tonks and a little overbearing, But she can’t help but keep it up after having a mother who acted like that

Thinking about the GOSSIP that happened at Black family reunions. There’s so much dirt that Andromeda, Bellatrix, and Narcissa can dig up but also adding in Sirius and Regulus? Narcissa in love - Narcissa x fem!reader

A couple of headcanons that guide me for my Narcissa fic. Am I gaslighting you to forget about the fact I have yet to post another chapter by posting this? Maybe. In the meantime, enjoy! 🤍

She's a cold person who's used to getting what she wants whenever she wants but that doesn't mean she is heartless. She creates a persona from all the rules she respected when growing up and none of them was about handling one's feelings

When she meets you the only things she notices are your imperfections and ways to improve them. It's not intentional, it's just her usual train of thought when meeting someone. But those intrigue her

Usually she'd put them aside, she always does, but with you it's different. It's the way those brows were a little bit disheveled and how your lipstick smeared over the lip line after having a sip of the drink you held. How the clothes you wore had wrinkled from sitting down a long time and how your neck was stiff and affecting your posture

She becomes captivated by all those things and starts to think for the first time about why. Why did your brows look like you've been sleeping recently, why didn't you notice the lipstick, why did you sit for so long and why are you hurting yourself with a bad posture?

She likes to start conversations and end conversations whenever she wants and that’s exactly the treatment you’ll get the first few times. But it seems she can’t quite get enough of your voice and begins to let you lead the conversation

Soon enough she starts to crave your presence. She’ll be right next to you to smell your perfume, paint her nails often for you to grab her hands and admire her manicure, whisper nonsense into your ear when you're in a crowded place just so she would make you smile and laugh

The mask of perfection slips and for the first time in her life she’s out in the open, with no protection against the world but you

She won’t admit it’s more than a very fond friendship, not even to herself, for a long time but when most tomorrows she makes plans for you two, she might start to see it. She fell in love with you

A confession would take even more time as she doesn’t want to scare you off. Every time she fantasizes about telling you about her feelings, her heart feels squeezed in an iron grip at the immediate thought of losing you.So she settles with the usual “I adore spending time with you”

She might begin to feel satisfied with just your presence and as the time goes by, she doesn’t feel the need to tell you anymore. She finds self sufficiency in the fact that you’re by her side and for the first time in a long while she is once again conforming to all the social norms of her world

Little does she know you’ve fallen for her too and seeing her going back to her cold hearted demeanor is the last and definitive reason to come clean in front of her

No matter how you decide to confess your feelings, Narcissa would be left speechless. She’d freeze then and overreact in the exact opposite way you would expect. She shuns you completely for the first time since she met you

But as time goes by and you’re not by her side, she’d start missing you. Everywhere she goes, everyone she sees, everything she hears somehow ends up being related to you. You’d be everywhere and nowhere at the same time

She’d look for ways to make up for rejecting you and even though you put her in a turmoil denying how the mere fact of Narcissa chasing you is making your heart leap to heaven, time brings you together once more

She loves to hold you until your breathing is even and deep and she can feel your muscles relax in her hold as your body succumbs to sleep

She loves to touch your skin with her hands and lips, to hear you sigh and moan and chant her name over and over as she pleasures you

She loves to make you smile and laugh and forget about the world outside of your little bubble

She loves you and as long as you do too, she won’t need anything else in order to live

Regulus was dead, Andromeda, Sirius and Pandora were disowned, and Bellatrix was already engulfed in all of Voldemort’s madness

so she lost the one person that comforted her, because Evan knew what she was going through

because Evan had gone through it as well

but Narcissa and Barty, they tried to comfort each other, they honestly did, seeing the other as a replacement

it worked fine for a bit,

until 1981, when Barty decided to help the death eaters look for the Dark Lord and sought for the Longbottoms for information

torturing them for information

Marauders Era wand headcanons, part 2

Sirius was in my first post - here's the rest of the Blacks

First, a note about the cores:

I hc that the Blacks all use wands with dragon heartstring cores. For some, it comes more naturally than others, but they go to Ollivander's refusing to try - or to let their children try - anything else. Dragon wands produce the most powerful magic, and they're the most easily turned toward the Dark Arts, so I think the Blacks would find dragon to be by far the most desirable, and indeed, the only thing worthy of them.

Regulus: blackthorn and dragon heartstring

Blackthorn is "best suited to a warrior" and will only fully bond with its owner after surviving some sort of dangerous situation together. I chose this mainly for the symbolism. Regulus is imo a character who dies just as he's beginning to unlock his true potential. I like the idea that, if he had lived, he would have found himself capable of more than he expected before, having perhaps never realized just how much his wand was holding back.

Also, it looks at first glance like kind of a generic "bad guy" wand - the only blackthorn wand in canon is the one Ron took from a Snatcher - which fits with Regulus's conformity to his family and peers. But the bush it comes from is described as having both "wicked thorns" and sweet berries, and blackthorn wands don't exclusively choose Dark Wizards - so it also fits with his eventual change of heart.

Narcissa: cherry and dragon heartstring

Cherry is often dismissed as "frivolous or merely ornamental" but is in fact very powerful and potentially dangerous, especially with a dragon heartstring core. The combination is best paired with someone who has "exceptional self-control and strength of mind" - which I think is a good description of Narcissa. I hc her as a skilled occlumens, and even aside from that, she manages to hold herself together through quite a bit in the last few books.

Andromeda: larch and dragon heartstring

Larch "creates wands of hidden talents and unexpected effects, which likewise describes the master who deserves it." I kind of think Andromeda shocked everyone when she ran off with Ted, so I like the idea of a wand that hints at that. Larch is also supposed to be associated with "courage and confidence" - qualities I suspect Andromeda has quite a bit of.

Bellatrix: walnut and dragon heartstring

This one is canon. Walnut chooses the most intelligent witches and wizards, which suggests that Bellatrix was highly intelligent. There are hints of that in canon, but I think it must have been even more obvious pre-Azkaban. Walnut is also notable in that it won't refuse to do any sort of magic, unlike others that are difficult to use for the Dark Arts or take on aspects of their owner's moral code.

Canonically, Andromeda was the middle sister but could you ever imagine her being born first? There’s some headcanons and fanfics out there that support that

Hello anon! In short, I can only see Andromeda as oldest if she is oldest to *brothers* only. If she has sisters, she is the middle or the youngest, but canonically, only the middle. Allow me to explain, and forgive me for how lengthy this will be.

Bellatrix makes sense as the oldest in terms of her natural leadership, outspokenness, and charisma. Oldest children tend to be more assertive (aka 'bossy') and feel responsible for others. While I can see Andromeda being responsible for others as a middle child, I don't see her having the same outspokenness and natural charisma that Bellatrix has. Not all eldest children are like this, but painting in broad strokes here, Bellatrix is just a natural firstborn.

I will also add that firstborn children can be very rebellious (see Sirius) but not necessarily in a way that's radically different from their parents. Yes, Sirius strongly denounces the prejudices he grew up with, but he's so like his mother in personality. Different lyrics, if you will, but the same melody. I imagine Bellatrix is the same, especially with her father, and her rebellion goes in a dark, dramatic direction.

Andromeda *could* be the oldest if she had brothers. I find it interesting that the only female Death Eater is Bellatrix. Though JKR (thinks she has but not really) built a world that seems to be friendlier towards witches in terms of political and educational power, the Death Eaters and the way pureblood witches are framed raises some red flags. By this I mean that there is misogyny in this world, and it's found in classist cultures too. Purebloods, with their money and natural political power, would have these views, particularly in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. If Andromeda were the oldest, it would have to be to brothers wherein the oldest son is greatest as the true oldest, and Andromeda is oldest by age alone.

Think of Walburga for a moment. Canonically she is the oldest and her strong AF personality 100% supports that. She married Orion and had the privilege of bearing sons in a world that is clearly obsessed with bloodlines and surnames - which can only be passed down through men. In a family like the Blacks, who are obsessed with this patriarchal purity, Andromeda could be the oldest of brothers, but relegated to the side for being a girl instead of a boy. That would soften her personality a bit, in terms of making her more like a middle child or a youngest.

I love Andromeda as a middle sister for so many reasons: it's easy to overlook her. It's easy to find her stuck in the middle between sisters and parents, struggling to stand out but also fit in. She's a bit of a wild card - I love that she's the one to upset the family balance after years of (probably) playing peacekeeper among two strong personalities.

I can also imagine Andromeda as the youngest, but only if Narcissa is NOT in the picture. Narcissa doesn't give off middle child vibes - she's giving me oldest, youngest, or only, but mostly youngest and only. She stands out with her blonde hair and her fabulous life. She's got a better temperament than Bellatrix and is more strategic in her decision making. She also shows a certain amount of disregard for the rules - she goes out of her way to get Snape to make an Unbreakable Vow and she lies to Voldemort's face. Anyone with younger siblings knows that while the oldest get the worst punishments, youngest siblings can practically get away with murder. Narcissa is showing this kind of attitude with her choices - the rules don't exactly apply to her in the same way as they do with other people.

Bellatrix, meanwhile, LOVES the rules. They're batshit crazy rules, sure, but she's following them and living her best life while doing so. The #1 rule is do what Volde-daddy tells you to do. Don't betray him. Narcissa ain't got the time for that nonsense. She's putting her son first.

Andromeda as a youngest sibling can make sense if she's got other siblings, potentially older sisters or an older brother and sister. She does have that same rebellious streak, but it's not radical in the way that Bellatrix or even Sirius is. Andromeda is disowned because she runs off with Ted Tonks. Sirius is disowned not only because he runs away but loudly and proudly rejects his parents' viewpoints. He runs away to live with blood traitors. Andromeda sort of disappears into the background (like any middle child).

Right now I'm working on a Tedromeda/Remadora longfic that is AU - I'm switching Alphard with Andromeda, but I am making Andromeda the youngest. (Rearranging birth dates is a must-do anyway because among many things JKR sucks at, math is one of them.) She'll have a good gap of about 9 years between her birthday and her next older sibling, Cygnus. It's enough of a gap that she is the youngest, but in many ways she'll have been raised like an only child, which will give her a different dynamic than a middle child, e.g. more spoiled, but she's also watched by more pairs of eyes, which means she'll be more hesitant to rebel.

Anyway, that is a long answer and I hope it answers your question, anon. Canonically, the middle-born Andromeda is the best Andromeda. Eldest/youngest/only only in an AU situation with other factors that would shape her personality to be similar to her canon counterpart.
