#no but it was actually a disaster and wiping at my eyes just made me sneeze more

today i put a very strong scented lotion on my hands and proceeded to spend the rest of the day (until the scent finally washed off) accidentally making myself sneeze every time i tried to swipe at, rub, or even palm my already itchy, runny, allergic nose. whatever was in the lotion made my nose so tickly that every time i so much as brought my hand to my face, the slightest whiff of it sent me into a fit, warm, itchy tears streaking my face.
it felt like no matter how many times i washed my hands, i could still smell it and feel it prickling at my flaring nostrils, so i spent the entire day rubbing my nose, freezing mid sniffle and cursing myself silently upon remembering my predicament, and being launched back into another seemingly endless sneezing fit.
needless to say i should probably find a new hand lotion to put in my purse, but i think i’ll keep this other one in a drawer somewhere, should it ever come in handy ;)

disaster strikes and you and Spencer try to take custody of your younger sister
who? spencer reid x fem!reader category: angst content warnings: actually might be gn! but i'm too scared to say it is. death, orphan-ing, funerals, child custody issues, blood, general cm violence, like actually an abhorrent amount of death. sorry i killed your parents for the sake of my fanfiction can we still be friends? word count: 3.33k a/n: this is the fic that this post is about. i am in fact my own worst enemy. i hope y'all like it actually genuinely i am most definitely overthinking this. if your name is maya im sorry that sucks.
Tumblr media
“What did your parents say?” Spencer asked, walking into the conference room that the local precinct had offered to you.
You had been staring blankly at your phone since you got off the call with your mother, “Uh, they said thanks, but no thanks.”
The uneasy feeling had settled in your stomach as soon as you found out the team was being called to your hometown, and you had been nauseous ever since you found out the UnSub’s pattern.
Married couples with an older child who had moved out and a younger child who was still at home.
Your little sister was a surprise, you had incorrectly assumed your parents were done having kids.
Until today, you wouldn’t have traded Maya for the world, but now you sat in fear of your family being targeted by a serial killer. Hotch had offered them a protective detail, but they declined. Self-righteous as they were, they told you it wouldn’t feel right for them to accept help that couldn’t be offered to everyone.
Clenching your jaw, you stood at the table, “I’ll go by later and check in on them.”
Spencer had met your family twice by now. Last Christmas he had tagged along to meet them and celebrate with your family before the two of you spent New Year’s with his mom. Then, while your sister was on Spring Break, they flew out to Virginia, and you and Spencer had shown your family around Quantico and the District.
Maya had loved Spencer, partially because you loved him, but mostly because of his magic tricks.
“Do you want me to go with you?” He asked, stepping up next to you and placing a hand on the small of your back.
You sighed and shook your head, “No, not if you’re needed here.” You reached up and cupped his cheek, smiling softly, “Thank you for offering, Spence.”
He nodded affirmatively, “If you change your mind,” he offered. Gently, he pressed a soft kiss to your forehead before the two of you returned to the rest of the team.
The fact that your parents lived only five minutes from the police station gave you some relief, but you still felt tightly wound. Everyone had noticed. You just needed this case to be over.
The porch lights were on when you got there, and you used your house key – which you had never taken off of your keychain - to open the front door. “Hey, kiddo,” your dad greeted from the couch. A peek into the kitchen showed you that your mom was wiping down the counters. It all felt so eerily normal.
It was dark by the time you had gotten there. Maya was already asleep, but you tip-toed into her room anyway and kissed her goodnight before going back downstairs. Once you had hugged both of your parents and told them you loved them, you made your way back to the police precinct.
By nearly three in the morning, there was no new information, and the team was starting to consider calling it a night until the police chief got a call.
“We just got a call. Lady reported shouts coming from her neighbor’s house at 86 Meadowbrook,” he informed you, putting his hands on his hips and looking around at the team.
None of them even spared him a returning glance, everyone’s eyes were on you.
Blinking rapidly, you nodded assuredly, “I have to go get Maya.” You didn’t even recognize your voice even as you said it. It couldn’t have been your voice. That was the rasp of someone far away from you.
All of the other voices around you were muffled, you couldn’t hear what people were telling you, let alone understand them.
Maya. Maya. Maya.
Brown eyes. There they were, right in front of your face. “Let’s go get her,” Spencer whispered.
You had been speaking out loud. Repeating your sister’s name like a prayer without even realizing it.
Hotch let you go with them, but he made it abundantly clear to you – and the rest of the team – that you weren’t working this case anymore.
Surrounded by reverent voices in an SUV, JJ drove while Spencer stayed in the back with you. He held your hand tightly in his.
The house was closed off with police tape. Bright yellow plastic fluttered in the wind as you watched your team and other emergency personnel enter and exit. At your insistence, Spencer went in to get Maya, it felt like it had been hours before he walked out, carrying her in his arms.
Carefully, he brought her to you, and you pulled her close to your chest, blocking her eyesight as two body bags were brought out of the house.
You didn’t hear anything after that. You just let yourself be moved to wherever you needed to be, holding your kid sister as she cried for your parents.
They had to take their bodies to the hospital even though they were already gone, and you needed to be the one to confirm their identities. Spencer stayed with Maya while you were busy. She had cried herself to the point of exhaustion, you were grateful that she was sleeping, and then you felt cruel.
By sunrise, she was still asleep, and you had been set up in that same conference room from earlier. Sitting across from you was a social worker, a representative of the state. Your lips had parted in shock as you looked at her, “What do you mean they denied my request?”
In an attempt to be helpful, JJ worked with you to file an emergency request for custody of Maya, and the case worker had just told you that the request was denied. “The state doesn’t believe your request is valid,” she told you.
Your mouth went dry, “I don’t…” you glanced over at your little sister. “Our parents were murdered last night, and they won’t let me take custody of my sister?” You asked indignantly, peering at the social worker. It wasn’t her fault, somewhere in your grief-ridden brain you knew that, but you couldn’t help the feeling that she was somehow your enemy.
“They don’t believe you can provide her with a stable living environment,” the social worker, Brittany, explained.
Narrowing your eyes, you responded, “A stable living environment like a foster home? I’m her sister. We’re family – the only family each other has left.” You stood up, excusing yourself for a moment before walking out of the precinct. Once you were outside, you promptly hurled into the bushes.
That was how he found you, to the side of the building with your hair haphazardly moved out of your face, dry heaving into the shrubbery. Gently, Spencer placed a hand on your back before starting to rub small circles on your back, “You should eat something, love.”
You just shook your head in response, you weren’t hungry. “They won’t let me take her,” you whispered morosely, straightening up, you kept your back facing him.
“What?” He asked, his hand abruptly stopping its movement on your back.
Taking a deep breath and sitting on the curb, you looked up at Spencer. “The state thinks I’m not stable enough to take her in,” you said, resting your chin in your hands.
Your boyfriend crouched down so that he could sit next to you, “Are you going to challenge it?”
“Of course I am,” you cried. “But what happens to her in the interim, Spence? She gets placed with whatever foster home here and I go back to Virginia? I see her when the family court resolves this in two years?”
Treading carefully, Spencer cleared his throat, “What are you going to do?”
Defeated, you shrugged. “I don’t know. I’m…” your voice trailed off. “My parents are dead, Spencer,” you murmured softly, tears welling in your eyes.
He reached out and wrapped his arms around you, “I know, darling. I know. I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t think I can do this alone,” you whispered, leaning gently into him.
Spencer turned to kiss your temple, “It’s a good thing you’re not alone then. I’m not going anywhere.” He waited for a moment before continuing, “Give me something to do. Give me a job to take off of your shoulders.”
In the end, you let Spencer take over funeral planning. He thanked you for trusting him before the both of you went back into the precinct.
Tumblr media
You had just hung up with a family lawyer who had offered to take your case, letting your phone drop to the floor, you let your arms hang at your side. Someone had taken Maya to get breakfast while you spoke with the lawyer.
At the sound of the phone falling to the floor, Spencer stepped into the conference room, letting the door click shut before him. “Hey, what did he say?”
Pressing the heels of your palms into your eyes, you took in a deep breath, “Um, he said he’d be willing to take the case if I could put together a case plan to present before the judge.”
Before that phone call, you didn’t know what a case plan was, you could’ve gone your whole life without knowing what a case plan was.
“I need a year-long plan for how I’m going to prepare to have Maya in my custody, but he said a year is the best he can do,” you said, staring blankly at the wall ahead of you. “A year?” You whispered aimlessly, “I’m not waiting a fucking year to take custody of her. I have to take her home, Spence. I have to.” It wasn’t your intention to snipe at him, but you felt like you couldn’t help yourself.
The events of the last twelve hours threatened to take you down, but you had to stay strong for Maya.
Taking a shaky breath, you looked up at Spencer, “Why is it that every time I convince myself that it’s going to be okay, I get tossed to the ground again?” You asked him.
Maybe because you weren’t fully convinced. Maybe it was because it had only been seven hours. You needed to remind yourself of that.
“She’s a ward of the state?” Spencer asked for clarification, holding you tightly.
Nodding absentmindedly, you rested your head on his shoulder as he swayed gently. “She can stay with me until after the funeral, and after that, she has to go with the social worker.”
The sad look on Spencer’s face told you that he was running out of ideas, and you were coming to the very same conclusion. “We could get married,” he offered.
“Stop, Spence,” you said, shaking your head. You couldn’t believe this was where he was going.
He shrugged helplessly, “I’m serious, Y/N. If we get married, they might think we’re stable, as a couple. They might give us custody.”
Your shoulders slumped, “I don’t want to get married just to get custody of my sister.” It certainly wasn’t that you didn’t want to marry Spencer, just not like this.
He nodded understandingly, “I know, but I’m just saying. If that’s what it takes, then I’ll do it.” Placing a comforting hand on your knee, the two of you sat in silence for a moment. “Do you have any ideas?” He asked you carefully.
Looking through the blinds of the conference room, you saw the rest of the team coming back to the precinct. Setting your jaw, you nodded, “I might.”
Opening the door, you had Maya go in with Spencer while you approached your Unit Chief. “Hey,” Hotch said, a glint of sympathy in his eyes. “How are you holding up?” He pulled you away from the people, wanting to give you privacy.
This wasn’t fair, they were still working on an active case. A case that was disturbingly close to you, and yet, you felt you were out of options. “I need a favor,” you blurted to him, wringing your hands. Your nervous energy made it impossible for you to stay still.
Hotch nodded, “What do you need?” He asked, studying your composure with the eye of a profiler.
You took a deep breath, “I was… I need you to call in a favor with someone. Anyone, really. The state won’t let me take custody of Maya, but I can’t let her become a ward of the state. Not when I’m right here, ready, willing, and able to take her.”
“Okay,” he responded, not even pausing to think about it.
Taken aback, you looked at him curiously, “I- that’s it? I had groveling prepared.”
He nodded almost imperceptibly as if he was trying to tell you it wasn’t necessary. “You’ve been a part of this team for years and not once have you ever asked for anything in return for everything you do for everyone else. This is the least I can do,” he told you.
You couldn’t help it. Overwhelmed, you tackled Hotch in a bear hug, “Thank you.” Your voice was low, “Thank you so much.”
Succinctly, Hotch hugged you back before you pulled away, “I’ll go make some calls.”
Tumblr media
It was the smell.
The smell that you’d sensed countless times before on the job, the metallic tang of the blood. It should’ve been mostly dried by now – you supposed you were more susceptible to the scent, considering it was your parent’s blood, but it put you on high alert.
Emily had brought you by so that you could pack a bag for Maya, but you found yourself stuck on the landing. To one side, there was your childhood bedroom and Maya’s room. On the other side, there was your parent’s room.
“Y/N?” Emily called your name from downstairs, “Are you alright?”
No, you wanted to say, but you bit your tongue, scanning the house you had grown up in. “This doesn’t belong here,” you told her, glancing behind you as she made her way up the staircase.
You didn’t have gloves, so instead you pointed at the figurine that was resting on the bookshelves, a little bear facing in the direction of your parent’s bedroom door. “This is in the wrong spot?”
Nodding, your eyes followed the ceramic bear as Emily picked it up with a gloved hand. “It’s mine, it should be in my room,” you informed her. Your parents never changed anything about your childhood bedroom, not since you moved out. “It was like it was watching them,” you thought aloud.
“Do you think the UnSub did it?” She asked you gently, her voice was low but steady.
Blinking rapidly, you kept your eyes focused on the figurine, “Little Bear,” you murmured, “They called her Little Bear.”
Emily shook her head in confusion, dark hair swaying as her head moved. “Who was called Little Bear?”
Dropping the bag you had packed to the floor, you buried your face in your hands, “I should’ve seen it sooner.” The victimology, it all suddenly made sense to you. “When I was a kid, there was a family like mine. A brother who was in his twenties when his parents had another baby, a girl. They called her Little Bear.”
Realization dawned on Emily’s dark features, “Like this bear?”
You picked up the bag and started making your way back down the stairs. “Their mother made those figurines. The parents died in a fire two weeks ago – they left everything to the younger sister. It was all over the news. God, I should’ve figured it out sooner.”
“Hey,” Emily said sympathetically, “You had other things going on. None of this was your fault.” Her voice was stern, harsher than you’d ever heard her, as she pulled out her phone and called the team.
Your teammate drove, passing the police station on the way to drop you off. They left for the takedown, and you felt yourself floating into the precinct. Maya was waiting in the conference room for you, watching cartoons on someone’s laptop.
Kneeling in front of your little sister, you tapped the space bar, pausing the video. “Hey, kiddo,” you whispered, reaching over, and smoothing her hair away from her face. “How are you feeling?”
She had cried herself to sleep earlier, and you felt like you hadn’t been around enough. Maya sat up on the couch and rubbed her eyes, they were red, but not teary. “I miss mommy,” she told you, pouting slightly.
You nodded gently, moving to sit next to her before you pulled her into your lap. At six years old, she was all gangly limbs, just starting to grow into her own person. Just old enough to understand death, “I know, baby. I miss them too.”
“They wouldn’t lemme go home,” she continued, leaning her head on your shoulder. “I wanted Thumper,” she whined, sounding younger than she was.
Looking up at the light, you silently begged for your tears to go away. “I got him for you,” you told her, reaching into your bag and producing the small stuffed bunny that you had given her as a baby.
You savored the way her eyes lit up as she grabbed the stuffed animal from you.
“So, you and Thumper are gonna come to stay with me in Virginia. Do you remember going there? You said you liked it?” You kept smoothing her hair back as she held her toy.
She was silent for a moment, “Will Spencer be there?” She asked quietly.
Smiling slightly, you nodded, “He and I live together, so he’ll be there with us.” Slowly, you started rocking back and forth, trying to soothe the both of you simultaneously.
“As long as he doesn’t pull money out of my ear,” she answered succinctly, shutting her eyes as she leaned up against you.
There was approximately an hour before you watched the team return to the precinct, slowly, you laid Maya down on the couch before walking out. “It was a clean shoot,” you heard Rossi tell Morgan, and one look at the rest of them told you everything you needed to know.
The team went back to the hotel, and Spencer filled you in on the funeral arrangements he had made on your behalf. You were about to try to get some sleep when Hotch approached you and told you he needed to speak to you.
“I called a good friend of mine on your behalf, and he gave me some information. We were able to work out a plan,” he told you, sitting across from you in the hotel lobby.
You were about to tell him that a case plan wouldn’t work, but he held his hand out, telling you to wait.
He nodded before he kept going, “He was able to file an emergency request to grant you temporary custody of Maya, and it was granted.”
You felt sick to your stomach, “She’s mine?”
“Temporarily, you’ll have to take care of some formalities back in Virginia, but you have full custody of her,” he informed you. “You’re being granted family leave, and I’ve encouraged Reid to apply for it as well,” Hotch told you, reaching out and placing a hand on your shoulder. “I am… I’m sorry that you’ve had to go through this but thank you for coming to me when you needed the help.”
You nodded absentmindedly, your head still whirling with the information that you had just been given. Stumbling, you walked back to your hotel room that you were sharing with Spencer and Maya.
The funeral was planned, the custody issue was solved, all there was left to do was…
“Baby?” Spencer said softly as you swung open the door, “Everyone else took Maya to get ice cream, I figured it couldn’t-“ his voice broke off at your first sob.
Everything you had held in came bursting out, all of the grief and stress and exhaustion nearly knocked your legs out from underneath you.
But Spencer was there to catch you.

It had been a while since James could confidently say he had come home to the smell of food being cooked in the kitchen. The sound of onions sizzling and sauces bubbling was like a fanfare welcoming and inviting him into the space.
“Hey, you got back home just in time,” he heard your voice call from the kitchen. “I need an extra pair of hands, get in here.”
“Normally when people say that it means the food is already finished cooking,” James teased, after having taken off his shoes and rolled up his sleeves so that you could put him to work.
“And let you miss out on this fun?” you scoffed. “No way.”
“Where do you need me?” he asked, coming to stand behind you, placing his hands on your hips and pressing a kiss behind your ear. “Cause I’m more than happy to just keep doing this.”
“Ease up, lover boy,” you chuckled. “Steak needs searing and I know how particular you get about your perfect medium.”
“Steak, are we celebrating?” he asked.
“Yes, the fact that you made it home on time for dinner,” you looked over at him to gauge his reaction and he couldn’t fight back a smile and shook his head.
“How was work?” he asked, side-stepping your comment.
“My arch-nemesis is an eight-year-old named Justin, how do you think work went?” you asked and James laughed at your response. “I’m kidding, it was alright, Justin has a cold so he wasn’t in class today.”
“I’m excited to come in for career day and meet all these eight-year-olds that occupy every story you tell,” he said. “Who knows, maybe Justin will like me.”
“I doubt it, he only likes his friend Asante and even then sometimes Asante still gets caught up in his whirlwind. Kind of like you and House actually.”
“I do not get caught up in his whirlwind,” James looked at you, offended, and you looked over at him to ask if he was serious.
“You lied to the police for him, you most definitely got caught up in it.”
James opened his mouth for a rebuttal, but shut it seeing as you had made a very valid point.
“How was your day at work?” you asked. “Did Cuddy finally approve that expansion for the playroom?”
“Not quite yet, but I think I’m almost there. Maybe if I throw House under the bus when he goes behind her back that’ll sweeten the deal,” he thought to himself.
“But at what cost, House is gonna fight back and you’re gonna regret every decision you ever made.”
James weighed his options before giving up and saying he’d decide what to do about it later.
You moved over to the stove where James was to pour some pureed tomatoes into the onions frying on the stove to make a sauce to go on the side with the vegetables and the steak. What you didn’t realize is that James, in his haste to turn down the heat on the stove, would knock the spoon out of your hand, making it fall in the dish and making the tomatoes splatter all over your shirt.
“Oh my God,” James’ eyes went wide, seeing the splotch on your shirt. “I’m so sorry.”
“I should have known having you in the kitchen would only result in disaster,” you teased, not at all upset by the mess. “It’s nothing a little TLC can’t take care of.”
“Can I make it up to you?” James asked. “I know how much you liked that shirt.”
You used your finger to scoop off some of the pureed tomato off your shirt and place it on his nose.
“I don’t know, can you?” you asked with raised brows.
James wiped the sauce off his nose before grabbing your sleeves and giving you a signal with his eyes for you to slip your arms out of them before he helped pull the shirt off your head without contaminating anything else, leaving you in a thin tank top.
“I think you’re just making it up to yourself,” you laughed, looking down at what you were wearing.
“If I were making it up to myself, I would have done this,” he took the spoon out of the tomato sauce and flicked it at you, now getting your undershirt dirty. “Oops.”
“Oh, you’re so going to pay for that,” you shook your head and just to spite him you kept the tank top on even though it was dirty.
By then the butter in James’ pan had melted and was beginning to bubble so he turned his attention back to the stove so that he could begin searing the steak. You cooked in tandem for a while, and once the steak was cooked James stole a few kisses from you, apologizing again for your shirt and you assured him he could take it off later if he really wanted to.
“Do you want me to set the table?” James asked, after washing his hands and having set the steak off to the side.
“That would be nice, it could be like a little home date,” you smiled while putting some potatoes in the oven to cook.
You watched as James dug around the cupboards for a tablecloth and candles, carefully setting everything up on the dining room table so that it was just right.
Slowly, one by one, the dishes made their way onto the table as they were ready and when everything was set up you looked down at yourself and wondered if maybe you were a bit underdressed.
“Maybe I should change into something a little nicer,” you said while James lit the candles on the table.
“Change, what for?”
“I’ve got tomato all over my shirt, James. I thought that one was pretty obvious.”
“No, I mean this is a home date, isn’t the whole point that it can be as messy as we want it to be?” he asked. “I mean, I don’t have to wear this tie,” he pointed to it as he came closer to you, prompting you to take it between your fingers and feel the fabric before helping him untie it and throw it off to the side.
You unbuttoned the top few buttons of his shirt and for good measure he took a spoon of the sauce and poured it on his shirt.
“There, we match.”
“And need to do a load of laundry after this,” you chuckled and pulled him in by the collar of his shirt for a kiss. “I love you, and I love cooking with you.”
“Me too, to both of those things,” James agreed and you grinned before turning him around and pushing him in the direction of his seat, insisting that you were starving and needed to eat. “So, I was thinking,” James started while serving you some sides.
“Oh, that’s dangerous.”
“I was thinking,” he repeated. “Our anniversary is coming up. Do you want to do something special?”
“Hmm,” you thought for a moment. “We could both take a sick day,” you suggested. “Or a few, go up to Connecticut, rent a cabin.”
“Cook all day,” James teased and you smiled. “I think that sounds like a great plan. We’ve always talked about doing something like that haven’t we?”
“Yeah, it just…I don’t know, never seemed like the right time.”
“You sure you won’t miss your kiddos too much?” he asked.
“As much as I love them, a few days just the two of us is too enticing to pass up,” you sipped your drink.
Eating dinner was not nearly as fun as cooking it together, but you both made do with what you could and James stories were nothing short of interesting especially when they included House and his team.
“Alright, I think I’m stuffed now,” you leaned back in your seat. “But we should clean this up before I go into a food coma.”
“I wash, you rinse?” James asked.
“We have a dishwasher, James,” you chuckled.
“I know, I just thought you might want to spend more time, but I know when my company isn’t wanted,” he feigned offence.
“Awe, that’s actually really sweet,” you let out a small laugh. “Alright, I’ll suffer through dishwashing for you, Wilson.”
“Just for that, you’re washing and I’m rinsing,” he gave you a look and you conceded, standing up from the table and clearing the leftovers before getting started on what was in the sink.
“James, be careful with that, you’re accidentally spraying water all over me,” you nudged him with your hip.
“Oh sorry I meant to actually spray water all over you,” he turned the moveable faucet in your direction and you gasped when the water hit your shirt. “I mean you did say we needed to do laundry.”
“Is this why you wanted to wash dishes? To get me wet?-I heard it James don’t you dare make a comment,” you immediately amended and he fought back a chuckle.
“I love you,” he smiled again and you wished he would wipe that stupid grin off of his face because it made it really hard to be annoyed with him.
“You think you can just say I love you and it’s gonna make it all better?” you asked. “Cause you’re right, it is,” you grabbed his face with your soapy hands and pressed a kiss to his lips, sandwiched between smiles and chuckles.
To say you both looked ridiculous by the end was an understatement, but James couldn’t remember the last time he’d had so much fun at dinner and it became very clear that maybe he needed to come home a little early more often.

Fast foodies know the deal
Ghost x reader
(not proof read, this is just fluff straight from the source
Warnings: none, ovulation mention maybe? Its brought up a single time.)
The craving hits around 3 in the morning, it's ovulation week so the idea of not getting chicken nuggets from the drive through makes you want to cry.
You turn towards the sleeping lug beside you. He's on his back, breaths deep and even. Still as a grave but at your movement he takes the arm you had been using as a pillow to drag you further into his side.
Your Simon, took you forever just to get the man to admit he did more than tolerate you. even longer to admit he cared for you. It took you almost using his toothbrush to realize that the man might actually (gasp) like you. That one you didn't push, figured he'd come to terms with it on his own.
As you look at how peaceful he seems you try to fight the urge, you really do, but as you prop yourself up on your elbows and move closer to Simon's ear you resign to begging his forgiveness later.
"Simon, my baby? You sleeping?"
You wouldn't have known he was a awake had it not been for the lone eye opening to check on you
"Was, love. I was. Whats wrong, bad dream? Y' Can turn on the telly to that duck cartoon or the robots - won't bother me none." He rubs a comforting hand up and down your back, he's being so sweet you really do start to feel bad.
"I want chicken nuggets."
Silence.
Both eyes are open now.
The silence continues.
You smile sheepishly.
Wordlessly simon extracts his arm and turns so his back is to you.
"Nnooooooo! Simon pleeeaase. Pretty please? I want chicken nuggets so bad!"
"Go ahead. keys are on the rack, tanks full."
"Nooo you have to take me! come on baby please, for me?"
"My love. Sunshine. Light of my life. If you're hungry i made a perfecly good roast last night. Heat that up and let a man rest."
"I dont want a perfectly good roast! I want chicken nuggets. And a burger. And fries - oh maybe a shake?" You lean over him, hair purposely hung over into his face. He turns quickly and you're nose to nose
"So youre gonna have me get up at 3 fucking a.m. to get you a greasey, artey clogging, cholesterol raising gastrointestinal disaster of a meal - when we have a perfectly good home made dinner in the fridge."
"....please?"
Silence.
A deep suffering sigh.
An ecstatic squee
"Just get your fuckin shoes on"
------
You lean back over into the passenger seat, simon grumpy faced as you insisted that you should be the one to order.
You pat your thighs in glee as he pulls up to the window, gives you a dirty look , and hands the cashier his card.
The second window delivers your meal and drink quickly, you dig in like a starved animal. You're mid chew when he gives a grunt. A snooty sounding eh hem.
You grin and giggle, slowly airplaning him a nugget.
"Give me the chicken or i'll take the whole box"
You squeak and shove it to his lips quickly. His jaws snap around the nugget and it's gone within a single bite - you retract your fingers, still intact but wet with spit.
You give an 'eeeech' and look for somewhere to wipe your hand.
"Any of this ends up in or on my interior and it'll be your arse."
You roll your eyes and reach in the bag for a napkin, knocking the fries over in the process.
Silence.
The car drifts slowly to the left and is parked along the side of the road.
Not a word spoken.
You try to shove as many back into the carton as possible.
He stares at you.
You smile sweetly at him before leaning over the center console and kissing him. You meet his lips, they're stretched into a dangerous grin.
"Love" kiss "did you" kiss "spill salt" kiss "in my truck?"
You might not know a lot, but you know that voice means you're in trouble, which means it's distraction time.
You continue your sweet onslaught of kisses.
"Thank you for taking me baby, I love you so much. ", another smooch
is delivered.
"Youre my person, my favorite guy, love of my life."
He bites at your lip and you barely manage to slip it from his teeth
"Wanna spend the rest of my life with you, grow old with you"
He grips the back of your head and maneuvers your ear to his mouth, in a deep rumble he asks
"Are there fries on my floor, love?"
The dangerous smile still present.
"No of course not baby! i cleaned those up."
"So my truck is fry free?"
"Well - no didn't say that. there's a, a few under the seat"
He's grappling you into his lap now, the man looks a hint deranged.
"And why, my love, are you telling me about them instead getting them?"
he presses.
"'Cause I - hehe - I can't reach!" You giggle out as his hands slink towards your sides.
He pokes and prods at you, growling not unlike a bear while you squeal and squeak out little laughs.
"Gets a man up at ass o'clock-"
"Oh please, you get up early anyway!"
"makes him drive to get congealed grease-"
"you had a nugget too!"
"Then trashes his truck."
"Oh please it's like a handful of fries, I'll get them, i'll get them!"
He frees you with a huff and you dive back over to your side of the car. You pop open your door and hop outside to get a better angle at the underside of the seat. He gets impatient as you fish around for the last few fries, giving a little hurrah as the last one is snatched.
Clambering back into the truck you grin at him, happy as can be. He hums a short laugh, and you're off to home again.
He makes a beeline for the bedroom and you trot over to the counter to finish your meal, most of it having been shared and eaten in the truck. You sit back a moment to enjoy the feeling of fullness when you see Simon emerge again.
"Bed. Now. Kept me up long enough" he's already on you before you can think of a reply, slung over his shoulder. He makes quick work of getting you both situated in your proper spots.
You're snuggled into his side for the night, full and content. He breathes in deep and exhales slowly. you draw nonsensical patterns on his bare chest, playing with the hair there. As sleep overtakes you, your palm flattens over the spot where his heart resides; and you feel him relax just a smidgen more.

Adore ( 10th/14th Doctor x fem! Reader)
Summary: Sometimes old wounds can bleed again Warning: It's the Doctor who doesn't love him? light angst, slap, not a spoiler from The Star Beast special, heart breaking, broken, fluff, old face, forgiveness and horny cat. As usual, I'm sorry if there are any wrong sentences or typos or grammatical mistakes, please forgive me and again English is not my first language, so I try to improve my language and writing in this way.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
A few years ago. ⏤͟͟͞͞☆
You have traveled with the Doctor since his 9th regeneration. You already know Rose, Jackie, Mickey and Jack. It can be said that you have made many friends plus enemies while traveling with the Doctor.
Although most of his travel can be dangerous but that is not an obstacle for you to continue traveling with him.
You have met Donna Noble. The kind and spitfire lady. Sometimes she can be a protective partner and sometimes she and her sarcasm can be quite dangerous for a certain period of time. But overall, you and Donna are best friends forever and always tease the Doctor with some kind of flirting and name calling such as Skinny Man or pretty boy, making him blush or whine with embarrassment. Sometimes he just brushed it off.
But then, Davros and the Daleks happen. And there goes Meta Crisis Doctor created by Donna accidentally and Rose coming back from the alternative universe. Everything seems to be planned for this thing to happen. Donna suddenly gets knowledge from the Time Lord causing her brain to burn if she 'uses' too much energy and she will die if it continues so the Doctor decides to wiped all the adventures she, you and the Doctor have been through.
Meanwhile you only looked at what the Doctor did to Donna from the Tardis door with eyes glossy with tears. You can't do anything, but you can only see the knotted situation in front of you. You're speechless and just accept fate with open arms.
Once the Doctor sent the unconscious Donna back to her house, the Doctor just kept quiet and didn't say anything. His shirt was soaked with rainwater, his face was broken and sad while his hands were fiddling with the Tardis control.
You don't know how to approach a situation like this so you just move closer to the Doctor and stand next to him and look at the control with a blank face.
A few seconds later you heard the Doctor sniffling trying to hold back his tears and you could feel the Doctor was about to say something.
"I will take you back home. So better prepared with whatever items you have here" Doctor said in his hoarse voice.
You looked at the Doctor skeptically. "what?"
"I'll take you home.. I can't let you travel with me anymore. It's gone too far and I can't let you in danger anymore" The Doctor exclaimed then pulled and pressed some controls there.
The sounds of wheezing and groaning are heard inside the Tardis indicating that the Tardis has started to move. You looked at the Doctor in disbelief.
"no.. Is this because of what happened earlier? hmm? Now you just want to say that it has crossed the line. But tell me, what we went through before didn't it cross the line too? Then why now do you want to take me back?" you argued
"I never asked for this to happen. Please just.. just don't fight and let me take you home. At least you will be safe" Doctor pleaded.
"But I'm already safe here! With you. Please don't take me back, Doctor..please" you begged with glassy eyes.
The doctor didn't say anything and just controlled the control. He didn't directly look at your broken face because he was afraid he would regret the choice he made. At least what he thought was the right choice. You will be safe. No more threats of aliens or disasters.
You scoffed bitterly. "You can't suddenly take me home, Doctor. I know you."
"actually I can. At least you don't have to go through all this if I'm not there" Doctor replied blankly while looking at you.
The Tardis stopped wheezing and groaned indicating that the destination had been reached. You looked at the Doctor with a betrayed face.
You let out a small whimper trying to hold back the tears. "Why are you doing this? We've been through a lot. Why now?"
"because I can't let the people I adore in danger anymore. All this happened because of me. I'm not a hero you can admire and flatter. I failed to protect the people I adore and now see what happens. I can't let the same thing happened to you too. I-" Doctor paused. "- you should go.."
You are stunned. Tears started to fall and fell down your cheeks, wetting your smooth cheeks. You sighed heavily and looked at the Doctor with betrayed eyes.
"if that's what you think is a good thing, Doctor.. Then once my feet step out of this Tardis that means I've lost faith in you, Doctor." you said with a sad tone of voice.
The Doctor just kept silent and turned his gaze to the control without glazing over you for the last time. You were dumbfounded and just nodded in resignation. Without words, you started walking out to the Tardis door with a sad expression on your face. "I just leave my stuffs here then..I don't need it anymore.."
And there you lost faith with the Doctor. You never see Doctor for several years until now.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Present day ⏤͟͟͞͞☆
"no, no! Pablo. You can't mess with the cat next door! I don't want grandchildren yet" you scolded your cat.
Pablo only meowed and he lazily walked under the table and landed there. You sighed. It's been 4 times Pablo tried to 'flirt' with the cat next to your house sneakily and fortunately your neighbor Dhani brought Pablo back to your house and stated.
"Pablo has started to mate with Munchkin this time. Fortunately, I was able to stop him from making me and you unpaid adoptive grandmothers" Dhani said blankly while handing Pablo into your hand.
You scoffed at Pablo and sat down on your sofa and started reading your book. It's been a long time since you stepped out of the Tardis and since then you haven't heard from the Doctor and you haven't talked about it anymore. You have moved on. You have the job you want, a sex-crazed cat and a new lifestyle that you feel quite comfortable with it.
But there are times when you might shed tears silently remembering the adventures you and the Doctor went through together. You feel a little regret but when you remember the thing that made you step out of the Tardis you immediately forget it.
' Forget about it, he might be happy traveling alone. He doesn't want you anymore' whispered the devil in your ear. You just shook your head and focused on reading again.
But your composure to read doesn't last long when you hear a familiar sound like wheezing and groaning in the back yard of your house. You were transfixed and the book in your hand fell onto your lap. Pablo suddenly woke up and hissed towards the door as if angry with the sound.
You then get up from the couch and go to the window facing the backyard. The curtains are pulled aside and there it stands majestically in the middle of your backyard. Blue Box that is bigger on the inside. Tardis. You exhaled heavily and closed your curtains again then walked towards your couch.
You are pensive. Why? why did he reappear today? why now? To apologize? To make up for all the wrongs he did to you? After all this time why did he suddenly appear in your backyard?
You bite your lip anxiously. This cannot be. What else does he want from you?
Not long after, a knock on the door began to be heard at your back door. You are silent. Breath caught in your mouth and your hands started to sweat. It's him.. That's really him. Why does he want to come back to you after he kicked you out of the Tardis years ago? You looked at Pablo who was still glaring at the back door.
You got up and slowly walked towards the back door. When you got there, your sweaty hands slowly reached for the doorknob. Anxiety and nervousness started to exist in your body while your mind screamed not to open the door and face him. But you don't know if he has regenerated or not. You worry about what you expect is him but it's not the same face. Can he be she? you don't know.
The sound of knocking is heard again this time accompanied by the hoarse voice of the same man who kicked you out a few years ago.
"Y/n, are you there?"
You turned the doorknob and faced his face with a nervous face. There he stood with his thin and tall body still the same as a few years ago only his attire was different and not his usual dark brown trench coat and striped suits in it. The shoes are still the same. Right now he has a dark blue trench coat, a white collar shirt along with a striped blazer matching his pants and complete with a gray tie. But what catches your attention is his slightly older face. His hair is still brown and spiky while his gorgeous brown eyes hold emotions that you can't identify whether it's sad or happy.
"Y/n" he whispered your name slowly as if an old memory struck his mind.
You just looked at his face and moved closer to him. Look upon his dark brown eyes with your uncontrollable emotions, you slap his face with all your heart. Angry tears running down your cheeks. He was stunned.
"What are you doing here, Doctor?" you hissed bitterly.
The Doctor was stunned and his face was upset. His cheeks were red with the imprint of your slap on his cheeks.
"I- I came to apologize" Doctor said slowly.
"why now? after you kicked me out of the Tardis.. why now?" you questioned with an angry tone.
"I think you deserve an apology from me after what I did to you.. I'm very, very sorry after breaking your heart and kicking you out of the Tardis a years ago.. I shouldn't have done that to you.. you deserve better than me" Doctor explained with a sad tone of voice.
"oh, you shouldn't have done that to me, Doctor. If you love your friends, you shouldn't do that suddenly and kick them out of the Tardis without any reasonable reason. Sure, you don't want the same thing happened to me. But don't you think that before this I have been through many dangerous things while traveling with you but you never stopped me from traveling with you. Why? why after Davros and the Daleks invasion, you suddenly change your mind and decide to kick me out? Not to mention what you did to Donna?" you exclaimed in your raspy voice. Your eyes were red with tears while your cheeks were wet with tear streaks.
The doctor was silent.
"i just want you to be safe" Doctor whispered but that was enough for you to hear.
"oh, sod off with me being safe, Doctor. I'm tired with your same excuse. I'm tired with this guilty feeling that I always have and think about what I did wrong to you until you kick me out of the Tardis ." you replied
"I don't want you to go through the same thing as our other friends... I-" Doctor paused and stared at your face with a pleading face.
"What is it, Doctor? After all this time without hearing from you and now you suddenly appear behind my house, why now? I'm already happy and moved on with all that then why did you decide to appear and disturb my peace? " tears fell down your cheeks again.
" because I care about you! i can't lose you. I adore you since the moment we traveled with Rose. I don't have enough courage to say this to you because I'm afraid I'll lose the person I love. Because i know.. I know that I will lose the people I love if I keep doing good things. That is my curse to be a Time Lord. I don't want you to go through the same thing as them so what I decided is the most sensible thing for me to keep you safe " Doctor looked at your face pleadingly.
You are speechless. The Doctor loves you. Now you understand. It's the feeling that you don't want to go through losing someone so dear to you so you push them away in the hope that they will be safe from you. In the hope that they can find a better love than you.
"you.. adore me?" you stammered. while holding out your hand towards the Doctor in disbelief.
"i adore you so much. No matter what my face looks like, I will always adore you and I will do anything to protect you. Half of my hearts is with you. I don't care if you lose faith in me but you still need to know that I really adore you" Doctor held your hand and stroked it gently.
You sighed heavily and brought your right hand to the Doctor's cheek and gently stroked his cheek with your finger. Doctor leaning against your palm while closing his eyes trying to feel the texture of your soft skin. It's been a while since he couldn't have physical contact with you and he doesn't know how much he misses the feeling of your skins.
"how many faces have you been through?" you questioned him with a softened voice.
"I've become an obsessed man with a bowtie and fez, I've become a Scottish man and I've become a woman. But then I got this face again out of nowhere. I don't know why" Doctor explained and placed his forehead on yours.
"why? to apologize?" you replied with a hushed.
"probably to admit my love for you" Doctor chuckled lightly.
You chuckled lightly for a moment then closed your eyes and parted away with him slightly. You stare at his face, his eyes and his lips. The Doctor did the same thing to you. And without wind or storm, you both lean and kiss each other's lips passionately and gently.
The doctor put his right hand on the back of your head and his left hand on your neck while you put both your hands on his chest. Both of your eyes are closed tightly to feel each other's presence. And after that, you both part away and stare at each other's eyes with love and fondness in both of your eyes.
"I adore you too, Doctor"

Bucky Barnes - Set of 2 [part 4]
Tumblr media
Summary: Bucky finally decides to apologize.
Tumblr media
part 3 || part 5
masterlist
Bucky raised his hand and knocked, the sound echoing through the quiet evening. The moments felt like an eternity, each second stretching out as he waited for the door to open. You would open the door for him, right?
Right?
Bucky knocked on the door again, straining his ears for any sign of your approach, but he heard none. He could hear your breathing though.
"Doll. It's me. Buck. I... Can I come in?", Bucky asked in a low tone, but you could hear him just fine.
"Come in.", you almost whispered, though it came out more as a wince that didn't go unnoticed by the soldier. Bucky opened the door and looked around, but you were nowhere to be seen.
"I'm in the bedroom, James", you said with a exhausted voice. Were you still mad at him?
The familiar scent of your home washed over Bucky whenever he entered, the mixture of the smell of your soap and the smell of lemon balm tea that you love to drink made him feel... at home. You didn't know how to cook to save your life, but you made tea like he had never tasted before. Bucky and Sam made fun of his lack of cooking skills, but you never came home with an empty bag. There were always some snacks from Sam's house and some treats that Bucky insisted you take. At this point, Mcdonald's was practically funded by you and your last-minute purchases. Bucky frowned at your unhealthy eating habits but you just laughed. Bucky noticed how today the aroma of the tea wasn't noticeable and how he continued to smell this almost unbearable smell of... ethyl alcohol? Why was a culinary disaster like you messing around with ethyl alcohol when he literally had to call the fire department the last time you decided to flambé omelets on your own?
The soldier cleared his throat before entering your bedroom and his heart sank when he opened the door just to see your fragile looking figure sat on the bed. Your eyes were swollen and your lip was split.
"What happened?" Bucky was by your side in a second, his voice tight with worry. "Who did this to you?"
You looked away, avoiding his guilty eyes. "It's nothing, Bucky, just a little accident. I don't want to talk about it. Why are you here?"
Bucky shook his head. "Doll, please. Let me help." And to that you laughed.
"Help?!" The bitterness in your tone was clear. "I don't want your help, James. If that's why you're here for then you can get the hell out of my home."
Bucky didn't say anything back, instead he hurried to your wardrobe looking for your first aid kit. He knew very well where it was after you tried to patch him up every time he went to you after a fight. His wounds always healed faster than your kit, but he liked the feeling of feeling cared for by you. To be the center of your attention at least for a few moments.
You scowled, the grumpiness evident as you crossed your arms. "I don't need your help, Bucky. I can take care of myself."
Bucky ignored your protests and began rummaging through the first aid kit. His right arm trembled as he reached for the first aid kit, a reminder of the violence he had both endured and inflicted. He was so good at hurting, and causing harm... Caring was something he wasn't used to.
He pulled out antiseptic wipes, bandages, and ointment, his movements gentle and precise. He approached you with the antiseptic wipe, his voice soothing. "This might sting a bit, but it's necessary to prevent any infection."
You winced as he gently cleaned your wound and you pretended not to see the worry stamped all over his face. "Can't you be more careful? I'm not an actual doll, you know? I'm not a super soldier like you."
Bucky chuckled softly, his eyes filled with warmth. "There, all done," Bucky replied, throwing the blood-stained tissues in the bag. You murmured a low thanks to which he only nodded too.
"Now, can you please tell me what the hell happened?"
Your face contorted with anger as you decided to let him know. "I was walking down the street, minding my own business, when suddenly a group of people cornered me..", you smirked bitterly. "they said I'm the 'winter soldier's little bitch'", you could see Bucky's face frowning by the second. "I told the woman who said it to kiss my ass and that's when they attacked me. There were 5 of them... they punched me in the stomach, kicked me and that bitch had the audacity to spit on me, Bucky. Can you fucking believe that?"
Bucky opened his mouth but you didn't let him speak. "And you know what the worst part is? There were other people around, and not a single one of them lifted a finger to help. They just stood there, watching as I was beaten to a pulp. How am I supposed to go find a job tomorrow looking like this?"
To that Bucky made a confused expression. "Why are you looking for a new job? What about your old one?"
"I was fired from it, duh!," you explained it quickly. "Keep up, Buck. Now, I've worked my ass off, Bucky. I've put in the effort, sent countless resumes, and gone to countless interviews. And for what? To be rejected time and time again? And you know the worst part? They say it's because of you!", you pointed to him.
"I-I'm so sorry, YN. This is all my fault.", Bucky didn't know what to do. "I never wanted any of this to happen."
"Oh, c'mon!", you raised your voice. "You think I blame you, Bucky?"
Bucky's expression softened, his blue eyes clouded with remorse. "I am responsible, doll."
Your eyes narrowed with anger as you glared at him. "You think a simple apology can make everything better, Bucky? You really don't get it, do you? You didn't beat me up, they did! And you didn't fire me, they did! What I'm most pissed about is the fact that I'm going through all of this shit and you dare to say that I am JUST LIKE THEM, BUCKY! I don't give a shit about what happened, but I'm pissed that you said that you don't need me when I fucking need you right now. I don't give a single shit about what they say even if it cost me my job or my expensive Gucci bag that those fuckers fucking stole from me AFTER they beat me up!"
Bucky was without words.
"SAY SOMETHING, BUCKY!", you yelled at him, your eyes filled with tears. "This is not the time to be the silent friend! I...", you started to sob uncontrollably and Bucky knelt on the ground, standing right in front of you. "Say that you fucking need me. Say that I'm a good friend and that you care about me!", you pleaded, looking into his sad blue eyes. "You wanna show you're sorry? Then stop fucking saying it, stop being an idiot and help me fix it!"
Bucky's heart ached. He had never seen you like this, so vulnerable and hurt. So honest.
He reached out, gently taking your trembling hands in his own. "You're right. I messed up, doll. I never should have said those things. You are not like them, not in any way. You're the best thing in my life."
Tears streamed down your face as you looked into his sincere eyes. "I need you, Y/N. I'm so scared, all the time because I know I don't deserve you in my life, afraid you're gonna leave me..."
He pressed his forehead against yours, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper. "I'm so tired of trying to push you away... I don't know if I can't live without you in my life anymore. I panic even thinking about it." His breath was heavy, his chest rising and falling with the intensity of his emotions. "I can't lose you and you're right, you know? I'm shit when it comes to talking about... things... anything", he admitted. "It's something I need to work on, but I want you to know that me, being here, and you know... doing things... That's my way of showing you how much I love you", Bucky's words were coming a lot faster than he intended he didn't even notice his declaration of love, but you surely did. "So I want you to know that I hear what you're saying, but I still may be bad at that, but I'll use whatever ways I can to show you how much you mean to me, even if it means sharpening your kitchen knives every day or hear you talk all evening about that Edward something in the fucking vampire movie. I'm not good at verbalizing, but I'm very good at being loyal. It’s the only thing I know how to do."

tantrums
pairings: charles leclerc x ferrari sister!leclerc
synopsis: y/n leclerc, the youngest of the leclerc siblings. gets frustrated over the weekend, as her team ignores her suggestions about what they should do with the car. y/n keeps her frustration at bay, but it's difficult when race day comes close and her team is incompetent.
Tumblr media
"fuck!" you said as the car crashes down the barrier, losing its power. "putain!" you hit the car with frustration, you get out of the car and walked away. throwing away your gloves in frustration.
"looks like leclerc got herself another dnf right here! ending in P11, how will this look for the young leclerc?" the commentator's voice blasted through the televisions of the viewers.
you made your way to the garage, you took off your helmet and the angry frustrated look was distinct on your face. "y/n you're up for an interview." your manager informed you whilst handing you a drink.
you took it with an angry look, "jesus christ i just got off a race! can't i take a fucking break for a minute?!" your manager nodded, "noted, i will inform them" "thank you, david." yoh thanked the manager. you felt bad for lashing out on everyone, this weekend has especially been tough on you. today was qualifying and you just ended up on P11, there was so much pressure on being the first female driver to enter f2. but if you wanted to make it into f1, you were going to be professional about it.
the tv in front of you played a replay your crash, in slow motion. she felt bad for herself, you felt like you let everyone down. but what else could you do? when you were always the one suggesting to the prema team on what they could do to improve the car, but they never listen. it's all bullshit.
"this is fucking bull." you say to yourself, looking down at the ground. you felt tears swelling in her eyes, you let them drop.
"hey mon ange," charles' voice was heard, you looked towards where charles was and stood up and hugged him. "it'll all be alright." he reassured you. that's when you let it all out. you sobbed into his chest as you felt charles patted your back gently. "it's all a disaster, charles! everything is falling apart. it feels like it's all coming down to me." you ranted in between sobs, charles frowned at the thought of her sister feeling like this. because he understood what it felt like to be in her situation right now. he pulled away and wiped the tears from her face, and said. "hey, it's not the end of the world, ange. it may feel like everything's falling apart right now, and yeah, i can admit that i feel like that, too. i understand you and what you're feeling right now." his eyes witnessed your teary eyes and continued, "i promise you, this isn't the end. and things will be alright. just have faith, ange! alright? can you do that for me?" he asked you assuringly, and you nodded in reply.
"i'll tell you what, when the race is over. we'll get ice cream? you love ice cream." charles smiled at her, "y.. yeah, i would love that very much." you smiled again, wiping those tear-stained cheeks of yours. it was clear that charles beamed at the sight of your smile, "there's that smile! come on, let's go to maman?" you simply chuckled, wiping the remaining tears off her eyes before speaking, "yes, let's go to maman." you two walked out of the garage, and he lets you change out of your attire and into something comfortable. you two made your way to the ferrari hospitality, where you would be getting ice cream and wait for arthur to finish.
Tumblr media
a/n: THIS IS NOT PROOFREAD!!! i kinda wrote this impulsively because i was bored, and i just got discharged from the hospital. and i promised you guys i would finish this fic for you. thank you for being patient! and i apologize if there are any mistakes in this fic, as it was rushed and not actually proofread. thank you for reading my works! as always, stay safe. <3333

*steeples fingers and stares at my tablet with gimlet eyes*
so. Road to NML. You mean to tell me that the reason the rest of the country, Congress, and the President himself decided to write Gotham off, blow the bridges, and isolate everyone left - all criminals and asylum lunatics and 'undesirables', of course - was in large part due to *checks notes* a satanic rock star's unnatural, irresistible charisma and cult-like media manipulations aimed at dooming the city for his own benefit?
and that in order to find out what actually happens to this villain, who disappears from the Batman and 'Tec storylines...I'd have to *checks notes* read Azrael's event issues?
....yeah, PASS. I only included JPV's book on my reading list when I absolutely had to (*cough* whenever Cass pops up *cough*), so it's off to the wiki summaries for me!
...but okay, on the one hand I find it very funny how thoroughly fandom has excised this demonic media influencer aspect from the collective consciousness of NML - or at least it had never made its way to me via either fic or fandom posts. I know how few people read comics in general in this fandom, and even for those who do, NML is a Beast that only a percentage have tackled (see: me just starting to pick away at it!), so honestly it's not that surprising.
and like it can easily be left out of the story and still leave it coherent lmao!! One can certainly argue things are in fact neater that way; certainly it's not something that would ever be kept (or at least not in the same form) if NML were adapted to another medium, except as perhaps a normal media demagogue (or a montage of them).
but on the other hand...hmm. Thinking about Hurricane Katrina hitting all of six years after the NML storyline played out. And the debate over whether funds should be used for reconstructing New Orleans and other massively damaged areas. And people around the country wondering if New Orleans would or should be rebuilt at all. Or if a vibrant, historic city would just be basically wiped off the map.
I know this is a conversation that happens everywhere and every time a major disaster wrecks a city. There are always huge fights over disaster aid and funding allocations of any kind.
but man. It's something to see this fictionalized depiction in such close proximity to a real life disaster that paralleled it so strongly, and to know that - yes, there are always people who Do Not Abandon Their Homes and work to reclaim them. Yes, massive amounts of aid (federal and otherwise) and federal reconstruction funding did get dispensed. Yes, people cared, and yes, we rebuilt.
so...maybe we do actually need the demonic social media influencer's evil powers in order to comic book logic explain how everyone in the country turned their backs on Gotham and created No Man's Land.
like - no, it's not necessary. the narrative would work without it. and yet...
the premise imagines - requires? - a significantly more callous, selfish populace. Still plausible and compelling! Possibly even stronger as a story since the turnaround for No Man's Land still hinges on winning the country over to open Gotham back up, let aid in, and rebuild. But. You do have to start from - kind of a bleaker take on humanity?
it also kind of reminds me of what scintillyyy pointed out a few weeks ago about Dick killing the Joker, and how actually there's an important comic book superpower interaction going on there, too, with Rancor present massively amplifying Dick's hate and anger to push him over the edge.
but so few people ever notice or remember that and it certainly isn't one of those things that gets transmitted via fandom osmosis. (It was news to me!!) People focus on Dick breaking down and letting loose solely due to being pushed too far.
and that's extremely compelling on its own! It is! Just like the no-satanic-Nick-Scratch NML.
just thinking about fandom's tendency to ellide the supernatural or powered influences that are canonically affecting a situation, in order to explore/focus on more purely humanistic explanations or motivations...that actually end up being darker than what we might reasonably expect from real life, or from a character's typical values.
like it's part wanting to brush off comic book nonsense, part wanting to dive into gritty realism (that's not always realistic), part not having all the information because of learning things secondhand so you construct the most reasonable explanation...idk it's just interesting.
anyway.
more importantly: Dick and Tim are adorable in 'Tec 727-729!! Especially love them trading off yelling each other's names in fear/alarm, and also trading off protecting each other - Dick's "You hurt that kid and you're gonna be eating through a tube!" and Tim's clever solo rescue of a thoroughly captive Dick via clever use of a voice modulator and a two-way radio. The Boys 😊

Whenever you pictured the apocalypse, the end of the world that people often talked about over drunken hypotheticals or PG-13 level horror, you pictured it loud.
Thunderous even, a deafening mixture of screams and cries behind the roar of fire and destruction.
You imagined utter chaos and it was never quiet in your head when you did so, a clear built scenario that you never paid too much mind to, considering the absolute fantasy of it all.
So now that you were almost a year deep into the official end of humanity, you were a bit thrown off by how different it was from your previous assumptions. Sure, there had been fire and screams and it definitely wasn’t lacking chaos, but most days you found yourself in complete ear ringing silence.
The soundtrack of your day to day life rarely extended past birds chirping, the crunch of leaves and loose sticks under your boots as you attempted your way through forest filled terrain.
It’d taken you a while to leave Seoul, first being held back by fear and panic and then not wanting to leave the comfort of your known surroundings.
It was easy to figure out how to survive there after a while, knowing when it was safe to leave your apartment and scavenge the nearby stores and when it was time to draw the blinds and let’s hoards pass by undetected.
You’d sit with bated breath as you listened to soft groans and bodies bumping against your front door as they mindlessly made their way down the hallway and eventually off to find something that had made a noise or distracted them.
When you imagined the apocalypse before you hadn’t really considered the different types that could occur. You suppose chemical outbreak or maybe even a world war could’ve been possible, far fetched but possible nonetheless. Maybe even multiple waves of natural disasters, wiping out cities and land masses in its wake.
Somehow, the dead rising hadn’t crossed your mind.
The creatures that had lingered outside your door all those months ago weren’t like anything you could’ve possibly dreamed up in your anxious mind, defying science and all rationality with their mere existence and hunger based drive.
It didn’t bother you as much now, having spent weeks frustrated over the mechanics of their mobility, the reasoning for their immortality.
Now you felt somewhat close to them, these days hunger being your main reason for existence and almost your entire train of thought from the moment you woke up to the second you fell asleep. This was the same thing that had finally driven you from the city, the stores running dry eventually and leaving you no choice but to turn to nature for nutrients.
You thought about this comparison now as you came to a slow stop, lowering yourself down into a crouch as you listened to the branches snapping off in the distance.
The knife in your hand felt heavier than normal, eyes darting around the forest as you took in your surroundings and made a quick escape plan in case it was more than one undead, in case you needed to run and run fast. You didn’t want to leave just yet, having followed a deer into the woods a few hours ago and you were in desperate need of an actual meal.
Shifting your weight onto your heels, you listened to the sounds come closer and then stop when they reached a bush a few yards ahead of you.
Your head was cocking in confusion, grip tightening around the leather of your knifes handle as you waited for it to continue its approach. The bush rattled a few times, keeping your attention tightly locked on it as you held your breath.
“Put it down.” A low voice was sounding behind you and you froze, feeling the cold metal pressed against the back of your head before you even registered the fact that somebody was speaking.
It’d been weeks since you’d heard something so real, something so human other than your own voice and you felt a sudden wave of dizziness at the fact you were clearly stuck.
For a brief moment you considered spinning in place and attempting to disarm him, relying on your own swiftness taking him off guard and beating his reactionary speed that would cause him to pull the trigger before you even saw what he looked like.
This plan was put to rest quicker than you could think it through, the bush rattling again as another figured pushed its way through the thick leaves. You watched his face pull into a wince when he saw you and you furrowed your eyebrows.
“Hyung.” He muttered and you heard a sigh from behind you, their plan clearly not entailing this interruption. “She doesn’t have anything on her.”
The one behind you didn’t say anything about this, still not taking his gun off you considering the fact you’d made absolutely no move to lower your own weapon like he had originally instructed you. You remained still despite a wave of fear washing over you at the realization you had nothing of value for them to take other than yourself, a sudden reminder that the apocalypse was scary but being a woman was scarier.
“Go.” He was speaking again, still in that low timbre and the boy from the bush winced again, shaking his head like he wanted to deny the order but also taking an instinctive step forward like he was accustomed to taking them.
You couldn’t get a grasp on their dynamic or what they exactly wanted from you, the boy stood in front of you looked nervous like he had a thin idea of what would happen and he didn’t agree with it. You considered for a second if this was a situation worth trying to talk your way out of, eventually deciding to just let things take their course with your limited options.
“You don’t need to kill her, let’s just leave her here and go back.” He was taking another step forward and he continued to look over your shoulder, eyes only darting down to yours for a second in a silent plea for your cooperation. “She doesn’t know which way we’ll go”
“She was tracking.” The boy behind you was immediately noting and you almost cursed under your breath at the fact he was right. If you wanted to follow them you could, their tracks in the dirt obvious to you now that you’d spent months learning the skill.
“Then we tie her up and leave her, but we don’t need to kill.” He was shaking his head in exasperation and you could hear the boy behind you let out a frustrated sigh.
You had no doubt in your mind that if he was alone he would’ve killed you without a second thought, swift and silent in the way he had approached you from behind and keeping his gun firmly pressed against your skull. Despite your confusion you were silently thankful for the others boys resolve, although it came off as weak to you.
“If you’re going to tie me up in the woods you might as well kill me yourselves.” You were speaking for the first time and both boys reacted immediately.
The one behind you was shifting on his feet to stand firmer, pressing his metal into you while the other in front was giving you a helpless look, clearly upset you had immediately undone any progress he was making for your release.
It was silent for a few moments after that as they looked at each other and you wondered what conclusion they were coming to with just their glances. You hadn’t done yourself any favors in your statement but it was true, leaning you defenseless this close to dark was more of a death sentence than a bullet in your brain.
“We can take her back with us.” The boy from the bush was eventually whispering in a last attempt at keeping you alive, hands coming forward in a plea. “Not as a guest just as a prisoner for now, until we figure out what to do with her.”
You almost laughed at him but decided against it although figuring there was no possible way that would be allowed considering two seconds ago they were about to kill you. However the silence, and lack of immediate rejection, from behind you made you second guess.
You were being pulled to your feet before you even could process him moving again. “You’re explaining it to him, I’m not taking the heat for this.”
His tone was harsh but tired and you were startled at the fact he was actually taking you with, even more fear sinking in as you realized the ‘him’ he was referring to meant they weren’t out here alone. For some reason you hadn’t considered them being with a larger group.
The other boy didn’t say anything but you imagined he gave some form of silent acceptance considering the fact you were suddenly being moved forward harshly with your hands held behind your back.
You hadn’t seen the second boy yet but you were unnerved considering he was able to hold both your wrist together with a single hand, still keeping his gun pressed between your shoulder blades as you moved clumsily through the woods.
From their dynamic you had assumed they were alone, your first mistake, and that he was the leader out of the two of them. Hearing his words about explanation you realized the hierarchy wasn’t that simple and there was clearly somebody they both answered to outside of each other.
“Are your hands okay?” You looked to your left to see the kinder boy following you as you walked, staying at your side with his gun tight in his hands now.
The boy behind you sighed at his question and you weren’t sure exactly how to answer. They were hurting and if you saw any way out of this you would’ve complained, made a sarcastic comment that could potentially get your ass kicked if they weren’t feeling up for jokes at the moment.
Instead you offered him a small nod and turned back to face forward so you didn’t trip.
Your options now were to die here and now, act out and become more of a hinderance than their willing to deal with. Or go along with them and most likely end up being killed eventually anyways, maybe after at least one more night of sleep. You kept your mouth shut for the time being and kept walking.
“We should’ve blindfolded her.” The boy behind you was muttering after an hour or two went by and you vaguely heard the sounds of chatter and fire crackling off in the distance now. “He’s going to lose his shit.”
“Maybe we have Jake talk to him first.” The other one was whispering from beside you as the three of you slowed to a stop, accessing the situation before approaching with a stranger in toe.
It was clear to you now that this group was far larger than you had anticipated. They continued to whisper new names and you listened to the overlapping conversations off in the distance, your heart beating so fast it hurt as you skimmed through the different scenarios this could end in.
While they were distracted you were taking your chance, throwing your shoulder backwards to hit the first boy and taking off in a sprint back the way they had taken you from. You ignored his cry of shock and the others frantic plea for you to stop and come back as you whipped through the trees.
The sun was setting now so any tracking skills you had was completely useless, relying on nothing but your feet and the surrounding terrain as you attempted to put as much distance between you and the others as possible.
You could hear the two who had brought you back with them starting to yell out for help and despite cursing under your breath in frustration, you didn’t blame them and saw it coming before you even ran. You were a stranger and now you knew exactly where they were located, going from a hostage to a threat in seconds.
It had only been 20 minutes of running before you had exhausted yourself from lack of pacing, slamming against a tree and bending over with your elbows to your knees to try and catch your breath.
You could hear shouts in the forest behind you along with groans that brought on the harsh reminder you had more than one enemy in the woods. Their yells and loud feet over leaves and sticks were going to continue to bring more of the dead down on you and you were starting to panic completely.
Before you could think about it anymore or start running again, something heavy was slamming into your side and you were hitting the ground hard.
You flew across the leaves and mud before flipping over onto your back with a shout and scrambling away from whatever had rammed you before you even registered what it was. Another boy, not the one from the bush, was bouncing back to his feet considering he’d also hit the ground after he tackled you and was approaching you swiftly.
He looked furious but you couldn’t tell what type of weapons he had in the dark, kicking you feet out as he gained on you and hitting him in the knee.
A groan fell from his lips and he bent to grab his leg as you pulled yourself off the ground and instinctively reached down towards your thigh for your knife, finding the holster empty and immediately remembering it’d been taken from you hours ago.
He chuckled at your obvious dilemma although it lacked humor, an annoyed expression on his face like you were wasting his time. He was suddenly lunging at you again and although you were fast, he was definitely bigger and you let out a scream as he pinned you back down onto the floor.
Your stomach was pressed tightly against the dirt and you felt his knee land on your back, holding your arms tightly so you couldn’t break free from his hold again.
“Stop fucking moving already.” He was grunting from above you as you continued to thrash and attempt to kick at him despite slowly coming to the realization there was no getting free.
“Hyung.” Another voice was screaming out, obviously following the sounds of your cries and screams to find you. You twisted your head against the dirt to see the boy from the bush approaching you with a few others behind him.
“Sunoo go, you’ve done enough.” Your attacker was spitting from above you and you saw a flash of hurt over the others face, immediately taking a step back towards the rest of the boys who were watching the scene with varying expression.
Sunoo, the one who had brought you here in the first place, was clearly experiencing guilt as he looked down at you but you weren’t sure if it was for you or for causing an issue for his group. One of the boys behind him was reaching a hand up to grab his arm, pulling him backwards softly so he didn’t have to watch.
“Heeseung it wasn’t his fault.” You didn’t recognize the boy who was speaking now, approaching from the side, but you immediately could tell from his low timbre that he was the one who had held you at gunpoint. “I fucked up, we didn’t know what to do.”
“You kill her.” Heeseung was forcing the words out through gritted teeth and you were squirming again underneath his knee, the pain in your back excruciating as you started to find it difficult to breathe. “Or you leave her to the rotters, but under no circumstances do you bring her back to camp.”
Sunoo was glancing at the boy who had said something with a furthering expression of guilt and upset considering the fact those ideas had both been rejected by him. You thought about saying something, about pleading for your life or negotiating a deal where they could bring you far away and leave you somewhere you couldn’t find your way back.
You quickly decided against it considering how serious the boy above you was speaking, also piecing together this was clearly who was in charge and was being discussed in the woods previously.
The others boys were watching in the distance and you were trying to count them to see how outnumbered you were, eventually giving up considering how dark it was and how dizzy you were getting from being pinned against the floor. It was definitely more than you could handle and there was clearly no use in trying to out run them again considering how silently and quickly Heeseung had caught up to you the first time.
You hadn’t even heard him before he came out of the trees and it’d only taken him a second to bounce back onto his feet despite the tackle almost completely knocking the wind out of you.
He had you beat in all aspects and you didn’t feel like poking the bear would be the best move if you wanted to survive the night. That might not be up to either of you however considering the low groans that were starting to fill the forest.
Between the darkness and the almost echoing night air you couldn’t quite tell which direction it was coming from and judging by the way the group of boys starting to look around with their weapons raised, they couldn’t either.
You were being pulled up off the floor before you could think for another second and you sucked in a big breath now that your lungs were no longer restricted, immediately faltering when you were aggressively yanked around as Heeseung started to move towards the boys.
He was flinging you around like a rag doll and you heard him give out a low whistle, the others immediately forming a semi circle defense while everyone started to move in sync through the forest back towards where their camp was. It was a practiced routine and you would’ve been impressed if you weren’t technically their opponent right now.
“Pick your damn feet up.” He was speaking lowly into your ear with irritation and you let out a grunt as he continued to drag you.
“If you gave me a fucking second maybe I could.” You were spitting back and thrashing your torso forward slightly so his grip on your arms would loosen, he didn’t say anything about this and just glared at you as he let you get your balance so you could travel back to the base faster. “Thanks.”
He scoffed but didn’t reply to your sarcastic comment, traveling swiftly in silence on guard in case more than one dead came out from the dark woods.
By the time you got back to the camp, the fires were put out and nobody else was around. You weren’t sure if that’s because it was late or because everybody who lived here was apart of the group trailing behind you.
The camp was mainly made up of tents, some smaller like they were only fit for a pair and some large with big wooden stakes to hold them up. There was a few RV’s you could see from where you were standing and some trucks that could possibly run but for the most part they were large rust buckets littered with blood and dirt residue like the rest of the worlds vehicles.
You were being pulled into the largest tent before you could finish your observation and sat down in a chair furtherest away from the opening. You almost made a comment about them thinking you’d run again but you decided it wasn’t the best idea.
Only two of the boys followed you inside after Heeseung, the one from earlier who had attempted to take the blame off Sunoo and another you didn’t recognize.
“So what’s the plan then?” He was the one who spoke first and you glanced at him from under your messy hair, shifting uncomfortably as Heeseung tied your hands behind the chair tightly.
“First this idiot needs to tell me why he brought her back in the first place.” After he was finished and confident his ties were strong he was circling back around and approaching the familiar one, you couldn’t see his face anymore but his back was tense and straight. “What were you thinking?”
He cocked his head slightly but he didn’t seem deterred or intimidated by Heeseung’s demeanor, only breaking eye contact to spare you a quick glance.
You wondered if he was worried you’d give up the fact it was Sunoo who had practically insisted they bring you back. It was interesting that despite telling him he had to be the one to take the heat originally, he had immediately stepped up for the blame once he realized Heeseung was truly angry.
“She’s a tracker.” He brought his gaze back to the other boy as he spoke calmly. “She would’ve found us if we just left her and I saw no other option.”
The boy you didn’t recognize was looking at you now with a curious expression and you turned your head to look at him for a second, not able to get a good read on what he was thinking or what side of this argument he would be on. You wondered if this was the one mentioned earlier, Jake.
“You should’ve killed her Jay.” He was holding your gaze as he said it and you were taken back by his comment, not expecting him to be so blunt and cold.
Jay, despite being the one to originally put a gun to your head, also looked thrown off by this and faltered in his calm expression for a second and he looked at him. “Are you serious?”
“Jake’s right.” Heeseung shook his head, confirming your previous suspicious and Jay let out a small laugh of disbelief, taking a step away from the two boys back towards the entrance.
“I’m just supposed to blow her brains out right in front of Sunoo, just because there’s a slight chance she’d follow us?” He was holding his hands up in frustration and you shifted uncomfortably in the seat again, causing their heads to turn towards you.
Heeseung was approaching you swiftly and you watched him as he took large steps, gasping when his hand was reaching up to grab a solid chunk of your hair in his tight grip. He pulled slightly to make you look at up him, bending slightly so he could hold eye contact with you.
“How many people are in your group?” He was speaking steadily and low but you could feel the warning in his tone.
You were shaking your head in denial and confusion but stopped when he tightened his grip and repeated himself louder and more agitated. “How many?”
“I don’t have a group, it’s just me.” You were wincing and trying to hold his gaze, failing miserably due to the pain and intensity. Your eyes went over his shoulder to look at Jay and you gave him a desperate look. “Tell him it was just me.”
He didn’t say anything and you didn’t expect him to, only asking out of pure panic and as a last ditch attempt to plead your case. You weren’t afraid to die but if you could help it, it wouldn’t be in some random groups tent just because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Heeseung was loosening his grip on your hair as he looked at you but keeping his hand on the back of your head, a silent warning in case you decided to act out in any sort of way. You watched him with your breath held as you waited for him to say something or react in any sort of way. He was just studying your expression like he was attempting to seek out some trace of a lie on your face.
“You can track.” He was stating suddenly but you took it as a question and nodded repeatedly as best as you could with how close he was to your face. “Can you hunt?”
You were nodding again but slower this time, not quite understanding where this was going. He was looking over his shoulder back at the other boys and Jake gave him an incredulous look that only confused you further before you slightly pieced together what he could he implying.
“You’re not serious.” He was laughing but it was devoid of humor, glancing at Jay who was stony faced as he looked at you. “Heeseung, you can’t be serious right now. Let her stay?”
You felt a wave of sickness pass by as he confirmed what you were thinking and you hoped you didn’t look too appalled visibly. You didn’t like this idea anymore than the thought of them killing you, never being in a group by choice. You didn’t necessarily play well with others and certainly not after they held you hostage and tackled you in the woods.
“She hunts.” He said it like it was obvious and you couldn’t deny the fact it was a valuable asset nowadays as human-made resources slowly died out. You’d noticed it yourself back at your apartment, having to venture out further and further every time you went for a run.
“Riki hunts.” Jake was quickly shutting him down and your interest piqued.
“Riki is learning to hunt but it’s not enough.” Jay was adding into the conversation now, still looking at you as he spoke like he had been since he entered the tent. “It’s almost winter and we can’t keep taking these day long trips every time we’re low…. and we’re always low.”
It was silent for a few moments while they looked at each other in frustration and you once again tried to understand the hierarchy and dynamics at play here, falling short every time. Eventually Jake was scoffing and exiting the tent, slamming the flap down as he left in anger.
Heeseung swiped a hand at Jay, dismissing him too and you didn’t miss the small nod he gave you before turning on his heel and following after the other boy.
That left you and Heeseung alone in the tent and he was taking a step away from you finally, watching you curiously as you took a breath finally and held his gaze tight in yours. You felt a dull ache in your back from his knee and your wrist were screaming for release from your constraints.
“Think of it as a trial.” He was turning away from you for a second as he started to talk and you stared daggers into the back of his head. “I don’t kill you now and in return, you don’t do something stupid.”
You watched him as he started to face you again with a stern look on his face, a hint of youth underneath the hardened exterior, and his eyes shot down to your feet and then back to hold your gaze. “Don’t give me a reason to kill you.”
——
You hadn’t spoken to him again but he didn’t seem too bothered by your silence, only muttering small commands as he dragged you out of the tent and towards one of the RV’s.
You were being left there for the night and you tried not to move much after he cut your restraints with a warning full glance, not wanting him to mistake your movements for another attempt at an escape. Despite not wanting to be there any longer than you had to, your chances were slim out in the woods by yourself.
You figured it wouldn’t hurt to stay a few nights, slipping out whenever you had gained their trust and didn’t need to sleep in a guarded metal bucket.
He’d left you with one of the boys you recognized from earlier in the woods, the one who had gently pulled Sunoo back after he started to get scolded. He looked the opposite of gentle now as he glared at you from the foldable table on the other side of the RV, gun hanging loosely on his lap and he watched you.
“Is there something on my face?” You were eventually muttering, not able to stop yourself as irritation bubbled to the surface.
You hadn’t asked to be brought back here, not even remotely putting yourself in this situation, yet everybody was acting like you were purposely causing issues or trying to harm them.
“You shouldn’t be here.” He was shaking his head and the deep tone of his voice threw you off slightly considering how young he looked.
Despite his youthful features, you could tell he was just as weathered and worn by this new world as everybody else was, you included. His eyebrows were pulled tight and his skin was darker in random sections like he had permanent dirt stains.
He was watching you as you observed him quietly, fidgeting slightly the longer you scanned his features and frame.
He was tall, a lot taller than you and even the other boys you’d encountered long enough to get a good sizing up done. You tried not to focus in on the tears in his clothing or the blood stains surrounding his knees and hands, not wanting to make him more uncomfortable than you already were.
“If you don’t want me here, why not just let me go?” You were shrugging like it was a nonchalant thing to ask, feigning ignorance that he clearly didn’t buy judging by his scoff and annoyed expression.
“And get in trouble for no good reason? Are you stupid or do you think I am?” He was letting his gun lean against the table, deciding you were more of a bother than an actual threat.
You shrugged but didn’t talk to him again for a minute of offer him a response to his question, knowing it would just further upset him. Considering the two of you were clearly stuck with each other for the night you didn’t see the point. “I’m Y/N.”
He was sighing as you spoke again, your voice softer than before as you shifted on the uncomfortable half bed Heeseung had sat you down on. You watched him watch you for a few seconds before he finally responded.
“Riki.”
——
You weren’t sure when you had managed to fall asleep, at some point just laying flat on your back and listening to the sounds of the forest off in the distance as they mixed with Riki’s soft breaths on the other side of the RV.
Apparently you had considering the fact you were being shook awake aggressively, jumping up with a start and reflexively striking the person who had woken you.
“Dude what the fuck.” Jake was standing near your bed and shielding his face from any further assault, a pained look on his face. You gave him an incredulous stare at his reaction, not quite sure how he expected you to react to being vibrated awake by a stranger who had encouraged your death last night. “Make yourself useful.”
He was turning and leaving after that quick statement and you groaned, flopping backwards onto the uncomfortable mattress for a second before kicking up and out of the bed, following him outside before he got too far away and you were lost in the camp.
“You’re going out with Heeseung today.” He was explaining as you jogged to catch up with him, trying to ignore the stares and whispers from the other boys as you passed.
“Does that mean I get my knife back?” You were asking him despite already knowing the answer and he shot you a quick glance at the sound of your voice, looking away as you furrowed your eyebrows.
“First piece of advice, don’t ask stupid questions.” He was stepping forward towards a different tent than last night, holding the flap open with a raised arm until you got the hint and ducked underneath it with a muttered word of thanks. He followed behind you and you saw Heeseung and two other boys sat around the tent, gearing up.
Sunoo was there and he faltered for a second when he saw you, another look of guilt washing over his face as his shoulders tensed. You gave him a small nod but it didn’t seem to appease him in anyway.
The other boy wasn’t looking at you, instead focusing on the disassembled gun in his lap as he meticulously cleaned it and cleared his throat. His hands were fast and swift, no hesitation or question in his expression.
“They’re going on a run too.” Heeseung was speaking and you looked up at him to see who he was talking to, surprised to see him already watching you. “We are heading off in the other direction.”
You were nodding and fidgeting in place, not quite sure how to respond to him in a way that didn’t immediately showcase your frustration. You weren’t thrilled about going out into the world with no weapons and no clue if this guy had good intentions, maybe this was his way of killing you as quietly as possible. He obviously wasn’t expecting you to hunt with your bare hands so you weren’t sure why he was bringing you along.
Still, you didn’t bother arguing with him and after a few more minutes of prep you were following him into one of the trucks off away from the main camp.
“There’s a town about an hour away.” He was muttering eventually as he drove, the heavy rumble of the old engine almost putting you to sleep if it wasn’t for the aggressive way the truck jerked every time he amateurly changed gears. “We cleared it for food but at the time we weren’t thinking about other types of supplies.”
You were watching the side of his face as he spoke and he spared you a glance at your silence. “You think there’s still stuff left now?”
“Possibly but it’s worth a shot. There’s a reason you’re out here and not in Seoul just like us, a lower populated town means maybe less survivors passed by when everything went to shit.” He was sighing as he spoke but seemed hopeful as he tried to convince you.
He wasn’t wrong for the most part, you had traveled to a more rural area in hopes for less of the dead and more towns left undiscovered. You figured if this didn’t end soon then there would be no place left that wasn’t completely cleared out.
Heeseung was large and sturdy but you didn’t miss his sunken in cheeks and darkened eyes, clearly lacking vital nutrients and a healthy lifestyle. It wasn’t that jarring considering you hadn’t met anybody who was doing particularly well but being in a group with larger numbers certainly made things a bit more uneasy.
You took a second to study him as he drove, trailing your gaze from his black long sleeve down to his matching cargo pants. His weapon holster was tightly pulled around his thigh similarly to how yours normally sat and you were suddenly reminded how defenseless you currently were.
“How do you know I’m from Seoul.” You didn’t necessarily feel like talking to him anymore than you had to but if you were going to be stuck with him in charge of your life, maybe some small talk wouldn’t hurt.
“Riki.” He spoke bluntly but it answered your question considering the fact you’d spent most of the night talking to the younger boy after the tension between you had calmed down. “Nice to hear you actually talk occasionally.”
“Maybe I’m more inclined to speak with people who haven’t tried to kill me.” You were quipping back and he let out a small chuckle at your sudden change in tone, not taking any actual offense.
You understood why he had done what he did and he knew you understood but that didn’t mean you were happy about the way things had went down and were continuing to go. You didn’t want to be with them and that much was clear but at some point he had figured if you had somewhere to go, you would’ve put up more of a fight.
The truck jerked particularly hard around another turn onto a dirt road and he swore under his breath, yanking at the shift knob until it slightly smoothed out again.
He gave you an awkward glance out of the side of his eyes and you tried not to chuckle at his terrible manual driving skills. You figured eventually everybody would adapt to things they hadn’t needed to before but it was slightly amusing to know most of the world was desperately trying to adjust to things you’d always had available to you.
You didn’t bother telling Heeseung you could drive a stick shift better than anything else, having been taught in one back in high school. He didn’t need to know how good you were at setting camouflaged rabbit traps or that you weren’t half bad with a bow. Your skill set was better kept a secret until you could get as far away from this group as possible.
By the time you were finally pulling up to a small town, if you could even call it that considering it was just a few old wooden buildings and shops in a U shape, Heeseung seemed to have relaxed a bit.
“We’ll be in and out.” He was carefully instructing as you got out of the car and you nodded although you were feeling frustrated about having no weapon. “Stay close by in case you run into an issue okay?”
Despite your upset and undeniable feeling of vulnerability, the run was going smoothly for the most part. You were quick to enter buildings behind Heeseung as he checked for undead and you had actually managed to get a bag full of supplies that could help the group through the winter.
Your guard was lowering slightly considering you’d come across little corpses, the small town seemingly sheltered from the horror the rest of the world had been subjected to.
Neither of you talked much, the mission being at the front of your minds and you were thankful for the lack of distraction.
It wasn’t until you were on your fourth building, some old auto shop with a connecting garage, that you realized how mistaken you had been. Heeseung was still outside the front door, fidgeting with something old and rusty that you couldn’t quite place.
Whatever it was, he seemed determined to unearthed it from the weeds that had grown around it and you impatiently shoved past him into the store. He offered a small scoff as you pushed through but didn’t bother chasing after you or demanding you wait, also making the mistake of being relaxed.
The second you entered the shop and the door closed behind you, a small gap left open considering the door was also subjected to the growing nature that almost converted the entire building, you smelt it.
Throughout the many months you’d been getting accustomed to the apocalypse and all it’s trials and faults, you still hadn’t adjusted to the overwhelming stench that came along with awaken corpses. It was especially murderous when they moved in masses or were left rotting since the start.
“Heeseung.” You were calling out in a hushed voice, slowing down your steps and looking around the store with confusion. You ignored the fact it was the first time you’d said the boys name and how casually it slipped out, listening in to his small hum of acknowledgment from outside. “Do you smell that?”
You could hear him setting down the metal thing he was obsessing over and pushing the door open swiftly, looking at you with a worried expression.
Before he could speak or confirm your senses, you were hitting the floor with a shriek.
It took you a second to realize why you had fallen but the moment you started to think straight again you could feel the tight bony hand wrapped around your ankle, having dragged you down onto the dust covered floor. You sucked in a sharp breath and scrambled back the best you could, kicking at the walker who had gripped your pant leg.
You could see it now, halfway stuck underneath one of the fallen shelves and desperate in the way it’s jaws snapped around nothing.
You were still kicking it when you realized the groans suddenly starting up were far too loud to be coming from the single walker in front of you, understanding with a wave of panic that your shriek had clearly awaken whatever amount of dead it was that was causing such an odor.
“Fuck.” Heeseung was entering the store swiftly and rushing over to you, immediately stomping the rotted skull of the dead that was holding you with his boot.
Ignoring the amount of blood and brain matter that sprayed out on your face at his action, you accepted his hand and let him pull you up and off the floor.
There was no time to dust yourself off as you both heard crashing and groans coming from the connected auto garage, clearly full of dead that had been starving for far too long. They were pouring out in pairs from the small doorway and you and Heeseung stood frozen as you tried to think of a way out of this.
They were coming from both sides of the aisle, filling up the only exit route back to the open door and sufficiently trapping you in the store.
Your fingers were twitching and reaching down to your empty holster, cursing once you remember you had no weapons on you and turning your head to glare at Heeseung who was already watching you with a panicked expression.
His eyes shot behind your head and you almost jumped out of the way, expecting something dead and hungry behind you, before he was reaching a hand out to grip your arm and pull you with him.
You didn’t object despite your confusion and you followed him swiftly, groaning loudly when you understood he was leading you towards the back of the shop where a small maintenance closet was hidden behind some tool carts and brooms.
“Hurry up, help me.” He was shouting back at you as he started to throw things out of the way and you unfroze, helping him clear the way to the door.
You were spinning around once finished to see the hoard closing in on you, a flustered shout pushing past your lips. “Heeseung.”
“I’m trying.” He groaned, his leg propped up against the wall as he kept trying to pry open the old rusted door with all his weight.
Finally, he was stumbling back in your direction and you grabbed his arm to stop him from falling into the awaiting arms of the dead that were now only a few feet from being able to grab onto you. He was immediately catching his footing and ushering you into the closet before closing it tightly behind the two of you.
You sat with bated breath and you waited to see if it would hold, the bodies of the corpses smacking against it as they clawed and practically shrieked with hunger.
Heeseung was holding the doorknob tightly so it wouldn’t spring back open and although it was dark, flashes of light that managed to break past the dozens of shoes outside the door, revealed to you his fearful expression that didn’t help calm your nerves.
You opened your mouth to speak and ask him about what you were supposed to do but his eyes were shooting to your in a glare, his free hand coming up to cover your mouth as he shushed you.
Your eyes widened at the fact he was suddenly touching you, looking down at the hand over your face and then back up at him as he swiftly ripped it away and shook his head, gesturing to the door like you were stupid for trying to make any noise.
He didn’t look at you again as you furrowed your eyebrows in annoyance but nodded in understanding, realizing he wanted to wait until they had settled before showing any sign of life. They could definitely smell you and had no reason to give up, only driven by hunger, but you figured eventually something would come by and distract them.
Which gave you some hope that you could get out of here safe, not wanting to die stuck in a smelly auto shop closet with Heeseung, but you also let out a small sigh knowing you’d be waiting here for a long time.
For the first time since you’d been rushed inside the small space, you took a second to look around. It was tiny, so small that if Heeseung was standing straight and not bending slightly to keep the door held shut, his shoulder would be touching the other wall.
To make matters worse the opposite width wasn’t any bigger, the toes of your boots smushed against his with no room to scoot backwards or make less contact.
Eventually he was slowly letting go of the metal door knob, moving barely an inch every ten seconds as you both waited to see if they were going to suddenly rip the door open and devour you whole. It was clear after a few minutes that it was sturdy enough to keep you hidden behind it for now, you’re not sure you could say the same about the next few hours however.
Heeseung sucked in a much needed breath and leaned backwards against his side of the closet, his knees pointing out towards you in result.
He was watching you with a curious expression and you glared at him in silence, not sure if you were allowed to talk yet or if it would result in his large hand over your mouth again.
“In and out.” He was whispering it so quietly it almost looked like he mouthed it. You could still barely see him but you could hear the smile in his voice as he joked about your failed plan, the light catching his eyes as he peered down at you. “You good?”
You were nodding but shifting uncomfortably, suddenly remembering how close of a call you’d had now that things were calmed down enough for you to think properly.
“It really had me for a second.” You whispered back to him and shook your head, avoiding his gaze as you looked at the vibrating door. “I shouldn’t have let my guard down like that, it was stupid.”
“Then we’re both stupid.” He was muttering back and you tried not to be too curious why he was being so nice to you despite his harsh leadership within the group. “At least you weren’t alone.”
You were scoffing and shaking your head, his boot scooting forward towards yours in a warning to keep your noises at a low volume. He couldn’t exactly make out your expression considering you were placed lower than him and getting less light on your face but he could practically feel the death stare you were sending his way.
“It’s easier to be alone.” You were countering in a stern tone. “If I’m stupid alone I’m just dead but if I’m stupid in a group then I’m guilty. It’s on my hands.”
“It would’ve been on mine if you’d gotten bit back there.” He was cutting you off and you stopped abruptly, looking at him with parted lips. “But the same thing goes for if I die out here, if I don’t get back to camp, back to my family then that’s on me too. Not trying just because you’re alone isn’t an excuse.”
His tone was heavy now and you felt bad for getting him so frustrated considering how carefree he’d been for most of the day, possibly enjoying not having to direct orders and commands for a few hours. You imagine that if he was able to he would’ve stormed off and left you with his heavy statement.
Instead the two of you sat in the silence of what he had said and listened to the groans only a few inches away from your heads.
You were shifting suddenly and he looked back at you in question when you accidentally bumped against his stomach, not having room to move your arms anywhere.
“Is that why you lead them then?” You tried to keep your voice soft and questioning, not wanting him to mistake you for accusatory.
You didn’t want to fight with him again especially since he had saved your life not too long ago, potentially twice with his quick thinking to get the two of you into the closet.
“It just happened.” He was whispering back and his tone was slightly guarded. “We knew each other before and when.. everything went to shit they came to me one by one.”
“I was scared shitless, I mean sure I’ve chauffeured them around for a few years and I’d handle calling in our takeout orders but now I’m supposed to keep them alive?” He sounded flustered and you listened to him quietly, letting him talk.
For some reason it hadn’t occurred to you to wonder how long they’d known each other. They seemed comfortable and they worked fast and efficiently like they had experience with it but you’d seen similar things in groups who met only at the beginning of all this, being forced to learn how each other works to survive.
You briefly remembered Riki saying something about high school and Jay but you didn’t fully make the connection, maybe you just didn’t want to.
But listening to Heeseung so earnestly talk about the responsibility he carried as the leader and the eldest you felt a wave of understanding, immediately followed by the desire to run far far away from the inevitable care that comes along with a group this tightly knit.
“We left Seoul the first week in Jungwon’s old van.” He was continuing on and when you raised an eyebrow in question he was nodding in realization. “That’s the one who was cleaning the gun, he’s out with Sunoo right now.”
“How many more of you is there?” You hoped he didn’t think you were asking him in an attempt to get information on the group that would assist you in your escape, although you halfway were.
“Just Sunghoon, I don’t think you met him.” He was mumbling and you thought for a second before shaking your head.
That made a total of seven and a wave of fear washed over you at the thought. As of now you were leaving no matter what and as of now they weren’t going to let you just go easy, meaning in some form this was your opponent. Seven men who were capable and seemingly willing to kill you if necessary with the exception of one or two.
Heeseung’s silence made you think he knew what you were thinking and he shifted so he was standing again, no longer leaning against the wall.
This put him even closer to you and you held your breath at the proximity, only letting it out in a moment of shock when his hand was coming up suddenly and touching your face like it had earlier.
You were jumping backwards, at least as far as you could in the tight space and he was shushing you with furrowed eyebrows and a finger to his lips, glancing at the door in worry and then back to you as he continued what he was originally doing.
It took you a few seconds to remember the walker he had stomped on, to remember the blood and rotted skin that had splattered all over you.
Heeseung was gently wiping your face off with his hands, using his sleeves at times for the areas that were particularly covered. You felt your cheeks flush in embarrassment, his large hands stiffening for a second when he realized how awkward this situation was.
He was taking his hands away swiftly and clearing his throat, shuffling backwards again and avoiding looking at you. It was silent for a few minutes and you felt suffocated by it.
“You didn’t lose anybody.” You broke the thick air by speaking again and he flinched before looking down at you. “Since Seoul, did you lose anybody?”
His eyes flashed with something heavy and sad and you imagined he was thinking about his family, slightly curious why he had left without them and what had happened before the other boys showed up alone at his doorstep. Then he was shaking his head to answer your question.
“Then maybe you’re more fit to lead than you thought.”
——
“Was he scared?” Riki’s voice was ringing in your ear again and you groaned softly, leaning back on your pillow and trying your hardest to ignore his constant questions. “I mean, I’ve never seen Heeseung scared. What was it like? Did he cry a little bit?”
After a few more hours had passed in the closet, your suspicion was correct and eventually something passed by that caught a few of the undeads attention. The stragglers had wondered outside the auto shop and the rest immediately followed the noise and movement.
Heeseung and you had waited another half an hour just to be sure before slipping out finally, backs aching from standing straight and rigid for so long.
You’d gotten in the truck with the supplies you found earlier in the day and headed back to the camp, not wanting to risk your luck any further and needing to beat the night as the sun slowly set.
The boys had affectionately greeted the two of you when you arrived, or more so Heeseung as you hovered awkwardly behind and watched them all. You saw a boy you didn’t recognize and figured he was Sunghoon, finally having faces to all the names.
They all carried different expressions of worry and upset and you watched them scan his skin for injuries or scratches, eyes crinkling with relief when they saw he was safe and returned to them. Your heart felt heavy and your stomach turned as you watched the display of care and love towards each other.
You’d caught Jake’s eye for a second and he narrowed his at you, causing you to swiftly give him a nod and slink back into the RV you’d been assigned to.
The same RV that you were now groaning in as you listening to the young boy, the youngest boy as you had found out yesterday, talk your ear off with questions about what it was like to be stuck in a closest with his hyung.
“He cried like a baby.” You were muttering and he laughed softly before shaking his head, able to tell you were lying to him. “I’m serious, my shoulder was soaking wet by the time we got out of there.”
“You know you’re funny when you’re not glaring at me.” He was remarking and you scoffed softly. “The others don’t joke around anymore so I don’t either.”
He sounded younger than he looked when he said it, voice steady like he didn’t even process the weight and sadness of what he was saying. Maybe he’d already started to forget what it was like to be a teenager with no responsibilities.
For a second you zoned out picturing him before the apocalypse, a younger Riki wearing a school uniform and excitedly chatting with the older boys. Maybe he was shy or maybe he was just as talkative and mischievous as he seemed to get the few times you’ve talked to him.
You were abruptly broken out of your daydreams when you heard shouts coming from outside the RV, immediately sitting straight up in the bed and locking eyes with Riki as his widened in fear and concern.
As far as you knew, everybody had turned in for bed. Heeseung didn’t like any one leaving their tents after dark, a heavily suggested curfew seeming to be followed religiously and you couldn’t think of good a reason for the boys to be disobeying this.
You were standing up swiftly and making your way towards the small door, being stopped by a hand wrapped around your arm.
Riki was shaking his head with a panicked expression, pushing you back into the RV. “What are you doing? You can’t go out there.” His voice was urgent and he took a step between you and the door.
His protective expression was making you feel sick and your expression turned stony, moving to push past him but stopping as the door was flung open without either of you touching it.
Sunghoon was stood panting, looking up at you guys from the surface level. He took a step up the RV’s metal steps and glanced behind him with a hard look on his face. Now that the door was open you could hear the shouts louder and also the groans that accompanied them.
“We have to go.” He was rushing out and your mouth parted slightly, looking between him and back to Riki who Sunghoon had been watching since he opened the door.
The younger boy was shaking his head as his shoulders dropped and you felt a wave of upset and guilt for him wash over you, knowing this had been his only home for the past year considering the fact he wasn’t permitted to runs as often as the older boys.
“I’m sorry Rik, there’s too many we don’t have any choice.” Sunghoon was shaking his head sternly but his eyes were soft as he looked at his friend. “You need to pack and we have to go, both of you.”
His eyes moved over to you hesitantly and he lost the affection in his gaze, you didn’t take any offense to it and nodded your head as he turned to rush back to help the others buy some time. You touched the younger boys arm and he jumped slightly before looking down at you with a heavy expression.
“Let’s pack your stuff okay?” You whispered and your unusually gentle tone just made him feel worse, curling in on himself slightly as he nodded and started to grab what little belongings he had scattered around the RV in an attempt to make it feel more like a home.
He was done quickly and you were getting ready to exit the vehicle and join the others when he was grabbing your arm again to stop you.
You almost turned to scold him for wasting time and not letting you go but stopped in your tracks when you realized he was holding a gun out in between your bodies, gesturing for you to take the weapon.
You considered saying no for a few seconds, knowing Heeseung and the other boys wouldn’t be happy with you for accepting and most likely would also scold Riki for giving it to you in the first place. The need to survive overtook this and you took the gun from him, nodding in appreciation.
The second you stepped outside you understood why the only option was to abandon the camp. The dead were pouring in from every side of the forest, their groans mixing together and attracting more and more every minute that passed.
Your eyes were darting around try and spot the other boys but you couldn’t see them in the chaos, feeling frustrated and panicked as you heard Riki’s breathing getting more strained from beside you.
Eventually you spotted Sunoo at the same moment he saw the two of you as well as he was rushing over to you with a serious expression, eyes bouncing around to check if it was safe to stop and talk.
“They’re out past the river.” He was explaining swiftly and you nodded despite having no idea how to get there. It seemed to make sense to the two boys however because they were quickly turning on their heels and disappearing into the woods, looking back a few times to make sure you were following behind them.
Sunoo was running ahead of both of you and your heart clenched watching him take out a few stragglers that were making their way towards the over run camp, his knife effortlessly going into their rotted skulls as he kept rushing through the woods.
Eventually the groans got quieter and you could hear the light splash of a stream, catching sight of the other boys huddled together before the saw you.
“They’re here.” Jake was announcing when he picked his head up and saw the three of you approaching. He stood up and rushed to meet you halfway, checking Sunoo and Riki for injuries before his eyes landed on you.
His gaze trailed down to the gun clenched in your hands and for a second you thought he’d take it from you, demand you leave or maybe try to kill you here and now so they didn’t have another thing to worry about. Instead he took a step closer and briefly scanned over your body, similar to the way he was doing to the others.
“I’m okay.” You breathed out and you weren’t sure why you said it, just wanting to get his concerned look off of your frame as soon as possible. He nodded his head but lingered on your for a second before turning and walking back over to the others.
You followed behind him to see what the boys were surrounding, watching as they all pointed at a crinkled map and spoke in hushed voices. They carried bags on their shoulders and you vaguely noted that Jungwon’s was full of the guns he was always taking such intense care of.
“We’ve been that way man.” Jay was sighing and shaking his head and he pushed Jake’s finger away and moved it further down the map. “From here to here it’s not clear, dead ends or there’s just nothing left.”
“Well we can’t go north.” Sunghoon was countering and you could see a large red X over the area he was referring to. You wonder how long they’d been planning an escape plan with no luck.
You listened to them talk for awhile with a sick feeling in your stomach, wondering if you should help and throw out the idea that was brewing in your mind. On one hand this was your chance to escape considering they had no home to even protect anymore, you could sneak out or hold the gun in your hands to one of their heads until you were far enough away that they wouldn’t follow.
This could be your only opportunity to be back on your own, not owing any sort of debt to a group that was dealing with their own conflict.
Riki was looking back at you suddenly with a worried expression and that thought was immediately out the window as you let out a small sigh, upset at yourself for what you were about to do, before stepping up towards the boys.
“I know a place.” You were rushing out and they all turned to look at you. Heeseung’s eyes were softening at your sudden want to help and you nodded at him. “It’s a few hours south but I stayed there for a few weeks before I kept moving away from that area.”
“You think it’s still there?” Jungwon was asking, his first time speaking to you directly since you’d arrived to their group. His voice wasn’t as harsh as his glare though and he seemed genuinely curious, not suspicious of your motives.
“It was gated.” You shrugged and bent down, bumping into Heeseung’s side and causing him to sway in his crouched position. You were touching the map and felt relieved to see the area you were referring to wasn’t crossed out or circled. “It might not be but it’s worth a shot. Plus we don’t have many options.”
“We?” Heeseung’s voice was soft from beside you and you turned your head to look at him, flushing slightly when you realized how close to each others faces you were.
“Yeah.. we.”

prompt: ruby (discord drabble) word count: 1,009 rated: t tags: doctor who au, eddie is the doctor, first meetings notes: this prompt only actually fits if you've watched the most recent doctor who lmao but whatevs, enjoy! (you don't have to have seen the ep for this to make sense though)
It's not like he goes looking for trouble. He never has – he’s never had to. It just finds him, whether he wants it to or not.
It’s so much a part of his life that it actually never even really occurred to him that he’s exceptionally accident-prone until he met Robin and she started complaining about the week from hell she’d been having lately.
“Like what?” he’d asked, only half paying attention as he fiddled with the button on his ice cream scoop. It snapped back then jerked forward, sending the scoop ricocheting out of his hand and into a vat of dirty dishwater. “Fuck.”
“Like, I stubbed my toe this morning,” Robin had said. “Knocked my head getting out of the car, slipped on the floor on my way in and almost had a total wipe-out, bit my tongue during my lunch break earlier.”
And as she went on, describing a thing that basically sounded like Steve’s typical Tuesday afternoon, it started to sink in that – okay, so maybe he actually does have a few more accidents than the average guy. But what was he supposed to do? Walk around in a suit made out of bubble wrap every day?
Impractical.
It’s a year or two later and two or three more fights lost when it finally fully smacks him in the face that he’s basically a walking disaster waiting to happen. Or rather – doesn’t smack him in the face, in the way that falling objects always seem to.
It happens all at once, when he’s walking down the street on his way home from work one afternoon in early January. He hears a crack from overhead and looks up, just in time to see a branch falling with startling speed directly at his face.
He gives a shout, arms coming up to cover his head as he braces for impact, but then it just – doesn’t come. He cracks open an eye and then another, and then he slowly lowers his arms.
“Nearly got yourself killed,” says a voice from his left. He jumps. “That happen a lot?”
There’s a man leaning against the fence at the edge of the sidewalk, hands in his pockets. His hair is long and dark, and there’s a battered leather jacket wrapped around his shoulders. He pushes off and takes a step toward Steve, and Steve takes one back.
“Where did the branch go?” he asks, glancing up. Because it’s not attached to the tree anymore, but it’s also not embedded in his skull. “And where did you even come from? You weren’t there a second ago.”
The man hums. “Funny you should say that.”
Steve frowns. He doesn’t like the way the guy’s looking at him, eyes narrowed like he’s trying to figure him out.
“Say what?”
“A second ago,” the man says under his breath. He reaches out and pokes a finger into Steve’s chin, and Steve flinches away on instinct. “You really do have perfect bone structure, don’t you? All square-jawed movie star mystique.”
“Okay,” Steve says, taking another step back. “Look, I don’t want any trouble, man. Just – thanks for… whatever you did. I’m just going to go on my way.”
He gets a few paces away before he hears the man’s voice from behind him again.
“I was here a second ago,” he calls. “You’re the one who wasn’t.”
And that makes just enough not-sense that he falters in his steps and turns back. The man’s leaning again, this time against the side of a big blue box that Steve hadn’t noticed until now.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“It means ,” the guy says, grin flashing. He kicks his heel against the base of the box, and the door creaks open. “Come with me if you want to live.”
Steve makes a face. “Isn’t that a line from The Terminator?”
The guy frowns like he’s thinking, then he nods slowly. “Maybe,” he admits. “Even better if it is, though, because whatever’s after you is about as dangerous as Arnold Schwarzenegger was in that movie.”
“Wasn’t he the good guy in the end?”
“No, are you serious?” the guy asks. “Have you even seen the movie?”
“Of course I’ve seen –”
“Stop,” the guy says, holding up his hands. He takes a step closer to Steve. “Do you hear that?”
And Steve… does. Actually.
It’s quiet – so quiet he probably wouldn’t have noticed it if it hadn’t been pointed out to him, but it’s there, a quiet scuttling sound like when you hear a mouse in the middle of the night but can’t tell exactly where it’s coming from. But they’re outside, standing on the street in broad daylight.
The man’s hand wraps slowly around his wrist and grips tight, and Steve jerks in alarm. He hadn’t noticed how close they’d drawn together as they listened until now, and before he has a chance to wrench himself away, he’s being dragged in the direction of the weird box on the curb. He considers yelling for help – anti-kidnapping support? something? – but before he can get his lungs together, he finds himself being shoved through the open door, stumbling over his feet and screwing up his face as he braces again for impact, expecting to smash into the opposite wall of the tiny space.
But that doesn’t come either, and when he opens his eyes this time, he sucks in a breath so sharp he nearly chokes on his own throat.
The guy slams the door and surges past him up the walkway – there’s a walkway – toward the middle of the open, cavernous room, where there’s some sort of circular control panel covered in lights and buttons and something that looks weirdly like a toaster? And he’s muttering to himself, saying nonsense under his breath as he starts poking buttons and flipping levers, and then the whole room gives a jolt, and Steve grabs onto the railing for balance.
The guy looks up. “Pretty cool, huh?”
And Steve, breathless, has nothing to say other than,
“What the fuck?”

𝕬𝖚𝖙𝖍𝖔𝖗: Is this rushed? Perhaps short? Yes, yes it is. And that’s okay.

TW// Minor Blood, Angst? Yandere thoughts?
Tumblr media
The town was a lot more quieter today. There was no one in a rush, no Karen wanting someone to be at her beck and call. Even the Astartes that were in town were gone, probably just passing through.
It was like this day was either made for a nap, disaster, or surprise for how quiet it is, and I don’t know if I like those odds. Considering how… sneaky Hydra could be.
I wonder if that’s a trait of all Alpha legions? Being all sneaky, and tricky like? Cuddly too.
Though, sometimes… I also wonder if anything that happened that night was real? If those events really happened from the next, and next. God, I can feel my face going on fire just thinking about it, but I almost dread it too.
Did Hydra think it was real? Was it real? What if he actually found someone else that he was actually bonded to?
I sat in my car a little while longer after that. That thought hitting a little harder than expected.
What if he found the person he was actually bonded to?
I know they supposedly couldn’t bond, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t. They were Astartes, another being capable of feelings, and desires. They are sentient. Not just some pet.
With a heavy sigh, I prepared myself to go inside my own home before exiting my car. Trying to rid of those lingering thoughts.
It was eerily silent inside the house too. Nothing made a sound. No movement was being made beside my own.
“Hydra?” I called out, expecting some noise of movement as I made my way through the house. Looking for the big, bright blue armor.
Finding nothing in the living room. I went to the kitchen next, finding it untouched too. I looked at the spare bedroom, laundry room, bathrooms, even closets, finding nothing. Not even the hint of his aquatic scent.
Confusion, and worry went through my brain as I headed up to check the last two rooms I had yet to check. The first room being the streaming room, which looked pretty regular itself.
My bedroom was a whole different story. Blankets were ripped, and thrown everywhere. Curtains also ripped, and hanging out the broken window. Closet door thrown open with the other half barely hanging on with clothes spreaded everywhere. It was a absolute mess.
“Hydra!” I nearly cried, seeing him hanging half out of the closet. His own blood running from his wounds that penetrated his armor.
Rushing to side. I wanted to touch him, but at the same time I didn’t want to hurt him anymore than he already was.
“Hydra?” My voice came out weak, my hands coming up to his helmet that no longer held the powered glow to them. Not wanting to believe such a horrid thing that could happen to him.
Warm tears ran down my cheeks. Form wrapping around his helmet. I didn’t care if I heard a much louder noise within the room. I didn’t care if it stalked closer. I didn’t care if it did anything. I just wanted my Hydra back. I just want him back.
I woke up with a start. Tears running down my cheeks as quickly I sat up in my bed. Heart beating heavily, the feeling of heavy dread filling my chest. The dream- nightmare replaying inside my mind while I registered where I really was. No messy room greeting my sights.
Wiping my tears off with the palm of my hand. I threw off my covers and hopped off my bed. The cold, midnight air bitting at my exposed skin, giving me goosebumps as I made my way down stairs to the kitchen. Thinking a good glass of water would calm me down.
Taking a glass out of the cabinet. I took some ice cubes from the freezer and put them into the glass then poured some filtered water into it. Not the “dirty” water from the tap.
I could still feel my heart beating in my chest as I leaned on the island in the kitchen. Occasionally taking sips the cup with my eyes closed, still a bit sleepy.
The events of the nightmare were slowly fading, but still felt very vivid to remember. It felt so real. So…there. Unbelievably true even. Ugh, just barely thinking about it gives me a migraine.
Rubbing my eye with my hand. A quiet coo came from the other side of the kitchen. My eyes opening to find Hydra walking in. Leaning over slightly to get through the archway.
Another coo, Hydra kneeled down to my height, his helmet lightly touching my head. The glow of his red visor shining brightly against my skin.
I stayed like that for an awhile. Basking in his safe return. His presence calming my poor, human heart down.
He sensed her. He knew was close, and he bet she knows too. She was hiding from him after all. Probably in plain sight too.
A mix between a growl, and a rumble came from his throat. Scaring a flock of birds from their trees.
He was getting frustrated, but he was a warrior of patience. He could wait for an millennia if he had to. Or perhaps, he could switch his tactics?
Yes, that might work.

hiiii!!!! if you’re comfortable with it, do you think you could do sum hurt/comfort hcs about getting into an argument with itto, and the aftermath? maybe he says something he doesn’t really mean and feels awful about it or something? my brains just been buzzing w this scenario and so i’m curious on what you think :)) thank you so much, i love your work btw :)
hurt/comfort meaning my worst fear but i tried my best pensive emoji :(
Arataki Itto:
Tumblr media
it's quite unusual for itto to feel genuine anger or even worse, say things in the heat of the moment because of it - things that he's had in the back of his mind, that were never supposed to be said out loud.
it truly has to be a day, when everything goes wrong - whether it's actual trouble or a fight with his gang members - itto would never lash out purposely or take his anger out on you, but when you scolded him for his childishness that day, it broke camels back.
itto stopped as soon as he saw you tear up and wipe your eyes; his breath hitched in his throat, the look of regret on his face took over and suddenly - no words could go past his lips, despite his mind spinning and trying so desperately to find something.
for the next few days, itto is nowhere to be seen - neither alone, or with his gang - he's actually silently processing past events at grandma oni's home. the scarlet eyes stare at the floor helplessly, switching between determination, wanting to do something to make it up to you, and sorrow - the thoughts whispering that you won't forgive him anymore; the guilt of bringing up your worst insecurity weighed on his shoulders more day by day, forcing his eyes to tear for hours - only to harshly scold himself and thinking how undeserving he is for crying, when it was you who truly got hurt.
the moment Grandma Oni asked itto what happened - itto told her everything, but declined her help; it was his responsibility to fix this, and finally, finally - he felt the strength to do it. the same day, Arataki Itto ran past the city to complete the first mission of his "Please, I'm begging you to forgive me sugarplum" plan.
He spent an entire day making the most beautiful bouquet of flowers that he laid his eyes on - dendrobium, sea ganoderma, fluorescent flowers he found on the way, hell, on his way back he probably got scammed by a fontainian merchant for rainbow roses with his few mora left. also, probably got slightly hurt by specters while collecting sango pearls to use it as finishing looks for some flowers.
what's next? a letter! except it's a letter from itto, and wording what he truly feels is worse than getting beaten up by kairagi. it's actually worse than climbing up inazuman hills and fighting whoever "wanted to take his flowers because he was first." either way, after spending hours, itto wrapped the letter in an envelope, careful not to tear the paper with his long nails.
since he had the spare key, he decided to bake you a cake at your place while you're at work. you can probably guess, we're about to witness a disaster.
is itto good at cooking? mm, yes, but baking... is a different story. let's say, at least you're impressed at how much you can mess up a cake, after seeing a green blob on a baking tray and depressed itto crying into your wooden table.
"m' sorry sunshine, i tried, i really really tried, but the greatest arataki itto has been defeated by a cake. A CAKE!" itto sobbed, "after all my hard work! listen, maybe i added too much flour and i almost grilled the onikabuto i caught for you, and the cinnamon that spilled in the bowl was a liiiiitle bit too much, but-"
before he could continue, you made a decision to cut his rambling short with a kiss.
after you pulled away, he cupped your cheeks and nuzzled his forehead into yours; "im sorry sugar. i really am, i-" itto let out a sigh, "i shouldn't have said that. i don't mean it. i didn't mean it. i was frustrated, but it was wrong of me to take it out on you."
the oni was prepared to hear rejection, but feeling you embrace him, he hugged the life out of you back, placing small kisses on your shoulder and twirling you in the air, before yelping and falling on the floor from his injuries.
well, at least you liked the flowers.
please treat his injuries with cute bandaids.

Hyper aware-
Eddie munson x afab!reader.
Summary: when you get overstimulated Eddie knows just how to handle it.
Wc: 1k
Warnings: none! Pure fluff! Reader is ND but its not specified. Reader used she/her but its only used like once. Reader also has a tendency to hit people if touched without warning while overstimulated so thats mentioned, weed mentions, kinda established relationship? Its not mentioned until the end really.
A/n: so this is actually based on true events that happened to me in one of my classes lol, obviously without the help of Eddie and it turning out very differently i got inspiration to write this because im still extremely overstimulated and this helps for some reader lol.
Tagging: @niceboyeds
Eddie knew something was wrong the second you walked into class. Your posture was rigid, your hands fidgeting with your necklace and you looked around the room searching for him.
When you finally spotted him you rushed over to his side, putting your backpack down and moving so you were closer to him.
“Hey, you okay? What’s wrong? What happened?“ he questioned you in a hushed but worried tone.
“I became hyper aware of everything in my last class- the electricity, the pencils moving, the textbooks being flipped, even the fabric on my fucking hoodie and now im really overstimulated” everything fell out of your mouth at what felt like 20 miles per hour.
Eddie gave you a sympathetic look, nodding in understanding.
“Where’s your walkman? Don’t you usually use it to keep this from happening?” He was genuinely curious, that thing practically never left you, carrying it around at all times just to feel safe and prevent this exact moment from happening.
“Don’t have it, I lost it and have absolute no idea where it is.” You run a hand through your hair, you were becoming more on edge by the second, the sounds of your classmates talking becoming more like nails on a chalkboard then actual voices.
“Do you wanna use mine? Our tastes are pretty similar and I’m pretty sure I still have-“ Eddie shut up the second he saw you physically recoil at the thought of using something that wasn’t yours.
”Okay, Do you wanna stay here, try to tough it out or do you wanna go back to my van and I can take you back to the trailer?” Eddie phrased it like a question but you knew the actual meaning behind the options. Do you want to wait until the tears start rolling or prevent it?
You shook your head “I can tough it out, i spent an hour like this already whats a few more?”
Both of you knew you wouldn’t be able to, this class specifically always made you overstimulated on a good day, already being overwhelmed and stimulated was a recipe for disaster. Yet you were too stubborn to admit your own limits.
Eddie rolled his eyes, hands already on his keys, he knew it was only a matter of time until you broke.
You we’re about fifteen minutes into the class when you started to become more restless, hands running through your hair, leg bouncing up and down, hands fidgeting with anything they could.
The teachers voice was practically nauseating, you could feel tears start to prick at your eyes, but you willed them back.
Eddie looked over to where you were sitting, a sympathetic expression painting his face.
“You alright, sweetheart?” He whispers to you, reaching out before stopping himself, you hadn’t given him the okay and he really didn’t feel like getting you sent to the principals because you reacted and socked him in the face.
You went to nod- then shook your head quickly, tears finally breaching your waterline and rolling down your face. You quickly wiped them away, but that was enough for Eddie.
“Alright, lets go, you need to calm down.” He decided for you, knowing you would be stubborn and try to push yourself. “Can I touch you? Or is that too much right now?” He checks in with you, he has this exact procedure down as if it was an evacuation drill.
“Just grab my hoodie…skin to skin is too much” Eddie nods in understanding, grabbing a fistfull of the fabric surrounding your arms. He stood the both of you up, and as the teacher for this class opened their mouth to speak Eddie cut her off.
“Excuse us, she’s overstimulated and really need to leave” and with that Eddie ushers you out of the classroom and towards the parking lot.
Tears rolled down your face faster than you could stop them, the only tell tale sign you were crying as Eddie pulled you down the school’s hallway was the occasional sniffle.
Once you reached Eddie’s van he unlocked the car and pulled the backdoors open. You quickly hopped in, pulling at the fabric of your hoodie as you did, Once you were sat and situated Eddie followed you in.
The back was cozy, a space Eddie designed to help calm you down in situations like these. He had managed to save up enough to put a mattress in the back with a bunch of pillows, blankets and stuffed animals.
“You want the other jacket I have in here, sweetheart? I know you hate that one in episodes.” You nod, finally pulling the hoodie off your head and throwing it somewhere to the side.
Eddie handed you his hoodie that he kept in the van for you, watching as you pulled it over your head and letting the familiar and comforting scent of Eddie surround your senses. He smiled as soon as he saw you visibly relax.
Eddie moves so he’s able to turn the van on without leaving you, he reaches for his cassettes before remembering why you were there and turning to you slightly.
“Music or no music?”
“Music…but on a low sound” Eddie nods, entering a random one into the player and turning the volume down enough it won’t make your problem worse.
“You starting to feel better?” You hum and lean your head on his shoulder, before flinching away and glaring at his clothing choice.
Leather and denim, your worst enemy.
Eddie chuckles, quickly discarding his jackets and throwing them in the same direction of your original hoodie.
“Sorry sweet thing, forgot you hate those textures.” You smile appreciatively, leaning on him once again.
You and Eddie stay like that for a few minutes before you’ve calmed down enough to recollect your thoughts.
“Thank you, eds.” You mumble, feeling your eyes droop suddenly, events like these draining you, feeling mentally and physically exhausted.
“For what?” He cautiously wraps a arm around you, when you don’t react he relaxes and pulls you into his chest.
“For putting up with me, when i'm overstimulated or have anxiety attacks.” Eddie made an ‘ah’ noise, you were always the apologetic type, even when you didn’t mean to be.
“I’m your boyfriend and best friend sweetheart, kinda my job.” He smiles, kissing your head.
“I know! But you could’ve left by now! Or driven me back to the trailer before going back to class!” Eddie rolled his eyes, you had friends and exes that have done that, leaving you to your own devices which in the end made things worse.
“Yeah no, this is way more fun.” You scoff and slap his chest.
“Is not!” Eddie barks out a laugh at your reaction.
“Yeah your right, it sucks, but I rather be comforting you then listen to some old lady talk about grammar and punctuation.” You giggle, and snuggle up into his chest, you were practically on his lap by now, but neither of you minded.
“You ready to go home, take a nap and then smoke so this doesn’t happen again later?“ overstimulated episodes for you usually lasted longer than anxiety, sometimes lasting for days.
“You gonna have to carry me in, gonna fall asleep back here”
“You know I’m perfectly fine with that.”

What will become of us
Part 1
Tumblr media
Square : Is this for me ?
Pairing : Dogma x f!jedi!reader
Warnings : Mention of death and injuries, mention of Umbara, a lot of angst, implied depression
Wordcount : 4,9k
Summary : After the treason of Krell and the disaster of Umbara, you couldn’t stop worrying about Dogma and are determinate to go visit him at the GAR prison, without expecting how much of an impact on your life this decision will soon have.
A/N : Finally ! My last submission for the @clonexreaderbingo !! I'm so glad and proud to have made it to the end ! This event was such a big and important challenge to me, this year was very messy and awful on so many levels of my life, and writing and focusing on it really helped me go through all of this ❤
Thank you so much to the wonderful @ghostofskywalker for organizing this event, it was sooo much fun :D
That one was reaaaally hard to write ! I really got carried away and it actually moved me a lot and gave me a looot of feels. It was starting to be a bit long and I still had things to add, so I decided to turn it into a two chapters story !
(Now that I'm about to post it, I just noticed that the mention to the bingo square is in the second part ... It really didn't catch my attention until now, I hope it still will count :O )
@dystopicjumpsuit if you're still interested, here it is (the beginning at least) :D
Enjoy ❤
The sky around the ship became clouded as it entered the atmosphere of Coruscant. You barely had a conversion with the others for the entire flight, just a few words exchanged here and there, but you could feel that nobody really wanted to talk at all. So you just remained silent.
It was the first time that a journey with the 501st boys was that silent, and it seemed never-ending. You were just coming back from Umbara with what was left of your battalion. That mission was one of the deadliest you’ve ever been part of, and one of the most mentally destructive, both for you and your men.
Everybody was tired and feeling strange, and as you looked around you, they were all staring into space with empty eyes, still processing what happened on that damn planet. There was usually cheering and agitation when a mission ended and that you were on the way back home. But not this time, and you couldn’t blame anyone for not at least try to relax the atmosphere.
You, too, were still processing what happened these last few days.
When the ship finally landed, you helped the medics carrying the wounded to the med bay. You exchanged a long, desperate and full of pain glance with Kix, before he disappeared behind the walls of one of the many emergency rooms of the building. His mission wasn’t over yet, and you couldn’t even help him with that burden.
You looked around you for a moment, completely still in the idle of the agitation, contemplating the endless flow of blue and orange painted amours passing the doors. You were feeling powerless right now, and tears were starting to form in your eyes.
“General …”
You heard a distant voice, but you were so lost in thought that you didn’t even noticed it was coming toward you.
“(Y/n) …” a gentle hand settled down on your shoulder, making you jump in surprise.
“It’s ok, it’s just me ...” It was Rex. He looked so tired, even more than everyone else. You had spent a couple nights together back at the Umbarian base, unable to sleep and crying your eyes out, hidden in a tiny room so none of your men could see you like that, trying to ease your pain and process this mess of a situation, comforting each other as you were always doing when things go wrong. Although this time, it was worse than everything you ever had to go through before.
“General Kenobi just called me, the Jedi council want to see you as soon as possible. I guess that they need explanations … “
You had broken your commlink on the battlefield, so no one was able to contact you directly. He looked at you right in the eyes, you knew he had noticed the tears, you didn’t even try to wipe them, you just answered his look. You didn’t need to talk much to understand each other sometimes, eye contact was enough.
“I have another thing to do before, they’ll have to wait a bit longer.” You briefly replied.
“As you wish”, he whispered. He knew exactly where you were going, it probably wasn’t the wisest thing to do, but he didn’t protest. He knew you needed it.
“But please”, he added, his look turning more concerned, “be careful, (Y/n), and try to be easy on yourself, there’s nothing we could have done to prevent all of that, it’s not your fault.”
His voice was trembling, you could feel the lump in his throat. You both felt terribly guilty about everything, and you knew that he was trying to convince himself as well as convincing you. You badly wanted to hold him in your arms to comfort him right now, but the only thing that you were allowed to do in front of so any peoples was to, as he did before, to put your hand on his shoulder.
“I will, same for you, please, you deserve some peace too.” you answered with emotion filling your voice, nearly whispering.
“Thank you, (Y/n), I hope to see you later.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”
You gave him a soft smile before leaving the med bay, already planning to visit him at the GAR base right after meeting the council.
But for now, you had something important to do.
***
The GAR prison was a vast building appended to the Coruscant Guards base. When you introduced yourself at the entrance, the two troopers watching the door easily let you in. But once in the reception, explaining that you were here to see a prisoner, you were greeted by a surprised and confused guard, who immediately called his superior.
Jedi usually never come at the prison, even less to see a clone prisoner.
You were well known by the Coruscant Guards, for you had already worked with them on several occasions. So, when a helmetless Commander Fox showed a couple minutes later, he wasn’t that surprised to see you.
It was common knowledge to everyone that had met you that you were very close to your men and having a very unique relationship with them. And needless to say that the news of a member of the famous 501st being imprisoned here had already flied around the other battalions. It was something as unexpected as hard to understand. So Fox quickly connected the dots.
“General (Y/n), it’s an honor to see you here !” he greeted you.
“The honor is for me, Marshall Commander.” you greeted him back with a smile.
He opened his mouth to ask you if you were here to see that particular blue armored trooper, but quickly refrained himself. Nobody exactly knew for now what happened on Umbara and why that prisoner was here outside of “treason”, only rumors had filtered, and he didn’t want to become too intrusive by asking. You stared at each other for a moment, before he finally says something, suddenly feeling uneasy under the gaze of his confused soldier.
“I’ll handle that, thank you”, he spoke toward his men, before addressing you, ”Please, follow me.”
You nodded and both headed to his office. It was the first time you entered that prison, and beside your apparent confidence, that place was making you nervous. Fox didn’t said a word until the door of his office was shut close and he was sit at his desk.
“So, I have been told that you were here to visit a prisoner, right ?”
“Right.”
“Nobody told me about an interrogation taking place today”, he said trying to look oblivious, scrolling on his datapad, avoiding your gaze.
“Actually, I’m not here to lead any interrogation … One of my men, a lieutenant from the 501st, had been incarcerated in this prison a few days ago, and I just … I just need to see him, to make sure that he’s ok, you know … That last mission was particularly grueling, things … happened …” you were trying to find your words without revealing too much details, but you were desperate to shorten that meeting, the only thing you wanted right now was to finally see him again.
“It’s not fair for him to be here” you finally carried on, “I just need to reassure him about his fate, to tell him that his superiors are not gonna let him down and will fight for his reintegration.”
Fox raised his head from his data pad, meeting your worried eyes with a look that couldn’t hide his suspicion about your presence here anymore. You exchanged another long and heavy stare, he clearly was in the middle of some big moral dilemma. He finally let out a sigh, putting down his datapad on his desk.
“He’s not supposed to leave his cell for now, so I can’t lead him at the parlor or the interrogation room, and it’s categorically forbidden for him to receive any visitors. Thes orders emanate from the Jedi Council itself, they cannot be bypassed …”
Your heart sank in your chest, you opened your mouth to speak, you were ready to argue, but Fox stopped you in yours tracks.
“But”, he quickly picked up, “I could be in charge of the reception for one night, and be urgently and unexpectedly called by one of my officer, because, you know, things happen sometimes … Which will cause the entrance to be left completely unsupervised … That could be the perfect occasion for an unauthorized visitor to enter here without being bothered …”
He stopped, looking insistently at you. You weren’t really sure what he was driving at, until he came closer to you above his desk, still looking at you right in the eyes, and added in a sadder tone.
“Look, rumors are going on about what had happened on Umbara. Awful things have been said, news spread fast between soldiers you know. We weren’t precisely informed about why that man is here, but if you say that he didn’t deserves it and since you know more than us, then I trust you. To be honest, he was looking so miserable when he came here that I felt sorry for him. Whatever happened had obviously broke him, and I think that he, indeed, deserve some support. The Council wanted him alone in a whole wing of the prison for a reason that I think I understand now, they didn’t want anyone to communicate with him because the situation must be problematic enough for them to keep it undercover. But that also means that nobody will know if someone come to visit him. On the contrary of the civilian prison, there’s no video monitoring in this building, so I think it’s safe.”
Your eyes immediately started to glimmer when you finally understood his point.
“Thank you so much Fox !” you let out with relief, “I could never thank you enough for that !”
“Well, let’s say that you owe me a couple drinks on our next night out at the 79’.” He let out with a teasing grin while standing up from his chair to head toward the door.
“As many as you want !” you exclaimed, following him in an instant.
***
As you entered the corridor leading to the cells aisle, the silence became crushing. The only thing that was breaking it was the repetitive sound of your footsteps on the cold floor, reverberating on the bare walls. You crossed the empty space without a word, until you arrived in front of a massive door.
“Here we are … You’ll need that to get inside and to go out, don’t forget to bring it back to me before leaving the building. This one cannot open the cell if that was what you were thinking about.” Fox joked, holding a pass card to you.
“It’s the cell number 42, take all the time you’ll need, nobody will come until 1900, he’s not allowed to go at the mess hall neither, so we have to bring him his diner here.”
“Thank you again Fox” you answered with a grateful look.
“No problems ma’am !”
As the Marshall Commander left you alone, you presented the pass in front of the locking pad, allowing the heavy curtain to open in a sudden whoosh sound. Once on the other side, you stayed on the doorstep for a moment, contemplating the disturbing, cold and endless corridor framed with little empty rooms on both side.
The ceiling was low and the luminosity wasn’t very high, making the space even more distressing. You flinched a little when the door suddenly closed behind you, pulling you out of your thoughts. You realized that you were awfully nervous as you felt your heart pounding faster in your chest.
You slowly started to move forward, looking around you to find the number 42 cell. It soon appeared into your field of vision, and you reached for it with a faster pace, your anxiety level increasing again and the fear of what you were about to find on the other side of the thick transparent door growing in your mind.
When you finally arrived in front of it, your heart instantly broke. Here he was, sat on the floor at the foot of his narrow bed, curled up on himself with his head settled on top of his bended knees, buried between his folded arms.
Seeing him like that made you want to cry, a mix of intense pity, sadness and despair hit you like a wave. You clenched your fists. He never deserved to be treated like that, you though. All you wanted to do right now was to break through that stupid door and take him into your arms to comfort him, to tell him that everything will be alright.
But you couldn’t.
So you just closed your eyes, took a deep breath and did your best to regain your composure, before reopening them and addressing him gently.
“Dogma ?” you let out in a soft, interrogative tone.
Your words were nearly a whisper, but still loud enough for him to hear you. His head slowly rose from his knees, and his eyes widened at your sight. You noticed that he must have been crying recently and probably was severely sleep deprived by the bags under his eyes, making you feel even worse for him.
“Ge … General ?” His voice was weak and trembling. “What are you doing here ? I thought I wasn’t allowed to see anyone …” He stood up with difficulty, nearly stumbling on his feet.
“I know” you breathed out, as he came closer, placing himself in front of you, “but let’s say I got a little help to bypass the problem.” you added with a smile.
A sudden expression of confusion crossed his face.
“Why would you do that ?” he asked.
“I needed to make sure that you were ok, I wanted to see you again, you know, I … I was worried about you.”
He was, indeed, looking miserable, and you could see by the sudden watering of his pupils that your concern was touching him deeply. He lowered his head, trying to hide his pain.
“Thank you … You didn’t had to, nobody care about murderers and traitors …”
“I care … What’s happening to you is not fair, and I needed you to know that I’m not gonna let you down, I will fight to get you out of here and to have you rehabilitated. I’m never leaving any of my men behind, you’re not alone Dogma.”
He couldn’t refrain his tears anymore, and he raised his hands to his face in an unsuccessful attempt to cover it.
“I will never get out of here ! The only think that I deserve right now is to be court marshalled and properly executed. The Jedi are never gonna let that pass.”
You throat tightened, tears raising at the corner of your own eyes. You wanted to stay strong, but it was becoming harder and harder not to fall apart.
“Please, don’t ever say that, it will not happen, I will never authorize it.” your voice was soft but determined, and you were putting all of your remaining energy into preventing it from cracking, “Listen, you did your best, you took the right decision …”
“But I nearly made you shot ! And all for nothing ! I acted like a fool, following orders blindly, and for what ? I nearly executed my own brothers ! You should hate me, all of you ! I’m a monster !” he harshly cut you, almost screaming with rage and frustration, his hands curling into fists against his distorted face.
The roughness of his words took you aback, you could hear his suffering piercing through his voice, and you had no idea what to answer him at first, your mouth staying open but no sound escaping it.
You stayed silent for a moment, searching for the right words, before swallowing hard and trying to articulate something.
“Dogma …” you murmured, “I don’t hate you, none of us do …”
His whole body was shaking, and you could hear the muffled sob he was trying to contain, but he wasn’t moving otherwise, his body like paralyzed with pain. You took a deep breath before going on again.
“Please, don’t be that hard on yourself, you did your best, you did what you thought was right, and nobody can blame you for that. I don’t want you to end up executed, I will never allow that, I promise you, I will plead your case in front of the Jedi Council. You’re a good soldier Dogma, and a good man, whatever mistake you’ve made, it’s hard enough to bear for you, I know your guilt is already enough of a burden, I don’t want you to be punished more than that. I’ve said it and I’ll say it again, you did your best, you deserve to live, and as any other of my men, you’re more than just a number to me, and I will do whatever I can to help you overcome all of this.”
The gentleness of your voice and your reassuring words soon made him calm down. His fists slowly unclenched and relaxed, his hands ending up slipping from his face as his sobbing turned into a silent whimper.
He was still not looking at you, but you knew by the twitching of his eye leads that he wanted to, but probably was too ashamed to do it.
“Thank you …” he shyly mumbled, still sniffling.
“It’s okay, you’re gonna be safe, I promise you” you muttered, absent mindlessly settling your hand on the clear door.
He caught a glimpse of your gesture from the corner of his eye, and it made him raise his head, surprised, his dark brown orbs finally meeting yours.
You stared at each other for a few seconds. The way he looked at you was so intense that it made your heart skips a bit. Then his gaze slowly lowered to land on the spot where your skin was touching the door. And without a warning, he raised one of his hand and gently placed it on the other side, his large palm and strong fingers entirely covering yours.
You saw him blink a few time, like if he was just realizing what he was doing, a faint shade of red appearing on his cheeks, but neither of you could remove your respective hand from the surface, too afraid to end this special moment and break the connection.
His body warmth was irradiating through the transparent material despite his thickness, and for a moment, you got lost in it, wondering about that strange feeling of being so close and so apart from each other at the same time.
***
When you showed up at the Jedi Temple later, you were having a knot in your stomach. You had the feeling that you were about to go through an excessively long interrogation. You were the only jedi to have witnessed what happened on Umbara, so you were a very important element for the understanding of the situation.
You were right.
The council spent hours questioning you on every little detail of the events. You did your best to stand for Dogma, to make them understand that it was the best thing to do, and that his action was a courageous and selfless one. But the council only listened to you, never showing what they were really thinking about it. They just sat here without a word, while you were pleading his case.
When you finally get out of the Council Chamber, you were feeling exhausted and empty. It took so long that the night was now upon Coruscant. The worst part was that you had absolutely no idea about what was going to happen now, and you couldn’t do anything more about it.
You sigh when you catch the view of the military prison while standing at the temple’s forecourt. You were supposed to go take some well-deserved sleep, but you wanted to visit the 501st before. You just needed to be surrounded by your men, to spend time with them, to talk to them, and to show them your undefective support. You were all in this together, after all.
Without even looking back, you go down the temple stairs and headed toward the GAR building, disappearing into the darkness.
***
As you were about to leave the prison on your first visit, Dogma asked you if you were going to come back again. And of course, you promised him that you will as soon as possible.
At that time, the Jedi Council had decided to not assign you to any new mission until the situation has been clarified. They needed to know how and by what means General Krell ended up betraying the Order and the Republic, how nobody was able to notice it sooner, and if anyone else among the jedi or the clones could have been or could still be complicit in the treason.
It was a really big deal both for the Order and for the GAR, and as you were a key witness, they needed you to stay near, both to protect you and to watch you, and you found yourself assigned to stay on Coruscant, while another jedi was temporarily affected to assist General Skywalker with the 501st.
They were still conducting interrogations among the clones, soldiers as well as officers, and you have already been auditioned several times yourself after meeting the Council, by the GAR committee of inquiry and even by the Chancellor himself.
But things weren’t going as easily as they should have. The whole situation seemed to be dragging on, and the pressure and suspicion that were weighting upon on you were harder and harder to bear. Even if the council wasn’t saying it out loud, you could feel that they were doubting you.
You were stuck on Coruscant, far from your battalion and worrying about your men, unable to help them when you should have been by there side to support them, and it was making you sick.
You had absolutely no idea about how long all of this was going to last, and the only thing you had been allowed to do was to helplessly wait until things could finally move on a little. It felt like a punishment to you. Maybe it was a way for the Council to test your nerves and patience, you couldn’t tell at this point.
It was hard and uncertain times for you. You could feel the distance growing between you and your fellow jedi every time you were trying to reach for one of them, to engage a conversation, to seek their company.
Something had changed in the way they were perceiving you, you knew it, but you couldn’t blame them, despite feeling lonely and outcasted. In all your spare time, you started to question yourself a lot, thinking about the purpose of this war, of the Order, even about your place in all of this, wandering if all of these sacrifices really were necessary, and if justice was finally going to come someday.
The Council eventually ended up assigning you to help Master Jocasta in the archives department, asking you to be patient, simply telling you that their investigation was progressing, although they never gave you much more details about it.
You kept asking them about the fate of the prisoner, but they just told you that it wasn’t the first priority right now, and that they’ll treat his case later.
You did your best to look as impassive and unaffected as possible during all that time, to not let your emotions and worries show too much to anyone, feigning to resiliently handle the situation. But on the inside, you were starting to grow more and more tired and desperate every day, and as much as you appreciated to work with Master Jocasta, you were badly craving to leave Coruscant and go back on missions again.
Since the beginning of the war, you had never spent as much consecutive time on that planet, and mostly, you had never been separated from your battalion for so long.
Of course, you always stayed in touch with them, no matter how far they were send to, but still, it was impossible for you not to worry about them. So every time they were back on Coruscant, you took the chance to spend as much time as possible with them.
Nothing was the same without you as they say, and nothing was the same without them. Despite all the hard times shared together, there were also moments of pure joy, fun and complicity, and you were missing those deeply.
You were missing each one of those clones very deeply, in fact.
That’s how your daily appointments at the prison began. Nobody knew except for Fox and Rex, to who you were regularly giving news about his soldier. You were extremely lucky to have the Marshall Commander on your side, you could have never done that without his help, at all. That man was a blessing, even if it had costed you so many drinks already. You’ll be forever owing him that favor.
Your routine was every day the same : you were leaving the Jedi temple at dawn, entering the prison by a hidden service door known only by the guards, and sneaking into Fox’s office to retrieve the pass before heading to Dogma’s cell.
Sometimes the Commander was here in his office to greet you and give it to you, sometimes he wasn’t and you were picking it up by yourself. He was trusting you blindly, as long as the pass was back in his drawer the moment you left. To be honest, you were a Jedi General, you were basically having the authorization to access to any office in the building if you really wanted to.
The only thing that was ultimately forbidden to you was to open one of these cells by yourself without the permission and supervision of the Senate or the Jedi Council.
Since you were visiting him, you could see that Dogma was in better shape than the first time you saw him. He was slowly regaining a bit of hope, and even if guilt was still hitting him hard sometimes, he started to understand that what he did was the only possible outcome at the time, it was going to happen anyway, whether by Rex’s hand or his own.
It seemed like your presence was the only glimpse of joy given to him in the never-ending state of isolation he was forced into, and witnessing his face enlightening and a warm smile growing on his lips as soon as you were showing in front of his cell was making your heart melt every time.
Every one of those encounters always ended up the same way : before leaving, you laid your hand against the door, and Dogma put his on the other side, in front of yours.
It was the gesture that comforted him the most the first time you came, and on the second visit, it was him who initiated it. He didn’t need to ask you, for you immediately understood what it meant when he settled his hand on the glassy surface, answering his move without a word.
The truth was, you needed comfort too, you were feeling absolutely down staying at the Temple, and you were even starting to lose track of time when remaining there for too long without going outside. The high and thick stone walls of the sacred building became more and more oppressive and started to feel less and less like home to you. All you wanted to do was to escape from here as much as you could, even if it was a very hard thing to accept.
In this context, visiting him soon became the only thing that was giving you a reason to keep waiting and to go on without losing your mind. It turned into the time of the day that you were waiting for the most, a very special and intimate moment that you wouldn’t miss for anything in the world.
You were opening more and more to each other, sharing more and more personal things at each occasion, to the point that you came to knew each other nearly better than anyone else ever. A very strong bond built up between the two of you. Something that emerged from loneliness and concern at first, but quickly evolved into a sincere and fond connection. You could both feel it, even if you weren’t understanding the true nature of it yet.
As the days passed by, you started to badly wish that you could cross the prohibition and open the door, to finally be able to touch him for real, to feel the warmth of his body and the contact of his skin against yours without any more filters or boundaries.
You weren’t supposed to allow yourself to get attached as a Jedi, but deep inside of you, you knew that it was too late, and this since a long time already.
But little do you knew that you weren’t the only one to feel like that.

Yandere!Volo x Reader
Mount Coronet Rendezvous
Something about the summit of Mount Coronet was unsettling but nostalgic. From the snow drifting on the cliffside and decorating your shoulders to the stairs of the Temple of Sinnoh – well what was previously known as the Temple of Sinnoh, coming back to this place stirred up a roaring cacophony of emotions that was only made worse by the man sitting in the center of it all. You thought he had left. You thought he had vanished into the wilderness of Hisui like a wandering vagabond, and yet, Volo stood tall and confident smack dab in the center of the marble platform. This was unexpected to say the very least, and he was fast approaching! Not hostile but losing one’s guard around Volo would spell certain disaster.
“Hello, my ever-persistent hero~” Volo purred. Yes, something was most definitely wrong with Volo. He wanted nothing to do with you the last time you two were near each other. You are certain he wanted you very much dead. “What’s this? You seem surprised to see me? You know, I have had change of heart, my dear. Growlithes can change their stripes after all.”
You were quick to step back from the ever-encroaching Celestica reject, not allowing him to desecrate your space any longer. “Volo, Growlithes don’t change their spots.” Your tone was bordering on wary. Rightfully so.
“Is that so, my little hero?” He comes so close, so painfully close that you can feel everything pressed up against you, and there is no where to go. No where to run. You were already against the marble pillar, back flattened and all. “Perhaps that is true, but they change when they evolve, eh?”
The finger he would usually wag right under your nose in that superior know it all attitude was now left tracing your jawline as he stared on delving into your eyes with something starving and fierce like a wild Pokémon. His face drew nearer as he stole the breath from your lungs, kissing fiercely with no forgiveness. He bit and clawed at you, far from human, and from your lips he drew the silent gasp, the unheard prayer. Which, Volo took no prisoners and urgently mapped out the cavern of your mouth. He gave you no chance to fight back, no chance to counter. Everything that surrounded you was him and him alone.
When he was finished, he drew back and wiped the saliva that had sullied his face, but Volo did not seem bothered in the slightest. The expected disgust he should have had for you, what you had expected him to direct towards you was instead some twisted satisfaction and a shitty smirk that split his face. Nothing could stop the horror from growing within your chest, and a piece of you pondered just exactly why this was happening. You settled your bearings and refused to meet his eye as you too wiped furiously at your lips and chin. His attention would not tear itself away from you, and the weight of it upon your shoulders made it blaringly clear that you would need to be the one to stop this.             “You can’t beat me in a battle! You can’t meet Arceus. So you ‘sully’ his quote unquote chosen one? What the ever-loving fuck is wrong with you, Volo!” You screamed at him, now shaking. First there was a snort and a brief chuckle. It was followed shortly by the unsettling roar of uneven laughter. It was too jovial for this to be anything other than manic.             “Volo?” You asked cautiously.             He shook his head and rubbed his forehead as his eyes twisted shut with manic glee. “Oh, my foolish little hero. You don’t seem to understand just what has changed.”
Okay, now this pissed you off, “Yeah actually. Explain yourself.”             “Oh darling dear of mine,” he made to grab the collar of your uniform, “Oh sweet hero of Hisui. You – yes, you – are my new religion, and you are going nowhere.”

Hello:)))
I haven't seen anything against this but if u feel uncomfy with this just ignore it please!
Could you do a newt x autistic fem!reader? Like they find it hard to deal with noise, panic attacks, stims, hyperfixations and being tired from masking?? Again if this makes you uncomfy please ignore it. Thanks:))))
Ahhhhh thank you for this ask!! Don't worry it's not uncomfortable at all - I just want to make sure my representation is done well ❤❤
Tides
Newt x autistic!fem!reader
Set during tmr (movieverse)
Notes: okay so, so far in my fics I've written representations of asexual and deaf people. With the ace!reader I wrote that from my own experiences, and for the deaf!reader I've had interactions with the deaf community, so I had a bit of background. However, I don't know a lot of autistic people, so my representation in this fic is completely research-based. Please let me know if anything should be changed - it is really not a problem to go through and make edits
Warnings: language, feelings of insecurity due to autism, panic attacks, minor injuries (some blood and stitches, not detailed though)
Tumblr media
You think you've acclimated to the Glade pretty well.
The first day was... pretty shit.
You'd been dropped in a strange place, blocked in by a massive hulking Maze, and you spent the whole day forcing yourself to maintain eye contact and make awkward conversation with people who were clearly trying their best to be friendly (or flirtatious, but you ignore those).
You think back to that first night, during the celebration bonfire.
This whole bonfire situation is starting to overwhelm you. You can hear the raucous shouts of drunk boys bombarding your senses, and their voices overlap to form a huge wall of noise that starts to crash down on you.
It's like you're drowning. You feel your breaths start to quicken and your palms grow sticky, and something in you tells you to get out.
You stand abruptly, walking quickly away from the group and into the open field.
You gulp in deep lungfuls of the cool night air and try to calm yourself, not bothering to wipe away the tears sliding down your face.
Newt had come to find you that night, and had comforted you gently.
In an overwhelmed rant, you'd ended up spilling out all your feelings and explaining your issue with the noise of the other Gladers.
You remember stepping back, terrified that you sounded crazy or weird, but Newt had actually understood what you were going through, and kept you company in the field for the night.
⭒----⭒
"Morning Y/n," greets Jeff as you enter the medical hut.
You'd been chosen to be a Medjack by the end of your first week, and have been training for a while now.
You mostly watch Clint and Jeff bandage the regular scrapes, and practice making the cures and salves from the herbs and medicines in the storage cupboard.
There are tens of ingredient combinations for each different cure, but you memorised them all within a week. You'd stolen Jeff's booklet of cure methods and learnt them while reading at breakfast, fingers tapping on the table as your eyes flicked across the pages.
You're always moving your hands, whether that's drumming your fingers on whatever surface is near, or shaking your hands, or just playing with your fingers.
You get some weird looks for it sometimes, and usually end up shoving down the instinct.
You don't read at lunch though, cause Newt always flops down and starts ranting about whatever Glade disaster he had to deal with in the morning. You love chatting with him and Minho, and Alby too when he pops up on occasion.
You were worried that after your spill in the field on the first night Newt would treat you differently, but he mostly just made subtle movements to make you comfortable.
He always finds you on the nights you stay up for hours mass-making salves for burns that haven't even happened, too lost in your work to notice that the rest of the Glade has already gone to bed.
On some of those nights he simply provides quiet company by sitting in one of the medical beds, but if he think's you're not sleeping enough he'll persuade you to stop your task and go to bed.
⭒----⭒
Most days you can hide your differences.
You can force yourself to hold your hands still and look straight into people's eyes when they're talking, and smile along.
But it's exhausting, and it's all started to build up in your head.
One afternoon, you're still worn out from trying to just act normal the previous night, and it's not at all helped by the commotion outside.
The yelling fills your ears and swells as the voices grow closer to the medical hut.
"What's going on?" mutters Clint, looking out the window in frustration.
You focus and try to tune out the noise, going back to the hangover cures you're making for the next Greenie bonfire.
"Hey! We need Medjacks!" calls the boys from outside.
"Shuck," says Jeff, rushing out to check on them.
"C'mon Y/n, sounds like a few injured," says Clint, lightly touching your shoulder.
You shrug the hand off automatically, before realising and sending him an apologetic look. "I'm sorry," you say, looking down.
"Nothing to be sorry for," replies Clint with an easy smile. Then he looks outside, concerned. "I'll go out with Jeff, you stay and prepare the hut."
You nod and wrench your focus away from the hangover cures.
Alright Y/n, you can do this. You lock down that feeling of wrong that comes from forcing yourself away from making the cures when you were fully immersed in them just seconds ago.
You're usually pretty good with patients, but you're drained from way too many difficult interactions last night, plus the noise from outside the hut.
The noise gets worse as a bunch of boys barge through the door.
"Accident with the Builders," explains Clint as he stumbles in holding up an injured Glader.
The guy probably fell from one of the roofs.
Clint manoeuvres the guy onto a bed and turns to you. "Jeff and I 'ave gotta deal with this guy, can you check on the rest?"
"Okay," you respond, head starting to ache from the noise.
The rest aren't really injured, just a bit scratched or bruised.
There's one guy that needs stitches though, so you sit him down on a bed and give him some anaesthetic.
"Woah, what are you doing with that?" he yelps as you lift a needle.
"You need stitches," you tell him, gesturing to his arm like it's obvious, cause it is.
"C'mon, man suck it up," jeers one of the other Builders.
You're head begins to pound.
You reach out and hold his arm steadily as you begin stitching the wound closed.
The noise has passed breaking point by a long way now, as the boys start shouting "ew" and "dude, can you feel that".
The sound of their voices increase tenfold as Newt walks into the hut.
"Alright, what the shuck happened?" he demands.
He doesn't see you surrounded, caged in on your low stool with tall boys standing around you yelling.
Your breaths start shuddering through your chest and you grip your needle tighter to stop your shaking hands as you struggle to finish the stitches.
The boys start loudly explaining their stories.
"Gally was just barking orders-"
"And Ryan fell off his shuckin' ladder-"
"-idiot kicked me in the face on the way down."
"Then Pete sliced his goddamn arm open-"
The sound of their voices lances through your head and you rush to finish and bandage Pete's arm, tossing the needle on the table and raising your hands to cover your ears.
You squeeze your eyes shut, hunching over and hyperventilating at this point.
You need out. You need to get away. But there's people all around you, and the exit is so far away.
"Hey, uh- You okay?" Pete's worried voice barely manages to cut through the waves of noise crashing over you.
"Oi, move aside." Newt shoves through the wall of people, and he inhales sharply as he sees you.
"Alright. Everyone out," he commands, pointing out the door. "You too Pete."
Newt tugs the curtain closed around the cubicle and bends down beside you.
"Y/n, hey, hey. Can you hear me? Just breath, you're okay." He reaches out and gently guides your hands from their clamped position over your ears.
"That's good. You hear me now, yeah? It's just us. I promise it's okay. You wanna open your eyes?"
Your breaths slow down a little as you open your eyes and meet his concerned gaze.
He gives you a smile. "That's really good, Y/n. Just focus on me. Here, breathe with me."
You sit there for a few minutes, just inhaling and exhaling and matching Newt's rhythm.
You let out a shaky breath. "Thanks," you say, voice scratchy.
He opens an arm in offer, and you know that you could say no with a simple shake of the head.
But the comfort would be nice right now.
You slide off the stool and onto the floor with him, slumping against his body and pressing your face into his shoulder as he rubs soothing circles on your back.
⭒----⭒
Dinnertime passes and you stay in Medjack hut, continuing with the hangover cures you were making earlier.
It calms your head; first bottle, one drop, second ingredient, mix, next component, etc, then repeat the whole thing.
"Hey." Jeff knocks gently on the door. "Some of the boys wanna apologise for earlier. I told them I'd just pass the message on."
"Thank you," you say with a smile.
"Here, Clint got some dinner for you." Jeff sets the plate down on your table. "Make sure you don't sleep too late, okay?"
You nod. "Promise."
"Alright, night Y/n."
⭒----⭒
You definitely do not keep to that promise.
When there's enough hangover cures for the next three months, you move on to stomach medicine and re-rolling bandages, then you rearrange the entire storage cupboard and wash all the equipment.
You don't even know how much time has passed until Newt walks in.
He doesn't say anything, just leans on the wall until you see him (which takes a concerningly long period of time).
"Newt," you say, only half surprised.
"I missed you at dinner earlier."
He catches your guilty glance at the food on the table, now cold.
"Ah." He picks up the plate. "We'll get you breakfast tomorrow. Come with me to the bin."
Your gaze flicks back to the work table, calling you to come back and keep making the cold cures.
"Y/n, please walk with me." He gives you an pointed look and raises his eyebrows. Then he extends his hand towards you with a grin.
You huff and push away from the table, grabbing his hand and interlocking your fingers with his as you stand in the doorway.
He looks at you, thrown off for a second.
You tilt your head at him. "Are we gonna go or..."
"Yeah, let's go," he says, breezing out. You laugh as he yanks on your hand to pull you with him.
"Are you okay, after earlier?"
"I think so. Or at least, I will be, after a while."
He tosses the food in the bin and turns to you.
"So why aren't you sleeping then?"
"Why aren't you?" you shoot back.
"I was waiting for you," he responds easily.
It's a simple sentence, but it warms you all the way down to your toes.
"I won't be able to sleep, even if I go to bed," you admit. "Too much going on in here," you say, tapping your head with a finger.
He seems to think for a moment. "Walk with me again."
"Where?"
"Keepers' personal huts," he replies, grinning.
You stop walking for a second, and he turns to face you.
"Unless-"
You step forward and take his hand again. "I really think it's unfair that you guys get your own huts."
The grin returns.
"I'm just walking there with you, though," you clarify with a raised eyebrow.
The moon illuminates his smile. "Of course."
Your heartrate picks up a little as you walk closer - but in the good way, like fluttering.
You and Newt have sort of been dancing around each other for a while. You're not oblivious, and you know how you feel, but you haven't done anything about it so far.
You’ve been trying to hype yourself up to confess your feelings, but you haven’t been able to do it yet.
Part of you is worried he’ll be creeped out by how you feel for him. Who would want to deal with all your problems in a relationship?
But at the same time you can see that he likes you too, at least a little bit.
You know he cares about you from the way he takes care of you and genuinely wants to know you.
And you’re pretty sure it’s not just friendly feelings. He always blushes at your embarrassingly lame attempts at flirting, and you think he tries to flirt back in his own way. You're not sure about that one though.
Anyway, you get to his hut, and he opens the door and walks in.
"Y/n." You realise you've been standing in the doorway for while now.
"Yeah."
"Close the door behind you," he says, deliberately vague.
He turns and starts casually rearranging the few things in the room, giving you time to decide.
You glance at the door handle.
Then you step into the room and shut the door behind you.
He sits on the bed, fiddling with the blanket nervously.
You both seem to keep switching from confident to shy, like tides pulling back and forth.
It's getting old. You definitely need to confess soon, and just get it all out.
There's one low-burning torch in the room, so you can see as he moves to lie down on the bed.
The other side of the bed has more than enough room for you to fit comfortably.
"Y/n. I'm not gonna do anything," he says softly.
You snort. "That's a great line."
You can feel the way he rolls his eyes. "Let's just sleep, okay?"
You move carefully into the bed beside him, pulling the blanket over yourself.
There's a safe distance between the two of you, and you lie on your sides facing each other.
There's a few beats of silence before Newt speaks again.
"You're still awake."
You huff out a soft laugh. "That would've been a fast time to fall asleep in."
He doesn't respond.
You sigh. "Everything is too much," you tell him. "I can't- There are too many feelings. The noise from earlier... everyone was just yelling so much, and it's like it's still in my head."
He nods understandingly.
"Okay," he says. "Let's try something. Listen out, what can you hear?"
You sigh again. "It's not that easy."
"I know, just humour me."
"Okay. I can hear..." you pause listening. "There's a bit of breeze."
"From where?" he asks, shifting slightly.
"The w- window." Your voice stutters as his hand brushes yours, both your arms bent at the elbow.
Oh. That's what he's doing.
"I can hear you," you say quietly.
"You can," he agrees. He brushes his fingers with yours again.
"Oh for fuck's sake." You grab his hand and hold it properly.
He lets out a soft chuckle. "So, is the noise any better?"
"Yeah..." You can't concentrate. You're basically breathing the same air as him now.
"There was one other thing," you say. "Keeping me up."
"And what was that?"
You've just gotta tell him. It's taking up way too much energy to keep it down.
"I kind of like you," you whisper. "Without the kind of. I mean, I like you. A lot. Was kinda hoping you feel the same."
Your heart drops for a second when he lets go of your hand, but he just moves to pull you closer. You melt against him, tangling your legs together as he wraps his arm around your waist.
"I like you too," he says. "Also a lot."
"Okay," you say, smile stretching involuntarily. "That's all, then. I think I can sleep now."
"Yeah? I'm glad." He pauses. "One more thing though."
"Hm-" he cuts you off with a kiss.
You pull back, surprised.
"Shuck, shuck, sorry. I meant to ask but then I got... and I forgot, shuck-"
"Newt. It's fine. Just caught off guard."
"Oh, okay."
There's a pause.
"Newt?"
"Yeah"
You lean in, and he meets you in the middle.
You fall asleep easily after that, after exchanging a few more soft kisses.
Tumblr media
This one was pretty rushed at the end so it probably feels a bit messy there. I might go back and edit but every time I say that I don't do it so we'll see. Apologies for the weird ending, for now.
Side note that I desperately wanted to have in the fic but couldn't figure out how to squeeze in:
Y/n gets tired of suppressing her stims sometimes (the hand movements and tapping stuff) so sometimes Newt's just like 'here' and they sit together while she plays with his hands instead of her own. They get a pen and sometimes she just draws stars and hearts all over his hands.
Thank you for anon for requesting, and thank you for reading!
@idkwhattonamethishi16 thank you for the lovely words I’m glad you enjoyed ❤️ (writing this here cause my comment thing doesn’t work lol)
