Poem: Just a Painting
Acrylics breathe life
Into a stark white canvas, cradling possibilities
Of the wavelength: darks, lights—
Aluminum, copper, titanium,
Fireworks without the ingredients
Made explosive by heat, gas, pressure—
Launching tube sounds in the distance,
Gathering around the bonfire
With beer kegs and roasted bratwursts—
Crowds delight in three-dimensional art,
Making memories of the Fourth of July—
Oxidizers do what a paintbrush can’t.
Paint and palettes, no fuse or ignition,
Just quintessential color wheel shades—
No reducing agent, no synthesized salts:
No strontium, lithium, thermite, or charcoal—
Whistles and booms belong to pyrotechnicians;
Acrylics, oils, watercolors belong to painters:
Amateurs who won’t be summoned for holidays
To use their coloring agents
To please the masses.
This poem was published in the March 2017 issue of The Poetry Rag, which is no longer available.

Heron Tree published my poem “Repent” as part of a series of poems created from materials published before 1927. Their call for submissions inspired me to explore a book of fairy tales I’ve had for a long time that was published in 1907. I talked about it in my post A Fun Found Poetry Project when I first started working on it back in January. Please check it out, and enjoy the great work they do…

Dear Hair,
I cut you as punishment.
Force you to stare
As pieces of your body
Float to the ground
Where we are both bound
And you screech and screech
In agony
You dare ask me why
When you had spent
Most of your time
With your long tendrils
Coiled and knotted
Sometimes so tight
I found bits of you between my
My pearly whites
But you grow and grow
Even with a blade to your throat.

Wind From a Wanderer's Skull
My poetry collection, Wind From a Wanderer's Skull, is available for purchase on Amazon in paperback and digital editions!
It is a compilation of my best works thus far, and I am happy to share it with the world.
If you would like to support a humble indie poet, by all means, please take a look!
Your attention and readership will go a long way; this is my first step toward establishing a presence as an author.
And as always:
Thank you. I would not have been able to do this without the support I have received thus far.
