𝐀𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐀 ― seventeen x hogwarts [SLOW]
Tumblr media
AMORTENTIA ; the most powerful love potion to exist
SEUNGCHEOL: GRYFFINDOR CAPTAIN ― being head-over-heels for the Gryffindor captain is harder than it seems, especially when everyone knows about your little crush on Seungcheol and he takes it lightly. Until when you’re partnered up and forced to be in each other’s lives on a daily basis, that’s when things take a bit of a turn
JEONGHAN: DESKMATES TO LOVERS? ― he was the worst of worse, how could anyone love him? Such a cold-hearted kid yet you were forced to sit next to him and as a Ravenclaw, it didn’t do you justice that all Jeonghan did was throw insults
JOSHUA: HONEYDUKES LOVER ― The first time they met was when she reached for a chocolate frog which he helped her reach and after that, they’ve been seeing each other everywhere. A story of how a Slytherin became undyingly soft for a Hufflepuff
TO BE UPLOADED!
JUN ― She was overlooked by him for the longest, seen nothing more than a best friend
WONWOO ― Reading books in the library near the dawn was the hardest when with Wonwoo. You were forced to act as if your heart could never resonate with such beauty. How do you hide your feelings from your best friend?
WOOZI ― a strict choir leader who would only treat you with respect because of that angelic voice that came from you. To say Woozi was utterly in love with a Hufflepuff was an understatement.
SOONYOUNG ― beating Soonyoung at everything had become a habit.
DOKYEOM ―how you and Dokyeom would continuously sneak out of Hogwarts through the passageways through the Marauders Map and invisible cloak ― this had to mean teamwork
MINGYU ― the sweetest, most charming boy, Hufflepuff prefect, and ace for the Quidditch team. Y/N was totally in love with him but what happens when her backstabbing best friend decides to date him.
SEUNGKWAN ― it was really Hufflepuff vs Slytherin here. No one in their right mind from the golden house would dare mess with a Slytherin but things have been taken a little too far. From nasty pranks to idiotic call outs, Seungkwan and you never really got along.
VERNON ― He would never dream of it when he took the Astronomy class in his sixth year, it was far too much for his own good but when a mysterious Ravenclaw had taken the same class and their paired together, Vernon finds himself more and more fascinated by her
DINO ― the chosen one, everyone knew him. He knew everyone, but you. A love story forming between the girl with her head in the clouds and a clumsy, nice boy.

Harry Potter is Actually Really Clever
So often, I feel like Harry is underrated in his own series and I want to talk about how much I love Harry James Potter. Harry is my favorite character in the books and I want to showcase some moments of Harry proving the Sorting Hat knew what it was talking about when it comes to Harry possibly doing well in Slytherin and even Ravenclaw.
(I have more moments listed in my notes, and I'm in book 6 in my current reread, so I definitely am not covering everything)
Let's start then with the words of the Sorting Hat itself:
“Hmm,” said a small voice in his ear. “Difficult. Very difficult. Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind either. There’s talent, A my goodness, yes — and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that’s interesting….So where shall I put you?” Harry gripped the edges of the stool and thought, Not Slytherin, not Slytherin. “Not Slytherin, eh?” said the small voice. “Are you sure? You could be great, you know, it’s all here in your head, and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that
(Philosopher's Stone, page 88)
The Hat says Harry is brave enough for Gryffindor, clever enough and talented enough for Ravenclaw and has the ambition and thirst to prove himself for Slytherin. And the hat isn't wrong about it's assessment of Harry. Harry is clever and talented and I so often find it underplayed in fics, or ones that do include it, acting like it's fanon characterization when it's really isn't.
Harry Potter is canonically a BAMF.
So, here I'm going to talk about his cleverness and give some moments of Harry being clever from the books.
(I'll have a different post for his magical prowess.)
Harry Has Brilliant Memory
So, Harry James Potter practically has close to an eidetic memory, and no one really seems to mention it.
An eidetic memory is described as an almost perfect recollection of images or events. And Harry actually shows himself as being very capable of it:
Angelina: “…Harry, didn’t you do something to your glasses to stop the rain fogging them up when we played Hufflepuff in that storm?” “Hermione did it,” said Harry. He pulled out his wand, tapped his glasses and said, “Impervius!”
(Order of the Phoenix, page 379)
In thus scene its raining during a Quidditch match and Angelina asks Harry about a spell he used a year before. Harry remembered that moment, remembered Hermione was actually the one who cast the spell, a spell he himself never cast before this moment, and he then casts it perfectly from memory.
Harry remembers the incantation and wand movement perfectly enough to succeed on his first try.
Actually, almost every time we see him cast spells he gets the wand movement and incantation right on the first try (even his first attempt at a patronus worked, the happy memory just wasn't strong enough)
In general, they moments we see Harry fail at casting spells on the first try is when he overthinks it and fails himself like that.
Harry stared at the letters in brackets. Nvbl . . . that had to mean “nonverbal.” Harry rather doubted he would be able to bring off this particular spell; he was still having difficulty with nonverbal spells, something Snape had been quick to comment on in every D.A.D.A. class. On the other hand, the Prince had proved a much more effective teacher than Snape so far. Pointing his wand at nothing in particular, he gave it an upward flick and said Levicorpus! inside his head. “Aaaaaaaargh!”
(Half-Blood Prince, page 239)
Harry tends to fail potions, and nonverbal spells when Snape is breathing down on him expecting him to fail, though, in this example, the moment Harry feels he can succeed the spell and isn't overthinking it, he casts it perfectly and nonverbally on the first attempt.
He is the same with potions:
Snape, meanwhile, seemed to have decided to act as though Harry were invisible. Harry was, of course, well used to this tactic, as it was one of Uncle Vernon’s favorites, and on the whole was grateful he had to suffer nothing worse. In fact, compared to what he usually had to endure from Snape in the way of taunts and snide remarks, he found the new approach something of an improvement and was pleased to find that when left well alone, he was able to concoct an Invigoration Draught quite easily. At the end of the lesson he scooped some of the potion into a flask, corked it, and took it up to Snape’s desk for marking, feeling that he might at last have scraped an E.
(Order of the Phoenix, page 660)
When Snape wasn't breathing down his neck and stressing him, even without the Half-Blood Prince's superior instructions, Harry is good at potions. He accomplishes the potion to a level of Exceeding Expectations easily. The problem is never his skill, memory, or talent; usually, it's stress, being stuck in his own head, or carelessness (did anyone diagnose him with ADHD?)
Another example of his eidetic memory in OOP:
“Well, you know, they do work well on non-magical wounds,” said Hermione fairly. “I suppose something in that snake’s venom dissolves them or something. . . . I wonder where the tearoom is?” “Fifth floor,” said Harry, remembering the sign over the Welcome Witch’s desk.
(Order of the Phoenix, page 508)
When Harry describes St. Mongos for the first time (about a week before the above scene) he reads a sign that describes what is located in each floor of the hospital.
A week later, without reading that sign again, Harry can recall where the tea room is since he has that sign he read once a week ago, memorized.
Harry is Sneaky
Harry is a proper sneaky slythein and actually has more cunning moments than some slytherins in the books. Here are a few examples I have from my notes:
“Should call Filch, I should, if something’s a-creeping around unseen.” Harry had a sudden idea. “Peeves,” he said, in a hoarse whisper, “the Bloody Baron has his own reasons for being invisible.” Peeves almost fell out of the air in shock.
(Philosopher's Stone, page 197)
Harry is a good liar and scared of Peeves like this in his first year.
“…He likes to keep in touch with me, though . . . keep up with my news . . . check if I’m happy. . . .” And, grinning broadly at the look of horror on Uncle Vernon’s face, Harry set off toward the station exit, Hedwig rattling along in front of him, for what looked like a much better summer than the last.
(Prisoner of Azkaban, page 435)
But their attitude had changed since they had found out that Harry had a dangerous murderer for a godfather — for Harry had conveniently forgotten to tell them that Sirius was innocent.
(Goblet of Fire, page 24)
Again, Harry lying and tricking the Dursleys so they won't hurt him. Leveling Sirius as a threat against them.
“Not unless you can answer my riddle. Answer on your first guess — I let you pass. Answer wrongly — I attack. Remain silent — I will let you walk away from me unscathed.”
[the riddle and Harry thinking through it]
“Spy . . . er . . . spy . . . er . . .” said Harry, pacing up and down. “A creature I wouldn’t want to kiss . . . a spider!” The sphinx smiled more broadly. She got up, stretched her front legs, and then moved aside for him to pass. “Thanks!” said Harry, and, amazed at his own brilliance, he dashed forward.
(Goblet of Fire, page 629)
I skipped the sphinx's riddle, now the riddle isn't a hard one, but still, Harry isn't stupid. But he thinks he is. He even tells himself during that scene:
Harry’s stomach slipped several notches. It was Hermione who was good at this sort of thing, not him. He weighed his chances. If the riddle was too hard, he could keep silent, get away from the sphinx unharmed, and try and find an alternative route to the center.
(Goblet of Fire, 629)
But it's just Harry and his low self-esteem. He solves the riddle quickly thinking aloud near the Sphinx and he does solve it, and is amazed by it because he doesn't think of himself as smart, even though he is.
Most of the riddles to the Ravenclaw common room are probably along this line of difficulty too. It just goes to show he isn't stupid.
“There,” she said, handing it to him. “Drink it before it gets cold, won’t you? Well, now, Mr. Potter . . . I thought we ought to have a little chat, after the distressing events of last night.” He said nothing. She settled herself back into her seat and waited. When several long moments had passed in silence, she said gaily, “You’re not drinking up!” He raised the cup to his lips and then, just as suddenly, lowered it. One of the horrible painted kittens behind Umbridge had great round blue eyes just like Mad-Eye Moody’s magical one, and it had just occurred to Harry what Mad-Eye would say if he ever heard that Harry had drunk anything offered by a known enemy. “What’s the matter?” said Umbridge, who was still watching him. “Do you want sugar?” “No,” said Harry. He raised the cup to his lips again and pretended to take a sip, though keeping his mouth tightly closed. Umbridge’s smile widened. “Good,” she whispered. “Very good. Now then . . .” She leaned forward a little. “Where is Albus Dumbledore?” “No idea,” said Harry promptly.
(Order of the Pheonix, page 630)
Harry is clever enough to recognize drinking anything Umbridge gives him is a bad idea, so he doesn't. And he does so without her realizing.
“even if you do cause a diversion, how is Harry supposed to talk to him?” “Umbridge’s office,” said Harry quietly. He had been thinking about it for a fortnight and could think of no alternative; Umbridge herself had told him that the only fire that was not being watched was her own. “Are — you — insane?” said Hermione in a hushed voice. Ron had lowered his leaflet on jobs in the cultivated fungus trade and was watching the conversation warily. “I don’t think so,” said Harry, shrugging. “And how are you going to get in there in the first place?” Harry was ready for this question. “Sirius’s knife,” he said. “Excuse me?” “Christmas before last Sirius gave me a knife that’ll open any lock,” said Harry. “So even if she’s bewitched the door so Alohomora won’t work, which I bet she has —”
(Order of the Phoenix, page 658)
Harry can and does strategies. He planned how to get into Umbeidge's office. He employed his friends and actually led them. Being a leader and a strategist — rules we see him grow more into later.
Harry’s mind was racing. The Death Eaters wanted this dusty spun-glass sphere. He had no interest in it. He just wanted to get them all out of this alive, make sure that none of his friends paid a terrible price for his stupidity . . . The woman stepped forward, away from her fellows, and pulled off her hood. Azkaban had hollowed Bellatrix Lestrange’s face, making it gaunt and skull-like, but it was alive with a feverish, fanatical glow. “You need more persuasion?” she said, her chest rising and falling rapidly. “Very well — take the smallest one,” she ordered the Death Eaters beside her. “Let him watch while we torture the little girl. I’ll do it.” Harry felt the others close in around Ginny. He stepped sideways so that he was right in front of her, the prophecy held up to his chest. “You’ll have to smash this if you want to attack any of us,” he told Bellatrix. “I don’t think your boss will be too pleased if you come back without it, will he?” She did not move; she merely stared at him, the tip of her tongue moistening her thin mouth. “So,” said Harry, “what kind of prophecy are we talking about anyway?” He could not think what to do but to keep talking. Neville’s arm was pressed against his, and he could feel him shaking. He could feel one of the other’s quickened breath on the back of his head. He was hoping they were all thinking hard about ways to get out of this, because his mind was blank.
(Order of the Pheonix, page 783)
This is a bit of a long quote, but I really like it. Harry gets the Death Eaters at an impasse because they can't destroy the prophecy. Then, when they threatened Ginny, he changed tactics and got them talking to buy time.
And even when he says his mind is blank:
“What?” whispered Hermione more urgently behind him. “Can this be?” said Malfoy, sounding maliciously delighted; some of the Death Eaters were laughing again, and under cover of their laughter, Harry hissed to Hermione, moving his lips as little as possible, “Smash shelves —”
...
“NOW!” yelled Harry. Five different voices behind him bellowed “REDUCTO!” Five curses flew in five different directions and the shelves opposite them exploded as they hit. The towering structure swayed as a hundred glass spheres burst apart
(Order of the Phoenix, pages 785-786 and 787)
He's still the one coming up with plans and pulling them out of there.
And if we look at his grades:
Tumblr media
(Half-Blood Prince, page 102)
He is very far from failing academically. Actually considering how little studying Harry actually does, he receives very high grades, even for Hogwarts' abysmal education standards. Harry is naturally smart enough and talented enough that with the bare minimum of effort, he can get almost exclusively Es (his failing being in History, an exam he didn't finish, and Divination, which Harry has only been thought bullshit in).
Makes me wish we saw him put in an active effort. I bet it all would've been Os with his memory.
Even Potions, which Harry is supposedly bad at, he got an E...
I just... Harry is just really smart and it kind of frustrates me how I don't see enough fics that treat Harry being clever and with a cunning streak as if it's canon, even though it very much is.
I don't know, maybe I'm just reading the wrong fics...

harry 'good at picking names' potter
“Woss your name?” Stan persisted. “Neville Longbottom,” said Harry, saying the first name that came into his head. “So—so this bus,” he went on quickly, hoping to distract Stan, “did you say it goes anywhere?”
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
-
“This is the copy of Advanced Potion-Making that you purchased from Flourish and Blotts?” “Yes,” said Harry firmly. “Then why,” asked Snape, “does it have the name ‘Roonil Wazlib’ written inside the front cover?” Harry’s heart missed a beat. “That’s my nickname,” he said.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
-
“And your first name?” “I—Vernon. Vernon Dudley.” “Check the list, Scabior,” said Greyback, and Harry heard him move sideways to look down at Ron, instead.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
-
Harry crouched down so that Albus’s face was slightly above his own. Alone of Harry’s three children, Albus had inherited Lily’s eyes. “Albus Severus,” Harry said quietly, so that nobody but Ginny could hear, and she was tactful enough to pretend to be waving to Rose, who was now on the train, “you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.”

spiderman! vernon x mechanic! reader [fluff, smut]
you’ve met multiple spidermans at your time in the hotel. they came and went quickly, but meeting vernon was refreshing. he was chill, and loved to stay with you. however, the more he came back, the more you found yourself yearning for him to stay longer.
space racer! chan x mechanic! reader [fluff, smut]

gryffindor! jongho x mechanic! reader [smut]
you had lived many lives, and jongho knew that you were a slytherin in one of them. for some reason, he had a bone to pick with you for that, often coming to taunt or insult you. it was amusing to see since you knew how desperately jongho wanted you to fight back and put him in his place.

@jilymicro-oops March Prompts Day 14: Enthralled
A continuation of yesterday's micro. This will one day make it to AO3 once my internet company decides the website isn't trying to steal my banking information.
The word enthralled is in here somewhere I promise
Here's where we left off:
"Please," he says, "come to my place. You'll be safer there." Lily softens and takes his hand in hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "James," she begins soothingly, but her friend interrupts her. "Please." Lily stares at him, registering the real fear and terror in his eyes, and she opens her mouth. "I-" But she doesn't finish, because several loud cracks break through the air around them.
And the continuation is below the cut!!
James counts five Death Eaters surrounding them, three of which he recognizes. Lucius Malfoy is one of them, standing with an air of superiority, his aristocratic features contorted in surprise as he takes in the sight in front of him.
“Didn’t expect to see you here, Potter.” Mulciber says, voice dripping with contempt. James meets his eyes, feeling a surge of revulsion at the look of triumph on the seventh year Slytherin’s face.
“What do you want?” Lily asks loudly, and James has to give her credit for not sounding the least bit scared.
A feminine laugh echoes behind them, and James doesn’t need to turn to recognize it as Bellatrix Lestrange's. "We're here to take care of a problem," she says lightly, her voice dripping with malice. Anger surges through James' veins at her words. He casts a quick glance around, noting the five wands pointed at him and Lily, and his mind races for a solution.
"We have to disapparate," Lily breathes urgently. "I don't have my license, but—" James understands. They can't afford to engage in combat. They’ll lose, and do so spectacularly. There seems to be no way out, not when they're surrounded by so many adversaries. Here they are, two sixth-year Hogwarts students pitted against five Death Eaters, all of whom seem intent on their destruction.
But when he turns to disapparate, grasping Lily's hand tightly, nothing happens.
Laughter surrounds them, and Bellatrix gives a disappointed sigh.
“You didn’t think we’d give Miss Evans an escape route, did you?” She sounds almost bored. “The wards went up the second we arrived.”
James’ heart sinks right to the ground, and he exchanges a glance with Lily. They’re well and truly trapped, then.
“You can go, Potter,” Malfoy drawls suddenly. “We aren’t here for you. Leave the girl to us and you’ll be unharmed.”
“Go to hell,” James snarls at once, and Malfoy shrugs.
“Pity,” he says. “We could have used you on our side. But if you have a death wish like Miss Evans here, who am I to stop you?”
James and Lily have only a moment to spare before the first curse erupts from Malfoy’s wand. The green light misses Lily by mere inches, making contact with Lily’s house instead. The building bursts into hot flames, melting the snow around them. Lily shrieks as glass rains around them from the broken windows, and James casts a shield charm as another beam of light flies towards them.
“Your family!” James yells over the roaring flames, and Lily calls back, firing a jet of red light that hits one of the unrecognizable Death Eaters in the face.
“They’re out! Tuney’s moved in with Vernon and Mum and Dad are in– Expulso!” Lily cries, and the pavement underneath Mulciber explodes, sending him flying through the air. James and Lily stand back to back, spells erupting from their wands, but they’re outmatched. So outmatched. And out of nowhere, Lily screams in pain, crumples to the ground, and James whirls, sees the red light surrounding her and then to Bellatrix’s wand sourcing the cruciatus curse. The woman looks at Lily, enthralled, fascinated and elated at the pain she’s causing her.
His other targets forgotten, James whips his wand to Bellatrix and cries out the first spell that comes to his mind.
"Expelliarmus!" It flies from his wand with a fierce determination, aiming to knock Bellatrix's wand out of her hand. The Death Eater is caught off guard by James's sudden attack, her focus momentarily diverted from torturing Lily. Miraculously, the spell connects, sending Bellatrix and her wand flying across the snowy landscape, the cruciatus curse abruptly stopping. Lily lies on the ground, trembling from the residual pain of the curse, but now free from its grasp.
“Are you alright?” James cries, casting another shield charm as more streaks of light overwhelm them.
“Fine,” Lily grits out, forcing herself upward onto her knees. “I’m fine.”
She’s not fine, James can tell, but at least she’s conscious. She uses him to help her stand, and while she’s shaking, she holds her wand determinedly.
“We can’t fight them like this!” Lily shouts over the roaring of the burning house behind them and the cacophony of spells as they continue to fight. The two of them duck and whirl around each other, firing curse after curse, but there’s still three Death Eaters on their feet, and Lily’s weakened. “We’ve got to break through their– move!”
James reacts a second too late, and a searing pain makes him double over. When he pulls his hand away from his side, it’s coated in scarlet blood.
“Brilliant,” he mutters. “Just brilliant.” Despite the searing pain coursing through his body, James grits his teeth and forces himself to stand upright. "We need to find a way out of here," James says, his voice strained but determined.
“Do you have any ideas?” Lily asks, forcing them both down behind the stone wall surrounding the porch as three green bursts of light streak towards them. James racks his brains, and the idea comes to him through a haze of pain.
“I do,” he says. “But it involves your house being completely destroyed.”
“More so than it already is?”
“I’m sorry about your valuables,” James just says, and when he meets Lily’s green eyes, they’re full of determination. Something about that look sends his will into overdrive and before he can stop himself, he says. “I really do love you, you know. Like, actually.” Lily blinks several times before she responds.
“I love you too,” she says, “but I don’t think now is the best time for a love confession.” James shrugs.
 “Might be the only time.”
“Don’t say that,” Lily snaps, firing a curse between the stone they’re cowering behind. “We’re getting out of this.”
“Right. Okay.” James swallows. “I really am sorry about destroying your house though.”
As James and Lily huddle behind the stone wall, spells continue to rain down around them, each explosion sending debris flying in all directions. James feels the weight of his injuries pressing down on him. Blood still pours from the gash in his side, but he pushes through the pain, his mind focused on their escape.
“Now?” Lily asks, and her eyes shine with unshed tears.
“Now,” James agrees, and points his wand at the building. Lily does the same, and in seconds, the building shakes and moans in the night air and begins to collapse, sending flames in the air. The Death Eaters, momentarily distracted by the sudden chaos, falter in their attack, giving James and Lily the opening they need. Without a moment's hesitation, they break cover and sprint away from the crumbling remains of the house.
James guesses they have about five seconds to get as far as they can before the Death Eaters recover from the sudden act of destruction, and he’s right. Behind them, they hear shouts and curses as the Death Eaters recover,
"We need to find somewhere to disapparate," James gasps as they run, his breath coming in ragged bursts.
“The trees,” Lily wheezes, pointing just ahead of them. “The ones at the park.”
The Death Eaters are only a few meters behind them now, James can hear them, and his fears are confirmed as a sudden burst of purple light streaks through the air, hitting Lily squarely in the back. She cries out in agony, her body convulsing as waves of pain wash over her. James skids to a halt, horror flooding through him as he watches Lily struggle to remain standing.
"Lily!" James shouts, his voice raw with fear and desperation. He rushes to her side, keeps her from falling to the ground, wrapping his arms around her trembling form as if he can shield her from further harm.
But then another spell comes hurtling towards them, this time aimed at James. He barely has time to react as the curse strikes his arm, tearing through flesh and bone with vicious force. Agony shoots through him, and he staggers, his arm going numb as blood pours from the wound.
“We’ve got to get moving,” He says, using his good arm to steady Lily as she stumbles.
“My legs, James,” she says breathlessly. “I can’t–”
“I know,” James replies. “We’re almost there.” They can see the trees. They’re close. “Come on!” James encourages, half carrying Lily as they make for the other side of the street into the park.
They aren’t fast enough, James thinks desperately as the voices of the Death Eaters get closer. What with his mangled arm and Lily being able to barely walk, they won’t reach the grove of trees in time. Curses fly over and around them, bouncing off the shield charm Lily’s holding fast and strong, despite her near inability to walk.
“Just a little farther, Evans,” James says. “Just–” He can tell the second they’ve moved past the wards’ boundaries. It’s like a fog is lifted, like he can finally breathe again.
“Now, James,” Lily croaks, and James doesn’t waste a second. As he falls from sheer exhaustion, James spins on his heel, and the two of them turn into darkness.
They materialize in the quiet, peaceful garden behindJames' home, but there's nothing peaceful about their arrival. They collapse to the ground immediately, the pristine snow around them rapidly staining crimson. Gasping for breath, they kneel in front of each other amidst the chilling air. Lily coughs, her face a mask of soot, blood, and snow, features contorted in pain and exhaustion. Each exhale is a struggle, and the gravity of what has just happened to them settles over the two of them like a weight.
“I think you’ll p–pass your apparition test,” Lily wheezes finally.
James laughs, and it’s the last thing he does before he blacks out.

I Miss When We First Met: Chapter 10
Tumblr media
YN Potter falls in love with Draco Malfoy. Along with that, her relationship with her brother, Harry begins to fall apart as she was sorted into Slytherin. Will Harry find out about the relationship between his enemy and his sister?
IMWWFM: Masterlist
Neville hadn't talked to you for the rest of the school year. Harry was also ignoring you, and when he wasn't he was just talking about how evil you are.
No matter what you did, he wouldn't listen to you. "Come on, Harry! You know me better than anyone, you don't actually think I'm that bad..." You say, trying to get him to drop it and apologize.
But he doesn't. "Did Neville tell you something..?" You ask. Maybe It was because he knew about Draco. You didn't think your brother would really hate you just because you were sorted into a different house.
Harry's head immediately snapped to you as he asked; "What? What would he have told me?".
"It's nothing! It's none of your business. Can you please just talk to me?" You ask, tears almost filling your eyes.
"What did you do to him!" He yells at you, his stance getting defensive. You immediately ran off to your shared room, closing the door before making sure to lock him out.
You sobbed, letting all your tears out. You didn't cry often, so when you did you also let out the build up of tears.
You cried out, thinking about how everyone hates you. Both Harry and Neville. You had convinced yourself that Neville had been sending you letters during the summer.
You knew if he had been, the Dursleys would have been tossing them out. You told yourself that's what had happened, but deep inside you knew he was still mad at you.
You unlocked the bedroom door and laid back in your bed, immediately falling asleep. It was only 5pm, but you couldn't stand staying awake any longer.
You woke up to Harry being scolded by Vernon and Petunia. You had watched as your freedom slowly got more and more limited as the school year approached.
The door slammed and you heard the door lock both you and Harry in your room. "What happened..?" You ask, rolling over from your comfortable spot in bed.
"It's none of your business. Go back to bed" he responds, sitting on his bed. You looked over at him to see him intently staring at his owl.
You turned back around and closed your eyes, falling back asleep. The next day, The Dursleys had guests coming over and they told both you and Harry to stay in your room and to make no noises.
The two of you awkwardly walked back to your room, but when you arrived you saw a house elf jumping on Harry's bed.
He introduced himself as Dobby and said he had heard a lot about the two of you. You sat on your bed, trying to tune them out as he talked to Harry.
Eventually Dobby ended up getting Harry into trouble, causing a huge fit from the Dursleys.
They put bars up on your window, complicating things even more. "Any chance of us going to Hogwarts is gone now" You said, glaring at Harry.
"I haven't done anything! If it's anyone's fault it's yours" Harry snapped back. "What have I ever done? You're the one always getting us in the trouble!" I yelled back, my eyes filling with tears.
He rolled his eyes at you and you watched a blue, flying car come into view. You watched in disbelief as he got in the car, leaving you.
"Harry, what about your sister?" Fred said as he made eye contact with you. Your eyes started to water as you fidgeted with your hands.
"She can stay here. She'd just cause more problems at Hogwarts" He said with a harsh voice.
Fred and George gave each other a look, before George backed Fred up. "Yeah, YN. Get your things and come with us. Hurry!"
You got your things and we're forced to squish into the same seat as Harry.
He gave you dirty looks the whole time as you held in your tears. All of the sudden youth been so emotional, things have been too overwhelming.
Harry knew you almost never cried, causing him to believe you were doing it for attention and to get what you want. It only ain't good him more when you showed emotions.
And when he got mad you got more emotional, causing a cycle to form.
The rest of the time with the weasleys had been akward and you hadn't felt at home again until you had gotten back to the Hogwarts Express.

Blaise doesn’t think he’s better then muggleborns or muggles, Blaise just thinks he’s better then everyone and that’s why the reader is chill spending time with him as she openly rejects the other slytherins that can’t get past their bigoted shit.
and the boy has some major Gina Linetti vibes to him but he absolutely worships the ground the reader walks on.
one day he just rolls up to Privet Drive in some ridiculously expensive car, most likely driven by a squib employed by his mother, to hangout with the reader because his mom had accompanied her newest husband on some business trip of his. the Dursleys have no idea how to react to the first time they see him playing wizard’s chess with the reader on the floor of their living room in his quidditch themed pjs.
Blaise being the only pureblood not to question or throw any repulsion towards Dursley!Reader regarding their obvious muggle stuff. On the low down he actually finds their stuff quite interesting but it’s not due to it all being muggle related but solely because it’s the Reader’s and they like it, even if he doesn’t know what exactly their knick-knacks are or what they’re used for. He also keeps quiet for the most part, even when he’s repulsed or offended so he wouldn’t outwardly judge or show too much disdain for the Reader’s muggle home or family. As long as he gets to spend some time with them then he’ll tolerate it. Besides, he’ll get an idea for himself of how these muggles treat his darling and then he’ll be able to plan how he’ll take the Reader away from them.
I can’t help but imagine Harry’s reaction to Blaise fucking Zabini being at 4 Privet Drive. He would absolutely be overwhelmed with paranoia, every muscle in his body tensed to the max ready to put himself between his cousin and protect them if need be. Who cares if he gets expelled or is thrown in Azkaban for using magic outside of school *cough* absolutely obliterating Zabini *cough*, Harry will do whatever he needs to to protect the only family he cares about.
Blaise isn’t an idiot or dense, he knows damn well that Harry isn’t happy that he’s there but Blaise isn’t there for him so he couldn’t care less. Not to mention, Harry makes it so very blatantly obvious that he does not want Blaise there and if he so much as breaths wrong in his cousin’s presence then he’ll throw hands. Meanwhile, Petunia, Vernon and Dudley are all cowered in a corner due to the sheer amount of animosity coming from both Harry and Blaise, directed towards one another. And poor Dursley!Reader is obliviously stuck in the middle of the two.
Honestly, so long as Blaise rolled up to Privet Drive in some kind of muggle way, Vernon could tolerate him being over. And given how Blaise keeps to himself and minds his tongue, Vernon wouldn’t have too much of a problem with him. He may even forget for the most part that the kid is a wizard, and a pureblood one at that. Hell, Vernon honestly probably forgets the kid is even over due to how quiet he is but he can’t deny how eerie the kid is while following the Reader around like a shadow.
If the Reader was fine with it and comfortable having Blaise over then Petunia wouldn’t throw him out but she’s keeping her eyes on this kid and how he is with her child. I mean, Harry’s already doing a pretty damn good job already at keeping a close eye on the two but Petunia will be watching like an hawk all the same. She may even pull Harry aside, still with the Reader and Blaise very much in their sights, and demand information on just who this new child is, how he knows the Reader, and especially how he got their address.
Blaise wouldn’t show it but he absolutely adores his time with his darling and getting to be near them without the watchful eyes of the other Slytherin purebloods. He wouldn’t breath a word of his adventure to the muggle world or his time with the Reader and being in their home and amongst their family. He would keep that all to himself, knowing both the danger it could bring his darling and the shame it would bring him and his mother. But whenever his mother was away while he was back home from school, Blaise would make more visits to the Reader’s when given the chance. More times then not spending the night over, even multiple nights. It’s not like his mother cares or anyone is at home waiting for him so why not be with the one person he wants to care about him.
The times the Reader stays at Hogwarts for the holidays, Blaise would do the same. No reason going home if he can’t be able to see them at some point. Besides, the other purebloods will be gone for the most part so he wouldn’t have to be too on his guard but that doesn’t mean he completely drops it either. He’ll just be able to get away with glancing over at the Reader more often then usual and being able to follow them around the corridors without anyone paying too much mind or picking up on his odd behavior. And if the Reader is in Slytherin then he can be around them more in the common room, getting to actually sit closer to them then he usually gets to.

When the sorting hat was considering putting Harry into Slytherin, was it sensing the horcrux in him or it actually thought Harry belongs to Slytherin?
I personally prefer the interpretation that Harry could be in Slytherin. It highlights the twin imagery with Tom Riddle and it makes for a more interesting protagonist shade ("strange likenesses"). Like Dumbledore says at end of CoS - he has qualities that make him ideal for the House: cunning (the way he manages Vernon, Slughorn - so many small little scenes highlighting this), resourcefulness (I mean...this is the boy who improvises and adapts xD) and disregard for rules.
So Harry could be in Slytherin. :)

Hello! I have seen this question debated many times and I wanted to know your take on it cause I find your theories very compelling. Do you think harry should've been in Slytherin? Does he have what it "takes" to be a Slytherin? Is it because of voldemort's soul in him that lead the sorting hat to even suggest he could be in Slytherin? I know this is not one question but I would like to know your opinion on this topic in general!
First of all, thank you for the kind words! 😊
As for the questions, well, you've asked more than one question, but this ask kinda gives me a good reason to talk about how Harry isn't some golden Gryffindor. He actually has some anger issues and he most definitely has what it "takes" for Slytherin.
I'll start with the last question and then go backward, actually.
Did the hat consider Slytherin house just because of the Horcrux?
I don't think so.
I mean, Harry is incredibly clever, magically powerful, and has a cunning streak a mile wide all on his own. I'd actually go as far as to say he's more cunning, ruthless, and resourceful than many of the Slytherins we see in the books. So his own traits definitely are in line with a Slytherin sorting, Horcrux or no Horcrux.
We can try and discern if the Horcrux has an effect on Harry's personality then, and if its influence is seen like that. I'd say that I don't think so either.
Tom and Harry, while they have their similarities, are very different people. They both have a bad temper (although they react to anger differently), but Harry has low self-esteem whereas Tom thinks he is the best (while still hating himself). They're both stubborn, but Tom is much more obsessive than Harry in pursuit of his goals. Harry cares for justice and isn't willing to hurt innocents, Tom doesn't really care about any of that he cares for efficiency. If the Horcrux was influencing Harry's personality, I'd expect to see more similarities between them that go deeper than that.
So, I don't think the hat only offered Slytherin because of the Horcrux. Harry is a Slytherin in his own right.
Does Harry have what it "takes" for Slytherin?
So, I honestly got really excited at the sight of this sentence. See I love Harry, that's no secret. But one of the things I love about him is that he isn't the perfect noble hero. He can be angry, and cruel and ruthless. But he has a sense of justice, he wouldn't wish harm on someone innocent, but someone who did harm to him, or was mean to him or someone he cares for... then Harry can be terrifying when he wants to be.
So, now I'm going to go through some (I have so many more examples of this, and the examples here are mostly books 1-5 since that's what I had on hand) of my collection of quotes showing Harry Potter's vindictiveness and anger.
Harry's response to "have a good summer" at the end of his first year:
“Oh, I will,” said Harry, and they were surprised at the grin that was spreading over his face. “They don’t know we’re not allowed to use magic at home. I’m going to have a lot of fun with Dudley this summer.…
(PS, page 221)
This is Harry's (very justified) vindictiveness we see towards the Dursleys many times in the books. He uses the idea of magic to scare them and is gleeful at the thought of Dudley's fear. Harry is very much chill with vengeance.
(PoA, page 435)
Same as above, just Sirius Black as the threat instead of magic.
Yes, thought Harry, that looked all right. There was no point putting in the dream; he didn’t want it to look as though he was too worried.
(GoF, page 25)
Harry can and does lie and conceal information, even from people he trusts (like Sirius) if he thinks it'll be better not to tell them something. Whether that is for his own image or for what they would think.
“Potter! Weasley! What are you doing?” It was Professor McGonagall, and her mouth was the thinnest of thin lines. “We were — we were —” Ron stammered. “We were going to — to go and see —” “Hermione,” said Harry. Ron and Professor McGonagall both looked at him. “We haven’t seen her for ages, Professor,” Harry went on hurriedly, treading on Ron’s foot, “and we thought we’d sneak into the hospital wing, you know, and tell her the Mandrakes are nearly ready and, er, not to worry —” Professor McGonagall was still staring at him, and for a moment, Harry thought she was going to explode, but when she spoke, it was in a strangely croaky voice. “Of course,” she said, and Harry, amazed, saw a tear glistening in her beady eye.
(CoS, page 259)
And he clearly can lie well, even at 12.
But Harry wasn’t going to stand for this. Gone were the days when he had been forced to take every single one of the Dursleys’ stupid rules. He wasn’t following Dudley’s diet, and he wasn’t going to let Uncle Vernon stop him from going to the Quidditch World Cup, not if he could help it. Harry took a deep, steadying breath and then said, “Okay, I can’t see the World Cup. Can I go now, then? Only I’ve got a letter to Sirius I want to finish. You know — my godfather.” He had done it. He had said the magic words. Now he watched the purple recede blotchily from Uncle Vernon’s face, making it look like badly mixed black currant ice cream.
...
He stopped there to enjoy the effect of these words. He could almost see the cogs working under Uncle Vernon’s thick, dark, neatly parted hair. If he tried to stop Harry writing to Sirius, Sirius would think Harry was being mistreated. If he told Harry he couldn’t go to the Quidditch World Cup, Harry would write and tell Sirius, who would know Harry was being mistreated. There was only one thing for Uncle Vernon to do. Harry could see the conclusion forming in his uncle’s mind as though the great mustached face were transparent. Harry tried not to smile, to keep his own face as blank as possible. And then — “Well, all right then. You can go to this ruddy . . . this stupid . . . this World Cup thing.
(GoF, page 33)
Again, vindictiveness and manipulation of Vernon through fear. Not only that, but Harry can keep his calm and keep his face blank even at 14 for the sake of getting something he wants.
“Get stuffed, Malfoy,” said Harry. “C’mon, Ron. . . .” “Oh yeah, you were staying with them this summer, weren’t you, Potter?” sneered Malfoy. “So tell me, is his mother really that porky, or is it just the picture?” “You know your mother, Malfoy?” said Harry — both he and Hermione had grabbed the back of Ron’s robes to stop him from launching himself at Malfoy — “that expression she’s got, like she’s got dung under her nose? Has she always looked like that, or was it just because you were with her?” Malfoy’s pale face went slightly pink. “Don’t you dare insult my mother, Potter.” “Keep your fat mouth shut, then,” said Harry, turning away.
(GoF, page 204)
Harry has a bark (all of the above quotes are Harry having a bark). He can and does shoot back as good as he gets.
Harry isn't all bark though, he's got a bit. Harry's anger is palpable and so very real and I love seeing it:
just as Uncle Vernon burst out of the dining room, his trouser leg in bloody tatters. “COME BACK IN HERE!” he bellowed. “COME BACK AND PUT HER RIGHT!” But a reckless rage had come over Harry. He kicked his trunk open, pulled out his wand, and pointed it at Uncle Vernon. “She deserved it,” Harry said, breathing very fast. “She deserved what she got. You keep away from me.”  He fumbled behind him for the latch on the door. “I’m going,” Harry said. “I’ve had enough.”
(PoA, page 30)
Again, Harry has his vindictive strike. (Obviously, Marge had it coming, but that's also what Harry is thinking).
A boiling hate erupted in Harry’s chest, leaving no place for fear. For the first time in his life, he wanted his wand back in his hand, not to defend himself, but to attack . . . to kill.
(PoA, page 339)
“You killed my parents,” said Harry, his voice shaking slightly, but his wand hand quite steady.
(PoA, page 341)
Harry, at 13, was fully willing to kill who he believed led to his parents' deaths. And more:
So what if he had to kill the cat too? It was in league with Black. . . . If it was prepared to die, trying to protect Black, that wasn’t Harry’s business. . . .
(PoA, page 342)
He's willing to kill Hermione's cat if it stands in his way.
Harry stood there, feeling suddenly empty. He hadn’t done it. His nerve had failed him. Black was going to be handed back to the dementors.
(PoA, page 343)
Harry Potter, at 13, laments that he didn't have the nerve to kill Sirius himself. He thinks he should've killed himself. He sees it as a failure that justice would be served by someone other than him.
Harry sat there staring at Snape as the lesson began, picturing horrific things happening to him. . . . If only he knew how to do the Cruciatus Curse . . . he’d have Snape flat on his back like that spider, jerking and twitching. . . .
(GoF, page 300)
Harry felt oddly separate from everyone around him, whether they were wishing him good luck or hissing “We’ll have a box of tissues ready, Potter ” as he passed. It was a state of nervousness so advanced that he wondered whether he mightn’t just lose his head when they tried to lead him out to his dragon, and start trying to curse everyone in sight.
(GoF, page 347)
The above quotes are both situations Harry was willing and wishing to curse people. Even Crucio Snape. He's not as noble and righteous and golden as many fans and characters in the books make him out to be...
If Dudley’s friends saw him sitting here, they would be sure to make a beeline for him, and what would Dudley do then? He wouldn’t want to lose face in front of the gang, but he’d be terrified of provoking Harry. . . . It would be really fun to watch Dudley’s dilemma; to taunt him, watch him, with him powerless to respond . . . and if any of the others tried hitting Harry, Harry was ready — he had his wand . . . let them try . . . He’d love to vent some of his frustration on the boys who had once made his life hell —
(OotP, page 11)
And sometimes, Harry wishes for an excuse to fight. An excuse to take his anger out on someone. (He has a lot of anger in him)
Smirking all over his pointed face, Draco Malfoy leaned across Harry and seized the largest bowtruckle. “Maybe,” said Malfoy in an undertone, so that only Harry could hear him, “the stupid great oaf’s got himself badly injured.” “Maybe you will if you don’t shut up,” said Harry out of the side of his mouth.
(OotP, page 260)
He's threatening and witty.
“Oh no,” said Hermione, quaking so badly that her knees gave way. “Oh, that was horrible. And he [Gwamp] might kill them [the centaurs] all. . . .” “I’m not that fussed, to be honest,” said Harry bitterly.
(OotP, page 759)
And when it comes to people he doesn't consider innocent, or ones he doesn't care for, even if they never harmed him, Harry is still vindictive. The centaurs mistreated Firenze and Hagrid, so Harry doesn't really care if Gwamp kills them all.
That being said, he is more concerned about Sirius in the above scene.
And he can and does cast unforgivables easily by the later books:
Hatred rose in Harry such as he had never known before. He flung himself out from behind the fountain and bellowed “Crucio!” Bellatrix screamed. The spell had knocked her off her feet, but she did not writhe and shriek with pain as Neville had — she was already on her feet again, breathless, no longer laughing. Harry dodged behind the golden fountain again — her counterspell hit the head of the handsome wizard, which was blown off and landed twenty feet away, gouging long scratches into the wooden floor.
(OotP, page 809)
Harry raised the hawthorn wand beneath the cloak, pointed it at the old goblin, and whispered, for the first time in his life, “Imperio!” A curious sensation shot down Harry’s arm, a feeling of tingling, warmth that seemed to flow from his mind, down the sinews and veins connecting him to the wand and the curse it had just cast. The goblin took Bellatrix’s wand, examined it closely, and then said, “Ah, you have had a new wand made, Madam Lestrange!”
(DH, pages 152-453)
As Amycus spun around, Harry shouted, “Crucio!” The Death Eater was lifted off his feet. He writhed through the air like a drowning man, thrashing and howling in pain, and then, with a crunch and a shattering of glass, he smashed into the front of a bookcase and crumpled, insensible, to the floor. “I see what Bellatrix meant,” said Harry, the blood thundering through his brain, “you need to really mean it.”

So, I think Harry definitely has what it takes. He's clever, he can be ruthless, and he's capable of lying and hiding secrets when he feels it's the best option. He can hide his emotions when he really needs to, even if he rarely does. Actually, only in book 6, Harry starts sharing everything with Ron and Hermione on Dumbledore’s advice. Up to that point, he kept quite a bit to himself. And when someone wrongs him, he can and often will swing back.
And last but not least, should he have been in Slytherin?
So, this is an interesting question, because "should" can have two meanings.
1. Should've for the story — as in what is best for the narrative.
2. Should've for the character — in universe, which house the sorting hat should've picked.
So, for the first one, my answer is no. Gryffindor was the right choice for Harry for the narrative of the books as they are. Gryffindor is essentially the opposite of Slytherin and represents a choice more than just the traits and values the house represents. It represents Harry's choice even though he could've been a Slytherin he chose Gryffindor. And it's a constant choice with every heroic act. (personally, I'm not the biggest fan of equating school houses with morality, but it's effective in creating a clear narrative)
And while not all Slytherins are evil and not all Gryffindors are good, a Slytherin Harry Potter would've resulted in a very different story than what we have. So, for the story we ended up getting to happen the way it did, yes, Harry needed to be a Gryffindor.
For the second, maybe. Personally, I believe people (even if they aren't hatstalls) have more than one house they can fit into. Harry is both a Slytherin and a Gryffindor, and neither of them is more wrong or right for him as a person. I think deciding which one of them is best for him is up to a coin flip (and when in his life the question is asked).
He can be ruthless and cunning like a Slytherin. Selfless and courageous like a Gryffindor. He values justice like a Gryffindor. But he also has the selective loyalty of Slytherin to their own.
Point is, there isn't really a "should", because both suit him and he would’ve done well in both. Do I think Slytherin Harry is an incredibly fun concept to consider? Yes. Did I read way too many fics with this premise and would read more? Yes. Do I think he might've fit into Slytherin better than Gryffindor? Well, not necessarily.
Harry is much quieter than most in Gryffindor, but I think the constant scheming and image-keeping in Slytherin would be exhausting to him. He just doesn't care about all the gossip and politicalizing (something that occasionally leaves him out of the loop also in Gryffindor). So, again, both suit him about equally. The difference is that we get a very different story depending on his house.

''Harry was a necromancer and looked it, black fingertips and black tinted lips. He kept flirting with Voldemort and Voldemort felt uncomfortable being flirted by an adult in a child’s body. When Harry took an aging potion he was immediately attracted. I vividly remember a line from Harry about how he wouldn’t mind being a concubine because it sounded relaxing after they had sex.''
