‘baby?’ wanda called out, walking through your shared house, stopping when she heard your gentle breathing coming from the kitchen.

she pushed open the door fully and smiled softly, walking over to you as quietly as she could.

you were laid with your head on the table, facing the side. a colouring book and various coloured pencils were scattered around you.

on the open page of the book, a hastily coloured butterfly with the words ‘for mama’ were scrawled upon the paper.

wanda grinned, stroking your hair whilst you slept and bending down to your level, kissing your forehead in an attempt to wake you up as nicely as possible. you squirmed slightly, reaching out for her and mumbling.

‘hi, little one!’ she beamed, picking you up and putting you on her waist.

you rubbed your eyes, yawning and laying your head on her shoulder.

‘it’s bedtime now, darling. you’re so sleepy.’ wanda said softly as she began walking toward the stairs and to your bedroom.

‘zzz?’ you questioned, being too small to form proper sentences.

‘yes, baby, it’s zzz time.’ she replied, laying you down in bed and getting in next to you, pulling the blanket over both of you.

wrapping her arms around you, she laid you on her chest, stroking your hair softly.

‘i love you’ she whispered, pulling you closer to her.

the minute you woke up, you knew it was going to be a sad day. you also knew that you just wanted your mommy.

walking downstairs as fast as you could, you stumbled into the kitchen, where you heard wanda’s voice coming from, and looked at her.

she stood on the phone with someone, talking rather angrily. when she noticed you, she held up her hand as if to say ‘not now’, not realising how small of a headspace you were in.

immediately, your eyes filled up with tears and you turned and ran to your bedroom.

a few minutes later, wanda was knocking on your door.

‘babe, get up.’ she shouted, to which you didn’t reply. you were sat huddled under blankets, sniffling.

when she received no reply, she pushed open the door.

‘darling?’ she stood in front of you, a questioning look on her face.

you removed the blankets from your face and threw a stuffed animal at wanda, making her take a step back in confusion.

now realising that you were probably little, wanda crouched down next to your bed, picking up the stuffie you threw at her and handing it back to you.

you glared at her angrily, still upset that she had ignored you earlier when you wanted her the most.

she pouted, attempting to move towards you to kiss your forehead.

you kicked your legs, moving away from her and beginning to sob again.

she sighed, standing up.

‘okay, love. mommy’s here when you want me. i’ll be downstairs.’ she turned to walk away.

‘NO’ you shouted, causing her to startle and turn back towards you.

‘why are you shouting baby?’ she questioned, folding her arms.

you whimpered, staring at her.

sighing once more, she sat next to you on the bed.

‘why are you misbehaving, little one?’ wanda asked gently.

‘mama… ignore me’ you stammered through your tears, burying your face in your pillow.

her mind flashed back to the morning when she had dismissed you, and she realised you probably had been little then, too.

‘oh, baby. i’m so sorry, i’m so so sorry. can i come lay with you?’

you removed your head from its resting place and nodded at her, just wanting your mommy again.

wanda laid next to you, moving your head to rest on her chest, shushing you.

‘i love you.’ she whispered, ‘and i am really sorry, darling.’ she said, clearly regretting what she did.

‘s okay mommy’ you replied, yawning, finally feeling comfortable now that you were in her arms.

she smiled, kissing your little forehead.
