led her away
It was like the same nights that Mikasa despised, those sleepless nights where her mind doesn't seem to want to go rest. However this time, her thoughts were louder and clearer than before. Like a fog that used to cloud up her mind, and now gusted by the wind which made everything crystal-clear. So she realized what has to be done.
Her feet seemed to drag her to someplace she didn't even know, but she let herself flow. She didn’t struggle. Of course, the usual place where she would go when she gets trouble sleeping – the balcony. The cold breeze had always made her relax, and her anxious thoughts were like being blown away by the wind whenever she was there.
But that night, something wasn't right.
Once she reached her sanctuary, a figure was already there, standing and facing the distance. The night wasn't that dark and it was thanks to the gleaming disc of light at the sky, the moon shone all over the horizon.
It was the person she wanted to see the least at the moment, and it was too late to draw back nor to leave the area without being noticed because he had already seen her.
"What are you doing here, Ackerman?" He asked in his usual stern voice. It was Levi, her captain, her comrade, and the main reason for her restless nights.
She stood, feet stuck frozen to the ground, lips were tight as if it was zipped or locked or something. But she knew she had to answer. It wasn't the perfect time to be mesmerized by how his eyes glimmered because of the moon's reflection, or the way his hair was being tousled perfectly by the wind–
"It's past midnight, you're supposed to be sleeping." He said.
This time, Mikasa's senses seemed to have been brought back to her body, and with clenched fists, she replied, “I was just supposed to take some fresh air, Sir.”
By the looks of it, he didn't really appeared convinced with her response. He stared intently with looks that could kill, and his dark eyes squinted towards her. However, he turned his gaze away from her and returned to watch the horizon, "okay, as you must."
Mikasa let out a deep sigh, at least not physically, but sighed inside her head. She began lifting her feet and walked towards the rail of the balcony. Levi stood there just a few paces beside her, which allowed her to switch her eyes from looking at the sky full of stars and to his face as he watched the heavens as well.
The silence was deafening, but for a few occasions, they would hear a cat meowing, a dog barking, or some clamorous drunk men from the distance. They might be on the balcony, but they were only a few feet higher than the ground, which made the noise from the ground audible enough.
At last, the silence was broken when Levi stated a question, "what made you awake at this late hour?"
Mikasa spun to look at him, but he wasn't looking at her direction. Is he talking to me? She thought, but she recognized Captain Levi wouldn't be conversating with himself, especially if someone else is present around him. So she decided it's best to answer his question.
"I can't sleep." She said plainly, but her eyes said differently. And the way she looked at him was different for certain.
This time, he looked at her in the eye and questioned, "Is there something that's bothering you?"
The question surprised her, and it may be odd but now, she's the one who missed his gaze and leaned at the handrail. The wind suddenly blew a cold gentle wind so she gently heaved her scarf to hide her mouth and nose.
"I... I've already talked to Sasha about it, but I don't think I should follow her advice."
Levi's eyes widen in surprise and muttered, "Oh". But short while has passed, and he had softened his look at her, and turned back to look at the distance. His eyes returned to its typical expression and huffed said, "If it's about some stupid shit, I'd prefer not to talk about it right now."
"But it's not–" Mikasa exclaimed, she herself was stunned at her impulsive actions. "No, it's kind of a serious matter. Sasha thinks I like someone."
Saying those words, especially to someone else than Sasha, one way or another made Mikasa uncomfortable, yet, she couldn't stop herself from telling him about it.
Actually, she had always wanted to tell him a lot of things:  stories she would hear from her friends throughout lunch or training, and some of her experiences as a soldier. She would love to tell him all about it, but she knows he wouldn't bother paying attention anyway.
"What do you mean?" He asked, a hint of interest and curiosity in his tone of speech.
Mikasa's mind wandered to a lot of things, possible events, and scenarios that could occur if she would continue their discussion about her. But all of them lead to one ending – to tell the truth – in which she has fully accepted.
"When this particular person is nearby, I, I get anxious and breathless, and somewhat uneasy...
“I... I never forget that I am a soldier, and as a soldier, I have a. obligation to serve the Scouting Legion, and also there's, there's Eren... I have to protect Eren at all costs."
Letting all those thoughts loose from her head made her tense at first, but in the end, it was a relief. Mikasa fidgeted her fingers all throughout her speech, yet her eyes not once left her feet.
Watching Mikasa next to him displaying such discomposure was never new to him. He had seen this behavior of hers a few times before, especially when they were alone together. Never has he seen her like this with other people, or in the public. Speculations encircled Levi's mind, and surely, he needed answers for those questions.
"If that person causes you such misery, I think it's probably best that you do something about it," he shifted his body to face her as he crossed his arms on his chest, "would you care to tell me whom you're pertaining to?"
Mikasa stood in silence, a hand clutched on her scarf to hide her face. If it weren't nighttime, people could've easily seen her face resembling the color of a tomato, and she wouldn’t want him to see her like that.
  "No", she replied bluntly.
  "Why is that?"
  "I don't want to."
It must've felt right when she walked and moved a few paces from him. Her back was now facing Levi, eyes still glued to her feet.
Levi, on the other hand, has his eyes on the female in front of him, hands no longer crossed in front of him. Instead, a hand was on his waist, while the other rests gently on the handrail.
He watched her with an expression calm as the night, something that he has a talent on – remaining a tranquil facade even though the mind's distressed – A handful skill, he thought.
"Captain, you–" Mikasa hesitated, and Levi noticed. But she inhaled deep, and exhaled with the same vigor. "You are the person I'm talking about."
She gave the best she could to let those words out of her mind and out of her chest. And she had decided to turn to look at him, at least see how he's reacting to what she's just revealed.
                                                                                             Nonetheless, their eyes didn't meet.
He was looking in the same direction he was fronting the first time she came. His body might be facing her but his eyes were not. And Mikasa realized he would never face her in the same manner she looks up to him. He would never replicate the feelings I have for him.
She stayed put, waiting for a response, and her patience rewarded her. But it wasn't the one she wanted to hear.
"Go back to your bed, Ackerman."
Mikasa's eyes widened, her mouth dropped after what he said. He may look calm like before, but something was different in his voice. It was plain, empty, and it felt like it was spoken by someone who has no emotions at all. Someone who wasn't human.
  "But Capt-"
"I said go back to your room, that's an order."
It was the end of the road for her, Mikasa pondered. She could almost feel her eyes burning, like being filled up with water. Blinking fast made the burning and tears go away, so she did – like always.
Her clenched fist smacked to her chest, the spine on her back was straight like a proper soldier she is, and she saluted.
She turned her back from him and left the place. It was as if she was never there in the first place, something that she had always tried before for other circumstances, yet she knows she couldn't.
  "Fuck."
Mikasa heard him snapped before completely leaving the area and letting her feet drag her again. It was soft yet audible, rough yet fragile, hard yet easy to break.
But, she had already made her resolution to keep her emotions out of the way from doing her mission.

perfect dawn
It was dark, however, she found her way.
A creaking sound could be heard after every step Mikasa takes as her body weight drops to her feet, then to the cold, wooden floor. Her eyes seemed to have adjusted fully well to the pitch black eyeshot, and certainly, she had been there many times. Apparently, there's no need for her to use her sight.
She finally reached her destination, standing quietly in front of a door, and began grabbing the doorknob.
'Of course, it's unlocked', she thought as she turned the knob and soundlessly entered the room, which was also dim as well. The only source of light comes from the small window beside the bed across the room.
As she slowly went near to the bed, a soft smile pursed her lips upon seeing the lone body curled up on the mattress. Mikasa sat on the edge, careful enough to not wake up the sleeping figure beside her.
Mikasa stared at the man beside her, and she definitely felt her face warm as her hand reached his messy hair, dark as a raven’s, and admired how soft and smooth it is. Her eyes then turned to the window.
Through the glass, she watched as the blackness of the skies being overcome by the light. For her, it was a wonderful sight, indeed, and she had always appreciated every pigment that was visible: the softness of pink, the hints of purple, and a radiant of orange all over. Yes, the master of the day is about to arise.
She didn't realize how long she's gazing with awe at the pleasing view, and that her mind had been wandering the entire time until he moved beside her. Levi put his arms around her waist, his face almost touching her thigh. Surprised but calm, she looked at him and caressed his hair again.
A groan escaped his mouth as the newly-awakened person shifted so he could speak. "What time did you wake up?" He muttered.
"4 AM." She replied, a hand gently playing the strands of his dark locks.
He hummed as he squeezed his fingers around her waist, and continued, "Where have you been? What time is it?"
"I was training… and it's already five, sleepyhead."
From there, Mikasa turned her body thus she could take a glimpse at him properly. Levi then lifted his head, looked at her and scowled, his eyebrows nearly touched each other. "You did took a shower, right?"
"No."
She was quick to move, and in an instant, she has lowered her face to kiss him. However, he was fast as well. He flinched and hissed, "What the fuck?"
Guessing beforehand correctly the events that would occur, and then seeing his reaction, Mikasa let out a giggle. She put her hand on her mouth to suppress her laughter, not wanting to make such noise.
Levi watched her as she laughed, and without realizing, he already had a smile on his face. Something he wouldn't allow for anyone else to see, except for her.
"Of course I did, you clean freak. I know how you love your sheets smooth and neat. Even the floor’s squeaky clean, I noticed." She replied successfully from fits of laughter.
"You brat, come here." Levi pulled her neck towards him until their lips touched. It was a split second, but he definitely felt her smile during their kiss, and she did felt his, too.
After a few moments, he withdrew from her, his eyes focused on her own as they both grasped to breathe. Mikasa rested a hand on his chest, and observed that as his chest heaved up and down, so was her arm.
"I'm so glad I waited on you." He remarked, causing Mikasa's eyes to widen, and then she relaxed.
With a smile, she answered, "and I'm surprised you actually waited for me."
This time, Levi shifted to sit up straight, his back on the headboard, and smirked, "Of course, why wouldn't I?"
"But, we could have died, you know. How am I supposed to know that you have feelings for me if I'm already buried deep in the ground?" She retorted.
"That's why I did the best I could to keep you alive, and to keep myself from dying, too." Mikasa noted to herself how his voice turned deeper, and swore that she sensed the air thicken and the atmosphere denser.
Nonetheless, she knew there was nothing to be anxious about, for all that matters is that he was there and so was she. Mikasa moved her body and tilted her head so she could rest on his torso. Feeling his chest rise and fall, and listening to his heartbeat has always made her relax at some point.
"Now that I'm already an adult, I could do whatever I want," Mikasa, with a sly expression, turned and looked at Levi.
"You may be an adult now but you're still my brat, you hear me." The corner of his mouth lifted up as he kissed her hair.
Mikasa hummed and she smiled softly. They kissed for one more time, draping her arms on his slim waist. He did the same to her and they remained on like that, just as the waves of the sun fully swarmed the lengths of the room.

good night
"Ackerman."
The soft, low voice echoed in the dim room, the only source of light illuminating was from the window. Levi's eyes were gazed upon the back of the woman beside him on the bed, obviously turned away from him. A single sheet of fabric covered her lean body, but the exposed areas certainly felt cold. He received no reply, not even a small movement came from her.
Still watching her intently as he released the tension from his shoulder blades, he continued, "You should go back to your room, Mikasa."
Finally, her whole body shifted and eventually, she was out of the bed. Her skin longed for the warmth that the thin fabric gave her, because now her whole body seemed uncovered. She reached down to grab her clothes on the chair. Her eyes turned to look at the man she left on the bed. Even in the dark, their eyes met. She smiled.
He averted his eyes towards the near window, and noticed how dark the room was. A while ago, everything was cloudy and a blur -- except for the view of Mikasa's bare body below him, and the vulnerable expression on her face which he wanted only for himself.
Levi heard footsteps, she was already leaving, a hand was ready to turn the doorknob.
"Good night, Mikasa."
She stopped, and he couldn't ponder whether she was surprised or not from his words.
"Okay, Captain."
When was about to open the door, she heard his voice again
"Levi..."
Curious as to why he would call her by his name, she turned around until her feet brought her back to the bed -- to him.
They were close. She sat on the edge of the bed, and he moved until he could touch her face with the back of his fingertips. She shivered from his touch, the same feeling when he first did it. It was long ago, but she could remember how her heart raced, and her breath got caught under her throat.
"Call me Levi..." He caressed her hair, tucking them behind her ear. Then, she kissed him.
It wasn't long before he responded. Their lips danced like it was the first time, and Levi felt the heat from her skin everytime he touched her.
Both moved away from the moment, and immediately, a smile was formed on Mikasa's face. She began making her way back to the spot where she almost left the lone man, and opened the door. Before completely disappearing from his sight, she said,
"Good night, Levi."

"Remember, don’t you ever take your mask off. And as much as possible, Draco, maintain that one-meter distance from people, okay?"
Draco’s eyes only trailed the hips of the woman in front of him, her hair tousled as she scribbled hurriedly on a small piece of white paper a few words. Sluggishly, he leaned his back on the counter as he eyed her, carefully tracing her waist from the silk, laced nightgown, and watched as her curls fell carelessly on her shoulders.
It's been weeks since the enhanced community quarantine of their city. No one’s permitted to go outside unless to buy food and medical supplies. Classes were cancelled and no schools, shopping malls, and parks were open to the public. Fortunately for the Malfoys, they own a huge corporation that allows him to work from home, also with his wife.
"Now, here is the list of the things you have to buy," Hermione spun around, looking face-to-face with a smirking blonde-haired Malfoy, "are you even listening to a word I've said?"
Her eyebrows knitted together as she placed a hand on her hip — the other almost crumpling the whole paper in her hand — and weight all exerted on one of her leg. However, she only received a chuckle as a response from the man in front of her.
"You're gorgeous..." He intently stared at her as their eyes met, and it wasn't long enough until he noticed her face turned red, eyebrows more furrowed than before.
Clearing her throat, she straightened her back and stood in an I-am-in-charge stance.
"Mr. Malfoy, that is absolutely an unnecessary comment," she darted her eyes at Draco, who was lazily leaning against the marble counter. He gave another low chuckle while running a hand on his hair.
Without a hint of surprise, his hands were suddenly on her waist, pulling her as her nightgown flowed into the air, their stomachs touching.
Only a few more centimeters and their lips were in close proximity. Hermione's eyes fluttered as she felt his breath on her face, caressing her firm skin.
"But is it wrong to tell you the truth, Mrs. Malfoy," his face inched closer, "that you're the most gorgeous woman in my life, love... utterly stunning."
Hermione didn’t realize that her arms were already draped all over his husband’s shoulders, heart beating quicker as lightning.
"Oh, you and your flattery, Draco," she unclasped her slender arms from him and took the mask beside him. A moment after, it was already covering half of Draco's face, his ocean eyes only visible.
"Be careful, okay? I want you to come home to me, safe and whole..." She murmured under her breath as her arms wrapped his neck.
"I promise, I'll be cautious, and you're going to see your handsome husband come home later," the mask caused his voice quite muffled, but Hermione understood his words perfectly which made her scoff.
Draco slowly slid his mask onto his neck as he pulled Hermione with his other hand on her back, and his lips touched her warm and soft ones, all eyes closed as they pulled each other even more closer.

"Are you ready to lose, Potter?" Malfoy scoffed at Harry, who shot him a glare.
"You're not the best seeker, Malfoy. And you should be the one getting ready to go home crying." Harry replied.
"We'll see about that, scarhead," Draco snarled. "I'm not gonna get beaten up by Granger in a silly bet.
"Gryffindor versus Slytherin, who's going to win this match!" The commentator, Lee Jordan, shouted.
Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint took each other's hands and shook them.

Invisible Chapter 2 - Replaceable
Tumblr media
Hermione POV
Hermione couldn’t breathe.
Ever since she’d found herself in a tussle of words with Draco Malfoy, standing close enough to him to smell his spicy cologne and see the shimmering silver of his irises, she’d forgotten how. She wanted to believe it wasn’t because she’d grown weaker somehow. She wanted to believe she hadn’t been affected by him in any sort of untoward way, because she knew how guilty she felt skulking into the Ministry without anyone’s knowledge. What would Harry and Ron say if they knew what she’d done, helping him? What would they say if they knew how intense Malfoy’s gaze was when he looked at her? If they knew how her heart jumped when he’d raised his voice?
Hermione felt glad that she’d chosen to use the generous reward the Ministry of Magic had bestowed upon her for her war contributions to purchase her own cottage in the countryside. That meant that when she’d slipped into her beige pencil skirt and smoothed her curls back into a tight hairstyle, there’d been no one to question her destination for the day.
She, unfortunately, forgot that both the Daily Prophet and a certain buggy woman had a way of mucking things up. And now that she was getting prepared to go to Diagon Alley and pick up her supplies for the year, she wished she hadn’t procrastinated it so much and had more time. Because, she thought while staring down at the paper the next morning, it would be quite difficult to shop on the day that she was meant to go to the train. Which was, coincidentally, on the morrow.
A Secret Liaison Between Dark and Light? Hermione Granger appears at the Ministry of Magic to lend aid for the Malfoy family on the day of Lucius Malfoy’s sentencing.
Groaning, Hermione tossed the paper onto the hardwood behind her and began to count. It was exactly three seconds, or rather a solid two-and-a-quarter seconds, before a letter soared neatly from the depths of her small fireplace and landed on the table before her. The handwriting on the front unmistakably belonged to Harry Potter.

the end of all things
"Promise me... promise me one thing..." Draco whispered, voice husky underneath his breath. His platinum blonde hair was quite disheveled, a few scratches were visible on his pale cheeks, and his usual neat clothes now wrinkled on his body, looking similar to a dirty rug. Draco Malfoy was a pure mess after the battle.
However, he wasn't the only one disarrayed in sight. Even the woman in front of him, Hermione Granger, stood with clothes stained with mud, in addition to her face with noticeable cuts and dust as well.
She swallowed hard, knowing that at any moment, she will breakdown into tears. With fists tightly curled up on her sides, Hermione replied softly, "Anything."
Draco stepped towards her, not minding the other people in the scene looking at the two of them. "Years will come to pass, but promise me... you will continue to live for me. Promise me, Hermione." Stepping closer furthermore, his hand reached her ruddy cheek, then tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. She didn't mind the grubbiness of his hands, or the callous on his fingers; Hermione wanted to feel his touch more than before.
"No, no, no... please don't say that. I promise... I will always be yours, Draco." Tears began to fall from her eyes as she grasped the sleeve of his raised arm.
She felt a chill on her back as his hand touched her cold, damp cheek, and gently wiped her tears dry. With a hand cupping her face while the other held tight on her arm, he pulled her until their lips met. Hermione shut her eyes firm whilst her tears continued to fall from her closed eyes.
This time, tears trickled from Draco's own eyes. The tears he kept hidden for so long from his parents, his friends, and from her... he released them alongside with the pain and fear he's been concealing in his chest.
Afraid he might ruin the perfect moment he's been waiting for too long, he slowly titled his head to the side, moving his mouth to deepen their kiss. She reciprocated his action, embracing his neck with her delicate arms as she tiptoed on her toes to reach his height. Neither of them paid attention to those around them, probably watching them as they kissed and cried their hearts out.
Pulling away from the heat of the moment, none of them opened their eyes just yet. With no other protest, Hermione peeked her eyes slightly and swiftly landed on his arms to kiss him again. With all his strength left, Draco embraced her waist with his arms, sending her up in the air for what seemed like a few seconds during their kiss.
Once they have pulled away, he locked his silver eyes at her chocolate ones, smiled at the sight of her red, swollen eyes and velvet cheeks. He lifted her chin with his index finger.
"I am going to miss you..." he whispered, probably wanting only Hermione to hear his statement.
"I will miss you too," her eyebrows knitted together in agony as her eyes shifted to the swarm dementors flying from afar. She felt her heart sank in pain as she tugged on his sleeved, "I will wait for you..."
She locked her gaze only on his own, silently reminiscing the moments they had together at Hogwarts, secret dates at the library, and before life has become complicated for them. She smiled at him before being distracted from a person standing beside them.
"Hermione... it's time to go."
The brown-haired Gryffindor turned to see her best friend, Harry, stood with a weak smile on his face. Beside him was Ron, and both of them looked as disheveled as her. With a nod at Harry, she turned to see Draco with two unknown men beside him, putting chains on his wrists. She understood it is the moment.
Hermione walked towards in between her two best friends, and immediately, Harry put an arm around her shoulder. So did Ron. Yet. Her attention never left the Slytherin pacing away from them while his wrists were chained behind his back. But he halted, and Hermione's eyes widened in surprise as he turned to see them again behind his back.
"Take care of her for me, Potter, Weasley..." He said as he stared at them.
"We will, don't fret." Harry replied.
Draco nodded at Harry and Ron, which he received their acknowledgements as well. Hermione formed a weak smile on her face as she watched Draco smiled back at her before turning his back on them, and slowly, disappearing from their sights behind huge, tall doors.

Hermione rolled her eyes, and thought, 'how long will this class go on', 'what are all these nonsense', and 'oh, how I wished to be at Arithmancy class instead of here'.
With all the commotion, she didn't know that Draco had been constantly stealing glances at her while she was busy trying to find meaning to her partner's cup, Harry. She sighed in defeat for the first time in her academic life.
"Look, Hermione," said Harry, distracting her from her thoughts, "you also have the heart, just like Malfoy."
"Oh please, anything but that ..." She scoffed a laugh at Harry.
The rest of the students have looked and read the meaning of their classmates' tea leaves, guided by Professor Trelawney. But most of the time, the Professor would utter, telling the students that they would die today, or would become tragical sometime in the future, so it was a huge relief when they were leaving the classroom at last.

"Well, I'd say you're just sneaking around here to see me, aren't you?" He said in a teasing tone while brushing a hand on his soft, blonde hair.
After he heard that she's helping to look for the Weasel's pet rat, he felt something weird in his chest, though he didn't understand what it was.
Hermione rolled her eyes but smiled sarcastically at the white-haired, her arms crossed on her chest. "What? Why would I want to see you? You can't even defeat Harry in the last Quidditch game."
Hermione just knew what to say to make him boil to madness. His brows were knitted together, his fists tightly gripped as he gritted his teeth.
Feeling embarrassed and furious at the same time, he suddenly spat to her, "You'll see, I'll defeat that scarhead the next game, and once I defeated that Potterboy the next game, i'll---"
He stopped mid-sentence. An idea just popped into his head, but he knows it's super lame and impossible. Something just came in the back of his mind and it's telling him to ask her into a date once he won against Potter, but…
'Did he just blushed? Or do I have eye problems?' Hermione thought as she folded both her arms on her chest, her weight on one foot.
"What? What are your going to do, Malfoy?"

fictional kiss things that end me
being unable to open their eyes for a few moments afterward
one small kiss, pulling away for an instant, then devouring each other
pressing their foreheads together while kissing
speaking normally, then after the kiss their voice is hoarse
guys furrowing their brow when kissing passionately
staring at the other’s lips, trying not to kiss them, before giving in
running their thumb over the other’s lips
when they lean forward a fraction as if to kiss the other person, then realize they shouldn’t and pull back to stop themselves
ripping the other away - “no we shouldn’t” - but when they kiss them again they moan and hold them close
one sliding their hand into the other’s hair slowly
their entire body freezing for a second when their love kisses them
accidentally being forced inches apart from each other, staring at each other’s lips, and just before they kiss someone pulls them back apart
when one stops the kiss to whisper “I’m sorry, are you sure you-” and they answer by kissing them more
a hoarse whisper “kiss me”
then licks their lips and says “please”
