Clint: We have decided that if anything happens to me or Laura, we’d want Nat to be Cooper, Lila and Nate's guardian.
Natasha: That is great news! Kids, when something horrible happens you’re going to be all mine.
Laura: It really is more of an ‘if’ situation.
Natasha: All mine!

realistically, spider-man has probably befriended loads of vigilantes ( maybe even kind of sort of criminals ) while patrolling and he’s probably got thousands of connections without realizing it.
at this point in time he’s been to loads of avengers meetings and debriefs and while it’ll never NOT be cool, he isn’t.. it just isn’t something he looks forward too or stressed about anymore.
so he’s been caught late a few times, stumbling in mumbling apologies and excuses ( tony teases him for it— oh are we not cool enough for you? )
he’s late for a briefing this time, some sort of underground network of bases ( it’s a secret lair, why can’t they just call it a secret lair? ) and peter isn’t really surprised, he’s worked on these sorts of missions before—
“oh, mr captain rogers — deadpool is already working on this one, he invited me yesterday but i was napping and missed the call, don’t tell him that though he’ll get sad.”
and suddenly he’s being questioned by everyone but clint who wasn’t all that surprised ( neither was natasha, but what bussiness did peter have talking to people like deadpool? )
“when the hell did you start talking to deadpool—”
“ he has your NUMBER?—”
“ we’re friends mr stark— what do you mean— i know other— of course i’m friends with other vigila— is anyone listening?? ”
“did you hack karen? why wasn’t i— this should be in the baby monitor—”
“why did he contact you of all people— is he doing this alone? do you know how dangerous—”

When Peter goes to college
Clint: Hey, can we stay in your dorm tonight? Peter: Why? Clint: Tony fiddled with an ouija board and cursed ours. Steve: We don't know how to banish spirits, so Tony is just throwing salt at them and yelling "DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A HOTEL TO YOU?!"

I'm In Love (With My Best Friend)
Summary: Peter Parker x Fe!Reader -> You and Peter have been best friends since middle school. But when feelings get involved, it can lead to a lot of pining and incredibly romantic kisses inside a Stark lab.
Disclaimer: FLUFF, a little angst, a LOT of pining. Kissing. Jealousy. Happy Ending. Not proof-read. No use of Y/N.
Tumblr media
You first met him when you were in middle school. You had been the new transfer student and you had zero friends. The first week of your new school you spent getting lost in the hallways, avoiding the random questions that the people who you assumed were the popular crowd were asking you and trying to concentrate on the work you were being given.
But, half-way through your second week, you met a boy.
You had been sitting on your own in the back of the cafeteria, trying to solve your science homework.
Usually, you were okay with science but every time you entered your numbers, you knew the answer was wrong.
He’d introduced himself as Peter Parker.
You recognised the name.
He was supposed to be in your English, Math and Physical Ed classes though he hadn’t been in due to being ill.
At first, he sat with you because there was nowhere else to sit. At least, that’s what you thought. Then he asked about your homework.
“Yeah, Mrs Jackson always sets difficult questions. Do you want some help?”
You accepted his offer and he moved over two seats so he was directly in front of you and for the next 20 minutes, he sat with you and you both figured out the homework together.
In return, you offered to help him with his English report.
You couldn’t quite remember when it was after that that the pair of you became inseparable. But, after that, the both of you were never seen without one another.
Even in High School, you remained the best of friends. Thursday night homework hours were completed together and Friday night movie nights were completed with the same laughter, frustration and smiles.
And, despite attending different colleges, it was like no time or space had passed between you both.
You were the first Peter came to when he was ready to tell people about his alter-ego Spider-Man. You were also the first person Peter came to when he had his first crush and date in High School.
Maybe that was when you had your first heart-break.
Though you were friends with Peter first, it was a couple years into High School that you realised your feelings towards Peter had grown to be more than friendship.
But you knew he didn’t feel the same. And knew he probably never would.
But, at the same time, it didn’t not sting when he dated other girls.
Either way, you swallowed the pain and your feelings for him and remained determined to keep your friendship with Peter despite them.
So, you dated other guys.
And, they were kind.
Some of them became long term - others, not so much. But despite how much you cared for them, something always seemed to be missing. Though you tried your best to ignore that fact.
You both had graduated college a few years ago and ever since, Peter had been working for Stark Industries whilst, despite the job offer Tony had given you personally and said he would keep on ice, you had a job helping engineer different plates and surgical equipment that helped towards surgery for animals who’s back legs had stopped moving or had been born without one of the paws etc.
Still, you met Peter every day in his lab at the compound at 7 since you got off work at 6.
“Peter? You here?”
“In here. I’m almost ready, I’ve just got to-”
“No worries.”
Whilst Peter ran about the place, finding different parts for some old web-shooters he had in his hand, you sat at one of the tables and tinkered away.
It was usually like this.
You’d go and meet him, he’d still be working and you’d sit with him for 40 minutes to an hour before you both left to get food and watch a movie.
“You know, it’s so cool you work for Tony Stark.”
Peter smiled as he continued to tinker away and you tried to avoid your gaze dropping to check him out despite his outfit consisting of black cargo trousers and a black t-shirt.
So, he’d been in training today.
“Yeah. You know, you could too if you wanted.” Peter looked up to you for a moment. “He has a job lined up and ready for you whenever you want it.”
You smiled and nodded. “I know. But I like my job.”
“Offer is always there.”
“Hey, did you hear back from Lucy?”
Peter faltered for a moment, though you barely noticed. “Oh, uh, yeah. We’re…we’re going out again, tomorrow, I think.”
You ignored the sad feeling in your chest, despite the fact you had been the one to set them up (technically).
Lucy worked in the office at your job. Peter came in one day to pick you up and she mistook you both for a couple despite the fact she’d just been flirting with him thirty seconds ago.
You just opened your mouth and shut the whole thing down. “Oh, no. Hahaha, no. We’re- we’re just friends. Good friends. But friends.”
Sitting up a little straighter, you smiled. “That’s good.”
“What about you? What happened to Frank?”
“Mark,” you corrected. “And it-it wasn’t right. Besides, we only talked, like, twice. It wouldn’t have worked out anyway. He said he hated Disney movies and would rather gouge out his eyes than watch another one.”
“Seriously?”
You raised your eyebrows with a puff from your chest, still annoyed at the comment. “Yeah.”
“Well, at least you never have to talk to him again.”
“True.”
At that moment, the door to Peter’s lab slid open and Sam walked in with a pile of plans, presumably for a new set of wings.
“Steve told me to give you these.”
“Thanks, Sam. Just leave them there. I’ll look over them.”
“Hey, Sam.”
Sam called your name and ran over and hugged you. “How are you doing, kid?”
“Good. Just waiting for this one to finish up. How was Alaska?”
“Cold. Bucky got his arm frozen to a lamp-post. I’ll send you pictures.”
You smiled. “You want them framed?”
“Oh, please.” Sam smiled.
“Did I ever show you the pictures when Peter froze his webs to the roof? He was still attached to them two hours later.”
Peter, looking between the pair of you, laughing at the photos, shook his head. “Sometimes I regret introducing you two.”
“Too late.” Sam smiled. “Anyway, you both should head out before traffic gets too bad.”
“It’s New York. Traffic is always bad.”
“Even better.”
“And our movie starts in an hour.” you added.
“Alright, I’m done.”
Sam winked at you and you mouthed a “Thank you” to him before he said goodbye and left.
Yourself and Peter managed to get to the cinema and find your seats just before the trailers finished and for the next two hours, you spent most of the time trying not to have a heart-attack as the actors jumped from building to building, hanged themselves over the edge of a cliff and nearly died about thirty times before finally succeeding.
Despite the amount of times you watched movies like that, it didn’t stop your heart from racing and trying not to watch. Horror, sure. You could handle that. But suspense and action - nope.
“How you feeling?”
You put your hand to your head and covered your eyes for a moment. “I’m still spinning, I think. Please, never do anything like that.”
Peter laughed as you sat down on the bench outside the movie house. “You have my word.”
Slowly, he knelt down in front of you before pushing your chin up.
“Look at me for a moment.”
You did so and tried to slow your heart down that was beating faster for a separate reason.
“Stopped spinning?”
It took you a moment to focus. “Y-Yeah. All stopped now.”
“Good.”
Peter stood up again and you mentally slapped yourself as you checked him out again. He’s just a friend. A FRIEND.
Thankfully, he didn’t notice since he was too busy looking down the street before he gave you his hand.
“Come on. Let’s head back.”
You took his hand as he helped you up before letting it go, too afraid of what your own feelings might feel if you held his hand any longer.
Months later, not much had changed.
You’d still kept your feelings from Peter and dated a couple of people. Peter dated Lucy for a month before breaking it off - though he never told you why.
But one evening, as you were sitting home alone - your roommate out on another date - you got the craving for Pizza and since there was none in the freezer, you grabbed your bag and coat before heading out to the nearest pizza place.
You needed to get out of the house.
Despite there being no change between you and Peter, part of you called out for it. You either needed to tell him how you felt or you needed to move on. And since you weren't going to do the first…ever, that only left you with the second.
And, oddly enough, that night you met Colton.
He was standing in line waiting for his pizza and since the chef got an emergency call from his wife saying she was in labour, he mistakenly made half a pepperoni, half margarita.
Despite the awkwardness, you both decided to share it.
You sat outside together on a park bench, watching the ducks float down the water, simply talking.
“So, what brings you to a pizza place at 9 at night on a Tuesday?”
“Hunger, mostly.”
Before you knew it, he was walking you home, you had exchanged numbers and met him for a date that Saturday. From there, you continued talking and soon enough, months had passed by.
It was late in the afternoon when you were at SI and, whilst talking to some old friends in the hallway since you’d just come from a shared meeting between both companies, Colton turned up.
“Hey, what-” you kissed him quickly. “What are you doing here?”
“You left your notebook at my house,” he passed you the hardback notebook that contained most of your random thoughts and problems that were either to do with work or could be to do with work, one day.
“Oh, thank you.”
“And, since I’m here, I was hoping maybe we could get lunch together?”
You smiled and nodded. “I’d like that.”
Then someone called your name.
Looking behind you, the four people you’d been talking to seemed to split up and gave you a clear view of who had called your name - though you didn’t need to view to know who it was.
“Peter,” you said, slightly shocked.
This was the first time, despite him knowing about Colton, Peter was about to meet him.
“Hey, I was just- who’s this?”
“Oh, I, uh, this-this is Colton.”
Colton stuck out his hand and Peter shook it after a quick moment. “Nice to meet you.”
“Likewise.”
Whether it was real or not, it was like a massive tension cloud was above the whole situation.
“Uhh…Colton, this is Peter. My-”
“Best friend since middle school.” Peter finished.
“Cool. Well, we were just about to get lunch so I guess we’ll see you later?”
“Oh, uh, yeah. Can you- Let me just grab my coat.”
“Course, babe.”
Then Colton kissed you for what felt like the longest time - and oddly, it didn’t feel like the others. It felt…forced.
Either way, when he pulled away you stepped back a little before heading down the hall and towards the cloak room. And in the time it took you between getting your coat and walking back, that cloud of tension only seemed to feel darker and bigger.
“Ready to go?”
“Yeah, let’s go babe.”
You nodded, saying goodbye to everyone else but something in the bottom of your stomach felt guilty - especially when you saw the split-second change in emotions on Peter’s face before he went back to how he usually looked at you.
Once you left the building with Colton and had driven away, Natasha smacked the back of Peter’s head.
“Ow, what was that for?”
“I don’t know. For whatever the hell that was, for being jealous, for not telling her sooner.”
“Jealous? I’m not jealous. Why would I be jealous?”
Natasha just laughed. “Oh, you look just like Steve when Grant from level three flirted with me. Oh, you’ve got it bad.”
“Nat-” Peter rolled his eyes and tried to walk away but she just pulled him back.
“You can admit you like her. I mean, we’ve all seen this coming for years.”
“I don’t- you have?”
Natasha shrugged. “What? She’s pretty and you’re both close friends. I’m just surprised it took you this long. I thought you were smarter than those idiots.”
“Those idiots are still standing here.”
“Peter, how long have you liked her?” Laura asked him.
“I,” Peter shook his head.
“Oh, boy.” Laura laughed.
Peter stood there, slightly dumbfounded, as the others walked away.
Despite how much he denied it, and how much he convinced himself he didn’t feel that way towards you, he did. Ever since Junior year of College. At least, that was when he’d been getting that simmering feeling in the pit of his stomach every time you looked at him, or even when you didn’t. And that simmer seemed to boil every time he saw you with somebody else.
But he decided never to tell you.
He figured, since you had never said anything about extra feelings; ones that surpassed a simple friendship bond, then you wouldn’t ever feel the same.
And when you made the comment of Just Friends to Lucy, he knew you definitely would never feel the same. So, he guessed he had to get used to the feeling of…something towards you.
Yet seeing you with Colton - his arm around you, his lips on yours - something seemed to start cracking inside of him.
Either that, or completely being blown to smithereens.
Nat was completely right.
He was jealous.
He has been jealous. Ever since he first saw you get ready for that date you had with Hank, or Hodge or whatever the guy’s name was - he felt that simmer in his stomach and that small voice in the back of his head for a split second let him think he was watching you get ready to go out on a date with him.
It had confused him, at first.
You were his best friend and he was suddenly having these thoughts about dating you and…opening the car door for you (despite already doing that, anyway). But it would have been different.
He would be yours, in more ways than just friendship.
“You really love her, don’t you?”
“Of course I do, she’s my best friend.”
Peter looked towards the door where Clint was leaning against the door frame like a dad getting ready to talk to his son.
Although, despite the comfort Clint provided, Peter faltered for a moment. He had been alone since Colton came and swept you away to lunch - over three hours ago. He’d been tinkering away and letting his mind wander.
“Relax, kid. It’s written all over your face.”
“Clint, I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Tough.” Clint pulled out a seat across the lab desk where Peter was standing. “Laura has already told me what happened and most likely, Tasha’ will do the same later tonight. You might as well talk, Kid.”
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to say.”
“Admitting you love her, to yourself, is a start.”
“But do I?”
Even as he questioned it outloud, he knew it wasn’t a question. It hadn’t been a question for the longest time.
“Pete, according to Laura, you looked like you were about ready to punch his lights out when he kissed her.”
“Well he was just standing there, trying to force himself down her throat. Even I know she doesn’t like PDA like that. And, he was talking about taking her to some kind of salad bar across town when she usually goes and gets her grilled sub from the cafeteria - or I do. And then take it to her. It’s the only thing she ever likes to eat during the day.”
Clint watched as a light, reminiscent smile came across Peter’s face.
“It’s been the same thing ever since high school. Even if it goes a little cold, it’s still crispy and just as tasty. Plus, the smell doesn’t remind her of the girls' bathroom stalls. There was a leak in the summer before we started. Busted the sewer line that ran under the girls bathroom. The whole corridor would smell but she said it was worse in the bathroom.”
Clint nodded and just let Peter ramble. Though he did get a little worried that the screwdriver he was holding would fly out of his hand at some point.
Peter’s face grimaced. “I bet he listens to, like, just indie bands and says it’s the best thing in the world and that any other style of music is too…modern because it contains too many lyrics that make sense. She hates that, you know. She had a roommate in college that only ever listened to this…clapping music. Literally, just people clapping along to songs. After that, she moved into one of the sorority dorms. He was probably some douche frat guy, too. Couldn’t get a sorority “chick” then so thinks he can get one now. Not that she’s a “chick” by any means.”
“What is she, then?”
Peter took a short moment to think. “Amazing. Wonderful. Beautiful. Way out of his league. Way out of mine, too. But…”
“But you’re in love with her anyway?” Clint asked.
“Of course I am but-”
Peter, once again, faltered.
Had he really just admitted that out loud?
It felt good.
“I am. I am in love with her.”
“Then you should tell her. Pete, coming from me, I’d say don’t wait too long. And from Steve, he waited over seventy years - granted, he found Nat. But still. Don’t let her find someone else, especially when you’re already here.”
“But what if she doesn’t-”
Clint already started laughing. He almost doubled over.
“What? Why are you laughing?”
“Oh, Pete. You really are an oblivious idiot. Kid, that woman has been head over heels for you ever since we first met her. And probably for a long time before that. Trust me, if you tell her, you’ll hear the same thing back.”
Peter stood baffled for a moment before looking at his watch. You should be home by now. You never really liked going out after 6 unless it was for a period run or food.
“I’ve got to go.”
“We’ll be waiting.”
The only thing was…as Peter got to your street, he was stopped in his tracks half-way there.
You stood on the front steps with Colton. You were laughing and leaning into him and he whispered things to you and then you kissed him.
You kissed him.
If he went over there…he could ruin the happiness you had with him. He might not like Colton, but you did. And that was what mattered to him. And, even if Clint was right and you did love him back, what was to say you’d say yes to being with him? And, even if you did, what if you couldn’t be friends? Then you’d lose one another. Forever.
He couldn’t risk that.
So, for the next two months, he watched you flirt and fall for Colton all the while his heart started breaking.
And then, for about three weeks, he didn’t see you.
And it was the longest three weeks of his life.
You had gone on a business trip - and Colton joined you. And, from overhearing Laura and Clint talk, you were going to visit Colton’s family since they lived in the area.
Part of him wondered if you’d come back engaged.
You’d only been with Colton under a year but he saw how you looked at him, and how he looked at you - despite not liking either fact.
But, one late evening as he was working on a couple new designs, he’d gone to the Cafeteria to get some food - he could hear you in his head, cursing him for not having a proper meal in the day.
When he came back, it was the first time he’d actually had a jump scare.
You were in his lab.
You hadn’t even called.
Friday hadn’t even told him you were in the building.
You were still you. Not that he expected much to change.
Your hair half down though the top was thrown into a haphazard messy bun. Your contacts must have dried out in the day since you were wearing your glasses.
You used to wear them all the time in middle school and high school but they got annoying after a while since they’d slip down your face and get dirty - despite having wiped them thirty seconds ago. Since you wanted to be an engineer and your hands were always full, you changed to contacts.
It was much easier to focus on the task at hand than the task and the potential of your glasses slipping from your face and landing either in a tank of oil or being crushed under heavy machinery.
You were wearing a pair of simple jeans that already had oil stains.
So, you’d been at work today.
And you were wearing his t-shirt.
His t-shirt.
Not Colton’s (unless he owned the same one, though he highly doubted it.).
His.
“You’re back!”
“I’m back!” you smiled.
Silence.
Peter was still stunned at the t-shirt.
He’d seen you in his t-shirt, maybe once in college, when the washing machine had broken and you had to hand-wash your clothes in his sink since your sink was broken.
“It’s nice to see you,” you tried to imitate his voice. “It’s nice to see you, too Peter. Yes, I did have a good time on my trip. I’m so glad you’ve come to see me.”
“Sorry,” Peter laughed a little. “It is good to see you.”
Peter came over and hugged you tightly before stepping back awkwardly and, if you didn’t know any better, you would have guessed he wanted distance between you both.
“How was your trip?”
“Good. I, uh, I secured the deal with the manufacturer. Everything goes to mass production next month.”
“It does? That’s amazing.”
“I know.”
Short silence and then, Peter asked a question he needed to despite not wanting to.
“Why are you not with Colton? Shouldn’t you be out celebrating?”
“Maybe.” you agreed. “But, uh, we- actually, I. I, uh, well…I broke up with him.”
Peter tried to calm himself.
“You did?”
“I did.”
“Why?”
“He was a great guy and all and I cared for him and his family were amazing but, uh, he…he just wasn’t…”
You - that was what you wanted to say. He wasn’t Peter.
“He just wasn’t the right fit. He…he wanted too much too soon and, I don’t know, I guess…I wasn’t ready.”
A pang of guilt played in your stomach.
You were ready. You were ready for all what Colton offered you; love, a family, a promise of the future. But you weren't ready to have it with him.
Despite all the shutting down of emotions, you still wanted it to be Peter.
“Oh, well…that’s good, I guess.”
“Yeah. So, I guess…that was it.”
“Oh, okay.”
Neither of you really knew what to do. Peter’s mind was screaming at him to tell you the truth. And your’s was banging on the wide open door in your heart trying to get your attention.
But neither of you moved.
Until Peter did.
“I-I, uh, I left something in the other- lab. I should probably finish-”
“Oh, yeah. Yeah, of course. I should probably head back home anyway.”
Peter began to exit the room but half-way out of the door, he stopped though you were too busy trying to keep your focus on the side desk in front of you to spot it.
“I’m done wasting time.”
Peter didn’t fully know what made him do what he did next, but no matter the outcome, he would never regret it in his life. Or, maybe he would, but in the long term, he might not.
Turning back, he hurried towards you and for a moment, you looked back up and he caught your gaze.
If you were going to kill him afterwards, he wanted his death to be worthwhile.
He kissed you.
Cupping your cheeks in his hand, he kissed you - deeply and passionately. Though he didn’t force it.
It was just as he dreamed and better.
Your head was spinning.
All the feelings you had ever felt for Peter all rose to the surface and once your brain registered the kiss was real, you kissed him back just as much.
Your hands that had been gripping the side of the desk to support yourself came to his wrists and then to his chest where you gripped him by the collar, pulling him closer.
His own hands raked through your hair, holding the back of your head to be closer to you and eventually, when you both had to break apart due to the lack of air, his head remained against yours.
Both of you were out of breath and holding one another as close as possible.
“Sorry, I just-”
“Don’t apologise.”
You pushed yourself to stand a little straighter, keeping him close to you before you opened your eyes to look at him.
“Don’t apologise. I was just a little…” you couldn’t find the words.
“Shocked?”
You laughed a little. “Yeah, let’s go with that.”
“I don’t want to scare you,” Peter told you. “But I need to tell you something and if you never want to speak to me again then so be it but if I don’t tell you soon I think I might combust.”
“I’m in love with you.”
You beat him to it.
“Sorry. I just…I am. That probably terrifies you. I’m sorry.”
“No, no. Don’t-” Peter let out a small laugh. “Don’t be sorry. Because I was going to say the same thing.”
“You were?”
Peter nodded and hummed. “I was. But you beat me to it.”
“I did, didn’t I?”
“I’m in love with you, too.” Peter told you. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I know I should have but I just thought-”
“I wouldn’t like you back?”
Peter nodded.
“What a pair we make, eh?” you laughed.
“I know you said you didn’t want to move too fast but-”
“Peter, I only said that because…because I wasn’t ready for him.”
“What?”
“I broke it off because he wasn’t you. Colton was great and all but, that thing that didn’t fit? It was because he wasn’t you.”
“Then will you go on a date with me?”
You smiled. “I’d love to.”
“Great. I can’t wait.”
“Neither can I.”
Without a moment to spare, Peter kissed you again and you kissed him back and it was as if your first kiss hadn’t ever stopped. You turned a little as Peter held you closer and you felt yourself leaning against the desk. Before you knew it, you were sitting on the desktop, pulling Peter as close to you as physics would allow it.
The next day, you both went on your first date as a couple. A week later, you were official and Nat made it everyone’s business that yourself and Peter had finally become a couple.
The morning after your first night together had been special. Despite Peter having to get up earlier than either of you wanted him to, for work, you stood in the kitchen ready to wash the dishes from the night before he left through the front door.
Less than ten seconds later, he came back in through the door.
“Did you forget somethin-”
He cut you off with a kiss.
“That,” he smiled. “I forgot that.”
“I’m glad you did.”
“See you at lunch?” Peter asked, still holding you.
“See you at lunch.” you confirmed before he kissed you again, and again, and again.
“Okay, I’ll see you later. Love you.”
“Love you, too. Be careful.”
Six months later, you both moved in together before finalising the house you both wished to buy.
Two years later, you and Peter had made a home for yourselves, together and were planning a winter wedding.

Clint: Hey Tony, you got any idea how to wrap one of these things?
Tony: Is that a crossbow?
Clint: Yeah. Am I the greatest uncle in the world or what?
Tony: We can’t give Peter a crossbow. He pokes himself in the eye everytime he uses a straw.

Clint, teaching Kate how to drive: This navigation system is all messed up.
Clint: It thinks we're in a park.
Clint, looking up: Oh, my god! It is a park! Away from the kids! Aim for the lake!
Kate, screaming and trying to drive: Oh my god! I don't want to die!

Worth the Wait
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader
Words: 2,204
Summary:  Bucky has been avoiding you since the two of you nearly kissed a few weeks ago. When you both attend a Stark-hosted BBQ, he has no choice but to explain himself and make amends.
Warnings: None, I don’t think? Maybe some reader insecurities and self-doubt, but otherwise we’re all good.
A/N: This one got away from me a little bit but I just love the idea of the Avengers family having a get together and enjoying themselves. In my head this is set post Endgame (with major canon changes, obviously!), but I guess it could take place whenever you want depending on which Bucky is your favourite (though, let’s be honest, that’s all of them!).

Tumblr media
"Damn girl, look at you!" Sam marvelled as you opened the door to greet him. "What a masterpiece!"
You'd opted for a more casual look for the BBQ the Starks were hosting, nothing special, but Sam was never short of a compliment and they were always appreciated.
You smiled sheepishly and bowed your head in modest thanks, locking the door and following him down the path to his truck.
"You should take a look at yourself," you countered with a playful wink, getting into the passenger seat and buckling up.
– – – – – –
You arrived at the Stark cabin a short while later, stopping on the way to pick up Peter. As much as you loved the kid, you were grateful that the journey, and his relentless chatter, had come to an end.
You spotted Clint and Scott’s cars as you stepped out of Sam’s truck and were pleased that some of your friends were already here. However, as your eyes fell upon Steve’s Audi and the bike sitting beside it your excitement was quickly replaced with anxiety; in your hurry to get ready on time you’d forgotten that Bucky would also be coming.
Sam noticed the falter in your steps and followed your gaze, smiling knowingly once he'd done the maths.
“Relax, cher, you’re among friends, what’s the worst that can happen?” he mused, playfully nudging your arm as the two of you followed Peter and the sound of chitchat around the side of the house.
Your eyes instinctively sought out the super soldier as you rounded the corner, your heart dropping into your stomach as you spotted him on the deck, beer in hand as he chatted to Steve and Clint.
“Ooh, new arrivals!” Tony’s voice tore you from your momentary stupor as your host stepped outside, drawing everyone's attention. You ignored the warmth in your cheeks as you felt Bucky’s everyone’s eyes on you and instead threw yourself at a surprised Tony.
“I'm glad to see you too, Y/N,” he chuckled, giving you a squeeze. “I'm guessing by how violently you're gripping me there have been no developments on the situation?" He murmured subtly, and you shook your head.
"There isn't even a situation to speak of," you replied in a hushed tone, hoping the super soldier's advanced hearing couldn't pick up your conversation. "We almost kissed, he's been ghosting me since. That's all there is to it."
Tony gave you a sympathetic smile as he pulled away and put his hands on your shoulders, holding you at arm's length.
"Give him time honey," he reassured, and you shrugged in response.
Just then, Morgan came bounding outside, stopping momentarily to look around before her eyes fell on you, squealing excitedly as she hurried down the steps and bolted over, wrapping her small arms around your waist.
"Hey Morgie!" You cooed, scooping her up and resting her on your hip. "How's my favourite Stark?"
"I resent that!" Tony griped, and you swatted him away with a laugh before turning your attention to his daughter.
You listened intently, hanging onto every word as she excitedly filled you in on everything you’d missed since your last visit - what she’d been up to at school, gossip she’d picked up from the playground, her science project she was working on with her Dad (which earned Tony a raised eyebrow since you knew how his 'projects' often ended up). You loved watching her talk - the spark in her eyes as she gestured animatedly reminded you so much of her Dad. You’d never admit it to him for fear of stroking his already bulging ego, but it was actually pretty cute how alike they were.
Once she was done with her stories Morgan went running off after Nate, who’d made his way over to you both during your conversation and ‘tagged’ her in the game he was playing with the other Barton children. You laughed as you watched the older kids skitter across the grass trying to get away from the tiny 5 year old, and turned your attention to the adults occupying the deck.
"You got this sweetheart," Tony comforted from beside you, sensing your unease. "You've dealt with murderous space aliens, I'm sure you can handle a brooding super soldier."
You laughed humorlessly. "I'm not so sure about that - at least the aliens let me know where I stand."
Tony chuckled with a shake of his head, placing a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
"Get on over there and show him what he's missing," he ordered, giving you a gentle nudge. "He'll soon regret leaving you on 'read'."
"Look at you using the kids' lingo," you remarked with a grin. "Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks!"
"Less of the old or I'll find a way to embarrass you," Tony warned as he waggled his finger at you, but you only laughed in response.
"Quit stalling and get over there, I gotta go help Pepper in the kitchen but make yourself at home!"
And with that he was gone, leaving you standing alone. The palms of your hands turned clammy, your stomach churned, and your heart began racing a thousand miles a minute as you approached the deck.
It was ridiculous really, you were acting like a teenager with a crush. This was Bucky, for crying out loud. The same Bucky who'd accompanied you on countless missions, who'd fought alongside you during the battle with Thanos, who'd seen you at your absolute worst. The same Bucky you'd swapped stories with, shared your hopes and dreams with, and confessed your deepest worries and darkest fears to in the middle of the night when neither of you could sleep.
The same Bucky who, since the two of you had almost kissed a month ago, had been avoiding you like the plague.
You’d been hanging out in the lounge, laughing and poking fun at his dreadful video game skills, then suddenly you were staring at each other's lips, slowly drawing closer. You were sure you were going to kiss, you'd wanted to kiss him, but then he'd pulled away as though he'd been struck by lightning, excused himself and had been avoiding you at every available opportunity since.
You hadn't stopped replaying the scene in your head over the last few weeks, analysing every detail and wondering if perhaps you'd misread the situation and imagined the chemistry. It was easy to dismiss before, but now you were in Bucky's presence again, that feeling of rejection returned.
"There she is!" Clint cheered as you reached them, shifting along the bench and making room for you to sit beside him. "I was beginning to think you were avoiding me," he pouted and you couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculous look on his face.
"As if you'd let me," you snickered, grateful for the distraction as you grabbed a beer from the cooler nearby. You opened it and took a giant swig, relishing the cold liquid soothing your increasingly dry throat. You greeted Steve and, once you'd had a moment to gather your courage, you finally chanced a look in Bucky's direction.
You regretted it instantly.
His icy blue eyes were already fixed on you, watching you intently as he nursed his own drink. Your heartbeat quickened and you hoped - rather fruitlessly - that he couldn’t hear it.
"Hi James," you mumbled, averting your gaze. Somehow using his nickname didn’t seem appropriate since it was reserved for use by his friends, and right now you weren’t sure what the two of you were. He furrowed his brow at the sound of his formal name coming from your mouth, but quickly schooled his features before anybody noticed.
The party was soon in full swing, as more guests arrived and Tony fired up the BBQ. The food was delicious, the drinks were flowing, and you were enjoying spending time with your friends outside of missions and a strict regime. You were like one big family, and you smiled in contentment as you glanced around at everyone laughing and enjoying themselves.
Everyone except Bucky, of course, who hadn't cracked a smile once since you'd been here (not that you were keeping track or anything).
°°°
"What's going on in that cyborg brain of yours?" Sam asked as he joined Bucky on the deck and handed him another beer.
Bucky didn't answer, but it wasn't hard for Sam to guess his thoughts when he followed his friend's line of sight and saw you.
"She really cares about you, you know," he remarked.
"She really shouldn't," Bucky scoffed, taking a swig of his beer.
"And why's that?"
Bucky threw him an incredulous look.
"Look at me, Sam. I'm a mess! Who in their right mind would want someone like me?"
"Y/N, apparently,"
"I'm serious. What if I fuck this up and she ends up hating me? What if she finally sees me for the monster I really am!?"
"You really believe she's gonna think that? She knows you, man, and she knows your past. Unless you do something really bad like cheat, she won't be going anywhere,"
Bucky tensed his jaw as he considered Sam's words and fought the internal battle he'd been waging since he and Y/N had nearly kissed.
He'd wanted to kiss her so badly, but something inside of him snapped and he couldn't bring himself to do it. There was so much at risk, their friendship, her feelings - hurting people was a speciality of his and he knew that if he let her in it would only be a matter of time before he hurt her, too.
"How long are you gonna keep punishing yourself for your past, dude?" Sam asked, and he put a reassuring hand on Bucky's shoulder. "If anyone deserves happiness, it's you. Don't let it pass you by just because you believe that's what you deserve."
He gave Bucky's shoulder a squeeze before getting up and rejoining the others.
Bucky sat in quiet contemplation, thinking carefully about what Sam had said. He was loath to admit it, but the guy had a point, and in the end it helped Bucky make his decision. Downing the last of his beer for courage, he got to his feet and marched towards you before he had the chance to chicken out.
°°°
You'd been talking to Wanda when her attention shifted onto something, or rather someone, behind you, and she smiled knowingly before walking away. You hadn't expected to see Bucky when you turned around.
"I know I've been an idiot," he blurted, before you could even speak. "And I'm sorry for ignoring you all this time - it's no excuse, but I got in my own head and assumed it was better for you if I stayed away."
"Isn't it my choice to determine what's best for me?" You quipped as you folded your arms across your chest.
"Of course it is, and I'm sorry I made that decision for you…it's just…I like you, a lot, but it's been so long since I've felt this way and I got scared that I'd mess everything up."
Of all the outcomes you'd conjured up as to why he'd stayed away, you'd never once considered that it might have been because he was scared. Your heart broke for Bucky as you realised just how difficult opening up to someone must be after everything he'd been through - there was no way you could stay mad at him after that confession. Besides, even if you'd wanted to, his puppy dog eyes made it impossible.
"You went about this the completely wrong way," you reprimanded, raising a disapproving eyebrow. You'd already forgiven him, but you were going to make him sweat a little before you told him that.
"I know, doll, and I can't apologise enough."
"But I hope you've learned from this," you continued, uncrossing your arms to close the space between you and hold his hands. Hope ignited in his eyes as your expression softened and you couldn't resist a coy smile.
"Oh, I definitely have," he breathed, not daring to look away or let go of your hands in fear he'd lose you forever.
"Because it just so happens that I like you a lot, too," you finished, biting your lip as your nerves got the better of you.
At the sound of your confession, Bucky Barnes - former Winter Soldier and well-renowned hard ass - blushed.
"You'll finish me off saying things like that, doll," he mused.
There was no longer any doubt that he could hear your heartbeat - it was pounding so fast at this point that you were sure it was going to burst out of your chest.
"Do you think maybe we could try this again?" He tentatively asked, removing his hands from yours so that he could cup your face.
"As long as you don't run away this time," you teased, grabbing the lapels of his leather jacket and pulling him ever closer.
"I wouldn't dream of it, sugar," he murmured, closing the remaining distance between you and pressing his lips to yours.
It was a month late, but it was well worth the wait.

Resting on Your Shoulder
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Summary: Your sisters decide that a trip to Iowa is exactly what you need to help you work through the effects of Daniel’s interrogation but they didn’t know you were battling with an angel and a devil on your shoulder.
Warning: mention of past torture, past guilt, the Bartons are my favorite people to write, love confession, self-hatred.
Word count: 3.5
You caught the sandbag as it swung back towards you, resting your head on it. Every one of your muscles was screaming for you to take a break; to rest and recover. But you needed your mind to turn off. You needed your mind to stop reliving your interrogation with Daniel. It was a constant battle with the angel and devil on your shoulder as you knew getting him to talk was necessary to save Natasha but did you need to do it? You could have let Steve or Sam handle it and stayed far away from that mindset. However, there was a part of you that craved that power, that control. Oh, how you missed it and that scared you more. “There you are,” you looked over your shoulder to see Natasha walking towards you. You frowned.
“Cho will have a fit if she sees you in here,” your sister rolled her eyes. She was banned from active missions until she was fully healed but you knew she was hitching to get back out there.
“I’m not here to work out,” she said. “I’m here for you.” You raised an eyebrow at her as you bent down to pick up your water bottle.
“What’s up?”
“Since I’m benched I’m thinking about going to Iowa,” you cocked your head to the side. “Clint and his family live there.” That made more sense. “Do you want to come with us?”
“Is that a good idea?” You asked. It was her turn to tilt her head in confusion.
“Why wouldn’t it be?” That was a fair follow-up question. “They’ve been pretty eager to meet you,” you sat down, leaning against the wall. She sighed, sitting in front of you. “Look, it will be good for you to get out of the compound.”
“Nat, I’m fine,” you said, taking another sip of water. She gave you a pointed look but you remained silent.
“I know interrogating Daniel wasn’t easy for you and you don’t have to talk to me but you need to talk to someone about it. I’ve learned that Bartons have a healing presence,” you chuckled, shaking your head.
“Sure I could use a vacation,” you stood up, holding out your hand to help Natasha. “Besides, it will be nice to meet the man who was tasked with killing my sister.” She rolled her eyes, punching you lightly on the shoulder. “When are we leaving?”
“As soon as you shower, you stink,” you pulled Natasha into your arms, hugging her tight. Her laughter filled the quiet gum as she tried to push you away from her. Since the interrogation, Dainel’s screams were no longer in your mind, only the sound of your sister’s laughter.
*
“Why did they pick Iowa?” You asked as Natasha landed the Quinjet near the wooded area of Barton’s land. “Is it because it’s the Hawkeye state?” You knew it came from the Native American warrior named Black Hawk but it was too much of a conscience to not bring it up. Yelena giggled at your joke.
“I bet he’d love to hear that joke,” Natasha deadpanned. “But Fury set this up for him when he decided to join the team,” she explained. “Only myself, Yelena, and Maria knew about it.” You nodded, you’ve yet to meet Nick Fury. You knew of him. He was a high target for the Red Room and HYDRA.
The Quinjet landed and you met your sisters by the ramp as they collected their stuff and turned off the jet. You were hit with a wave of anxiety.
“Are you ready?” Yelena asked, standing next to you as the ramp descended.
“Yeah,” you told her. “I'm a little nervous.”
“Don’t be,” she said, pumping her shoulder against yours. “They are some of the best people.”
*
The house was beautiful, painted white with green shutters and a wrapped-around porch. It was a split image of the American dream. Before you could comment the front door of the house swung open and a little boy came running out towards you. “Brace yourself,” you heard Natasha mumble as the boy yelled, “Auntie Nat,” and threw himself into her arms. You caught your sister before she went tumbling to the ground.
“Woah little hawk,” Yelena said. “We have to be careful,” he looked at Yelena with a shy family on his face.
“Sorry Aunt Lena,” Hearing this little boy call your sister's aunts was tugging at your heartstrings.
“It’s okay,” Natasha set him down on the ground. “I'm very excited to see you,” she tapped him on the nose. “I want you to meet someone really important to Yelena and I. Nathaniel, this is our oldest sister.” He hid behind Natasha’s legs but he did give you a small wave.
“Hi, Nate. I’ve heard a lot of great things about you,” you said, kneeling so you were level with him. He still didn’t come out behind Natasha. “I got you something.” You noticed he wasn’t hiding anymore at the mention of a gift but you didn’t draw attention to it. Instead, you took a Lego set out of your duffle bag. “A little birdie told me you like building legos,” he gasped, taking the box from you. “Do you think we can build it together?” He excitedly nodded.
“I don’t have this one,” his eyes were glued to the box. “I have to show you the other ones I have.” You smiled.
“Sounds like a plan, bud.”
“Spoiling my kids already,” you looked at the porch and saw Clint with his wife and two other kids. You stood up, following Nate and your sisters to the house. Nate was already showing his new toy to his siblings.
“I have to make up for the lost time,” you said, handing Lila and Cooper a box. You got Cooper a drone and Lila a new bow and arrow set.
“Why don’t you bring us anything?” Cooper asked Yelena and Natasha. Yelena rolled her eyes, punching him on the shoulder.
“Because I don’t like you anymore,” your youngest sister deadpanned. Cooper smiled. “Meet the other Bartons. Clint, Laura, Cooper, and Lila.” Yelena introduced.
“Welcome to the Family,” Laura said, pulling you into a quick hug. You were shocked by the action, not expecting it from the mother of three but you hugged her back not to make it weird. It was odd how welcoming they were. They knew nothing about you and the darkness you put into the world. The devil on your shoulder began to talk - hurt them, kill them, you’ll enjoy it. The angel was nowhere in sight.
*
Natasha was right. It was impossible to be so deep inside your head when you were around the Bartons. Nate showed you his Lego collection and explained in great detail each. You enjoyed listening to the stories that Clint told and the banter between Yelena and Cooper. At night when everyone was asleep, you found yourself sitting on the porch with a 6 pack of beer. The stars were beautiful out here, it made you realize how small you were in the universe. You heard the front door open and Laura stood next to you. “Mind if I join you?”
“Your house,” you said as she sat down.
“My beer too,” she smiled, taking one. You chuckled.
“I made a mental note to buy you guys some more,” it was Laura’s turn to laugh. You both sat in silence, drinking beer and looking up at the stars. “You have a beautiful family,” you said, breaking the silence. “Thank you for opening it up to me.”
“It’s your home too,” she smiled.
“Not sure how smart it is to offer your home to a stranger,” you joked. “I could be a killer and endanger your entire family.” She smiled.
“Do you think you're a danger to my family?” She questioned. “Or your sisters?” ‘We have the same level of darkness inside of us,’ Daniel taunted. ‘You could conquer the world, burn it down, and rebuild it. If you just embraced it.’ You could never hurt your sisters or anyone innocent. But the devil on your shoulder wasn’t going away. It was so loud.
“I’d never hurt them,” you finally said. “Them or your family.” Laura nodded. Another beat of silence passed. “Sometimes I worry,” you told her and took a sip of your beer. “That they broke something inside me. It scares me.”
“What did he say to you?” She asked. You weren’t surprised that she knew what happened. Finally, you looked at her.
“He said that he and I were the same,” you said. “We have the same level of darkness. I could set the world on fire and rebuild it from the ashes,” you looked away. “He was right in a way, you know? Drekyov trained us to bring down empires. Maybe that’s all I’m good for.” Laura was quiet. Both her hands wrapped around her beer bottle as she stared ahead.
“Have you seen the Harry Potter movies?” She asked. You shook your head. You knew they were on Yelena’s list to show you. “There is a quote that describes you and the other Widows - ‘You’re a very good person, who had bad things happen to you. Besides, the world isn’t split between good people and Death Eaters. We’ve all got both light and dark inside us.” You frowned, letting what she said to sit with you.
“Which one do I listen to? The angel or the devil?” Laura smiled.
“You’ve already beaten one devil,” she said, standing up. She stifled a yawn and you felt a little guilty for keeping her up. “Another one can’t be that hard, right?” You smiled, nodding your head. “From what Yelena and Natasha have told us, that angel is a lot louder than you think.”
“Thank you, Laura.”
“Get some sleep and come get me if you need anything,” she squeezed your shoulder as she walked back into the house. You sighed, finishing the rest of your beer and placing it in the holder. You looked up at the stairs. It was so easy to see them. Were they always this bright or were you too busy to look up?
*
“Has anyone seen my sister?” Natasha asked, walking into the kitchen. The kids were already eating breakfast and Yelena was working on a mission report for Maria that Natasha told her to get done before they came. She wasn’t surprised that it wasn’t done. Natasha knocked on your door for breakfast but the room was empty.
“She was up early,” Clint said, pouring himself a cup of coffee. “She went on one of the trail runs.” The two sisters looked at each other. It was like at the compound. They’ve had to drag you out of the training room most days to eat or sleep.
“Not sure how much sleep she got,” Laura said, passing by Natasha with a gentle hand on her back. “We were up late talking.” Before Natasha could question what they talked about, she heard the front door open. You walked into the kitchen with a smile and sneaked a sausage link from Cooper’s plate.
“I thought you were never going to wake up,” you teased, filling up a glass of water and downing it quickly.
“You know some people like to sleep in when they go away.” Natasha countered. You laughed.
“Breakfast is ready,” Laura said. “Help yourself.” You smiled.
“Let me shower and I’ll be back down.” You said. Before you headed upstairs, Natasha grabbed onto your arm.
“If you aren’t back in 10 minutes I’m dragging you back down here,” she threatened. You smiled.
“I would expect nothing less, Natalie, but I’m okay,” that was up for some debate but Natasha let go of your room. She watched you go upstairs, suppressing a sigh.
“Sestra,” she turned to face Yelena. “She’ll be okay, we’ll make sure of it.”
*
You sat on the edge of the bed, freshly showered, and with a new set of clothes on. You were taking care of some cuts on your knuckles. On your run, you got so lost in a memory that you punched a tree. You were a little surprised your sisters didn’t see it. Dreyokv brought you into a room where a Red Room guard and a fellow Widow were handcuffed to the ground. Her name was Anastasia and she was a few years younger than you. The man’s name was a mystery but you’ve seen him around. Dreyokv told you that the pair were in love and were plotting to escape, your job was to get them to talk and tell them the details of their plan. So you tortured them. You could see the blood on your hands. Their screams made your heart pound and you felt the adrenaline rush through your veins. When they gave in and told you everything, Dreyokv still made you kill them.
“Hey sestra, are you with us?” You glanced up, getting pulled out of your thoughts, and saw your sisters kneeling in front of you. God, how many times have they been in this position? You needed to get your shit together. You nodded, pressing the palm of your hands to your eyes.
“I lied,” you said, bringing your hands down to look at them. “I don’t think I’m okay.” Yelena smiled.
“Yeah,” she whispered. “We know.” You chuckled. Of course, they knew. Your sisters were so much smarter than you.
“Come with us,” Natasha said, holding out her hand. “We want to show you something.” And you took your hand without hesitation.
*
They brought you to a secluded part of the Barton’s property where they had a small swimming pond. Yelena laid out a picnic blanket and you sat down looking at the water. “Can you imagine having a place like this?” You asked as they sat down.
“I’ve thought about it,” Natasha admitted. “Leaving the team and getting a house big enough for all of us.” Yelena leaned back on her hands and looked at the view.
“I couldn’t live out in the country,” she said. “But a house of my own does sound nice.” You let the silence fall between you and your sisters. It was peaceful as a nice breeze blew through.
“Did you watch it?” You asked Natasha. “Did you watch me torture him?” The redhead nodded, pulling one of her knees to her chest. You knew the entire thing was recorded and it wasn’t a surprise Natasha watched it. “Originally, Steve and Sam were going to talk to him but I said it should be me to do it. I convinced them that he wouldn’t talk under normal circumstances but I could break him.”
“And you did,” you nodded. “You did it to save me, that doesn’t make you a monster.” She was right.
“But the thoughts I’ve been having after do,” you said. “A dark part of me missed it, you know? That control, the power, and that adrenaline rush,” you shook your head. “I wasn’t lying when I told him that my bite kills. No matter who Dreykov sat in front of me I could break - men, women, or another Willow.” You sighed, running your hand through the grass.
“You did what you had to do to survive,” Yelena said as if it was the simplest answer behind everything you did.
“And what about now?” You questioned. “What’s the reasoning for these thoughts? I have an angel and devil resting on my shoulder and I don’t know who to listen to. I’m afraid they broke something that can’t be fixed,” you admitted. You sighed, picking up a nearby rock. It was smooth against your fingers as you twirled it around. “I wonder if they were always there.” You looked back at your sisters. Yelena had her knees to her chest, resting her chin on her knees. She was looking at the swimming hole. But Natasha was looking right at you.
“Nothing about you is broken,” she finally said. You scuffed, looking away. “I’m telling you the truth. I have those same thoughts,” Natasha sighed. Out of the corner of your eye, you watched her run her hands through her hair. “When Loki kidnapped and brainwashed Clint I was ready to kill everyone in my sight and when you were kidnapped I was ready to burn the compound to the ground if they got in my way.” you chuckled. “We go back to that mindset when things get out of control. It’s how we cope.”
“Fucked up way to cope,” you mumbled, leaning back on your hands.
“We had a pretty fucked up childhood,” Yelena smiled. “But I think we turned out okay.” You smiled.
“Yeah, we did.”
*
“How’s Iowa?” Carol asked. Once again you found yourself sitting outside the Barton’s house but you felt different, lighter almost. You were video-calling Carol, who was laying in her bed at the compound. You smiled.
“It’s nice,” you said. “And quiet. I needed this more than I realized.” She smiled.
“Good, I’m glad you are enjoying yourself.” You looked past your phone into the vast darkness. Your mind couldn’t help but wonder and dream of owning a place like this. “What’s got you thinking so hard, pretty girl?” You blushed, biting your lip.
“I was just thinking,” she gave you a look for you to continue as she sat up in bed. She was wearing a tank top and you were slightly distracted by her muscles. She smirked.
“See something you like, baby girl,” she teased.
“Shut up,” you mumbled, cheeks feeling hot from embarrassment. Carol chuckled. “Anyways, I was thinking about the life Clint built out here. One day I want to have something like this,” you looked into the vast darkness. “A place to call my own away from all the fighting.”
“You know,” she said slowly, causing you to look back at her. “No one would be upset with you if you walked away from the fight. You’ve spent your entire life following orders. You can live for yourself.” You smiled, it wasn’t happy.
“I can’t,” you whispered. “Not yet at least,” you looked down at the steps you were sitting on. “I’ve done a lot of bad stuff. There is so much red on my ledger. I can’t stop.”
“Sweetheart, can you look at me?” It took a minute for you to look at her. There was a look in her eyes that you couldn’t pinpoint the emotion. You saw it when Maria looked at Natasha when Alexei looked at Melina, and now when Clint looked at Laura. Love. Did she love you? “Why are you being the judge, jury, and executioner of your fate?” You didn’t answer. “The way I see it you paid your dues and if you want to stop, you can be done.” You chuckled.
“What gives you the right to be my judge?” You asked. You didn’t ask it to be mean or rude but you were curious. She looked shy all of a sudden, scratching the back of your head.
“Because I love you,” you felt your stomach drop at her admission. It was different hearing those three words coming from someone that wasn’t your family. It wasn’t a bad difference, just different. “And all I want for you is to be happy and safe. So if that means tomorrow you hand up your suit and get a 9 to 5,” you laughed, throwing your head back. “Then I’ll support you and I will always remind you that you deserve a chance to walk away from all of this.” You were stunned into a shocked silence at everything she said. But there was a part of you that felt the same, somewhere deep inside you knew that you loved Carol. ‘Tell her. Be happy and tell her.’ for once the angel was louder than the devil.
“I love you too,” you whispered like it was a secret for only you, her, and the stars could know about. “Thank you.”
“Why are you thanking me?” She asked.
“For loving me and all of my scars.” She chuckled, shaking her head slightly.
“You do not need to thank me,” she said. “I should be thanking you.” You looked at her confused. “You opened yourself up to me and made yourself vulnerable. Loving you is a gift I’ll treasure forever.” You smiled.
“You are a sap.”
“Only for you,” you tried to cover your mouth as you yawned. “Go get some sleep, baby girl.” You stood up.
“Will you stay on the phone till I fall asleep?” You asked, gently walking back into the farmhouse. You saw her nod her head. You opened the door to the guest room you were staying in and immediately climbed underneath the covers, placing your phone on your nightstand. “I love you,” you said again. Oh, how good it felt to say.
“I love you too. Goodnight, sweetheart,” you closed your eyes. The devil on your shoulder was silent and you no longer heard Daniel’s screams. You smiled as you weren’t afraid to fall asleep.

Golden Egg
Natasha Romanoff x Female Reader

Note: Happy Easter to all of those who celebrate! I spent my day with family, so this is coming out a little later than I planned but I still wanted to post it today. Enjoy!

Holidays with Natasha are always your favorite. Despite not having much of a childhood, the woman makes your children’s day the best it can possibly be.
This morning you got the kids dressed nicely and took photos before you let them change and run around the farm with worries.
Natasha stands by your side now as you wait for the egg hunt, or as the kids think of it, the highlight of the day.
“Are you excited?” You ask her. Every year she gets really into it.
“Very,” she says. A smirk rests on her perfect lips. “I think I know which egg has the money in it.”
“Natasha! You’re not supposed to know,” you scold her. She just chuckles. “You better not cheat and tell one of our kids.”
She wraps an arm around your waist and leads you to the trailer Clint has set up to drive to the egg hunt.
“A hayride!” Belle shouts as she waits for her turn to hop on.
“Yeah, baby. We’re going to the egg hunt,” you explain.
“Yay!” Nate yells from beside her.
You and Nat take turns lifting the kids onto the trailer and sitting them on the hay. They listen to your instructions to stay seated as the Laura joins Clint on the front of the tractor.
He takes off and drives you all to a field where the older kids just finished hiding the eggs. The kids are bouncing on the hay bails they’re so excited to hunt for the eggs.
“Okay, everyone when we get off y’all need to line up at the starting point,” you explain. They nod their heads and you begin helping them off. Soon enough, it’s time for the hunt to begin.
“Give us a countdown, Coop,” Clint says.
The boy counts to three and the kids take off. You and Nat try to keep up with Belle while also watching Taylor do her best at it.
“She’s missing her basket,” Natasha says, chuckling at the way the littlest girl is picking up eggs but not putting them in her basket successfully.
“Poor baby. Go help her Nat,” you tell her.
“But the golden egg,” she says. “Belle has the best chance at finding it.”
“Natasha,” you scold her softly. She gives you a sweet look that border lines puppy dog eyes. “Fine. I’ll help her.”
“You’re the best!” Natasha says as she runs after Belle to help her.
You help Taylor figure out how to use her basket and it goes much better for her. At some point, she just plops down on the grass and starts opening her eggs.
“I found it! I found it!” You hear Belle yelling as she runs back towards you.
“Whatcha got there, sweetheart?” You squat down to her level.
“It’s the golden egg!”
“Oh, wow! Great find, kiddo,” you say.
Natasha comes up behind the girl with a beaming smile on her face. “Do you want me to hold it to keep it safe?” She asks.
“Please!” Belle hands it to Nat and runs off to keep hunting.
“Why were you so dead set on her getting this egg? What is it, like five dollars?” You ask her.
“Why don’t you see for yourself?”
She hands you the plastic egg and you raise a brow at her.
Still, you open the egg and inside there’s a ring.
“We’re already married, babe,” you tease, but you look at the ring further to see that it’s the birthstones of all your children plus your’s and Natasha’s. “Nat, this is-“
“The Easter bunny wanted to surprise you a little differently this year,” Natasha says. She takes the ring and places it on your hand. “Perfect.”
You pull her in for a kiss, ignoring your big kids’ response to the pda.
“I love you,” you tell her.
“I love you too, detka.”
You stay in her arms as you watch the kids continue to run around and find eggs.
“Baby, you do realize that Belle expects some kind of prize in this egg,” you say and Natasha shakes her head.
“I did not think about that,” she admits. “Hey Clint, you got 5 dollars?”
He gives her the cash and seems pretty oblivious to why she needs it, but Belle is very excited to come back to her egg.
You all load up to go back to the house and the kids empty their eggs to see what all they got.
The smiles on everyone’s faces shows just how happy the day was. And Natasha wears the biggest one.
