Thinking about the fact that some days ago I explained the plot of my screenplay to one of my new friends and he said “you know, just from hearing this I kind of feel like I know you better. What I understood from this story is that you fear societal judgment, probably because you deeply felt it while growing up because you were raised in a small town” and I swear I gasped I didn’t know I’m this transparent help

Cinema is a language. It can say things—big, abstract things. And I love that about it. I’m not always good with words. Some people are poets and have a beautiful way of saying things with words. But cinema is its own language. And with it you can say so many things, because you’ve got time and sequences. You’ve got dialogue. You’ve got music. You’ve got sound effects. You have so many tools. And you can express a feeling and a thought that can’t be conveyed any other way. Its a magical medium. For me, it’s so beautiful to think about these pictures and sounds flowing together in time and in sequence, making something that can be done only through cinema. Its not just words or music-it’s a whole range of elements coming together and making something that didn’t exist before. It’s telling stories. It’s devising a world, an experience, that people can not have unless they see that film. When I catch an idea for a film, I fall in love with the way cinema can express it. I like a story that holds abstractions, and that’s what cinema can do.

I feel like wonderland is one of Taylor’s most underrated songs from 1989. It perfectly describes how it feels like when you first start falling in love with someone and you feel a fire burning in your heart so full of passion that your attention is only toward the other person, both forgetting about the reality and the outside world because they’re so into each other that it feels like they went in “wonderland”, living an utopian life. Of course, at a certain point, reality comes back and they both realise that they went too fast and eventually everything shattered so soon because they lived everything so intensely that it felt like they already spent years together, only to realise you didn’t know the other person as good as you thought you did
