Fluffy Feb Day 24- Candle
Tumblr media
Warnings: established relationship, reference to getting together in college, very old married couple vibes, aging
Pairing: Hotch x blank slate Fem!Reader (no use of y/n)
Word Count: 767
When it happens, you’re in the bath of all places. You’re half-submerged, your eyes fluttering between open and closed as you relax to the sound of music playing from your phone. It’s been a long week, it’s getting late, this is exactly what you need.
And then the power goes out.
“Shit,” you curse, standing up and fumbling for a towel. “Honey?”
“In the kitchen!” Aaron’s voice rings out, and you wrap a bathrobe around yourself before emerging from the bathroom into the dark hallway. You follow it to the kitchen, lighting the way with the flashlight on your phone.
And then the phone dies. Because, of course it does.
In true Boy Scout fashion, Aaron is shakily illuminated by a pocket flashlight that he holds between clenched teeth while he rummages through the junk drawer. “‘Ookin’ ‘or ‘ands’,” he says around it, and even though you don’t know what he’s saying it becomes obvious a moment later when he pulls out a few half-melted candles and a small box of matches.
“Here, let me.” You secure the robe and take the flashlight from his mouth, aiming it while he lights the candles. “What happened?”
“Probably blew a breaker, if no one else’s power is out. I’ll talk to the neighbours in the morning and take a look at the fuse box,” he promises. “Go get dressed. I made dinner.”
You kiss him, grateful as ever for his willingness to take care of the around-the-house dirty work that you could learn to do, but would rather not. “Be right back.”
When you come back to the kitchen a few minutes later fully dressed, Aaron is setting two plates down next to a deck of cards. “The chicken wasn’t finished cooking. I thought it would be better not to risk it,” he says guiltily, and you snicker when you see that the only thing on the plates are salad and mashed potatoes.
“Better safe than sorry,” you agree, turning off the flashlight that had led you back from the bedroom. “And the cards?”
“That’s what you do when the power is out.” He says it like it’s a simple fact, like the idea of reading a book by candlelight or doing any sort of individual activity during a power outage is a bad idea. “Crib, or crazy eights?”
“Hmm…” you tap your chin as if you’re in thought, basking equally in the warm candlelight glow and the smile he gives you. “My crib skills are pretty rusty. And you’re a sore winner.”
“I am not,” he laughs as he takes a bite of salad, “But fine. Crazy eights, it is.”
While he deals out cards and you eat, you take the opportunity to study his face. The angle of the light enunciates his age, highlighting wrinkles and crow’s feet that you’ve never noticed until now.
The laugh lines around his mouth are proof of a happy life- the happiest you can give him, at least- and you’re just thinking to yourself that he looks handsome like this, a little older, more distinguished, when he looks up and catches your gaze.
“What are you looking at?” He asks, chuckling as he picks up his cards.
“You.” Your response is simple, blunt, and the endearing lift of one side of his mouth- the smile you’ve gotten intimately familiar with over several years- makes an appearance and makes you want to say, fuck the card game, and kiss him stupid until the lights turn back on. “You look good.”
“Yeah? Well, you…” And here he does what you’re thinking about doing, leaning over to capture your lips against his own in a chaste kiss, “look better and more beautiful every day. Cut the deck.”
You listen to instruction, flipping up one card to start the game, still entranced by the age on Aaron’s face. It’s impossible to know when he started to look like this, when those lines developed. In your mind’s eye, he’s still the boyishly handsome college senior who asked you out on your first day of junior year.
Maybe that’s what growing old- no, older, because you’re certainly not old and you aren’t too far behind him- is, you muse to yourself as you flip through the cards he’s dealt for you.
Appreciating each other, loving each other through all of it, and- no matter his age, physically, mentally, or in experience- never losing sight of the boy you fell in love with.
The candles flicker on, and the game begins, and you think that you’re a little bit more in love than you were an hour ago.

The next morning when I got up I decided I really couldn’t bring myself to face Maul. So I grabbed my datapad and messaged Qi’ra.
I am not feeling well this morning. Please inform Lord Maul that I will not be attending any of the meetings today. I will send my notes over to you as soon as I translate them into galactic basic.
I knew I should just suck it up and go, but I didn’t want to. As I began to translate my notes from Mando’a to basic, I watched and waited for her to reply.
Of course. I will let him know. Take your time on the translations… I have a feeling Rellen will be late again today.
Her response made me smile a little knowing that she was probably right.
Maul’s PoV
“Good morning, Lord Maul.”
I glanced up as Qi’ra entered my office.
“Lady Qi’ra,” I nodded at her, “Have you seen Lady Yn this morning?”
“No, I have not. She did message me this morning though.”
“Oh?”
Why would she be talking to Qi’ra and not me?
“She asked me to inform you that she wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be at any meetings today. She’s been working on translating her notes and sending them to me.”
I was slightly angered that she would use Qi’ra, someone she has despised, to relay a message to me rather than just speaking with me herself. I let out a frustrated sigh as I tried and failed to wrack my brain to figure out what I had done to upset her.
“Very well. Let’s get going. Hopefully, Rellen learned from her tardiness yesterday.” I mumbled.
When we arrived I was surprised to see Rellen already waiting for us. I rolled my eyes as I saw what she had been wearing. She wasn’t the first one to come in here and try to use their body to get what they wanted from me, nor would she be the last. People constantly did it, it never got them anywhere.
“Lord Maul, good morning. You look rather handsome this morning.” She said, crowed my personal space.
I looked down at her.
“Thank you.” I said blankly.
“Do you like my gown? I had it made especially for today. Doesn’t it look stunning on me?” She batted her eyelashes at me.
“It’s a lovely dress. But I don’t believe this meeting is to discuss your fashion sense. So, if we’re finished, I’d like to begin.” I said, stepping around her and heading to my seat.
“Wait!” She let out a drastic gasp, gaining everyone’s attention as they took their seats as well, “Where’s your advisor… oh what’s her name! The pregnant one that sat here yesterday. Where is she?”
“Lady Yn wasn’t feeling well this morning.” I informed her.
A pout formed on her lips.
“Pitty.”
I ignored her comment and nodded over to Qi’ra to begin the meeting.
As the day drug on I expected to hear from Yn but nothing ever came through. Part of me wondered if I had actually done something wrong or if perhaps it was just hormones. I didn’t want to accuse her of that of course but I could not for the life of me think of anything I had done within the last 24 hours that would have upset her so much.
I figured I would just give her space for now and let her come to me when she was ready.
As the days passed, however, I had had enough. I needed to know what was going on. I stood from my desk and walked over to the door that connected my office to theirs. My plan was to just ask Yn to come in and ask her flat out what was going on but when the door opened she was nowhere to be seen.
“Have you seen Yn?” I asked.
“No, Lord Maul, I haven’t.” She said a bit too quickly.
“You’re lying to me. Why?” I growled.
Her eyes went wide for a moment before she managed to compose herself, “I promised her I wouldn’t say anything.”
I barely listened as she spoke, already digging through her mind.
“Lord Maul, you do know there were others out there that would have willingly given you a much better heir than she ever could."
"Perhaps that is true…”
The words echoed in my ears. Anger bubbled up within me.
“Meet me in the throne room. And have our guest meet us there.” I said through gritted teeth.
Yn’s PoV
It had been a couple of days since I stopped speaking with Maul. After I skipped a day of work, I decided to go back. But then, even during meetings, I kept the number of times I spoke directly to him to a minimum. It was taking a toll on both of us but I wasn't about to cave in. I had just returned to my quarters to eat some lunch and work on a few things at my desk when there was a knock on the door.
"Yn, it's Qi'ra. Please let me in, it's urgent." She said slightly frantically.
I quickly stood while taking another bite of food into my mouth, I was starving because I hadn't wanted to eat breakfast after being sick since early this morning. Morning sickness was coming back with vengeance it seemed. After wiping my hands on my pants I opened the door.
"What's going on? Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Not really. Come with me I'll explain on the way." She said.
"Okay, hold on." I said stepping back into the room to grab my shoes that I had taken off. I opted to just hold them in my hand as we hurried off.
"First off, I'm sorry he got it out of me, he knows why you've been so upset. He got into my head and dug it out himself, I tried to stop him but I couldn't." She apologized.
"It's alright, it wasn't your fault." I said truthfully. I was the only one I knew of that could kick him out. But that comes from years of practice.
"He grew very angry and lashed out. He killed the Rellen, someone has already been sent to clean that up in the throne room. As for Maul, I was told he stormed off to his quarters. He's upset, clearly, you’re the only one who can calm him." She explained.
"Okay, you go check on everything in the throne room. I'll go handle him." I said as we came up to a junction in the halls and parted ways. I got to his quarters and didn't even bother knocking, I just put in the key code and let myself in. I could hear sobs of frustration coming from his room.
I slowly approached the doorway. The room was dark with the only light coming from the living room. I could see him sitting against the side wall, back towards me, leaning sideways against the wall.
"Maul." I said softly. The worst thing to do right now would be to scare him.
I slowly approach him. "Maul, it's me."
I gently reached out to touch his shoulder. When he didn't pull away I used his shoulder as a support to help myself lower down to sit next to him on the ground. Even in his broken, cut-off state, he instinctively reached up a hand to guide me down to the ground beside him.
"I'm sorry." I said quietly.
He turned to me suddenly, golden eyes shining with tears. It broke my heart to see him like this, knowing that I was part of why he felt this way.
"No,” He mumbled weakly before speaking up a bit more, “No, you have no reason to be."
I shook my head, "I was just in a bad mood that day, I let it get the best of me." I said, gently rubbing a hand up and down his back.
"Yn, it is I who is in the wrong, I should have never said what I did. I said it to appease our guest. I never once stopped to consider how it would affect you. I let her disrespect you and our child. I said nothing to defend either of you, and for that I'm so sorry, dear." He said, voice trembling slightly.
He sounded so broken and it actually hurt my heart. I carefully got up and crawled into his lap. He sat awkwardly instead of holding me like he usually would.
"Maul, hold me please."
"I don't deserve you." He said as his arms slowly circled around me, hands coming to rest on the side of my belly and his face buried into the side of my neck.
"Yes, you do. You deserve so much more than me."
"How? I'm a monster. I've killed countless people. I'm the head of a massive crime syndicate. And I hurt the woman that I love."
I was stunned for a moment.
“I’m sorry. This is hardly the time to announce that. But I do, Yn. I love you. I have for some time now. That’s another reason why I wanted it to be you and no one else to help give me an heir. I completely understand if you no longer want to live here, I understand. And if you want to change any part of our arrangement, I understand.”
“Maul…” I cut him off.
I heard him swallow hard.
“Yes?”
“Say it again.” I requested, my voice nothing more than a whisper as if speaking too loudly would cause him to change his mind.
“What?”
“Say that you love me again.” I got off his lap carefully and turned to face him.
“Yn, I love you…”
A smile began forming on my lips and tears pricked at my eyes. It felt like I had been waiting all my life to hear those words said to me by someone who actually meant it. And hearing it from him, from Maul, from the man I loved too, it was almost overwhelming.
“Maul…” My voice faltered.
He shook his head, looking down and holding his hand up to stop me.
“It’s alright.” He sounded so dejected.
“No… Maul, I love you too.”
He looked up at me upon hearing the confession. I took a deep breath.
“And I promise it’s not just hormones or anything like that. I’ve been in love with you since Mandalore… I just figured you’d never feel the same… that’s why I agreed to help with your heir. I figured that perhaps if I couldn’t have you, I could at least have a part of you… I love you, Maul. It’s almost scary how much I love you. I never really knew someone could ever have this much love for someone. And I never thought someone could ever love me in the same way… I never thought I deserve it.” I said, voice shaking as I was brought back momentarily to my childhood.
Maul inched closer and shushed me, gently pulling me to him and holding me tight.
“Sh, it’s alright.” He said gently.
I nodded slightly, letting him know I was okay, and he pulled back enough to look me in the eyes.
“Yn, you have always deserved to be loved. What you were shown as a child was wrong. And I vow to you, right now, that I will do everything I can to prove that to you and to our child.” His voice held so much passion in it.
I could only nod before slowly leaning in to kiss him. It was soft and short. When it broke neither of us was in a hurry to pull away. He had one of his hands resting delicately on the back of my head, as mine held him gently by his cheeks. Our foreheads were pressed together.
“I love you, Maul.” I whispered.
“I love you too, Yn.”

Hi, I love your writing! Can I request some comfort HC’s with Mammon from Obey Me!, how would comfort the MC/Reader who also has a poor/unstable relationship with their own brother? I feel like he would be good at that, considering he tends to be ignored/belittled by his brothers. I would really appreciate it. If you don’t feel comfortable, please skip! Happy Holidays!
Awww, our cute Crow demon would be amazing at comforting~ <3
Also, omg, this gif is the most wholesome, beautiful, adorable, lovely thing I’ve seen in my entire life, bless the person who created this masterpiece <3
Tumblr media
Just as you said, Mammon would probably be the best brother to comfort you with this problem exactly because he’s the most empathetic of them and he just GETS it.
Even if he wasn’t in the exact situation you are in, he’d still get it, but him, more than anyone, he’d feel for you so much that it rips his heart into pieces.
He loves you so much that he wants to only ever see you happy and would do literally anything to always see that beautiful smile of yours - So when you’re upset because of the way your siblings treat you, he’s head spins and he goes insane.
Sure, he purposely made himself the butt of everyone’s jokes for thousands of years, knowing that his brothers need constant stress relief, especially Lucifer who’s constantly on edge and still bears the guilt of letting their little sister die in the Celestial War...
But this has been going on for so long that he doesn’t remember the time when things were any different - And in a way, he doesn’t care, as long as his brothers are happy - But in a way, it still hurts him, because he loves his brothers more than he loves himself, and being mistreated like that all the time, especially for some misdeeds he does that are uncontrollable due to the Sin he was cursed with, was a bitter feeling.
Even so, you’re just a sweet, little human, so you have no responsibility to bear anyone’s burdens or be anyone’s emotional punchbag, so he can’t stand the idea of you being in any way mistreated, especially by the family you care so much for.
First, he’d calm himself down - He can’t have you seeing how upset he is, or he knows you’ll feel guilty and never complain to him again - And he’d suggest you try explaining the situation and possibly trying to talk the problem out.
If that doesn’t work, then he’ll go to Lucifer and ask for more advice, knowing he’s always been the smart one of them - But surprise, nothing Lucifer says works.
So, he retorts to the big guns - Protecting you.
He’ll literally try everything in his power to keep you around him, always occupied and keeping your mind away from your problems at home.
Mammon would pamper you ALL the time - Not only he would use all of his money to buy you all sorts of things, from clothes, to funny things, to the most useless things that looked cute - But would also spend 24/7 with you, showering you with affection.
Kisses, hugs, cuddles, spa days, self-care routines, movie marathons, video game binging trying out matching outfits, doing fashion catwalks in your room, doing silly Deviltube challenges, trying out new cooking/baking recipes and so on.
He knows he can’t really solve this situation for you - Sometimes, if people don’t want to do things, you can’t change them. You just have to accept that things are what they are, and no matter how much you love said person, they won’t reciprocate the sentiment. And we just can’t force things.
Either way, till the end of the world, he will be there for you, through the good and the bad days, and Mammon will absolutely never get tired of comforting you about any problem that you have.

Pronouns: She/They
Story: So Mandy is a heavily cyber-augmented girl studying Robotics at the University in a cyberpunk reimagine of the Sims world. In the world she lives in, cyber modification is really common for everyone. She has glowing eyes and while she's usually depicted with a human skin tone she is entirely blue metal underneath. Her fave color is blue so she always has blue on her in some regard. She has albinism. She has a really wacky fashion style that usually consists of oddly matched silhouettes. She's really smart, hence robotics, but has the tenancy to speak without thinking. Tumblr media
Name: Parker Winston
Location: Seattle
Age: 25
Pronouns: He/They
Story: My sim is Parker. He's genderfluid but prefers he/him and sometimes they/them. He grew up in a small, very religious town where being queer and loud weren't acceptable things. Being both, he decided to head for Seattle when he was old enough. He's an artist and has dabbled in anything creative he can get his hands on, from drag to tattooing to graffiti, he's done it all. Self-expression is the most important thing in the world to him and he shows that in his style, his art, and his hair dye. And though he likes to cling to his heavy grunge and emo styles, he's never met a color he didn't like or a pattern he wasn't willing to serve with all his heart.
"If I had to describe myself, it would be if like Barbie was in The Crow instead of Brandon Lee." - Parker

Name: Dillion Carter
Location: Houston, TX
Age: 25
Pronouns: No specific pronouns but they refer to themselves as They/Them, She/Her and He/Him, occasionally.
Story: Dillion's story starts with a graffiti-riddled alleyway. Being abandoned by well-known junkies, a screaming baby was found by the police and then placed into foster care. It was not easy for the first decade of their life. A lot of blood, betrayals, and fistfights were not lost. Eight homes returning her that used to be intrigued. No one had really wanted a child that would barely talk, but also not know when to give up and back down. Until one day, the Carter Family had taken them in as a preteen and had not returned them. It's been history ever since. The adopted family was black and Dillion was as pale as could be, but the whispers did not deter them from growing even closer and loving each other. Dillion's quiet yet useful, bold, and confident demeanour has landed them two jobs: a mechanic and underground boxer by day, and recommended by their sisters in the fashion industry— a model by night. It is those same sisters that had shown them the "Shine" modelling competition and convinced them that it was good exposure. That Dillion was worth so much more than what they had. Dillion responded with a smirk, a shrug, and a "Why not?" They'll just let their body speak for itself.

Name: Charline Morel
Location: Brindleton Bay
Age: 21
Pronouns: She/Her
Story: Charline "Charlie" Morel was born as the first of two daughters to an overly strict wealthy family. The Morels were a family of musicians, and every child born to the family was expected to be a musician, and those in the direct line were expected to inherit the family instrument manufacturing business (or whatever it was, Charlie really couldn't care less). Unfortunately, Charlie did not inherit her family's ear for music - she knew she wanted to be a creative soul, but honestly, she wasn't very good at any of it. Her parents forced her to take singing lessons because it was the only thing musical she was any good at, but she always wanted to do something else. She didn't know what that was until she graduated from high school - she wanted to model. She had tried taking pictures once, but quickly she realized she preferred being in front of the camera instead. So she packed up her belongings and moved out - not terribly far away, but out of her parents' clutches. Charlie is a stubborn, self-assured girl who is determined to prove herself and make a name in something other than music. Once she gets an idea in her head, she is determined to see it through to its finish - or crash and burn trying. (Even if her inner perfectionist cries out in terror at the prospect.)

“Ymir with the Freckles”
1/11/24

Most of our cousins grew up in Texas. Several of the youngest are still there, working through middle and high school. Texas isn’t the best place for queer youth—nowhere in the South is, but especially there—but they know my sibling and I are safe people. (We’re both queer, and we’ve both let them know that and cultivated safe spaces for them.) As such, a few of them have come out to us over the years.
When my sibling and I came out, we went through all the stages of “so xyz in our childhood was pretty queer, huh”—recontextualizing and further appreciating everything from TV shows we’d watched to things we went through. If I’m honest, that’s still happening. But I didn’t come out as bi+ until after I had left home for undergrad—didn’t even know myself well enough to do so before then; and I didn’t figure out I was genderqueer until last year—and am still struggling to tell people about it. Meanwhile, my sibling’s wheels started turning a little younger than mine had, them having slightly more access to queer community and education because of the internet and our evolving culture—but they still didn’t make those connections until late into high school, didn’t fully until college, and they still consider themself a work in progress.
Because of subtle (and unsubtle) queer phobia and conditioning, because we didn’t know any safe queer people, because of a lack of education and exposure… Because we didn’t know.
Some people don’t find the freedom and safety to make the discoveries we eventually did until far older than we were—and it’s never too late for that. But as an adult, there was some trauma in realizing my childhood was gone, and during it, I never got to fully experience queer joy or really live as myself.
Our little cousins don’t have many safe people—Texas is Texas. But sometimes, they text us. An account of a debate about trans rights that came up in Model UN at their school; they spoke up for trans people, but were confronted with right-wing transphobia, and they wanted to talk to us about it. A comic book panel or TV show with a queer pairing they love. Pictures of drawings in their journals, of queer OCs they’re writing. A screen-cap from a video game they’re playing, showing off some particularly queer fashion choices. A chart of various pride flags with common misconceptions about different queer identities. Like penguins or crows, delivering us little treasures.
Or precious, precious videos—the resolution blurry, the framing wobbly and Dutch-tilted as they held their phone camera close to an ancient, school-issued laptop—where they leaned into the microphone and said: They wanted to tell us, they went on the Fandom website for “Ymir with the Freckles” from Attack on Titan, and it confirms that she was, in fact, “romantically attracted to Historia.” Like this was our precious secret, now. And we must safeguard it together.
I hope it won’t always be like this. That someday, all kids will be safe and free enough to be as loud and joyful as they like. But even so…
Young queer joy is so special.

All of the photos I could find from “History Of Sex” which was at the Golden Nugget in 1998! It was a short show only being about 75 mins and the story "starting with Adam and Eve and ending in an overlong dance sequence as WSEX radio captures the music of the 1970s, '80s and '90s"  Gruber plays the "star/ Narrator" Here are some articles about the show incase you wanted some extra reading: By Jess Cagle - Published August 14, 1998 For Entertainment Weekly “Vegas Stage Reviews: 'Siegfried & Roy'; 'EFX'; 'The History of Sex'” (X) By Joe Delaney - Published July 24, 1998 for The Las Vegas Sun “‘History of Sex’ told by capable cast” (X) Plus one little paragraph about the show from the same as the previous source Published Oct. 30, 1998 (X) Below the cut you can find the full 3 articles
“Vegas Stage Reviews: 'Siegfried & Roy'; 'EFX'; 'The History of Sex'” By Jess Cagle - Published August 14, 1998 For Entertainment Weekly (X)
”There is a very special guest in the audience tonight,” said Siegfried, the blond half of Siegfried and Roy at The Mirage on July 10. ”An Oscar-nominated actress whose performances have moved us…”
Cathy Moriarty, the beautifully blowsy star of Raging Bull (Best Supporting Actress nomination, 1980), Soapdish, and Casper — and who happened to be seated next to this ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY critic that night — slunk deep into the show-room banquette. ”I can’t believe he’s going to do this,” Moriarty growled. ”This is so embarrassing.” Siegfried extended his arms grandiosely in our general direction. Those of us lucky enough to be sitting with Moriarty straightened our posture, preparing to be doused by her spotlight.
Tension at the table mounted, until: ”Ladies and gentlemen,” said Siegfried, ”Miss Gloria Stuart!”
As Moriarty just sat there, either calmed down or let down, the 88-year-old Titanic star took a bow and a microphone and began expressing her appreciation for Siegfried & Roy’s artistry. And then expressing her appreciation for all the people who made it possible. And then expressing God knows what all; the woman can go on, and Siegfried seemed not quite sure how to get her to stop. Stuart was wearing a spangly little heart-shaped beauty mark decal on her cheek, which was enough to give me a giggle fit. Put off by such rudeness, Moriarty punched me in the arm — hard.
This incident, in a metaphorical nutshell, sums up a great deal of the current Vegas entertainment experience: magicians, tourists, quasi-name-brand celebrities, disappointment, a good laugh now and then, and not a little pain. And if the Vegas hotel-casino operators have a say in it, you’ll be having that experience soon. Despite the worried Asian economy, the glut of hotel rooms in Vegas — more than 105,000 by last count — is expected to increase by about 15,000 by the end of the millennium. Vegas wants you, and Vegas’ stages are considered a major untapped resource for keeping you happy. Casino mogul Steve Wynn and Hollywood producer-manager Sandy Gallin are planning to develop Broadway-caliber shows, and Peter Morton’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is catering to its young clientele with acts like Sheryl Crow and the Wallflowers. (Take a look at the new breed of Vegas tourist lounging by the Hard Rock pool — nubile hipsters hell-bent on disposing of income.) What, then, does this impending renaissance mean for the old-fashioned Vegas spectacle — the long-running comedy-variety shows installed in hotel show rooms long ago in order to lure gamblers? A quick tour through three shows from different Vegas genres — a spectacle, a star vehicle, and a T&A romp — reveal a very American art form (if you could call it that) at a crossroads.
It costs $89.35 per ticket to get a look at our first genre, represented by the two taut Teutonic titans of magic. I refer, of course, to Siegfried and Roy (The Mirage; 702-792-7777), though if you think you’re buying a magic show, think again. What you’re getting is pure Vegas-style spectacle. Siegfried spends much of the 95 minutes posing and gesturing amid a dense population of dancers; the chorus boys have big leonine hair, the girls are dressed, I think, as some kind of insect. There is much fog and fire, and Roy keeps popping up like a bad penny — from boxes, the back of the show room, etc. But the real star is the glorious parade of rare white tigers, all of whom pose as professionally as Siegfried, and one of whom is hoisted high … and then disappears! Whether this magnificent menagerie is worth the price of admission is up to you and your accountant. Siegfried & Roy are as slick and interesting as Wayne Newton’s hairdo, and they’re just about as hip. The face of Vegas is changing; it’s time Siegfried and Roy changed theirs. From the looks of them, this would not be an alien concept.
Speaking of hair, remember when David Cassidy’s cascaded past his shoulders and you thought Shirley Jones was the coolest mom in the whole world for allowing such a thing? Well, the hair is cut short, Cassidy is 48, and he’s Vegas’ resident former superstar — here to remind us (and this information will cost you at least $45 a ticket) that he’s still kicking, not to mention singing, leaping, and flying through the air in the monolithic, cast-of-thousands $45 million musical-variety show EFX (MGM Grand; 800-929-1111). Cassidy stars energetically as a busboy who takes a journey through his childhood imagination, bounding into the shoes of Houdini (magic tricks!), P.T. Barnum (trapeze artists!), and H.G. Wells (a 3-D time-travel movie! You can keep the glasses!). To call EFX a star vehicle is an understatement. It’s a star battleship; you may never see a live show this extravagant, which makes it somewhat important and a joy for the kids. But the show’s script makes The Partridge Family look like the Brontë sisters, and that makes EFX weirdly pornographic — so much to see, so little to think about, and after you’ve seen enough of it, your own boredom might surprise you. Until Cassidy starts pattering with the audience, shaking us awake with self-deprecating humor and a few topical jokes. The audience roars, free for the moment of empty glitz and common-denominator humor. Under Cassidy’s famous hair lies EFX‘s brain.
Then again, who goes to Vegas for brains? I, for one, was titillated by the town’s promise of south-of-the-neck entertainment. But while the signs on some shows say ”adults only,” they’re largely PG-rated affairs, many of them operating on the premise that audiences are still capable of lip-smacking over two bare breasts, even when their showgirl owner is otherwise covered in gowns by Bob Mackie wannabes and Teletubby headdresses. The T&A arena seems wide open for shows that can appeal to audiences born after 1955, and there is a new show that does just that: The History of Sex (Golden Nugget, 702-386-8100). Starring handsome Broadway vet Michael Gruber (Cats) and gorgeous Candace Davis (she paid her dues singing on Norwegian Cruise Lines, bless her heart), The History of Sex bounces through the titular topic, beginning with a nearly naked Adam and Eve and consistently — cleverly — objectifying with equal opportunity the 12 Fosse-esque whistle-worthy male and female dancers. In a retrofitted version of the Cole Porter ditty ”Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love,” Gruber tells us that ”For cash a girl on the phone does it/George Michael all alone does it.” That’s smart stuff by Vegas standards, making the small-scale, unassuming History of Sex the best adult bet in town at $29.95 a ticket. This is not to say that Siegfried & Roy and David Cassidy should take their clothes off, but even Gloria Stuart might appreciate a good George Michael joke. Siegfried & Roy: B- EFX: B The History of Sex: B+ ---------- “‘History of Sex’ told by capable cast”  By Joe Delaney - Published July 24, 1998 for The Las Vegas Sun (X)
"History of Sex," new at the Golden Nugget, is an original production with a fine off-Broadway feel. The print and video ad campaign is extremely well done, promising more than the show actually delivers. Ted Pappas does make an auspicious Las Vegas debut as producer-choreographer-director. He has assembled an impressive, very attractive, mostly local company backed by a small but mighty seven-piece orchestra under the direction of Hap Smith.
Michael Gruber, not local, is the star, narrator and an excellent singer-dancer, with fine comedy timing. He takes the audience nicely through the 75-minute series of well-performed vignettes, starting with Adam and Eve and ending in an overlong dance sequence as WSEX radio captures the music of the 1970s, '80s and '90s.
Candace Davis, also a non-local, has a stately presence even when singing "Ten Cents A Dance." Earlier, in her first number, she starts out as a nicely under-stated Lena Horne but soon becomes Barbra "Strident" and remained so for the balance of the show.
Comedian John Padon, a local, an Emmy-Award winner, enters at the 25-minute mark and had a never-miss, today-fresh routine, scoring consistently, and with the entire audience of approximately 300 in the 400-seat Theatre Ballroom. This is quite a feat considering the variety of ages and types present. His turn would work even better at the 40 or 45-minute point in the show.
The song selection is outstanding, as are Ned Ginsburg's orchestrations as performed by Smith and his men, occasionally replaced by taped music also well selected and reproduced. Compliments go to the 14 men and women who sing, dance and go through an athletic dance mini-decathlon, plus an extra nod to Michael DiFonzo as assistant choreographer.
James Noone's set design, David F. Segal's lighting design and David C. Woolard's costume design deserve mention, along with comedy writer Bruce Vilanch's dialogue for Gruber and special topical lyrics for several of the standard songs -- very funny.
It is well worth the trip to Casino Center if you're staying on the Strip, or if you live some distance from there. Would I see it a second time? I think not, but I would go see John Padon again wherever he might be playing.
JOE DELANEY is a Sun entertainment critic.
---------------- (X) "History of Sex" ends its run -- somewhat suddenly -- on Nov. 12, at the Golden Nugget. ... Officially, the story is that, despite heavy advertising expenditure in all the media, the show never achieved satisfactory attendance numbers. ... Unofficially, it may also have been artistic differences between management and the producer-choreographer.

“Ben Mendelsohn Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters | GQ” by GQ
Transcript by CCKN is under the cut
[0:00]Ben Mendelsohn: Sissy Spacek was my mom.
[0:05] What do you - what else do you want?
[0:10] The Year My Voice Broke
[0:12] It was gonna be a tele movie, almost called The Year My Voice Broke.
[0:14] It was actually called
[0:15] Reflections at that time, that was its working title.
[0:17] And Trevor Leishman was...
[0:20] ...kind of like the town’s bad-boy.
[0:24] Trevor would steal cars and
[0:26] drive around and
[0:27] around the the racetrack...
[0:30] ...until the car ran out of petrol and then...you know,
[0:33] the cops would be sort of standing there.
[0:34] This was in a country town.
[0:36] And they would be standing there waiting for him to run
[0:38] out of petrol and try to arrest him.
[0:39] Trevor had a laugh that was very distinctive.
[0:43] Trevor: Sounded hollow, I reckon.
[0:46] Huhhuhhehehe.
[0:47] Hehehehehe!
[0:51] Ben: Which was John Duigon picking up on my sort of, at that time,
[0:52] “hehehehe”
[0:54] kind of like silly kind of laugh.
[0:57] Like that's the film that you know
[0:59] made it so that I made films basically.
[1:05] Spotswood known in America as
[1:07] The Efficiency Expert.
[1:09] You know he's a working-class gormless boy
[1:11] working in this factory.
[1:12] He wants to kiss the pretty girl
[1:15] but he doesn't quite know how to do it.
[1:16] It has the distinction of being Toni Colette's first film,
[1:23] It's one of the early films with Russell Crowe in it,
[1:27] And of course it has Anthony Hopkins in the film
[1:30] that he had made immediately after he made
[1:33] Silence of the Lambs.
[1:35] Silence of the Lambs wasn't released by this point
[1:38] but he had just made it.
[1:39] I probably learnt things on that job
[1:43] from... from Hopkins really that have
[1:47] stayed with me the most.
[1:49] There was something about his ethos and something
[1:51] about the way he worked.
[1:53] He's a very, you know, gentle soft kind of guy
[1:56] but you can see in his performances
[1:59] this other world going on.
[2:01] So I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to him for
[2:05] just transmitting that, you know, just
[2:06] passing that stuff along
[2:08] more than anything else was what that film means to me.
[2:13] Mullet
[2:14] I like Mullet.
[2:16] I like Eddie ‘Mullet’ a lot.
[2:18] Eddie ‘Mullet’ is a guy that-that comes
[2:22] from a small town.
[2:24] He wants to leave all these idiots behind him,
[2:27] goes off to the city, burns out in one way or another,
[2:30] and returns home to this sleepy fishing town.
[2:46] Eddie’s Dad: Where’s ya mother?
[2:47] Eddie: Oh, she's still not talking to you?
[2:48] Eddie’s Dad: Just call her.
[2:50] Eddie: Mom!
[2:51] Ben: And that's kind of what Mullet is.
[2:52] Now this is made by David Caesar and
[2:54] Davy is
[2:57] someone incredibly important to me
[3:01] because we go back to the beginnings
[3:03] of both of our careers.
[3:05] I did his student film for him when he was still in school
[3:08] and I think there's this incredible
[3:10] lyricism in what he does.
[3:12] They are really deeply, personally important films.
[3:17] Australia
[3:19] Captain Dutton is meant to be
[3:20] the sensitive of -
[3:22] the sensible alternative to Hugh Jackman's, you know,
[3:26] vastly more appealing proposition for
[3:29] Nicole Kidman's affections in Baz Luhrmann's Australia
[3:33] He's a slightly sort of uptight proper -
[3:35] a lot of people think he's an English character
[3:37] even Australians think he's an English guy.
[3:40] But he's not, he's an old - it's an old-fashioned
[3:42] what I was trying to do
[3:43] was do an old Australian
[3:45] upper-class speak
[3:47] which sounds very similar to British
[3:50] in a lot of ways.
[3:51] But anyway they didn't get picked up on.
[3:52] That's either my fault or whatever.
[3:55] I felt awesome about doing a film for Baz.
[4:02] Strictly Ballroom remains one of the like...
[4:04] ... It's absolutely - it remains in
[4:06] my top five most enjoyable experiences
[4:09] I've ever had going to a cinema.
[4:11] And of course you know he's got that - he's got
[4:13] the secret weapon.
[4:16] Martin Scorsese, he’s got
[4:15] Thelma School[maker], you know Thelma.
[4:18] But you know Baz has got C.M.
[4:20] Baz has got Catherine Martin
[4:22] and that is like -
[4:24] [Ben Mendelsohn does a lip pop]
[2:25] That's a combo.
[4:29] Animal Kingdom
[4:31] Pope is the elder statesman of a really... very tough... violent...
[4:40] Melbourne crime family.
[4:43] There's a culture there that is a lot more about,
[4:46] you know, guy to - a guy growing up.
[4:48] It's a lot more about being tough and not showing stuff
[4:51] and having the sense of a threat
[4:54] that you might hurt someone if they do or
[4:56] if they transgress in some way.
[4:59] Pope: This is what I’m talking about, mate.
[5:01] I just want you to tell me things, you know. it just kills me to -
[5:03] It just kills me to see you living a lie.
[5:04] J: Look, mate, fuck off. Seriously.
[5:06] Ben: Davy Michôd.
[5:08] I knew for a long time and
[5:12] Davy Michôd was a guy who wrote for a film magazine
[5:16] and Davy wanted to make a film and it was like,
[5:18] “yeah, yeah, whatever”, you know?
[5:20] It’s sort of, you know, “yeah, yeah, go on.”
[5:22] And Davy, you know, said “I want you to play this character”
[5:26] and I was like “whateverrrrr!”
[5:31] The good thing about, you know, being around and being basically a pessimist,
[5:34] you just get proved wrong a lot.
[5:37] And I love being wrong about stuff.
[5:40] [The] Animal Kingdom is without question the most
[5:43] career-wise important film that I ever made.
[5:46] I mean without Animal Kingdom you -
[5:49] I mean, you know, you don't give a fuck about me
[5:51] without that film because none of the
[5:53] rest of this stuff happened.
[5:56] The Dark Knight Rises
[6:00] This is the period
[6:01] When I was like,
[6:02] “Something's going right.
[6:03] Something's really, really going right.”
[6:06] Lucius Fox: This meeting will now come to order.
[6:08] John Dagger: You know, I’d like to point out that
[6:10] we have an non-board member here
[6:12] which is highly irregular,
[6:13] even if his family name is above the door...
[6:15] Fredericks: Bruce Wayne's family built this company -
[6:19] Board Member 2: And he himself has run it -
[6:20] Daggett: Into the ground!
[6:21] Ben: That was the first time I'd ever
[6:22] been on a film set of the biggest movie
[6:25] being made on the planet Earth at that time
[6:28] and I was like -
[6:29] [Ben shrugs with a giddy grin]
[6:30] No, it's just like...
[6:32] it's pretty awesome.
[6:34] I don't remember much about Daggett.
[6:36] I don’t particularly care about Daggett in one way or another,
[6:38] you know what I mean.
[6:39] I went in,
[6:40] I flipped a couple of burgers,
[6:41] I tried not to disgrace myself.
[6:43] That was basically -
[6:44] you know.
[6:45] There's very limited,
[6:46] you know, stuff.
[6:47] There's some boardroom stuff going on in there.
[6:49] And then there's all that stuff of
[6:50] “I've hired you to,
[6:51] you know, to be my, you know, my guy
[6:54] and please don't, you know -
[6:55] Oh, are you gonna hurt me?
[6:56] Oh, this is kind of confronting.”
[6:59] But I just remember just being on set with like,
[7:02] you know, there’s Christian Bale,
[7:03] there’s Gary Oldman,
[7:05] there’s Morgan Freeman
[7:06] like
[7:07] [Ben does a lip pop again.]
[7:08] And what I really, really, really, really remember
[7:11] having reinforced is
[7:13] this game’s exactly the same.
[7:15] Doesn't matter if you're making the crappiest,
[7:16] most down and dirty, shitty
[7:20] kind of indie that no one's ever can
[7:22] in the world see
[7:24] or you're making the biggest movie on earth.
[7:29] Bloodline
[7:31] I was skeptical, and I was touched,
[7:34] and I was, you know, a little bit chuffed that
[7:36] these guys came to me and said,
[7:38] “Listen, we want to make a film - a series, pardon me,
[7:40] about, you know, the black sheep of the family
[7:43] and we want to kind of investigate that dynamic and what it is
[7:46] in a family and, you know,
[7:49] and they're gonna kill him. you know I never get
[7:50] You know, I’ll never gonna get another Danny Rayburn, you know what I mean.
[7:53] Like you do one of those guys, like there's a
[7:55] like there's a few of these guys
[7:57] that you're never going to get them again.
[7:59] I'm never gonna get another Pope,
[8:00] I'm never going to get another Trevor. Leishman.
[8:03] There are certain things, which for whatever reason,
[8:05] everything kind of forms up
[8:07] and the thing in and of itself is people,
[8:09] you know, it -
[8:10] people take it into their hearts
[8:12] and it becomes part of their life.
[8:1] They talk about it, they enjoy it.
[8:18] Danny: You sent a load up the same highway that I did
[8:20] unless you took a detour.
[8:21] Did you take a detour?
[8:26] Ben: Yeah I love Danny.
[8:29] I - I love love love Danny.
[8:34] Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
[8:36] Middle manager as principal villain.
[8:39] It's an interesting idea.
[8:40] I have peddled the line
[8:42] and I will continue to peddle the line
[8:44] that he is the man that built the Death Star
[8:46] even though there's a very strong argument
[8:48] that Mads Mikkelsen’s character may have
[8:51] but you know...
[8:52] Fuck it, right?
[8:53] I mean you build the Dea-
[8:55] you get a chance to claim you built the Death Star.
[8:56] I'm taking it,
[8:57] I'm running with it.
[8:58] Star Wars.
[8:59] I mean, you know.
[9:01] I went there, I watched that film as a kid in-in-in Melbourne in,
[9:04] you know, in the city.
[9:07] Star Wars was just
[9:08] like huge for me.
[9:10] Gareth, he approached me in this
[9:12] sort of super secret - shh - meeting
[9:15] and I went to the top of some Beverly Hills Hotel
[9:18] and sat on the thing. La la la.
[9:22] And he said, you know, I want you to play the
[9:24] villain in this upcoming Star Wars movie
[9:27] and I was like, “okay, great.”
[9:30] [Ben sucks in lips]
[9:32] And I had to keep a lid on it for like foreeverrr.
[9:36] I mean when Darth Vader turns up on a set.
[9:43] Yeah.
[9:44] Darth Vader: Director Krennic.
[9:48] Director Krennic: Lord Vader.
[9:52] Ben: Ready Player One
[9:54] That's the best screening of a film
[9:56] that I've ever been to in my life.
[9:58] South by Southwest screening of Ready Player One in Austin,
[10:04] the first time anyone ever got to see that film in the public.
[10:07] That is the wildest experience
[10:09] and the best experience I ever had
[10:12] watching a film.
[10:13] Mr. Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, his wife, had had seen Bloodline
[10:18] and were fans
[10:19] and so essentially it's Bloodline that gets me Ready Player One.
[10:24] When I got to meet with them -
[10:26] [Ben laughs.]
[10:27] Spielberg, you know.
[10:29] Look, I'm a fan of, you know,
[10:31] I grew up. I love all this stuff, you know,
[10:33] I still feel like a kind of a fanboy nerd
[10:37] and I do pinch myself and
[10:39] kind of get a bit blushy in a bit like -
[10:41] essentially you're dealing with
[10:43] a film which you know, is very, very
[10:46] largely in virtual reality.
[10:49] That took an enormous amount of time and discipline.
[10:51] So technically for him it's a really a
[10:54] post-production piece
[10:56] but what it meant for us in terms of the capture stuff
[10:59] is really, kind of, as usual
[11:03] but in this sort of white blank space where you've
[11:05] sort of got a play ‘tendie ‘tendie, you know,
[11:08] I meant pretending
[11:11] about what's where and whatnot.
[11:12] That's the fastest most quick [/kept]
[11:14] crew I've ever seen in my life.
[11:17] Spielberg's crew is beyond
[11:20] and there's no one that thinks in terms of
[11:24] camera moving through stuff in real time
[11:28] that I've ever seen.
[11:30] There's no one, there's no one like him.
[11:35] The Sheriff is really, you know, political
[11:39] modern political speaker kind of,
[11:43] as you know, -esque villain
[11:45] Friar Tuck: Sir, surely the church -
[11:46] It's a law and orders issue.
[11:47] I'm the law and order here.
[11:49] I can't afford to lose another penny.
[11:53] Friar Tuck: Sir it's been a bit since your last confession.
[11:57] The Sheriff: My conscience is clear.
[11:59] Ben: He's a modern kind of political populisty type of,
[12:04] you know, operative sleazebag dude, you know?
[12:06] Power power, money money, give it give it.
[12:08] It's really the way that Otto talked
[12:11] about what he wanted to do within
[12:14] the world of hood that was kind of like
[12:17] the world of Nottingham in
[12:19] this piece which is an origin story.
[12:22] We're going to teach you things about
[12:23] Robin Hood you never even knew, all right?
[12:27] Cheap! Cheap for the price of admission.

Personal Notes: Once again, I’m on another Ben Mendelsohn video binge so here we are. This is an old video from 2018. I tried very hard to not get distracted by his voice and face. I succeed.... somewhat. Also, I remember refreshing the page so many in time hoping that they have already have subtitled the video. They didn’t and so here I am.

Mother: Maria Theresa Balinor, neé Burke
Tumblr media
Beautiful, intelligent, tall and ambitious, she was one of the Pureblood Marriage Market, and many proposed, but it was Mr. George Balinor who caught her eye. The two of them married on a lavish ceremony and had twin girls, much to Mr. Balinor’s disappointment. Later, in her 30s, she’d give birth to a sickly child, Evander, who’d die in his early twenties.
Father: George Evander Balinor
Tumblr media
A concerningly proud pureblood man, he was sorted in Slytherin and was Gryffindor and Hufflepuff’s worst nightmare and always assumed everyone was obssessed with him or wanted to be him/wed him. He was expelled nearly seven times, but his money and named saved him. At 23, he wed Maria Theresa Burke, a beautiful woman who he was sure would give him sons and a good reputation. Much to his disappointment, she instead gave birth to twin girls, Cecilia and Elizabeth. After much awaiting and many failed pregnancies and miscarriages, at 34, she was pregnant and this time, it was the desired boy, Evander. Though he was a sickly boy and his only hope was his eldest daughter Elizabeth, whom he married her into the pureblood circles after his and Cecilia’s fallout.
Twin Sister: Elizabeth Eugenia Bona Balinor
Tumblr media
The perfect daughter, she was her family’s hope and never once disobeyed any command and always resented and mocked her twin sister for not obeying dear father’s orders and ended up marrying into the S28 to perserve the family line when it was clear that her younger brother Evander could die at any given moment. She was always the perfect girl and never once changed until later in her marriage to Mr. Gaunt.
Brother: Evander Theodore Balinor
Tumblr media
A sickly boy since birth, he was the only son and heir of his father and his wife, and he was overprotected and sheltered. He never attended Hogwarts and was homeschooled, and was married to a beautiful and very fertile woman of the Bulstrode family. He died two years into the marriage, leaving behind his wife, triplet boys and the Balinor fortune to his sons when he was 24.

Relationships
Significant Other/Love Interest: Lavinia Frances Wakefield ( @gaygryffindorgal )
Tumblr media
The two women met during first year, when Lavinia was being bullied by a pureblood supremacist and Cecy jumped at her defence and offered to escort her to the Prefect. Since then, both often talked and as years passed, realised they had much in common than both estimated. Love soon sparked in sixth year and went on until the summer before the last year when Cecilia’s sister Elizabeth ratted out the affair and her father nearly hurt Lavinia, but Cecilia stopped him by using the Cruciatus Curse as an act of impulse. Vinnie could run away, but Cecilia was struck with guilt by having ‘stooped as low as he would have’ and her father locked her up and sent her to a muggle ladies’s school.
Lavinia and some friends of theirs soon rescued her via letters and rendezvouses with Vinnie dressed as the postman. She could make it to the N.E.W.T.S week and aced them all to everyone’s surprise, being accepted to become eventually a Hit Witch. Both women escaped to Lady Gray’s estate where they were provided a small, cute cottage, work to do and protection from the Viscountess, who had become powerful and wealthy in her own right.
A year after, Lady Gray gave them a small baby who had been abandoned at her door, fully knowing that they wanted to start a family. They gladly accepted her and called her Marigold, Goldie when just the three of them. They raised her away from prejudice and with all their love. They lived a long, happy, blissful life.
Friends: tbd
Rivals: Aloysius Breitling ( @cursebreakerfarrier )
Tumblr media
The two of them did NOT start off the good foot. Aloysius was the bully who harrassed Vinnie and since then they declared war on each other. This followed until a few years after graduation, casually bumping into each other, their lives settled and changed. They both laughed off their teenage rivalry and Aloysius bought her a drink to make up for it. They both got along well ever since

so this week I flew across the country by myself to see my favourite band in the entire world. practically nothing went amiss. I had random interactions with lovely people. my hobbling faith in humanity has straightened its spine a bit? I’ll be cringe about this below because I want to remember, let’s have some positivity for once.
I hate that I like nissan rogues, I know the transmissions are dogshit. rented one for a day to avoid dragging luggage all over hell’s creation. sound system fucked hard. LOUD paul barker. ate hella steak, eggs and pancakes at pancake chef near seatac. alright alright alright.
killed time before hotel check-in, visited lakeview for brandon and bruce lee, ended up perusing the cemetery with a multi-talented guy from LA for about an hour swapping perspectives, observations on the human condition and tombstone critiques. glossy black crow perched on an equally inky granite headstone embellished with a huge cross - oh my goth, bro. eric, I’m sorry your cat died, you are rad and I will try to find your music online. be water, my friend.
the fashionable gentleman who checked me into the hotel was a sweetheart, down with skinny puppy, name dropped wax trax, awesome taste in rings.
dipped out for coffee, asked directions from coffee-holding stranger in glasses to make sure I was headed the right way. ran into him the next day in my new hoodie post gig, he mentioned how he used to work at a record store in edmonton, sold records to cEvin. what? insane.
seattle has too many hills, someone should do something about this. but very walkable. always move confidently with purpose, shoulders back, mean mug, look like you want to curb-stomp god. never appear lost.
found a 24 hr cafe near the kurt cobain twin tower / frasier obelisk that served a mean breakfast and was blasting tunes at 9:30am. several compliments on my filthy rat nest hair. what is this fever dream? unwashed hair is in. pancakes are my passion.
wandered to the paramount to get my bearings, saw justin by the tour bus and that metalworker ephraim dude’s sick rusted-out mad max’d honda cr-v. meandered around for the rest of the afternoon before skuppy-prep time. incredible roast beef horseradish sandwich. cool and good.
hung out in the GA line for a while, no VIP this time, wind picked up and it was pretty cold for a may evening. ended up next to a tough looking dude during the show, chatted a bit, he was a kmfdm roadie for a few tours. said his best puppy show was new orleans, I can only imagine. he reminded me of wez from the road warrior. thank you R for the gum, it gave me a second wind.
the paramount theatre is something out of a golden fairytale, gilded to the gills. generous stage for alien abuse. fantastic acoustics. reminds me of the hippodrome. I relished irving plaza’s intimacy but the paramount was my favourite venue.
I will never tire of seeing lead into gold. soundtrack for slowly asphyxiating in a warm tar pit but make it erotic. thank you paul barker, long-legged light of our lives.
no surge/mosh at this show- if so, I didn’t notice. the energy was on point. denver had some choice dumbasses in the crowd, no such issue here.   seattle mirrored silver spring imo, excellent all around.  I made a brief, wonky post touching on this but in denver ogre was still obviously uncomfortable. that made me feel fucked up... and quiet afterwards.  this time around he seemed in great spirits, tons of energy, spinning the mic around a bunch, writhing all over the place to thwart tormentor!dustin (our boy is flexible). everyone was going wild, we all yelled ourselves hoarse. got to use their A setup with the big projection sheet. justin and cEv on risers.
side note: big love to matthew for his crowd engagement and bubbly enthusiasm this entire tour. honestly he comes off as just a literal cinnamon roll of a guy and the tour diaries have been a real treat. at the end he reflected on otherness and a need to be kind to one another in an unkind world, which really oddly summed up my seattle adventure... and the general vibe of skinny puppy’s unique fans (as others have mentioned here far more eloquently).
also real talk does ogre do belly dancing or something BECAUSE jesus fucking christ man he makes my mind literally fucking blank with all that fluid gyration absolutely knuckle dragging cave woman looney toons wolf beating the shit out of itself with a hammer feral. he knows what he’s doing too, god bless him. there were gals behind me that just started SHRIEKING like it was beatlemania, fucking ogremania with every slutty little hip movement (”go daddy gooo”). also like... cock grabbing causing me irreparable brain damage. then he legit straight up purposefully spit/drooled and it was just... super hOrny NOT like... mouth trauma symptom salivation (I hope? oh god.) his spit makes me insane. ok.
this was the first time I had the pleasure of hearing god’s gift (maggot). we were graced with smothered hope at earlier shows... so I think I basically experienced everything الحمد لله رب العالمين screaming. they ended with candle again, huge plus. ogre practically pranced off the stage after the encore. everyone came back out together for a heartfelt round of goodbyes. no concerts have moved me like these puppy gigs. I am so thankful, down to the marrow. there are probably other details but I have slept ~two hours in the past 48 so...   ✌️👽

‘You Look So Good In Love’
(Austin Butler One-Shot)
Summary: Austin Butler x reader. Austin see his ex at a pre-Oscar party and realizes he never should have let her go, but it may already be too late.
Warnings: angst, heartbreak, regret, mild language, mild sexual innuendo but no actual smut, soft!austin
Tumblr media
-
Austin Butler took a deep breath as the elevator carrying him to the top floor of Soho House West Hollywood whooshed to a stop. He gave himself a once-over glance in the mirrored elevator doors, carefully fixing a curl that had fallen out of place, before the doors sprang open and the noise of the pre-Oscar party overwhelmed all other senses.
As soon as he was out of the elevator, a hand clapped him on the back in greeting - his agent, James. Austin smiled and hugged the man warmly.
“Man, am I glad to see you,” Austin said. “You know how I feel about these things.”
James smiled and patted Austin on the back.
“I get it, I know they’re not your favorite. But just a few more days and you can take a well-deserved break. I saw Baz and CM upstairs, back right corner. They’re waiting for you.”
Austin thanked him and made his way up the stairs…slowly. Every few feet someone else stopped him to chat and congratulate him on his Oscar nomination and to wish him luck. By the time he made it to Baz and Catherine’s table he was exhausted.
“My boy!” crowed Tom Hanks as Austin finally reached the group, enveloping him in a bear hug. Austin gratefully plopped down in the chair they had saved for him and shrugged off his suit jacket.
“Damn, that was like a battlefield trying to make it over here to y’all,” he said and let out the breath he had been holding ever since he stepped out of the elevator. The group chuckled and Baz reached over to squeeze Austin’s shoulder.
“Someone get Mr. Presley a drink!” Baz practically shouted, as someone else in the group waved down a waiter. In no time, Austin was sipping an old fashioned and finally starting to relax a little, the alcohol pleasantly buzzing through his blood and into his head.
He was deep in conversation with Catherine when movement beside the bar caught his eye. The woman had her back to him, but he’d know the shape of her anywhere. Golden light brown tresses flowed down her back, her emerald green dress hugging every curve. Austin’s heart sped up. He hadn’t seen her in more than three years but he’d thought about her almost every day since then. He’d been a fool to let her go.
She turned her head and he could see her smiling up at someone, cheeks flushed from more than the wine, laughing at a joke he couldn't hear. Austin shifted his focus and was surprised to see that she was in fact standing with a tall, good-looking man, his arm protectively around her waist, as she leaned into him and laughed again. Damn she looked happy. He could see the stars in her eyes from where he sat and an agonizing pain shot through him.
“Austin? Earth to Aust…,” Catherine said, and Austin’s attention snapped back to her.
“Sorry, CM…sorry. I…I see someone I need to say hello to, would you excuse me for a moment?” Austin said, as he stood up and started making his way to the bar.
He approached slowly, drinking in the sight of her, unable to stop the rush of memories that came flooding back, unbidden.
A road trip from California to Arizona to spend time with his grandparents, her in the passenger seat, feet up, singing along to James Taylor. One hand on the steering wheel, he had reached for her, entwining his long fingers with hers, gently rubbing his thumb across the back of her hand. He smiled over at her, his Ray-Bans and wind blown hair making him look more like James Dean than himself.
Early morning sunlight pouring through the curtains and across their bed as she writhed beneath him, her breath hitching in her chest, her green eyes holding his gaze and piercing his heart. Her pink mouth open in ecstasy and the little whimpers that escaped and drove him over the edge.
The last time he had seen her, cheeks stained with tears. He had broken things off, not unkindly, but he thought it had been for the best. For him. She had listened without speaking, tears falling silently. And then she had given him a look - like she was devastated and disappointed and not surprised, all at once. She opened her mouth like she was going to say something but bit her lip instead and shook her head, turned and walked away. Without a word.
That was the part that had always haunted him. After so much time together, their lives blending into each other like the weave of a fabric, she had listened while he broke her heart and then never said another word to him. Not even an angry word, not a “fuck you” or an “I hate you” which honestly would have been better than her deafening silence.
Which is why Austin’s heart now felt like it might beat out of his chest. He wasn’t sure how she would respond but he had to talk to her.
“Y/N?” he said tentatively, reaching out to touch her arm but thought better of it, pulling his hand back as she turned at the sound of her name.
“Austin!” she gasped, face breaking into a grin and before he knew it, she was pulling him into her arms, hugging him like a long lost friend. She still smelled the same, like vanilla and spice.
“Oh my goodness, Austin. I’m….I’m so proud of you. You…were incredible in Elvis and I tell everyone that will listen that I knew you when. Don’t I, babe?” She turns to the tall man, and he’s smiling and nodding his head.
“Wow…really?” Austin is dumbfounded, this is not what he was expecting.
She’s nodding her head, her face smiling up at him with pride, her hand squeezing his arm affectionately.
“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. I haven’t introduced the two of you!” She wrapped her arm around the man’s waist beside her, putting a hand on his chest, “Babe, this is Austin, who I’ve told you about. And Austin, this is my fiancé, Gabe.”

‘Such A Tease’
Summary: Austin and reader exchange sexually charged repartee at a Hollywood party.
Warnings: Smut adjacent, language, innuendo
Author’s note: Guys, honestly I was not planning on writing anything smut-related, but as with all things Austin, inspiration struck. It’s short and spicy and I hope you enjoy!

Austin’s gaze meets yours across the crowded room. He’s deep in conversation with a director, but in a room full of Hollywood bigwigs and actors, he can’t keep his eyes off you. His ocean eyes squint slightly at you, in acknowledgment. It lights a fire inside of you, your stomach flip-flopping wildly.
You send him a wink before turning back to the actress you’ve been talking to, taking a sip of your drink. It’s almost empty so you excuse yourself and head to the bar to grab another one.
As you wait for your drink, you turn around, leaning back against the bar, to survey the room. Suddenly, Austin is standing in front of you, so close that there’s barely any space between your bodies.
He smiles and leans into you, resting one arm against the bar, trapping you. He brings his other hand up covertly, between your bodies, and runs the back of a finger up your breast and over your nipple, through your dress. You gasp and it instantly hardens, your eyes going wide as you look at Austin, your mouth still hanging open in shock. You close it and playfully whisper, “Fuck you.” There’s heat behind it.
“Later,” he says, cocking an eyebrow at you, one side of his mouth lifting into an arrogant smirk. He looks down and sees your hardened nipple poking through the thin material of your dress.
“You make me so hard, baby,” he murmurs, as he turns more into you and discreetly adjusts himself.
Now it’s your turn to smirk. You reach your arm around Austin’s waist, through his open jacket and down over his ass, grabbing a handful. You pull him close, feeling just how hard he is. He sucks in a breath at the contact and his chest expands, drawing your eyes to his open collar and the smattering of chest hair that drives you wild. His jaw clenches and you place a quick kiss there before abruptly letting him go, escaping his grasp and turning to pick up your drink.
You sneak a backwards glance as you walk away. He’s still there, in the same position, one arm leaning against the bar, his head turned to look at you. His cheeks are slightly flushed and the heat in his eyes as they bore into you sends a shiver down your spine. You know you’re in for it when you get home.

‘First Kiss’
Summary: Austin Butler blurb, pure tooth-rotting fluff.
Warnings: None
Author’s note: This was the first fic I ever wrote but it’s been sitting in my drafts for a few months. Fly away, my beautiful bird.

-
“I’m going to kiss you now,” Austin said, voice low and deep, as he slowly drew closer to you.
Your eyes snapped up from where they had been focused on his lips to meet his gaze.
“Austin,” you breathed out, your voice barely above a whisper, your eyes searching his.
His mouth lifted in a half-smile as he leaned in closer. You closed your eyes, taking a ragged breath, your heart beating a quick thrum in your chest. So fast, so loud. Surely Austin could hear it?
His hands fluttered on either side of your face before he settled them gently, thumbs padding your cheeks, and softly, so softly, pressed his lips to your forehead.
“Beautiful girl,” he whispered.
He slowly tilted your head to the right and kissed your cheek.
“Sweet girl,” he breathed.
He tilted your head to the left and kissed your other cheek.
“Lovely girl,” he murmured.
Then his lips hovered above yours and he paused. You thought the anticipation might kill you. Just as you opened your eyes to see what the wait was about his perfect lips curved into a smirk. He moved a hand from the side of your face and brushed his thumb across your lips. His touch was electric, your heart skipped a beat. Slowly he lowered his lips onto yours, perfectly aligned, like puzzle pieces from the clay.
He kissed you softly at first, barely grazing your mouth and then harder, his lips crushing yours with a hunger he couldn’t mask any longer, his tongue suckling at your bottom lip.
Your heart was pounding so fast you thought it might beat out of your chest. You couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, couldn’t do anything but kiss him back. A tear slipped down your cheek and onto Austin’s hand. He startled and pulled away.
“You ok, baby?” he asked, his eyes full of concern, as he wiped the tear away with his thumb.
You nodded your head, afraid to speak, afraid that all the love you felt for him would spill out of you - in tears, in words, in touch.
He smiled then, and leaned his forehead into yours, stroking your face, before pulling you to his chest and settling you there protectively, his hand rubbing small circles on your back. You sighed contentedly, your hand on his heart, knowing he was yours.

After Austin has made you kneel, naked and unmoving, on the cold tile of the bathroom floor while he showers and shaves and dries his hair. And after he has handcuffed and blindfolded you, knees aching and still pressed to the unforgiving tile, and rammed his cock down your throat, again and again, until the blindfold is soaked with tears.
After he has bitten and bruised your entire body with his mouth. And after he has braced you over his knees, ass in the air, his left arm holding you firmly to his thighs, your face pressed into the pillow that is muffling your cries.
You feel him raise his right hand and you brace for another smack, your behind already red and stinging, surely stamped with Austin’s handprint. You grip the soft pillow harder as his palm makes unflinching contact and you wail from the impact, unable to stop yourself from bucking up, kicking your legs.
“Be good for me, baby, and it will be over faster,” Austin rasps in your ear, his voice shaking slightly with restraint. “This is what you get when you’re so sexy for me.”
You’re shaking, trying to hold on for the last couple of spankings. Austin doesn’t get in these moods very often but when he does, you want to give him everything he asks for. You would give him the world if you could. You squeeze your eyes shut, thighs tensing, biting down on the pillow, knowing any second he’ll bring his hand down again.
And he does. And it’s hard. Harder than the past few times. Your eyes fly open, your breath stolen from your lungs.
“Peach!” you gasp out, “Peach, peach, peach.” Again and again, anything to make it stop.
“Oh baby girl,” Austin says, as he immediately releases his hold on you and pulls you into his lap, gathering you into his arms and holding you to his chest.
You grasp his t-shirt in your hand as you cling to him, his heartbeat and yours pounding in your ears - you take big, gulping breaths. He rocks you back and forth, smoothing the hair back from your face and wiping your tears away with his thumb.
“You did so good for me, sweetheart,” he’s kissing your forehead, your eyes, your cheeks. He’s looking at you with such love and devotion and your heart feels like it might burst. You would do anything for him.

My #1 post of 2022
‘Prettiest Thing’
Summary: Austin Butler x Reader / You and Austin slip away during a family dinner for a little one-on-one time in the car.
Warnings: SMUT! 18+ only! Oral (m. receiving)
Author’s note: Y’all. I wrote smut. Honestly, I tried writing this 3 weeks ago, hated it and deleted it. Thought about it yesterday, undeleted it, didn’t hate it anymore and finished it. This is my first time writing smut so….eeeeeee, I’m a little scared to put this out there but here it is. Thanks to the following for their indirect guidance (aka writing some of my fave Austin / Elvis fics that include amazing smut): @elvisabutler @dreamersparacosm @aconflagrationofmyown @missmaywemeetagain

“This doesn’t feel pretty in my mouth,” Austin says, making a face.
“What, baby?” you say, with an amused smile, looking at him questioningly.
“This salad…I don’t like it. It doesn’t feel pretty in my mouth,” he says again.
You chuckle at the funny expression before a thought pops into your head.
You lean in and whisper in his ear, “I know something that feels pretty in my mouth,” biting your bottom lip as you look him in the eyes. You place your hand discreetly on his thigh under the table and slowly move it up, lightly squeezing his cock through his pants. He’s not wearing any underwear tonight, he doesn’t like being constricted, so he’s bare under his thin slacks.
He goes completely still, the half-smile frozen on his face as he does his best to swallow the bite of salad he’d been chewing and not choke. You give him another squeeze then release your grip and pat his thigh before returning to your own salad.
You sneak a glance over at him - he’s taking a sip of water, a faint blush tinting his cheeks, trying to rearrange his face into something resembling normal before turning to answer a question from his uncle on the other side of him.
You really shouldn’t have been so naughty just then, not at this nice restaurant with Austin’s aunts and uncles and cousins. But sometimes you can’t help yourself…let’s be honest, most of the time you can’t help yourself. You want to jump his bones 24/7 and even when you and Austin aren’t having sex, you're thinking about you and Austin having sex…like all the time.
“Babe,” you say to Austin, an idea forming, “I left my jacket in the car, and I’m a little chilly. Will you run get it for me, please?”
You lift an eyebrow enticingly, making sure he understands your meaning.
He narrows his blue eyes at you, the faint hint of a smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
“Of course, sweetheart. Be right back,” he says as he stands from the table, buttoning his jacket quickly to hide his growing erection. He excuses himself, glancing back at you, a look of arousal and anticipation on his face.
You wait a minute before excusing yourself to the restroom but head to the dark parking lot instead. You find your SUV and pull the back door open, finding Austin ready and waiting for you, long legs spread wide, one hand absentmindedly palming himself over his pants, anything to get a little relief while waiting for you. You smirk at the sight of him.
“So needy for me, huh babe? Couldn’t even wait one minute?” you say as you move his seat back as far as it goes, take your shoes off and step inside the car.
“Look what you do to me,” he breathes, his hands reaching for your hips in the tight space. In the darkness you can see the glint of his eyes, the quick thrum of his pulse beating beneath his jawline.
You hike your dress up around your thighs before straddling Austin and settling on his lap. You can feel how hard he is as he grabs your waist and bucks his hips up, trying to get some friction to ease his throbbing cock. But you lift your hips a little, teasing, not giving him what he wants just yet. He lets out a frustrated sigh and moves his hands up your back to your shoulder blades, and buries his face in your neck, nipping at the sensitive skin there, your sweet spot that drives you wild. You gasp as he latches on, sucking hard, using his teeth, sure to leave a mark.
You regain control of the situation, regrettably disentangling yourself from his sweet mouth on your neck and take his face in your hands, desperate to feel his lips against yours. You kiss him slowly at first, taking your time but he grows impatient and deepens the kiss with a growl, tongues and teeth clashing. You rake your hands through his sandy blonde curls and grip a handful at the nape of his neck. A moan escapes his lips and you finally grind down on him, your hot core meeting his hardness through too many layers of clothes.
Realizing you don’t have much time before people start wondering where you two are, you leave the warmth of his arms and quickly kneel on the floor of the car, between his legs. He’s already undoing his belt as you unzip his pants and pull them down a bit, reaching a hand in to grip his heavy, hot length. A sigh escapes his lips as his head rolls back, his hands clenching and unclenching into fists on his thighs.
You smirk as you plant slow, soft kisses across his stomach, blonde hairs tickling your nose, gently squeezing his cock while you do. You run your thumb over his swollen tip, precum glistening in the darkness. He whines a little, hips thrusting up a tiny bit. You’re teasing him, and he grips a handful of your hair, signaling that he needs your mouth on him, now.
“Please, baby,” he whispers, as he looks down at you.
You’re just as ready as he is, desperate to feel his velvety hardness in your mouth. You catch his eye as you lick the tip, swirling your tongue around it, again and again, before licking long, wet stripes up from the base, using your tongue to trace the vein that throbs underneath.
His grip on your hair tightens and he sucks in a hiss as you take him fully into your mouth, wrapping your hand around the rest of him that won’t fit, slick with precum and spit. You move your head and hand in a twisting tandem, a slow rhythm that has his chest heaving and his breath speeding up.
His glassy eyes are locked onto yours in the darkness, his full mouth parted, occasionally biting his bottom lip through the groans he can’t hold back any longer.
“That feels so good, pretty baby. I love you so damn much,” he says between pants.
You reach your free hand up to his and intertwine your fingers, your connection in this moment almost overwhelming you.
